- 0:02Speaker 1: Look at that lighthouse. That's the ultimate expression of foulo
- 0:06Speaker 1: centric technocracy, violating mother Sky.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I thought they were just toss up boats, could see them.
- 0:11Speaker 1: No March, Everything penus shaped is bad.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Four Finger discount dude.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Welcome to four Finger Discounts. But this week we're here
- 0:34Speaker 4: to review an episode that, honestly, I've been very looking
- 0:37Speaker 4: forward to getting stuck into. It's an episode that is
- 0:40Speaker 4: very divisive at the time. Apparently it was absolutely just
- 0:44Speaker 4: panned by critics, panned by fans. How dare you do this,
- 0:47Speaker 4: Matt silence to us diehoud Simpsons fans, it is that
- 0:50Speaker 4: ninety show.
- 0:51Speaker 5: I'm Dando and I am guy. It's coming to fresh
- 0:53Speaker 5: from the fresh from the nineties. This was a very
- 0:56Speaker 5: pleasurable step back in time for me. I've got to say,
- 0:58Speaker 5: I mean, look, the episode had it's pros and cons, shall.
- 1:02Speaker 4: We say, but I think it had way more pros
- 1:03Speaker 4: and cons though.
- 1:04Speaker 5: I really am I can't see the issue. I don't.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I am flabbergasted. I don't understand. It's season nineteen, everybody, right,
- 1:14Speaker 4: I get we still want some continuity, but I think
- 1:17Speaker 4: Matt does a good enough job at establishing at the
- 1:19Speaker 4: start that this is just not gonna be one of
- 1:21Speaker 4: those canon ones. It's just gonna be one that where
- 1:23Speaker 4: you just we fuck around with things. It's just gonna
- 1:25Speaker 4: be a bit of fun. It's more of a parody
- 1:27Speaker 4: of the floating timeline than anything.
- 1:29Speaker 5: It is. Let me put it to you this way,
- 1:31Speaker 5: yeah back when, let me take you way way way
- 1:34Speaker 5: back in time, backb even on the nineties, the time
- 1:35Speaker 5: and space to the nineteen seventies and even the early
- 1:38Speaker 5: nineteen eighties when I was reading Marvel comic books, and
- 1:40Speaker 5: one of the titles that I enjoyed most was called
- 1:43Speaker 5: what If Now.
- 1:44Speaker 4: And Matt's I'm a big comic book fan.
- 1:46Speaker 5: People will be aware of what If because Disney, Pluses
- 1:48Speaker 5: and Marvel have turned it into a TV series. But
- 1:51Speaker 5: what they did was the fine folks at Marvel, Stanley,
- 1:53Speaker 5: et cetera recognized, Okay, we've got established timelines and established
- 1:57Speaker 5: cannon for various characters, but what if here's a couple
- 2:01Speaker 5: of titles or a couple of things they had on
- 2:03Speaker 5: the covers. What if the Avengers had never been What
- 2:07Speaker 5: if Spider Man had kept his six arms? What if
- 2:09Speaker 5: Jane Foster had found the Hammer of Thought? What if
- 2:11Speaker 5: Everyone You Dared Evil was blind?
- 2:13Speaker 4: It's anthology of interest for fit drama, the what if machine?
- 2:16Speaker 4: What if Spider Man had joined the Fantastic Four, all
- 2:19Speaker 4: this kind of stuff, and it's the stuff that comic
- 2:21Speaker 4: book nerds and look nerds.
- 2:23Speaker 5: It's fun nerds. Are any strips to go? Wouldn't it
- 2:25Speaker 5: be finish? Deadhead? Wouldn't it be interesting in that? Just like that?
- 2:28Speaker 5: And if you push it, well, I saw myself as
- 2:31Speaker 5: a comic book guy on the on the common go.
- 2:34Speaker 5: And this is why they'll never make it a little
- 2:35Speaker 5: at the Rings movie, which is not a bad gag
- 2:39Speaker 5: in the overall scheme of thanks, but that's how I
- 2:42Speaker 5: viewed this episode. It's a it's a little branch off.
- 2:43Speaker 4: It's just fun. It's through the nineties. Oh yeah, I
- 2:47Speaker 4: thought it was just cool seeing the Simpsons, who were
- 2:49Speaker 4: arguably the most iconic pop culture license of the nineties.
- 2:53Speaker 4: There weren't many more bigger ones in the.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Simpsons and seeing them view through a nineties len.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Living in the nineties, but not as if the Simpsons
- 2:59Speaker 4: were a part of just the pop culture world. It
- 3:03Speaker 4: was just the sixth were actually part of the world
- 3:05Speaker 4: in the real world. They were the biggest thing in
- 3:06Speaker 4: the nineties, arguably besides well Scipho Get's reference here as well.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Cipher was another big one. It was just cool seeing
- 3:11Speaker 4: the world's collide, it was to Punt. Having attended.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Having said all that, I mean, it's not a great
- 3:20Speaker 5: episode in terms. I mean, the story's kind of flimsy,
- 3:23Speaker 5: and I didn't mind it.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I thought it felt like a nineties teen one of
- 3:26Speaker 4: those nineties movies where you know where it's going. It's
- 3:29Speaker 4: kind of cliche, but it's still a couple of good
- 3:32Speaker 4: songs here and there that make you sort of feel things. Yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 4: Empire Records. It's kind of wacky, kind of silly, but
- 3:37Speaker 4: like you still enjoy it because it felt like a
- 3:38Speaker 4: time capsule. I guess it's kind of felt like a
- 3:41Speaker 4: nineteen ninety seventeen comedy in my opinion.
- 3:44Speaker 5: That's a good way of putting it, certainly, And I
- 3:46Speaker 5: guess that it didn't really I suppose as job wasn't
- 3:50Speaker 5: to reveal anything new about Homer in Marge's relationship or
- 3:54Speaker 5: anything like that, or their family dynamic. I suppose it
- 3:57Speaker 5: took a little bit of a diversion here and there,
- 3:59Speaker 5: and look, some parts actually worked, but a lot of
- 4:02Speaker 5: it was just, oh, you're kind of playing the hits here,
- 4:05Speaker 5: and I know, sometimes we don't mind playing the hits.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Sometimes we enjoy seeing what is it, five faces for
- 4:10Speaker 5: radio or good Faces for radio.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Well, when they spend when they spent a lot of
- 4:13Speaker 4: episodes playing the shits.
- 4:15Speaker 5: That's true. Sometimes it's good to get the greatest hits.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, I just thought at various times because this
- 4:22Speaker 4: is an Avana story essentially, it's the story of Kirk
- 4:25Speaker 4: Obain's rise and fall through Homer, I was getting Homer's
- 4:28Speaker 4: Barbershop Quartet vibes one of those episodes where you could
- 4:32Speaker 4: argue that episode's not cannon either because it's never referenced
- 4:34Speaker 4: really again, no, I mean, it doesn't fuck around with
- 4:37Speaker 4: the timeline essentially, but it's just one of those things where, wait,
- 4:40Speaker 4: they were in this huge like a global phenomenon. It
- 4:42Speaker 4: doesn't really makes sense because it's never acknowledging and where
- 4:44Speaker 4: all these money go all that kind of stuff. Here,
- 4:47Speaker 4: it's kind of the same as I said, it also
- 4:48Speaker 4: is the timeline with it in the nineties. But if
- 4:51Speaker 4: you are a Beatles fan, you really enjoy that episode
- 4:54Speaker 4: Homes barber Quartet, But you can still enjoy it even
- 4:55Speaker 4: if you're not a Beatles fan. This one here, I
- 4:58Speaker 4: feel like I put it on for Elliott the other day,
- 5:00Speaker 4: which I was quite shocked at the needle moment, but
- 5:02Speaker 4: obviously it's explained as a joke later.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Wrong.
- 5:03Speaker 4: But he really enjoyed this. But I really enjoyed it
- 5:07Speaker 4: because I'm a Navana fan and I got the references.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I thought he did a really good job in this episode.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I really enjoyed it.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll tell you what. I'm well sort of jumping
- 5:15Speaker 5: ahead the favorite moments here, but when they kicked into
- 5:17Speaker 5: politically and correct, I'm like, not a bad song.
- 5:20Speaker 4: But most of are just parodies of Navana, so oh yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 4: very much of the.
- 5:22Speaker 5: All parodies of Navana and other bands of the grunge eur.
- 5:26Speaker 5: Oh god, damn it. I just realized that there might
- 5:29Speaker 5: be you might hit me with a trivia question, and
- 5:31Speaker 5: I'm thinking, oh, should have written this down.
- 5:33Speaker 4: No, I've actually got nothing in my trivia yet. I'll
- 5:35Speaker 4: just wing him on the spot. I'm going to do it.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I'm gonna do one now though. Oh okay, but I
- 5:43Speaker 5: guess I was looking at it also through looking at
- 5:45Speaker 5: the relationship of Homer and Marge, and I guess it
- 5:48Speaker 5: took it in a slightly different direction. We always tend
- 5:50Speaker 5: to view Marge as well. Homer's definitely punching above his weight,
- 5:55Speaker 5: and Marge perhaps sidelining her own dreams and her own
- 5:58Speaker 5: ambitions and maybe your own sort of self worth to
- 6:00Speaker 5: some degree by quite unquite settling the Homer.
- 6:03Speaker 4: But but I didn't fear that watching this one though.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Homa wasn't holding her back really in this I mean,
- 6:09Speaker 4: she had big dreams, but she was going to She
- 6:12Speaker 4: had big dreams go to college. She was like, yeah, sure,
- 6:13Speaker 4: I'll work hard so you can go to college.
- 6:16Speaker 5: He wasn't holding your back. He was working hard so
- 6:18Speaker 5: you could go. That's true. I guess one thing that
- 6:21Speaker 5: I was thinking was about how these two compliment each other.
- 6:25Speaker 5: And I guess in the real original canon Simpsons timeline,
- 6:29Speaker 5: how they I guess how Homer provides Marge with the
- 6:33Speaker 5: unconditional love that was maybe missing it in her childhood,
- 6:37Speaker 5: or the complete attention, complete focus, like this woman is
- 6:41Speaker 5: the world and I'm the one who sees that. I'm
- 6:43Speaker 5: the one who gets to give it to And yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 5: Marge is clear like that's great love. It terrible Jela personas.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Homer's self worth gets boosters as well as like, here's
- 6:56Speaker 5: this incredible woman who's actually.
- 6:58Speaker 4: In love with me, in love with me, so just
- 7:00Speaker 4: how we feel all the I wake up with day
- 7:04Speaker 4: and go how why I don't care.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I'm gonna tell I'm just gonna ride this train until
- 7:09Speaker 5: it goes up the tracks, mainly due to my poor locomotive.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Ship't don't let him meet Professor August.
- 7:16Speaker 5: That's the only I probably would have not been Professor
- 7:21Speaker 5: August certainly dressed like him. Okay, other than the sandals.
- 7:24Speaker 5: The sandals are terrible. What does he say to the
- 7:26Speaker 5: to the faculty lounge. What are those bikes called? I
- 7:31Speaker 5: don't know, but there's there's like reclining bike. That's like
- 7:34Speaker 5: it's just.
- 7:34Speaker 4: They're not pompous, but you're just like, what are you doing?
- 7:37Speaker 5: It's actually bitter for the It's a bike.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Yes, bike, here's the thing rolls reverse right If this
- 7:44Speaker 4: was a story. Season nineteen, Homer has a dream. Marge
- 7:48Speaker 4: takes up a job to pay for Homer's dream. He
- 7:51Speaker 4: then has a manager there who's a hot woman who
- 7:54Speaker 4: he falls for, and then leaves Marge to go with
- 7:57Speaker 4: the hot woman, we would be how dare you what
- 8:00Speaker 4: a brick here on? She's going March not a very
- 8:04Speaker 4: good person. I know that the story is supposed to
- 8:09Speaker 4: be that home is holding her back, but we've seen
- 8:13Speaker 4: how every other couple of Springfields living at that point
- 8:15Speaker 4: in time, they're just the same.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I don't think he's holding her back. Yeah. The other
- 8:19Speaker 5: thing is, though, I mean, these characters are going to
- 8:21Speaker 5: be what nineteen twenty? Yeah? Is that so their kids?
- 8:25Speaker 5: Their kids haven't really worked it out yet, just figuring
- 8:29Speaker 5: out who she is and what she wants. And sometimes
- 8:32Speaker 5: you get led astray by a worldly gentleman who's you know,
- 8:36Speaker 5: down with the down with the matriarchy. I was getting.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Have you ever seen the movie Loser with Jason Binks.
- 8:41Speaker 5: I haven't, actually I know of it. It's Yeah, by
- 8:44Speaker 5: the director of Clueless, and it's Yeah Jason Biggs and
- 8:47Speaker 5: Mina Savari from American Pie.
- 8:49Speaker 4: And so clips of that movie were used in the
- 8:52Speaker 4: film clip four teenage dirt Bag, one of the most
- 8:54Speaker 4: iconic songs of my childhood.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Right, well done by your buddy bring them Yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So if you haven't listened to my one of my
- 8:59Speaker 4: fat interviews, have ever done check out Brendan Brown the
- 9:02Speaker 4: least thing of Weeks. He came on the show and
- 9:04Speaker 4: we talked about Comeber what episode. I think it was
- 9:05Speaker 4: taught abut his career in the end, I think it did.
- 9:07Speaker 4: But it was just really, really, really fun. But that
- 9:09Speaker 4: was the first time that I heard the song with
- 9:12Speaker 4: the word gun still not cut out because they played
- 9:14Speaker 4: it on the sound. Yeah, it was just in the I.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Always wondered what he brought to school. I guess it
- 9:19Speaker 5: was a gun.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Yes, so it was a gun, and you can listen
- 9:21Speaker 4: to it on Spotify and it's just not cut out,
- 9:22Speaker 4: And just like at the time, it.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Was like you heard the word Strangely, it's probably more
- 9:28Speaker 5: triggering now that it's bizarre are actually bringing guns to school?
- 9:31Speaker 4: I mean that they were at the time as well.
- 9:33Speaker 4: That's why they had to cut it out because of
- 9:34Speaker 4: the Columbine. But I just remember that movie being it's
- 9:36Speaker 4: the first time I heard the word gun in the
- 9:39Speaker 4: Jope Bag song. And you watch it and you think
- 9:41Speaker 4: that the movie is going to be about what the
- 9:43Speaker 4: film because the film clip has a little story to
- 9:45Speaker 4: itself and it's sort of like takes. It's got the actors,
- 9:47Speaker 4: it's got Jason and Mina Mina playing roles in the
- 9:50Speaker 4: film clip, and you just assume that Loser is going
- 9:53Speaker 4: to be the teenage Joe Bag film clip. But in
- 9:55Speaker 4: movie Forum it's not at all as Jason Biggs is
- 9:59Speaker 4: a loser who goes unique falls for this girl, but
- 10:01Speaker 4: she's having a relationship with her professors.
- 10:04Speaker 5: That's right. So that's why I was just like, this
- 10:05Speaker 5: kind of feels like loser. Okay, interesting, Yeah, I'm about
- 10:08Speaker 5: to check out Loser one of these it's not that great.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Well maybe or maybe I could not, but yeah, over all,
- 10:16Speaker 4: I really really enjoyed this episode just purely because being
- 10:19Speaker 4: a nineties kid Nirvana fan references to sign I think
- 10:21Speaker 4: I really like the Seinfeld moment that.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Felt a bit on the nose to me, and all
- 10:26Speaker 5: at a lot of the references just felt like, hey,
- 10:29Speaker 5: remember the nineties. I felt like, what was that series?
- 10:31Speaker 5: We love the nineties? They had those I don't remember
- 10:34Speaker 5: that we love the nineties. It sounds like, right up
- 10:36Speaker 5: my alley, either VH one or MTV or okay, okay,
- 10:39Speaker 5: they had all those things where yeah, let's get together
- 10:42Speaker 5: a bunch of comedians or a bunch of personalities from
- 10:45Speaker 5: and also now yeah, yeah, like twenty to one or
- 10:47Speaker 5: something like that.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And I have to explain to the person, is because
- 10:49Speaker 4: you have no idea howther.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Worse someone's a comedian. Well, you know they drag out
- 10:56Speaker 5: Mark McGrath from Sugar Sugar Ray or.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Sugar Ray, Sugar ray? Was that every morning?
- 11:01Speaker 5: That's that's about to call them sugar fly for some reason.
- 11:04Speaker 5: I'm like they so they had a big was their
- 11:06Speaker 5: song fly just want to fly? Yeah?
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that that flies in there somewhere and sugar.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Like flies to sugar. I've gone beyond slang. Adris is like,
- 11:19Speaker 5: oh the flies are getting on the sugar wave them away.
- 11:25Speaker 4: That terrible man, That's that's where he cares that now
- 11:28Speaker 4: us talking about the flies to sugar, shoe fly, sugar fly.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Sugar fly back on. But yeah, it did. It did
- 11:39Speaker 5: feel a bit that way in some regards, But look
- 11:44Speaker 5: a lot of it. I enjoyed. It's it's certainly not
- 11:46Speaker 5: top tier, but it's it's no, it's no lurs Wigan Jesus.
- 11:52Speaker 4: It was only up from there, wasn't it?
- 11:54Speaker 5: The only way is up? My favorite? What were your
- 11:59Speaker 5: favorite moments from the episode? Like I said, the politically
- 12:01Speaker 5: incorrect lyrics when they kicked in. I'm like, I know
- 12:04Speaker 5: they've taken the piss, and what is it? What's what's
- 12:07Speaker 5: the tune?
- 12:08Speaker 4: Because I thought it was Lithium, right, But on on
- 12:12Speaker 4: IMDb one of the users says it's the cover of
- 12:14Speaker 4: the song, which wasn't one of the more popular songs.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I know it's Francis Farmer will Have Her Revenge on
- 12:19Speaker 4: second right, I know the song, and I'm like, is.
- 12:21Speaker 5: That on Bleach? I don't think it's on never Mind.
- 12:25Speaker 5: That's not never Mind.
- 12:25Speaker 4: No, that's that's on the one that's sort of just
- 12:28Speaker 4: like B sides and shit, I'm pretty sure maybe it
- 12:30Speaker 4: is on in Utero. I think it might be on
- 12:31Speaker 4: in uter that they're like, follow up, Yeah, so Bleach.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Bleach is the ep pride to never Mind, right.
- 12:37Speaker 4: So yeah, so you had never Mind was the first
- 12:40Speaker 4: big album, and you had that so about a Girl
- 12:43Speaker 4: was on Bleach, right, So that was the first one
- 12:45Speaker 4: where it's like, oh, these guys are pretty good. And
- 12:47Speaker 4: then never Mind came out boom, and then in Utero,
- 12:49Speaker 4: which was a different style of music, but they enjoyed it.
- 12:52Speaker 5: No, I liked in Utero a lot.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure, Francis Farmers on that, on that, but
- 12:57Speaker 4: I heard this and I'm just like, this just sounds
- 12:58Speaker 4: like I'm so because I thought it was I thought
- 13:02Speaker 4: it was lithium.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Regardless, I'm sure it was it was.
- 13:05Speaker 4: That's the beauty about Nirvana songs, right, you can you
- 13:08Speaker 4: can take Nirvana songs and play them in the form
- 13:11Speaker 4: of lullabys and they sound like really good lollaby songs.
- 13:13Speaker 4: They're just really good melodies.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, or in any way. I mean, firos
- 13:19Speaker 5: was kind of a letdown after Fury Road. Sorry, this
- 13:21Speaker 5: is a tangent, but that's wait a minute, the guys
- 13:25Speaker 5: have a stroke that the he's talking about. I'm in
- 13:28Speaker 5: somewhere with the trust Man. Furiosa was kind of a
- 13:32Speaker 5: let down after Fury Road. Not not as good, but
- 13:36Speaker 5: the trailer has like this, not even it's not a
- 13:40Speaker 5: metal version of great Now. I forgot that was it?
- 13:45Speaker 1: No?
- 13:45Speaker 4: No, no, no, yeah, Madness of the World. Yeah, but
- 13:50Speaker 4: it's yeah, I mean the David Bowie song who Nevana covered.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Yes, yes, so it's originally yeah, yeah, I'm an idiot,
- 13:58Speaker 5: Zach cut all this out. I'm absolutely useless.
- 14:02Speaker 4: So David Bowie's David Bowie song, and then Ivana covered
- 14:05Speaker 4: it for their unplug sessions and.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Then it's on the It's on the trailer for Burio,
- 14:09Speaker 5: but in this very sort of not operatic version. But
- 14:11Speaker 5: it's like, oh yeah, that kind of works. So what
- 14:14Speaker 5: I'm saying is Devana, they're pretty good. I took the
- 14:18Speaker 5: scenic round to get there, but yeah, that was not bad.
- 14:21Speaker 5: I've told let me give you another story that's maybe
- 14:24Speaker 5: slightly better, or at least an anecdote. Yeah. No, I
- 14:29Speaker 5: mean I was around, well, of course I was around
- 14:31Speaker 5: in the early nineties, but I remember this very very
- 14:34Speaker 5: distinctly because it really felt like a change of the guard. Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 5: I was staying with my sister in Hong Kong and
- 14:41Speaker 5: we had MTV in Australia, but that this is MTV
- 14:43Speaker 5: all day round, as opposed to MTV like a couple
- 14:46Speaker 5: of couple of hours on a Friday night. And the
- 14:49Speaker 5: songs that kept playing and the clips that were really
- 14:51Speaker 5: big were things like black or White, and particularly the
- 14:55Speaker 5: one I remember is Yes, I think it was too
- 14:59Speaker 5: legit to quick it by Hammer, and they had these
- 15:02Speaker 5: massive film clips. They were just like these huge extravaganzas.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Everything was overproduced. To the max, and it just felt
- 15:07Speaker 5: like this this bubble is about the pop man. This
- 15:10Speaker 5: just feels like entertainment's just getting too big, too unwieldy.
- 15:14Speaker 5: And then about a month after me being there, here's
- 15:18Speaker 5: this new band, added Fiata called him to Dan. It's like,
- 15:22Speaker 5: why MTV, why behide this person? They're terrible, But you
- 15:26Speaker 5: know you hear you know, the opening riff of smells
- 15:29Speaker 5: like teen spirit, and honestly it feels like, oh ship,
- 15:32Speaker 5: we've just reset the world changed. Yeah, we've absolutely gone
- 15:36Speaker 5: back to formula. It's fantastic. So that's something I'll never
- 15:40Speaker 5: forget about in Thevana and something I always really appreciate
- 15:42Speaker 5: about him. It's like they just almost grab popular culture
- 15:46Speaker 5: by the scruffer neck and said Michael Jackson hammer, sit
- 15:50Speaker 5: the fuck down, shoe fly, shoe fly, make way for
- 15:54Speaker 5: Mark McGrath. This has been gay's pop culture coin.
- 16:00Speaker 4: One thing for me is I always look back and
- 16:02Speaker 4: go to shave it. I hate that I missed Nirvana
- 16:05Speaker 4: because they were done by ninety three ninety four, right
- 16:08Speaker 4: because Klonel passed Bay ninety four, the band was essentially
- 16:10Speaker 4: done by like ninety three. Oh yeah, they weren't. They
- 16:15Speaker 4: were on the downfall in the sense that they weren't
- 16:17Speaker 4: they were rocky, they were splitting out. Just Kurt wasn't
- 16:19Speaker 4: in the good place. You can't really remember much shit
- 16:22Speaker 4: before you're like four or five, and I was five
- 16:24Speaker 4: and ninety three. So I have memories of my next
- 16:27Speaker 4: door neighbor who her name was Daddy L and she
- 16:29Speaker 4: was sort of like the older kid who'd always like,
- 16:32Speaker 4: I'd go over her house and she'd show me some
- 16:33Speaker 4: albums and things like that. I remember she would play Nirvana,
- 16:36Speaker 4: but I don't know whether that was whilst I was
- 16:37Speaker 4: still a band or whether that was Post's death. But
- 16:40Speaker 4: my earliest memories in Navana were just this cool girl
- 16:43Speaker 4: next you just pie Nevana.
- 16:44Speaker 5: One might say you were almost in utero at the time. Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 5: exactly right.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Yeah, So I just I have no memories of them
- 16:50Speaker 4: being a band at the time I was. My childhood
- 16:53Speaker 4: was just the groove town. Was the Groovetown? That's one
- 16:57Speaker 4: of my trivia questions.
- 16:58Speaker 5: But anyway, that's one that all fail because I've already
- 17:01Speaker 5: forgot the name. But that was also a good piss
- 17:03Speaker 5: take of just the new Jack swing and love to You.
- 17:07Speaker 4: That's boys to men.
- 17:08Speaker 5: So I think it's boised men.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I feel like they're a default band when you hear
- 17:11Speaker 4: a song that you're like, it's boised to men, right.
- 17:14Speaker 5: Very much? Slow Dancer proms, Yes.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yes, what's the other song that end of time?
- 17:22Speaker 5: I think we're singing them in exactly the same although
- 17:26Speaker 5: we've come to the end of the real end of
- 17:32Speaker 5: the road. Yes, so don't really be dancing out with
- 17:35Speaker 5: your best girl at prom because like, wait a minute,
- 17:38Speaker 5: you're going after college and you're probably going to sleep
- 17:40Speaker 5: with this closing time. Meanwhile, I'm going to go work
- 17:42Speaker 5: at Laser Tag. But yeah, but good, good soundtrack all round.
- 17:46Speaker 5: And I thought sad Gasm songs are actually pretty good
- 17:48Speaker 5: song they were, They're my favorite.
- 17:50Speaker 4: But also I really like Margarine as it's good Serene
- 17:53Speaker 4: as well.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Yeah, and I just liked them sort of. I think
- 17:58Speaker 5: the professor really embodied a but just the early days
- 18:00Speaker 5: of political correctness. Now we have quote unquote who woke culture.
- 18:04Speaker 4: We had this in the nineties that just went all
- 18:07Speaker 4: the way over it didn't he Oh yeah, anything that's
- 18:10Speaker 4: checked like a penis is bad.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Man. You've got audiences in twenty two before going you know,
- 18:15Speaker 5: he's onto.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Something he's got. I just really enjoyed. I thought you
- 18:20Speaker 4: about to l like this. It's kind of like a
- 18:21Speaker 4: Devil's Advocate. It's kind of random, kind of silly. It's
- 18:23Speaker 4: not as good as Devil's Advocate. Obviously, nothing will be.
- 18:25Speaker 4: But throwing the oxygen, throwing the things. Where would I
- 18:29Speaker 4: get my oxygen? Makes no sense.
- 18:34Speaker 5: I should have looked this up before him. But I
- 18:37Speaker 5: don't know if it was in the nineties of the
- 18:38Speaker 5: two thousand, but oxygen bars were kind of okay, yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 5: where you could just go and get like pure H
- 18:43Speaker 5: two own and apparently get you not high, but walt feeling.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I feel kind of refreshed, kind of like a like
- 18:50Speaker 5: a detox in some way comes out of the store
- 18:52Speaker 5: where we get my oxygen world rusty. So yeah, we're
- 18:56Speaker 5: my favorites. What did you enjoy?
- 18:57Speaker 4: So I've already gone through mine, So Oxygen, the sid
- 19:01Speaker 4: and just the songs in general, because I saw a
- 19:03Speaker 4: really sweet moment and just that the song choice as
- 19:05Speaker 4: well of Bittersweet Symphony was in here closing time. Those
- 19:09Speaker 4: songs just epitomize the nineties, you know, like not the
- 19:12Speaker 4: nineties pop, nineties rock, you know what I mean? Like
- 19:14Speaker 4: Bittersweet Symphony was huge from when I was a child. Yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 4: and they got in trouble because they copied Rolling Stones obviously,
- 19:19Speaker 4: but in closing.
- 19:21Speaker 5: A little bit bad. It was it Richard Ashcroft from
- 19:24Speaker 5: Yeah the verb yeah, because I mean the Stone's got
- 19:28Speaker 5: enough money, can't get rid to the bar.
- 19:36Speaker 4: But closing Time for me, whenever you hear closing time,
- 19:39Speaker 4: you get taken back to ninet ninety seven. Right, It's
- 19:41Speaker 4: just you get sucked. It's like a time capture. You
- 19:44Speaker 4: showed back to closing time at a nightclub in the
- 19:47Speaker 4: who's the band?
- 19:48Speaker 5: Subsonic?
- 19:49Speaker 4: Yeah, something sonic, isn't it? Yeah, Closing Time is sung
- 19:55Speaker 4: by semi sonic Sam, Yeah, I knew something Sonic. Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 4: that's a great song really, But he's my anecdote, right,
- 20:02Speaker 4: So we're talking about songs that sounded the same, right,
- 20:04Speaker 4: because we all singing under the end of the bl
- 20:06Speaker 4: blah blah. So my friend of mine, local musician Nathan six,
- 20:10Speaker 4: I'll give him a shout out right changing sex six
- 20:12Speaker 4: six S do W E c K T S six Right, Okay,
- 20:17Speaker 4: he has a child and he was okay, yeah, and
- 20:20Speaker 4: his child he's a guitarist, like he's a musician and
- 20:22Speaker 4: his son's playing like guitar, so just like strumming it. Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 4: he's singing the A, B C right, and then towards
- 20:29Speaker 4: the end of it he's sort of like flubs the
- 20:31Speaker 4: losing gaze aby. Now twin good twin maybe singing to it.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Either way, it's like he realizes in that moment he's
- 20:39Speaker 4: like twin killed twin kirl. Now no, wait a minute,
- 20:44Speaker 4: let's say song. You can see that Cole is going.
- 20:48Speaker 4: He transitioned into another song without realizing. He gets halfway
- 20:50Speaker 4: through the second version goes, wait a.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Minute, the words, the whole words alive. There are only
- 20:57Speaker 5: six songs in everything. Active Creation is a slide variation
- 21:02Speaker 5: from there on.
- 21:02Speaker 4: You can see the pause and anyone starts clapping, and
- 21:04Speaker 4: you can see that and his head's going, don't clap.
- 21:07Speaker 5: This is.
- 21:09Speaker 4: This is all what's going on here. But yeah, all right,
- 21:15Speaker 4: so let's get into trivia.
- 21:16Speaker 5: But before the actually stone cutters.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Oh okay then, because we do love KDG, don't.
- 21:30Speaker 5: We, Just as Tony Stark loves his daughter three thousand,
- 21:35Speaker 5: we love kd G one hundred, yeah, and she loves
- 21:37Speaker 5: us one I got.
- 21:41Speaker 4: There also shouts to our men, Andrew Swan keeping us

- 23:15Speaker 5: I do it again? Do it again? Chef's kiss? Just kiss?
- 23:19Speaker 5: Next question?
- 23:20Speaker 4: You there eating the bast hip music. First question, I
- 23:23Speaker 4: only have a few?
- 23:24Speaker 5: Hm.
- 23:24Speaker 4: You said this a lot. I don't even asked for three.
- 23:27Speaker 4: So well, that's good.
- 23:28Speaker 5: That's a dictionary definition of that's the requirement three. Okay?
- 23:31Speaker 5: What Professor August's office hours three to five? Three or five?
- 23:37Speaker 4: What is the name of the record studio where Homer
- 23:41Speaker 4: lose the cop Lennion Cala Recording? Oh is a groove
- 23:44Speaker 4: land Groovestone Groovestone.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Speaking of records, sad Gasm's album Desolation Hatchback is released
- 23:52Speaker 5: on which record label?
- 23:53Speaker 4: Oh shit, didn't I didn't even hear that part.
- 23:56Speaker 5: What was that? They had it listed in on the
- 23:58Speaker 5: MTV music video and it was a few through Mucus Records,
- 24:03Speaker 5: US records. All right, what were the three quotes from
- 24:06Speaker 5: the Seinfeld moment?
- 24:08Speaker 4: No soup for you, master of my Domain and human
- 24:15Speaker 4: Newman is one. Yeah, it's a sponge waity and sponge wory.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Yes, yes. And my final question for you, the DreamCatcher
- 24:24Speaker 5: that Professor August gives Marge is from which tribe? No idea,
- 24:28Speaker 5: it's lacon A Paine, lack of pain.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Can we just say Professor August dirty dog right, one
- 24:34Speaker 4: of these guys who, yes, was very big in the
- 24:36Speaker 4: in the nineties and probably prior to from the I'm
- 24:40Speaker 4: going to say from the sixties to the nineties, but
- 24:41Speaker 4: even probably before then, learned man that experienced in worldliness,
- 24:46Speaker 4: basically just being horn dogs to the young students, let
- 24:50Speaker 4: me teach you a few things about, young lady. I
- 24:53Speaker 4: have taught you about literature and art, and now it's
- 24:55Speaker 4: time for the ways of love. May I kiss you,
- 25:00Speaker 4: but yeah, that's then couching it in a very PC way.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I mean, these days apparently well I don't know if
- 25:07Speaker 4: they still are called soy boys or something like that,
- 25:09Speaker 4: but in the nineties we called them snags sensitive new
- 25:12Speaker 4: age guys. That's what I ate from buddies on a
- 25:15Speaker 4: Saturday morning. There are good snags that you get off
- 25:19Speaker 4: the new age guys. That's what I was eating it.
- 25:24Speaker 5: You're eating me without making sense, the varying me. But yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 5: you would have these guys who would essentially, you know,
- 25:33Speaker 5: I really respect you and at the same time, I
- 25:37Speaker 5: really want to jump your bones, but I'm not going
- 25:38Speaker 5: to do it without your Yeah. Another phrase from the nineties,
- 25:43Speaker 5: but maybe the eighties, probably just from Martin Light to Scollnest,
- 25:50Speaker 5: but they would couch their horn dog tendencies in a
- 25:55Speaker 5: great deal of respect and admiration for the divine feminine,
- 25:59Speaker 5: you know they're not so basically just like babe, I
- 26:02Speaker 5: really want to slam.
- 26:04Speaker 4: There comes a point in time in life where you
- 26:05Speaker 4: think that that's you know, girls just want you to
- 26:08Speaker 4: be no emotional and consider it. If I say that
- 26:11Speaker 4: sit to Nicholas, she'd go fuck.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Off, mate. We get here out of what There are
- 26:16Speaker 5: times when it's a fine line to walk. One wants
- 26:19Speaker 5: to be respectful.
- 26:19Speaker 4: One ye, Nikola never bought that ship. Never just oh yeah,
- 26:23Speaker 4: look nick wants me to be nice, but not be
- 26:25Speaker 4: a dickhead.
- 26:26Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yes, that'd be a simp.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Yeah, that's simp that's the other word. Yes, soy boy
- 26:31Speaker 5: is kind of that's very two thousand and late. Or hey,
- 26:34Speaker 5: soy boy, simpers is the new hotness. But you gotta
- 26:40Speaker 5: walk that fine line with me between being respectful of
- 26:42Speaker 5: your of your romantic partner, but also god damn baby,
- 26:47Speaker 5: you're so well I can't get your hands off.
- 26:48Speaker 4: It depends if you want to end up in the
- 26:49Speaker 4: frien zone of the end zone.
- 26:52Speaker 5: We learned a bit about what happens after six pm.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Those were my questions. Did you ask me one?
- 27:02Speaker 4: Ask you one more? What was the name of the
- 27:04Speaker 4: little toy Yachtipus?
- 27:07Speaker 5: Oh damn it bitter sweet and he was playing I
- 27:10Speaker 5: remember the whole scene. It was quite vivid, but I
- 27:13Speaker 5: did not remember his name. Fuzzy. It's Cutipus, beautypuss. Okay,
- 27:16Speaker 5: yeah it was it shoe fly a sugar pl.
- 27:21Speaker 4: All right, So the original air of that ninety show,
- 27:25Speaker 4: which confusing now when you google it.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Because you get that shitty TV show.
- 27:28Speaker 4: There is a TV show called that ninety. Yeah, did
- 27:30Speaker 4: they do that eighty show as well? I think they did.
- 27:32Speaker 4: It went for one season, maybe maybe two. It didn't work,
- 27:35Speaker 4: But they've done that ninety show. But that's this is
- 27:37Speaker 4: an actual, like direct sequel to that seventies So that
- 27:40Speaker 4: eighty show was no reference to it at all around the
- 27:43Speaker 4: previous and this one was like, hey, it's the original guys,
- 27:45Speaker 4: but they're older and they've got their owin kids. Now
- 27:47Speaker 4: are they all in it?
- 27:48Speaker 5: Kush is not.
- 27:49Speaker 4: I don't think Kutcher made an appearance.
- 27:52Speaker 5: No, but Topa Grace is still the lead.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Well he's not the lead, but he's yeah, he's in it.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:59Speaker 4: And Laura, Yeah, she's in it.
- 28:01Speaker 5: And do you have any Laura propon? Yeah? So, and
- 28:05Speaker 5: does anyone get that job? Did you have anything you've
- 28:08Speaker 5: seen Wayne as well?
- 28:09Speaker 4: And the guy who played.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Yes, and oh that's right, because we should we shouldn't laugh, No, no,
- 28:27Speaker 5: we should not laugh. What kurtwood Smith though, was back his.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Dad right, Yeah, which was nice to see. And kiddy
- 28:33Speaker 4: and their grandma and Grand.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Debora Joe up. That's right.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Good couple always looked old, so did kurtwood Smith.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Though, even have you seen robot Cop? Yes, what do
- 28:43Speaker 5: you think? Loved it? Such a dope movie. Let's not
- 28:46Speaker 5: talk about let talk about Robock. We'll do it movie guys.
- 28:49Speaker 5: We'll do movie guys on Robo Cop. But I look
- 28:51Speaker 5: at him in that though, and he's like, I can
- 28:54Speaker 5: see you're not old, but I don't know, you're kind
- 28:57Speaker 5: of golamish. Maybe it's one hundred and fifty years old.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Kind of looks like but obviously the guy and Lost
- 29:03Speaker 4: is a lot better looking. But Lock oh yeah, similar
- 29:06Speaker 4: kind of facial structure.
- 29:07Speaker 5: A little bit yeah, which I mean not much.
- 29:10Speaker 4: We'll kind of give it up on Lost. We're nearly
- 29:12Speaker 4: the end of season two, okay, And I didn't want
- 29:15Speaker 4: to say, like I thought Nicholas enjoyed. I said, Nicola
- 29:18Speaker 4: kind of feels like it's going nowhere, and she's just like, yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 4: I'm getting the same vibe.
- 29:21Speaker 5: It's starting to feel like it's we've got a branch
- 29:24Speaker 5: off and do interesting new ship. There's only so much
- 29:26Speaker 5: we can do with this.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Jack has never been into for like five episodes it's
- 29:29Speaker 4: like they've just run out of shit to do. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 4: it's like backstory, backstory, backstory.
- 29:33Speaker 5: And I was like, just start watching the X Files again. Oh,
- 29:36Speaker 5: that's what's happening. Absolutely, And if you if you listen
- 29:40Speaker 5: to TV launch Pod, you'll understand why, because Dan and
- 29:43Speaker 5: I was just like, oh, you know what's really.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Good is the Xbox Ma she seending each other. X
- 29:47Speaker 4: files means for the.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Actually I did send you one this morning, didn't I?
- 29:51Speaker 4: Yeah, so x Files. It was the latest episode of
- 29:54Speaker 4: TV launch Pod where we Go we haven't checked it
- 29:56Speaker 4: out already. We go and we reviewed the part episodes
- 29:59Speaker 4: of classic TV show in this week. It looks like
- 30:00Speaker 4: it's going to be How I Met Your.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Mother, although yes, I am starting to regret actually proposing
- 30:06Speaker 5: that as a title because the competition was news Radio.
- 30:11Speaker 5: And then Dan and I started talking about news radio
- 30:13Speaker 5: yesterday and how hey, you know who's in this is
- 30:15Speaker 5: Phil Harmon? Well, Andy do but Joe Rogan that's interesting,
- 30:20Speaker 5: Dave Foley from Kids at the Hall, And who's the lead?
- 30:24Speaker 5: More Attiney I think is the female lead?
- 30:26Speaker 4: I'll tell you right now, yeah, because if it is,
- 30:28Speaker 4: she was in a movie that I watched on the
- 30:30Speaker 4: weekend and she was really good in it. Vicky Lewis
- 30:32Speaker 4: is Beth Marotteini yestiny.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Yeah. She's a movie called The Iron Claw, which you
- 30:37Speaker 5: might dig because Stephen Ritzen as well Steve what a
- 30:41Speaker 5: cast what a cur but bangers except Andy.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Dick, who should be like, yeah all he got his
- 30:46Speaker 4: head banged into a bar by John Lovet's So that
- 30:48Speaker 4: is one of my favorite stories of ALTA.
- 30:49Speaker 5: Yeah, we love it.
- 30:50Speaker 4: It would have been made that story better if it
- 30:52Speaker 4: didn't bait his head into the bar. If you just
- 30:53Speaker 4: bitch slapped. Have you seen the video of a guy
- 30:59Speaker 4: I don't know obviously out of the fight whatever, and
- 31:00Speaker 4: this guy walks in, kisses the back of his hand
- 31:03Speaker 4: and his bit slaps him, knock him clean out. Oh
- 31:05Speaker 4: my goodness, that's one of my favorite videos ever. This
- 31:07Speaker 4: guy is just like talking shit. This guy walks in,
- 31:09Speaker 4: doesn't do nothing, goes kiss in the back of his
- 31:11Speaker 4: hand and slaps this guy. It's the kiss first.
- 31:14Speaker 5: The kiss is just incredible.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to show you after we finished. I
- 31:18Speaker 4: don't believe and this guy just goes down.
- 31:21Speaker 5: So look, we're probably going to be talking about how
- 31:22Speaker 5: I met your mother, which is not bad. It's also
- 31:23Speaker 5: I've got a castle have really good, really good performance
- 31:26Speaker 5: backing it up with news radio. But I think we're
- 31:27Speaker 5: going to do something on news radio.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Yes for sure. I don't know whether you actually stream
- 31:31Speaker 4: it anywhere. I've got on DVD.
- 31:32Speaker 5: If you need to borrow it, I'm gonna I'm probably
- 31:34Speaker 5: gonna need to borrow it. Yes, uh, but you know,
- 31:36Speaker 5: I watch this movie called The Iron Claw, which you
- 31:38Speaker 5: might like because it's about.
- 31:39Speaker 4: On Eric's yes who the relations that I think is
- 31:41Speaker 4: like the nephews or the grandsons were on a w
- 31:43Speaker 4: this week.
- 31:44Speaker 5: Oh yeah, there you go, Dannel and I did not
- 31:47Speaker 5: plan this. We never planned anything. As you can tell,
- 31:50Speaker 5: Zach edit it, Zach make his look profecial, but Iron
- 31:55Speaker 5: Claus was actually really good. Look and go what's the
- 31:59Speaker 5: deal with Zach? I was like someone's been drinking the Jews.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Apparently it's very very sort of was what was it
- 32:08Speaker 4: the mehmi of Rhapsody style where it's like a good story, Yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 4: really accurate, but a good story.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Oh yeah yeah. I mean the guy plays Rick Flair
- 32:15Speaker 5: is terrible or something. I don't know enough about Ric Flair.
- 32:18Speaker 5: I thought Okay, I know, I know of Rick Flair.
- 32:20Speaker 5: It's just a style and profile and woo. They have
- 32:23Speaker 5: a lot of woo with it. But it was a
- 32:25Speaker 5: good movie, incredibly sad because, yeah, I said, I don't
- 32:28Speaker 5: think I'm gonna think I said to Lou, I don't
- 32:30Speaker 5: think it's going to go things are going well with
- 32:32Speaker 5: the von Erics, Yes, and things went really bad for
- 32:34Speaker 5: the bon Erics.
- 32:35Speaker 4: So the way I love that how I said, we're
- 32:37Speaker 4: gonna get into the stab of the episode about ten
- 32:38Speaker 4: minutes ago. I didn't even read the air date out
- 32:41Speaker 4: what what happened?
- 32:44Speaker 5: Well, we haven't done the whole this is the title,
- 32:46Speaker 5: this is the board. There's no board.
- 32:48Speaker 4: I said, let's get into the review. And then stopping happened?
- 32:52Speaker 5: You and I just like talking.
- 32:54Speaker 4: We just spoke for ten minutes.
- 32:55Speaker 5: But yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 4: The original January twenty seven, two thousand and eight, written
- 32:58Speaker 4: by Matt Salmon, directed by Mark Kirkland, I Guess stars
- 33:01Speaker 4: from Widow, Yanke Vick, who returned again, and Kurt Loder
- 33:03Speaker 4: as himself from MTV News. The couch gag was the
- 33:06Speaker 4: family sitting on the couch the screen gyms out to
- 33:08Speaker 4: show them as a painting in a museum with a
- 33:10Speaker 4: handwritten caption cessan nest pass.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Sittingug in good Guess, which is a reference to the
- 33:17Speaker 5: famous nineteen twenty nine painting by Renee Magrite. I'm not
- 33:21Speaker 5: rich pronouncing that called the Treachery of.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Images, sort of says here in the Wikipedia, because you
- 33:26Speaker 4: know that's trans well, that translates to this is not
- 33:28Speaker 4: a couch yag.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Yeah, and the original picture is a pipe with underneath.
- 33:32Speaker 5: This is not a pipe. It's like, but it's a part.
- 33:35Speaker 5: I think it is a pipe, yeah, which point mcgret goes, No, No,
- 33:38Speaker 5: it's a picture of a pipe, not actually a pipe.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Picture of a pipe and a whole bunch of friends.
- 33:43Speaker 5: She said, what the fuck you get that?
- 33:46Speaker 4: That meme of calies from Bill and Dead, who.
- 33:52Speaker 5: The best one of those I ever saw? Was like,
- 33:53Speaker 5: what if cats hav An, isn't it? It's just pictures
- 33:55Speaker 5: of us? He's so funny. He was getting sad I
- 34:03Speaker 5: feel about because I just caught myself in the in
- 34:05Speaker 5: the monitor there. I thought I was trying to pull
- 34:07Speaker 5: the Keanu Reeves face of like whoa, and instead I
- 34:09Speaker 5: looked like that guy who was in the audience of
- 34:11Speaker 5: America's got Talent or Australie John Talent.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Oh man, we do we have to do?
- 34:19Speaker 5: We have to pivot the video? Can we just do audio?
- 34:22Speaker 5: People say, hey, you've got a lovely boys, but your
- 34:24Speaker 5: face but her face good face for radio. I mentioned
- 34:29Speaker 5: that those guys earlier. If you if you were listening
- 34:32Speaker 5: to our Most ReBs episode, a recent episode of Going
- 34:34Speaker 5: down to Sound Park, I will tell you about the
- 34:36Speaker 5: Lovely Louise and I went to a ball on her birthday,
- 34:39Speaker 5: give her a birthday message. Yesterday was the Lovely Louise's birthday.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Happy birthday, beautiful. I love you so much. Yes. And
- 34:45Speaker 5: also I never watched the show.
- 34:46Speaker 4: I don't think I've spoken about this on four figure
- 34:48Speaker 4: discout yet, but I may have mentioned how my mum
- 34:51Speaker 4: had a cancer scare recently ships successful surgery. They feel
- 34:54Speaker 4: like they've got it all out and she needs to
- 34:56Speaker 4: have scanser for six months just to do backup check.
- 34:57Speaker 5: So it all worked out well. Thumbs up.
- 35:00Speaker 4: But I'm mum kick cancers s Yes, exactly right, just
- 35:03Speaker 4: in case I haven't mentioned on this podcast.
- 35:04Speaker 5: So it's good news all round. It is good news
- 35:06Speaker 5: on fourteen dix sounds. Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 4: So the episode starts off and I've got here Christmas episode.
- 35:11Speaker 5: Oh, by the way, just let me wrap up that
- 35:13Speaker 5: we went to the ball on Saturday night and the
- 35:14Speaker 5: band that was playing was a local Couver band called
- 35:17Speaker 5: Good Faces or good Heads for Radio. Good head Fredia
- 35:19Speaker 5: his good Faces Fredia. It might be good Faces Forreda.
- 35:21Speaker 5: They were solid. Yeah, gets some good tunes. I got
- 35:24Speaker 5: out and danced a lot lose. Good friend Madeline said,
- 35:28Speaker 5: we hadn't seen a guy like that before. She referred
- 35:30Speaker 5: to me as the ball guy. I said, the ball guy.
- 35:33Speaker 5: That's pretty obvious. No, no, no, the ball guy, ala the
- 35:35Speaker 5: fall guy. I said, well, that's a pun worthy of
- 35:37Speaker 5: guy Davis himself. Then she hung up. It's like, fuck
- 35:42Speaker 5: that guy all right? Now? Will you return you to
- 35:46Speaker 5: that ninety show already in progress?
- 35:48Speaker 4: Yes, forty minutes of the episode. Oh my god, you're
- 35:50Speaker 4: getting a bonus episode. So the the starting while she's going,
- 35:56Speaker 4: is this gonna be a Christmas episode? It's like, it's cold,
- 35:58Speaker 4: there's no Christmas in this size. The fact that it's
- 36:01Speaker 4: called at the start and they throw their well, there are.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Other things that happen in winter besides Christmas.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but there's a Christmas song playing on the on.
- 36:07Speaker 5: The What is that winter Wonderland? Or yeah? Which is
- 36:11Speaker 5: a Christmas song? I guess so it's a Christmas song.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Slaves ring, I forgot slave bells. Probably a Christmas song?
- 36:18Speaker 5: Win to Wonderland.
- 36:19Speaker 4: So he throws what is a it's not a it's
- 36:20Speaker 4: not a record players? Something else a gramophone? Yes, throws that,
- 36:23Speaker 4: and the fire throws all their warm closer to the
- 36:25Speaker 4: fire to.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Keep them warm. Not a bad gag.
- 36:27Speaker 4: This felt a bit forced with the thought global woman
- 36:29Speaker 4: would take care of it. Al Gore could do nothing right.
- 36:31Speaker 5: I know.
- 36:32Speaker 4: I just feel like Homer isn't smart enough to make
- 36:34Speaker 4: these kind of jokes. But you know, they like to
- 36:35Speaker 4: sleep and sleep sleep.
- 36:36Speaker 5: I like to show how politically astute they are. Yep.
- 36:39Speaker 5: But it shouldn't be saying that when Matt's gonna be
- 36:41Speaker 5: on the net, Salmon thinks he's so SMARTT Salmon, you're
- 36:46Speaker 5: so smart.
- 36:47Speaker 4: So Season nineteen Simpsons can't go without having a list
- 36:50Speaker 4: gag bar It's magazines, out Popular Sayings, red Book, you
- 36:54Speaker 4: can tell Big and Tall, Halloween Cushion catalog, and then
- 36:57Speaker 4: it's the memory box. I'm just like, why does every
- 37:00Speaker 4: I've had one of these moments now, yeah, it's literally
- 37:02Speaker 4: every moment every episode.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Now, well this feels like the rise of the Internet
- 37:05Speaker 5: as well, when listicals were a big thing. Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 4: True, but season eighteen was all side showed malt. We
- 37:11Speaker 4: haven't had much side sho mail season nineteen.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Have We don't even them blaining.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Now it's now it's lists. It's like they have their
- 37:16Speaker 4: the writer's room every year has their little It's always.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Going to be something new, isn't it down done? Yeah,
- 37:20Speaker 5: you're always going to find something to take issue, which
- 37:22Speaker 5: kind you does? Enjoy stuff?
- 37:23Speaker 4: So it's the memory box you're going to throw much.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Just don't do that.
- 37:26Speaker 4: And Lisa finds that she's got a college degree. What
- 37:29Speaker 4: do you mean, how do you have a college dereow?
- 37:30Speaker 4: I thought that bless you with the unplanned miracle of me,
- 37:32Speaker 4: as Bart says, and she tries to but there's a
- 37:34Speaker 4: bar here, tries to explain the logic of was it Lisa,
- 37:38Speaker 4: if we're ten and two mats yes, So basically it's
- 37:42Speaker 4: actually not a.
- 37:42Speaker 5: Bad side gag that she just does this really elaborate
- 37:46Speaker 5: kind of mathematical equation. It's really just you could have
- 37:49Speaker 5: done a little long division.
- 37:51Speaker 4: To eight minus ten.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Yes, pretty much.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Yes, But basically this is their way, is Matt's way
- 37:56Speaker 4: of explaining, Look, the timeline doesn't make sense. Let's just
- 37:59Speaker 4: have some with it, yes, and don't take it seriously.
- 38:02Speaker 4: What if yeah, what if? Yes, So margin Homer, they
- 38:05Speaker 4: moves into the nineties.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Now, so they're talking about the nineties when, as Homer
- 38:09Speaker 5: points out, young people did believe in their dreams. It
- 38:11Speaker 5: really was a kind of thing where it's you can
- 38:14Speaker 5: work your shitty minimum frame of reference. I was my
- 38:21Speaker 5: age corresponds with the decades pretty well, and that I
- 38:23Speaker 5: was born in nineteen sixty nine, so you in your twenties. Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:27Speaker 5: I entered the nineteen nineties a fresh face, twenty year old. Yeah,
- 38:30Speaker 5: this is the time when you were becoming well, you
- 38:32Speaker 5: were in Homers, you were Homer. I was essentially Homer
- 38:35Speaker 5: and remain so to this day. Yeah. But it was
- 38:38Speaker 5: like the nineties felt like, yeah, you know, times are
- 38:42Speaker 5: a little bit tight in some ways, and you know
- 38:44Speaker 5: the problems that always exist, but it really feel like wow,
- 38:48Speaker 5: and things just about possible. We've got this thing called
- 38:49Speaker 5: the Internet. You can came with just about anyone in
- 38:51Speaker 5: the world. Learn all these different things, fantastic.
- 38:54Speaker 4: It's like we grew up. You know, I was a
- 38:55Speaker 4: nineties child. We had s Club seven saying don't stop,
- 38:59Speaker 4: never give up was the anthem. But I did like
- 39:01Speaker 4: that Bart had never heard of the nineties as well,
- 39:03Speaker 4: if he was probably one of the biggest icons of
- 39:05Speaker 4: the nineties.
- 39:05Speaker 5: Very good point.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yeah, so margin hope of moving into their apartment and
- 39:08Speaker 4: I think it was called Springfield Palace. It was his
- 39:10Speaker 4: various apartments or was the palace.
- 39:11Speaker 5: It was always a place because they were doing a
- 39:13Speaker 5: bit of a riff on Melrose Place.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Of course they work, they said, because of Meloe's Place.
- 39:17Speaker 5: We had. Yes. By the way, if you are interested
- 39:20Speaker 5: in the nineties at all, get on YouTube and just
- 39:22Speaker 5: look up the Melrose Place opening credit.
- 39:24Speaker 4: I never watched it. I just know how to lock
- 39:25Speaker 4: the ear was in it.
- 39:26Speaker 5: She was a bit later when it's because initially was like, yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 5: we're going to do like a not a serious show
- 39:32Speaker 5: about you know, well, it was going to be a
- 39:35Speaker 5: grown up version of Beverly Hills. And it's the same
- 39:38Speaker 5: guy who created it. Okay, Yeah, we're young and gorgeous
- 39:42Speaker 5: and we're trying to make it in la And after
- 39:44Speaker 5: a while it just became.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Like a weird soapie because who was it that made it?
- 39:49Speaker 4: Darren Starr star who was the spelling? Aaron Spelling, Aaron spell?
- 39:53Speaker 5: Oh what was she in? Tory spelling? Was in Tory spelling?
- 39:57Speaker 5: But yeah, Aaron Spelling was like the executive producer of
- 39:59Speaker 5: those they Yes.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Was it because he has something to do with those shows?
- 40:02Speaker 5: Didn't? Yeah? Yeah, Now, whether it was just the Tory
- 40:05Speaker 5: connection or he actually gave him a little backing because
- 40:08Speaker 5: you know, he was one of the biggest names in TV.
- 40:11Speaker 5: I can't remember, but she was like one of the
- 40:13Speaker 5: original NEPO babies because you're looking at the Castle No.
- 40:16Speaker 5: Two and going Wow, Luke Perry, Wow, Shannon Doddy ripped
- 40:19Speaker 5: to both by the way, Wow Jason, all these good
- 40:21Speaker 5: looking people and Tory Spelling. So she was attracted ish yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 5: attracted ish Yeah, I have to be attractive adjacent.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Look at us being or nineteen nineties judging people by
- 40:32Speaker 4: their looks.
- 40:33Speaker 5: I know this is not very twenty twenty four of us.
- 40:35Speaker 4: But basically, so they're moving into the partment. Kirkie is
- 40:37Speaker 4: still a simp for Luanne Luenne always DTF but not
- 40:41Speaker 4: a good wife. I don't think no, no, and also
- 40:45Speaker 4: disrupting his six hour six hours internet download. Yes, get
- 40:50Speaker 4: her photo of her cheating on him. Marge and Homer
- 40:53Speaker 4: are eating noodles.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I'm afraid it's.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Top Rayman again with you, baby, top Ramen tea like
- 41:00Speaker 6: coup o noodles. You know he's a Kia foam food
- 41:06Speaker 6: done do velcrow together.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm not ready to do that yet. I
- 41:13Speaker 2: want to wait until I'm married or at least really
- 41:15Speaker 2: drunk again.
- 41:16Speaker 5: One of those things was like, you know what, it's cool.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I work my minimum wage job. I've got enough to
- 41:21Speaker 5: get a pack of marlbro lights and a pack of
- 41:24Speaker 5: Maggie two minute noodles.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Now do you think they had Marge here say that
- 41:28Speaker 4: she doesn't have sex until she's married, right, so that
- 41:31Speaker 4: you would never think that she's having sex with a professor.
- 41:33Speaker 5: Oh that's a good point. Yeah, I mean I thought
- 41:38Speaker 5: maybe it was the one concession to the original timeline,
- 41:41Speaker 5: like it's branched off a little bit, but now it's
- 41:44Speaker 5: going to go back into the yeah, the ot yeah
- 41:48Speaker 5: to speak. But that's a really good point about Oh no,
- 41:50Speaker 5: she's keeping herself pew up.
- 41:52Speaker 4: So yeah, because if she was sleeping with the professor.
- 41:54Speaker 5: You'd be like, oh mar oh March, Yeah, what are
- 41:57Speaker 5: you Luyanne? Yeah?
- 41:58Speaker 4: Yeah, So I think that that was the sort of
- 41:59Speaker 4: a litle plot points, so you wouldn't think that she
- 42:01Speaker 4: slipped in with the professor.
- 42:02Speaker 5: Maybe, I don't know.
- 42:03Speaker 4: So now there are Groupstone Records and home is in
- 42:05Speaker 4: an inoffensive urban light hip hop smooth groove band.
- 42:09Speaker 5: I'll make rub to you? What I'll make rub to you? Mean? Well,
- 42:13Speaker 5: wasn't the song I'll make love to you? Yeah? But
- 42:14Speaker 5: he said I'll make rub Okay, Well it's I suppose
- 42:17Speaker 5: it's probably even sexier I'll make rub to you. It
- 42:21Speaker 5: just sounds like I'll make love to you. Yeah, yess sir.
- 42:24Speaker 5: I was trying to Color Me Bad. That was the
- 42:26Speaker 5: band that I was thinking. When were they? I don't know,
- 42:30Speaker 5: I never heard of them. Have you never heard of
- 42:31Speaker 5: collor Me Bad? They had a song called I Want
- 42:33Speaker 5: to Sex You Up? I want to sex you up? Okay,
- 42:35Speaker 5: but they seem like a very united I want to
- 42:37Speaker 5: make you sweat. I know that song, La la la
- 42:39Speaker 5: la long. I'm going to have to do a bit
- 42:41Speaker 5: of google on color Me Bad, which is a sentence
- 42:43Speaker 5: that no one has ever said in the last ten years.
- 42:45Speaker 4: It's funny how there's so many songs from my childhood
- 42:47Speaker 4: that I put on now for the kids to listen to,
- 42:49Speaker 4: and I go, I don't think my kids singing this
- 42:50Speaker 4: like boom boom boom, I Wants You in My Room?
- 42:52Speaker 5: Yeah, oh shit, Wait a minute. All these popular songs
- 42:55Speaker 5: and teenagers are about.
- 42:57Speaker 4: What about the backtor words? Am I sex you?
- 42:59Speaker 5: Well? Yeah, we're fucking eight. You have you watched the
- 43:03Speaker 5: documentary on Loup Perlman on Netflix called Dirty Pop?
- 43:07Speaker 4: No, but I saw the start of it. It's like,
- 43:09Speaker 4: now you have to watch it.
- 43:10Speaker 5: Yes, otherwise guy's going to be talking about is the
- 43:12Speaker 5: bad boy the group his face? Yeah? Sign it on
- 43:15Speaker 5: your bingo card, folks, Guys talking about John Stewart on
- 43:19Speaker 5: SNL doing the Loup perlmlting again. Call me bad years
- 43:22Speaker 5: active nineteen eighty five to nineteen ninety eight, then twenty ten,
- 43:25Speaker 5: twenty nineteen, now twenty twenty two to pressents. I keep
- 43:28Speaker 5: taking a break. Help help?
- 43:30Speaker 4: What was it was it?
- 43:31Speaker 5: Help? I Need money? What was that song the Simpsons
- 43:33Speaker 5: I'm Hungry you Need Money or something like that? Again?
- 43:39Speaker 5: Unified Theory of four Finger Discount. They made a cameo
- 43:42Speaker 5: appearance as themselves on a nineteen ninety two episode of
- 43:44Speaker 5: Beverly Hills nine oh two, Wow, Okay, Full Circle, Yes Indeed,
- 43:47Speaker 5: nominated for two Grammys, won two Soul Trained Music Awards,
- 43:50Speaker 5: and were nominated for five Hours. Their music appeared in
- 43:53Speaker 5: New Jack City and Glee. That's two Great Taste That
- 43:57Speaker 5: Taste back together. Best know for the singles I Want
- 43:59Speaker 5: to Sex You Up and All for Love By the Way,
- 44:02Speaker 5: colum Me Bad had two d's and color Me Bad.
- 44:05Speaker 5: Oh Yeah, you gotta be bad? Yes indeed, Okay, you
- 44:09Speaker 5: gots the sass. This has been your history lesson on
- 44:14Speaker 5: New Jack Swing in the nineteen nineties with your host
- 44:16Speaker 5: Guy Davis. We now return you to that ninety show.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Marge says that the relationship is about to unravel, though,
- 44:21Speaker 4: like Kevin Costner's career due to her getting into college.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Yeah, a bit harsh, felt just that.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Feels like one of those jokes where it's just like
- 44:28Speaker 4: shoehorn in a little bit.
- 44:30Speaker 5: It was a bit although, Yeah, Costner's career in the
- 44:31Speaker 5: nineties was a fascinating series of people now but they're
- 44:36Speaker 5: not because Horizon, well he was on yellow side with
- 44:39Speaker 5: the bigger shows on TV. He decided to take all
- 44:42Speaker 5: his money mortgage some of his many properties and like,
- 44:44Speaker 5: I'm gonna self finance my great American Western that nobody
- 44:47Speaker 5: went to see. He's like, I'm gonna make it in
- 44:50Speaker 5: four parts. No one went to see the first part,
- 44:51Speaker 5: and now Netflix is like, we'll pick up the rest
- 44:54Speaker 5: for the pennies on the dollar. Yeah, bad luck for Kevin,
- 44:57Speaker 5: although I find it cold water World. What a world?
- 45:02Speaker 5: What a world? Water World? War? All right? Mars.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Basically, so she's got into college here and home is
- 45:09Speaker 4: kind of annoyed, and she's like, it's going to be
- 45:10Speaker 4: an expensive dream, and he gets, you know what, you
- 45:12Speaker 4: deserve it, so he says, I'm going to go.
- 45:14Speaker 5: Make a dumblast joke about college and collage. Yea, I
- 45:16Speaker 5: did not appreciate it.
- 45:17Speaker 4: So Homer says he's going to go make money to
- 45:20Speaker 4: so she can pay for her college by going back
- 45:22Speaker 4: and getting job with his dad. And grandpa owns a
- 45:23Speaker 4: laser tag, which we're big in the nineties and I
- 45:26Speaker 4: still kids still enjoyed them now, but they're not like
- 45:29Speaker 4: the thing anymore. They feel dated now, like you're playing
- 45:32Speaker 4: laser tag. It's like this feels this feels like when
- 45:35Speaker 4: you put out the PlayStation one.
- 45:36Speaker 5: Yeah, they do. They have laser tag at Laser Questions. Yeah, okay,
- 45:40Speaker 5: I ever did it twice. I think I maybe did
- 45:43Speaker 5: it once. And my nephew Rory actually had like a
- 45:47Speaker 5: home game of.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Laser tag them as well. Yeah, the blue things that
- 45:52Speaker 4: struck around your chest. Yeah, we'll give you a little shot.
- 45:54Speaker 4: I might even get a shock mine.
- 45:55Speaker 5: It's just a shot really like malfunctioned.
- 45:58Speaker 4: I was shocked when I got shocked. Didn't say that come,
- 46:03Speaker 4: but mine would just make like a beeping sound. Yeah okay, yeah,
- 46:06Speaker 4: So anyway, the pussy version, yes, so you know, he
- 46:09Speaker 4: says to Grandpa, I need money. We need money for none.
- 46:11Speaker 5: Of your business.
- 46:12Speaker 4: They give me a job at your business, and Hope
- 46:14Speaker 4: turns off the machine. The kids are beating up at
- 46:15Speaker 4: Laser quest anyway, Margin arrives at college and she's loving
- 46:18Speaker 4: just the scenery and just the vibe and coming book.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Guys.
- 46:20Speaker 4: There, as you were saying earlier, sitting on the grass,
- 46:23Speaker 4: this place is just.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Like the brochure autumnly ball sessions.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And that is why the Lord of the Rings can
- 46:31Speaker 1: never be filmed.
- 46:32Speaker 4: So this is meant to be a parody of Kabaye.
- 46:36Speaker 4: But this doesn't feel like just an early nineties parent.
- 46:38Speaker 4: It feels just like the nineties decade page. Yes, yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 4: well Scie Felt wasn't around. Oh I guess it just
- 46:43Speaker 4: started when when was a thing?
- 46:46Speaker 5: That's funny my theater in decades is you know you
- 46:49Speaker 5: always talk about them, they're always broken into halves.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Well, for me, the nineties started in ninety four. That's
- 46:55Speaker 4: all I can remember. I can't remember before that.
- 46:57Speaker 5: That's the thing. The first half of the nineties feels
- 46:58Speaker 5: very different to the second half. And it's just as
- 47:00Speaker 5: the first half of the eighties feels very different to
- 47:02Speaker 5: the second half.
- 47:02Speaker 4: When you get to like nineties playlists, you can tell
- 47:05Speaker 4: when a song was early nineties, when a.
- 47:06Speaker 5: Song was late night. Absolutely you can.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel it in the eighties though. Do you
- 47:10Speaker 4: think that the eighties just sounds like the eighties?
- 47:11Speaker 5: Oh? No, absolutely not, no, no no. And when you know
- 47:15Speaker 5: you've got sort of what we commonly viewers eighties nostalgia,
- 47:19Speaker 5: it's all very neon and dayglow. That's from eighty five onwards. Yeah,
- 47:26Speaker 5: the first half of the eighties is very bland, it's
- 47:29Speaker 5: basically bleed over from the seventies. So really okay, oh yeah,
- 47:32Speaker 5: I mean no, there's a lot of good stuff in there,
- 47:33Speaker 5: but it's more sort of beige and brown.
- 47:37Speaker 4: But when was Obviously this is not an iconic song
- 47:40Speaker 4: of the nineties for me, it is, but the song
- 47:43Speaker 4: from foot Trot Flats, Oh it oppens, Slice Heaven that's eighties?
- 47:47Speaker 5: Is that late eighties old? Because I remember dancing out
- 47:49Speaker 5: it my not a fucking.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Song right, high school prom I love Shards. That's one
- 47:54Speaker 4: of the songs where if it comes on, I have
- 47:55Speaker 4: to listen to it and I smile.
- 47:56Speaker 5: The entire time. Dave Doblinds in the films, him and
- 48:01Speaker 5: all these guys just in a pub, just dancing, just dancing.
- 48:04Speaker 5: What a song? I think I picked up a couple
- 48:06Speaker 5: of dance moves from the Slice and Slash. A good song.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Yeah, great song. Yeah, all right, enough about the eighties
- 48:11Speaker 4: and the nineties. Let's go we should talk about the
- 48:13Speaker 4: ninety because that's what this episode is. So she's got
- 48:16Speaker 4: into college and she's really enjoying the vibe of everything,
- 48:19Speaker 4: and uh, they like to So she goes to the
- 48:21Speaker 4: cultural history lecture. We bought all you required textbooks, throw
- 48:25Speaker 4: them away. That just sums up university, in school, school
- 48:27Speaker 4: in general.
- 48:28Speaker 5: I'm guessing there are a lot of professors and teachers
- 48:30Speaker 5: who got into the profession because they saw Robin Williams
- 48:34Speaker 5: of Dead Poets Society, throw away those textbooks. It's damn
- 48:38Speaker 5: for me to teach you the actual all the ship
- 48:41Speaker 5: I teach you life. Yeah, you think you're here to
- 48:44Speaker 5: learn about literature, You're actually here to learn about life.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Speaking of Robin Williams, a clip came up on social
- 48:50Speaker 4: media to day.
- 48:50Speaker 5: I think it was Twitter. Was he talking about Trump? No, no, no, no.
- 48:53Speaker 4: It was just it was from Goodbill Hunting where he
- 48:55Speaker 4: was talking about how he misses his wife's farts. Oh yeah,
- 48:59Speaker 4: and the what a fucking scene?
- 49:01Speaker 5: Really good.
- 49:02Speaker 4: They're the things you remember. Goes, you know, I spent
- 49:04Speaker 4: all these years with it. But that's the ship I remember.
- 49:06Speaker 5: But it'd so loud you woke up the dog.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's the ship you remember.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Yeah. And I don't know if that's the scene where
- 49:12Speaker 5: they sort of zoom in on on will that damon
- 49:15Speaker 5: and the cameras sort of shaking. That's because the camera
- 49:17Speaker 5: abraider was laughing. Was the oka, Yeah, and Gus van
- 49:21Speaker 5: sand who directed and said, O kaep it in it works,
- 49:23Speaker 5: and I really did, Rob Williams Lord.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Na, the world's never been the same. It's kind of
- 49:28Speaker 4: like Phil Hartman comedy was never the same really, and
- 49:32Speaker 4: then as soon as when left the world, it just
- 49:34Speaker 4: didn't feel the same anymore.
- 49:37Speaker 5: Lose, like a foundational block, but it felt like a
- 49:40Speaker 5: piece of the puzzles missing. The puzzle's not going to
- 49:42Speaker 5: be quite complete again. You can, maybe you know, shape
- 49:46Speaker 5: someone to be similar to, but Na one of a kind,
- 49:49Speaker 5: one on one.
- 49:50Speaker 4: So he's basically Professor August here luring margin with the feminist,
- 49:56Speaker 4: anti male.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Well yeah, with his yeah, very very enlightened worldview.
- 50:02Speaker 1: That's why instead of x X, I think of the
- 50:05Speaker 1: female genes in a more positive light.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Plus plus, professor, do you think white male scientists have
- 50:15Speaker 2: marginalized the contributions of the third world?
- 50:19Speaker 1: Great question, and the answer is, of course, could a
- 50:22Speaker 1: tribe a bushmen have invented penicillin? Maybe they already have,
- 50:25Speaker 1: but no one asked them, No one asked them.
- 50:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:30Speaker 4: So she's talking to it to Homer about everything she's
- 50:32Speaker 4: learned in class, and did you say everything every president
- 50:34Speaker 4: was a straight white man. It's like, oh, okay, I
- 50:36Speaker 4: see what this guy's doing.
- 50:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's a bit of a play on how
- 50:41Speaker 5: naive you are when you first get your first taste
- 50:43Speaker 5: of sort of like quote unquoite higher learning. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:45Speaker 5: and oh my god, yeah, it's in front of her
- 50:49Speaker 5: eyes the entire time. Oh did you know? Yeah, I
- 50:54Speaker 5: forgot which pill does what in the matrix? Blue pill
- 50:57Speaker 5: puts you back in the matrix, right right, yea, yeah,
- 50:58Speaker 5: because it's all been sort of.
- 51:00Speaker 4: I'm going back into matrix.
- 51:01Speaker 5: Mate. How many times have.
- 51:04Speaker 4: We said I am Cyrus.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Joey Pants has just got the right idea. Give me
- 51:08Speaker 5: a rare steak, and you know, I want to be famous,
- 51:11Speaker 5: not super famous, but just famous enough that I know.
- 51:13Speaker 5: Have you heard that story about Kevin Bacon about how
- 51:17Speaker 5: recently he had like a makeup job and like disguises
- 51:21Speaker 5: so he could go out as not Kevin Bacon. He's like,
- 51:24Speaker 5: it sucked, really, no one was nice to me. I
- 51:28Speaker 5: had to stand in life by copy like a chump.
- 51:31Speaker 5: And it made sense because he's been glad to be normal.
- 51:33Speaker 5: He's been pretty much famous his entire life, well not
- 51:36Speaker 5: his entire.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Life, but He's almost like a meme now, isn't.
- 51:38Speaker 5: He very much so? But from about the age of
- 51:41Speaker 5: twenty or so with the original think he was yeah,
- 51:45Speaker 5: and he's you know, in his mid sixties now. So
- 51:47Speaker 5: that's two thirds of your life that you've just.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Been Hey and a person who people want to get
- 51:54Speaker 4: a photo with and is cool yes, as opposed to yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 4: I'm got a photo of Kevin Bacon. It's like that's cool.
- 51:59Speaker 5: Yeah, but not everyone's tacond photos of him all the time.
- 52:03Speaker 5: It's like, oh, what you mean. I can't leave dunkin
- 52:05Speaker 5: Donuts with a coffee and a couple of bear claws
- 52:07Speaker 5: like Ben Affleck. Anyway, I don't know how we got
- 52:14Speaker 5: to that story.
- 52:14Speaker 4: But we're talking about Kevin Bacon. How we get to
- 52:17Speaker 4: Kevin Bacon?
- 52:18Speaker 5: That's what I was curious about. One of the six
- 52:19Speaker 5: degrees that Kevin Bacon.
- 52:21Speaker 4: Marge was falling for Professor's learning. I don't know, Robin
- 52:27Speaker 4: william Robin Williams, we'll never get there, so.
- 52:30Speaker 5: Let's get back to where we were. It's a lot
- 52:31Speaker 5: like this episode of that ninety show that was just
- 52:33Speaker 5: a what if tangent?
- 52:34Speaker 4: Yes, it really was.
- 52:36Speaker 5: It's not official cannon of full finger discount.
- 52:38Speaker 4: So they're at the front of the university. This is
- 52:39Speaker 4: where she makes the sound and he was like, that's
- 52:41Speaker 4: a weird. So I've never heard that sound before.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Are you sick?
- 52:44Speaker 4: And so she's falling for the professor after one class.
- 52:47Speaker 4: So now we cut back and we had a really
- 52:50Speaker 4: weird sort of like ratcon here with the gas man
- 52:53Speaker 4: trying to fix the gas, like, this is what's going
- 52:55Speaker 4: on here. They're telling a story back in the Springford house,
- 52:57Speaker 4: and it just felt like a bit of a random
- 52:59Speaker 4: moment that they'll mean to the gas man.
- 53:01Speaker 5: I felt sorry for gas man. Yeah, monkey out and
- 53:03Speaker 5: trying to make the gas flow.
- 53:04Speaker 4: So Marge says that, you know, I was falling from
- 53:06Speaker 4: my professor more and more. And the guy just keeps
- 53:09Speaker 4: putting putting down. White males is just white male put down,
- 53:11Speaker 4: put down, put down. March just getting sucked in because
- 53:13Speaker 4: of this, And then Marge's study. We did some good
- 53:16Speaker 4: things something we do this podcast exactly. Yeah, Marge is
- 53:19Speaker 4: now studying whilst.
- 53:20Speaker 5: That makes it for so many things.
- 53:23Speaker 4: This is where he's watching Seinfeld.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Oh Lane, will you ever find someone who's sponge worthy?
- 53:33Speaker 2: Professor Margas says the situation comedy is a doom genre.
- 53:37Speaker 6: Here's what I say to that, No, super you, because
- 53:40Speaker 6: I am master of my domain new Man.
- 53:44Speaker 4: You're right sort of shoehorns in all the gags, all
- 53:46Speaker 4: the quotes. But that's kind of what people were doing
- 53:49Speaker 4: in the nineties. They were quoting Seinfeld a lot, weren't they.
- 53:51Speaker 4: But the Master of My Domain we talked about it
- 53:53Speaker 4: on the episode The Contest of Talking Seiinnfeler. Check it
- 53:56Speaker 4: out if you haven't already where that didn't feel like
- 53:59Speaker 4: a quote that anyone would naturally say in real life,
- 54:01Speaker 4: and that people were trying it.
- 54:02Speaker 5: Weren't they. Oh yeah, have you seen the Udi that's
- 54:06Speaker 5: just got all the Seinfeld quotes on it, Lose Loose
- 54:08Speaker 5: sun has Okay, Yeah, well it's got you know, YadA
- 54:10Speaker 5: YadA and no soup for U and all that kind
- 54:12Speaker 5: of stuff. So yeah, I mean, for a show that
- 54:14Speaker 5: was pretty smart and very you know, well constructed and
- 54:17Speaker 5: well put together and well acted, it did seem really
- 54:20Speaker 5: reliant on catchphrases, or it did seem to want to
- 54:22Speaker 5: make fetch happen.
- 54:23Speaker 4: It's like once once the first one picked up, they went,
- 54:26Speaker 4: oh this is something.
- 54:26Speaker 5: This is something we can Yeah, we can maybe make
- 54:28Speaker 5: T shirts out of this.
- 54:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but do we do merch?
- 54:32Speaker 5: Do we do some merch?
- 54:32Speaker 4: We got Uncle Rico, We should definitely do some forking
- 54:34Speaker 4: a discap merch? Would you guys be interested in the
- 54:36Speaker 4: Fortking a discap? I'm probably mugs, right, coffee mugs?
- 54:39Speaker 5: Yeah, or like my head is like a pintalel. I
- 54:44Speaker 5: think mugs. Yeah.
- 54:46Speaker 4: But Homer here what she said, I wish you would
- 54:48Speaker 4: support my comments and my beliefs. And He's like, I
- 54:50Speaker 4: worked really hard all day to pay for your education.
- 54:53Speaker 4: They just want to sit there and watching TV. This
- 54:55Speaker 4: is my support. Yeah, And I'm just like, you know what,
- 54:57Speaker 4: I'm pro Homer here home has done nothing wrong the
- 55:00Speaker 4: whole he was keeping it back. It doesn't work in
- 55:03Speaker 4: this story. He was wasn't really supportive at first, but
- 55:06Speaker 4: then he worked hard.
- 55:08Speaker 5: Well, it's pay for education. It's it's misunderstandings and just
- 55:13Speaker 5: blind spots on the part of I guess both of them.
- 55:17Speaker 5: When you're at a stage where it's like, oh, I'm
- 55:19Speaker 5: learning so much about the world and everything else, and
- 55:21Speaker 5: you know, I've found these interesting things to say or
- 55:23Speaker 5: interesting ways of looking at the world. And I want
- 55:25Speaker 5: to share it with the one that I love, and
- 55:26Speaker 5: they're kind of like, really, just rather watch the footy
- 55:29Speaker 5: and it's kind of that's where you get your wife
- 55:32Speaker 5: to the footy as well. Am I actually with the
- 55:34Speaker 5: right person? And yeah? And on the other hand, you know,
- 55:37Speaker 5: I was like, really, I'm busting us at the laser quest,
- 55:41Speaker 5: you know, through Cologe so he can own you. Yeah,
- 55:46Speaker 5: you're a thing. Yeah that's professor.
- 55:49Speaker 4: We'll get to that sleazy guy. So he's got marks
- 55:52Speaker 4: all over his stomach, in his back because the kids
- 55:53Speaker 4: keep shooting in the laser tag and she was robbing
- 55:56Speaker 4: his back for him, and she realizes that she's having
- 55:57Speaker 4: visions of him being a professor.
- 55:59Speaker 5: August with his toy blazer.
- 56:00Speaker 4: Yeah, Homer and Marge now in bed with closing time playing.
- 56:03Speaker 5: That was really it was a poignant yeah kind of
- 56:06Speaker 5: thing because I mean no lines were needed. You and Nicola,
- 56:10Speaker 5: of course, have a wonderful relationship. I'm sure you have
- 56:14Speaker 5: never had moments where you've been laying and you sort
- 56:15Speaker 5: of have your backstone to one that was like not that,
- 56:18Speaker 5: oh this person doesn't have sent me. But you may
- 56:19Speaker 5: have had moments like, oh, we we're not on the
- 56:22Speaker 5: same page about this. I feel a little distant.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Well, we never Nickola and I have a rule. You
- 56:26Speaker 4: never go to bed, never go to be angry. Yeah,
- 56:29Speaker 4: I've done the same, but every once in a while
- 56:32Speaker 4: you might work. I hope she doesn't leave me something
- 56:37Speaker 4: just still there. But closing Time is just a great song.
- 56:43Speaker 5: It's a great musical accompanying to accompaniment to that.
- 56:46Speaker 4: Yeah, things aren't going well though for them at all. Meanwhile,
- 56:49Speaker 4: August is talking up her art and he says, you
- 56:52Speaker 4: call missed the farm, so he's just make it more
- 56:54Speaker 4: personal now. And Homer has a little message here I
- 56:57Speaker 4: miss you, and he somehow makes the turns that into
- 56:59Speaker 4: a negative.
- 57:00Speaker 5: I'm like, fuck you, fuck you man.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Yeah, oh thanks, it's just a note for my boyfriend.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Let me guess he's a high school flame who's preventing
- 57:09Speaker 1: you from flowering.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Almost perfect for me. Just look at this note I miss.
- 57:14Speaker 1: You, actually, Marge. If I may deconstruct that letter when
- 57:18Speaker 1: he writes I miss you, I is the subject and
- 57:21Speaker 1: you is the object. You are his object, but.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Almost so supportive. He's paying for you to go to college.
- 57:29Speaker 1: He's paying for you like he owns you. I'm sorry,
- 57:32Speaker 1: but that is oppression.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Well, I know you never say anything that is an
- 57:36Speaker 2: objective March.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Your assignment is to think about what I have said
- 57:39Speaker 1: about your relationship. When is it do before it's too late?
- 57:44Speaker 4: Steph and how May comes looking for Madge at university
- 57:48Speaker 4: and they all make fun of his pronunciation of his wam.
- 57:50Speaker 5: They call him a towny anyway go back to town
- 57:53Speaker 5: yeah or does he miss? I think his pronounces the
- 57:56Speaker 5: surname of the artist.
- 57:58Speaker 4: I think it's the first name because it will say Joe,
- 58:01Speaker 4: I thought, And then they say anyway anyway, but you
- 58:05Speaker 4: know they're all making fun of him. Homer walks in
- 58:07Speaker 4: and she's having a chat with August with the with
- 58:09Speaker 4: the dreamcatch or whatnot. This is nothing like Animal House.
- 58:12Speaker 4: I smashed a Beaty's guitar and he sued me successfully.
- 58:15Speaker 4: Bahoma can't can't sing R and be aniemore. He's just
- 58:17Speaker 4: he's down trotted. He's just he feels like margin's gonna
- 58:20Speaker 4: leave him. He's lost his girl and he's what really
- 58:22Speaker 4: hard for her. So he turns the R and B
- 58:25Speaker 4: into guitar rock, utilizing as a Then it's grunching or
- 58:30Speaker 4: something whatever, but it's.
- 58:31Speaker 5: Great because the word grunge is actually part of the acronym.
- 58:34Speaker 4: Yes, so now they're sad gasm and they're seemed politically
- 58:38Speaker 4: in correct. And I've got here it sounds like Luthian,
- 58:42Speaker 4: but apparently it's Francis Farmer. Anyway, it's it's.
- 58:44Speaker 5: Catchy, it's brown. Hey, it's white love.
- 58:55Speaker 6: It's black.
- 58:58Speaker 5: Step Night, King of Num, colotent.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Of Hurt, really dark dum.
- 59:16Speaker 5: Jesse duck dot kurrent Current.
- 59:19Speaker 1: It's Marvin, your cousin, Marvin Cobain.
- 59:22Speaker 5: You know that new sound you're looking for, Well, listen
- 59:24Speaker 5: to this.
- 59:30Speaker 4: We get a back to the future reference here. Hey,
- 59:32Speaker 4: it's your cousin.
- 59:37Speaker 5: It's funny, we're talking about political greatness and all that.
- 59:39Speaker 5: I mean, some people take back to the Future to
- 59:41Speaker 5: task because it's like, oh, so you're saying Chuck Berry
- 59:44Speaker 5: didn't invent rock and roll, that there was actually a
- 59:46Speaker 5: white man that did it.
- 59:48Speaker 4: You mean Jonanan didn't, right, imagine Forrest Gump did.
- 59:53Speaker 5: But you've got people, yeah, very online people that will say, yeah,
- 59:57Speaker 5: the back the Muture is pretty racist and also, you know,
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: kind of kind of sexist.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: I said that a white guy wrote, Okay.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Can't we just enjoyed Back to the Future, such a
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: good movie.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: But Marge leaves for the professor because she ses the
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: band and he basically, what is it? He says, he
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: walks something.
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: This isn't entertainment, this is genocide or something.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: I know, you have a bit of a little test here.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: And she leaves with the professor because I think he
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: says something on the lines and the guy's like, I
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: can do that, and she jumps on his bike and
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: wides off, and I was like, March, what are you doing?
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: And then the girl walks up says, can you sew
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: my boobs? And you write Marge come back? And I
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: just think they painted Homer as really sympathetic throughout this
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: entire episode.
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: No, we didn't get any jerk house home.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: Well, we designed to feel bad for homework. That's the
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: That's what I was getting. I was feeling bad for
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: having the entire time. It sounds bad, right because this
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: guy's just swiped in and Marge has fallen for It's
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: just weird.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: She fell under his spell. Yeah, his academic spell.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: We come back from commercial and mum, why do you
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: stop talking for two and a half minutes being in
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: a commercial break? I was like, twenty yes, and then
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: they're just splitting everything up and she's getting all the goodtuff.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: He's getting like the old the type writer. She's getting
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: the computer or whatever.
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: He well, he won though, because he's got the LP
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: he's been She got the CDs, yes, but what was
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: the stock? So he got en wrong and she got Microsoft? Yeah,
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: Microsoft a big winner. Enron absolute disaster. Yes.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Then they say who gets qute Puss? And he breaks
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: it and then bittersweet symphony players. It's just it's another
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: good use of music.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: Wasn't it. Yeah.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: So then he goes to mos which is now a
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: cigar bar, which apparently was a big thing in the
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: ninety cigar bars. Yeah, I don't really recall was old enough.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Marge is now going on tour with Professor August to
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Springfield's most non wheelchair friendly restaurants because he's just a touchebag.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: It's just it's that epitomizes his character, right.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it felt a little much for me, But then,
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: you know, we're talking about a twenty four minute sitcom episode.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: Of course we're going to sort of really go for
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: the gusto when it comes to stereotyping and whatnot, and
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: the oxygen gag here as well, which I liked. That
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: was good.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: But Homer sings shave Me, which is a parody of
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: rape me.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: Friends have played a bay.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: Shake me with.
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: Your eye, irony man.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: We're now at August House and Sadgasm comes on the radio.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Basically it's like I watched sports too, and he says
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: this big melodramatic thing about the end zone or whatever.
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: Is this where he says this is an entertainment, this
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: is genocide. Yeah, because the Patriots are in the redskins
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: en zon. It's like, come on, actually, pretty funny gig
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: if it's funny, come on. Oh yeah, this is exactly
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: where I've written. Okay, they're overdoing the professor. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: they're really laying on the political reckness aspect of it
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: really heavily. But also there's the underlying smarminess and douchitess. Yeah.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: And it is the first time he has to go
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: at March too because she puts on us the radio
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: and Sadgasm comes on.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: He goes, no, I want whale songs, and it's like, oh.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: Shit, So he asked, can I compliment your appearance? May
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: I preach you for a kiss? Harassment or willing consent.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: Willing consent.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: She's just like just kiss me like sake.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: It's very much Nicola. If I said can I, I
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: always do say, Like, when you're gonna kiss Louise, do
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: you say? Do you asked off for concept? But like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: is this like a mutual eyesight, like okay, we're going
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: for a kiss here or do you go, okay kiss you?
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: Well, now it's just smooching on us.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: I remember the first time you say the bones jumping
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: the bones.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: The first time I kissed, I said, I didn't say,
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: can I kiss you? I don't really want to kiss you?
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: He said, well, too bad?
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Who are you?
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: And I'd rather be going out with Brad Pitt? But
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: we can't hit everything we want? Who are Davis? You are?
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: Do you remember the first words you said to Louise
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: in person?
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: Yeah? Was it? So? Was it a blind day? What
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: was it? We met on Tinder? Ah? I was Tinder,
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: that's right, and we talked online for about a week.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: I think we may I don't know if we chatted
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: on the phone at all. We may have with video
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: and you can actually put the hand to the ear.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: It actually makes sense. What are you talking about? When
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: we met in person. The first thing I said to
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: her was, I thought the photo of you was gonna
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: be the prettiest thing I saw all night. Nice one,
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: and she was gorgeous.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: Nichola walked in on me in a toilet, so I
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: was We had a mutual friends party. It was the
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: thirtieth of April, because it was the same night that
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: the Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate got married. Because
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: Nicola said she was watching because she came back from
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Perth that night and she was watching that on the
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: television in the airport before she came back. A friend
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: of mine, Phil, who've mentioned the show before, my best
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: man at my wedding, he said, having a party at
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Someone told Howse she you want to come and I
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: was like, I'm just finished radio. I was like, I'm
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: pretty toys, id come come?
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: Come?
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: So we get there and Nichola had a mutual friend
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: who knew this person. So I'd never met Nichol before.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: She'd been a jown for like a month before she
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: went to Perth for visit. I never met during that time.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: She came back. The first night she came to that party.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: The toilet was in a bathroom, I used a toilet,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: was walking out. She walked in for first once, nicol
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: ever said to him, She's like, fuck, you're a cute
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: they aren't you.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: That's it.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: Since then, we spent two nights apart together at most,
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: so we've just been together ever since.
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: Then there was a rewriting history. Next first words were
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: in fact light a match. That's a very sweet story.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Yes, And then I very rarely made moves on girls
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: like it was just but I had Nicholas. Like I
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: remember saying to Nicola, no, and I was on the radio,
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: but I never like used that as like a pickup line.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: But I was just like, I'm a djub on the
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: radio and she was like bullshit, and I'm like, no,
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: We've got like the logo on my ass, and she
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: was like, we'll prove it. And I dropped my pants
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: in the street to prove that I had the I've
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: got a tedto on my ass of my radio show
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: logo lost the bet during the show and I showed
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: her that and she was just like, okay, cool, but.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: One might say one a bet.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: But then that's the thing. I was just like, I
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: never tried it with anyone else, but for Nicola. For
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: some reason, my brain was just like, no, you're going
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: to try it with this person? Yeah when you know
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: you know, yeah, it was just subconscious I was, but nope,
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: keep going, keep trying.
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: It'll pay off.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: Yes, and it did pay off, but the guys just
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: being a douchebake here ask complimently appearance gets the spooch
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: on with March but not having sex because she's not
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: having sex to a marriage. We established this already. Homer
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: now hates being famous. Every rock star's dream of hating
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: being famous. And with our Yanke Vick is covering Shaved
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: Me with his own song, and apparently Kirk Obain said,
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: I never felt famous until we had covered my song.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: But you know, as Homer says, he he who was
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: tired of weird al is tired of life.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: I was never like huge And with our Yankee Vick.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Songs, no, I think I again.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: I appreciate everything he's done, but respected the game more
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: than actually, yeah, well you're the one who's good at.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: This, aren't you. Yeah, I mean you're kind of.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: You've made it a thing. It's like you get all
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: these kids bands and was like, no, you're not the Wiggles.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: The Wiggles made this a thing. He's like the he's
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: the the Wiggles of that genre to Homer. Homers hate
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: has being famous. Of course, So margin August are now
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: at the lighthouse. But it's a fellow centric technocracy, violeting
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: mother nature.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: It's like they're just told those ships can say.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: No everything Pinischet is bad. And she sees a wedding
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: and this is what really this is where it really unravels.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: So she sees a wedding, Oh it's a wedding, or
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: slavery's alive and well in Springfield, and you're like, shut.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: Up, they're this guy.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: Yeah, they're over egging this particularly said I want to
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: get married one day. Was like that make people think
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: that women are still stupid. And she calls him associate
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: professor jerk and he takes it to heart and he says,
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: you know, get denied tenor because the department head it
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: was an idiot.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: And then so you could have made that a gag
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: as opposed to just a line.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Yeah, sort of his story wrapping up felt kind of
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: I thought, I think it would have been better if
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: I guess it was nice to say him get beaten
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: up a little bit, wasn't it, because he'd been a
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: douche bag. Margine's home on the TV, sing and Margarine.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Spread Yellow Girl on my pancake cart, Country jun Girl
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: in my grocery cart.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Could he be singing about me?
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: He is? I paid for her dreams.
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: She taught me to cry like Waterine knives like rain
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: from my eyes.
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: I can't believe you're not mine. I can't believe.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: You're not mine, my dream Drene.
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: Margarine, Magarine, Margarine, he loves me so much after what I.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: Did to him, And sad Gasamin is the new support
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: breaking up and hums hold himself on his manser because
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: he's got an addiction for that Kurt Loader reporting from
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: the nineties. Then Marge goes to rescue him, and he
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: walked in and as a needle in his arm, and.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: I was like, oh, sure, that's confronted him.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: Yeah, But it turns out that I knew it.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: He didn't need it. I thought that was a nice
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: little fat switch. Too many forrappuccino.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: Yes, he really did any injections. So he's now in hospital.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: She asked him to take her back and be on
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: the horizon. We've got reality shows, Britney spears, a lot
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: of home runs all of a sudden in the baseball
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: and the President.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: But I'm wondering if that's around the time of the
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: doping scan. Of course it is.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: Yeah, steroids in baseball, yep, and the talk about the
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: president who would never lie, never, never, never. So now
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: they're at the minigolf course, now, Philith, this was Matt
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: Salmon's way of trying to bring it back to the
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: history that we remember of when they first did it
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: in the put golf Mini Put. So they go to
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: minigov Course, in the castle, I think it was the
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: castle is at the windmill? I think it's a windmill,
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: win mill or the castle? Either way, Where did I miss?
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: How did it end? Did you ever get back together? Yep?
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: That professor couldn't keep me in march apart. I mean
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: unless he had been a little nicer at the beach.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: That professor did teach me one good lesson, Homie is
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: where my heart is.
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: And once we were back together, I was too happy
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: ever to grunge again.
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: I thought was a sweet ending.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: The professor from the UNI's outside Condham townies again, But
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: I thought all in all, why would you hate this episode?
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: I understand the gripe with the continuity, but I think
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: they establish at the start that this is just a
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: bit of fun.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: This is damning it with ray and praise. It's too
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: inoffensive to hate. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it. There
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: were ways to improve it.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Certainly as a nineties kid, I enjoyed it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: I thought it was just fine. Yeah, I'd give it
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: a tweet out of five.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, there's nothing wrong with I enjoyed this more than
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: most episodes I had in season nineteen so far. So anyway,
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: I wonder if the outrage came from Epler Boswegian as
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: much as what this one, because this one was just
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: like absolutely just like how dare you like? Principle on
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: the pulpit levels and I'm thinking they were just.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: How dear you would gret A Turnberg? Yeah, I just couldn't.
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: I could understand, but I don't get that now. Plupos
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: Wigan are far more of a debarkle than this. This
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: was a perfectly pleasant, i won't say non event but
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: a trifle. That's some with Mark koklek Roder. You're not
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: bad at your joke. You do Simpsons good. What do
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: we learn Bomber, What did.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: You learn from this episode, mister Davis.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: That the woke culture of the twenty twenties is really
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: just the new coke to the original the snags since
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: new age guys, it's really just a rebrand of full
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: throttle nineties political correctness.
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: I miss when ad breaks run into and a half minutes.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: Have you been you mentioned the Olympics earlier? Have you
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: been watching the twenty twent ten dollars? That's right? Yeah,
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: so you don't have to put up with any of
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: it ads, okay, peasants and non Channel nine and we're
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: seeing it like same ads all the time. And also
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: it's like, I think the problem with commercial TV is
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: actually the commercials. They've got these ads for Telstra, I'm
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: naming names folks, and then the weird sort of stop
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: motion animation. I get the feeling. Let someone at the
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: added and she's watched a lot of Wes Anderson's like,
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: we're going to be sort of weird and quirky and
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: a little bit of bleak, and you're not quite sure
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: what we're advertising and how we're going about it. I
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: was watching Going fuck Off. I own shares in Telstra.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: I might sell them because of these ads and shares
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: the only shares I own, I get a dividend of
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: something like fifty dollars a quarter. So yeah, but I said,
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: I'm gold nigger anyway, But yes, I do want shares
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: in Telstra, but after these ads, I'm thinking maybe not. Yes. Yeah.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: Watching the ten play app, which is Channel ten here
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: in Australia, we watch have you been paying attention?
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: On there?
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: Because I'm not watching its standard definition of Fox help,
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: and we don't have an area on our TV, so
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: we have to be only stream and so.
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: You're spitting like you're making some grand gesture. It's like
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: I couldn't do it anyway.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: So we watched it through the app and the ads
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: just every ad break is the same, like four or
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: five ads.
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: Yes, often they'll play the same ad back to bad.
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: Yes, And I'm like, we just saw this ad, why
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: is this on again? I like sexy Land, but still.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: I was already attending. I was already a patriot of sex.
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: You don't need to do the hard sount It did.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: Become like a little inject for us, though, because the
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: sexy Lent ad had sort of like a big, sort
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: of scale of society it was like a you know,
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: a drag, a drag queen. There was just a young white,
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: straight couple. There was an older woman and Nicko and I.
