- 0:06Speaker 1: Dude, miss god oh ry oh maybe all right? What's
- 0:20Speaker 1: going on? Everybody? I am the one, the only, the
- 0:22Speaker 1: w oh okay, I eat joined here with the new Castle,
- 0:25Speaker 1: my new family.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Welcome.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Isn't that what they say when you get divorced? It's
- 0:30Speaker 1: my new family, I.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Mean divorced or like, ignored, abused, neglected, punish like for sure.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So many adjectives there. But we got things.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yep, that's me.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Hey, big here, we got Zach.
- 0:49Speaker 3: How's it going, guys?
- 0:50Speaker 1: We got ogre Heny.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Thanks for having me back only this time after this
- 0:56Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yep, you're cut off, your cut off no more?
- 0:59Speaker 1: And we got this sure and all right, tons of
- 1:06Speaker 1: stuff to go over. There was a thing that happened
- 1:09Speaker 1: this week, right or last week now right? Yep, yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 1: so it's a big thing. It happened a lot. Do
- 1:17Speaker 1: you want to go over that first, or do you
- 1:19Speaker 1: want to go Are we going down the list?
- 1:21Speaker 2: I think we're going down the list, So going.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Down the list. So we're gonna start out with the
- 1:25Speaker 1: unique of the week.
- 1:28Speaker 2: All right, ogre is taking a break to start our
- 1:31Speaker 2: segment for our still missing other casts. Mate, so he
- 1:35Speaker 2: overn give him more time? If once about that. So
- 1:38Speaker 2: our Unique of the week was actually kind of a
- 1:40Speaker 2: throwout to like you just find really cool stuff in
- 1:43Speaker 2: the wild. Last week, Zach and we were playing at
- 1:46Speaker 2: a local what was it sealed of it and at
- 1:51Speaker 2: the end of it we all got the little ope packs,
- 1:53Speaker 2: reopened the three and between the two of us we
- 1:57Speaker 2: opened six total cards and we popped the unique and
- 1:59Speaker 2: it was Sandman Unique. Sandman in the lier of faction.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Pretty fun car, just having learning in general, But this
- 2:07Speaker 2: one is a poor hand cost for reserve costs a
- 2:12Speaker 2: little higher than on most leaders are want of running.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But the stats on it are four to three zero.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I'm so pretty much in line with what you'd expect
- 2:19Speaker 2: for that can cost and the reserve cost, because that's
- 2:23Speaker 2: generally how the Sandman works. But here's the cool part.
- 2:27Speaker 2: This is why it's our unique of the week, just
- 2:29Speaker 2: the fact that people are opening these things every day
- 2:31Speaker 2: and these they have fun stuff. So it has an
- 2:34Speaker 2: arrow effect. So all the time that you play it
- 2:37Speaker 2: up to one target creature gains asleep, you may have
- 2:40Speaker 2: it gained two boosts. The really significant thing is here
- 2:44Speaker 2: is that is the basic sand Man effect, but normal
- 2:47Speaker 2: sand Man effect only has it from the hand play,
- 2:51Speaker 2: so you're getting this effect times too, so whether you're
- 2:54Speaker 2: running a Liri deck that is going for festival or
- 2:57Speaker 2: you're just pushing someone that has a static effect like
- 2:59Speaker 2: an aloe alo vera, just to get that extra stuff
- 3:03Speaker 2: the next turn. But it has another effect. It has
- 3:06Speaker 2: another hero effect, which is resupply, which is absolutely gold,
- 3:11Speaker 2: especially if you're running a Fen deck. I will never
- 3:14Speaker 2: play Venka, but if you're playing a Venka, just having
- 3:17Speaker 2: more cards available to you as solid and this even
- 3:20Speaker 2: has a zero stat if you are somehow insane enough
- 3:23Speaker 2: to go play kibbles and bose games.
- 3:25Speaker 4: I wanted to mention that actually, just before we go
- 3:29Speaker 4: too much further on it, the thing that immediately jumped
- 3:32Speaker 4: out to me about this card is that often we're
- 3:36Speaker 4: going to find ourselves talking about Fenn when we're talking
- 3:37Speaker 4: about Lira, because that's the competitive hero in pink, right.
- 3:41Speaker 4: But yeah, this is a card with a zero stat
- 3:45Speaker 4: which is how you stack AREC triggers. And also the
- 3:50Speaker 4: way that our exibility works is he pulls the top
- 3:53Speaker 4: card off the deck and sends it into play directly. Right, Yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 4: so any hand abilities aren't evaluated because you didn't play
- 4:01Speaker 4: it from your hand, but arrow abilities still trigger all
- 4:06Speaker 4: all the arrow means is comes into play from anywhere,
- 4:09Speaker 4: right yep. So this card maybe uniquely good amongst some
- 4:16Speaker 4: of the other things that we've seen. If you're wanting
- 4:18Speaker 4: to run the like the Gamble arc build, yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that is what most impressed me with
- 4:26Speaker 2: this card is it is literally good for every single hero.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And we've we're going to be talking about this a lot.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Most of the way the decks are being built. There
- 4:35Speaker 2: are when you see a good unique it's actually only
- 4:38Speaker 2: good for like one hero And I don't think you're
- 4:41Speaker 2: ever going to use this, but heck for why not
- 4:43Speaker 2: this This card actually has a quick quick action as well.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You can discard it from your reserve. You may have
- 4:49Speaker 2: a target character other than it lose fleeting. So if
- 4:52Speaker 2: you have something you really want to get fleeting off
- 4:55Speaker 2: the board, you could do that too with it if
- 4:57Speaker 2: you just don't have the mana in and you're going
- 4:59Speaker 2: for some kind of need. But in general, this card
- 5:02Speaker 2: is its value on value. Let's just thrown out there
- 5:06Speaker 2: like this is one of the really cool things about
- 5:09Speaker 2: Altered Look. You get to see these things that don't
- 5:12Speaker 2: exist and this is the only one I looked for
- 5:14Speaker 2: others s and man, I literally can't find anything like
- 5:17Speaker 2: this out there. So that's it's pretty pretty cool.
- 5:21Speaker 4: And and last week we kind of we ranted a
- 5:24Speaker 4: little bit about some of the Blue uniques. Obviously, you know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: we have feelings about how the algorithm treats Blue versus
- 5:31Speaker 4: how some of the other factions get treated in it.
- 5:34Speaker 4: But I think this is a great example of a
- 5:36Speaker 4: card where like if we were going to just say
- 5:38Speaker 4: a good unique rite, a card that does something that
- 5:42Speaker 4: you're not going to find elsewhere, that has a little
- 5:44Speaker 4: bit more value maybe than it's rare counterpart in the
- 5:48Speaker 4: right circumstances, and something that's just going to generally like
- 5:52Speaker 4: round a deck out and you're always gonna like, you
- 5:56Speaker 4: will never feel bad including this card over a common
- 6:00Speaker 4: and that is not true of all uniques, especially yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 4: because it's you know, it's not just the common slot,
- 6:07Speaker 4: it's also you're taking up a hero slot, like you
- 6:11Speaker 4: can't have that third sin men now that you're not
- 6:15Speaker 4: going to run into that. So this is just this
- 6:17Speaker 4: is a great baseline for if we were going to
- 6:19Speaker 4: look for what is sort of across the board, good
- 6:23Speaker 4: not ortist good, right, and that's not not is mere
- 6:26Speaker 4: good but just good?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it is mere good? Is is it at
- 6:31Speaker 2: least as good as the rare? So to get a
- 6:33Speaker 2: lot of that's is the mere good?
- 6:35Speaker 1: So here's a question for you guys. Yeah see, I
- 6:40Speaker 1: know you weren't big into other card games, but maybe
- 6:43Speaker 1: the rest of the cast was why is blue Whenever
- 6:49Speaker 1: there seems to be colors in a game, why is
- 6:53Speaker 1: blue always the one causing trouble? Magic? It's literally blue?
- 7:00Speaker 1: In key Forge it was logos, which is blue. It
- 7:05Speaker 1: always seems to be blue, seems to be the best.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And I can't imagine that this is pure and utter coincidence.
- 7:13Speaker 4: At this point, you've stumbled upon a conspiracy that I
- 7:17Speaker 4: don't think we're allowed to talk about on it.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry part of the illuminati with that though. Ogre's
- 7:30Speaker 2: segment for today is up.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Okay, So obviously I'm I'm not Dexter, right, I well,
- 7:40Speaker 4: I'm significantly I was told significantly older, I'm not as
- 7:46Speaker 4: good at card games. But I'm gonna just pretend to
- 7:48Speaker 4: be him for a week because I have been thinking
- 7:52Speaker 4: a lot about some of what we're going to talk
- 7:54Speaker 4: about here. In a bit some of the tournament footage
- 7:56Speaker 4: that I watched, some of the tournaments that I participated in,
- 7:59Speaker 4: and I've had a lot of opportunity, as you may
- 8:03Speaker 4: have guessed from how much we talk about watching like
- 8:05Speaker 4: Waru plays and just kind of general grumblings about the
- 8:09Speaker 4: high tier play that we've been spectating. But stepping away
- 8:13Speaker 4: from grumbling about it and like looking at what I
- 8:15Speaker 4: can take from it, there's something that I really wanted
- 8:21Speaker 4: to put forward. For the audience members who listen, This
- 8:25Speaker 4: is not for your disease, This is not for your
- 8:27Speaker 4: PLU because you guys already know you can just tune
- 8:30Speaker 4: me out for a second. But for everybody else, I
- 8:33Speaker 4: want to talk about. Expedition planning is kind of what
- 8:36Speaker 4: I'm calling it, and the sort of a big departure
- 8:41Speaker 4: in Altered from other card games is the concept of permanence, right,
- 8:48Speaker 4: and how that ties into your expedition planning day to day.
- 8:52Speaker 4: So almost every card game on the market, you're going
- 8:55Speaker 4: to find exceptions, but almost all of them. When you
- 8:59Speaker 4: play a card to your board, it's there until your
- 9:02Speaker 4: opponent interacts with right, it's you're gonna spend resources, and
- 9:06Speaker 4: then you're gonna You're gonna play it, and it's gonna
- 9:08Speaker 4: contribute to your board state, and it's gonna continue to
- 9:10Speaker 4: do so until they remove it or until you do
- 9:14Speaker 4: something to remove it. It's not just gonna go away
- 9:16Speaker 4: on its own. Altered is fundamentally different outside of Waru
- 9:22Speaker 4: and and the green decks and some of the pink decks,
- 9:30Speaker 4: when when you play a thing each each turn, you're
- 9:34Speaker 4: going to benefit from what that thing does for that turn.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Each each I say should shouldn't say turn, I should
- 9:42Speaker 4: say round, each round and Altered is like a is
- 9:45Speaker 4: a mini game. Right in Magic the Gathering, you're slowly
- 9:48Speaker 4: chipping away at the opponent's hit points right like It's
- 9:50Speaker 4: It's a drawn out fight over the course of many
- 9:53Speaker 4: rounds where you're always taking what steps you can to
- 9:56Speaker 4: minimize their board and eat away at their life, so
- 9:58Speaker 4: eventually you get it to zero and you win. And
- 10:00Speaker 4: Altered every single round you're competing in a new tug
- 10:05Speaker 4: of war game to try to get your expedition to
- 10:07Speaker 4: move forward.
- 10:08Speaker 2: One Oh, I like the tug part of that. That's
- 10:11Speaker 2: so good.
- 10:12Speaker 4: So what I've seen and what I've started to notice
- 10:18Speaker 4: as I play into sort of I live on the
- 10:22Speaker 4: lower end of the yellow spectrum compared to some of
- 10:25Speaker 4: the folks that are with us tonight, So I spend
- 10:28Speaker 4: my time playing down there, and then I in tournaments
- 10:31Speaker 4: wind up playing too much higher ELO and watching footage
- 10:35Speaker 4: of much higher ELO players. And a key sort of
- 10:39Speaker 4: difference between those players that stuck out to me this
- 10:41Speaker 4: week is how they approach that aspect of altered what
- 10:49Speaker 4: I find. And I'm gonna I'm gonna use Pluca and
- 10:53Speaker 4: Sylvain and like our our big time Waru players as
- 10:57Speaker 4: my example of what the what the high level people
- 10:59Speaker 4: are doing. I think because they play Waru, they're sort
- 11:04Speaker 4: of they get the edge on being trained to behave
- 11:08Speaker 4: a certain way because war Wu lets them bring in
- 11:11Speaker 4: some of that other card game experience, right like you
- 11:14Speaker 4: can't actually build a board, and you can lean into
- 11:18Speaker 4: playing things that they're going to affect your next turn,
- 11:21Speaker 4: not just this turn, which means their formula is slightly different,
- 11:25Speaker 4: but even them if you watch, if you watch some
- 11:29Speaker 4: Pluca replays or some Sylvane replays, I've seen z do
- 11:33Speaker 4: it Zach. I haven't gotten to watch play as much recently,
- 11:38Speaker 4: but I'll I'd be willing to bet if you go
- 11:39Speaker 4: and find his replays. He's doing it too. They're watching
- 11:43Speaker 4: what their opponent is doing from the start of the round,
- 11:46Speaker 4: and you can see the moment when they realize, no
- 11:49Speaker 4: matter how many cards they have in hand, no matter
- 11:50Speaker 4: what they haven't reserve that if they continue to contribute
- 11:54Speaker 4: to this rounds tug of war, they're not going to
- 11:57Speaker 4: move the ribbon right. They can't bring it back. What
- 12:02Speaker 4: a player at my level will do is they will
- 12:05Speaker 4: continue to play cards. They will just continue to play
- 12:08Speaker 4: cards well past the moment where they should have been
- 12:13Speaker 4: able to read the board state and say, okay, I can't,
- 12:17Speaker 4: I can't pull this back my direction. They'll a high
- 12:21Speaker 4: level ELO player will bait out, splitting your energy across
- 12:27Speaker 4: both sides of the tuggle war instead of focusing on
- 12:30Speaker 4: one expedition or the other. And then as soon as
- 12:32Speaker 4: you fall for it, they'll spring the trap right and
- 12:37Speaker 4: they will make you waste those resources. They'll bait out
- 12:41Speaker 4: more than you should have played, and then they'll just
- 12:44Speaker 4: back off because they know you don't throw good money
- 12:48Speaker 4: after bad players like me and the people that are
- 12:52Speaker 4: playing down in my end of the pool. It takes
- 12:54Speaker 4: us longer to see that and So for today's why
- 12:58Speaker 4: I suck it altered? What I want to like really
- 13:01Speaker 4: drive home and get people to start thinking about is
- 13:05Speaker 4: each and every noon. Right when you're making your decisions
- 13:08Speaker 4: about where you're gonna put your tokens, when you're looking
- 13:11Speaker 4: at what's in the other guy's reserve, when you're looking
- 13:14Speaker 4: at your hand and you're making your man of decisions
- 13:16Speaker 4: and everything else, take a minute, right, bj is gonna
- 13:22Speaker 4: give you plenty of time that your feeling is going
- 13:26Speaker 4: to be to rush through this right because everybody plays
- 13:28Speaker 4: really fast on BGA, you're gonna feel pressure to like
- 13:31Speaker 4: to click that button and get on the move. But
- 13:34Speaker 4: just take a minute. Look at the numbers right, look
- 13:38Speaker 4: at the expedition spacing. See if there's a place where
- 13:42Speaker 4: you feel confident with what you have in your hand
- 13:44Speaker 4: and on the board and knowing what your opponent can
- 13:47Speaker 4: do even if you don't have like one hundred percent
- 13:49Speaker 4: knowledge on their hand. Decide then if it's a turn
- 13:55Speaker 4: that you're like tooth and nail fighting for, if you
- 13:59Speaker 4: feel like you need to be the player that's going
- 14:01Speaker 4: to bail out extra resources from your opponent, and then
- 14:04Speaker 4: just take a turn off, take a setup turn, play
- 14:06Speaker 4: your meadow, play your carrier, play your haven, do whatever
- 14:12Speaker 4: you need to do. But don't give it to them
- 14:14Speaker 4: for free either, right, because that's equally bad. If you
- 14:17Speaker 4: just slam whatever it is that you're going to do
- 14:20Speaker 4: for your build up right away, then your opponent now
- 14:23Speaker 4: gets free rein to save their resources.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I was gonna say they could react to that, right, Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 4: So it's it's I'm not saying it's easy, right, that's
- 14:31Speaker 4: we're all here to learn and get better, and it's
- 14:33Speaker 4: it's I'm right there with you people, like it's gonna
- 14:36Speaker 4: take a time, but please, please, please, when you look
- 14:41Speaker 4: and you see in the reserve that they've got two
- 14:44Speaker 4: cards over there, and then you look in your hand
- 14:47Speaker 4: and all of their numbers are bigger than all of
- 14:49Speaker 4: your numbers, yep, don't play the card. Wait until your
- 14:54Speaker 4: next turn, wait until your circumstances change, give yourself the
- 14:58Speaker 4: out right. Because resources are huge, they're huge.
- 15:02Speaker 2: You, they are valuable.
- 15:04Speaker 3: You have to learn like.
- 15:07Speaker 4: When to commit and when not to commit, because even
- 15:12Speaker 4: though it sometimes doesn't feel like it, because as you
- 15:14Speaker 4: watch your expeditions get further and further away from theirs,
- 15:17Speaker 4: you can absolutely still pull it back if you get
- 15:20Speaker 4: ahead on the resource game, right, they may be three
- 15:23Speaker 4: spaces away and you may be five spaces away. But
- 15:25Speaker 4: if you're killing them on hand advantage, you've got plenty
- 15:27Speaker 4: in your reserve. You've got the tools that you need
- 15:31Speaker 4: in the late game. If they were burning hot to
- 15:33Speaker 4: get to that point where they are ahead of you,
- 15:36Speaker 4: now's your chance, right. But if you're just wasting your
- 15:39Speaker 4: resources in a fight that you were never going to
- 15:41Speaker 4: win in the first place, you don't get the opportunity
- 15:44Speaker 4: to make that comeback. So just take a minute, plan
- 15:48Speaker 4: out your day, plan your day, look at your numbers.
- 15:52Speaker 4: If you're playing Into Warrior, don't count your all your
- 15:57Speaker 4: cards right because he's going to play the robin hood
- 15:59Speaker 4: every time and you're not going to get to play everything.
- 16:02Speaker 4: So add the one to the cost, look at what
- 16:06Speaker 4: you can commit, and then start clicking buttons. I guarantee
- 16:11Speaker 4: you if you take that extra time up front, you
- 16:14Speaker 4: will start winning more games.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Then you'll get yeah, very very good advice. But there
- 16:20Speaker 5: is one addendum to that, and that's sometimes I just
- 16:25Speaker 5: don't want to do math.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And you know I am don't play in arena on
- 16:31Speaker 4: those days.
- 16:32Speaker 5: I am fine tanking my elo a little bit. It's
- 16:35Speaker 5: all just internet points right now. If I don't want
- 16:40Speaker 5: to do math for a game.
- 16:41Speaker 2: But Oul is going to take care of her next
- 16:44Speaker 2: week's why I suck it altered? It is for the
- 16:49Speaker 2: math episode if the youngest young one. OK.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I found that interesting that you said, like taking another
- 16:55Speaker 3: card experience, because like with certain factions with certainly here
- 16:59Speaker 3: is like Waru, like Tasia or some of the Mooda
- 17:01Speaker 3: ones where they get anchored or asleep right like you
- 17:04Speaker 3: are building a board for next turn. And that was
- 17:07Speaker 3: kind of interesting that you said that, Like that was
- 17:09Speaker 3: a those well put, well put.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you. I've been thinking about it a
- 17:14Speaker 4: lot because I, like all of us, I'm trying to
- 17:16Speaker 4: figure out how do I play this game and and
- 17:20Speaker 4: how do I It became like glaringly obvious of the
- 17:25Speaker 4: course of the last Uh uh, why did I just
- 17:30Speaker 4: forget the name of our tournament? What's our tournament called?
- 17:32Speaker 3: Eight?
- 17:34Speaker 4: The last Ace? Watching other people play and playing myself,
- 17:39Speaker 4: like when I say I got decimated, it's not a
- 17:45Speaker 4: strong enough phrase, and uh it really like I spent
- 17:51Speaker 4: a lot of time just thinking about my play and
- 17:54Speaker 4: what I did and what I should have done, could
- 17:57Speaker 4: have done. And then I spent the rest of that
- 18:00Speaker 4: tournament and some time after watching other footage just to
- 18:02Speaker 4: see like okay, where, yeah they're playing war whatever, Right,
- 18:10Speaker 4: they're still doing things that I wasn't doing that could
- 18:16Speaker 4: have given me that little extra I needed. Right, Maybe
- 18:21Speaker 4: maybe I still don't take it at the end of
- 18:22Speaker 4: the day, but it doesn't matter, because I still need
- 18:24Speaker 4: to try to get better wherever I can, to close
- 18:27Speaker 4: that gap a little bit so that when there are
- 18:31Speaker 4: those openings to exploit, I can see them, recognize them,
- 18:33Speaker 4: and take advantage of them.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Well.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And the fact that you can watch people's replays the
- 18:38Speaker 2: way you can. Yes, it's annoying to click through that,
- 18:40Speaker 2: but like that is literally gold as far as the
- 18:45Speaker 2: amount you can improve, especially if you go back and
- 18:49Speaker 2: watch your own games, like just watching the games that
- 18:52Speaker 2: you lost over close there's something in that game that
- 18:56Speaker 2: probably you did wrong, and just being able to learn
- 18:58Speaker 2: from your mistakes, like that's actually like a really really
- 19:02Speaker 2: cool thing.
- 19:02Speaker 6: The only learning auto play as well, like how lessons
- 19:08Speaker 6: after class because I got you, I got I haven't
- 19:11Speaker 6: figured that out, yep.
- 19:13Speaker 3: I'm good say. The only thing that I don't like
- 19:14Speaker 3: about the replays is that you can't see what the
- 19:17Speaker 3: hands are and so you can't see exactly all the
- 19:20Speaker 3: thought processes that are going through, like in why is
- 19:23Speaker 3: this player playing this card as opposed to what else
- 19:25Speaker 3: did they have in their hand? Right, So, like, yes,
- 19:27Speaker 3: it is a very good learning experience, like you said,
- 19:29Speaker 3: especially your own match di Z, But there is still
- 19:32Speaker 3: that missing aspect I think as far as the replays
- 19:34Speaker 3: are concerned to see the full picture. But granted, yeah
- 19:36Speaker 3: you can. You can see what you can.
- 19:39Speaker 4: You can go through each player's perspective and that way
- 19:41Speaker 4: you can see both hands. But I mean, obviously it'd
- 19:43Speaker 4: be better if you could just from a from a
- 19:45Speaker 4: studying the game perspective, if I could just say, hey,
- 19:48Speaker 4: I want a full view, I want a full table view.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I want to know what each of these players was
- 19:53Speaker 4: thinking when they committed these resources. Yeah, that'd be that'd
- 19:57Speaker 4: be incredible.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Another great thing you said was just kind of how
- 20:03Speaker 5: people play on BGA, and you know, it's a lot
- 20:06Speaker 5: quicker and I think there is a different mentality on
- 20:10Speaker 5: BGA right now. So I'm kind of interested when we
- 20:15Speaker 5: get to go to more in person tournaments how we
- 20:18Speaker 5: see the play being a little different. I will I
- 20:22Speaker 5: get my ass kicked repeatedly an arena, but I do
- 20:25Speaker 5: find in person.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it's some of that too. People perform differently when
- 20:30Speaker 4: they're in front of other people, just period, like any
- 20:32Speaker 4: game I've ever played. Ever, there's a difference between how
- 20:38Speaker 4: people do in a digital environment where they're not like
- 20:41Speaker 4: face to face looking at somebody and interacting with them,
- 20:44Speaker 4: which sounds silly, right, like the cards don't change, the
- 20:47Speaker 4: decks don't change, But there is that element of I
- 20:55Speaker 4: don't want to say, reading a person right because like
- 20:56Speaker 4: in these kinds of games, they're going to make the
- 20:58Speaker 4: decision they're going to make, but a little bit right,
- 21:02Speaker 4: like when they're sitting on that big hand and you
- 21:04Speaker 4: can kind of see him over there like okay, he
- 21:07Speaker 4: he definitely has the charge and he's waiting to play it.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna let him have this one. I'm gonna come
- 21:12Speaker 4: in next turn. Like there's there's a little bit of
- 21:16Speaker 4: that to contend with. I will say, Uh, playing Into
- 21:20Speaker 4: the Disease live and in person, the speed of play
- 21:25Speaker 4: not much different versus on on BGA. They they're moving.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I yeah, well, i I'm gonna get there I'm eventually right,
- 21:38Speaker 4: that's what they say.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it does take. I mean it takes lots of gameplay.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a little bit of not advice,
- 21:49Speaker 1: but a little a little light at the end of
- 21:51Speaker 1: the tunnel. There's a player that I've played with for many, many,
- 21:56Speaker 1: many years, about five of them now, talking about a
- 22:00Speaker 1: guy who is at the bottom end of every bracket,
- 22:04Speaker 1: couldn't figure out why things weren't quite going his way
- 22:09Speaker 1: a lot of the time. And he's the reason Arkhan's
- 22:15Speaker 1: corner exists. He's gonna flat out and say it, Hi Jr.
- 22:21Speaker 1: He's not one of your top players, Like it took
- 22:24Speaker 1: five years, but he's there, right like, consistently finishing in
- 22:28Speaker 1: the top in top brackets, consistently getting to top eight.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's consistently getting there. This is not a magic game.
- 22:36Speaker 1: This is a very different game from a lot of
- 22:40Speaker 1: games out a lot of card games out there, right Like,
- 22:43Speaker 1: it's it's more of a race as opposed to a fight.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And there's a lot of people who want to do
- 22:49Speaker 1: the opposite because that's where magic has trained us to do.
- 22:52Speaker 4: That.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Keep you at it, you'll get in there, kid.
- 22:59Speaker 4: I like to hear ye, but what are we going
- 23:01Speaker 4: me feel?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Young?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Hey? You know, if I can give the pep talk,
- 23:05Speaker 1: you know, I'll give the pep talk. I'm a good
- 23:07Speaker 1: pep talker. That's about it. After this, and it's all
- 23:11Speaker 1: downhill from there on.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Usually I get pretty depressed when you talk, but that's
- 23:15Speaker 3: so usually.
- 23:17Speaker 2: This is a new age man.
- 23:20Speaker 3: This is the new Wookie.
- 23:21Speaker 4: This is the new.
- 23:23Speaker 1: The hip and the up and coming Wookie because not hip. Well,
- 23:29Speaker 1: you know, I'm hipper than most. I'm gonna say that
- 23:32Speaker 1: right off the bat.
- 23:33Speaker 4: There you go.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I know, hopefully on this show when I make my
- 23:38Speaker 1: pop culture references, someone will get it. I'm not holding
- 23:41Speaker 1: my breath, but there's the hope, you know.
- 23:45Speaker 3: See, this is what happens when you're in a loving
- 23:47Speaker 3: family and a loving relationship, right, Like I get appreciated
- 23:50Speaker 3: by the people.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and the chuckles they're real, I swear.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Anyway, I'm immediately remind I did of of the moment
- 24:01Speaker 4: that we had with Dexter two or three weeks ago
- 24:03Speaker 4: or whatever, with the whole Napoleon Dynamite conversation, when I
- 24:07Speaker 4: was I had to come face to face with my
- 24:10Speaker 4: mortality yet again, Like.
- 24:12Speaker 1: What the fact that he looks exactly like Napoleon Dynamite had.
- 24:17Speaker 4: He had no idea.
- 24:19Speaker 2: It was like, why do I look like this person?
- 24:22Speaker 5: It?
- 24:23Speaker 4: Listen, I'm not even like I'm not the guy that's
- 24:27Speaker 4: watched Napoleon Dynamite a hundred times. Right, I didn't know
- 24:29Speaker 4: what it is. I've seen it. I laughed a little bit,
- 24:31Speaker 4: but it's not like my movie. But I know what
- 24:34Speaker 4: it is, right, Yeah, having somebody say what is that? It?
- 24:40Speaker 4: It was, This is going to happen a lot. I
- 24:42Speaker 4: realized that, Like, it's part of getting older is you
- 24:43Speaker 4: have to get used to kids thinking that you're ridiculous.
- 24:45Speaker 4: You don't know anything, but like man.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Education and there are kids that don't know what the
- 24:51Speaker 2: matrix is? How does that feel?
- 24:55Speaker 3: Well? When you when you get to two Dexter's right
- 24:58Speaker 3: like and old, So like, I'm not letting it go.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Dex to Dexter will be a unit of measurement in
- 25:07Speaker 3: this channel period, Like.
- 25:10Speaker 5: All right, is more Dexters than freaking the other movie.
- 25:16Speaker 1: So yeah, that is kind of true. It depends on
- 25:20Speaker 1: which matrix you're going from. However, we need to get
- 25:23Speaker 1: to deck construction and here, what are we doing on
- 25:25Speaker 1: our top bottom heroes.
- 25:26Speaker 2: He so we're a little well, we had a lot
- 25:29Speaker 2: to talk about this really some cool stuff that happened
- 25:31Speaker 2: last week, So I was gonna do top and bottom
- 25:34Speaker 2: hero and each house. From my perspective, again, the game
- 25:36Speaker 2: is super new, so there are some things that can change.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And I'm not saying like I'm an throwy in this.
- 25:42Speaker 2: But first of all, this is one of the segments
- 25:45Speaker 2: we talked about we have each week. So for the future,
- 25:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna be talking about some stuff like picking your
- 25:52Speaker 2: hero initially when you're making you're making your deck, identifying
- 25:55Speaker 2: like their goals of that hero when you're making it.
- 25:59Speaker 2: We'll talk about the importance of just having removal in
- 26:02Speaker 2: your decks. I'll have a whole whole thing about commons
- 26:07Speaker 2: and rare choices, because a lot of what is going
- 26:09Speaker 2: to be in the deck building, like unique or uniques
- 26:11Speaker 2: if you find them great, if you don't have them,
- 26:13Speaker 2: you can still make a good deck without them, So
- 26:14Speaker 2: common and rare choice is basically the whole nuts of
- 26:18Speaker 2: deck construction. And then at some point I'm gonna get
- 26:21Speaker 2: into unique hunting and like what that means. After I
- 26:23Speaker 2: talked about the rest of that. But for today because
- 26:26Speaker 2: it's quick and easy, and it's kind of like a
- 26:29Speaker 2: like a out there information because we've seen a lot
- 26:33Speaker 2: of stuff happen in the in the Elo and the Arena.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna talk about what I view as the top
- 26:39Speaker 2: hero for each house right now. The first off, I'm
- 26:42Speaker 2: just going to now with a Axiom Brown. I've got
- 26:45Speaker 2: traced as their top hero in my opinion, my view,
- 26:48Speaker 2: by quite a bit, and I just really like.
- 26:51Speaker 1: How it's just really quick. For those people who don't
- 26:53Speaker 1: know how many heroes are in each faction.
- 26:55Speaker 2: There are three heroes right now and each faction, it
- 26:57Speaker 2: looks like we're just gonna have those three heroes for
- 27:00Speaker 2: quite a while. In the A M A. I think
- 27:02Speaker 2: they talked about that well, but we'll cover that in
- 27:04Speaker 2: a little bit. But right now they're eighteen totals heroes
- 27:06Speaker 2: three Perfection in Bravos Red Faction, I have my top hero.
- 27:14Speaker 2: It was actually pretty close for this one, but I
- 27:16Speaker 2: do have my top hero as Kojo. I just really
- 27:20Speaker 2: like the having the little fire dog every other turn,
- 27:24Speaker 2: especially if you.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Is it a We discussed that last week, and you
- 27:31Speaker 3: still a dog.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Is a fire dog. It's forever going to be a
- 27:36Speaker 2: fire dog.
- 27:38Speaker 3: It's it's a cat.
- 27:40Speaker 4: How do you mistake this.
- 27:41Speaker 3: For a dog? Again? Remember he talked last week about
- 27:44Speaker 3: the art from that sorry going to be a dog.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I'm actually watching the game with one in it right now,
- 27:54Speaker 2: watching belts Our play, But uh yeah, sure whatever whatever.
- 27:58Speaker 2: The fire dog on every other turn and and just
- 28:03Speaker 2: having that extra body on the board is actually way
- 28:05Speaker 2: more important to me than the boost effect that the
- 28:08Speaker 2: other hero that's actually pretty close too, so I've I've
- 28:12Speaker 2: leaned heavily into him being the top hero for Bravos.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Then we have Lyra Orlero, depending on how y'all want
- 28:18Speaker 2: to say that. From the Pink House, I have Finn
- 28:22Speaker 2: as their top hero by like a large ass gap.
- 28:25Speaker 2: It's like Fin's way up here. And then there's the
- 28:28Speaker 2: other two and one of those is actually the basement
- 28:31Speaker 2: hero of the whole set, which we'll talk about some
- 28:34Speaker 2: more the time. From Muna, I kind of the same thing,
- 28:38Speaker 2: but not with the same reward. I have Tasia as
- 28:41Speaker 2: the top hero, Like it's pretty much a guaranteed plus
- 28:45Speaker 2: every round, especially with the whole anchor thing there that's
- 28:49Speaker 2: just really really good in theory. Ortis I have the
- 28:54Speaker 2: top heroes. Who do you think I have a.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Top hero as a surely it'schol ring and toxic.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Good gil rang is the only way to No, it's
- 29:04Speaker 2: it's obviously or top Here for Blue is mares where
- 29:09Speaker 2: we can talk guys. So like, I'm torn because like
- 29:12Speaker 2: I personally have a Faunas as the top, but Lindue
- 29:18Speaker 2: has done pretty well, but I have no experience playing it.
- 29:23Speaker 2: What are your thoughts here? Because I have a Faunas
- 29:25Speaker 2: there that's the spell slinger. Lots of fun things you
- 29:28Speaker 2: can do with that.
- 29:29Speaker 3: But I'm gonna say plane with my reward deck. A
- 29:33Speaker 3: couple weeks ago, I ran into one or two really
- 29:35Speaker 3: good to Finance and Arina, and it like it smoked.
- 29:39Speaker 3: It beat the brakes off me. It beat me so bad,
- 29:42Speaker 3: like I was stunned, and its like I would put
- 29:45Speaker 3: that by if it's a good deck, right and obviously,
- 29:48Speaker 3: like we're talking just about like a good decks at
- 29:50Speaker 3: this point. I haven't seen too many Lindawe's or Lindue
- 29:53Speaker 3: or whatever, but like the finest I would definitely put that.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the sacrifice, So so I think it's something
- 30:01Speaker 4: that we should probably mention here. Somebody's gonna step on
- 30:05Speaker 4: me as soon as I say this, but I feel
- 30:08Speaker 4: like of the ISMIR heroes, because of their cardpool and
- 30:13Speaker 4: because of sort of how the tournament environment has been going,
- 30:20Speaker 4: they're the only faction in the game right now where
- 30:23Speaker 4: I think it might be a toss up between the
- 30:25Speaker 4: three of them.
- 30:26Speaker 2: That was going to be my final concrudle. I also
- 30:28Speaker 2: do top to bottom and like their differences, but I
- 30:31Speaker 2: don't want to spend all that time. But I do
- 30:32Speaker 2: think ISMIR has by far the best as far as
- 30:36Speaker 2: if you want to talk about card game design. Their
- 30:39Speaker 2: three heroes are all very uniquely different. They have very
- 30:42Speaker 2: different roles, and I think they are by far the
- 30:45Speaker 2: most competitively balanced among the three.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I think easily I can see a good player
- 30:54Speaker 4: on any of these giving people a hard time, like
- 30:58Speaker 4: the cardpool might not be yet to give them the
- 31:00Speaker 4: tools they really need to to cut through some of
- 31:04Speaker 4: what we're seeing like at the very tippy top, but
- 31:08Speaker 4: they're getting right up there next to it right like
- 31:10Speaker 4: there's not that much sacrifice support. And we had at
- 31:15Speaker 4: at the large French tournament. Yeah, we had a Lindo
- 31:18Speaker 4: Way make it all the way up there through a
- 31:19Speaker 4: field of killers, so like there's there's some sauce there
- 31:23Speaker 4: that that still needs explored.
- 31:26Speaker 5: And also that's a testament to the player that play
- 31:30Speaker 5: well and uniques.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Like that's one of the things. That's why I kind
- 31:33Speaker 2: of have unique hunting in the deck construction area that
- 31:35Speaker 2: we'll talk about eventually. The uniques made lind a way there,
- 31:40Speaker 2: so there are some decks by design that you are
- 31:43Speaker 2: going to need, like to actually hunting for the uniques
- 31:46Speaker 2: if you wanted to fire at the highest level. And
- 31:48Speaker 2: I think I think that's where I have Lindy right now.
- 31:51Speaker 2: But I still I personally lean toward a fauness. If
- 31:55Speaker 2: if Robin Hood wasn't a bureaucrat, I think a funness
- 31:58Speaker 2: would be a regular discussed top option. But you can't
- 32:03Speaker 2: spell slang when your stuff costs double because you're trying
- 32:06Speaker 2: to spend one.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Yeah, he gets hurt pretty hard in the current environment.
- 32:09Speaker 4: But I think I'm with you. I think if if
- 32:12Speaker 4: you forced me to choose one, it would be him today.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it is interesting, like not to steal later, We're
- 32:18Speaker 3: gonna discuss this more. But like from that big large
- 32:20Speaker 3: French tournament, the Afanas and Senka was the more favored
- 32:24Speaker 3: is mere hero, with Lindaway and Ma being at least
- 32:27Speaker 3: favored by like almost you know, third, So it kind
- 32:31Speaker 3: of goes with what we're thinking too as far as
- 32:33Speaker 3: like how many players play that.
- 32:35Speaker 4: So I think Lindy is also like when you talk
- 32:38Speaker 4: about a hard hero to play well, the resource decisions
- 32:42Speaker 4: to do yea hero justice are crazy.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Because it's super weird and like what you're doing you
- 32:47Speaker 2: have to really think about like what is on the
- 32:49Speaker 2: board and not on the board at different times. It's
- 32:51Speaker 2: it's an interesting hero to navigate.
- 32:54Speaker 5: I think Misha is underrated or undervalued by new players.
- 33:00Speaker 5: A lot of them when they first get into the
- 33:02Speaker 5: game don't really understand why you would want the after
- 33:06Speaker 5: you ability. But watching someone understand that when they get
- 33:10Speaker 5: to know their game more and use it often it
- 33:13Speaker 5: is it is very useful, especially because you don't have
- 33:18Speaker 5: to do it right away.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yep is another thing. One of my favorite Yeah, one
- 33:23Speaker 2: of my favorite things is the spycraft of their reserve.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Then next turn after you it's a heck, yeah, it's
- 33:30Speaker 2: such a prick move. It's like, Okay, then you're gonna
- 33:33Speaker 2: have no mana that I'm gonna take whatever lane I
- 33:35Speaker 2: want lakesha Is is pretty viable. Yeah, it's real close
- 33:39Speaker 2: to the other.
- 33:40Speaker 4: We fell all the way off down the thesmir rabbit
- 33:42Speaker 4: hole there.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Yeah, what's fun to talk about. And that's the main
- 33:46Speaker 2: reason why I would decid just to the top house.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So and then right now, I do have my with
- 33:51Speaker 2: our eighteen heroes. I do have a clear number one
- 33:54Speaker 2: hero at the moment in the curtain environment, which may change,
- 33:57Speaker 2: which we'll talk about shortly. I have that Ashuaru hands down.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Zach and me track every game we play as far
- 34:05Speaker 2: as our little tracking sheet. When we were playing against people.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Hold on, I have to I have to interrupt you
- 34:09Speaker 4: for just a second. I can't believe that you just
- 34:13Speaker 4: completely left Axiom off the.
- 34:16Speaker 3: List I started with He started with Axiom. No, I
- 34:24Speaker 3: think you just like blanked out there for about thirty seconds.
- 34:27Speaker 4: I even said brown like apologies for everything.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Then I'm cries glossed over when we heard fire Dog again.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I thought we started this conversation in red.
- 34:38Speaker 4: I'm the crazy one.
- 34:41Speaker 2: But yeah, Zach and meet track all of our games
- 34:43Speaker 2: in our little thing. It's super manual club style. We
- 34:48Speaker 2: type you plitter one, two, three, whatever, and at the
- 34:50Speaker 2: moment the only deck and I play all kinds of decks,
- 34:53Speaker 2: so I play all kinds of heroes, most of the
- 34:55Speaker 2: ones we named in the top I've played every single
- 34:57Speaker 2: one of those heroes. And the only only match up
- 35:01Speaker 2: we have where we have a like a losing win
- 35:04Speaker 2: percentage against is Warrow. We've only won thirty three percent
- 35:09Speaker 2: of our games against opposing Warrows. And that's me playing
- 35:12Speaker 2: all all of these decks. Everyone else we have a
- 35:15Speaker 2: positive win record, and there are many heroes that have
- 35:17Speaker 2: never beat us. That's a shout out to you, Gibbles
- 35:25Speaker 2: and probably whatever argin Venka.
- 35:30Speaker 4: There's a bunch.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Has beat the Orion.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Well that just Worrow traces least one game somewhere.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, that's fair.
- 35:40Speaker 2: But yes, yes, Warrow we have is the number one
- 35:44Speaker 2: hero in the current meadow, which is why our metal
- 35:46Speaker 2: laner is playing Warrow at the moment. So that wraps
- 35:49Speaker 2: up my decastract talk this week. I might put a
- 35:52Speaker 2: pull at some point as far as what we would
- 35:54Speaker 2: go into next week, but I think I'm leaning towards
- 35:57Speaker 2: like breaking down the commons and rares and like how
- 36:01Speaker 2: to go first building the deck and then just choosing
- 36:04Speaker 2: of action and looking at those.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Or you could do what I'm doing and net deck
- 36:08Speaker 1: people like this are a menace to decent society.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Are you ready for something new and high?
- 36:14Speaker 3: You're in that corner.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Here we go, So he phrased it, and he said,
- 36:23Speaker 4: you know the design team, and I believe he reiterated
- 36:26Speaker 4: that he felt that way as well. They called Robin
- 36:29Speaker 4: Hood a little bit of a design mistake. Specifically, didn't
- 36:34Speaker 4: say a complete and total failure of design, didn't say
- 36:36Speaker 4: any of the like lots of hyperbole he's been slung
- 36:39Speaker 4: around lately, But I'd say it was a little bit
- 36:41Speaker 4: of a failure in design. And I think specifically said
- 36:46Speaker 4: that they had been watching. They wanted to see what
- 36:49Speaker 4: was gonna happen in the big tournament so that they
- 36:50Speaker 4: could get some more sort of impressions as to what
- 36:53Speaker 4: was going on. But as you can imagine at an AMA,
- 36:57Speaker 4: immediately everybody asked, you know, what are you gonna do
- 36:59Speaker 4: about it?
- 37:00Speaker 3: What's to do this?
- 37:01Speaker 4: You can remove your crat or you can whatever. And
- 37:03Speaker 4: all that he would say is that he felt fairly
- 37:06Speaker 4: sure sure that the designers already had an idea of
- 37:10Speaker 4: what they might like to do, but that they still
- 37:12Speaker 4: weren't committed to anything, but that that wasn't a thing
- 37:17Speaker 4: that he could comment on because frankly, it just wasn't
- 37:20Speaker 4: in his.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Wheelhouse when they mentioned that they were to pay closer
- 37:23Speaker 2: to the big event that was about to come, which
- 37:25Speaker 2: is now the time of hearing this has already happened.
- 37:30Speaker 5: So no, yeah, And I think a good note about
- 37:36Speaker 5: what he said specifically is that robin Hood makes it
- 37:40Speaker 5: no fun or other players and and that is a
- 37:44Speaker 5: big issue. So I mean you, the AMA is still
- 37:47Speaker 5: on the altered YouTube if you want to go watch.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Please please do.
- 37:51Speaker 4: Don't take anything that we say is gospel question for yourself.
- 37:54Speaker 5: I'm in the camp that I think is going to
- 37:57Speaker 5: be changed, And that was as close to a confirmation
- 38:01Speaker 5: of changes coming to Robinhood as as you're going to
- 38:05Speaker 5: get they decide.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I am in the camp that they are going to
- 38:08Speaker 2: drop bureaucraft from ramin Hood. It's a digital it's a
- 38:12Speaker 2: digital game, so you can order new copies that won't
- 38:14Speaker 2: say that word, they can say some other word. I
- 38:19Speaker 2: think that is the cleanest change and would immediately make
- 38:24Speaker 2: it so they are much more evenly competitive fields out there,
- 38:28Speaker 2: and WAAW would still be a top deck. It would
- 38:31Speaker 2: still be in that number of top decks.
- 38:34Speaker 4: It just wouldn't feel a little bit.
- 38:36Speaker 2: It just wouldn't be auto beating traced.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Like I.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Don't I don't think, I feel I'm not even willing
- 38:46Speaker 4: to venture a guess as to what they are going
- 38:48Speaker 4: to do because, frankly, like we're in uncharted territory in
- 38:50Speaker 4: terms of what their what their powers are here, there's
- 38:55Speaker 4: just a lot of flexibility with how they could approach
- 38:57Speaker 4: a change here. One thing that we've seen a lot
- 39:02Speaker 4: is people speculating like, oh, well, we know, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 4: the next set's coming in January, maybe there's something in there,
- 39:08Speaker 4: And I just I want to say it again, that
- 39:11Speaker 4: set was already designed, complete and like going through final
- 39:17Speaker 4: checklist items so that it could be printed and do
- 39:18Speaker 4: everything that it needs to do well before. I think
- 39:22Speaker 4: they were fully aware of how yeah large the issue.
- 39:26Speaker 4: There's nothing in it that's going to solve this prop
- 39:29Speaker 4: I think the.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Whole figital part actually makes it much easier to change
- 39:33Speaker 2: and address a errata more than any other game that's
- 39:35Speaker 2: ever existed, because like bga's cards, the cards in your
- 39:40Speaker 2: deck manager and everything that you order the print off
- 39:43Speaker 2: to demand, which we all hope out to be soon
- 39:46Speaker 2: ish can immediately have the changes there, right, like.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and yeah, So it's something big. I haven't seen
- 39:56Speaker 4: anybody talk about it, and it obviously it's it's it
- 39:59Speaker 4: can be. How do I phrase this? There is a
- 40:02Speaker 4: card game that exists, and I don't want to go
- 40:05Speaker 4: like people feel strongly about it, So I don't want
- 40:07Speaker 4: to go like too off the deep end on it
- 40:08Speaker 4: or anything. But one of the really cool things that
- 40:11Speaker 4: I think that they did that I had never seen
- 40:13Speaker 4: in a card game before is that when they hit
- 40:17Speaker 4: a couple of unhealthy metas an experiment that they decided
- 40:21Speaker 4: to do to try to fix it to like basically
- 40:23Speaker 4: just increase representation, right yeah, they released a digital only
- 40:29Speaker 4: card that all of their players could print and proxy
- 40:34Speaker 4: in legal tournament decklists that directly addressed whatever the meta
- 40:40Speaker 4: issue was. So they gave themselves the ability to insert
- 40:45Speaker 4: single like yeah, one to five cards whatever that they
- 40:49Speaker 4: could give access to all their players that they then
- 40:52Speaker 4: allowed them to proxy and bring two events to try
- 40:55Speaker 4: to like increase health and it worked. To the extent
- 40:59Speaker 4: of it worked can be debated, I guess, but it
- 41:01Speaker 4: worked representation increased altered, in my opinion, is an environment
- 41:08Speaker 4: where they could nail that right as soon as print
- 41:14Speaker 4: and play exists. I don't think they're ever going to
- 41:19Speaker 4: allow proxies at tournaments because there's a slippery slope with
- 41:22Speaker 4: how the rest of the game works. But whatever, the
- 41:24Speaker 4: ability to create a single card here or there and
- 41:28Speaker 4: inject it into live play is so much easier for
- 41:33Speaker 4: them than for anybody else that's on the market. Well
- 41:35Speaker 4: they do it. I don't know. There's only one card
- 41:37Speaker 4: game in existence that I've ever heard about doing it,
- 41:39Speaker 4: so probably not. But it's a thing they could do
- 41:42Speaker 4: that other people can't, and I think that's awesome.
- 41:45Speaker 2: They have a lot of options that no one else
- 41:47Speaker 2: has ever had.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Yeah, so wait for the announcement. Something will be coming.
- 41:52Speaker 5: I'm sure the AMA. I guess there was more to
- 41:57Speaker 5: the AMA than just the Robin hood. I'll try to
- 42:00Speaker 5: just quickly come off the top with what I remember.
- 42:04Speaker 5: They will be a unpack so unplugged. I tried to
- 42:07Speaker 5: get some in fought of Loki about what the events
- 42:12Speaker 5: would be, and he's very good at being like his namesake,
- 42:19Speaker 5: just confirmed that it'll be a lot of fun. No
- 42:22Speaker 5: word on what kind of events, but the Altar team
- 42:26Speaker 5: usually does something really unique and awesome. At the Angers
- 42:33Speaker 5: or Angers they were doing or Ludo Trotter wherever it was,
- 42:36Speaker 5: they were doing Boss Battle. I know they're doing that
- 42:40Speaker 5: tomorrow at the GG tournament. They're doing the Boss Battle
- 42:48Speaker 5: and then some other stuff. Loki's favorite card from the
- 42:52Speaker 5: new set was the Ice Queen, which isn't a card
- 42:56Speaker 5: that's revealed, but that's all the information they would give me.
- 43:00Speaker 2: And I knew Elsa was going to be in this set.
- 43:05Speaker 5: I gotta have Elsa Ogre. Was there anything else? I
- 43:09Speaker 5: mean a lot of it was just stuff that I
- 43:11Speaker 5: kind of already knew and is kind of already out there,
- 43:14Speaker 5: So I'm not sure.
- 43:16Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of the conversation was dominated
- 43:19Speaker 4: by war and Robin Hood talk, big tournament talk, talking
- 43:27Speaker 4: about it's sort of actually, I'm about to say this,
- 43:32Speaker 4: I can't remember the new set was already announced before them, right,
- 43:36Speaker 4: like they specifically discussed Yeah, because milk kept being discussed,
- 43:40Speaker 4: so some of that was talked about I And that's
- 43:44Speaker 4: kind of it.
- 43:45Speaker 5: Like there were some technical issues, so it kind of
- 43:48Speaker 5: like it dropped out in the middle.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Yeah, So if you're if you're looking for it, it's
- 43:53Speaker 5: broken into t on their YouTube, but you can go
- 43:55Speaker 5: watch it. It's super quick watch. You'll learn some good stuff.
- 44:00Speaker 5: As for the tournament, I was just gonna read real
- 44:05Speaker 5: quick the breakdown and the interesting part to me, and
- 44:09Speaker 5: then Opequally, Zach and Ze talk about the actual nerdy
- 44:15Speaker 5: stuff about that because I'm not as smart with meta
- 44:17Speaker 5: as then the uh graft that they put out and
- 44:24Speaker 5: the tournament breakdown on the alter dot gg website is amazing.
- 44:29Speaker 5: The really big takeaway for me as a Muna player
- 44:32Speaker 5: was the fact that Asia was the most played hero
- 44:38Speaker 5: in the entire tournament at eighteen point six percent, but
- 44:44Speaker 5: when you scroll down to the top one twenty eight,
- 44:48Speaker 5: she drops down to nine point four percent in the
- 44:52Speaker 5: top one twenty eight. And to give you perspective, overall,
- 44:58Speaker 5: Mario and Mac were seven point top one twenty eight. Uh,
- 45:04Speaker 5: they jump up to eighteen point eight percent, Sigismark jumps
- 45:09Speaker 5: up to thirty percent, and then there's some other stuff
- 45:12Speaker 5: in there that you can see.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Uh.
- 45:14Speaker 5: But yeah, the the main story was the final was
- 45:18Speaker 5: Waru versus Warriu and the top had eight waus out
- 45:26Speaker 5: of sixteen. Is that correct, Yes, So what what what
- 45:33Speaker 5: are your what are your thoughts? One thing I will
- 45:36Speaker 5: say that coming from a competitive like video game world, personally,
- 45:44Speaker 5: different countries usually play games differently, and I don't know
- 45:49Speaker 5: if that's the same with pcgs. I'm a little newer
- 45:52Speaker 5: in the competitive side of that, but I'm wondering if
- 45:56Speaker 5: there will be a different meta that will start to
- 45:59Speaker 5: shape up here in North America compared to what we
- 46:04Speaker 5: just saw in France.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Almost assuredly, well yeah, you guys, there'll be more wars here.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Oh oh no, real quick before we roll into Warutown.
- 46:17Speaker 4: From like our number of people, I do think we should.
- 46:20Speaker 4: It bears discussing that, like it surprised the heck out
- 46:24Speaker 4: of me. Tasha had nearly twenty percent of the field
- 46:28Speaker 4: and had zero conversion into the top sixteen team.
- 46:32Speaker 2: That didn't surprise me, but that was from personal experience.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Yep.
- 46:37Speaker 5: The highest Muna placed and I think it was it
- 46:41Speaker 5: written or was it Tasia was thirty third. That was
- 46:44Speaker 5: the highest unless that was Bravos, but.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Thirty third, so they broke into the top thirty six,
- 46:50Speaker 4: but like.
- 46:52Speaker 5: It was the lowest place.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Even the top twenty eight is low. Like there was
- 46:59Speaker 2: only nine percent of the h What add this together,
- 47:03Speaker 2: it's ten point two percent Green in the top one
- 47:07Speaker 2: twenty eight out of coming in in twenty percent, So
- 47:10Speaker 2: half of them were straight up eliminated before the dowe
- 47:13Speaker 2: to twenty eight. Cut.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Yep, that's crazy, I mean because I've obviously like it
- 47:20Speaker 4: is a little bit more of a inconsistent deck. But
- 47:25Speaker 4: I have played some scary anchor decks from French players
- 47:30Speaker 4: like n BGA before I like tanked my my elite
- 47:36Speaker 4: rating and fell way down because.
- 47:38Speaker 5: You don't play Ortis, so they're scary to you.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Well, like on the flip side of this, if you're
- 47:43Speaker 2: gonna talk to numbers of like conversion, right, like Ortis
- 47:46Speaker 2: as a house Blue Blue entered at twenty six point
- 47:50Speaker 2: three percent of the tournament. And again, this tournament had
- 47:53Speaker 2: a thousand players. I know some of our old game
- 47:57Speaker 2: folks will be listening to the one thousand players against this.
- 48:03Speaker 2: What started as a pop up event in France grew
- 48:06Speaker 2: to it to be one thousand people. But so Ortis
- 48:10Speaker 2: has the twenty six percent entering the tournament top twenty
- 48:14Speaker 2: eight if I add all this stuff up, was fifty
- 48:17Speaker 2: percent Ortis. So I'll say, when we're just twenty six
- 48:22Speaker 2: percent of the total entering fifty percent of the top
- 48:25Speaker 2: twenty eight, that is insane conversion ratio. And then half
- 48:32Speaker 2: well there eight Waru was in the top eight, and
- 48:35Speaker 2: then there was one city I think there was no
- 48:39Speaker 2: gold ring. Yeah, two two Sigies, So ten out of
- 48:43Speaker 2: sixteen of the top sixteen were also ortis. Ortis stood
- 48:50Speaker 2: up in a big way the I when you're saying
- 48:53Speaker 2: like a difference between like North American style versus like Europe,
- 48:58Speaker 2: I think the exact same thing would kind of happen.
- 49:02Speaker 2: It's just just in the US players, the constructor's more
- 49:06Speaker 2: more meta driven, right, So I actually going into this
- 49:10Speaker 2: event from a person spectator, I was expecting to see
- 49:14Speaker 2: way more WAU into the event initially than did because
- 49:20Speaker 2: if this was like like in US card gaming, it's
- 49:23Speaker 2: pretty much the standard for all constructed games. So like
- 49:27Speaker 2: there's a whole bunch of people that are chasing the
- 49:28Speaker 2: actual meta. Someone is chasing whatever they think beats that,
- 49:32Speaker 2: and then everyone else is playing for fun, and that's
- 49:34Speaker 2: normally like twenty most Yeah, I.
- 49:38Speaker 5: Think in North America, though, we're gonna see a underdog.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Maybe in FEN, I think we have a lot.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Of FEN players, a lot of people who love Fenn well,
- 49:51Speaker 2: and that's the that's the thing that that's the antimate
- 49:54Speaker 2: I was talking about. So like I would expect like
- 49:56Speaker 2: these numbers to kind of be like crazy switch, like
- 49:59Speaker 2: if this was a US event hitting in one thousand,
- 50:02Speaker 2: like I think the Waru and Mac percentage would be
- 50:04Speaker 2: twenty percent and the Tasia would be seven versus like
- 50:08Speaker 2: what it is here.
- 50:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to talk again and we'll see how
- 50:13Speaker 1: this goes. Like my internet kind of just took a dive,
- 50:16Speaker 1: but I got most of what we recorded or what
- 50:19Speaker 1: you guys recorded, so hopefully comes out. I'll do a
- 50:22Speaker 1: little I'll do a little magic, and we'll see what happens.
- 50:24Speaker 1: But typically, so I've played card games a long, long,
- 50:28Speaker 1: long and long, long, long long long time, right Like
- 50:32Speaker 1: I'm a card game player. I started way back when
- 50:36Speaker 1: with Star Wars CCG. If any of you guys remember
- 50:39Speaker 1: that most of you should have some behind me right now,
- 50:43Speaker 1: that's that's where I started. I think I was like
- 50:47Speaker 1: seven or eight years old. Typically, what happens between so Europe,
- 50:53Speaker 1: and don't take this the wrong way. If there's out
- 50:55Speaker 1: of Europeans out there. I know there's quite a number
- 50:57Speaker 1: of you.
- 50:58Speaker 2: There's plenty.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Up tends to be more fun driven, where the US
- 51:05Speaker 1: tends to be more meta and cutthroat.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Driven.
- 51:13Speaker 1: So if you're telling me Waru's at the top of
- 51:16Speaker 1: the top of the top, right like he's he's he's
- 51:19Speaker 1: at the top of the hill, you're going to see
- 51:21Speaker 1: a bucket of it, yep. Because people are gonna come
- 51:25Speaker 1: there and they're gonna come to win name They're not
- 51:27Speaker 1: coming to have a good time and maybe go have
- 51:30Speaker 1: some beers afterwards they're there.
- 51:32Speaker 2: I disagree with part of that. I think there's just
- 51:35Speaker 2: more people that tie having a good time with winning
- 51:39Speaker 2: a bunch of games in in our culture here.
- 51:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's kind that Yeah makes sense, and
- 51:47Speaker 5: it does really. I was at the Star Wars PQ
- 51:51Speaker 5: and it was a ton of a ton of meta
- 51:54Speaker 5: in the in the top, So I mean those those
- 51:57Speaker 5: people were there to win and we're very serious.
- 52:01Speaker 2: So that checks out. Yeah, well, and that's what we saw.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Key Ford just you can't make theory decks and keyboards,
- 52:08Speaker 2: but the key Ford was the same kind of thing,
- 52:09Speaker 2: like whatever was winning the most games, that's the type
- 52:12Speaker 2: of decks you saw at every event, you just didn't
- 52:16Speaker 2: get to make your deck.
- 52:21Speaker 4: One thing that I think is very interesting about that,
- 52:23Speaker 4: right up until now, we haven't really seen a card
- 52:28Speaker 4: game a lot of like the when we look at
- 52:30Speaker 4: like how a European meta, an Asian meta, the US
- 52:34Speaker 4: meta for these different card games across history. Most of
- 52:38Speaker 4: the time, in my experience, these card games are US
- 52:42Speaker 4: exports or they're Asian exports.
- 52:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 52:48Speaker 4: I can't recall a huge European TCG ever, I'm sure
- 52:55Speaker 4: there is one. It's just not one. There's not something
- 52:57Speaker 4: that's come across my desk right in sane. I wonder
- 53:00Speaker 4: if we're going to see because this game is sort
- 53:05Speaker 4: of like their home field and so much of the
- 53:10Speaker 4: design team is from over there. I wonder if we're
- 53:14Speaker 4: going to see maybe a little bit of a different
- 53:19Speaker 4: a different level of interaction, like what you guys are
- 53:22Speaker 4: saying about how cutthroat the US meta is versus the
- 53:27Speaker 4: European meta. I got a quick answer for you. You ready, Yeah, no, Well, maybe.
- 53:35Speaker 1: The unfortunate part is we're Americans. We take over everything,
- 53:40Speaker 1: Oh my god, we just do when it comes to
- 53:44Speaker 1: compet When it comes to competition, American number one.
- 53:49Speaker 2: So at least we think we are.
- 53:52Speaker 1: I mean, you're gonna whatever whatever the meta this will be.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And if it's anything the size of what it was France,
- 54:01Speaker 1: right yeah, if it's anything of that side, but.
- 54:04Speaker 4: That all of like European engagement is huge, So I
- 54:08Speaker 4: think it started in France, but it's kind of a
- 54:10Speaker 4: wildfire over there. Yeah.
- 54:13Speaker 5: Yeah, So, uh, there is one American player in the
- 54:18Speaker 5: top ten in board game Arena, so right now America
- 54:23Speaker 5: is doing really bad.
- 54:26Speaker 4: As Wookie was saying that, in my head, I was thinking, like,
- 54:29Speaker 4: we need to put this man in front of Sylvain.
- 54:33Speaker 5: Sylvain's third. It's actually a German, but I've never seen
- 54:40Speaker 5: him play.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Hold about a second, Hold, say, we do got to
- 54:43Speaker 3: give a shout out today. Right now, the number one
- 54:46Speaker 3: right in the world is maybe let's go Pluka.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Yeah, he's number one right now as we're talking.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Yep, very nice.
- 54:55Speaker 5: Luca with nine nine points ahead of the Germans.
- 54:59Speaker 4: So I guess I guess he's what he's doing is
- 55:02Speaker 4: is he heard will be talking and he instantly cued
- 55:04Speaker 4: up like eight arena games so.
- 55:06Speaker 3: That he can Yeah, he's playing on his computer on
- 55:09Speaker 3: three different screens. He's got three different cell phones. Like
- 55:11Speaker 3: he's beaten everybody with war whatever whatever it takes.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Right, he's like twenty like a secret war games going
- 55:20Speaker 2: right now.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 55:21Speaker 5: I managed to queue up against someone with a very
- 55:25Speaker 5: similar name, just spelled differently.
- 55:28Speaker 4: It was a very good game.
- 55:29Speaker 5: I will just say they were not playing WARO. But
- 55:32Speaker 5: I still lost.
- 55:33Speaker 4: But it was a good game, was it?
- 55:35Speaker 2: P l O. Okay, I think that's still him.
- 55:38Speaker 5: I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying, Okay, I had
- 55:42Speaker 5: a good game with someone.
- 55:43Speaker 1: That's the account, that's the test.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Account, that's his. Yeah, that's his not playing war turns
- 55:49Speaker 4: out that somebody that's that's really good is still gonna
- 55:52Speaker 4: beat you, whether they're on the top minute or not.
- 55:58Speaker 5: It was still horridois mind you? Yeah?
- 56:02Speaker 3: All right.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Number one, are we ready to move into Are we
- 56:06Speaker 1: in the marketplace?
- 56:09Speaker 3: Oh?
- 56:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's gonna be real quick. So in the future
- 56:12Speaker 2: we do have someone that'll be doing this segment, so
- 56:14Speaker 2: we talk a little bit more about things you can
- 56:16Speaker 2: do where you can buy stuff. So this will be
- 56:19Speaker 2: that section of our cast. But today we're going to
- 56:22Speaker 2: introduce the quick search for just product costs, so people
- 56:26Speaker 2: know are aware, and we're going to see what an
- 56:30Speaker 2: altered display is. I'm literally typing this right now, are
- 56:34Speaker 2: so that it's just live in well live ish GCG.
- 56:39Speaker 2: We're going to see how much they costs. I'm like
- 56:42Speaker 2: low end to high end. So right now, if I
- 56:44Speaker 2: wanted to buy a Kickstarter box, the prices ranged from
- 56:50Speaker 2: one fifty two to roughly two fifty. So that's what
- 56:54Speaker 2: we're seeing. A week ago, it was hard to get
- 56:59Speaker 2: them the one fifty, but there's a couple of places
- 57:01Speaker 2: that are selling them on sale and that's for us shipping.
- 57:07Speaker 2: If I wanted a retail box right now, I'm seeing
- 57:10Speaker 2: a range of eighty five to ninety four. Eighty five, Yeah,
- 57:17Speaker 2: I actually don't know. The whole point of this is
- 57:20Speaker 2: that you can search this.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Is that eighty five from Game Gamers.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Guild YEP Gamers Guild, and I believe that is also
- 57:28Speaker 2: probably free shipping.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Which which is crazy because ASMO day as MO days
- 57:33Speaker 3: beyond the gates, you know, non Kickstarter booster displays are
- 57:36Speaker 3: one right now, ye.
- 57:39Speaker 2: So the retail is somewhere between eighty Oh wait a.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Second, I think I may be crazy, but I think
- 57:48Speaker 4: I remember reading somewhere that they were offering discounts at
- 57:51Speaker 4: the moment because they're getting they're trying to get lots
- 57:54Speaker 4: and lots of product out for the tournament that they've
- 57:57Speaker 4: got going on or heading that direction. Right This is
- 57:59Speaker 4: the same company product that is.
- 58:03Speaker 1: You can buy them from Walmart for ninety four bucks.
- 58:06Speaker 4: Yep, I does Walmart have altered product?
- 58:10Speaker 2: Walmart allow this game is on fire.
- 58:13Speaker 1: We Walmart also allows third party sellers on their website,
- 58:17Speaker 1: Like you can't go to Walmart and pick up a
- 58:19Speaker 1: box altered. It's just like Amazon. I'll allow a third party.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Now.
- 58:23Speaker 4: You know, it takes your chances, but you know, today
- 58:28Speaker 4: I learned a thing.
- 58:29Speaker 2: But yeah, that is the market pulse of a sealed
- 58:32Speaker 2: product right now. So we're we're at a pretty good,
- 58:35Speaker 2: healthy range as far as getting things at a pretty
- 58:37Speaker 2: good entry price. I do think most of these prices
- 58:41Speaker 2: are going to go up at some point, especially for
- 58:43Speaker 2: the Kickstarter because the product there is going to start
- 58:45Speaker 2: to try up. A week ago, it was at like
- 58:47Speaker 2: two twenty two thirty, but now we're seeing some accessible ones.
- 58:52Speaker 2: So if you want some Kickstarter product, I would buy
- 58:54Speaker 2: those one fifty two pretty fast. That's a really good price.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Technically, and we already know that, like our European friends
- 59:02Speaker 4: are suffering, like.
- 59:04Speaker 2: They are buying if you can somehow ship it is
- 59:07Speaker 2: super expensive to ship to Europe, but if you can
- 59:10Speaker 2: somehow get it there, they are paying like two thirty
- 59:13Speaker 2: euro per box of Kickstarter products because they're out of everything.
- 59:16Speaker 3: That was one of the things they discussed in AMA
- 59:19Speaker 3: was that they were at least Asmodet was sold out
- 59:22Speaker 3: in France, Spain and another third country.
- 59:25Speaker 1: I think so shocker asbade Under ordered on something weird.
- 59:31Speaker 2: But we still got it here though, and that is
- 59:34Speaker 2: our market polls.
- 59:37Speaker 1: All right, Moving into events. What can I play this week?
- 59:43Speaker 1: I got I got my I got my cart up right,
- 59:45Speaker 1: I'm ready to hit by as soon as I talk
- 59:47Speaker 1: to you guys. What can I play?
- 59:48Speaker 5: In? So every Tuesday for the next couple of weeks
- 59:54Speaker 5: we have the Tuesday ACE Tournament going on. You can
- 59:59Speaker 5: hop in in pop out, you get points based on
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: just playing and for winning, and then in the fifth
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: week we're going to have a championship. We do have
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: prizing and last week I introduced the Bonus Star and
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: it's a riff off of you know, Mario Party, just
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: giving out a random prize for something stupid. The first
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: week was actually pretty cool. It was least used hero
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: that placed the highest.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: You did.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: You did work to find that information too, so good time, Bonya.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so I have the next event decided. I won't
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: tell you what it is because I don't want you
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: to seek it out, but we will have that. And
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: then right after is a Wall which is on Wednesdays,
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: hosted by a signmon over in the A Wall server.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: And we have a lot of life local events here
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: in Texas. The Altered Corner hosts a bunch of metro
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: areas for Texas, and if you join the discord and
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: look in the pins, we collect all of them. I
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: think we've got a good collection in just about every
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: major metro. DFW's getting up to like three or four
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: stores running events every week. I know you guys in
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: Houston are getting things really going than shout out Antonio. Yeah,
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: oh yeah. Agis as well is a generous sponsor and
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: provider of prizing for the ACE tournament and also helping
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: with the local scene. And then in Austin and San
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: Antonio there are a couple things as well. So if
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: you want more information on that, join the discord then
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: before we talk the results real quick of ACE and
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: a Wall. I know people are looking for tournaments at
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: different times or different kinds of tournaments. If there is
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: a type of tournament you're interested in, just let me
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: know what and when and I can look at getting
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: set up. We tried to do a kind of wacky
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: one off with no artis and just not enough people
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: signed up. But I think in the future it would
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: be cool to do something off of the norm and
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: just kind of see how weird we can get. So
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: let me know what you want to see. And Zach
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: are you are you ready to.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: What do you think discuss the metes or well, what
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: do you what do you so?
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: I think, oh, we don't have enough data yet from ACE,
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: but it is already looking interesting. So I'm really excited
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: on how it's going to start to look next week.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: But the winners for ACE this previous week, Sylvan was first,
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: Luca was second, and then for a Wall Uh, Pluca
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: took the first in a Waru verse fin match against Jackman.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: I feel like we're hearing that Pluca name quite a bit.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Yeah, when you're when you're top of the leader board,
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: you know, for.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Second place. You're letting me go.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: First.
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: The second and ACE, which was a match I was
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: about to say I watched that game. He played out
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: of his mind. That was just that those were two
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: titans clashing right.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: There taking second place.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Though I had a shot, I was top four, I
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: couldn't finish.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Wait a streak about has the streak continued over and altered?
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Shut up?
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: There? There are analytics that Zach put together there and
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: everyone can see them if you guys want to take
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: a look at the ACE analytics. I did not paste
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: the aall ones in, but those exist out there if
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: you want to look up the all ones for anyone listening.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: Have we mentioned before we leave the event section? We
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: granted quite a bit about how awesome we all find
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: BGA last week, but I can't remember if we talked
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: about the tournament finder specifically mention it. Okay, So that's
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: if you're out there and you want to play in
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: a tournament and your stores haven't started up and everything else,
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: go to BGA, scroll down and there's just a feed
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: of tournaments that are that people are running all the
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: time that you can just register for. You just hop
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: in and then you can do these things that we're
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: talking about with ace and with a wall. It's not
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: just us, right, Like, there are so many tournaments out
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: there being run that you can just hop into in
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: whatever time slot we're for you, on whatever day, and
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: if if there isn't one yet, make one people will
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: You'll have random people join, It'll be fine.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: There's actually one on October twenty sixth that already has
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: one hundred and forty five people.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Shuah good wait.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: Time allotted to each player seven days.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: It's probably it's probably an a tournament.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: It's not real time. It's turn based.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: Yea, oh, that's weird for a tournament. I was gonna say,
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: should we jump in.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: I'm not much of an a sync player myself, but
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: I do think it's awesome that that is a thing
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: that you can do. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: I don't I don't really play anything any secretase. I
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: know it's on BGA and it's great and all that,
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: but not.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: My not my bad. Five days later you finish one
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: match that yeah, yeah, but I think it's warm. You
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: think about like how long that would feel.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: I tried to do that in a Game of Thrones
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: board game a long time ago.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: I was like, nah, I can't.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: This is rough.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: It's not for you.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: No, no, like because by the time that your turn again,
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: you're like, basically you have to dissect a board entirely
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: from new every time because it's a long time, which
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: that would be easy and altered of course, because it's
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: just just a glance at the Tug of War match,
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: You're like, oh, I need to play this card, but
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: well not play this card as we discussed earlier.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Circle. Yeah, you mentioned Tug of War two. I think
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: that's going to stick with you.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Mm hm Oh it's good. It's good analogy, very spot off.
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: Yeah, the stats, was there anything that jumped out to you,
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: Zach that you wanted to mention you took You took
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: the time to set it all up today and make
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: some colorful I have not.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Shared and those those colors came automatic with Google shades,
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: so I didn't do anything with that. But uh, I
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: mean nothing, nothing overly surprising, right, like the at least
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: as far as like our thirty eight competitors that actually
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: showed up. You know, we had top players or excuse me,
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: top showing Nope, there's like, yes, there's some super players though.
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: I mean yeah, no, I mean there are, Well, No,
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: there's something super surprising because we literally just talked about
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: the North American meta and there are some players in
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: here that weren't North American.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: There were a few that weren't most of them are though,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: and there are only four Waru players in these thirty eight.
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: Like that's made top eight too.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is a yeah that's true. Top eight.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: So our top eight was two Fenn, one Kojo one,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: the Venka somehow two Sig and to Warrow. So like
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: WAA had a fifty conversion, which is still bunkers right,
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Like that's crazy, but yeah, that is pretty interesting overall
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: technically Novenka had a fifty percent conversion, right too.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Yeah it's only two players, Yeah yeah, I.
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: Mean based on this and everything we've talked about at
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: the other tournaments, I think the ones to watch that
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: are going to start coming up are Kojo and Fenn.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: And I mean we thought it was going to be Traced,
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: but I I don't know this week that up.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: In the case, Trace struggles, so Trace cannot beat robin Hood,
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: like sleeping Robinhood is like I beat you Trace, go
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: go pay double Manna for all your cards, Like it sucks.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: I will say one thing that did, Like you were saying,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: like the North American meta, like if you look at
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: the faction breakdown, Muna only being at five point three
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: percent and then like ard Is being at twenty six,
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Like that is kind of what works in the twenty
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: six for Bravos, right, like it it's it definitely is
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: not is.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Still kind of.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: For sure struggling people. People really like Bravos and we've
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: we've heard like Material mentioned last week, he's got We
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: have a player in Texas that's really trying to push
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: Kojo and was able to climb pretty high up on
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: the leaderboard before, Like there was some some setbacks, but
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: I think it's a consistency problem. Like they have some
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: great tools, but they're more susceptible to disrupt everything, susceptible
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: to everything.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: I brought my Besierra deck and lost round one.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: So yeah, you just here right ten Bramos entered one
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: of them made top eight O progress.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: I made it past round one.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: That's good, right, yeah, Okay, that's three points, three points
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: One of the big big dogs stomped me out, though, Right,
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: who did I play? Did I play Sylvana? And I
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: played Pluka? I played somebody that just absolutely stomped a
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: mud hole in me.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Well, it happens, but you got redemption Day Tuesday. And again,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: like the you just creative company is sponsoring this for us.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: We have real prizing, the whole ding of it free.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: At the end of it, somebody's going to get what
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: is this top prize for winning everything is twelve retail
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: booster packs. Had four Kickstarter booster packs, all furnament you
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: didn't pay Jack for.
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: So yeah, I really like the tournament set up that
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: you came up with. Did you do You want to
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: explain that real quick, because I think it's super cool.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Yeah. So, basically, we found the single elimination that we
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: tested for season Day zero finishes at about an hour
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: a half two hours. This whole thing, every best of
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: one elimination finishes pretty quick. So what we're using that
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: is we're going to award the top two players of
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: the six pm Central time event. It caps out at
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: what do we put the cap at? Sixty four players?
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: I think yes, and the top two players will automatically
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: get an invite to the championship and the top player
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: gets a unique foiler for the weekly and the second
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: place gets a rare foiler and everyone else a cruise points.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: So if you show up and play at least game
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: one game, win or lose, you're gonna get two points
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: as far as your league score, and then you get
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: an additional point for every single win. You're a crew
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: no matter how far you go. So in this case,
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: even the winners, we're able to get points even though
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: they're already in the championship. I'll talk about why they
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: out at NW points later. So like Sylvain won, he
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: has eight points, Pluka came in second, Cluca has seven points,
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: and then I me and Evron came in third and
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: fourth or top four, we both have six points, so
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: technically we are the third and fourth players, but we
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: don't have an invite to the championship. We're gonna run
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: four of these, which means that eight people will be
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: in the tournament, which is gonna be a top sixteen event,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: and then there will obviously be eight spots, possibly less
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: if we get back to back winners. Those remaining spots
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: to fill the top sixteen will literally go in order
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: based on the top players based on their points from
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: accrewing each week. If there's some kind of tie, I
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: have some ways to break the tie breakers as far
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: as that goes. But that is how we'll fill that bracket.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: And then that Top sixteen week you'll get to play
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: for the for the top all the top eight will
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: get prizing. So as long as you win one game
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: that final Top sixteen event, you will all one match.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: You will then be in the prizing for the whole thing.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: And he just has helped us out with a whole box.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: I threw in some of the Kickstarter product that I
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: have that.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Zach and me have, and I think I just had
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: an epiphany. I want in on this. So here's here's
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: the Ogre price. I want to put a bounty down
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: to the player who slays the most war, right, whoever
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: you are, whoever has the most wins against war specifically,
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: can we get those numbers before I say this?
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: Okay, whoever says the.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Not easy and Zach can Cole will be doing this,
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: not me, but it is.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Why are you answering yes?
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Then?
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Because he's asking if it can be done.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: It's it's live and on air, so now we're trapped,
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: righty right.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: I will do it for you, Ogre.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: You are the best. Whoever slays the most war, I
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: am going to give you a WARU promo war promo.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Oh nice, there you go the war, you get their bounty,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: their head that it's.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Exactly right now, wins the most and if us base,
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: I'll ship it to you if you want. I have
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: sent one card to France in a regular postmark dope.
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: I'll do it for you if you win, if you
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: really want. But I'd prefer just digital, but you let
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: me know.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's with everything. Everything international I'm saying, is digital
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: unless you want to pay for the extensive amounts of
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: money that is the shipping to Europe.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: One good point on the tournament. As you mentioned, two
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: players have already been seeded into the championship. Unless I
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: am mistaken, they are more than welcome to keep playing
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: in Yes, yes, yes they can. I think that's good
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: for competitive growth and learning. If all of the top
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: players drop out every time, you're not gonna ever be
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: able to beat them.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: So yeah, well, and the final seeding will be based
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: on the score, so like if you are the if
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: you have the most points in the event and are
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: one of the top eight, you will be the number
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: one seed and you will, like any actual true tournament.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: You will be facing the number sixteen seed, which means
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: you should have some level of advantage there. That's a tournament,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: is what it is. I mean, got to beat the
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: people anyway. So if you come in at he's sixteen,
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: you're probably facing at this point syl Vader Pluka. So
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: good luck bringing it. Bring a war killer if that
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: is a thing. I guess it's just another war deck.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Bring your own war deck.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: Like I just bring the bigger Bozuka.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: I believe the old saying is if you can't beat
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: him and join them.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Ever, all right, is that gonna close us out for
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: the week?
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: We have? Well we have Zach? Oh? Yeah? Did you say?
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Is that or is that Zach?
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: No?
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: Is that Zach?
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: Hi?
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Zach?
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: How are you?
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Oh? I'm doing well? How about you?
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Did we miss Meta Lions this week?
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: My bad, Zach.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: Skip the well, I'll plush you had some some little
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: drop out with it.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I don't know that was weird. I think my internet
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: just went crazy. We're having some weird windstorms here in Wisconsin,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: so that always messes with my Internet from time to time,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: But go ahead, what's the metal line?
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: So the medal line that I'm going to discuss this
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: week is, of course Waru, because that is the meta
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: and that is what I'm playing right now. One of
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: my favorite favorite opening turns, either on the play or
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: off the play, it doesn't matter, is having Bounty Pule
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: Metal and Order's Attorney. So I'll explain those couple of things,
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: especially if you're new. Let's talk about some of those cards.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: So bout see it played against you. There's no way
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: guarantee this is the thing. Bountibule Metal two cost from
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: hand to costs from reserve. You're not likely going to
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: play from reserve because it's not going to go there
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: unless somebody does something to it. But it allows you
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: to line markets permanent. It is going to allow you
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: to exhaust it, and the next Bureaucrat that you played
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: during that turn costs one less. So a very good
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: thing to do is to start off with that. You're
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: likely going to be losing a lane your first tone.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: You're going to likely get to your first turn, yeah
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: with as played with Waru because of the second card
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: that you're probably gonna play, or the first depending on
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: what you're getting with your hand. In this case, we're
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: looking at the orders attorney the rare version, not the commons,
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: so two costs from hand to cost, from reserve to
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: power all the way down. And the nice thing about
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: the attorney is likely you're going to sleep it for
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: a couple of reasons I'll explain in a second. But
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: if the expedition fails to move forward during dusk, you
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: draw a card. Waru's ability, as you may or may
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: not know, is when you play a bureaucrat, which the
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: order'st attorney is, you can gain make it gain a sleep,
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: which doesn't count of statistics during the dusk when you
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: go to move when you compare. But that's not important
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: at this first turn. What's important is that you're going
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: to draw a card before your turn ends. Not only that,
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: but you have mount of a metal online for later terms.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: And so why is that good? Well, one thing we've
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: already discussed is draw potential in this game is huge. Right,
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: We've been over a few different uniques about the draw
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: power cards. But like the attorney getting getting a card
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: to draw by giving up the two lanes, you know
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: you're getting an extra you're getting one extra card that
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: your opponent likely didn't have number two. The second part
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: of war or excuse me, the first part of War's
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: ability is that noon if you control water Mere bureaucrats,
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: you create an or to recruit one one one soldier
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: in a target expedition. So not only did you get
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: double move that first turn, but you now have yourself
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: set up with one a unit on the board or
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: excuse me, a card on the board. That was a
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: very different game that I was thinking about. You have
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: a card on the board two to two, and you
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: get to place a one one one without having to
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: pay anything because of the last turn that you did,
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: and you have metaw online, so you can start discounting
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: all of your cards by one at least one, right,
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: you're probably going to get a second card. Yeah, well yes, yes,
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: a good chunk of your your all of your bureaucrats
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: that you play is so good the fact that it
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: gives you draw, it gives you presence on the board
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: for next turn, and it creates another. It basically allows
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: you to have three three three spread out either amongst
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: the two expeditions or on one starting off your turn
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: like that. It's really good and you can just go
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: from there, and that's why it is this week's Metal
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: line of the Week for sure.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: I do like all the explanation pretty solid.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: It's a good one. It ties into the why second altered.
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: It's like very nicely because it highlights all those things
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: about most decks are altered, not being able to build
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: board state in the same way that WAU is. But
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: here you've given an example of a card that's going
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: to give you a resource advantage over the other guy,
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: right and.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Set you up to start winning immediately.
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you're you're doing all of the things necessary, but
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: you're also doing the thing we talked about where like
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: you just drop the rope and step away for a turn.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, like.
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: Other I was going to say, do that mid game.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: There's there's entire turns of Wara will take in mid game, which,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: like you would expect to be a dangerous time to
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: get double pushed. But I have totally done it. I've
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: gone to where like I have six man available, and
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: literally everything I played, I slept and let them double
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: push and then I just crushed them because it's just crazy.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: It was definitely hard at first, like when you're thinking
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: about the game right, it's a race, as you described
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: it as a tug of war each ROUNDE and you're
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: giving up two spots that first round. It's hard to
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: kind of comprehend that at first, but when you realize
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: what it's doing for your later turns, you do make
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: that decision sometimes, especially playing Waru right like and other ones.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: As you were saying, Ogre, you have to know when
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: to allow that double move, when to contend, and when
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: to push, and that will get you either winning better
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: games or still stuck that run.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: So I guess Swallow here we should actually talk about
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: like what this means when you're playing against.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: Worrow, and see that's what it means.
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: There's a lot of choices that are made when you
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: get your clutch of six at the very beginning of
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: the game, and there's a lot of decks in this
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: game that will rely on certain setups, and then they
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: might see there's setups in their hand, and of course
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: they go for it. Playing against Worrow is a little
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: bit different, Like Warrow has to set up turn one.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: If they don't set up turn one, there's generally some
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: other reason for that. They just got a bad all whatever,
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: But they're looking to do not exactly what Zach just said,
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: but very similar in almost all cases. So you need
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: to take advantage of that off of your first opening hand.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: If you have two creatures, you can pay with three
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: or less a man out.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: You do need to do that.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Every single lane counts. If you are only one lane
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: pushing against war on your first turn, you are already
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: losing that game in what seemed like and that seemed
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: like a good turn for most I start, I play
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: my what you know, Moona plays their three mana druk
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: and they feel good about that turn one because that's
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: just what they do half the time. Like, that's not good,
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: Like you need to understand that against WARU, if you
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: did not double push them on turn one, you got
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: the only lane that was going to be easy for
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: You missed one of the rare opportunities that that was
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: gonna be easy for you for the rest of the
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: whole damn game.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna put it. It's gonna put you behind
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: for sure. Would you when you're like, oh, I'm already
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: ahead by one, Noah, you're already behind.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that point momentum is huge. War can they afford
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: to take those breaks? You can't when you're playing into
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: Waru every turn you have to be scrabbling because the
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: distance between Waru's expeditions is an illusion, It's true.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: Yeah, like turn three three, Day three, they could actually
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: be in their starting points and actually be set up
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: to absolutely crush you.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: Yeah, they're they're the I think there. They might be
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: the only deck in the format that that's like placing
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: that is legitimately playing the old school, like I have
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: to take time to build things up, and then once
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: I've hit that, like that critical mass, you can't stop
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: the snowball, Like, yeah, it's it's rough.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: So when what I'm saying is hard, like what I'm
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: saying does mean there are going to be scenarios where
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: you are you should be manna You're unique or possibly
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: manna some kind of landmark that you're normally relying on
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: to make sure that you can play a one and
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: a two, because ideally, like that your day two, you
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: also want to be playing a creature that can push
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: or at least effectively push with the creatures that are
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: sliding down to reserve. Like you need to be thinking
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: really really hard about what turn one and turn two
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: look like when you're facing Waru because in most games
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: you're not facing the tax hit on turn two. That's
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: like your best window to not be getting your ass kicked.
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: Plan those expeditions people, Yes, yes, win the taghre early.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: That way you at least have a chance to weather
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: the storm that is coming. They draw a lot. Robinhood
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: is coming. He is hunting your butt.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: It's a buocracy and paperwork man. You know it's coming
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: down the line, So just be prepared to be buried.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Is that the death and taxes? Yep, drummer like there
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: That's exactly what they do, and it's all because of
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Robin Hood.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, I mean still kind of outside looking
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: in for me. I sniff bands. I don't know about
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: you guys, but you know, I don't know what they've
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: said about how they feel about banning certain cards, but.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: I don't think I think what we said just that
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: earlier is going like that's that is my belief as
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: far as what's going to happen. I think that would
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: actually add a lot of parity to the current meta.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: I think Turbo would actually be traced a very viable
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: immediately because right now, like I tested around traced, it
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: is super fun to play. It's a really cool hero,
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: but it is unplayable into water.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: I think they're gonna I think they're gonna double down
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: and just put anchored on robin Hood just so it's
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: like that much more painful.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: So there's a whole lot of conversation about it. Who
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: knows what's going to happen. I will say that I
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: immediately become skeptical anybody says that they don't think a
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: card game should have bands ever, because I just think
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: that's impossible. Like people are valuable, and designers are people,
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: and that means you're going to get things that make
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: the game unhealthy. And I think that it's probably not
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: going to be banns this time around, because we're very
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: early and they're going to want to stretched as far
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: as they can.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: I think they should do everything in their power to
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: not ban a card like I believe that strongly. I
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: think there is a solution for the specific card.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I mean, especially in a game like this right where
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: you can very easily make a eratas right, like this
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: is so easy to erata at a card, change it
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: and then since it's print on demand, right, yep, you
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: can ship it out. Will be it will be what
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: you guys said, what December January.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think we have a date yet.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: I don't. I think they may. They mentioned they probably
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: still working on it or it should be soon, but
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: I think it's Q. Yeah, expect them by.
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: End of year.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Well Q four would be the end of the year.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: But I mean, either way, like it's this is probably
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: the easiest way to ever do anything. Ever, like other
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: card games can't do that, right, Magic can't just be like, well,
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: we're right, we're rotting this card and you know we're
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: gonna ship everybody new ones. This game has the ability,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: they have the technology, they can do it.
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: So even as the big you know or dis faction hater,
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: I I don't think they should ban Robin Hoood.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: I think they're just going to ban the whole faction.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: They just need to edit one word and it's and
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: it's still good. It's still playable, and I like right now,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: like I said, I play all of the factions, right,
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: that's the thing I do. Like, I go through I
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: play with the one that looks the most fun, and
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: for me that means the most competitive.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: And I think they.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Actually did a absolutely brilliant job designing this game, because currently,
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: the only thing that's putting one faction significantly above the
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: other five is not not Waru. It's the one single
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: word on one single iteration of one card. Like that
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: is amazing. Like this is not an easy game to design.
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: The fact that that they're that close right now is like,
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: that's mad props to them.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: I I'm not fully behind that, but I'm close enough
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: to it that we can hang out in the same
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: room and uh, we.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: Will talk about the orders uniques in the future. That's
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: a whole different topic.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: Listen, I'll send you the clip of Turn Inside Out
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: from the newest Magic set and then and then we
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: can talk. I'm on I'm on Big Z's side there.
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: I think it's it's a problem, but it is a
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: very little problem compared to other card games I've played, Oh,
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: even Star Wars Unlimited.
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: That's not the part I don't agree with that.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: It's the orders over.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: I think there's there's some other dialogue that are that
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: are turned a bit far. But I do agree that,
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: like Robinhood is agreedous for two reasons. It's super powerful
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: and it's a super negative play experience. And anytime you
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: have those two things combined. Yeah, it can make things rough.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: The NPE is a big North American like card gaming topic.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: I'm interesting that they didn't use those specific terms because
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: that is a card gaming thing. But it's France. I'm
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: not sure what their terminology is, but negative play experiences.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: And they kind of did. Like they they mentioned that
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: they felt that it was created a very unfun environment.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, like I heard those words. I was actually
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: expecting to hear that that abbreviation.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Blue because it's a play environment.
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: Which is what happened in Keyford early on they addressed
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: some cards, one of them correctly, one of them incorrectly.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: But I mean magic has done it forever. There's always been.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: There's always been a little match in magic. I mean,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: no matter what you do, it like nobody wants to
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: play against the blue player. F Yi, I'm the blue player,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: but I'm going pink this time round because I look pink.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Finn's good. People tell me the Venka's fun. I they
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: can have their opinion as.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Well, can they? If I know anything about you, the
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: people are not allowed. You're allowed to have an opinion.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Allowed to be that hero. I just won't, but I
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: know I will lose a game at some point to
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: the Venka and not be happy about why fair enough.
