- 0:19Speaker 1: Hi, this is Lance Henderson, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Listen if you dare.
- 0:28Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:29Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:32Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:34Speaker 4: It is intended for mature audiences, and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:38Speaker 5: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:13Speaker 5: What's up?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm Misty.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And I'm Jay.
- 1:30Speaker 4: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from Lexington,
- 1:33Speaker 4: home of Scarefest. We are once again back at Scarefest.
- 1:39Speaker 1: How many years has it been? I didn't go last year.
- 1:41Speaker 5: 11,000.
- 1:41Speaker 4: That's a lot of years. Pretty much every year since
- 1:44Speaker 4: Scarefest began being Scarefest. So, I feel like it is
- 1:48Speaker 4: part of our history, our tradition. So, we made our
- 1:52Speaker 4: annual stop at Scarefest.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And then the bookstores.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Well, that's a given, obviously. If you leave the house,
- 1:57Speaker 4: you're going to bookstores.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 4: So, before we get into that, have you seen anything? Interesting.
- 2:08Speaker 4: We'll say spooky, but it's post-Halloween. But still, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 4: we're at Scarefest, so, you know.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Boyfriend's finally starting to realize that horror movies is the
- 2:17Speaker 1: way to go when it comes with me, so he's
- 2:19Speaker 1: actually picked the last two movies that we watched. He
- 2:23Speaker 1: has been in charge of, and he picked two horror movies,
- 2:25Speaker 1: so I'm very proud of him. Would you like to
- 2:27Speaker 1: discuss the very first one you picked? Sure. Go for it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Go for what? Oh.
- 2:33Speaker 1: What did we watch? Uh... Oh, yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Blood Rage.
- 2:38Speaker 1: A.K.A. Slasher. Slash. A.K.A. Slash. Whatever other titles it had.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Because apparently it had quite a few titles.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Is this the Thanksgiving one?
- 2:47Speaker 1: It's not Cranberry Sauce.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I am not going to listen because we're doing this
- 2:52Speaker 4: for Thanksgiving this year.
- 2:55Speaker 1: We're beating you to it.
- 2:56Speaker 4: You better just give it a roundabout because we're going
- 3:00Speaker 4: to be getting into it in another.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Week or so.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Okay. Well, we watched that. So I guess since you're
- 3:05Speaker 1: going to cover it, we won't go into too many details.
- 3:07Speaker 4: You can give your general thoughts on it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's not cranberry sauce. All right. I fully enjoyed this movie.
- 3:15Speaker 4: See, I couldn't tell. We brought it up, and I
- 3:18Speaker 4: was like, well, I know it's got some sort of
- 3:20Speaker 4: basic tie-in, which is all you really get for Thanksgiving.
- 3:23Speaker 4: There's not a lot of Thanksgiving horror.
- 3:26Speaker 3: There are a few.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Nothing as horrendous as last year, but that's why I was.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Like, anything. What did you watch last year? Oh. Oh.
- 3:36Speaker 4: And nothing bad about the first one. I love the
- 3:38Speaker 4: first one. But that second movie, Slash 3, is an atrocity.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I love Turkzilla. Was it Greg that made that?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that was pretty good.
- 3:49Speaker 4: That's a food item. That's totally different.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But it came along with it. It was part of
- 3:53Speaker 1: the extravaganza, the original extravaganza.
- 3:55Speaker 4: The original time. But yeah, that one, yeah, you couldn't...
- 4:01Speaker 4: couldn't I watched it all that's all I have to
- 4:05Speaker 4: say so I was like okay what can we watch
- 4:08Speaker 4: that's gotta be better than that let's at least go
- 4:11Speaker 4: old school slasher hey look here's a thing.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I fully enjoyed it and I did enjoy the brief
- 4:15Speaker 1: cameo at the very beginning of the condom salesman at
- 4:19Speaker 1: the bathroom of the drive I want to spoiler alert
- 4:22Speaker 1: it for you I.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Think I saw his name listed anyway so spoiler alert
- 4:26Speaker 4: for you guys but I'm gonna know because I'll have
- 4:28Speaker 4: watched it in the very as.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I was watching I'm like holy shit Is that Ted Raimi? Yep.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I thought I saw his name in there. I was like, well,
- 4:36Speaker 4: he likes to do horror. He'll show up for horror stuff.
- 4:38Speaker 1: It's literally like five seconds. Maybe ten. I don't know.
- 4:42Speaker 1: He's selling condoms.
- 4:43Speaker 4: That means they can slap him on the poster and
- 4:45Speaker 4: nowadays slap him on the box. Starring Ted Raimi.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He was at the drive-in. Apparently he was selling condoms
- 4:50Speaker 1: at the drive-in.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah, in the bathroom.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Like you do.
- 4:52Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Which might.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Okay, because it's pretty early on, so I'm not going
- 4:56Speaker 1: to ruin anything. If you go into the drive-in and
- 4:59Speaker 1: you're going to make out.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Prepare.
- 5:02Speaker 1: No, who gets fully naked at a drive-in? Like, fully
- 5:07Speaker 1: ass naked.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I mean, based on other movies that I've seen, a
- 5:11Speaker 4: lot of people.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I would think that made people around, you'd be a
- 5:14Speaker 1: little bit more covert. You'd keep a little bit of
- 5:16Speaker 1: clothes on.
- 5:16Speaker 4: But you're at least supposed to plan ahead and get
- 5:19Speaker 4: a van. And then you just go in the back
- 5:22Speaker 4: and do whatever you want.
- 5:23Speaker 1: They were just in a car, not even tinted windows,
- 5:25Speaker 1: because this was like, what? Yeah, they didn't... Take place in.
- 5:30Speaker 3: 70s.
- 5:30Speaker 1: The first opening scene takes place in the 70s.
- 5:32Speaker 4: They didn't have functional tinting.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That's a 90s thing. So you're in a fairly populous area,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and completely buck naked. Because when the murdering takes place,
- 5:43Speaker 1: the chick runs from the vehicle... Ass naked, running, running, running, screaming.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Now I am sold on this movie.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Dude. So, aside from it's not cranberry sauce, it was.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Let me ask you this, because we were just going
- 5:58Speaker 4: over this. Where did you see it?
- 6:01Speaker 1: In our living room?
- 6:02Speaker 3: But, I mean.
- 6:03Speaker 4: On Tubi. Were you watching it? Okay, you watched the
- 6:06Speaker 4: Tubi one and it had nakedness? All right. Because there's
- 6:08Speaker 4: supposedly a cut out there where they cut out almost
- 6:11Speaker 4: all the violence... And all the nudity.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the made for. Like, that's what a
- 6:14Speaker 3: horror movie is. It was made for a cable TV version.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. Because they gave it a different name and everything.
- 6:20Speaker 4: But there are at least three different lengths of various
- 6:24Speaker 4: cuts out there floating around. So I'm like, we'll probably
- 6:27Speaker 4: all just go with Tubi because it's accessible. So as
- 6:30Speaker 4: long as it's got blood and nudity, that's all we're
- 6:32Speaker 4: looking for. Happy Thanksgiving.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And then for this past Friday night extravaganza boyfriend shows.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Uh. He chose it. You don't also expect him to
- 6:44Speaker 4: remember it. Come on, man.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Hold on, dude. I've been hit in the head a lot.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You know the drill.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Slumber Party Massacre.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Slumber Party Massacre.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Nice.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Tie into earlier today. But before we get to that, okay,
- 6:59Speaker 4: what's your wrap up on Slumber Party Massacre?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Boobies.
- 7:02Speaker 4: All right, well, sold and sold.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Lots of damn boobies.
- 7:06Speaker 4: It is a slumber party, and they're old slumber party people.
- 7:09Speaker 4: This ain't like six-year-olds, so it's all right if they
- 7:12Speaker 4: get naked.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It's fine. There's a lot of nudity with open windows.
- 7:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yeah. Again, this is how things used to work in
- 7:19Speaker 4: the old-timey world.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Well, you know.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Specifically movie old-timey world.
- 7:23Speaker 3: In the movies, yeah, but I don't remember boobies being
- 7:26Speaker 3: all over the place when I was a kid. No, no.
- 7:28Speaker 4: I was looking in those windows, but I did not
- 7:30Speaker 4: see any.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And that bitch knew how to make some Kool-Aid. Because
- 7:34Speaker 1: the girl who was invited to the party but didn't
- 7:36Speaker 1: go because she heard everybody talking bad about her in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the locker room because apparently she's just too pretty.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I hate when that happens.
- 7:42Speaker 1: She starts making them Kool-Aid and I'm like, yeah, bitch,
- 7:44Speaker 1: just pour that sugar in there. Yeah, it was... Because
- 7:49Speaker 1: usually when you watch a slasher movie, you don't know
- 7:51Speaker 1: who the killer is until the movie's almost over.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I feel like that came later. Because I watch a
- 7:57Speaker 4: lot of weird 70s stuff and I'm like, oh, they're
- 7:59Speaker 4: just showing us. They're just telling us.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Well, that's kind of what they did with this. I mean,
- 8:04Speaker 3: you see the killer like almost immediately.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But you have no idea who, does he have a name?
- 8:09Speaker 3: I don't think he does. You don't know why he's
- 8:12Speaker 3: doing it. He's just doing it. But he looks like.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I mean, they do make an announcement on the radio
- 8:15Speaker 1: that it escaped. It's like on the radio or the
- 8:18Speaker 1: TV that somebody escaped out of prison or an insane asylum.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm not sure if it's the same guy.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Well, who out how other many people are going around
- 8:25Speaker 1: killing people all over the place?
- 8:27Speaker 4: It's kind of an either or situation for that era, though,
- 8:30Speaker 4: because I feel like there were a lot that I
- 8:32Speaker 4: remember even into the 80s that like before you got
- 8:34Speaker 4: to the big name slashers, like there were all these
- 8:36Speaker 4: other ones that were like, and here we're going to
- 8:39Speaker 4: watch these people that we know slash people.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 4: So we you from the get go, you're watching the
- 8:45Speaker 4: character that you've started with start killing people.
- 8:47Speaker 3: He didn't seem very intimidating or scary.
- 8:50Speaker 1: He was wearing double denim.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Yeah. He just seemed kind of just weird.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And how did you feel about his weapon of choice?
- 8:58Speaker 1: You bitched about that the whole goddamn time.
- 9:00Speaker 3: It was not a cordless drill. They had just taken
- 9:02Speaker 3: a regular drill and, well, I mean, a larger drill
- 9:05Speaker 3: with an auger bit and cut the cord off of it.
- 9:09Speaker 3: And you ran around with that the entire time.
- 9:11Speaker 4: That makes it cordless. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 3: That's how it works.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 3: No, not at that time.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Was there no rechargeable batteries for one of those at
- 9:18Speaker 1: that time? Even if there was, you took no time
- 9:21Speaker 1: to charge it at any point.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I don't remember... I don't remember us
- 9:27Speaker 3: ever having any rechargeable tools at that time that was
- 9:32Speaker 3: that big.
- 9:35Speaker 4: It would have drained it in like two minutes.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah, rechargeable tools back then, they didn't last very long.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure there probably were some in the 80s,
- 9:46Speaker 3: but I really, I mean, it would have.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Had to been the late 80s. This is why, once again,
- 9:50Speaker 4: I opt for Murder Party. Did you watch Murder Party?
- 9:53Speaker 1: No.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Holy shit. You totally need to watch it this Halloween.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Except we already passed it.
- 9:58Speaker 3: But for this coming.
- 10:00Speaker 4: next Halloween. Go back in time and watch it. Yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 4: it is so freaking awesome. And there's a very specific
- 10:06Speaker 4: power tool thing that goes on that's like, oh, well, see,
- 10:09Speaker 4: there you go. This is how things work.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 3: But it's funny because at one point, one of the
- 10:14Speaker 3: girls picks up a circular saw and That's plugged into
- 10:18Speaker 3: the wall and she runs after him. And then the
- 10:23Speaker 3: cord gets yanked out of the wall and it stops.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It pulls her ass down the stairs.
- 10:27Speaker 3: It pulls her ass down the stairs.
- 10:28Speaker 4: They understood how it worked.
- 10:30Speaker 3: They understood that. They just sort of pick and choose.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I'm supposed to believe that this guy running around with a...
- 10:36Speaker 3: And the drill bit apparently is like razor sharp because
- 10:38Speaker 3: he can take it and not only drill through people,
- 10:41Speaker 3: but apparently just hitting them with it just splits them
- 10:44Speaker 3: in half.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You could really get that drill to, like, screw into
- 10:46Speaker 1: the shelf the other day.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 10:50Speaker 4: It's a magic drill bit plus two bonus hit points.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Yeah, did he decapitate somebody with that? I can't remember.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I don't know if he did it with that, but
- 10:59Speaker 1: he might have. Maybe he took some time in the garage. Yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Modified it. Souped it up a little bit.
- 11:04Speaker 3: The one guy that was supposed to be, like, the
- 11:06Speaker 3: good-looking football guy.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Oh, my God, he was so hideous. He looked like
- 11:10Speaker 1: a grown-up version of that one kid from Trick or Treat.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Yep.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Like the one who ate all the candy.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Imagine him as like a jock 30-year-old because there's no
- 11:20Speaker 1: way that guy was not.
- 11:21Speaker 4: So we're halfway there in Bad Santa.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I never watched that. But he's supposed to be
- 11:26Speaker 1: the hot guy. Yeah, the guy that like the hot
- 11:28Speaker 1: bitchy girl was like hooking up with. That was the
- 11:31Speaker 1: guy who lost his head. But we didn't see it happen.
- 11:34Speaker 4: So we don't know.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Maybe he used other tools that were in the garage
- 11:36Speaker 1: when we weren't there.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe.
- 11:39Speaker 3: And the weird neighbor that was using a hatchet to
- 11:42Speaker 3: kill people.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Fucking snails. Was it a hatchet or was it a.
- 11:48Speaker 3: The meat cleaver, sorry.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Well, that's just going to slime up your meat cleaver. Yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 4: you're going to use the meat cleaver.
- 11:53Speaker 1: He didn't want them getting in his veggies. Geez.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I guess.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Isn't there a better way to keep snails from getting
- 11:58Speaker 1: in your vegetables than prowling around at night slashing at
- 12:02Speaker 1: them with a goddamn meat cleaver? Like a fucking weirdo.
- 12:05Speaker 4: They're all lined with salt. Might also raise a demon
- 12:09Speaker 4: or something, but you'll at least keep the slugs away.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Dude, there was just so much going on in this.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And of course there was a shower scene, and there
- 12:17Speaker 1: were so many shots of just like, look, here's an
- 12:19Speaker 1: ass for a good 10, 20 seconds. Enjoy yourself.
- 12:22Speaker 4: They know what they're doing.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And then, yeah, there were so many, but Brink Stevens
- 12:26Speaker 1: had a brief appearance in it.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Oh, there you go.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Previous guest, Brink Stevens.
- 12:29Speaker 1: She was gorgeous.
- 12:31Speaker 4: She was very cool.
- 12:34Speaker 1: She was the one that got killed in the bathroom. Shower.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Oh.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Well, I guess she... Yeah, was she still in the
- 12:38Speaker 1: shower at that point? I don't remember.
- 12:40Speaker 3: She was hiding in the shower closet.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Under a desk?
- 12:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 1: As one does.
- 12:45Speaker 4: You know, where you keep the desk in your shower closet.
- 12:49Speaker 1: We'll probably watch the sequel later, because I'm pretty excited
- 12:51Speaker 1: about that one. I saw the poster, and it looks
- 12:53Speaker 1: feckin' amazing.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 4: They always have to up it just a little bit.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Not the same person. Different person.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 4: That was also the era when they would just hand
- 13:04Speaker 4: off and... take a series and entirely new people will
- 13:08Speaker 4: be like, and we're going to make the sequel.
- 13:10Speaker 3: And this guy's inspired by the killer.
- 13:12Speaker 4: If you bought the rights to it, I guess you
- 13:14Speaker 4: are going to make the sequel, aren't you?
- 13:16Speaker 3: Because I think originally we were going to try to
- 13:18Speaker 3: watch Maximum Overdrive.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Another classic.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I couldn't find it anywhere for free and I wasn't.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Going to I guess I could have looked forward to
- 13:26Speaker 1: the bookstore.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I do not remember seeing it. I was going through
- 13:31Speaker 4: most of the old movies.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I haven't seen Maximum Overdrive since the 80s.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it has been a long time.
- 13:37Speaker 3: It's been a really long time. I don't remember anything
- 13:41Speaker 3: about it aside from the cover.
- 13:43Speaker 1: The one with the semi?
- 13:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I remember the big green goblin head and Who Made Who.
- 13:49Speaker 4: The oh so subtle plug of like a giant Is
- 13:53Speaker 4: it a van that's got the ACDC logo on the side?
- 13:57Speaker 4: It is just billboard driving through your movie of like,
- 14:00Speaker 4: oh yeah, don't forget to buy the.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Soundtrack, kids. I don't know if I ever saw it.
- 14:04Speaker 1: If I did, I was young enough that I don't
- 14:06Speaker 1: remember any of it.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Well, it's going to be one of your favorite movies,
- 14:11Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Will it now?
- 14:14Speaker 4: What more do you want? You got an Estevez.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Do you not like Estevez?
- 14:19Speaker 1: Not particularly.
- 14:20Speaker 4: I mean, it's not Charlie Sheen. You got that going
- 14:22Speaker 4: for you.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah. He's just weird looking.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Emilio?
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 4: He's not weird looking.
- 14:28Speaker 3: He's Emilio.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 4: He does look just like Emilio.
- 14:31Speaker 3: He's Estevez. Emilio Estevez.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And he cheated on Demi Moore.
- 14:35Speaker 3: I didn't even know he was going out with Demi Moore.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 14:38Speaker 3: That was a.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Long damn time.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure I heard that he cheated on her.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And I'm like, dude, no.
- 14:42Speaker 3: It was like mid-80s.
- 14:43Speaker 1: You were too weird looking to be cheating on hot chicks.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it was kind of weird. Who cheats on Demi Moore?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Emilio Estevez.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Apparently.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Yeah. That's weird.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Maybe Demi Moore is just really annoying. Maybe she nags
- 14:59Speaker 3: him too much.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Is that what it was?
- 15:01Speaker 4: I don't know. Demi, if you'd like to come on
- 15:04Speaker 4: and give your side of the story, please get a
- 15:06Speaker 4: hold of us.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I mean, Emilio's probably got nothing else to do.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Well, but he's not doing anything anymore. He wants to
- 15:11Speaker 4: be a director and doesn't want to act, except when
- 15:13Speaker 4: they make the duck movies and turn them into a series.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Because for some reason, he came out of semi-retirement to
- 15:20Speaker 4: be in the hockey ducks mighty ducks yeah they made
- 15:24Speaker 4: a series the hockey ducks they made a series of
- 15:28Speaker 4: hockey ducks and he came out of retirement to be
- 15:30Speaker 4: in it their.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Ice ball game he's playing with them ducks i don't
- 15:35Speaker 6: really care about them sports i don't know if you
- 15:36Speaker 6: noticed the sports ball got this stick basketball that's a
- 15:42Speaker 6: classic no.
- 15:45Speaker 1: What was the one with the dog Air Bud.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Or Air Bud Golden Receiver.
- 15:50Speaker 1: The fact that you both immediately got it right.
- 15:54Speaker 4: There's about 17.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I won't keep giving you bad dog.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Puns as the subtitle. Oh, man. Golden Receiver. Just saying.
- 16:01Speaker 1: No. Yeah, I would highly... If you have not yet
- 16:06Speaker 1: seen Slumber Party Massacre, first of all, the fuck are you...
- 16:10Speaker 1: What's wrong with you?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Full endorsement.
- 16:13Speaker 3: This is probably one of those movies.
- 16:17Speaker 3: That would have definitely been like a, like one, one
- 16:21Speaker 3: of my friends, we had found this tape that he
- 16:25Speaker 3: had taped.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Was it in the woods?
- 16:27Speaker 3: No, no, it was actually, it was behind his entertainment center.
- 16:31Speaker 3: We were like, what's on this? And apparently it was
- 16:33Speaker 3: one of those where he had just stayed up late
- 16:35Speaker 3: at night and like just recorded all the booby parts
- 16:39Speaker 3: from all the horror movies.
- 16:40Speaker 1: That's half this movie.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Which is pretty much half this movie. So this would
- 16:44Speaker 3: have been a movie.
- 16:44Speaker 4: I mean, Any teenage boy would be proud to know
- 16:47Speaker 4: that man.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Back before you could get porn on the internet. That's
- 16:52Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Kids today don't understand. Like, you got the internet. It's
- 16:55Speaker 4: a world of difference.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you weren't looking at fuzz.
- 17:00Speaker 4: You weren't going to the library to check out National Geographic.
- 17:06Speaker 4: It was a different world, kids. I don't think you understand.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Unless you're an old person. But by then, you've probably
- 17:13Speaker 4: already seen Slumber Party Massacre or something. Ah, so you
- 17:18Speaker 4: said there was something else you'd watch?
- 17:19Speaker 1: I watched a TV show, a series. It was probably
- 17:23Speaker 1: one of the most disappointing experiences that I've had in
- 17:26Speaker 1: a long time. Because aside from like R.L. Stine and
- 17:30Speaker 1: Fear Street, Christopher Pike was like one of the major
- 17:33Speaker 1: fucking things that I enjoyed as a, you know, kid
- 17:38Speaker 1: slash teenager. I still.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Christopher Pike is your jam.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It is. It's right there. I am here for it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I love Christopher Pike. And when you take Christopher Pike,
- 17:49Speaker 1: who I have a deep love and appreciation for, and
- 17:51Speaker 1: you take fucking Michael Flanagan, and you mix these two
- 17:55Speaker 1: things together, that should be glorious.
- 17:59Speaker 4: He's the Riverdance guy, right? Yeah, exactly. It's Michael Flatley.
- 18:03Speaker 4: It's sad that I actually did remember.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I mean, Flanagan, you know, Oculus was fucking amazing. The
- 18:10Speaker 1: Haunting of Hill House, fucking amazing. The Haunting of Bly Manor.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Fucking amazing.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 1: The Midnight Club. Oh my god, bullshit. Because, okay, have
- 18:24Speaker 1: you heard anything about The Midnight Club?
- 18:26Speaker 4: No, I think I may have seen that it was
- 18:28Speaker 4: out there, but once again, there's way too many shows
- 18:30Speaker 4: and I can't even put a dent in them.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Okay, first of all, the book was kind of, the
- 18:34Speaker 1: book was at least somewhat depressing, but it wasn't that bad.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It was a bunch of, it's got a bunch of
- 18:37Speaker 1: kids in a hospice, which first of all, not going
- 18:39Speaker 1: to be a good time to begin with.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But they all get together at midnight and they tell stories.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Some of them are like kind of uplifting stories. Some
- 18:47Speaker 1: of them are just creepy stories. You know, they just,
- 18:50Speaker 1: they tell stories. Oh my God. Because see, when I
- 18:56Speaker 1: was like, oh, that's going to be the greatest thing ever.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I love these things. There's no way this can possibly
- 19:00Speaker 1: go wrong.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Oh, you're setting yourself up for disappointment there.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Dude.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I don't ever set the bar that high.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Dude or dudes. It was, when you take an entire,
- 19:09Speaker 1: because Christopher Pike, which is, I love him. He could
- 19:12Speaker 1: write a convoluted, complicated, what-the-fuck story like nobody else. And
- 19:18Speaker 1: when you try to cram all of that into maybe
- 19:21Speaker 1: a 20-30 minute segment?
- 19:24Speaker 3: Why?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Why are you doing this to me? Because you can't
- 19:30Speaker 1: explain everything that he put forth in this entire book.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Because it was like, each episode's an hour long. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: at least half of it's devoted to fucking depressing-ass kids
- 19:40Speaker 1: dying in a hospice.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Does sound fun.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it is like every there and it's just one
- 19:47Speaker 1: mood from the entire beginning to end there's no like
- 19:51Speaker 1: high point it is just oh we're all dying okay we're.
- 19:55Speaker 4: At the end of the show yeah you're not selling
- 19:57Speaker 4: me on this uh yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I don't yeah i don't intend to i mean and
- 20:01Speaker 1: some of the adaptations were better than others because but
- 20:06Speaker 1: Because there's one story, The Haunted Heart, which they took
- 20:09Speaker 1: at least three episodes to try to flesh it out.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So at least that one, I felt like it was
- 20:15Speaker 1: at least okay. They left out the Nazis, but sometimes
- 20:19Speaker 1: you got to leave the Nazis out.
- 20:21Speaker 4: If you're killing Nazis, you can always put them in stuff.
- 20:23Speaker 4: People love watching Nazis die.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Because the book was this whole thing about there was
- 20:27Speaker 1: this evil spirit. That's why the Nazis were so bad.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And it's just a thing. And then they did Road
- 20:32Speaker 1: to Nowhere. Which is one of my favorite Christopher Pike books.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And they turned it into absolute bullshit.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Nice.
- 20:43Speaker 4: That's what you were looking for.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It is an entire book dealing with life and death
- 20:47Speaker 1: and the good and evil and suicide. There were several
- 20:51Speaker 1: in there that had suicide warnings. And it even had,
- 20:54Speaker 1: which I do enjoy, a good, is it Henry Thomas?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Thomas Henry. Fucking Elliot was in it.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Yeah, Henry Thomas.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Henry Thomas. Which was too goddamn old to be
- 21:02Speaker 1: playing the character in the role.
- 21:04Speaker 4: But he's famous. We got Henry Thomas.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I know. It was just Flanagan. He could probably get
- 21:08Speaker 1: a whole bunch of people who were at least in
- 21:09Speaker 1: the same age range. Oh, it was just awful. I mean,
- 21:15Speaker 1: out of the, was it ten episodes? How many did
- 21:18Speaker 1: I end up on my phone during?
- 21:20Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know. I was on my phone during
- 21:22Speaker 3: most of it.
- 21:23Speaker 1: When you didn't completely just leave the house.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 21:28Speaker 4: The review is a show to look at your phone by.
- 21:31Speaker 1: If you want a good background sound that makes you depressed,
- 21:34Speaker 1: here you go, because that's all you're going to get.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Although it does have the Guinness World Record for the
- 21:40Speaker 1: amount of jump scares in an episode of TV. The
- 21:45Speaker 1: very first episode where it just literally devolves into bullshit
- 21:48Speaker 1: jump scares, which they even call out in the show. Remember,
- 21:52Speaker 1: she just, ah, ah, ah. You remember the guys walking
- 21:55Speaker 1: on the street. Yeah. You were already gone by the
- 21:58Speaker 1: first episode.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I was already gone by the first episode. I was
- 22:01Speaker 3: already like, I don't fucking care.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So it just gets a big old round of meh
- 22:06Speaker 1: for me, you know? I was... I mean, the cast
- 22:10Speaker 1: was okay. The house looked beautiful, but from what I've heard,
- 22:12Speaker 1: the house wasn't even, like, there. Like, the entire outside
- 22:17Speaker 1: of the house?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Like.
- 22:20Speaker 4: CG'd it or matte painted it?
- 22:21Speaker 1: CG.
- 22:21Speaker 4: No, CG. See, matte paintings I can get on board with. CG.
- 22:25Speaker 1: But you can't tell.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I was going to say, if it's done now, you
- 22:28Speaker 4: can probably make it where you can't tell.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I mean, the house is beautiful.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Inside, creepy. But then they just, they go way too
- 22:36Speaker 1: into stuff that's not fucking important. Or, they never got
- 22:40Speaker 1: into why the creepy dead people, like the creepy old
- 22:42Speaker 1: guy and the creepy old woman are there.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they didn't go into that, did they?
- 22:46Speaker 5: No.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Saving it for the next season that they're not.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Going to get. Well, they're eating all the years that
- 22:53Speaker 1: people don't have left.
- 22:54Speaker 3: What?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Not in the book. And they had this whole subplot
- 23:00Speaker 1: about well, all these years ago in the 60s there
- 23:03Speaker 1: was this one girl who came to this hospice and
- 23:05Speaker 1: she somehow managed to live. Also not in the book.
- 23:08Speaker 1: You're just trying to make yourself a little bit more
- 23:10Speaker 1: interesting than you are and you're still failing horribly. So,
- 23:15Speaker 1: spoiler alert, it's not great.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Not sold me at all.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I would rather watch all the Fear Street. I would
- 23:25Speaker 1: rather watch those again. Because those were at least fun.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Until you get to 3. And then the first half
- 23:30Speaker 4: of 3 is a snooze.
- 23:31Speaker 1: But the wrap up is tolerable. I would rather watch
- 23:34Speaker 1: the third part of 3. Or the third part of
- 23:36Speaker 1: the series. Because I loved the Fear Street. I did.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Except for the third one. Until you get to the
- 23:45Speaker 1: mall again.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:47Speaker 1: This one did not have a mall to save it.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's also supposed to be set in the 90s, but
- 23:51Speaker 1: yet very felt un-90s. Aside from them constantly throwing 90s
- 23:56Speaker 1: songs at you.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Well, again, we had that on Peter Street. But at
- 23:59Speaker 4: least they did it possibly overly. They did it on
- 24:03Speaker 4: top of each other 90s songs.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Oh, this started off that way. It started off and
- 24:07Speaker 1: it's just like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. But then
- 24:11Speaker 1: they were again doing songs that weren't yet released. slobby
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know like the one spoiler alert one of them
- 24:19Speaker 1: in the hospice dies so at the funeral they're singing
- 24:23Speaker 1: time of your life by green day and i'm pretty
- 24:25Speaker 1: sure it was not yet out in whatever year this
- 24:28Speaker 1: was placed maybe i'm wrong you're gonna did you look
- 24:34Speaker 1: at it no but i saw somebody else bitch about
- 24:36Speaker 1: it online oh yeah I think this was supposed to
- 24:39Speaker 1: take place in like 94, 95? What time? Or what
- 24:42Speaker 1: year did?
- 24:43Speaker 4: No, that is kind of about that time. Is it?
- 24:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Released in 1997. So, yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Not at all of it. I also put, was it
- 24:52Speaker 1: Flagpole Siddha? What year did Flagpole Siddha come out?
- 24:55Speaker 4: Probably around the same time. When did that Katie Holmes
- 24:58Speaker 4: movie come out? Because it's in there.
- 25:00Speaker 1: That was a good movie.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I like that movie. Mostly Katie Holmes.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Galactic Pulse said it came out in 97. There you go.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Way off.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I was pretty sure it came out in the late 90s.
- 25:14Speaker 1: So, yeah. Not in there. Or not in that time frame.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Seems like somebody, I mean, how long did it take
- 25:21Speaker 4: you to Google that? Seems like somebody working on a
- 25:25Speaker 4: movie that, even if it's not multi-million dollars or TV series,
- 25:29Speaker 4: but either way, all it takes is one flunky working
- 25:33Speaker 4: on a crew to be like, hey, I can see
- 25:35Speaker 4: when this song came out.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Probably what it was was.
- 25:37Speaker 1: This song will really fit right here.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Yeah, this song will really fit right here. Well, it
- 25:41Speaker 3: didn't come out. Well, it was the 90s. It'll be okay.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Nobody will remember.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Aren't there any nerds on your crew that are just like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hey,
- 25:48Speaker 4: I gotta call you out on that. This is what
- 25:50Speaker 4: I do.
- 25:50Speaker 3: No, because they're probably counting on a lot of kids
- 25:52Speaker 3: watching or teenagers or whatever.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Yeah, which then they don't know any better.
- 25:56Speaker 3: They don't know any better because it's 90s. They're like,
- 25:58Speaker 3: it's 90s, right?
- 25:58Speaker 4: It's on that 90s channel on my SiriusXM.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Same thing with a lot of shows where they do
- 26:06Speaker 3: 80s stuff. They'll have certain 80s songs. Same way.
- 26:10Speaker 4: I like that I have teenagers listening to SiriusXM. Not
- 26:14Speaker 4: retired people, which is who actually keeps them in business.
- 26:18Speaker 4: People who rent cars and retire people.
- 26:20Speaker 3: What are the kids listening to?
- 26:21Speaker 4: They're just streaming it off of some site.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I was going to say my kid listens to Spotify,
- 26:27Speaker 3: but then I listen to Spotify, but then she's not
- 26:29Speaker 3: really a kid anymore.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I'll just get stuff off of YouTube because it doesn't
- 26:32Speaker 4: cost anything. And actually they have a better mixed up
- 26:35Speaker 4: lineup than freaking Spotify. Spotify runs out of songs.
- 26:38Speaker 3: In an hour.
- 26:40Speaker 4: And I'm like, look, I got all day to listen
- 26:41Speaker 4: to stuff. So YouTube, you don't even hear a repeat
- 26:45Speaker 4: unless it's like a live version or something like, but
- 26:48Speaker 4: as far as tracks, like it's a way better version
- 26:50Speaker 4: of streaming music at this point.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But yeah, just one big disappointment after another. I was just,
- 26:58Speaker 1: by the time I was done, I was just kind
- 26:59Speaker 1: of like hate watching it.
- 27:00Speaker 4: I was just like, I can see you doing I'm like, no,
- 27:04Speaker 4: I'm going.
- 27:04Speaker 1: To watch it because you have like two weeks to help,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you know, get more Meg. Because that's what I've been hearing.
- 27:11Speaker 1: When something comes out on a streaming service, if you
- 27:13Speaker 1: don't watch it within two weeks, there's a good chance
- 27:15Speaker 1: it's going to get canceled. Probably. If you love something
- 27:17Speaker 1: and you want to watch it, even if you don't
- 27:19Speaker 1: watch it all at once, just like turn it on
- 27:21Speaker 1: and go to bed. Make sure that shit gets watched
- 27:24Speaker 1: in some form or fashion within two weeks or you're
- 27:28Speaker 1: not helping. Which I don't give a shit.
- 27:30Speaker 4: At this point, yeah, I don't.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But I mean, I don't know. They would have just
- 27:37Speaker 1: fleshed out the actual stories instead of just like, oh no,
- 27:40Speaker 1: we're going to make it this way. No, don't do
- 27:42Speaker 1: it that way. It didn't work. So I'm hoping that
- 27:46Speaker 1: if they get a chance to make more, then maybe
- 27:50Speaker 1: it'll try to redeem itself. But I'm... Or at least
- 27:54Speaker 1: if this is a somewhat successful venture, maybe they will
- 27:58Speaker 1: make some that are good.
- 28:01Speaker 4: We'll see. I mean, at this point, it's all kind
- 28:03Speaker 4: of got a following. Whether it's good or not, but
- 28:06Speaker 4: at least it's got enough following that maybe they'll keep
- 28:08Speaker 4: throwing money at the idea. So, hopefully so. I don't know.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Big disappointment.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Well, I watched one thing just recently to kind of
- 28:20Speaker 4: get into the mood for our Scarefest activities. And I
- 28:24Speaker 4: hadn't seen it in a very long time. Speaking of
- 28:27Speaker 4: the 90s, I watched Wes Craven's New Nightmare. So, how
- 28:32Speaker 4: long has it been since you've seen New Nightmare?
- 28:35Speaker 1: Oh, go back to The Midnight Club. That was the
- 28:38Speaker 1: one highlight of the show for me, was that Heather
- 28:40Speaker 1: Langenkamp runs the hospice.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Well, there you go. That is a direct tie-in, because
- 28:45Speaker 4: she is the star of this movie.
- 28:48Speaker 3: But.
- 28:48Speaker 4: It's been years.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's been years since I've seen it.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I had not seen it.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like I remember watching it when it first
- 28:55Speaker 4: came out, and then I... knew of it and remembered
- 28:59Speaker 4: it finally more or less but i could not tell
- 29:01Speaker 4: you the last time i sat down and watched it
- 29:03Speaker 4: and it's amazing just how like ahead of the curve
- 29:07Speaker 4: it was it is 1994 i looked up to make
- 29:10Speaker 4: sure because i was like i know it was way
- 29:12Speaker 4: before every movie became a reboot in its own franchise.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Also the same setting a self-aware.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Of its own franchise of the thing that they're doing
- 29:22Speaker 4: set in the real world where the movies existed in
- 29:25Speaker 4: this thing. Like, it is everything that's become the last
- 29:28Speaker 4: 10 to 12 years of, like, definitely everything post-Scream, but, like,
- 29:32Speaker 4: everything definitely 2000s era just became super self-aware. And this,
- 29:38Speaker 4: for 1994, was.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Way ahead of that curve and was already doing a
- 29:42Speaker 4: pretty well-developed version of the same idea. So, points to
- 29:46Speaker 4: Wes Craven, once again, for being ahead of where the
- 29:50Speaker 4: rest of everybody was going to end up 20 years later.
- 29:55Speaker 4: And I forgot, John Saxon is a good amount of
- 29:57Speaker 4: screen time.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I forgot.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I mean, I know he's in the first one, but
- 30:01Speaker 4: I forgot they worked him back in as much as
- 30:03Speaker 4: they did. But he becomes kind of a semi-main character
- 30:06Speaker 4: before it's over with. As much as anybody is. It's
- 30:09Speaker 4: mostly Heather and then that kid from Pet Sematary. Who
- 30:12Speaker 4: just basically walks around and creepily sings the Freddy song
- 30:15Speaker 4: to himself and says never sleep again. He just sort
- 30:19Speaker 4: of talks to himself for about half the movie at least.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't remember it. It's been way too many years.
- 30:25Speaker 4: He's a creepy kid, but Those kids are creepy. They
- 30:28Speaker 4: play that one a lot. But the whole thing is
- 30:30Speaker 4: Heather trying to save this kid. Yeah, it's pretty damn entertaining.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I was very impressed with just how ahead of everything
- 30:39Speaker 4: that one was. And still has some good... It changes
- 30:43Speaker 4: up the Freddy stuff. It changes his glove. It changes
- 30:47Speaker 4: sort of his... Even his face looks slightly different. It's
- 30:50Speaker 4: a very different variation on all this stuff. But yep,
- 30:54Speaker 4: that was... That was my viewing as of recent to
- 30:57Speaker 4: get geared up. I mean, we were just standing very
- 31:00Speaker 4: close to Robert Englund a little while ago, so got
- 31:04Speaker 4: that going for us.
- 31:05Speaker 1: We waited in line briefly to see Lance Henriksen, but
- 31:08Speaker 1: he was not there at the table, so I gave up.
- 31:10Speaker 4: He had other stuff to do.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Obviously. I was just like, because I'm like, first of all,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I mean, I love, I love Scarefest. I don't want
- 31:17Speaker 1: to say anything bad about Scarefest. What I'm going to
- 31:19Speaker 1: say is not specifically about Scarefest in general. I don't
- 31:21Speaker 1: like people.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Well, it's probably even harder for all of us coming
- 31:25Speaker 4: out of the last two years of just not even
- 31:29Speaker 4: doing anything. Not only not being around tons and tons
- 31:33Speaker 4: of people, but most people didn't leave the house for
- 31:35Speaker 4: a good year and a half. So it's weird just
- 31:38Speaker 4: getting out among people, let alone a whole lot of
- 31:42Speaker 4: people and for a very focused thing. So, yeah. It's
- 31:46Speaker 4: very strange.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I mean, there was a lot... Because that was one
- 31:49Speaker 1: of my favorite things about Scarefest, was that you could
- 31:50Speaker 1: go to it, and generally it wouldn't be that crowded.
- 31:52Speaker 1: You could, like, you know, not worry about bumping into
- 31:56Speaker 1: somebody or inadvertently smelling somebody who hasn't left the house
- 31:58Speaker 1: in the past year and a half. But this was just,
- 32:01Speaker 1: I mean, and good for them. I mean, there was
- 32:04Speaker 1: just a lot, a lot of people.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I think that was with conventions in general, though, because
- 32:10Speaker 3: the more I remember it, back in the day when
- 32:14Speaker 3: we started doing the conventions... They never seemed like they
- 32:18Speaker 3: had that many people.
- 32:19Speaker 1: And Horror Hound was always a clusterfuck.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yeah, but... Not counting Chicago, because that was nothing but people. Yeah, jeez.
- 32:28Speaker 4: But all the other offshoot ones, yeah.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I think a lot of it had to do
- 32:30Speaker 3: with where it was and what city it was in.
- 32:33Speaker 3: But for the most part, they still weren't as packed
- 32:38Speaker 3: as they are now. It just seems like now everybody's gotten, like,
- 32:45Speaker 3: People that wouldn't have been on board with the whole thing. And,
- 32:48Speaker 3: you know, with anything else, it draws new fans. And
- 32:50Speaker 3: that's cool. There's no problem with it. But I feel
- 32:53Speaker 3: in the beginning days, it was still very much the
- 32:57Speaker 3: older kind of VHS crowd of old horror fans. And
- 33:02Speaker 3: then now it's gotten more because then we had, like,
- 33:05Speaker 3: remember when The Walking Dead became big.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Everybody's mom came to horror conventions then. I mean,
- 33:11Speaker 4: it was like, oh, I.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Want to see that Daryl.
- 33:13Speaker 4: He's so hot.
- 33:15Speaker 1: He's so greasy.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it went on from there. It got more and
- 33:18Speaker 3: more popular. People started bringing more of their kids because
- 33:21Speaker 3: in the beginning, remember, you didn't really see people bringing
- 33:24Speaker 3: their whole family.
- 33:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:26Speaker 3: And now it's like a whole family deal.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Which is good. I like that. But yeah, it's definitely
- 33:34Speaker 4: a change from when we started.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's what I think. I think there are
- 33:39Speaker 3: more people that are into it nowadays, which is what's
- 33:42Speaker 3: causing the huge crowds.
- 33:45Speaker 4: I've referenced that in the past too. I was like,
- 33:47Speaker 4: I think even just talking to, to like people like
- 33:49Speaker 4: actors and stuff, I'm like their career hits that turning
- 33:53Speaker 4: point of like before when it was just like the
- 33:57Speaker 4: handful of hardcore dorks. And then once the convention scene
- 34:00Speaker 4: became a scene, yeah, everything just went up a notch,
- 34:04Speaker 4: you know, it's like, and then that is just like
- 34:06Speaker 4: domino effect since then.
- 34:08Speaker 3: We'll remember some of the celebrities, uh, And how easy
- 34:12Speaker 3: it was to get their autographs and to be at
- 34:14Speaker 3: the table. I mean, for goodness sakes, Danny Trejo. I mean,
- 34:22Speaker 3: the first time we saw Danny Trejo, there was not
- 34:25Speaker 3: really a line in front of his table.
- 34:28Speaker 4: I think that's changed across the board. For any of
- 34:31Speaker 4: those bigger names, yeah, they all... For all of them.
- 34:35Speaker 4: plan to go ahead and wait for a while because
- 34:37Speaker 4: everybody that's a recognizable name, they have got a line.
- 34:40Speaker 4: And that wasn't always the case, but again, I know
- 34:43Speaker 4: they love that. So I can't, I can't knock it.
- 34:45Speaker 4: It's what keeps them in.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I'm not knocking it at all. It's great for them,
- 34:48Speaker 3: but I'm just saying, remember at that one point, I'm
- 34:51Speaker 3: thinking that that has a lot to do with, you know,
- 34:53Speaker 3: the popularity of it is it wasn't as popular. And well,
- 34:58Speaker 3: It was in that small group.
- 35:00Speaker 4: It was a cult thing, and only the cult showed up.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but now that it's gotten, like I said, with
- 35:04Speaker 3: The Walking Dead and a lot of the other things,
- 35:08Speaker 3: Face Off. Is it Face Off? The makeup show? The
- 35:12Speaker 3: makeup show. That's brought new people into horror because they're like, oh, wow, this.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Is a cool show. Also a big thing, accessibility.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Accessibility like you go back to the old.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Days the vhs hardcore geeks like that's how they were
- 35:25Speaker 4: still watching half that stuff because that's the only way.
- 35:27Speaker 3: It was available and you're having to order it through
- 35:29Speaker 3: mail order there is.
- 35:30Speaker 4: As we said earlier so much weird stuff on tubi
- 35:33Speaker 4: and every other free channel that's just sitting on your
- 35:36Speaker 4: roku now just waiting for you to go all right
- 35:38Speaker 4: let's try this and then sometimes they really like them
- 35:41Speaker 4: so yeah it's i think it's just become easier for
- 35:44Speaker 4: people to become casual fans and now even casual fans
- 35:48Speaker 4: show up to a horror.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Convention yeah Yeah, you know, you see, just, you know,
- 35:52Speaker 3: there were people that I saw there that you were like,
- 35:55Speaker 3: normally looking at them, they were not people that you
- 35:58Speaker 3: would think of that would go to a horror convention.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Like somebody's grandparents?
- 36:02Speaker 3: Yeah, people's grandparents, you know, stuff like that. Oh, I
- 36:05Speaker 3: do like the horror.
- 36:06Speaker 4: The family of Chuckies we saw earlier.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 4: There was a mom Chucky and a kid Chucky and
- 36:11Speaker 4: a whatever, what's her name?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Tiffany.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Tiffany. And then, what was the other one? Oh, she
- 36:17Speaker 4: was something totally different. I think she was throwing off
- 36:19Speaker 4: the whole deal. She was Freddy, actually.
- 36:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Because he was there. But, yeah, she was not. One
- 36:25Speaker 4: of these things is not like the other, is what
- 36:27Speaker 4: I'm saying. But, yeah, it was the whole family just
- 36:30Speaker 4: hanging out, taking pictures on the Stranger Things couch. There's
- 36:34Speaker 4: another one that, like, that was sci-fi more when it started,
- 36:38Speaker 4: but definitely this new season was full-on horror. And, yeah,
- 36:42Speaker 4: so think how many people watched Stranger Things when that
- 36:45Speaker 4: new season hit. Like, everybody.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I did love the new season.
- 36:50Speaker 4: It was so much fun.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Except for the... I could do without the entire Russia. Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 4: I mean, that was definitely... Was it Russia?
- 36:56Speaker 3: It's Russia. That was the low point.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Because it just... They weren't really accomplishing that much.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And it just kept going. Yeah.
- 37:02Speaker 4: It kept going on. And their annoying friend gets on
- 37:06Speaker 4: my nerves. Who's the lawyer guy or whatever his name
- 37:09Speaker 4: is that went with Winona? He's just kind of obnoxious.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I can't remember his name.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, he comes in handy before the thing's
- 37:16Speaker 4: over because he is a master of Kung Fu. It's Obviously,
- 37:19Speaker 4: to look at him, you would assume that.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. That was definitely the low point.
- 37:23Speaker 4: But everything else was awesome.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Eddie.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Eddie. Eddie's super cool. We all know.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I loved Eddie. He's my favorite part.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Eddie was great.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And the fact that he could take and become this
- 37:36Speaker 1: character in a show that's already so established and become
- 37:40Speaker 1: so well-liked. Yeah.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Kind of steal the spotlight from these people that have
- 37:44Speaker 4: spent years now becoming the big stars that they are
- 37:47Speaker 4: because of that show. And he just kind of walks
- 37:49Speaker 4: in and he's like, hey, I'm Eddie.
- 37:51Speaker 1: This is my show now.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I'm taking over this show. You can try to kill
- 37:54Speaker 4: me off, but people are still going to love me.
- 37:56Speaker 1: And I did. I do.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Most definitely.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Still waiting for him to come to a convention, but
- 37:59Speaker 1: good God, can you imagine how long that line's going
- 38:01Speaker 1: to be?
- 38:01Speaker 3: Well, yeah, just the amount of Hellfire Club shirts we
- 38:05Speaker 3: saw today. That is true.
- 38:06Speaker 4: That's what we should have been counting was Hellfire Club shirts.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I lost track of how many Sams we saw.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 4: It was, you know, Halloween tie-in. So you got a
- 38:13Speaker 4: lot of Sams and What was the other one you
- 38:16Speaker 4: kept seeing?
- 38:17Speaker 3: I saw several Beetlejuices.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:20Speaker 4: I think that's become a staple now. I think it really...
- 38:23Speaker 4: He is a universal horror classic monster now.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I've seen more at this convention than I think I've
- 38:28Speaker 3: ever seen.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Once again, accessibility. I went to the Spirit Store the
- 38:32Speaker 4: other day, and there's an entire section of just Beetlejuice.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Every version of the costume for both boy and girl,
- 38:38Speaker 4: and then all kinds of toys and stuff.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Is there a slutty Beetlejuice? Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:43Speaker 4: There's just so much stuff that's like.
- 38:45Speaker 3: Please, you have to ask if there's a slutty version
- 38:47Speaker 3: of anything.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Duh.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I was impressed to see the cartoon Lydia today.
- 38:53Speaker 3: See, I didn't see the cartoon Lydia.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I was happy to see that.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I only saw the movie Lydia.
- 38:57Speaker 1: You saw several movie Lydia's.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Well, I like the movie Lydia that was with the Dietz. Or,
- 39:03Speaker 3: not Dietz. That were with the Maitland's.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I did see a couple of them.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Because I saw a couple of red dress Lydia's.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:12Speaker 1: And I saw the black dress.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I didn't see black dress.
- 39:15Speaker 1: She was hanging out with a Beetlejuice.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 39:18Speaker 3: They were at a booth. I forgot about that. I
- 39:20Speaker 3: didn't realize that.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I was assuming she was a Lydia.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I thought that was just her normal.
- 39:25Speaker 4: I mean, there it probably could be. It could just
- 39:27Speaker 4: be her going to the grocery. So who knows? But... yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 4: I know among certain fans that the cartoon is not
- 39:35Speaker 4: beloved or people that worked on it that we won't
- 39:37Speaker 4: go into right now. But yeah, I always loved the show.
- 39:40Speaker 4: And like most people I knew that grew up at
- 39:42Speaker 4: that time loved the Beetlejuice cartoon. So it's good to
- 39:45Speaker 4: see it having a resurgence because that girl was what,
- 39:47Speaker 4: maybe 20? So obviously she rediscovered it much later because
- 39:52Speaker 4: she was not old enough to remember it. I know
- 39:54Speaker 4: that much.
- 39:55Speaker 1: To bring it back around, we did have a tie-in
- 39:57Speaker 1: that we saw at the convention because you were pretty excited. Yeah.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Because there was a person dressed, it was a, I
- 40:06Speaker 3: guess a guy and his girlfriend. He was dressed up
- 40:10Speaker 3: like the main killer from Slumber Party Massacre. And she
- 40:15Speaker 3: was dressed as the main killer from Slumber Party Massacre 2.
- 40:18Speaker 4: That is rowdy.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Nice.
- 40:21Speaker 4: You have to, you know, you have to give points
- 40:23Speaker 4: for going a little obscure and then for stumping all
- 40:27Speaker 4: of the regular people that are now there that are
- 40:29Speaker 4: just like, what are they supposed to be? Yeah.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Why is he carrying a big drill? Why is she
- 40:34Speaker 3: carrying a guitar with a drill bit on the end
- 40:35Speaker 3: of it?
- 40:36Speaker 4: They're just rock stars. You know, those weird rock stars. Well,
- 40:40Speaker 4: on that note, I'd say that about wraps up our
- 40:42Speaker 4: activities here in Lexington for today. But we do want
- 40:45Speaker 4: to say thank you to Scarefest for letting us come
- 40:47Speaker 4: and be part of the fun. If you're interested in

- 41:11Speaker 7: Another turning point A fork stuck in the road Time
- 41:16Speaker 7: grabs you by the wrist Directs you where to go.
- 41:21Speaker 3: So make the best of.
- 41:23Speaker 7: This test and don't ask why. It's not a question
- 41:28Speaker 7: but a lesson learned in time. It's something unpredictable but
- 41:34Speaker 7: in the end it's right. I hope you had the
- 41:37Speaker 7: time of your life. So take the photographs and still
- 41:52Speaker 7: frames in your mind. Hang it on the shelf in
- 41:56Speaker 7: good health and good time. Tattoos of memories and dead
- 42:01Speaker 7: skin on trial.
- 42:03Speaker 3: What it's worth, it was worth it.
- 42:07Speaker 4: All the while.
- 42:08Speaker 7: It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
- 42:14Speaker 4: I hope you had the time of your life.
- 42:47Speaker 7: I hope you had the time of your life. It's
- 43:05Speaker 7: something unpredictable, but in the endless right, I hope you
- 43:11Speaker 7: had the time of your life.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Why is there a kid on a car?
- 43:32Speaker 4: That's not where you put your kids.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I'm not supposed to have.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Children for this very reason.
