- 1:34Speaker 3: Wednesday edition of the show. Big news, of course, around
- 1:36Speaker 3: these parts is our members' choice Federal Credit Union bucket
- 1:38Speaker 3: drop for the flood victims going on as we speak
- 1:41Speaker 3: on our lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East in Charleston.
- 1:44Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:44Speaker 3: In addition to members Choice, we're also working with Union
- 1:47Speaker 3: Mission and the Charleston Dirty Birds to pull this off.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Already had a lot of stuff dropped off, thank you
- 1:51Speaker 3: so much, and we started at seven this morning. We've
- 1:54Speaker 3: already had and I've got the exig I want to
- 1:56Speaker 3: make sure I get the verbiage right. I got it
- 1:57Speaker 3: in my notes over here somewhere. We had some from
- 2:00Speaker 3: the I think it's the Greater Charleston the Homebuilders Association
- 2:03Speaker 3: that dropped off several palettes of stuff out there early
- 2:06Speaker 3: this morning. Thank you to Steve Animal for kind of
- 2:08Speaker 3: coordinating that and those folks as well.
- 2:11Speaker 4: He is good for something.
- 2:11Speaker 3: He is good for something other than just his rugged, sexy,
- 2:14Speaker 3: good looks. But we're gonna spend a little a lot
- 2:17Speaker 3: of time actually talking about our event, which has happened
- 2:19Speaker 3: until six o'clock tonight. Also a little bit later on,
- 2:23Speaker 3: I've got the folks from Celtic Calling, which is a
- 2:26Speaker 3: big festival that kicks off today and runs through the
- 2:28Speaker 3: weekend in Charleston. We'll speak to Arianna about that, and
- 2:31Speaker 3: Senator Eric tar is here as well. That's a voice
- 2:33Speaker 3: that you heard, though, is the voice of my frequent
- 2:35Speaker 3: tag team partner Rob Reel from our sister station ninety
- 2:38Speaker 3: six one KWS. Good morning, Good morning, all decked out
- 2:41Speaker 3: in the Dirty Birds gear today I'm repping.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I had to make sure I had it ready to go.
- 2:47Speaker 7: I may or may not plan out what the hats
- 2:49Speaker 7: are going to be on a given day over the
- 2:51Speaker 7: course of it, but I had to make sure that
- 2:52Speaker 7: I had Dusty on my mind.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Dusty's on your mind. So, and for those of that
- 2:58Speaker 3: have not heard you on the air before, explainly, how
- 3:00Speaker 3: many hats do you have.
- 3:01Speaker 4: It's in the neighborhood of six hundred. It may be
- 3:05Speaker 4: north of that now.
- 3:06Speaker 7: So I do wear a different baseball cap every single
- 3:09Speaker 7: day over the course of the year.
- 3:10Speaker 4: There are a couple of.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Bins of retired hats, but I still have enough that
- 3:13Speaker 7: I can every single day. I have maybe a half
- 3:17Speaker 7: dozen dirty Birds at this point. Wow, Maybe I'm always
- 3:21Speaker 7: looking for more though, So you know, so drops, if
- 3:26Speaker 7: you ever want to drop some stuff on my desk,
- 3:28Speaker 7: you know what, I may or may not have a
- 3:29Speaker 7: bone to pick on the hats. We did not get
- 3:31Speaker 7: a Wheeler's hat last summer. We got shirts, but we
- 3:35Speaker 7: didn't get a Wheeler's.
- 3:36Speaker 3: That other voice, by the way, is Jill Garrett to
- 3:38Speaker 3: the Dirty Birds. So you know, it's kind of hard
- 3:41Speaker 3: to get a word in edgewise. When you put Robin
- 3:42Speaker 3: I together, you realize that, no, it's all good.
- 3:45Speaker 4: It's all good. So, Rob, how's it going out there?
- 3:47Speaker 2: So far?
- 3:47Speaker 7: As you mentioned, we've had a couple of truckloads I'm
- 3:50Speaker 7: always pleasantly surprised, but never shocked at the way West
- 3:55Speaker 7: Virginians show up for West Virginians. So one lady showed
- 3:59Speaker 7: up with an entire trunk full back seats folded down
- 4:03Speaker 7: and all that of actual buckets for us. We're calling
- 4:06Speaker 7: it the bucket drop because we're trying to put together
- 4:11Speaker 7: kits for folks. So think of those round five gallon
- 4:15Speaker 7: re sealable to put the lid on them buckets, and
- 4:18Speaker 7: then we want to fill them up with things like
- 4:20Speaker 7: hygiene products, first aid items, household cleaners, gloves and masks
- 4:24Speaker 7: and trash bags, everything you can think of. Bleach is
- 4:27Speaker 7: really important because you know residue is going to lead
- 4:30Speaker 7: to mold in these thirteen counties that have been affected
- 4:33Speaker 7: in southern West Virginia. And I think maybe most importantly,
- 4:36Speaker 7: as much as we talk about giving folks a mcguffin,
- 4:40Speaker 7: and in this case, it was the bucket, we want
- 4:42Speaker 7: to give you some tangible that you could give, that
- 4:43Speaker 7: you could think about. But at the end of the day,
- 4:46Speaker 7: cash and check donations to Union Mission are going to
- 4:49Speaker 7: go the farthest because they have they have volume buying power,
- 4:53Speaker 7: and that money can fill in the gaps. Once Jason
- 4:57Speaker 7: and the folks get down there with the trucks and
- 5:00Speaker 7: see what the needs are and how what we've got
- 5:02Speaker 7: fills in, then we can start filling in the cracks
- 5:04Speaker 7: and crevices with.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Oh, we need to go buy this, We need to
- 5:06Speaker 4: go a bit more of that.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Exactly exactly, so Rob the people I was referring to earlier,
- 5:12Speaker 3: the home Builders Association read to Charleston. John Copy, who's
- 5:16Speaker 3: with the Builders First Source Folks donated a palette of
- 5:19Speaker 3: trash bags, and Wilford Haynes from Ferguson Enterprises a pallet
- 5:23Speaker 3: of buckets and rags and other supplies to help.
- 5:25Speaker 4: That's what we're talking.
- 5:26Speaker 7: I've been a fan of John Copy since he was
- 5:27Speaker 7: John Original, So thank you, sir.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You go greatly appreciate. And those guys are great, by
- 5:32Speaker 3: the way for what they do. I've had them on
- 5:33Speaker 3: my show several times with various things that they're doing
- 5:37Speaker 3: in the community.
- 5:38Speaker 7: And it's all about giving back. I mean, that's that's
- 5:40Speaker 7: what the whole thing's about. And West Virginians helped West Virginians.
- 5:42Speaker 7: It's that simple. And if if you have been a
- 5:45Speaker 7: part or not of one of our drop events, and
- 5:48Speaker 7: I think maybe what I'm most proud of in the
- 5:50Speaker 7: two years that I have been back is that I
- 5:52Speaker 7: have created this sop, this repeatable process, so people understand
- 5:56Speaker 7: the loop through our parking lot seven to six, and
- 5:59Speaker 7: hopefully they understand that a little or a lot, whatever
- 6:03Speaker 7: you can give is going to be the right size.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Uh.
- 6:06Speaker 7: You know, we have folks who may show up with
- 6:08Speaker 7: like one jug of bleach because that they were at
- 6:11Speaker 7: the store they could afford will one extra thing that
- 6:14Speaker 7: is as important to us as a palette showing up
- 6:18Speaker 7: because at the end of the day, you know, your
- 6:20Speaker 7: drop in the bucket pardon the pun, is going to
- 6:22Speaker 7: fill up fast when we all team up for one another.
- 6:25Speaker 7: All right, we'll let you get back out there, sir,
- 6:26Speaker 7: appreciate you being here. Rob Reel from a Sister Nation
- 6:29Speaker 7: ninety six to one KWS. And if you're out there, Rob,
- 6:32Speaker 7: if you could do it, maybe around nine fifty, just
- 6:34Speaker 7: send me somebody in here.
- 6:35Speaker 4: It could be you.
- 6:36Speaker 3: If you want to bring Jason in, that'll be that'll
- 6:38Speaker 3: be fine. Rob Reel from a Sister Station ninety six

- 7:08Speaker 3: Joe Garn from The Dirty Birds is with us, and
- 7:11Speaker 3: you were able to survive the hurricane.
- 7:14Speaker 4: That is Robbin and Dave. When we get.
- 7:16Speaker 8: Together, yes, it's always entertaining. It wakes me up a
- 7:18Speaker 8: little bit more in the morning.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And we put Steve Animal with us. I mean it's
- 7:22Speaker 3: a totally different ball game. Whitney Hunt is with us
- 7:24Speaker 3: here from a Federal Members Choice Federal Credit union as well. Whitney,
- 7:28Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you
- 7:30Speaker 3: for being here. So Jill, what made the Dirty Birds
- 7:34Speaker 3: want to get involved in this?
- 7:36Speaker 8: I mean, look, we love partning with anything community we have.
- 7:40Speaker 8: We were reached out by a few community organizations nonprofits
- 7:44Speaker 8: that said, we need to help these flood victims, we
- 7:47Speaker 8: need to help these counties in West Virginia, and we
- 7:49Speaker 8: always want to hop on and help wherever we can.
- 7:51Speaker 8: And obviously partning with with WRC always makes it easier
- 7:55Speaker 8: for us too. We just want to give back to
- 7:58Speaker 8: the community as much as possible, whether it's financial or
- 8:01Speaker 8: physical donations, or just being able to help spread the
- 8:03Speaker 8: word through our social media networks.
- 8:05Speaker 3: All right, and Whitney, the same question for you, why
- 8:07Speaker 3: did the Members Choice decide to get involved in this?
- 8:09Speaker 3: And first of all, let me give you a little
- 8:11Speaker 3: commercial here. What exactly is Members Choice Federal Credit Union?
- 8:14Speaker 9: So Member's Choice West Virginia Federal Credit Union is a
- 8:17Speaker 9: credit union located at tuoh one Ohio Avenue in Charleston.
- 8:22Speaker 9: They charter nineteen different counties across the state of West Virginia.
- 8:26Speaker 9: And really, when it comes to credit unions, I think
- 8:29Speaker 9: the main thing that everybody knows about credit unions, it's
- 8:32Speaker 9: about community. It's a non for profit organization, it's made
- 8:37Speaker 9: up by its members. So once you have a share
- 8:42Speaker 9: or an account within the credit union, you are a
- 8:45Speaker 9: member of the credit union with voting rights. So it's
- 8:48Speaker 9: just natural that our credit union focuses so much on
- 8:52Speaker 9: community because if it wasn't for our community, there wouldn't
- 8:55Speaker 9: be a credit union.
- 8:56Speaker 3: So and this may be a little personal for you
- 8:59Speaker 3: as well, because you've got ties to that area down there.
- 9:03Speaker 9: Yeah. Absolutely, I grew up in Monroe County, West Virginia originally,
- 9:07Speaker 9: but I have family from McDowell County specifically, I have
- 9:12Speaker 9: family in Yager and Pineville.
- 9:14Speaker 10: I have brothers that live.
- 9:15Speaker 9: In Wyoming County. So definitely a lot of direct ties.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Down to all areas that were hit hard.
- 9:21Speaker 3: You know, we focused primarily on McDowell County in Mingo County,
- 9:26Speaker 3: but again, I'm a Logan County guy.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I've spent a lot of time.
- 9:28Speaker 3: My family's from Wyoming County originally, so I know this
- 9:31Speaker 3: area and this is an area that gets hit hard
- 9:35Speaker 3: a lot with these flooding But I mean, you know, Whitney,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I had people that they've been on the show and
- 9:40Speaker 3: they've been interviewed by other media outlet's saying that in
- 9:43Speaker 3: all their years, they've never seen devastation specifically like what
- 9:47Speaker 3: everybody harkens back to maybe nineteen seventy seven that was
- 9:50Speaker 3: a big flood down there, or maybe sixty three there
- 9:52Speaker 3: were Wyoming County was hit hard in the early two thousands,
- 9:55Speaker 3: but nothing quite like this.
- 9:58Speaker 9: No, my grandmother's act still in Jager, and my brothers
- 10:02Speaker 9: are in Wyoming County, and I was texting them like, hey,
- 10:05Speaker 9: are you all safe? This was before the flooding happened,
- 10:07Speaker 9: you know, are you all okay? Are you somewhere where
- 10:10Speaker 9: you're out of the way, And just it was a
- 10:12Speaker 9: scary evening because I'm sitting at home in Saint Aubans.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not a whole lot you can do well.
- 10:17Speaker 10: Can I Yeah?
- 10:17Speaker 9: What help can I provide? So I think they're safe,
- 10:20Speaker 9: they're good. But coming together afterwards to help our neighbors
- 10:25Speaker 9: and help people who unfortunately lost a lot, yeah during
- 10:28Speaker 9: that time is big.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And anything you know, we have on our all of
- 10:32Speaker 3: our social media, we have the list of everything that
- 10:34Speaker 3: we're looking for. And again Rob kind of came up
- 10:36Speaker 3: with the name of the bucket drive because we can
- 10:38Speaker 3: fill those buckets with things. But look, anything people can
- 10:40Speaker 3: give would be appreciated if they can get feed Like
- 10:43Speaker 3: if you're at your local dollar store and you can
- 10:45Speaker 3: afford one container of bleach. That's fine. You know, you
- 10:49Speaker 3: give us, you know, some washbrag, whatever you can afford,
- 10:52Speaker 3: and cash goes because we're giving it all to Union Mission,
- 10:55Speaker 3: the folks at Union Mission, by the way, And I
- 10:57Speaker 3: want to have Jason on a little bit later on.
- 10:59Speaker 3: They're out on the parking lot all day. They got
- 11:01Speaker 3: here about six point thirty this morning to set up.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So if you're thinking about donating and your one, well,
- 11:06Speaker 3: how exactly are they going to get this to the
- 11:09Speaker 3: folks that need talk to Jason, I mean, when they're
- 11:12Speaker 3: out on the parking lot, they'll explain exactly how they're
- 11:14Speaker 3: going to do it. And Jill, I also appreciate you
- 11:17Speaker 3: because you provided some Dirty Birds stuff for us to
- 11:21Speaker 3: give to select people, random people out on the parking
- 11:23Speaker 3: I'll talk about.
- 11:24Speaker 8: That one absolutely. Just a little bit of an incentive.
- 11:26Speaker 8: So we have two family four pack giveaways for the
- 11:29Speaker 8: twenty twenty five season that is good for any game
- 11:31Speaker 8: including opening Day on May second. So just a little
- 11:34Speaker 8: incentive where maybe you drop off one one gallon of
- 11:37Speaker 8: bleach and you walk away with four Dirty Birds tickets.
- 11:40Speaker 3: And I want to give a big shout out to
- 11:41Speaker 3: the folks at the local chick fil as here, Tom
- 11:44Speaker 3: menturn anytime that we are doing something like this, whether
- 11:47Speaker 3: it's sock drop, turkey drop, whatever, they show up with
- 11:50Speaker 3: like a handful of cards for us to give to
- 11:52Speaker 3: people for free breakfast, sandwiches and things of that nature.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And plus they feed all of our volunteers here. So
- 11:57Speaker 3: a big shout out to Tom Minturner and those folks. Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 3: I appreciate it. There's always you being here. Give me
- 12:02Speaker 3: a quick commercial for the Dirty Birds. I've been talking
- 12:04Speaker 3: about your your the festivities you have come up here
- 12:08Speaker 3: in a couple of weeks.
- 12:09Speaker 8: March eighth, so what two saturdays from now, it's our
- 12:12Speaker 8: single game. Tickets go on sale, so we're celebrating that.
- 12:14Speaker 8: Free inflatables on the field, free entry, check out, some
- 12:18Speaker 8: discounted merch, discounted food, and of course Dusty and some
- 12:22Speaker 8: Dirty Birds players will be there for pictures and autographs.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And that's all free of charge, all free.
- 12:27Speaker 8: Twelve to six on March eighth. Only thing you gotta
- 12:31Speaker 8: pay for some food and some merch, but.
- 12:33Speaker 3: You want it, but just to get in and take
- 12:34Speaker 3: advantage of the inflatables and so on and so.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Forth, no charge. All that is free it's gonna be
- 12:39Speaker 4: a great season.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I mean Dirty Birds did pretty well last sear I
- 12:42Speaker 3: mean made it to the championship.
- 12:43Speaker 8: Yep, first time the championship, and I think it was
- 12:45Speaker 8: so gosh twenty years something like that, yeah, right around
- 12:48Speaker 8: twenty years.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, And this season is going to be even bigger, better,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and we'll be spending a whole lot of time with
- 12:53Speaker 3: you during the season as we always do. We'll get
- 12:55Speaker 3: andy and we'll get the you know, all the players
- 12:57Speaker 3: and stuff in here as we get ready for opening day.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Because as I've been saying, and when I do your
- 13:00Speaker 3: commercial every day, it can't get here soon enough. With
- 13:03Speaker 3: this winter that we've met here in West Virginia, I
- 13:05Speaker 3: want to be at Go Mart Ballpark.
- 13:07Speaker 11: Yep.
- 13:07Speaker 8: I'm ready for some hot dogs in the crack of
- 13:09Speaker 8: the back.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Whitney, thank you so much for your organization for being
- 13:13Speaker 3: a part of this as well, because it's you know,
- 13:15Speaker 3: just because you're a company here in the canav Valley
- 13:18Speaker 3: doesn't mean or West Virginia that you have to take
- 13:20Speaker 3: part in things. But you guys and the Dirty Birds
- 13:22Speaker 3: and all these folks I mentioned that, you know, Chick
- 13:24Speaker 3: fil A and all these people, they step up every time,
- 13:26Speaker 3: and I really appreciate your guys involvement as well.
- 13:28Speaker 10: It's our pleasure, happy to do it.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And we'll be out on the parking lot again until
- 13:32Speaker 3: six o'clock today. I don't know who all's out there now.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Several somebody sent me a text that I have dirty
- 13:39Speaker 3: birds in the hall.
- 13:40Speaker 8: Oh yeah, we got Dusty's gonna be here soon, definitely.
- 13:43Speaker 3: One of our new employees here says, sends me a
- 13:45Speaker 3: text that I have dirty birds in the hall. I
- 13:47Speaker 3: don't know exactly what that means. So are they're gonna
- 13:50Speaker 3: be outside out on a lot?
- 13:51Speaker 7: Yep.
- 13:51Speaker 8: We're gonna have Dusty here for a little bit, all.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Right, and maybe we'll see how it works out. How
- 13:55Speaker 4: long are you all going to be here?
- 13:56Speaker 8: Probably for another two hours?
- 13:58Speaker 3: I say, okay, all right, so if you got some
- 13:59Speaker 3: players out about nine fifty, if you want to maybe
- 14:01Speaker 3: circle back and see if we can maybe get one
- 14:03Speaker 3: of them on the air at that time, because we're
- 14:04Speaker 3: gonna have a room full and we don't have the
- 14:06Speaker 3: big studio we used to have, but we're about to
- 14:08Speaker 3: have it again here, they tell me.
- 14:09Speaker 4: In a couple of weeks, all.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Right, we got to go Jill from the Dirty Birds Whitney.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here as well. Thanks a lot.

- 17:47Speaker 3: going on for several years now. Is actually kicks off
- 17:50Speaker 3: today in Charleston.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Then we'll run through the weekend. It's the Celtic Calling Event.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Ariana Kencaid is it Ariana, Ariana, Ariana, Ariana, none of
- 17:58Speaker 3: the above. The kid Kate is with us to talk
- 18:01Speaker 3: about it. Ariotta, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 18:03Speaker 10: Thank you for having me.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Someone is Celtic calling. I've
- 18:07Speaker 3: had Chris and some other folks on the past to
- 18:10Speaker 3: talk about it. But for those who may not know
- 18:12Speaker 3: what is a Celtic calling.
- 18:13Speaker 17: It is a celebration of Celtic heritage. In West Virginia
- 18:18Speaker 17: and Appalachia. There are seven Celtic nations. Primarily the ones
- 18:24Speaker 17: folks are most familiar with would be Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
- 18:28Speaker 17: And a lot of those folks settled here in West
- 18:30Speaker 17: Virginia because it looked a lot like home, and we
- 18:33Speaker 17: felt it was time to celebrate that, and so we've
- 18:37Speaker 17: been doing that for nine or ten years now. This
- 18:41Speaker 17: is our ninth celebration and so it gets started this
- 18:46Speaker 17: evening and goes through Sunday.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I think that's interesting that you bring that up, because
- 18:50Speaker 3: I'm not much of a story but I do read
- 18:52Speaker 3: some stuff from time to time, and this area, as
- 18:55Speaker 3: you said, was very similar to the homeland for a
- 18:57Speaker 3: lot of these people when they came here lately. I
- 18:59Speaker 3: mean right down of the terrain, the weather and everything
- 19:01Speaker 3: right looking.
- 19:02Speaker 17: I mean, if if you've been to the British Isles
- 19:06Speaker 17: and seen Ireland or Scotland, you know that I mean,
- 19:11Speaker 17: I was struck the time that I've been over there
- 19:14Speaker 17: that it it does.
- 19:16Speaker 10: Look so much like home.
- 19:17Speaker 17: And I was struck so much like with homesickness, you know,
- 19:20Speaker 17: I was only going going for a few days, but
- 19:22Speaker 17: that moment, it was just amazing to see how much
- 19:26Speaker 17: Ireland and Scotland looked like home. And I got it
- 19:30Speaker 17: in that moment that this did look like a place
- 19:33Speaker 17: that was very familiar. And if you're going to be
- 19:35Speaker 17: away from the people, you know, in love, you want
- 19:37Speaker 17: to be on the land, you know.
- 19:39Speaker 3: So, And not only did it look like it, but
- 19:41Speaker 3: we have a lot of the same traits, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 3: the same if get in the psychology aspect of it,
- 19:46Speaker 3: and we have a lot of those same traits.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Talk about that a little bit. You're laughing about that,
- 19:50Speaker 4: but am I wrong?
- 19:52Speaker 17: You're not wrong? Digging in being stubborn. Sure, yeah, that's
- 19:56Speaker 17: what we do.
- 19:56Speaker 4: That's what we do. Yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 3: And again, you know, I'm kind of on this entire show,
- 20:01Speaker 3: todam kind of wrapping it back around to our efforts
- 20:03Speaker 3: out on the parking lot right there, this coming together
- 20:06Speaker 3: of people hope we've already seen in our parking lot
- 20:09Speaker 3: that's right from our forefathers, man, I mean, is it not.
- 20:11Speaker 3: That's what they It's what they did to and this rugged,
- 20:13Speaker 3: rugged individualism, as a certain radio talk show host.
- 20:17Speaker 17: Used to say, but also a sense of community that
- 20:20Speaker 17: you know, having a clan with whom you were affiliated
- 20:24Speaker 17: and who you were you know, you swore to help,
- 20:28Speaker 17: you swore fealty too, and you were there for them
- 20:31Speaker 17: no matter what.
- 20:32Speaker 10: And that's that's what we do.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Talking about the Kelty College event. It's nine twenty eight
- 20:36Speaker 3: but Dave Allen Show and five Idy Live brought to
- 20:38Speaker 3: you in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 20:40Speaker 3: Dirty Birds again season kickoff party. You heard Jill talking
- 20:43Speaker 3: about it. Go mart Ballpark Saturday, March eighth, noondal. Six
- 20:46Speaker 3: season tickets available then free admission, all sorts of giveaways,
- 20:50Speaker 3: many golf inflatables for the kids, picks with Dusty the mascot,
- 20:52Speaker 3: and more. For visit more, visit dirty Birds Baseball dot
- 20:55Speaker 3: com or check out the Dirty Birds Facebook page. All right,
- 20:58Speaker 3: so talk about the things that are happening. I mean,
- 21:01Speaker 3: you start today and you go through the weekend. Give
- 21:03Speaker 3: us some of the activities.
- 21:04Speaker 17: Well, this evening, we start out with the movie Kneecap
- 21:09Speaker 17: at the floor Ley Clark Hark Cohen Cinema. It's twelve
- 21:14Speaker 17: dollars adults, seven dollars in for students at seven point thirty.
- 21:20Speaker 17: And that's an award winning movie that was nominated for
- 21:26Speaker 17: several Bafto Awards, which they just recently held about hip
- 21:31Speaker 17: hop group in Ireland. That is bringing back interest in
- 21:34Speaker 17: the Gaelic language in Ireland.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That's interesting in a hip hop group, Yes, bringing back
- 21:42Speaker 3: interest in the Gaelic language.
- 21:44Speaker 10: Yes, in Northern Ireland.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty good stuff.
- 21:47Speaker 17: Yeah, it's really interesting and I've we've got a chance
- 21:51Speaker 17: to see it this evening because of Celtic calling. And
- 21:55Speaker 17: we also have a lot of events at the library
- 21:58Speaker 17: and tomorrow the the Irish Road, i mean the Charleston
- 22:02Speaker 17: Rogues are kicking things off at the short Story Brewing
- 22:08Speaker 17: on Summer Street. We've got a lot of events and
- 22:11Speaker 17: vendors Saturday at Slack Plaza downtown. Sunday we have the
- 22:16Speaker 17: Irish Road bowling at Kanawa State Forest and the playwriting Contest.
- 22:23Speaker 17: We perform those plays at four o'clock at short Story.
- 22:27Speaker 10: There's also a.
- 22:28Speaker 17: Storytelling contest on Saturday. There's the bastard bearded Irishman playing
- 22:36Speaker 17: at the Empty Glass on Saturday night. There's some painting,
- 22:42Speaker 17: there's let's see children's story walk and making take craft
- 22:48Speaker 17: activities at Slack Plaza and at the Library, Scottish Attire,
- 22:55Speaker 17: pop up shop at Roxy Cake Company, just so many
- 23:02Speaker 17: different things. A kaylee at First Presby or Kanawa United
- 23:07Speaker 17: Presbyterian Church with music by the Mudlarks. Just if you
- 23:12Speaker 17: can't find something that that interests you, you are not
- 23:15Speaker 17: looking for and that's that.
- 23:16Speaker 4: That's on you.
- 23:17Speaker 17: All this and a parade Saturday.
- 23:20Speaker 3: At four, at a parade Saturday at four and to
- 23:22Speaker 3: top it all off, we gotta we got a parade.
- 23:25Speaker 3: So again this obviously, I mean you start off with
- 23:28Speaker 3: this idea, you know, a few years ago to do
- 23:31Speaker 3: this thing. And obviously, in the world of promotions, things
- 23:34Speaker 3: don't continue if they're not popular. People in Charleston must
- 23:36Speaker 3: really really dig.
- 23:37Speaker 10: This, I think so.
- 23:39Speaker 17: And it has grown every year we have I think
- 23:42Speaker 17: we've added something every year. Foot Mad has has typically
- 23:48Speaker 17: had a Celtic oriented concert that becomes one of our staples.
- 23:56Speaker 10: Uh, it's like the.
- 23:57Speaker 17: Cornerstone of the festival. On Saturday night this year is
- 24:02Speaker 17: the Jeremiah's and the Jeremiahs are also going to be
- 24:04Speaker 17: doing a workshop at at the library on Saturday. We've
- 24:11Speaker 17: really had a lot of buy in from the local
- 24:14Speaker 17: community and folks just wanting to be a big part
- 24:17Speaker 17: of it. And I think not having had something that's
- 24:22Speaker 17: celebrated the Celtic heritage, the Scottish, the Irish, the Welsh
- 24:30Speaker 17: in this area for so long, people are excited for it. It
- 24:35Speaker 17: is just a couple of weeks before Saint Patrick's Day,
- 24:38Speaker 17: but it really does celebrate the culture and not just the.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Maybe not just the.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Commercialism, not just the commercialism, because I mean, let's face it,
- 24:48Speaker 3: everybody loves a good Saint Patrick's party, but you know
- 24:51Speaker 3: Saint Patrick's has become so commercialized. Yeah, much like other holidays,
- 24:56Speaker 3: it has. And there's nothing wrong with that, a like,
- 24:58Speaker 3: I'm ultimate capitalist, let's make money when we can.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I get that.
- 25:01Speaker 3: However, this is more about the culture and not just
- 25:04Speaker 3: a two or three hour you know, reason to get
- 25:06Speaker 3: drunk and have green beer.
- 25:08Speaker 17: Right, and I love beer, the green not so much. Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 17: So I mean it's it's a good time to be
- 25:17Speaker 17: to celebrate those things, the other things that are great
- 25:20Speaker 17: about Saint Patrick's Day.
- 25:21Speaker 10: Not just the beer.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Now there's anything wrong with that all exactly there will be,
- 25:26Speaker 3: But I would think that there is a lot of
- 25:29Speaker 3: there are a lot of opportunities here are ina for
- 25:32Speaker 3: for for education, uh, for the for for for the youngins.
- 25:35Speaker 3: As we say in West Virginia, you know, to look
- 25:37Speaker 3: at these and say, this is this is this is
- 25:40Speaker 3: where you come from, this is this is your this
- 25:42Speaker 3: is your people, this is our heritage.
- 25:44Speaker 17: Absolutely, and there's there are also some genealogy workshops. There's
- 25:49Speaker 17: a group the pop up shop at Rock City with
- 25:52Speaker 17: the Tartans. That's a great time to learn why Tartans
- 25:55Speaker 17: are a thing. The fact that they were outlawed after
- 26:00Speaker 17: the Jacobite Uprising of seventeen forty five because it was
- 26:04Speaker 17: such as it identified people with their areas in Scotland
- 26:10Speaker 17: and the British. The English didn't want that. They wanted to,
- 26:15Speaker 17: you know, keep them down trodden, so they outlawed the
- 26:18Speaker 17: Tartans and they outlawed the bagpipes. And so looking at
- 26:21Speaker 17: where your family came from with that, with that Scottish heritage,
- 26:25Speaker 17: and knowing who your name, you know, what clan your
- 26:29Speaker 17: name was affiliated with, and being able to look at
- 26:31Speaker 17: how they identified themselves as is another educational activity that
- 26:36Speaker 17: you could certainly stick around and learn about.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Before we let you go, I want to I want
- 26:41Speaker 4: to know about you.
- 26:42Speaker 3: How did you get all this knowledge that you have
- 26:44Speaker 3: is it's just something that you've studied your whole life.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Obviously you're very passionate about it. I mean, talk about
- 26:50Speaker 3: you for a little bit.
- 26:51Speaker 17: Well, Kincaid is a Scottish clan and I have a
- 26:55Speaker 17: cousin who was very into geology and Scottish history and.
- 27:04Speaker 10: He taught me some of that.
- 27:06Speaker 17: A few years ago at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina.
- 27:13Speaker 17: We went, we were there and Clan Kincaid was the
- 27:18Speaker 17: honored clan and I got to meet our clan chief,
- 27:22Speaker 17: who is Madam Arabella Kincaid, and she's a lovely woman,
- 27:28Speaker 17: and it was just really fascinating to see all of that.
- 27:32Speaker 10: And you know, we were at Stirling Castle.
- 27:35Speaker 17: With Robert, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace and learning
- 27:40Speaker 17: all of these things about how far our family name
- 27:44Speaker 17: goes back, and how much it took to get to
- 27:48Speaker 17: the United States and what it you know, what it
- 27:52Speaker 17: must have been like to have to leave. It's just
- 27:54Speaker 17: really fascinating to see what motivates people to pick up
- 27:59Speaker 17: and leave somewhere and start over somewhere else. And history
- 28:02Speaker 17: is just people's motivations are always really fascinating.
- 28:05Speaker 4: I agree.
- 28:06Speaker 3: You have a text here for you. It says, is
- 28:08Speaker 3: there a cost for the genealogy workshop?
- 28:11Speaker 10: Let me check. I don't believe so.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I need the Jeopardy theme here. That's all right, that's
- 28:21Speaker 4: all right. I got to put you on the spot here.
- 28:22Speaker 3: But hey, at least you know one person's listening, right, Yeah, absolutely,
- 28:26Speaker 3: we're looking.
- 28:31Speaker 10: We're looking. There's also a Celtic arms demonstration.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Where is the best place while you're looking? If you
- 28:44Speaker 3: can multitask here, I'm sure you can't. Where's the best
- 28:46Speaker 3: place for people? Because you threw out a lot of
- 28:48Speaker 3: information website. I know you have a social media page
- 28:50Speaker 3: and you have a Facebook page dot org celticcalling dot

- 32:46Speaker 3: to you by the fine folks at a members' choice

- 32:54Speaker 4: We'll check back in with those folks coming up a
- 32:56Speaker 4: little bit later on.
- 32:57Speaker 3: But I want to welcome into the show now Senator
- 32:59Speaker 3: Eric Tarr, who's not here, but he's in the belly
- 33:01Speaker 3: of the Beast of the Capitol.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, and good morning Dave.
- 33:04Speaker 15: How are you this morning?
- 33:05Speaker 3: Bye, Thank you for being here, and welcome back to
- 33:08Speaker 3: the show. How before we get into what you're here
- 33:10Speaker 3: to talk about, Center how's session been so far?
- 33:13Speaker 15: You know, it's a little slower pace and then what
- 33:17Speaker 15: we've seen in previous years. I get that question a
- 33:19Speaker 15: lot because you know, it says where we've had a
- 33:21Speaker 15: third legislature switch over and then we have a new
- 33:24Speaker 15: governor's administration. There's a lot of people who are just
- 33:26Speaker 15: learning the ropes, which I believe has kind of slowed
- 33:29Speaker 15: the process down a little bit. You know, usually out
- 33:31Speaker 15: of the Senate, we've by this point, we've probably passed
- 33:34Speaker 15: anywhere between twenty five and forty bills, and we're probably
- 33:38Speaker 15: knocking on ten bills you know, come out of now.
- 33:41Speaker 15: So it's just a little bit slower pace, tends to
- 33:43Speaker 15: be a little more legwork on the back end to
- 33:46Speaker 15: go through things that were just kind of more automatic
- 33:48Speaker 15: in the past.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So I want to talk about a bill, a Senator
- 33:51Speaker 3: that you sponsored, SB two O four. It would make
- 33:54Speaker 3: opioid treatment programs using, as best I understand it, on
- 33:58Speaker 3: site administration or the dispensing of substances and in that
- 34:03Speaker 3: think methadone things like that make those illegal in the
- 34:07Speaker 3: state of West Virginia. Why did you put your name
- 34:09Speaker 3: on this bill as a sponsor?
- 34:10Speaker 8: Sir?
- 34:12Speaker 15: You know, it's no secret where West Virginia stands as
- 34:15Speaker 15: far as our addiction for capita and overdose for capita,
- 34:19Speaker 15: we are the highest in the country at the number
- 34:23Speaker 15: of people we have that are addicted tobioids in West
- 34:26Speaker 15: Virginia are in the country. And then on the overdose
- 34:29Speaker 15: same thing, and the next closest state to us, which
- 34:31Speaker 15: I believe is Tennessee, we double their rate. How far
- 34:34Speaker 15: above it we are. In addition to that, you know
- 34:39Speaker 15: the Westrnias GDP. So if you take every dollar that's
- 34:42Speaker 15: spent in West Virginia on anything as a little over
- 34:44Speaker 15: eighty billion dollars, and there was a study back in
- 34:46Speaker 15: twenty sixteen and this is and it's got worse since then,
- 34:50Speaker 15: but about ten percent of West Virginia's GDP went toward
- 34:55Speaker 15: the drug problem that we have, and so it was
- 34:57Speaker 15: over eight billion dollars a year and some fashion there's
- 35:00Speaker 15: a dollar spent to go after addiction. So what has
- 35:05Speaker 15: happened in West Virginia over those years is that we
- 35:08Speaker 15: have kind of thrown every possible thing you can at
- 35:11Speaker 15: addiction to see if you could curb this. Nationally, there's
- 35:15Speaker 15: been the curb down, but in Westervirgnia follows that trandnationally,
- 35:17Speaker 15: so it's not anything that wester Renia has done specifically,
- 35:21Speaker 15: But in spite of all that, our addiction rates have
- 35:24Speaker 15: climb to climb and climb for years. So one of
- 35:27Speaker 15: the things that we've seen is that because of throwing
- 35:31Speaker 15: all those funds at it, is that with West Virginia
- 35:34Speaker 15: and trying to solve the problem has created an industry
- 35:37Speaker 15: that thrives on the problem. And they it's it's a profiteer.
- 35:41Speaker 15: So as long as people stay addicted and they turn
- 35:44Speaker 15: through these meals you have, you have these rehab facilities,
- 35:47Speaker 15: and you have treatment you know, and I'm gonna put that,
- 35:50Speaker 15: you know, I'm losing that term loosely, treatment facilities that
- 35:55Speaker 15: are attracting people who would be addicted and.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Hoping.
- 36:01Speaker 15: There's no hope for cure. There's absolutely no intention for cure.
- 36:04Speaker 15: It's just that they're going to run these people through
- 36:06Speaker 15: until there's no money and there's plenty of people waiting
- 36:08Speaker 15: to take their spot, and they dump them on the
- 36:09Speaker 15: streets western you and go. So one of the things
- 36:12Speaker 15: that as we conquered pain clinics, which were part of
- 36:15Speaker 15: what really got this thing started plus. Back in the nineties,
- 36:17Speaker 15: you know that pain was considered a fifth indicator of
- 36:22Speaker 15: things that you had to address, just like you address
- 36:25Speaker 15: your blood pressure, your heart rate and those type of things.
- 36:27Speaker 15: You had to look at pain. And in doing so
- 36:30Speaker 15: oxycon and oxicodone, a lot of stuff became available, and
- 36:32Speaker 15: then you have pain. Clinics thought, you know what, we
- 36:33Speaker 15: can make money on this, and that's almost all they did.
- 36:35Speaker 15: They just pushed that stuff and got a lot of
- 36:37Speaker 15: people addicted. We squashed that a good while back, and
- 36:42Speaker 15: so now what's taken that place that they stand along
- 36:44Speaker 15: methadone clinics, which they stand along methadone clinics don't have
- 36:47Speaker 15: wrap around services, They don't have the facilities there to
- 36:51Speaker 15: treat you. What they do is they build out methadone,
- 36:54Speaker 15: which is just another narcotic that has no intention of
- 37:00Speaker 15: getting you off your addiction cycle.
- 37:02Speaker 2: It just lowered it.
- 37:03Speaker 15: It makes you a functional addict. And there's also you
- 37:05Speaker 15: can sell the methodone, so it's easily diverted. If you
- 37:08Speaker 15: go to one of the methadone clinics, you can pay cash,
- 37:10Speaker 15: get your methodone, turn around, meet somebody else out in
- 37:12Speaker 15: the street, and sell it. So it attracts the market
- 37:15Speaker 15: to these centers. So West Virginia few years back, we
- 37:17Speaker 15: put a moratorium on them because we realize that man,
- 37:20Speaker 15: these things are these things are geting out of control.
- 37:21Speaker 15: They were trying to pop up everywhere because they were
- 37:23Speaker 15: so cash rich. A bunch of people from outside of
- 37:25Speaker 15: West Virginia opening these businesses to keep turning this mill
- 37:30Speaker 15: of people addicted. So what this does. This bill intends
- 37:35Speaker 15: to outlaw stand along methadone clinics. And that's I think
- 37:40Speaker 15: that that's a good thing for West Virginia because what
- 37:43Speaker 15: we are doing is not a service to a person
- 37:45Speaker 15: who's addicted, unless you're just wanting to continue to foster
- 37:49Speaker 15: their addiction. So that's the intent of the bill. There's
- 37:53Speaker 15: been a lot of them on the short tile of
- 37:55Speaker 15: the bill's unfortunately, I think other than I think it's
- 37:57Speaker 15: actually brought it to people's attention and we get to
- 37:59Speaker 15: have this discussion. Is that the short tile of bills
- 38:02Speaker 15: that came out said, I think it's outlawing, outlawing opioid
- 38:06Speaker 15: treatment centers, But you have to look in the bill.
- 38:09Speaker 15: So if you just go off that you have a
- 38:10Speaker 15: bunch of groups out there, then aha, here's our opportunity
- 38:13Speaker 15: to fight this. He's outlawed centered tars, trying to outlaw
- 38:16Speaker 15: all the treatments for addiction.
- 38:18Speaker 12: That's not the case.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Yeah, And I want to and I read through the
- 38:20Speaker 3: bills and again we're talking with Senat derreic Tar. I
- 38:22Speaker 3: read the bill yes yesterday and people can read it
- 38:25Speaker 3: from themselves as SB two oh four. This is not
- 38:27Speaker 3: outlawing treatment facility such as as you said, rehabilitation centers
- 38:32Speaker 3: that are offering counseling and I think maybe a recovery
- 38:35Speaker 3: point or something like that.
- 38:36Speaker 4: This is not what this is intended to do. Senator
- 38:39Speaker 4: am I right, Yeah, that's correct me.
- 38:41Speaker 15: If you go down and you look at opioid treatment
- 38:43Speaker 15: center for this section of code, it's defined and that
- 38:46Speaker 15: definition is there to essentially define a methadone clinic. So
- 38:51Speaker 15: we're trying to capture that. In the bill, there's opioid
- 38:56Speaker 15: agonist and partial agonist, and a partial agonist would be
- 38:59Speaker 15: something like box own. And when we were first contemplating
- 39:02Speaker 15: the bill, which is bill I think as a bill
- 39:03Speaker 15: ran last year as well, we wanted a discussion. We
- 39:07Speaker 15: come out to see how and where that's being used
- 39:10Speaker 15: as well. Some of the things that as these as
- 39:13Speaker 15: this industry continues to evolve, there's things that get past
- 39:17Speaker 15: us as regulators, I guess and as as legislators that
- 39:22Speaker 15: sometimes it's new so fast that it's a problem before
- 39:25Speaker 15: we ever start to know that as a problem we
- 39:28Speaker 15: need to address. That's happened with our pure recovery homes.
- 39:32Speaker 15: They're they're another thing that that is just dumping people
- 39:35Speaker 15: from all over the country on the streets of West Virginia.
- 39:37Speaker 15: Addicted that we have to figure out how to get
- 39:39Speaker 15: in and get a handle on. These type of businesses
- 39:44Speaker 15: are part of what grows that that that spend on
- 39:47Speaker 15: our upwood program programs, and there's over ten percent of
- 39:51Speaker 15: our GDP because it's so profitable even if you don't
- 39:56Speaker 15: produce results, and we are we have proven and in
- 40:00Speaker 15: in a very large fashion, that our rehabilitation efforts in
- 40:04Speaker 15: West Virginia are not bending the curve. So if it's not,
- 40:10Speaker 15: then why do we continue to grow to spend on it.
- 40:12Speaker 15: So we should be able to go back and look
- 40:14Speaker 15: at things that have obviously failed, things that actually sustain
- 40:18Speaker 15: addiction and eliminate those mistakes for having allowed it. And
- 40:21Speaker 15: this is one of those mistakes. And I think the
- 40:23Speaker 15: conversation needs to happen.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Just be two to oh four.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Senator Eric Tar will be following it closely. I appreciate
- 40:29Speaker 3: you being here. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
- 40:31Speaker 15: All right, thanks they thank you.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Senator Eric Tar, twenty two minutes away from Tima, Dave Island,

- 40:44Speaker 4: Visit Bridge Valley dot edus last Win Academy for more information.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I think it's very important to point out, as Senator
- 40:50Speaker 3: Tar did there, that this has to be two o four,
- 40:52Speaker 3: does not go after rehabilitation centers that are offering counseling,
- 40:56Speaker 3: because anyone will tell you it's there's a if you
- 41:00Speaker 3: want to get off something, there's a big component. It's
- 41:02Speaker 3: not just the physical aspect of getting off of it.
- 41:05Speaker 3: There's the emotional, the psychological that goes with it too.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And a lot of these facilies, not all, but a
- 41:10Speaker 3: lot of these facilities they pretty much give you your
- 41:12Speaker 3: stuff and send you on your way. And that's not
- 41:15Speaker 3: I don't know, I'm not an expert in this field,
- 41:17Speaker 3: but I don't know if that does anybody you have
- 41:19Speaker 3: for a lot of good. This is not going to
- 41:20Speaker 3: touch your traditional rehabilitation center should this pass. This is

- 45:27Speaker 3: the GOP Trump tax policy. Anyone making over three hundred
- 45:30Speaker 3: and sixty thousand dollars a year will get a tax decrease.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Anyone making less will not. Anyone making between one hundred

- 45:38Speaker 3: we'll see their taxes raised six hundred and ten dollars
- 45:41Speaker 3: to fifteen hundred dollars. So pretty much all West Virginias
- 45:43Speaker 3: will have their federal taxes raised under Trump's plan, says

- 46:06Speaker 4: gonna start with you, how's it going. It's going well.
- 46:08Speaker 21: We've got a rather large truck out there, and it's
- 46:11Speaker 21: getting rather full, so we need to keep it up.
- 46:15Speaker 21: It's it's warming up today, so we're appreciative of everybody
- 46:19Speaker 21: coming out and donating.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and and Troy, I tell you, I understand there
- 46:23Speaker 3: is another truck I've been told coming this afternoon around
- 46:26Speaker 3: two or three o'clock or so, and it's going to
- 46:29Speaker 3: have even more stuff coming. But we don't want people
- 46:31Speaker 3: to think with this that you know, you got to
- 46:33Speaker 3: break a truck up. You know, we'll take that. But
- 46:35Speaker 3: if you could, as Rob said earlier, if you're at
- 46:37Speaker 3: your local dollar store, maybe run out under lunch break
- 46:40Speaker 3: or something, going to the post office, if you can
- 46:41Speaker 3: give us a gallon of bleach, you know, whatever you
- 46:44Speaker 3: could afford, we'll take it.
- 46:45Speaker 22: Oh, it's awesome. Yeah, And the fact that way you
- 46:46Speaker 22: guys got to set up it's perfect. People can just
- 46:48Speaker 22: drive through real quickly, don't even have to get out
- 46:50Speaker 22: of the car. We were standing out there earlier today
- 46:53Speaker 22: and two ladies are out exercise, and they stopped and
- 46:56Speaker 22: she grabbed her wallet out of her pocket there and
- 46:59Speaker 22: and gave us some cash and we'll take all of
- 47:02Speaker 22: that we can. Obviously, with our purchasing power, we can
- 47:04Speaker 22: take cash and convert that into the products we need
- 47:07Speaker 22: at a little bit better than retail price. But yeah,
- 47:09Speaker 22: if people want to drive up and just hand us
- 47:13Speaker 22: some cash, give us a bucket, give us a box
- 47:15Speaker 22: of Kleanex, whatever, whatever we got, we'll take it.
- 47:18Speaker 4: We'll take it.
- 47:19Speaker 3: And again, you guys at Union mentioned are going to
- 47:21Speaker 3: make sure that that's been distributed. I had when adjacent
- 47:24Speaker 3: On the show yesterday he talked about that, and we've
- 47:26Speaker 3: already got the contacts made with people down in McDowell County,
- 47:30Speaker 3: Wyoming County to make sure it gets to the people
- 47:32Speaker 3: that need it because it's people are hurting, man, they
- 47:34Speaker 3: really are.
- 47:35Speaker 22: Yeah, it's definitely a rough situation down there. And the
- 47:39Speaker 22: fact that we do have communication with key contact points
- 47:43Speaker 22: in these counties, then we can drive straight down there, unload,
- 47:47Speaker 22: come back and get another load if we need to,
- 47:49Speaker 22: so we can keep serving as long as the needs there.
- 47:52Speaker 3: But Dave Aland Show on five eighty Live is brought
- 47:54Speaker 3: you in part by Meeks Realty Group. Looking for experience.
- 47:57Speaker 3: You can trust Rich the realtor at Meeks is one
- 47:59Speaker 3: of the area premieer agent specializing in both commercial and
- 48:02Speaker 3: residential real estate for expert guidance and proven results called
- 48:05Speaker 3: mes Realty Group. Contact Rich three zero four nine three
- 48:08Speaker 3: two seventy four eighty eight or email our client that's
- 48:11Speaker 3: climbed with a k at Meekesrealtygroup dot Com. As I said,
- 48:13Speaker 3: you couldn't ask for better weather. I mean when we
- 48:15Speaker 3: did the sock drop out here, Man Ashley in her
- 48:18Speaker 3: office as I mentioned this earlier, was what kind of
- 48:20Speaker 3: the one that put this thing? To help us put
- 48:21Speaker 3: this thing together? And she said, we couldn't get people
- 48:23Speaker 3: out there in the parking lot. Now on a day
- 48:25Speaker 3: like today, these people that are supposed to set behind
- 48:27Speaker 3: their cubicles and do sales and things of that nature,
- 48:30Speaker 3: they all want to be outside today.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 48:32Speaker 22: Yeah, it's it's definitely a change from the last time.
- 48:36Speaker 22: So it's welcome and hopefully it gets more people out
- 48:39Speaker 22: and coming by and just be.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Able to enjoy this beautiful weather.
- 48:42Speaker 3: And I know that, Troy, I know you had a
- 48:44Speaker 3: lot of the marketing for Union Mission, talk about the
- 48:46Speaker 3: overall mission of Union Mission, either one that you can
- 48:49Speaker 3: jump in here, but go.
- 48:50Speaker 22: Ahead yeah, so our tagline is, you know, we feed people.
- 48:53Speaker 22: So that's that's where the mission. The Mission is one
- 48:55Speaker 22: hundred and thirteen years old and has been serving the
- 48:57Speaker 22: greater Charleston central West Virginia area for that many years.
- 49:00Speaker 22: It's it's it's just an incredible organization. It's been a
- 49:03Speaker 22: real pleasure to work with them. But yeah, we have
- 49:06Speaker 22: addiction recovery services, we have disaster recovery services like we're
- 49:11Speaker 22: experiencing now, emergency relief. We have homeless opportunities there with
- 49:16Speaker 22: our our shelter downtown, so we serve men in that
- 49:20Speaker 22: and that's capacity. So it's it's just been a great organization.
- 49:24Speaker 22: We look at adapting over the last century. We've adapted
- 49:29Speaker 22: to what the West Virginia need is. Back in the day,
- 49:32Speaker 22: we used to have a mattress factory. We we dealt
- 49:34Speaker 22: a lot with alcohol addiction, there was gambling addictions. It's
- 49:37Speaker 22: just wherever the need was, Union Mission has always adapted
- 49:40Speaker 22: to try to fit that need.
- 49:41Speaker 3: And this is another example of that because you know,
- 49:44Speaker 3: again I told the story yesterday, we were in our
- 49:47Speaker 3: office substairs and talking about what we could do about
- 49:50Speaker 3: a week or so ago and I get a text
- 49:52Speaker 3: from Jason. It just says, hey, what can we do,
- 49:54Speaker 3: and like okay, here we go. You know, it's another
- 49:56Speaker 3: great partnership between Union Mission and WVRC Media. And we're
- 50:00Speaker 3: as I said, we're going to be out there on
- 50:02Speaker 3: the parking lot until six o'clock tonight, and we are
- 50:06Speaker 3: blessed here to have this facility that we have because
- 50:10Speaker 3: people could literally drive through. They never have to get
- 50:12Speaker 3: out of their car. I mean, you may want to
- 50:13Speaker 3: get out of your car and stretch a little bit
- 50:15Speaker 3: on a nice day like today, but you don't have to.
- 50:17Speaker 3: And we've got a staff out there all of our
- 50:19Speaker 3: stations from V one hundred to CHS, the Mountain, Kaz,
- 50:24Speaker 3: the Beats, you know, all of us, all of our stations, Kaz,
- 50:29Speaker 3: We're all out there. All the personalities are lack of
- 50:32Speaker 3: Sometimes we'll be out there. We bring the sales weasels
- 50:34Speaker 3: out there and make them do a little work too.
- 50:35Speaker 3: In the office. People, it's a great chance to come
- 50:37Speaker 3: hang out with us as if that's an incentive. Plus,
- 50:40Speaker 3: we are choosing people at random for giveaways from some
- 50:44Speaker 3: station gear. I mentioned Tom Minturn at Chick fil A's
- 50:47Speaker 3: providing lunch for us today and every so often we'll
- 50:50Speaker 3: just go grab a car and say here, go get
- 50:52Speaker 3: yourself free chicken. I think it's breakfast breakfast biscuit from
- 50:57Speaker 3: the folks at Chick fil A. So we're doing that
- 50:59Speaker 3: as well. The Dirty Birds are out there as of
- 51:01Speaker 3: right now, is Dusty still out there? Dusty the mascot
- 51:04Speaker 3: is out there for the next couple of hours. I
- 51:06Speaker 3: think some Dirty Bird players are out there on the
- 51:08Speaker 3: parking lot as well. It's just a great partnership and
- 51:10Speaker 3: we appreciate you guys being a part of it as well.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Now I think it's time for you to get back outside. Now, yeah,
- 51:16Speaker 3: we got to get back to work.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Appreciate you. Guess Jason's tough. I mean, he's really a
- 51:20Speaker 4: tough guy to work for us.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Better better get back And by the way, we're documenting
- 51:24Speaker 3: a lot of this on social media. You can follow
- 51:26Speaker 3: the Union Mission. We did a little Facebook video out
- 51:28Speaker 3: there earlier. It's on the Union Mission Facebook page. All
- 51:31Speaker 3: of our stations have information on our social media pages
- 51:34Speaker 3: as well, So we guys, we appreciate you be here.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Troy McClung and Brian Roberts from Union Mission, thanks a lot, guys,
- 51:39Speaker 3: Get it now.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Get back to work. You'll do it all right.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Text says Haha, Shelley Capito taking questions on the show.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I mean, look, you know, Senator Capito is always welcome
- 51:50Speaker 3: on the show. She's been on the show many times.
- 51:53Speaker 3: She's been on the show many many times in the past.
- 51:55Speaker 3: So anytime she wants to come on here, she wants
- 51:57Speaker 3: to take questions or comments, she's.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Always more than welcome.
- 52:01Speaker 3: I do want to quickly remind you that we are
- 52:03Speaker 3: presenting the twenty thirty annual Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Sports
