- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime stories.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Tonight we're going to be headed back into the Dragon
- 0:17Speaker 1: Knights universe. I haven't done a Dragon Knight's episode in
- 0:21Speaker 1: a little while now because I've been looking for new
- 0:24Speaker 1: ideas to keep the series going. As I said last time,
- 0:28Speaker 1: I kind of want your ideas on where we go next,
- 0:31Speaker 1: like do we take on the fire Dragons or the
- 0:34Speaker 1: water dragons, or how exactly are we going to defeat
- 0:39Speaker 1: the Dragon King and his minions. And some of you
- 0:44Speaker 1: came through with some ideas. Although they were exactly what
- 0:47Speaker 1: I was looking for, I think they'd make a really
- 0:49Speaker 1: cool story, so let's check them out.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Hello Alma and miss Andrew and Gavin.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Here, we would like to suggest a fire like a
- 0:59Speaker 3: fire for the Dragon Knight series, where there you have
- 1:05Speaker 3: Ash and Cinder go back to where they found where
- 1:10Speaker 3: Ash found Cinder, and they have like a fire base
- 1:13Speaker 3: set up, and there's a fire general there and and
- 1:17Speaker 3: uh you can name him, but.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So uh he he's using the Sun's power to make
- 1:27Speaker 2: to make his fire dragons and his Fire Knight's more powerful.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Thanks Martin, please consider this idea.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I have in fact fully considered the idea, and I've
- 1:37Speaker 1: decided to sort of do it. Uh, tonight, we're not
- 1:40Speaker 1: going to get into the part with Ash and Cinder
- 1:42Speaker 1: yet returning to the fire base. That'll hopefully be in
- 1:45Speaker 1: the next episode, But in this one, I'm actually gonna
- 1:50Speaker 1: go into the background story of that fire general you
- 1:54Speaker 1: suggested and exactly how he uses the sun to power
- 1:59Speaker 1: up the dragons. So that's what tonight's episode is going
- 2:03Speaker 1: to focus on.
- 2:04Speaker 4: If you have.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Ideas for the Dragon Knights series, I'm really looking to
- 2:08Speaker 1: see where we go next. Obviously, the next episode will
- 2:11Speaker 1: be us kind of taking on the fire Dragon base
- 2:15Speaker 1: and hopefully defeating it and freeing the fire Dragons. But
- 2:21Speaker 1: after that, you know, what should we do next? What happens,
- 2:25Speaker 1: let me know on speak pipe or the Google form
- 2:29Speaker 1: or by email. All of those links are in the
- 2:32Speaker 1: show notes on pretty much anywhere you're listening. But if
- 2:36Speaker 1: you happen to be listening on you know, like just
- 2:39Speaker 1: a listening device that has no screen or something like
- 2:41Speaker 1: that another time, you can always head over to YouTube
- 2:44Speaker 1: or Apple or Spotify or whatever and check out the
- 2:48Speaker 1: show notes and get the links.
- 2:49Speaker 4: There.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But now it's that time again. Time to get as
- 2:55Speaker 1: comfy as you can in that bed, close your eyes
- 2:58Speaker 1: and imagine yourself doing what the kid in the story
- 3:03Speaker 1: does now. Before he was ever called general, and before
- 3:10Speaker 1: he stood beside the dragon king with a dragon under
- 3:14Speaker 1: his command, Drake, the future fire Dragon General, was just
- 3:21Speaker 1: a boy in the coal mines. The mines lay beneath
- 3:25Speaker 1: a chain of volcanoes that rumbled softly even on calm days.
- 3:30Speaker 1: The air smelled of ash and hot stone. Rivers of
- 3:35Speaker 1: hardened lava crisscrossed the land like black scars. But in
- 3:40Speaker 1: those days the mines weren't miserable. They were alive. Earth
- 3:46Speaker 1: dragon shaped the tunnels, pressing stone aside as if it
- 3:51Speaker 1: were soft clay. Fire dragons breathed carefully measured heat to
- 3:56Speaker 1: split the coal from the rock without collapsing the ceilings.
- 4:01Speaker 1: True dragon knights worked alongside them. Men women bonded to
- 4:08Speaker 1: dragons and shared power, their armor glowing with the same
- 4:13Speaker 1: energy as the dragons they rode. Drake remembered watching them.
- 4:19Speaker 1: When an earth night slammed a gauntleted fist into the wall,
- 4:23Speaker 1: stone obeyed. When a fire knight raised a hand heat
- 4:30Speaker 1: flowed through him. The miners still had to work hard.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Drake worked beside his parents from a young age, hauling
- 4:38Speaker 1: baskets of coal, coughing in the dust. But there was
- 4:42Speaker 1: at least a balance. The dragons helped, the knights respected
- 4:47Speaker 1: the miners, and the power and responsibility were shared. Drake, however,
- 4:53Speaker 1: was not good at mining. He swung the pick wrong,
- 4:58Speaker 1: he dropped loads. He tripped in tunnels, even though they
- 5:02Speaker 1: were perfectly shaped by dragons focused Drake, his father would say,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I am Drake would mutter, but he wasn't strong, he
- 5:13Speaker 1: wasn't skilled.
- 5:14Speaker 5: He was just there.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Then the dragon Thief came. He arrived with elemental dragons,
- 5:23Speaker 1: first dragons who commanded all elements. No one understood how
- 5:30Speaker 1: he'd taken them, but they flew in tight formation, silent
- 5:35Speaker 1: and precise. The attack was quick. Drake was in the
- 5:40Speaker 1: mines when it began. The ground shook violently, A roar
- 5:45Speaker 1: echoed down the tunnels of fire knights shout at orders.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Then something changed. The fire knight screamed. Drake looked up
- 5:56Speaker 1: just in time to see the dragon beside the knights
- 6:00Speaker 1: diff in mid air. Its eyes went empty, its wings froze,
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Knight clutched his head for a second, as if
- 6:09Speaker 1: something were hurting it, and then the dragon turned. Flames
- 6:15Speaker 1: blasted down the tunnel, not controlled or careful, just wild
- 6:20Speaker 1: and obedient to someone else. The dragon Thief spell had
- 6:27Speaker 1: taken over, and it moved like a wave. Earth dragons froze,
- 6:34Speaker 1: fire dragons faltered. One by one, they fell under his control.
- 6:41Speaker 1: The knights had shared power, the dragon Thief stole control.
- 6:48Speaker 1: By nightfall, everything had changed. The dragon Thief renamed himself
- 6:54Speaker 1: the Dragon King. He installed trusted allies as dragon Knights,
- 7:01Speaker 1: though they shared nothing with the dragons they commanded. They
- 7:05Speaker 1: simply controlled them. The mines became harsher. The dragons no
- 7:12Speaker 1: longer shaped tunnels to make work easier. They blasted through
- 7:17Speaker 1: rock brutally, and the miners hauled double loads. The fake
- 7:23Speaker 1: dragon knights didn't help, They just ordered everyone around. Drake
- 7:29Speaker 1: still worked in the mines. He was still bad at it,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and now there were no real nights to make the work. Later,
- 7:38Speaker 1: when the Dragon King announced recruitment for his army, Drake
- 7:42Speaker 1: listened carefully. The wage was better, the work was cleaner,
- 7:48Speaker 1: the opportunity was larger, so he signed up. He started
- 7:54Speaker 1: as a squire. That meant fetching gear, polishing armor, setting
- 7:59Speaker 1: up camp, cooking meals, running errands. He was assigned to
- 8:04Speaker 1: a fake dragon knight named Gary. Gary had once been
- 8:09Speaker 1: a merchant's son. Now he wore armor and rode a
- 8:13Speaker 1: fire dragon. He could command with a thought. But Gary
- 8:18Speaker 1: was not kind faster. He would snap when Drake carried supplies.
- 8:24Speaker 1: You missed a spot, he'd say, when Drake polished his armor.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He'll never command a dragon, he once laughed, You're barely
- 8:35Speaker 1: good enough to hold my reins. Drake swallowed his pride.
- 8:40Speaker 1: It was better than the mines, and he observed. He
- 8:45Speaker 1: noticed something. Whenever Gary's dragon rested near volcanic vents, it
- 8:52Speaker 1: grew slightly brighter. When the sun beat down hard on
- 8:56Speaker 1: open fields, its flames burned hotter. Drake said nothing, but
- 9:04Speaker 1: he noticed. Then came the first assault on the water
- 9:09Speaker 1: Dragon's stronghold. The stronghold sat atop cliffs near the ocean,
- 9:15Speaker 1: an icy fortress built of frozen waves and thick ice walls.
- 9:21Speaker 1: The dragon army marched or flew when confidence they left
- 9:27Speaker 1: in steam and panic. Water dragons fought fiercely. Jets of
- 9:33Speaker 1: freezing water blasted fire from the sky. Ice formed mid
- 9:38Speaker 1: air around charging dragons. Steam clouds blinded riders, and spikes
- 9:45Speaker 1: of ice flew and took some of them out. Drake
- 9:49Speaker 1: just waded back at the camp with some of the others,
- 9:53Speaker 1: taking care of the supplies or whatever. He waited for
- 9:57Speaker 1: Gary to return, but.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Did not.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Gary's dragon still did, but it flew back under the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Dragon King's command, silent and riderless. The Dragon King surveyed
- 10:13Speaker 1: the battered ranks, and his gaze landed on Drake. You there,
- 10:19Speaker 1: he said, Squire. Drake froze. Step forward.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Drake did.
- 10:28Speaker 1: The Dragon King placed a hand on Drake's forehead. The
- 10:32Speaker 1: spell struck like fire inside his skull. Drake gasped, and
- 10:37Speaker 1: suddenly he could feel the dragon, not its thoughts, not
- 10:42Speaker 1: its feelings, just the string. With a simple command, the
- 10:48Speaker 1: dragon moved toward him. Drake stared, I commanded, He whispered, yes,
- 10:58Speaker 1: said the Dragon King, and I need commanders. He turned
- 11:04Speaker 1: to the army.
- 11:05Speaker 4: We will defeat the water dragons, but I need your ideas,
- 11:11Speaker 4: bring me solutions. Those who succeed will be rewarded. We
- 11:17Speaker 4: can't have a repeat of that. Drake said nothing, but
- 11:23Speaker 4: he thought he thought of volcano vents. He thought of sunlight.
- 11:30Speaker 1: He thought of how the dragons won't The fire dragons anyways,
- 11:34Speaker 1: seemed to absorb heat. Over the next days, while others
- 11:39Speaker 1: locked wounds and grumbled about defeat, Drake experimented quietly. He
- 11:46Speaker 1: found an old pile of windows in a village the
- 11:49Speaker 1: army had taken over for the camp. Glass panes leaned
- 11:53Speaker 1: against a barn wall. Drake had once sat by his
- 11:57Speaker 1: sunny window as a boy in winter, feeling warmth soak
- 12:02Speaker 1: into his skin, he wondered. He ordered his dragon into
- 12:07Speaker 1: a rough structure that he built from wood and the
- 12:11Speaker 1: glass panes. The dragon stood inside on a bright day,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and sunlight poured through the glass. The air inside grew hotter,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and Drake watched carefully. The dragon's scales began to sort
- 12:28Speaker 1: of faintly glow. He shimmered around it. Its veins brightened
- 12:35Speaker 1: a darker red. When Drake ordered it out and commanded
- 12:40Speaker 1: a test blast, the fire roared almost twice as large.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Drake's heart pounded. He refined the structure, made it tighter, clearer, larger,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and the effect strengthened. Finally, he approached the dragon king's
- 12:59Speaker 1: temperary base, which was the mayor's house of the conquered
- 13:03Speaker 1: village they were currently using as a camp. The guards
- 13:08Speaker 1: blocked him. The king does not want to mate with Low.
- 13:12Speaker 1: The offices once sneered. Drake stood his ground. I have
- 13:19Speaker 1: a solution. The Dragon King's voice drifted from inside led
- 13:25Speaker 1: him in.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Drake entered.
- 13:28Speaker 1: He bowed stiffly, your majesty. I believe fired dragons grow
- 13:35Speaker 1: stronger when saturated with heat. I've built a structure that
- 13:39Speaker 1: traps sunlight and magnifies it. The Dragon King studied him,
- 13:47Speaker 1: show me, then went to the structure. The dragon stood
- 13:52Speaker 1: inside under the full sun, and its scales brightened. He
- 13:58Speaker 1: radiated outward. Drake mounted it and flew a short arc.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He commanded a blast toward a stone wall. The fire
- 14:08Speaker 1: exploded outward in a massive wave. The wall cracked and
- 14:13Speaker 1: even partially melted. The Dragon King smiled, brilliant, he said.
- 14:21Speaker 1: He turned to his officers, strip every window from this
- 14:26Speaker 1: village and built more. Within days, multiple glass structures stood
- 14:33Speaker 1: across the settlement. Fire dragons rotated through them. Even elemental
- 14:39Speaker 1: dragons took turns absorbing heat before battle. Then they flew again.
- 14:46Speaker 1: The second assault on the water Dragon's stronghold was different
- 14:53Speaker 1: fire dragons arrived, glowing. Their first blasts shattered out to
- 15:00Speaker 1: walls almost instantly. Water dragons countered with torrents of water,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but the superheated fire turned water to steam before it
- 15:11Speaker 1: could even freeze. Ice cracked, steam clouds blinded defenders. Elemental
- 15:19Speaker 1: dragons joined the charge. Fire amplified beyond normal limits, and
- 15:25Speaker 1: the Dragon King got close enough to use his own
- 15:29Speaker 1: spell once again, like a wave, the water dragons stiffened
- 15:36Speaker 1: in place and turned on their own nights. Within hours,
- 15:43Speaker 1: the fortress collapsed, The true dragon Knights were defeated, and
- 15:50Speaker 1: the whole place had been captured, stolen. When they returned victorious,
- 15:58Speaker 1: the dragon kings and Drake before the army. You brought
- 16:04Speaker 1: me victory, he declared.
- 16:07Speaker 4: From this day forward, you will be by fire night. General.
- 16:16Speaker 1: The army knelt. Immediately, Drake stood straighter than he ever
- 16:21Speaker 1: had in his life. For the first time, he was
- 16:25Speaker 1: not the boy who dropped coal. He was not the
- 16:29Speaker 1: squire fetching boots. He was General Drake. He commanded a
- 16:36Speaker 1: dragon with a simple thought. He commanded an army with
- 16:40Speaker 1: a word. But as the crowd cheered, Drake looked at
- 16:44Speaker 1: the dragon beside him. Its eyes were empty. It didn't
- 16:49Speaker 1: share power with him, It didn't choose him, It obeyed.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Drake pushed the thought aside. Power was power, after all,
- 16:59Speaker 1: and the kingdom was not yet fully conquered. So the
- 17:04Speaker 1: Dragon General went to work. They were turned to the
- 17:09Speaker 1: fire dragon base and began creating more and more panes
- 17:16Speaker 1: of glass. Using the heat from the dragons to melt
- 17:21Speaker 1: sand into glass, it became easy to create as much
- 17:26Speaker 1: glass as they could possibly want. In fact, they had
- 17:31Speaker 1: enough to make a structure for every single fire dragon.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Drake ordered all of them to sun in the base
- 17:42Speaker 1: each and every day, and each and every day the
- 17:47Speaker 1: dragons became more and more powerful. It was with this
- 17:53Speaker 1: power that the Dragon King was able to take over
- 17:58Speaker 1: the other groups of dragon wagons as well. With the
- 18:02Speaker 1: increased power of the fire dragons and a new horde
- 18:07Speaker 1: of water dragons at his command, they took over the
- 18:12Speaker 1: Nature dragons. The battle was short lived. Fire burned away
- 18:19Speaker 1: the forests, the trees, and the vines that the nature
- 18:23Speaker 1: dragons created, and the water dragons froze them in place.
- 18:29Speaker 1: The spell once again went throughout the Dragon kingdom and
- 18:34Speaker 1: turned nature dragons on their own riders. Together they defeated
- 18:42Speaker 1: the rest of the Earth dragons, the ones not captured
- 18:46Speaker 1: along with the fire. The intense heat helped melt stone
- 18:52Speaker 1: in place. The water blasted through, and the Earth dragons
- 18:57Speaker 1: were soon wrapped in vines from the new Horde of
- 19:01Speaker 1: Nature Dragons. Each battle became easier and easier. The Air
- 19:09Speaker 1: dragons were the most difficult of all. They were so
- 19:13Speaker 1: incredibly fast, after all, but they were wildly outnumbered and
- 19:21Speaker 1: completely surrounded, so it didn't take long for them to
- 19:26Speaker 1: fall either. And with each victory, Drake was rewarded more
- 19:33Speaker 1: and more. He was granted vast control over the lands
- 19:39Speaker 1: of the Fire Dragon area. He was given riches in
- 19:43Speaker 1: a giant mansion that looked out over his small little
- 19:48Speaker 1: kingdom of Fire, and under the guidance of the Dragon King,
- 19:54Speaker 1: he ruled. That is until the new Dragon Knights are
- 20:01Speaker 1: and that, my friends, is where you come in. You
- 20:08Speaker 1: find yourself sitting inside the new Dragon Knight base, underground,
- 20:15Speaker 1: lit up using fire magic from the Fire Dragons. You're
- 20:21Speaker 1: speaking with the others. I don't know what we should
- 20:26Speaker 1: do first, you say, we have to be systematic about it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: When the Dragon King took over, he took over the
- 20:35Speaker 1: kingdom one part at a time. He took the elemental
- 20:41Speaker 1: Night's first and then used them to take on the
- 20:45Speaker 1: fire dragons. Then he used the fire dragons to take
- 20:50Speaker 1: over the rest of the kingdom. Well, if he did
- 20:55Speaker 1: it that way, why can't we too, Ash suggest. It
- 21:01Speaker 1: seems like the fire dragons were the keystone, the ones
- 21:05Speaker 1: that allowed him to take over the rest of the kingdom.
- 21:09Speaker 1: So why don't we start there? But are we actually
- 21:15Speaker 1: powerful enough to take on all of the fire dragons?
- 21:20Speaker 1: You ask, Well, we're definitely powerful enough to start small.
- 21:29Speaker 1: When I grew up around the volcanoes, the fire dragons
- 21:35Speaker 1: had some special sorts of houses that helped them along
- 21:40Speaker 1: the way. On the outskirts of the fire area, where
- 21:45Speaker 1: the sun still shone, they built glass structures, structures that
- 21:53Speaker 1: allowed the fire dragons to sun and become more powerful.
- 22:00Speaker 1: If we sneak in and destroy those structures will greatly
- 22:06Speaker 1: weaken them. We can free as many dragons as we
- 22:11Speaker 1: can at that time, too, But I don't know if
- 22:15Speaker 1: we have enough to take them on yet. Well what
- 22:19Speaker 1: about the ones we've already freed, Ash suggested. They all
- 22:24Speaker 1: said they would come back when needed, But how do
- 22:30Speaker 1: we actually call on them? You ask, Oh, that is easy.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Ellie responds, what do you mean that's easy? Well, all
- 22:42Speaker 1: dragons are connected to each other. They pull you feel.
- 22:48Speaker 1: The one that led you all together is the same
- 22:51Speaker 1: sort of communication that we can use. If we collectively
- 22:57Speaker 1: reach out for help, dragons will respond. I say, we
- 23:04Speaker 1: move closer to the fire area, then we call for
- 23:09Speaker 1: the other dragons. When we know they're on the way.
- 23:15Speaker 1: We destroy the glass bases and then take on the
- 23:21Speaker 1: rest of the fire Dragon area. At this point, most
- 23:27Speaker 1: of you have learned how to use the dragon thief
- 23:31Speaker 1: spell and can reverse it thanks to August. Of course,
- 23:37Speaker 1: at least says August just waves a sort of you're
- 23:41Speaker 1: welcome like wave. If we are able to freeze some
- 23:46Speaker 1: of the dragons, I'm sure they will turn on those
- 23:50Speaker 1: who have captured them. Without the sunbeathing devices, they will
- 23:56Speaker 1: be weaker to start with. And if we can try
- 24:00Speaker 1: the free all of the dragons from the fire Dragon area,
- 24:05Speaker 1: we will have an army that can take on much
- 24:09Speaker 1: of the other areas as well. Well, it's a good idea,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you respond, I guess we start tomorrow with that. You
- 24:24Speaker 1: and the others put out the fire in the center
- 24:27Speaker 1: of your base, and you head back to your own
- 24:31Speaker 1: little sleeping quarters. Ellie curls up in the little area
- 24:36Speaker 1: outside yours, and you allow your head to hit the pillow.
- 24:43Speaker 1: You pull the soft covers up to your chin and
- 24:47Speaker 1: close your eyes. With each breath, your mind starts to
- 24:54Speaker 1: wander away. Your muscles soften and sink down deeper and deeper,
- 25:02Speaker 1: and slowly you begin to drift off to thoughts of
- 25:08Speaker 1: new dreams and new adventures to come.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Good night, everyone, name.
- 30:10Speaker 4: M M M Minion.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Kick M rich Na
