- 2:16do that, I want to welcome in my guest host this week, making
- 2:20a return appearance on the show, the very lovely and talented singer songwriter.
- 2:23You'll see her opening up for Jody Messina at the regatta Monday night, Kate
- 2:27Boytech. How are you, dear, I'm wonderful. How are you?
- 2:30I am doing fine, Thanks for being here. You know I had Adam
- 2:31Harris from Mountain Stage on earlier this week to talk about his involvement with Regard
- 2:38and things of that nature. He made the statement that you were replacing me
- 2:42as the most famous person out of Logan County. Girl, you better recognize.
- 2:47And I think I'm gonna learn today, ain't. With all due respect,
- 2:52I think that Willie Acres and Landale Murphy and some others may have something
- 2:54more to say about that. I believe that Jack Damns. You know,
- 2:59there might be we may have some people we need to talk to first,
- 3:01but no, I appreciate that. That's pretty incredible. I'm gonna give full
- 3:07credits to that to my manager, Burke Allen and PR, my PR team.
- 3:10They've made me way more famous than I'm actually. We're gonna talk about
- 3:15your career. You've got some exciting things going on. Of course, as
- 3:17I said, you're opened up for Jody Messina Monday night at the Regard.
- 3:21We're gonna talk about that a little bit later, but puts you get to
- 3:23play ten questions when you're here. Before you didn't do ten questions, that's
- 3:25all. It's all new ten questions, ten totally random questions to learn more
- 3:30about you. So that's coming up a little bit later on. Let's get
- 3:32to Hannah Gardner from The Canal Charles you main association with this week's Adopt Me
- 3:37Please put of the Week. Hannah, good morning, How are you great?
- 3:40How are you? I am doing fine? Say hello to my co
- 3:43host, singer, songwriter and the second famous most slogan County. And there
- 3:46is Kate boy Tech. Sorry Kate, good morning. All right, Hannah
- 3:52is going to tell us the story of Poncho now again. As always,
- 3:54Pictures and descriptions are posted to Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and at Dave A
- 3:59seventy on Twitter. Tell us about Poncho Hannah. Yeah, so, um,
- 4:04Poncho is a male. Um. He is the cutest, cutest little
- 4:10boy ever. I mean he's not little, but um, he is a
- 4:14good sized dog. He is fixed already, so he um since he's a
- 4:18male, he's been neuter. He's ready to go home. He's got all
- 4:20his vaccinations. Um. And he definitely has UM. And he has an
- 4:28older boy personality because he is twelve, so he um na is just really
- 4:33laid back. He likes to hang out. He would be a good Stanley
- 4:36dog, I would say. Um, he has shown to do really kids
- 4:41friendly. Um. Anytime he's around kids. He doesn't seem to really mind
- 4:45much. UM. The only thing he does really mind and him. You
- 4:47know, he hasn't really like done anything to show us that he like hates
- 4:50it, but he definitely doesn't um encourage it, which is other really hyper
- 4:56playful dogs. He likes the more calm, more back dogs that are kind
- 5:01of like him, that can just chill on the couch watch some TV well,
- 5:05and we talk about that, Hannah. Anytime we have an older dog
- 5:09on. Older dogs are like older humans like I am, and they're just
- 5:11over everybody's stuff. You know, they're just calm down, just keep it
- 5:15quiet, get off my lawn and leave me alone. Would you agree with
- 5:17that exactly? Yep. He definitely would be a really good like sit out
- 5:24on the sports dog with you. But he definitely does have just a slight
- 5:29bit of separation anxiety, which I always tell people that just so that way
- 5:33they know going forward. But even then that doesn't mean anything bad on the
- 5:40dog. That just means you know that they've had some issues that they just
- 5:45needed to work through, and you can work through it with them. You
- 5:46can definitely work through training, you can work through like positive reinforcement, like
- 5:51different things like that. You can work with it, you can look it
- 5:54up. We even give resources on how to help with that going forward when
- 5:58you adopt. So he's like nothing crazy. He just has a little bit
- 6:01of anxiety when his owners leave and totally understandable. Um. But he is
- 6:06a catch potato and he walks really well on the leash. Um. I
- 6:11mean, he is older, so he doesn't really plan on running the round.
- 6:15He's very very good on the leash, and he would be good for
- 6:16even an older person too, or an older couple or something if they wanted
- 6:20just an older dog to give it a home. And he would be a
- 6:25great dog for a foster as well because he is so much older and he
- 6:29um was very very like Skinny and Moner so when he came into us.
- 6:31So even if it's not a permanent home for the rest of you know,
- 6:36his life, then a good foster home would be a great idea as well.
- 6:42And he's, like I said, he's a beautiful dog. And you
- 6:44can get day valid radio and Facebook or at day A seventy on Twitter.
- 6:46Take a look at the dog. Now. He was taken in from the
- 6:49cabin creak area, is that right? Yep? Uh? And he was
- 6:54I guess a stray or was her owner surrender? What was the dealing?
- 6:58He came in as a stray, So I believe he was found abandoned at
- 7:03a house. And I'm not sure you know, like exactly what the scenario
- 7:09was, but I didn't know that it was a I think it was an
- 7:14abandoned house and he was also abandoned there and the neighbors all around would feed
- 7:17him and stuff, but you know, where they couldn't always be there to
- 7:23feed him and stuff like that. He was very very scanny. He was
- 7:25very monurished when he came in. So we've been working with him. He's
- 7:29been with us since May twenty seventh. So he did go to foster there
- 7:32for just a minute. But they did say that, you know, he
- 7:38was really great in the foster home and that he was just a really overwhelm
- 7:42or overall really good dogs. So he is. He's really really good.
- 7:46He would just be good for a nice family or someone who wants to foster
- 7:49him out for you know, however long it may be, and they could
- 7:54always bring him back, or you know, if you just want to adopt
- 7:57him. He is twelve, so he he definitely needs a good house to
- 8:01live out, you know, however long he has. And he's so cute.
- 8:05I mean, I'm looking at his picture now and his eyes. You
- 8:07know, you can tell a lot about animals in their eyes, whether or
- 8:11not they're rowdy or hyper. And he just looks like an old soul.
- 8:16He does an old soul. I actually had him out on the leash with
- 8:20me yesterday and a bunch of volunteers were walking him and stuff, and everybody
- 8:24that walks him was just like, you know, I could just casually walk
- 8:28around and he'll walk with me. And he is fine walking slower, he's
- 8:33fine walking faster. He just does whatever you want. Basically, he's very,
- 8:37very good. And that's something that should not be taken for granted.
- 8:41I have an Irish doodle and he is wild. You can't take him anywhere,
- 8:45and he's not even that big. Yeah, I have something similar to
- 8:50that, as we've heard live on the air a couple of times on our
- 8:52dogs our cats get loose. Hey, Hannah, you'll appreciate this. I
- 8:56got a text here, and I think this is from the folks that remember
- 8:58Kruton is our our dog, the one that we got adopted about a year
- 9:01or so ago, And I'm going to presume that this is uh from them.
- 9:05It says, Poncho sounds a lot like he's a lot of characteristics of
- 9:09Kruton. Uh, he's going to joy to be with. I encourage people
- 9:11to adopt older dogs, no potty training. And this was the dog,
- 9:15okay, that we got adopted about a year or so ago, named Cruton.
- 9:18This dog is now has his own hashtag. It's Chronicles of Kruton and
- 9:22this family from Saint Albans took the dog in and they take it. They
- 9:26brought him to see me at the food Truck festival. H and Poncho has
- 9:30such a cool name that it could easily be hashtag Poncho. There you get
- 9:35always always marketing as she is. Um, some great news and I wanted
- 9:39to get to this out of hand before we let you go. I posted
- 9:41it on Dave Allen Radio. There's the animals now, uh Dave Allen Radio
- 9:45and Facebook. The animal with the longest tenure at the shelter, Pappy got
- 9:50adopted. And if you want to see pure joy, go to either my
- 9:54Facebook page, Dave Allen Radio or the shelters Facebook page. Watch the TikTok
- 10:00video that you all did with Pappy joining his new family. That was good
- 10:05stuff. Yes, Um, we all loved Happy as a shelter. We
- 10:09all have seen him through just everything. He's been there for so long.
- 10:16M he I think almost a year if I'm thinking right. Um, he
- 10:22definitely was due to go to a good home and he is a great dog.
- 10:26He just you know, he had some of his issues, but he
- 10:28was so so happy all the time, like we called him Happy Pappy.
- 10:33He was very very older dog too, and he got adopted. And again
- 10:37the videos posted on Dave Allen Radio and Facebook go watch period, was that
- 10:41you leading the dog out, Hannah, because it kind of looked like video
- 10:45and the dog was just losing his mind because he got a family and he
- 10:48was the oldest of the longest tenured uh dog, he had seniority there.
- 10:52That's a shelter. I want to talk quickly, Hannah about the Fourth of
- 10:54July and um, you know, don't get me started on the rudeness and
- 11:00complete uncarrying of some people when it comes to fireworks in residential neighborhoods. I'm
- 11:03talking about but animals and a lot of them don't do well around the Fourth
- 11:07that many go missing or completely just lose their their minds around this time.
- 11:11Any any advice that you could give to pet owners about how to handle their
- 11:18pets around the Fourth of July with the fireworks. Yes, even if your
- 11:22pet is like used to fireworks or whatever, I just honestly recommend just keeping
- 11:28them inside, keeping in secure, just we watch them, make sure that
- 11:33you know there's no well even watch around outside because you might even see some
- 11:37straight dogs running around that are scared and stuff like. Just check your home,
- 11:41make sure that they're doing okay. Make sure that if you do let
- 11:45your dog out or you take them with you that day or got night or
- 11:48something, make sure they have the correct identification tags on them. If they're
- 11:52not microchips, go get a microchip. It definitely is worth it, I
- 11:58promise, even if you think that and no, they are not GPS checkers.
- 12:01They are just something that your information goes on for if you earth the
- 12:05dog gets missing and it goes to a clinic or a shelter, we can
- 12:09always call you and say hey, we have your dog and then you can
- 12:11come and get it. It just makes it a lot easier. But if
- 12:15you lose your dog during this fourth of July, there's also a site that
- 12:18you can go to. It's called pet colovelost dot org and you can register
- 12:24your pet there if they go missing, and you can put photos, information,
- 12:28it asks the whole none works, So it's definitely something to consider if
- 12:33your pet does go missing. And then if they don't go missing, just
- 12:37please make sure you're watching them, make sure they're safe for that whole night.
- 12:41All right, Hannah's always it's a pleasure to talk to you. We
- 12:43will talk again soon. Thanks a lot, thank you too, Thank you
- 12:46all right, Handah Garden for the canal, trust you being association of our
- 12:48adopt meee please spat of the week. A couple of other things I want
- 12:50to mention animal related with all the problems with the smoke with the Canadian wildfires
- 12:56around here, which meteorologist Brian Hughes tells me we just got a little bit
- 13:00longer to go and it's all gonna dissipate you. If you have your out
- 13:03if your pets outdoors, you need to make sure they have extra water,
- 13:05you know, because pets can be affected by this smoke and stuff just as
- 13:09much as as humans can. Also, I understand that the shelter they are
- 13:11low on dog chow. So if you got some donations you'd like to make
- 13:16some dog cha other always need a dog chow, you go up there and
- 13:18make a donation to the naw Charst Humane Association. All right, so let's
- 13:22recap here. Kate Poncho the dog's name picture posted on at Dave A seventy
- 13:28on Twitter and also dave on on radio and Facebook. Older fellow twelve years
- 13:33old, very laid back, up to date on all of his vaccines,
- 13:35he's neutered, great on a leash, great with kids. Does have a
- 13:39little bit of separation anxiety. So maybe I was thinking, Kate, he
- 13:43might be really good for somebody who doesn't do a lot of running around,
- 13:46you know, like an older couple to older family. Really, all the
- 13:50training and the I guess the hard work, as people would say, with
- 13:54this dog has already completed. Yeah, so you're just I mean, you
- 13:58know, you're kind of getting my spirit animal if you adopted poncho dog.
- 14:01You know, he likes okay, he likes the couch, and he's laid
- 14:05back. Keep prefers calm dogs. I prefer calm people. He's older.
- 14:09I'm older. You know, I have separation anxiety, you know. But
- 14:13no, all jokes aside. He is a beautiful dog. And my sister
- 14:18actually she adopted a dog several years ago that has and suffers from separation anxiety.
- 14:24And you know, with the right with you, if you work with
- 14:26them and you spend time and focus, you know, it really kind of
- 14:30takes care of itself over time. So I wouldn't let that detour anyone from
- 14:35you know, adopting Poncho. Yeah and older. I mean, everybody wants
- 14:37a puppy. I can completely get that. But until they have a puppy,
- 14:41yeah, until they have a puppy, you're that's that's a very good
- 14:43point. But I think that use these you know, we use Crouton as
- 14:46an example. This has been a fantastic pet for these folks out of Saint
- 14:50Albans and I'm sure Poncho would too. So go get Poncho. That is
- 14:54your side. But five Dy Live is brought to part by your hometown baseball

- 17:10Hello. I'm Chuck McDowell, CEO and founder of Wesley Financial Group. Ten
- 17:15years ago I started helping folks canceled or timeshare and in the process started what's
- 17:18now called the timeshare cancelation industry. Timeshare is the only thing that you can
- 17:23buy that you can't tell me how much it's going to cost or when it's
- 17:26going to end. When you buy a timeshare, you give them a blank

- 18:55want to say that normally at this time we'd have Jim Strawn on to talk
- 18:56about Live on the Levee, but there is no on the levy this week
- 19:00or next h So jim will return in a couple of weeks. Uh,

- 19:18from the Regotta kicking off here in Charleston, and let's bring in uh Andy

- 19:26great, I'm great. And don't you worry that that levy is gonna be
- 19:30plenty live? Oh I'm sure it is. So. May have you moved
- 19:33that microphone around a little bit? Eddie? We're having Ryan Ryan? Does
- 19:37that sound okay because we're not here? Yeah, okay, there you go,
- 19:41there you go. Okay, all right, And I do want to
- 19:42mindy that this Regotta update is brought to you by its Lango Law, Charleston's
- 19:45personal injury law firm. Well, welcome to the show. Uh just a
- 19:49few hours away now. We started noon today. We'll go over the schedule
- 19:52here with everything just a bit. But it's an exciting time in Charleston,
- 19:56Eddie. Oh, it's fantastic. And actually we had sort of a soft
- 20:00start last night or yesterday afternoon. We you know, we are a charitable
- 20:04organization. Yeah, it's not just a big party. We are here to
- 20:07do things for the community as well. And yesterday we gave away fifty bicycles
- 20:14two young children in need over at started to say power go Mark Park.
- 20:21Yeah, and it was a very rewarding activity to be a part of that.
- 20:26But yep, today it all gets going. We've got the Kids Zone
- 20:32that'll be going the whole time down at Magic Highland. We've got the carnival,
- 20:36the Health Planned Kids Zone, the West Virginia International Yeager Airport Regatta Carnival
- 20:41that'll be on the boulevard, and of course all the fun and festivities and
- 20:45activities that are going on literally all around town. And a lot of folks,
- 20:49of course focus on the entertainment. And now that's Kate's part of that
- 20:55entertainment. But we got better than Ezra that'll be playing tonight. We've got
- 20:57flow Rider coming up. Cool in the gang. Every I mean everybody this

- 21:04on earlier. Andy, when you talk about cooling the game, it really
- 21:10goes and it transcends generations because those that were around in the early nineteen seventies,
- 21:15I was, I was a kid, but I was around in the
- 21:15early nineteen seventies. Cooling the Game comes out seventy two, seventy three,
- 21:19you know, with with with Jungle Boogie, and they continued through the disco
- 21:23era and of course everybody knows the iconic celebration. They continue with hits into
- 21:27the eighties and they continue out territory today. You're gonna have a hard time
- 21:30finding somebody that doesn't like cooling the gag, right, I mean, well,
- 21:34when when we saw that as an option, uh, we pretty much
- 21:38jumped at it because we knew that it was. We try to program entertainment
- 21:44that's going to cover a variety of genres, right, so that different people.
- 21:48I mean, I tell you who's going to be a big draw.
- 21:51It's flow right up. Yeah, that's gonna be huge from everything I've heard.
- 21:56Yeah, in the gang you know King, Yeah, I told my
- 22:00mama said I'm performing there at Goddess. She said, that's great. Um,
- 22:03when it's cooling the game, you know, well, that's that's one
- 22:07of our means. Your mother and I are the same age. And by
- 22:11the way, by the way, Mama is celebrating her birthday to day.
- 22:14It's her birthday, am all right? So yeah, yeah, happy birthday
- 22:18Mom. Three years old. She don't look a day over eighty. I
- 22:22can't believe it. She's fifty three today. She's uh, well, see
- 22:26she's got me beat my a couple of months. I'll be fifty three in
- 22:27September. But he's older and wilder. She's older, all right. So
- 22:32so let's get back to we'll talk about about we didn't mentioned Jody Messina.
- 22:36Who's gonna be playing on Monday night, And that's who Kate's gonna be open
- 22:37up for Jody Messina And we have a performance on the fourth of July two
- 22:45the Battle of the Bands. I want to mention also tonight's warm up band
- 22:49is a band called Crunch and their drummer is Dino Stanley. It's a band
- 22:55that he started when he was part of starting when he was at Ohio Verse
- 23:00many many years ago. They play occasionally that we know from right here in
- 23:06Yeah, from Philadelphia, Yeah, and lifelong Charlestony and so uh Yeah.
- 23:10You know, it's really nice that we've got this mixture of local activity acts
- 23:15that are going to be helping warm everyone up. Um, and then some
- 23:21pretty nice names as well. Absolutely, that's a beautiful thing that you have
- 23:25allowed the opportunity to be extended to local acts. I mean those are dreams
- 23:30come true. You're making dreams come true, you know, across the state
- 23:34having this regard to bike as a dream come true. I mean, you
- 23:37know, it has such a massive impact financially and just uh culturally and uh
- 23:45the psych of the community is raised with this activity. And we were,
- 23:52um, we last year exceeded our expectations and this year anchilely and and bodies.
- 24:00That's right. Yeah, and you know, I mean two hundred and
- 24:03some thousand people, thirty one and a half million dollars impact. Uh uh.
- 24:07I think we had like eight states that came in for it. The
- 24:12hotels are filled. I mean from the from the economic perspective, it's terrific.
- 24:18But I think from just the swag of Charleston, it feels good,
- 24:25you know what I'm saying. I mean, it just feels good. Yes,
- 24:27there's a it's I know our air is smoky, but here but there's
- 24:33a there's a good feeling in the air, and when you pull into Charleston,
- 24:36there's an exciting and like, oh my gosh. You know, for
- 24:40me, it's it's more of a grateful and gratitude feeling. But um and
- 24:45I you know, I think a lot of people, even if they're not
- 24:47performing or directly a part of our got it, are still very grateful that
- 24:51we have this in our community. Yeah, and you know, we've got
- 24:53ways for I mean, for example, a number of the athletic booster clubs
- 24:59at the various high schools are going to be selling beverage, whether it be
- 25:03beer or soft drinks, and they'll be able to make money for their boosters
- 25:07clubs off of the tips. There's just a lot of ways that we try
- 25:12to reach out and positively touch the community, not just by providing a big
- 25:18show and a lot of fun, but these other things too and many so
- 25:21many free things. Oh yeah, that's what I like about it. And
- 25:23that's one of the things that we talked about the organizers and talked to the
- 25:26mayor about when this whole idea was being floated around no pun intended about bringing
- 25:30Regatta back, was that there are so many free things that people can do
- 25:36and families. I mean in these tough economic times. Sound like a commercial
- 25:38now, but at these tough economic times, there are so many free activities
- 25:41that are gonna cost you anything just to come down to take any And you
- 25:45know, we've got some new things this year. We've got the Music Maker
- 25:51Saturday over at the main Library on Saturday afternoon. We have the Tutors Biscuit
- 26:00World hot dog eating contests on the fourth of July at five thirty. You
- 26:07got I bet your your weight. You can't wait to jump into that now,
- 26:10I said, I'm a foodie. I'm not a competitive foodie though.
- 26:12I like to eat for pleasure, not for not for sport. But but
- 26:17but it is going to be it is going to be a big event.
- 26:18And these are part of other similar festivities you know, around around the nation's
- 26:23Fourth of July. You know, nothing like a little glutting in the fourth
- 26:26of July and showing off what we do best here in West Virginia, you
- 26:30know, the terance. I'm gonna say this is one of the interesting One
- 26:33of the interesting things about these about these food contests, though, is that
- 26:37a lot of times you have people that come in from other states just to
- 26:41enter the contest. I am seed a hot dog eating contest. One didn't
- 26:44participate. I am seated. And the fellow that one was a fellow from
- 26:47Georgia that came in. That what he did, he had his work schedule
- 26:52worked out that he worked. Um, he was all Friday, Saturday and
- 26:55Sunday and during the summer. That was how he supplemented his income was by
- 27:00raveling and going and eating and entering these hot dog eatting Hey, you know
- 27:06what, everybody, everybody's got a plan, everybody's got everybody got a hustle.
- 27:10We're talking again with Andy Richardson about the regatta. Talk about what goes
- 27:15in in the two or three minutes we have left here. Andy, talk
- 27:17about all the logistics that go into putting this thing together. Because people come
- 27:22in to Charleston and they see, Okay, this carnival's going on here.
- 27:26We got this in this musical act here, and this food truck and how
- 27:30many food trucks we have this year? We have think forty I think forty
- 27:33some food trucks. But but but when you and Charleston is a large city
- 27:37by West Virginia standards, but it's a small city by standards of everywhere else
- 27:41as far as the area goes, where you can have these things. I
- 27:45mean, thank goodness, we do have the Boulevard in Charleston. I don't
- 27:47know what we would do without that, and the waterfront of course, but
- 27:49there's a lot that goes into that. Man to making sure that the that
- 27:52the ferris wheel gets set up, that we have the this truck that needs
- 27:56this generator, and the stage and the and the big screens. There's a
- 28:00lot of work goes into that. I was over at the boulevard yesterday and
- 28:03we were first of all, the last year we did not schedule, uh,
- 28:08what truck, what food truck comes at what time? This year we
- 28:12did because we have to do We knew we wanted to get Logistically, we
- 28:15wanted to get the trailers in, let the pickup trucks pull the trailers get
- 28:19away, then get the trucks that are actually food trucks in, and I
- 28:25mean just the logistics of making that happen and helping them get on and off
- 28:30the boulevard. What we will do what we did last year after the regatta,
- 28:37we at our board meeting in August, we began a punch list of
- 28:41Okay, what worked, what didn't, what do we need to do differently?
- 28:45And you know this is not something that in April we put together and
- 28:52roll out the regatta. This was a year round activity of the board and
- 28:59the folks from the city, uh that help us on this and volunteers.
- 29:04I mean, so you know, whether it be reaching out for acts,
- 29:10you know, you'd be surprised how difficult that is, because you know,
- 29:15you gotta you gotta meet your budget right because a free concert, it's not
- 29:19like we're gonna be making U money off of people buying tickets to come to
- 29:25the show. But we've got to h harmonize schedules, uh make sure,
- 29:30I mean, and we're we're a pretty attractive spot if a band is touring.
- 29:34You know, we're sort of between oh, Pittsburgh and Charlotte or Louisville
- 29:41get a lot of those. It's not a bad stop. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:45but we'll have um. In terms of the logistics, you know a
- 29:51lot of people don't understand why you close the street as early as we did.
- 29:55Then basically after the after the live oft the Levy last week, and
- 30:00we closed the boulevard and began closing the other streets on UM, I think
- 30:06Monday, the side streets. And but when you think about that Ferris Whee,
- 30:11yeah, you're just mentioning it or all those other carnival rides or you
- 30:15know, getting the stage assembled and put up and uh, and then we
- 30:21have to get extra generators for power down at the well first with the food
- 30:26trucks and folks like that, but also down at the levy itself. We've
- 30:30got thirty Stern wheelers coming in right. Wow. I mean it's it's incredible,
- 30:37that's and that's so and that's something I know that that Brian Hughes has
- 30:40done, you know, a and others. But you know, Brian having
- 30:44in the fact that he lives on one right, you know, uh,
- 30:47he's been a he's been a major helping getting Yeah, and I want us
- 30:49to lose sight. You know. Yeah, there's a lot of different things
- 30:52going on. It's a lot of fun. But you know this was was
- 30:56in its um heritage, a very significant rivertown and this was designed in the
- 31:03first place. You know, the vision of Nelson Jones back in the early
- 31:07seventies was to celebrate the stern wheelers and the and the culture of working on
- 31:14the river, right, and um, that's an important part of the Charleston
- 31:18heritage and I didn't want us to lose sight of that when we're celebrating.
- 31:22Uh when when in so many other ways? Yes, yeah, exactly right.
- 31:27Well, uh, you know it all starts, as I said,
- 31:30two hours in about twenty two minutes. Uh, and so many different things
- 31:33going on. Just go to the website. You know, the Regotta does
- 31:34a great job with their website. It's all over social media. We've gotten
- 31:37on our pages as well, so uh check it out. And it's also
- 31:41on case you gotta regretta, you gotta regart Andy. I appreciate you being
- 31:45here. Thanks, pleasure to be here anytime. Good luck with anything,
- 31:49with everything. Well thanks a couple of days. Okay, you too,

- 35:36I sent that during the break to the city and the response I got
- 35:40was, I've been told twenty five dollars for a carnival pass. That's like
- 35:44an all day pass kind of thing. If I'm saying that wrong, that's
- 35:47like an all day pass kind of thing. If I'm saying that wrong,
- 35:51somebody from the city get with me before the end of the show and we
- 35:52will correct it. But I think that is your answer, Kay boytech is

- 36:14Is this the biggest crowd that you played in front of people? I
- 36:16mean, I mean, to my knowl I mean, you know, I've
- 36:19not played Regatta before, but from what I'm told, yes, okay,
- 36:22so this is the biggest one. So nervous at all? Yes, well,
- 36:28I mean somebody told me one time, you know, the day that
- 36:30you don't get butterflies as a day you need to stop doing it. I
- 36:32agree, And you know, I think in part, I want so much
- 36:37for my intention behind why I do this for a living, to come through
- 36:39in every performance. So when you're magnifying your crowd, you know, you
- 36:45feel like that intention needs to be so much stronger to reach everyone. So
- 36:50I think that maybe that's where the nerves are coming from. And of course
- 36:52I just want to make sure I do a good job for everyone, and
- 36:54you know, let them leave their worries at home for the time they're with
- 36:58me and all that good talk about your beginnings. You know, you come
- 37:00from a very musical family. Your mother, who we referenced earlier, is
- 37:05um one of my one of my best friends from childhood. We literally played
- 37:07together when we were luar kids. Um. You know, she's a phenomenal
- 37:12singer in her own right. Your sister Jane performs with you on a regular
- 37:15basis. She is also a phenomenal talent. Um, You're a lot like
- 37:22me, except you actually do have talent. And what I had. What
- 37:24I mean by that is you grew up in a house that was filled with
- 37:27music. Is that right? Of all kinds? Of all kinds? Um?
- 37:30You know, there was everything from bluegrass to gospel to country music to
- 37:35everything eighties that you could possibly you know, pull out. And then late
- 37:37seventies, my mom made sure I was introduced to real good music, you
- 37:40know. And sometimes you need to be really interested to real bad music too.
- 37:45Sometimes, yes, and that's where my dad comes in. At what
- 37:51point did you, um know you wanted to do this as a career,
- 37:54Um, I think when you, I think, when you truly are connected
- 37:58with music in the way that I am, you kind of always know.
- 38:00But you're a child and you go through adolescence and you don't really know that,
- 38:04you know, it's just something that's in your subconscious. So in my
- 38:07early twenties, I realized this was something that I wanted to pursue as a
- 38:12career, but I had already established a family and right and now you and
- 38:15you've learned real quick that you can't just take off on your path to This
- 38:22is quite different than what a lot of people in the music industry take because
- 38:27you know, you played a lot when when you were younger around the Logan
- 38:30and surrounding areas, but your career, although you know, you were doing
- 38:35well with it and you were having fun with it, your career didn't really
- 38:37pick up like it has until the last couple of years because you were quite
- 38:42busy and we were singing when you cut at fairs and festivals and so on
- 38:45and so forth. But you were quite busy during that during the time leading
- 38:49up to this talk about them. Absolutely, you know, I realized very
- 38:52quickly in my early twenties that staying gone and being on the road like that
- 38:57was not going to suffice as far as I was concerned in the way that
- 39:00I wanted to be a mother, because I have a daughter, and at
- 39:04that time, I have two daughters now, but at that time only had
- 39:07my oldest, and so I took off and I directed a church choir for
- 39:12years and did that and just sang, you know, car concerts and in
- 39:15the shower and thank my daughter to sleep from all the all the greatest places,
- 39:19you know. And then after my divorce several years ago, I set
- 39:23my family down. And I have two daughters now, so that's twice as
- 39:27difficult for this career. So my mom was all on board, you know,
- 39:31like you said, she is about grunning music. So she understood where
- 39:35my heart was and my focus was, and she has fully supported me.
- 39:38She helps me with my girls so that I'm not away from them long periods
- 39:42at a time. And we just put the pedal to the floor and have
- 39:45been doing that now for about two years and it's just really skyrocketed since then.
- 39:50But it definitely takes a village. We're talking with Kay Boychech, singer
- 39:54songwriter extraordinaire. Fivety Life Present an a party by Meek's Realty Group by area's

- 40:07of the things I love about you A Kata is zero songwriter as well a
- 40:10deeply personal songwriter. You really pour your heart and soul into your lyrics and
- 40:16you write about real life stuff. Yeah. When I went to Nashville,
- 40:22my first producer I was working with, he said, what do you want
- 40:24to write about? Do you want to write? I sat down to write
- 40:27and he said, do you want to write about something you think could be
- 40:29on the radio, something fun? And I said, no, I want
- 40:31to write about something real. I want to write about it an experience that
- 40:35I went through. Music heals me. I want to share a healing experience
- 40:37so that hopefully other people can heal from that, you know, pay it
- 40:40forward type thing. And he said, where do you want to start?
- 40:44And I said at the beginning? He said where's that? And I said,
- 40:46well, I got knocked up the age of nineteen and he said,
- 40:50that's our first line. And that was the first song I wrote in Nashville.
- 40:52So the first line of the song was just so we're correct, was
- 40:57I got knocked up at the age of nineteen And that first line I knew
- 41:00that one in church, did you didn't? Well, I mean that's where
- 41:05you go to confess that's right, that's right. But you know, it's
- 41:07just, you know, I think you come to a point in your life
- 41:10where you decide what kind of person you want to be, and I just
- 41:15want to be authentic in every way, and songwriting is definitely the way I
- 41:19portrayed that the most. So I guess it's just because I'm fascinated with songwriting.
- 41:22Uh. And I've known songwriters Kate that locked themselves into a room and
- 41:28say I'm going to write, and writers in general, they could be you
- 41:30know, people doing magazine articles or novels. They say, all right,
- 41:34I'm going to write, and they sit down and write. Others keep a
- 41:37notepad or or you know, some sort of a device with them at all
- 41:39times that they see something when they stop at the grocery store, something that
- 41:44you know they're they're constantly writ it. Do you have a certain way that
- 41:47you approach songwriting? Is it a combination of all? Is it? How
- 41:51do you? How do you do it? Mine's kind of a combination.
- 41:53M But I definitely keep something with me at all times. But just because
- 41:57you never know what ideas on us. You know what, someone may say
- 42:00that what sparking I do within you, for example, and excuse me,
- 42:05I apologize for the roughness in my voice and get rid of that between now.
- 42:07You got between now and Monday to get rid of that now because you
- 42:10wake me up so dagon early. That's what it is. So, my
- 42:15daughter, this is just an example of how an idea can come from you
- 42:17know, anyone, at any time. My six year old daughter looked at
- 42:21me the other day before I was headed for another trip to Nashville. So
- 42:23I'm in the studio now recording some new stuff. She said, Mom,
- 42:28how long will you be gone this time? And I said not long baby,
- 42:30And she looked at me and said, well good, because I never
- 42:34want to miss you, So that's going to be able song. Wow,
- 42:37that's powerful stuff right there. Ever want to miss you? I never want
- 42:40to miss you, know So it's just moments like that, So you definitely
- 42:44always want to have something to where you can write down immediately if something like

- 49:00right, we got big news and Burke Allen is here. Who is your
- 49:04manager? He's also mine. He just doesn't tell people that he's my unpaid
- 49:07well you know, to be fair and paid agent. H But we uh.
- 49:13Over the last couple of months, you've been spent a lot of time
- 49:14in Charleston. You're the ambassador they call you, I think for the city
- 49:16of Charleston. But you've been working in Charleston, and you've been doing a
- 49:21little film project as we say, yes take it from there. Yes,
- 49:24So I've had the opportunity to shoot my very first music video in my home
- 49:29state and in Charleston, West Virginia. UM, I want to give a
- 49:31shout out real quick to the Convention and Visitors Bureau because they fully made that
- 49:36happen and we're super hands on and kind and um you know it just it
- 49:40was a dream of mine to shoot the video and an even bigger dream of
- 49:44mine to shoot it in my home state because again that goes right along with
- 49:46the authenticity of the song. So just felt it was shot in and around
- 49:51the Charleston area. Shout out to our Tim Morris, who I think helped
- 49:53you out a little bit. Jim Morris helped me out absolutely with Shaneley limousine
- 49:58service. Um, there was so many people from Taylor Books to write,
- 50:01you know, the people at Capital Market that really were just okay. So
- 50:05so we got the video recorded, break them, break them the big news
- 50:07here. Oh it's gonna be do you want to do it? Or should
- 50:09I do it? Very? Oh? Come on, this is your big
- 50:12day. Okay, it's gonna be premiered to day on CMT. How about
- 50:17that? And on top of the Dave So Sunday, she throws the first
- 50:22pitch out for the dirty Birds. They're gonna play Keates new video for Anywhere
- 50:25on the jumbo tron something yep. So I'm throwing the first pitch. You
- 50:29guys will that'll be hilarious, TikTok moments for everyone to make surely lathem the
- 50:34first pitch and the video on the jumbo So you got the national anthem,
- 50:37that's video and the and the song is anywhere, right, the song is
- 50:38anywhere? Tell story you told it when you were here before you may I
- 50:42you told it at one point, Tell the story about how you and that's
- 50:45the song you wrote, right, I did? Yep, I wat talking
- 50:46about writing the song as we close. I wrote the song with Kim McLean.
- 50:51She just wrote a book with Loretta Lynn, who now has passed that
- 50:53she's promoting. We sat down. I wanted to be authentic again and tell
- 50:58a true story that that's exactly what we did. This song was written on
- 51:01one of Lareda Land's guitars, So that's something that I really cherish and we'll
- 51:06carry with me always. And what was the inspiration for the song, Well,
- 51:09my divorce. It was written about the last day that I shared in
- 51:13the house with my ex husband and I got in the car and I drove
- 51:15through Charleston to clear my mind. And so this video is going to make
- 51:20its premiere on CMT. Now, as do we know a time or how
- 51:22does that? How does is it on the website? I'm kind of out
- 51:24of I'm old, I'm how out of the video? How the videos work?
- 51:27Now? Bert, you can't just watch them on MTV, right,
- 51:30So we're gonna get a text later today from CMT to tell us exactly when
- 51:35it's going to premiere, and then it'll blast out on all of Kate's social
- 51:37media platforms and on our website and you'll be able to go to CMT dot
- 51:40com and see it there. And first you'll see the video at the Dirty
