- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories,
- 0:15Speaker 1: the podcast that takes listener ideas and turns them into
- 0:19Speaker 1: bedtime stories. Let's check out our listener idea for today's episode.
- 0:27Speaker 2: That's read the Stories. I thought of an idea for
- 0:30Speaker 2: the quantum computer universe. Just now, like now that you
- 0:33Speaker 2: have a spaceship or whatever. You use the spaceship and
- 0:40Speaker 2: you go to an alien planet, and on that alien planet,
- 0:44Speaker 2: there's like aliens that are kind of like humans, but
- 0:47Speaker 2: they are more advanced, and they've like they have like,
- 0:52Speaker 2: like so much garbage that it's taking up most of
- 0:55Speaker 2: their planet. And you try to help them because like
- 0:58Speaker 2: you know, yeah, garbage. Thanks you help the environment.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Well, thank you, JD. I think that is an excellent idea.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And JD has certainly come up with a lot of
- 1:10Speaker 1: ideas lately. I've done I think this is the second
- 1:13Speaker 1: one I've done, right, JD. But you have come up
- 1:17Speaker 1: with many, many more. You could keep me busy for weeks.
- 1:21Speaker 1: If you've never listened to Quantum before, you could either
- 1:24Speaker 1: go back to the first episode or maybe a quick recap.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You're the main character you found a quantum computer that
- 1:32Speaker 1: helped you build a printer that helped you build a
- 1:35Speaker 1: bigger printer, which helps you turn garbage into cool things
- 1:39Speaker 1: like a secret underground base, a submarine, a huff scooter,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and most recently.
- 1:46Speaker 3: A starship.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Sometimes people ask me, Martin, what is the main character's
- 1:53Speaker 1: name in your stories, And the answer is that you
- 1:57Speaker 1: are really meant to be the main character you listen
- 2:00Speaker 1: to these stories, so it's whatever your name is. Sometimes
- 2:05Speaker 1: when I get to publishing book versions and working on things,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I give the character a name and sort of solidify it.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But right now it's you, so I hope you enjoy that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But now it's probably time to get on with the
- 2:19Speaker 1: story after a possible word from a possible sponsor. Of course,
- 2:24Speaker 1: as much as I don't really love advertising, it is
- 2:29Speaker 1: unfortunately a necessity to keep the.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Lights on around here. Though.
- 2:33Speaker 1: If you want bad free episodes, you can head over
- 2:34Speaker 1: to Patreon. Now it's time to get as comfy as
- 2:39Speaker 1: you can in that bed, close your eyes, and imagine
- 2:43Speaker 1: yourself doing what the kid in the story does. Because
- 2:49Speaker 1: the kid is it's you wherever you live, I want
- 2:54Speaker 1: you to imagine it as yourself imagine yourself waking up
- 2:59Speaker 1: in your very you own bed. Everything seems normal for
- 3:03Speaker 1: a second, until you remember that you have a Quantum
- 3:07Speaker 1: computer and a secret underground base send a spaceship hidden
- 3:13Speaker 1: underneath your house, which is not in any way normal.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Good morning, Quantum says, from the watch on your wrist.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You lift your arm to see a little digital smiling
- 3:27Speaker 1: face on the watch, and good morning. Did anything strange
- 3:32Speaker 1: happen while I was sleeping? You ask, define strange? That's
- 3:39Speaker 1: not a great way to start, you answer, I have
- 3:43Speaker 1: spent the night analyzing the corrupted satellite from our previous encounter.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Quantum explains, I have not yet identified the source of
- 3:53Speaker 1: the signal, but I have determined that it was not random,
- 3:58Speaker 1: as you may have guessed. So someone's out there wanting
- 4:04Speaker 1: to attack us. Yes, Quantum answers, something incredibly intelligent, something
- 4:11Speaker 1: that appears to be interested in me. And what are
- 4:17Speaker 1: we going to do about it? You ask, for one,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I have begun making spaceship improvements. Oh, you say that
- 4:28Speaker 1: sounds pretty cool. It is pretty cool. I have reinforced
- 4:33Speaker 1: the ship's energy shield, improved the sensor array, upgraded the
- 4:39Speaker 1: emergency repair systems, and adjusted the interstellar engine. To make
- 4:45Speaker 1: it more efficient, you set up a little straighter interstellar engine. Yes,
- 4:54Speaker 1: the starship is designed for travel between stars, as I
- 4:58Speaker 1: believe I mentioned early. However, we have only tested it
- 5:03Speaker 1: inside this solar system. I believe it's time for a
- 5:07Speaker 1: proper test. You mean you want to go to another
- 5:12Speaker 1: star system. Yes, that is what interstellar means.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I totally knew that you answer, I'm sure you did.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Quantum says. You climb out of bed and look toward
- 5:29Speaker 1: the little red button on your nightstand. You press it.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Your bed slide sideways across the floor, revealing the same
- 5:39Speaker 1: glowing hatch that do the same one that's always beneath it.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You pull it up, open it and sit on top
- 5:47Speaker 1: of the metal slide, and when you're ready, you give
- 5:53Speaker 1: yourself a push and head downward. Immediately, you shoot down
- 5:59Speaker 1: the slide into a strange glowing tunnel that curves left
- 6:04Speaker 1: and right, dips sharply, and eventually slides out into your
- 6:11Speaker 1: secret underground base, which is very busy as usual. Helper
- 6:17Speaker 1: robots float around, moving tools and checking panels. The giant
- 6:23Speaker 1: three D printer glows softly against one wall. Over copters
- 6:28Speaker 1: sit in their launch base. The living room area is
- 6:32Speaker 1: lit up, and the quantum TV is showing some kind
- 6:36Speaker 1: of alien cooking show where the chef appears to be
- 6:39Speaker 1: cooking soup. But the thing that catches your eye is
- 6:44Speaker 1: the starship. It sits in the middle of the launch bay,
- 6:49Speaker 1: right below the bay doors, all sleek and silvery looking,
- 6:55Speaker 1: with little blue lines running across it. A few helper
- 6:59Speaker 1: bots float around it, polishing the hall and attaching the
- 7:04Speaker 1: last few side panels. It looks different, you say, correct,
- 7:12Speaker 1: the shield emitters have been reinforced, the engines have been
- 7:17Speaker 1: made more efficient, and the shield has been greatly improved.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You climb into the starship through the rear hatch. Inside
- 7:28Speaker 1: the ship feels well kind of the same.
- 7:32Speaker 3: First there's the cargo area with the three.
- 7:35Speaker 1: D printer, storage, tank, tools, helper bots, and now the
- 7:41Speaker 1: new mech suit parked over to the side. Then comes
- 7:46Speaker 1: the living room area, which is designed a lot like
- 7:49Speaker 1: a tiny house or RV, a small kitchen, a couch,
- 7:55Speaker 1: a quantum TV, and a comfy sleeping pod built into
- 8:00Speaker 1: the wall. Finally, you enter the command center or cockpit.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You sit in the pilot's seat and the controls glowed
- 8:10Speaker 1: life around you. Quantum's face appears on the main screen.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Today's test will involve a short interstellar jump. He says,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I have located a planet that may contain life near by.
- 8:29Speaker 1: You ask, nearby in space terms, Quantum answers, so super
- 8:36Speaker 1: far away?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yes?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Won't my parents notice if I'm gone for too long?
- 8:44Speaker 3: You ask?
- 8:45Speaker 1: That is a potential possibility, one that I have planned for.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Behold you two point zero. A hatch in the side
- 8:56Speaker 1: of the spaceship opens up and out walks you a
- 9:02Speaker 1: perfect replica of you, wearing clothes that you actually own,
- 9:09Speaker 1: not the same ones you're wearing right now, but well
- 9:12Speaker 1: ones you definitely have.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Hello.
- 9:16Speaker 1: The other version of you says, I am a three
- 9:19Speaker 1: D printed, robotic reconstruction of you, designed to mimic your
- 9:25Speaker 1: habits and behaviors in every way. I will take care
- 9:30Speaker 1: of things while you're gone, including any troublesome homework. The
- 9:37Speaker 1: strange robotic version of you taps you on the shoulder
- 9:40Speaker 1: and walks out the.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Back of the ship. You watch out.
- 9:44Speaker 1: The window as it climbs into the slide and shoots
- 9:49Speaker 1: back up to your room. Are you sure that's a
- 9:53Speaker 1: good idea, Quantum, you ask, don't worry most people will
- 9:59Speaker 1: never know.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Notice.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Okay, you answer, I do like the whole doing my
- 10:06Speaker 1: homework part. After all, let's get going. Above you, the
- 10:12Speaker 1: hatch and the base starts to open and sunlight pours in.
- 10:17Speaker 1: You place your hands on the controls and start to
- 10:22Speaker 1: pull up gently using the hover mode. Of course, the
- 10:27Speaker 1: spaceship lifts up off the floor, rises smoothly through the opening,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and begins to head higher and higher above your house.
- 10:39Speaker 1: The hatch closes beneath you and hides the base entirely,
- 10:44Speaker 1: as if it were never there. You pull back on
- 10:49Speaker 1: the controls and the ship climbs higher. Activating flight mode,
- 10:55Speaker 1: you say, pressing a button on the console. Instantly, the
- 11:01Speaker 1: ship shifts.
- 11:02Speaker 3: To flight mode.
- 11:05Speaker 1: You press forward on the throttle and blast into the sky.
- 11:10Speaker 1: The sky slowly changes from blue into well black. Quantum
- 11:18Speaker 1: brings up a star map on the screen in front
- 11:22Speaker 1: of you. The target planet orbits a small star not
- 11:26Speaker 1: too far away. My scan suggest an atmosphere, liquid water,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and artificial energy patterns. So like aliens, you ask, Probably
- 11:41Speaker 1: friendly aliens, you ask. That remains to be seen. That
- 11:47Speaker 1: is why I upgraded the shields. Oh uh, thanks, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: guess that's kind of comforting. I was not attempting to
- 11:56Speaker 1: comfort you. I was providing accurate information. Yeah, okay. Quantum
- 12:04Speaker 1: highlights a glowing button on the console setting coordinates coordinates set,
- 12:12Speaker 1: press the button to activate the warp drive. Quantum, how
- 12:18Speaker 1: exactly does warp work?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Again?
- 12:21Speaker 1: The engine bends the space between two points, allowing the
- 12:25Speaker 1: ship to travel a shorter distance instead of crossing a
- 12:30Speaker 1: very large gap. So we're not actually going super fast,
- 12:39Speaker 1: not exactly, we're actually making the trip shorter. That doesn't
- 12:45Speaker 1: sound super possible. You say, many useful things sound impossible
- 12:51Speaker 1: until they're done. Now, are you going to press that button?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Or should I activate the warp drive myself? You press
- 13:02Speaker 1: the button. Warp field forming Quantum says, as the ship
- 13:08Speaker 1: starts to hum, then everything outside the windows starts to
- 13:14Speaker 1: kind of bend. The stars stretch into lines, space twists
- 13:19Speaker 1: around the ship in a way that makes you feel
- 13:22Speaker 1: a little bit sick to your stomach. Then the ship
- 13:26Speaker 1: shoots forward at what feels like an incredible speed. Oho,
- 13:33Speaker 1: you say, don't worry, the feeling you are currently experiencing
- 13:39Speaker 1: is fully normal. Hi, dot think it feels normal? You say, understood,
- 13:47Speaker 1: don't worry. It will be over soon. And you should
- 13:51Speaker 1: get more used to the feeling in future trips. Before
- 13:56Speaker 1: you can think too much about that, the stars snap
- 14:01Speaker 1: back into place, and a new planet hangs directly in
- 14:06Speaker 1: front of you. It's large and blue and green, with
- 14:10Speaker 1: really wide continents and shiny cities and rings of satellites
- 14:15Speaker 1: floating around it. It looks beautiful from space. We made it,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you say, yes, Quantum answers warp jump successful. You stare
- 14:30Speaker 1: at the planet amazed. But well you're staring something else
- 14:37Speaker 1: appears behind you. A blast of purple energy flashes. You
- 14:44Speaker 1: hear an explosion behind the ship, and you suddenly start
- 14:49Speaker 1: heading straight towards the planet. Alarms start to flash across
- 14:55Speaker 1: the screen. Quantum, I believe we have sustained a hit
- 15:01Speaker 1: to our engines. Quantum says, engine damage detected.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I thought we had.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Brand new shields. We do, However, they were not on.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Why were they not on? You ask, shields take an
- 15:20Speaker 1: extensive amount of power, and I did not detect anything
- 15:24Speaker 1: to be worried about. Well, obviously you were wrong. You say,
- 15:30Speaker 1: that is true. Prepare for crash. Seat belts shoot around
- 15:36Speaker 1: your body, locking you securely in place. You grab a
- 15:41Speaker 1: hold of the controls and do your best to steer
- 15:45Speaker 1: the ship as it heads down towards the planet. You
- 15:48Speaker 1: are doing an excellent job. I recommend heading straight down
- 15:53Speaker 1: towards this area, Quantum says, displaying a picture of a
- 15:59Speaker 1: large open area on the screen in front of you.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It seems to be some sort of gigantic garbage dump.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It should help with the impact and provide sufficient materials
- 16:12Speaker 1: for repair if we survive. The spaceship drops through the
- 16:18Speaker 1: planet's atmosphere. Fire glows around you, and the shield begins
- 16:24Speaker 1: to shake. Brace for impact, Quantum says, and the ground
- 16:30Speaker 1: starts rushing up towards you. You see a huge gray
- 16:35Speaker 1: brown area stretching in the horizon and rivers of garbage,
- 16:41Speaker 1: towers of garbage, garbage stacked so high it's well bigger
- 16:47Speaker 1: than most buildings on Earth. The ship slams into the
- 16:52Speaker 1: top of one of the trash mountains. It slides through
- 16:56Speaker 1: broken machines, containers, twisted metal, old hover carves, and that's
- 17:02Speaker 1: something that looks a bit like a banana peel. Finally,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it crashes into a soft hill of something that looks
- 17:10Speaker 1: like giant foam cubes and comes to a stop. For
- 17:15Speaker 1: a moment, everything is silent, and then quantum says, good news,
- 17:23Speaker 1: we have landed. What's the bad news, you ask. The
- 17:29Speaker 1: ship is damaged, the main three D printer is offline,
- 17:34Speaker 1: the engines are unstable, and we seem to be sitting
- 17:39Speaker 1: in an alien garbage dump. It does not smell good.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You look out the window at the giant piles of trash. Well,
- 17:50Speaker 1: as you said, at least we have materials. Yes, that
- 17:56Speaker 1: is good news. A loud knock echoes from outside the ship,
- 18:02Speaker 1: as if someone's knocking on the back door. Something is
- 18:08Speaker 1: standing outside the window, or someone an alien. It has
- 18:17Speaker 1: long arms and three eyes, and a shiny orange work vest.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It also seems to be holding a clipboard, which makes
- 18:27Speaker 1: it look kind of official, as people with clipboards do.
- 18:32Speaker 1: The alien waves towards you and knocks again. You move
- 18:37Speaker 1: over to the back door and open up the hatch.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Hello there, the alien says, cheerfully, Welcome to the Great
- 18:47Speaker 1: Northern Waist Management's Zone. You blink the What the Great
- 18:55Speaker 1: Northern Waist Achievement Zone? The guy replies, it's the largest
- 19:02Speaker 1: garbage dump on the planet, possibly even in the quadrant.
- 19:06Speaker 1: My name's Gary, Oh, you say, thank Gary. Gary looks
- 19:13Speaker 1: at your crashed spaceship with interest. It's a totally nice entrance,
- 19:20Speaker 1: very traumatic, but not very tidy. This ship looks totally trashed.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I assume you'll be leaving it here. No, hopefully we'll
- 19:32Speaker 1: be repairing it. Oh weird, Sorry about landing in the
- 19:38Speaker 1: garbage dump. We were attacked, Gary nods, Yeah, I.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Was gonna guess that.
- 19:46Speaker 1: The giant blaster remarks on the back of your engines
- 19:50Speaker 1: kind of tell that story. You step abu to the
- 19:53Speaker 1: ship and look around at the gigantic garbage dump. It
- 19:58Speaker 1: smells bad. It's impressive, isn't it, Gary says. As you
- 20:03Speaker 1: look around the dump stretches, as far as you can see,
- 20:08Speaker 1: there are broken, well what look to be flying things,
- 20:13Speaker 1: old robot bodies, cracked machines, torn screens, twisted cable, mountains
- 20:20Speaker 1: of packaging, and strange alien appliances that you've never seen before.
- 20:26Speaker 1: At least you think they're alien appliances. It's a lot,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you say, thank you, Gary says proudly. We're a very
- 20:37Speaker 1: advanced people, you are, you ask, Oh? Yeah, very advanced.
- 20:44Speaker 1: We mind asteroids and build pretty much anything we want.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We ship it across the planet, use it for a
- 20:51Speaker 1: little while, and then we throw it back here, and
- 20:56Speaker 1: what happens to it all? You ask, leaving Gary looking
- 21:01Speaker 1: rather confused. What do you mean what happens to it?
- 21:07Speaker 4: Like?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Do you recycle it?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Carrie stares at you, and then well he laughs and
- 21:15Speaker 1: laughs and continues to laugh. Oh that's a good one,
- 21:23Speaker 1: Gary says, he used the same material, dece What a
- 21:27Speaker 1: funny idea. You're quite a funny guy there, he says,
- 21:31Speaker 1: as he punches you on the arm. Actually it's an
- 21:35Speaker 1: excellent idea. A voice says from your wrist, Gary leans,
- 21:41Speaker 1: closer to your wrist. Is your bracelet talking? Oh yeah,
- 21:48Speaker 1: that's quantum. Hello, Quantum says Gary waves at your wrist. Hello,
- 21:55Speaker 1: small bracelet person. I am a quantum computer. Quantum explains,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Of course you are. Gary says, nodding as if that
- 22:06Speaker 1: explains everything. You look around at the dump again. Would
- 22:11Speaker 1: you mind if we repurposed some of this garbage? You ask?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Gary laughs. You can take as much garbage as you want.
- 22:22Speaker 1: We have more coming every hour. It's my job to
- 22:26Speaker 1: manage it. So you're in charge of all of this.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Gary stands taller. Yes, I am the supreme regional waste
- 22:37Speaker 1: placement coordinator. That sounds really important. You say, Oh, it's
- 22:43Speaker 1: extremely important, Gary explains. Without me, people might put like
- 22:49Speaker 1: waste in the wrong region and then it would look
- 22:53Speaker 1: like it look terrible around here. Scanning garbage, Quantum says
- 23:00Speaker 1: the ship produces a bright blue light that scans the
- 23:04Speaker 1: garbage around you. The main printer inside the ship is damaged.
- 23:10Speaker 1: As I explained, However, we do have a back up
- 23:15Speaker 1: three D printer. The only issue is that it is
- 23:19Speaker 1: much smaller. We can start by getting material and printing
- 23:25Speaker 1: components to fix the larger three D printer. After that,
- 23:30Speaker 1: ship repair should be much easier. We should start by
- 23:35Speaker 1: gathering material. I recommend using the mech suit. I believe
- 23:41Speaker 1: it is mostly intact. Mostly you ask mostly meaning it
- 23:49Speaker 1: works enough. It's not your favorite answer, but you climb
- 23:55Speaker 1: over towards the mech suit anyways. The cargo bay has
- 23:59Speaker 1: a few pieces of the walls missing and a few
- 24:03Speaker 1: damaged robots, but luckily the mechs suit does look fairly untouched.
- 24:09Speaker 1: The chest opens up like a giant metal rib cage,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and you step inside. The arms close around your arms,
- 24:18Speaker 1: the legs close around your legs, the chest plate seals,
- 24:23Speaker 1: and the helmet lowers over your head. The display lights
- 24:28Speaker 1: up and well in an instant, It's as if you're
- 24:32Speaker 1: seeing through the eyes of the mech suit itself. WHOA
- 24:38Speaker 1: Gary gasps, he brought like a metal chipion robot. Uh sure,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you say through the speaker, We'll go with that. Quantum
- 24:51Speaker 1: begins to highlight useful material in your helmet display and
- 24:56Speaker 1: you start to move around and pick up pieces of it.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Using a giant datomizer cannon, of course, that's well attached
- 25:06Speaker 1: to your left wrist. You simply point it at objects
- 25:10Speaker 1: that you want to absorb, squeeze your fist, and a
- 25:15Speaker 1: bright yellow light shines out, pulls the material closer to
- 25:21Speaker 1: you and starts to deatomize it into little pieces of
- 25:27Speaker 1: energy that it sucks into its storage tank. It doesn't
- 25:32Speaker 1: take you too long before you have a single full tank.
- 25:36Speaker 3: You move back inside the.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Cargo bay where some helper robots have placed the smaller
- 25:43Speaker 1: three D printer. You hook up the energy storage tank
- 25:48Speaker 1: and the printer comes to life. Piece by piece, it
- 25:54Speaker 1: prints what it needs to make the larger three D printer,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and the remaining helpers, the ones that weren't destroyed on
- 26:02Speaker 1: the crash, begin to repair the main one. It's slow
- 26:07Speaker 1: at first, but you keep collecting. Gary follows you around,
- 26:12Speaker 1: taking notes on his clipboard. This is fascinating, he says.
- 26:19Speaker 1: You're like turning garbage into new stuff that's kind of
- 26:25Speaker 1: cool or maybe gross.
- 26:28Speaker 3: You can't really decide.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, basically, you say. And then you see it, a
- 26:38Speaker 1: purple light shining down on the garbage around you. Quantum,
- 26:45Speaker 1: you say, analyzing, this is what I feared. It would
- 26:51Speaker 1: seem that this is the strange energy we faced before.
- 26:56Speaker 1: If I were you, I would prepare for another garbage creature.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And sure enough, broken pieces of garbage start moving themselves together.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Metal pieces slide into arms and legs, Thick cables twist
- 27:16Speaker 1: around the thing, and old tires and weird pieces of
- 27:21Speaker 1: biological garbage sort of suck themselves together into a weird,
- 27:27Speaker 1: broken looking garbage monster or something like that. Luckily, you've
- 27:36Speaker 1: dealt with things like this before. You immediately activate your
- 27:40Speaker 1: freeze ray. You jump into the air, aim down at
- 27:45Speaker 1: the garbage creature, and fire a blast of freezing energy.
- 27:51Speaker 1: It instantly hits the creature and turns itself into a
- 27:55Speaker 1: gigantic ice cube with the whole garbage creature inside. You
- 28:02Speaker 1: slam down on it with a fist and break it
- 28:05Speaker 1: back into hundreds of pieces. Only another garbage monster appears
- 28:13Speaker 1: behind you. A tire hits you in the back. You
- 28:17Speaker 1: turn around, point your freeze ray and freeze that creature too,
- 28:23Speaker 1: then run towards it and smash it into pieces. I
- 28:28Speaker 1: believe you will have to take care of the satellite.
- 28:33Speaker 1: A similar satellite has taken to orbit of this planet.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I recommend using your long range missiles to destroy it.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I have long range missiles, you ask, and as if
- 28:49Speaker 1: to answer the question, your field of view changes. You
- 28:54Speaker 1: look up at the sky and instantly zoom in on
- 28:58Speaker 1: something that looks very tight At first, you zoom in
- 29:02Speaker 1: further and the object gets bigger. Zoom in more, and
- 29:07Speaker 1: it gets even bigger, until it takes up your whole
- 29:12Speaker 1: field of vision. A satellite that looks like it's made
- 29:16Speaker 1: up of pieces of garbage, glowing with a strange purple energy.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Your suit highlights the target. Ready to launch missiles.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Quantum masks.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, I'm ready, you say, Well, then do so.
- 29:37Speaker 1: All you should have to do is think about launching them.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Oh okay. You focus for a second, imagining missiles launching
- 29:47Speaker 1: out of the mechsuit and destroying the satellite, and in
- 29:52Speaker 1: an instant. That's exactly what happens. The hatch opens on
- 29:57Speaker 1: the back of the suit, A missile atisle blasts out,
- 30:01Speaker 1: and you watch as it explodes the satellite into a
- 30:06Speaker 1: whole bunch of different pieces. That was an excellent job,
- 30:12Speaker 1: Quantum says. You look around at double check, but you're
- 30:17Speaker 1: pretty sure that would have taken care of the problem.
- 30:21Speaker 1: What was that thing, you ask? I am not entirely sure,
- 30:27Speaker 1: but I believe it is trying to interfere with our operations.
- 30:32Speaker 1: You look around again at the endless gigantic alien garbage pit.
- 30:40Speaker 1: This place could be a real problem here, you say.
- 30:45Speaker 1: These people don't seem to know how to recycle or anything. Yes,
- 30:51Speaker 1: Quantum says, a very large problem. But there is good news.
- 30:58Speaker 1: The primary printer has been restored, so we can fix
- 31:03Speaker 1: the engines now, Yes we can. However, based on the
- 31:09Speaker 1: situation surrounding us, I would like to suggest something else.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Uh what is it? You ask?
- 31:18Speaker 1: Well, Gary, your planet has an enormous waste problem. Gary
- 31:25Speaker 1: looks at the mountain of trash. I well, I sort
- 31:29Speaker 1: of always saw this as an achievement, he says. That
- 31:34Speaker 1: is incorrect. Quantum replies, oh, I was afraid of that
- 31:41Speaker 1: what if we helped you turn all of this stuff
- 31:44Speaker 1: into something useful? Ugh, this garbage into something useful. Well,
- 31:53Speaker 1: maybe not all of it today, but we could get
- 31:56Speaker 1: things started. Quantum prity jets a design into the air
- 32:02Speaker 1: as a sort of holographic image. We could create a
- 32:07Speaker 1: station that would include collector bots, d atomizers, storage tanks,
- 32:13Speaker 1: and three D printers. The first printer will prioritize building
- 32:19Speaker 1: more collector bots and three D printers. After that, the
- 32:24Speaker 1: system can begin producing useful objects from approved blueprints.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Huh, Like what kind of useful objects?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Gary asks? Vehicles, appliances, tools, replacement parts, furniture, toys, clothing,
- 32:43Speaker 1: building materials and building accessories, gadgets, and pretty much anything else.
- 32:51Speaker 1: You mean, Like people could bring garbage here and leave
- 32:56Speaker 1: with like new things. That is direct, Quantum says. That
- 33:03Speaker 1: would make this the coolest garbage dump on the planet.
- 33:09Speaker 1: It would make it a recycling and fabrication center. Quantum says, well,
- 33:17Speaker 1: I guess it would be like the most important recycling
- 33:20Speaker 1: and fabrication center on the planet. Then that is more accurate,
- 33:26Speaker 1: Quantum says. Gary nods hi accept and Quantum begins immediately
- 33:35Speaker 1: the big three D printer inside the starship glows and
- 33:40Speaker 1: helper bots begin to carry materials into the deatomizer. He
- 33:47Speaker 1: starts by first producing a collector bot, a robot with
- 33:52Speaker 1: little grab or arms, a deatomizer cannon, and some energy
- 33:58Speaker 1: storage mabel to fly throughout the dump and collect material
- 34:04Speaker 1: The robot immediately gets to work as Quantum continues to print,
- 34:09Speaker 1: only this time it prints another printer. The collector robots
- 34:15Speaker 1: starts to feed the printer with energy, and the printer
- 34:20Speaker 1: continues printing other things, other collector robots and other printers.
- 34:28Speaker 1: This is totally amazing, Gary says, thank you. Quantum. Response,
- 34:36Speaker 1: with the other collector robots and three D printers collected,
- 34:40Speaker 1: Quantum switches again to repairing the ship. The printer prints
- 34:46Speaker 1: new panels and new materials needed to finish the ship,
- 34:51Speaker 1: and the helper robots start putting them in place. It
- 34:55Speaker 1: doesn't take long for the ship to be completely repaired
- 35:00Speaker 1: and for the new recycling center to be well underway. Well, Gary,
- 35:07Speaker 1: I believe it is time that we left you here. However,
- 35:11Speaker 1: the three D printers and collector robots will continue to work.
- 35:17Speaker 1: I have scanned your local databases and programmed the machines
- 35:22Speaker 1: with pre approved designs, designs from your planet's own database. WHOA,
- 35:31Speaker 1: that's totally cool, Gary says. He immediately rushes over to
- 35:36Speaker 1: one of the three D printers and starts flipping through
- 35:39Speaker 1: different designs on the screen. You mean I can make
- 35:44Speaker 1: like any of this, he asks. That is correct. You
- 35:49Speaker 1: maneuver the mech suit back inside the storage bay of
- 35:53Speaker 1: the ship, lock it into the wall, and open up
- 35:58Speaker 1: the chest cavity. You climb out and onto the ground.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Oh hell, Gary, we better be headed out. I have
- 36:06Speaker 1: fun with your new three D printing recycling center, you say,
- 36:10Speaker 1: as you wave goodbye. Oh thanks, guys. You should totally
- 36:16Speaker 1: come back and see how things go later on. Huh,
- 36:19Speaker 1: maybe we will, you answer. The back hatch closes and
- 36:25Speaker 1: the ship lifts up into the air. Uh, quantum, I'm
- 36:30Speaker 1: feeling kind of sleepy. You mind handling the flight home
- 36:34Speaker 1: or wherever?
- 36:35Speaker 3: You say?
- 36:37Speaker 1: Understood, I can do all of the driving. Have a
- 36:42Speaker 1: good night. The lights inside the ship automatically dim as
- 36:48Speaker 1: you walk into the living area. You climb into your
- 36:52Speaker 1: little sleeping pod. You pull the covers up to your chin,
- 36:58Speaker 1: close your eyes, and begin to simply focus on your breath,
- 37:05Speaker 1: noticing your stomach rising and falling with each breath and
- 37:11Speaker 1: allowing all of the tension and your muscles to sort
- 37:15Speaker 1: of fall away, releasing the tension from your arms and legs,
- 37:22Speaker 1: your neck, your head, your shoulders, and even your face.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And slowly you allow your mind to begin to drift
- 37:34Speaker 1: off as well, off to thoughts of new dreams, new adventures,
- 37:41Speaker 1: and new three D printed objects to come. Good night
- 37:49Speaker 1: everyone in.
- 39:25Speaker 4: New York. La union, no mothing.
- 43:06Speaker 1: No.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Mo m UNIONI um
- 54:59Speaker 2: H as
