Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: There are eighty four days left until the twenty twenty
- 0:09Speaker 1: six minus terms elections. I am still Crystal Heat is
- 0:12Speaker 1: still Chuck Todd, Chuck, let's start on this.
- 0:14Speaker 2: And I didn't breathe for nine people where they are, man,
- 0:16Speaker 2: Welcome to Super Tuesday. We did it, you know, Tuesday,
- 0:20Speaker 2: exactly Tuesday. And you know, I'm going to steal a
- 0:24Speaker 2: slogan that I created for other entities that I don't
- 0:27Speaker 2: think they use the slogan, so it's mine, which is
- 0:29Speaker 2: if it's Tuesday, somebody's voting somewhere. I love it. It's
- 0:32Speaker 2: my favorite pretty much every Tuesday. That is true this Tuesday.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We have a lot of somewhere anyway.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Yes, So we have a bunch of states and we
- 0:40Speaker 1: will we'll give you a little preview Tuesday night, Chuck,
- 0:45Speaker 1: myself and the decision deskk Q people, just like on
- 0:48Speaker 1: every big primary night.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We will be there.
- 0:50Speaker 1: We've got the two biggest, maybe three biggest Wisconsin gubernatorial primaries.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We've got the Minnesota at Senate primary on the Democratic
- 0:58Speaker 1: side and the South Carolina special Republican primary where Lindsay Delate,
- 1:03Speaker 1: Lindsay Graham's sister who's the appointed senator who is Donald trump'sendorsement.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So there's more. Yeah, I mean there's a completion in
- 1:11Speaker 2: Connecticut primary, Connecticut US primary where Jeff Harrison is a
- 1:14Speaker 2: long time sitting incumbent. Generation that generational fight. So we
- 1:20Speaker 2: will be.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Live on YouTube, on our Twitter feeds, on sub stacks.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You can find it pretty much anywhere. But yes, you
- 1:26Speaker 1: were watching Super Tuesday, so chuck eighty four days and
- 1:29Speaker 1: I didn't prep you for this, but I wanted to
- 1:31Speaker 1: get because I wanted to get your Yeah, I wanted
- 1:33Speaker 1: to get your kind of first reaction. What is your
- 1:39Speaker 1: I hate the word hottest take because it's pejordaive. It's
- 1:42Speaker 1: seen as pejortaive. I don't view it that way. But
- 1:44Speaker 1: what is your, if not hottest take? What's the thing
- 1:47Speaker 1: that not everyone is saying that you think is gonna
- 1:52Speaker 1: be true in twelve weeks?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Like what what do you what? What's that?
- 1:55Speaker 1: What's out there? And I know I'm putting you on
- 1:57Speaker 1: the spot if that's why you got a big brain?
- 1:59Speaker 2: No, but that's and it's one of those like, you know,
- 2:03Speaker 2: we have a bad habit of I thought everybody already
- 2:05Speaker 2: knew that already, right, and people what you know, and
- 2:09Speaker 2: that happens quite a bit. Look, I have found the
- 2:12Speaker 2: summer to be you know, it's interesting the Democrats haven't
- 2:16Speaker 2: had a good summer, but the Republicans have had a
- 2:20Speaker 2: worse summer. Agreed. And you know, instead of saying when
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm pretty you know, the only reason I'm not saying
- 2:30Speaker 2: that this is going to be a pasting, okay, is
- 2:35Speaker 2: because of that Democratic brand problem. Right. It's like everything
- 2:40Speaker 2: if you just if you just took away the sort
- 2:44Speaker 2: of the the the intra party dynamics that are truly
- 2:48Speaker 2: sort of you know, having are taking up probably too
- 2:53Speaker 2: much attention. Certainly if you're a game Jeffreys and Chuck Schumer,
- 2:57Speaker 2: you think it's having taking up too much engine. But
- 3:01Speaker 2: you know, if not for that, you'd be sitting here.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I mean, Donald Trump is making this harder every day
- 3:09Speaker 2: on his party, right, And the Senate was a debacle.
- 3:14Speaker 2: This session of Congress was a debacle. They've done nothing
- 3:17Speaker 2: to make the case for reelection. They themselves kind of
- 3:21Speaker 2: know it. So it's one of those things when you
- 3:25Speaker 2: look at this at a macro level, you're like, this
- 3:27Speaker 2: is not going to be close. This is more likely
- 3:30Speaker 2: to be thirty house seats six or seven Senate seats,
- 3:34Speaker 2: and then you start to look at it individually, you're like, wow,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know, totally, they got some crappy candidates over here.
- 3:42Speaker 2: This is a mess over here. Maybe they remapped it
- 3:45Speaker 2: just right there, like it's it's like every intangible favors
- 3:50Speaker 2: Republicans and all of the macro trends favor of the Democrats. Right,
- 3:54Speaker 2: that's little And so I know what the what history
- 3:59Speaker 2: tells you is that the small stuff doesn't matter in waveyears, right,
- 4:02Speaker 2: that the small little things we're.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Talking about, it literally gets overwhelmed by the.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Way right it is. Do I think a'bdu al lsied
- 4:10Speaker 2: is going to perform two to four points worse than
- 4:12Speaker 2: Haley Stevens would I do? Will it matter? I don't know,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I don't I am leaning towards it may not matter, right,
- 4:21Speaker 2: Like you know, I think this Minnesota primary in theory
- 4:25Speaker 2: is a big deal. I'm not sure in this political
- 4:28Speaker 2: environment it matters who the Democratic nominee is. I think
- 4:31Speaker 2: either one of them wins in this environment. Now, if
- 4:35Speaker 2: this had been twenty twenty two, you'd be like, ooh,
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know, Peggy Flanagan may be more vulnerable than an
- 4:41Speaker 2: age Craig. I don't think there's really a distinction eyes cycle.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's because of just the macro trends, right, the macro.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The macro trends here are so bad. There's a combination
- 4:53Speaker 2: of Mega's going to sit home, right, there's the Independence
- 4:57Speaker 2: are just disgusted by what they see from Trump and
- 5:01Speaker 2: the right. The problem is what is what is the
- 5:05Speaker 2: rationale for the Democrats to have power? And I don't
- 5:09Speaker 2: think they've given a great rationale to get power. So
- 5:11Speaker 2: yet I.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Wrote a thing on substack yesterday. You know Hillary Clinton.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I thought this was fascinating. She occasionally kind of pops
- 5:18Speaker 1: up Hillary Clinton. She doesn't do a ton, but she
- 5:21Speaker 1: was on Karas Swisher and Scott Galloway's podcast and she
- 5:24Speaker 1: said Kara Swisher asked her about the socialism communism attack,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and she said, I think it could be very effective
- 5:30Speaker 1: against Democrats. So I just went digging and I just
- 5:33Speaker 1: want to pull on this string. This is let me
- 5:35Speaker 1: see if I can share this. I'm pretty sure I can.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I want to make sure you can see this in
- 5:39Speaker 1: addition to everybody, but this is fifty plus one, which
- 5:41Speaker 1: is a substack that does polling aggregation. Democratic Party favorables.
- 5:47Speaker 1: This is to your point that I just want to
- 5:48Speaker 1: pull on this a little bit. Like we know Donald
- 5:52Speaker 1: Trump is unpopular, the Republican Party is unpopular, and yet
- 5:55Speaker 1: look at this, Chuck, it's thirty eight percent fifty four.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That's what it was in eighteen. Tell me, I'm pretty
- 6:03Speaker 2: sure it was closer to one to one. Right, I
- 6:07Speaker 2: know it water by sixteen. Correct. The biggest difference between
- 6:12Speaker 2: this midterm and the eighteen midterm is the perception of
- 6:15Speaker 2: the Democratic Party. Now here's what you know what's funny,
- 6:19Speaker 2: and we watched this in wave years, is that the
- 6:22Speaker 2: party that's playing defense will be convinced that there is
- 6:27Speaker 2: a there is a power to it to survive. Right.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It may be the election denihialism, Right is what are dobbs,
- 6:33Speaker 2: which is what Democrats counted on in twenty two. And
- 6:36Speaker 2: there were a few examples where yeah, it's because of
- 6:39Speaker 2: dobbs that they survived that one, or it's because of
- 6:43Speaker 2: it's because of a bad Republican nominee that they were
- 6:46Speaker 2: able to survive that one. I have a feeling that
- 6:52Speaker 2: you're going to see a lot of Republicans run on
- 6:54Speaker 2: socialism and communism, right. I think that's right, and it
- 6:59Speaker 2: all depends on it will succeed somewhere. It's not going
- 7:02Speaker 2: to succeed in most places, SOBA does succeed in a
- 7:05Speaker 2: place where there's already a candidate that there's questions about,
- 7:11Speaker 2: right like, So, I mean this is what makes both
- 7:15Speaker 2: potentially Francesca hang and Wisconsin and Abdul lsied in Wisconsin.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Those are both winnable races by being as far to
- 7:25Speaker 2: the left as they are, but they're also losable races total,
- 7:28Speaker 2: which in a neutral environment, you know with neutral candidates
- 7:33Speaker 2: that Democrats generically should win by five or six. So
- 7:38Speaker 2: you know, it's all about where does it happen. Where
- 7:40Speaker 2: does the socialism slash communism messaging work? If it works
- 7:45Speaker 2: in a Wisconsin or Michigan, the whole National Party may
- 7:47Speaker 2: have a freak out. If it works, say it's what
- 7:52Speaker 2: got Paxston over the finish line against Talariico, but Democrats
- 7:55Speaker 2: held serve in Wisconsin and Michigan. I don't know if
- 7:58Speaker 2: it's worth freaking out about, right like, I think it
- 8:01Speaker 2: depends on I agree with Clinton in that it could
- 8:04Speaker 2: be a problem, And it's the question is does it
- 8:08Speaker 2: where does it cost them a winnable race, and is
- 8:12Speaker 2: that a place that Democrats have to be winning in
- 8:15Speaker 2: twenty eight or is it a luxury place Texas? Whatever
- 8:18Speaker 2: you want to think is a luxury, it's a luxury.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I go back and forth because I do think there's
- 8:23Speaker 1: an element of this where it's like, you know, any
- 8:26Speaker 1: port in a storm. To your point, it's like, yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 1: if you're a Republican, you're like, okay, well, gas prices
- 8:31Speaker 1: are too high. People don't like the economy, people don't
- 8:34Speaker 1: like Trump, people don't like us.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It's like, ah, communism.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But I wanted to ask you this because I wasn't
- 8:41Speaker 1: sure where I landed on this. So right around kind
- 8:43Speaker 1: of like Trump is during once Kamala becomes a nominie
- 8:47Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, he's throwing a bunch of stuff
- 8:49Speaker 1: at her, you know, like trying to see what works right,
- 8:51Speaker 1: which is what he does, and he he latches on
- 8:53Speaker 1: and kind of like right around Labor Day with the
- 8:55Speaker 1: like comrade Kamala right, and he runs with that.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Now that's I guess. Is it's the alliteration that Suckerman
- 9:03Speaker 2: makes sometimes, Yes, it does. Well, this was my question.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Is he sticks with it? It's not the only thing
- 9:10Speaker 2: he sticked.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know, obviously they talk about trans stuff and her
- 9:13Speaker 1: prison you know, give prisoners gender assignment surgery, blah blah
- 9:16Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But I do think if somebody asked
- 9:20Speaker 1: me today, do you think that stuff the comrade Kamala
- 9:24Speaker 1: she's a communist, she's from California and blah blah blah.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Did that help Trump? I think I would say yes. Now,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I don't know if it won him the election, but
- 9:31Speaker 1: I think it helped define her as kind of like
- 9:34Speaker 1: other It.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Was more of a choice. It was more a choice
- 9:37Speaker 2: between him and her, And.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So that's what I wonder is like it did kind
- 9:41Speaker 1: of work there. I think Hillary Clinton is pretty smart politically,
- 9:45Speaker 1: so I take her warning. And so I don't know.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I literally, I literally don't know. The answer is like,
- 9:51Speaker 1: could it be a thing that could work in Pennsylvania
- 9:57Speaker 1: swing district, Florida swing district, California? No, you think not.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I think I think you have to.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Have a candidate who already has branding issues for it
- 10:07Speaker 2: to work, Okay, right, like you already. It has to
- 10:10Speaker 2: be both. I think, you know, the attack has to
- 10:13Speaker 2: feel believable, Like why did it work with her? Well, huh,
- 10:17Speaker 2: she did grow up in Berkeley and both of her
- 10:19Speaker 2: parents were professors, and like there was this it was
- 10:23Speaker 2: it was painting a picture that Hey, what they really
- 10:27Speaker 2: were trying to tell you is that she's one of
- 10:28Speaker 2: these elite San Francisco liberals, Bay Area liberals. You know
- 10:31Speaker 2: who they are, Berkeley, you know who those people are, right.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Right, she's so California.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Right. Can you sit there and say, ah, that cost
- 10:40Speaker 2: her that congressional r. It's hard, obviously it's hard, but
- 10:44Speaker 2: it does. Look we all know this. It only works
- 10:47Speaker 2: if there's already a seed that has been successfully planted.
- 10:52Speaker 2: That's why abdul Lsied has more work to do to
- 10:56Speaker 2: disapprove that he's somehow a closet una stir whatever it
- 11:01Speaker 2: is that you know, I happen to think. For instance,
- 11:03Speaker 2: I got a question in my mail bag that's in
- 11:06Speaker 2: the episode now about there's going to be a lot
- 11:10Speaker 2: of Islamophobia in this Michigan primary. There is. It's on
- 11:14Speaker 2: a level, you know, it's funny. It's like every time
- 11:17Speaker 2: you think, boy, you know this is going to be bad,
- 11:19Speaker 2: it's like, oh wow, it's again to be even worse
- 11:20Speaker 2: than I thought.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Like the using of his full name is clearly it's
- 11:25Speaker 1: it's not even a dog whistle.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's like we all can see it. Just
- 11:28Speaker 2: wait till nine to eleven, right, twenty fifth anniversary, Oh
- 11:31Speaker 2: my god, you know now, I actually think there's already
- 11:35Speaker 2: made retort if they go down that road, which is, oh,
- 11:39Speaker 2: on the twenty fifth anniversary, you're giving of a terrorist
- 11:44Speaker 2: attack that was mostly by Saudi's. You're handing the Saudis
- 11:47Speaker 2: a nuclear program Erald Trump. So it's sort of like,
- 11:52Speaker 2: who's who's on the side of the terrorist here? I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 2: if you want to totally be irresponsible and play that
- 11:58Speaker 2: over the time, right, you want to be over You're
- 12:00Speaker 2: they're going to be over top of you. You could
- 12:02Speaker 2: go right back at them. I mean I do think here, like,
- 12:05Speaker 2: wait a minute, why are you handing the Saudis again?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Who who was on those planes? Right? We've always had
- 12:11Speaker 2: that a little bit of disconnect there. I wonder if
- 12:16Speaker 2: he's got to do what Kennedy did with the Catholic issue,
- 12:20Speaker 2: what Totalma did with race, does a Total si Ed
- 12:23Speaker 2: needed doing as a Muslim speech? And it's so interesting
- 12:27Speaker 2: you mentioned that. I was thinking this last week, it's
- 12:30Speaker 2: not fair. I'm going to sit here right now. It
- 12:32Speaker 2: isn't fair that are religious. But then again, we've been
- 12:36Speaker 2: through this, and yeah, you got to reassure the public.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I know that it may feel demeaning, it may even
- 12:46Speaker 2: feel but I actually think it's an opportunity. He's an
- 12:49Speaker 2: attention guy, and I mean that in the in a meaning,
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know, because here the generic political consultant would tell
- 12:57Speaker 2: him just stay on target, just focus on a dability,
- 13:00Speaker 2: don't don't take the bait, don't take the bait. Yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think this is going to be bigger than that.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And instead, look, you already have a seed that was
- 13:11Speaker 2: planted about Israel with some voters, So you need to
- 13:15Speaker 2: draw the bright line that this is about the Israeli government. Now,
- 13:19Speaker 2: maybe it's not. Maybe he doesn't want to do this,
- 13:21Speaker 2: And I don't know the answer to this, but I
- 13:24Speaker 2: know that if I think it would help a lot
- 13:27Speaker 2: of future Muslim American candidates if if you know, he
- 13:32Speaker 2: sort of took this on, Like what Nancy May said
- 13:35Speaker 2: is just obviously it's ignorance about our own founding, Like
- 13:41Speaker 2: the country was founded on religious liberty. Why more than
- 13:45Speaker 2: anything else, why did folks escape the UK? Because they
- 13:48Speaker 2: couldn't practice their faith right, and so they come here
- 13:52Speaker 2: to do it. And the idea that we're going to
- 13:53Speaker 2: create a religious test of all countries, of all republics,
- 13:58Speaker 2: of all constantus, like we were the one to embrace
- 14:03Speaker 2: pluralism and religious freedom. And it's an opportunity to speak
- 14:11Speaker 2: to independent voters who may be not comfortable with you ideologically,
- 14:15Speaker 2: but you don't want him uncomfortable with you as an American.
- 14:19Speaker 2: And I just wonder if I think he's capable of
- 14:24Speaker 2: pulling this off. It is I'm not going to sit
- 14:27Speaker 2: here and say it doesn't. It isn't without risk. Well
- 14:30Speaker 2: what do you think?
- 14:31Speaker 1: I think there's risk, But I will tell you. When
- 14:34Speaker 1: we were doing our live stream last week on Michigan
- 14:39Speaker 1: and he was winning, Abdell Side was winning, but not
- 14:43Speaker 1: nearly by the margin that polling suggestion, I thought to myself,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I wonder because I remember where we both remember this.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I mean, if you go back to Obama and Reverend Right,
- 14:53Speaker 1: which occasion the big race speech at Obama gave when
- 14:57Speaker 1: he was first running.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Like Barack Obama.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't think Barack Obama's I don't want to get
- 15:02Speaker 1: too much into his head, but I don't think he's
- 15:03Speaker 1: like a huge at least back then it was like
- 15:05Speaker 1: a hugely dedicated religious follower of Jeremiah Wright. I think
- 15:09Speaker 1: somewhere somewhere somebody said, hey, man, like, if you want
- 15:12Speaker 1: to get in the politics.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Probably a church in Chicago's hide car.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I mean, and I and my sense of it was
- 15:19Speaker 1: he was like, God damn it, like I only did
- 15:22Speaker 1: this to check a box, not advanced for it, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: rather than could of dwell on that or ignore it,
- 15:29Speaker 1: he saw the opportunity to give that speech.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Now Obama is Obama, right.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I mean, that's just like saying, well, Lebron when they
- 15:36Speaker 1: were down twenty he led the cast, well he's Lebron.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You know, most people who try to lead their team
- 15:40Speaker 1: back after giving a big speech loose. I do think
- 15:42Speaker 1: Elsaiad is pretty gifted as a communicator. I I'm with you.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I thought that last week. I wonder if at some
- 15:52Speaker 1: come here in the next couple of weeks, because Mike Rogers,
- 15:56Speaker 1: his Republican opponent, the day after August fifth, was on
- 15:59Speaker 1: TV saying, you know, I don't know, do we want
- 16:01Speaker 1: a guy who said that America deserved nine to eleven
- 16:03Speaker 1: now again Abdul Alsaida did not say America deserved nine eleven.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Hassan Piker said that who was in the state campaigning
- 16:11Speaker 1: form Like my point is is like it's it's early August,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and that's where we are. This is your thing. It's
- 16:17Speaker 1: truly August, and we're doing a guest ab dual Rockman
- 16:20Speaker 1: l you know we're doing all that.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It's one of those things. Look, the upside of doing
- 16:24Speaker 2: something like this is that you you suddenly put the
- 16:28Speaker 2: onus on your opponent. Okay, how how how how hateful
- 16:31Speaker 2: to you? Are you going to go? Where are you
- 16:33Speaker 2: going with this?
- 16:33Speaker 1: What is you know, response to a great speech about
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm a Muslim, but I felt welcome the United States
- 16:39Speaker 1: for bab b a bah reasons or whatever.
- 16:41Speaker 2: By the way, this is the same party whose voters
- 16:45Speaker 2: rejected somebody simply because it looks like his name sounded
- 16:50Speaker 2: like it might be Islamic.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I a candidate that Donald Trump endorsed in Michigan's eighth district,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and they voted for someone named Tom Smith, which is
- 16:59Speaker 1: the whitest Mike.
- 17:00Speaker 2: And I know that I would wrap my arms around
- 17:03Speaker 2: that if I were a hundred or of science shoes,
- 17:05Speaker 2: right you'd be like, Look, the fact of the matter
- 17:08Speaker 2: is if you're a Muslim American, some people look at
- 17:11Speaker 2: you automatically like you're not American for some reason, right, like,
- 17:14Speaker 2: and you know, let me tell you. And it's a
- 17:16Speaker 2: little bit of a history lesson. It's not fair that
- 17:19Speaker 2: he has to give it and some of us are
- 17:21Speaker 2: giving it. But there's you know, we've had Muslims in
- 17:23Speaker 2: this country since the founding, Like just like we've had
- 17:26Speaker 2: Jews in this country since the founding and Catholics in
- 17:28Speaker 2: this country since the founding. And you know, there were
- 17:31Speaker 2: and there and then there were religions that didn't exist
- 17:33Speaker 2: in the seventeen hundreds that showed up in the eighteen
- 17:36Speaker 2: hundreds and it become mainstream like LDS. So the point
- 17:40Speaker 2: is this is who we are, right, we are the
- 17:43Speaker 2: home of religious liberty and religious freedom, and it is
- 17:51Speaker 2: it's sort of like what comes with breaking barriers. Sometimes
- 17:55Speaker 2: he's trying to break a barrier, wells, Jackie Robinson, Right,
- 17:58Speaker 2: I mean, like, look it goes back like Kennedy had
- 18:01Speaker 2: to give Kennedy had to give the I don't work
- 18:04Speaker 2: for the Pope speech. Now we all think, well, that's
- 18:06Speaker 2: ridiculous well enough people openly were saying it that they thought,
- 18:12Speaker 2: just just shut this down. Now, let's just make it clear.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Your words are all that will be out there on
- 18:21Speaker 2: this because your opponent's whispering this won't have the guts
- 18:24Speaker 2: to say it out loud. That's the ration now behind
- 18:27Speaker 2: it Again, I get that there's risk with it. Then
- 18:30Speaker 2: it sort of but I think it's not as if
- 18:34Speaker 2: you're because the idea is, well, why are you playing
- 18:37Speaker 2: on their territory? Make them play for the territory. Correct,
- 18:40Speaker 2: I get it. This feels a little bit different, and
- 18:43Speaker 2: then I don't think the other morning it.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Will make it go away. I think said the traditional
- 18:49Speaker 1: campaign advice would be if you give a speech on this,
- 18:53Speaker 1: now everyone's going to be talking about it. But my argument,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think, and I think you're with me, is enough
- 18:57Speaker 1: people are talking about it anyway that it's going to
- 18:59Speaker 1: kind of rea a critical mass and you rather frame
- 19:02Speaker 1: it on your turn.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, and look, you do it,
- 19:06Speaker 2: you do it right, and you have you've in some
- 19:09Speaker 2: ways set yourself up if you do have ambition that's
- 19:13Speaker 2: larger than the Senate. So in fact, maybe that's the
- 19:18Speaker 2: that'll be the tell yeah, you know I might do it.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I'll tell you where I do it too. I do
- 19:25Speaker 2: it at the Gerald Ard for Museum in Grand Rapids. Yeah, absolutely,
- 19:29Speaker 2: I do it at the home. I do it at
- 19:30Speaker 2: a presidential museum in the library. I always forget. I
- 19:33Speaker 2: think the museums and Grand Rapids, the libraries and in Arbor.
- 19:37Speaker 2: It's it's like, I think that's right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Can I ask your lading question?
- 19:51Speaker 2: I want to do a little more sent guess you
- 19:53Speaker 2: can do it on Macanaw, but you know what I
- 19:54Speaker 2: get now, don't do it on Macana Mouth Macanaw. I don't.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I mean in defense this. I know what he was
- 20:01Speaker 2: bad bouthing. He was going. He hated having to be
- 20:04Speaker 2: on display. Yes there, no, well no, it's it's have
- 20:10Speaker 2: you done the conference? It's fast not but it is like,
- 20:14Speaker 2: imagine a convention that got contained on an island and
- 20:20Speaker 2: get away from the people, so you can't get away
- 20:22Speaker 2: from anybody no matter where you go.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Hey, I just got one more question I want to
- 20:26Speaker 1: ask you. You're like, I just want to literally sit.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I think his experience at Mackinaws about the conference. But
- 20:33Speaker 2: you know the fact is, hey, that's welcome to welcome
- 20:36Speaker 2: to hot mics.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I want to do a little more senate
- 20:41Speaker 1: math with you, but I do want to take you
- 20:42Speaker 1: on a quick side branch.
- 20:45Speaker 2: John F.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Kennedy is you know, a Catholic running. He gives a
- 20:48Speaker 1: speech about being Catholic. Barack Obama is you know, the
- 20:51Speaker 1: first very prominent nominee African American nominee.
- 20:55Speaker 2: He gives a speech about race and kind of his back.
- 20:58Speaker 2: By the way, he was also there, he had another member.
- 21:01Speaker 2: He was still dealing with all the Muslim stuff, closet
- 21:04Speaker 2: Muslim stuff.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah he was.
- 21:05Speaker 2: He was born in king He was right, so he
- 21:07Speaker 2: was also the birther stuff. He was also making sure
- 21:11Speaker 2: people understood his Christianity. Yep.
- 21:14Speaker 1: We've talked about LSA ed the possibility of giving a
- 21:16Speaker 1: speech about that as a Jewish person. We are going
- 21:20Speaker 1: to have two I think at least one and maybe two.
- 21:24Speaker 1: John Ossoff and and the governor of excuse me, Joshpier
- 21:29Speaker 1: the governor Pennsylvania are both Jewish.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So's the governor of Illinois and JB. Pritzker. So three,
- 21:35Speaker 2: two of which is Romamanue wants to run. So there's four.
- 21:40Speaker 1: We've never had a Jewish president when I said, I
- 21:43Speaker 1: think it would make sense for Kamala Harris to pick Joshpier.
- 21:45Speaker 1: He's from a swing stage, he's a popular governor. She
- 21:47Speaker 1: didn't the rumors out of that, the whispers out of
- 21:50Speaker 1: that where while she was they didn't get along totally.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But also like a.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Jewish did that, does whoever winds up being kind of
- 21:58Speaker 1: the most prominent of that group that we just mentioned
- 22:00Speaker 1: for I didn't even I didn't even think of Ramin Pritsker.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Should one of them give it?
- 22:06Speaker 2: I think they're going to have to give the interesting
- 22:08Speaker 2: give the israel Is is you know the Is. You
- 22:13Speaker 2: know I don't work for the Israeli government, I mean
- 22:15Speaker 2: the Kennedy the Kennedy I don't work for the I
- 22:18Speaker 2: think it, I absolutely do. I think it interesting going
- 22:21Speaker 2: to be necessary. It's now maybe frankly, it's such a
- 22:28Speaker 2: high profile issue that they'll all be saying a version
- 22:31Speaker 2: of it anyway, right, which is I don't agree with
- 22:35Speaker 2: you know, Benjaminettna, who has done more to damage Jews
- 22:39Speaker 2: in America than any other person, you know, whatever whatever
- 22:42Speaker 2: line you want to use, you know, or the in
- 22:47Speaker 2: the same way that you know Benjaminetta, who doesn't reflect
- 22:52Speaker 2: all Jews, correct, Donald Trump doesn't reflect all Americans, you
- 22:57Speaker 2: know what I mean, type of type of things.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It's interesting. I had thought of it literally before we
- 23:01Speaker 1: got on this and started talking about elsied. But it
- 23:04Speaker 1: is a thing.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Let's say that.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Shapiro is kind of looking, you know, is in second
- 23:11Speaker 1: or something. It is a thing that people it's the
- 23:14Speaker 1: whole whisper about. And then how much credence do you give?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Like that's the calculation always how much of this is
- 23:21Speaker 1: just fever swamp stuff versus this is what actual voters
- 23:25Speaker 1: care about. It's so hard to measure, but that's the question.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Well, look, I do think that there are voters that
- 23:31Speaker 2: it's way too whether it's whether this is fair or not,
- 23:35Speaker 2: there is way too many irresponsible people that have made
- 23:39Speaker 2: it that have convinced people that all Jewish Americans are
- 23:44Speaker 2: as loyal to Israel as they are to the Constitution.
- 23:47Speaker 2: You know, it's insulting. I want to say fu when
- 23:51Speaker 2: people say that about Jews in America, but it's a reality.
- 23:56Speaker 2: It's the same way I'm sure Catholics felt in the fifties,
- 24:00Speaker 2: you know, when they were being questioned about whether they
- 24:02Speaker 2: were more loyal to the Pope than to the Constitution.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You know, I'm sorry, I'm more I you know, I
- 24:09Speaker 2: know what i'd say. I said, I'm more loyal to
- 24:11Speaker 2: the Constitution than any Western mythology that exists, whether it's
- 24:15Speaker 2: the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Book of Mormon,
- 24:17Speaker 2: you name it. And that might offend other people, but
- 24:23Speaker 2: you know, I do think if you want to be
- 24:25Speaker 2: the first Jewish president in this political environment, you probably
- 24:31Speaker 2: have no choice but to simply restate your loyalty to
- 24:36Speaker 2: the Constitution above any religious texts. That's out.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I mean, I think back even a two thousand right
- 24:43Speaker 1: with Lieberman as the as the it was like, well,
- 24:46Speaker 1: is he going to be able to work on Sunday?
- 24:48Speaker 1: You know, I mean on Saturday as a whole thing.
- 24:50Speaker 1: He was observed not everybody.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Jewish, just like there's open staate Catholics, of course, not
- 24:57Speaker 2: open state Catholic.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It was still an interesting thing because, like I didn't
- 25:01Speaker 1: really think about.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I grew up in Connecticut, so I knew Lieberman. You've
- 25:04Speaker 2: been my senator forever.
- 25:05Speaker 3: And I especially now right with the issue as big
- 25:10Speaker 3: an issue and as unresolved an issue as it is
- 25:12Speaker 3: in the Democratic Party going forward, all right, let's do one.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Twenty twenty sixth and twenty twenty eight things. So, but
- 25:19Speaker 1: Tim Scott, who heads the Republican Senatorial Committee, he's in
- 25:23Speaker 1: charge of trying to keep the Senate majority. He gave
- 25:25Speaker 1: an interview with our friend Manu Raju on CNN that
- 25:28Speaker 1: they ran yesterday, and at the end of the interview,
- 25:31Speaker 1: man who says, do you think you're gonna be able
- 25:33Speaker 1: to hold the Senate? And Tim Scott says, I think
- 25:36Speaker 1: we're gonna win. I think we're gonna have fifty four
- 25:39Speaker 1: seats in in January.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Now I just chucked.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I want to pull this up because I always love
- 25:45Speaker 1: we people know that we love DDHK.
- 25:48Speaker 2: We welcome to the Welcome to the world of Trump,
- 25:50Speaker 2: where you have to if you'll guess you just have
- 25:54Speaker 2: to bullshit your way around. Well, let me pull this
- 25:56Speaker 2: care so you're not allowed to speak the truth.
- 25:59Speaker 1: This is the DHQ map. Okay, now I did very quickly.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Are there are four seats that Tim Scott talks about
- 26:07Speaker 1: as pickups New Hampshire, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota. No, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 1: Minnesota's probably on the outer edge there. But in order
- 26:15Speaker 1: for them to net one seat, they would have to
- 26:17Speaker 1: win at least two of those and then lose only
- 26:20Speaker 1: one of all the other seats you see on there,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and that's you know, that's North Carolina, Maine, Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Alaska, Nebraska, Kansas.
- 26:31Speaker 2: You know?
- 26:32Speaker 1: Is this just and I wanted to scroll down because
- 26:35Speaker 1: this is a cool thing that DDHQ does. They do this,
- 26:37Speaker 1: like what are the chances thing? So I just went here,
- 26:40Speaker 1: fifty four seats Tim Scott's prediction, there's a six point
- 26:44Speaker 1: three percent chance in all the simulations they run. Is
- 26:47Speaker 1: this chuck? Is this just utter?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Is it just Trump?
- 26:51Speaker 1: Like what we're going to try to hold the majority?
- 26:54Speaker 2: The trumpification? Which is okay, I wanted to get your
- 26:57Speaker 2: gun rhetoric. Yeah, Like I don't think it's and I
- 27:00Speaker 2: don't think Tim Scott would have said it seriously in
- 27:03Speaker 2: and off the record situation, right, Like, okay, he can't
- 27:06Speaker 2: get caught on the right. I mean, this is what
- 27:08Speaker 2: happens to when you've made all rhetoric partisan rhetoric, right,
- 27:12Speaker 2: which is you can't ever get caught speaking the truth. Right.
- 27:16Speaker 2: The biggest problem for partisans in politics right now is
- 27:19Speaker 2: that they're not They get punished for saying the truth. Right,
- 27:22Speaker 2: if you say I don't care, I can't. I don't
- 27:24Speaker 2: have the votes for the save Act Trader, you know,
- 27:27Speaker 2: get out. You know, if you if you get caught
- 27:29Speaker 2: speaking reality, there's there's a heavy duty punishment. And look,
- 27:33Speaker 2: Tim Scott already is kind of on the ounce with
- 27:36Speaker 2: the Maga world and with Trump world. He desperately needs
- 27:40Speaker 2: Trump to finance. The only way Republicans have any hope
- 27:46Speaker 2: is if Trump, if Trump can somehow get some of
- 27:48Speaker 2: the Trump voters that only vote in presidentials, those shotgun
- 27:52Speaker 2: Trump voters. You know, how do they save Iowa? You
- 27:55Speaker 2: send Trump? How do you save Nebraska in theory you
- 27:58Speaker 2: send Trump? How do you say Idaho or South Dakota.
- 28:02Speaker 2: You're going to want to get Trump's buy in, so
- 28:05Speaker 2: they need he can't in some weird way, you can't
- 28:11Speaker 2: ever get caught, you know, talking down efforts or whatever.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And it's you know, Trump is a you know, Trump
- 28:19Speaker 2: is a who are the they are these nineteen fifties
- 28:23Speaker 2: books that he that he abides by. I think the
- 28:27Speaker 2: power positive thinking positive right, Trump is part of that cult. Yes,
- 28:32Speaker 2: And it's a little cultish, that power positive thinking world.
- 28:37Speaker 2: And I think you have to speak that cult language.
- 28:40Speaker 1: It reminded me of when you were talking to reminding
- 28:43Speaker 1: me of Michael Kinsley, who is just brilliant And if
- 28:45Speaker 1: you don't know Michael Kinsley's work, he does not writing
- 28:48Speaker 1: much anymore, but brilliant commentator around politics. His definition of
- 28:51Speaker 1: a gaff in Washington is when a politician accidentally tells
- 28:54Speaker 1: the truth. It's exactly what you said. Like if Tim
- 28:57Speaker 1: Scott had said, hey, look we'll be lucky. We're a
- 29:00Speaker 1: in for fifty. You know, all we need is a majority,
- 29:03Speaker 1: that would have been a problem. And like, if you
- 29:05Speaker 1: watch the whole interview, it's fascinating because Manu, to his credit,
- 29:09Speaker 1: is like, you guys spent millions of dollars saying that
- 29:12Speaker 1: Ken Paxson was dangerous, and you know, and now what
- 29:16Speaker 1: he's saying, and he's like, look, Ken Paxson's gonna win.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You know, It's just some of it is what you
- 29:21Speaker 1: have to say. He's not gonna say, hey, look we're
- 29:22Speaker 1: probably gonna lose Texas. But I was like, man just say, like,
- 29:26Speaker 1: we're going to do our best. It's a tough map
- 29:28Speaker 1: in a tough year. Don't say you're going to pick
- 29:29Speaker 1: this off.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Seats. You know, this is the problem for both our
- 29:33Speaker 2: industry and the industry of politics, right, which is, you know,
- 29:39Speaker 2: the more honest we are, the less likely you're going
- 29:44Speaker 2: to show up on one of the major networks, because
- 29:47Speaker 2: like the major networks are also bought in on this
- 29:50Speaker 2: idea that you know, we're supposed we're supposed to pretend
- 29:55Speaker 2: reality might not have happened yet, and so you have
- 29:58Speaker 2: to sort of accept the premise of everybody's theory of
- 30:01Speaker 2: the case.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Everything, every prediction is equal.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's you know, and you know I used
- 30:10Speaker 2: to get you know, I get criticized, Well, don't say
- 30:12Speaker 2: that the race is over. We want people to watch.
- 30:16Speaker 2: You know. Sometimes there would be that sort of conversation
- 30:19Speaker 2: you'd be like, yeah, but at the end of the day,
- 30:22Speaker 2: all I have is my credibility. You may not like me,
- 30:26Speaker 2: but one thing I don't do is tell you bullshit
- 30:29Speaker 2: like what I'm telling you. You may wish I would
- 30:32Speaker 2: would say it was something else like, but ninety nine
- 30:36Speaker 2: percent of my critics are partisan because they don't like
- 30:40Speaker 2: that I'm not supporting their point of view. Like it
- 30:42Speaker 2: is there there is no criticism coming from people based
- 30:46Speaker 2: on analyzing what I've said and somehow gotten it wrong.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's just through their own prism of what they want to.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And not to be self serving. But I'm going to
- 30:55Speaker 1: be self serving of us. One of the things, one
- 30:57Speaker 1: of the reasons we do these live streams and we
- 30:59Speaker 1: believe in them, is because I'll say, for myself, i'd
- 31:03Speaker 1: be watching like Wolf Blitzer and CNN or you know
- 31:06Speaker 1: whoever on MS and it would be like this, pretend
- 31:10Speaker 1: Patty Cake on an election night of like.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Oh it's too close, still close.
- 31:13Speaker 1: To call anyone who knows anything.
- 31:17Speaker 2: I never did that. I'll tell you. I used to
- 31:19Speaker 2: break the fourth wall a little bit. I said, look,
- 31:21Speaker 2: I know we've labeled this too close to call, but
- 31:24Speaker 2: here you'd rather be this person than that person, may explain,
- 31:29Speaker 2: which is also why, you know, and when I was
- 31:33Speaker 2: there that fewer people watched ABC or CBS because we
- 31:37Speaker 2: were leaning more into reality quicker, faster and all of
- 31:40Speaker 2: that stuff. And I think like this, and I you know,
- 31:46Speaker 2: I think we're learning an independent you know, where do
- 31:49Speaker 2: people gravitate in independent media? Well, where they feel like
- 31:52Speaker 2: they're just getting an unvarnished truth correct, Well, where do
- 31:55Speaker 2: I get that? In my politics? I don't know anybody
- 31:58Speaker 2: that speaks on varnish truths right now as an elected
- 32:00Speaker 2: very rare. There are very few. I think Spencer Cox
- 32:04Speaker 2: sort of does every once in a while. I think
- 32:06Speaker 2: Jared Polis likes to see himself as that. I'm not
- 32:10Speaker 2: saying there aren't some folks who swear they tell it
- 32:15Speaker 2: like it is, but they're pretty few and far between
- 32:19Speaker 2: because we've beat it out of them, because it's just
- 32:21Speaker 2: going to say it that's exactly right. No, I mean
- 32:23Speaker 2: we beat we the generic media.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Collective media now Chuck and particular for speaking.
- 32:29Speaker 2: The truth and rather than saying, well, they told the
- 32:34Speaker 2: truth on that one.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Right, Speaking of authenticity, this is actually an easy segue
- 32:40Speaker 1: for me. I got I have two twenty twenty eight things.
- 32:43Speaker 1: The first one so I'm I was away this weekend
- 32:47Speaker 1: and I'm driving back yesterday, and I well, my wife's driving,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and I'm just because otherwise this would be super dangerous.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I'm scrolling Instagram as I drive. No, my wife is driving.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I'm looking Instagram and I see and I hadn't seen
- 32:59Speaker 1: it the night before that. Algender Occasio Cortes has done
- 33:02Speaker 1: this long Instagram live where she talks about you know
- 33:07Speaker 1: the difficulties of being young and she's thirty six now.
- 33:09Speaker 1: She was the youngest woman elected when she was twenty eight,
- 33:11Speaker 1: the challenges of kind of growing up, and this leads
- 33:14Speaker 1: in it's like an eight minute preamble. She says, she's
- 33:17Speaker 1: rambling her words to this announcement that she is freezing
- 33:20Speaker 1: her eggs, which I was like, holy shit, like that
- 33:25Speaker 1: is really an interesting thing to kind of put out there.
- 33:30Speaker 1: And then less than twenty four hours later, she goes
- 33:33Speaker 1: on a Sunday show John Carl this week, and she
- 33:37Speaker 1: I assumed it turning these things down. She hadn't been
- 33:39Speaker 1: on one in two years. And it's not for those
- 33:41Speaker 1: shows lack of asking her, And she says, you know,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I'm open to the possibility of running for president in
- 33:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty eight. I was like, those two things are
- 33:50Speaker 1: not coincidental.
- 33:52Speaker 2: You don't.
- 33:52Speaker 1: It doesn't feel to me like you do that, Like
- 33:54Speaker 1: I'm making a choice to, you know, preserve the possibility
- 33:58Speaker 1: of being a mother one day. But it's not happening.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I fear me right now. And then yes, I am
- 34:01Speaker 1: first now saying I'm opening to the possibility of twenty
- 34:04Speaker 1: twenty eight. What did you make I find her endlessly fascinating.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I think I probably think she has a better chance
- 34:09Speaker 1: of winning a nomination than you do. But what did
- 34:11Speaker 1: you kind of make of that?
- 34:12Speaker 2: No, And it does feel as if she she is
- 34:18Speaker 2: she's It feels to me she said, hey, I'm not
- 34:23Speaker 2: I have it. You know. I think you could have
- 34:27Speaker 2: read between the lines before this weekend that she was
- 34:30Speaker 2: as likely to run for Senate in twenty eight as
- 34:34Speaker 2: she was for president Unda. It did feel as if
- 34:38Speaker 2: she said no, no, no, no, no, let me, let me,
- 34:41Speaker 2: let me. I'm gonna it's my you know, I want
- 34:45Speaker 2: to make sure that all the others that want to
- 34:48Speaker 2: run in this lane, in the progressive lane, I have
- 34:51Speaker 2: the right to first refusal. Yep, she didn't say it
- 34:54Speaker 2: that way, and I think she does. And frankly, it's
- 34:56Speaker 2: a I'm I'm not saying this motivated her, but there's
- 35:02Speaker 2: no doubt in my mind Abdul say Ed is running
- 35:05Speaker 2: for president if he wins.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Whether it's I think she's not stupid.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I'm not saying he does it in twenty eight for sure.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I think that in fact, he'd be It would be
- 35:17Speaker 2: a mistake if he If she gets in and he
- 35:20Speaker 2: gets in, but he clearly if she doesn't run, I
- 35:23Speaker 2: think he gets in you know, Rocon.
- 35:25Speaker 1: He's not getting the most high profile lefty.
- 35:29Speaker 2: And if he lives in the battleground state, he's going
- 35:32Speaker 2: to have more juice than anybody else buying that a
- 35:36Speaker 2: house member from the Bronx or the house member from
- 35:38Speaker 2: Silicon from San Jose. I mean, the statewide elected progressive
- 35:43Speaker 2: in Michigan is going to have a lot more cachet
- 35:46Speaker 2: and a lot more and a better case to make
- 35:49Speaker 2: to the donor, to the progressive donor community.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Oh totally. I'm wanting a place that isn't just all Democrats.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I've proven it.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I think that. And the fact that abdul ed was
- 35:59Speaker 2: making the Sunday Show rounds just didn't feel like an accident,
- 36:04Speaker 2: like she it is, I take it. I take it
- 36:08Speaker 2: more seriously, like, look, she's setting herself up her personal life,
- 36:11Speaker 2: because that is a question I had. She's of this,
- 36:14Speaker 2: like does she have to make a choice between starting
- 36:17Speaker 2: a family and running for president? And she is essentially
- 36:20Speaker 2: without saying it is that she's made sure that she
- 36:24Speaker 2: can be in a situation where it's not an either
- 36:27Speaker 2: or that's all right, right, And you know, if I'm
- 36:31Speaker 2: in if I'm in her shoes, that's a position I
- 36:36Speaker 2: want to be in, right. I want to be in
- 36:37Speaker 2: a position where I feel as if I can make
- 36:40Speaker 2: this decision, you know, going forward. But you know, this
- 36:47Speaker 2: is where I just think in general, and this is
- 36:50Speaker 2: not about gender, I think you're a stronger candidate for
- 36:58Speaker 2: president if you're a parent than if you're.
- 37:02Speaker 1: That is interesting.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I just do I think it was an issue. I
- 37:08Speaker 2: think it was a issue that you can't pull with Kamala. No, Okay,
- 37:12Speaker 2: now you can't. It's impossible. Nobody gives you. I can
- 37:15Speaker 2: just tell you the experience that. Look, my wife's worked
- 37:23Speaker 2: with clients who have been single when they ran or
- 37:28Speaker 2: childless when they ran, and it was an issue with
- 37:31Speaker 2: older women in particular older African American women would ask
- 37:37Speaker 2: the question a lot. So it is not an insignificant
- 37:41Speaker 2: issue for some voters. Now the question is is it
- 37:45Speaker 2: you know? And so I just think it is the
- 37:51Speaker 2: whole idea. Are you in touch? Right? You know? Being
- 37:54Speaker 2: your parent, it's another language. You speak the same language
- 37:58Speaker 2: as a whole bunch of other voters of a certain age.
- 38:02Speaker 1: So, and you have an investment or very real investment
- 38:04Speaker 1: in the future, right, like, it's not just about you.
- 38:07Speaker 1: The other thing I would say, Koo Chuck, is like
- 38:09Speaker 1: I just just quickly thinking through my mind, like George W.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Bush's daughters who were young at the time he ran
- 38:16Speaker 1: and and his wife I think helped him at the
- 38:20Speaker 1: margins made.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Him more likable. He's a good dad.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I think you could say the exact same thing about
- 38:25Speaker 1: the Obama daughters, like whether you hate him or you
- 38:28Speaker 1: like him, they his family seems to like him.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And I remember distinctly in the era, the Biden family
- 38:35Speaker 2: was an asset, huge accent. I don't want to get
- 38:37Speaker 2: into that business now. I mean, obviously it became complicated,
- 38:40Speaker 2: but the Biden clan was seen as a net positive.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Hey you have Obama's family and the Biden family. That's great.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Look at that huge, giant, blended, particutely blended family.
- 38:51Speaker 1: And even in twenty sixteen, and I know we're so
- 38:53Speaker 1: far down the road, it's hard to remember this, but
- 38:55Speaker 1: you can find articles where it's like you there are
- 38:57Speaker 1: voters quoted as saying like I don't love Don Trump's style,
- 39:00Speaker 1: but like his kids are impressive, or you know what
- 39:03Speaker 1: I mean, especially Ivanka, like that that was a thing
- 39:06Speaker 1: to the extent there was anything that made him empathetic
- 39:10Speaker 1: or appealing in a like non hard edged way.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Was that so?
- 39:15Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean, look, who was the last bachelor president
- 39:18Speaker 1: was at Franklin Pierce. I mean, it doesn't happen very often. No,
- 39:22Speaker 1: And look, I'll never forget Bob Carrey.
- 39:26Speaker 2: He was single. Yeah, he'd been divorced and had had
- 39:31Speaker 2: a grown child I think at the time. But he
- 39:35Speaker 2: he was one of the on the short list with
- 39:37Speaker 2: Al Gore to be Bill Clinton's running mate. And you know, Carrie,
- 39:42Speaker 2: I love Bob Carrey. He was a great, great, great quote. Right. Yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 2: As a reporter, you just sort of loved you. He
- 39:48Speaker 2: was somebody that they were great quotes. They didn't you, Eddie.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Eddie didn't have much of a filter. And he said, yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 2: he said, you know, if they picked me as a
- 39:57Speaker 2: running mate, it's Bill, Hillary and Bob, you know, but
- 40:00Speaker 2: if you pick Al, it's Bill Hillary Al Tipper and
- 40:03Speaker 2: you got three kids, and there's this huge thing. And
- 40:06Speaker 2: he goes and he basically thought he was that he
- 40:10Speaker 2: didn't bring anything to the ticket because he wasn't bringing
- 40:13Speaker 2: a family for the big photo at the Governor's mansion,
- 40:16Speaker 2: right of course, and that was sort of Bob Carrey
- 40:20Speaker 2: doing what you love when a politician accidentally selling the
- 40:24Speaker 2: quiet part out loud, right, and he of course, but
- 40:30Speaker 2: I'm sure Paul mcgalla James Carvel said yeah, hey, that
- 40:33Speaker 2: picture with the Gors is pretty good.
- 40:45Speaker 1: And then like John Carry, Bob Carey is standing with
- 40:48Speaker 1: his girlfriend as a VP nominee. Okay, speaking of my
- 40:55Speaker 1: second twenty twenty eight question.
- 40:57Speaker 2: I can't wait till somebody cherry picks this guy conversation
- 41:00Speaker 2: and tries to it have to be married, right, you know,
- 41:04Speaker 2: listen to what Chuck Todd and Chrystalsa said and we're
- 41:06Speaker 2: going to give it to you way out of context.
- 41:08Speaker 2: So I can't wait for the ats with thanks to
- 41:11Speaker 2: sherry picked assholes. Dude, there are a lot of people
- 41:15Speaker 2: who like to just chop up what we say. It's like,
- 41:17Speaker 2: don't you have anything better? I mean I thought we
- 41:20Speaker 2: were irrelevant.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I know, well exactly.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I always love the people like nobody listens to you
- 41:26Speaker 2: as they're except a chopping it up and responding you
- 41:31Speaker 2: don't I always think of I think you'd have time
- 41:32Speaker 2: about the police.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's one of my favorite things it's at Howard
- 41:36Speaker 1: Stern saying that they did a study of his audience
- 41:38Speaker 1: and people who said they loved Howard Stern. This is
- 41:40Speaker 1: back on terrestrial radio. Listen for forty minutes today and
- 41:43Speaker 1: people said they hated Howard Stern. Listened for two hours.
- 41:46Speaker 1: It's like the best. It's like my favorite statistic that
- 41:49Speaker 1: gets us there. Okay, twenty twenty eight ass Off. I
- 41:55Speaker 1: saw it today. Maybe it was Monday, Yes, Monday that
- 41:58Speaker 1: ass Off has now passed Gavin Newsom in the Calshi
- 42:03Speaker 1: prediction market and in poly market. I just checked before
- 42:06Speaker 1: we went on. He's second. Now I think I think
- 42:09Speaker 1: Newsom's at like eighteen and also set sixteen point seven.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Is this is this a bubble?
- 42:17Speaker 1: Is it real?
- 42:18Speaker 2: Chuck?
- 42:18Speaker 1: Do you expect I had always said I didn't expect
- 42:20Speaker 1: him to run because it would be such a quick
- 42:22Speaker 1: turnaround after a really long twenty six campaign. But am
- 42:25Speaker 1: I wrong? Like? Can you look at numbers that he
- 42:28Speaker 1: sees and be like, you know what, I'll just wait
- 42:31Speaker 1: because timing is everything.
- 42:32Speaker 2: We learned that with Obama, we learned.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It with Hillary Clinton, Like oh yeah, no, I mean
- 42:35Speaker 1: if Hillary had run an O for She's probably the president.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Right. Look, I will tell you that I don't. I
- 42:40Speaker 2: haven't spoken to John Ossoff in the last two years.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I'm not going to sit here and tell you I
- 42:45Speaker 2: know him what he's thinking in the other years. I
- 42:48Speaker 2: can just tell you that somebody who ran for office
- 42:54Speaker 2: and raised the money that he raised, and how special
- 42:56Speaker 2: election where he came up short yep team defied all
- 43:01Speaker 2: these people who told him, oh, you're wasting your time
- 43:04Speaker 2: running for the US Senate in Georgia and all of this.
- 43:08Speaker 2: So I think he clearly has the ambition. He is
- 43:16Speaker 2: got a foothold, and he is going to keep going
- 43:18Speaker 2: and he's going to press ahead. So I don't I see, No,
- 43:26Speaker 2: it's not Look, it's not easy to go from one, say,
- 43:32Speaker 2: one hundred million dollar campaign to go to a billion
- 43:35Speaker 2: dollar campaign. And the downside for him if he does
- 43:39Speaker 2: do it, is exhaustion his family.
- 43:43Speaker 1: He's got a young family, you know. I mean, I
- 43:47Speaker 1: was just gonna I meant just his own exhaustion. But yes,
- 43:49Speaker 1: Donor exhaustions seven million bucks in this campaign, that's right,
- 43:53Speaker 1: first Senate.
- 43:56Speaker 2: So you know, I that's the part of this is
- 44:01Speaker 2: does he physically want to just roll over and do
- 44:04Speaker 2: this like like Obama, you know, ran in O four.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Because it was four years between more years.
- 44:10Speaker 2: He got a little bit of a respite. You don't
- 44:13Speaker 2: get any respite at all. I mean, if you're if
- 44:15Speaker 2: you're not running full's time for president starting February one,
- 44:19Speaker 2: then you're already behind. That's the way I feel. Going
- 44:23Speaker 2: to do you think people show but I look, I
- 44:27Speaker 2: buy the idea if they're you know, Osoff. If you eliminate,
- 44:35Speaker 2: I'll do well, I'll saw yet we don't know yet,
- 44:37Speaker 2: right yep. But barring his victory, if he wins, if
- 44:45Speaker 2: he doesn't win, then Osov's the most progressive victor in
- 44:49Speaker 2: a swing state that you can yes, absolutely when check
- 44:54Speaker 2: a you know, if you're like, look, who is somebody
- 44:58Speaker 2: that both progressive and the establishment will be able to
- 45:04Speaker 2: not be uncomfortable with.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Could get behind? Right? Not gonna love every bit?
- 45:09Speaker 2: Right, I look at all the different right as Off
- 45:16Speaker 2: Pritzker feel like the two that I think could bridge
- 45:22Speaker 2: that divide. I don't, and I'm i'm i'm a I'm
- 45:26Speaker 2: not sitting saying I buy both of them. But you know,
- 45:30Speaker 2: I think Pritzker has the money to sort of not
- 45:37Speaker 2: have to worry about the mainstream donors. And at the
- 45:41Speaker 2: same time he's got a little he's sort of got
- 45:44Speaker 2: the same He's got a record that Gavin Newsom would
- 45:48Speaker 2: claim to have liber record, except you know Gavin did
- 45:53Speaker 2: it on the back of Jerry Brown's. You know, you know,
- 45:57Speaker 2: Pritzker's built this a bit, right. You know he beat
- 45:59Speaker 2: a Republican, right, that's interesting.
- 46:05Speaker 4: I I I think I'm still too down on Pritzker,
- 46:10Speaker 4: like I I when I rank them, I always find
- 46:13Speaker 4: myself putting him like eighth ninth, like I know, and.
- 46:16Speaker 2: I know why you do, and I would it sort
- 46:19Speaker 2: of would have been my initial instinct. I've I've watched him, yeah,
- 46:25Speaker 2: up close. Uh he You know, first of all, he's
- 46:29Speaker 2: got the desire, right that matters. That's the only to
- 46:31Speaker 2: do what it takes. And I don't know how else
- 46:34Speaker 2: to convey that. But if you don't have somebody who's
- 46:37Speaker 2: just willing and awesome, is it's brutal.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I hear about brutal process, right, Like it's a brutal
- 46:43Speaker 1: I say this, does Mark Kelly have it in him?
- 46:46Speaker 2: That's what it takes? And I don't mean that as
- 46:49Speaker 2: a knock on him. He's just a human it's another
- 46:52Speaker 2: level of commitment. Yes that I don't think people fully
- 46:56Speaker 2: Both Pritzker and Osof feel like they've got the they've
- 46:59Speaker 2: got that hung Okay, now Schapiro has that hunger absolutely,
- 47:06Speaker 2: And I'll tell you one that I'm not sure about myself,
- 47:08Speaker 2: even though I think he's the on paper front runner,
- 47:12Speaker 2: if he wanted to be, he could be. And that's
- 47:14Speaker 2: Wes Moore.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I wonder. Yeah, I don't know, because he's got a lot.
- 47:21Speaker 1: You have to have it geted into running. You're not
- 47:24Speaker 1: going to be a good candidate. It has to be
- 47:26Speaker 1: like smiling the precious. I hate to say it, but
- 47:29Speaker 1: it has to be. You have to be obsessed by it. Otherwise,
- 47:32Speaker 1: like people make fun of Bill Clinton for being so political,
- 47:35Speaker 1: that's who wins.
- 47:36Speaker 2: And guess, in fact, you just said that. If you
- 47:38Speaker 2: were to ask me, who's the reincarnation of Bill Clinton?
- 47:42Speaker 2: As far as a bit aspiration, maybe you say to
- 47:45Speaker 2: yourself that person seems a little bit in a hurry,
- 47:48Speaker 2: but that the person a little bit in a hurry
- 47:50Speaker 2: usually gets rewarded right.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Back, Obama, that was the criticism of that.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Right asof feels like totally fits that definition. That are
- 48:01Speaker 2: better than even Josh Shapiro does you know, there's a
- 48:03Speaker 2: part of Shapiro that sometimes there's a fine line between ah,
- 48:11Speaker 2: wanting it and trying too hard one hundred.
- 48:15Speaker 1: That's always the danger.
- 48:16Speaker 2: There's times that I feel like Shapiro has the like
- 48:20Speaker 2: I'd have I'd have let other people talk about the
- 48:23Speaker 2: role he might have or might not have played with
- 48:26Speaker 2: getting Mick Lebron, I found it to be a little
- 48:29Speaker 2: bit I did put me.
- 48:31Speaker 1: In the story, Yeah, yeah, or like being in the
- 48:34Speaker 1: Meek Milvie. You know who does that?
- 48:36Speaker 2: It's you know who constantly does that? Donald Trump?
- 48:39Speaker 1: Right?
- 48:39Speaker 2: Do you really want to be doing what Trump does,
- 48:43Speaker 2: trying to get involved in every story that's not about you.
- 48:46Speaker 1: It is a good point, like there's you know, there's
- 48:48Speaker 1: that great line in spinal tap.
- 48:49Speaker 2: There's a fine line between.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Clever and stupid. There's a very fine line between like
- 48:55Speaker 1: having the inner drive in you know, November of twenty
- 49:01Speaker 1: twenty seven at five degree temperatures in Des Moines to
- 49:05Speaker 1: get out, get up at six o'clock in the morning
- 49:07Speaker 1: and act like everyone you meet is your best friend
- 49:10Speaker 1: and showing it off a little too much. No one
- 49:13Speaker 1: likes the person who's a tryhard, like.
- 49:16Speaker 2: You just don't.
- 49:17Speaker 1: And I think Shapiro might give off that vibe like
- 49:20Speaker 1: a little bit too much.
- 49:22Speaker 2: We'll see, we'll see, Chuck.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Anything else that I have a little sports, but anything
- 49:27Speaker 1: else you want to make sure we get to other
- 49:30Speaker 1: than to again promote Tuesday night, Chuck me decision to
- 49:33Speaker 1: s KHQ, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Carolina, Connecticut. I think Vermont
- 49:38Speaker 1: might be might be on Tuesday as well. Anything else
- 49:42Speaker 1: that jumps to mine.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I mean we didn't do anything on Blanche and Bill Cassidy.
- 49:46Speaker 2: I mean that is something. I mean, he's through Cassidy's
- 49:51Speaker 2: I confess. I mean it's Lucy in the foot. I
- 49:54Speaker 2: am shocked that point.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Did you think he was gonna be I just assumed
- 49:58Speaker 1: he would be for it, because he's a he's not that.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I thought there was enough. I thought Houston, I thought
- 50:05Speaker 2: that the following senators Houston in particular Houston Sullivan throwing
- 50:12Speaker 2: a rickets. You know that they didn't they they were
- 50:16Speaker 2: hoping that Cassidy and Cornyan until Us would do the
- 50:19Speaker 2: dirty work for him. Oh totally, that's for sure.
- 50:21Speaker 1: That's still true.
- 50:23Speaker 2: And I think that that Corny Untilus choked and and
- 50:29Speaker 2: wouldn't do it. You know, it's it's a it's astonishing.
- 50:38Speaker 2: The rationale Cassidy used in his speech, because the speech
- 50:43Speaker 2: arguably was a rationale to vote against confirmation, and it
- 50:49Speaker 2: was when your rationale is, well, maybe Bill Barr thinks
- 50:52Speaker 2: that maybe the personal relationship means that he has a
- 50:56Speaker 2: better chance of of convincing Trump not to do better
- 51:00Speaker 2: things was, yeah, we only have ten years of proof.
- 51:03Speaker 2: That's not part I mean, I mean it's laughable. And
- 51:07Speaker 2: what was Look, I think we both know what happened,
- 51:09Speaker 2: and this is the part that doesn't get reported. The
- 51:13Speaker 2: personal attacks, the threats to his family, absolutely, threats to
- 51:17Speaker 2: his life. Threat you know, I'm sure a bunch of
- 51:21Speaker 2: people said, why do you want to? Don't you want
- 51:24Speaker 2: to have a compante retirement? You're seventy years old. Don't
- 51:27Speaker 2: you want to be invited back to these special events?
- 51:30Speaker 2: Don't you want to? And that was used with Tillis,
- 51:33Speaker 2: Cornyn and Cassidy. And you know, you're and I know
- 51:37Speaker 2: this from conversations I've had with now former Republican senators
- 51:41Speaker 2: who have had this conversation with and they're like, you
- 51:43Speaker 2: don't understand. I said, Okay, I know, I get attacked
- 51:46Speaker 2: a lot. I don't let it change what I do.
- 51:50Speaker 2: And I didn't make it. I didn't make a contract
- 51:53Speaker 2: with the voters to do what you did. And if
- 51:58Speaker 2: you are telling telling me that threats are having that
- 52:04Speaker 2: kind of influence on how you vote, because that is
- 52:08Speaker 2: what happened here. Oh, I'm sure it's what happened here.
- 52:11Speaker 2: You don't want to be.
- 52:12Speaker 1: You don't want to be as you're leaving to have
- 52:14Speaker 1: the Louisiana Republican Party disown you and like you just
- 52:17Speaker 1: got to go out.
- 52:17Speaker 2: You're right, except now, hell of a legacy. What's the point?
- 52:22Speaker 1: I'm been in a Senate But isn't his speech? You
- 52:25Speaker 1: know what I thought of watching his speech shook. It
- 52:27Speaker 1: was just like the speech about why he was voting
- 52:29Speaker 1: to confirm r FK JR. It was an argument. It
- 52:32Speaker 1: was like he had the speech written to say, and
- 52:34Speaker 1: I'm going to oppose this nomination with RFK Junior and
- 52:36Speaker 1: Blanche and he gave that speech and then just appended
- 52:41Speaker 1: and that's why I'm voting for him. It's like, wait,
- 52:43Speaker 1: that's your speech was the exact opposite of that. It's
- 52:45Speaker 1: very odd to me.
- 52:47Speaker 2: It is, And I again, like I said, I I
- 52:51Speaker 2: under I understand how awful it is what these people
- 52:55Speaker 2: do and what they did to you know, what happened
- 52:58Speaker 2: that missus tillis what happened you know what happens to
- 53:02Speaker 2: their kids, their adult children, their friends. I mean, the
- 53:07Speaker 2: harassment that MAGA makes of these people. It's very real,
- 53:10Speaker 2: There's no question it's it's terrible, and I understand the
- 53:14Speaker 2: mindset of but you know, you chose to be in
- 53:19Speaker 2: public services, which means you chose to put the public
- 53:23Speaker 2: ahead of your family. And if you won't put the
- 53:26Speaker 2: public interest ahead of your own family interest, get out
- 53:30Speaker 2: of politics, get the f out. You are not qualified
- 53:35Speaker 2: to be in public service if you can't do that.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Yep, I totally agree. I will. I don't know why,
- 53:42Speaker 1: but it reminded me of my favorite Trump quote from
- 53:44Speaker 1: this past week. He did an interview with punch Bowl
- 53:46Speaker 1: Jake Sherman, and he said Jake was like, why why
- 53:49Speaker 1: are Republicans doing so badly? And Trump said, voters are
- 53:52Speaker 1: angry at the Republicans, not angry at me, by the way,
- 53:55Speaker 1: I mean, by the way.
- 53:56Speaker 2: More proof point one thousand of what I said. He
- 54:00Speaker 2: does not care about the future of the Republican Party.
- 54:04Speaker 2: And I have to tell you, is he going to
- 54:05Speaker 2: write checks?
- 54:09Speaker 1: We're going to spend off the four hundred million dollars
- 54:11Speaker 1: that's in the magnetic superpack.
- 54:13Speaker 2: You know. He sounded like a guy that's like, yeah,
- 54:15Speaker 2: good luck with turn out in Iowa.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I don't I don't see it. He has never been
- 54:19Speaker 1: someone who supports things that are not in his own directors, and.
- 54:23Speaker 2: He thinks it's better for his brand if he's the
- 54:25Speaker 2: only Republican left.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And this is my argument about it. I think you
- 54:29Speaker 1: can make a case that if you gave Donald Trump
- 54:31Speaker 1: true sermon and said would you rather have a Republican
- 54:34Speaker 1: replace you were a Democrat, he would probably say We're
- 54:36Speaker 1: a Democrat. I mean, I really believe that.
- 54:37Speaker 2: That's just when I was out.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Seven game losing streak trades, the Washington Nationals pull me
- 54:49Speaker 1: back in Chuck.
- 54:50Speaker 2: We sweep the Reds.
- 54:51Speaker 1: We've now won five of six. We are three and
- 54:54Speaker 1: a half games out of the last.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Me on Thursday, Wake me on Thursday.
- 54:57Speaker 1: So you want to see how the CUB series goes.
- 55:00Speaker 2: We're going to be good teams. Correct. We have been
- 55:02Speaker 2: very consistent. I'm with you. We beat the best the
- 55:05Speaker 2: only team in the playoff hunt that we have owned
- 55:09Speaker 2: is the Diamondbacks. I was gonna say, das yep, and
- 55:12Speaker 2: they're still in it, right yep, other.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Than you signed Zach Lttel our cast off.
- 55:18Speaker 2: I mean, shoot, we were head neck and neck with
- 55:20Speaker 2: the Marlins, and the Marlins had us, right yep. We're
- 55:26Speaker 2: We did beat the Guardians and they're obviously in play
- 55:30Speaker 2: Central Division.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Then we lost seven in a row to the Dodgers
- 55:36Speaker 1: in the Phillies.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean every time we have clearly played a
- 55:40Speaker 2: team on the next level above us, Yes, you know
- 55:45Speaker 2: we've We've gotten our butts handed to us, Yes we have.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Well, I can't resist. I'm a sucker. I can't no.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I mean I was pleased, and you know it's funny.
- 55:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna I say this because I'm just a baseball
- 55:59Speaker 2: historian nut too, and what is wrong with that Red
- 56:04Speaker 2: Lake franchise. The Cincinnati Reds are a foundational team, arguably
- 56:08Speaker 2: the oldest team in Major League Baseball. I mean when
- 56:11Speaker 2: they're growing up, the big machine, I mean right, yea,
- 56:13Speaker 2: the big Red Machine. But it's not just that. You know,
- 56:16Speaker 2: remember they used to be opening you know, they they
- 56:18Speaker 2: always first pitch was always Cincinnati, right, It was just
- 56:22Speaker 2: they were the original game. And yeah they had crappy
- 56:29Speaker 2: ownership with March Shot and all that stuff, which you
- 56:31Speaker 2: have to go in the way back machine on that.
- 56:33Speaker 2: But I just, you know, there's a lot of pieces
- 56:37Speaker 2: to this version of the Reds that are pretty good,
- 56:41Speaker 2: but they can't seem to put it all together.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Some does not equal the parts. Elie de la Cruz
- 56:47Speaker 1: and this guy they may have, I mean the guy
- 56:49Speaker 1: Sam Spencer's his name is Salam Stewart, sal Stewart whatever.
- 56:54Speaker 1: He's having like an incredible rookie sees twenty five and runs.
- 56:57Speaker 2: But yeah, they just they got two pitchers. Granted Hunter
- 57:00Speaker 2: Green just went on the IL and might be the
- 57:02Speaker 2: other guy, Chase Burns now thirteen and two. I mean,
- 57:05Speaker 2: they have pieces. We were the first team to.
- 57:09Speaker 1: The Tarrot, like manager Chuck they needed.
- 57:13Speaker 2: They've got Tito Frank, I know, you know it's funny
- 57:18Speaker 2: you bring up Tito. You know, I wonder if it's
- 57:22Speaker 2: finally passed him by.
- 57:23Speaker 1: I know he's I hate saying that I love the sixties.
- 57:27Speaker 2: I love the guy. Yes, And in fact, I have
- 57:30Speaker 2: an old baseball card of his old man who did
- 57:32Speaker 2: go by Tito. It was this old man that went
- 57:34Speaker 2: by Tito. He went by Terry when he played Terry,
- 57:37Speaker 2: and then he became Tito. I think after his I
- 57:40Speaker 2: love him, Yeah.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I love he's He is a great human.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I think he's old school, you know, he's sort of
- 57:46Speaker 2: more of that generation of like Buck Show Walter. You
- 57:50Speaker 2: might even say, who was the Giants manager for all
- 57:55Speaker 2: those titles?
- 57:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, with the giant head, with the sure
- 58:00Speaker 1: he was yeah friendly, but Phil, no, I know exactly
- 58:04Speaker 1: what you're talking about. I can see if Bruce Bochie,
- 58:06Speaker 1: Bruce Bochy, you know he had a giant head. He
- 58:10Speaker 1: has like the last of those strategists right totally.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Where now it's a little we've got a.
- 58:15Speaker 1: We've got a thirty four year old analytics.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Driven They do and did you see him talk the
- 58:20Speaker 2: other night? They do scenarios. Okay, if we have one
- 58:23Speaker 2: out and there's a man on second, what are we
- 58:24Speaker 2: going to do and how are we going to do this?
- 58:26Speaker 2: Like they have all their scenarios pre programmed. I mean
- 58:30Speaker 2: it's worked, and it is. We're a lot better than
- 58:33Speaker 2: we have been, Chuck, I, like I said, I feel
- 58:36Speaker 2: like the Nats are prepared every night. The problem I
- 58:40Speaker 2: have is is it's a little too moneyballish, and I
- 58:45Speaker 2: think they don't fount I worry they don't value pictures.
- 58:48Speaker 1: And there's no like eyeball test. It's like purely moneyball.
- 58:52Speaker 1: It's like we're always going to play. If it's a
- 58:54Speaker 1: lefty pitching, we're batting, alrighty, it's a ready pitching, we're
- 58:56Speaker 1: bat left all right.
- 58:57Speaker 2: I got to go.
- 58:58Speaker 1: I will be on on the TV box, so I
- 59:00Speaker 1: have to go super Tuesdays. Spread the word. iHeart Spotify, Apple,
