- 7:04[SPEAKER_08]: I got a lot of votes, didn't win, but did a nice job.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_08]: How are you doing, sir?
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: I'm good.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: How are you?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for having me back.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and we're glad to have you in on the holiday here.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_08]: Schools are closed, banks are closed.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_08]: A lot of things are closed, but a lot of things are opening, including the hotline here at 315, 755, 1240.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_08]: And, um,
- 7:22[SPEAKER_08]: see what's going on now you've had a chance to well you've got them all over a lot of different things we've got to go over the weather which is it seems like the last three days every person you talk to has a different forecast oh we're gonna get slammed oh we're not gonna I don't know what's gonna happen I don't claim to know I would say in the snowbell areas you might get some heavy snow I don't know about water to
- 7:49[SPEAKER_08]: You know how we'll know when you wake up the next morning.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, see, on, uh, it's the unpredictability of lake effects.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_03]: No, you know, that wind shifts in.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_08]: Well, that's the, you remember in the old days before we had all those predicting and stuff.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_08]: You know, you'd get up in the morning and there it was.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and you'd make a decision.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_08]: What you were going to do for the day?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: Made life harder, though.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_08]: So anyway, um,
- 8:14[SPEAKER_08]: Also, of course, there was a lot of football over the weekend, and I will say the last two weeks, a lot of good games, close games, overtime games, disappointing for some, obviously, not for all there were eight teams went into this weekend, four came out.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_08]: One of them was not the Buffalo Bills, unfortunately.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_08]: They lost to Denver, and then Denver tragically suffered the loss of its quarterback,
- 8:44[SPEAKER_08]: in the final minute or so of play and it fans didn't find out to laugh through the final take on the clock.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_08]: So you got a field band for that.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_08]: I know you don't.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm not celebrating an injury.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: I just found a timing very odd because the bills, my bills lost in such a sad fashion and then, you know, you blame it out in the refs.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm not one of those folks that cry like a girdle, I'm just yelling, aren't you?
- 9:11[SPEAKER_03]: No, but you know what, Josh Allen, phenomenal quarterback, phenomenal quarterback play.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_03]: Not a good game, you know, all the picks, all the fumbles.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what was up with that call at the end of the first half, but you know, he's lost in the postseason.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_03]: several years in a row in disappointing fashion.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like he gets blown out and you know losing the game.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_03]: It always comes down to the wire.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's unfortunate.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_08]: Whoever I saw, cry.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_08]: Come on.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_08]: Tough enough.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_03]: There's no crying at football.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, you don't cry.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, you're probably familiar with Jared's stadium.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_03]: I am.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_03]: He's the Broncos backup.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_08]: Yes, had you heard of him before yesterday?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I remember when Russell Wilson was a Bronco and they benched him and Sean Payton came in and there was a lot of bad blood.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_03]: See, my wife football kind of consumes my weekends between October and, well, February really.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, and of course, McDermott was fired at the coat.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that was big, I don't know how I feel about that one.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_08]: Somebody's got to walk the plank.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_08]: I'm big on it.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_03]: I personally think the GM should have been fired.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_08]: Oh well, nobody knows who that is.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: His draft picks are atrocious.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_08]: So anyway, Jarrett stood up, we'll have to face Frank May and the New England Patriots next week.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_08]: Now the conventional wisdom would be that losing your front line quarterback dooms you and a game like that.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_03]: Well that's yeah, that tends to be the conventional wisdom.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_08]: a lot of backup quarterbacks who came in and even won Super Bowl that Patriot's defense though is brutal yes that's going to be it's in Denver so that's a plus for them I don't know I guess if you couldn't you know I don't think it'll be a flashy game probably a lot of running calls got to have to rely on the Denver defense I just can't believe Drake may may make a Super Bowl before
- 11:22[SPEAKER_08]: there you go that's hard that's yeah well and then also on the other side of the equation yeah the sand loss of the bears i an overtime last night to uh... rams and at any other game the other day that was uh... do do do do forty nine or forty nine or is getting crushed by uh... c-hawks c-hawks forty one to six that was the only real pitiful game in last two weeks i was
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, all the rest of the games have been really good.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_08]: There's even the SD with the Patriots, the Texans were sort of in it.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_08]: pretty late into the game and, you know, then it faded away on him.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: But that says a lot, considering how many turnovers the Texans had.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, well, Texans will do that.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like we became a sports show.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, well, anyway, I will get to city stuff in a minute.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, so you're predicting then for next weekend that the Patriots would be the Broncos.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I am.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a Patriot Seahawk Super Bowl, guys.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_03]: Just telling you right now.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_08]: And that who wins that?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_03]: C.O.C.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_08]: Sorry, Patriots and that's played in Santa Clara, California, which is in your San Francisco.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_08]: So, and bad bunny is the half-time show.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_08]: You know, are you a bad bunny fan?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: I would call myself a fan.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: I don't necessarily understand the anger behind that whole thing.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know who he is.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: He's a... That's the problem.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he's a pop artist, but... Can't we have people on there that...
- 12:49[SPEAKER_08]: Well, my age, oh, who they are.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_08]: Well, very man.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, could you put very man?
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've had the same conversation with a lot of folks before it really just comes down to the targeted demographic.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_03]: I hate to sound all analytical, but I'm the targeted demographic 30s 40s.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_08]: I guess so.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_08]: I guess so.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_08]: Well, the rest of us are husbands now.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_08]: Um, what else we got going on?
- 13:12[SPEAKER_08]: We've got to talk about our good friend, Millie.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_08]: Smith, who were along with a bunch of other people, and I wish I knew the name, so it was a city police officer who did an excellent job, and one of the EMTs and billfoil along with a bunch of other people who were at Pete's restaurant or helped out.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_08]: Gentlemen was choking, Saturday evening, and Millie was sitting at a table nearby, who else would you want to the table nearby, Millie, right?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_08]: And
- 13:40[SPEAKER_08]: Anyway, she spotted that, went over, made the guy stand up, bent over, done doing the Heimlich thing, had 9-1-1 called, and some other people came over to help.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_08]: It wasn't working.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_08]: And eventually, EMT got there, and I don't know which police.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_08]: I wish I knew the officer's name.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_08]: I'd like to certainly send a shout out to her, because I heard she did a really good job.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_08]: But because the news media doesn't cover any.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_08]: You know, I think there's something like that's great human interest.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_08]: So anyway, the EMT had some kind of device you could look down to throw it, peek down the guy's throat, and then put this milliseconds of 18 inch long set of four steps.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_08]: Down the guy's throat, blanked out a large piece of meat.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's definitely commendable and, you know, it just goes to show the importance of CPR.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and then the guy wasn't breathing, erratic, uh, everything else, the, uh, officer attitude compressions for 15 minutes and they did come around.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_08]: So thank God, but, um, you know, it was milly that got it all rolling there.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_08]: So, and it's just, uh, people helping people and it can happen.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's great to see, yeah.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_08]: You got to be aware, aware.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_08]: And, uh, it's not when, I'm really
- 14:58[SPEAKER_08]: If all those people hadn't helped, it would have been a negative outcome as they say in the medical world.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, quite likely.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_08]: And that could for people's dinner.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_08]: So who knows to everybody involved and all of that stuff?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_08]: Just when people don't like Malaysian, that's something wonderful.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_08]: Well, not everybody doesn't.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: I like her.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: Well, every people have art, you know, entitled to their opinions.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I tend to shy away from that stuff.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I don't like it.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: Some criticisms valid, but your pictures on their stuff.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_03]: I know I saw that.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's good.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of people are probably like that guy.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_08]: Well, I don't think we get to this picture.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_08]: What do you do?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_08]: You're finished fourth, you know?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_08]: So you're finished for it.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_08]: We're happy with that.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_08]: I'm proud of that.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure all things considered You know, I I did a lot of reflection Self-reflections a big part of life in general a successful life anyone who strives for success Big thing was yeah, I mean obviously fourth place You know, you didn't win but considering where I started and what I did in the span of
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: 10 to 12 months.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_03]: I was pleased with the result, especially, you know, first time out the gate, met a lot of great people.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I learned a lot, you know, and I'm not going away.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_08]: Okay, that means you know, I need to say it, but the election's next year, right?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_08]: 27.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_08]: He's two council seats up at a mayor seat.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_08]: Conventional wisdom is that council and Kim bull runs for mayor.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_08]: A lot of people say that a current mayor is not going to run.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know if she doesn't confide in me.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_08]: She should, but she doesn't.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_08]: And then councilman's showing, you know, he's been saying he doesn't think he's going to run, but you never know until then.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_08]: So if Kim bull moves up runs for mayor, he'd have possibly two open council seats.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_08]: Good opportunity for you.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's a consideration.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_03]: I won't close the door, but you know, as anyone knows, if you intend to run in It's a bigger science.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_03]: I did save my science.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_08]: And we know what's wrong.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_03]: I took stock of them.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: I counted them.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_03]: I watched them.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_03]: They are safely tucked away.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_03]: So, signs are a big expense.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_03]: So, if you can save money, that was the biggest thing I learned was The amount of money that goes into even a city race.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: several thousand several.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and these days people don't donate to campaigns.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_08]: They don't think about it.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_08]: They just think, well, whatever.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_08]: And it's unfortunate.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_08]: So anyway, the two new council members have been in for two meetings.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_08]: What's your take on them so far?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and I know this is not something you like to hear,
- 17:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think what I will say is the makeup of the council has changed significantly I do think we have good people in there.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_03]: The biggest thing I have to celebrate with the race last November is you know you had a field of four strong candidates that each brought something great to the table.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah go ahead and see Cliff only gone.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: I personally yes.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_08]: What about Lisa
- 18:15[SPEAKER_08]: And again, you know, I appreciate the work they did after the election or the way they went after more ethics charges.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_08]: Was that appropriate?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: I personally don't think so.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's just, you know, kicking someone when they're down.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_08]: Hmm.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_08]: So we don't know what's going to happen with either of them.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_08]: Um, and, uh, man, I don't know where.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_08]: I don't see them.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_08]: Not that I expect the two new people to address issues.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_08]: a lot in her first two weeks, but I haven't seen a lot.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, I don't see anything being touched on anything you're doing with Hydro and anything to do with anything.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_03]: Not yet, but I mean, the term still early.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_08]: It's a bare rant, trying to bring up budget, getting a head start.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_08]: He was kind of giving a little bit of a pushback on that.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_03]: Which what I will say is I agree with his sentiment wholeheartedly.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the things that I learned was, and here's the other thing.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know, in the primary, I was very assertive.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I needed to make a name for myself.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: politics is tough because I feel like at times I was a little too abrasive no but then you you have to be though you know you're running for office to stand up for people there's a lot of things going wrong in the city think of the water situation over Christmas right it was possible timing you believe the explanation
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: Personally, I do not believe the explanation.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: And here's why.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm not criticizing anyone in general.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm crazy.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_03]: He is a nice guy.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm not criticizing anyone in general.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: My biggest problem with this was the explanation.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you know, we had 60 miles hour winds and a lot of snow melt and heavy rainfall.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: And it was, uh, that's what caused it.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: And my thought was, oh, you mean like winter in the north country and we rarely have these issues.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: So why was this one event back in December any different?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_08]: Well, yeah, and it was like, everybody's supposed to shut down and bring convenience and spare and all that.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_08]: You know, the rest of the people, I hate to bring it up again, but all the people who are making decisions on the topic aren't drinking the water anyway.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, and that's a valid point.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, that was something I ran on.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_08]: story about the new mayor and Syracuse and I forget her name and I apologize but they're short of walking into the mayor's office down in Syracuse old building you know where it is yeah and nice old door classic thing and I know to say it had a door now and it did have one of those little round keypad things for a lock or something and I thought well that's nice that the mayor's office has that but we had to have a
- 21:06[SPEAKER_08]: For one, I don't know.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_08]: They could have just put one of those little keypads on if they really were that worried about terrorists.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: Well, considering the budget situation too, there needs to be a heavy consideration for these decisions.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_03]: I know $10,000 doesn't sound like a lot, but to the taxpayer, that's a lot of money.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_08]: It isn't the context of everything else.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, you're talking about containing costs and all of that.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_03]: got to start somewhere and that's the big thing you know mister only used to use the word austerity and used to call several of us austerity candidates
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: austerity is not a bad thing when you are facing some tough decisions.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: Look at New York City.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you have a young charismatic mayor.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: I disagree on several policies, you know, the whole free stuff mantra.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: But I will give him the charismatic part.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: But New York City is facing a $12 billion deficit.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to affect us upstate.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_08]: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_08]: And they say,
- 22:09[SPEAKER_08]: white neighborhood's higher property taxes house for house yeah i heard that that and it's crazy considering it's martin Luther King Jr. day uh... i don't think that's a sentiment mlk would get behind no i don't need it i don't need it uh... i know who martin Luther King is because i'm of that age who probably due to uh... there's a fifth grader know who he is oh yeah
- 22:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of those basic, you know, innate knowledge things that they learn about him much younger than, you know, grade five.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_08]: All right.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_03]: Now I teach math and science so it doesn't really come up.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_08]: Well, there's a, um,
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that one's hard to say only because it's such a new holiday.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think they know what the holiday is.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: But, and it's the same thing really across the board.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, I have my issues with the education system overall.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: But the big thing is I don't think a lot of folks understand the historical significance of a lot of these holidays.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think about July 4th.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's America's 250th anniversary this year.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_03]: you know you have you ever seen those videos where someone walks around in interviews people and the responses are hilarious just the basic civic basic knowledge of civics in this country is a problem across the board.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_08]: Well I agree and the fact that a number of people who voted in that election you were just in.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah that's that's a setting.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_08]: Was it 3000?
- 23:53[SPEAKER_03]: It was around 3000.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, out of 12 registered.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: And it's such an easy thing to do and one thing I used to always talk about and I still stand by the statement, you know, we yell and argue about you know, political opinions at the state and national level and political parties.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: The real stuff that affects our day to day lives occurs in local elections.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know, whether you live in the village of, you know, LaFargeville or whether you live in the city of Watertown or as we saw in New York City.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: Local elections matter.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_03]: And we made it, you know, easier than ever, um, this past November to vote.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_08]: Well, you said it didn't like the, uh, GM at the Brendan Bean.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_08]: Brendan Bean, yeah.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_08]: Well, the game of promotion.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_08]: He's now president of football operations.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: Ah, same old bills.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_08]: What do they call that?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_03]: Consolation prize?
- 24:47[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I get it.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_08]: You're pointed to the highest level of your incompetence or something.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_08]: Um, anyway, we got a call coming in.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_08]: You got the, you got the headphone.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_08]: I do.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_07]: but after noon or on the air go ahead soon you're a couple things for you guess uh... mayor okay on the golf course i she's gonna jack the prices up uh... i don't think that's the way to go i think you gotta hire a full-time superintendent which are not going to do and uh... there was another issue i had a whole higher in the law firm the same law firm we've fired was that a year ago mayor couple years ago yeah
- 25:22[SPEAKER_07]: we're going back to the same people.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_07]: I don't understand anything.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_07]: I like Anthony so I voted for you and we've Anthony.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, thanks.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_03]: I appreciate that.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, thank you very much.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_08]: We didn't know the angry man.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_03]: I know a stamp of approval.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_08]: Two issues he rated.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_08]: I didn't see something about golf course prices, but that whole issue with the park.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_08]: They just can't grapple with that.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_08]: They
- 25:49[SPEAKER_08]: They still have it Balkanized, or you got them.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_08]: Of course, pool, pickleball court.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_08]: a zoo run by a bunch of people that nobody has any accountability over.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I watched that work session last week though on the park.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_03]: It was terrible.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, my big thing that I'd like to celebrate and I kind of changed my stance and I'm not embarrassed to admit this.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you need politicians in general who admit when they're wrong and you know, they listen to people and they take feedback in the consideration.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_03]: The zoo, that was a big matter of concern during the campaign.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm glad that the zoo ultimately is, they seem to be turning around.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_03]: They even ask the city for less money this year.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_03]: I still, I still stand by my statement, though, that I personally would have voted to lease out the golf course or it closed it entirely.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_03]: I would much rather support the city zoo and the pool at Thompson Park than the golf course.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_08]: Well, the pool, you're kind of oxygen to that's part of Parks and Rec.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_08]: But the question was, in the mayor raises
- 26:54[SPEAKER_08]: that she never went further with, and that was make the park into road, you know, somewhat synergism type thing.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_08]: Instead of having all these different groups, and you'd find answers that nobody understands, and you know, businesses up there that get to rent and restaurants for nothing, and then all of a sudden they take over this building from the zoo, and, oh, nice of you to take it over, can you put a new roof on it?
- 27:22[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, that's a good thing.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_08]: You know, that whole thing is I'd rather see a park super intended, but they're not going to do that.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_08]: They feel they got out of it a week ago, and we saw those issues, so I get about, you won't see those touch again.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_08]: And this thing about this New York Times article, generating some money.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Ah.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_08]: That's interesting.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_08]: Now, I think the mirror line that up, because she has some connections in the public relations world or something.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_08]: and that's great but that's not really a plan i mean you got some money no that's that's a short-term fix uh... it's a bandage solution yeah and then to say well we're not asking for as much money not right politics because calcimic it's it all they're asking for nice money uh... i don't buy so anyway good afternoon around here good afternoon Jeff thanks for having an antenna in there
- 28:19[SPEAKER_06]: Anthony, I heard that talking earlier about you, not believing the cause of the carpet water that we had in December.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_06]: And I was wondering if you thought we should create a distinguished blue ribbon panel to do a deep probe of what happened in December to our drinking water.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_06]: And I'll take your answer off the year.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_06]: Thanks for coming.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, it's definitely worth investigating, um, I'm not saying that there was anything malicious, and to say I don't buy the explanation, I trust the people who make these decisions I do, but it's worth it to always question.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_08]: No one will ever ask the question again.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that's my biggest problem is, you know, we are now several weeks removed and it seems to have gone by the wayside, you know, I'm just looking for answers as I think a lot of city residents are I would have called Gary Pilla the retired water superintendent who knows more about everything than anything and I just asked him the decision the problem it just seemed the explanation lacked Clarity it really did just like the water
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: yeah well and to make matters worse too I had the flu as did many others over Christmas break and you know having the boil water and you know take a hot shower when you have the flu and your water smells like bleach
- 29:46[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just, it's a problem.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of the most basic pillars that it's one of the most basic things that we look for is safe drinking water and our roads being plowed and police and fire protection.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: And it just seems like the ball has been dropped on basic infrastructure in the city.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_08]: Mm-hmm.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_08]: Well, let's see what else we're gonna do in a little commercial break here.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_08]: We got Anthony Velasquez here and be back with more in a moment.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_16]: A.M. 1240.

- 33:58[SPEAKER_08]: You remember that you don't remember that day?
- 33:59[SPEAKER_08]: I don't.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_08]: He was he was doing this station years and years and years ago.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, wow.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_08]: Nice guy, who'd a Florida?
- 34:07[SPEAKER_08]: Living the good life, but he used to be like a You used to be like a I wouldn't say he was a hard right we probably can but a
- 34:15[SPEAKER_08]: basic change for commerce for public and something happened in his life far left really yeah i don't know what happened to it he's living a good life uh... on the west of the coast of florida so good for him uh... let's see what else is going on uh... got to get our weather report from uh... superintendent of highways down in uh...
- 34:37[SPEAKER_08]: barns quarters they did have some snow overnight expect some more they get a steady amount every day oh absolutely they're out at like three a.m. and then they get done and they got to go out again and they get pulled off the road at nine a.m. at a rock is a government sleep and it's really something that's good for the economy as well down there well they had a big deal this weekend i mean they had a
- 35:02[SPEAKER_08]: pork roast pig roast something or others appreciation thing for all the landowners who supply all these trails and all that stuff three thousand sleds up on the hill tug i mean it's incredible i don't think people realize that how much money comes up here
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, the folks from the area, we realize.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, they're there, yeah.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_03]: But it's always great talking to folks not from the area affiliated with Ford drum, primarily.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_03]: And they don't realize that a lot of our small towns around here actually come alive during the winter.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you have the river front and you have Lake Ontario and Sackett's Harbor that does really well in the summer and then in the winter, the business tends to be in the interior and the tug Hill.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_08]: I've got to get to check news junk to you again just to see what's going on.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_08]: I don't want to talk about Greenland, that's so.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_08]: No.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_08]: So the kids at school didn't know where Greenland is.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, again, I teach math and science.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_03]: So we don't routinely talk about that.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, I'm sure I'm sure we'll all of them do.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_08]: But it's something that's in the news like that.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: Does that become a teachable moment or is it just repeating out of the book you know it doesn't it doesn't but here's the biggest problem with that too In this day and age and you've seen it.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_03]: I've heard all the conversations you have to be very careful Which subjects you even remotely talk about because you can be perceived as biased so
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: like I'll give you a good example when you know when I was in ninth grade in high school I had a teacher that was when Barack Obama was elected I had a teacher who put on the inauguration and it wasn't a political moment it was as you call it a teachable moment it was a cool thing it should be but here's the thing regardless of how you feel I'm not a trump voter we've talked about that but I'm not also not one of these folks who you know wakes up in the morning and hates the guy for
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: you know, I have my policy disagreements, but in this day and age, I don't think you could get away with putting on any inauguration without half the country hating you and thinking you were trying to quorum quote indoctrinate students, well, I happen to think you know, and it's a shame where we've gone in that age.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_08]: It should be on in school, and inauguration for president should be on in schools.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_08]: library of study, wherever it's an appropriate classroom.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_15]: I just wanted to see a huge account of what's happened.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_08]: There's Glenn Curry.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_08]: Glenn Curry.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_08]: Is that an endorsement from Glenn?
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a dentally it is.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_08]: That's pretty.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_08]: So I think I don't care if it's Obama or another.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: over the next president is no absolutely not but you see the point I'm trying to make it's unfortunate where you know a lot of people exist in these echo chambers now and these you know strict ideological beliefs that impact their day-to-day lives and we can't see things you know objectively anymore oh here's the story on channel seven water golf course he's could go up
- 38:20[SPEAKER_08]: You know, the media keeps repeating the mantra, it laught the course lost.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_08]: No.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_08]: It's part of a recreation department represents about 5% of the operation.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_08]: And everything could be said to lose.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_08]: But they always frame it that way.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_08]: And it means it's always a problematic issue to be.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: Well, losing more than $100,000 in a year, as a business venture that local governments involved in that is a problem.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's a problem.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_08]: But that's not a bit, not a business venture, isn't more like just a part of a recreational program that's offered, just like pools, just like pickleball accords, just like everything else.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: And pickleball courts don't lose that amount of money, though, and require that level of staffing.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, boy, you're anti-golf aren't you?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not anti-golf, I'm pro-business, and pro-common sense, and keep my taxes low.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_08]: since this issue manages to come up every year.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_08]: Possibly it could come up in 27.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_08]: If you were running, would you advocate, again, closing it?
- 39:27[SPEAKER_08]: Because it's not me.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's too soon let's see what the golf course does but I'm just I'm not a fan of local government being involved in something like running a golf course You know, where did this I've I've still think go you know, I haven't heard about that recently Where Mr. Johnson wanted to expand it to 18 holes and you know, he's a well he doesn't own those holes
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: he doesn't.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: The old there would need to be some sort of change and then, you know, remember, you still have that deed restriction.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I want to hear more about that.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: I would much rather a private, you know, individual with business sense run a business than local government.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_03]: Local government should be involved in infrastructure and police and fire protection and education and, you know, quality of life issues.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: Not recreation.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_08]: We want them there when you're
- 40:21[SPEAKER_08]: whatever.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_08]: Okay, well, anyway, 755, 1240, the phone number can like to give us a call.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_08]: Um, I mean, they should do with the house up in the park.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't Mister, doesn't the, um, who does anyone live in there right now?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_08]: They claim no, but I don't know.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know whether they're parties there.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_08]: his friends visit well i mean look at the alteri pool we are demolishing a pool and you know it cost money just leave the house there no i agree leave the house there like the park superintendent but uh and that's one option for the property that's the way it used to be and there was always somebody up there but that's back in the old days forty fifty ten times are different yeah now everything is like oh
- 41:15[SPEAKER_08]: uh... let's see uh... let's see get the locals will be ready to plow snow if it's knows uh... that's that's great to hear i'm glad you are state's tagling the big problems uh... yeah you know you know that's what that's like the high-wares superintendent barren scores it gets done because they know what to do they know when to go out and what to do and where to put it and all of that
- 41:46[SPEAKER_08]: That's, you don't need the hyperbole in all of that stuff.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's like when, you know, New York state issues, a state of emergency because we're expecting 18 inches of snow.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we know how to manage up here.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you get extra groceries.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_03]: You make sure your snowblower has gas in it.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: And you go on with your life.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_08]: Mm-hmm.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_08]: Exactly.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_08]: Exactly.

- 45:28[SPEAKER_16]: Around the corner.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_16]: Around the continent.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_16]: Around the clock.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_16]: This is the news in talk authority.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_16]: AM-1240.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_16]: W-18.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_16]: W-18.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_08]: W-18, yeah, we got to Anthony Velazquez here.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_08]: Last year's Council of Canada, Dayton.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_08]: You know, everybody runs on for the taxpayers.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_08]: They say, they don't think, remember, they're always on for the taxpayers.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_08]: And we got to cut the budget and we got to live with it our means.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_08]: There's a whole bunch of platitudes out there.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_08]: But you fully expect that when the budget is introduced, it'll be an 18 to 20% proposed increase this year.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, absolutely.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: And, firing significant changes, either significant cuts to expenses.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_03]: I had a time.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: Or significant increase in revenue coming from somewhere, and both of which are relatively unlikely.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_08]: But I mean, it was discussed last year.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_08]: And you said it.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_08]: I kind of came to that conclusion, too,
- 46:26[SPEAKER_08]: Maybe you should sit down and say, prepare a budget with a static tax increase.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_08]: And put a list next to it of the things you've caught out.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_08]: And if we want to put them back in, we will.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: I absolutely agree.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_08]: But they don't want to do that.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_08]: And Councilman Garerbrand touched on that.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_08]: It is first meeting.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_08]: And I think he got kind of like, you know, schools on that.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_08]: That's not how we do things here.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_08]: I guess they're going to have some kind of budget meeting in February.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_08]: But if they don't,
- 46:55[SPEAKER_08]: makes some actual cuts before the preparation of the thing.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_08]: Well, I disagree.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_08]: Result is productive.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I disagree with the whole.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: That's not the way we do things here.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you get elected to represent people.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes you get elected as a change candidate and to truly be in favor of change.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_03]: You throw out the status quo or you at least challenge the status quo.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: So you ask yourself and you ask, you know, the more senior members, the mayor, the more senior council members.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's not the way we do things.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, why not?
- 47:29[SPEAKER_03]: And why can't we do things differently this year?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_03]: Tough times call for tough decisions.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_08]: Mm-hmm.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_08]: Well, I'm sure our neighbor here would like to hear that.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_08]: Um, but, um, you just don't know.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_08]: You'd have, you'd have to write now, identify cuts and positions, and I don't think they're willing to do that.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_08]: They should be.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_08]: Because in order to make up that kind of a text,
- 47:55[SPEAKER_08]: 18% that's about 1.8 million for this gracious year to have to cut 15 jobs.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well from what I saw with the budget projections last year we're looking closer to 4 million for a deficit this year.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_08]: to do something.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_03]: And you do have as was brought up several times during the campaign, several legacy costs that are inherently difficult to cut, you know, certain benefits, and then, you have union negotiations, police and fire make up the biggest parts of the budget.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's that's political suicide, essentially, to even discuss public safety.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_03]: And in light of where the city is.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_08]: And yet, it's like my streets plow and my water main breaks out front,
- 48:40[SPEAKER_08]: sufficient people there I mean we're kind of bare bones in that category too at the moment.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_03]: We are but and this is more of a long-term solution the thing we really need to do too is we need to find ways to build up the economy and attract people to the area.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_03]: Watertown is a great community.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know you have these folks affiliate with Fort Drum.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe their service members.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know they got any more.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah well you got it more in the tech.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_03]: And some of them retired here.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: I know my family did.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_08]: Well, look at the stuff that comes off the tax rules.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_08]: The city just did it themselves over on a van duzy street.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_08]: They bought that building for, and they never told anybody about it.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_08]: And it was just like, over buying a building.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_08]: So that's several hundred thousand off the tax rules.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_08]: And obviously the old entire station.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, county bought that.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_08]: They'll do something nice with it.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_08]: So that you can kind of rationalize some of these things.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_08]: the motherhouse up there with the sisters that was off the tax rules and will remain that way I was about that.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, it's the only things that have been added.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_08]: Let's see, we've got a new coffee shop that's not open yet.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_03]: And that's exactly a problem.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_03]: You need to find ways to retain current residents, you know, to stay off the brain drain effect.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_03]: And what I mean by this also is you need to look at the makeup of a community.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_03]: you know water town or educational attainment levels are lower than a lot of other cities are median household income is relatively low this is a very impoverished community and there's a lot of social services which to a point is a good thing but it also does attract a certain crowd and it does create an
- 50:24[SPEAKER_03]: you know, additional strain on resources.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_03]: And without, you know, good middle class high paying jobs, it's very hard to balance, you know, what we want to do and, you know, keeping taxes low versus.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: you know residents leaving the area population declining and then uh... you look at new york state the budget has gone up some uh... i was reading the other day under uh... this governor uh... like forty percent since covid well the population's decline so why are we spending more money than ever before with a declining population well that i don't know but we take a call here but after dinner on the air yeah i like to say that the senior citizens can't afford this twenty percent
- 51:08[SPEAKER_04]: tax increase that you people are proposing something got to be done about it because you're just going to tax all the tenor scissors on this town and then you won't have any taxpayers thank you and goodbye all right thank you and for that said we'll take time out for messages the world can change in just seconds we'll bring you the latest in just minutes at the top of the hour on am twelve forty w a t n
- 51:34[SPEAKER_24]: Know what I like about Honda's?
- 51:36[SPEAKER_24]: They don't ask for much.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_24]: They just keep going.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_24]: Hey, it's Lee with Faith right now.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_24]: I've actually prepared a Honda's jam pack with brand new Honda's.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_24]: And these are the kind of vehicles that would come part of the family.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_24]: Sevex in accord that somehow outlast her phones.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_24]: CRVs and pilots that see more road trips than your suitcase, Honda's are built to handle school runs, workdays, weekends, and everything in between.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_24]: Oil changes, snowstorms, long commutes, a Honda just shrugs and says, let's go.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_24]: And when it comes to dependability, that's why people keep coming back.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_24]: Great fuel economy, proving safety, and engineering this design to last.

- 52:38[SPEAKER_10]: We spent decades in the corporate world, hitting goals, having great days, and then it was always on to the next one.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_10]: For years I kept telling Chris, we should do this on our own.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_09]: And that's exactly why we chose the name celebration.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_10]: Because when someone walks through our doors, they're celebrating something.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_10]: And being trusted with those moments is incredibly humbling.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_09]: We wanted to build a store where people feel comfortable walking and jewelry shopping shouldn't feel overwhelming.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_09]: No matter your budget, everyone deserves to feel taken care of.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_10]: You'll see us in ballcaps and jeans, not because we don't care, but because we've done the corporate suits, what matters is our knowledge, our character, and how we treat everyone who walks through our doors.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_10]: When you walk into celebrations, we want it to feel like you're walking into our home.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_10]: That's what being locally owned means to us.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_10]: We're invested in this community.

- 54:31[SPEAKER_23]: Safe, anxiety-free, dental care.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_16]: The North Country spells news, M-1240, W-A-T-N, Watertown, depend on it.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_08]: Hey, I'm 1240, W-H-E-N, with Anthony Pulaske's here last year's City Council candidate, and, um, wateredown school teacher, fifth grade, fifth grade?
- 54:53[SPEAKER_08]: Yes.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_08]: And you said math and science?
- 54:56[SPEAKER_08]: Uh, that's correct.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_08]: What kind of math?
- 55:00[SPEAKER_08]: Is it the same math I was taught?
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure it's the same math, but the teaching methods I'm sure have changed over time.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_08]: You don't have flashcards.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: We use flashcards.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_08]: You have to memorize some multiplication tables.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_03]: In my classroom, yes.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_08]: OK.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: Very important skill.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_08]: That's good.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_08]: Well, what about, I know.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_08]: Science, we're kind of science.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_03]: Matter, space, you know, your traditional beginner level science that sets you up for, you know, success in middle school and high school and beyond.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_08]: Space.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_08]: We have a listener who doesn't believe it.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I know.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_03]: That's his prerogative.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_08]: He's... Now, what about this Artemis thing coming up?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_08]: How?
- 55:49[SPEAKER_08]: Are you following that?
- 55:49[SPEAKER_08]: I'm not.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_08]: That's about space.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_03]: me I follow it.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_03]: I have more of a sports and weather and politics guy.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well while I mean in class you're teaching science.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean right now I'm doing matter though.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_03]: What's matter?
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: You know solid liquid gas characteristics properties of matter etc.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_08]: Well I don't know when I was a kid the space program
- 56:20[SPEAKER_03]: John Glenn, all of that, I don't know, we were all interested, we all had helmets, we had everything Yeah, but unfortunately, it seems that in society today, there's kind of a, I don't want to make generalizations It just, I was having this conversation with someone the other day It just seems like there's not as much interest in academics and the sciences and STEM as there used to be Well, that's not a good thing It's not a good thing What is their interest?
- 56:50[SPEAKER_03]: tiktok well that's yeah that's part of it it's also media has has been terrible for society overall I was a phone band to it oh I I agree with it I mean has it worked out or I think so um I as well as many other educators I'm sure were concerned about you know parent reactions but it's gone very smoothly you know it has created a lot more of a disruptive
- 57:19[SPEAKER_08]: So in the lunch room, kids talk to each other now and stuff like that.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, they never had phones in the lunch room anyway.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_03]: It was really to keep the phones locked up to prevent them from, you know, keeping them in desks and sending messages and, you know, I understand the need of parents reaching their students, but you should not be able to just shoot your kid a message in the middle of class when they're supposed to be, you know, engaged and involved in instruction.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_08]: You know, if my parents needed to get a hold of me, they call the office and the office would relay the message exactly.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_03]: Same when I was growing up.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I'm at that age now where one of my new favorite lines is back in my day.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I was watching fast times at Richmont High.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_08]: It was on the morning or something.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_08]: And the scene was Sean Penn and he ordered a pizza delivery to class.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_08]: and Ray Walston was the teacher.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_08]: And I thought it was great seed.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_08]: And he said, it's very nice of you to order that.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_08]: Let's share it with everybody.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_08]: Just bring in that for the class.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_08]: If a student ordered a pizza delivered to class, would that be a problem?
- 58:35[SPEAKER_03]: That would be a problem because my first question would be, how did you order a pizza?
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: Where's your phone?
- 58:41[SPEAKER_03]: But I will tell you, I have ordered DoorDash for lunch
- 58:46[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, yeah, but I mean, you're in teaching.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that would be a problem.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_03]: I would not even be mad.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_03]: I would be, that would be a quite surprised.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_08]: Would that get your trip to the office, or just?
- 59:01[SPEAKER_03]: It would get you a very stern talking to.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_03]: I wouldn't have sent someone to the office for that.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_08]: OK. All right.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_08]: Now, in Christmas story, remember, teacher looked out the window and the kid's tongue was on the flag?
- 59:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_08]: Has that ever happened?
- 59:14[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_08]: OK.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_08]: I didn't know if all these things even occurred in school anymore.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_08]: It's been so long since I was there.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: No, but we do go sledding and you know, we take the time to enjoy the weather outside.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're locals, we won't be deterred by the weather.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_03]: You do have to take into account the windshield, but other than that, you know, like I said earlier, life goes on.
