- 0:25So what I want to do, right is this little thing where I call
- 0:29up most of our like most regular players from this past year, sort of
- 0:34wish them a merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and then bang, surprise,
- 0:40it's a quiz. I was going to say, that's cute, and then
- 0:44you said, bang, are you going to Are you going to text them
- 0:51to let them know that you're calling them ahead of time? Are you?
- 0:54Just like surprise Christmas attack? Maybe a little text before, but mostly just
- 0:58to say, oh, to say happy Christmas. See that's the part that
- 1:02I think the text will be useful for it because neither of us would just
- 1:06call someone. Oh yeah, that's true. Like any phone call anyone receives
- 1:11from me is probably an emergency. Yeah. Oh they might think I've died
- 1:18nowhere. Then I wouldn't be calling. Yeah, but yeah, just shoot
- 1:22a little text, shoot a little like a little yeah, like everything's fine,
- 1:26but I will be calling you. But I will be calling you.
- 1:29I've not lost a leg. Yes, no one is maimed, no one
- 1:33is named. It's just I'm maimed by Christmas spirit. Yeah, there we
- 1:38go. People say we all say that to each other every Christmas. And
- 1:44I'll definitely be calling Jason as well. But I thought we could test the
- 1:47format, you know, the call that I'll do with everyone. I thought
- 1:51we could test that right here. So first question I'll ask them after surprising
- 1:55them, yeah, will be what's your favorite Christmas film? Audre? Oh
- 2:00um, I know it's old? Okay, White Christmas, White Christmas.
- 2:07Okay, just give me one second. Let me look through my database.
- 2:12Do you have a database of every Christmas? Every Christmas movie? And I've
- 2:15got a quiz for each one of them. That's what you've been doing on
- 2:19evening. Yep, complete waste of time because we'll only do about five of
- 2:23them. But you know, the neglecting your cat children. So White Christmas,
- 2:28I have it here. I The top question to ask the person who
- 2:31selects White Christmas is would you say you're an old soul? A boring?
- 2:37So? I don't know. It's not a boring film, it's a good
- 2:38film. I don't know if I'm an old soul or if I'm just like
- 2:44obsessed with ancient crafts. I don't know. Okay, I don't know the
- 2:47ancient crafts of nineteen fifties cinema. Yes, Um, maybe I'm an old
- 2:53soul maybe maybe is that, but not like old and like an angry on
- 2:58the front porch, yellow teens old soul. No, you're not a maga,
- 3:05I'd say. I'd say my soul has the wisdom of age. Okay,
- 3:08your soul has the wizard. Your soul has the wisdom of age.
- 3:13Yeah, okay, yeah, so that's why you've gone with a seventy five
- 3:15year old film. Yes, yes, okay. Next next question that I
- 3:20hope stresses you out less on this this Christmas Eve. I just want to
- 3:23do a good jobs. You do know we'll have a bit of a meta
- 3:28section. Now, you do know you're a captain on this show, right,
- 3:30you can take charge, you can tell me off you. That's a
- 3:34lot of expectation. Okay. With great power comes great responsibility. No.
- 3:39Twenty twenty twenty, good spider Man, nice, thank you. Twenty twenty
- 3:44three. We're going to make you as bold and confident as Jason. It's
- 3:47it's going to happen. Am I just going to like do cocaine before that
- 3:53might help? Just to be clear, Jason does not. Jason just naturally
- 3:55has a good amount of energy. No, but I do think that hard
- 3:59dry Okay, Well, well, speaking of white powdery things, White Christmas,
- 4:06what's your favorite moments or scene from White Christmas. What's like the iconic
- 4:11moment or scene for you. I think the most iconic one would probably be
- 4:15the um the I don't even know Mandy song, Mandy There's I'm in that
- 4:25one. Um, it's incredible. Everybody in like the green suits and vera.
- 4:30Ellen gets shot out of a cannon in the floor and it's no,
- 4:35she gets raised. The dancer who dances with her gets launched down in the
- 4:40floor. But dang, it's just in my mind it's iconic. When I
- 4:45was a kid, I thought that that was going to be my wedding dress,
- 4:47okay, and that you'd be shot out of a cannon. Yes,
- 4:51I'm sorry, I couldn't oblige. That's fine. So that that even all
- 4:57the other Christmasy scenes, the ones that are even more Christmasy, that's the
- 4:59one that it's your favorite, that's the one that stands out. Yeah,
- 5:01it's just the one, the one that I would want to rewatch. Also,
- 5:05I was a singing and a dancing kid, and so you were so
- 5:10a big musical number. Yeah, tons of props everything. It's one of
- 5:14the main ones where they show the full number in its entirety. Everyone's going
- 5:19full out. Yeah, so ah, not a good choice. Good choice,
- 5:24good film, good scene, good choice. Next question about white Christmas?
- 5:29Why is it that back then and also now men look young and healthy,
- 5:32but sort of in the Middle Times they looked old as hell? Why
- 5:36is that? Okay, Okay, I'll give you an example. Bing Crosby
- 5:41and Danny Kay were fifty one and forty three when making this movie, and
- 5:45I think they look pretty good for fifty one forty three. And now you've
- 5:47got like Chris Pratt who's in The Guardians Christmas Special and he's forty three,
- 5:53and he doesn't look forty three. He looks way younger. Yeah, he
- 5:55looks great. But then Tim Allen was forty in the Santa Claus and he
- 5:58looks like shit. So what's that all about? I actually have an answer
- 6:01to this, and I'm so sorry if it ruins the oezing, the like
- 6:05whole vibe of this. People in that middle ground area have styles that we
- 6:12associate with people who are currently old. So while that style at the time
- 6:16was youthful, you currently have active examples of that style only on old people.
- 6:24Yeah, like old businessmen. Yeah, and so the like iconic features
- 6:29of youth at that time are now iconic features of age, and we don't
- 6:33have context for them as features of youth. Yeah, and so are subconscious
- 6:39when we're like making and sorting information is like old like like they're the I
- 6:44don't want to say red flags because like I'll hope to get old. Yes,
- 6:49well you are going to, yeah, like and so I don't want
- 6:53to call it like red flags. But it's the things that we like to
- 6:55go through a checklist of old. Yes, that hair, that particular style
- 7:00of jeans, those shoes, that's old, um. Whereas singing and dancing
- 7:06and moving about and wearing sort of nineteen fifties Hollywood style show tune clothes.
- 7:13That's useful. A lot of those styles were doing again so yeah yeah,
- 7:16so those things have like links with modern influencers subconsciously. Yeah. Whereas a
- 7:24big, ill fitting suit it just makes you think of disgraced former precedents.
- 7:28Yes, yes, and Channel five News and Channel five News oldo. I
- 7:30think that's a satire of that, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 7:33yeah, but I do actually have an answer for that. There's some thing
- 7:36about like skincare now being far better than it was in previous time, like
- 7:42being out in the sun. Well, that explains, That explains Chris Pratt
- 7:46definitely, yeah, but doesn't necessarily explain like Danny Kay and Bing Crosby because
- 7:50they wouldn't have had access to the Yeah, Jenna's line of face creams cream
- 7:59is such a number, it is, so there is just like a middle
- 8:03ground. I think that for a while maybe we knew the sun was bad
- 8:05for our skin, and then we just like forgot really conveniently and then remembered
- 8:11again that actually the sun makes you look quite leathery. Yep. And this
- 8:16segment by saying yes, Tim Allen, very leathery. Yes, could you
- 8:20fight a reindeer in hand to hand combat and win? No? Good,
- 8:24that's the correct answer. So my prediction for that, My prediction for that
- 8:28is that Jason will be the only person who says that he can. Okay,
- 8:35that feels right. Yeah, that absolutely feels right. Also, there
- 8:39is probably no animal you could have said that I would have said yes to.
- 8:43I'm trying to think of maybe any sects and things maybe, yeah,
- 8:48depending on how depending on how angry. Oh no, that're from Australia.
- 8:52Yeah, them's fucking big, but even like a small mammal like a squirrel
- 8:56or something you would be if it was coming at me, if it was
- 9:01life, or if I couldn't run away. Or that one with a gun
- 9:03from the trailers, Oh my god, he uses it with such skill and
- 9:07it's wild. Anyway, if Jason says that he can't, then I'll I
- 9:13owe you something. Think of something, I'll owe you it. You don't
- 9:18have to think of it right now on the podcast. But I wanted to
- 9:22say, you'll owe me a blowjob, but I don't know that's good.
- 9:24I owe you a blowjob? Yeah, yeah, we'll go with that one.
- 9:28Okay, So just before I leave you or you leave me. Wait,
- 9:33that sounds bad when it's uh, just before one of us leaves this
- 9:39room, That's what I mean. Just before one of us exits this room.
- 9:43Because I've got a few calls to make. Would you like to play
- 9:46a round of gate Leapers about White Christmas? Yeah? Please? Okay,
- 9:50here we go for White Christmas. I've gone with a classic of gate Leapers
- 9:54because White Christmas is a classic. So we're gonna play clips of the YouTube
- 10:01comments section round. Okay, but you're on your own this time, You've
- 10:05always got a teammate to deliberate with, not anymore getting in my way.
- 10:09Not for this, I'm practicing for twenty twenty three. How is that getting
- 10:16in my way? Yeah? There we go. Bring more of that energy
- 10:18and maybe practice saying like, oh, piss off Jason, piss off Jason.
- 10:28Okay, we'll work on it. We'll work on it. As always,
- 10:30I've changed the user names of the real YouTube comments left below these clips
- 10:33from White Christmas, but I've made these user names festive because it's Christmas.
- 10:39So this first comment from the first clip comes from user jingle Balls. Good.
- 10:45There we go. Amazing skills and control for not breaking character until the
- 10:50end. I have an idea, but I would like to hear a second
- 10:52Okay, I'd like to hear a second comment for two points. Not the
- 10:56points matter on this Christmas episode. I can tell you what my thought is,
- 11:00but then it would ruin the rest of it, so I have to
- 11:01keep it to myself. Okay, okay, Yeah, This next comment comes
- 11:05from us A die Hard is a Christmas A Christmas. It's a Christmas.
- 11:11Everyone knows it's a Christmas. It's a Christmas. Thanks Mario, totally ad
- 11:16lipped and later put in the movie totally hilarious. This ruins what I was
- 11:24thinking wouldn't be something that's ad lipped. Wait, I'm going to lock it
- 11:30in because I do think this might be Okay, you think it could be
- 11:31something that's totally hilarious. Yes, I think it is something that I found
- 11:35hilarious go on in my youth. I think this is when Bing Crosby and
- 11:41Danny Kay are pretending to be the sisters Bing Bing Ming Ing hitting hitting him
- 11:46with the hit that one hit a bit late, yeah, and then I
- 11:54was just like laughing at the fact that I laughed so hard and so late.
- 11:58But I think it's the thing of like I'm hitting hitting him in the
- 12:01stomach with this big fans. Oh, it's the it's the whole scene book
- 12:05specifically, that is the part where he breaks thing. You didn't need to
- 12:09hear the comments missile from missiletoe fetishist. I refuse to believe that Danny Kay
- 12:16is not having the time of his life. So this is the scene that
- 12:20I thought it was the first one. It's Christmas three points? Oh my
- 12:24god, thank you tell Jason I got three points. Okay, I'm trying
- 12:30to be Agro it's working. Okay, I've got one more scene for you.
- 12:33Okay. In this mini game, first comment comes from unreformed Scrooge.
- 12:39Fuck that guy. Well, let's let's see what they have to say.
- 12:43Say this video topical. One of the signs of a declining civilization is the
- 12:50inability to tell good stories and make uplifting art like this. We've devolved dramatically
- 12:56since the twenty first century. I'm to go for a second comments just so
- 13:01I can run away from Yeah this guy, we won't dwell on Scrooge at
- 13:05Christmas. Yeah, fuck him. This next one comes from sixty nine Christmas
- 13:11four twenty Oh. That sounds fine, about as Christmasy as it gets.
- 13:13Yeah, that's joy. Having watched White Christmas Brackets nineteen fifty four dozens and
- 13:20dozens and dozens of times over the decades, I see this sequence as the
- 13:24movies nexus. Bing Crosby's Bob Wallace commits to going to Vermont and the trajectory
- 13:30of the rest of this classic is set. Is this the snow scene?
- 13:37Snow? Oh, yes, you've specified I thought at first, you're like
- 13:41the scene where it's snowing. No, but where they are in the are
- 13:46staying up all night in the club car Yes? Yes, Well let's see
- 13:50if the final comment reveals exactly the correct answer from Charlie Brown his pants.
- 13:54How the lyricists managed to rhyme snow with snow is pure genius. So there
- 14:03we go. Yes, two points, lovely stuff. It is the snow
- 14:05song in the carriage. Yep, that's how it goes. I liked how
- 14:11those just such serious media analysis happening in the comments of this. It is
- 14:16the films nexus. It is the films Nexus. Okay, okay, Well
- 14:24did you have a good time? Did you enjoy this little quiz? Good?
- 14:28That's all. That's all that matters. I got both of them right.
- 14:30That probably. Hey, maybe that could be the gimmick next year for
- 14:33you. Like, so lose a gimmick, but you lean into it.
- 14:37Oh that would feel natural. That would feel quite natural. Yeah, just
- 14:43worst person at the Christmas quiz. But make it a joke. Oh,
- 14:46that would be quite fun. That would reclaim my childhood of playing checkers.
- 14:50Well, thank you for helping me out with this. I love you.
- 14:54Okay, I'm back in, husband Moude. Now I'm not in I'm not
- 14:56in games master mode. But also could you please leave because I've got some
- 15:00calls to make two other people. Yeah, I'm fucking out, dude.
- 15:01Okay, thank you, thank you, love you, love you too.
- 15:05H Hello, Chris, Oh hi, Hi, Hi? How are you?
- 15:16Oh hey, I'm I'm good. Who who's this? Very funny?
- 15:20Very funny, hilarious in a remember when we didn't know who was calling us?
- 15:28Oh yeah, I remember that, like twenty twenty five years ago.
- 15:31Okay, yeah, it's an old joke. Okay, I guess so,
- 15:35so marry Christmas. I'm just calling it. Say marry Christmas. We'll marry
- 15:39Christmas to you as well, sir. Thank you, thank you, And
- 15:41before you say anything, shut up. I do normal social calls like this
- 15:45all the time. This is regular me. Also, while I've got you,
- 15:48I want to ask you something. What's your favorite Christmas film? Uh?
- 15:52You know, there's there's so many good ones out there. We have
- 15:58the Christmas Princes one, two and three. Of course, we have the
- 16:02Princess Switched one in two, No, one, two in three, So
- 16:04many good ones. I could sit here and naming them all day, old
- 16:08Royal based I'm probably yeah, obviously, um, but I'm probably gonna say
- 16:14I have to say, my favorite of all time is going to be The
- 16:17Grincho Soul Christmas the early two thousands. Jim Carrey, Yeah, Grent Soul
- 16:23Christmas. Great choice. The movie all about that green in cell who lives
- 16:26up a mountain. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure,
- 16:33I know it's it's small nuanced than that for sure, but but it's fair.
- 16:37It's fair. No, it's a it's a good choice. It's a
- 16:38very good Christmas movie, one from our childhoods I believe. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:44he does, he does, now that I think about it. He
- 16:45does talk about hating women a lot, so I guess, yeah, it's
- 16:48totally fair to call him an in cell. So yeah, I didn't have
- 16:52I didn't have to leap too far. But yeah, it gives his reasons.
- 16:56We don't always find out why in cells are like that. That's true,
- 16:57that's true, and he stops being one, so exactly. Redemption story.
- 17:03It's all we need. It's really all most people are asking for is
- 17:07for them to just stop. Yeah, yeah, just stop doing it.
- 17:11And if you could give us a flashback that explains why you're behaving this way,
- 17:15that would be great, thank god, it would be fantastic. And
- 17:18then flashback to them chomping on a Santa Claus plate. So yes, yes,
- 17:25I'm just looking in my database of Christmas. Maybe he's here, so
- 17:29let me just find the Grinch still Christmas. Okay, got a whole database?
- 17:32Okay, Oh yeah, I've I've made a set of questions and a
- 17:36quiz for every single Christmas movie in existence. So thank you for choosing one
- 17:38that I had one for. Holy shit. Okay, My next question for
- 17:42you, based on how The Grinch Stole Christmas is, what's your favorite moments
- 17:47or scene from the film. Oh, I'd probably have to say when he
- 17:49sets up like the fake director scene with Max the Dog where he's like trying
- 17:56to coach him on his part of his role of being a reindeer. Yea,
- 18:03because that just makes me a giggle every time. And yeah, it's
- 18:07just two great actors playing off each other, Jim Carrey and some dog some
- 18:12just some dog who probably was in other movies at the time. That's usually
- 18:17how it goes, probably probably, Yeah, but those are my two favorites.
- 18:21So yeah, no, that's a that's a great pick. I I
- 18:23think I'm finding this with Christmas movies that the best moments are not necessarily like
- 18:27the wholesome Christmas moments. They're actually just the silly one offlines of bits that
- 18:33happen. Oh god, yeah, yeah, it's just it's the right answer.
- 18:40The dumb throwaways. It just they live with they live in my heart
- 18:45that I'm hoping to grow three sizes this year. Perfect a perfect reference.
- 18:49Thank you, big Jim Carrey fan. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 18:55I was. I was one of those kids from one of those nineties
- 18:59kids that was the same same I. We all had a face, we
- 19:02all had a fit. Hopefully we grew out of it. That's still up
- 19:07in the air for me. But yeah, I mean a Spincher, a
- 19:10demon Dummer, sign me up. The nineties goofy classics, and that's that's
- 19:17how I became the person I am today. You know, Yes, you
- 19:21are Jim Carrey. Sorry we should have said that up top. You are
- 19:22Jim Carrey. I am talking to Jim Carrey, right, Yes, that
- 19:26is very true. Yes, my name is Jim Carrie. And uh and
- 19:30I'm so happy to be here on kate Leapers. I'll clip that. Yeah,
- 19:34no, of course. And you can use my images and anything like
- 19:38that for free. You don't have to pay. Oh, thank give us
- 19:41to carry. Yeah, of course, no, definitely won't have any illegal
- 19:44problems for sure. Perfect Okay, Jim, moving on next question for you.
- 19:48Did you know that Cindy Lou who is now the lead vocalist of hard
- 19:52rock band The Pretty Reckless. I did. She is very intimidating with her
- 19:59very intense I make up. Yeah, yeah, I was like, wow,
- 20:03okay, you know gossip Girl can do that to a person. She
- 20:07was in gossip Girl. Taylor Momson went from I don't know, I don't
- 20:11know her whole thing, her soul, don't credits, but she basically went
- 20:15from the Grinch to gossip Girl to being being the front man of of a
- 20:22metal band. Yeah, that's the entertainment life cycle, I feel. Yeah,
- 20:26a little bit of everything. I respect it for sure, definitely definitely.
- 20:30Okay. Could you fight a reindeer in hand to hand combat and win?
- 20:34Uh No, but I'd certainly love to pet one. Let's say about
- 20:41ransaid, they would absolutely bust my ship though. Yeah you've seen the mantlers.
- 20:45No, yeah, that vicious, the biggest hell deadly weapons. Good
- 20:49thank you for answering that one. I literally just earlier today watched a video
- 20:55of a guy who was hunting get straight up gored by a deer. So
- 21:00it's it's pretty fresh in my mind, so I can easily say no,
- 21:03I can't. It is gonna be a card a quick no. If yeah,
- 21:10if it get gets any speed whatsoever, I'm fucking dead. Du listen
- 21:15to the hospital for a month. Just before you go. I have a
- 21:18quick round of gate leapers for you about the Grinch. If you're interesting,
- 21:22absolutely sign me up. I guess I'm already here, so you don't have
- 21:27to sign. Yes, thank you for pre signing up. Yeah. Ohbout
- 21:32you know, consent and all that stuff. Yeah, yes, especially this
- 21:34Christmas season. Yes, yes, consent at Christmas and all year round.
- 21:41I reckon coming to Netflix next year. Actually, there, there we go.
- 21:45That will be one of those those Netflix movies with starring I want to
- 21:51say, Oh, now, what's her name? Yep, it is Vanessa
- 21:56Hudgins. I'm trying to remember all of your American actresses who then went up
- 22:00to just be Christmas movie people. Oh she's She's in I think four different
- 22:06films in the Netflix Christmas cinematic universe, right as me and Jane have coined
- 22:12it, Yes, where she gets with a different white guy every time.
- 22:18Every time. No, wait, oh, the same white guy. There's
- 22:22two characters that aren't white. So oh, there we go. Look at
- 22:26look at her, go look at the Netflix Cinematic Christmas Universe. It's amazing.
- 22:30They weren't the main characters, but they were just Vanessa Hudgins playing minor
- 22:34characters who got with non white people. So you know, yet you get
- 22:38what you get or do you take what you can get? That's yeah,
- 22:42that's what I meant you get. Yeah. I think that's a pretty reckless
- 22:45on. So okay, okay, I've kind of screwed you over a little
- 22:52bit with this game that I've made in the I've chosen you as the quick
- 22:56fire around kind of style game, so might not have much to do with
- 23:00the film, but you do have as much time as you want to answer
- 23:04the question. It's not going to be quick fire style perfect. I'll still
- 23:08answer it as quickly as possible because I have a competitive bone in my body
- 23:14and beautiful, Now, we can all get out of here a little bit
- 23:17faster, I guess. So. My hand is starting to cramp holding this.
- 23:22So you know how every who down in Whoville really likes Christmas m And
- 23:27you know how almost every who down in Whoville has the same name structure,
- 23:30that is something something who. Yes, Well, I'm going to give you
- 23:34clues to other pop culture names that would go well with that structure and rhyme,
- 23:40and then ask you to tell me the answer with who on the end
- 23:41to make a brand new who. So, for example, if I said
- 23:47the yellow Bear who loves honey but hates pants, what would you say,
- 23:52Winnie pooh Who? Yeah, that'll do, WINNI the Poohoo Who? There
- 23:55we go forgot? That's all right, it's least important world. You know,
- 24:00there's not a ton of people who have in their name. So that's
- 24:03that is true. That is true. It's quite echoic of him. Really.
- 24:06Okay, Okay, I I think I got I think I got the
- 24:08hang of this. I think I could do it. Yeah, I believe
- 24:11in you. I've got seven for your overall. Let's let's shoot for at
- 24:14least five. Come on, it's Christmas, let's do it. Okay.
- 24:18Your first clue English actress known for her roles in Black Widow, Little Women
- 24:23and Midsummer Florence Pugh Who Florence pu Who? There we go? Oh?
- 24:27God, I love her, one of my favorite Who's next one? The
- 24:33Little Yellow Electric Mouse? Who is the mascot for Pokemon Pikachu? Who?
- 24:41Who? Here we go two for two? Oh god? Okay, next
- 24:45one. Let's I'll make it a little trickier now. A term occasionally used
- 24:49by fanboys to describe highly capable female protagonists. Mary Lou who. Oh I'm
- 24:57so sorry it's Mary Sue? Who may sue? Fuck? Well, it's
- 25:02it's answering quickly? Is what got you? Yeah? Totally is. Oh
- 25:06shit, I think there is an actual Mary Lou who in the gringe.
- 25:10Yep, you were using your favorite Christmas film and also felt under the Prussia
- 25:15the self pressia of answering very fast. You know what, I'm going to
- 25:18take that as a win for me because I've never claimed a character is a
- 25:22Mary Sue. So yeah, if anything, I'm glad that I got this
- 25:26one wrong. Yeah, you're a good die. I'd be devastated if I
- 25:29got the Florence pu weren't wrong. But you know this one. Yeah,
- 25:33not a big deal. Yeah, we'll move on. You can still get
- 25:36passing. Great, This is fine, Okay, next clue his money,
- 25:38don't jiggle, jiggle it folds. He'd like to see you wiggle wiggle full
- 25:42sure. Why am I blanking on his name? Oh my god, it's
- 25:48it's I'm through through who I'll give you it. What's his first name?
- 25:55I'm for It's Louis. It's Louis. But you can of it? God
- 26:00damn it. Why why'd you had to bring in a TikTok sound? How
- 26:04dare you just trying to you know? This is a roundup of the whole
- 26:08of twenty twenty two, and I think that was one of the more iconic
- 26:11moments. It was. It was for sure. Okay, we'll get a
- 26:15little bit harder even still. The director of Face Off and Mission Impossible Too,
- 26:21who pioneered the heroic bloodshed and gunfoo genres within Hong Kong cinema. Oh,
- 26:27I'm unsure on his first name. I know it's Woo. I know
- 26:32it's Woo. Who is it? John? John? Who it is?
- 26:33John? Who? Yes? It was The Mission Impossible Too. That's like,
- 26:41you know, how how the Great Stole Christmas? Mission Impossible Too?
- 26:45They're at similar eras, right, So, honestly, I probably spent the
- 26:48same amount of time watching both of those two specific films when I was a
- 26:51child, specific and they're films. They're not I'm not calling them movies there.
- 26:55Yeah, that's art cinema. They are high cinema. Un Cruise wasn't
- 27:00even using cables when he scaled that cliff. Okay, too deep into mission
- 27:06impossible too sorry yeah sorry, Well neither was the Grinch. Neither Jim Carrey
- 27:10when he was climbing that mountain. Yeah yeah, that was actually him squatting
- 27:15that that whole cart full of toys. Yep, so impressive. What a
- 27:19guy, What a stuntman you are? Um? Yes I am. Yeah.
- 27:26Killer quads. Okay, just real quick with this one. The sound
- 27:30effect you make with your mouth when you're cartoonishly pretending to fire a gun.
- 27:34Put you who, I'll take it. I was gonna see what you came
- 27:38up with. I've got pup you who down here? Okay. If that's
- 27:44what a gun sounds like to you, I'll take it. That's a point.
- 27:47It is. It's the sound I use when I was a kid.
- 27:49Putt. And finally, your final one. If you get this right,
- 27:56you'll get six out of seven, which is a very merry Christmas. A
- 28:00time lord with the potential for his hearts to grow three sizes. That'll be
- 28:06a doctor who who? A doctor who? Who? There we go,
- 28:11six out of seven. Well done, Chris, yrs and look, thank
- 28:15you for this, and thank you also for being such a wonderful guest this
- 28:18year on all the episodes you guessed on Man. I enjoyed every goddamn second
- 28:25that I have spent with you guys doing gately bus. Thank you so much
- 28:27for having me. You're the best, Chris, You're great friends. You're
- 28:32hot. Slice of sunshine on this cold winter night, or at least that's
- 28:33what I wrote last night. Wait. Sorry, my name's Jim Carrey.
- 28:38Oh yeah, sorry, Sorry, Thank you, Jim dude. Happy holidays,
- 28:42Jim, goodbye, Jim. Don't write me letters. I don't know.
- 28:52Hello Jim. Why? Hello there, Matt, Hello, how are
- 28:56you? I'm doing pretty good? How about yourself? I'm doing. I'm
- 29:00just calling to say Merry Christmas and to thank you for being a guest player
- 29:03so many times on gate leapers this year. Oh, Merry Christmas. It's
- 29:07a joy and a half. Oh, thank you, thank you. I'll
- 29:10ask what the half is, but I'll just skip it. We've want to
- 29:12got so much time. No, it's a ton of phrase. Got it
- 29:15now? Yep? So okay, Jen, I've got a question, Well,
- 29:21I've got you, yes, what is your favorite Christmas film? Oh?
- 29:26It's really hard for me to pick a favorite. I've got a lot
- 29:30of tradition around Christmas movies. They've always been a highlight of the holiday season
- 29:40for me. Growing up, we watched a lot of the like claymation slash
- 29:45animation movies. You know, my dad is a big fan of the year
- 29:49without a Santa Claus. We watched that a lot. We did the classics
- 29:56Santa Claus and Grinch and all of those types of things. And now as
- 30:00I've grown into adult, it's just watching every bad but also beautifully good Netflix
- 30:07movie. Um that has the same plot over and over again. Um,
- 30:11Christmas in the Smokies, Christmas in the Rockies, It's all the same.
- 30:15But Christmas in some mountains some point. Yeah, Christmas in the Mountains.
- 30:18Um. But if I had to pick a movie that kind of hearkens to
- 30:26the like childhood nostalgia, Um, but also just is kind of a bad
- 30:32movie. Um is to Grandmother's House We Go. It's a the debut debut
- 30:40film for Mary and Kate Nashley Olsen. Um. So it's one of their
- 30:45like younger days movies. Um. And it's just it's just pure gold and
- 30:51it gives me the warm fuzzies every time. Yeah. No, that's a
- 30:53that's a good answer in a deep cut. Definitely more. I mean,
- 30:56I don't think anyone who's been into Mary Ka and actually is being described as
- 31:00this, but definitely more hipster of a pig than other people have chosen.
- 31:03Just give me a second to look through my database here of all Christmas movies
- 31:07ever, so I can pull up the appropriate questions questions. Oh yes,
- 31:14sorry surprised. This is a mini gate Leapers. I'm gonna ask you some
- 31:18general chat questions you know, how it is like entertainment, and then give
- 31:22you a little quiz on the Markat and Ashley films. You really couldn't help
- 31:26yourself, could you. Nope, not at all. It's who I am
- 31:30as a person. I just figure lean into it. Yeah, and generally
- 31:34people are giving it Christmas, so I get time. That barely works because
- 31:40everyone who's on this episode is done gate Leapers all year around. Okay,
- 31:45so first question for you, I have not seen this film. What happens?
- 31:51Oh man? So classic A couple of young kids think that they overhear
- 31:57their mom mentioning that they're handfuls. Um. And you know when you're a
- 32:02single mom and you've got two kids and you're working at a diner. I
- 32:07think it's been a while since I've watched the movie. Um. They overhear
- 32:10that they're being handfuls. So they decide they're gonna go to their grandmother's house.
- 32:15Which is interesting because they go to their great grandmother's house. Oh wow,
- 32:19so like as kids not going it's yeah, interesting detail. But they
- 32:22break they break open their piggy banks with hammers and they decide they're gone.
- 32:28No, they decide they're gonna go to see grandma instead because they're handfuls for
- 32:32mom. They get into hijinks. Of course, they're like six and trying
- 32:37to use public transit and stuff. Instead, they hijack themselves onto a delivery
- 32:42truck um with hunky delivery truck guy and um, hunky driven delivery truck guy
- 32:50loses the kids. There's a robbery couple that steals the truck. The kids
- 32:53are in the back. It's full hijinks and then it turns into a hole.
- 32:58Can the mom and the hunky cow Boy delivery guy find the kids that
- 33:01were technically robbed by the robbers. It sounds like Home Alone on acid.
- 33:07Yeah, yeah, it's similar. It's got the same vibe for sure.
- 33:13Okay, well, you've described a few scenes that do you personally have like
- 33:15either a favorite scene or maybe a moment or even a line from the movie.
- 33:21So there is this like really cute ice skating scene. I think this
- 33:24is again pulling a memory bank from a long time ago, but if there
- 33:29was a quote or something that I bring up all the time. So when
- 33:34it's found out that they are on the delivery truck, the guy is like,
- 33:38oh shit, there's two children on my truck, brings them up to
- 33:43the front cab to sit with him, and they like put them in seatbelts
- 33:45up there, and he's like, I have to get you back to your
- 33:49mom. You know, the responsible adult thing when you find two kids that
- 33:52have run away from home and one of them has to go to the bathroom,
- 33:55which is like hyjunk. That's mentioned a lot prior to that scene of
- 33:59like her being like, but I gotta go to the bathroom. They set
- 34:01it up, Yep, they set up the joke and they're sitting in the
- 34:06cab of the delivery truck, and um, she mentions, hey, man,
- 34:08I gotta go potty, like you gotta figure this out. I gotta
- 34:13go, and she just starts saying hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry.
- 34:19And so it's this guy who doesn't have kids, who was just trying to
- 34:23do his job close to Christmas, which has to be bananas being you know,
- 34:28like a UPS driver or whatever, like knock off UPS driver, and
- 34:30this little girl's just yelling hurry at him to go to the bathroom. And
- 34:35so, um, do I use that with my husband when I need to
- 34:38go to the bathroom and we're out and I need him to hurry up so
- 34:44we can leave. Yeah, sort of. Yeah, he's a hunky delivery
- 34:47drivers, yes, and he also wants to be a cowboy y. Yes,
- 34:51that's a sub plot of the movie. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 34:53no, oh, just a fact about Chris. No that that's great.
- 34:58I don't think I think I've heard you use that not in context of going
- 35:02to the bathroom, but just when we needed to leave the house to go
- 35:05to an event or something. I feel like, yeah, it just really
- 35:08any usage of needing to hurry. It all come out and it was one
- 35:14of those things where even I was like where did I get that? And
- 35:16then it like dawned on me the scene and I was like, Wow,
- 35:21that was memory Bank quoting of a movie from just so long ago. Yeah.
- 35:27Yeah. What I'm finding with asking people that question, and I think
- 35:30it's the same for myself, is that it's never the wholesome moment in a
- 35:34Christmas movie that's people stand out in favor it. It's always the dumb throwaway
- 35:37lines that stay in your head for forever. Truly. I think it's like,
- 35:42as you mentioned, watching them every Christmas, it's watching things on repeat.
- 35:45They just stick in there. Yes, next question, where's Kate?
- 35:50Like I see Mary and I see Ashley, But where's Kate? I thought
- 35:53you think it'd be a series about triplets? Right, Well, when you
- 35:57have a double first name like Mary Kate does, Um, there's the sea,
- 36:04I mean technically there is. I think her name's Ashley Ashley Olson because
- 36:08like of Marvel fame. Now, so I guess that's the third sister.
- 36:12But she didn't. I don't think she existed yet. Oh that's true.
- 36:15There is a there is another Olson, isn't there There is another Olson?
- 36:17Who is currently film. Oh but maybe we'll change her name to Kate and
- 36:22then yeah, okay, very quickly, could you fight a reindeer in hand
- 36:29tanned combat and win? Depends on the circumstance, like is my dog in
- 36:35danger? Or did I just square up with this deer square squaring up in
- 36:38the forest? No dogs in danger? Oh? Then no, this thing's
- 36:43can collabor me. Okay, yes, that is the correct answer. Okay,
- 36:46And finally, Jen, before you go, it's me and you've already
- 36:49guessed this. I've got a quick round of gate leapers about Mary, Kate
- 36:52and Ashley. If you're interested, let's do this is some old compendium,
- 36:57backdoor mind closet stuff, but let's do it well. Fortunately for you,
- 37:01it's not just about what does it take me to Grandma's house? We go
- 37:07the longest freaking name. But because we'll never do a gate leap as about
- 37:10it, this is going to be all about the Mary, Kit and Ashley
- 37:14TV movie universe. So I'm going to see how well you remember them.
- 37:19I'm going to give you the title of a film and a brief plot synopsis.
- 37:22You've just got to tell me whether you think it's a real MKATVMU entry
- 37:29or if I made it up this morning when I should have been doing literally
- 37:31anything else with my life. Okay, okay, okay, here's your first
- 37:37one. Billboard Dad. Twin sisters try various strategies to get their widower artist
- 37:44plus sculptor father a girlfriend. That sounds super familiar. I'm going to go
- 37:50with real. It is real. Yeah, I think I remember that one
- 37:53after a great start. It's somewhere there in the background. There was probably
- 37:57a ups driver. There's a divorced dad. That's a theme always, okay.
- 38:04Next one, gone fishing. Twin sisters are forced on vacation with their
- 38:08divorced father, but a double booked cabin in the Pacific Northwest leads to love,
- 38:14laughs and lakes. I'm gonna go with the no on this one.
- 38:17Yeah, you've seen through it. This one is fake. They never went
- 38:22to the Pacific Northwest. They went lots of places, but not quite that.
- 38:24Yes, lots on the East coast. Next one, switching goals.
- 38:30Okay, yep, you didn't even need an inscription. That one's real.
- 38:34Now. It's a great, really bad soccer room. There were lots of
- 38:38them out around about that time of the night. They were doing work at
- 38:44the end of the nineties. They wanted soccer to be successful, didn't we
- 38:47all? It took ted Lasso to do it. Next one The Challenge.
- 38:53Twin sisters who live on opposite sides of the country with their divorced parents apply
- 38:58for the same Mexican reality game show in order to win college scholarships. That
- 39:04one is real. Yes, four for four, You just got two more
- 39:07left to get a complete set of answers. No pressure, No pressure.
- 39:12Fashion Week. Two competing design prodigies arrive in New York for their debut to
- 39:16the fashion world. The twist. They're twin sisters who haven't spoken in a
- 39:21year. That one's not real. That is correct, That one's not real.
- 39:25I thought I could trick you with their real life fashion stuff, but
- 39:29it hasn't worked. Okay. Final Mary Kate n Ashley TV Movie Universe Movie
- 39:36Universe Adventures in Appletown. Twin sisters witness a murder, but out to fear,
- 39:44decide not to tell anyone. They and their friend Ben, whose father
- 39:47has been wrongfully accused of the crime, go on a journey to find the
- 39:52real killer. Oh this one like sounds like one that exists, But I
- 39:58don't know if you did the thing of like mocking up from something that kind
- 40:01of exists. So I know that they've done their adventures with Mary, Kate
- 40:07and Ashley and it has like all the different themes. Hmm, you said
- 40:15Adventures in Apple, Adventures in Appletown, Appletown. I'm gonna go with no.
- 40:24Yeah, you've seen through it. And not only that, you've described
- 40:27exactly how I found that question as this is actually the plot of a Sprouse
- 40:30Brothers movie. Oh wow, So there you go named what Atown? Oh
- 40:38okay, I think it had an alternate title, but Adventures in Appletown was
- 40:43the American one. That's really funny. So there you go. Six out
- 40:46of six, six out of six, Merry Christmas. You really want for
- 40:51the like I need to stump her too, like none of the winning London
- 40:53and it takes two and no New York minute, too alpious, too olvious,
- 40:59those classics. Well, Jen, thank you so much for being such
- 41:02a wonderful guest player on Gately be Pas this year and for doing this.
- 41:07This has been a little slice of fun, you know what, And I'm
- 41:09going to just take this as my fifth one Merry Christmas to me yeah,
- 41:13okay, Yeah, Merry Christmas to you. Hello, Dred, Hey,
- 41:22Matt, Hey, how are you doing? Doing good? Doing good?
- 41:24It's it's a beautiful time of year. It is, it is, it's
- 41:29a lovely time. If you speaking of happy holidays. I hope you're having
- 41:32a good season. I am thank you very much. I feel odd being
- 41:36the only Jew in my neighborhood. So every house is beautifully lit up and
- 41:38mine is dark, and I feel very greenily when the reality is just they
- 41:43don't make good Honeke lights anymore, or ever did they never did. I
- 41:46was gonna ask if there was a golden age of Honeke lights. I mean,
- 41:50it is the festival of lights. You think we'd have a few,
- 41:52but no, no, we got our candles and the death. That's it.
- 41:54Give me some chocolate pennies and a dreadal and we're good, fantastic.
- 41:59I'm glad you do good, And maybe I have an ulterior motive for calling
- 42:02you today, because Drew, I can't I can't stop making quizzes. I
- 42:07can't stop doing it. I can't stop making trivia games. What's wrong with
- 42:09me? I mean, do you want me to answer that question live on
- 42:14air? Yeah? Well, it is Christmas. Let's be honest with each
- 42:16other. But now let's let's I mean, it's a problem that I will
- 42:20benefit from. Okay, well, thank you. I think you'll I think
- 42:22you'll enjoy this. I've got a question for you first, please, what's
- 42:27your favorite Christmas film? I feel like a lot of people doubt this one,
- 42:30but I feel like there's enough people who have that, like diver to
- 42:32Christmas movie, which I do agree with. So mine, yes, mine
- 42:37has always been Gremlins. Okay, give me one second, Drew, get
- 42:42Santa, the Grinch, Gremlins, Here we go, Here we go.
- 42:45Okay, Gremlins, one of those non Christmas ee movies said at Christmas time.
- 42:50I feel like we need more of those. See I had that pre
- 42:52written and you just like said it with the thing, So like ignore what
- 42:55I just said there and now let's have the actual conversation that would be had.
- 43:00Yeah. I think there should be more Christmas movies that are just set
- 43:02at Christmas because ten percent of the calendar year happens when there's Christmas lights everywhere.
- 43:08Yeah. So the fact that there aren't more movies that are just like
- 43:12horrors or sci fi or whatever, where it just so happens to be Christmas
- 43:15is wild to me. Yeah, I feel like we were. I was
- 43:17going through a list of like recently of like Christmas Eve movies that aren't Christmas,
- 43:22and I feel like Home Alone is another good example of like, it's
- 43:24clearly a Christmas film, but it's not about Christmas. It just happens to
- 43:28me at Christmas. And like the setup device is the family going on a
- 43:31Christmas vacation that Leaven behind on, but they could have been taken a summer
- 43:36vacation. It could basically been like yeah, yeah, like, in fact,
- 43:38the second movie is not a Christmas movie because they take I think it
- 43:42is a summer vacation. And Donald Trump's there. Unfortunately I've never seen Home
- 43:46Alone too that that's your only homework for that movie. I mean, honestly,
- 43:52most memorable scene. It doesn't hold up as much as the first one
- 43:53does. Yeah, but definitely more than the other ones. I was gonna
- 43:58say, yeah, definitely more than the seven of Them Alone movie. Actually,
- 44:00ridiculous random fun factum the most recent really bad Disney Plus version they made
- 44:08with Ellie Kember. Yes, it was actually filmed right near my house,
- 44:13so there was a good period of time where like my favorite restaurant was right
- 44:15next to a church, and it was like the sign had been changed to
- 44:19be like from whatever town it was being set in the US, and like
- 44:22all the street signs were Christmas e even though it was like still like July.
- 44:28We ever attempted to sneak onto the set and lay some traps if your
- 44:30own, to kind of add to the chaos, it'd be amazing. Just
- 44:34imagine the set being like you just dodging some trapping, Like we didn't rehearse
- 44:37this one, and it's like we didn't plant this one in this old creepy
- 44:44church. But it's the best take we've gone. It's in the film,
- 44:47just in the credits, mysterious Prankster. Yeah, panksy pranks the punt was
- 44:53there somewhere, Yeah, yeahs it works. So do you speaking of Gremlin's
- 45:00even though we definitely talk to more about home alone, just now, do
- 45:02you have like a favorite moment or scene from from Gremlins. There is a
- 45:07moment in the film where one of the I think he's like kind of the
- 45:09town drunk character who's always kind of complaint. He's like weirdly racist. It
- 45:15keeps complaining how like, oh, machines are breaking down because they were made
- 45:17by like people from other cultures and I will not make example here. And
- 45:22then finally his card does break down and like one of the like gremlins jumps
- 45:27out at him and he starts blaming like, oh, those insert ethnicities here,
- 45:30right, and like he's just it's it's kind of that really funny like
- 45:34getting has come up in this moment of like always blaming other ethnicities for like
- 45:37America's problems, and then the problem is just like a gremlin literally in his
- 45:40engine. Yes, yeah, it's just for some reason always tickled me.
- 45:45Right, it's just taking like prejudice to its ridiculous and degree precisely. Yeah,
- 45:52And I must say I think just the gizmo in the toy store like
- 45:53strapping up with his like bandolier of pencils. It's just it's iconic and adorable,
- 45:59very icon very adorable. I've got another question for you. Look a
- 46:02look at the How could this small talk is going? I didn't think I'd
- 46:05be able to do this chat show a kind of thing. If you could
- 46:08pick anything in the world to multiply the way gremlins do, what would it
- 46:13be oh man ah, that is good. But I feel like I feel
- 46:17like just desserts. Oh that's a good answer. Like you know, you
- 46:21ever have that moment too, especially you're like an a party or something and
- 46:22like that one dessert goes like way too quick. Yep, just be like,
- 46:25oh, splash some water on this cheesecake and there's seventeen more cheesecakes.
- 46:30Yep, that that works perfectly. But would the cheesecakes then be evil?
- 46:36Look, look, cheesecakes are always evil. They're always out to get us.
- 46:38Oh my god, they are such a temptation. No, I think
- 46:43I think for the sake of this will say it. I think the question
- 46:45set it up like multiply like Gremlins. Yea, so we'll say not evil
- 46:49o the like Gremlins maybe, well the mob Wire like they're they're they're like
- 46:52not evil until they actually like eat after midnight. They're just kind of like
- 46:58malicious and troublesome. So like it would be cheesecake, but it would be
- 47:01like really good at falling off your fork and hitting your shirt. Yes,
- 47:05yeah, just a little cheeky, that's all it is. Chee cheesecake.
- 47:09And one final question, just before we get to a to a game.
- 47:13Could you fight a reindeer in hand to hand combat and win? I feel
- 47:17a lot of forest animals I could have, but a reindeer. I don't
- 47:20know. I've seen one of those things up close. No, that thing
- 47:22would knock me the heck out good. That's the correct answer. So okay,
- 47:27Drew, I have a quick quick round of gate Leapers for you if
- 47:30you're interested all about the Gremlins. I mean, I answer the questions in
- 47:34my car as I'm listening to the show, So why I'll do it on
- 47:36air for once, feel less crazy? Hell? Yes, hell, yes,
- 47:39you answer on quite a lot. You're a very good guest. We
- 47:43love thank you. I love being on the show. I will admit I
- 47:45camember what episode I last listened to? But your quick fire around had me
- 47:49like like bouncing up and down in my car at a red light, like
- 47:52shouting answers that you're a quick fire around kill me. Thanks man. They're
- 47:57the most fun to write. For sure. If I could do a full
- 47:59thing of quick fire rounds, it would well, it'd be like doing cocaine
- 48:01for ninety minutes. So when you eventually do the Wolf of All Street episode,
- 48:08yes, yes, we'll get Yeah, we'll get to it. I
- 48:10can't have had a connection there, Okay, Drew, this is going to
- 48:15be a very classic set of gate Leaper's nonsense. According to the official Gremlins
- 48:20fandom wiki, there are over twenty named Gremlins within the Gremlins cannon. So
- 48:24I've got a list here. You've just got to tell me if they are
- 48:28a canonical Gremlin or if I made them up about fifteen minutes ago. Yeah,
- 48:34go for it. I'm down. Let's see how many I can remember.
- 48:37Okay, here we go. So your first gremlin name is Mohawk.
- 48:42I think you made that one up because you're referring to Stripe. Who's the
- 48:44one with the mohawk. Oh, I've got you at the first hurdle.
- 48:47No, is there actually one named Mohawk? Yeah, but it's in the
- 48:51second Gremlin's film. I've kind of damn, I figured the one mostly not
- 48:54Christmas. E that's I feel like the majority of the Nadoles would be from
- 48:59that one. But I figure you were going right for like the easy cheap
- 49:00shot there. Damn, I replied myself. It's Christmas. People are people
- 49:07are too kind to each other at Christmas. I find so I'm here to
- 49:10be the little evil one. What's it? What's he called the Gruffala?
- 49:15No, that's the Grinch. That's it. I get in my gr Monsters
- 49:20mixed up, which is embarrassing in a Gremlins episode. Um okay, next
- 49:24name Haskins. I can't imagine which one it is, so I'm going to
- 49:29say you made that one up. No, that one's real. So that's
- 49:34one that died, the one that dies in the microwave. I did not
- 49:37know that one had a name, apparently according to the official Gremlins fandom wiki.
- 49:42And let me tell you, the people who manage that page are very
- 49:45strict and do not let you edit it. Wow, okay, I'll be
- 49:47rewatching the movie just to find that name. Now I'm treating what happens credits
- 49:52like he isn't a lab but I mean the scientists may have named it,
- 49:55so like I guess it's yeah, it's there again. The fight is with
- 50:00the people of Wikipedia, not me, well them after the show. Next
- 50:05one, Chomper. I mean, I feel like I've said no to so
- 50:07many and Chomper just seems this is an obvious one. Am I gonna go
- 50:10zero for three and say I think that's a real one. You're saying it's
- 50:14real. It's not. It's fake. I'm really doing well this Christmas.
- 50:20I've caught you in a Christmas trap. It's look this formal names left.
- 50:27You can still get you can still win this. You can still beat me,
- 50:30you can still get the majority. You can go in the hell of
- 50:31a streak. Just reset yourself, recent to yourself and think of Makway ready,
- 50:37Christine, Yes, it's the one that has boobs for some reason in
- 50:40the second movie, there we go. Yes, that's exactly right. First
- 50:45one. If the street got the one that has boobs for some reason.
- 50:49Let's not read into that one, please, let's continue Hatchet. I feel
- 50:53like there's one that uses a hatchet, and like I would not be shocked
- 50:57if he's just called Hatchet in the credits. So I'm gonna go with ye.
- 51:00Yes, I'm sorry, Drew, that one's faked. I did.
- 51:05I looked at the unnamed ones and what they did and then just gave gave
- 51:07it. But I'm basically just dicking around with you now, Drew. I'm
- 51:13so sorry. But that's like exactly perfect logic on that one though. Okay,
- 51:16your penultimate gremlin snapshot. Uh, it sounds like a weird camera pun
- 51:22and I know it's in a news station, So I'm gonna go with,
- 51:25yes, yes, it's exactly that. It's the journalist one with the camera
- 51:30that kills the the ego one. Yes, a freaking nutjobs movie, but
- 51:36it's also so good. I know, and I know I've I've pulled for
- 51:39the entire Gremlin's Law because this might surprise you, Drew, but we're probably
- 51:43never going to do a full Gremlin's gately pase you know what I understand.
- 51:49But this is it, and this is the final mark. Why here it
- 51:52is Petempkin like made even Tepkin like, Yeah that spelt the same. I'm
- 52:07really like in meta gaming here of like would you do that just for how
- 52:09weird it is? But then also like I wouldn't put it past them for
- 52:14some silly reason to have named one that. So I'm gonna go with yeah,
- 52:15why not? Are you going with? Yeah? Yeah, it's not
- 52:19I made this one up. It's a battleship or a mandy or an old
- 52:22film or something. Oh god, oh heerves it. You're you're a very
- 52:31entertaining player, and you very much have been throughout all the episodes this year.
- 52:36I'm so glad we could connect with you and the Carrying Away with podcast,
- 52:38But I'm afraid that right now this Christmas you got two out of seven
- 52:44just means I gotta go rewatch Gremlins and Gremlins two. Wife's gonna be happy
- 52:46with that one. I'll leave you to that. True. Merry Christmas,
- 52:51man, Merry Christmas and happy holidays you and all the gate Leapers. Hello,
- 53:00Jason, Hello, Matt. Wait, how's it going man? It's
- 53:04going good. How are you? I'm doing all right? You know,
- 53:07it's almost Christmas time? It is. It is a merry Christmas to you,
- 53:12Mary, Happy Christmas as the British say. Yes, yes, we
- 53:15sometimes say Mary. We sometimes stay happy, but I'll lean into it,
- 53:19happy everything, whatever you celebrate. I'm just calling you because that's what I
- 53:23do. I call people out with blue randomly and yeah, make social greetings.
- 53:29I don't really yes, that's the I wouldn't be more weirded out by
- 53:30this, but we do call each other sometimes, so yeah sometimes actually,
- 53:35yeah. Of all the people I think it's like, you and Order are
- 53:37the people who I could call and probably wouldn't think I was dying. Yes,
- 53:43whereas if I called, if I called anyone else, including my family,
- 53:47they'd be like, what's wrong? Where we are? Where your arms?
- 53:51What's happened? Right? Yeah, because you guys have scheduled calls as
- 53:53well. The time difference. Yet, so all that, all that and
- 53:58I do I just like order um, okay, Jason, while I've got
- 54:01you here, right team captain, because it's it's been a fantastic Yeah.
- 54:07I've gone to the quiz for you. But first I need to ask you
- 54:09a question. Okay, what I'm that Walmart right now? Oh, you're
- 54:14a Walmart right now? This is excellent, This is good, This is
- 54:15good stuff that explains the echoe echoe sounds. Yeah, yes, okay,
- 54:22I'll try and make this quick. Then, okay, what is your favorite
- 54:25Christmas film? There's a lot of them, there's a lot of them.
- 54:29Yeah, I think the top Christmas film I would say for me is Santa
- 54:34Claus. Oh the Santa c Yeah, the Santa clause yes, yes,
- 54:38clause as in the contract the contract. Yes, Santa Claus the person.
- 54:44But then Santa clause the contract as said in the movie. Yes, yes,
- 54:46great film, great film, great word play. You know, there's
- 54:50a lot word play in there arose such a clatter company. Yeah, yeah,
- 54:54that is great. That is great. It's a it's a good script.
- 54:57I think, like out of all films. Ever, maybe I think
- 55:00it was a big bee. It might be my favorite line of any day.
- 55:06Really did like that. Yeah, it's a good line that all scene
- 55:08is fantastic. Yes, yes, it's I mean, speaking of do you
- 55:12have a favorite scene or moment from the Santa Claus? Oh? I think
- 55:15it changes every time I rewatch it. Because last year it was that scene
- 55:20because I didn't realize how horrific the fast shaming and it was and it's so
- 55:24funny. Um, usually fashaving is not funny. I'm gonna I'm gonna allow
- 55:30that one this year, is it? Do you think it's sorry? Do
- 55:32you think it's unique because it's he is Santa Claus, like the guy who
- 55:37is the jolliest and happiest person with being fat? Ever, Yeah, I
- 55:40think that could be. I think it's the suddenness of the change as well,
- 55:45and then the fact that he comes in like the tightest gray sweats he
- 55:49can to before meeting. Yeah, he's a pretty unhinged guy too. He's
- 55:52just eating the most amount of sugar and saying the weirdest you know, out
- 55:57of pocket ship that you can in that setting is I played a joke.
- 56:01I say, I played a joke. I just did a bit on Ultra
- 56:05last night where Wall Double Gray Sweats put a pillow up my stomach and started
- 56:09shoveling cookies into myth as you do in marriage. I would know, Yeah,
- 56:16that's what That's what happens. That's what we do every night. That's
- 56:20a ritual for you guys. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's that's a
- 56:22great scene. This year, the scene that really got me was he's he's
- 56:28really Santa clausing it up, yes, you know, public area with his
- 56:31children, and he just sits on a bench trying to mind his own business,
- 56:35trying to be you know, non yeah, nonchalant about this pretty aloof
- 56:38and this one girl just just eyes him down, just keys in him,
- 56:44just keys him in. And there's like seventeen kids the next to the next
- 56:47scene. And I think that's funny too. It just changes. It's a
- 56:50great movie with lots to love about it. Yeah, no, it's it's
- 56:54fantastic. That's that is a good scene where I live. In that scene,
- 56:58there's like an elf queuing up and then just a kid from the soccer
- 57:01game has left the soccer game to quee up. It's it's good stuff.
- 57:05Yeah, it took me this year to realize that there was hidden elves and
- 57:07you guys told me that. So that's very perceptive. Well, no,
- 57:12I think you are quite perceptive. Don't put yourself down back that. I
- 57:15think you're quite perceptive, just not about elves in nineties Tim Allen movies.
- 57:19Yeah, so I got I've gotten other question for you about the Santa Claus
- 57:27if you did it? Would you if I killed Santa Claus? There we
- 57:34go. You just said you just said you were intuitive. There you go.
- 57:37Yes, you know, like I had to think a moment about what
- 57:42the question was and then would I And honestly, I think, in my
- 57:45heart of hearts, I absolutely would jump at that idea. Yeah, right,
- 57:50I think what you guys, people who are close to me know about
- 57:53me and maybe the listeners as well as I'm just a big kid, and
- 57:58more specifically, like I love Christmas and I do love joy on children's faces.
- 58:04Like we're not gonna get Michael Jackson here, Like it's not a Neverland
- 58:07situation, but like I am gonna like volunteer actually two days from now at
- 58:13the time of recording, to give gifts away. Oh nice kids in our
- 58:16city. So in a way, you already killed Santa Claus. And you
- 58:21ask what I commit? Murder or everlasting selfish enjoyment? Yes? Good,
- 58:28okay, good, good, That is the correct answer to that question.
- 58:30I reckon. Yeah, also Asian Santa Claus. First, Asian Santa Claus.
- 58:32I'm jumping you know what I represent Obama. Yeah, it's better than
- 58:37Obama. It is it's Santa Claus is better than the president. Everyone knows
- 58:40that. Okay, next question, could you fight a reindeer in hand to
- 58:45hand compact? I'm so sorry if the audio like goes back laugh there,
- 58:52But that's that's an inside joke because I'm very obsessed with what I could realistic
- 59:00take out. Here's the thing. Reindeer, domesticated, rink cariboo. They
- 59:02already have a disadvantage. They're domesticated. They've simped they've simped out, and
- 59:07that's a big disadvantage. Two. Good point. I did find this out.
- 59:12I found this out too, just as a fun fact because our friend
- 59:15Jen, who has been on the podcast before, she made probably about fifteen
- 59:19minutes ago, she made like a Christmas D and D situation she has for
- 59:24reindeer. Minis. I got anal about it, and I looked up the
- 59:29scaling of reindeers vertically stand only at four and a half feet. Okay,
- 59:34And the last part of that, which will really influence my answer here is
- 59:40the antlers, honor, caribou and reindeer are not pointing. We have white
- 59:45tailed deer in the fucking city that we live in, like they just comment
- 59:50sometimes yeah, And I've seen bucks like yeah they fight, Yeah, they
- 1:00:00have dick contests where they poke each other and stuff like that, and that
- 1:00:04looks vicious, whereas the reindeer this what what are you gonna push me?
- 1:00:08Or you're just a fancy coat? You know? Yeah, I could absolutely
- 1:00:15kill a reindeer with my bear fucking claws. All right, there we go.
- 1:00:19That's the answer. That's that's all we needed to hear. And then
- 1:00:22would I yes, yes, question The question was good. It wasn't what,
- 1:00:29oh I kill Santa then all his reindeer? Sure, oh yeah,
- 1:00:35just a certain commence, you know, Rudolph's knows won't be the only thing
- 1:00:38that's right about that, Okay, very good you. That was the correct
- 1:00:49answer for you. By the way, Jason, that's that's you. Do
- 1:00:51you believe I'll ask you a question, do you believe I could kill reindeer
- 1:00:54with my bare hands? No? I love you. I think you're very
- 1:01:00talented in so many ways. You are strong, just not enough to fight
- 1:01:07a heavy, heavy beast just charging. Um. I've asked every single person
- 1:01:13that question. Yea, every single person said no, fucking stupid. Do
- 1:01:21you have any comment to say to everyone who said no, Believe in yourself.
- 1:01:27Believe in yourself. It can happen. Yeah, it's Christmas, you
- 1:01:34have to. It's the American way. Yeah, No, it was the
- 1:01:39British another good film. Oh, actually, speaking of that, because we
- 1:01:45had we had Jen, we had Chris, we had Audra, and we
- 1:01:47had Drew and they all said that they could not fight a reindeer. I
- 1:01:52also spoke to Ben of Exploration. Unfortunately we lost the audio for that,
- 1:01:57so it won't won't be included in this episode. His film was Muppet Christmas
- 1:02:00Carol. We had a whole good bit about recasting die Hard with with the
- 1:02:05Muppets so well. But by the way, he also said he couldn't fight
- 1:02:09a D. He also immediately said no, from what I know about it
- 1:02:15as well, he could come on, believe in yourself, believe in your
- 1:02:20I like that. I'm the old arrogant enough to think that it's so on
- 1:02:27brand. I love it, it's fantastic. Give it to me, guys.
- 1:02:34It's Christmas as it is it is. Okay, Look, before you
- 1:02:37go, Jason, I've got a quick round of gate leapers for you about
- 1:02:42the Santa claus On brand my cucumbers. Now, lovely take that as not
- 1:02:50a euphemism, the Christmas cucumber. Okay. So this is going to be
- 1:02:57a round of IMDb trivia, which today stands for icy Man deathblow because he
- 1:03:04killed Santa and Santa is the icy Man. So I've got three questions for
- 1:03:08you, each with three fun fact style bits of trivia. You've just got
- 1:03:13to tell me which one is true and which ones were made up by our
- 1:03:15writing staff of twelve don't tell anyone, okay. So yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:22sure, we'll make it. We'll make it kind of Christmas Eve. We'll
- 1:03:24say it's twelve apostles, the full writing team. Okay, So your first
- 1:03:29question, The role of Scott Calvin was originally written for a different early nineties
- 1:03:34funny man before they declined. But who declined and why was it? A
- 1:03:40Bill Murray who stated he felt it didn't match his style of humor. B
- 1:03:46Robin Williams who stated that after doing Missus Doubtfire in nineteen ninety three, he
- 1:03:52didn't want to be branded as the desperate divorce dad of Hollywood. Or see
- 1:03:58Steve Martin who simply he stated he wasn't going to do that fucking shit.
- 1:04:03Now when you say that guy who said it wasn't his brand of comedy,
- 1:04:10yeah, Bill, Bill Murray, Bill Murray, it is his brand of
- 1:04:13comedy, though, isn't it? Because yeah, because in the Santa clause,
- 1:04:17he's very sarcastic. He's always going to have the last word in.
- 1:04:21He's just a dick, um and we and it is funny, but he's
- 1:04:26a dick. And that's literally Bill Murray. Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, yea,
- 1:04:32space Jam. There we go, the three, all three of Bill
- 1:04:38Murray's heads. Yea. And So if I could see Bill Murray being the
- 1:04:43Santa clause, he's wrong, if that's true. Now that being said,
- 1:04:47I could also see Robin Williams just a climbing I mean he had he had
- 1:04:50a sour relationship with Disney, and I could see him not being yeah,
- 1:04:55because he I could see him not being wanting, not wanting to be typecasted,
- 1:05:00because I think he started really doing serious roles or more serious roles during
- 1:05:04that time as well. So I'm gonna say Robin Williams going with Robin Williams,
- 1:05:09not even considering Steve Martin. Oh out, man, I'm sorry.
- 1:05:15It's Bill Murray. Oh yeah, he was wrong. And your analysis was
- 1:05:21good though that it does feel like a Bill Murray fleck because it was written
- 1:05:26for him. Oh of course, there you go. So you got by
- 1:05:31the way, there's a lot of cats in these walts, you know,
- 1:05:34yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh what you're doing in the cat aisle?
- 1:05:39Get out of that. I gotta get my cats something for Christmas, you
- 1:05:43know, another one of it? Get get another cat? O lovely,
- 1:05:50lovely reference to also nineties culture, just like this movie. Next question.
- 1:05:56In older versions of the film, Tim Allen improvised a line that got Disney
- 1:06:01into hot water that has since been cut from DVD and Disney Plus versions.
- 1:06:08What was that line? Was it? A? He sarcastically told the waitress
- 1:06:13at Denny's that he wouldn't mind stuffing her turkey, leading to several hundred complaints
- 1:06:17from parents. During the theatrical release, b after drinking the soy milk,
- 1:06:24he commented, what is this politically correct juice from the soybean lobby in Washington,
- 1:06:30DC? Or is it c He sarcastically read the phone number one eight
- 1:06:36hundred spank me when speaking to his ex wife, and during the film's release,
- 1:06:41a woman from Ohio called the supposedly fictional number for her curious grandchildren,
- 1:06:45and it turned out to be a very real phone sex line. Of course
- 1:06:49it would be why would you? There's something I could see Tim Alan saying
- 1:06:57the first one stuff my turkey. I could see that. I love the
- 1:07:00details in your last comment though, so rich. So there's such a narrative
- 1:07:05there, you know, Yeah, yeah, a lot of stuff going on.
- 1:07:09Yeah, and so I just for the fun of it, I think
- 1:07:12it's the last one, And for the fun of it, it is.
- 1:07:15Yeah, Oh my god, are you It's in the It's in the VHS
- 1:07:21version of it, and apparently it's still in the versions if you buy it
- 1:07:27to rent, like on Amazon, but on Disney Plus and streaming it's not,
- 1:07:31of course, so of course more Disney censorship, you know what I
- 1:07:34mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's out of control, silly little
- 1:07:39mouse. Okay, your final question. This is a mini Gately Puss of
- 1:07:43just three questions. I'm currently kicking the shit out of the waltmart Santa Claus
- 1:07:46right now. Yeah, yeah, Darry asked me for charity. Actually,
- 1:07:50can you can you pick me up some mince pies while you're there? Okay,
- 1:07:56never mind, that's not one of the things that's made it over here.
- 1:07:58Never mind. Okay, your final question, your pie? What does
- 1:08:03that mean? Your final question? And this is you know it's out with
- 1:08:10race. We'll say if you get this right, you win two out of
- 1:08:13three. Comment. The reindeer makes grunting sounds throughout this movie, not like
- 1:08:17in sequels when he's all like, man, that's I showed you got videos
- 1:08:25recently. Yeah, it does, it does? You could just what I'll
- 1:08:34do is I'll just release this with just those making those noises, the secret
- 1:08:39version of this, like when SpongeBob and Patrick are just doing the okay,
- 1:08:47come at The reindeer makes grunting sounds throughout this movie. But where was the
- 1:08:51original comment grunt noise sampled from was It A the nineteen ninety three video game
- 1:09:00Doom. Was It B? Grunts made by Tim Allan himself, sampled from
- 1:09:06times he used heavy tools in home improvement. Yes, wait, hold on
- 1:09:15the sounds of polar bears from Toronto Zoo where they filmed scenes for this movie.
- 1:09:20Oh but just for the fun, I do like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:30we love a bit at all time. Yeah, so, which just
- 1:09:33sounds like masturbation, really, doesn't it. So for that, let's say
- 1:09:39it's are you going with the Tim Allen grunts? Yeah? Yeah, double
- 1:09:43credit? You know, yeah, he does that in the second film,
- 1:09:46so you knows how to get his money. I'm so sorry you've not won
