- 0:09Hey, Bradley Charbonneau coming to you from Bali for Thursday Thunder and the Repossible podcast. But not the Bali you're probably imagining. No infinity pools and curated sunsets. No drone shots of waterfalls. This week I walked to my friend's dog. I fixed their washing machine. I dropped a 9 year old off at school.
- 0:33And in the middle of that deeply unglamorous schedule, I found something I didn't expect.
- 0:41Wealth.
- 0:43Rich richness.
- 0:45It got me thinking about that quote. The best things in life are free. The second best things are incredibly expensive.
- 0:55We're often led to believe we need to chase the shiny, the curated, the impressive. But what if the real stuff, the lasting stuff, comes from something far less flashy?
- 1:11This episode is about people and experience.
- 1:15It's about presence and connection. And it's about realizing that maybe the moments we we don't post are the ones we end up treasuring most.
- 1:27Let's dive in.
- 1:29Part 1 the Unexpected paradise so yeah, I'm in Bali. But instead of ziplining or sipping something with a flower in it, I'm visiting a longtime friend.
- 1:45We're sharing meals, swapping stories, walking his dog through traffic and rice fields.
- 1:51We fixed a broken washing machine. We ran a mundane school errand. We talked late into the evening about life, purpose, kids, mistakes and dreams.
- 2:03And you know what?
- 2:04It was deeply rich.
- 2:09Little joke there, because my friend's name is rich.
- 2:12These are the kinds of experiences money can't really buy.
- 2:18I mean, yes, I need a plane ticket to get here, but the kind of connections you can't always plan for.
- 2:27Sometimes, even when you're with someone you've just met, that one conversation goes deeper than a decade long friendship.
- 2:36It's not about time. It's about presence.
- 2:41It's not about knowing someone's history. It's about showing up for their now.
- 2:50Part 2 the trap of second best things here's where it gets tricky. We've been sold this fantasy life that the more you spend time, the better it must be.
- 3:06That if it's not photogenic, it's not worth doing.
- 3:11That connection only counts if it's captioned.
- 3:17But here's the truth.
- 3:20Most of the second best things in life, they're beautiful on the outside and surprisingly hollow on the inside.
- 3:30The beachfront villa, the influencer brunch, the itinerary built more for posting than for feeling.
- 3:40They're not bad.
- 3:42They're just not enough.
- 3:45Because they're missing something.
- 3:48People.
- 3:49Connection.
- 3:50Experience.
- 3:52We can spend thousands for the perfect trip.
- 3:56But sometimes the richest experience is a walk down a dusty road with a friend.
- 4:02Or a shared laugh with someone you just met who sees something in you you didn't know was there.
- 4:14Part 3 the heart of it all so let's come back now to that quote.
- 4:21The best things in life are free.
- 4:24The second best things are incredibly expensive.
- 4:30It's not about guilt.
- 4:32It's about awareness.
- 4:35It's okay to want the beautiful trip. It's okay to enjoy the sunsets and the lattes and the spa days.
- 4:42Just don't forget where the real treasure is.
- 4:47Because the second best things might impress you, but the best things, they hold you. They're subtle. They're sacred.
- 4:58And they're soaked in connection.
- 5:02The second best things in life, they fade fast.
- 5:06But the best things, they stay.
- 5:09They root. They echo.
- 5:12A quiet conversation, a look of recognition, a shared slice of someone el else's real life.
- 5:21These aren't flashy moments. They're the kind you remember on a random Tuesday and feel grateful all over again.
- 5:33So here's what I'm walking away with.
- 5:36You don't need to escape your life to fall in love with it again.
- 5:41You don't need to fly across the world to be rich.
- 5:47You don't need more money or more time to start feeling connected.
- 5:55You just need people and experiences.
- 6:01You need to pay attention, not pay.
- 6:06More money.
- 6:08So look around.
- 6:11Slow down.
- 6:12Say yes to the tiny, ordinary moments that no one else will ever see.
- 6:18But that will matter more than any photo ever could.
- 6:23Because the best things in life, they're free.
- 6:27And if we're lucky, we'll remember to notice them.
- 6:34Thanks for listening and watching. I'm Bradley Schrobineau and this is the Repossible podcast and the Thursday Thunder broadcast weekly video address.
- 6:43See you next week.
