- 0:05Speaker 1: It's a very special app this week as we go
- 0:09Speaker 1: direct to La to get all the goss on the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Megan Fox machine gun Kelli engagement ladies and gentlemen, our
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hollywood correspondents, Polly, Oh my good, poorly tell us the latest.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Ah, I'm not going to reciprocate with an accent, because
- 0:28Speaker 2: my accent's are shit. Ouse.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Look at you over in La Live in the LifeStyle's.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Beautiful tan on me as well, don't you think?
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you just look like you've put a
- 0:38Speaker 1: bunch of soy sauce and a water pistol and gone nuts.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I've been eating incredibly unhealthily over here.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Have you gotten into the barbecue?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we did barbecue last night. I've had in and
- 0:51Speaker 2: out too many times, I hoped too many times. I
- 0:55Speaker 2: think you're gonna have to roll me onto the plane.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It'll be disgusting.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But anyway, Oh, is that the seven four seven you
- 1:02Speaker 1: quite enjoy flying as an engineer on his Instagram page
- 1:07Speaker 1: was the best post I've ever seen as an engineer.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's such an honor to be on this plane wearing
- 1:13Speaker 1: these sensible slacks. Love you. Here's a deal, right, So
- 1:23Speaker 1: Paul gets flown over there for I'm just going by
- 1:28Speaker 1: what I know so far for some sort of Bentley convention.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Give's the deal. You get flown over there first class.
- 1:35Speaker 1: We need to work on your fashion because you posted
- 1:40Speaker 1: this photo of yourself in first class as an engineer
- 1:43Speaker 1: on A seven four seven, I'm like, what is he doing?
- 1:48Speaker 2: What is he doing? I was meant to be going
- 1:53Speaker 2: over on a Dreamliner and they switched it out for
- 1:54Speaker 2: the A three eighty and I just love that plane,
- 1:56Speaker 2: so as an engineer, So yeah, it was fascinating.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah. You know what else is fascinating? Just when
- 2:03Speaker 1: you thought Rivers was going out of business. No, they're
- 2:05Speaker 1: not Paul's dress head to toe. Couldn't you have just
- 2:09Speaker 1: thrown on the Conics pj's or something.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You know what's funny. When I used to live in
- 2:15Speaker 2: a bit of a shitty area, I threw a set
- 2:18Speaker 2: of business class pajamas out and I went down to
- 2:22Speaker 2: our shops like the three or four days after, and
- 2:25Speaker 2: there was a dude sitting there like begging for money,
- 2:28Speaker 2: wearing the Quantus pajamas that I threw in our bin.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And then you bent down as if you were going
- 2:36Speaker 1: to give him money, and you just whispered, give those back.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Now, I just took the shirt off that. Thanks.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You ripped the pants and shirt off him in front
- 2:46Speaker 1: of everybody.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I will say, though, So I've been over here driving
- 2:53Speaker 2: the Bentley Flying Spur hybrid. So here in the States
- 2:57Speaker 2: there's huge incentives, especially in California, for hybrids and electric vehicles,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and Bentley sells an incredible amount of Continentals and Flying
- 3:07Speaker 2: Spurs here, especially in California. Now that they're bringing the
- 3:10Speaker 2: hybrid version out. It's a plug in hybrid, which means
- 3:13Speaker 2: you've got a little over forty kilometers of driving range,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and it's like the epitome of luxury. So it really
- 3:20Speaker 2: blends in beautifully down here, and it's just the weirdest dichotomies.
- 3:24Speaker 2: We were staying in Beverly Hills and you'll drive a
- 3:29Speaker 2: little out of Beverly Hills and you'll pull up to
- 3:31Speaker 2: an intersection where and homelessness is out of control in
- 3:35Speaker 2: Los Angeles at the moment after the pandemic. You'll pull
- 3:38Speaker 2: up to an intersection where you'll have someone begging for money.
- 3:41Speaker 2: They'll have a cardboard cut out with something written on it,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and at the traffic lights there will be like a
- 3:47Speaker 2: may Bark, a G sixty three wagon Ferrari, and it's like,
- 3:53Speaker 2: this is just so wrong that you've got a dude
- 3:56Speaker 2: asking for money and then you're in this area where
- 4:00Speaker 2: someone's driving around in a three or four hundred thousand
- 4:02Speaker 2: dollars you may buck. It's it is just the weirdest
- 4:06Speaker 2: thing in the world. And I think this is probably
- 4:07Speaker 2: like the only place in the world where that happens,
- 4:09Speaker 2: where you've got the two extremes of poverty and then
- 4:12Speaker 2: just just wealth. It's just so bizarre.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got friends living over there and they've never
- 4:19Speaker 1: seen the divide so big. I can't remember the name
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the street, but you drive for miles and it's
- 4:24Speaker 1: literally tense city ten after ten after ten.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yes, skid rows. It used to just be one street
- 4:31Speaker 2: in sort of the Los Angeles downtown area that's now
- 4:35Speaker 2: become blocks of tents. Now under pretty much every overpass
- 4:40Speaker 2: you'll see tent city set up. And I've been coming
- 4:42Speaker 2: to the States for two or three times a year
- 4:45Speaker 2: for the past five ten years, and I've never seen
- 4:48Speaker 2: it this bad. So it is really sad to see.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And I know this is a car podcast, but yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 2: it is really sad to see. It makes you feel
- 4:56Speaker 2: shit driving around in a Bentley that's worth like seven
- 4:59Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars. You pull up at the lights and
- 5:01Speaker 2: there's some bloke there that that hasn't eaten for a week,
- 5:05Speaker 2: begging for money, and it's just a I don't know.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I'm sure you get used to it living here, but
- 5:09Speaker 2: to me, it was just a real odd feeling. It
- 5:12Speaker 2: just makes you feel really strange about yourself.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You did tell me that you got over that after
- 5:16Speaker 1: half an hour as you scoffed down a lobster and
- 5:22Speaker 1: cavia role.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Well, this is this is how ridiculous it is. Like
- 5:25Speaker 2: we I needed to get some money out and I
- 5:29Speaker 2: had this money. It was just this nightmare of a
- 5:31Speaker 2: thing getting money out. And anyway, I said to the
- 5:33Speaker 2: hotel concierge, can you just tell me where I can
- 5:35Speaker 2: get money out? And he's like, oh, at the right aid,
- 5:37Speaker 2: they've got like a money order facility, and he goes,
- 5:40Speaker 2: do you need a lift there? And I said, oh, look,
- 5:41Speaker 2: that would be amazing. So he says, I'll get our
- 5:43Speaker 2: driver to give you a lift, and he pulls up
- 5:45Speaker 2: out the front in a rolls Royce ghost and I
- 5:47Speaker 2: said oh god, Okay, So I jump in the back
- 5:50Speaker 2: and he pulls up at the front of the pharmacy
- 5:52Speaker 2: and I get out rolls Royce to get into the sea.
- 5:57Speaker 1: It's just like a roll of homeless people to yourself,
- 6:00Speaker 1: gold plated condoms, anybody. Wow?
- 6:06Speaker 2: So yeah, look look bet Bentley Flying Spur hybrid. Awesome car.
- 6:10Speaker 2: The thing I love about it it's got such a
- 6:13Speaker 2: clever system. And I don't know why more plug in
- 6:15Speaker 2: hybrids don't use this, but it has a hybrid mode
- 6:18Speaker 2: and it interacts with the GPS and if you set
- 6:21Speaker 2: a location that's you know, five hundred kilometers away or
- 6:24Speaker 2: even one hundred and fifty one whatever distance away, what
- 6:27Speaker 2: the car is able to do is look at the
- 6:29Speaker 2: topography of the route. So for us, we did a
- 6:32Speaker 2: drive sort of in through some canyons and down toward Ventura.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And what the car was able to do is in
- 6:38Speaker 2: situations where it was more efficient to run on the
- 6:40Speaker 2: electric motor, it would do that, and then in downhill
- 6:43Speaker 2: it would switch the internal combustion engine off and then
- 6:46Speaker 2: recharge the battery while it was going downhill using region
- 6:49Speaker 2: And the end result is you arrive at your destination
- 6:52Speaker 2: with no battery left because you've used the most efficient
- 6:55Speaker 2: form of internal combustion engine plus EV drive train to
- 6:58Speaker 2: get there. I thought that is a really cool implementation
- 7:02Speaker 2: of this technology, which kind of makes sense in a
- 7:04Speaker 2: vehicle like this.
- 7:05Speaker 1: That is pretty cool. And so when you start, does
- 7:08Speaker 1: that mean effectively you're running on no you're running on
- 7:11Speaker 1: no juice.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so when you start, the idea is that you
- 7:14Speaker 2: fill the battery completely. And what Bentley was saying is
- 7:17Speaker 2: that of their owners, something like seventy percent of owners
- 7:21Speaker 2: had an EV of some sort, so whether it was
- 7:23Speaker 2: a plug in hybrid Bentley or a Tesla or just
- 7:26Speaker 2: any other EV. And of those people, ninety seven percent
- 7:31Speaker 2: had charging at home. So these are people that have houses.
- 7:33Speaker 2: They're obviously not living in a terrace in Sydney or
- 7:36Speaker 2: something like that. They've got houses and charging infrastructure. So
- 7:38Speaker 2: a lot of these people will charge when they get home,
- 7:40Speaker 2: and they will drive to their destination, which is generally
- 7:43Speaker 2: not very far away, and it'll be all on electric.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You might be switching the engine on. So it's just
- 7:48Speaker 2: a really fascinating setup and I think that they've done
- 7:51Speaker 2: a good job there in terms of just making it
- 7:53Speaker 2: all work.
- 7:53Speaker 1: You know, once you get to this sort of elite
- 7:55Speaker 1: level of cars, I find that they have their own
- 7:59Speaker 1: languide in terms of Larks, in terms of.
- 8:02Speaker 2: How they drive.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You know, they say nothing drives like a Bentley, Nothing
- 8:06Speaker 1: drives like a Rolls. How's the transition been from say,
- 8:10Speaker 1: internal combustion Bentley to hybrid you know what I mean? Like,
- 8:13Speaker 1: does it still feel like a Bentley?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Look Bentley. Bentley's interesting because they don't want to be
- 8:19Speaker 2: Rolls Royce, and when you think Rolls Royce you kind
- 8:21Speaker 2: of think old person. Bentley is really targeting a younger market,
- 8:25Speaker 2: a broader spread of people, to the point where you
- 8:28Speaker 2: have fifty nine billion combinations of colors, interior specs, trims,
- 8:34Speaker 2: you know, anything you want you can customize on the car,
- 8:38Speaker 2: and it means that you can really personalize this and
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's unlikely that you'll ever see another Bentley on the
- 8:44Speaker 2: road that's configured the exact same as yours. And they've
- 8:46Speaker 2: gone down the path with the cabins of just really
- 8:49Speaker 2: going to town on luxury and making you feel good
- 8:51Speaker 2: whether you're sitting in the front or the back. They've
- 8:53Speaker 2: now also gone down the path of eliminating leather. If
- 8:56Speaker 2: you don't want it, so you can get a full
- 8:57Speaker 2: vegan interior. So yeah, they really have thought about everything here.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And I think that Rolls Royce should be worried because
- 9:04Speaker 2: Bentley really is now coming with cars that are as
- 9:07Speaker 2: luxury as, if not more luxuriers, but just have a
- 9:10Speaker 2: different vibe and image to them.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon Rolls was a bit slow to the
- 9:13Speaker 1: party with that sort of stuff. I heard this really
- 9:16Speaker 1: cool story. I don't know if it's true, but pretty
- 9:18Speaker 1: much the head the CEO of Rolls Royce was walking
- 9:21Speaker 1: into a cafe and saw Rolls out the front with
- 9:24Speaker 1: a black grill, black Spirit of Ecstasy, you know, maybe
- 9:29Speaker 1: a Matt Finish and stuff like that, and he said, wow,
- 9:31Speaker 1: how did you get that? Looks fantastic. How did you
- 9:33Speaker 1: get this sort of car? And he said, oh, Rolls
- 9:36Speaker 1: Royce doesn't do it. This driver obviously had no idea
- 9:40Speaker 1: who the guy was. Rolls Royce doesn't do it. So
- 9:43Speaker 1: I went out about and saw about getting it myself.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And that's pretty much apparently the backstory to how the
- 9:49Speaker 1: Black Edition.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Came out interesting because they hang their hat on that
- 9:53Speaker 2: basically blacking out all the highlights and just really sort
- 9:56Speaker 2: of murdering the thing out, and they have to do
- 9:59Speaker 2: that because the mographic of their buyers just wants something
- 10:02Speaker 2: that's different, but wants everyone to know that it's a
- 10:03Speaker 2: Rolls Royce and if you don't give them the option
- 10:06Speaker 2: of configuring that, you're just never going to sell them
- 10:09Speaker 2: a car. They'll just go to go and buy Bentley instead.
- 10:11Speaker 1: There's some amazing roles out there, like now that you can.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They have allowed a lot of customizable options and stuff
- 10:17Speaker 1: like that. There was a black one for sale in
- 10:19Speaker 1: Sydney and it was sort of like a gun metal
- 10:21Speaker 1: gray there. It was a black addition convertible, completely bright
- 10:26Speaker 1: orange interior and they had this line on the outside
- 10:31Speaker 1: of the car that was matching the interior, so this
- 10:34Speaker 1: kind of hand painted orange line on the outside. I
- 10:37Speaker 1: think they valued it. It was up for sale for
- 10:39Speaker 1: just on a million bucks and I'm just like, wow,
- 10:42Speaker 1: what a what an insane car? I can't see. I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 1: to me, that's you wouldn't see an old person driving
- 10:49Speaker 1: that sort of car. I mean that would be that
- 10:51Speaker 1: would be your wrapper or whoever. But yeah, very cool,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I like Paul from Yeah, but yeah, hey we should
- 11:01Speaker 1: talk before we talk. I twenty n we should talk
- 11:05Speaker 1: a quick bit of car news actually before you before
- 11:08Speaker 1: we proceed. Is there anything really interesting that you've seen
- 11:10Speaker 1: over there apart from homeless people.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Oh my god, I've just seen so much random stuff
- 11:15Speaker 2: over here. So I'm driving at the moment outside of
- 11:18Speaker 2: the Bentley stuff. The update at F one fifty. Yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 2: and god, this thing is just a technological masterpiece. And
- 11:26Speaker 2: head to my instagram if you want to just see
- 11:28Speaker 2: some of the random stuff that it does. But they've
- 11:30Speaker 2: got like a seat that will fold completely flat, so
- 11:33Speaker 2: you can technically sleep in it if you want to.
- 11:36Speaker 2: The gearstick is electric and it moves out of the
- 11:38Speaker 2: way so that you can set up a work bench.
- 11:41Speaker 2: It even has an onboard generator that allows you to
- 11:43Speaker 2: run seven point two kilo wots of energy out the
- 11:45Speaker 2: back of it. These things are absolutely remarkable. They're not
- 11:49Speaker 2: just a standard work sit anymore.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I saw that, and what I loved about it was
- 11:53Speaker 1: they're doing stuff that you just don't see in workites
- 11:56Speaker 1: and they've really thought about it. Like the load on
- 11:59Speaker 1: the of the tray there, Yes, the tech will tell
- 12:03Speaker 1: you how much you're loading in and same with the
- 12:06Speaker 1: tail lights.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got like four LEDs on the tail lights
- 12:10Speaker 2: and as you put more weight in, it just comes
- 12:12Speaker 2: up and tells you when you're at your limit. I
- 12:13Speaker 2: mean it's so cool, and you know, I just think
- 12:18Speaker 2: it's just a really interesting vehicle and you can see
- 12:20Speaker 2: why it's the best selling vehicle in the US, like
- 12:22Speaker 2: it's for a long time running. They've sold like a
- 12:25Speaker 2: million of these a year.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we used to have one as a family, and
- 12:28Speaker 1: I mean, obviously they've come a long way. But god,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I hope they really bring the new one out to
- 12:33Speaker 1: us because it looks sensational.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, And just in terms of other stuff, Yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 2: the driving here is just crazy. The speed people drive
- 12:43Speaker 2: is just absolutely ridiculous. So it's just interesting to see
- 12:46Speaker 2: how little enforcement there is when you've got such a
- 12:47Speaker 2: big volume of drivers on the road. It's impossible for
- 12:50Speaker 2: them to enforce really anything. And some of the stuff
- 12:54Speaker 2: they drive on the road as crazy as well. Like
- 12:56Speaker 2: I took a picture of this van that was literally
- 12:58Speaker 2: like a meter and a half two meters off the
- 13:00Speaker 2: ground and I don't even know how you'd get into
- 13:02Speaker 2: this thing, And it's just stuff like that you would
- 13:05Speaker 2: never be allowed to drive on the road in Australia.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty cool, Pretty cool. Hey, some big news, kind
- 13:11Speaker 1: of some interesting news hitting as this week, which was
- 13:14Speaker 1: the Porsche ty Can outselling their infamous iconic nine to eleven.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Which did that surprise you? It surprised me.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it surprised me as well, like I know that
- 13:26Speaker 2: they've sold a lot of Tycons, especially in Australia. In
- 13:28Speaker 2: Australia it was the third best selling EV in the
- 13:32Speaker 2: country and that was behind the Tesla Model three and
- 13:34Speaker 2: the MGSS. Here in La, you see so many Tycons,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and a lot of them are the turbo Wes just
- 13:40Speaker 2: literally the most money you can spend on one. But globally,
- 13:43Speaker 2: Porsche sold just under forty thousand nine to eleven's the ty
- 13:49Speaker 2: Can out sold it at forty two, just under forty
- 13:51Speaker 2: two thousand Tycans in total. So that's a big bit
- 13:55Speaker 2: of news for Porsche because it's it's just signaling change.
- 13:59Speaker 2: We know the new mccahn will be full electric, and
- 14:01Speaker 2: down the track we'll see Boxer and Canan go electric
- 14:04Speaker 2: as well. Obviously, McCann and Cayenne are still the best
- 14:07Speaker 2: selling Porsche models because they're SUVs. But when Porsche does
- 14:10Speaker 2: an electric suv, I reckon this is going to blow
- 14:15Speaker 2: stuff like a Tesla model way out of the water. Yes,
- 14:17Speaker 2: it will be more expensive, but it means that you
- 14:18Speaker 2: can have a Porsche brand a vehicle that is that
- 14:22Speaker 2: is EV powered.
- 14:23Speaker 1: You know, when the McCann and the kN entered the scene,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I remember there was such an uproar, but in hindsight
- 14:30Speaker 1: they were the vehicles that essentially saved Porsche. This is
- 14:34Speaker 1: really going to change the game once again. This is
- 14:37Speaker 1: an important car for them and I think it's going
- 14:39Speaker 1: to take them to new places. I mean, and we're
- 14:41Speaker 1: looking at early days for this car really too, and
- 14:44Speaker 1: only big things can come from now, you know what
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. I'm excited to see what it
- 14:49Speaker 2: brings because the Tykon was good, fun to drive, and
- 14:51Speaker 2: I think that if they can translate that to McCann
- 14:53Speaker 2: as well, that it would be cool. The one thing
- 14:55Speaker 2: that Bentley's working on is by twenty twenty five they
- 14:58Speaker 2: will have their first EV out and that EV will
- 15:01Speaker 2: sit on a brand new platform that I suspect the
- 15:03Speaker 2: ty Can will eventually go to. So car companies are
- 15:06Speaker 2: now building EV only platforms and I think once that
- 15:09Speaker 2: starts happening, and they're not sort of hybrid platforms with
- 15:12Speaker 2: internal combustion cars. Once that starts happening, we'll see we'll
- 15:16Speaker 2: see a real diversification of the cars you can buy
- 15:18Speaker 2: and how good they are. I think that they will
- 15:20Speaker 2: simply go to the next level when these guys really
- 15:22Speaker 2: get stuck into building EV specific platforms.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Do you reckon that Bentley's going to keep a petrol car?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Well, they've said that the V sorry, the W twelve
- 15:32Speaker 2: will exist up until they kill they kill the internal
- 15:35Speaker 2: combustion engine, which is twenty thirty, but it will see
- 15:40Speaker 2: transitions within all of their models, will see transitions towards
- 15:43Speaker 2: plug in hybrid and then eventually full electric, and then
- 15:47Speaker 2: it'll be the end. I mean that there's just no
- 15:49Speaker 2: space for this in regulations in Europe, and that's where
- 15:53Speaker 2: they sell a lot of these cars. So the second
- 15:55Speaker 2: you cut them off at the feet there, it'll just
- 15:57Speaker 2: be EV only.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Hey, so should we talk twenty Yeah, let's do it.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 16:02Speaker 3: The twenty twenty two Hyundai I twenty in this pocket
- 16:06Speaker 3: rocket only comes in a manual transmission and you can
- 16:09Speaker 3: drive it away for just over thirty six thousand dollars,
- 16:12Speaker 3: preferably fast.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I got a week with the car that I have
- 16:15Speaker 1: been looking forward to for a while. I finally got
- 16:19Speaker 1: in one.
- 16:20Speaker 2: What did you think of I think, Oh, well, no, no,
- 16:22Speaker 2: I'll go crazy. Look beauty.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Okay, do you know My first impressions of this car
- 16:29Speaker 1: was sheese, it's been a while since I've driven a
- 16:32Speaker 1: stick shift like it has been a while. It has
- 16:36Speaker 1: been a hot minute. And yeah, I missed it driving
- 16:39Speaker 1: in in full on, busy Sydney traffic in this thing.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Oh geez. It was different, and I gotta be honest,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I didn't enjoy it that much. But yeah, look I
- 16:50Speaker 1: took I took it for a proper rip around and
- 16:54Speaker 1: it probably nearly killed me a few times. But I think,
- 16:57Speaker 1: all up, this was a small bag of fun. This car.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It's interesting because it's comp is what the Apolo GTI
- 17:04Speaker 1: the yeah for fes st. I was going to say,
- 17:09Speaker 1: the Toyota G a Yaris.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Can you compare technically it is?
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah? Can you compare a four wheel drive to a
- 17:15Speaker 1: two wheel drive? I think you definitely can.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, I mean technically it is. It is significantly
- 17:20Speaker 2: more expensive, but I mean they sit within the same
- 17:22Speaker 2: segment in terms of size and comparatively doing what they do,
- 17:27Speaker 2: which is being an entry level hot hatch.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Look, I'm gonna say I loved it. Here's the thing
- 17:33Speaker 1: you look on the outside. It's brilliant what Yanda are
- 17:36Speaker 1: doing with their design language. I'm all about that. The folds,
- 17:39Speaker 1: the creases, the sort of I don't know, origami. Feel
- 17:43Speaker 1: about it if you like very cool eighteen inch black alloys.
- 17:48Speaker 1: The red brake calipers look very cool. They totally pop,
- 17:52Speaker 1: very body, very strong. You know, it's weird in photos.
- 17:55Speaker 1: The exhaust doesn't look that big, but Jesus, when you're
- 17:58Speaker 1: behind that car, decent. It is decent and it sounds brilliant,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and it's my favorite part of the car, which we'll
- 18:05Speaker 1: talk about more in a second. But interior is interior
- 18:09Speaker 1: is an interesting one because I think at first glance,
- 18:12Speaker 1: it is very simple. The seats are comfortable, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: they've got enough support. They're plastic y. Parts of it
- 18:20Speaker 1: I thought were a bit cheap. It looks good, but
- 18:23Speaker 1: it's kind of there's a lot of sort of plasticly
- 18:27Speaker 1: tough scratch.
- 18:29Speaker 2: The interior looks really cheap, like it's good that they
- 18:32Speaker 2: have the two twelve point five or two point two
- 18:34Speaker 2: inch screens. But yeah, the rest of it is just
- 18:38Speaker 2: this nasty plastic from top to bottom. And you know,
- 18:41Speaker 2: it is thirty two four ninety plus on costs, and
- 18:45Speaker 2: it's like, guys, let's make this not look as as
- 18:48Speaker 2: cheap and cheerful as it actually is.
- 18:50Speaker 1: The razzle dazzle is definitely in the tech in this car,
- 18:52Speaker 1: like the steering wheel, and yeah, the screens for sure.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I kind of thought to myself, you know what, I'd
- 18:58Speaker 1: probably throw an extra couple of grand down if they
- 19:01Speaker 1: boogied up the interior a little bit, you know, got
- 19:03Speaker 1: rid of those much the exterior, right, yeah, you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and gave it some real kick. I think the I
- 19:10Speaker 1: thirty End Sedan or the I thirty Sedan End, which
- 19:13Speaker 1: we'll talk about in a future a the seats are
- 19:17Speaker 1: probably better in that, you know, with the illuminated n
- 19:19Speaker 1: and stuff like that. I just kind of thought, yeah, look,
- 19:21Speaker 1: it's a very simple, striped back interior. Great. The wow
- 19:26Speaker 1: factor is definitely obviously in the tuning and the tech
- 19:29Speaker 1: and all that sort of stuff. But what were your
- 19:32Speaker 1: first impressions before we talk driving?
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, look, I reviewed it at the same time
- 19:37Speaker 2: as the ConA End. So we had it at the
- 19:38Speaker 2: proving ground and yeah, look, I think that I did
- 19:43Speaker 2: enjoy it because it weighs twelve hundred kilos, it makes
- 19:46Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty kiloots of power two seventy five
- 19:48Speaker 2: new meters, so it is it is a hoot in
- 19:50Speaker 2: terms of those figures. It actually uses a similar engine
- 19:53Speaker 2: to the end line version of the I thirty. They
- 19:56Speaker 2: just have different turbo charges setup and different suspension compared
- 20:00Speaker 2: to the normal Eye twenty, it sits lower as well.
- 20:03Speaker 2: We of course don't get the normal Eye twenty in Australia,
- 20:05Speaker 2: so this is the performance version. It's got a limited
- 20:08Speaker 2: slip differential front, which is good news if you're into
- 20:10Speaker 2: your type fun cornering. What I found with this is
- 20:13Speaker 2: that you can drive it very quickly, and it's surprising
- 20:16Speaker 2: for such a tiny little car how quickly it moves along.
- 20:19Speaker 2: And it's really comfortable in and around the city too.
- 20:21Speaker 2: With the ConA end it is extremely firm, whereas this
- 20:23Speaker 2: has that good balance. Ultimately, though yeah, I was disappointed
- 20:27Speaker 2: by that interior. I did love the fact with launch
- 20:30Speaker 2: control you can customize the RPM that it launches from,
- 20:34Speaker 2: and I just went straight to the maximum five thousand
- 20:37Speaker 2: rpm and you literally just dump the clutch and the
- 20:39Speaker 2: thing just does this, and the thing does this enormous burnout.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It's just a really really cool setup, even the fact
- 20:46Speaker 2: that you're getting a little bit more bump on overboost
- 20:48Speaker 2: as well. So look from a handling perspective, it's really nice.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I think you can do with more sound outside. The
- 20:56Speaker 2: sound inside I think is fake through the speakers, but
- 20:59Speaker 2: the sound outside I think could just be a little louder,
- 21:01Speaker 2: especially when you compare it to things like the I
- 21:02Speaker 2: thirty N and the ConA and have cracks and pops
- 21:05Speaker 2: and all the emotion. For me, it came down to this.
- 21:08Speaker 2: So I found the Ford Fiesta st a little bit
- 21:12Speaker 2: more raw and just exciting to drive. And then you've
- 21:16Speaker 2: got the Polo GTI, which is the perfect daily because
- 21:19Speaker 2: you can get it in a duel clutch automatic as well.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So this kind of splits the difference between the two,
- 21:25Speaker 2: and I think that it sits in a good little
- 21:26Speaker 2: middle ground. Yeah, I just a lot of people raved
- 21:30Speaker 2: and raved and raved about it. I just I thought
- 21:32Speaker 2: it was fun, but yeah, I just didn't feel that
- 21:37Speaker 2: it had the sort of nice daily feel that the
- 21:39Speaker 2: Polo GTI has. And then equally, it wasn't as sort
- 21:42Speaker 2: of raw and crazy as the Fiesta st was, So
- 21:45Speaker 2: I was kind of in that sort of middle space.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm glad I'm not alone on this one because
- 21:49Speaker 1: I was pretty similar. I feel like in terms of
- 21:52Speaker 1: the drive with this six speed manual, it's got a
- 21:55Speaker 1: lot of grunt to it. It's direct. There is refinement,
- 21:59Speaker 1: probably not much as say maybe the Toyota gi Arris,
- 22:05Speaker 1: but or a Polo for instance. You know, it's direct.
- 22:10Speaker 2: It is very direct. That's a good way to put it.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Yeah. The problem I have is would I want to
- 22:15Speaker 1: drive this as a daily No. I think if you're
- 22:19Speaker 1: gonna buy this car, you need to one live in
- 22:22Speaker 1: an area where you're able to chew up some road
- 22:25Speaker 1: every single day, and two, I reckon you're going to
- 22:28Speaker 1: need to be able to track it. I don't think
- 22:29Speaker 1: there's any point in owning this car if you if
- 22:31Speaker 1: you're not gonna bother tracking it. Because it's got amazing tech,
- 22:34Speaker 1: it's got it's got like tracks set in there so
- 22:36Speaker 1: you can obviously set times and you know, do all
- 22:39Speaker 1: sorts of things. There is no point in owning this car.
- 22:42Speaker 1: If you're not going to have fun with it, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: there is no point if you are going to be
- 22:46Speaker 1: sitting in bumper to bumper traffic every day, you won't
- 22:50Speaker 1: enjoy it. It would be uncomfortable. I don't know. I
- 22:52Speaker 1: kind of like to have a coffee on the way
- 22:55Speaker 1: to work and if you're stuck between first and second
- 22:57Speaker 1: for thirty forty minutes, it's just a pain in the ass.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. I think that's the that's the
- 23:03Speaker 2: point of difference here. But it's just not quite the
- 23:05Speaker 2: daily and I think if it's a weekend car for
- 23:07Speaker 2: you and you're really sort of going to enjoy track
- 23:09Speaker 2: driving as well, fair enough. But if you're not, I
- 23:12Speaker 2: just I think there are better options out there. So
- 23:15Speaker 2: it did get a lot of rave reviews, and certainly
- 23:17Speaker 2: on the track it's good fun. But yeah, if you're
- 23:20Speaker 2: going to be doing it daily and track driving, I
- 23:22Speaker 2: think it is just worth perhaps looking at other options
- 23:24Speaker 2: as well.
- 23:25Speaker 1: So that was I twenty end. That was fun. That
- 23:27Speaker 1: was a good car. I'd like to know what our
- 23:31Speaker 1: listeners think we should review next. I think we should
- 23:33Speaker 1: throw it over to the.
- 23:34Speaker 2: People, Yes, definitely, Yeah, let us know what you think.
- 23:37Speaker 2: What would you like to know more about and we'll
- 23:41Speaker 2: see what we can conjure up.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to say whose doors I can kick
- 23:45Speaker 1: down and still still.
- 23:47Speaker 2: There and get arrested?
- 23:48Speaker 1: Still their keys? Yeah, so far what we've done is
- 23:51Speaker 1: is kind what we're picking cars I feel like are interesting,
- 23:56Speaker 1: the Ionic five, the I twenty n lan Cruise, the
- 24:00Speaker 1: three hundred was kind of a big fan boy car,
- 24:02Speaker 1: so we went with yart. But do you want us
- 24:04Speaker 1: to go more exotic? Do you want us to go
- 24:07Speaker 1: more plain? Jane? We could do a key sportage if
- 24:11Speaker 1: you want. Oh, kid eating six would.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Be fun, Yes, definitely with the Australian open around the corner.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I think that would be very fun.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's going on right now. That'll reach you
- 24:20Speaker 1: because you're in LA. That'll reach you in about two
- 24:22Speaker 1: weeks time. There's a delay.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Well, let us know contact at the Drive show dot
- 24:27Speaker 2: com today. You send us an email, let us know
- 24:29Speaker 2: your thoughts about the show as well. What else do
- 24:31Speaker 2: you want to hear outside of which car to review?
- 24:34Speaker 2: We're always keen for your feedback.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and what Rivers products Paul should be wearing next?
- 24:41Speaker 1: Maybe the shirt with eight pockets that would be good,
- 24:44Speaker 1: maybe the slacks that he wore on his seven four seven,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know, as a as a professional, also subscribe.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Right, yes, well, the subscribe and make sure you leave
- 24:54Speaker 2: us a rating, because by doing those two things, you're
- 24:56Speaker 2: pushing us up the charts. So yeah, make sure you subscribe,
- 25:00Speaker 2: follow whatever it's called on the Apple iTunes thing or
- 25:03Speaker 2: whatever platform you listen to this on, and leave us
- 25:06Speaker 2: a rating as well, because that also helps move things
- 25:08Speaker 2: along and get a scene by more people.
- 25:11Speaker 1: We're everywhere, by the way. We're not just on Apple.
- 25:13Speaker 1: We're on Spotify, believe it or not, We're on iHeartRadio,
- 25:16Speaker 1: We're on everything. Yeah, I'm live. I'll just be on
- 25:20Speaker 1: like in a park on a box sometimes like the
- 25:24Speaker 1: olden days, and I'll roll up a newspaper and just
- 25:26Speaker 1: talk about my opinions.
