- 0:05SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to Skincare Confidential, a podcast supporting the Science of Skin Summit.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: My name is Dr.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Ted Lane.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: I am a board certified dermatologist, and I am here with my partner in crime, Dr.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Patty Ferris.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Hi, Patty.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: How are you?
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's been a big day.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Exhausting.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: So notice how we said the Science of Skin Summit.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Now, historically, we've been the Science of Skin Care Summit, and we don't want you to think that we're losing skin care, but we just went through a big rebranding today.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So we we Ted and I did a lot of soul searching.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: This is our fifth year with the Science of Skin Care Summit.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And as we've watched the science behind skin care evolve, we've started really delving into the science of skin.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: We're talking about things like longevity, regenerative technologies, all kinds of new approaches to the science behind skin.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: So this really necessitated us changing the name of the conference.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And we've done some very cool rebranding, which we're super excited about.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So you guys can check that out on our website as well as our social media platforms.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And it's it's really, I think this is the evolution of what we started with the science of skincare.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: So the new website is scienceofskinsummit.com.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: And I I completely agree, Patty.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I think we know we were hyper-focused on skincare.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: And I think the expansion to the science of skin just reflects what's happened in skincare in the skincare industry, in particular, the science that is being generated by the skincare industry, which really touches on all facets of the skin, including all facets of skin care, whether it be for aesthetic purposes, uh just daily maintenance, or if it is with inflammatory skin disease to help improve the condition and or as an adjunct for the topicals that we use for inflammatory skin disease.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, agree.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And also we're we now realize as part of our educational platform, we have to talk about medical conditions and how skin care fits into those.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: We have to talk about procedures, in-office procedures, and how we integrate skincare into the pre-intra and post-operative phases or post-procedure phases.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: We were expanding so much that it really necessitated us, I think, making that name change.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And it's really, I think, again, our heritage will always be in skincare.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: We are the educational resource for skincare, and we're proud of that, and it's our heritage, and we're not losing that.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: But we do want to be on the cutting edge of what's going on, especially in anti-aging science, as you pointed out.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, these skincare companies have advanced our understanding of how the skin ages to an extent that I think years ago when we started this journey, Ted, we would have never imagined.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, there weren't even exosomes, if you think about it, when we started in 2021, let alone PDRN and these other regenerative technologies.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So, so much exciting science behind these skincare products.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And they're helping us understand better.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm glad you put you pointed out exosomes because I think that's a perfect ingredient example for us to under to underline the reason why we're changing our name, right?
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Because exosomes, when used topically, there's a lot of buzz about those used topically for aesthetic purposes and regenerative purposes to help improve the quality and and health of the skin.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: And yet exosomes are getting just as much, if not more, attention through uh investigational new drug applications for them to be used systemically, as whether infused or injected, to help repair cardiac muscle after a myocardial infarction, after a heart attack, uh, or orthopedically to help repair uh some of the damage that can be done to the joints and all the different tissues associated therein.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So again, I think when you take a look at some of the ingredients that we're we're starting to really use in skincare, those ingredients are going to touch all of healthcare.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And it behooves us, and it was incumbent upon us, honestly, to expand the scope of our summit to reflect that and and really to give the recognition to these companies that they deserve in regards to uh ingredient discovery, uh incredible new formulation techniques, which will allow skincare products to do much more than we've ever been able to or thought that they could do, as well as to use these ingredients in novel ways uh in this in different body systems to affect change.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And we also have really expanded our educational offerings this year.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: We've got some really great um speakers coming in in our um social media session, which we started last year, was a huge success.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Now we're breaking doing a breakout session on that as well as our regular session.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: We're also doing leadership and talking about different ways that you can take your career as a physician, as an aesthetician.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: We have our esthetician track.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, again, a whole part of our agenda that we never even thought of.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And once we did it, it it really blew up and just became a huge focus for us.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: We love having the aestheticians there, and they are educating each other and teaching each other about the science of skin and how to utilize skincare products in their practices.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: So we've got so many new things that we're offering too that the science of skin really I think fits better for that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Aestheticians are such a surprising group to me.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize how much they crave knowledge and want to continue to learn about the structure and function of the skin and expand their knowledge and understand how the different ingredients and devices work.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, it is really it has opened my eyes up to the role of the aesthetician, both in the Durham practice and outside of our practices.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And especially those that crave the knowledge that that come to our meeting, for example, that want to know, that want to sit shoulder to shoulder with their with our MDs and APPs and learn and then go to their own um session and learn amongst their peers and network and and ask about hard patients and and clients.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: It really makes me look at them in a whole new light and through a different lens, such that I really think they can be a huge asset and partner in a Durham practice versus just a revenue source.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: I I don't think of my aestheticians now as just a revenue source.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: I really think of them as a partner and as a resource, as a resource and as to improve the the health and beauty of my patient's skin.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Um, that's what I've learned so far just by working with them in the summit.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Agree.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: It's been a great educational experience for us as well as for them.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we learn as much from them as they do from us, I think.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: You know, in addition to so we have the new leadership track, we have the of course the aesthetician track, which we are expanding and it's going to be different this year.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: The esthetician track is going to be a lot more uh case-based learnings and and small table or round table learning, I should say, uh, with faculty.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Um, and then we're we're taking that experiential idea and really trying to make our meetings so different uh amongst this huge plethora of Derm meetings, uh, which are all great.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: We're just trying to differentiate the summit with a different experience.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: And so you'll you'll see some workshops that we are now including.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: If you are interested in expanding your social media prowess, we'll have the the DERM influencer session, and then you'll have the ability to take that learning into a workshop with the faculty uh who can work with you one-on-one to start developing content and teach you how to use all the different equipment where you can really sit and learn from these incredible experts in social media, a skill I just don't have.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Ditto.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Ditto.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Well, I I think it's a very exciting day for us today.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: We're super excited to announce the new name of the summit, Science of Skin Summit.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Roll out our new website, our new social media look.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: We hope everybody loves it as much as we do.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: The colors pop, and I think it reflects the energy of the summit.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And that Ted, as you aptly point out, as we were working with our branding partners who we adore, and they totally steered us in the right direction, and they get it on a level that clearly we don't get it, but they do.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: And it was the ex that after they talked to those who had been to the summit and some of our speakers and some of the manufacturers, they understood what differentiated the summit from other DERM meetings.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: In fact, one of our stakeholders said it's not like any other dermatology meeting.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: It really is a great experience.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: It's an experiential meeting, and that's what we're really trying to heighten is give people a really rich experience.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: So it's not just about sitting in rooms full of people in chairs and taking notes and speaker after speaker after speaker, and really trying to make it more interactive, giving people a very rich experience, giving them options.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: We're running uh consecutive tracks this year, which we've not done before, but we'll have tracks that can appeal to everybody.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Um, so we're doing a lot of things differently, I think, to make the summit a little bit richer uh educational experience and more fun, as if we didn't have enough fun already.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: We we have a high fun factor, everyone.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, HFF, high fun factor.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: HF for sure.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Um we have HGW too, really high good wine.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: So it is it is definitely a a conference that is different.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: We're trying to make it different as purposefully that way.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: And um, we certainly look forward to to the wonderful growth we had list last year progressing into this year.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, amazing.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and if there are any questions that you might have, you can always send an email to inquiry at science of skinsummit.com.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, or you can reach out to Patty or myself.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: We're on LinkedIn very easily uh as well.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Uh so lots of ways to reach out if you have any questions or or any suggestions.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: We're always open to that also.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: We should probably mention the summits in Austin, Texas this year, September the 5th through the 7th, weekend after Labor Day weekend.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: It's probably a good idea to say that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Everybody, thanks so much for listening.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Thanks for uh supporting us, all of our manufacturers.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: We're eternally grateful.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: And everybody who joins and attends and helps us put this incredible faculty together, which is world class.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: We're so very grateful and proud of all the good work that we're doing in educating all healthcare providers.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Well, this is just a quick episode of Skin Care Confidential, just to announce our rebranding to the Science of Skin Summit, give you a little bit of a background as to why we did it.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, and as a as I said, please reach out if you have any questions or comments.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: My name is Dr.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Ted Lane.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: My partner here is Dr.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Patty Ferris, and thank you so much for listening.
