- 0:03Good morning, family. Turn to 2 Peter chapter
- 0:071. This is a doctrine that's going to be talked
- 0:12about today, the doctrine of imputation. So let
- 0:17us pray. There is a lot in this three -chapter
- 0:21letter, a lot of doctrine. A lot to focus on.
- 0:28We're going to be on this for a little while.
- 0:32And then by the end of July. So we'll be on this
- 0:36for two months. And then at the end of July we'll
- 0:41be starting 1 John chapter 1. Father, I want
- 0:45to thank you so much for your goodness. Thank
- 0:47you, Lord, for your word. Thank you that we can
- 0:51know by the knowledge of Christ that we are called
- 0:54and elected. that you have purposed in such a
- 0:59way through the knowledge of him who has called
- 1:03us to be sure and confident in our salvation.
- 1:10Lord, I pray that we would understand the importance
- 1:13of this, not only the importance of the work
- 1:17of knowledge, the knowledge of Christ, but also
- 1:20the imputation that you have imputed to us. your
- 1:26righteousness, and have taken upon yourself our
- 1:29sin. And Lord, we do praise you and thank you
- 1:32for this, and we thank you and praise you for
- 1:34your goodness. Bless the word to our hearts.
- 1:39Holy Spirit, guide us in all truth for your glory.
- 1:41In Jesus' name, amen. 2 Peter chapter 1. We're
- 1:48going to be going through verses 1 through 11.
- 1:51And then next, on the 21st, I'll pick up on the
- 1:5412th through. So I'll be on vacation starting
- 2:02this Friday. And then I'll be back on Thursday.
- 2:09So pray for some rest. And God has provided a
- 2:15good preacher for you guys. So come and enjoy.
- 2:20Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
- 2:24to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing
- 2:28with ours by the righteousness of our God and
- 2:31Savior Jesus Christ, may grace and peace be multiplied
- 2:36to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our
- 2:41Lord. His divine power has granted us all things
- 2:45that pertain to life and godliness. through the
- 2:49knowledge of him who called us to his own glory
- 2:53and excellence, by which he has granted to us
- 2:57the precious and very great promises, so that
- 3:00through them you may become partakers of the
- 3:04divine nature, having escaped from the corruption
- 3:07that is in the world because of sinful desires.
- 3:12Very reason make every effort to supplement your
- 3:15faith, virtue, and virtue knowledge, and knowledge,
- 3:20self -control, and self -control with steadfastness,
- 3:24and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness
- 3:26with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection
- 3:29with love. For if these qualities are yours and
- 3:34are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective
- 3:37and unfruitful in the knowledge. of our Lord
- 3:42Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities
- 3:45is nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten
- 3:49that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore,
- 3:53brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm
- 3:56your calling and election, for if you practice
- 3:59these qualities, you will never fail. For in
- 4:02this way, there will be richly provided for you
- 4:07an entrance. Into the eternal kingdom of our
- 4:12Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Do you hear the
- 4:15key word over and over again? Knowledge. It's
- 4:20not works. Right? Works is the expression of
- 4:25the knowledge by which we have been given through
- 4:27faith. That's why faith without works is dead.
- 4:33And the reality is you can't do works unless
- 4:35you know. How much do you know? Are you willing
- 4:41to know? How much time do you put in so that
- 4:44you know? And there's two words here for knowledge,
- 4:48and we're going to see them. One is epignosis,
- 4:52and the other is gnosis. Specifically, though
- 4:56they come from the root word gnosis, meaning
- 4:58to know, epignosis implies something very clear.
- 5:04And we're going to deal with that. So, first
- 5:08principle. Through the gift of faith, Christ
- 5:12has imputed to us his righteousness by which
- 5:16we now can grow in the knowledge of Christ. He
- 5:20has imputed to us his righteousness by which
- 5:23we now can grow in the knowledge of Christ. You
- 5:26cannot grow in the knowledge of Christ unless
- 5:28you have been made or born again and the righteousness
- 5:33of Christ has been applied to you. It's all the
- 5:37work of salvation. So without salvation, without
- 5:40the Spirit of God, you cannot know. And we've
- 5:44been talking about obedience, have we not, for
- 5:46a while now. But it's one thing to be obedient
- 5:49to what, is the question. Obedient in the knowledge
- 5:54of Christ. And we know what wisdom is. It's knowledge
- 5:59lived. Colossians 1, 9 -10, and so, From the
- 6:06day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for
- 6:09you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge
- 6:13of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
- 6:18so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,
- 6:23fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every
- 6:28good work, increasing in the knowledge of God.
- 6:32There it is again. So we see this, whether we
- 6:37missed it or not, in 2 Peter 1, verses 1 -2.
- 6:43First, I want you to know, this is Simon Peter,
- 6:46a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. A slave.
- 6:55A servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. And this
- 7:04word obtained means chosen by divine will. It's
- 7:09interesting. Because we think that this word
- 7:12obtained in English is something that we get.
- 7:16And we, to some degree, do get. But it's really
- 7:21about those who have been chosen by divine will,
- 7:26a faith equal, of equal standing and equal value
- 7:31with ours. By the righteousness of God. This
- 7:35very reality of our obtaining is not that we
- 7:43have gone out and obtained anything. It's the
- 7:46reality that God has chosen by divine will a
- 7:50faith for you that is equal to that of the apostles.
- 7:56Do you get that? Now that one word changes quite
- 8:01a bit when you deal with the reality of the two
- 8:04schools of thought when it comes to free will
- 8:06and when it comes to election. Trust me, this
- 8:10is full of election. This entire chapter is full
- 8:14of election. So this word obtained is very clear
- 8:17in the Greek. To those who have been chosen by
- 8:21divine will and given a faith is the idea of
- 8:24equal standing, equal value with God. by the
- 8:29righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
- 8:32The very imputation of righteousness that's given
- 8:36to the apostles has been given to you. Look what
- 8:44it says, verse 2. May grace and peace be multiplied
- 8:48to you in the knowledge, in the epignosis, The
- 8:55precise and correct knowledge of God and of our
- 8:58Lord Jesus Christ. Do you hear that? There is
- 9:02a truth that's only truth. There is a knowledge
- 9:07that is only true knowledge. And this precise
- 9:12and correct knowledge is specifically of God
- 9:16and of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We
- 9:25are to increase, be multiplied in grace and peace
- 9:29by or in the knowledge, in the precise and correct
- 9:34knowledge of God. You want to grow? You've got
- 9:38to spend time in the Word. You want to grow?
- 9:41You need to learn the precise and correct knowledge
- 9:44of God. And this is important. Because there
- 9:48are a lot of denominations teaching not. The
- 9:53precise and correct knowledge of God. And people
- 9:56are going to say, well, who are you to say you're
- 9:59the only one that has it? I'm not the only one
- 10:02that has it. But there is a precise and correct
- 10:05knowledge of God. And we must understand that.
- 10:10Man does not interpret the word because it's
- 10:13his interpretation of the word. God could care
- 10:16less whether I interpret it my way and you interpret
- 10:19it your way. The only interpretation that matters
- 10:22is his. Period. And that comes through the epignosis
- 10:28of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, this
- 10:32word, again, by the knowledge of Christ's second
- 10:36principle, we are given all we need to live holy
- 10:40and obedient through his great and precious promises.
- 10:45How are you to know? what his great and precious
- 10:49promises are, unless you know the knowledge of
- 10:53God. 2 Corinthians 2, 20 -22 For all the promises
- 11:02of God find their yes in him. That is why it
- 11:07is through him that we utter our amen to God
- 11:12for his glory. And it is God who establishes
- 11:15us. with you in Christ, and has anointed us,
- 11:19and who has also put his seal on us and given
- 11:24us his spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. And
- 11:29there it is. The reality of our knowing is the
- 11:33spirit of God brings us knowingness of Christ.
- 11:39I love this opening, well, not really opening
- 11:42statement, but this verse here. Oh, this is so
- 11:46beautiful. You just want to read it over and
- 11:49over and over again because it sounds so good.
- 11:52And it's actually a song. So if you ever heard
- 11:54of the Christian acapella group called Acapella,
- 11:58please listen to this song. I'm not going to
- 12:05do it. I am tempted. But I will not do it because
- 12:09I don't do it justice as well as they do. 2 Peter
- 12:131, 3 -4. His divine power has granted to us all
- 12:22things that pertain to life and godliness through
- 12:27the knowledge of him who called us to his own
- 12:32glory and excellence. Do you hear that? His divine
- 12:36power. His divine... Dynamos or dunamos is the
- 12:44word. Okay? And the word divine is divine. There
- 12:50is no other word. It is from heaven, from him,
- 12:56by his power, given to us all. This word granted
- 13:02as if he sits not engaged and he declares from
- 13:11his throne, I grant them this. No. That's not
- 13:16what the word here is. The word is given. He
- 13:21is particularly involved in giving and bestowing
- 13:26upon you everything you need by his divine power
- 13:31for life and godliness. And all that you need
- 13:36comes through dia. meaning the means of or by
- 13:40the means of, the epignosis of Christ. The reality
- 13:47of your success in Christian living and your
- 13:50ability to discern that which is good and evil
- 13:54and put into practice by the wisdom of God, what
- 14:01you learn concerning the knowledge of Christ
- 14:03comes from him. All. All things. Pas. Everything
- 14:13you need for life and godliness. Everything.
- 14:17Why do we live defeated all the time? Why do
- 14:21we live questioning God all the time? Not that
- 14:25you can't question God, but what do we question
- 14:28God over? Like, why didn't you answer my prayer?
- 14:33We know what the answer to that is. If we obey
- 14:37him and keep his commands, we show that we love
- 14:40him. And if we are doing that and we please him,
- 14:44he hears our prayers. We can ask him anything
- 14:48and he will give it to us according to his will
- 14:52and his word because we are being obedient. We've
- 14:55read that in 1 Peter, had we not? So let us be
- 15:01mindful. Well, it's actually 1 John. That's Wednesdays.
- 15:05So I'm getting the two mixed up. It's okay. His
- 15:09divine power has granted us, has given to us
- 15:12all for life and godliness through, by the means
- 15:17of, epignosis of Christ. Why? For the very glory,
- 15:23for his own glory and for his excellence because
- 15:27of his goodness is the word there. The word excellence
- 15:31means me. Actually means goodness. By which he
- 15:35has granted, again, given to us his precious
- 15:39and very great promises. Not granted. It's not
- 15:44like he's giving us permission. He's actually
- 15:48given them to you. Why? So that you can live
- 15:52godly and a godly life. Everything you need is
- 15:59through him. So that, Through them you may become
- 16:04partakers. The word partakers is a participant
- 16:09of the divine nature. Here's what it means. Born
- 16:15as a participant or a citizen of eternal life
- 16:19or born as a heavenly being. That's what that
- 16:24word partakers of the divine nature means. And
- 16:28the reality of our knowledge, of the saving power
- 16:33of Christ comes by the Holy Spirit, by which
- 16:36he gives us faith as a gift. And because of that
- 16:39very reality, we can know that according to Romans
- 16:43chapter 10, verse 8, the word is near us, it
- 16:46is in our heart and in our mouth. The very knowledge
- 16:49of God is present in us, in the person of Jesus
- 16:54Christ, or in the person of the Holy Spirit,
- 16:58the Spirit of Christ. So, if I am born as a participant,
- 17:04born as a citizen, born as a heavenly being,
- 17:09then I have escaped or I have been freed from
- 17:12the corruption that is in the world because of
- 17:15sinful desires or sinful lusts. Do you understand
- 17:17that? The reality of your freedom is in Jesus.
- 17:23Not in your works. Your works don't keep you
- 17:27free. The reality of the truth of Christ and
- 17:33his work in you is what has kept you free and
- 17:36keeps you free now. Now that you have been given
- 17:41an eternal nature by the knowledge of him who
- 17:46has called us, add to your faith with all diligence
- 17:50the virtues of Christ. How should you live now
- 17:53that you have the knowledge of God present in
- 17:57you? And how should you live as you are building
- 18:02your knowledge of God and of the Lord Jesus?
- 18:06As you're learning more and as you are living
- 18:09life and godliness because he's given you everything
- 18:12you need. In Colossians 3 .16, let the word of
- 18:20Christ dwell in you richly. Teaching and admonishing
- 18:25one another in all wisdom. The knowledge of God
- 18:30lived. Singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
- 18:34songs with thankfulness in our hearts to God.
- 18:37The expression of our knowledge of God and our
- 18:44growth in Him and our... practice of what he
- 18:48has given us is expressed in how we love and
- 18:52sing and are thankful to God and for each other.
- 19:002 Peter 1, 5 -7. For this very reason. What very
- 19:06reason? Do you remember what we talked about
- 19:08at the end? Because he has freed you. Because
- 19:11he has made you a partaker of the divine nature.
- 19:14For this very reason. Because you are heavenly
- 19:18beings, make every effort, supply with all diligence
- 19:25to furnish your faith with virtue. Are you making
- 19:31every effort to furnish your faith with virtue?
- 19:39This word virtue means uprightness. Why is this
- 19:45important? What's unique about uprightness? It
- 19:49is a commitment and a diligence to live rightly.
- 19:56Are we purposing to live rightly? It's interesting
- 20:02when I just got done watching again The Great
- 20:05Awakening. And what you find about Benjamin Franklin
- 20:09in the film is that he thinks that he can build
- 20:13virtue without Jesus. And George Whitefield rebukes
- 20:19him for it. That the only, the greatest virtue,
- 20:24the greatest knowledge that any man can have
- 20:27is that Christ God came in the flesh, died on
- 20:33the cross, was buried and rose again on the third
- 20:35day. It's the greatest knowledge. There is no
- 20:39greater knowledge on the planet. It does not
- 20:42matter how much he gives us here. The greatest
- 20:45knowledge. The greatest fruit, the greatest statement
- 20:50is the reality that God put on flesh and he died
- 20:55for his creation and rose again on the third
- 20:57day. There is nothing greater. And that is one
- 21:00of the reasons why the world hates it. Because,
- 21:07remember, he makes the wise fools and he makes
- 21:12the strong weak. God's foolishness is wiser than
- 21:20the wisest of men. And God's weakness is stronger
- 21:24than the strongest of men. And that's exactly
- 21:29what he's implying here. Virtue without the knowledge
- 21:34of Christ is not virtue at all. You cannot live
- 21:39uprightly without knowing him. And the more you
- 21:46know him, the more you live uprightly. The more
- 21:50you know Christ, the more he conforms you into
- 21:53the image of his son. Why? Because the word is
- 21:56living and active, sharper than a two -edged
- 21:59sword, divides bone and marrow, soul and spirit,
- 22:03and judges the deepest thoughts and intentions
- 22:06of the heart. There is nothing greater that God
- 22:10has given to man than his word. But out of the
- 22:14greatest things in his word, Christ crucified
- 22:17and resurrected. There is nothing greater. Now
- 22:23concerning this word knowledge, it means gnosis.
- 22:26And this word gnosis literally just means the
- 22:29wisdom of God. The knowledge of God lived. That
- 22:36is wisdom. So virtue with the wisdom of God.
- 22:43The wisdom of God with self -control, with mastering
- 22:47desires and passions. Do you see the link? You
- 22:52cannot be upright without the knowledge of God.
- 22:55You cannot master your desires and passions without
- 23:01the understanding or the living of the knowledge
- 23:04of God. to the mastering of your desires and
- 23:12passions, steadfastness, endurance in the faith.
- 23:16You cannot master the passions without endurance
- 23:21because it is a struggle to win over the flesh,
- 23:25is it not? You must endure in the faith, endure
- 23:31in the truth and the knowledge of Jesus, and
- 23:35to steadfastness, the endurance in the faith,
- 23:38Godliness, reverential devotion. I cannot endure
- 23:44in the faith without having full, honorable,
- 23:48respectful, glorifying devotion to Jesus. Do
- 23:54you get the point? Life and godliness. Do you
- 23:56remember that statement he said in the beginning?
- 23:58His divine power has granted us everything we
- 24:02need for life and godliness. This is the answer
- 24:05right here. Life and godliness is right here.
- 24:11And if I have reverential devotion, how should
- 24:14I be reflecting that devotion to God? Loving
- 24:18you. Brotherly affection. Philadelphia. Brotherly
- 24:26love. That is the word here. Brotherly affection.
- 24:29Philadelphia. And with Philadelphia, agape. Active
- 24:42love of God. You cannot say, I agape my brother,
- 24:48and then watch him suffer. And this is talking
- 24:56about the family. Why do I say that? because
- 25:02there are more brothers and sisters suffering
- 25:04in the church, then in reality, we give more
- 25:08to those who don't know Christ, in the sense
- 25:12of meeting needs, than we do taking care of the
- 25:15family. And if you can't take care of the family,
- 25:20if you cannot be actively loving the people of
- 25:23God, how can you actively love those outside?
- 25:29What's the scripture say? That's exactly what
- 25:33the Pharisees would say, right? They're hypocrites.
- 25:36That's a hypocrite. Look what it says next. The
- 25:44next principle. To not walk in the knowledge
- 25:47of Christ is to live as a blind man wandering
- 25:50aimlessly. To not walk in the knowledge of Christ
- 25:55is to live as a blind man wandering aimlessly.
- 25:58Matthew 15, 16. Let them alone. Jesus says, concerning
- 26:03the Pharisees, they are blind guides, and if
- 26:07the blind lead the blind, both fall into a pit.
- 26:122 Peter 1, 8 -9. For if these qualities, remember
- 26:20that list of qualities, virtue, knowledge, godliness,
- 26:26etc. I haven't memorized the virtues in order,
- 26:30so please forgive me. I should just go back and
- 26:32read it. But these qualities are yours. Now what's
- 26:36interesting is this term, are yours, in the original
- 26:38Greek means already yours. You don't have to
- 26:43acquire them. Oh, that sounds so pretty. That's
- 26:53fine, no problem. At least it's a bird. Usually
- 26:57I hear Star Wars. That's so funny. That's good.
- 27:03For if these qualities are yours, already yours,
- 27:07they're already yours and are increasing. Why?
- 27:14How can something already be present and increasing
- 27:18being abundant in me? Because he lives in you.
- 27:25The Spirit of Christ lives in you. He is present
- 27:30in you. They're already yours. And they are abundantly
- 27:37yours. Remember that little statement Jesus says
- 27:40when it comes to us living on this earth? He
- 27:47has abundantly blessed us. It's not abundantly
- 27:51blessing us with junk. God could care less about
- 27:54a car. He cares about your character. He gives
- 27:59you a car because he wants to bless you. He's
- 28:01a good father, after all. It's an example. You
- 28:07guys understand why I say that? Let's look at
- 28:10a couple preachers. Now look, if these qualities
- 28:15are already yours and are abundant, they, those
- 28:19qualities, keep you from being ineffective, unprofitable,
- 28:23and hollow. or unfruitful, unproductive, barren,
- 28:28or useless toward the knowledge, epignosis of
- 28:33our Lord Jesus Christ. If these are already yours
- 28:37and are abundant, they will keep you from being
- 28:41ineffective. They will keep you from being unprofitable.
- 28:44They will keep you from being unproductive and
- 28:47useless. And the reality is that truth of those
- 28:51things are Toward the knowledge, toward the precise
- 28:56and correct knowledge of Jesus. That's the understanding
- 29:00here. You want to know how to live? They're yours
- 29:04already. Matter of fact, they're so plentiful
- 29:09that you grow in the knowledge of God, it continues
- 29:12to be abundant for you. Why do we live so many
- 29:18defeated lives? For whoever lacks. This word
- 29:23forever lacks means not to have. Whoever doesn't
- 29:27have these qualities is nearsighted. What's interesting
- 29:33about this term nearsighted means so close to
- 29:35the eyes. You ever get something so close that
- 29:38it gets blurry? Right? I know some people that
- 29:44when they go to read, they're like, I'm like,
- 29:47how can you see that? Right now, I can't see
- 29:49anything. But that's the idea. Try it one day.
- 29:52Just grab your Bible and bring it right up to
- 29:54your face and try to read it and let me know
- 29:56if you can read it. No, you can't. But that's
- 29:59what it means. They only see what they want to
- 30:02see. So much so that he is blind. Blindness is
- 30:11not the issue of not being able to see at all.
- 30:14It's the issue that everything in front of you
- 30:16is so blurred that you don't know what's in front
- 30:21of you. It's so distorted. That's what he means
- 30:24here. Not dark. So when he talks about the Pharisees
- 30:32being blind, they wander around with blurred
- 30:35vision to the point that they don't even realize
- 30:38there's a hole in front of them and they fall
- 30:40into it. And everybody who walks with them and
- 30:44agrees with them, they all fall in the same pit.
- 30:50Having forgotten this term. So, if these qualities
- 30:57are lacking, they are nearsighted. So much so
- 31:04that he's blind. He has willfully forgotten.
- 31:09That's what this word having forgotten means.
- 31:11It's a willful rejection of the truth, of the
- 31:17knowledge that has cleansed them. freed them
- 31:20from guilt, from their former sins. How many
- 31:27people do you know who have tasted and seen that
- 31:31the Lord is good to walk away, willfully reject
- 31:35and forget of the blood that has bought them
- 31:41and cleansed them from their sin? They just have...
- 31:45They have totally rejected and forgotten the
- 31:48reality of the guilt that they have been freed
- 31:50from. So many. So many. Last principle. Oh, actually,
- 32:01yeah, last principle. By the knowledge of Christ.
- 32:06In his gospel, he has called us and made our
- 32:09election sure through his work of salvation,
- 32:13guaranteeing our inheritance into his eternal
- 32:16kingdom. 2 Timothy 1, 9 -10. God, who saved us
- 32:23and called us to a holy calling, not because
- 32:26of our works, but because of his own purpose
- 32:29and grace, which he has... which He gave us in
- 32:32Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which
- 32:36now has been manifest through the appearing of
- 32:39our Lord Jesus Christ, who abolished death and
- 32:44brought life and immortality to light through
- 32:47the gospel. In 2 Peter 1, 10 and 11, Therefore,
- 32:54because of all this, brothers, Be all the more
- 33:00diligent. Be more eager to confirm, to make sure,
- 33:06to establish your calling. Now this word calling
- 33:10is interesting. Because this word calling implies
- 33:14that you have been found. Not that you found
- 33:18anything. From which you were found. Do you know
- 33:25those little stories that Jesus talks about?
- 33:28Right? The parables of the lost coin, the lost
- 33:32sheep. That's not that you found God. That's
- 33:38not what Jesus is saying. The kingdom of God
- 33:43is like this. A woman who has lost her coin.
- 33:50And she inquires about it. And she tears the
- 33:54house apart. And she finds the coin. And when
- 33:58she finds the coin, she spends the coin on throwing
- 34:01a party. You're the coin. Jesus is not the coin.
- 34:11You're the coin. You're the lost coin. Then he
- 34:15also talks about the sheep. And he has a shepherd,
- 34:20and the shepherd has sheep, and one sheep decides
- 34:23it's going to wander wherever it wants to. It's
- 34:26no longer with the rest. And so the shepherd
- 34:29leaves the 99 to go find the one. Jesus is not
- 34:33the sheep. You're the sheep. So, this was what
- 34:41makes our purpose to confirm. Be more eager to
- 34:48confirm and establish to make sure. That you
- 34:54have been found. That God has found you. That
- 35:01you're not lost anymore. Do you remind yourself
- 35:06that I'm not lost anymore? Do you know why people
- 35:09struggle with the reality of their conversion
- 35:11and wonder, can I really be saved? Do I really
- 35:16love God? How come I don't feel like I love God?
- 35:21Because we're sheep. God is the one who does
- 35:26the finding. He found you. He called you. And
- 35:33election. Oh, this word. So not only does he
- 35:38find us, this word election means God's act of
- 35:42choosing out. Oh, you know what word I'm going
- 35:46to use, Sue? Erechomai. God calls us. Out. He
- 35:55chooses us out from being objects of wrath. So
- 36:01I want you to understand this. Every human being
- 36:04ever born, because of the nature that they are
- 36:09born with, are children of wrath. Y 'all, they're
- 36:13usually like, well, how can little babies be
- 36:15little children of wrath? I know a couple two
- 36:18-year -olds that are wrathful. But that's not
- 36:21what, doesn't mean. But the reality is they're
- 36:24little sinners. Innocence does not determine
- 36:30righteousness. Innocence never determines righteousness.
- 36:40What do we know about God? He is merciful and
- 36:43full of grace. And when that child comes to age
- 36:48to understand that that child was born in sin,
- 36:52Oh boy. So the reality is that God has chosen
- 36:59us out from his wrath. For if you practice these,
- 37:05make these virtues, qualities, if you purpose
- 37:12to live these out, you will never, this word
- 37:18will means once, You will never not, no not.
- 37:25It's a double negative. In other words, you can't
- 37:28get anything better than no not. They don't have
- 37:33a word never in the Greek. So you read the word
- 37:37and you go, oh, no not. It's sort of like the
- 37:41word ain't. You will no not fall. You will never
- 37:48fall. If you live. These qualities. These virtues.
- 37:56Make these virtues always know not fall. Now
- 38:06this word fall means to become wretched or fall
- 38:10into misery. It's a wonderful statement that
- 38:16the reality of God's act of choosing and finding
- 38:23us when we were lost. Through the knowledge of
- 38:28him who has called us, if we live out the virtues
- 38:32of Christ, we will never fall. We will never
- 38:39become wretched. Verse 11, for in this way, In
- 38:47this manner, there will be richly, generously,
- 38:50abundantly provided, supplied, or furnished for
- 38:54you an entrance, an admission, and a reception
- 38:58into the kingdom, into the eternal kingdom of
- 39:02our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is not
- 39:08a ticket. It's a rite of passage. Who is the
- 39:18rite of passage? The Spirit of God. And the reality
- 39:24of the Spirit of God present is the knowledge
- 39:26of Christ in you. Do you see how it's all connected?
- 39:31I cannot say I'm a believer and not have the
- 39:35knowledge of Christ and then not live the knowledge
- 39:38of Christ and then not give away the knowledge
- 39:41of Christ. And then continue to grow in the knowledge
- 39:44of Christ so that I become more like him and
- 39:47say, I'm a believer if I don't believe any of
- 39:50that. Or if I say that all my entrance in is
- 39:56based upon what I do. Justification is by faith
- 40:04alone, not by faith and works. Faith alone. My
- 40:13expression of the faith is seen in my virtues
- 40:18lived. That's what that means. And so, I pray
- 40:25that you hold on to the knowledge of God and
- 40:30that you are eager to grow in the knowledge so
- 40:33that you can absolutely know and be certain that
- 40:38your faith is true. That you confirm You're calling
- 40:43an election to be sure because of Christ and
- 40:48knowing him. That's the reality of 1 Peter 1,
- 40:531 -11. Father, I want to thank you so much for
- 40:57your goodness and faithfulness. To you be honor
- 41:00and glory forever. Bless your word, and Lord,
- 41:03I pray that we would live it in such a way that
- 41:05you are honored and glorified in how we express
- 41:09these virtues. and honor you in all things. In
- 41:12Jesus' name, amen.
