- 0:00Welcome to the One Small Change again. I am thrilled to embark on
- 0:04this journey of exploration and transformation with you. I'm your host,
- 0:07Yvonne McCoy, and I bring almost 30 years of entrepreneurial
- 0:11experience and a passion for discovering growth
- 0:15through the power of a seemingly small change. And I wanna
- 0:19thank you, as always, for taking time out of your busy schedule to join
- 0:23me. And this week, we're talking to Adriana
- 0:26Keefe. We just met recently, but you are going to
- 0:30be as excited as I am in what she does and what
- 0:34she brings. So she's got a small change that's going
- 0:38to be something that's gonna help you and help you in your
- 0:41business. Adrianna, thank you for coming.
- 0:46Thank you so much for having me. I'm really excited to have this conversation.
- 0:50So tell us about your small change and how it
- 0:53impacted your business. My small
- 0:57change, of course, it's gonna sound really big, but it
- 1:00started really small, was when someone introduced me to
- 1:04the world of human design. But what that really did, what
- 1:08that small change really was was it introduced me to a
- 1:12world of possibilities outside of the physical material
- 1:15plane. It introduced me to the world of energetics,
- 1:19spirituality. And when I was young, I
- 1:22was raised in a house that was Christian, went to
- 1:26church, but it never resonated with me. So as I was
- 1:30growing up, I felt like I didn't believe anything else was out there.
- 1:34And then when I was introduced to human design, it made me question
- 1:37everything that's out there because you were simply
- 1:41taking my birth information and putting it in a system,
- 1:45and it told me everything I felt like I knew about myself when I was
- 1:48younger. Before, I was told that I was too much or that I was too
- 1:52talkative or that I had to sit down and stop being the the star of
- 1:55the show. And so that made me wonder, if this is accurate,
- 1:59what does that mean on the grand grander scale?
- 2:03And so I started exploring energetics and what that
- 2:07means in spirituality and how everything is a
- 2:10cocreation together, how everything is energy, and it's just
- 2:14changed my life ever since. Well, let let me
- 2:17just let me just explore this a little bit because I
- 2:21think that a lot of us are brought up with the idea of
- 2:24religion being the same thing as
- 2:28spirituality. And what I guess I've learned is,
- 2:32one, they are not Yep. But they can definitely
- 2:36coexist. I don't I
- 2:40don't know if that is your point of view or not.
- 2:44I agree. Because back when I was younger, I would have thought
- 2:48eve well, even 5 years ago, I would have thought, oh, no. I'm not spiritual.
- 2:52But I found what it is that I connect
- 2:56with. And even though it's not set under one
- 3:00specific religion, I think they do go hand in hand,
- 3:03but they're also different. I think you can be spiritual and be
- 3:07religious. I think you can be religious without feeling spiritual. I think you can
- 3:11be spiritual without feeling religious. I think there's a lot of
- 3:15connections in there, but you can also have one without the other.
- 3:19Does that make sense? It does to me. And I I mean, for a long
- 3:22time, I did not think that I was very spiritual, and
- 3:26it's something that I I've
- 3:29been working on. And then I had a friend say, you know,
- 3:33being spiritual doesn't mean that you're woo woo. Do you know
- 3:37that you, you know, that you have to,
- 3:41you know, believe in in in things that are that seem very
- 3:45weird. I mean, I do believe that there is a
- 3:48greater force at work. I do
- 3:52believe that that there are you know, we
- 3:56can connect with people, and I do believe in the power of
- 3:59intentions that if you, you know, that you think about something, you
- 4:03can bring things to you because, you know and and I always
- 4:07say, you know, we collect evidence to support our beliefs.
- 4:10So, you know, the more I see that and and and for
- 4:14me, it kinda happens in business as well. It's
- 4:18like, if I put my intention out there to have good relationships
- 4:22with other people in business and let them know what I
- 4:25need, they in turn will let me, you know if they find something that I
- 4:29need, they will bring, you know, point me in that
- 4:33direction, if that makes any sense. So, you know, so you might say this
- 4:36is a referral or this is affiliate program or whatever. But, you
- 4:40know, it seems to me that the best ones come from the people that
- 4:44I've just said, you know, I'm looking for this.
- 4:48Mhmm. It is I like how you say the power of intention.
- 4:52That feels that feels real. I think in the world of
- 4:55energetics and in the world of spirituality, everyone now associates
- 4:59that with manifestation. And people are very wounded
- 5:03by the think positive to attract what you want because that's not
- 5:07always how it works. But I like how you phrase the power of
- 5:11intention because it truly is what our it's all
- 5:14seated in what our intentions are. And so if you
- 5:18just think positive, but your energy the intention
- 5:22behind your energy isn't quite there, it just doesn't
- 5:25it doesn't make sense. It doesn't cocreate, but the power of
- 5:29intention does. Well, I think the other thing is,
- 5:33I'm very much into knowing your purpose and knowing
- 5:37your why. And I don't know if I shared with you, you know,
- 5:41that I lost over a £150,
- 5:45and apparently not from that look. No.
- 5:49I was almost homebound. I weighed £440.
- 5:53And I knew how to lose weight because I had done it before. I I
- 5:56knew that all the rational reasons, you know, that I was gonna die
- 6:00that, you know, for my health and stuff like that. But that was that
- 6:03was not enough to make me do it or to
- 6:07succeed at it. And it wasn't until I found out I was gonna be
- 6:11a grandmother that I was like, I wanna be
- 6:15an active grandmother. I want to play with my grandkids. I
- 6:18wanna be here to see them grow and thrive and, you know, do
- 6:22whatever they're gonna do. And that was the thing
- 6:26that for me made me lose weight, you know,
- 6:30or helped me lose weight and keep it off. You
- 6:33know, and and, you know, I I what I say is, you know, you don't,
- 6:37you know, you need a lifestyle change, not just a diet, and all that kind
- 6:40of stuff. But the first thing is you need to know why you're
- 6:44doing it, and it can't be for somebody else. It has
- 6:48to be something that is really
- 6:51important to you. Mhmm. You know, core to your being.
- 6:561000%. So tell me tell me more. Tell me
- 7:00tell me how this human design and, so
- 7:03so the things that I'm interested in, you know,
- 7:07is you mentioned that the things that that
- 7:11the way you were as a child, people tried to get you to stop
- 7:15doing that, and human design help you to see this is actually who
- 7:19you are. And that's what, you know, one of the things I do is help
- 7:21people get back into their unique, you know, their unique,
- 7:26power, the things that got educated out of them or, you know, the
- 7:29society said they couldn't do. That's exactly it. And that's
- 7:33why our mutual connection connected us because we're doing very
- 7:37similar work just in very different ways. Because human
- 7:40design, if you don't know what it is, it's think astrology
- 7:44on steroids. It is literally the energetic blueprint of who you were born
- 7:48to be before your family, your environment, your teachers
- 7:52conditioned you to be something else. And I'm not saying that that's
- 7:56your parents' fault or your teachers' fault or whoever, but that is
- 8:00just the generation of or multiple generations of,
- 8:03no. We have to look a certain way. We have to act a certain way.
- 8:07We have to put on this facade. And so here I was, this
- 8:11bubbly energetic child. I had so much energy. I still
- 8:14have. I was diagnosed with ADHD, you know, telling me something was wrong
- 8:18with me. And I was always wanting to be center stage. I was a
- 8:22dancer. I was a gymnast an equestrian, but my light was
- 8:25dimmed so much because I took up so much attention.
- 8:30So I went through 20 plus years of my life
- 8:34shut down. I would not be vulnerable. I pro
- 8:38would pride myself on the fact that I didn't feel emotions, that I was numb.
- 8:41I wouldn't open up to anyone. I wouldn't talk to anyone. But then what what
- 8:45I realized when I was pregnant with my second daughter is I had a
- 8:49a huge gaping hole in myself because I
- 8:52felt so deeply unfulfilled. I had everything
- 8:56from the outside that made it look like my life was so wonderful, and I
- 9:00was so deeply unsatisfied. And that made that's that's what
- 9:04ended up with me hiring a life coach who then introduced me to
- 9:07human design because I couldn't understand what was wrong with
- 9:11me. If I have everything, why am I so unhappy?
- 9:15And from the condition standpoint, it was that that was a me
- 9:19problem. Something was wrong with me. Mhmm. So I was in my head. I need
- 9:22to fix my head. I need to fix my brain. And what it ultimately ended
- 9:25up being was that I was just told that I was
- 9:29the wrong type of person as a child, and I lost my
- 9:33essence. I lost everything about me that made me me,
- 9:36which I think everyone can relate to in this day and age. So
- 9:40human design showed me, no. You are supposed to be front and
- 9:44center. You are supposed to be in front of big audiences and on stage.
- 9:47Guess what I do for work now? I literally am a speaker at conferences, and
- 9:51I speak in front of so many people. And everything about me
- 9:55when I was little was preparing me for what I now
- 9:59do for my career because I've done so much of what we call
- 10:02deconditioning work, peeling back the layers of what society
- 10:06made me think I was supposed to be and coming back home to myself.
- 10:10But I do it through the lens of a straw sorry, human design and
- 10:13astrology, but you can do it in many different ways. Well, it
- 10:17I I think it's interesting because, you know, I think,
- 10:23we are beginning to realize that
- 10:29I don't know how to say this. That that the way we were
- 10:32educated before, we ignored the human
- 10:36part of it, if that makes any sense. Mhmm. You know, I have been
- 10:40in, I have just been in 2 programs,
- 10:44and one had to do with eating because I'm revisiting, you know, the way that
- 10:48I'm eating because I'm trying to get my diabetes under control.
- 10:52And one of the things that she did was she took us
- 10:56back to our childhood. Right? When what
- 11:00was the first thing that you remember in your childhood?
- 11:04And it was really amazing because as I went to and she brought
- 11:08us forward, As I went through that, I realized
- 11:12that I never had control of my food. I
- 11:16never got to pick and choose really. I mean, in my family, my mother, you
- 11:20know, she cooked what she cooked, you ate what she said, You
- 11:23know? And, I mean, it wasn't the kind of thing, like, on your birthday, you
- 11:26got a special meal that you could pick anything you wanted or anything like that.
- 11:30And then, you know, fast forward, when I was
- 11:34married, my husband did most of the cooking. He's a wonderful cook, and I'm
- 11:37really happy about it. But he decides, like,
- 11:414 o'clock in the afternoon, this is what we're having. We you know what I
- 11:45mean? You can say, okay. Let's have this tonight. And if he decides
- 11:49he wants to have something different, he has something different. Do you know? And
- 11:52and, you know, not to get me wrong. I mean, if I if I push
- 11:56hard enough and say, can we have this this week, sometime this week? It'll
- 12:00happen, but I it just made me realize how little
- 12:03control I had or exerted,
- 12:07right, over what I was
- 12:11eating. I mean, just going back like that was, like, really amazing. And
- 12:15you take that back, use that same kind of idea, and to
- 12:18money. I mean, how many of us have heard, you
- 12:22know, rich people are awful or, you know Mhmm. For
- 12:26some reason we have shame about money, you know. Yep.
- 12:30I I remember as a graduate, you know, when I graduated, I was making more
- 12:33money than my father who was wonderful at what he did, and I really didn't
- 12:37know what I was doing. And it it was, like, it was embarrassing. Do
- 12:41you know what? It was, you know, I, you know, I couldn't say it. So,
- 12:46I think that maybe as a society, we're getting somewhat
- 12:49smarter, but I I don't know
- 12:55that a lot of us are really open to that. I mean,
- 13:01I guess what I'm looking for is if I talk to if you're
- 13:05talking to somebody who's stuck and thinks that this is,
- 13:09like, way out there, what kind of things do
- 13:12you say to open them up to the idea that there's more?
- 13:17I love this question. And this it's so interesting that you're asking me this
- 13:21specifically because I went to school for science. I went to
- 13:24college for a veterinary, and that's what I worked in for years.
- 13:28And like I said, the the those religious spiritual realm,
- 13:32even though I channeled spirit as a kid, I never believed in it as I
- 13:35grew up. And what I've found through just
- 13:39naturally sharing this and starting a podcast about human design and
- 13:43building my community, what I found is that people say they come to me because
- 13:47I meet them in the science and the spirituality. K. I
- 13:51share about the science of the neutrino stream, which is the imprint of
- 13:54energy that comes from the sun and the planets that comes into our skin
- 13:58and our body when we're born. I share about the science
- 14:02between the 64 gates in the human design or the I Ching
- 14:06and the 64 genetic codon. Like, the research they're showing that they were
- 14:10they're showing the same characteristics. I like to meet people where they're
- 14:14at. That's why if you were to see me walking down the street, I don't
- 14:17typically look like a very, quote, woo woo spiritual
- 14:21person, but I deeply am. But
- 14:24I think because I have that that nice mix of both, people
- 14:28really resonate with that, and they ask me for more of the science. And I
- 14:31love I love researching that, so I love to share it.
- 14:35That's interesting. And and I guess the other part is,
- 14:41I think if we have kids, we don't wanna
- 14:45repeat the mistakes. And so how does
- 14:49you being more enlightened impact your your
- 14:52kids? Beautiful question.
- 14:56I will start by saying I am not a perfect mother. I do have
- 15:003 kids, 3 young kids, and it is challenging. They're
- 15:0310, 5, and 3, and they test me. And, also, I
- 15:07see every single day an opportunity to do things differently.
- 15:11The way that I was raised was there was physical
- 15:15abuse. There was emotional abuse. There were other abuses that I will
- 15:19refrain from talking about. And I really have the opportunity
- 15:22to catch myself in the brief pause before I react.
- 15:26And it's gotten a lot easier as I've grown into
- 15:30parenting, but I will say the I have
- 15:34this picture of my daughter who is 5. She
- 15:37was using emotional freedom technique, which is tapping. This is like
- 15:41tapping on the acupressure points of the body. And this is what I use with
- 15:45her. She's a very highly sensitive she's a Cancer in astrology. Just
- 15:49everything about her is sensitive. And she was
- 15:52potentially on the spectrum. We don't really know. I think she's just very sensitive.
- 15:56So I taught her an abundance of tools. And my older
- 15:59daughter was very sick. And she was
- 16:03crying, and she had a bad headache. And my I have a picture of my
- 16:065 year old going in and tapping with her. And it was one of those
- 16:10see, I'm gonna cry. Just thinking about it. It's one of those moments where I
- 16:13just recognize how much here we go. How
- 16:17much differently I am doing it than my parents where they are allowed to
- 16:20have their emotions. And they're also given tools to help the emotion
- 16:24move through their body so they don't end up with disease and disorders like I
- 16:28have for years of my life. So it's really taught me so
- 16:31much in how to be a parent
- 16:35or or any anyone of an older generation to the new generation coming
- 16:39in and how we can just do things better, what not to do, I
- 16:42guess. Well, you know, the thing that that I realized is
- 16:46my my kids are grown adults. And so I have, you
- 16:50know, kids, I have grandkids, I have 1 great grand. And it's
- 16:54interesting because what I find is
- 16:58as I change and learn new things, I try to share
- 17:02that with my kids. And so it's interesting to
- 17:06you know, the first the first reaction is, oh my god. I can't believe I'm
- 17:10doing what my parents did or, you know, what my mother did. That's
- 17:13like, you know? Mhmm. And and then, you know,
- 17:17probably the the two things that helped me when I was parenting
- 17:21was I read an article that
- 17:24said, the things that drive you crazy with your kids
- 17:28when they're young are the things that are probably gonna make them
- 17:32highly successful when they become adults. Yep. And
- 17:36it's so true. I mean, my youngest daughter is so I mean,
- 17:40as a child, she was, like, so persistent, and as an
- 17:43adult, she's so persistent. And I've watched her, you
- 17:47know, get a grant to help her buy a house to, you know, get,
- 17:51you know, her son into good schools and, you know, that kind of stuff.
- 17:55And so that was a really good I mean, that was kind of, like,
- 17:58the savings grace that I didn't try to, you know, grind them
- 18:02down to the, you know, not not that I didn't do some grinding
- 18:06because it was convenient. Yeah. You
- 18:09know? The other thing was
- 18:13that someone said be consistent. As a
- 18:17parent, be consistent. Don't be a surprise to your kid because
- 18:21you're trying to be something else. So, you know, if
- 18:24there's something that that if you you wanna be a certain
- 18:28way way, you should do that. So for instance, they were saying,
- 18:32you know, don't say to your kids, what do you want for dinner if
- 18:35they really only have 2 you know, you're only willing to cook 2 1 of
- 18:392 things. Yeah. And that was, like, so helpful to
- 18:43me. I mean, especially when, you know, my plate was full and
- 18:47I was going to graduate school and I was working and they were young and
- 18:50I would come home and say, you know, you know, we have this for
- 18:53dinner or, you know, this and they would say, well, can we have oatmeal? And
- 18:57I'm like, yes. I can do oatmeal.
- 19:01Yep. So okay. Before we run out of time,
- 19:05tell me, like, three things that entrepreneurs
- 19:09can do, that would help them be open to the kind
- 19:13that, you know, that they can either start using right now that's gonna help them
- 19:17or be more open to what you do. Entrepreneurs,
- 19:21especially, the way that energetics and
- 19:24your any sense of spirituality or cocreation with energies bigger
- 19:28than you, the way that that's at play can help you so much.
- 19:32So it doesn't matter if you're interested in human design, astrology,
- 19:35numerology, whatever feels like it's piquing your interest right now.
- 19:39Just start by going and downloading your chart or figuring out your life path
- 19:43number if it's numerology, whatever that is, and just start taking in information
- 19:47that's making you feel curious without putting pressure on it. Just start with
- 19:51what feels interesting. 2nd, I would
- 19:54say start to question or explore and reflect on
- 19:58the things in your life where your body has told you
- 20:02the answer and you didn't listen. And what I mean by that is,
- 20:06like, your gut. You had a bad gut feeling about someone, and then the
- 20:10your body ended up telling you you were correct or the
- 20:14way that you were right about something. Maybe your gut was like, get off the
- 20:17highway here, and you didn't know why, but you chose
- 20:21to, and you avoided an accident. Reflect on those moments
- 20:25where you've had this deeper knowing that was in your body that you couldn't
- 20:28explain, And start building that trust muscle with your body
- 20:32having knowledge that's greater than what we can logically think
- 20:35of. 3rd, I would say start surrounding
- 20:39yourself with more like minded people who are also
- 20:43ready for growth and evolution. I live by that Jim
- 20:47Jim Rohn quote. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most
- 20:50time with. You will, on a personal and spiritual development
- 20:54journey and as an entrepreneur, outgrow relationships. It is a 1000% going to happen, and
- 20:55it will get very lonely. It is a 1000% going to happen,
- 20:59and it will get very lonely, especially on the online world, if you don't surround
- 21:01yourself with other people who are also ready to grow. So those would be my
- 21:043 things. I gotta tell you,
- 21:11the first two are great, but the third is
- 21:15is so powerful. You know, someone talked
- 21:19about the law of proximity. Mhmm. And when you
- 21:23are with people who are,
- 21:27you know, that that are at a higher place or, you know, ahead
- 21:31of you and stuff, it is so rewarding for
- 21:35you. But I think it also is a chance for them to give
- 21:39back as well, And so they feel
- 21:42they feel, empowered as well, and it
- 21:46is so it will help your business grow so
- 21:50much faster because you are growing so much faster. And they
- 21:54will introduce you to people, And, again, I think that that's where
- 21:57intention comes in. You know, not that it's like, I'm gonna
- 22:01look for people that can help me. The intention is I wanna
- 22:05look for people who share the same values I do that are
- 22:09interested in the same kind helping people the way that I
- 22:12do. And I just, you know, I have found that to be,
- 22:17incredibly valuable this last 2 years or so.
- 22:20So, you know, So absolutely. So tell us about your freebie
- 22:24before we, run out of time. Absolutely.
- 22:28If anyone's interested in human design and they wanna understand that, you can
- 22:32download your chart right on my website for free, adriannakeefe.com,
- 22:36and I have a whole free workshop on there you can watch. I have an
- 22:39entire guide you can download. It will link you to podcast
- 22:42episodes to learn more about your design. So that's a great place
- 22:46to start if you're interested. That's fantastic. That
- 22:50is so that's an action step that you can take right
- 22:53away just to see just if your if your curiosity
- 22:57has peaked at all. I I would highly recommend that you
- 23:01do that. Thank you. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt
- 23:04you. No. That was a I mean I mean, that was great. I have a
- 23:07retreat coming up, but that's not free. But if you feel like you need a
- 23:11full immersion, then that's an option too. That's available. That was the other thing.
- 23:14I was gonna say I did I was gonna ask about the retreat, and this
- 23:18is the first one you're doing. Is that right? It is my first. It's my
- 23:22partner not my partner's first, though. So if you're
- 23:25listening to this later, go I'm sure you can check on your website.
- 23:29Yes. And if this is not the one you can come to, the next one
- 23:32will be there, and so you should definitely take a look at
- 23:36this.
- 23:39So the last question I have for you is when
- 23:43was the last time you did something new for the first time?
- 23:48Well, aside from this retreat, because this has been a big expansion. I've had to
- 23:52grow a lot in hosting this retreat, yesterday, and it
- 23:55actually has to do with the 5 people quote. I
- 23:59live in a small town in Massachusetts, and I'm very
- 24:02much the rainbow sheep. I don't fit in here. And I
- 24:06was finding that I was very lonely on in the local physical
- 24:10world. So I found some people who were also
- 24:13in spirituality, health, and wellness of some sort, and I asked if
- 24:17they wanted to put together a little group mastermind where we meet up often and
- 24:21we connect. And so the 4 of us met yesterday, and
- 24:24it was an energetic exchange that just, like, created my
- 24:28entire week is gonna be, like, phenomenal because of it. And now I have this
- 24:32new group of women with all different expertise, all different
- 24:35levels of business that I get to lean on locally, which I think is
- 24:39gonna be a game changer for all of us. Fantastic. That is
- 24:43really I mean, that is really walking the walk.
- 24:46You know? I mean, it's like we talked about proximity
- 24:50surrounding yourself with people. I I hope this turns
- 24:54out to be a really great move for you. Thank you. Bye. Believe
- 24:58it or not, we are running out of time. And so
- 25:02I gotta give you the commercial, which is make sure that you,
- 25:06subscribe, that you share this, that you engage in the podcast on
- 25:10social media. I wanna make sure that, you know,
- 25:14I did this to supercharge your business through connection.
- 25:18And it's my way of giving back to this community and fueling your quest
- 25:22for growth and impact because I think we all need, some
- 25:26extra booster shots or something that can energize us on a regular
- 25:30basis. So I hope that you will join me on the one small change
- 25:33and that we can embark on this journey together where even the smallest
- 25:37shifts can yield monumental transformations.
- 25:41And sometimes they're not what you expect, but
- 25:45they're what you need. So if you listen to our first episode, you know,
- 25:48if you haven't done that, and then you can dive into the other ones
- 25:52that will help you to have a bold vision and, you
- 25:56know, have some innovative possibilities. So, Adriana, do you
- 25:59have any last words you have a quote you wanna leave people with? Something that
- 26:03you say all the time? Well, I already quoted it.
- 26:07I'll let it do it again. If if it's good enough once, it's good enough
- 26:10twice. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most
- 26:14time with, so pick those people wisely. And that can be
- 26:18painful sometimes, but it is crucial. It is crucial.
- 26:23So that's fantastic. And I think the thing that you said that people,
- 26:27forget is that a sign of growth is that
- 26:31you're shedding some of the people or the clients that you're with, and nobody
- 26:35tells you that. No. That you can actually outgrow
- 26:39your friends and your clients. Yeah. And I think that's
- 26:42important to know. So we have to call it quits, but I want
- 26:46you to remember that change can be simple, but it's not always
- 26:50easy. It requires courage, resilience, and a willingness to step
- 26:53outside your comfort zone. So I hope you will join me again for
- 26:57the one small change and look for those
- 27:01possibilities. Until the next time, I wanna make sure that
- 27:04you stay curious and look into other new things.
- 27:08So, Adrianna, thank you so much for spending this time and giving us
- 27:12the free gift and your insights in how we
- 27:15can evolve as as humans on this earth and do good.
- 27:19Thank you so much. I appreciate being here. Till next
- 27:23time, everybody. Bye.
