- 0:23Speaker 1: Welcome back to Like a Virgin. I'm Rose Damu.
- 0:26Speaker 2: And I'm Fran Torado.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And we are freshly back from the greatest vacation either
- 0:33Speaker 1: of us have ever taken. No hyperbole. We are never
- 0:36Speaker 1: hyperbolic on this podcast, literally ever.
- 0:38Speaker 2: No, brick or treat, ladies and gentlemen. We absolutely did
- 0:46Speaker 2: the thing and went to Orlando accidentally during Orlando Pride. Again,
- 0:50Speaker 2: this was not on purpose.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We did the damn thing. Before we get into that,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I know, Fran, you wanted to do a little housekeeping.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I have some really important updates for the virgins. We
- 1:02Speaker 2: have a TikTok now, okay?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Just what the world needed, another podcast with a TikTok.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Absolutely. What the world needs now is podcasts, sweet podcasts.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I'm going to kill you. You know, right now, the algorithm,
- 1:22Speaker 2: now more than ever, the algorithm needs two talking heads
- 1:26Speaker 2: caught into 30 to 90 second videos. And you can
- 1:30Speaker 2: follow us at LikeAVirgin42069. Same as our Instagram handle over
- 1:35Speaker 2: on TikTok. And that's what?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Brand synergy.
- 1:38Speaker 2: We don't actually want you to. We kind of need
- 1:42Speaker 2: you to. So everyone listening to this podcast right now, pause.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Go to the TikTok app.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Pause up.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Pause up. Search Like A Virgin. 42069. Actually, I'm a
- 1:55Speaker 2: little worried that the 42069 shadow bans us. So you
- 2:00Speaker 2: can actually probably just search Like A Virgin and find us.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But Like A Virgin 42069 is our handle. And we
- 2:07Speaker 2: will be posting our videos there. Maybe more than what
- 2:10Speaker 2: we even post on Instagram.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I don't know. The divas on Instagram are loving the content.
- 2:15Speaker 2: They really are. But give us some love on TikTok
- 2:18Speaker 2: so that we can get up on the algorithm over there.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We love you, love you, love you, virgins. Follow us
- 2:22Speaker 2: on TikTok. Write meow.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And then you should also go to our Patreon, patreon.com
- 2:27Speaker 1: slash like a virgin and listen to an episode in
- 2:31Speaker 1: which we ranked the universal, the classic universal monsters as
- 2:37Speaker 1: they are represented in the Ride Monsters Unchained, which we
- 2:40Speaker 1: will discuss shortly. by bisexuality, which is now sort of
- 2:45Speaker 1: one of our core repeatable formats, ranking things by how
- 2:48Speaker 1: bisexual they are. It's very funny. I, who famously don't
- 2:53Speaker 1: like to listen to our episodes after they've been posted,
- 2:56Speaker 1: besides when I'm editing them, started listening to it this
- 2:59Speaker 1: morning and chuckled a couple times because a man can laugh,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but a woman has to chuckle.
- 3:04Speaker 2: A woman has to chuckle. And let me tell you,
- 3:06Speaker 2: I was chuckling myself when I was editing the Igor
- 3:09Speaker 2: video last night. the idea of Frankenstein's Igor taking up
- 3:18Speaker 2: space at Jacob Rees Beach right here in New York
- 3:20Speaker 2: City just did make me giggle. And yeah, go find
- 3:24Speaker 2: our rankings of bisexuality. I honestly have already wondered if
- 3:29Speaker 2: there's a mistake in our ranking, Rose. And I'm saying
- 3:32Speaker 2: this honestly to bait the listeners into going to figure
- 3:36Speaker 2: out what we're talking about. But I'm worried that where
- 3:40Speaker 2: we put the brides of Frankenstein actually, sorry, the brides
- 3:44Speaker 2: of Dracula should be higher.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I've been thinking about that. I disagree and listeners to
- 3:51Speaker 1: find out why we were going to have to go
- 3:53Speaker 1: listen to the episode.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You are going to go have to listen to the episode.
- 3:56Speaker 2: We are making our bonus episodes purchasable for $ 3. So
- 4:04Speaker 2: if you, you know, for whatever reason, don't feel like
- 4:06Speaker 2: subscribing monthly, which would be silly, you should subscribe monthly.
- 4:10Speaker 2: you can go and just buy a single episode for $ 3.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Something else you can do as the holiday season approaches,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you can gift a Patreon membership to the virgin in
- 4:22Speaker 1: your life who maybe doesn't have the coin to subscribe
- 4:26Speaker 1: but still wants to listen to the dolls. So that
- 4:29Speaker 1: is something great to gift the nerds, pervs, and transsexuals
- 4:35Speaker 1: in your life this holiday season. And I promise we
- 4:38Speaker 1: will find a better way to integrate patreon promo into
- 4:42Speaker 1: the show rather than like front loading it no i.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Actually think this is the way to do it because
- 4:47Speaker 2: you do okay yeah i think that if we're giving
- 4:50Speaker 2: the virgins a preview into what the patreon is we're
- 4:53Speaker 2: trying to excuse me entertain them it's fashion um we're
- 4:58Speaker 2: trying to entertain them we're trying to um surprise and
- 5:02Speaker 2: delight them and we're enticing them to come on over
- 5:04Speaker 2: to our content and let me tell you.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Come on over Come on over to Patreon.
- 5:10Speaker 2: This is what all podcasters do. And as you all
- 5:13Speaker 2: listening know, it is the only way we can continue
- 5:16Speaker 2: to make the show. So thank you for listening.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We have no breaking news this week. Because as we said,
- 5:26Speaker 1: we've been on vacation. So we were really not paying
- 5:30Speaker 1: attention to what was going on in the world. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: didn't even know about the rides that were happening in
- 5:34Speaker 1: Paris until Fran told me about them at the airport
- 5:36Speaker 1: on our way back.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:39Speaker 1: That is a symptom of not having Twitter on my phone,
- 5:42Speaker 1: which is a lifestyle y'all should get into.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah. It was impressive the fact that you truly, through
- 5:48Speaker 2: hours of waiting in Orlando theme park rides, never checked
- 5:54Speaker 2: TikTok or Instagram because you couldn't. You had to wait
- 5:57Speaker 2: until you got back into the hotel and you can
- 5:59Speaker 2: open up your iPad and And pull out your stylus
- 6:03Speaker 2: and then turn to me and go, ha ha, look
- 6:05Speaker 2: at this meme. And it's a meme of the Hunchback
- 6:07Speaker 2: of Notre Dame with a big, fat, juicy ass. And
- 6:10Speaker 2: it says the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Which we will post on. Well, maybe we'll post the
- 6:17Speaker 1: picture of me holding my iPad on our Instagram.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But we had so much fun on this trip. First
- 6:27Speaker 1: of all, Fran, I want to be a little corny
- 6:30Speaker 1: and just. thank you for going on this journey with me.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Of course. I know that I had to talk you
- 6:35Speaker 1: into it a little. A little.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I was in when I found out there was discounts.
- 6:40Speaker 1: At first you were hesitant, but... At first I was afraid.
- 6:43Speaker 1: At first you were petrified.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I was petrified.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Something I have been really doing over the past couple
- 6:51Speaker 1: years as a way basically to keep me alive and
- 6:55Speaker 1: not suicidal is really, really.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And I have kind of reframed it as indulging myself
- 7:04Speaker 1: because I don't like the idea of doing the things
- 7:07Speaker 1: you like being an indulgence. I'm simply making myself happy
- 7:11Speaker 1: by doing the things that I love. And something that
- 7:13Speaker 1: I've identified with the help of my therapist is that
- 7:16Speaker 1: I really love play. And I love things like theme
- 7:20Speaker 1: parks and haunted houses and especially spooky season. And the
- 7:25Speaker 1: only way to... experience those things to their fullest extent
- 7:30Speaker 1: is to make them happen for yourself and hopefully find
- 7:33Speaker 1: people who want to do them with you. And so Fran,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you coming with me when literally no one else in
- 7:40Speaker 1: my life besides my sisters would want to do that
- 7:44Speaker 1: meant so much to me. And I had so much
- 7:48Speaker 1: fun with you. We had so much fun together. It
- 7:51Speaker 1: truly like makes me emotional, brought me so much joy.
- 7:54Speaker 1: These memories will last a lifetime. They will. We had
- 7:59Speaker 1: such a good time.
- 8:00Speaker 2: They'll last for as long as until we forget them.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Well, you know, I have been building my... Until two
- 8:07Speaker 2: to three years from now, you go, what do we
- 8:09Speaker 2: do again in Epic Universe?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Okay, well, here's the thing. As I may have mentioned before,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I do, when I go to theme parks, chronicle every...
- 8:19Speaker 1: In my journal... Your theme park diary? Well, my general diary.
- 8:23Speaker 1: journal right um but in this section where i keep
- 8:27Speaker 1: notes on like all the books i'm reading blah blah
- 8:30Speaker 1: i also when i go to a theme park every
- 8:32Speaker 1: day i go through and list out the rides that
- 8:36Speaker 1: i went on the food that i ate and the
- 8:39Speaker 1: characters that i saw because i want to remember you
- 8:42Speaker 1: want to remember we didn't see very many characters actually
- 8:45Speaker 1: it was actually shocking that at disney we saw zero
- 8:49Speaker 1: characters Between two parks, zero characters.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Saw none.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Saw none. Where were they?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Where were they? I mean, with Star Wars Rise of
- 9:01Speaker 2: the Resistance, if we want to get into some of
- 9:03Speaker 2: the rides that we did, there are actors and players
- 9:07Speaker 2: that facilitate the ride that are kind of characters and
- 9:12Speaker 2: you feel like you're in the world.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'm talking we did not see any face characters,
- 9:17Speaker 1: which is.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Actors who were in costume as, you know, say Luke Skywalker.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Giant Mickey or Minnie kind of characters.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And we did not see suited characters, which are, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: the ones that are in the big suits. They're fursonas.
- 9:34Speaker 1: They're fursonas. Yeah, that was really weird. And then I
- 9:37Speaker 1: think the only characters we saw besides the scare actors
- 9:41Speaker 1: at Halloween Horror Nights were Mario and Luigi at Epic Universe.
- 9:47Speaker 2: We also saw Peach. Oh, yes.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Briefly. Yes, we did. Briefly.
- 9:54Speaker 2: We saw Peach. There was a line to meet Spider-Man,
- 9:57Speaker 2: but we did not see Spider-Man.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Himself. Shimself. Shimself.
- 10:04Speaker 2: But I would say here's something that the virgins need
- 10:07Speaker 2: to know about me. I did not grow up on
- 10:09Speaker 2: theme parks, okay? Going to Disney this weekend was the
- 10:13Speaker 2: third time I've been to Disney in my entire life,
- 10:15Speaker 2: the first of which I was like six years old.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So I don't really remember... anything beyond going on the
- 10:21Speaker 2: Snow White ride and crying.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Something I also did as a child, but sort of
- 10:26Speaker 1: leaned into as I got older.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Right. And with Universal, going to theme parks nowadays does
- 10:34Speaker 2: feel like this inner child work, if you will. It
- 10:39Speaker 2: is just dopamine chasing in a way that I think
- 10:43Speaker 2: everybody should have access to. Because there is no better
- 10:47Speaker 2: feeling than... The adrenaline rush of being close to death
- 10:52Speaker 2: on a roller coaster and screaming in unison with everyone else.
- 10:56Speaker 2: We get so few opportunities to scream in public. It's
- 11:00Speaker 2: not socially acceptable. And it's so cathartic, even though I
- 11:03Speaker 2: did sort of lose my voice and become even clockier
- 11:08Speaker 2: than I had been already. Now that you said it,
- 11:13Speaker 2: Stardust Racers... Which is, if you do not know, Epic
- 11:18Speaker 2: Universe at Universal comprises several different kind of franchise sub-universes.
- 11:23Speaker 2: There's Dark Universe. There's How to Train Your Dragon Universe.
- 11:25Speaker 2: There's like the Harry Potter world. There's like all these
- 11:27Speaker 2: different whatever. And then there's kind of this generic celestial
- 11:33Speaker 2: kind of world in which the Stardust Racers roller coaster
- 11:38Speaker 2: lives and breathes. No original kind of like intellectual property
- 11:44Speaker 2: attached to it.
- 11:45Speaker 1: It's just a roller coaster.
- 11:47Speaker 2: The number one roller coaster experience of my entire life.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And I have not been on as many roller coasters
- 11:53Speaker 2: as you, Rose, but I've still been on quite a lot.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:56Speaker 2: This is not an exaggeration. After my first ride on
- 12:01Speaker 2: Stardust Racers, we crash down, we get to the bottom
- 12:05Speaker 2: of the roller coaster, the ride ends. I feel physiologically
- 12:11Speaker 2: in my body something that no joke. feels like I
- 12:16Speaker 2: just had sex. Like it was a physiological, heavy, heavy
- 12:21Speaker 2: breathing while dancing, coughing.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Um, hard nipples, just like when we went to Publix
- 12:29Speaker 1: and you were bricked up.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I had really hard nipples at Publix. That's true. But
- 12:32Speaker 2: no Stardust Racers. No, I did not have this experience
- 12:35Speaker 2: on any other rollercoaster. We I was so ecstatic, euphoric, wild-eyed.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I mean, have you ever seen that expression on my face?
- 12:48Speaker 1: No, never.
- 12:49Speaker 2: It was truly, truly, like, physiological.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And the only other time I saw that expression on
- 12:56Speaker 1: your face was after Monsters Unchained. Monsters Unchained. We'll get
- 13:00Speaker 1: to it. We're doing roller coasters now.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Um. Stardust Racers, so our first experience, incredible.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Girl.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Then we, you know, made the plan that we were
- 13:12Speaker 1: going to do Stardust Racers again as our final ride
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the day.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It was our first ride of the day. It was
- 13:18Speaker 2: to be our last ride of the day.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And when we got to it, at the end of
- 13:22Speaker 1: the day, as the sun had set, we saw that
- 13:25Speaker 1: the line was 45 minutes long and we were like,
- 13:27Speaker 1: oh God, are we really going to do this? Then
- 13:29Speaker 1: we said, yes, we are. Because we saw that at night-
- 13:34Speaker 1: the ride lights up and looks so much cooler. And
- 13:37Speaker 1: we were like, okay, we have to do this. We
- 13:38Speaker 1: waited in this like labyrinthine line.
- 13:42Speaker 2: They were playing.
- 13:43Speaker 1: They were playing in our faces. And then we get
- 13:47Speaker 1: on the ride as the firework spectacular, as the fountain
- 13:53Speaker 1: spectacular is happening. And then as we are about to
- 13:56Speaker 1: take off, the fireworks start. So we are riding the
- 14:01Speaker 1: best ride in the park as the, At night, as
- 14:05Speaker 1: a glow-in-the-dark fountain show is happening and fireworks are blasting
- 14:10Speaker 1: in the air. It was a transcendent experience. I have
- 14:15Speaker 1: never felt closer to God, who is a woman, by
- 14:18Speaker 1: the way.
- 14:19Speaker 2: And Stardust Racers, if you're not familiar, is like kind
- 14:23Speaker 2: of the third or fourth fastest roller coaster in Orlando. Like,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I think the faster ones are, I think the Hulk coaster. Okay,
- 14:32Speaker 2: I'm reading right now. Stardust Racers, 62 miles per hour.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Incredible Hulk, 67 miles per hour. The VelociCoaster, 70 miles
- 14:42Speaker 2: per hour.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And you feel it.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And you feel it in your bones.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But I do think that Stardust Racers, because of the...
- 14:51Speaker 1: So it's two coasters racing simultaneously. Sort of like back
- 14:58Speaker 1: in the day, we had Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure,
- 15:01Speaker 1: which was the same idea. Um, and, but the crazy
- 15:05Speaker 1: thing about it is that they, these coasters not only
- 15:08Speaker 1: go side by side, they intersect. At one point they
- 15:10Speaker 1: sort of flip together and you are feet away from
- 15:15Speaker 1: the other riders. In fact, the first time I ever
- 15:18Speaker 1: went on it, my sister Alex was on the other
- 15:21Speaker 1: car and we saw each other.
- 15:23Speaker 2: You made eye contact.
- 15:23Speaker 1: We made eye contact, which was nuts. Um, but Stardust Racers,
- 15:29Speaker 1: it's not just the speed. It's the flips, tricks, turns, stunts.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It's kind of the Sasha Colby of roller coasters.
- 15:37Speaker 2: It is.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It is.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's about showmanship, no frills.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Okay. And let me tell you, if we're going to
- 15:50Speaker 2: stay with this kind of like drag queen metaphor, there
- 15:54Speaker 2: are some drag queens that are all about the reveal.
- 15:58Speaker 2: They're about the IP. They're about the props. They're about
- 16:01Speaker 2: the drag. They're about the wigs. They're about the, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 2: a certain kind of narrative that they need to sell
- 16:06Speaker 2: you on. That is what a lot of these other
- 16:08Speaker 2: coasters are giving. The other coasters are giving animatronics. The
- 16:11Speaker 2: other coasters are giving characters, intellectual property, franchises, a linear
- 16:18Speaker 2: narrative that you as the writer are following in the
- 16:21Speaker 2: pre-show leading up to the coaster or the ride. Stardust
- 16:24Speaker 2: Racers is, doesn't need to sell you on anything but
- 16:28Speaker 2: the fact that you are stars, you are stardust, and
- 16:32Speaker 2: you are racing. Period.
- 16:35Speaker 1: And that in and of itself made it the best coaster.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It felt like doing a little Charlie Kirk.
- 16:42Speaker 2: It felt like doing a little Charlie Kirk.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And in fact, I kind of wish we had done
- 16:45Speaker 1: a little Charlie Kirk before getting on it.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Actually, if our heart palpitations could handle that. I think
- 16:52Speaker 2: that would be extremely dangerous and not advised on like
- 16:55Speaker 2: a health advisory level.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Especially considering someone has died on Stardust Racers.
- 17:00Speaker 2: On Stardust Racers, right.
- 17:03Speaker 1: To be fair, he had a pre-existing condition.
- 17:05Speaker 2: He had a pre-existing heart condition.
- 17:07Speaker 1: But he did fully die on Stardust Racers. And honestly,
- 17:12Speaker 1: that's how I want to go. She died as she
- 17:14Speaker 1: lived on a roller coaster. Doing what she loved. With
- 17:18Speaker 1: fucked up bangs.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Doing what she loved.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Doing what she loved.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Um, other coasters. Okay. The, the other coasters that are
- 17:26Speaker 2: worth talking about in my mind are obviously, um, Monsters Unchained.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Well, that's a dark ride.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It's a dark ride, whatever. Okay.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Let's talk about the, let's talk about the other coasters.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So VelociCoaster.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Just so, just so the virgins know what's the difference
- 17:40Speaker 2: between a coaster and a dark ride.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Okay. A roller coaster is a roller coaster. You know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I think we're all very clear what that is. A
- 17:49Speaker 1: dark ride is a ride that takes place indoors and
- 17:54Speaker 1: is both a tracked or trackless, in the case of
- 17:58Speaker 1: Rise of the Resistance, cart ride that involves a level
- 18:05Speaker 1: of theatricality and showmanship, usually done with a mix of
- 18:11Speaker 1: animatronics and screens.
- 18:14Speaker 2: And a costumed kind of ensemble ride.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, so a dark coaster, a dark ride is something like,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, a dark ride is not necessarily about like
- 18:25Speaker 1: the thematic aspect. So a dark ride can be something
- 18:30Speaker 1: like the Peter Pan ride at Disney. And then a
- 18:33Speaker 1: dark ride is also something like Monsters Unchained. It's any
- 18:37Speaker 1: ride where you are indoors, it is dark, and a
- 18:41Speaker 1: kind of a show is happening around you that you
- 18:44Speaker 1: are moving through. Right. So out of the purely roller
- 18:49Speaker 1: coasters we rode, I think the other one really that
- 18:53Speaker 1: deserves her due is the VelociCoaster, which is part of
- 18:58Speaker 1: the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure. As Fran said,
- 19:03Speaker 1: it goes 70 miles per hour. It has some of
- 19:05Speaker 1: the most sickening drops I've ever drooped.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:10Speaker 1: It has one part near the end. Where you flip
- 19:14Speaker 1: upside down and are truly, I would say, maybe six
- 19:18Speaker 1: to ten feet over the water.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Upside down.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Upside down.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It's crazy. You think you were going to die. Yeah.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Well, and the one big drop before that, I lifted
- 19:31Speaker 1: out my seat. I thought I was going to go flying.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I thought we were about to be final destination.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I always think about final destination when I ride a
- 19:39Speaker 2: roller coaster. And I think everyone does, actually.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I think it's normal.
- 19:42Speaker 1: As they should.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I also want to say, I mean, I love the Velocicoaster.
- 19:47Speaker 2: My one complaint is that I kind of wish there
- 19:49Speaker 2: were animatronics involved. There was only one coaster, one Velociraptor
- 19:54Speaker 2: represented in the ride. If you're not counting the kind
- 19:58Speaker 2: of screen, the Velociraptors on screen.
- 20:03Speaker 1: At the beginning of the ride. Yeah, as you're launching.
- 20:05Speaker 2: As you're launching off. But I do wish there was
- 20:08Speaker 2: a little bit more. shall we say, dinner and a show?
- 20:12Speaker 1: How could we integrate that? I think maybe like every...
- 20:17Speaker 1: So instead of every... seat being two people, it's one
- 20:22Speaker 1: person and they're like... One Velociraptor. One Velociraptor, yes.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 20:26Speaker 1: An animatronic Velociraptor is your co-pilot for every seat and
- 20:31Speaker 1: does try to eat you and sometimes is successful.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yes. It's trying to eat you as you are riding.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I do think that will make the wait time longer
- 20:40Speaker 1: because less people can ride every time, but I think
- 20:43Speaker 1: it will be a worthwhile experience and we have fast
- 20:46Speaker 1: passes anyway, so... Yes, exactly.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I will also say, while we're in the coaster section,
- 20:55Speaker 2: the only other thing I wanted to say is that
- 20:58Speaker 2: I have ridden the Revenge of the Mummy ride now
- 21:01Speaker 2: in Los Angeles. I have ridden the Revenge of the
- 21:03Speaker 2: Mummy ride now in Orlando. I do think that the
- 21:07Speaker 2: ride in LA is better.
- 21:10Speaker 1: See, I don't remember what's different about it, so I
- 21:15Speaker 1: cannot say that Um, but I believe you believe women.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I believe that the mummy ride in Orlando has more
- 21:27Speaker 2: va va voom effects. Like there's, I believe a wet effect.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I know there's pyrotechnics. I don't know if the LA
- 21:34Speaker 2: coaster has that, but it is to me a better coaster.
- 21:38Speaker 2: There's a moment in the LA revenge of the mummy
- 21:41Speaker 2: where you are thrust up against a screen that creates
- 21:45Speaker 2: a big, scary, ugly kind of, ghost mummy face and
- 21:48Speaker 2: it scares you and then the ride drops backwards and
- 21:53Speaker 2: that moment happens in Orlando but it happens in a
- 21:56Speaker 2: slower less kind of jump scary way and for that
- 21:59Speaker 2: reason I will say the LA Revenge of the Mummy
- 22:03Speaker 2: is better.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I mean there are several theme park rides that I
- 22:06Speaker 1: do think are better at their LA counterpart parks like
- 22:10Speaker 1: the Indiana Jones ride is much better than the shit
- 22:14Speaker 1: they've got at Disney, although I think they are building
- 22:20Speaker 1: that ride at Animal Kingdom. Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is
- 22:27Speaker 1: way better than it is at Magic Kingdom at Disney World. But,
- 22:33Speaker 1: you know, either way, love Revenge of the Mummy. Love
- 22:39Speaker 1: Revenge of the Mummy. Also... Oh, we... So this was
- 22:44Speaker 1: new for both of us. The Rock and Roller Coaster,
- 22:49Speaker 1: which has in the past been themed around Aerosmith, which
- 22:53Speaker 1: Fran was shocked to find out, was recently.
- 22:58Speaker 2: There's an Aerosmith coaster and also an Ozzy Osbourne coaster?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Well, there's an Ozzy Osbourne haunted house. Oh, I thought
- 23:06Speaker 1: there was a coaster.
- 23:07Speaker 2: No.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Oh, so random. So it was before the Rock and
- 23:11Speaker 1: Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith. It has been rethemed to be
- 23:16Speaker 1: the rock and roller coaster featuring the Muppets. It is,
- 23:19Speaker 1: I will say, like still kind of the same ride. Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 1: But the pre-show featuring Muppets is super fun.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So good.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And that is where I spent the most money on merch.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Right. It is actually also the only place I bought
- 23:37Speaker 2: something for myself. I bought Muppet earrings featuring Kermit, Piggy,
- 23:42Speaker 2: and Animal, who is my other favorite Muppet.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And Fran graciously split those earrings with me. So we
- 23:49Speaker 1: both have them. Right.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, we each, it's kind of like our
- 23:53Speaker 2: version of the best friend kind of necklace with the
- 23:56Speaker 2: two pieces of the broken heart, except it's Muppets.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I still kind of would like one of those. Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I would like one of those too. Okay.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We'll work. Okay. Let's talk, let's talk dark rides.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And there really is only one, one diva up for discussion. Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And that is Monsters Unchained. Which exists at Universal's Epic Universe.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Their newly opened theme park had opened last year or
- 24:21Speaker 1: the year before. It has a couple different sections. There's
- 24:26Speaker 1: a How to Train Your Dragon section. There's a Harry
- 24:29Speaker 1: Potter section. Right. Never heard of it. Don't know what
- 24:32Speaker 1: that is. There is a Super Mario Brothers section, which
- 24:37Speaker 1: Fran was really gooped and gagged by. Gagged. And then
- 24:41Speaker 1: there is... Dark Universe, which is the spooky section, home
- 24:45Speaker 1: of the classic Universal Monsters, which are sort of celebrated
- 24:50Speaker 1: the most in the ride Monsters Unchained. The idea of
- 24:55Speaker 1: which is that Victoria Frankenstein, an original character who is
- 24:59Speaker 1: supposed to be Victor Frankenstein's great-great-granddaughter, has gotten all of
- 25:04Speaker 1: these ooky spooky monsters under her control in the bowels
- 25:08Speaker 1: of Darkmoor, the family castle. And Her most recent acquisition
- 25:13Speaker 1: is Dracula, but he escapes and lets the monsters loose. Hence,
- 25:18Speaker 1: Monsters Unchained.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Unchained. Fran, what were your thoughts on this ride?
- 25:27Speaker 2: I was not prepared for how this would feel. And
- 25:30Speaker 2: I'm going to set this up with some light shade.
- 25:35Speaker 2: And forgive me, Rose. The day before we went to
- 25:39Speaker 2: Epic Universe, we were at Disney. Rose took her sisters
- 25:43Speaker 2: and I, she as she is so good at doing,
- 25:49Speaker 2: lovingly curates the rides, the experiences, the cadence of the day,
- 25:53Speaker 2: the optimization of that day perfectly.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I am the mom friend.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I have no notes. However, you did take us on
- 26:04Speaker 2: the Tower of Terror. You also took us on the
- 26:07Speaker 2: Haunted Mansion ride. These are two spooktacular rides. They are
- 26:12Speaker 2: the kind of pieces of IP in the Disney theme
- 26:16Speaker 2: park that are for girls like us, goth girls, hot
- 26:21Speaker 2: topic girls, girls interested in the thrills and chills and
- 26:26Speaker 2: the haunted kind of-ness, as it were.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Girls who were really into The Nightmare Before Christmas in
- 26:31Speaker 1: middle school.
- 26:32Speaker 2: The Tower of Terror on a world building level, absolutely loved.
- 26:36Speaker 2: A great ride. The drop was really not as scary
- 26:39Speaker 2: as I thought it would be, but still incredible. The
- 26:42Speaker 2: Haunted Mansion was a ride for children. It is a
- 26:49Speaker 2: kind of, it's a small world after all, kind of
- 26:53Speaker 2: like ride you take a nap on. And I was
- 26:57Speaker 2: truly so underwhelmed because you had talked it up so much.
- 27:01Speaker 2: But what I realized after.
- 27:02Speaker 1: But I have so much nostalgia tied to it.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That's what I realized after is that it's about nostalgia
- 27:07Speaker 2: and also tis the season. We're here in Orlando the
- 27:10Speaker 2: month of October. We must go to the Haunted Mansion ride.
- 27:13Speaker 1: And you know what? You were kind of gagged by
- 27:16Speaker 1: the dancing scene in the dining room.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yes, I love.
- 27:19Speaker 1: With the Pepper's ghost effect.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I love the holograms. I love the dancing ghosts. I
- 27:25Speaker 2: thought the ride was beautiful. But it was an extremely
- 27:30Speaker 2: snoozy ride.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Did you like when we got turned into ghosts at
- 27:34Speaker 1: the end?
- 27:35Speaker 2: I love that part, actually. I forgot about that. That
- 27:38Speaker 2: was incredible.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I do wish we had some sort of photograph of that.
- 27:44Speaker 2: There's a version of that in the Avatar ride that
- 27:47Speaker 2: I've heard about that I kind of wish we had experienced,
- 27:49Speaker 2: but we didn't have time to go to that.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Oh, where they turn you into an... It's not really...
- 27:54Speaker 1: It's like very generic. It's not actually like tailored to you.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Oh, good to know. But I want to say... That
- 28:02Speaker 2: by the time we had gotten to Monsters Unchained, I was,
- 28:04Speaker 2: at this point, a little skeptical of Rose's curation. Because
- 28:08Speaker 2: I was like, well, is Rose just taking me?
- 28:10Speaker 1: Fuck my drive.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I was like, is Rose just taking me on another
- 28:13Speaker 2: kind of haunted ride for the nostalgia, for the seasonal
- 28:17Speaker 2: nature of it? No. This was, next to Stardust Razors,
- 28:21Speaker 2: the best ride that I rode, that I rided. And
- 28:25Speaker 2: let me tell you, girl, I want to, I'm thinking
- 28:29Speaker 2: about it still. I want to, we got, we finished
- 28:32Speaker 2: our first ride at Monsters Unchained and I said, let's
- 28:36Speaker 2: go again. And we did.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And we did, shimmediately.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Shimmediately.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Because I know the hack.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Because Rose knows the hack on how to ride again.
- 28:43Speaker 2: We rode it two times in a row. It is
- 28:45Speaker 2: a fabulous ride. I would like to, I want to
- 28:48Speaker 2: go back just to ride Monsters Unchained.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It's incredible. I have gone back. I have now been
- 28:53Speaker 1: to Epic Universe three times in two years. And I
- 28:57Speaker 1: have ridden Monsters Unchained, as of this trip, 13 times. Spooky.
- 29:03Speaker 2: So wait, does that mean that... How many times... What
- 29:05Speaker 2: was the most number of times you rode it? In
- 29:08Speaker 2: one trip? Like five?
- 29:13Speaker 1: Six?
- 29:14Speaker 2: What?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I rode it six times the last time I
- 29:16Speaker 1: was there.
- 29:19Speaker 2: And I understand that, actually. Because I have experienced it myself. We...
- 29:25Speaker 2: If you are interested in anything regarding the Universal Monsters
- 29:29Speaker 2: or Monsters Unchained, you should go and subscribe to our Patreon, Plugiana,
- 29:33Speaker 2: patreon.com slash shagavirgin, because our bonus episode focuses on the
- 29:38Speaker 2: Universal Monsters as curated by... the Monsters Unchained ride. But
- 29:44Speaker 2: it was the best dark ride. It was incredible. I
- 29:47Speaker 2: loved the other dark rides we've been on, but this
- 29:51Speaker 2: was the one to talk about.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Talk about. Talk about. It just has everything you want.
- 29:56Speaker 1: It has a really cool... Ride mechanism, you are in
- 30:02Speaker 1: a seat that is connected to this sort of robotic
- 30:04Speaker 1: arm that can really like swing you around like anywhere
- 30:08Speaker 1: you want to go. It has the most animatronics I've
- 30:12Speaker 1: ever seen on a single ride. It's just animatronic after
- 30:16Speaker 1: animatronic after animatronic and amazingly integrated with the screen scenes,
- 30:23Speaker 1: which are so well done. It is, there's plenty of
- 30:27Speaker 1: really good jump scares that get me every time.
- 30:30Speaker 2: The stylization.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Both times we got on.
- 30:34Speaker 2: The stylization is really timeless. Like it's, you would worry that,
- 30:38Speaker 2: you know, classic universal monsters, they're trying to make them
- 30:43Speaker 2: hyper contemporary, make them really like placed in like 2026.
- 30:48Speaker 2: But they felt like they struck this balance between vintage
- 30:53Speaker 2: and monsters, classic nostalgia around the IP of the mummy, Dracula,
- 31:01Speaker 2: the werewolf, et cetera, that felt still totally up to
- 31:06Speaker 2: date in how polished, clean, sickening.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And you know why I think that is? It's because
- 31:12Speaker 1: they made them all sexy.
- 31:14Speaker 2: They made them all kind of sexy. Let me tell you-
- 31:16Speaker 2: Which we get into more on our bonus episode. We
- 31:19Speaker 2: talk about the suckability of the monsters. I think something
- 31:22Speaker 2: that is really of note is that the Dracula is
- 31:26Speaker 2: barefoot in this ride.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So if you've ever wanted to perv on Dracula's feet,
- 31:32Speaker 1: get yourself to Orlando, girl.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Babes, feet for free. Actually, not for free. The Epic
- 31:37Speaker 2: Universe costs money to go there.
- 31:39Speaker 1: The whole trip is very expensive.
- 31:41Speaker 2: But I will also say, just while we're here, that
- 31:44Speaker 2: Dracula is barefoot, much like the guests at our hotel,
- 31:50Speaker 2: the Pacific Royale. Girl, what is it?
- 31:53Speaker 1: The Royal Pacific.
- 31:55Speaker 2: No, the Pacific Royale is better.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I'm changing it. Lowe's Royal Pacific, where we stayed, which
- 31:59Speaker 1: was lovely for the most part.
- 32:02Speaker 2: For the most part, because for whatever reason, at this resort,
- 32:07Speaker 2: people who have paid good money to be here and
- 32:11Speaker 2: are supposed to be respectable citizens, civilians in this place.
- 32:17Speaker 1: In this shared space with other people.
- 32:19Speaker 2: In this shared space. running around the lobby with no shoes.
- 32:23Speaker 2: And I'm not talking children, although children were in fact barefoot,
- 32:27Speaker 2: grown adults.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And it's not like they wandered in from the pool
- 32:31Speaker 1: because they had to use the bathroom. They were just
- 32:35Speaker 1: raw dogging the hotel lobby floor.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And, Raw dugging, that means no sock divas. No socks.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Bare feet.
- 32:43Speaker 1: And unashamed of their barefootedness.
- 32:46Speaker 2: What is up with that? What is up with that?
- 32:48Speaker 2: It is like, it is like so like, it is
- 32:52Speaker 2: so actually like grotesque.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It was baffling. Respect yourself. But thankfully, there were other
- 32:58Speaker 1: things in the hotel that made up for it.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Like the nachos that we ate by the pool on
- 33:05Speaker 1: Sunday were incredible.
- 33:08Speaker 2: The breakfast.
- 33:09Speaker 1: To die for.
- 33:11Speaker 2: While we're in this complaint section, sorry, I know we'll
- 33:14Speaker 2: get back to haunted houses, but I just have to say,
- 33:18Speaker 2: when we were in Super Mario World at Epic Universe,
- 33:23Speaker 2: there was no Dixie Kong. Okay? There was no Dixie Kong.
- 33:27Speaker 2: There's Donkey Kong. There's Diddy Kong. Where is Dixie Kong?
- 33:31Speaker 2: Our shuttle to Epic Universe pulls up. Biggest character on
- 33:36Speaker 2: the bus, Dixie Kong.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, my God. That is really crazy.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Crazy. I'm like, oh, my God. I forgot about Dixie Kong.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Dixie Kong's going to be at Super Mario World. I'm
- 33:46Speaker 2: so excited. I literally like my Adderall was hitting Rose.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I was Jones and I was ready.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I was like, oh, my God.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I'm so excited for Dixie Kong. There was nary a
- 33:53Speaker 2: Dixie Kong character. Not one single piece of Dixie Kong souvenirs, merch,
- 34:00Speaker 2: not a mural, not a sticker.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It's possible she might have been represented on the ride,
- 34:06Speaker 1: which we did not go on because the single rider
- 34:09Speaker 1: line was closed and the wait time was way too long.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Right, that's true.
- 34:11Speaker 1: But the fact that there was no merch available for
- 34:14Speaker 1: her and she was advertised on the side of the
- 34:17Speaker 1: shuttle is really crazy. I could understand it if she's
- 34:22Speaker 1: a sort of lesser known Mario character and she's just
- 34:24Speaker 1: not present at all, but to have her on the
- 34:27Speaker 1: side of the bus... And then have her nowhere else.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That's misogyny.
- 34:32Speaker 2: It's misogyny. And it's also Latina erasure. Because obviously Dixie
- 34:36Speaker 2: Kong is famously Latina. She's canonically Latina. We know this. And,
- 34:40Speaker 2: you know, that insult to injury with the fact that
- 34:43Speaker 2: there was no representation for Funky Kong either.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Okay?
- 34:46Speaker 2: Funky Kong, iconic-like character in the Donkey Kong universe. It
- 34:52Speaker 2: is simply Donkey Kong wearing gas station sunglasses, a wife beater,
- 34:56Speaker 2: and a bandana.
- 34:57Speaker 1: He is.
- 34:59Speaker 2: on i mean she is on my reading a non-binary
- 35:03Speaker 2: butch trans femme and i also latina i was not
- 35:07Speaker 2: expecting there to be funky kong merch but i was
- 35:10Speaker 2: kind of like look it's epic universe like they should
- 35:12Speaker 2: have if if you have a souvenir shop just represent
- 35:16Speaker 2: every character just have just one little statuette one pin
- 35:22Speaker 2: a keychain like You should have every single character represented
- 35:26Speaker 2: in these souvenir shops. And we were hunting, Rose. It's
- 35:29Speaker 2: not like we went to a souvenir shop and they were.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Like, oh, that's it. No. We were check hunting for
- 35:34Speaker 1: Dixie Kong. Yes.
- 35:35Speaker 2: We went to the Capitol. We looked for evidence. Similar
- 35:39Speaker 2: issue at the Toon Lagoon at Disney. There was Popeye,
- 35:47Speaker 2: no olive oil.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Misogyny strikes again.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Misogyny strikes again. Lots of Popeye merch. Lots of Popeye,
- 35:54Speaker 2: you know, cutouts, tunes. No olive oil. No olive oil
- 35:59Speaker 2: representation whatsoever.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Disrespectful. Thankfully, tons of Betty Boop and Kathy. Right.
- 36:08Speaker 2: No Kathy souvenirs.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Yes. And I would have bought some Kathy merch.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You better believe.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Well, this is, you know, money on the table for them, Rose.
- 36:17Speaker 2: And if they wanted to hire us to consult on
- 36:20Speaker 2: the future curation of their gift shops, we actually would
- 36:23Speaker 2: slay that.
- 36:24Speaker 1: We are extremely available and interested.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Yes. It's okay because I have secured my own Funky
- 36:30Speaker 2: Kong statuette.
- 36:31Speaker 1: And I'm so happy to hear that.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Let's talk about Halloween Horror Nights, which was the first
- 36:37Speaker 1: night we did, which I do believe on my part
- 36:40Speaker 1: was incredibly smart planning. So smart. Because I think, as
- 36:43Speaker 1: you said at one point, if that had been towards
- 36:45Speaker 1: the end of the trip, you would have left.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I am, as I've discovered, I mean, I already
- 36:51Speaker 2: knew this about myself, but I was excited to go regardless.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I don't really care about haunted houses. I don't think
- 36:59Speaker 2: they're for me. It's not that I really like or
- 37:04Speaker 2: dislike them. It's just that I don't know if I
- 37:06Speaker 2: love the experience of getting run up on.
- 37:10Speaker 1: But you certainly enjoyed it as we were doing it.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I enjoyed waiting in line with your sisters and gossiping
- 37:17Speaker 2: and playing the very fun game Spot My Crush. Where
- 37:20Speaker 2: while waiting in line, one of us says, Spot My Crush.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And then we have to look around and see if
- 37:25Speaker 2: we can guess who is the hottie that one of
- 37:28Speaker 2: us is crushing on. And it was always extremely obvious.
- 37:31Speaker 2: It was always extremely obvious. It was always guessable within
- 37:33Speaker 2: three seconds. And I also do.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I like just experiencing it with you guys. So, like,
- 37:44Speaker 2: time well spent. But do I ever need to go
- 37:46Speaker 2: to any haunted house ever again?
- 37:48Speaker 1: No, I don't. That saddens me to hear because I
- 37:51Speaker 1: love haunted houses. I love being scared. Love screaming. Love it.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Love it for you and with you.
- 37:58Speaker 1: We went to three haunted houses because the lines were
- 38:02Speaker 1: extremely long. And that's sort of, you know, all we
- 38:05Speaker 1: had the energy for. We did Hellraiser, Cybergoria. And Evil
- 38:11Speaker 1: Dead Burn. Which was your favorite?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Evil Dead Burn had, to me, the scariest effects, the
- 38:17Speaker 2: scariest world. I think because it was the most realist,
- 38:22Speaker 2: where Hellraiser and Cybergoria are based on a kind of
- 38:25Speaker 2: fantasy IP, it was really, really terrifying to me. I
- 38:29Speaker 2: think it had, there's a moment with it like a
- 38:31Speaker 2: demonic dog that's really, really scary.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I did appreciate Evil Dead Burn. I did find
- 38:39Speaker 1: it scary, even though I don't really love that movie,
- 38:43Speaker 1: which we did end up watching in our hotel room
- 38:45Speaker 1: one night. And I think you also had a lot
- 38:48Speaker 1: of problems with it.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it didn't really make... I loved the kills. I
- 38:51Speaker 2: loved the violence. I thought that there were some sickening
- 38:56Speaker 2: set pieces, but not a ton of logic and follow through.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I thought Cybergoria was the scariest in terms of the
- 39:05Speaker 1: scare actors. I thought their prosthetics were really scary, but
- 39:09Speaker 1: my favorite was Hellraiser just because I'm such a huge,
- 39:14Speaker 1: huge Hellraiser fan. It was the one house that was
- 39:18Speaker 1: like non-negotiable for me. We had to go and we
- 39:21Speaker 1: went on it first. And it, like, yes, it was scary.
- 39:25Speaker 1: um and honestly but really what made it my favorite
- 39:32Speaker 1: was how insane and accurate the production was like there
- 39:38Speaker 1: are scenes in it that are ripped straight from the
- 39:42Speaker 1: movies um it's really incredible and impressive it felt like
- 39:48Speaker 1: you were on a soundstage walking through the set of Hellbound,
- 39:54Speaker 1: Hellraiser 2. It integrated things from all of the movies
- 40:00Speaker 1: that matter, kind of, which I would say are about
- 40:04Speaker 1: the first three, maybe four, The.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Prosthetics, the makeup looks so much like the films.
- 40:12Speaker 1: It was really beautiful. So many pinheads, really good chatterer makeup,
- 40:18Speaker 1: really good female Cenobite makeup, some good Frank Cotton representation.
- 40:23Speaker 1: They do have the Jesus wept moment. It was just
- 40:28Speaker 1: like such a gleeful, satisfying experience for me as a
- 40:34Speaker 1: diehard Hellraiser head. A pinhead, if you will. A pinhead,
- 40:39Speaker 1: if you will. I really, really need to get the
- 40:42Speaker 1: Nintendo Switch 2 so that I can play Hellraiser Revival,
- 40:45Speaker 1: the new game.
- 40:47Speaker 2: We're going to wait until Black Friday when the Switch
- 40:49Speaker 2: 2 is lightly discounted. We're each going to buy one.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I'm going to get the Legend of Zelda remaster. And
- 40:57Speaker 2: you're going to get the Hellraiser game.
- 40:59Speaker 1: And if anyone wants to maybe... Sponsor that. Sponsor that.
- 41:04Speaker 1: If anyone wants to send us to Switch 2s or
- 41:06Speaker 1: someone works at Nintendo. Sign up for the DMs. Women
- 41:11Speaker 1: in STEM, trans gamers, we need your support.
- 41:16Speaker 2: We do.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Let's talk about food because we had some really lovely
- 41:22Speaker 1: culinary experiences.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I don't know if I had lovely culinary experiences.
- 41:27Speaker 1: No, you actually got very sick after eating Olive Garden.
- 41:30Speaker 2: And I mean, there was nothing that we ate that
- 41:33Speaker 2: made me feel good. Let's be clear.
- 41:35Speaker 1: No, we were both.
- 41:36Speaker 2: There was nothing we ate that made me feel good afterward.
- 41:38Speaker 1: We were bricked up all weekend. And I don't just
- 41:41Speaker 1: mean that we were horny. We were unable to shit.
- 41:45Speaker 1: We could not shit all weekend. There was nary an
- 41:49Speaker 1: ounce of fiber to be found anywhere in Orlando. What
- 41:53Speaker 1: I did appreciate was that our last meal with my sisters,
- 41:57Speaker 1: we went to Outback Steakhouse and we had a waiter there.
- 41:59Speaker 1: who did something that a waiter has not done to
- 42:02Speaker 1: me in a while, which was troll me. When I
- 42:04Speaker 1: asked for bread, the waiter pretended that Outback no longer
- 42:09Speaker 1: served bread.
- 42:09Speaker 2: They were like, oh, we don't do that anymore.
- 42:12Speaker 1: And then, of course, you know, he came back later
- 42:14Speaker 1: with a tray full of bread. But I would have
- 42:16Speaker 1: imagined that that kind of joke would end before he
- 42:20Speaker 1: left the table. But he would say, oh, I'm just kidding.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I'm going to get the bread. But he fully walked
- 42:25Speaker 1: away for a couple minutes. Yes.
- 42:27Speaker 2: And Rose even said she was like, I think I
- 42:30Speaker 2: just saw some bread. And he goes, that was a
- 42:33Speaker 2: baked potato. Lie.
- 42:34Speaker 1: He gaslit me. He gaslit me. And in that time
- 42:40Speaker 1: that he was away, we could have been doing anything.
- 42:42Speaker 1: We could have been leaving a Yelp review. We could
- 42:43Speaker 1: have been calling corporate on his ass. Fran thought he
- 42:47Speaker 1: was hot, weirdly.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I thought he was a little hot.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I did not agree. I thought they were much sexier people.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I think that he had a kind of swag.
- 42:54Speaker 1: In the lines that we were at, there were sexier
- 42:57Speaker 1: go-go dancers at Southern Nights, the gay nightclub that we
- 43:02Speaker 1: went to with my sisters. Love my experience at Southern Nights.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Love my experience.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Okay, I had fun. It's kind of like how you
- 43:09Speaker 1: felt about the haunted houses. I did not. enjoy it
- 43:13Speaker 1: i would not go back it.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Had some of the worst i don't think i would
- 43:16Speaker 2: go back it had some of the worst you literally
- 43:19Speaker 2: said to my sisters that you were going back the
- 43:21Speaker 2: next time you were in orlando oh yeah okay okay
- 43:23Speaker 2: maybe i mean well here's the thing is like if
- 43:25Speaker 2: all my friends were going i would go i don't
- 43:28Speaker 2: think i would go on my own accord i don't
- 43:29Speaker 2: think i would go by myself.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Under what circumstances would all your friends be going They want.
- 43:35Speaker 2: To go to the Mecca of, uh, gay bars in Florida.
- 43:40Speaker 2: That's what, I mean, it's not really, it's a.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Great place to go. If you want to, um, be
- 43:45Speaker 1: in the rain surrounded by literal teenagers, because yes, it
- 43:48Speaker 1: has an 18 plus section.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Was it 18 plus night or was it the section?
- 43:53Speaker 2: It has a section that is 18 plus. It was,
- 43:56Speaker 2: that's so crazy to me. It was so discomforting. And yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I'm just like, um, uh, Okay, were the drag shows
- 44:06Speaker 2: in the 18 plus section or no? Was that a
- 44:08Speaker 2: separate section?
- 44:10Speaker 1: I don't... Actually, I think maybe the 18 plus section
- 44:13Speaker 1: was just the area with the pool tables and then Stiffy's,
- 44:21Speaker 1: the sort of dark, sexy go-go bar.
- 44:24Speaker 2: There were like three bars inside this bar.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Which had really hot dancers, one of whom... all at
- 44:31Speaker 1: varying levels of being able to dance and attractiveness. There
- 44:35Speaker 1: was one who was a really good dancer, but had
- 44:36Speaker 1: a very unfortunate goatee. There was a straight one who
- 44:40Speaker 1: like could kind of dance, but was really hot and
- 44:43Speaker 1: like just his cock would not stop bouncing up and down.
- 44:47Speaker 1: And then there was an insanely sexy sort of bear
- 44:51Speaker 1: dancer who was the worst dancer I've ever seen. Had
- 44:56Speaker 1: no rhythm. And yet had a huge crowd around him
- 44:58Speaker 1: because of how hot he was.
- 45:00Speaker 2: He was extremely sexy. Look.
- 45:02Speaker 1: There were also just a bunch of bears making out
- 45:05Speaker 1: with each other. And Fran and I were like just
- 45:08Speaker 1: staring at them.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I mean.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Fully, fully like.
- 45:11Speaker 2: If they're going to give a show.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Perving. Well, their cocks were not out. No, our cocks
- 45:16Speaker 1: were out.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Oh. If they're going to give a show, we're going
- 45:19Speaker 2: to watch. Yeah. There were three bars inside of the
- 45:23Speaker 2: Southern Nights kind of bar. And. Stiffy's was the one
- 45:27Speaker 2: that felt most like a New York bar. It felt
- 45:30Speaker 2: the most adult... Or a Manhattan bar, I would say.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I also want to say.
- 45:36Speaker 1: A Hell's Kitchen bar.
- 45:37Speaker 2: We saw Roxy Andrews perform at Southern Nights, her home bar,
- 45:41Speaker 2: which is like seeing Jesus Christ in Bethlehem on Christmas Day.
- 45:47Speaker 2: It was literally such a... We were so lucky to
- 45:52Speaker 2: witness that.
- 45:53Speaker 1: And also... She sucked.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Well, okay. So here's something, and this is, if you've
- 45:59Speaker 2: ever been to like the Palace in Miami or like
- 46:03Speaker 2: other drag bars in Florida, something that I've noticed as
- 46:09Speaker 2: a connoisseur of drag, I've seen drag in many different
- 46:12Speaker 2: places across the country and across the world. Something that
- 46:15Speaker 2: I've noticed specifically about Florida drag is that it is
- 46:20Speaker 2: customary and perfectly acceptable for a queen to lip-sync the
- 46:27Speaker 2: first verse, maybe the chorus, and then after that, kind
- 46:31Speaker 2: of stop and just lightly lip-sync while mostly walking around
- 46:37Speaker 2: the room and collecting tips like this. And it wasn't
- 46:41Speaker 2: like a... Usually, when you watch drag, a queen will
- 46:46Speaker 2: reserve the beats of the song or the kind of
- 46:49Speaker 2: in-media res moments to collect tips and then return to lip-syncing.
- 46:54Speaker 1: No. No.
- 46:55Speaker 2: It is an Orlando queen or a Florida queen knows
- 46:59Speaker 2: that in their culture, it is perfectly acceptable to kind
- 47:03Speaker 2: of stop lip syncing and just walk around the bar
- 47:08Speaker 2: collecting tips like a banker. Like it was truly incredible
- 47:13Speaker 2: to watch. I love the people, love the culture in Orlando, Florida.
- 47:17Speaker 2: No shade. But also watching Roxy Andrews do that, a
- 47:22Speaker 2: little underwhelming.
- 47:23Speaker 1: In a rainbow jumpsuit with a rainbow umbrella, lip-syncing, quote-unquote
- 47:28Speaker 1: lip-syncing to Umbrella by Rihanna.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 47:31Speaker 1: The one queen who was giving more than all the
- 47:34Speaker 1: other queens was the one who did the Hannah Montana
- 47:36Speaker 1: mega mix. Yes. And I did really appreciate her for that.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Yeah, she looked good.
- 47:40Speaker 1: But all in all, what a beautiful, stunning trip to Florida.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I can't wait for us to go back. We had
- 47:45Speaker 1: such a good time. Let's talk about.
- 47:49Speaker 2: In our last 10 minutes.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Yeah, our last 10 minutes. Let's talk briefly about a
- 47:55Speaker 1: new cartoon that Fran forced me to watch.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Okay, please. Force you? You would have, should have watched
- 48:04Speaker 2: it anyways because this series is taking over my Twitter feed.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I don't know what it's doing for your Twitter feed.
- 48:12Speaker 1: It's not represented at all.
- 48:14Speaker 2: I have to tell you that.
- 48:15Speaker 1: But I'm also not checking Twitter like that.
- 48:18Speaker 2: We here at Like A Virgin, we care about Avatar
- 48:20Speaker 2: The Last Airbender. We care about the universe. We had
- 48:23Speaker 2: discussed the Avatar Aang movie that came out earlier this year,
- 48:27Speaker 2: saying its praises. There's a new series out called Avatar
- 48:32Speaker 2: Seven Havens on Paramount Plus that is delivering what I
- 48:39Speaker 2: really needed an airbender, a kind of bender franchise to deliver,
- 48:44Speaker 2: which is a primary character who is a homosexual. And
- 48:50Speaker 2: not just homosexual, as Jay, this character, is. But Jay
- 48:57Speaker 2: is in a quite radical, maybe perhaps first of its kind, representationally,
- 49:04Speaker 2: femme for femme relationship with another character named Datu.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I don't think his boyfriend is femme. His boyfriend is
- 49:11Speaker 1: a beefy, beefy guy. He does have kind of a
- 49:16Speaker 1: queeny voice.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Are you telling me that there's no such thing as
- 49:20Speaker 2: beefy femmes? Hello.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Hello, Funky Kong.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Hello, Funky Kong. Hello, me. Hello. Second of all, Datu
- 49:28Speaker 2: has earrings in both ears and they're like full studs
- 49:33Speaker 2: and also is a baker. Okay.
- 49:37Speaker 1: You can be a mask baker.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Or you can be a femme baker. I think that
- 49:42Speaker 2: they are both beefy femmes. I think it is a
- 49:45Speaker 2: femme for femme relationship. The virgins who've watched the show
- 49:48Speaker 2: can agree or disagree with me. Get into it. But look,
- 49:52Speaker 2: aside from the thirst that I have for these characters,
- 49:57Speaker 2: Jay has a relationship with a character named Cardick that.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Emphasis on dick.
- 50:08Speaker 2: That Rose... It is so like a virgin coded like
- 50:12Speaker 2: what they have. It is so daddy son, is it not?
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's giving family dick. Boots. It's giving say uncle.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Do you think you could describe the plot as you
- 50:23Speaker 2: did watch the first three episodes?
- 50:24Speaker 1: No, I've watched all six episodes because you forced me to.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And I will not be watching more.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Oh, really? Okay, tell me why. Well, tell me the
- 50:35Speaker 2: plot first and then tell me why.
- 50:36Speaker 1: The plot is that A couple hundred years after Legend
- 50:41Speaker 1: of Korra, which already took place after Aang's lifetime, we
- 50:48Speaker 1: are now in a sort of post-apocalyptic world in which
- 50:51Speaker 1: everyone believes that Korra kind of led to the destruction
- 50:58Speaker 1: of society as we know it. And the survivors live
- 51:03Speaker 1: in these seven havens. All benders are forcefully conscripted into
- 51:09Speaker 1: paramilitary service. And there are two twin airbenders.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Avatars.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Twin avatars who are from the Earthbending Kingdom who discover
- 51:24Speaker 1: each other as they have been living with no memory
- 51:29Speaker 1: of their pasts.
- 51:30Speaker 2: And their discovery of each other is a very like,
- 51:34Speaker 2: The Parent Trap.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 51:35Speaker 2: It's like, your birthday's October 11th? Like, it was so, like,
- 51:40Speaker 2: oh my god, like, your parents met on a cruise ship,
- 51:42Speaker 2: my parents met on... Like, it was very, like, exactly
- 51:45Speaker 2: The Parent Trap in a way that I found so satiating.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Why I don't love it and won't be watching anymore
- 51:51Speaker 1: is because the show did remind me that Avatar as
- 51:56Speaker 1: a franchise is, first and foremost, primarily for children. And...
- 52:04Speaker 1: The reason, and you know, I watched Avatar The Last
- 52:07Speaker 1: Airbender in COVID. I don't think I would have watched
- 52:10Speaker 1: it under other circumstances. I'm so glad I did. It's incredible.
- 52:14Speaker 1: But I did watch the subsequent Avatar media because of
- 52:20Speaker 1: my appreciation for that original series.
- 52:22Speaker 2: You watched Legend of Korra.
- 52:23Speaker 1: And Legend of Korra because it continued that story. I
- 52:26Speaker 1: watched the Avatar Aang movie because it had those characters
- 52:31Speaker 1: who I care about. This show... It takes place so
- 52:35Speaker 1: long after the canon that I care about. It doesn't
- 52:39Speaker 1: feature any of those characters. And it's giving. It's a
- 52:43Speaker 1: show for children. And it's just, it's simply not for me.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I watched it for you so we could discuss. I
- 52:49Speaker 1: wanted to support you. You liked Korra? I liked Korra.
- 52:53Speaker 2: Korra's much more adult, I think, than these other two.
- 52:55Speaker 1: It is. And I, like, while I did appreciate it,
- 53:01Speaker 1: Korra was just like, I think the first couple seasons
- 53:04Speaker 1: are a bit rough. And I just like generally didn't really.
- 53:09Speaker 2: I'm in the middle of watching it. Does it finish
- 53:11Speaker 2: off nicely? Or like what are the parts that you
- 53:13Speaker 2: liked about Korra?
- 53:14Speaker 1: I did like the end of Korra. Yeah, it's now
- 53:22Speaker 1: been a while. Like I watched it six years ago,
- 53:25Speaker 1: so I don't truly remember the things that I liked
- 53:28Speaker 1: about Korra.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Did you read the statement from... Janet Varney, the voice
- 53:32Speaker 2: of Korra after she watched Avatar Seven Havens.
- 53:36Speaker 1: No, what'd she say?
- 53:37Speaker 2: It's in the document if you want to be.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I was like, I'm sorry. I was like laughing because.
- 53:43Speaker 1: It was so dramatic. Why don't you read it? Or
- 53:45Speaker 1: do you want me to read it?
- 53:46Speaker 2: It's quite long.
- 53:47Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm going to read it.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Yeah, read it. Okay.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I sobbed through this pilot episode. I was shattered. I
- 53:54Speaker 1: cannot emphasize it enough. I finished it and my partner
- 53:56Speaker 1: was like, so? And I was like, I can't even
- 53:59Speaker 1: tell you what happened. I'm so upset, crying. And I
- 54:02Speaker 1: was like, I'm so worried about all the people that
- 54:05Speaker 1: love Cora and already defend Cora. And I had to
- 54:07Speaker 1: go back and watch with fresh eyes after I had
- 54:09Speaker 1: deeply grieved. I know we don't know what will happen
- 54:12Speaker 1: and I want to keep the faith, but who knows?
- 54:15Speaker 1: But just for me, watching children talk about her as
- 54:17Speaker 1: if she's a monster was heartbreaking. I mean, it really hurt.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I'm not her, but I know what she means to
- 54:21Speaker 1: some people and it just really hurt. Ma'am, this is
- 54:25Speaker 1: a Wendy's.
- 54:26Speaker 2: This is a Wendy's.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Touch grass. Also, it's very clear that these people have
- 54:30Speaker 1: been misled that this is like propaganda and that the
- 54:35Speaker 1: series will deconstruct this notion that Korra is a villain.
- 54:39Speaker 1: So like, girl, grow up. It's a show for children.
- 54:42Speaker 2: The fact that they don't like, the fact that the
- 54:45Speaker 2: kind of history has been passed down to villainize Korra is,
- 54:49Speaker 2: to me, so interesting. Like, that's dark. That's like, true
- 54:54Speaker 2: to life.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Yes, it's very much building on the cultural sentiment around Korra,
- 55:00Speaker 1: which was so nasty at the time it was airing
- 55:03Speaker 1: and since. Korra is the most hated part of the
- 55:07Speaker 1: Avatar franchise. So to me, it feels more like meta
- 55:11Speaker 1: commentary on that.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Yeah. And also, girl, you're like, I know I'm not her.
- 55:18Speaker 2: It's like, girl, do you?
- 55:20Speaker 1: But do you?
- 55:21Speaker 2: But do you? Because this statement would really suggest that
- 55:26Speaker 2: people think this about you, which they don't. You are
- 55:29Speaker 2: a voice actor. This is a character.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Man, this is a Wendy's. It's really, man, this is
- 55:35Speaker 1: a Wendy's. It's really like we all moved on and
- 55:39Speaker 1: the party ended at 6 a.m. and this guy's still
- 55:43Speaker 1: here dancing. It's like just, girl, this is a character
- 55:48Speaker 1: you played. What, like 15 years ago? Maybe more?
- 55:53Speaker 2: So long ago. And also just, like, homophobic. If you
- 55:57Speaker 2: don't like this series, then you hate queer people. Because
- 56:03Speaker 2: this is the first canonically faggot-bending franchise... And I think
- 56:11Speaker 2: that I'm honestly, I really think you should reconsider and
- 56:14Speaker 2: I think you should keep watching Rose so that we
- 56:15Speaker 2: can talk about it. I'm not going to. I don't
- 56:16Speaker 2: want to talk about it on the show. I literally
- 56:17Speaker 2: just want to talk about it with you personally.
- 56:19Speaker 1: I think you can find plenty other people to be
- 56:21Speaker 1: in community with. Okay.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Well, then I guess.
- 56:23Speaker 1: In regards to Avatar.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I will be sending my Jay Cardick Datu porn to
- 56:28Speaker 2: someone else then.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Okay. Well, here's the thing.
- 56:31Speaker 2: You're interested in the porn.
- 56:33Speaker 1: No, I need to know how old Jay is supposed
- 56:35Speaker 1: to be and you need to know that.
- 56:37Speaker 2: He's in his 20s. It's like a chorus situation where
- 56:40Speaker 2: they're in their 20s.
