- 0:00And here's kind assistant coach Luke Murray. Luke, you had the scout for
- 0:04this game. You're the one that told the players what to expect, how
- 0:06to play perdue. Now, in retrospect, how did it work out?
- 0:10It went exactly to plan, it really did. You know, we felt
- 0:14like coming into the game, you know, we really wanted to try to
- 0:16make everything as difficult as we could on Edie, But at the same time,
- 0:20we were okay with the idea of him getting twenty five or twenty eight
- 0:23points. You know, their offensive efficiency really doesn't fluctuate much based on his
- 0:28production. He's always good, but even when he's great, it's pretty much
- 0:31the same. Where they really become dangerous is when the three point line factors
- 0:35in. So we really sold out to defend the three and take away guys
- 0:39like Lawyer and Smith and Jones. And that's exacinitely what happened. In a
- 0:43funny kind of way, was that eight for eleven three point shooting by Alabama
- 0:46in the first half on Saturday A factor here because in the second half and
- 0:50tonight's first two halves you played much better three point defense. I don't know,
- 0:56you know, it's different, you know, Alabama is a team that
- 0:58takes, you know, a really high number of threes game. Yeah,
- 1:02I mean, that's that's really who they are systematically. Even in that game,
- 1:04you know, they were eight of eleven, but they're averaging well over
- 1:07thirty threes per game. I think for the game, they shot twenty two
- 1:10threes, So even though their percentage was high, the volume came way down,
- 1:14you know, So that was key for us this game. They're a
- 1:15little bit different because obviously they throw the ball inside the edy almost every time
- 1:19down, but they were the number two three point shooting team in the country
- 1:22coming into the game percentage wise, and those guys are dangerous players when a
- 1:26lot of times they get their threes off at double teams. So we wanted
- 1:29to play one on one in the post, especially when Donovan was in there
- 1:32and worked out beautifully. You didn't double them very much, No, not
- 1:34much at all. I mean we did when Samson was in the game,
- 1:37just from a physicality standpoint, we felt that was necessary. We had cam
- 1:41doubling off Camden Heyden and returning to his own guy, which I thought worked
- 1:44well. But yeah, we felt like Donovan playing one on one on the
- 1:47post, staying out of foul trouble and guarding the three was the kid.
- 1:49You've been a balanced team all year, five players averaging double figures, and
- 1:53you know you showed that balance again tonight and it was basically zd maybe Smith
- 1:57that was it was your balance, A big difference in this game, I
- 1:59think. So. I mean, he's such a tremendous player, Edie.
- 2:01You know, he's the National Player of the Year back to back for a
- 2:04reason. But again, we pride ourselves on our you know, our collective,
- 2:07you know, and having five guys in double figures and having great contributions
- 2:12off the bench from guys like Dara and Samson and Stewart, and so I
- 2:15think that that's been our strength all year long. You know the fact that
- 2:17any night, you know, somebody steps up. Luke. I won't ask
- 2:21you about the first four UKOND champions, but you've been on the staff for
- 2:24the last two, twenty three and twenty four. Which one's the best?
- 2:30As much as I loved last year's team and I never thought anything would top
- 2:31it. I said it to the guys last night, you know, to
- 2:35in life, you very rarely win everything. You know, there's always something
- 2:39that you could have won another stage that you could have gotten to in life
- 2:43or in work. These guys the Empire Classic, the biggest regular season in
- 2:46the Big East Conference tournament, the East Regional, the final four of the
- 2:50National Championship. If there was a title to win, they won it.
- 2:53So to me, that's hard to beat. Luke. I admire the scouting
- 2:57work that you and Kamani have done. You're a big part of what just
- 3:00happened. Congratulations my friend. Thanks. That's UCON assistant coach Luke Murray.
