- 0:00We of the coming day stand at the head of a new age of
- 0:04development, which must lead to such a new and larger synthesis.
- 0:10We are not called upon to be orthodox vedantins of any of the
- 0:14three schools or tantrics, or to adhere to one of the theistic
- 0:20religions of the past, or to entrench ourselves within the
- 0:24four corners of the teaching of the Gita.
- 0:28That would be to limit ourselves, and to attempt to
- 0:31create our spiritual life out of the being, knowledge, and nature
- 0:35of others, of the men of the past, instead of building it out
- 0:40of our own being and potentialities.
- 0:43We do not belong to the past dawns, but to the noons of the
- 0:48future. A mass of new material is
- 0:51flowing into us. We have not only to assimilate
- 0:55the influences of the great theistic religions of India and
- 0:58of the world, and a recovered sense of the meaning of
- 1:02Buddhism, but to take full account of the potent though
- 1:06limited revelations of modern knowledge and seeking.
- 1:11And beyond that, the remote and dateless past which seemed to be
- 1:16dead, is returning upon us with an effulgence of many luminous
- 1:21secrets long lost to the consciousness of mankind, but
- 1:25now breaking out again from behind the veil.
- 1:29All this points to a new a very rich, a very vast synthesis.
- 1:36A fresh and widely embracing harmonization of our games is
- 1:40both an intellectual and a spiritual necessity of the
- 1:44future. But just as the past synthesis
- 1:48have taken those which preceded them for their starting point,
- 1:52so also must that of the future to be on firm ground.
- 1:57Proceed from what the great bodies of realized spiritual
- 2:00thought and experience in the past have given among them, the
- 2:05Gita takes a most important place.
- 2:09Oh peace, peace, peace.
