- 0:01Speaker 1: Line from the Skying New Center.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is the Kenny Report. Thanks for joining me for
- 0:07Speaker 2: the first response of the day Tonight. The Prime Minister's
- 0:10Speaker 2: hypocrisy on negative personal attacks, a peace deal looming close
- 0:17Speaker 2: in the Middle East, no doubt sparked by Donald Trump's interventions.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'll talk to former Labor Minister Mike Kelly about that
- 0:24Speaker 2: and Labour's abandonment of Israel, and while President elect Trump
- 0:29Speaker 2: prepares for his inauguration, returning First Lady Millenia promises to
- 0:35Speaker 2: save taxpayers money. All that and one hell of a
- 0:38Speaker 2: lineup tonight with Kristen Tate in the US, plus Timblair,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Christian McSweeney and Steven Senna Tempe. Let's get cracking. Okay,
- 0:49Speaker 2: let's kick off with the first episode of Hypocrisy Watch
- 0:53Speaker 2: for the year of twenty twenty five. We talked yesterday
- 0:55Speaker 2: about how the unofficial election campaign was already getting pretty
- 0:59Speaker 2: willing and personal. The leader of the charge, of course,
- 1:03Speaker 2: has been the Prime Minister, Anthony Albertezi. Has been slagging Peter.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Dutton coalition negative about absolutely everything.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I haven't seen any specifics, but Peter Dutton will continue
- 1:23Speaker 3: as he did yesterday to look for areas of division,
- 1:28Speaker 3: to look for areas in which he can try to
- 1:33Speaker 3: promote fear in the community.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Now that probably jarred with you as it did with me,
- 1:41Speaker 2: because after all, wasn't it negativity and personal attacks that
- 1:45Speaker 2: actually got Albow into the Prime ministership. Let's go back
- 1:50Speaker 2: three years and see if the PM measures up to
- 1:53Speaker 2: his own standards.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Never before has Australia had a Prime Minister with such
- 2:00Speaker 3: a pathological determination to avoid responsibility. He declares, it's not
- 2:08Speaker 3: my job, it's not a race, it's to matter for
- 2:12Speaker 3: the states. He doesn't hold a hose and he doesn't
- 2:16Speaker 3: give a rats.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Nah. He fails his own standard, doesn't he. That's Albo
- 2:23Speaker 2: all negative and nasty against Scott Morrison as he ran
- 2:27Speaker 2: a sustained personal attack to try to win power. This
- 2:30Speaker 2: tactic dominated Labour's advertising.
- 2:34Speaker 3: One of the things about Scott Morrison is that those
- 2:37Speaker 3: people who've worked closely with him, they all say that
- 2:41Speaker 3: the more you know him, the less trustworthy he's regarded with.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Raised by Pete Erickson ALP camera. Yeah, there was no
- 2:50Speaker 2: mistaking the negative and personal nature of Albanese's political attacks.
- 2:54Speaker 2: We even saw it in his official campaign launch.
- 2:58Speaker 3: That is his way, that's his character. Whenever Australia needs
- 3:05Speaker 3: a solution, he offers only smirk and mirrors.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And it didn't escape media attention at the time.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Today the opposition leader abandoned policy and returned to the
- 3:18Speaker 5: all out attack on Scott Morrison's character. That has brought
- 3:22Speaker 5: Labor to the brink of victory. Visiting a flood ravaged
- 3:25Speaker 5: home in Brisbane.
- 3:26Speaker 6: That's tough.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Anthony Albernezi recited the long case for the prosecution Scott Morrison.
- 3:32Speaker 3: When after the election in the twenty nineteen twenty bushfires
- 3:38Speaker 3: went missing on the pandemic, he said it wasn't a
- 3:41Speaker 3: race and didn't order enough vaccines.
- 3:43Speaker 5: On this year's deluge.
- 3:44Speaker 3: We saw again a political response rather than a human response.
- 3:49Speaker 4: And on what the future holds.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Scott Morrison is re elected, we can expect cuts to health,
- 3:56Speaker 3: cuts to education, cuts to other essential services.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we all remember it. That's how alban Easy got
- 4:04Speaker 2: to the lodge. Labor had very few policies. They just had,
- 4:07Speaker 2: on the one hand, promises to lower interest rates, lower
- 4:11Speaker 2: electricity prices and lower the cost of living, all promises
- 4:14Speaker 2: that they've broken. And on the other they attacked Scott Morrison.
- 4:19Speaker 2: That was it. That was the strategy and it worked
- 4:23Speaker 2: and when he won, he is what the Prime Minister
- 4:26Speaker 2: elect had to say.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I look forward to leading a government that makes Australians proud,
- 4:36Speaker 3: a government that doesn't seek to divide, that doesn't seek
- 4:40Speaker 3: to have wedges, but seeks to bring people together. And
- 4:45Speaker 3: I do believe that we can do politics better and
- 4:48Speaker 3: I hope to do so.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's Anthony Albanisi, the very same person who said
- 4:56Speaker 2: this about Peter Dutton yesterday, leadership with a heart.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Peter Dutton represents it, cold hearted, mean spirit. It's sometimes
- 5:06Speaker 3: just plain nasty response and that's not going to help people.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Look, this paradox of this hypocrisy is extraordinary, isn't it.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Dutton's response hit the nail on the head today.
- 5:18Speaker 7: Frankly, I think the prom Minise is pretty unhinged in
- 5:20Speaker 7: some of his comments at the moment, and not much
- 5:22Speaker 7: of it based in fact. So the Prime Minister cannot
- 5:24Speaker 7: tell you what he's achieved in this term for Parliament.
- 5:27Speaker 7: He's talking about what the agenda might be if they
- 5:29Speaker 7: get re elected and what will happen in a minority
- 5:32Speaker 7: government when they're governing with the Greens. In his mind.
- 5:34Speaker 7: But the fact is he can't tell you what this
- 5:36Speaker 7: three year term has been about.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yes, indeed, and never forget as you saw a few
- 5:42Speaker 2: clips back that Alvin Easy accused Scott Morrison of constantly
- 5:46Speaker 2: ducking responsibility and then this is what Albo did.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I've been traveling in the car, so I haven't been
- 5:58Speaker 3: advised about that. Of course, a state bail schemes are
- 6:03Speaker 3: run by the States, but the Commonwealth Grant's Commission operates
- 6:07Speaker 3: at arms length from the government. There is a big
- 6:10Speaker 3: Australia and independent body and the government doesn't direct them
- 6:14Speaker 3: on what to do. This is not my proposal. This
- 6:17Speaker 3: is the Australian people's proposal. State and churchy governments are
- 6:20Speaker 3: responsible primarily for those issues.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And that is why this remains the Alban Easy Labor
- 6:29Speaker 2: government's election theme song.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Not jew is not not.
- 6:51Speaker 2: You just knew I wasn't going to put that one away,
- 6:53Speaker 2: didn't you. It's going to be a lively and entertaining
- 6:56Speaker 2: election year and as always will turn the spot by
- 6:59Speaker 2: it hypocrisy. Yesterday I decried how our politicians and authorities
- 7:08Speaker 2: are doing nothing to stamp out Islamist extremism and anti Semitism.
- 7:14Speaker 2: You know this stuff. I've talked about it for more
- 7:16Speaker 2: than a year. But then look at what we read
- 7:18Speaker 2: in the Daily Telegraph today that exposed how the principle
- 7:23Speaker 2: of a Muslim school in the town of Young in
- 7:25Speaker 2: New South Wales has been preaching vile hatred against Jews
- 7:29Speaker 2: and Zionists. Sheikh Abu Ghani Albaf has tweeted that a
- 7:35Speaker 2: two state solution won't work and that the Zionist terrorist
- 7:39Speaker 2: state of Israel simply needs to go. What a disgrace.
- 7:44Speaker 2: This blok runs a school, he's in charge of shaping
- 7:47Speaker 2: young minds, and he's glorifying terrorism and urging more of it. Remember,
- 7:53Speaker 2: a Zionist is anyone who supports the existence of the
- 7:56Speaker 2: State of Israel. I'm a Zionist, and if any of
- 7:59Speaker 2: that's too obscure, if you are for anyone. Albaf also
- 8:02Speaker 2: tweeted this, may Allah destroy the Zionist terrorist regime. He said,
- 8:07Speaker 2: may they burn in the lowest pits of hell fire.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That's the dangerous extremism and anti Jewish hatred that's in
- 8:16Speaker 2: our midsts, even in our schools, funded of course, in
- 8:21Speaker 2: part by taxpayers. Let's see if the education law enforcement
- 8:26Speaker 2: or government powers do anything about this. Sadly, if the
- 8:31Speaker 2: past fifteen months or any guide, they won't. We need
- 8:35Speaker 2: to be very worried about where this country is going.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Just on the Middle East, there are strong hopes of
- 8:44Speaker 2: a significant cease fire ideal being struck between Israel and
- 8:48Speaker 2: Humas in the next few days or even in the
- 8:51Speaker 2: next few hours. This could be the end of the war.
- 8:54Speaker 2: It could mean the release of surviving hostages and the
- 8:58Speaker 2: return of the bodies of others.
- 9:01Speaker 6: We are close to a deal and it can get
- 9:03Speaker 6: done this week.
- 9:05Speaker 8: I'm not making a promise or a prediction, but it
- 9:07Speaker 8: is there for the taking and we are going to
- 9:09Speaker 8: work to make it happen.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Now. This could be very good news, of course, so
- 9:13Speaker 2: long as Hummas terrorists are not left in place, and
- 9:16Speaker 2: so long as Hummas is demolished. Let's hope so, and
- 9:20Speaker 2: the sooner the better. Of course, if it happens in
- 9:23Speaker 2: the next little while, it will of course be the
- 9:25Speaker 2: final act of the Biden administration. But if that happens,
- 9:30Speaker 2: we all know why it will have happened, and it
- 9:32Speaker 2: will have had nothing to do with the week Biden
- 9:35Speaker 2: administration and all to do with Joe Biden's predecessor and
- 9:39Speaker 2: soon to be successor.
- 9:42Speaker 9: If those hostages aren't back, I don't want to hurt
- 9:45Speaker 9: your negotiation. If they're not back by the time I
- 9:48Speaker 9: get into office, all hell will break out in the
- 9:51Speaker 9: Middle East, and it will not be good for Hamas,
- 9:55Speaker 9: and it will not be good, frankly, for anyone.
- 9:57Speaker 1: All hell will break out.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That was Donald Trump's threats. He will be inaugurated early
- 10:03Speaker 2: next week. And it's clear the world is being reshaped
- 10:07Speaker 2: right now by Donald Trump, even before he's inaugurated back
- 10:12Speaker 2: into the White House. Now, all this political weakness we
- 10:18Speaker 2: see around us, all this muddle headedness, it thrives mainly
- 10:22Speaker 2: because people just don't think. They just go along with
- 10:25Speaker 2: the flow, with the fashions, I suppose. And there's been
- 10:28Speaker 2: a classic example of this lately involving the funeral of
- 10:32Speaker 2: former President Jimmy Carter and the classic John Lennon hit. Imagine. Now,
- 10:37Speaker 2: I happened to be in the US over the past
- 10:39Speaker 2: three weeks, and I was there at the Capitol with
- 10:42Speaker 2: my family to watch Carter's casket marched out for his funeral.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We watched a little bit of history playing out before
- 10:48Speaker 2: our very eyes, and I happened to be a John
- 10:51Speaker 2: Lennon fan. So a week or so earlier, I'd taken
- 10:53Speaker 2: one of my boys on a walk in New York
- 10:56Speaker 2: Central Park and I showed him the imagined memorial and
- 10:59Speaker 2: pointed out where Lenin lived and of course was shot.
- 11:02Speaker 2: But anyway, back in DC, watching the Carter funeral ceremony
- 11:06Speaker 2: on television, I thought it was pretty bizarre that one
- 11:10Speaker 2: particular John Lennon song got a run. Imagine, there's no.
- 11:20Speaker 10: It isn't do do earthing to kill ood, no religion.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Now, even as a Lenin fan, you've got to admit
- 11:42Speaker 2: those words are dross and it was the wrong place
- 11:45Speaker 2: and the wrong occasion. Apart from Carter, who of course
- 11:49Speaker 2: is a committed Christian, there were five living presidents there, Biden, Trump, Bush, Clinton,
- 11:55Speaker 2: and Obama, and all five of them professed to be
- 11:58Speaker 2: Christians too Carter. All five of them also were pledged
- 12:03Speaker 2: first and foremost to protect the sovereign nation of the
- 12:07Speaker 2: United States. Yet the song at the funeral wishes away
- 12:11Speaker 2: both religion and fighting for your country. Anyway, I was
- 12:15Speaker 2: pleased to see that I was not the only ones
- 12:17Speaker 2: struck by this contradiction. Michael Jensen, a Sydney Anglican priest
- 12:22Speaker 2: wrote in the Daily Telegraph that Carter was a good man,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but this was a poor song choice. It's a weird
- 12:28Speaker 2: choice for the overt believer that Carter was, said Jensen.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Imagine is a song of yearning for a world without
- 12:35Speaker 2: religion and an afterlife. It's not quite an atheist fantasy,
- 12:39Speaker 2: but it is close. Yeah, well said, And as I mentioned,
- 12:43Speaker 2: it also yearns for a world without nation states perish
- 12:47Speaker 2: the thought. Imagine also isn't too keen on material possessions.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Imagine possession wonder Now, Jimmy Carter was a generous and
- 13:06Speaker 2: compassionate soul, but he had a farm, a house, and
- 13:09Speaker 2: lots of other stuff. And the other five living presidents
- 13:13Speaker 2: certainly hold a fair hall of worldly possessions too. I
- 13:17Speaker 2: just reckon that when we use songs for significant occasions,
- 13:20Speaker 2: we might think about the lyrics and engage our brains
- 13:24Speaker 2: as well as our hearts. Now, okay, you might say
- 13:27Speaker 2: I'm a dreamer, but now you know that I'm not
- 13:30Speaker 2: the only one. Okay, let's go to the Middle East
- 13:36Speaker 2: issues and the way I affect us here in Australia too.
- 13:38Speaker 2: And I'm joined again by Mike Kelly, the former Labor minister,
- 13:41Speaker 2: who joins me live from Canberra. Good to talk to
- 13:43Speaker 2: you again, Mike. First up, these very public revelations now
- 13:49Speaker 2: that there is a closeness to a deal on the
- 13:52Speaker 2: Middle East, that the US is involved in negotiations, but
- 13:56Speaker 2: Humas and Israel might strike a deal. Thoughts on those
- 14:01Speaker 2: prospects and whether it's been accelerated by the looming presidency
- 14:05Speaker 2: of Donald Trump.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Yeah, look, Chris, it's encouraging a course.
- 14:10Speaker 6: We've been here before though, and so really do hope
- 14:13Speaker 6: that this time we see that delivered on of course,
- 14:17Speaker 6: you know, all of this could be resolved quite simply
- 14:19Speaker 6: and quickly in terms of the ongoing fighting as well,
- 14:22Speaker 6: if Hamas would just lay down its arms and hand
- 14:25Speaker 6: over the hostages, and that would end the suffering that
- 14:28Speaker 6: we've seen in Gaza.
- 14:30Speaker 4: But of course they.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Haven't been concerned at all about the suffering of their
- 14:33Speaker 6: own people, and in fact have been instrumental in inflicting
- 14:36Speaker 6: that suffering.
- 14:38Speaker 2: This is the trouble, of course, Sorry they're interrupted. This
- 14:40Speaker 2: is of course, this is what I think should have
- 14:42Speaker 2: been the global theme from day one. No negotiations, just
- 14:46Speaker 2: Hamas should be laying down their arms, surrendering, returning the hostages,
- 14:49Speaker 2: and for fifteen months that should have been the unified
- 14:52Speaker 2: call of the of the civilized world. But are you
- 14:56Speaker 2: concerned that a possible peace deal could still give in
- 15:00Speaker 2: so to any Hamas demands either freeing some terrorist prisoners
- 15:03Speaker 2: or leaving some of their people in the positions of authority.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Yeah, this is always the dilemma that Israel's been in
- 15:10Speaker 6: many times over the years and has been forced to
- 15:13Speaker 6: release people that really any other government would be very
- 15:16Speaker 6: hesitant to have let loose on the streets again. And
- 15:20Speaker 6: perfect example of that is a Yahia Sinwa himself, who commanded,
- 15:24Speaker 6: led and directed the horrendous October the seventh attacks. He
- 15:29Speaker 6: was formerly in Israeli custody and in fact they gave
- 15:32Speaker 6: him life saving brain surgery, and how were they rewarded
- 15:36Speaker 6: for that by him leading that attack and the ongoing
- 15:39Speaker 6: war that was happening in Gaza. So, you know, it's
- 15:42Speaker 6: a terrible dilemma that they get placed in. We could
- 15:45Speaker 6: all do a lot more to help them by, as
- 15:47Speaker 6: you say, Chris, some very important point that if the
- 15:51Speaker 6: international community was united and had clear voices on this,
- 15:55Speaker 6: then you know, their.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Whole pack of cards would collapse.
- 15:58Speaker 6: They build all of this strategy around it, international propaganda
- 16:02Speaker 6: effort to position themselves to be the martyrs and to
- 16:06Speaker 6: be the people that are on the side of right
- 16:08Speaker 6: that the world needs to get behind. But fortunately, just
- 16:12Speaker 6: recently that cat has been build by very clear statements
- 16:16Speaker 6: coming from both the Global Imam's Council, which has over
- 16:19Speaker 6: fifteen hundred imarms involved in it, which blamed Hummas squarely
- 16:23Speaker 6: for the current war, the destruction, the suffering that's been
- 16:27Speaker 6: inflicted on the Palestinians. They put all that blame on
- 16:30Speaker 6: Iran and Hamas and called for the release of hostages.
- 16:34Speaker 6: And now just a couple of days ago we've seen Futza,
- 16:37Speaker 6: the ruly party of the Palestinian authority, absolutely echo those
- 16:41Speaker 6: sentiments and say that and I quote Hamas sacrificed the
- 16:45Speaker 6: interest of the Palestinian people for Iran and caused the
- 16:49Speaker 6: destruction in the Gaza strip.
- 16:51Speaker 2: So that's some moral clarity there from an unusual source.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hopeful signs there. Now, you've been very critical of your
- 16:59Speaker 2: own party, this Islian labor party in government, the way
- 17:01Speaker 2: they've abandoned Israel. The Attorney General Mark Dreyfus, a Jewish Man,
- 17:05Speaker 2: himself is going to Israel next week. Here's what the
- 17:08Speaker 2: Prime Minister had to say about that. Today people regularly visit.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Friendly nations and there's nothing surprising about that. The Attorney
- 17:19Speaker 3: General was due to go in October. Due to what
- 17:24Speaker 3: was happening on the ground there with attacks from the
- 17:31Speaker 3: terrorist organization hesblah, that visit didn't go ahead down was
- 17:36Speaker 3: deferred until January. And the Attorney General is, I think,
- 17:42Speaker 3: on his way to Israel today and he'll have our
- 17:46Speaker 3: own to meetings.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Oh, Anthony Ibanezi. There, as usual, a lot of words
- 17:50Speaker 2: saying absolutely nothing at all. How do you think Mark
- 17:53Speaker 2: Dreyfus is going to go explaining Australia's voting in the
- 17:57Speaker 2: United Nations. It's abandonment of Israel there, it's rejection of
- 18:01Speaker 2: visits by an Israeli minister. It's an history of tourist
- 18:05Speaker 2: visas to people from Gaza. I mean, there's a long
- 18:09Speaker 2: list to explain. Do you think Drapus will have any success?
- 18:14Speaker 6: Well, I really sincerely hope so, Chris, you know, and
- 18:17Speaker 6: I welcome his visit.
- 18:19Speaker 4: There's a lot of fences to be mended in that visit.
- 18:22Speaker 6: And just coming back to our earlier point, I'm deeply
- 18:25Speaker 6: shocked and just so disappointed in the government for having
- 18:29Speaker 6: voted for.
- 18:29Speaker 4: That last year and resolution.
- 18:31Speaker 6: It's mainly because it didn't condition to ceasefire on the
- 18:35Speaker 6: release of the hostages, which is a.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Complete abandonment of them.
- 18:39Speaker 6: But now you know, we've got a situation where all
- 18:42Speaker 6: of the dots have been.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Joined in the Middle East.
- 18:44Speaker 6: If anybody doesn't now recognize all of the real dynamics
- 18:48Speaker 6: that we're going on, the central role of Iran, the
- 18:51Speaker 6: role it played in destabilizing and torturing the peoples of
- 18:55Speaker 6: Syria and Lebanon, and the interference in Iraq, the terror
- 19:00Speaker 6: of all conflicts in Yemen, and what Hamas and has
- 19:03Speaker 6: Blara have been up to.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Now that has been completely revealed.
- 19:07Speaker 6: And what the IDF has done is given the world
- 19:10Speaker 6: an opportunity through their tremendous sacrifice.
- 19:13Speaker 4: There's been over eighteen thousand members.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Of the IDF have been wounded and some several times
- 19:18Speaker 6: in this war, and they've lost hundreds of soldiers killed,
- 19:21Speaker 6: and that has given the world the opportunity to recast
- 19:25Speaker 6: the Middle East situation. If they only have the guts,
- 19:29Speaker 6: the moral clarity, and the fortitude to go in there
- 19:33Speaker 6: now and really take a forceful action in corralling Iran
- 19:38Speaker 6: and assisting the people of Syria and Lebanon, Iraq and
- 19:43Speaker 6: the Gazans.
- 19:45Speaker 4: To a new world.
- 19:47Speaker 2: That's got to be the strong hope, Mike, just briefly,
- 19:50Speaker 2: given all that, do you believe that Labor will lose
- 19:53Speaker 2: votes because of its weakness on Israel at the upcoming election?
- 19:57Speaker 4: Look, Chris, I'm absolutely certain of that.
- 20:00Speaker 6: And I've watched this play out now internationally several times,
- 20:03Speaker 6: and we're watching it play out in Canada right now.
- 20:05Speaker 6: And those who are clear voiced about standing up to
- 20:08Speaker 6: Islamist extremism, to standing up to anti Semitism and doing
- 20:12Speaker 6: something forceful about it, they're the ones who are getting
- 20:15Speaker 6: rewarded by their electorates. And we've seen it play out
- 20:18Speaker 6: here in Queensland where for the first time the Hindu
- 20:21Speaker 6: Council stepped forward and said, look, we're not happy.
- 20:24Speaker 4: With Labor, they're not doing enough on Islamist extremism.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Because all these groups Hindu's, Buddhist Seeks, Christians, the Ties, Filipinos,
- 20:33Speaker 6: Pacific Islanders, Persians and the traditional Australians all understand what
- 20:37Speaker 6: Islamist extremism is about. I've been on the receiving end
- 20:40Speaker 6: of it. Austraints killed in Bali, for example, and so
- 20:44Speaker 6: they know that if you don't choke this off now,
- 20:47Speaker 6: it's not just synagogues that will be burning, It'll be
- 20:49Speaker 6: temples and churches next. So the government is losing ground
- 20:55Speaker 6: in relation to its credibility on national security by not
- 20:58Speaker 6: doing enough in this. It's great now that they're speaking
- 21:02Speaker 6: out about it and they've referred to Hezbolla as a
- 21:05Speaker 6: terrorist organization, but domestically, we need to be making it
- 21:09Speaker 6: very clear to organizations like so called Labor Friends of
- 21:12Speaker 6: Palestine that they're fomenting the sorts of violence and vandalism
- 21:18Speaker 6: and escalation that we're seeing in our country through not
- 21:21Speaker 6: being forceful and not making sure that the right frameworks
- 21:25Speaker 6: and agency activity is taking place to choke this off
- 21:30Speaker 6: right now.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Mike Kelly wise words, thanks so much for joining us.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I appreciate it, Mike Kelly. They're the former Labor minister,
- 21:37Speaker 2: former army veteran as well, giving it a very very
- 21:41Speaker 2: sensible perspective from the Labor Party. If only more in
- 21:45Speaker 2: the Labor Party would listen, Let's go to the other
- 21:48Speaker 2: side of the political ale now and catch up with
- 21:49Speaker 2: Anne Ruston, who's the shadow Health Minister. She joins me
- 21:52Speaker 2: live from Adelaide. Thanks for joining us. And I think
- 21:56Speaker 2: it's a sign of the times or the bizarre place
- 21:59Speaker 2: that the have to politics and put themselves in. I
- 22:01Speaker 2: think that Peter Dutton's wholesome support for Australia Day has
- 22:07Speaker 2: created some sort of a political conundrum for Anthony ALBERESI
- 22:11Speaker 2: he can't bring himself to match this support for our
- 22:14Speaker 2: National Day.
- 22:17Speaker 11: Yeah, it's a completely unbelievable situation where our Prime Minister
- 22:23Speaker 11: of the country lacks the capacity to show any leadership
- 22:26Speaker 11: whatsoever about our National Day. And so many Australians, whether
- 22:31Speaker 11: they be Australia, our first Australians, or people who've come
- 22:35Speaker 11: to this country subsequently, those that have recently arrived, those
- 22:38Speaker 11: of us that have been here for a long time.
- 22:40Speaker 11: I wan, we take pride in our country and I
- 22:42Speaker 11: think what it reflects is that there are obviously some
- 22:44Speaker 11: people in the Labor Party, as there are in other
- 22:47Speaker 11: political parties, who are actually ashamed of Australia. And that
- 22:50Speaker 11: makes me really really sad, really sad, because it's not
- 22:53Speaker 11: to say that we don't have to accept that there
- 22:55Speaker 11: were some things that happened in our past that aren't great,
- 22:58Speaker 11: but we have to celebrate that. We're fantastic multicultural nation.
- 23:01Speaker 11: We're the best nation on earth as far as I'm concerned.
- 23:04Speaker 11: And we've got a Prime Minister that can't bring himself
- 23:06Speaker 11: to actually say how great the country he leeds actually is.
- 23:09Speaker 11: It's just quite bizarre.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're absolutely right. There are problems in
- 23:14Speaker 2: our past and problems in our present and all the
- 23:16Speaker 2: rest of it, and we can be robust enough to
- 23:18Speaker 2: discuss them. But you think seriously around the world and
- 23:22Speaker 2: examine the place, find the country with not just a
- 23:26Speaker 2: better current situation, but a more benevolent history. Really, it's
- 23:30Speaker 2: harder to find. I mean, who would you throw into
- 23:33Speaker 2: that category? Maybe the New Zealanders could give us a
- 23:36Speaker 2: run for our money. I don't know.
- 23:40Speaker 11: Look, I'm sure you'll probably find a little country here
- 23:43Speaker 11: or there. But having had the privilege of traveling to
- 23:46Speaker 11: many countries around the world, I've got to say, the
- 23:48Speaker 11: one thing that you always like at the end of
- 23:49Speaker 11: your holiday or end of your business trips, you're getting
- 23:52Speaker 11: on a plane, hopefully a Quantus jet, and you're flying
- 23:54Speaker 11: back to Australia I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yes, sing it. Now, let's get back to your portfolio.
- 24:00Speaker 2: It's very clear already that Labor will attempt to run
- 24:03Speaker 2: a medi scare again. They seem to do it every election.
- 24:06Speaker 2: The Coalition are going to somehow attack Medicare. But how's
- 24:10Speaker 2: it performing under Labor. I don't think bolk billing rates
- 24:14Speaker 2: are going particularly well under Labor, are they.
- 24:18Speaker 11: Well, this is the ridiculousness of the position that the
- 24:20Speaker 11: Labor Party is taking and I can only imagine that
- 24:23Speaker 11: the reason that they're throwing out this medi scare campaign
- 24:25Speaker 11: and they're being more and more blatant about the lives
- 24:28Speaker 11: that they're telling around it. I mean, it's not just
- 24:31Speaker 11: trying to fiddle with the truth. They are actually flat
- 24:33Speaker 11: out lying about the record of the Coalition government because
- 24:38Speaker 11: they're trying to cover up for the fact that they
- 24:40Speaker 11: have absolutely failed. In the two and a half years
- 24:43Speaker 11: that they've been in government, every metric that we measure
- 24:47Speaker 11: our healthcare system by has gone backwards. You know, Bolk
- 24:50Speaker 11: billings dropped by eleven percent. We've seen the highest ad
- 24:52Speaker 11: of pocket costs that have ever been you know that
- 24:56Speaker 11: Australians have ever paid to see a doctor. One point
- 24:59Speaker 11: five Millionustralians last year actually said they didn't visit a
- 25:03Speaker 11: doctor because they said they couldn't afford to do so.
- 25:06Speaker 11: And I mean at a state and territory level, you've
- 25:08Speaker 11: only got to look at the ramping crisis and all
- 25:11Speaker 11: of this can be laid firmly at the feet of
- 25:13Speaker 11: this government because of their crisis that they have created
- 25:17Speaker 11: in primary care. So no amount of lies, no amount
- 25:20Speaker 11: of spin, no maun of scare campaigns can detract from
- 25:23Speaker 11: the facts. And the facts are this government has done
- 25:25Speaker 11: a worst job of any government I have ever seen
- 25:28Speaker 11: when it comes to healthcare.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll keep looking at that in the build up
- 25:32Speaker 2: to the election. Thanks for joining us, how I appreciate it.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And rust In they're live from Adelaide. We had to
- 25:36Speaker 2: go to a break on the other side and going
- 25:38Speaker 2: to catch up with Kristen Tate in the US because
- 25:40Speaker 2: while President elect Trump has been preparing for the inauguration
- 25:44Speaker 2: first Lady returning First Lady Millennia, Trump has promised to
- 25:48Speaker 2: save taxpayers money. As we discussed yesterday, long before the
- 25:56Speaker 2: Los Angeles fires are even being close to being extinguished,
- 26:00Speaker 2: the political firefight has been quite hot over the fires.
- 26:03Speaker 2: There's plenty to be examined, of course, when it comes
- 26:05Speaker 2: to fuel loads and planning and water supplies and funding
- 26:09Speaker 2: of firefighters and all the rest of it. In California
- 26:12Speaker 2: and Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom is in the frame. But
- 26:15Speaker 2: Donald Trump has not only attacked Tim but the whole
- 26:18Speaker 2: firefighting effort, posting that the fires are still raging. The
- 26:22Speaker 2: incompetent politicians have no idea how to put them out.
- 26:26Speaker 2: It's one of the worst catastrophes in the country's history.
- 26:29Speaker 2: They just can't put out the fires. What's wrong with them?
- 26:32Speaker 2: It's typical Trump right, just sway over the top. But
- 26:35Speaker 2: in the US Christen Tates on side with the President elect.
- 26:40Speaker 8: Well, Trump is absolutely right. These disasters are the results
- 26:46Speaker 8: in large part of poor management from the top. Leaders
- 26:50Speaker 8: knew that this could happen in California, and yet they
- 26:53Speaker 8: chose in action, distraction, and virtue signaling over protecting their
- 26:57Speaker 8: own citizens. California got a ton of last year, which
- 27:01Speaker 8: led to over vegetation and a lot of growth, and
- 27:03Speaker 8: then we had a drought this year, so all of
- 27:06Speaker 8: that growth dried out. What does Gavin Newsom do? He
- 27:10Speaker 8: removes some dams, so there's no water there anymore. The
- 27:13Speaker 8: fire hydrants are literally empty. The La Mayor, Karen Bass,
- 27:18Speaker 8: she was all fin Africa for the inauguration of the
- 27:21Speaker 8: President of Ghana, nowhere to be found, even though she
- 27:24Speaker 8: knew this could likely happen. There could be some fires,
- 27:27Speaker 8: and then how do they respond by that by just
- 27:30Speaker 8: kind of shrugging and pointing and blaming others and blaming
- 27:34Speaker 8: climate change. I wrote a book a few years ago
- 27:36Speaker 8: Chris called the Liberal Invasion of Red State America. It
- 27:39Speaker 8: was about Californians moving to Texas. This wild flat fire
- 27:44Speaker 8: that has destroyed thousands of homes, has killed dozens of people,
- 27:48Speaker 8: is only going to speed up that trend significantly. I
- 27:52Speaker 8: have friends, very good friends, who live in the Palisades.
- 27:54Speaker 8: Their families lost everything. They're considering moving to Texas now
- 27:59Speaker 8: or just out of californ Warning because of this. These
- 28:01Speaker 8: folks can't afford to rebuild. Many of them don't have insurance.
- 28:05Speaker 8: And yes, a lot of this is due to pour
- 28:07Speaker 8: incompetent leadership at the top.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Look, there's no doubt that they're going to look at
- 28:11Speaker 2: what their practice is leading up to this. That's always
- 28:14Speaker 2: the case. Not enough backburning, not enough reduction of the
- 28:18Speaker 2: fuel loads. There's all of that. But for Trump to
- 28:20Speaker 2: say they should just put it out is just ridiculous.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You can't just put out bushfires like this. It's going
- 28:26Speaker 2: to take a while. In the end, they really need rain.
- 28:29Speaker 2: But anyway, he's stirring them up as usual. And I
- 28:33Speaker 2: think another interesting aspect of Donald Trump as pre prepared
- 28:36Speaker 2: for Trump two point zero after the inauguration next week
- 28:40Speaker 2: is his relationship with Elon Musk. You've written on our
- 28:43Speaker 2: website about how this could be problematic. I see all
- 28:48Speaker 2: sorts of trouble here too. Like Musk is very successful,
- 28:50Speaker 2: of course, and Trump's been wise to embrace him. They've
- 28:54Speaker 2: been in a symbiotic relationship really for the past a
- 28:58Speaker 2: year or so. But look at this tweet from Elon Musk.
- 29:02Speaker 2: He's had to go to Nigel Farage. The Reform Party
- 29:05Speaker 2: needs a new leader, he says. Farage doesn't have what
- 29:08Speaker 2: it takes now. The point is that he's so close
- 29:11Speaker 2: to Trump now that this looks like the Trump administration
- 29:14Speaker 2: is distancing itself from Nigel Farrage, doesn't it. We need
- 29:17Speaker 2: the clear delineation. Is this the Trump administration speaking or
- 29:21Speaker 2: is it just Elon Musk on a frolic.
- 29:25Speaker 8: You know, that's a good question. I suppose it's just
- 29:28Speaker 8: probably Elon Musk. But Trump needs to be careful with Musk.
- 29:31Speaker 8: Trump was given a very clear mandate by the American
- 29:33Speaker 8: people on November fifth. Right now, he has an historic
- 29:37Speaker 8: opportunity to secure the border, to restore law and order,
- 29:40Speaker 8: and to save our economy. And you know, we have
- 29:43Speaker 8: this conservative majority on the Supreme Court, we have a
- 29:46Speaker 8: Republican House and a Senate, and this this moment, this
- 29:49Speaker 8: is a once in a generation opportunity for President Trump.
- 29:52Speaker 8: We all know that midterm elections tend to favor the opposition,
- 29:56Speaker 8: so the Democrats could make gains and then Trump has
- 29:58Speaker 8: virtually no chance of me legislative accomplishments at at that point.
- 30:03Speaker 8: So he needs to act quickly and swiftly in that
- 30:05Speaker 8: first six months of his administration. And he can't let
- 30:09Speaker 8: anyone get in the way of that, even people like
- 30:11Speaker 8: Elon Musk. Let's not forget Musk is not really a conservative.
- 30:15Speaker 8: He has a very mixed track record when it comes
- 30:17Speaker 8: to politics. His money was great in this campaign. He
- 30:21Speaker 8: absolutely helped Trump with his victory, but he is not
- 30:25Speaker 8: president Trump is president, and he must remember the mandate
- 30:29Speaker 8: he was given by the American people and not make
- 30:31Speaker 8: some of the mistakes from his last administration. He had
- 30:34Speaker 8: a phenomenal first term as president, However, there were some shortcomings,
- 30:38Speaker 8: and a lot of those shortcomings were because he was
- 30:40Speaker 8: trying to play nice nice with the media or the
- 30:43Speaker 8: elites or the donors. He can't do that this time, Chris.
- 30:46Speaker 8: He must move forward with his administrative goals.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Absolutely, I think Elon Musk reducing the size of government
- 30:54Speaker 2: is a fantastic idea, but also you got to be careful.
- 30:57Speaker 2: He's the richest businessman in the worlds he's own agenda,
- 31:01Speaker 2: and he can cut government spending great. But this is
- 31:03Speaker 2: a bloke who's actually built a lot of his wealth
- 31:06Speaker 2: on government subsidies and programs too. So I think that
- 31:09Speaker 2: relationship is fraught with difficulties in the months to come
- 31:13Speaker 2: for Donald Trump, we shall see you. One person we
- 31:15Speaker 2: don't often hear a lot from is the first Lady
- 31:18Speaker 2: about to be First Lady again, Millennia Trump. She's given
- 31:21Speaker 2: an interview to Fox News. She's talked about how she's
- 31:24Speaker 2: going to set up her office of the First Lady,
- 31:26Speaker 2: and she's very much on message.
- 31:28Speaker 12: Ever, listen, I establish my team. I have a few
- 31:33Speaker 12: positions that I still need to hire. I will not
- 31:36Speaker 12: rush into that. I will see when I'm in the
- 31:40Speaker 12: White House and what it's needed. I don't want to
- 31:44Speaker 12: hire too many people on my team and spending too
- 31:47Speaker 12: much taxpayer money.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah, she doesn't want to waste too much taxpayers money.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Kristen on message. Let's hope she sticks to it.
- 31:56Speaker 8: This is great. You know, I don't care for first
- 31:58Speaker 8: ladies who get to involved in politics. We don't vote
- 32:02Speaker 8: for the first lady or the we don't vote for
- 32:05Speaker 8: the family members of these presidents. We vote for the
- 32:08Speaker 8: man who is in the oval office, which is Donald Trump.
- 32:12Speaker 8: So I think this is the right move for Milania.
- 32:14Speaker 8: And as usual, she's so graceful. It'll be great to
- 32:18Speaker 8: have her back in the White House. And you know,
- 32:20Speaker 8: I'm sure the thing she does do will be fabulous.
- 32:22Speaker 8: But I like this idea of kind of scaling down
- 32:24Speaker 8: the office of the first lie.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Absolutely, let's just have a look at something else she
- 32:28Speaker 2: had to say.
- 32:29Speaker 12: I think it will be an exciting four years. We
- 32:33Speaker 12: have a lot to do and put a country back
- 32:37Speaker 12: in shape.
- 32:38Speaker 2: We'll be an exciting, four years full of sure Christin.
- 32:42Speaker 2: And one thing I'm excited about is being there next
- 32:44Speaker 2: week with you, meeting up with you for the first
- 32:46Speaker 2: time in the flash as we the inauguration, the second
- 32:51Speaker 2: inauguration of Donald Trump. It should be fantastic.
- 32:55Speaker 8: It's sure to be historic, Chris. I'm really looking forward
- 32:58Speaker 8: to it.
- 32:58Speaker 2: See you next week here, don't miss that. We'll bring
- 33:02Speaker 2: you the inauguration live here on Sky News in the
- 33:05Speaker 2: early hours of Tuesday morning. But I'll be bringing the
- 33:08Speaker 2: show to you all week live from freezing and dark Washington,
- 33:13Speaker 2: d C. It's going to be a hoot. But as
- 33:15Speaker 2: for now, we're going to take a break on the
- 33:16Speaker 2: other side. I'm going to cross back to the States,
- 33:18Speaker 2: the other side of the States, the Los Angeles and
- 33:20Speaker 2: get an update on the fires. Plus so I'm going
- 33:23Speaker 2: to show you how climate activists have defaced Charles Darwin's grave.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Now it's a week today since those terrible fires started
- 33:35Speaker 2: in Los Angeles. At least twenty four people have been killed.
- 33:38Speaker 2: That number is certain to rise as they go through
- 33:40Speaker 2: the damaged town homes as thousands of properties destroyed. So
- 33:45Speaker 2: there are still concerns at the moment that dangerous winds
- 33:48Speaker 2: could be whipped up over the next couple of days
- 33:50Speaker 2: and create even more damage. Let's go to Analyse Nilson
- 33:52Speaker 2: again live from Pacific Palisades. Good to talk to you again. Analyse.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Tell us about the outlook about winds, the concerns about
- 33:59Speaker 2: the winds up again, and also arrests of people unbelievably
- 34:03Speaker 2: looting some of the damage properties.
- 34:09Speaker 13: Oh, Chris, it has been a major story. But to
- 34:11Speaker 13: your first point, yes, there are warnings that this could
- 34:15Speaker 13: be a resurgence in the two firefronts that have been
- 34:19Speaker 13: bearing down on Los Angeles over the last weeks. The
- 34:21Speaker 13: Eastern Fire and the Palisades Fire which ripped through where
- 34:24Speaker 13: we are now, are both still technically out of control.
- 34:29Speaker 13: And the concern is that there are forecasts for higher winds. Yes,
- 34:32Speaker 13: there are forecasts for rains which could also make it
- 34:35Speaker 13: more difficult for recovery and all those people who are
- 34:39Speaker 13: doing things like going to the donation drives where we
- 34:41Speaker 13: were this morning, all outdoors that could all be hampered
- 34:44Speaker 13: at the same time. As we know well in Australia,
- 34:46Speaker 13: rain often comes with lightning, so that's an issue. As
- 34:49Speaker 13: for looting, it is still a live issue. We are
- 34:52Speaker 13: in the Pacific Palisades right now. We had to go
- 34:54Speaker 13: through two different security checkpoints to get where we are.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 34:58Speaker 13: You can see there's patrols of different vehicles. This is
- 35:01Speaker 13: fire and they are going around doing all those kind
- 35:04Speaker 13: of managing of potential outreach, but to the point of looting.
- 35:10Speaker 13: I wanted to show you behind us. This is the
- 35:12Speaker 13: Pacific Palisades Mall that's owned by a billionaire, so he
- 35:15Speaker 13: had his own private firefighters rescue it. And it's all
- 35:19Speaker 13: high end stores, the best designer stores. And that is
- 35:21Speaker 13: the National Guard sitting out front twenty four to seven
- 35:24Speaker 13: because they're worried about looters, and so this is where
- 35:27Speaker 13: we're at. We have the National Guard out on the
- 35:29Speaker 13: ground across Los Angeles to try and dissuade any potential looters.
- 35:33Speaker 13: And we've seen people trying to get through the checkpoints
- 35:36Speaker 13: that look very suspicious. We've seen it. There's been a
- 35:39Speaker 13: number of arrests. Nine now. The District Attorney said that
- 35:42Speaker 13: they're coming out and promising that they're going to prosecute
- 35:45Speaker 13: people to the full extent of the law. But Fox
- 35:47Speaker 13: News captured someone being arrested and then let go. This
- 35:51Speaker 13: is what we're talking about when it comes to dissuading
- 35:53Speaker 13: people to do this is enforcement is the big issue,
- 35:56Speaker 13: and this is going to go for days on end.
- 35:58Speaker 13: And it's another reason why so many residents can't get
- 36:01Speaker 13: back to their own homes. The people we've spoken to,
- 36:03Speaker 13: can't get their prescription medications, have had issues accessing their pets.
- 36:08Speaker 13: And it's because that is one of the security issues
- 36:11Speaker 13: that they're talking about. It's not just gas leaks and
- 36:13Speaker 13: live wires, it's loosers.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, how disgusting, how frustrating for everybody involved. Thanks Analyse.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Let's hope that there's no more win. Let's hope that
- 36:24Speaker 2: Hughey sends a bit down. That's what everybody needs. Appreciate
- 36:28Speaker 2: you staying up for us. Analyse Nilsen there live from
- 36:31Speaker 2: Pacific Palisades, just there north of Los Angeles and northern
- 36:35Speaker 2: parts of Los Angeles. Le's go to Tim Blair now
- 36:37Speaker 2: live in the Wimmera in Victoria. Good to catch up
- 36:39Speaker 2: with you, mate, Welcome to twenty twenty five. And it's
- 36:44Speaker 2: nice for you and I to catch up. But it
- 36:46Speaker 2: doesn't seem that Anthony Albani it's very keen to catch
- 36:51Speaker 2: up with Donald Trump. He doesn't seem to have any
- 36:52Speaker 2: plans in his diary to try to speak to the
- 36:55Speaker 2: new leader of the free world. Do you think me
- 36:57Speaker 2: pretty high on your priority, especially when you've got issues
- 37:00Speaker 2: like Aucust to deal with. But he said, oh, I
- 37:02Speaker 2: might see him at the quad, which probably won't happen
- 37:05Speaker 2: until after the election anyway.
- 37:08Speaker 14: Yeah, I think people sort of forget as well that
- 37:11Speaker 14: the albanesey was a big Biden guy. He wasn't just
- 37:15Speaker 14: you know, supporting that side of politics. He personally was
- 37:17Speaker 14: very invested in the whole Biden project. I remember during
- 37:21Speaker 14: the speech prior to the last year Lewis election, US election, sorry,
- 37:24Speaker 14: the twenty twenty election, and Biden gave the sorry Alberanezi
- 37:28Speaker 14: gave this little fist bump of you know, Joe Biden.
- 37:31Speaker 14: So he was all he was all deep in with
- 37:33Speaker 14: Joe and met him several times, as any photo library
- 37:37Speaker 14: in the any newspaper will tell you. And then Joe
- 37:41Speaker 14: kind of left everybody in a way during the last
- 37:43Speaker 14: election campaign. And he's stuck with Donald Trump, with whom
- 37:47Speaker 14: about whom he said some words over the past past
- 37:50Speaker 14: a few whiles. Yes, he's a bit strife.
- 37:52Speaker 2: He sure has. They all have Now the other delicious
- 37:55Speaker 2: prospect of all this is going to the inauguration to
- 37:58Speaker 2: present Australia will be Penny Wong and she'll be hosted
- 38:01Speaker 2: by Kevin Rudd. Those two have cross swords in the past,
- 38:05Speaker 2: and of course they're both well known Trump haters. Have
- 38:08Speaker 2: a look at this cartoon by John Spooner in the
- 38:10Speaker 2: Australian Toay Fantastic Carts and she's got Any Wong there
- 38:14Speaker 2: with the Palestinian scarf on and the wedding can't fit
- 38:18Speaker 2: the manga hat over the top of it, says the
- 38:20Speaker 2: deft officials. I mean, this is the point both Trump
- 38:23Speaker 2: and Wog have to absolutely pretend that they're in there
- 38:27Speaker 2: supporting the Trump ceremony.
- 38:31Speaker 14: Penny Wong and Kevin right. I mean, has this nation
- 38:34Speaker 14: ever generated two greater diplomats to two people at the
- 38:38Speaker 14: absolute peak of their game in smoothing over, smoothing over
- 38:42Speaker 14: issues and bringing bringing people. Always talking about bringing nations
- 38:46Speaker 14: together and how leaders can bring a whole whole company's
- 38:48Speaker 14: whole disparate communities together. Rudd and Wang can't bring could
- 38:53Speaker 14: historically never bring together their own individual stuff.
- 38:57Speaker 2: They can bring together the game before.
- 39:00Speaker 14: Exactly everything they do is factionalized and split and divided.
- 39:06Speaker 14: So you know, I don't think this is going to
- 39:07Speaker 14: be just an awkward situation. It could be much worse.
- 39:10Speaker 14: We could We could could be coming out of this
- 39:12Speaker 14: subject to some unusual new Trump themed trade division. Who knows,
- 39:17Speaker 14: with with with Kevin and uh and Penny walk involved.
- 39:21Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to the moment where Kevin is sitting
- 39:23Speaker 2: next to Penny in the stands at the inauguration and
- 39:26Speaker 2: just calls her a splitter, very money.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Meanwhile, Joe Biden is talking climate change again. Have a
- 39:36Speaker 2: look at the outgoing president.
- 39:40Speaker 15: I know some incoming administration, some in the coming administration
- 39:46Speaker 15: are skeptical, but the need for clean energy. They don't
- 39:50Speaker 15: even believe climate change is real. I think they come
- 39:54Speaker 15: from a different century. They're wrong, They are dead wrong.
- 40:01Speaker 15: It's the single greatest extra central threat to humanity.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I suppose it is now that Joe Biden's gone,
- 40:07Speaker 2: but it shows you where he is basically telling the
- 40:09Speaker 2: American people they got it wrong by electing the new lot.
- 40:13Speaker 2: And you've got to wonder about these climate protests. Have
- 40:15Speaker 2: a look at this carry on in London where some
- 40:19Speaker 2: just stop oil activists have defaced Charles Darwin's grave, which
- 40:23Speaker 2: is inside Westminster Abbey. I thought we'd go to some
- 40:26Speaker 2: overlay there. Let's have a look at a clip of this.
- 40:31Speaker 16: Twenty twenty four was the hottest year on record. We
- 40:35Speaker 16: have already passed through the one point five degree that
- 40:39Speaker 16: we're supposed to keep us safe. Millions are being displaced,
- 40:44Speaker 16: California is on fire, and three quarters of all wildlife
- 40:49Speaker 16: has disappeared since the nineteen seventies.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Our government plans will bring us to three degrees of warming.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Good lord, a couple of till voters there, obviously. What
- 41:03Speaker 2: amuses me about this that they're they're facing Charles Darwin's
- 41:06Speaker 2: gray Well. I always think these protesters are living proof
- 41:09Speaker 2: that evolution peaked a decade or two ago.
- 41:13Speaker 14: That's right, Yeah, Charles Darwin who conceived of the entire
- 41:16Speaker 14: theory and backed it up with scientific rigor. And then
- 41:20Speaker 14: you've got these two haven't been bothered much by evolution
- 41:22Speaker 14: at all in their lives. And for these people and
- 41:27Speaker 14: for Biden to keep going on about California is that
- 41:31Speaker 14: this is a great proof of the evils of climate change.
- 41:34Speaker 14: California is entirely left wings. It's a massive left wing enterprise,
- 41:39Speaker 14: and I think that we should not ever lose track, lose, lose,
- 41:42Speaker 14: lose focus on the fact that they all believe in
- 41:47Speaker 14: climate change and did nothing to prevent buyers. If you
- 41:50Speaker 14: know that climate change, if you believe the climate change
- 41:53Speaker 14: is going to send awful flames and destruction to your community,
- 41:56Speaker 14: why wouldn't you clear brush, why would you remove fuel sources?
- 42:00Speaker 14: Did all the things? They didn't do these things. This
- 42:02Speaker 14: is a management disaster, not a climate disaster, and they
- 42:05Speaker 14: know it, which is why they've redoubled themandners.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they're driving Tesla's and that was going to
- 42:09Speaker 2: stop the bushfires supposedly. Thanks for joining us, Tim catch
- 42:13Speaker 2: up again later in the week, you got to take
- 42:15Speaker 2: a break. On the other side, we'll catch up with
- 42:16Speaker 2: Stephen Senter Tempo and Christy McSweeney get through some of
- 42:19Speaker 2: the issues of the day as the culture war over
- 42:21Speaker 2: Australia Day continues. Let's catch up with the issues of
- 42:29Speaker 2: the day with Steven Senate Tampa from Radio two Double
- 42:31Speaker 2: see the breakfast host. They're live in the nation's capital. Also,
- 42:34Speaker 2: Christy McSweeney, director of PR Council, joins us live from Perth.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Happy twenty twenty five to both of you, I tell
- 42:42Speaker 2: you what, as I mentioned earlier to Anne Rusted, it
- 42:44Speaker 2: does my head in though. But all you have to
- 42:47Speaker 2: do to put the Prime Minister on the back foot
- 42:49Speaker 2: in this country, Christy as oppositionally is say that you
- 42:52Speaker 2: support Australia though.
- 42:56Speaker 17: It's incredible, isn't it. So many councils, and I think
- 43:00Speaker 17: has come from a local government push now saying if
- 43:03Speaker 17: Peter Dutton changes to say councils have to have Australia
- 43:08Speaker 17: Day ceremonies on Australia Day, they want compensation. Now they're
- 43:12Speaker 17: sneakily blaming rising cost of staff and utilities and event
- 43:18Speaker 17: venues and the cost of putting these ceremonies on Australia
- 43:21Speaker 17: Day as a way of saying we want to leave
- 43:24Speaker 17: it open to wither in the wind, to virtue signal
- 43:28Speaker 17: to elements of our community that we might not want
- 43:31Speaker 17: to hold it on Australia Day. So sneaky blaming costs,
- 43:35Speaker 17: we really know this is a wishy washy position, so
- 43:38Speaker 17: they can see which way the wind blows.
- 43:40Speaker 2: As if any local council has ever been worried about costs,
- 43:43Speaker 2: Let's have a look at how Peter Dutton has been
- 43:45Speaker 2: really there's been dealing with this today. He's no slouch.
- 43:48Speaker 2: He's going to keep on this topic.
- 43:50Speaker 7: The Prime Minister said a signal to those councils that
- 43:53Speaker 7: Australia they didn't matter and that it was something to
- 43:55Speaker 7: be ashamed of. But the Prime Minister doesn't talk publicly
- 43:58Speaker 7: about that, but that's exactly what he did. So would
- 44:00Speaker 7: we reinstate the requirement for counsels to hold citizenship ceremonies
- 44:04Speaker 7: on Australi Day.
- 44:05Speaker 2: You bet it'll be done the first hundred days, Steven.
- 44:10Speaker 2: This is just to give me for it, isn't. I
- 44:11Speaker 2: mean that most of the country is just cheering him
- 44:14Speaker 2: and they can't understand why a prime minister has to
- 44:16Speaker 2: be wishy washy about his own country.
- 44:19Speaker 18: Well, the only thing I'm thankful about, Chris is that
- 44:21Speaker 18: the flag changes seem to come out earlier and earlier
- 44:24Speaker 18: every year. This is a bit lateful than to be
- 44:26Speaker 18: coming out with this kind of stuff. But look, I
- 44:28Speaker 18: think it's a rearguard action because they've read the tea
- 44:30Speaker 18: leaves and they've seen the polling that says that nearly
- 44:32Speaker 18: seventy percent of Australian support keeping Australia Day on the
- 44:35Speaker 18: twenty sixth of January. So now we've got to come
- 44:37Speaker 18: up with another excuse. It's not offensive anymore, it's too hot,
- 44:41Speaker 18: it costs too much.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I made fair, Nick.
- 44:43Speaker 18: It's it is just a blatant attempt to try and
- 44:48Speaker 18: maintain this rearguard action because Australia has had enough. I
- 44:51Speaker 18: mean even young people have waken up and said, you
- 44:53Speaker 18: know what, we don't want any of this rubbish anymore.
- 44:55Speaker 18: We're sick of being told we should be ashamed of
- 44:57Speaker 18: our country.
- 44:57Speaker 2: We're proud of it. We're going to eat our lamb
- 44:59Speaker 2: chops on the bar.
- 45:00Speaker 18: You're on the twenty six and well we should be
- 45:02Speaker 18: holding these citizenship ceremonies.
- 45:04Speaker 1: But what it does this is a slap.
- 45:05Speaker 18: In the face to people who want to become citizens
- 45:08Speaker 18: of Australia and who are proud of the country that
- 45:10Speaker 18: they're about to join, and want to do it on
- 45:12Speaker 18: Australia Day. And these muppets from local government think that
- 45:15Speaker 18: they know better.
- 45:16Speaker 2: They want to become Australians on Australia Day so they
- 45:19Speaker 2: have the right to bo pineapple on pizza. That's what
- 45:22Speaker 2: it's all about. I don't now. I don't know whether
- 45:26Speaker 2: you got I don't know whether you guys were able
- 45:28Speaker 2: to see what I had to say at the start
- 45:29Speaker 2: of the show, where I was critical as others have been,
- 45:33Speaker 2: I was pleased to see about Garth Brooks singing at
- 45:36Speaker 2: Jimmy Carter's funeral the song imagined from John Lennon, which
- 45:40Speaker 2: rails against religion and against countries and Christie. This is
- 45:45Speaker 2: nuts because Jimmy Carter was a faithful Christian, and so
- 45:49Speaker 2: the other five living presidents there they all say they're Christians,
- 45:52Speaker 2: and they all say their first duty is to protect
- 45:54Speaker 2: the United States of America. And here they are singing
- 45:57Speaker 2: about let's get rid of religion and country.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Well, it's really weird, isn't it.
- 46:02Speaker 2: John Lennon, of.
- 46:03Speaker 17: Course, was an activist against many government initiatives, including the
- 46:07Speaker 17: government of the day during the Vietnam War. He's been
- 46:11Speaker 17: an activist against the Republican Party for a long time
- 46:16Speaker 17: in the United States, and they traveled across the pond.
- 46:19Speaker 1: It's really really.
- 46:21Speaker 17: Interesting that this was chosen. Garth Brooks himself an amazing
- 46:25Speaker 17: country music start by the way, a huge fan, but
- 46:29Speaker 17: his base, I mean the country music based in America
- 46:33Speaker 17: is very much known for being Trump voters as well.
- 46:37Speaker 17: There's a huge crossover there. Odd choice and I don't
- 46:40Speaker 17: know how it got past the protocol paper. I mean,
- 46:43Speaker 17: we wouldn't do that in Australia. Well, you and I
- 46:45Speaker 17: would be looking at that in the PM's office.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Going what's that?
- 46:50Speaker 2: Maybe Jimmy catt I loved it, but you know, it
- 46:53Speaker 2: just jarred and it was a bit silly. But anyway,
- 46:56Speaker 2: he was a good man. I agree with all those centemis.
- 46:59Speaker 2: There was a good man and he is just a
- 47:00Speaker 2: terrible president. Let's stick on the music theme though, and
- 47:03Speaker 2: the next president. Before I come to you, Steve, and
- 47:07Speaker 2: just have a look at this, because we all know
- 47:09Speaker 2: this tune now and this dance. It's just hilarious. And
- 47:31Speaker 2: one of the things I love about this Trump dances
- 47:33Speaker 2: that are so easy to do. And I can't wait
- 47:36Speaker 2: to go to the inauguration next week. And the big
- 47:39Speaker 2: news today is Stephen, is that the Village People are
- 47:42Speaker 2: going to be there as well. They're going to be
- 47:44Speaker 2: playing at one of the inauguration events, at one of
- 47:46Speaker 2: the balls, So we're going to see the Trump dancing
- 47:49Speaker 2: to that live at some stage.
- 47:52Speaker 18: Well, they should bring Garth Brooks back to seeing his
- 47:54Speaker 18: biggest hit, which is Friends in Low Places. I think
- 47:56Speaker 18: that would have been a better attempt.
- 47:58Speaker 2: For him at the funeral.
- 47:59Speaker 18: But imagine at a funeral to the family of somebody
- 48:02Speaker 18: who's just died. The very opening line, imagine there's no heaven.
- 48:06Speaker 2: I mean goodness, me and I.
- 48:07Speaker 18: Share a birthday with Garth Brooks, by the way, But
- 48:09Speaker 18: that's beside the point. Look, I just think the whole
- 48:12Speaker 18: Trump entertainment circus has been absolutely fantastic. And whilst look,
- 48:17Speaker 18: I know Trumper by any stretch of the imagination, I
- 48:19Speaker 18: probably would have held my nose and voted for him
- 48:21Speaker 18: had I been in the United States. But the entertainment
- 48:24Speaker 18: value for the next four years is going to be extraordinary.
- 48:26Speaker 18: And look, I envy you going to the inauguration. I
- 48:28Speaker 18: can only imagine what kind of show it's going to be,
- 48:30Speaker 18: with the construction worker, the biker, the Indian of the cowboy,
- 48:34Speaker 18: that line.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Look, I was a teenager when the Village People first
- 48:38Speaker 2: came out, and it was never my cup of tea.
- 48:40Speaker 2: But I can't believe I'm excited about them injecting some
- 48:43Speaker 2: fun and games into the US politics. It's going to
- 48:45Speaker 2: be a wild ride. Thanks so much for joining us.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Christy and Steven will talk to you next week. Just
- 48:50Speaker 2: got time to share some of your feedback from what
- 48:52Speaker 2: I had to say last night about the Californian fires
- 48:54Speaker 2: and the salient warning they hold for Australia. And one
- 48:58Speaker 2: viewer said, don't let woke in you see get in
- 49:00Speaker 2: the way of good fire prevention. Well, Sir Zachary says
- 49:04Speaker 2: future reference, don't vote for anyone who mentions climate change
- 49:08Speaker 2: not a bad option. And another viewer says, seems you
- 49:10Speaker 2: can only cut a tree down these days for a
- 49:12Speaker 2: windmill or a solar paddle. Ain't that the truth? And
- 49:16Speaker 2: finally we've got a viewer saying it's going to get worse,
- 49:18Speaker 2: killing the Brumbies, removing cattle from all national parks. He's
- 49:22Speaker 2: a disaster. There's nothing grazing and the vegetation is growing.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Thanks for watching. I'll be back tomorrow night. Here's Peter
- 49:28Speaker 2: Kredlin
