- 0:00Aloha. Sunday morning in Hawaiʻi. Scattered showers on the windward side this morning, but the good news is your best window for the week starts tomorrow.
- 1:57Windward Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu are seeing brief showers right now — nothing heavy. West Maui picked up over half an inch overnight. Leeward areas stay mostly dry, with isolated showers only over higher terrain on the Big Island. By tonight the moisture moves out. Tomorrow through Wednesday, trade winds ease and conditions turn mostly dry — scattered clouds and isolated showers only in the mountains and interior valleys. That's your window for outdoor activities.
- 2:20Surf is small across the board — Oʻahu south shore 3.5 feet, north shore 3.2 feet, Maui and Kauaʻi both 2.6 feet, Big Island glassy at 1.4 feet. But there's a High Surf Advisory through Tuesday morning on south and west-facing shores. Even though individual wave heights look reasonable, these coasts are seeing dangerous conditions overnight and into Monday, with minor coastal flooding possible during high tides. Stay off the south shores through Tuesday.
- 2:43Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is open, but Kīpukapuaulu Trail is temporarily closed due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is in replacement. Kīlauea is at an advisory level. If you're heading in, be aware that volcanic ash can reduce visibility on downwind days.
- 2:57If you're planning a Kauaʻi trip around a cultural event, our guide to the Mokihana Festival covers what's happening the last full week of September — hula competitions, a composer's contest, and a craft fair. It's a solid way to experience the island during a quieter season than summer. Full piece is on the site.
- 3:13Thursday and Friday the pattern shifts — moister air moves in from the southeast, so shower chances pick up, especially over higher elevations on the Big Island and Maui.
- 3:21Grab the Mokihana guide if you're booking a Kauaʻi trip. Catch you tomorrow morning.
