- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Thursday.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Dominique Foxworth, what's going on?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Tuesday night, the ridiculous night in sports, man. I just
- 0:35Speaker 2: thought I was going to be chilling in New York,
- 0:36Speaker 2: hanging out, having a good time, then watch a little
- 0:40Speaker 2: bit of tennis, watch a little bit of Wimby versus
- 0:43Speaker 2: the Celtics, and then shit fell apart. I'm watching Bam
- 0:46Speaker 2: out of Bayou against the Wiz, and then the Max
- 0:50Speaker 2: Crosby thing happens, and all the emails that I sent
- 0:54Speaker 2: in show preparation for get up the next morning, worthless.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Wasted my time doing research to prepare for that.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And y'all wind up in a wild thing with Get
- 1:02Speaker 1: Up On That because I see what they got to do.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They got to get some basketball people on deck. They
- 1:06Speaker 1: got the football people on deck. And then we just
- 1:10Speaker 1: going to see.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That baseball, they try to squeeze baseball in there.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Oh, that's right.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Apparently the manager of the USA team don't understand how
- 1:19Speaker 2: to make it to the out of the pool stage
- 1:21Speaker 2: into the knockout round.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Oh man, I felt so bad for him. Somebody gave
- 1:25Speaker 1: him some bad information. And so he thought that they
- 1:28Speaker 1: was in and then they wasn't in. And then they
- 1:30Speaker 1: went and lost to Italy. They went and lost to
- 1:35Speaker 1: the fighting Tyrico in that game. And so the world
- 1:40Speaker 1: baseball classic is interesting because it's only a very small
- 1:45Speaker 1: number of countries. that should really be participating in this.
- 1:49Speaker 1: That like actually have the manpower to do this. It
- 1:52Speaker 1: is the United States. It is the Dominican. I guess
- 1:56Speaker 1: Puerto Rico gets to compete as itself. Venezuela, you guys
- 2:01Speaker 1: can participate in this. But that's really just about it. Brother, otherwise,
- 2:05Speaker 1: they just be making shit up to get these cats
- 2:07Speaker 1: on these seats.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean, Japan, right?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, Japan. Japan and South Korea, right? They could
- 2:13Speaker 1: put this together. But I saw that Jose Contreras' son,
- 2:16Speaker 1: Jose Contreras, who, by the way, is from Cuba, his
- 2:19Speaker 1: son is 17 years old and he plays in the
- 2:23Speaker 1: Atlanta metro area and he played for Brazil. I can't
- 2:27Speaker 1: think of a single Brazilian baseball player off the top
- 2:31Speaker 1: of my head.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Don't Klay Thompson, brother, play for the British team?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Wow, that's interesting.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The basketball, Clay Thompson.
- 2:40Speaker 1: That's right. Bahamas. They're really doing some colonial games in
- 2:47Speaker 1: order to make this happen.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I mean, the U.S. team doesn't seem to care all
- 2:51Speaker 2: that much. But I can't imagine that any of these
- 2:55Speaker 2: other countries really care. I think we got some cool
- 2:58Speaker 2: moments when it's like we got Otani pitching to Trout
- 3:04Speaker 2: Like last, like we had some cool moments, but overall,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and so it's surprising that the ratings actually are like
- 3:10Speaker 2: better than you would expect. I guess we just like
- 3:13Speaker 2: anything patriotic right now. Maybe. I don't know.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I think it's a cool event in large part because
- 3:19Speaker 1: for Americans, you get to watch people have fun playing baseball,
- 3:23Speaker 1: which you have never seen before. Like those Dominican cats,
- 3:29Speaker 1: them cats from around there, once you see them play,
- 3:31Speaker 1: it's just a whole different situation. It is a totally
- 3:35Speaker 1: contrived event. I bristle at the idea of playing for
- 3:39Speaker 1: your country. You are playing on the American team in
- 3:43Speaker 1: this shit they made up. You know what I mean?
- 3:47Speaker 1: This is not... If you're really doing it for your country,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you'll be like this. You understand what I'm saying? You're
- 3:55Speaker 1: going to have a hat that's flat on the top
- 3:57Speaker 1: if you're really doing this for your country. This is
- 4:00Speaker 1: just an event that they put together.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So you say it's totally contrived. I agree with that.
- 4:05Speaker 2: But how many years does something have to go on
- 4:08Speaker 2: before it's not totally contrived? Because isn't everything totally contrived
- 4:12Speaker 2: in the beginning? Aren't all leagues totally contrived?
- 4:14Speaker 3: No.
- 4:15Speaker 1: What I'm saying is the contrived part. is the idea
- 4:19Speaker 1: that this is about something bigger.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Like, it's the America team.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And they playing, right? Playing for your country. Mike Piazza,
- 4:32Speaker 1: when he did this, he was playing for Italy because
- 4:35Speaker 1: they needed some people on the Italy team. I have
- 4:38Speaker 1: no idea how many of them cats on the Israel
- 4:41Speaker 1: team are actually Israelis or... you know, from somewhere in
- 4:45Speaker 1: America and putting on for Israel.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I mean, there are good games. So I'll enjoy watching
- 4:58Speaker 2: my kids compete. It's because I know who the good
- 5:01Speaker 2: guys are and I know who the bad guys are. And, like,
- 5:03Speaker 2: I have some stake in it, you know? Like, my
- 5:06Speaker 2: team is the good guys. And the same thing when
- 5:07Speaker 2: you watch a team that you care about. It is hard,
- 5:10Speaker 2: which is why a lot of people gamble. It's hard
- 5:12Speaker 2: to get into games with two teams that you're not
- 5:15Speaker 2: moved by or players that you don't know or care about.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That's the secret shortcut to this is you turn it
- 5:22Speaker 2: on and you know who the good guys are. You
- 5:25Speaker 2: know who you're rooting for and you know who you're
- 5:27Speaker 2: rooting against because it makes it pretty clear. So that's
- 5:30Speaker 2: a little bit of the cheat code because I'd be
- 5:32Speaker 2: much more willing to watch that than it's just like,
- 5:35Speaker 2: a random regular season baseball game that i don't care.
- 5:38Speaker 1: About oh usa all right let's go team no no
- 5:41Speaker 1: you're right all that's fair there are some stakes they're
- 5:42Speaker 1: there but no it's a fun event i i can
- 5:44Speaker 1: see why people watch it right like i i get
- 5:48Speaker 1: that let me tell you what i don't get and
- 5:49Speaker 1: i really don't get this you tell me if i'm
- 5:52Speaker 1: tripping here last show we did with danny parkins we
- 5:56Speaker 1: talked about how daniel jones is out here asking 50
- 5:59Speaker 1: million dollars a year when the Colts were like, you
- 6:01Speaker 1: will take this 37 and you will like it. But
- 6:03Speaker 1: it actually turns out they were not saying you will
- 6:05Speaker 1: take this 37 and you like it. They came around
- 6:08Speaker 1: right after we had recorded that, and they are giving
- 6:10Speaker 1: Daniel Jones a two-year deal, $ 88 million base, $ 50 million
- 6:14Speaker 1: guaranteed at signing, $ 60 million guaranteed for injury, maximum value
- 6:19Speaker 1: for $ 100 million. And you watch these things more closely
- 6:24Speaker 1: than I do. Daniel Jones looked like, to me, something
- 6:28Speaker 1: we've seen many, many times. which is somebody gets in
- 6:30Speaker 1: a new situation and gets off to a hot start,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and then everybody was like, wait a minute, man, it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. And then he went back to playing like
- 6:38Speaker 1: Daniel Jones before he suffered an Achilles injury. So this
- 6:43Speaker 1: is a world where somebody's falling over themselves to give
- 6:45Speaker 1: him $ 50 million, and the Arizona Cardinals are willing to
- 6:49Speaker 1: eat $ 30- something million to tell Kyler Murray, who I'm pretty
- 6:53Speaker 1: sure is a better player, to go away.
- 6:55Speaker 2: $ 60 million to tell Tua to beat it. Right. Who's
- 7:02Speaker 2: had a better season. Maybe you wouldn't argue he's a
- 7:04Speaker 2: better player, but at least has had a better season.
- 7:07Speaker 1: When did Daniel Jones turn into a guy you pay
- 7:09Speaker 1: $ 50 million to?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Far be it from me to knock anybody for
- 7:15Speaker 2: getting their money. However, this seems like a situation where
- 7:18Speaker 2: the circumstances have worked in his benefit. It's Kirk Cousins-esque.
- 7:24Speaker 2: And that the circumstances work to your benefit in such
- 7:27Speaker 2: a way. But it's not even fair to Kirk Cousins
- 7:29Speaker 2: because Kirk Cousins has put together a longer stretch and
- 7:33Speaker 2: more impressive career than I think Daniel Jones has at
- 7:37Speaker 2: this point.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:37Speaker 2: And before you even get to the Achilles part, the
- 7:40Speaker 2: Achilles part matters because that is one of the few
- 7:43Speaker 2: remaining injuries that make us nervous long term, right? So, like,
- 7:48Speaker 2: ACL doesn't really make us nervous that much long term.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And at one point, that was it. There's a few
- 7:53Speaker 2: injuries that's like, all right, let me be a little hesitant. Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 2: you know, like we haven't really seen it in football.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I know Jason Tatum's back in basketball, but like Aaron Rodgers,
- 8:03Speaker 2: that wasn't great, guys. Like Kirk Cousins came back. That
- 8:07Speaker 2: wasn't great, guys. But I don't even think that it's
- 8:11Speaker 2: the fact that it's Achilles that jumps out. It's the
- 8:13Speaker 2: fact that it's Daniel Jones and that he also broke
- 8:17Speaker 2: his leg last year. And I don't remember the last
- 8:21Speaker 2: time Daniel Jones had a full, I guess he got
- 8:24Speaker 2: a contract extension. That was the last time he had
- 8:26Speaker 2: a full healthy season, right? And so you combine the
- 8:30Speaker 2: fact that he's never had a great season. He's had
- 8:35Speaker 2: maybe one fully healthy season. That is not the type
- 8:39Speaker 2: of player that you want to, that you necessarily think
- 8:42Speaker 2: that you have to extend. But I guess that's why
- 8:46Speaker 2: they put him on a two-year deal. It's a result of,
- 8:49Speaker 2: I think, Ballard, the GM there, feeling like his back's
- 8:52Speaker 2: against the wall. And Daniel Jones, if he takes his
- 8:57Speaker 2: transition tag and is like, I'm not signing it until
- 9:00Speaker 2: week one, I'm not going to do anything, that puts
- 9:03Speaker 2: you under the eight ball. And for what reason? Why
- 9:05Speaker 2: not trade away whatever you got and give whatever contracts
- 9:10Speaker 2: you need to give to give yourself the best chance
- 9:13Speaker 2: to demonstrate to the newer decision makers at that organization?
- 9:18Speaker 2: that you are the right guy to stay here for
- 9:21Speaker 2: a few more years.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Man, they love giving Daniel Jones, just finding a reason
- 9:27Speaker 1: to get that boy some money. Same thing with Sam Darnold.
- 9:29Speaker 1: People are just like, hey, man, if you just give
- 9:30Speaker 1: us the opportunity, man, we'd love to give you a
- 9:32Speaker 1: bunch of money, right? I mean, it all worked out,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I guess, in the way for him. But with Daniel Jones,
- 9:37Speaker 1: we talked about this. I'm like, it's Daniel Jones coming
- 9:38Speaker 1: off an Achilles. Daniel Jones, who needs to run. Like,
- 9:41Speaker 1: it's been established that he needs to have them DeAndre
- 9:45Speaker 1: plays put in there for him in order... for you
- 9:48Speaker 1: to get it, right? Like if you just treat him
- 9:50Speaker 1: how he look, it ain't gonna work out so well,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but you throw some apostrophe plays in there for him.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And then some address. gets
- 10:00Speaker 1: opened up and you could do a little bit more.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson asked for a trade and if I'm the Colts, No, buddy,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you staying right here. We ain't fully gave up on
- 10:11Speaker 1: you yet. They may need him next year. And if
- 10:14Speaker 1: Daniel Jones can reach the point to be a $ 50
- 10:15Speaker 1: million quarterback, don't tell me it's over for Anthony Richardson.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and obviously I haven't done.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I refuse to give up, by the way.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was going to breeze by
- 10:24Speaker 2: that because he hasn't given you much to be excited.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Neither had Daniel Jones for his first two years as
- 10:32Speaker 1: the NFL starter.
- 10:33Speaker 2: That's fair. It could come around. It might. But what
- 10:36Speaker 2: surprised me is that they weren't in on the Kyler
- 10:39Speaker 2: Murray situation, especially given Shane Steichen's history. I'm surprised. I
- 10:45Speaker 2: would be surprised. And I haven't talked to Shane Steichen,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but I'd be surprised if Shane Steichen was like looking
- 10:51Speaker 2: at the available quarterbacks and then go upstairs to Chris
- 10:54Speaker 2: Ballard's office and said, let me holler at this guy.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Because we remember Shane Steichen got this job because of
- 11:01Speaker 2: what he was able to do in Philadelphia. with Jalen Hurts.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I'd be shocked if he looked at Kyler Murray combined
- 11:09Speaker 2: with Jonathan Taylor, Warren, that tight end that they have
- 11:13Speaker 2: is awesome, a very good offensive line. They extend Pierce.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I'd be shocked if he wasn't like, hey, go give
- 11:20Speaker 2: Kyler Murray that $ 1 million. But Kyler might have just
- 11:24Speaker 2: been like, nah, these Vikings got what I need.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Or Shane Steichen called his old coworker.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Fair.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And was like, what's it like working with Kyler Murray?
- 11:37Speaker 1: And he was like, how much time you got?
- 11:40Speaker 2: But I agree. That's a possibility.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm just saying that's a hypothesis. I'm not saying that's
- 11:45Speaker 1: a good enough reason.
- 11:46Speaker 2: No, it certainly is a hypothesis. But I'm putting myself
- 11:51Speaker 2: in his shoes. And I've heard a lot of the
- 11:53Speaker 2: same things that Jonathan Gannon might tell Shane Steichen. And
- 11:58Speaker 2: my job on the line. I'm looking at Daniel Jones
- 12:01Speaker 2: in a boot. And I'm possibly considering Kyler Murray moodless.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Kyler Murray... Humbled, possibly.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Maybe we got a new Kyler Murray that want to
- 12:17Speaker 5: show something.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I'm going to bring Kyler Murray in for that $ 1
- 12:20Speaker 2: million and say, look here, Kyler, I don't know about
- 12:23Speaker 2: none of that. I don't care. We're going to ball
- 12:27Speaker 2: out this year because you know what happens after this year?
- 12:29Speaker 2: If you ball out, massive extension. If I ball out,
- 12:33Speaker 2: massive extension. You and me, Kyler, I don't give a
- 12:37Speaker 2: damn about this. This is the speech I'm giving them.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't give.
- 12:39Speaker 5: A damn about none of that. You and me, we're
- 12:41Speaker 5: going to get a two bedroom apartment. We're going to
- 12:45Speaker 5: get up at five in the morning together. We're going
- 12:49Speaker 5: to carpool our.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Narrow asses to the facility together.
- 12:53Speaker 4: We're going to live, watch film and work together. It's
- 12:57Speaker 4: going to be one year of hell. For you and me,
- 13:01Speaker 4: I'm going to hate it too. When Call of Duty
- 13:03Speaker 4: come out, I'm with you. I'm going to give you,
- 13:07Speaker 4: I'm going to evac you. If you down, I'm going
- 13:09Speaker 4: to revive you in Call of Duty.
- 13:11Speaker 2: We together. I'm not going to like it. You're not
- 13:13Speaker 2: going to like it. But you know what? Come January,
- 13:17Speaker 2: February time, You and me, we going to get paid.
- 13:21Speaker 2: You can go somewhere else. I can go somewhere else.
- 13:24Speaker 2: It don't matter. But we need each other right now.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I would try to sell that to Kyler Murray if
- 13:29Speaker 2: I could.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Y'all about to be the meme. He about to be
- 13:33Speaker 1: the meme of Brother Man Coach. Now bring me my money.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Exactly. Going to do the Roy Williams strut right into
- 13:43Speaker 2: the ownership office.
- 13:45Speaker 1: We gots to get this bread, dawg.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Hey, man, you can tell them.
- 13:50Speaker 1: You've written about it. You've had to, let's get this
- 13:52Speaker 1: money seasoned.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I've told you and I've written about
- 13:57Speaker 2: how it was probably the closest I've ever felt to
- 14:01Speaker 2: depression because it was not fun. I got traded right
- 14:05Speaker 2: before my contract year. And I was like, holy, it
- 14:09Speaker 2: was a realization. And it's different for Kyler Murray. He
- 14:11Speaker 2: was the number one overall pick. His money was different
- 14:13Speaker 2: than mine was. But at that time, it was like,
- 14:16Speaker 2: holy shit. All that I've dedicated my life to, right now,
- 14:22Speaker 2: it comes down to this season. Either I play poorly
- 14:26Speaker 2: and I got a couple hundred thousand dollars in the bank,
- 14:29Speaker 2: which ain't bad. A couple hundred thousand dollars in the
- 14:31Speaker 2: bank in my mid-20s, no professional experience. Damn it.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Or.
- 14:38Speaker 2: got some M's and life looking pretty bright. That's a
- 14:43Speaker 2: lot of pressure. Then you get traded and you live
- 14:45Speaker 2: it out of a hotel room and it was miserable.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I wasn't watching shit but film and only Sonny in
- 14:51Speaker 2: Philadelphia trying to force myself to get a laugh. That
- 14:54Speaker 2: was it. Off my broke ass laptop.
- 14:57Speaker 1: You helped teach something that's very important. I always say
- 15:00Speaker 1: focus is a skill, right? Focus is a resource and
- 15:05Speaker 1: We always talk about the contract here. They'd be like, yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 1: he's doing that because of money on the line. Yes
- 15:08Speaker 1: and no, right? Obviously, we as humans cannot always tap
- 15:15Speaker 1: into the utmost focus for whatever reason, right? Sometimes it's
- 15:18Speaker 1: different than others. Like sometimes in the gym, you lift
- 15:20Speaker 1: a little more. Sometimes you throw it up 30. Sometimes
- 15:23Speaker 1: you throw it up 20, right? It just goes that
- 15:26Speaker 1: way sometimes. But that got to make that focus.
- 15:33Speaker 2: That got to is a cousin of can't go back.
- 15:37Speaker 2: There's nothing stronger than can't go back. I'm not saying
- 15:39Speaker 2: that I had the can't go back coursing through my veins,
- 15:43Speaker 2: but I had the got to coursing through there. And
- 15:45Speaker 2: that's pretty damn strong. And yeah, I read a book
- 15:48Speaker 2: a while ago called Scarcity, and it talked a lot
- 15:51Speaker 2: about like the benefits and the drawbacks of like feeling
- 15:55Speaker 2: that pressure and that scarcity. But yeah. We're people, man.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You can't simulate. It's something we talk about all the time.
- 16:02Speaker 2: You can't simulate real desperation. You can't fake that. We
- 16:07Speaker 2: read articles. Maybe they're true. Maybe they're not. Like moms
- 16:10Speaker 2: getting superpowers when their kids in danger and lifting up
- 16:13Speaker 2: cars and shit like that. I don't know, but I
- 16:15Speaker 2: know that shit feel different sometimes. And I believe it.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Let me tell you what I believe in that mom
- 16:21Speaker 1: superpower type stuff. It was the NFC Championship game. I've
- 16:25Speaker 1: talked about this on the show before. If you've never
- 16:27Speaker 1: seen it, look it up. My head, I maybe made
- 16:31Speaker 1: it a little bit more hyperbole in watching it, but
- 16:34Speaker 1: when you watch it, you'll still see what I'm talking about.
- 16:36Speaker 1: So in the year of our Lord, 2009, Adrian Peterson
- 16:39Speaker 1: had a real problem with fumbling, right? They just kept
- 16:43Speaker 1: taking the ball out of his hands, which seems impossible
- 16:46Speaker 1: for a man whose greatest known feat is his handshake, right?
- 16:50Speaker 1: But for whatever reason, people kept making him fumble. And
- 16:54Speaker 1: in that NFC championship game, I want to say he
- 16:57Speaker 1: had multiple phones, but the last fumble he had, he
- 17:01Speaker 1: recovered it himself. And it looked like the equivalent of
- 17:06Speaker 1: what if somebody jumped from the bottom of the pool
- 17:10Speaker 1: and landed on their feet? with just one jump, not
- 17:13Speaker 1: even pulling themselves off the wall. Agent Peterson understood now
- 17:17Speaker 1: was not the time to lose a fumble. It is
- 17:19Speaker 1: one of the most incredible things I have ever seen
- 17:22Speaker 1: in my life. And it would not have been the
- 17:23Speaker 1: case in week two. It would not have been the
- 17:25Speaker 1: case in week seven. It happened right then and there.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I've told this a bunch of times, but you know this,
- 17:32Speaker 2: that was one of the differences that I thought that
- 17:35Speaker 2: I saw in and Ray Lewis in any other play.
- 17:38Speaker 2: You can point to all the special things about him,
- 17:40Speaker 2: but one of the differences that I saw in him
- 17:42Speaker 2: was somehow the level, like my most important can't go back,
- 17:52Speaker 2: everything's on the line, high pressure, that level of focus
- 17:56Speaker 2: and intensity was that fool's baseline.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Pfft.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Like, I don't know if he got higher than that
- 18:04Speaker 2: for other, like, high-intensity games. I couldn't really tell because
- 18:08Speaker 2: it felt intense. Like, when we were in the playoffs together,
- 18:10Speaker 2: it feels intense. I wasn't on the Super Bowl team,
- 18:13Speaker 2: either of his Super Bowl teams, so maybe it was
- 18:15Speaker 2: higher then, too. But I know that I looked at
- 18:18Speaker 2: him before every random game and was like, at this
- 18:22Speaker 2: point in your career, how you care this much right now?
- 18:26Speaker 2: You can't fake it, man. You can't fake it. It's
- 18:28Speaker 2: something about... And that might be... Some other players might
- 18:30Speaker 2: be like that. And maybe he takes it to an
- 18:32Speaker 2: even higher level when he knocking out Eddie George in
- 18:35Speaker 2: the playoffs. Like, it's possible. But it's a special amount
- 18:39Speaker 2: of focus.
- 18:40Speaker 1: That's Michael Jordan.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Same thing. And to your point, that focus is a resource.
- 18:45Speaker 2: You're right. Like, some people, it's the same way to, like,
- 18:47Speaker 2: speed is a resource. Of course, you're going to run faster,
- 18:50Speaker 2: sometimes slower sometimes. And some people start at a higher point. Like,
- 18:54Speaker 2: some people... has some issues with attention, that man can focus.
- 18:58Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. We clearly recognize that there's only
- 19:01Speaker 1: a certain endowment in this because people spend all kinds
- 19:03Speaker 1: of money on dope.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So they can get it back. You know what I'm saying?
- 19:08Speaker 1: There's a whole industry based around I can help you focus.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I get it. Yeah, I was listening to some podcast
- 19:16Speaker 2: this morning about politics and was talking about how power
- 19:19Speaker 2: is a combination of resources and will. is like the
- 19:25Speaker 2: the calculation that makes power and i was thinking about
- 19:28Speaker 2: that in a sports context or an athlete's context and
- 19:31Speaker 2: the will is kind of the focus part to some
- 19:33Speaker 2: degree is like and that's the can't go back so
- 19:36Speaker 2: like yeah there's there are some things that are different
- 19:39Speaker 2: that you can't create and like yeah the resources are
- 19:41Speaker 2: whatever you have physically yeah but that doesn't like we
- 19:45Speaker 2: all know great athletes that didn't figure it out didn't
- 19:47Speaker 2: make it anywhere that will something strong, man. Yeah, man.
- 19:53Speaker 1: By the way, since you mentioned the Ravens, man, what
- 19:55Speaker 1: the hell they up there doing, dog? I sent a
- 19:57Speaker 1: text to Mina and I asked the question. We used
- 19:59Speaker 1: to have a word for what the Ravens did, but
- 20:02Speaker 1: we never replaced it with something more politically correct. So, like,
- 20:05Speaker 1: what kind of giving did they engage in? And if
- 20:07Speaker 1: one word– if– One word to refer to it is
- 20:10Speaker 1: Caucasian given. Would that be offensive?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yeah. At this time, I wouldn't mess around with it.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Nah, I wouldn't do that either. I don't recommend anybody...
- 20:23Speaker 1: I don't think nobody should make that point. But, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 1: European strings attached, maybe? I don't know.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I like that. Yeah, I like that.
- 20:32Speaker 1: You know what it's like the Ravens did?
- 20:34Speaker 2: The Ravens is like.
- 20:35Speaker 1: When you accidentally send a text and it's hanging in
- 20:37Speaker 1: the air and you really don't want it to go through,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but you got to turn the whole computer off. All right?
- 20:42Speaker 1: You got to turn the whole phone off.
- 20:43Speaker 2: That's what they did.
- 20:44Speaker 1: They turned the whole phone off. And then when it
- 20:49Speaker 1: came down to it, somebody was like, oh, they ain't
- 20:51Speaker 1: tell you? Mm-hmm.
- 20:54Speaker 2: You ain't heard? Huh. Oh, they ain't tell you. It's hilarious.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You know, that's when everybody else is bullshit. When everybody
- 21:04Speaker 1: ain't tell you. It ain't that motherfucker looking like a triangle.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Looking like recycle, reduce, reuse. Everybody just pointing around at
- 21:15Speaker 1: each other.
- 21:17Speaker 2: It's bad, man. As the time has gone on, it
- 21:20Speaker 2: feels like the NFL world is all looking at the
- 21:25Speaker 2: Ravens funny. Right? Yeah. And I still stand by the
- 21:32Speaker 2: fact that I think that the outcome that they would
- 21:35Speaker 2: have preferred is a fully healthy Max Crosby. I think
- 21:39Speaker 2: he's that good. I think they would have preferred to
- 21:42Speaker 2: have gotten him for the picks that they sent away
- 21:45Speaker 2: at whatever level they expected. but I also think it's really,
- 21:49Speaker 2: it's very reasonable to think that the circumstances changed. So
- 21:56Speaker 2: we say pass fail for the physical. And this is
- 21:58Speaker 2: how I explained it on my show is like, we
- 22:00Speaker 2: say pass fail. Like there is like, there's some absolute
- 22:04Speaker 2: to it. Like it's a light switch. Like it's something
- 22:07Speaker 2: that all people would say. I understand like, no, the
- 22:10Speaker 2: pass fail line for a physical moves based on your circumstances.
- 22:15Speaker 2: So like, if I am getting you for league minimum,
- 22:20Speaker 2: what I would require for you to consider you pass
- 22:24Speaker 2: is lower, right? If I'm looking to draft you number
- 22:28Speaker 2: one overall, then what I would require would be higher.
- 22:34Speaker 2: If I am giving two first-round picks to get you,
- 22:37Speaker 2: it's going to be higher. If a suitable replacement, we discover,
- 22:44Speaker 2: is a little less expensive than we... than we thought
- 22:48Speaker 2: what I would require for your knee to look like
- 22:51Speaker 2: goes up a little higher. And that like, it's one
- 22:54Speaker 2: of those conspiracy theories that is, is so like logical
- 22:59Speaker 2: that it feels less conspiratorial. It was like, Oh, Trey
- 23:03Speaker 2: took a minute for Trey yesterday.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It's, it's, it's the fact that they did not try
- 23:09Speaker 1: to change the terms of the deal.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 1: That's what we, they, yeah. Like if they had been like,
- 23:15Speaker 1: all right, I take this down to a one and
- 23:16Speaker 1: a three, Right. But they didn't do that. They was like,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know what? No, no, no, no, no.
- 23:24Speaker 3: We good.
- 23:24Speaker 1: We good. No, no, no, no. It's OK. I just
- 23:27Speaker 1: here's my receipt. Can you put it back on my card? No, no, no.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I don't want no store credit. I want no store credit.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I want I want that back on my card.
- 23:37Speaker 2: They asked you, what was the problem with it? You're like,
- 23:43Speaker 2: I don't know the knee. You know what it is?
- 23:46Speaker 1: That's actually now we got even better. They tried to
- 23:49Speaker 1: take back an open box. You know with the open
- 23:54Speaker 1: box anything is possible. They took the open box. They
- 23:59Speaker 1: were like, yo, I need a refund on this open box.
- 24:01Speaker 1: They're like, yo, but it's an open box. You can't
- 24:03Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, that's fine, but we need a refund.
- 24:05Speaker 1: We looked inside and it's broke. But you knew it
- 24:10Speaker 1: was an open box.
- 24:12Speaker 2: But this is, as we search around for the perfect analogy,
- 24:18Speaker 2: where the Raiders get into a tough situation is they
- 24:25Speaker 2: gave them max on consignment. They didn't get paid. Because
- 24:30Speaker 2: then that's the thing, the store, once they got your money,
- 24:33Speaker 2: you come back and they're like, it's open box. Oh,
- 24:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to give you the money. You go
- 24:37Speaker 2: ahead and rip it out the register. The Ravens never paid.
- 24:41Speaker 2: They called the credit card company and said, cancel that.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Cancel that before they can process it. Cancel it.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The Ravens just over there like, we're going to get
- 24:53Speaker 1: him out of here, but he don't want to be
- 24:54Speaker 1: here no more. At least they don't have to put
- 24:57Speaker 1: him back in uniform. At least they didn't do this
- 24:59Speaker 1: at the trade deadline.
- 25:00Speaker 2: The worst part, I think, for the Raiders is that
- 25:04Speaker 2: they are in a much worse position than they were before. Like,
- 25:09Speaker 2: had they never even gotten into this agreement with the Ravens,
- 25:13Speaker 2: Max Crosby's value would be higher and they could get
- 25:17Speaker 2: one of those. So Max Crosby's value is depressed now.
- 25:19Speaker 2: So they got the deal got reneged and they got
- 25:23Speaker 2: back a less valuable piece. And the Ravens went on
- 25:27Speaker 2: to get back their picks that are still just as
- 25:29Speaker 2: valuable as they were before and a replacement for the
- 25:35Speaker 2: position that they that they needed.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this. What do you think
- 25:39Speaker 1: of all these people that are now... We hear people
- 25:43Speaker 1: talk about the Ravens like it's a clown show, and
- 25:46Speaker 1: I had spent the last two and a half decades
- 25:48Speaker 1: people talking about it's the best running organization in the league.
- 25:52Speaker 2: That was what bought them some goodwill with me, at least,
- 25:55Speaker 2: was like, that sounds absurd. The Ravens don't do that.
- 25:59Speaker 2: The Ravens don't. That ain't how the Ravens operate. Ozzy? Nah,
- 26:04Speaker 2: that ain't what they would do. But it feels like
- 26:07Speaker 2: it doesn't take much. Um, I tell, uh, yeah, I
- 26:11Speaker 2: definitely can't tell this story on here, but one of
- 26:13Speaker 2: my college coaches told a story once that, um, stuck
- 26:17Speaker 2: with me. It was called Pierre. He called it Pierre,
- 26:19Speaker 2: the bridge builder.
- 26:20Speaker 1: And, um, I know similar analogs about that one. I
- 26:26Speaker 1: think I've told you before, but yeah. Does it involve
- 26:30Speaker 1: a goat at some point?
- 26:32Speaker 2: It doesn't, but yeah, the same sort of thing.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Yeah, the version I heard involves a goat.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, this was in the early 2000s, and we were
- 26:40Speaker 2: hyper-masculine football players. So he went with something that... that
- 26:46Speaker 2: those type of people would find incredibly offensive at that time.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I don't think it would work. The GOAT might be
- 26:52Speaker 2: more offensive now, but back then, he wanted you to
- 26:55Speaker 2: know that the thing that you would most hate to
- 26:59Speaker 2: be considered... In 2001, you it, because you did it once.
- 27:03Speaker 1: You get caught one time.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the.
- 27:05Speaker 1: That's what you will be forever.
- 27:06Speaker 2: That's the essence of the story. Pierre the Bridge Builder
- 27:09Speaker 2: was the greatest bridge builder. He built lots of bridges,
- 27:11Speaker 2: and everyone revered him as being a great bridge builder.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Then somebody caught him doing something once, one time. And
- 27:16Speaker 2: from then on, nobody called him Pierre the Bridge Builder.
- 27:19Speaker 2: It reminded me of my homeboy at elementary school named P.P. Gregg.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Man peed on himself just a couple times at elementary school.
- 27:26Speaker 2: He did a bunch of other things. Still call that
- 27:29Speaker 2: man P.P. to this day.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Yeah, there was some dude that was allegedly in high school,
- 27:36Speaker 1: caught in the bathroom playing a solo.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I don't even know if it actually happened, but he
- 27:42Speaker 1: was J-O-B until the end. It had wore off by
- 27:45Speaker 1: the time Reunion came around. They called that man J-O-B.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I don't even know what J-O-B stood for. His name
- 27:52Speaker 1: was J-O-B forever.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I mean, that's the best possible outcome because... At some point,
- 27:59Speaker 2: it becomes a nickname and nobody knows what it comes from.
- 28:03Speaker 2: And just hope that they don't ask the origins. Because, like, P.P.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Gregg eventually just became P. Like, he went to P.P.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Gregg.
- 28:10Speaker 2: We called him P.P.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Gregg.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Then it was just P.P. Then eventually it was just P.
- 28:13Speaker 2: No P's in his name anywhere to be found. Sooner
- 28:16Speaker 2: or later, where P at? Where P? Like Swaggy P. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 2: the man P.P. 'd on himself a few times in
- 28:23Speaker 2: the third grade. P.P. Gregg forever.
- 28:26Speaker 1: All right, coming up next, we got more with Dominique Fosworth,
- 28:30Speaker 1: including the most amazing full circle story in the NFL that.

- 31:57Speaker 1: Did you ever think that you would see a time
- 32:00Speaker 1: where Geno Smith and the New York Jets would be reunited?
- 32:09Speaker 2: I mean, it had to be a last resort, man. Like,
- 32:11Speaker 2: if I was Geno, I would do all things possible
- 32:14Speaker 2: to avoid giving people the opportunity to revisit that story, man.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Or any of it.
- 32:20Speaker 1: And, okay, it's very difficult for me to judge Geno
- 32:25Speaker 1: on what happened last year with the Raiders because it
- 32:28Speaker 1: was such a disaster what was going on with that team, right? However,
- 32:32Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn didn't appear to do a much better job
- 32:36Speaker 1: last year than Pink Carroll did. OK, he also has
- 32:41Speaker 1: done a terrible job of dealing with the media. Like,
- 32:43Speaker 1: I don't think Aaron Glenn is being extended with so
- 32:45Speaker 1: much courtesy this year. And your black head coach bringing
- 32:51Speaker 1: in the black quarterback that the fans hated. Whether they
- 32:55Speaker 1: were being fair or not is not the point. This
- 32:59Speaker 1: seems like a situation that is not it doesn't seem
- 33:02Speaker 1: conducive to success for anybody involved. But I'm also not
- 33:05Speaker 1: sure that there was going to be a better quarterback
- 33:07Speaker 1: that the Jets could get.
- 33:09Speaker 2: That's the thing. I'm not sure how I would classify
- 33:13Speaker 2: Jets fans on the spectrum of informed fans or not,
- 33:17Speaker 2: or educated fans. And not like traditional education, just like
- 33:23Speaker 2: how much they know about the football world. Because I
- 33:27Speaker 2: think if they are, they are welcoming Geno Smith. I
- 33:33Speaker 2: think it seems obviously that you do not have a
- 33:36Speaker 2: franchise that or a situation right now that is advantageous
- 33:42Speaker 2: to a starting-level quarterback. And Geno Smith seems to be that.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So maybe they'll be upset or not welcome him or
- 33:52Speaker 2: have a short kind of fuse with him because of
- 33:56Speaker 2: their history with him.
- 33:58Speaker 4: But.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I don't know who they think they were going to
- 34:01Speaker 2: get that's better than that, given the situation right now.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's just if he had not played for
- 34:07Speaker 1: them before, I don't think I would view this in
- 34:10Speaker 1: the same manner. Now, have you seen the run-through of
- 34:12Speaker 1: all the quarterbacks since Geno's first start with the Jets,
- 34:15Speaker 1: all the quarterbacks that they started before they bring this
- 34:17Speaker 1: back around?
- 34:18Speaker 2: I haven't, man.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to run through the names, and I'm
- 34:21Speaker 1: not going to really stop. I'm just going to run
- 34:23Speaker 1: through them, and I'm going to be curious if you
- 34:25Speaker 1: have the same observation at the end that I did.
- 34:28Speaker 1: And keeping in mind, we're talking about the versions of
- 34:31Speaker 1: these players as they were with the Jets, okay? Matt Sims,
- 34:36Speaker 1: Michael Vick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty, Josh McCown, Sam Darnold,
- 34:42Speaker 1: Trevor Simeon, Luke Falk, Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, Mike White,
- 34:48Speaker 1: Josh Johnson, Chris Streveler, I've never heard of him, Aaron Rodgers,
- 34:54Speaker 1: Tim Boyle, Terod Taylor, Justin Fields, and Brady Cook. You
- 35:00Speaker 1: know what I feel like they all have in common?
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'm not sure any of them, while with the Jets,
- 35:05Speaker 1: except for 2015, how many of them were actually better? Like,
- 35:09Speaker 1: if at the same time they were there, the Jets
- 35:11Speaker 1: had had Geno Smith, they probably would have been better off. Like,
- 35:14Speaker 1: you look at the run of quarterbacks they had post-Geno,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and it's like, you know, the same way they keep
- 35:18Speaker 1: talking about Sam Darnold, if.
- 35:19Speaker 2: They had just waited and given him a little bit
- 35:21Speaker 2: more time.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Apparently, they should have had Geno Smith as the quarterback
- 35:25Speaker 1: for 13 years.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I mean, that's my point, is I think they know that.
- 35:29Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. It's like, I don't know how
- 35:31Speaker 2: smart they are as football fans, but if there's someone
- 35:37Speaker 2: in this marriage or this connection, because it's multiple parties,
- 35:41Speaker 2: that should feel appreciative, it's the Jets fans, the Jets organization.
- 35:49Speaker 2: He's the one that comes in, I think. And even
- 35:52Speaker 2: coming off as bad a season he's had last year,
- 35:54Speaker 2: I think most people... attribute that to what was happening
- 35:58Speaker 2: around him. He's the one who I think might have
- 36:02Speaker 2: had more options. I actually think that the Falcons, given
- 36:06Speaker 2: that they went with Tua, probably should have been, I
- 36:10Speaker 2: guess the left-handed thing mattered more than I thought it should.
- 36:13Speaker 2: They probably should have been thinking about Geno.
- 36:16Speaker 1: They also got Tua for minimum wage.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Fair.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Geno ain't showing up for no minimum wage. Honestly, I
- 36:24Speaker 1: think the Raiders should have kept him.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Like, there's no reason for Geno not to be your
- 36:28Speaker 1: starter next year. Like, I don't, there is no, you're
- 36:32Speaker 1: not trotting John Elway out there. You're not trotting Andrew
- 36:34Speaker 1: Luck out there, right? Like, you're not trotting out a
- 36:37Speaker 1: quarterback that I feel like is like, oh, we got
- 36:40Speaker 1: to hurry out and get him on the field for
- 36:41Speaker 1: the fans. I feel like they're drafting a quarterback that
- 36:43Speaker 1: you could definitely be like, hey, post up for a
- 36:45Speaker 1: little bit, big dog. We'll get back to you.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Geno's definitely, well, I guess you have to,
- 36:52Speaker 2: he might also just be so pissed off and annoyed that,
- 36:58Speaker 2: that he's just scoring and maybe they're not looking to
- 37:00Speaker 2: deal with that. But the idea that he was happy
- 37:04Speaker 2: and comfortable with going to the Jets suggests that he
- 37:08Speaker 2: was not like thinking, oh man, this is my chance
- 37:12Speaker 2: to make it big. I can't stay around here and
- 37:14Speaker 2: help transition as a quarterback, right?
- 37:17Speaker 1: Yeah, no, this is... I talked about this a little
- 37:20Speaker 1: bit with Parkins, but it's very interesting. This is a
- 37:22Speaker 1: year where there feels like there's been more mobility than
- 37:25Speaker 1: ever for just kind of regular dudes. I feel like
- 37:28Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, even Geno Smith, I watch Alex Smith get
- 37:32Speaker 1: traded repeatedly. And the point I'm making is, and I
- 37:35Speaker 1: guess Geno Smith was traded, though it was for like
- 37:37Speaker 1: a six-round pick or something like that. But I feel
- 37:40Speaker 1: like these are quarterbacks that are a little bit too
- 37:41Speaker 1: good for somebody to just be able to get like this.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Is that because just the quality of quarterback has gone up?
- 37:49Speaker 2: Or do you think that this is like an aberration?
- 37:56Speaker 2: These type of guys in the rankings of quarterback always
- 38:00Speaker 2: were available to move around, but this batch of quarterbacks
- 38:04Speaker 2: was also never this talented?
- 38:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good question because it was a couple
- 38:10Speaker 1: of years ago. It felt like everything was wrong in
- 38:13Speaker 1: quarterback world.
- 38:14Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 38:14Speaker 1: Like I can never keep up on whether or not
- 38:16Speaker 1: we had a golden era of quarterbacks or hard times.
- 38:20Speaker 2: I mean, it's only so it's so few places, only
- 38:23Speaker 2: 32 teams. If you get a batch of five to
- 38:26Speaker 2: six young guys that come in and you maintain like
- 38:29Speaker 2: four or five old guys, then the league is flush.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well, look, Trevor Lawrence finally got his shit together, right?
- 38:36Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Baker Mayfield ain't above no more.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, that happened. You know what I'm saying? It
- 38:43Speaker 1: just takes a couple of turns. Don't let J.J. McCarthy
- 38:45Speaker 1: get his shit right.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean, the J.J. McCarthy draft, not including him,
- 38:50Speaker 2: three really good guys. And getting a new coach in
- 38:53Speaker 2: Chicago has helped with Caleb. That's right. Yeah, we got
- 38:56Speaker 2: three really good young guys. Then Stroud, who... And then
- 39:00Speaker 2: he's a little bit on thin ice, but, like, he's
- 39:02Speaker 2: a legitimate starting quarterback. It's just like we had– and
- 39:05Speaker 2: it's also quarterbacks playing longer, I think, too. We had
- 39:09Speaker 2: a long stretch of guys that– I don't know. I
- 39:14Speaker 2: guess it's a surprise to me how fast it feels
- 39:17Speaker 2: like we switched over to, like, the Mahomes, Allen, Lamar guys. Like,
- 39:24Speaker 2: they're getting real close to old guy.
- 39:28Speaker 1: They are. And it's going to be different because we
- 39:30Speaker 1: went through this run where we had super old guys, right?
- 39:33Speaker 1: We had Brady, Breeze, Manning play forever. That's not really
- 39:39Speaker 1: how this works.
- 39:41Speaker 2: It's not how it used to work. I mean, I
- 39:42Speaker 2: guess the question is, is that how it works going forward?
- 39:45Speaker 2: And And Brady, Breeze, Manning are different types of quarterbacks.
- 39:48Speaker 2: So you could make the argument either way, that science
- 39:52Speaker 2: is better, take care of your body is better, so
- 39:54Speaker 2: they'll play longer. But you could also say these quarterbacks
- 39:57Speaker 2: play differently than those quarterbacks, so maybe they won't be
- 40:00Speaker 2: effective as long as those guys.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like the rest of these
- 40:03Speaker 1: cats seem to be still falling apart. You know what
- 40:06Speaker 1: I'm saying?
- 40:07Speaker 2: They are.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I want to run this by the people right fast.
- 40:10Speaker 1: It appears per ESPN has this report and per a memo,
- 40:15Speaker 1: That the owner, Steve Tish, and I think he got
- 40:20Speaker 1: a couple siblings, they own a big piece of the Giants.
- 40:23Speaker 1: So we have referred to Steve Tish as co-owner of
- 40:25Speaker 1: the Giants for a very long time. Anyway, if you
- 40:29Speaker 1: hit Control-F on Tish, he come up in them files, right?
- 40:35Speaker 1: And he came up because the girls was complainin'. They
- 40:39Speaker 1: thought that this was just about a little bit of
- 40:40Speaker 1: bitterness and maybe they go, you know, do the thing
- 40:43Speaker 1: and then maybe he'll put them in a movie. But
- 40:45Speaker 1: it turned out that he was wooking penub in all
- 40:47Speaker 1: the wrong paces. And he kept trying to hang out
- 40:51Speaker 1: with them and they didn't like that. Anyway, it appears
- 40:55Speaker 1: that the Tishes want to put their stakes of the
- 40:58Speaker 1: team into the trust of their children. Epstein strikes again.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Yep.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Everywhere man everywhere like there's nothing obviously that it feels
- 41:12Speaker 2: like there's something around the league that's going to happen
- 41:16Speaker 2: there like they're not doing that for fun like I
- 41:19Speaker 2: imagine that Steve Tisch would have rode this out there's
- 41:24Speaker 2: like my assumption is there's a penalty coming there's a
- 41:26Speaker 2: decision being made that's why these steps are being taken.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So yeah but it's just like up it's crept up
- 41:35Speaker 1: it's here It's here. You got caught up. Got caught up.
- 41:40Speaker 1: You got caught up. Last thing. What you think about
- 41:44Speaker 1: the NFL exploring playing a game on Thanksgiving Eve?
- 41:53Speaker 2: I believe that oversaturation is a thing. Ask the NBA.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I also recognize that If I had something that people
- 42:05Speaker 2: was willing to pay a billion dollars for, I'd figure
- 42:10Speaker 2: out how to make new ones all the time. If
- 42:13Speaker 2: I had a widget that people was like, I give
- 42:15Speaker 2: you a billion dollars for, I would chop that thing up,
- 42:19Speaker 2: step on it so many times, cut that thing, twist
- 42:22Speaker 2: it and reverse it and sell it to them again.
- 42:24Speaker 2: I can't blame them for doing it, but as someone
- 42:29Speaker 2: who's not going to make any more money off of this,
- 42:32Speaker 2: I recognize that. God, like there was part of the
- 42:36Speaker 2: reason why I think the NFL has taken over this
- 42:38Speaker 2: country as far as a media product is concerned. Part
- 42:41Speaker 2: of the reason is because of the value and exclusivity
- 42:46Speaker 2: and the event to eventization of every Sunday, every Monday,
- 42:50Speaker 2: every Thursday. I know we got a long way to go,
- 42:53Speaker 2: but we add 16 to 17. They talk about an
- 42:56Speaker 2: 18 now. We got Christmas. We got all the holidays.
- 43:01Speaker 2: They got some shit on Netflix. They got it on
- 43:03Speaker 2: Hulu and Peacock. And now they want to take Thanksgiving Eve,
- 43:07Speaker 2: which ain't even a thing. I ain't never heard nobody
- 43:10Speaker 2: say Thanksgiving Eve before in my life. But yeah, it's
- 43:14Speaker 2: hard to argue with the finances of it. This is
- 43:17Speaker 2: about the transition that happens for many great art forms
- 43:23Speaker 2: from art to capitalism. Not that this hasn't been deeply
- 43:27Speaker 2: enmeshed in the capitalism in a long time, but it
- 43:29Speaker 2: does feel like the more you just sell, sell, sell,
- 43:34Speaker 2: the cheaper it all becomes.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Yeah, my issue is it's a Wednesday night game. You
- 43:40Speaker 1: mentioned the NBA. I think a mistake, at least to me,
- 43:45Speaker 1: it seems like a mistake the NFL is making. They
- 43:47Speaker 1: don't feel like it matters. But the difference between the
- 43:51Speaker 1: NFL and the NBA is that the NBA is a
- 43:53Speaker 1: player's league. And the NFL is not. The NFL is
- 43:55Speaker 1: a franchise league. It is a brand league. But the
- 43:58Speaker 1: players at some point do matter. And what we've seen
- 44:01Speaker 1: with the NBA as a result of the style of
- 44:03Speaker 1: change is the changes of style of play is that
- 44:07Speaker 1: the players physically cannot withstand it.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Right. Right.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Like we are seeing their bodies break down and therefore
- 44:12Speaker 1: we see less of them and we complain about it
- 44:14Speaker 1: when they try to do the things to protect or
- 44:16Speaker 1: anything else. NFL ain't a game that allow for no
- 44:18Speaker 1: low management.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:19Speaker 1: The stakes are too high. The margins are too thin.
- 44:23Speaker 1: You cannot do that. But all these things they're doing
- 44:26Speaker 1: with the games are just making it more and more
- 44:28Speaker 1: likely to people get hurt. And we've had those stretches
- 44:30Speaker 1: during this season when you get down and it's the
- 44:32Speaker 1: bye weeks and it's not that many teams playing. And
- 44:35Speaker 1: then you start looking around and these cats just aren't
- 44:37Speaker 1: out there. Like there are stretches of the NFL schedule,
- 44:40Speaker 1: like really. And it's really around this time of Thanksgiving
- 44:44Speaker 1: when you start putting these games and all these different
- 44:46Speaker 1: days and what they start diluting and where I think
- 44:49Speaker 1: they're making a strategic mistake when they do this. What
- 44:51Speaker 1: they are diluting is the day Sunday. Yeah. Like, what
- 44:56Speaker 1: makes y'all shit so much different than everything else is
- 44:58Speaker 1: y'all got this whole day that's loaded with stuff. And instead,
- 45:03Speaker 1: you put a little bit here, you put a little
- 45:05Speaker 1: bit there. It's like Major League Baseball. And I think
- 45:07Speaker 1: NFL is going to do this, too, where opening day
- 45:09Speaker 1: is not opening day because you started your season in
- 45:11Speaker 1: Japan two weeks early, right? And you start diluting the– like,
- 45:15Speaker 1: opening day of baseball used to be a thing– that
- 45:17Speaker 1: I cannot explain to people what it is now because
- 45:19Speaker 1: they diluted it so far. So if I'm the NFL,
- 45:23Speaker 1: I get that you can get a little more bread
- 45:24Speaker 1: by doing this, but I would be trying to figure
- 45:26Speaker 1: out how do we protect the sanctity of Sunday? And
- 45:30Speaker 1: to me, that's not what they're doing here unless they're
- 45:32Speaker 1: going to put bums in that game.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I mean, I think that I agree with you. And
- 45:38Speaker 2: the quarterbacks being healthy matters more than anyone else. Like
- 45:41Speaker 2: it's rough when they do those promos and it's TJ
- 45:44Speaker 2: Watt and Miles Garrett. showing up on a Thursday night game.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Like it's a much harder game to sell. The problem
- 45:50Speaker 2: is they still get numbers that dwarf any other thing
- 45:54Speaker 2: that is on TV. So like, there's nothing about, they
- 45:57Speaker 2: have so much breathing room considering that the NBA numbers
- 46:02Speaker 2: get them an absurd number from TV networks. They have
- 46:06Speaker 2: so much breathing room that they're not feeling the pain
- 46:08Speaker 2: of this. And I think that the argument that I
- 46:10Speaker 2: would make if I were them for why this doesn't
- 46:13Speaker 2: change Sunday is, is there's something different about the one-off games.
- 46:17Speaker 2: The one-off games don't change the fact that Sunday is
- 46:22Speaker 2: a deluge, and that's the fun part, right? That's the
- 46:26Speaker 2: event part of it, is that, like, yeah, you get
- 46:28Speaker 2: one game on Thursday, you get one on Monday, we
- 46:30Speaker 2: might give you one on Christmas, we might give you
- 46:32Speaker 2: one on Thanksgiving Eve, but you know when you're going
- 46:37Speaker 2: to get, when you're going to drown in football? Every Sunday.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess that's it, man. But this is, It's
- 46:45Speaker 1: the Mark Cuban, you know, hogs get slaughtered. But that
- 46:49Speaker 1: was 10 years ago. It looked kind of shaky 10
- 46:52Speaker 1: years ago.
- 46:54Speaker 2: It did. Honestly, I'm not sure. I think the big
- 46:59Speaker 2: risk for the NFL, as crazy as this sounds, is
- 47:02Speaker 2: not all these little things that we're thinking about. The
- 47:04Speaker 2: big risk for the NFL is that they become so
- 47:09Speaker 2: expensive that they reduce the amount of buyers that are
- 47:13Speaker 2: in the market. And they lose their leverage because what
- 47:18Speaker 2: they are selling only, only three companies can afford, which
- 47:23Speaker 2: I guess maybe that's why they chop it up.
- 47:25Speaker 1: That is something I had not considered until you just
- 47:27Speaker 1: said it, that I think is very important, which is
- 47:29Speaker 1: with all this media consolidation, man, it's only about to
- 47:31Speaker 1: be three people out here.
- 47:33Speaker 2: And so no matter how, like imagine a concept that,
- 47:37Speaker 2: so here's a good idea. Let's say, let's use the
- 47:40Speaker 2: analogy of the NFL selling diamonds, right? That's awesome. If
- 47:47Speaker 2: you live in a neighborhood where everybody got money and
- 47:51Speaker 2: want to buy diamonds, if the NFL is trying to
- 47:55Speaker 2: sell diamonds, but they on the corner, it don't matter
- 48:02Speaker 2: how beautiful your diamonds are if your customers don't got
- 48:05Speaker 2: the bread. And so they're going to get to a
- 48:07Speaker 2: point where, and I'm sure they're aware of this.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I don't know why you're so sure of that.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure. And with the media continuing like currently,
- 48:18Speaker 2: like media is being allowed to consolidate more and more.
- 48:21Speaker 2: It's like that is the real risk of the NFL
- 48:24Speaker 2: runs from like a business like strategy standpoint is they
- 48:28Speaker 2: have to find a way to make sure that there
- 48:32Speaker 2: are enough bidders in the market that aren't colluding in
- 48:36Speaker 2: any way. that can keep buying this shit as it
- 48:39Speaker 2: keeps going up. Because I don't think the value of
- 48:41Speaker 2: the property is going to go down before we end
- 48:44Speaker 2: up with two media companies that look at the NFL like,
- 48:46Speaker 2: all right, come over here for 30 bucks, go over
- 48:49Speaker 2: there for 31 bucks. That's all you got.
- 48:52Speaker 1: What a time, man. What a time. Also, in case
- 48:56Speaker 1: you guys didn't know, this is going to surprise you,
- 48:58Speaker 1: but Iran will not be participating in the World Cup.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Just in case you were In case you thought they
- 49:07Speaker 1: might show up as the plucky underdog.
- 49:12Speaker 2: The World Cup is in North America this year. Yes.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Which I think if you read the comments, hard to push.
- 49:20Speaker 2: back on what they said.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Yeah, let me ask you this, man. Can you imagine
- 49:23Speaker 1: what would happen if somehow Iran came over here and
- 49:25Speaker 1: they made it to the quarterfinals? Can you imagine if
- 49:30Speaker 1: it was like Iran in the United States playing in L.A.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Hold on. How we get to the quarters? If we
- 49:42Speaker 2: was in the same pool, I guess it's already the
- 49:45Speaker 2: groups have already been decided. But, yeah, if we ended
- 49:48Speaker 2: up in the quarters, like, that would be dramatic.
- 49:52Speaker 1: That is Dominique Foxworth. Check him out on the Dominique
