- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast, your home for
- 0:06Speaker 1: deer hunting news, stories and strategies, and now your host,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Mark Kenyon. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt Podcast. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: your host Mark Kenyan in this episode number two and
- 0:19Speaker 1: sixty five, and today in the show, I'm joined by
- 0:22Speaker 1: Codydquisto of Lone Wolf Custom Gear to dissect his uniquely
- 0:26Speaker 1: aggressive and purposeful approach to making his own luck in
- 0:30Speaker 1: the White Tail Woods. Hello, and welcome to the Wired
- 0:46Speaker 1: to Hunt podcast, brought to you by Onyx and today,
- 0:49Speaker 1: as I just mentioned him, joined by Cody de Quisto.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Now Cody, he's the son of Andre Dequisto, who you
- 0:56Speaker 1: might know if he's the founder of Lone Wolf tree
- 0:58Speaker 1: Stands and a very well known, accomplished deer hunter. UM,
- 1:01Speaker 1: a little bit of a legend within many circles of
- 1:03Speaker 1: the d I Y deer hunting community. But Cody stands
- 1:07Speaker 1: on his own as a tremendously successful hunter too. He's
- 1:11Speaker 1: taken scores of big mature bucks. Many many doesn't this
- 1:14Speaker 1: very aggressive mobile way, and it's it's a style that's
- 1:19Speaker 1: becoming increasingly of interest to folks hunting public land or
- 1:22Speaker 1: private by permission spots where hunting pressure can make things tough.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You've heard me talk about ways I've done You've heard
- 1:27Speaker 1: my buddy Dan talk about ways that he does it,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and a number of other guests we've had over the years.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But I feel like Cody takes things maybe next level
- 1:36Speaker 1: in certain in certain ways, very interesting style, and I
- 1:39Speaker 1: wanted to pick Cody's brain for a while about this,
- 1:41Speaker 1: kind of get the first hand scoop on how he's
- 1:43Speaker 1: doing what he's doing. Um So that's been on my radar,
- 1:46Speaker 1: But earlier this month, earlier in January, Cody pop back
- 1:49Speaker 1: up for me because Lone Wolf Custom Gear became the
- 1:53Speaker 1: talk of the two thousand nineteen a t a show
- 1:56Speaker 1: with a reviving of this brand and a whole bunch
- 1:58Speaker 1: of new products that Cody and his dad have been
- 2:00Speaker 1: working on. So this is kind of all the buzz
- 2:02Speaker 1: over the last couple of weeks, and it made me
- 2:04Speaker 1: realize I really got to get Cody back on here.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now is a great time to chat with him. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: finally that's what we've been able to do. We got
- 2:10Speaker 1: it scheduled, we made it happen, and what we're gonna
- 2:13Speaker 1: do here today is talk a little bit about the
- 2:16Speaker 1: new company, you're kind of this new revitalization of the
- 2:19Speaker 1: company and some of the new products coming up. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: then we spend the majority of the episode then diving
- 2:23Speaker 1: into a bunch of very specific examples of how Cody
- 2:27Speaker 1: hunts and successfully tags so many different mature bucks. Um,
- 2:31Speaker 1: it's very interesting. I really enjoyed his perspective and his strategies,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and a few of the points he makes along away
- 2:37Speaker 1: are just man, they're they're things to live by, some
- 2:40Speaker 1: really great things to keep in mind as we head
- 2:42Speaker 1: into this next season. So I'm excited for you to
- 2:44Speaker 1: hear this, but I do want to give you two
- 2:46Speaker 1: quick heads ups before we move on. Number One, there
- 2:50Speaker 1: is a little bit more adult language in this one
- 2:52Speaker 1: and some others, so just fair warning on that. Uh,
- 2:55Speaker 1: if that's not your cup of tea, you might just
- 2:57Speaker 1: want to skip ahead to the next one, or skip
- 2:59Speaker 1: back to another one, or maybe just don't listen to
- 3:01Speaker 1: this one with the little ones present. And Secondly, about
- 3:05Speaker 1: two thirds of the way you're so through our chat,
- 3:07Speaker 1: we started having a little bit of a sound quality disruption.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I apologize in advance for that, which it didn't happen,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but there are a few sections where things get a
- 3:15Speaker 1: little fuzzy on his end. Um. I decided though that
- 3:18Speaker 1: we're gonna keep that content in here because I just
- 3:20Speaker 1: think it's it's really interesting, the full interview intact. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: feel it should be there for those who want to listen.
- 3:26Speaker 1: But I do apologize for a little bit of that
- 3:28Speaker 1: sound issue that you will catch again eventually. So with
- 3:31Speaker 1: all of that out of the way, I think we
- 3:34Speaker 1: should just jump right into it. Let's take a quick
- 3:36Speaker 1: hot second to thank our partners at Morton Buildings, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: then we'll get on with the show. So, as I've mentioned,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm excited for this new partnership with Morton Buildings because
- 3:44Speaker 1: I've for a long time looked at Morton Buildings out
- 3:47Speaker 1: there on folks properties and been very very jealous Morton.
- 3:51Speaker 1: They're the builders of very high quality steel pole barns
- 3:55Speaker 1: and steel buildings. Um you know, they can be used
- 3:58Speaker 1: just as storage for your tractor and your hunting gear.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I've seen others where they're full born Paul barn houses
- 4:05Speaker 1: where you have a large storage area for your truck
- 4:07Speaker 1: and your tractor in your forward, but then also maybe
- 4:09Speaker 1: half of it is a living area. Um Man. I've
- 4:12Speaker 1: kind of dreamed of having my own little hunting properties
- 4:15Speaker 1: someday and a Paul Barn house on it. That is
- 4:18Speaker 1: is what I'm hoping to someday have, And it's kind
- 4:21Speaker 1: of neat to be able to talk about on the
- 4:22Speaker 1: podcast here, and it can't tell you about my dreams.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Maybe someday it will happen. But from what I understand
- 4:28Speaker 1: more is the place to get this done. They have
- 4:29Speaker 1: over a hundred years of experience. They're fully customizable. Like
- 4:33Speaker 1: I mentioned, you can have a Paul Barn house, you
- 4:35Speaker 1: can have a huge storage facility, whatever you want. They
- 4:38Speaker 1: have several different features that make these particularly high quality,
- 4:41Speaker 1: like their energy Performer installation. They have high ribs steel,
- 4:44Speaker 1: It's very low maintenance. And right now there are some
- 4:47Speaker 1: special promotional prices going on that are running through February.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So if you are in the market for a new
- 4:55Speaker 1: barn or Paul barn house or a little living space
- 4:58Speaker 1: on your property, you can head over to Morton Buildings
- 5:01Speaker 1: dot com to learn more. All right with me now
- 5:04Speaker 1: on the line is Cody de Quisto. Cody, thanks for
- 5:07Speaker 1: joining me here. Yeah, thanks Mark, thanks for having me on.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I looked I've been kind of looking forward to the
- 5:12Speaker 1: last couple of weeks. Yeah, me too, it was. It's
- 5:15Speaker 1: actually been something I've wanted to do for a while. Um.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I think I maybe reached out once a long time ago,
- 5:21Speaker 1: or we might have met very briefly at some trade
- 5:24Speaker 1: show a couple of years ago, but now it's finally happening,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and um, A man of the timing is good. I
- 5:29Speaker 1: think because you and your company, Lone Wolf Custom Gear
- 5:33Speaker 1: has been all over social media rate lately, a lot
- 5:37Speaker 1: of people asking questions about what's going on, new products
- 5:40Speaker 1: coming out, a lot of excitement I feel coming around
- 5:43Speaker 1: it because because your dad started Lone Wolf a long
- 5:46Speaker 1: time ago, many of us have used Lone Wolf tree
- 5:49Speaker 1: stands in the subsequent years, um, and they've been you know, amazing,
- 5:53Speaker 1: amazing products. And now you guys have got some new
- 5:55Speaker 1: stuff happening, which is which is exciting. So I think
- 5:58Speaker 1: maybe the kickings off, Cody, I just I feel like
- 6:02Speaker 1: there's there's just like some questions around what this company is,
- 6:07Speaker 1: how it's different than it used to be, what your
- 6:09Speaker 1: involvement is a Lone Wolf Custom Gear versus what you
- 6:12Speaker 1: used to do with XLP, or maybe you're still doing XLP.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Can you kind of just walk us through what you're
- 6:17Speaker 1: doing now, what's up with a new brand or the
- 6:20Speaker 1: old brand that's now revitalized the new products. Um, I
- 6:24Speaker 1: just just walk us through that. Yeah, yeah, no problem.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So UM. I mean essentially what you're seeing now, you
- 6:30Speaker 1: know is Lone Wolf custom gear um, pretty much the
- 6:35Speaker 1: same as the original Lone Wolf brand. UM. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: we added the custom gear because we we branched out
- 6:40Speaker 1: into a couple of different avenues. So uh, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: it's always been obviously known for tree stands, climbing sticks
- 6:47Speaker 1: and and that sort of thing. Um, but now we
- 6:49Speaker 1: have some some cameras and some other products so um.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But essentially what it is is it's a family based
- 6:54Speaker 1: company or own company that that uh you know, my
- 6:58Speaker 1: dad started back in my teen eight four out of
- 7:00Speaker 1: the garage in the backyard, UM innovative and design these
- 7:05Speaker 1: tree stands, and you know, spent a long time building
- 7:08Speaker 1: that brand. UM, and it's kind of been dormant for
- 7:11Speaker 1: a while. There has been a loan of tree stands
- 7:13Speaker 1: present for the last tenor sold years or actually might
- 7:17Speaker 1: even be a little longer than that. TUTA. Yeah it's
- 7:21Speaker 1: just teen years actually, so um. But that what you
- 7:24Speaker 1: see is is a licensing agreement. So UM he built
- 7:27Speaker 1: up his UM his line of tree stands, climenades and
- 7:31Speaker 1: stuff like that, UM and licensed those patented items as
- 7:35Speaker 1: well as the name brand UM to a company and
- 7:40Speaker 1: sort of got out of the business for a while. UM.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And it was, you know, we always had the intent
- 7:45Speaker 1: to relaunch the brand UM and I think we were
- 7:48Speaker 1: just kind of waiting for that right time. UM. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: this year marked the thirty thirty five year anniversary of
- 7:55Speaker 1: of the brand, so we figured it was it was
- 7:58Speaker 1: the perfect time to launch that. And so with with
- 8:03Speaker 1: the relaunch of the brand, like you mentioned, there's a
- 8:05Speaker 1: few new products coming out you guys, I don't know
- 8:08Speaker 1: how much you want to dive into it, but a
- 8:10Speaker 1: new revitalized take on your tree stands, UM, updates on
- 8:13Speaker 1: your climbing sticks. Can you walk us through some of
- 8:16Speaker 1: that stuff, and then maybe a little bit on the
- 8:18Speaker 1: other products you guys have to Yeah, yeah, So that's
- 8:21Speaker 1: that's definitely UM A big thing UM uh that I'm
- 8:27Speaker 1: proud of for this year. So so what I wanted
- 8:29Speaker 1: to do UM, you know when one day and I
- 8:32Speaker 1: started talking about the you know, the relaunch of the
- 8:35Speaker 1: brand and kind of getting back into it is UM
- 8:39Speaker 1: is really make a product again that cater to you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: our needs and guys like us, you know, sort of
- 8:48Speaker 1: like what happened back in the nineties when Dad you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: came up with that cast luminum in patent that technology. So, uh,
- 8:56Speaker 1: it's a little bit of different, um, different track you
- 9:00Speaker 1: would say, than what I've been doing with xop um.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You know, trying to appeal to the masses, get a
- 9:07Speaker 1: stand that that is good for everybody. UM, bring that
- 9:10Speaker 1: cast luinium technology, you know, at a more affordable price,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and just you know kind of as an industry all around. UM.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So this is definitely dedicated to more of a mobile
- 9:23Speaker 1: style hunter. So what we did is, you know, we
- 9:28Speaker 1: have hang on an extet of climbing sticks. But it's
- 9:32Speaker 1: more than a hang on climbing sticks. It's a it's
- 9:34Speaker 1: a complete system. So UM, it is a hang on
- 9:38Speaker 1: that completely eliminates all the little things that we were
- 9:44Speaker 1: upset with or didn't work properly or function smoothly on
- 9:47Speaker 1: the old models. And it integrates with the climbing sticks
- 9:50Speaker 1: everything from you know, transporting your gear too, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 1: inefficient up the tree one time to get set up. UM, lightweight,
- 10:00Speaker 1: innovative features, so UM, I like to definitely look at
- 10:04Speaker 1: it as a system. One of the biggest things on
- 10:06Speaker 1: this system is the uh you know, we're calling it
- 10:08Speaker 1: like a framepack feature. So what it is is the
- 10:12Speaker 1: seat actually locks into the casting and it essentially turns
- 10:16Speaker 1: your stand into a framepack. So, UM, it's really cool.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You have a nice shelf that can support whatever weight
- 10:22Speaker 1: you want to put on it. You can pack game
- 10:24Speaker 1: out with it, you can put your extra clothes on it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You can if you're filming, you're a camera guy and
- 10:28Speaker 1: you got all that equipment. UM. It gives you a
- 10:30Speaker 1: nice dirty shelf to rest your gear on. UM. And
- 10:34Speaker 1: when you couple that with the new sticks that actually
- 10:37Speaker 1: um plugging together like no other sticks on the market.
- 10:41Speaker 1: They actually flush and they mount right to the stand,
- 10:44Speaker 1: So you have a nice even, you know, even shelf there, UM,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and you're not loading one side of your stand he
- 10:51Speaker 1: ord and the other UM. So it makes for just
- 10:53Speaker 1: just awesome, awesome transport um and just ultimate like function. Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I see that it's seven and a half pounds for
- 11:02Speaker 1: the stand, now, is that right? Yep? Yep, The stand
- 11:05Speaker 1: total weight to seven a half pounds UM. We got
- 11:08Speaker 1: two sets of sticks. We have a full length like
- 11:11Speaker 1: a three step um and that is that's right around
- 11:15Speaker 1: two pounds at sticks, and then our compact size it's
- 11:19Speaker 1: it's a double step that one fits right into the
- 11:21Speaker 1: profile to stand and it's like you're, um, you're m'd say,
- 11:27Speaker 1: you know, maybe you're more more mobile friendly stick, you
- 11:29Speaker 1: know with those guys who really want to get as
- 11:31Speaker 1: compact and low profile. And that one was just a
- 11:33Speaker 1: pound and a half. Yeah, that's uh, that's really really
- 11:38Speaker 1: nice to see. I remember even with gosh, the old
- 11:41Speaker 1: assaults that I used to have, those are pretty darn lightweight,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and I think those are still like twelve pounds or
- 11:46Speaker 1: somewhere around that. So this is quite a quite a
- 11:49Speaker 1: chunk of weight and act off that too. So for
- 11:51Speaker 1: folks going going really mobile, that seems to be a
- 11:54Speaker 1: great option. Now. I've actually kind of added a little
- 11:57Speaker 1: bit of a tweak to my mobile set up because
- 11:59Speaker 1: I do I do a lot of this to hunt
- 12:01Speaker 1: a lot of public land new spots, even on my
- 12:03Speaker 1: private private properties. And I started using a saddle this
- 12:07Speaker 1: past year and I saw you guys have got a
- 12:09Speaker 1: saddle platform to what's the deal of that? Yeah. So,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and that's another thing that's kind of been um, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 1: the whole I feel like the industry as a whole
- 12:20Speaker 1: has been has been climbing and edging back towards this
- 12:24Speaker 1: this like um, it almost seems like it's getting more
- 12:27Speaker 1: in a mobile type um style than it even was
- 12:32Speaker 1: to begin with. You know, I think back then it
- 12:34Speaker 1: was like there wasn't mobile hunting. So the introduction of
- 12:37Speaker 1: those stands made mobile hunting this thing, or at least
- 12:41Speaker 1: more of a thing from semi permanent models. And now
- 12:44Speaker 1: it's like a you know that that that circle back
- 12:48Speaker 1: to the old way of doing things are a little
- 12:50Speaker 1: bit older way. Um. I feel like a lot of
- 12:52Speaker 1: things getting stagnant. So along with that, you know, a
- 12:55Speaker 1: popular model that Dad had um designed in the Lone
- 13:02Speaker 1: Wolf line before he uh licensed all let out to
- 13:05Speaker 1: the new company was the Assassin and that was sort
- 13:09Speaker 1: of the first of you know, the first of its kind,
- 13:12Speaker 1: like it was it was just a new thing, you know,
- 13:14Speaker 1: it was there was guys using tree settles a lot,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and guys are on footpegs or on light stands and stuff,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but there really wasn't a platform designed for those guys.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And that's what they did, and it went It went
- 13:27Speaker 1: over pretty well, but it was it was I think
- 13:31Speaker 1: it was still missed. It was overlooked at that time,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and not many people got into it too much. UM
- 13:37Speaker 1: And now in the last couple of years we've seen
- 13:39Speaker 1: a big influx of just guys going nuts for the
- 13:43Speaker 1: saddle type hunting and you know, getting more mobile, trying
- 13:46Speaker 1: to get lighter weight. So we found it. You know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: we knew that, you know, one of the first stands
- 13:51Speaker 1: that we would do and developed along with this lightweight
- 13:54Speaker 1: hang on was a saddle platform. And what we have
- 13:57Speaker 1: now is essentially designed in the image of the original Assassin,
- 14:01Speaker 1: a little lighter weight. It's got the cool, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 1: kind of techie look that we got with the new
- 14:06Speaker 1: UM you know, water jetting material, all solid, solid aluminum,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and it just it's mean, it looks really me and
- 14:13Speaker 1: it's got a lot of extra extra function than the
- 14:16Speaker 1: old one did as far as you know, perimitive grips
- 14:18Speaker 1: and you know, more leveling, just as solid. It's just
- 14:21Speaker 1: uh so that was definitely something we knew we wanted
- 14:24Speaker 1: in the line UM just to kind of um not
- 14:28Speaker 1: only accommodate the guys hunting like we are like me
- 14:32Speaker 1: personal and I don't use saddles. I just I'm so
- 14:34Speaker 1: I got my stand set up so dialed in that
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's it's just what I love to do. But there's
- 14:40Speaker 1: nobody out there that's really designing the highest most you know,
- 14:46Speaker 1: the highest quality, you know, best products for those those
- 14:49Speaker 1: mobile guys. So we wanted to get that every angle. Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and I'm excited to see that. I know, um more
- 14:54Speaker 1: and more people are trying to find different platform options
- 14:56Speaker 1: for those saddles, and I know some guys are actually
- 14:58Speaker 1: taking low wolf tree stands seats and modding those to
- 15:03Speaker 1: become like d I y platforms. And I guess some
- 15:06Speaker 1: folks that that works. Although I don't know how safe
- 15:08Speaker 1: it is. I'm not saying I would recommend it, but
- 15:10Speaker 1: it seems like a real platform designed to be a platform,
- 15:12Speaker 1: like you guys are doing. That's probably the safer, uh,
- 15:15Speaker 1: safer options. So it's it's good to see you guys
- 15:18Speaker 1: are putting something like that out there. Yeah, yeah, I
- 15:21Speaker 1: agree to. You know, it's it's you know, not that
- 15:23Speaker 1: the not that the seat the tree stand seats aren't strong,
- 15:27Speaker 1: but you know, they're just they're just not designed for
- 15:29Speaker 1: that you know, they're they're designed to be a seat,
- 15:30Speaker 1: They're not designed to have you know, all that weight
- 15:32Speaker 1: being pivoted off the side. So, um, I think this
- 15:36Speaker 1: is gonna give you know, and to aout the same time,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I feel people like kind of tinkering with stuff and
- 15:42Speaker 1: doing their own custom designs. I think this stand is
- 15:44Speaker 1: going to give a guy, you know, just a really
- 15:47Speaker 1: awesome advantage being able to buy a stand that designed
- 15:50Speaker 1: for that purpose, that will work in the scenarios that
- 15:53Speaker 1: they're using it. Um and also to you know, we've
- 15:56Speaker 1: we've made this stand now integrate with our new Compact
- 15:58Speaker 1: climbing stick, so it may sure like the ultimate little
- 16:01Speaker 1: little set up. You know, you've got to You've got
- 16:03Speaker 1: your your Compact sticks on your saddle platform and you
- 16:07Speaker 1: just kind of you know, you're all set up at
- 16:09Speaker 1: that point. Yeah, I think those new sticks are something
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna try out here soon because as I've been
- 16:14Speaker 1: tweaking my mobile set up, trying to get more and
- 16:16Speaker 1: more lightweight, I've still been using the old sticks. I've
- 16:19Speaker 1: got a couple of different pairs from maybe eight nine
- 16:22Speaker 1: years ago now, and it seems like there's there's definitely
- 16:25Speaker 1: some options that are significantly improved, this being this being
- 16:29Speaker 1: one of those. So I'm excited what you guys are
- 16:32Speaker 1: up to, Cody. Um, it looks like some really cool things.
- 16:35Speaker 1: And I guess before we move on the main thing, Um,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I do want to spend a lot of time you're
- 16:40Speaker 1: talking about is is why you and your dad are
- 16:43Speaker 1: so well equipped to put products with this together, because
- 16:45Speaker 1: of your hunting success. But if people do want to
- 16:48Speaker 1: learn some more about the new gear you guys are out,
- 16:52Speaker 1: where can they find that online? Uh, you can go
- 16:55Speaker 1: to www. Dot lone Wolf custom Gear dot com. Um
- 16:59Speaker 1: that has you know, a lot of info on all
- 17:01Speaker 1: the new products, products to come. Um, we are still
- 17:04Speaker 1: populating that website. You know, it's kind of a it's
- 17:06Speaker 1: a process and we're still you know, working on all
- 17:08Speaker 1: the final models. We're going to open up you know,
- 17:11Speaker 1: a lot more information here in the next couple of weeks. Um,
- 17:14Speaker 1: But you can get some good infro there. You can
- 17:15Speaker 1: sign up for the newsletter and figure out you know,
- 17:18Speaker 1: get any inside in scoop um and all the new products. Awesome.
- 17:22Speaker 1: All right, So your dad started lone Wolf. He I
- 17:27Speaker 1: think that it was basically him who started whitetail addiction
- 17:30Speaker 1: TV two and had a lot of folks that kind
- 17:33Speaker 1: of learned from him as far as you know how
- 17:36Speaker 1: to hunt, like Adam Hayes people like that that. I
- 17:38Speaker 1: think a lot of us know about today. See, I
- 17:40Speaker 1: feel like there's a lot of history that you probably
- 17:44Speaker 1: grew up around. Um, with the things that your dad
- 17:48Speaker 1: was doing. How did that impact How did that impact
- 17:54Speaker 1: why you hunt? I'm sure there's a lot of ways
- 17:56Speaker 1: that impacted how you hunt, But growing up in that,
- 17:59Speaker 1: how do you feel like that effects like your y
- 18:01Speaker 1: still now? Um? I it's a good question. Um, I
- 18:08Speaker 1: guess going back to the beginning, I mean, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: coming coming up in that sort of circumstance, I think
- 18:13Speaker 1: you know, into that to that point, like you mentioned,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I I got into hunting right when you know, kind
- 18:19Speaker 1: of the cuss or the white tail addictions. Um, you
- 18:23Speaker 1: know started being being a thing, you know, right when
- 18:26Speaker 1: filming your Hunt's got was getting more popular and all that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: So you know when I had a bowl in my hand,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I uh, um, you know from the start, there was
- 18:33Speaker 1: always a camera on me and it was kind of
- 18:35Speaker 1: it's kind of weird at first, um, But honestly, to
- 18:40Speaker 1: tell you the truth, I think at first it sort
- 18:42Speaker 1: of turned me off, you know, being uh, I guess
- 18:48Speaker 1: you know in a in a in a sense having
- 18:50Speaker 1: such a big shoes. Um, it was maybe you know
- 18:54Speaker 1: a little bit here and there. I didn't really didn't
- 18:56Speaker 1: really get bit by the ball at first, and it
- 18:58Speaker 1: wasn't pressured into it. So um, once I did become
- 19:04Speaker 1: just obsessed with the sport. And I I've seen that,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know, I developed that passion that I've seen all
- 19:10Speaker 1: these other guys that I was always surrounded by coming
- 19:14Speaker 1: up and not people that I came up with, but
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, just Dad, the guys he hunted with, like
- 19:18Speaker 1: you mentioned, and and um, I think that's when I
- 19:21Speaker 1: really just kind of went, you know, went full bore
- 19:26Speaker 1: and you know, being being competitive. My you know, I
- 19:30Speaker 1: always had that urge like you know, I gotta well,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I gotta get it done, you know, So it was, um,
- 19:37Speaker 1: sort of just a I don't know, I don't know
- 19:41Speaker 1: if I'm even asked answer the question. I think it's
- 19:45Speaker 1: a tough one because I feel like it's one of
- 19:47Speaker 1: those questions that a lot of us don't really have
- 19:50Speaker 1: to think about very often, because why do you hunt
- 19:53Speaker 1: what we just hunt? Because it's what we do, it's
- 19:54Speaker 1: what we love. Um, So it's it is kind of
- 19:58Speaker 1: surprising sometimes to sit back and try to think of
- 20:00Speaker 1: but I thought it might be interesting just giving kind
- 20:03Speaker 1: of the context that you came up in, I mean
- 20:06Speaker 1: to what you know. Oh sorry, yeah, you know, I
- 20:10Speaker 1: was even gonna say. You know, I think I really
- 20:13Speaker 1: think too that like the guys who are really into it,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I think there's something inside you man, like it's it's
- 20:17Speaker 1: one of those it's one of those primal things I think,
- 20:20Speaker 1: just to you know, to when you start doing it
- 20:23Speaker 1: and like we were just talking, you know before we're
- 20:24Speaker 1: on the phone, and you know, those those close encounters
- 20:27Speaker 1: and you know, um, you know kind of just giving
- 20:31Speaker 1: it to your all and and figuring out the pieces
- 20:33Speaker 1: of the puzzle and making it happen, and uh, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 1: especially with a with a bow, you know. And I
- 20:40Speaker 1: think it's there's a certain type of person, certain type
- 20:43Speaker 1: of mind that maybe like clicks with that more or
- 20:46Speaker 1: or loves it more and gets gets more kind of
- 20:49Speaker 1: infatuated and obsessed with that that experience and that sport.
- 20:54Speaker 1: So I think a lot of it's got to do
- 20:55Speaker 1: it just uh, I think it's in you too. You
- 20:58Speaker 1: know that that chess match, it just can can just
- 21:03Speaker 1: get you going down the down the pipe and you
- 21:06Speaker 1: can't stop. I can definitely relate to that, um So. So,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I've been kind of keeping tabs on what you've been
- 21:13Speaker 1: up to lately and how you hunt, because, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: without needing to refer back to you guy too much,
- 21:20Speaker 1: he's someone I was paying attention to you for a
- 21:21Speaker 1: long time. And then when I saw that you were
- 21:24Speaker 1: doing some of the same things but doing him in
- 21:26Speaker 1: your own way and having a ton of success, that
- 21:28Speaker 1: was that was really intriguing to me. Um So, I
- 21:31Speaker 1: guess I think I've got an idea of this in
- 21:34Speaker 1: my own head, but I want to hear it from you.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Let's imagine you were like on an elevator and you're
- 21:39Speaker 1: going from the fourth first floor to the tenth floor,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and someone on the elevator asks you to describe how
- 21:46Speaker 1: you hunt, like your hunting style, and you just have
- 21:49Speaker 1: like the one minute it's gonna take to go from
- 21:51Speaker 1: the first floor to the tenth floor. How would you
- 21:54Speaker 1: narrow down and describe your basic hunting style in that
- 21:57Speaker 1: one minute? If you had to kind of get it
- 22:00Speaker 1: down to the most essential I would definitely say, um,
- 22:06Speaker 1: aggressive or you know, I'm trying to think of words
- 22:10Speaker 1: like aggressive, consistent, you know, um, uh you know, UM,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I guess it's the biggest thing I would say that
- 22:20Speaker 1: I've learned, you know, throughout the years and and stuff
- 22:23Speaker 1: that I've taken from Dad, stuff that I've learned on
- 22:25Speaker 1: my own, is that make your own luck. Luck is not.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I mean, you can get lucky, but if you if
- 22:33Speaker 1: you go out in the woods and you think yourself, Okay,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I need to make this happen like that, don't let
- 22:38Speaker 1: anything come to you, you know, bring yourself to that situation.
- 22:41Speaker 1: That would be like, how that's how I look at
- 22:43Speaker 1: it every time, you know, Okay, hey, I could sit
- 22:45Speaker 1: on this field as you wait, but I'm not gonna
- 22:48Speaker 1: do that. It's not I'm not I'm an impatient person,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, I'm like, Okay, I need to find this.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I need to find what's going on. I need to
- 22:54Speaker 1: get myself in the right spot so I can get
- 22:56Speaker 1: so I can get the job done. So, UM, I
- 22:59Speaker 1: would definitely think, uh, you know, more of aggressive kind
- 23:03Speaker 1: of go go go style and just the opposite of
- 23:08Speaker 1: the opposite of lazy. Yeah, yeah, I heard you. I
- 23:11Speaker 1: heard you want to another interview say that you don't
- 23:15Speaker 1: get out just to get out, like you're never ever
- 23:17Speaker 1: gonna sit somewhere just well it's a it's a Saturday,
- 23:19Speaker 1: I can hunt. Someone's gonna sit in this tree and
- 23:21Speaker 1: hunt and see what happens. It sounds like that is
- 23:22Speaker 1: never what you're doing. You are always hunting somewhere for
- 23:26Speaker 1: a very specific reason at a very specific time because
- 23:29Speaker 1: you think you're gonna kill right then and there is that?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Is that an accurate summary? Yeah? Now, I mean I
- 23:35Speaker 1: that right there, that is the goal, you know, going
- 23:37Speaker 1: into the season, I tell myself, Okay, you know you
- 23:39Speaker 1: need to be on it, you know. And I'm not
- 23:41Speaker 1: going to say that I've never sat somewhere that I
- 23:43Speaker 1: didn't you know. You know, there's there's definitely times that
- 23:47Speaker 1: that I have gotten into a tree for no reason
- 23:50Speaker 1: and just sat there to be out and I was like, well,
- 23:52Speaker 1: you know, you're not gonna kill and if you're not
- 23:53Speaker 1: out here, you know, And then I sort of smack
- 23:55Speaker 1: myself in the face and it's like, you could be
- 23:57Speaker 1: doing way more than this to to you know, be successful,
- 24:00Speaker 1: to just you know, get down and go go look
- 24:02Speaker 1: around or or you know, start some eyes in the
- 24:04Speaker 1: game plan. So um, it's just like the whole thing
- 24:08Speaker 1: with what kind of you know, when we talk about mobile.
- 24:12Speaker 1: It happens to me all the time. I'm not gonna
- 24:14Speaker 1: say it doesn't. Sometimes I do get I get caught
- 24:17Speaker 1: up in old stuff, or I get caught up in
- 24:19Speaker 1: and waiting, and then as soon as I I'm just
- 24:22Speaker 1: really good at checking myself out of it, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 1: and noticing when I'm doing those things, and I immediately changed.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So um, to to your point, Yes, I want to
- 24:31Speaker 1: be in every time. I understand. I want to know
- 24:34Speaker 1: that that you know, either the deer I'm after or
- 24:37Speaker 1: a good deal that I think is you know, in
- 24:39Speaker 1: that area, could die, you know. And if I'm not
- 24:42Speaker 1: in that spot, I just you know, because I think
- 24:44Speaker 1: I think a lot of it's it's like a lot
- 24:46Speaker 1: of it's mine too. And if you're not in that spot,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and it may sound sound wacky, but you're sitting there
- 24:53Speaker 1: and you're you know, it's just if you're all negative
- 24:55Speaker 1: in that stand, like, I just don't think anything is
- 24:57Speaker 1: good that's gonna come from that, you know. I mean,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you know some people, you know, I mean, it does
- 25:02Speaker 1: happen sometimes, But I think those guys who are getting
- 25:05Speaker 1: you know, that luck and just by a chance killing
- 25:07Speaker 1: a good one are just it's a completely different, you know,
- 25:11Speaker 1: different story. Yeah. Now, I gotta I gotta imagine that
- 25:15Speaker 1: in order to be able to put yourself in those
- 25:16Speaker 1: kinds of positions during hunting season where you're that confident
- 25:19Speaker 1: about being in the right spot for a specific deer
- 25:22Speaker 1: for a specific reason, I imagine there's got to be
- 25:25Speaker 1: a lot of work that leads up to that moment
- 25:27Speaker 1: that makes it possible. A lot of scouting and stuff. Um,
- 25:30Speaker 1: we're you know, we're right now talking in late January.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Postseason scouting is obviously a hot thing as we get
- 25:38Speaker 1: here into February, March, April is snow starts melting, different
- 25:42Speaker 1: things like that. Can you kind of walk me through
- 25:44Speaker 1: what kinds of things you're gonna be doing in the
- 25:46Speaker 1: coming months to start laying that foundation? What like specifically
- 25:50Speaker 1: are you doing? Um? I definitely, I definitely do a
- 25:53Speaker 1: lot of shed hunting. You don't. And but to be honest,
- 25:56Speaker 1: even like shedheim, you know, I'll look around, I take
- 25:59Speaker 1: no um A lot of times I shed hunt pieces
- 26:02Speaker 1: that I already hunt, so I already kind of know
- 26:04Speaker 1: what was going on late season, I know what was
- 26:05Speaker 1: going on early season. Um, and I honestly hardly ever
- 26:09Speaker 1: hunt shed hunt like new pieces. Um. I think that
- 26:13Speaker 1: would that would definitely help me, and I'd definitely be
- 26:15Speaker 1: looking at, you know, all the sign that happened during
- 26:17Speaker 1: season on those shed hunts where the horns are. I've
- 26:22Speaker 1: I've heard a lot of good things of you know,
- 26:24Speaker 1: killing deer where you find their sheds. I've never really
- 26:28Speaker 1: personally correlated anything specific to that, like, I mean, you know,
- 26:32Speaker 1: I find I know a lot of guys who they
- 26:34Speaker 1: use that as a big piece of the puzzle. Um,
- 26:36Speaker 1: when I'm looking for sheds, I'm more so looking at
- 26:39Speaker 1: trying to get okay this year. You know he's gonna
- 26:43Speaker 1: probably be a shooter next year. You know the area
- 26:46Speaker 1: he's in late season, I'll probably surmize that much. But I, um,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, I've as far as late season and this time,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I mean yeah, I mean picking up horns, I guess, uh,
- 26:57Speaker 1: you know, I always take note of where or do
- 27:00Speaker 1: your feeding and fields where I see them when it's
- 27:02Speaker 1: really extremely cold out where you know, all that kind
- 27:04Speaker 1: of stuff. I mean, you know, trails pop up. You've
- 27:06Speaker 1: got highways that start when you've got deek snows and
- 27:08Speaker 1: and and those sort of things. But as the snow melts, um,
- 27:13Speaker 1: I think it's a really good picture before it greens
- 27:15Speaker 1: up and everything becomes just you know, covered up to
- 27:18Speaker 1: see what happened that late last season. If that's if
- 27:20Speaker 1: that's the stuff you're looking for? Yes, so so is
- 27:23Speaker 1: that kind of stuff you're looking for? Or maybe what
- 27:27Speaker 1: I should say is when is the most important sign
- 27:29Speaker 1: for you? Like when do you really try to scout?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Is it just as soon as as soon as i
- 27:34Speaker 1: get the bowl my hand and I'm ready to kill
- 27:35Speaker 1: something that's like my um, I've and and it it
- 27:40Speaker 1: might be different than a lot of other people and
- 27:42Speaker 1: how they go about things, but I I've went through
- 27:47Speaker 1: in the in the years of of like i'd say,
- 27:50Speaker 1: come coming into my own as like as a hunter
- 27:52Speaker 1: and really figuring out my own style and how I
- 27:55Speaker 1: do things. I tried to do a lot of summer scouting.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I tried to do, you know, and I've you know,
- 28:03Speaker 1: all those things like you know, I was out there,
- 28:05Speaker 1: you know, setting up stands after the season or you
- 28:09Speaker 1: know to where I've seen you know, good bucks in
- 28:11Speaker 1: that area, um, late season, and they're like, oh, this
- 28:15Speaker 1: this is a really good spot late season. You know,
- 28:17Speaker 1: let me just have to stand there. I'll go find
- 28:19Speaker 1: where they're you know, a nice hot creek crossing in
- 28:22Speaker 1: the middle of summer, and I set up the stands
- 28:23Speaker 1: on there and into whereas I killed good deer you know,
- 28:27Speaker 1: the following year. And it definitely helped. I think it.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I honestly think it. It hurts just it helped to
- 28:34Speaker 1: know general patterns and stuff up the land, but it
- 28:39Speaker 1: never really paid off like it does for me walking
- 28:44Speaker 1: into the woods. As soon as I know that I
- 28:47Speaker 1: can go figure something out, as soon as I know
- 28:49Speaker 1: I can really go after something, finding out what is
- 28:53Speaker 1: going on at that exact second. You know, I've I've
- 28:56Speaker 1: I've I've hung stands late season on deer before and
- 28:59Speaker 1: those deer now remain it next year. And you know,
- 29:01Speaker 1: so a stand that I was banking on thinking about
- 29:04Speaker 1: last year, Oh that you know that Big eight was
- 29:06Speaker 1: split in two was coming out here last year, He's
- 29:08Speaker 1: probably gonna be around here. You know. I'd make all
- 29:10Speaker 1: these you know, I'd surmise all these uh you know
- 29:14Speaker 1: things that I was thinking. I was like Okay, he's
- 29:15Speaker 1: probably gonna be right here, and I I'd be figuring
- 29:18Speaker 1: it out. And I just think that I was getting
- 29:19Speaker 1: ahead of my I think I was helping myself for
- 29:22Speaker 1: next season. And then next season would come and you
- 29:24Speaker 1: know that deer might have you know, not not made.
- 29:27Speaker 1: It might have got a racking faction, or he just
- 29:28Speaker 1: wasn't there for some reason. I got poached or you know,
- 29:30Speaker 1: into where uh, and then you know, the summer signed.
- 29:34Speaker 1: You know, all these deer are frequent in this well.
- 29:36Speaker 1: As soon as they come in a heart antler, I mean, boom,
- 29:38Speaker 1: the pattern changes. They're eating something different there. You know,
- 29:41Speaker 1: they got more testas when running through them. They're just
- 29:44Speaker 1: not as lax of there in summer months. So I
- 29:46Speaker 1: just really started focusing on you know, I take that
- 29:50Speaker 1: stuff into account and I and I do it here
- 29:52Speaker 1: and there. But like to me, it's like, you know,
- 29:55Speaker 1: it's like sitting at that race, you know, and when
- 29:57Speaker 1: that freaking gun gets fired, that's when I'm like, boom,
- 30:00Speaker 1: what is going on? Where's it happening? Now? How do
- 30:03Speaker 1: I kill something? You know? I try not to think
- 30:06Speaker 1: about that stuff. Well, yeah, they were there late season,
- 30:08Speaker 1: but who gives a ship. You know that deer was
- 30:10Speaker 1: here in the you know, in the summer, I was
- 30:12Speaker 1: getting I got pictures on the velvet at all, you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I hear that from a lot of guys. I gotta
- 30:17Speaker 1: have pictures, pictures of them all the summer. I velt
- 30:19Speaker 1: right here and they're hunting right there when the season opens.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Instead of going to look for a sign, figuring out
- 30:24Speaker 1: exactly where that there is now, well I stopp getting
- 30:26Speaker 1: picture them three weeks ago. Well white you hunting there?
- 30:29Speaker 1: You know. I mean so a lot of people just
- 30:31Speaker 1: get caught up. And I might sound like a broken record,
- 30:34Speaker 1: but on the past, um, I think it's very important
- 30:39Speaker 1: to to take things in here, take things in the
- 30:41Speaker 1: now and just figure them out. And if you find
- 30:43Speaker 1: out what's going on now is what was going on
- 30:47Speaker 1: in the past, well whatever that you know, then then
- 30:50Speaker 1: you're right. You know. Then you've you've checked your work.
- 30:53Speaker 1: You know, you're not you're not just banking on past sign.
- 30:57Speaker 1: You know, if if you go check it and it says, oh,
- 31:00Speaker 1: yet this deer is still doing what he was doing
- 31:01Speaker 1: in the summer, well then so be it. Go kill him,
- 31:03Speaker 1: you know, But but what if he's not you know
- 31:05Speaker 1: why you know why I commit to that. So, um,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I don't know, I feel like I might what we
- 31:11Speaker 1: even went off on a tangent. But but that's sort
- 31:13Speaker 1: of sort of how I feel about the um a
- 31:16Speaker 1: lot of the summer stuff. And another thing too, I
- 31:18Speaker 1: I really do think that these deer um, well no,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I don't think. I know, these deer make bigger gains, um,
- 31:29Speaker 1: And they're more susceptible to be killed if you leave
- 31:31Speaker 1: him alone and you're not trumping through the piece that
- 31:35Speaker 1: you're planning on hunting and you're not doing a lot
- 31:37Speaker 1: of that. Although I think they might take a little
- 31:40Speaker 1: bit more of that at that point in time because
- 31:42Speaker 1: it's not so you know, I think the summer there,
- 31:45Speaker 1: everything is more relaxed. Nothing's really like you know, being
- 31:48Speaker 1: hunted or whatever. But um, I do think that's a
- 31:51Speaker 1: big thing as well. And it's a big advantage too,
- 31:54Speaker 1: like if you know, if you know you've got some
- 31:55Speaker 1: good deer on the fort of your hunting, stayed hell
- 31:58Speaker 1: out of it. I mean you let them let them
- 32:01Speaker 1: have that, let them let them hang out, let them
- 32:03Speaker 1: let them grow their racks and the stress for the environment,
- 32:06Speaker 1: you know, and then boom, I just I jump in
- 32:07Speaker 1: there right as soon as I can kill them, I
- 32:09Speaker 1: figure out where they're going, where they're betting, you know,
- 32:11Speaker 1: I try at least, and then you know, you have
- 32:13Speaker 1: that element of surprise instead of you know, throughout the
- 32:17Speaker 1: summer you're in there trimming stuff, you're leaving cent, You're
- 32:20Speaker 1: you're walking around, You're bumping the deer. You know, you're
- 32:22Speaker 1: you're putting unnecessary stress on those deer um, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: before it's time. It's it's it's almost like kind of
- 32:30Speaker 1: showing your cards a little bit, uh in a in
- 32:32Speaker 1: a poker game, you know, I mean, like, why why
- 32:35Speaker 1: do it? That's the kind of that's that's the that's
- 32:37Speaker 1: the mentality I take into it personally. And I and
- 32:40Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, I know guys that that scout
- 32:44Speaker 1: the piss out of their property and summer they kill
- 32:45Speaker 1: good bucks every year. So I'm not saying it's not
- 32:48Speaker 1: the it's just the way I you know, the way
- 32:50Speaker 1: I kind of look at it. But so so that
- 32:52Speaker 1: makes sense. But then my immediate next question, though, is
- 32:57Speaker 1: how do you do that kind of scouting to figure
- 33:02Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff out during the season without
- 33:05Speaker 1: having the same negative impact that you talked about in
- 33:07Speaker 1: the summer. So how do you get in there learn
- 33:10Speaker 1: this stuff without spooking those deer out right then and
- 33:12Speaker 1: there when you actually can hunt them. Um, I feel
- 33:15Speaker 1: like that's the big like balancing act I imagine you
- 33:18Speaker 1: have to handle. So in the answer to that is,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I don't care. I know that right when I go
- 33:24Speaker 1: in there, I will be setting up a stand that
- 33:27Speaker 1: time and I will be waiting for that dear. So
- 33:29Speaker 1: I don't that completely. That doesn't even enter my mind.
- 33:33Speaker 1: You know that that thought processes. You know a lot
- 33:35Speaker 1: of guys, Oh, I don't want to go in there
- 33:36Speaker 1: because because I'm gonna ruin it. Well, I don't think
- 33:39Speaker 1: like that. I go in there, Well, I have to
- 33:40Speaker 1: go in there because I want to kill him. Because
- 33:42Speaker 1: I want to kill that deer. Now to that to
- 33:44Speaker 1: that point, you know, if I know there's a if
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'll look at arials, I'll surmise where I think if
- 33:50Speaker 1: a deer was in that area where you come out
- 33:52Speaker 1: speed you know or whatnot, And I you know, I'm
- 33:56Speaker 1: not going to go trump right in there the first day.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I mean, you can find out a lot by you know,
- 34:01Speaker 1: scouting an edge where you know, you know deer aren't
- 34:03Speaker 1: betting or edge of a food source and hanging a stand, um,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and you know, damn well, you can be in a
- 34:08Speaker 1: spot where you can kill him. But my mentality on
- 34:11Speaker 1: that is simply, well, as soon as he finds me out,
- 34:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna be in a position to kill him. So
- 34:15Speaker 1: I don't care, right because when he's when he's having
- 34:19Speaker 1: that aha moment, you're slipping an arrow of if there
- 34:21Speaker 1: was that's that's kind of the you know that that's
- 34:25Speaker 1: definitely the uh, the game plan, you know, I mean,
- 34:29Speaker 1: if if if you can sneak in there, um and uh,
- 34:33Speaker 1: you know, I mean think about it. That dear has
- 34:37Speaker 1: never been tipped off of you. You you haven't been
- 34:40Speaker 1: scouting that place, you haven't been leaving any he's been.
- 34:42Speaker 1: He's been there, you know, doing his thing the whole time.
- 34:46Speaker 1: You come in, you find him and you're immediately hunting
- 34:49Speaker 1: him instead of coming in finding the spot. You scout around,
- 34:52Speaker 1: Oh man, this would be a good spot, and then
- 34:53Speaker 1: you hang a stand. You know, you leave it. That
- 34:56Speaker 1: deer might even start to kind of straightler from that area,
- 35:00Speaker 1: or at least I think that, you know, if you're
- 35:02Speaker 1: doing that stuff months before the season, and you're you're
- 35:04Speaker 1: going in there, and then a lot of guys will
- 35:06Speaker 1: hang camera. It's like right on there there standing thing
- 35:08Speaker 1: that they hung and then they'd be checking those even
- 35:10Speaker 1: though they only check them like once a month. But
- 35:12Speaker 1: any any messing around in there, I just think, you know, if, if,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and even if you know he's there, if I know
- 35:17Speaker 1: he's there, I'll get the hell out. I won't trim
- 35:19Speaker 1: a damn thing, I won't hang a stand, I won't
- 35:21Speaker 1: set a camera there if I know, what do I
- 35:24Speaker 1: need five pictures of him for? If I know he's there,
- 35:26Speaker 1: and I plan on killing the opening with the season.
- 35:28Speaker 1: So that's that's just the kind of way I look
- 35:30Speaker 1: at things. I don't, you know, it's I don't know.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I also I don't know if that makes sense, but
- 35:38Speaker 1: but it does, I hope so so so I know
- 35:41Speaker 1: you kill the buck this past season on I think
- 35:43Speaker 1: it was October twelve, maybe um was that hunt the
- 35:49Speaker 1: way that things led up to it. Was that a
- 35:51Speaker 1: good example of what you're describing here, And if so,
- 35:54Speaker 1: could you actually walk us through, like from October one
- 35:56Speaker 1: through October twelve, what you did each hunt leading up
- 36:00Speaker 1: to that kill. Finally, I'm kind of curious to hear
- 36:02Speaker 1: if you, like you knew about him, you made a
- 36:04Speaker 1: move on. I tell her first it wasn't quite right.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You tweaked it again. I made another move? Is that
- 36:08Speaker 1: is that kind of what happened that this year? This year? Um,
- 36:12Speaker 1: definitely is in the typical fashion of how I normally hunt.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I killed him in the in the timber, you know,
- 36:17Speaker 1: on the way back to his bed, after figuring out
- 36:19Speaker 1: where he betted. But as far as a clear, clean
- 36:22Speaker 1: example of what was going on and in like an
- 36:25Speaker 1: early season and not messing up the property, um, it
- 36:29Speaker 1: might not be the best example. I have other deers
- 36:31Speaker 1: that are like perfect. You know, you can you can
- 36:33Speaker 1: uh line up the story, you know, um, day by day.
- 36:37Speaker 1: This one was more so I had no idea where
- 36:40Speaker 1: he was. I was more so focused on a different
- 36:43Speaker 1: side of property. Um. You know it. It actually showcases
- 36:48Speaker 1: maybe another lesson to be learned, you know. I I
- 36:51Speaker 1: knew there was a good buck on a different different area.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I was hunting a different area of the majority of
- 36:57Speaker 1: the beginning of season, you know, and I was hunting
- 37:00Speaker 1: this deer and hunting this deer, and you know, it's
- 37:03Speaker 1: one of those things where sometimes you can't, you know,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you can't allow yourself to be that pinned out. So I,
- 37:10Speaker 1: you know, started started branching out and started looking in
- 37:12Speaker 1: different areas instead of just hammering home on the same
- 37:15Speaker 1: exact area. You know, if if you have that opportunity. Now,
- 37:19Speaker 1: I didn't know this buck per se, you know, It's
- 37:21Speaker 1: just it was more so like, hey, this is this
- 37:23Speaker 1: is a good buck that I would kill, you know,
- 37:26Speaker 1: not like, hey this is the buck that I want
- 37:27Speaker 1: to kill. So you knew that based stuff of what
- 37:30Speaker 1: off of like big rubs you saw or like in
- 37:32Speaker 1: past years you saw you know, this one, this one
- 37:36Speaker 1: I had a I actually had a trail camera um
- 37:39Speaker 1: out on a on a field edge, UM in a
- 37:41Speaker 1: position to where I like it was a it was
- 37:44Speaker 1: a spot on the field edge that it's it's a
- 37:46Speaker 1: primary scrape every year. You know. It wasn't it obviously
- 37:49Speaker 1: wasn't scraped when I hung in the camera. But I
- 37:51Speaker 1: knew that as soon as that season will start rolling around,
- 37:54Speaker 1: I would have you know, that thing would be starting
- 37:56Speaker 1: to get shredded up. They shred their velvet in this area.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I've seen it, you know years before ars and they
- 38:00Speaker 1: started just raking the seacre tree. It's a it's a big,
- 38:02Speaker 1: overhanging seedar tree on the edge of the crop field.
- 38:04Speaker 1: So I just had that camera out there, knowing that
- 38:07Speaker 1: you know, hey, I'll probably get it, you know, at
- 38:09Speaker 1: least a bit of inventory, you know, come when the
- 38:13Speaker 1: season opens and see if there's anything that that's you know,
- 38:15Speaker 1: we're shooting here. So I ended up getting one picture
- 38:19Speaker 1: of this deer, which immediately gave me some information, even
- 38:23Speaker 1: on that fact that there was only one picture of him.
- 38:25Speaker 1: But there was a picture of him, and it wasn't
- 38:27Speaker 1: the best picture, but I was looking at it, I'm like, okay,
- 38:29Speaker 1: you know that that that deer will probably do. Let me,
- 38:31Speaker 1: let me, let me try and find them, you know.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Then I um, but to that point, that was a
- 38:36Speaker 1: couple of days before season, and I checked that camera,
- 38:38Speaker 1: and then I started to surmising my game plan. Um,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, I started hunting for that deer before I
- 38:46Speaker 1: even knew about this other this this book that I
- 38:48Speaker 1: ended up killing. Um. But as soon as I found
- 38:51Speaker 1: out about that book, you know, then I just or
- 38:54Speaker 1: even before I found out about that book, this deer
- 38:57Speaker 1: was was proven, you know, I mean, he was definitely
- 39:00Speaker 1: had a long he was traveling a long ways, and
- 39:02Speaker 1: I was, I was, you know, trying to get at that,
- 39:05Speaker 1: and then I just decided, Hey, you know, I'm gonna
- 39:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna actually gonna increase my odds here. And I
- 39:10Speaker 1: started looking at other places as well, because you know,
- 39:13Speaker 1: I didn't know, I didn't know where that buck was at,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I didn't know how often he was freaking that area. Um,
- 39:17Speaker 1: I had to dive in right away and started trying
- 39:19Speaker 1: to figure out those things. But at the same time,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I knew I wasn't gonna pin myself down and spend
- 39:25Speaker 1: the entire season right on that spot where I got
- 39:27Speaker 1: the camera picture, just because you know, I am trying
- 39:30Speaker 1: not to take that for um two specific either, just
- 39:34Speaker 1: like a single picture on a camera. So so okay,
- 39:38Speaker 1: so you how many times did you actually hunt in
- 39:42Speaker 1: the area where he ended up killing that buck? Actually
- 39:44Speaker 1: like thinking, okay, I'm gonna try to kill the good
- 39:46Speaker 1: buck that's in this area. How many hunts did it
- 39:48Speaker 1: take till you actually had to happen? So can you
- 39:55Speaker 1: tell me about the first and why? So? So this one,
- 40:00Speaker 1: this one, like I said, this one is a little
- 40:02Speaker 1: bit it's not I wouldn't say, uh, it's a little
- 40:05Speaker 1: bit simpler than some of the other ones, and we
- 40:07Speaker 1: can dive into something like that, like you said that
- 40:09Speaker 1: maybe really rings home on that Nose County. But this
- 40:12Speaker 1: this all comes about of like, okay, you know this
- 40:16Speaker 1: is a this is the home farm. You know when
- 40:19Speaker 1: I do you know, I just know from years that
- 40:21Speaker 1: like okay, when when signs popping up here and you know,
- 40:25Speaker 1: a deer's you know, I might see it deer feeding
- 40:27Speaker 1: in in this area, I immediately start to you know,
- 40:30Speaker 1: ring in my head. Okay, well I think he's you know,
- 40:32Speaker 1: I make those. It's not like being on a new
- 40:35Speaker 1: property and and thinking and having to really go, uh look,
- 40:39Speaker 1: so this was just a simple, um, you know, scouting
- 40:42Speaker 1: session where you know, I mean I noticed an ice trail,
- 40:46Speaker 1: some big tracks I you know, paired debt with you know,
- 40:49Speaker 1: seeing a buck out in the field. Um, and I
- 40:52Speaker 1: kind of, you know, immediately it was just like, okay, well,
- 40:55Speaker 1: I think he's he's either betting, you know, on the
- 40:57Speaker 1: backside of this ridge or the one over. So it
- 40:59Speaker 1: was like slip up there, check it out. You know.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I seemed a good sign on that ridge. I've seen
- 41:04Speaker 1: what I you know what I anticipated that nears track
- 41:06Speaker 1: was because I went out in the field, you know,
- 41:07Speaker 1: looked at it. Um, there were some there were some
- 41:10Speaker 1: light rubs popping up, you know, coming in from the
- 41:13Speaker 1: corner of this wood lot that I figured he was
- 41:15Speaker 1: probably you know, scraping on as he was coming in
- 41:17Speaker 1: and out from his from his betting areas. So I
- 41:19Speaker 1: just I slipped up on a ridge that, um, you
- 41:22Speaker 1: know I've hunted in the past, Um, that I knew
- 41:25Speaker 1: would be the perfect ambush point if he was coming
- 41:27Speaker 1: in with the wind I had, you know, I mean
- 41:29Speaker 1: to to bet in that corner. And I knew in
- 41:32Speaker 1: my head that, well, ship, if he's not, if this
- 41:34Speaker 1: is another book and this is not him, and I
- 41:35Speaker 1: don't kill him this morning, I'll kill him the mile,
- 41:38Speaker 1: because I'll go on the next ridge over. And I was,
- 41:40Speaker 1: you know, I was just sure in my head that
- 41:43Speaker 1: he had to be better in one of those spots.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And then if I didn't, if I didn't run into
- 41:46Speaker 1: him on that other ridge, well then I had really
- 41:48Speaker 1: just started to dissect it and and kind of you know,
- 41:51Speaker 1: looking between and see what I was missing, and but
- 41:54Speaker 1: end up happening on the first one on the first time,
- 41:56Speaker 1: so it was actually the second sit um. But with
- 42:00Speaker 1: that being said, you know, I've been I've had properties
- 42:03Speaker 1: that have you know, never been on and it's like, okay,
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know or haven't been in two to three years,
- 42:10Speaker 1: and it's just day one. You get in there, Okay,
- 42:13Speaker 1: you've got no no previous information, nothing, and you gotta
- 42:18Speaker 1: just figure it out. You gotta you gotta go look
- 42:21Speaker 1: for something you know and and then you you know,
- 42:24Speaker 1: you move from there. But this one, uh, you know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: I feel like the more you hunt, the more you
- 42:29Speaker 1: hunt certain farms. Uh. You definitely kind of not only
- 42:35Speaker 1: just in general, but you should. You should have an
- 42:39Speaker 1: idea of where you're you know, where your dear typically
- 42:42Speaker 1: better where you um what previous history coming back to
- 42:47Speaker 1: help you for sure? Um, you mentioned the fact that
- 42:50Speaker 1: you looked at those tracks. How big I don't know
- 42:52Speaker 1: if you actually ever measure or put your hands up
- 42:54Speaker 1: to or anything like that, but how big of a
- 42:56Speaker 1: track do you need to see to like interest to
- 42:59Speaker 1: you to say, oh, yeah, that's that's a big mature buck.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know I've seen it. It. Uh, it's
- 43:06Speaker 1: weird because you know, tracks don't lie. You're gonna have
- 43:09Speaker 1: a you know, I've hunted. I've killed good deer on
- 43:12Speaker 1: just a single track, on a single trail and really
- 43:14Speaker 1: thick stuff and shot him at five yards just sitting
- 43:17Speaker 1: on that track, like, well, what the hell was it?
- 43:19Speaker 1: This is a big deer. I mean, if it's a
- 43:21Speaker 1: you know, if it's a deer, I don't want to
- 43:23Speaker 1: shoot well whatever, but it's a big track. Um, so
- 43:26Speaker 1: I do like the track thing. Um a four finger track,
- 43:29Speaker 1: I think is is a is a tank. Um, there's
- 43:33Speaker 1: there's definitely um, you know deer that I've shot that
- 43:38Speaker 1: are some of my biggest deer over one seventy that
- 43:40Speaker 1: didn't have a big track though, you know. So I
- 43:42Speaker 1: mean they're just they're just a younger deer. So you
- 43:45Speaker 1: can't but you can't go wrong with with with hunting
- 43:47Speaker 1: big tracks if you got if you got big tracks,
- 43:50Speaker 1: you got big gear, you got old deer. So I
- 43:52Speaker 1: mean it's not nothing wrong. Just here had a pretty
- 43:54Speaker 1: good track. I didn't measure it, you know, I just
- 43:56Speaker 1: I see it. I'm like, okay, that's a good box.
- 43:57Speaker 1: You know it was you know, it was national, um
- 44:00Speaker 1: nice and wet. You know. I was thinking real deep
- 44:02Speaker 1: into them love. Um it was good side, good size,
- 44:05Speaker 1: you know, displayed quite a bit and um, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and that leaves me even the rubs I phone. You know,
- 44:10Speaker 1: it's not like I phone. You know, trees of this
- 44:13Speaker 1: bucks that were you know, twenty inches wide that were
- 44:16Speaker 1: just shredded the ship. I mean these are little, um
- 44:19Speaker 1: it's a little sapling type trees. Um that I think
- 44:22Speaker 1: it was just casual you know, um, you know, regulars
- 44:25Speaker 1: bass and stuff like that. So I mean I've hunted, uh,
- 44:30Speaker 1: I found areas and and see you the thinks that
- 44:32Speaker 1: were just shredded. I mean you'd think the trees and
- 44:34Speaker 1: there were freaking huge and then high and all that stuff.
- 44:38Speaker 1: And you know, some you know, you gotta figure it out.
- 44:41Speaker 1: You know. I've had you know, a hundred thirty five
- 44:45Speaker 1: deer and walking like, oh man, you know, you're you're
- 44:47Speaker 1: thinking this thing's gotta be hulock like the way this
- 44:50Speaker 1: place looks. So I mean a lot of that could
- 44:52Speaker 1: be deceiving, but that's where you got to stay on it.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And um, I mean when I seen that tra I
- 44:57Speaker 1: knew I knew a d percent you know, just we're
- 45:00Speaker 1: he was in the field where the track was, you know,
- 45:02Speaker 1: where your typically bed, where I thought he'd be bet
- 45:04Speaker 1: and it was just you know, it was all there. Um.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I feel like that is the secret sauce kind of
- 45:11Speaker 1: that a lot of people struggle with. Is you know
- 45:15Speaker 1: that maybe they figured out, Okay, I need to be mobile,
- 45:17Speaker 1: I need to move in, try to find this hot
- 45:19Speaker 1: sign or whatever that's gonna help me know where to
- 45:21Speaker 1: hunt right now. UM. But actually saying that is a
- 45:24Speaker 1: lot easier than doing it, like knowing this sign that's
- 45:27Speaker 1: worth setting up on. UM. So I'm kind of curious
- 45:30Speaker 1: you alluded to some other examples of past years where
- 45:33Speaker 1: you have kind of done this from the get go,
- 45:35Speaker 1: started out early season and worked your way into one. Um.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Is there another example you could walk us through where
- 45:41Speaker 1: you did that? Um? I'm kind of particularly interested in,
- 45:44Speaker 1: like what specific sign led you to do X, which
- 45:47Speaker 1: led you to do why which led you to kill
- 45:49Speaker 1: that deer? Um? I know you killed an opening day
- 45:52Speaker 1: booner back in two thousand and fifteen. Is that a
- 45:54Speaker 1: good example of that? Um? Yeah, I mean that's a
- 45:58Speaker 1: pretty that was that was a place that I hadn't
- 46:01Speaker 1: um hunted in a couple of years. UM, And I
- 46:04Speaker 1: was actually, uh, I was on the road, and um,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I think it was it was Kansas, and I was
- 46:11Speaker 1: talking in Kansas, and I was just and I had
- 46:13Speaker 1: never hunted in cancer before, so I was just you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: turning and burning, you know, hunting as much find out
- 46:18Speaker 1: as much afore as I could happen and all that stuff.
- 46:20Speaker 1: It was real early, it was real hot. Um, there's
- 46:23Speaker 1: a lot less sign out there. It was just it
- 46:25Speaker 1: was different. It was a whole different ball again when
- 46:27Speaker 1: I was used to like thicker more, you know, stuff
- 46:30Speaker 1: like that, and I and you know, so opening day
- 46:33Speaker 1: I came, you know, so I had already been you
- 46:36Speaker 1: know kind of you know in that in that mindset,
- 46:39Speaker 1: and then opening day came and I uh literally just
- 46:43Speaker 1: went and walked the property. You know, I got the
- 46:45Speaker 1: I got the wind of my nose and I just
- 46:46Speaker 1: started looking for looking for good sign. So I started,
- 46:49Speaker 1: uh you know walking. Um. I actually had to hook
- 46:53Speaker 1: her on the back side of the property just so
- 46:54Speaker 1: I could you know, have an idea. Um. And I
- 46:57Speaker 1: walked through the whole the whole west end of the property. UM.
- 47:01Speaker 1: And my goal right when I got there was two Okay,
- 47:04Speaker 1: you know I'm gonna I'm gonna go set up a
- 47:07Speaker 1: spot that I think I can kill one in the morning,
- 47:09Speaker 1: and I'm going to then you know, go hop up
- 47:13Speaker 1: hopping a spot for the evening, just to just to
- 47:15Speaker 1: see what's going on. So UM, I ended up, you know,
- 47:18Speaker 1: coming up, coming up a crick and um, you know,
- 47:22Speaker 1: finding a a little rub line, you know, go out
- 47:26Speaker 1: the side of the hill. You know, definitely you know,
- 47:28Speaker 1: was was picking some interest, but UM, I went more
- 47:32Speaker 1: so UM I was trying to I was more so
- 47:37Speaker 1: trying to find where I was really trying to kick
- 47:41Speaker 1: very here honestly what I was trying to do. Um,
- 47:43Speaker 1: And this was normally I think I I think I
- 47:46Speaker 1: had about four days. So if I typically would have
- 47:50Speaker 1: went there and I was there for as long as
- 47:52Speaker 1: it takes there, if I had a couple of weeks,
- 47:54Speaker 1: I don't think I would have been this. I would
- 47:56Speaker 1: have probably started off and a more of a you know,
- 48:00Speaker 1: outside the timber approach. But um, it was one of
- 48:03Speaker 1: those things that I didn't have a lot of time,
- 48:04Speaker 1: and I knew I only had a few days, so
- 48:06Speaker 1: I went with the soul intent you know in my
- 48:08Speaker 1: mind to check out a book. So you know, I
- 48:11Speaker 1: got the UM, I got to win like I said it,
- 48:15Speaker 1: uh you know, in my fever, and started scouting these
- 48:18Speaker 1: these uh these ridges and uh now there's a really
- 48:22Speaker 1: stick on the map and I've killed deer around it
- 48:26Speaker 1: in the past. So it was one of those things where,
- 48:27Speaker 1: you know, I didn't know that some stuff was going
- 48:29Speaker 1: on here, but I literally ended up able to um
- 48:33Speaker 1: sneak up on this buck and I seen him betted.
- 48:37Speaker 1: You know, I could see a rack in the you know,
- 48:39Speaker 1: he was really sick brier patch. You know, I'm talking
- 48:42Speaker 1: like just supernarly, and I've seen him and I'm thinking, okay,
- 48:46Speaker 1: all right, well, you know, immediately in my mind, I'm
- 48:48Speaker 1: thinking this books dead. So I then purposely, like kind
- 48:55Speaker 1: of was even loud about it. I I sort of
- 48:58Speaker 1: jog toward him, like just just know, got a sort
- 49:00Speaker 1: a jog toward him. Not I didn't sneak up on him.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I just you know, I wanted him to know I
- 49:05Speaker 1: was there on his own accord and get away safely.
- 49:07Speaker 1: So I just I kind of just you know, dragging
- 49:10Speaker 1: his direction. Got let me get out of there. I
- 49:12Speaker 1: looked around. I found a couple of beds in the
- 49:15Speaker 1: spot that he was betted, you know, and I did
- 49:17Speaker 1: not think deeper into it. I literally set a stand.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I pulled up my phone. I've seen what the wind
- 49:21Speaker 1: was going to be the next day, um, and I said, okay,
- 49:25Speaker 1: you know it's gonna be a north wind. So I
- 49:27Speaker 1: looked at that area where he was at. You know,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I found some I found some tracks around there. I've
- 49:31Speaker 1: seen kind of some trails that were coming into that.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I surmised where I thought he was coming from. And
- 49:35Speaker 1: I set a stand up four north wind, and I
- 49:39Speaker 1: literally walked out of there. In my mind, okay, well
- 49:41Speaker 1: that he is dead tomorrow, let me see if I
- 49:43Speaker 1: can find a better one. So I went down, walked
- 49:46Speaker 1: across the entire other side of the property. UM. I
- 49:50Speaker 1: went to my truck, grabbed another tree stand, and then
- 49:53Speaker 1: I went out and I actually hung a stand on
- 49:56Speaker 1: the south end of the farm, completely opposite end. I
- 49:59Speaker 1: didn't want to mess with anything that Buck I thought
- 50:01Speaker 1: was gonna be doing tonight. I said, okay, he's gonna
- 50:03Speaker 1: probably go about whatever he's doing in the evening, which
- 50:05Speaker 1: I don't know what the hell he's doing in the evening,
- 50:07Speaker 1: but I want to be away from him. So I
- 50:08Speaker 1: was like, let me go see, let me check the
- 50:10Speaker 1: other side of this property and see what I can't
- 50:12Speaker 1: get into it. So, um, I found a little good
- 50:15Speaker 1: trail through some six CRP betting, and I hung up
- 50:18Speaker 1: in a sapling like four ft high and literally and
- 50:21Speaker 1: I actually passed up a hundred that night. First sit
- 50:25Speaker 1: of just getting out there, walking, getting out a good trail.
- 50:27Speaker 1: It was as simple as that good trail, beating the CRP,
- 50:31Speaker 1: good tracking it all right, Well this this seems as
- 50:33Speaker 1: good as play as any. I'm gonna feel my tech
- 50:34Speaker 1: in my morning anyway. So you know that was kind
- 50:36Speaker 1: of the thought I had in my mind. Hunted there. Um.
- 50:40Speaker 1: You know that one night UM backed out next morning,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you know, I came in from the opposite direction due
- 50:47Speaker 1: to what the win was doing. I just wanted to
- 50:49Speaker 1: have a little bit of a better own access from
- 50:51Speaker 1: where I've seen that trail where he was coming through.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I didn't want to bump him if he was still
- 50:55Speaker 1: on his way there. I got to put in that
- 50:56Speaker 1: stand and killed in my seven ten at ten yards.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I literally was, you know, ten yards down wind of
- 51:03Speaker 1: the bed that I just kicked him up out of.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I don't know if he was going to bed in
- 51:06Speaker 1: that same spot or he might have betted, you know
- 51:08Speaker 1: a little bit down or it was a giant thicket
- 51:10Speaker 1: in there, and there were kids everywhere. But I knew that,
- 51:13Speaker 1: you know, I just called myself, well if I manipulate
- 51:16Speaker 1: you know this area is because as I can, you know,
- 51:19Speaker 1: I I'm gonna kill him so and he died. So
- 51:22Speaker 1: it's just kind of one of those uh um, those
- 51:27Speaker 1: those situations of constantly moving, you know, even even the
- 51:32Speaker 1: fact of like I remember talking to Buddy mine He's like,
- 51:34Speaker 1: why don't you just jump? And I know, my old man,
- 51:37Speaker 1: you should do this a lot like he would have
- 51:38Speaker 1: jumped right in that stand when he said it, and
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know, just in case that buck with came back, um,
- 51:45Speaker 1: and he would have killed him at evening, you know,
- 51:47Speaker 1: if he would have came back, I personally, I like, uh,
- 51:50Speaker 1: I've had more luck, you know. Um, depending on the
- 51:54Speaker 1: temperament of the deer. Like if you bump a deer
- 51:57Speaker 1: off his um, his uh his bed and and sometimes
- 52:01Speaker 1: you see him and they'll they'll almost like scamper off
- 52:04Speaker 1: maybe like fifty yards and stop and look back. That
- 52:07Speaker 1: might be a deer You want to be in that
- 52:09Speaker 1: stand right away. I mean, if you know he you
- 52:12Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, like he might or I think
- 52:14Speaker 1: he might have a little bit more of a easy
- 52:17Speaker 1: temperament and be more prone to coming right back and
- 52:22Speaker 1: you know, you might kill him. He might come back
- 52:23Speaker 1: to bed right in that spot when he when he
- 52:25Speaker 1: thinks you's gone. Um, if the deer completely leaves, I'll
- 52:28Speaker 1: usually give it, you know, I'll let him sort of.
- 52:32Speaker 1: I think there's almost like a like, uh I call
- 52:37Speaker 1: it like a beat pattern, you know, like a deer
- 52:40Speaker 1: might have a pattern, and a beat pattern. You know
- 52:43Speaker 1: if he if he runs into danger, he might resort
- 52:45Speaker 1: to a bat pattern. And then you know, when he
- 52:47Speaker 1: feels like it's all legit and copsthetic, he might circle
- 52:50Speaker 1: back to his normal activities. So I in my head,
- 52:54Speaker 1: I'm categories and you know, this deer, I mean, this
- 52:56Speaker 1: deer took off. He was gone, I mean, you know,
- 52:58Speaker 1: like a bat out of hell. He's in me and ran,
- 53:02Speaker 1: you know. So um, I'm thinking, Okay, well I'm gonna
- 53:05Speaker 1: let him. He's probably in the bed, bet up somewhere else,
- 53:08Speaker 1: you know, God knows where, maybe go about a different
- 53:11Speaker 1: evening pattern. But I think he'll probably cycle back through
- 53:14Speaker 1: and and come back here. So I gave that one
- 53:16Speaker 1: an extra day and it proved h it proved to
- 53:20Speaker 1: be the right choice. Man. So this is the infamous
- 53:23Speaker 1: bump and dump strategy that um, that I've heard a
- 53:26Speaker 1: number of people talk about, but in particular your dad. UM,
- 53:29Speaker 1: I think has kind of gained a little notoriety around that. UM.
- 53:32Speaker 1: I feel like the kind of the crux of pulling
- 53:36Speaker 1: that off seems to be setting up properly for that
- 53:41Speaker 1: hunt that next Like, how do you actually set up
- 53:43Speaker 1: on the bed. So I'm kind of curious what's going
- 53:46Speaker 1: through your mind when you you bump a deer, you
- 53:49Speaker 1: know it's a buck you want to shoot, when you
- 53:51Speaker 1: make that decision of which tree to set up for.
- 53:54Speaker 1: I know you mentioned in this case he looked at
- 53:56Speaker 1: the wind direction. UM, but can you pride any more
- 53:58Speaker 1: detail as far as you did you try to set
- 54:00Speaker 1: up within range of the trail or a specific bed,
- 54:03Speaker 1: or did you think about how the buck might approach
- 54:05Speaker 1: when he came back the next morning or anything like that.
- 54:08Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that UM. You know, you know
- 54:11Speaker 1: you mentioned the bumping dump, and that's something that you know,
- 54:14Speaker 1: I the old Man coined and I think people years
- 54:17Speaker 1: ago I thought that was like, you know, something completely crazy,
- 54:21Speaker 1: and um, you know that goes along to where some
- 54:24Speaker 1: guys like to be in there right away. Um, some
- 54:27Speaker 1: guys you know, wait, I've I took what he always
- 54:30Speaker 1: did and I you know, not followed it verbatim. But okay,
- 54:35Speaker 1: I sort of found on the way and started killing
- 54:37Speaker 1: deer where I you know, it almost weren't better for
- 54:39Speaker 1: me the other the other way. So with that being said,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I didn't start really killing deer with this said for
- 54:47Speaker 1: for a while. I mean I I screwed up a
- 54:49Speaker 1: more big deer, try and to pull this off. Then,
- 54:53Speaker 1: you know, it took a while. And to that point,
- 54:55Speaker 1: like you said, you have to where a lot of
- 54:58Speaker 1: guys mess up, and I hear it a lot is
- 55:00Speaker 1: they'll find these spots, they'll find the deer, they'll kick
- 55:03Speaker 1: them off, They'll they'll be in a perfect situation to
- 55:05Speaker 1: kind of bring the whole thing home, and they'll they
- 55:08Speaker 1: just won't. They won't manipulate the spot. Right. So what
- 55:12Speaker 1: I think that comes down to mostly is is really
- 55:17Speaker 1: pay attention, look around, don't get um. I think I
- 55:22Speaker 1: think the biggest thing is, you know a lot of
- 55:24Speaker 1: guys don't really concept the wind direction um, or they
- 55:28Speaker 1: think maybe like, well, if I put my centlock soon on,
- 55:30Speaker 1: I I should be able to get on, get anywhere
- 55:33Speaker 1: in here and kill this deer. And that's it's, you know,
- 55:36Speaker 1: probably not the best best attitude to have. Um. Every
- 55:41Speaker 1: time is different, but you have to take I think
- 55:46Speaker 1: you have to take everything in account. So, UM, if
- 55:48Speaker 1: there's one thing my old man told me back in
- 55:51Speaker 1: the day, um that I sort of remembered, uh, and
- 55:56Speaker 1: then I've definitely adopted in setting up tree stands in
- 56:02Speaker 1: any situation is like, um, you know, don't I don't
- 56:07Speaker 1: know what exactly said, but in the lines that don't
- 56:09Speaker 1: be greedy like so, you know, so I tell people
- 56:13Speaker 1: a lot this you know nowadays that I talked to
- 56:15Speaker 1: like you know, something that I you know, learned from
- 56:17Speaker 1: him back in the day. But you're never gonna get everything.
- 56:20Speaker 1: So so many guys and especially guys like us like
- 56:23Speaker 1: we're we don't kill there at fifty yards like we
- 56:26Speaker 1: we can't or I mean I can't speak for that.
- 56:28Speaker 1: I can't kill there at fifty yards. My you know,
- 56:31Speaker 1: I like them close. I like a super close shot.
- 56:34Speaker 1: You know. I don't want to worry about having a
- 56:36Speaker 1: because I don't shoot that much, probably, but but I
- 56:38Speaker 1: just so back to what you you know, it's you're
- 56:42Speaker 1: never gonna get at all. So so many guys go
- 56:44Speaker 1: in there and they start looking like, okay, there's bed
- 56:46Speaker 1: right here, there's a rub there, there's a trailer there,
- 56:48Speaker 1: there's you know, um, you know just over here this
- 56:51Speaker 1: and they start like trying to they start trying to
- 56:54Speaker 1: become infatuated with covering uh, you know, a football field
- 56:59Speaker 1: size area when like, realistically, if you just if you
- 57:03Speaker 1: if you prioritize and you think, you think about it,
- 57:06Speaker 1: you know, so win direction is number one. You know,
- 57:09Speaker 1: you can't let's say, let's say you got his trail right,
- 57:12Speaker 1: you gotta you gotta beat trail coming into that to
- 57:14Speaker 1: that his bed or or this little betting area right. Um,
- 57:19Speaker 1: and you know in your body that okay, you know
- 57:24Speaker 1: your mind or whatever your mind, your body, what you're
- 57:26Speaker 1: thinking about it. You're like, this deer is coming up
- 57:28Speaker 1: this ridge on this trail. The you know, the sign
- 57:32Speaker 1: tells me this, and he's betting in this, um, he's
- 57:35Speaker 1: bedding in this you know this bed right here, and
- 57:37Speaker 1: you got it all figured out. But if you if
- 57:40Speaker 1: you don't have a wind hunt that trail, well, you're
- 57:43Speaker 1: you know, you can't hunt it. So so many guys
- 57:46Speaker 1: like I said, well no, I think i'm and then
- 57:48Speaker 1: they try and they try and tell themselves why I
- 57:51Speaker 1: think I'll get away with it. I'll bring my those
- 57:53Speaker 1: eyes in here or else. That's where guys start messing up,
- 57:56Speaker 1: like so, first and foremost, I look at the wind.
- 57:59Speaker 1: If I you know, even if that near was two
- 58:02Speaker 1: right right, I bumped them out of there, and I
- 58:05Speaker 1: looked at the wind. The next morning they would have
- 58:06Speaker 1: been at east wind. I wouldn't hunt it because I
- 58:08Speaker 1: couldn't have. There was that spot. There was just it
- 58:11Speaker 1: wasn't plausible. I just so happened to be having a
- 58:13Speaker 1: good wind of what was going on. So I think,
- 58:17Speaker 1: and I used to try and do that. I used
- 58:18Speaker 1: to try and fight it and force it and think like, okay,
- 58:21Speaker 1: well yeah, I know he's on this, you know. But
- 58:24Speaker 1: to that point, you know, so first and foremon as
- 58:27Speaker 1: a wind, you know, I mean, you gotta get a
- 58:29Speaker 1: wind that's gonna um let you hunt that area. I think,
- 58:33Speaker 1: all I know, um, you know, Then I started looking
- 58:36Speaker 1: at like, okay, would'd rather shoot a bedlar rather sho trail.
- 58:38Speaker 1: What I'd rather shoot. I'd rather shoot them all. But
- 58:41Speaker 1: I let the wind dictate what I can cover and
- 58:45Speaker 1: where I where I understand um in that area, that's
- 58:48Speaker 1: that's that's it. Yeah. So one of the questions I
- 58:53Speaker 1: have then, regarding the wind you hunted on is if
- 58:56Speaker 1: hear some people talk about how they tend to see
- 58:58Speaker 1: mature bucks coming to their beds. I've heard people talk
- 59:01Speaker 1: about like a j hook where they might circle in
- 59:04Speaker 1: and come down wind of the bed that they want
- 59:06Speaker 1: to get to and check it before walking into it.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Have you seen anything like that or do you think
- 59:10Speaker 1: about anything different as far as how you anticipate a
- 59:13Speaker 1: buck moving in. I've seen that, Um, but I don't.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I don't even think about that like I I have
- 59:22Speaker 1: you know, you know, I always keep that knowledge in
- 59:26Speaker 1: my head about like okay, well, dear, typically do this
- 59:28Speaker 1: or you know there are big bucks in the past
- 59:30Speaker 1: have done this, or you know, um, but I very
- 59:35Speaker 1: rarely try and some all bucks up into into um
- 59:39Speaker 1: into like a you know, all the same thing. Um
- 59:43Speaker 1: this dear trying to think of how that exactly exactly
- 59:46Speaker 1: laid out? Um. I knew that the only place that
- 59:52Speaker 1: I could shoot this year with the north wind was um,
- 59:57Speaker 1: it was actually I think I was probably twenty yards
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: from where he was vetted, um, you know, ten yards
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: from the trail, and there was a lot of other
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: sign that was that was farther over. Like you know,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I could see he was. He was, you know, browsing around,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: rubbing some stuff up and like he was doing a
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: lot of stuff in that area. But I knew that's
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: the only ride could beat. So you know, to that point,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: if he would have came in in in jay Hook.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: But if he would have came and you know, um,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: you know with the wind in the wrong direction, you know,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: like the like the popular or whatever that may have been,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: it didn't matter because that was the only place I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: could beat. So that's not gonna you know, affect um,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: you know, be being in there now. I also looked though,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: and I'm I mean, I pretty much I dial it
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: down to where Okay, like you know this, I've seen
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: the trail, you know, I've seen his tracks on the
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: trail coming up that ridge, So I knew he was
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: looking around that ridge regardless, you know. So it was
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: just one of those things that um, you know, in
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: that scenario, I I took that. I took all I
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: to get, you know, that was it? Yeah, I love
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: that point you make about the fact that you can't
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: be greedy, like you can't have it all. I I
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: definitely used to fall into that same trap where I
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: was thinking, I need to cover this and this and
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: this and or or I do the what IF's game,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: so I would like to think about where to hunt,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: and I think, well, he might do this, so I
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: should be trying to take advantage of that. But what
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: if he did this, Well, then I may want to
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: move my trees to inten yards further this way, because
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: then I can maybe cover that lane. And then maybe
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: if you hit this scrape and then you have like
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: six different what if scenarios and you try to maybe
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: set up for all of them. But then what inevitably happens,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: at least from my experience, is that if you try
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: to set up for six what if scenarios, that so
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: you maybe have a decent chance at each different scenario,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: You're not set up perfectly for any one of those.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: So it's it's kind of a shitty situation if he
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: does any one of them. But what I've started to
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: do more and more and I'm curious to hear if
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: you think this is if this makes sense or not.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: But I've kind of started to do this. I'm I'm
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: in my head. I'm kind of calling it like my
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: truth and assumption, like a methodology or something. I'm I'm
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: coining this thing in my own head as I'm saying it.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: But but I look at the situation and I say, Okay,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: what do I think this buck's gonna do? Like, what
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: do I think is the most likely thing is gonna do?
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And so let's say I think the most likely thing
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: is that he's betted in Spot A and he's gonna
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: walk from Spot A down this trail to feed in
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Spot B. If I had if you put a gun
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: in my head, that would be my number one guest,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: based off of the sign, or based off of past experience,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: or based off trail cameras, whatever dad I have. And
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: so instead of looking at that as one of like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: six possibilities and trying to set up for all six,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I'm now saying, Okay, I'm going to assume that my
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: number one guess. I'm gonna assume that's truth, like that
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: is what's going to happen. And then I make all
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: my decisions, assuming that's a truth. So I'm going to
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: set up perfectly for that one thing. I'm gonna access
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: perfectly for that one assumption. I'm going to you know,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: everything is going to be for that one scenario. And
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I'm kind of fine. That's working better because most of
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the time you're gonna get it wrong anyways. But if
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: you set up perfectly for one scenario, every once in
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: a while that scenario does happen, and then you end
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: up having the perfect situation to get a shot, versus
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: you know, never ending up getting the perfect situation because
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: you're always setting up for six What ifs um? Does
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: that make sense at all? No? Yeah, I understand um.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: And And it's it's sort of like, you know, I
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: kind of have the same philosophy and stuff, like for
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: how my my standard set up, Like if you know,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: I might be covering you know, a trail and US
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: grape or whatever. But and there there's the opportunity to
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: get more. But I have to like set my stand
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: just a little farther over and I know, I, okay,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: well that that shot will be a standing shot. This
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: want to I don't even do it because like I
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: killed the majority of my dear with I always put
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I'm sort of a definitely a I wouldn't say O
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: C D per se, but like there's a there's a
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: thing though, there's a there's a way I like to
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: do things. And it's always the same. And the majority
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: of time when I kill a deer, I'm I'm sitting
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: down and I know exactly where he's gonna be, so
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I'll I'll cut out a lot of access stuff that
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I could cover just to have my stand at perfect
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: direction towards there's minimal movement, and I'm ready to kill
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: like like in that position, Like I love shooting sitting
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: down and all my stands, you know, I take that account.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: So I I start to like you said, you know,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: you got your you know your a route or whatever
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: whatever you're saying it is. But that's what I'm picking.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: That's what I'm setting up on them. You know if
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: it if I hunt her, you know, you know on
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: my winds, good he does something else, well I'll kill
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: him the next day. I'll move on to the next day.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: You know. It's it's I'm ready rocked in that scenario.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: You know, there's it's just one of those things where okay,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: but if that if that deer comes in, he doesn't
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: think he's gonna do It's not like one of those
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: deals were like, oh, well, you could coming behind me,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden you don't realize it
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: and then he's behind you a fifteen yards and there's
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: no way you can stand up turn around. Like I
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: never I never want to have that happen, Like that's
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: the worst um, that's the worst feeling in the world.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Or even just never want to get handcuffed. Now I've
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: been handcuffed in the past, and that one, No, it's
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: not happening anymore. Like it's just I'd rather miss one,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: and I have missed a lot. I'd rather miss one,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: you know, just clean, you know, and and being right
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: on the money. Then something something stupid like that where
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: you can't even get a shot, you know, and you
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: never even knew you know, he could be dead, but
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you didn't. You didn't you tried to, You tried to
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: be a hog and tried to cover too much area,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: you ain't set up right, and you didn't think it out,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: you know. I think it's very important for these guys
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: even too, like when they're setting up stands or anybody.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Think it out man, like, think okay, think about your
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: thought about this, Think about where I hear is gonna
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: come from. Think about what shot you're gonna take when
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: you're gonna draw about like a lot of that. You know,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: there's there's all this scouting process and finding spots and
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: and setting up stands, you know, and then there's even
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: more to it. It's like, you know, some people do
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: all that and they do it great and then all
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: of a sudden they just crumble when the beer shows up.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: So I think, you know, having it in your mind,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: no one, what's going to happen, no one, you're gonna kill,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: no one when you're gonna kill, like all that really
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: makes a big difference. Yeah. Yeah, those little details they matter,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah for sure. So speaking a little details, um,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: drilling in just a little bit more on this specific
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: kind of bumping dump type scenario. When you get in there,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you've figured out based off the wind and a little
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: bit of the area you can see, you figure out
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: the right tree set up, and um, do you worry
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: about doing any kind of trimming once you get up
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: to the tree or or anything like that, or do
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: you say, okay, I'm just gonna hang the stand right
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: here now and not touch another thing because I don't
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: want to leave my scent anywhere or mess with that anymore.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: What's your balance? So just goes staying before I got
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: my shirtain way that I do it. So I'm gonna
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: pick that tree where I can get in my position
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: and I can be ready to rock, you know in
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: that seated shot you know across the left shoulder like
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: it's it's that's just what you know, or my my shoulder.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: It's just that's the way I do it. So if
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I gotta trend, if I gotta freaking cut down a um,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: if I gotta cut down the tree slized my leg
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: to make that happen, I'll do it like if if
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: if obviously, if I can, if I'm not, if I'm
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: a you know, a piece store, um, just because I
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: know I'm gonna be there waiting and I don't carebably
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I'll senter that freaking area up crazy as long and
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I'm so bad. If I know I can't get in there,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: well then i'll keep I'll get out and I won't
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I won't toun with it. But your first shot by shot,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: and you know, odds are by the time they realize,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: oh ship, you know something. You know this this is
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: not the same place. You know, unless you know how
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: they are. You can have dad if you do it right. So,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: so taking this tree stand setting up question a little
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: bit further than can you just walk us through in general,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: how you actually go about setting up your mobile stand,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: whether it be uh, you know, whether it's a bumping
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: dump or just a regular hunt you're sneaking in to
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: set up your standing hunting that day. Um, like the
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: exact specific scenario, like you set your backpack on the ground,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: you hook up a row, Like what exactly do you
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: do from the moment you pick your tree to the time?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Year up in it? Okay, so this is, um, yes,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: this is how I go about it. Now I'm gonna
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: go through it. How um, I'm gonna use like even
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: our new setup which makes this this this completely and
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: a game changer, completely different story now with how this works. So, um,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: you know, typically I have I have my stand in
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: my backs um sticks understand, packs it up, you know,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: strapped to that bone hand. You know, I always always
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: pretty much have my bone hand. So, UM, what I
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: will do when I find that spot? I will you know,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: take the stand off my back, and you know, with
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the intention of that being the only time that stand
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: cooped up my back is the first time take the
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: stand off my back and taken the bag, put it
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: on the ground, and I hook my co rope up
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: to my bag and my bowl, so my bag in
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: my bowl are sitting on the ground. You know. I
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: take the sticks off my stand and I put the
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: stand back in my back. So now I got my
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: stand on my back, UM bowl and the UM bags
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: looked up at my tie rope. So then I just
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I start. I started at the tree. You know, I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: usually put about UM depending on how I need to
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: get I might start out with a couple of screwings
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: or whatever, or just my sticks. But I put the
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: first one to two sticks on the tree when I'm
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: on the ground, you know, one at at that stepping
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: level and one as high as I can reach. UM.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And then I have the the last two sticks UM
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: or three or four you know on my stand, so
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I can reach right back and grab him as I'm
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: going up. So UM, I just my my goal is
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: to get up in one shot. UM. I don't want
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: to come back, and you know, don't now if if
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: I'm setting up something I'm not gonna hunt for you know,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: a couple of days, I won't even or I'm not
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: going out until later. I won't even drop my door,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: or I'll just leave it there. You know. I'm not
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I'm too worried about getting up there in one shot.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: But I'm going on like a hanging hunt. I definitely
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: want to get up there once. I don't want to
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: be sweating. I don't want to you know, have any
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: you don't have it be uh um, you know, kind
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of more difficult than it needs to be. So um.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: You know, go up with the sticks hanging to stand down,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: you know, then I get my stand said it, and
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: then then I can pull on me here, you know.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: So it's it's that one, that one one shut up cover.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I mean, I'll definitely look for cover over anything. I
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: don't hunt high. Um. I'd say ninety percent of the
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: times I'm I'm between eight and fifty feet um, you know,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and more so even I said, if I had to
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: pick a height that I was at, like if I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: had to pick one, height would probably be you know,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: majority of the time maybe ten ft twelve feet, you know,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: if I'm in the bottom and I need to, you know,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: get away with some some you know, the thermals or whatnot.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Or if it's something that I need to get real high,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: I'll get I'll get as high as I need to.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: I'll get twenty sometimes. But UM, I would rather be
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: low and high any day. So is that for Is
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: that simply because it allows you to get up faster
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: and with fewer sticks, or is that because you know,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: you just don't want to be high, or is it
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: because the better shot angles or you know, why are
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: you doing that? I think it's everything. So I like,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: less equipment on my back at all times is definitely
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: a plus. Get up quickly. Um, there's tends to be
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: more cover down low. Um, you know shot angles. You know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: nothing's cutter than a you know, ten yard shot, and
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: you're just a couple of feet higher and deer. I
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: mean it's sometimes you get real high and you throw
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: some creased angles and it's and it's a pain. Um.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: But I truly believe that there's a there's a there's
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: a spot in there. Um sounds weird, you you might
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: think it's um kind of the opposite, but I feel
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: like there's a spot in there where you're not like
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: eye level, you're not opposite street, and it's almost like
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: this little money zone that I feel. It's like it's
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: like a miss. Now, don't get me wrong, when you
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: hunt is high, you have to be you gonta have
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: your wits about you. You gotta be s healthy. You
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: can't be swinging your for head left and right. You
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: can't be you know, uh, playing pac Man on a
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: percent of time. I mean, you know, you've got to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: be ready to rod and you gotta know what you're
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: gonna do. But like when you're in that, when you're
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: at that height, I almost feel like they look for you.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: They're not even you know, people talk about about they're
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: looked up all the time, you know, and and which
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: they very well might do. And then might be because
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: you're sitting that they've seen in the same stand every day,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: or you're you know, and they used to looking for
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: those street stands or whatever. But I do feel that
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: there's a there's a mid heighting there that people are
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: scared than that because they think it's too low. But
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: I do it, like think like that's a better height
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to be at. I feel like there's less association from
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: with danger at that height and you know, it's it's
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: so I feel like it's kind of a in every
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: aspect i'd just like to be you know, especially if
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: you get some covered. Man, if you get some like
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: real not really cover that low. I mean, I think
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: that's the most invincible, like seniors like those you know,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: not real mature seniors, but man pan street off the
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: ground and a senior tree. Um, I didn't talk. That's
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: like that's like what death should look like in the
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: in the dictionary. I mean it's it's, yeah, that's hard
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: to it's hard to beat that. So. Um So then
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: that brings me to trimming a little a little bit
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: more on the trimming aspect. Are you Are you then
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: in a situation like that, leaving as much cover as
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: possible and just trim me out a lane to your
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: to your one best spot you're like a location or
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: do you try to have multiple shot opportunities available to
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: like how do you balance that? Um? I definitely go
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: so normally, mean, especially like a sediar situation, if it's
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: really thick, I'll definitely focus on the couple of main
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: You know, there's there's some stuff that's so thick that
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I hunt that you couldn't possibly trem lane every every trail,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: So that's where you gotta be more focused in on
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: and a lot of times when it's real thick, I'll
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: just I might even just set up on one trail.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I say, Okay, I know he's gonna come down here.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna be seated ready to shoot him, you know,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: and this is my only shot, you know. I mean,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: I gotta by the time I see him, at the
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: time he's dead, it'll probably be two seconds, you know.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: So there's a lot of that that I would like
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: to to go on you know, um where you can't
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: really see a whole lot. But to that being said,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: if I can trim a little bit extra and cover
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: a couple of lanes, I will, Um. I'm pretty uh,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I'm pretty critical on myself of of how like I
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: don't know what you'd call it, like my my actions
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: in the stand, Like you know, I know that I'm
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: not getting busted. I'm not moving around a lot like
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: I'm you know, I I sit like percent a time,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: like just waiting for so I'll sacrifice a little cover
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Like if it's if there's a bunch of stuff that
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I think, you know, let's say let's say I can't
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: you know, let's say there's so many hot trails in
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: this little spot, which is which is hardly ever, but
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: that where I need to cover cut electra stuff. I'll
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: cut of the electrac stuff like I need to. I'm
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: I've never been like a you know, a trimming nazi,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: like I need all this stuff. I need to be
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: covered here, I need to be covered there. I'm definitely
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: not like that. But I also don't drop every day
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: and live down on the tree. So I just I
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: guess I find a happy medium to where, um, I
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: get enough shots and I got enough cover. Yeah that
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: makes sense. So so this whole way of hunting, you know,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: sneaking in with a stand on your back and sticks
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: like you alluded to earlier in our chat, Like that's
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: become a whole lot more popular over the last i
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: don't know, five years or so, give or take um.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: More and more people are realizing the benefits of hunting
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: new areas. You know that those first time sits can
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: be so great moving around a lot. So with so
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: many more people kind of taking this approach and you
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: having you know, a ton of experience doing it, also
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: having learned from your dad, who was one of kind
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: of the pioneers in this kind of hunting. When you
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: see or hear all these other people trying this kind
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: of hunt, what do you see as being the most
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: common mistake that you see people making or hear about
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: people making. Is there anything out there that just makes
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: you cringe when you hear about other people trying to
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: do mobile hunting in certain ways? Yeah? I think I
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: I think what makes me cringe is is when people
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: they people failed to notice the obvious. So with all
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: the my biggest and the whole reason why I never
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: really even talked to anybody about hunting. And you know,
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: I don't always get questions from people. I've always been
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: trade show and killed so many good deal like why
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: don't you why don't you talk to I've never wanted
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: to give somebody information and have them take it wrong
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: and mess up or something and be you know, touched
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: or anything. But when people avoid to realize the obvious,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Like so, my biggest fear is like even this podcast,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: people listen to this, and everybody will go out and
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: look for that deer on that bed, and like that
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: that's the only thing they think of in their mind,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Like that's you know. And I've had even buddies like
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: this too, you know. So it's like, you know, they
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: go out there and they they hear about this this.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: You know, they've heard about the bumping up. They hear
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: about oh, man, you know he's been he's been doing
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: like you know, a revise bumping up. It's a little
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: different he's got you know, like they take what we said, Oh,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: he's got to be the b pattern and that's what
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: I want to do. I'm doing that. And they go
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: out into the timber with that only thing in their minds,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: and they they avoid the obvious like I've I've seen
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: it happen. I've seen guys so so infatuated with signing
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: a bed or killing a deer over its bed that
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: they overlook like just like low hanging fruit. And that
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: right there is what is what really drives me next
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: because and and here's the perfect example. I was hunting
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, um with a guy never
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: hunted before, and you know, I was seeing a buck
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: that I knew was coming out to a certain certain
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: egg field and feeding, and you know, it was just
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: like one of those and he kept saying, why don't
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: you going to kill that buck. Why why aren't you
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: going in there? Or I'm like, I'm not gonna go
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: in there, or why an't you gonna find his bed?
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Why didn't he dead yet? Why? And I'm like, dude,
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go look up his betting routine. And
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: if I don't, if I can kill him on his
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: field edge, like he's literally coming out to this field
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: as soon as I get that west wind, I'm slipping
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: in there. Like you know, it's one of those things
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: where where so many guys then they get they get
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: so infatuated with the one way of doing things. You
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: gotta keep your eyes open. You've gotta be open to
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: all aspects of it. That if I'm looking for a
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: bed and I find a hot trail, I'll stop. Oh
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: you know, I was looking for a bed, but ship,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: this is a hot trail. Let me let me jump
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: up here and see what happens. Like I'm not gonna
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: go start just going nuts if I don't have to.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: So um, I don't know if that makes sense, but um,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: you know. And then to that point, I think that
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: deer died three days later on a field edge, and
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I don't kill a whole lot of deer on the field, yes,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: and I'd rather kill him in the woods. But like what,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: you know, there's no need to make things harder than
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: they you know, then they need to be same thing
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: with scrapes. It's like, okay, well you know you gotta
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: you gotta scrape. It's getting pounded. Let's see you walk
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: by every day. That thing is getting pounded every day,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: and it's just I mean, it's just getting hammered. Put
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: the damn scrape. You know, some people, like God, they
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: got like this this um, this this thought. Why can't
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: you know? Some they they think it's too easy. They're like, oh,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: well I can't. You're not gonna come back a scrape
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: and shoot in daylight hours or you know, you hear
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: you hear that the old fable tale of not fable tale,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: but you hear the tales of like guys shooting bucks
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: right and next to right by the parking lots and
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: puppic crowns. Sometimes people are so don't get me wrong, Yeah,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: the deeper you can get them, farther away from people,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: you can get as good. But some people overlooked at
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: that completely obviously obvious sign that is right at the
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: parking area you know. I mean, it's just want to
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: and they see it and they sink in their head
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: it can't be, it can't be it's right next to
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: the parking area. Well, I promise you it is like that.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: These design ain't lying you. It's not fake, you know.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: So I guess, yeah, that maybe a long winded explanation
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: of it. But what overlooking the habits, I'd say, yeah, man,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: that's such a great point, and it's it's you kind
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: of brought up something that that I'm sure we're all
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: guilty of just some degree, which is right. You hear,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: you hear these kind of rules sometimes in the hunting world,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: like don't hunt scrapes because of whatever. You know, lots
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: of people have shown research that it's it's just nighttime
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: activity now or so much of it's nightimiative versay, don't
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: hunt too close to parking lots or um. Yeah, there's
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: all these kind of maxims out there that many times
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: maybe you're true, and so they get talked about a
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: lot and then that though, becomes like a rule that
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: some people have, and it's it becomes a real negative.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: If you're never willing to color outside the lines. Sometimes
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: if you're not willing to see what you said like
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: the obvious sometimes or try different things, or be willing
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: to be flexible you know you're gonna miss out. And uh,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: you know. One example of that, and this is something
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: that I, um, I fall into this myself quite a bit,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: is the the popular notion that hunting mornings in the
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: early season or in the late season is something that's
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: maybe not recommended in a lot of cases. And so
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: I've been someone who said that often, at least in
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: my scenarios. I found, like, man, it seems really risky
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: a lot of times to go in there in certain situations,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: and maybe the upside isn't as high. So because of that,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: I don't hunt a ton of warnings now, I know,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: though there's certainly scenarios where it can be great. I
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: know you're a guy who does really like those early
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: season mornings. Um, can you kind of walk us through
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: why that works for you and why that's one of
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: those rules that maybe shouldn't be so set in stone always?
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: You know? I don't. I don't know, and I think, um,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: I know, I've talked about this a couple of times,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: but I do not know where the know she came from?
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: So I think maybe a combination of you know that
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: that quote unquote lull of movement um or um you know,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: temperature or whatever it may be, that it's keeping people
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: out of the you know, from hunting in the mornings.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I think a lot of that stems with people are
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: so conditioned to hunt a certain area and have a
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: certain image in their head, like there's there's so much like,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: you know, everybody wants to shoot that that that buck,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: you know, coming diagonal into a freaking decoy on a
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: field age like, and they they have they have all
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: these visions that I think they see through mainstream hunting today,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: that that they picture in their head and they want
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: that to be right, you know. So you know, guys,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: you know, this gets built up and they have an
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: idea of how they'd like to kill something or at
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: least what they see on TV, whether it be through
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: you know, on this luscious big food plot you know, um,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: which is deer coming right in or or you know whatever,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: and they fail to realize, like you know, you have
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: to um, it's a different like when these deer are
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: killed in the morning, at least when I killed these
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: deer in the morning in October, I'm these aren't. These
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: aren't great hunts that like you you you'd go home
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: and tell your buddies about. They're not like, dude, I've
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: seen you know, I've seen three bucks and they were sparring.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: Or I've seen I've seen twenty deer today and you know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: and and it's um uh you know, or or I
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: was loaded, I was covered up all more. And these
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: are these are specific little missions to kill a specific
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: deer most of the time, or like with me, a
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: lot of these times, like when I kill in the
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: morning in October, like that's the only that's the only
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: deer I see. And and you know, it's it comes
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: down to one of those things that you know, I've
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: said for a long time that I'm I'm sure I
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: probably you know, um picked up from somewhere, but like, well,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: you want to stay here and have a good time,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: or do you want to kill it, dear? And if
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: you really ask yourselves that, you know you're gonna see more, dear,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: and you're gonna have quote unquote better hunts in the
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: evening in October on food sources or whatever the hell
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: you're doing. But you know, I mean, I think they're
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: gonna have more it's gonna be a shittier hunt, but
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: you're gonna have more success. So I think a lot
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: of that is is a is a way people envision
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: themselves hunting, and not a lot of people like there's
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: also that fear of getting into the woods because now
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: you know, you're probably not gonna have all that much
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: luck early season October on the field legs in the morning, like,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: that's probably not where you want to be, you know, Uh,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you want to be more so where they're bed and
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: you know, you know, figure out that pattern and be
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: closer in on them and get them, you know, coming
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: in there. So I think it's just it comes down
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: to it's a different it's a completely different hunt, a
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: different style. Um, you know altogether that makes sense. I
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: don't know if I'm can in circles or what. No,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: it makes sense. UM. Now I want to lay out
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: a scenario for you and you tell me if if Um,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I'm guessing. I guess. What I'm trying to say here
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: is I'm guessing that that morning hunt approach in October
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: is situational. Right. There's certain situations where it could work
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: really well. There's certain situations where maybe it's not as
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: is recommended, and you tell me if this is if
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: you think it's right around. But let's say you hunt
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: just a small property. You only have a twenty acre
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: property of which there's just one good betting area of
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: timber on it, and on any given year, you'll be
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: lucky if there's one mature buck, and that one mature
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: buck usually like you don't get a whole lot of
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: chances of that deer because you're in Michigan and there's
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: hunting all around you, and if you if you bump
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: that deer a few times once or twice, you're probably
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: not gonna see him moving Daylyn. That's maybe what you
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: know about your area. Now, if that is your scenario,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: would you agree that pushing in there for morning hunt
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: into that one betting area you can hunt in early
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: October that might be pretty high risk. And maybe in
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: that scenario you would say, well, maybe you try something different,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: because if you go in there in the morning and
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: he doesn't give you a shot, but you have to
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: walk out of there and blow it out or whatever
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: it might be, is that kind of scen there and
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: maybe hey, it's it's too risky, you shouldn't do it,
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: Versus maybe you got a big property with a bunch
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: of different betting areas. You could hunt in the mornings
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: and if it doesn't go good today, you could try
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: again somewhere else tomorrow. Is that make sense? You know?
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: So so there's yeah, there's a I would come at
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: this from so many different angles. I would. I would literally,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: you know, depending on the property, depending on you know,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: I think you said you have neighbors are hunting right
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: now when you're hunting, that's what you're saying. I would
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: saying that example, a lot of you know, depending on
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: depending on perimeter pressure. You know what this means, you know,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: I would take I would really start diving into this.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: So I mean, do I have a history with this deer? Like,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: is you know, do I know where he's feeding? Am
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I seeing him a day? Like? Do I got pictures
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: of him? Is he a deer that I think he's there?
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Do I know he's there? Like? Is he like if
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I know? If I know that deer is bettered in that?
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: You know, So this is your forty you should know
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: this thing that's the back of your hand. I would
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: think from shed hunting and all this stuff, if you
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: have that idea where that deer is on that forty, Um,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: and you know he's better there, and you like maybe
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: he's going out to the I don't know where he's
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: coming out, but um, you know that's where I would calculate. Okay,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: well here's a chance, like you know, is this dear
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: a world record? Like where I you know, like where
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: like and if I bump him and he runs, like
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: I know, there's a guy in a tree stand, you know,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: freaking I could see him in my com binos, you
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: know that would that would definitely have a have a factor.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: I've always been the kind of guy that like, you know,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: if well, if I bump them, I'll find another deer.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: You know, I'll go, I'll go, you know, hunt a
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: different deer or whatever or if or if if something
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: something happens with that. So I think that would take
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: a play. But where I think guys have the most
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: benefits if they like, if this is your forty and
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: you know this thing like the back of your hand,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: like and you know where that dear is betted, You'll
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: probably have a really a good idea of like, oh
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: ship I could get in this story and I could
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: be invincible, you know, I mean, how is your access
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: if you can't if you got to run through the
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: betting area or uh, you know, access will play a
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: big factor. Um, I do not think I would be
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: able to resist going in and hunting that deer in
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: the morning. I think I would do that immediately and
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I and I think, you know, eight times out of
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: those time, I'd probably come out with that deer. You know.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: But there's also the you know, the factor, well is
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: he coming? Like one of your food plots, like is
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: he coming? Are you seeing him come out? Is he traveling?
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Like can Like it's one of those things like avoiding obvious,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: like yeah, you might know he's better there, but are
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: you seeing him in the evening? Like is he is
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: he just making it out there at last light? To
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: where like you think that a couple more days or
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: a week you might kill him, you know, because you
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: also got to think too, my biggest concern, Like in
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: that situation, I think I'd probably be on that beer.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: You know, I would probably hunt him a couple I
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: would hunt him in the evenings a few times if
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I was as scared to get in there and if
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: nothing was happening, I would go to the deer instantly
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: because I've lost out on so many deer that when
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: they start getting squarely laid out over and when the
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: ruck kicks in, somebody else is gonna shoot that deer
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: anyway that deer is gonna be So if you only
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: got forty eight years, you better get your get the
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: let out and go after that sucker because the odds
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: and him making it through a freaking rut and then
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: through a gun season and then like you know, I
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: feel like you're being patient and holding your vices are
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: they're they're completely like you know, if you if you
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: want to talk to me in a gambler man, you're
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: more likely to succeed going in there, and maybe you
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: might bump that buck out of there, but he's better
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: there for a reason, You're more likely to succeed by
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: pushing the envelope then, you know, betting on that thing
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: making the entire season. Yeah, yeah, that's that's something that
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: I always, uh have been reminding myself of, is that
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: fact that they're betting somewhere for a reason. Like these
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: deer they're not they're on a whim. They found a
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: safe spot and even if you muck it up once,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: like they're gonna want to go back to it. Yeah,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: if you go in there every day for ten straight days,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: that he might be screwing things exactly. You I've seen
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: people just butcher betting areas, like they're literally in there
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: trying and no fault to them. Stuff they're trying to learn.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: So they go in there all the time. Well, that's
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: not the best. You know that, that's not what you
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: want to be doing, because because by us, for sure,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: you know you're gonna you're gonna run into that situation
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: where you know, if that deer is getting pressured that much,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: he's probably gonna you know, it's just it's just the
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: fact of it. You know, whether that be two times
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: for that deer or six times, I could you know,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: I'm sure that will depend on how long he's been there.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: You know, a lot of times there're pecking order two,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: so who are like you know, some of them you
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: don't want to move because that's there, that's their zone,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Like they've earned that zone, they've worked for it, you know. Um,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: and if they move something else, a lot of times
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: come in you know. And that's so I mean, there's
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: a lot of different different ways to look at that too.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: But you mentioned you mentioned a couple of times that
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: you would go in there and hunt that morning. You
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: know right away you get in there instantly and take
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: a stab at him. Do you mean that literally or
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: do you mean like the first time conditions are right?
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: I guess what I'm asking is, are there any certain
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: types of weather triggers or something or moon or whatever
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: that makes you think, Okay, this is the best possible
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: day to hunt one of these mornings set ups? You know.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: I know that a lot of guys talk about red
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: moon times or hunting cold fronts, different things like that.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Do you wait for anything like that to give you
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: a little better chance or do you just go? Um?
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I pretty much just I would pretty much go and
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I would just make sure that when I went in
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: there to make the uh, like, I would make sure
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: my ASSISI situation was right for for that time specifically. Now,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: if you got you know to that point, you know,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: if you've got a really on moon face coming up
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: and you've got a nice food plot that you think
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: this there is gonna be you know, that's more so
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: like where okay, I'd probably time that, like if if
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: it's gonna be one of those you know, you know,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: red moon times where you think that bluff is gonna
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: be feeding being your food plotter in a nearby you know,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: as point in like three days. Well, I, you know,
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I don't know if I'd go in there, and I'd
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: probably give that a shot, you know, if it all
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: depended it on you know, what information I had to me,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: but not that I would wait for an optimal time
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: to go in there. I would just make sure that
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: when I went in there, I was completely right for
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: you know now like you know that comes back you
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: know on the property. I look at it and know
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: where he's betting. It's just completely ship with these wins.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: I obviously wouldn't go in there then when I had
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: these funds coming up for if I had any start
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: of east Head, maybe make sure I had a you know,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: the best win for that spot. And it really makes
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: it a lot a lot better and you can really
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: think about it more when you know the area, Like
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: if you've literally set boots on where you think he's
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: bett it, well, then you can really forming at a
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: game plan, and you might if you think he's so
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: you know, dead's hed in that area, you can you know,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: you can wait a couple days like okay, it says
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: it's gonna be chilly this morning. I'll probably be a
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: stew a little long and owning I'm gonna slip back there,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: and I wanna you know, I want to. I'll catch
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: him a little later coming to come into it better.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: So yeah, I would definitely, um, you know, used to
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: is like that to my advantage. But I also like
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: to never let that stop me from hunting. Like what
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I know, that's when it comes back to avoiding the obvious.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I do believe in the moon phases, right, So I
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: mean I've watched the moon. I take that into account.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: In no way or shape or form do I let
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: that dictate, you know, everything about my hunt. I have
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: killed great care on field as just when that moon
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: tastes is seeing you know, to be in any it's
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: that time. So it's just you know, in vice versa,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: it's I take it into account. You know, I'm taking
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: account thing. Okay, if you're gonna be more like cakes
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: to be feeding at the time, you know however that
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: works to take you pull out whatever it is, make him,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: you know, more like that as a whole. Nothing beats
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: that time. So it's like that, you know that that
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: signs there and what you know, it goes into the
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: moon fays Well, don't tell yourself. Oh well the moon
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: phase says this, So I can't be hunting this right now.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: That's that's just I don't. I don't. I don't get
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: that for sure. Yeah, I think that that makes a
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: lot of sense. It can be a helpful you could
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: be a helpful tool. But if you just like anything
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: kind of a lot of things we talked about, right,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: there's a lot of different kind of tips out there
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: or things that usually this is the case, but if
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: you ever get too deep into any one of these,
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: you start missing out on the obvious things that are
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: all around you that you need to be taking advantage of. Exactly.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: There's just there's so many things that like, this guy
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: might kill there, and he's a freaking and he's a
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: he's a moon he's a moon advocate through and through.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: This guy might kill him, you know, all these big
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: gear and he's a you know, betting area Taylor and
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: two and through. And then you know you got an
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: other guy was there that only hunts field there, just
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: only hunts about a southeast wind and only not someone
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: goddamn you know, a certain rare flowers, blood, you know,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: all those things might be great, but it's like we're
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: a guy. I think he has to take those things in,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: you know, and and figure out, um, you know, figure
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: out for yourself. You know. I was in what its helps,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: but it's it's you know, just like to that point.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: But you know I have, um, everybody's got thrown smile.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: But to be open and to and to be able
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: to adapt, um is where you're ultimately going to be
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: the it's gonna be the best hunter you can be.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: And and I think experiencing those things, like you know,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: you're better for him. Like you know, you go through
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: those you're constantly learning, you know, and you've got to
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: keep a constant open mind. If I see something like
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: it against everything that we've been talking about, like on
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: this podcast next year, I will completely throw everything out
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: of the window and go into what I'm seeing, what
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: is true, what's real right for me? So I think
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: that's a um, you know, if if there's something where
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: I think because I've I've been in that situation before too,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: like i've uh, you know, a big deer that I
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: killed a couple of years ago. Like I was started
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: to seeing silence, right on this road and I'm like,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: and I really see it, and I'm like, you know what?
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: And I was thinking like, could that be here? Could
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: that be this? You know, there's this big Bucks cup
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: and hunting. No, No, he wouldn't be right here. He's
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: a smart for that. He wouldn't be right here, you know,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: And until I slapped myself in the face and was like,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: who says He's like, well, you know, maybe that's the
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: smartest before. You know, maybe this is where he and
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I mounted it. You know, I heard it that and
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: then four days later I ended up telling it here.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: It's just one of those things that you've got to
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: pull yourself out of that that, you know, making assumptions
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: and you know, pigeonal and everything. Yeah. Yeah. If there's
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: anything I've learned from, you know, running this podcast over
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the years, it's that there are so many different ways
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: to do this thing, and you gotta stay open to
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: new ideas and try things out and learn as you go.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: If you get stuck in a rut, I mean, that's
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: one of the worst things you can do. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: So we're running up on time here, I'm gonna if
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: I don't catch myself here, I'll sit here talking to
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: me for six hours and your day is gonna shot. Um,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: So I want to just wrap it up with with
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: a couple quick final questions. If you had to do
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: a really quick like self analysis and think through what
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: your biggest weakness is as a hunter, because we've talked
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: about a lot of things that make you successful, why
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: you've done so so well in the woods. But is
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: there anything that you could pick out that might be
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: a weakness of yours that you maybe its hurt you
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: a little bit at some point as a as a hunter.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: And yeah, as a hunter, um not I think I
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: get so I get so um caught up in there's
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: there's probably two things that come that come around right
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: away and when one would be um falling back into that.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: I think it's natural for everybody, and it's a big
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: thing I preach because I know it's one of my weaknesses.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: And that's why I try and tell anybody who's interested
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: in listening to not do it. And that's dwelling on
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: the past. I there's so many times where I getting
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: getting situations and I have that I have that corn
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: and tore I should go in there and set up
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: should dick me twenty minutes. It ends up taking me
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: twenty minutes. Did I start to replay all highlight reels
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: in my head and think about that slimmer that I killed,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: that that tree and oh that tree I set up before,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: it's a regular rock on the trim thing like it's
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: right in the area. And I, like I said, I
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: keep myselfing us again and I'm like, what are you doing?
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: You know, like, that's not the trade this year. The
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: trade this year is X trays over, Like, don't be lazy.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: He's trying something that tree to feed over and get
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: down and and that I think that is a big
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: I think, um, that's probably one day thing. And like
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: I said, I try and um, I considered a weakness that,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: but but it's constant in my head. So it's something
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: I personally I still hell for because you know, I
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: think it's natural though you know, you know, thinking about
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: things like that. The other thing would be, um, um,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: probably what I'm gonna focus on now, you know, more
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: so spending more time on the archery end of things
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: and the honey of things. Like it's it's weird, you know,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: you talk to different people and you see like where
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: you know, you can see where their time is spent,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: and like, I'm so so much into the hunting and
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: the chess game and the figure out that I'll I'll
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: consistently create opportunities for myself the entire year. But like,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: like you know, it's like, dang, you know, I should
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: have been shooting more like I didn't. You know, I
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: didn't follow with that shot. I didn't follow through with
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: that shot. So I you know, so I missed him,
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: you know, or you know a lot of that kind
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: of stuff. So I think maybe, you know, on the
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: back end of things, you know, one of my biggest
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: weakness is not looking at um all the aspects of it,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: you know, like like just archery, Like dude, man, you know,
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: get tech, you with your you know, get familiar with
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: your boat a little bit, you know, get to know this,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: get to know that, you know, do a little bit more.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: I'm so like just hunt, hunt, hunt, scout, scout scout,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: like you know, and and it's um, you know, not
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: not a place I really put a lot of my time. Well, uh,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: that was gonna be. The next question is what's one
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: thing you might do differently this year? So you got
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: that one covered, which is interestingly one of the things
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna be doing too. So um yea man, Cody,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: this is uh, this has been fun, really interesting stuff.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: I've enjoyed your perspective, I think, uh, I think a
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: lot of it falls in line with a lot of
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: things I've been thinking about. So this is great to
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: hear from you. If if folks wanna I want to
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: learn more about what you guys got going on with
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: the gear and everything, you want to give us that
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: website address for war time, Uh, it's www dot long

- 1:40:41Speaker 1: be uh posting stuff on there. Um And yeah, I
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: mean that's that's pretty much will be the main avenue
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: for the products. Um and uh well also to my
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: you know, my personal Instagram page. I'd like to like
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I'll be putting out some inside scoops and some of
