- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, Powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: Tristan, basketball officially starts in 42 days.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Us as Kansas Jayhawk fans, all we can do is look forward to the basketball season, right?
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Just kidding.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: They're really good at football this year, it seems.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Not really good, but they're they're they're doing their job.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: They're ranked.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: You know who's not ranked?
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: Us.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: They're ranked?
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're ranked.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: They're 24.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: They're ranked.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: They beat BYU.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: They're one and on the Big 12.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: And guess what?
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: We're one and three because of course.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: We oh my god.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: I did not.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: I'll give it an analogy.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, here we go.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: More analogy time.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: This game was like going to a nickelback concert, but they don't play Photograph.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: They don't play Rockstar.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: They don't play Faraway.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: They don't play How You Remind Me.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: They don't play all the hits.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: What about animals?
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: They don't play animals.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: So you're just kind of sitting there through the whole concert, like, okay, they're playing some new stuff.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Potentially, you know, this is fine.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: It's not what I want to go to the nickelback concert for, but they're probably saving, they're probably saving Rockstar for the end, big finale.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be awesome.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: And then they just never play them.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: And then you're just disappointed, and you're like, wait a minute.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: I just went and paid and spent all my time watching this, and now all of a sudden it it was the worst thing ever.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Bro, bro.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: So you you obviously you're turning to your bro at the concert all the time because you you couldn't convince your wife to go.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Um, and and you keep you keep asking him, um, do you know this song?
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: And he just kind of turns to you and goes, Maybe you know, I think it was like the last album that they released, like I don't know, it's like 2016 or something.
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: But no, it was I'm watching this game and I'm like, okay, they're not gonna be this bad the whole time.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: It's just not possible that we're gonna play this bad the entire time.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: And while they did pick it up a little bit in the second half, we did, in fact, play bad throughout the entire game.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: And I was just sitting there in disbelief because I'm like, there's just there's no way.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: I know our starting quarterback just went out with a devastating injury, I know it's wet and rainy, I know you know West Virginia's playing decent, but there's just no way we're gonna lose to this team, and then we lost to this team, Steven.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: I was feeling the same exact way the whole game.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: I was cool as a cucumber, I was so calm and collected.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: I was like, we're gonna win this game.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: And even even off our Tyler Shuck went down.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I was like, Oh, that's I was just like obviously heartbroken for him, and we'll talk about that, I'm sure, in a bit.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: But I was just like, it's okay, Barron's gonna do fine, and we're gonna pull this out.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: I I legit had no worries until I had worries at the end.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: So it was four, it was four quarters of we're okay, we're fine until the final half of the last.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, we're we we are gonna lose this game, yeah, yeah.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: When it when we didn't get it on fourth down in the in the end zone, there.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh, okay, that was this is the first time I think we're gonna lose this game when they had to only kneel to end it off.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Um Tyler Shuck, let's talk.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, it sucks.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: He broke his fibula.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, freak play, just like the rest of his injuries.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: It's just sucks for him, man.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: He this guy cannot catch a break, and he's it sucks because I really like the guy, and I really think he's a talented quarterback.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: And this was his last kind of year to prove it to the rest of the world.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: And he started off slow, unfortunately, and then he now does not get a chance to really prove himself, which stinks.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the honestly the most heartbreaking thing is when we look at pack at this, uh that game was probably the last game of high-level football he's ever gonna play.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: And that just that sucks, man.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: And he this was his last shot to really do something great for not only his career, but also for Texas Tech.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: You know, you seem to have laser eyes in the offseason, talking a big game about how uh the team is ready for the challenge upcoming the season.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Obviously, it didn't start out the way he did, uh, I mean the way he hoped, but you're thinking eventually he was gonna get right.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: And the West Virginia game was hopefully gonna be the game he did get it right, but unfortunately, the worst possible thing happens.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: You know, you have a what is essentially a season-ending industry, uh, injury, and honestly a career-ending injury, and it just your heart hurts for him, you know, because it's just he he seems to lay it all out there for Texas Tech, you know.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: You almost uh tear up a bit when you're watching him being carted up off with his guns up in the air, and you know, he loves this team.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: It was his his the output was not for a lack of his trying and not for a lack of his love for for the school, so it just sucks, dude.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it really does.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Uh Joey McGuire said six to eight weeks.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: I don't see how anyway he is on the field again this year.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: If he is cool, but I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: I I think I saw Don Williams tweet it out that he could apply for a medical waiver.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: Um, so I guess more to come there, but I honestly I don't want to do a whole nother offseason of a Shuck versus Morton.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: I really don't.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: So it you know, this whole thing stinks.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I hate it for him.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: But we turned to a new quarterback, and that's what everybody has to do.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Some people wanted the new quarterback sooner in the season, uh, but we all are gonna get him.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, and now it's Barron Morton's time to shine.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: And, you know, when you're thrown into the fire in an away game after a pretty devastating injury to quarterback number one, and you got to kind of go in there and play, and your receivers aren't catching the ball, you aren't particularly playing well.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: I don't really blame Baron Morton for his performance against West Virginia that much.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: It wasn't good, but also you're taking QB2 reps the entire week, you're doing this and that.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: So there's plenty of excuses you can make for not having a great game if you're Barron Morton, but um I'm still confident in him moving forward.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: I really am.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: I think he's a good quarterback.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: I've said this all offseason.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: I think all Texas Tech fans think that in some capacity, Barron Morton is a good quarterback.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: So we'll see what he has with a week to prepare.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, that that silences the entire uh quarterback controversy conversation that we were having for the past few weeks.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: You know, it's done.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: We have we have our quarterback for the rest of the season, hopefully, please knock it on some wood right now.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: Um, so that decision has been made, and now it's time to see what he's made of.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: He's it's for me, it's a a year ahead of schedule, obviously.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: I think for you as well.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Um, and like you said, I agree with what you said, man.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: I I think the entire team around him really let him down, let him down.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Not that he was really out there being a rock star, but man, we just seemed off all day.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: This is not including the defense, but offensively, there's just there was something missing the entire game.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: And it's hard to put my finger on it.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm sure you you have some ideas uh that'll bounce off with you, but it's just it's it's great to know you have a talented kid ready to go, but I'm so tired of these tech-site seasons where we have to rely on quarterback two or three to win games.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: It's getting so frustrating, especially at a school that runs through the quarterback generally.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: And it's just it's it seems almost unfair at this point.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously it's unfair for Tyler Shuck, but just for us in general at this point.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: Um, 2016 still remains the last full season we had.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: And who was that, Steven?
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Mahomes.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Mahomes, the last Texas tech quarterback to play a full season for the Red Raiders at quarterback and just stick with one guy.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Shimonek almost did it in 2017.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: I still kind of count that year, to be honest, because yeah, he got pulled the last Big 12 game of the year, but they put him right back in and he actually came in and won it against UT in Austin.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: So I'll count Nick Shimonek, but even if you're counting it, that's six straight years.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: That's Alan Bowman, you're talking Jet Duffy, you're talking McLean Carter, Tyler Shuck, Morton Smith.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's too many, it's too many, and it sucks because it does not seem like everybody else has this sort of bad luck when it comes to quarterback injuries.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, there was uh a lot of conversation going on after these posts because I I saw not only did we post something about it, but a few other people did about how many quarterbacks are constantly hurt for tech.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: And there's a lot of people saying, well, if you don't have good O-line play, you can expect this.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Well, I don't know because each and every Tyler Shuck injury, that wasn't a a problem with the O-line.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: That was just a honestly freak injury each and every time of him going down.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, one was diving into the end zone, another one was getting tackled after a long run.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: This one was kind of rush up the middle.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can kind of blame the O-line, I guess, but none of his injuries were O-line related in my eyes.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: I the O-line hasn't been good at all uh over the last several years at Texas Tech.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: I'm not trying to vouch for them being good or anything, but I don't know if that necessarily translates as much as some people like to think it does.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's a great point.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: You look back at all of his injuries, like you said, it's just it's just seems like freak accidents.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: We keep seeing it kind of feels like bad luck just kind of follows him injury-wise to each season, it seems that way.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: And but I mean, can you believe that you know his his ankle pretty much like snapped in half?
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, that tackle.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: It was bad after the replay replay.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: How how he got up how he got up another drive?
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he threw another, he threw another pass, and then uh we're just like, dude, you've cracked your leg.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I didn't mean other drive, but yeah, another another play I meant.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what can you believe that?
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: The endorphins in shock and adrenaline running through his body at that point must have been immense because I'm sure about five minutes later he was in deathly pain.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was probably in pain the moment it happened, but you know, for a guy that's gone through this time and time again, you just can't believe it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: And honestly, like it's really sickening when you know Joey kind of tells you in the press conference, Tyler Shuck's on the card just saying, Why does this keep happening?
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: Like, why is it always it sucks, man?
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: It really does, because he just doesn't really get the chance to prove himself for the next level, and he's uh he's run out of time, you know.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: And you hate it for him, but uh, you know, we could have a pity party for Tyler Shuck.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: He's gonna come back, he's not dead.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: Uh he's gonna he's gonna play football hopefully in the future, whether it be a chance at the NFL level or uh maybe in you know the XFL or the Canadian Football League or something like that.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: You think so?
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think he's got a shot to do that.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna awesome.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'll be a little downer on him before.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: I'm not, yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm not gonna say his football career is necessarily over.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of different options out there for him, but yeah, you wanted more on tape, you wanted to prove yourself, and you wanted to get wins this year.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: That's what you wanted as Tyler Shuck, and you're not gonna get the opportunity to do that.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Um, anything else on Tyler other than my prayers, prayers up and guns up for our boy?
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I think we've said enough.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: Um I talking about the offense in general, the lack, why why we didn't succeed this game.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: You look at the box score, Taj Brooks had 25 carries.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Most of that was in the second half.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: I think he had three carries at halftime, so that will kind of tell you why we didn't get going in the first half and the difference.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: We actually, you know, scored a touchdown and got some points on the board there in the second half when we ran Taj Brooks um nine drops from our receivers.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: It was brutal.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: It was wet out there, I get it, but man, some of those were right in their chest, and they just could not it seemed like three and out, three and out because of a drop pass every single time.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Bradley had 10 targets, he caught three of them.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Uh Jordan Brown had seven targets, he caught two of them.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Jerry McRae had five targets, he caught three of them.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Taj Brooks had four targets, he only caught one of them.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: So it you just had drops all over the place, and you can't blame.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: I thought Morton was pretty accurate on a lot of this stuff.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, there were moments that he struggled, I think, but overall, you just have to have your receivers be better.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: I think that they were a total letdown that this game.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: It really, like you said, it really felt like everything else was going right to him just went straight through their hands and like at key moments as well.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of tough to, like you said, put it on Morton, wherever Morton can't get it going whenever his receivers aren't doing their job.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: So it's just it seemed like no one but Taj Brooks was really getting anything going on offense whatsoever.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and this West Virginia defense, it's solid, but it's not it is it it shouldn't have done that to you.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: Um, so Brooks did have a big day in the second half, 149 yards on 25 attempts.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: That uh he we ran the damn ball in the second half, and it worked out for us.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: We actually got down the field and got moving and really put us in a position to potentially win the game with that last second, or at least tie the game there at the very end.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Um the play calling, you know, a lot of complaints, a lot of understandable complaints with Zach Gitley.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: I think he had a very, very poor first half.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: And you had 38 seconds left, I think, when you got that first down.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: You're about 12 yards away from the end zone there.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: You have two timeouts left.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: You don't run Taj Brooks one time.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: I'm complaining about running Taj Brooks not getting the ball when he had 25 attempts in this game, but man, he should have had 26, 27, 28 because you had no reason with two timeouts left to not keep running Taj Brooks and get that touchdown to tie it up.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: And you didn't.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: Instead, you threw it on third and two to a five foot nine receiver in the back of the end zone when you have multiple receivers that are six foot five and up, tight ends, name it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Instead, you threw to Nehemiah Martinez again, not really his fault, just a bad play call right there on third and two.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Just the screen or the not screen, the the fade.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: The fade just needs to be done.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: I just I hate that place so much, and I will say it forever.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: If you're not throwing to a guy who's at least six foot three on a fade, don't do it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: Just don't do it because it you're already at a disadvantage throwing to a five foot-nine guy against a corner who's just as tall, if not taller.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: I I hate it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: I hated that play call.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: I hated it.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: It's it's funny because it feels like uh Kitley was trying to get too creative at the end.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Whenever he he he felt like he went away from what was working, and that was obviously handing the ball off.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Um just yeah, at such an opportune moment in the game, and it really felt like he could not get his vision going at all, and it just nothing nothing was happening right for him whatsoever.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: I think he seems to be villain number one right now this season.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna lie.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Um, it's certainly not the uh the other coordinator.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: So it's just it's really frustrating because you kind of go into the season with all the hype of the wizard, the bright mind, the and we we contributed to it, and he just is it safe to say he hasn't lived up to any of the hype, any uh any of what's expected of him this season.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, no, he hasn't is that unfair?
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: No, it's not unfair.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: I the the blame is valid for Zach Kitley, what he's done.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: We've scored 3330 41 against Tarleton State, and then 13 against West Virginia.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: Unreal.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: This is this is a guy who wants to put 50 burger on his shirt, you know.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: Yes, they the coaches call him the wizard.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: He's put on these lists of best coordinators under 40 or whatever, potential future head coaches, and it's not showing up.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: And you know, it seems like there's an excuse all the time for everything when you listen to the press conferences from both Joey, Kitley, whoever, and the facts are the facts, it's not working.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: The offense isn't working with what we've been doing.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: And I guess you could blame Tyler Shuck a little bit at the beginning of the year for some of those mishaps.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Potentially you blame the weather, potentially you blame this or that, but you haven't run the football when you needed to run the football most.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: That's the whole beginning of this year, and your play calling has been very subpar overall.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Um, and you saw in his recent press uh conference that he's obviously feeling that pressure when it comes to Taj Brooks, but when it comes to running the ball, because you know he he responded to a reporter saying that we are indeed going to feed him next game.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: I wonder if that was more of a everyone needs to shut up, you know, kind of thing.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: Like I but or or straight up, but maybe I really do need to reevaluate my game plans.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: And I know we've kind of said this before, and we often blamed Cliff Kingsbury of this, and him being a Cliff Kingsbury product makes you wonder if there's any sort of layover from that.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Is that does he go into a game with his set game plan with no room for either a backup or adaptability to the situation?
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: Because it kind of feels like he just sits there and throws things at a wall with the you know that that being his plan.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: And if it's just not going through this wall, it's it we're just gonna keep trying the same thing over and over again, even if it's not gonna go through the wall.
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: No, I think he's a smarter guy than that.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: He obviously he adjusted in the West Virginia game because you saw the increase in Taj Brooks's carries in the second half, and you actually got some things going.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: I think he wants to make this a more air-raid type system, and he wants the pass game to get going and work, and it just didn't.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: And when you're dealing with that, it's hard to switch up your gears a bit.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Zach Kidley's never gonna run a Big Ten offense, you know, he's never gonna just hand it off, hand it off, let the O-linemen do the work because quite honestly, the O-line that we have currently is not capable of doing that, so he knows that.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: I think we all know that.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: So the way for Texas Tech to be successful is to get the pass game going, and it just has not.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: So you blame that on whoever, but it's it's not working, and I need something to change, whether it be the quarterback plays better, the receivers catch the ball, we run the ball more.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: I don't care what it is at this point, I just need to see some more points because it's so frustrating.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: These this opening set of games.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: Steven, what what what Texas Tech from some strange alternate universe am I watching right now?
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Like we are starved for points, especially when we need them.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: And but our defense other uh on the other hand has done their job in tenfold.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: Like they they have done everything you ever could have wanted a Texas Tech defense to do.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Um, they've held every team to an appropriate score for you to overcome, but our offense cannot do the same.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: It seems like getting to 15 points is a struggle, and that's so frustrating for a team that's supposed to be so explosive, so experienced, so talented.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: So it's just frustrating to be so uh befuddled as to where the disconnect is.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: What is missing?
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, when you look at the game as a whole, to that point, two things can be true, right?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: You look at the West Virginia backup quarterback, completes 12 passes for 78 total yards and throws two interceptions, you should win that game.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: They put up 20 points, you should win that game.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Yes, all that is true.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: No one side of the ball is completely blameless, though, in my opinion.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: Like the defense missed a lot of tackles this game.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: It was frustrating seeing that a lot.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: We let the quarterback run again.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: The one thing that we can't seem to figure out this year is the quarterback taking off on long third downs and getting it.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh Mark Yall or Mark, whatever however you say his last name, the West Virginia quarterback, he it's 72 rushing yards this game.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: It's it's the same thing as Bo Knicks.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: It was the same thing with the Wyoming quarterback.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: It seems like the quarterbacks can just do whatever the hell they want.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Take off whenever you want and go get it.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: And there were multiple miss tackles.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: The last drive that West Virginia went down the field for that last touchdown was a really brutal drive.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: Again, I'm not saying the defense played bad as a whole.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: I thought they had a very impressive game.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: This has been one of my favorite Texas Tech defenses I've seen in a while.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: But no one side of the ball is completely blameless, you know.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I get what you're saying.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, I'm not saying the defense is perfect.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Obviously, there's much better defenses out there.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying for what this team is supposed to be, and maybe this is just me projecting my own expectations onto a reality that's not actually there, is that in given any other circumstance, given any other Texas Tech team you can think of, 20 even even if they gave up a brutal brutal drive at the end, Texas Tech should have already scored more than 20 points.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I agree at the end of the fourth quarter.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: If you're talking like percentages on who to blame, offense is 95% to blame for this.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Okay, then yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: But I'm not saying the defense is completely blameless here.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: They we should have won this game if the offense played better.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: You know, this shouldn't have come down to the defense completely holding them to three points.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: You know, that's just never it's it's very difficult to do that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: This football.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Against anybody either.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Like even against Tarleton State, you know?
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: That's just not feasible.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's really difficult to completely shut a team out, which is why when we do do it, it's extremely impressive.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: But no matter what level you're playing.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it's it's just frustrating.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Everything about this season has been frustrating and just disappointing.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, when you're looking at three out of the four Saturdays being utterly disappointed, it's uh it's a tough start to the year.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: No, 100%, man.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: And like we entered this last episode with, you know, you're discussing what this West Virginia game means.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: It means it's a clean slate, it means you can get back on the horse, and I called it a must-win game.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: None of that changes for me.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: All those still stand in my eyes.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Um, I think this uh season is officially a what can you salvage?
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: What can you do?
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Can you make it to a bowl game if you can?
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: That that in my head, that's like that's the best we can hope for at this point is getting bowl eligible and seeing what happens from there.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: But I think Arlington, I think any ideas of a grand bowl are completely out the window.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I don't, and I'm not a pessimistic guy.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying what this team has showed us is they are not ready to be an upper echelon college football team, they're just not.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: Again, there's multiple lines of thinking.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: I I choose when once the football is actually played, I choose to go week by week because my thoughts and opinions are going to change.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: This team could look completely different and blow out Houston, or we can see a lot of the same, and then my thoughts don't change.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Right now, I'm very low on this team.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: I don't think they have a lot of fight in them.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: I don't think they bring it every single night.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: I don't think they're prepared.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: That's why you're one and three.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: You just lost to what was the preseason last place team in the Big 12 to open up conference play.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'm gonna take it week by week.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: We're four games into the year.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: We have eight more to play, so we'll see.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it doesn't look good.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna pretend like we're gonna all of a sudden just change gears and be electric, but I'm also not completely, you know, pushing that away and saying that can't happen.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: You have to go completely undefeated to win 10 games now, including the bull game.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: And that's fine.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think a lot of us before the season would have been satisfied with eight wins, which is yeah, still doable in my eyes.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, you just got to take it week by week.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: And if you go and blow out Houston at home, we're right back in it, and we got a little more juice in it.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: Now, Houston is a bad team.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: I think uh we can all kind of recognize that they've lost to Rice this year, they haven't been particularly good in their other games, but um yeah, a win's a win, and you try to build off that.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: And now you have a quarterback who's gonna have a week with the ones to prepare and uh get that continuity, and we'll see.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, it's it's it's really painful to watch the way this game unfolded from a preseason standpoint because it's a tale of two cities, you know, a tale of two uh you know results, with uh Texas Tech being a preseason dark horse darling, at least top four in the conference, while West Virginia is being picked dead last.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: And it's even funnier when we look at our records, and they're completely inversed, both overall and conference.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: So it's it's unbelievable.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Like Neil Brown may have saved his job at this point.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: Um, if West Virginia seems to claw together some more wins against a bowl season, but uh it I'm just so I'm so bummed.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: I'm just I I don't know if as I have as much energy to be mad anymore.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: I'm just bummed, and it sucks, you know, going to work and being like Tech Tech sucks.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I know, I know we suck.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Shut up.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: So uh it's just it sucks so much, man.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Um, do you anything else to say about the West Virginia loss?
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Um, no, I mean I just can't I can't right now think in uh overalls, like looking at the overall season right now, because again, Baron Morton goes into next game, he's one and oh as the starter if he beats Houston.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Then we go against Baylor, another winnable game, and then Barron Morton's two and oh as a starter, and then we're like, okay, wait a minute.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: Now hold on here, and then and then if we just like go into the rest of the year and we somehow finish six of the last eight or set win seven of the last eight, you know, God willing, we're in a completely different mood, and we're like, oh my god, this is so I'm not gonna say this season is like over and not worth watching anymore.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: And I'm not saying you are either, but it's just it it's hard to see that right now.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: But hey, maybe who knows?
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this no, the season is not over, and yes, there is technically still a path to Arlington.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: I am just saying, I I think we are but I don't think I don't think Arlington is the goal necessarily.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: It was it it's it was it was now it's not now and I you know I don't know what they're saying in the locker room, but as fans, I don't think you could even say the word Arlington anymore of just like okay, if we get to a bowl game for me right now, that's fine.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: It's not what I wanted, but it's fine.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: I'm but we I'm just I I'm just stating the fact that expectations have nose dived.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Like we were we're quite seriously as high as you could realistically be as a Texas Tech fan um on this team this year, only for honestly our worst nightmare to happen.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: This is seriously as bad as it gets right now.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: It really really, no matter how you cut it, this record is really as bad as it gets at this point in the season.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: You're not realistically losing to Tarleton at home.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: That's just not happening.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: That's like a 5% chance that's happening.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: But otherwise, this is this unwinded exactly how your nightmare goes.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: And it's it just it just it really, really sucks that way.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: And like you said, man, the season's not done.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: I'm still tuning in every Saturday.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: Expectations are changing, but it it's we we can't shake off the fact that uh you know the the the start is gonna stink on us the rest of the season.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: But of course, as fans, we'll we'll quickly forget this sort of crap like in the moment, as whenever things are going well during the game.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: So um the only the only thing I want to say about the West Virginia game before we move on is obviously another goal star to uh Malik Dunlap.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: That guy's been a king this year.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: He he gobble he gobbles the the pick, sir.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hats off to you, my man.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: Malik Dunlap, one of the best players we've had.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: I also thought Ben Roberts had another great game, a guy who's been thrown into the fire uh due to the Jacob Rodriguez injury.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: He had like 11 tackles, I think, this game.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Redshirt freshman, one of Joey's guys.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: So, you know, that that's what you keep that's what you keep holding on to is the future.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: And you know, you're maintaining recruits, you're not having guys decommit, you're actually having a lot of the future commits, you know, emphasize re-emphasize their commitment to Texas Tech and say, Hey, sometimes you go through losses, but you know, we're in it for the whole change, so that's good.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: Right again, don't tweet at recruits.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: The worst don't ever, don't ever tweet at high schoolers, just don't do it.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: I can't, I I my mind was blown whenever I was seeing our own fans negatively tweet at our recruits.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: It it happens with every fan base.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: It's the please stay or please stay committed after losing.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Or hope you like not going to bowl games.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: I legit saw that one.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you are you are the bottom of the barrel of the fan base.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: So please just hurt off the phone if you are in that state.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Get get off social media.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: I don't I there's also another portion of the Twitter community that I can't understand how they're still talking to UT fans.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: I don't get it, guys.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: This is it's your choice to do whatever you please, but my god, I don't know how you constantly do it back and forth with UT fans with the season they're having and the season we're having, and you continually keep talking.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: I don't get it.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: I don't never props, I guess, but I will never understand it.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: I can't I can't get it, I can't get into it with the same argument with a UT fan anyway, even if it's the off season where we all think that we're going undefeated.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna do it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: I can't with UT fans.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: It's the same freaking argument over and over again of oh, rent-free, you're thinking you're undefeated right now with a win against Bama, but you're still thinking about Texas Tech.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: They're talking mess because we talked mess at the beginning of the season.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: They deserve to talk the mess because we have been bad and they have been good.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: And I hate, I know it sucks, but don't talk mess then, and then you won't feel bad about it.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Steven, I am just generally not brave enough for trash talk.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: I'm just not.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: I'll do it, I'll do it in a funny way.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: That's how I like to I like to talk trash in a funny way.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Like I like when somebody says predict UT and I'll just say oh and 12, easy, and it's like it's stupid because it's unrealistic.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: I know that, but I it's funny, and that's how I talk mess.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: I will constantly talk mess about UT, but not in like a like mad way, yeah.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, in a serious, like in a serious way.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, one that's just not very fun, you know, because it just wraps you up into the wrong kind of mood and mindset.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: This is this this this whole sports thing is just supposed to be fun anyway and bring people together and have fun anyway.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, dude, I'm just not brave enough because I I don't need those receipts coming back and haunting me.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I'm a fan of Texas Tech football, dude.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what do you think what do you think?
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm like, oh man, it's playoff or bus.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Like, I think that's the kind of seasons we have.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: So I'm just not brave enough for it.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: I obviously like you, I'm like you.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: I just like making stupid memes and just having fun with it rather than like really taking it way too seriously in that you know, you know who took stuff too seriously?
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: The recent meme I did comparing Houston, Texas to Lubbock.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: That was funny.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, the Houstonians were after me.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: It was after Loving.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: It was even stupid.
- 32:18SPEAKER_05: I didn't put a picture of Lubbock, I put a picture of some like paranoid like Singapore.
- 32:23SPEAKER_05: It was, yeah, it's some crazy looking, like awesome ocean town.
- 32:29SPEAKER_05: That was really funny.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: A strip club strip club.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: It it was an old apparently.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: This is what the Houston, this is what I got from the Houstonians.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Apparently, at the galleria, there used to be like a big adult video store, or it was like an it was like an erotica store or something, and it was like a big pain in the ass, like an eyesore.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: All the Houstonians hated it, but they all knew of it because it was in like a really poppin' area, and now apparently that part has been torn down and turned into a velvet taco, which is kind of funny to go from an erotica store to now velvet taco, chain chain taco restaurant, yeah.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, chain taco, but uh no, the Houstonians were after me.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: They're the they were pissed off.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: They're like, oh, coming from the dusty ass cowtown, middle of nowhere.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: I'm like, bro, stop.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: You take life way too seriously.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: I honestly thought the worst part with that like that was gonna get actual backlash was the three poverty franchises.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Now, I I I made sure to be smart with my language there.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: I said two poverty franchises plus one that's notorious for cheating.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, I know it's gonna piss off some Houstonians because we got a lot of a lot of uh overlap there between Texas Tech and Houston Pro sports fans, but I am from San Antonio, so I gotta put my Rockets banter in there.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: I don't really care one way or another for the Astros.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Same kind of goes with the Texans, but the Texans truly they are on the up.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: I'll give them that.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: But poverty franchise, all things considered.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't think any Texas fran any Texan fan would ignore that, like would would reject that premise.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: They wouldn't.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: The Rockets haven't won a championship since the 90s, so I can continue to talk.
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, as San Antonio folk, it's it's it's the obviously it's the Spurs, and then it's the San Antonio Missions, and then it's the uh the San Antonio Commodores, or what what are the uh what's the football team there now?
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: Is that one there now?
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they have an XFL.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, go to them.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: Not the runners, but oh no, they're the uh they're the Brahmas.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: The Brahmas.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: The Brahmas, the XFL known franchise, the Brahmas.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: There's also San Antonio FC, which for like the lower, I think it's like the lower division professional soccer, like has won back-to-back championships.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: So hyped about it, you know?
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Freaking Austin getting an MLS TV for San Antonio.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: What a crime!
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Austin doesn't deserve anything, they don't.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Um moving on.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I hate when we bring up Houston because I feel like we just evolve into this every time.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Poverty franchises, poverty franchises.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: Houston Cougars have been a poverty team this year, much like our Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: Uh follow low-income wins-wise fan bases.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: They have more than us.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: They are two and two with losses to the Rice Owls and to the TCU Hornfrogs in their horrible showing for their first Big 12 home opener.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: Heck, man.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: Horrible showing.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Houston Couggs, I get it.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: You just lost a rice, so I get it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: That's when you put it in perspective like that.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: But they got beat down pretty good by TCU.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: They managed to 38-7 win over the same Eastern State Bearcats.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: We have a very familiar face coming in at the quarterback position to play our Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Who would that be?
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: That would, sir, would be unfortunately Donovan Smith.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: What do I win?
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Uh nothing.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: Nobody wins.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: Definitely not wins.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: That's nobody, nobody wins anything in this situation.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, Donovan, not a good start to the year overall.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Been uh very disappointed in him.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: I thought he was better.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: I still think he's better than what he's shown for the Cougars this year.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: It has not panned out.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Now, you can blame Dana, you can blame the rest of the offense.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: They don't have a ton of weapons, you can blame the defense, but regardless, Houston has not been a good team to start off this year.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: And your team knows Donovan Smith better than any team in the world right now.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: So use that to your advantage and take care of business against the Houston Cougars.
- 36:47SPEAKER_03: Please, I'm begging.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a good that's actually a really great point.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: I didn't even think about that.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: I didn't even think about how we should, yeah, understand who that is more than anyone.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: So uh I mean, especially I mean Tim DeRuer has been uh coaching while he's been at Texas Tech as well.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: So we absolutely should be able to have him on raps.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: And uh Dana, uh I guess Dana took the Neil Brown spot of biggest rottler of the season.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: So he was on he was on the the decline, he was Dana.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: He was he was he was he was not doing well with the fan base, and now he's especially not doing well.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, the one thing about Donovan Smith, and the one thing our defense has struggled with consistently is a running quarterback.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: And guess what?
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Donovan Smith likes to run the football and escape the pocket.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: So if our guys on the edge and our guys in the box don't get it together on a on a known running quarterback that you guys practiced against for a whole year last year, and to probably two years, two, three years at this point, you need to know how to stop Donovan Smith.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: You know what to do, you just have to execute.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: That's a great point.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: And uh, I like how you made a good point about how we know who this opposing quarterback is, and then followed it up with we know what we're really bad at.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: So I really appreciate that.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: I like you keeping the vibes very even.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: You bring out you pick us up high, and then he drop us real low, bro.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: I really appreciate it.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I gotta do it.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: I gotta do it, gotta do it to him.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: Houston last year they had guys like Clayton Toon, no more.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Donovan Smith is taking over for him.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: Tank Dell, who is killing it on my fantasy bench right now.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, shout out to Tank Dell.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: He's starting next week.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the squad, Tank.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: I am ready to unleash the tank.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's a huge weapon that they lost.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: And uh, like, no kidding, I was he was probably one of the most impressive receivers I saw in college football last year.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: So that's a huge loss for them.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: It seems like uh Samuel Brown is kind of taking over the mantle there, leading the team and receiving so far this year.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: Matthew Golden is a good player.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: Uh doubt he can kind of go inside, outside.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: Man Jack's decent.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: He had a pretty good game against Tech last year.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: So they have some weapons.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: Can Donovan Smith utilize them and you know play his game?
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: I hope not.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: It's it's funny, you know.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, we went into the last game of West Virginia expecting a poor showing from what was expected to be a poor team.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: I unfortunately see some parallels here.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: I feel like uh we're playing down to our competition to maybe put it lightly, um, and not exactly just blowing out who you're better than.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: And I feel like we may have a closer game than expected come Saturday.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: I I'm definitely not just penciling it in as an automatic win.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: And all I gotta say is I'm I'm very happy it's at home.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: And TechStech has been really, really impressive with our show out crowd-wise.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: I'm scared it's gonna start dwindling at this point due to the record, but I'm optimistic that it's not, and hopefully it'll stay it'll stay loud for the for the Houston Couggs.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but like you, like you, like you've been pointing out, man, it's it's obviously they have some some weapons that could definitely gut us if used correctly, but like Donovan Smith, but I'm I'm not I'm I'm not I'm not feeling too bad, but I'm not feeling too competent either.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech has won 10 out of the last 11 matchups against the Houston Cougars dating back to 1991.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: A lot of those games pretty close, some not so close.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: The last one last year, overtime, 33 to 30 victory.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: Who ran in the game winner?
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: Donovan Smith did.
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: Um in overtime.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: We've had their number.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: We had West Virginia's number as well, and that is gone.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: So no, I uh totally 100% agree with you.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: I have been way too confident in this team going into these predictions and how uh you know, looking at how this game is going to potentially play out.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: You cannot expect Texas Tech to win this game.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: You can't I'm not saying that Houston should be expected to win as well, but I'm just saying at this point, you can't expect good football to be played by Texas Tech.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: And and the football that you should play with the team that you have at Texas Tech, because I firmly, firmly still believe that this is a talented roster with a lot of talent, a lot of guys that should play at the next level and should be better than what they've been this year.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: So that's what I do when I'm previewing is I expect the best because I know these guys are better than what they put out there on the field.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: We have so much seniority and so many guys that have played so many snaps in college football, and it's that's why it's so disappointing because you have the team, you have the team this year, and you're not doing it.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: Do you think there's gonna be anything to a slight reset button push with offense right now?
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: I feel like you know, where you're introducing the new, you know, placeholder, a new quarterback, it kind of feels like it's kind of refreshed a little bit, especially in practice, because everything's gonna be running through Barron Morton primarily instead of Tyler Shuck.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Do you think that's that means we're gonna see a different kind of offense come Saturday?
- 42:32unknown: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Offense-wise, play-wise?
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think naturally you see a little different type of offense when you have Baron Morton versus Tyler Shuck because they're different quarterbacks.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Baron Morton likes to air it out a lot more.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: He gets the ball out pretty quick, he likes the offense to be moving a little quicker, he doesn't take off as much as Tyler Shuck does.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: So, from that perspective, yeah, you should see a different offense.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Now, are the receivers all of a sudden gonna start catching the ball?
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: That's another story.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: You hope so.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, maybe the West Virginia game is different if you start catching the ball.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Maybe the Oregon game is different, maybe the Wyoming game's different.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: But from what we've seen so far this year, you can't expect that.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: And so I would be I would love to be, you know, proved wrong here.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: And everybody catches the ball and we're airing it out and we're scoring 50 burgers and all that good stuff that we were promised.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: But right now, you're the only thing that's working is Taj Brooks, and you need to use that.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, dude.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: Um, I think I think a different defensively, I know you pointed out this this this this defense has not been playing perfectly in offense and in in Houston shows some threats offensively against our the way our defense has been playing week wise.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: Um but I that's not where any of my worries lie.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: It's I think I think my worries still lie with a sputtering offense.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: I think the what's what's gonna make or break this this Saturday, I know it sounds stupid.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Stupid to just say you're gonna score more points the other guy to win, obviously, but I think it's can the offense score more than 25 points to well to what I would expect to be a secure bag at that point.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: I think I think our defense can hold a Houston to below 25 points, but can our offense score more than that is uh my ultimate question coming this weekend.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that's how you should think.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: I have been I I don't want to be sound like I'm down on the defense.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: The defense has been fantastic.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: I've been thrilled with how our defense has played when you look back at everything.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: But you know, I'm just not saying they're blameless for everything.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: So, right, yes, what you said is 100% the truth.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: We need the offense to be better for a win here, and the defense is going to give up some points naturally, it's gonna happen.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: So, our offense needs to help them out a little bit and give them rest.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, stay on the field, guys.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: Like three and these three and outs are killing me every single time.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Three and out, punt.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: I love Austin McNamara, but I don't want to see him that much.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: I don't.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: He's been hot, dude.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: He's been playing so well.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: He's great, he's fantastic.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: I don't want to see the punter on the field all the time.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: Punting is winning, Steven.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: There's some Big Ten football stuff.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: But some of that we say that we say that like in a joking, funny way, but dude, I mean, with some of these fourth down drives, sometimes the punting is winning right now, but that's true, that's true.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: We're I mean, uh yeah.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Um I cannot believe this is how what how we're talking this season.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: We should be being we should be like at minimum three and one saying we're gonna go kill Houston, but we're not.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: I hate this stupid sport.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: I hate this sport is for Neanderthals.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: I like big brain sports like math.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: Like like chess.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: Like books.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Like books and chess.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: That's what I care about.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: History and mathematics.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: References, quantum mechanics.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: The Purdue Owl.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: Okay, all right, I'm back in.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: We're done with the back in.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: I'm we're done.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: I'm done.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: We only care about the sports that we're good at, which are still Texas Tech Soccer.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: Killing it, killing the ladies, killing it.
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: Nine wins, zero losses, two ties on the year.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: We have not lost a game this year for the ladies.
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: Three and oh in the Big 12, coming off a thrilling walk-off penalty, not penalty, but well, it was a penalty, game winner against the UT Longhorns at literally at the buzzer.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: You do not see this in soccer where they get it at the buzzer quite like they did.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: And Hannah Anderson have it all.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: That was incredible.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: Like, this is like I said, soccer's not a sport where it's oh, it's it's you another buzzer beater.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: What a what a game.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: You know, that's just it never happens.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: And to do it against your biggest rival in Austin on their last season, it couldn't, it couldn't taste any sweeter.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: And I'm praying it's a prelude to future endeavors in Austin, but uh seriously, dude, the soccer deserves all the credit.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Like you said, they are nine wins in.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: They we haven't lost a single game at home.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: We're ranked, they got things going.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, coach stone has is has been great, and I really think I really think that uh they're in for a really great season.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: It's about time to for us to make a deep run into the postseason.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: It's been a bit, and they're really shaping up for this to be a really great season.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: Maybe make a run at the Big 12 title and grab a trophy.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: So it's it's we're in good hands over there and Lubbock when it comes to soccer right now.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: Ashley Williams, also the national player of the week.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, we'll take that answer.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: She's been fantastic, she's scoring all the goals.
- 48:06SPEAKER_03: It is really uh soccer's fun.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Soccer's fun, it's the best sports.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: I've always I've always said I'd rather be on the pitch than the field.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, absolutely, my man.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: Um no, Texas Tech Soccer's been awesome.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: The catch.
- 48:26SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm going to catch every game because we're winners and we play OU on the 28th.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: So tomorrow.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: Fantastic.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: We're playing them in Lubbock.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: Go show, yeah, go show out, go support.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: Always you got two straight games in Lubbock.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: So Oklahoma bringing in uh Cincinnati as well, a newcomer.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: So excited for soccer.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Volleyball also had a big win.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, upset over number 17, Kansas.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: We went down the first two sets, and then we came back and swept the last three, won three sets to two.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: Another big I it was back to back for soccer team and then uh volleyball.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: So shouts out to them.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: The old reverse switch.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, old reverse sweep right there for the ladies.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: Been been a fun one, been a fun one.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Do you have anything you want to touch on?
- 49:18SPEAKER_03: Again, 42 days until basketball season.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: That's exciting.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna start deep diving a little more, trying to understand this team, but uh one.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep saying basketball because it makes me happy.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: Basketball is a good sport.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: That's a good that's one of the good ones.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: As of right now, they're undefeated, too.
- 49:33SPEAKER_03: As I'm saying, I've been saying this.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Grant McCastlin hasn't lost a single game as our head guy.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: One thing that McCastlin has done is he has grabbed the hearts of the national media.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: Grant McCastlin is making friends in the right places.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: Something that Mark Adams never did when it comes to the national media for writers, for anything that care about college basketball.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: He is very held in very high regard by these people.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: He's he's getting preseason nods.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech is getting a lot of love.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: Now, it's not necessarily for this coming season, but it's for the future of Texas Tech basketball.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: He's getting a lot of love.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: And that's because Graham Castlin rules.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: He's a good guy, he's a great coach, he's won everywhere he's been.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: So it's just nice to see that it doesn't feel like the media's against you like the last couple of years, you know.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: He he does seem a lot more warm and inviting into the into the program, like getting any all eyes in and all that.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: He's not that active on social media, but that's no big deal as long as he's talking to the right people.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: Um, I love it, dude.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: And he he seems obviously he seems like a a really great guy as well.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: So he's not gonna embarrass us on the national media like a couple of coaches have, uh, at least legacy-wise, at this point.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: Um, so it it's it's really great to see.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: And obviously, I I saw that uh looks like John Rossine has us at number 40 right now.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: And I don't hate that at all.
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: So that's a that's a tournament team.
- 50:59SPEAKER_03: That's tournament team in the preseason.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 51:01SPEAKER_03: So uh go ahead.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: Sorry, continue.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: No, no, you please you.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, I was just gonna say that Grant McCassin was also named preseason Big 12 coach of the year by the almanac, which is run by the guys at like field of field 68, which does it does involve Jeff Goodman, but there's other guys on there.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Rob Dowster's a good one, and uh a couple more college basketball guys that uh know what they're talking about.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: So cool to see that.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, you're saying Jeff doesn't?
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll warm up to Jeff.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: It seems like Jeff likes Gray McCassin, so he may warm up on Texas Tech, but we are literally Jeff's profile pick.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: Not anymore.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: I think he changed it.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, he changed it?
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: He might have changed it.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: He may, yeah, he may he may still be the Ric Flair guy, but uh old Jeff Goodman.
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, no, absolutely.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: And speaking of basketball, I am so glad that we have pinned to the expedition game with AM.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, what a what a fun matchup, dude.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: Uh, old rivalry revived.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: You know, it's gonna be a lot there's probably a lot of energy in that stadium, even though it doesn't count.
- 52:03SPEAKER_02: It's a lot of fun to talk about with your Aggie friends at work before before it and everything.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: Just what a talk about an instant opportunity to buy by to instantly get buy-in from the fans immediately.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: You beat one of our biggest rivals, okay, in one of your first games.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: We're we're feeling pretty chummy with you, sir.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: We we indeed like that a lot.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that uh exhibition game is set for October 29th.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: All proceeds are gonna go to the Maui Wildfire relief efforts, which is a cool deal.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Um, you wish this was an actual legit non-conference game that would count towards your schedule, but hey, regardless, you're playing an old rival.
- 52:39SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, this turns into an actual, you know, non-conference game in the future.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: But for sure, really cool, really cool deal.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: I'm glad they do these sort of ex tech does these exhibition games pretty consistently.
- 52:49SPEAKER_03: Um, not always with like an AM or so, but um really cool, really cool.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Uh glad they're playing it.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I really I really hope this gets the uh administrators for both schools talking to each other again.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: I'd love to start scheduling them in football and basketball a lot more and baseball.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: Always down to play the ags and get them back.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: I like beating the aggs, so let's play the eggs to beat the aggs.
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: All right, Hicks, let's go.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: Not much has changed.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: More football.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: I'm very happy we're talking about football again.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: I know for a second there, dude.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: I was feeling optimistic and really excited about the future.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: Not anymore.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: You had to just ruin my life, so please continue.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: You're shooting your shot.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: You did better than me last week.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: You're you're up now by three instead of two.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: You're shooting 73% on the air.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: I am still at Steven.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: Not in basketball.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: I'm not shooting that in basketball.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: No, 68%.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: Your boy over here.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: 42 of 62, you're 45 of 62.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: First Big 12 game.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Cincinnati at BYU Friday night.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: BYU Cougs, two-point home favorites.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Not as big as I thought.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: BYU coming off a loss to Kansas, Cincy coming off a loss to OU.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I'm gonna go by UYU here.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: I know that seems like the easy pick, but I think the home environment's gonna get them over the hump.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: I bet it'll be a close game, though.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: I bet it'll be like a field goal difference.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: I also went with BYU.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: I think they're better.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: I think they're clearly a better team than Cincinnati.
- 54:23SPEAKER_03: And being at home, I think they're actually gonna win by a touchdown or two.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't really believe in Cincinnati that much.
- 54:28SPEAKER_03: I uh watched I watched the majority of that OU game, and it was fine, but it wasn't great.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: I didn't see a lot I liked from Cincinnati.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: So uh moving on, the Baylor Bears traveling to the bounce house.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: UCF hosting UCF, an 11 and a half point favorite.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: First Big 12 home game.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: Those fans are gonna be going nuts.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, I have UCF.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: Who do you have?
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: I have UCF as well.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: They're they're gonna be really excited.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: That's gonna that's actually gonna be a fun Big 12 opener to watch.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, unlike I mean since tonight was obviously a packed house too, but unlike Houston, you know, we're gonna have actually a fun bounce house in there.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: But I think I think the UCF take care of the Bears.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: The Bears look lost right now.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: And the Baylor, Baylor fans are just as frustrated as we are right now, even even though they didn't have those expectations, but they are still that UT game was brutal.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, Baylor fans are on the fire Aranda, they're starting to really get there on him.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: And I don't know if they're necessarily warrant it.
- 55:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:28SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Uh he I don't think so either.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: He won what second year.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: That was a lot of rules players.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: That's what they're gonna say.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: Randa just a just doesn't seem to get it together uh these last couple years.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: So we'll see if they could turn around or anything.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: But sorry, Joe, we're still gonna be there, we're still gonna be tailgating.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, seven seven p.m.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: kickoff for the butt ball.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: How about robbery on ESPN two robbery, plus robbery?
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: How did we do I cannot believe we're gonna have a whole day before the game?
- 55:58SPEAKER_02: That's insane.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: They knew that we were going to see Joe Goodman at the tailgate, and they said you need some time to get messed up before this shit show that you're about to see in the butthole.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: It's you know, this this I we'll talk about more next week, but before we move on, this this Baylor tech game, I feel like it's gonna be more camarader than like rivalry.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be like commiserating.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: We both stink.
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: What's up?
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: Who stinks slightly less today?
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's gonna be a lot of self-deprecation going on in that one, but uh moving on.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: We got our only ranked-on-rank matchup for the Big 12 this week, number 24 Kansas traveling to Austin, the number three Longhorns, Texas, 16 and a half point favorites at home against the Jayhawks.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: Sir, who you got in the noted rivalry of Kansas versus Texas?
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: Yo, I got some room.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: Frick it.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: Destiny awaits Jayhawks.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, you wanted to do Jayhawks?
- 57:06SPEAKER_04: I wanted to do the Kansas one.
- 57:09SPEAKER_04: I'm doing it regardless.
- 57:10SPEAKER_04: Kansas winning.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: They're for sure covering.
- 57:14SPEAKER_03: They're not gonna lose by more than 17.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: They're not, it's not gonna happen.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: But no, Kansas is gonna beat the freaking loghorns, and the meme will live on.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: The meme, the meme will be solidified in history because no way you see is booking them once they leave the S for the SCC.
- 57:32SPEAKER_02: No way they're gonna be having Kansas preseason for more memes to happen.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: I'm ready for this one.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: I think it's happening at the same time the tech game is, so I'll be keeping up on the phone or whatever, but no.
- 57:44SPEAKER_02: Tech fans and bail fans will either be cheering or booing.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: Go Jayhawks, go Jayhawks, baby.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: Iowa State traveling to Norman, the number 14.
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma, Iowa State 1-0 in the Big 12.
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: You know who's not one-on-o?
- 58:00SPEAKER_03: Us.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: Stinky.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: Stinky.
- 58:04SPEAKER_03: OU 20 point favorites against the Cyclones and Norman.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: Sorry, there's no meme here.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be the Sooners.
- 58:14SPEAKER_03: Damn it.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're we're we're on the same page for all this.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: I hope it happens.
- 58:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think we all do, but in Iowa State's defense is good.
- 58:25SPEAKER_03: I just don't know if old Rocco is gonna go into Norman and upset OU.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: Even though OU didn't look fantastic against Cincinnati, but I also think Cincinnati is quite stinky.
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: So a lot of smelly smelliness in the conference this year.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: It's not good, it's not it's not great overall looking at these teams.
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: Uh last game before, obviously, Texas Tech.
- 58:49SPEAKER_03: West Virginia traveling to Fort Worth, or as I've seen it called Fart Worth on the Twitter.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: It is good.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
- 58:59SPEAKER_03: I'm proud of West Virginia.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: I'm happy they can meme in some sort of happiness.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, I hate that we lost to them, but hey, power on, trust the climb, baby.
- 59:09SPEAKER_03: TCU, 12 and a half point favorites in this one.
- 59:12SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: Neil Brown or Sonny Dykes?
- 59:16SPEAKER_03: Fartworth.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go Fart Worth.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: West Virginia stinks.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: We lost to a stinky team.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like obviously they're not as bad as expected, but they're stinky.
- 59:29SPEAKER_03: They're bad, they're not good.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: We're just bad.
- 59:31SPEAKER_03: They can't score score, like they cannot score.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: We've just been very bad, and we lost to a bad team while playing very bad.
- 59:39SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I'm also gonna take the horn frogs in this one.
- 59:43SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I don't I don't really know what else to say.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: I'm sad, is what I could say.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: Sad.
- 59:53SPEAKER_03: PAX schools coming over to the Big 12 next year.
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: Great article by uh who wrote it for the Max Olson.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: I haven't had a chance to read it yet.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's a great article.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: I read it today.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: It was uh it was kind of outlining the whole journey of the pack schools joining the Big 12 and kind of thoughts from your mark and everything.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: It's really worth a read.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Um Max is the man.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_02: He's like the best CMB writer over there.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_03: The number 10 Utah Utes traveling to Corvallis against the number 19 Oregon State Beeves, Beavs killing it.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_03: Uh three-point favorites over the top 10 ranked Utah Utes in Corvallis.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_03: This is on Friday night as well.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: Who you got one.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: I love that the Beaves are making noise.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: I do, but I think we're gonna go ahead and stick with the Utes.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: I think the Uts is the more reliable pick here, and this is gonna be the best team the Beaves have faced yet.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: And I think I'm gonna go pro uh pro Big 12 here.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: Beaves are on the revenge tour.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: All right, Beevs are gonna beat the Utes at home in Corvallis.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_03: The fans are gonna be nuts because you know, at this point it's just eff it.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: We ball mode for the Oregon State and Washington State.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: So uh and they are balling, dude.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they are, they're all playing.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_03: The the Pac-12 is really good this year.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_03: The Pac-12's really good, which, you know, really unfortunate for the Pac-12.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm fine with it, but yeah, it's funny, but it's funny, but sad.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: Um only two teams, but sad.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: I'm giving this to the Beeves on uh let's go.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: I like that pick.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: I I I kind of I kind of regretted it as soon as I said it because I just want to be like Beevs all day.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: I want the Beaves to win the Big 12.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: I mean the Pac-12.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_03: So no Beaves winning the Big 12.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: We don't want that.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: No Beaves winning the Big 12.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: That'd be really impressive seeing how they're not even in the conference.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: Insane.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: Insanity.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: USC number eight traveling to Boulder.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, the Dion hype train has very much subsided.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_03: Uh it's kind of fallen off the rails after they got absolutely smoked by Oregon uh last week, and Dan Lanning let them know about it, which was kind of a baller move.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_03: After all the mess that that Colorado's been talking, it was kind of funny seeing them just get absolutely smoked.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm still on the Deion Hype train.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: I like Colorado.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_03: I'm not like anti-Colorado, there's plenty of those people, but um USC 21 and a half point favorites going into Boulder.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh they got smoked by Oregon, who you got USC Colorado.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: I said I was riding the hot hands last week, picking the buffs, but Steven, the Trojans are going down, bro.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: Oh no, the Trojans are going down.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_02: The buffs are defending Folsom.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: And I'm not all trying to just get some meme picks in here, but I am I'm going big time buff boy right now.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: I love the pick.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_03: I could not do it.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_03: There was no way I was gonna pick Colorado win this one.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: I do have chances to beat UT in Austin, Steven, but we could not do it with this, huh?
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_03: No, I couldn't do it.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: I couldn't do it, plain and simple.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_03: USC is gonna beat Colorado.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_03: Um moving on.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: Arizona State.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: This is stinky right here.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: This one's bad.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_03: Arizona State traveling to Berkeley to play the Cal Golden Bears.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_03: Cal 12 and a half point favorites over the down bad Arizona State Sundevs.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: I am going to, you know what?
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and throw them a bone.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_02: I think that I think let's go devils.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_02: Cal stinks.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: The devils stink.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_02: There's no home advantage to say speak of in Berkeley.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: So if they're gonna get one, it's gonna be this one.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: So let's go ahead and let them have it.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: I got cow.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_03: I got cows.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_02: You're cow bears.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: I am my cow bears are gonna pull it out against the Sun.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_03: The Sun devs stink.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_03: They all stink, they're bad, but yeah.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna take Cal.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know why both these teams stink.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_03: I don't know how they're 12 and a half point favorites.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna give them that.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: Um, but no, I'm gonna take it.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: We're we're opposite on every single game so far in the pack.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_03: I love it too.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: Last one, number seven Washington Huskies traveling to Tucson to play the Arizona Wildcats.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: Uh Washington, 18 point favorites in Tucson.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Washington's good, man.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_03: They're they're they're very good.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_03: Michael Penix is having a heck of a year.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: Steven.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: Please do it.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: I'm feeling fishy.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm feeling fishy.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: I'm riding the fish train.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_02: Screw this this other turn from Seattle.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_02: I'm going with this this this Tucson boy.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go there, man.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: Wildcats all day.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: Statement win.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_03: You're on the fish train, Jed Fish.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_02: Um great coach name, by the way.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_03: Great coach name.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_03: Washington's gonna kill him.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_03: They're gonna kill him.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_03: I got I got the Huskies.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: This you've messed up this week, sir.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_03: I am gonna catch up to you after this week with my watch, watch me clown you.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: Watch Colorado, watch Colorado and Arizona just come out of nowhere and beat some top 10 teams.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_03: Would love to see it.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_03: Not gonna happen.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the huskies.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_03: All right, last pick.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_03: We gotta do it.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_03: Another stinky bowl.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_03: We thought Iowa State, Oklahoma State was the stinky bull.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_03: This is a stinky bowl right here.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_03: Uh University of Houston Cougars traveling to Lubbock, Texas.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_03: Eight and a half point favorites.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_03: Over-under set at 51.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_03: Tristan who wins this game.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Matched up again with our old conference foes.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: Conference foes once more.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_02: You know who I got, Steven?
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: It is with great sadness, I tell you.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: That Texas Tech is going to obliterate that cover, sir.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: They're gonna go, they're gonna go way over.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: They're gonna destroy the Houston Cougars.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_02: And everyone's gonna feel like this is the greatest team we've ever had, once more, until we look at the record again and say, never mind.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_02: But it's gonna go great for us for once.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_03: Both of these teams will be two and three after this week.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: Damn it.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech is going to win this game.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Please.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: Please.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_02: It's not even like a sheer excitement I want us to win anymore.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_02: It's like necessity.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_03: I am on my hands and knees.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_03: We are pleading.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_03: We are pleading to you, God.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_03: Let Texas Tech beat the Cougars in Lubbock.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: I actually do think Tech is gonna win, and I don't think it's gonna be close.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_03: And I hate that I'm saying this because everything about my predictions have been wrong this year about Texas Tech.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_03: So I just look at these two teams the same way I looked at these the West Virginia and the Texas Tech teams and said there's no way.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_03: So this prediction means nothing.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_03: It always means nothing.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_03: Neither would you or I say affects the game, but I do think Texas Tech is going to win this game.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_03: And there it is.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, that's I you know I would probably pick the under on 51 after watching four games of this.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Um but hey, we'll see what happens.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: Donovan pulled out some magic last year against the Kooks.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_03: Hope it's the no, I hope it's the complete opposite.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_02: I see, I see, yes.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_02: So agreed, sir.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_02: All right, I'm glad we're on the same page with the most important one.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we will be watching, we will always be watching, even if this team was 0 and 4, we would be watching.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, easily.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: I'm there, I'm there every Saturday.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: And whether I hate myself or not after the game, I'm still gonna be there the next week.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: So I think most of y'all are the same way.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_03: Um, all right.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: You have anything else before we finish her off here?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Song of the week.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_02: No, dude, these these episodes suck to make.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_02: It's just they're just not fun.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_02: They're not fun, they're not fun.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_02: We can't play the song.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_02: We've only been playable.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_02: I'm glad we played the song last week.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I talked about it.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_02: Like, should we play the song?
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_03: You remind me, thank you for that because I hope it's not the only time we get to play it this year.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: Steven, I missed the song.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_03: I miss the song too, man.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_03: I missed the song.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_02: That's it for me.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Song of the week.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_02: So my song of the week is I'm gonna do a guy that I've done before.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: It's but it's been it's been a little while.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm gonna go with a collab song from John Bauman and Lubbock's own Charlie Stouts.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_02: And that song is a South Texas tune called Border Radio.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_00: Border Radio is playing low, solid, soft and sweet.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: Stacy across the Rio Grande, broadcast on it.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: And it's it's just it's one of those atmospheric songs where it puts you in a time and place where you're down in the southern plains of Texas and you're near the Mexican border and you can pick up on the Mexican radio.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: And it's just kind of like fantasizing about what she's singing, even though we can't understand it.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: So I really like it.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: A really cool premise for a song.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: And yeah, Border Radio, John Bauman.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_03: Very nice, very nice.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_03: Good song of the week, good artists.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_03: We met Charlie Stout at uh were we at the blue light?
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_03: He's always at the blue light.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_03: We were at the blue light.

- 1:10:32SPEAKER_03: No, we didn't.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_03: We didn't.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_03: Uh we weren't.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, but we were in the college mode.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_03: The college mode doesn't really belong at the blue light unless uh as much.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you need to go to Broadway and just get going to gyms.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_03: My song of the week is one last breath by Creed.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_03: Because this can't be the first Creed song you've done.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_03: No, I did the Creed, I did Creed like two weeks ago.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_03: That is so close to each other for a band like Creed.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_03: It's because of the lyrics that I am going to say to you now.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_03: They are lyrical geniuses.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_03: Please come now.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_03: I think I'm falling.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_03: I'm holding on to all I think is safe.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_03: It seems I found the road to nowhere, and I'm trying to escape.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_03: I yelled back when I heard thunder, but I'm down to one last breath.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_03: And with it, let me say, hold me now.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_02: Steven, I like how you sang the chorus when you're gonna play the chorus anyway.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_02: Thank you for doing that for the treasured listeners.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_03: You're welcome.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_03: The song especially spoke to me because I am down to my one last breath with this football team.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_03: And I need somebody to help give me some life.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_03: And the life will be given against the Kooks, please.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: Creed has a way of doing that to a man, Steven.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: They just speak to you.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_03: They do, they speak to me in ways that I never thought a band could speak to me.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_03: And uh, that's why they're my song of the week for the second time in the last four weeks.
