- 0:05Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger star had been a superstar. He's a star.
- 0:10Speaker 1: What are you hearing about not just his market, but
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Yankees' willingness to maybe change how they go at
- 0:19Speaker 1: certain free agents.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, as far as Bellinger goes, the Yankees to me,
- 0:25Speaker 2: have been by far and away the best option for Bellinger.
- 0:28Speaker 2: They know exactly what he is. He thrived in that laup.
- 0:31Speaker 2: He loved playing in New York, and he's played in
- 0:35Speaker 2: New York, Chicago and LA and he's thrived in all
- 0:38Speaker 2: three cities. And you have him in your lineup along
- 0:41Speaker 2: with Aaron Judge. That gives you a really strong foundation
- 0:45Speaker 2: to build around and you. I mean, obviously if they
- 0:48Speaker 2: signed Bellinger, they'd have to continue to do more. But
- 0:50Speaker 2: Bellinger is the most important piece of their offseason. So
- 0:53Speaker 2: if they can get him, that would be huge for them.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I do think that will end up getting done at
- 1:01Speaker 2: some point. We're not at that point quite yet. We've
- 1:03Speaker 2: seen the reports about a five year offer for about
- 1:05Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty five million that has not gotten done.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Whether it's adding years or adding more money to that
- 1:11Speaker 2: five year offer, I expect Bellinger to end up being
- 1:16Speaker 2: back with the Yankees. It's just taking a lot longer
- 1:18Speaker 2: that I think both sides would prefer. But also you
- 1:22Speaker 2: can think of a different team possibly hopping in, or
- 1:26Speaker 2: maybe you can see a team that misses out on
- 1:28Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker going after a player like Bellinger, or you
- 1:31Speaker 2: can even see a team like this is totally like
- 1:35Speaker 2: speculative on Miami. But you look at the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You have their spring training complex very close to where
- 1:41Speaker 2: he grew up here in Arizona. Gets them back in
- 1:43Speaker 2: the West Coast. I mean, they obviously have another need
- 1:47Speaker 2: for a bat, so I could see that being a fit.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But I expect at the end of the day for
- 1:52Speaker 2: him to be back in New York being in a Bronx.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Two of my locks for the offseason were Alex Bregman
- 1:58Speaker 1: to the Red Sox and Bellinger to the Yankees. If
- 2:02Speaker 1: because you just said you feel like this is gonna
- 2:05Speaker 1: happen for the Yankees, what if it doesn't, because we
- 2:08Speaker 1: saw the Red Sox pivot to Ranger Suarez real quick.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But what if the Yankees don't get Cody Bellinger, Obviously
- 2:15Speaker 1: they're gonna stay on the surface.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Ah.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We love our team, we love our roster and fangrafts
- 2:20Speaker 1: and everybody will say, yes, it's still a good team. Yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 1: because they have Aaron Judge. Without Cody Bellinger, where's that
- 2:27Speaker 1: pivot and where are a month from pitchers and catchers reporting.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That would be a huge blow to their offseason. There's
- 2:35Speaker 2: no if sands or butts about that. Bellinger is their
- 2:38Speaker 2: top priority. They've made that incredibly clear all off season.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So let's say he goes somewhere else. Do you look
- 2:45Speaker 2: at the frager market where Bolbachett is out there? Do
- 2:48Speaker 2: you look at the trade market and maybe try to
- 2:50Speaker 2: get like a large now Bar type from the Cardinals
- 2:53Speaker 2: or a Brendan Donovan or Nuko Horner. I mean, there's
- 2:56Speaker 2: a bunch of different bats are out there. We've obviously
- 2:58Speaker 2: seen katl Marte's name around, but Arizona's taken his name
- 3:02Speaker 2: off of the market. But that is that, to me,
- 3:06Speaker 2: would be a doomsday scenario here for the Yankees, because
- 3:08Speaker 2: to me, there's no way of positively spinning that because
- 3:12Speaker 2: you're supposed to be the Yankees, like the big, big
- 3:14Speaker 2: bad Yankees, big market team, where you're supposed to be
- 3:16Speaker 2: able to out spend anyone, and you could possibly lose
- 3:20Speaker 2: the Juan Soto last offseason, and then you lose Cody
- 3:23Speaker 2: Bellinger in a consecutive offseason. That would be a pr
- 3:27Speaker 2: nightmare if you're the ownership group, if you're Brian Cashman,
- 3:30Speaker 2: or anyone involved in that decision, in that decision, which
- 3:34Speaker 2: is why I think it ultimately ends up happening. I
- 3:36Speaker 2: just I think the fit for both sides is just
- 3:38Speaker 2: so clear and so obvious that it just almost makes
- 3:41Speaker 2: too much sense for it not to happen. But as
- 3:43Speaker 2: you said, I felt the same way about Bregman and
- 3:45Speaker 2: the Red Sox. I thought that was a matter of when,
- 3:47Speaker 2: not if. And now he's having his introductory press conference
- 3:51Speaker 2: in Chicago for the Cubs, So anything can happen for
- 3:53Speaker 2: agency as a crapshoot, as they say, but that one
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'll never call anything. Locke. I think that's a very
- 4:00Speaker 2: game to play. But I feel good about that.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Why why haven't the Yankees and Bellinger been able to
- 4:08Speaker 4: figure this out? Like it's been a while now and
- 4:10Speaker 4: we haven't. You know, we've heard little snippets back and forth.
- 4:14Speaker 4: What's holding this up? Is it simply money? Is it years?
- 4:18Speaker 3: Like? What have you been hearing? If anything?
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, at this point, it's years. And you can also
- 4:24Speaker 2: say the case for money as well. He is getting
- 4:26Speaker 2: offered five years from the Yankees and or you know,
- 4:29Speaker 2: he's getting offered five years from the Yankees and he
- 4:31Speaker 2: wants seven years. So that is obviously a gap and
- 4:37Speaker 2: they have not been able to bridge that gap by
- 4:39Speaker 2: any means here. And that's why I think you can
- 4:41Speaker 2: end up maybe finding a solution where you put more
- 4:44Speaker 2: money into a five year offer, maybe throw some incentives
- 4:47Speaker 2: or whatever else they could possibly try to throw into
- 4:51Speaker 2: incentivize him to take it. So I don't know if
- 4:53Speaker 2: the Yankees will be willing to go to seven years,
- 4:56Speaker 2: so I think it would have to be that route
- 4:59Speaker 2: as of this point. That's that's my feel.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Now let's go to Bowlbaschett.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I mean, this guy is just waiting in the wings
- 5:05Speaker 4: too for somebody to come scoop him up. I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 4: a good ballplayer. I love everything about the kid man.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I got to be honest with you. Came back, went
- 5:14Speaker 4: to second base, wasn't afraid to go over there to
- 5:16Speaker 4: play and be in a positioned to help his team
- 5:18Speaker 4: win a World Series?
- 5:19Speaker 3: What are you hearing about him?
- 5:20Speaker 4: And like, let me ask you, this is this a
- 5:23Speaker 4: guy like a backup plan for some teams. Are they
- 5:25Speaker 4: waiting to hear how other guys go or is this
- 5:28Speaker 4: or is this like a priority for some teams and
- 5:30Speaker 4: if so, who Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 2: You can easily look at it as a priority here
- 5:34Speaker 2: for the Philadelphia Phillies, where they had that meeting with
- 5:36Speaker 2: him on Monday, and by all accounts I went very well.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And as someone reminded me of the other day, like,
- 5:43Speaker 2: when is the last time we've heard of a meeting
- 5:44Speaker 2: not going well? I think the next one that we
- 5:46Speaker 2: hear that doesn't go well would be the first. So,
- 5:49Speaker 2: but it's clear that the Phillies are very interested in
- 5:51Speaker 2: Bowl Baschett. And we even heard Jeff pass And say
- 5:54Speaker 2: yesterday that people believe that the Phillies are going to
- 5:57Speaker 2: be in a position where they can offer the most money.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And I wouldn't not really, I wouldn't disagree with that whatsoever.
- 6:03Speaker 2: But there's other teams that are going to be in
- 6:05Speaker 2: the mix here as well. Let's say the Blue Jays
- 6:07Speaker 2: don't get Kyle Tucker, do they go after bow Bashette
- 6:10Speaker 2: and increase their pursuit there? To me, the other option
- 6:14Speaker 2: here would be the Boston Red Sox they just lost
- 6:16Speaker 2: out on Alex Bregman. And you look at Bashett, he's
- 6:19Speaker 2: four years younger, he's incredibly productive. You sign him, you
- 6:24Speaker 2: add some youth to that roster. You also add a
- 6:27Speaker 2: huge option in the in the lot up there. Not
- 6:30Speaker 2: necessarily a big power guy by any means, but he's
- 6:32Speaker 2: a really freaking good player, and I think that's something
- 6:36Speaker 2: that they should really strongly consider if you're the Red Sox,
- 6:39Speaker 2: because you sign him, you make yourself better and you
- 6:41Speaker 2: weaken a division rival in the Toronto Blue Jays. You
- 6:44Speaker 2: can also look at some other options there for the
- 6:46Speaker 2: Red Sox and in the infield there, maybe you can
- 6:49Speaker 2: end up trading some of your outfield depth to end
- 6:52Speaker 2: up improving the infield there. But Bishett, whether it's one
- 6:56Speaker 2: of those three teams or if it's the Yankees, whether
- 6:58Speaker 2: it's the Dodgers, his market is incredibly deep and I
- 7:02Speaker 2: expect him to do very very well in free agency.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yere better than other second basements. And is he totally
- 7:09Speaker 1: out as is he totally out as a shortstop for
- 7:14Speaker 1: all these teams? Is there a chance there's a team,
- 7:16Speaker 1: Because if there's a team, a season is a shortstop
- 7:19Speaker 1: that value for teams, they plug it in their collusion calculator,
- 7:24Speaker 1: it goes higher.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely think there's a chance that he can
- 7:28Speaker 2: be a shortstop next season. Do other teams possibly view
- 7:33Speaker 2: him as a guy who could play a different position. Absolutely,
- 7:36Speaker 2: Like he's got the positional flexibility where he can play
- 7:39Speaker 2: a second base, and we watched him do that in
- 7:42Speaker 2: the postseason in the World Series. And if it wasn't
- 7:45Speaker 2: for the Dodgers's comeback, you're making the case with that
- 7:48Speaker 2: clutch homer where he could possibly be the World Series MVP.
- 7:52Speaker 2: He would have been one of the stronger candidates there
- 7:54Speaker 2: for sure if the Blue Jays ended up winning it.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But I mentioned on the last time I talked to
- 7:59Speaker 2: him the show, and I'll say it again, I have
- 8:02Speaker 2: not talked to a team who believes that Bolbashek cannot
- 8:04Speaker 2: play shortstop. They all think he can. But he's also
- 8:08Speaker 2: got the ability to play other positions, which I think
- 8:10Speaker 2: is going to be in his favor this offseason.

- 9:17Speaker 1: One of the things we talk about with Tucker is, ooh,
- 9:20Speaker 1: the injury. Have you heard anything come up about his injury?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Boba Schett's injury at the end of the season. Yes,
- 9:28Speaker 1: he came back and played in the World Series, which
- 9:30Speaker 1: was awesome. He did great, he swung well, he ran
- 9:33Speaker 1: like Todd yesterday, like Cement's shoes. There was nothing there.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Is there any fear that that could hurt his value
- 9:41Speaker 1: or is all the news you're hearing. Nope, he's one
- 9:44Speaker 1: hundred percent and he'll be back to the same speed
- 9:47Speaker 1: that he was before.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I have not heard any concerns there whatsoever as far
- 9:51Speaker 2: as bashek Goes or even a guy like Kyle Talker.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And I know Tucker has an extensive, extensive injury history
- 9:56Speaker 2: where he's missed some time and even fought through that
- 9:59Speaker 2: finger injury last here where the fracture between two of
- 10:02Speaker 2: his fingers. He played through it obviously did not have
- 10:04Speaker 2: the same success, but I expect both to do just fine.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I haven't heard any concerns about that at all this offseason,
- 10:11Speaker 2: so I don't think it's on the teams's minds. But
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean maybe, but I have not heard that.
- 10:19Speaker 5: Oh go ahead, crats. Actually I was gonna ask what
- 10:20Speaker 5: you're gonna ask, and you're gonna ask it more fun
- 10:22Speaker 5: than me, because who knows, maybe todd father will catch
- 10:24Speaker 5: another stray as you ask a question.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Todd wasn't even listening we used to call Todd old
- 10:29Speaker 1: Cement's shoes Todd, and then he goes out and steals faces,
- 10:33Speaker 1: just like Paul.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I used to steal on you all day, bro.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I actually looked it up before I said that, So, yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I just got to make sure.
- 10:42Speaker 3: You don't lee high Valley I used to. I think
- 10:45Speaker 3: I got two bags in one game.
- 10:48Speaker 2: WHOA look at that? I mean, how do you how
- 10:50Speaker 2: do you respond to that?
- 10:51Speaker 1: That's that's just the life that I live. I'm a
- 10:53Speaker 1: buffoon two oh nine hitter, Robert two nine hittery.
- 10:58Speaker 2: My favorite player recovered though you got that honor on
- 11:00Speaker 2: your cap there, I mean, that's me.
- 11:02Speaker 3: What is that?
- 11:03Speaker 4: That is the most heinous and awkward moment right now
- 11:06Speaker 4: in sports history.
- 11:07Speaker 3: He's not the best guy you've ever covered. That's ridiculous,
- 11:10Speaker 3: he said, favorite.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, I'm not kidding you. You should have seen
- 11:15Speaker 2: he took a young Robert Murray under his wing, and
- 11:18Speaker 2: he was incredible to me. I'll never forget it. He
- 11:20Speaker 2: was incredible to me. That's that's my guy forever.
- 11:23Speaker 4: He probably asked for money afterwards too, because of what
- 11:26Speaker 4: he did for you.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's funny.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I like that friendship friendship, Dudes, I had no friends.
- 11:34Speaker 1: My question is Nolan Aeronado trade to Arizona. We can
- 11:39Speaker 1: sit here and say, oh, he's only getting paid five
- 11:41Speaker 1: million dollars. Oh, you know he's getting six the next year.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Cardinals are eating so much money they didn't get anything back.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Why am I bored of this trade? Is it because
- 11:52Speaker 1: I wanted it to happen last year, because I wanted
- 11:54Speaker 1: Aeronaudo to be gone from from the Cardinals last year
- 11:59Speaker 1: to have enough shot one more year, like closer to
- 12:02Speaker 1: his prime. Or is it the fact that he could
- 12:07Speaker 1: come out of the weeds and really come out and
- 12:09Speaker 1: have some type of year that we don't expect once
- 12:12Speaker 1: he goes to a different environment that isn't the Cardinals
- 12:16Speaker 1: where he originally said I want to be traded to
- 12:18Speaker 1: to play more playoff games, and he actually played more
- 12:21Speaker 1: playoff games in Colorado than he did in his career
- 12:24Speaker 1: in Saint Louis.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not the same player that he once was
- 12:29Speaker 2: when he was with the Rockies and when he first
- 12:32Speaker 2: ended up going over by the Cardinals, but he's still
- 12:35Speaker 2: like you can make the case for the Hall of
- 12:37Speaker 2: Fame for him in my eyes, and that to me
- 12:39Speaker 2: should be exciting enough when it comes to the Diamondbacks here,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and I give him credit for going out and making
- 12:44Speaker 2: this move. And they didn't have to give up much turn.
- 12:47Speaker 2: They gave up one prospect and you add that credibility
- 12:50Speaker 2: to that lineup, and maybe you can convince a guy
- 12:52Speaker 2: like Paul Goldschmid to come back to Arizona for a
- 12:56Speaker 2: final ride or final rider two where he can end
- 12:59Speaker 2: up having those two on the on the corners there
- 13:01Speaker 2: once again in the same infield. So I like I
- 13:05Speaker 2: applaud the Diamondbacks for doing it. And it's a shame
- 13:08Speaker 2: that the Cardinals are doing like the sell off that
- 13:11Speaker 2: they are, like, you can't expect them at this point
- 13:15Speaker 2: to be very good now and just going forward for
- 13:17Speaker 2: for quite some time. And it's a move that heim
- 13:19Speaker 2: Bloom had had to make. It was clear that it
- 13:21Speaker 2: was the decision that had to be made. But you
- 13:25Speaker 2: look at that roster and you still look at the
- 13:26Speaker 2: trade candidates that they have there as well. I mean Brendan,
- 13:29Speaker 2: Brendan donov and Lars Newbar, Alec Burlison, all those guys
- 13:33Speaker 2: are being asked about in trade talks and and they
- 13:35Speaker 2: don't have to move any of them by any means.
- 13:37Speaker 2: They can hold on to them and they can try
- 13:41Speaker 2: to maintain their value, or they could try they could
- 13:44Speaker 2: hold on to them and shop them at the deadline
- 13:46Speaker 2: if they're not getting an offer. That's good enough for
- 13:48Speaker 2: him right now. But still, you look at the youth
- 13:51Speaker 2: on that team. It's going to be a lot of
- 13:52Speaker 2: guys who are breaking into the big leagues or just
- 13:55Speaker 2: just started in a big league So it might be
- 13:57Speaker 2: rough here for a little bit for the Cardinals, but yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 2: it's a move they had to make.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Robert. My last one for you is connected to the Diamondbacks.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Gino Suarez was a big story at one point last
- 14:10Speaker 5: year for how many homers he was hitting.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I know he.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Finished a little slow and his postseason had a big moment,
- 14:16Speaker 5: but he also had plenty of slowly moments in terms
- 14:19Speaker 5: of the overall body of work. Right it wasn't his
- 14:22Speaker 5: best work at the plate. So my point here is
- 14:25Speaker 5: that when we spoke about the Red Sox yesterday and
- 14:28Speaker 5: what else they need to do for the rest of
- 14:29Speaker 5: the off season after the Ranger Suarez signing, AJ and
- 14:32Speaker 5: I were kicking around, Okay, well, maybe they need a
- 14:34Speaker 5: second or a third base, and that's been talked about
- 14:36Speaker 5: for a while. We were going through third base market,
- 14:38Speaker 5: we brought up Gino Suarez as one of the options,
- 14:41Speaker 5: and it got slaughtered online. It wasn't even just slaughtering
- 14:45Speaker 5: the Boston Fit. It was like him as a player.
- 14:47Speaker 5: The amount of fans that replied, like, I don't want
- 14:49Speaker 5: to touch that, he just strikes out, he's a poor defender.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 14:52Speaker 5: I was like, are we talking about the same player?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Now?
- 14:56Speaker 5: He's not a superstar and the home run numbers look superstarish,
- 14:59Speaker 5: but there are they're parts of this game that are missing.
- 15:01Speaker 5: I would not call him a bad defender. I would
- 15:03Speaker 5: also not call him like a complete waste of everything else,
- 15:07Speaker 5: Like he's not this. Is he the fastest?
- 15:08Speaker 2: No?
- 15:09Speaker 5: Is he the slowest?
- 15:09Speaker 2: No?
- 15:10Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:10Speaker 5: Does he bring you potentially fifty home runs to a
- 15:13Speaker 5: lineup that I think could use that?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yes?
- 15:15Speaker 5: So I just had a hard time kind of weighing
- 15:18Speaker 5: what I was seeing and that fans basically would rather
- 15:21Speaker 5: just stick with what they had versus add someone like
- 15:23Speaker 5: Gino if he was the only option that they could
- 15:25Speaker 5: figure out your.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Thoughts, I'm stunned that they wouldn't want him. It's like you,
- 15:30Speaker 2: I remember at the trade deadline, he was the most
- 15:32Speaker 2: he was the hottest commodity. Every fan base wanted him,
- 15:34Speaker 2: every team wanted him. There was teams bidding against one
- 15:37Speaker 2: another forum. I'm stunned to hear that. Obviously it didn't
- 15:40Speaker 2: go well with the Mariners this go around, but he's
- 15:43Speaker 2: coming off of a season where fifty homers was was
- 15:46Speaker 2: easily attainable. What I don't know necessarily the number that
- 15:48Speaker 2: he ended up finishing with, but it was very close
- 15:51Speaker 2: to that. So if you can end up adding him,
- 15:53Speaker 2: and if you're not gonna end up having to pay
- 15:55Speaker 2: what you do for like a Bushette or a Tucker
- 15:58Speaker 2: or anything like that, so you want a value play,
- 16:01Speaker 2: that's definitely a really good option there. But I would
- 16:06Speaker 2: understand why the fan base would be frustrated if you
- 16:09Speaker 2: don't go from like a or if you go from
- 16:12Speaker 2: a Bragmant type, possibly thinking Bishett and then you go
- 16:15Speaker 2: to a Suarez type, but still like, he's an incredibly
- 16:17Speaker 2: talented player, adds a huge boost to that lineup, and
- 16:20Speaker 2: you can think of all sorts of different teams like
- 16:22Speaker 2: you could think, I mean, shoot, I mean I can
- 16:25Speaker 2: think of a bunch of different teams could use a
- 16:27Speaker 2: guy like Gino Suarez like the Pirates would make a
- 16:29Speaker 2: lot of sense for him too. I haven't heard them
- 16:30Speaker 2: connected to Suarez by any means, but they were on
- 16:35Speaker 2: Okamoto and they obviously did not get him, So maybe
- 16:39Speaker 2: that could be a pivot for him, pivot for them.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Maybe that could be a pivot for a bunch of
- 16:43Speaker 2: other teams. But don't I don't get the slander for
- 16:45Speaker 2: Gino Suarez whatsoever. He's a great player.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Forty nine home runs. I don't care if your turn.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Forty nine home runs in a lineup is awesome. Last
- 16:53Speaker 1: comment here you said about how well I treated you.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I was reminded of something today. We met in twenty eighteen.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You just followed me on Twitter today. This is unbelievable, Like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: how could you have not followed me on Twitter? I
- 17:10Speaker 1: have tremendous content out there and you just followed me today.
- 17:14Speaker 1: You're welcome, and I'm not mad about it.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Dang, you don't follow me though.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Well, I'm because I was waiting until you actually followed
- 17:23Speaker 1: me so we can follow each other.
- 17:26Speaker 2: There we go. I'll love that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Well.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I haven't gotten the following notification quite yet, so until
- 17:31Speaker 2: I get that I'm mad at you.
- 17:33Speaker 1: That's fair. I'm not mad.
- 17:36Speaker 5: It's like, it's like the couple that everyone thought should
- 17:39Speaker 5: always happen, but neither side wanted to make a move
- 17:41Speaker 5: and ask someone out. This is that on Twitter to friends,
- 17:45Speaker 5: lifelong friends that just won't press the follow button to
- 17:48Speaker 5: acknowledge that they've been friends for a very long time.
- 17:50Speaker 5: So I know Chris did something.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I'm looking on Instagram. Now we don't follow each other
- 17:55Speaker 3: on Instagram. That's weird.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Oh well, sure, I'll follow all you boys on Instagram. Boy, Like,
- 18:01Speaker 2: everyone's there we go. I got the following notification from Todd.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I'll follow him back right now. There we go. This
- 18:07Speaker 2: is the content that everyone craves, right right.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Everyone's like, hey, I'll take twenty minutes of Robert. I
- 18:13Speaker 5: want mostly talk about who's following who, although I guess
- 18:16Speaker 5: we did start the conversation that way, just who's Kyle
- 18:19Speaker 5: Tucker following? But anyway, Robert will let you get back
- 18:22Speaker 5: to it. Hopefully it breaks today. Thanks for joining us, dude,
- 18:25Speaker 5: always a blast.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Hey, thank you guys. I appreciate you, and hopefully hopefully
- 18:29Speaker 2: we can break some news today that'd be very fun.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Thanks we'll be on the lookout, yes, fingers crossed. All right,
- 18:42Speaker 5: we got Todd Father today who watches a lot of
- 18:44Speaker 5: Yankees and works for you us. During the season, Chris
- 18:47Speaker 5: Kershner and Brendan Coody from The Athletic wrote about the
- 18:50Speaker 5: Yankees trade for Ryan Weathers but also what's next. So
- 18:56Speaker 5: in the article they said they still need a horse.
- 18:58Speaker 5: They didn't expand their major league prospect capital to acquire
- 19:03Speaker 5: Weathers is and this wasn't a huge give up for
- 19:06Speaker 5: them in their mind, and I would say with much
- 19:09Speaker 5: of the industry also thinking, it's not like they gave
- 19:11Speaker 5: up the blue chip recruit at the top. Some of
- 19:14Speaker 5: those guys could end up being great players, but at
- 19:17Speaker 5: least for now, their write ups are not superstar right ups.
- 19:20Speaker 5: So an opposing scout in this article, actually you put
- 19:23Speaker 5: it this way quote the Yankees didn't trade anyone they'll
- 19:26Speaker 5: miss as usual, which is a discussion that we often have,
- 19:29Speaker 5: and that's actually something that's crafty that is underrated. The
- 19:33Speaker 5: Yankees are able to pump and promote their prospects. I
- 19:35Speaker 5: think the Dodgers do a nice job of this too,
- 19:37Speaker 5: but they know which ones they're supposed to be holding.
- 19:40Speaker 5: On to so they do a nice job of that
- 19:42Speaker 5: as well, or they just get stingy and deals and say,
- 19:44Speaker 5: we're not going to give up the guys that we
- 19:46Speaker 5: think are really special. So I'm sure they've gotten asked
- 19:48Speaker 5: about Cam Schlitzler in the past and they were like, Hey,
- 19:50Speaker 5: this guy's got high upside, he's not getting enough love,
- 19:53Speaker 5: and we think he's going to be a big deal,
- 19:56Speaker 5: so we keep them. But anyway, the other part of
- 19:59Speaker 5: this article talked about the fact that they still have
- 20:04Speaker 5: a pretty high intention of grabbing a starter that can
- 20:07Speaker 5: be more of a workhorse in their rotation top Father.
- 20:10Speaker 5: It sounds like they almost look at Weathers as a
- 20:12Speaker 5: guy who has significant room for growth. Right He's someone
- 20:16Speaker 5: who hasn't racked up a ton of innings. He's dealt
- 20:18Speaker 5: with injuries. Weathers actually spoke today, i think during the
- 20:21Speaker 5: show in his presser intro, saying here it is from
- 20:24Speaker 5: your boy, Jack Curry. He was shocked when he learned
- 20:27Speaker 5: the Yankees had acquire him. It's very early, but the
- 20:29Speaker 5: Yankees spoke to him about the possibility of using the
- 20:32Speaker 5: two seam fastball more to open up spots for his
- 20:34Speaker 5: four seamer. He only uses sinker four percent of the
- 20:37Speaker 5: time in twenty twenty five, and he had used it
- 20:39Speaker 5: twelve and a half percent of the time in twenty
- 20:40Speaker 5: twenty four. So you know that Yankees brass is already cranking,
- 20:43Speaker 5: trying to figure out how to make this guy another
- 20:45Speaker 5: success story for them in far as far as I wouldn't,
- 20:48Speaker 5: you know, whatever you want to call it pitching development
- 20:50Speaker 5: or pitching resurrection. So your thoughts on this move, but
- 20:53Speaker 5: then also what's next. It sounds like they're still in
- 20:56Speaker 5: play for a guy like Freddy Parlton.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I did like this move. I did.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I you know, I thought it was a really good move.
- 21:03Speaker 4: If he's anything like his father Weather's, uh, they're gonna
- 21:06Speaker 4: love him. The guy was fun, loving dude. He was awesome.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I played with him in the tail end of his career.
- 21:12Speaker 4: But yeah, I think this was It was a good movie.
- 21:14Speaker 4: It was calculated. Again, when you have prospects and you
- 21:18Speaker 4: have guys that other teams think that they're high on,
- 21:22Speaker 4: go ahead and trade them. They've seen teams in the
- 21:24Speaker 4: last couple of years that don't do that, and then
- 21:26Speaker 4: all of a sudden they lose, and all of a sudden, boom,
- 21:29Speaker 4: they don't want the prospects to turn into suspects. So
- 21:31Speaker 4: I do like this, they are going to need another guy.
- 21:34Speaker 4: You know, with the injuries of Rodin, Freed, and Schmid,
- 21:38Speaker 4: they're gonna be on you know, on the shelf in
- 21:39Speaker 4: the beginning of the year. I don't think the Yankees
- 21:41Speaker 4: are done. I do think with Weathers, they're gonna you know,
- 21:45Speaker 4: maneuver some more pitches so he can be that much better.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Another lefty. You always need more lefties. I love every
- 21:51Speaker 4: second of that. Again, is this gonna blow you off
- 21:54Speaker 4: the charts and be like, oh, the Yankees are World
- 21:56Speaker 4: Series champs? No, but it's a dive in there to
- 21:59Speaker 4: get somebody in there that can help out until these
- 22:01Speaker 4: big dogs come in and they they can move him
- 22:03Speaker 4: around to wherever they want to after that.
- 22:07Speaker 1: The Yankees every off season, every off season in the
- 22:09Speaker 1: last like four or five years, they've made it a
- 22:12Speaker 1: concerted effort to say this is the guy we're going after,
- 22:17Speaker 1: this is what we want. Rarely have they missed on
- 22:21Speaker 1: or been out bid, as everyone's like, oh, the Yankees
- 22:23Speaker 1: should never be out bid. They go after the guys
- 22:27Speaker 1: that they want. Rodan Aaron Judge did sign back but
- 22:31Speaker 1: he was a free agent. They wanted him, how wanted them,
- 22:35Speaker 1: bang Re signed him, Carlos Rodan. What you think of
- 22:38Speaker 1: him now is irrelevant. In that offseason when he came
- 22:42Speaker 1: off of thrown for the Giants, that was the guy.
- 22:45Speaker 1: That was the guy in the off season. Garret Cole
- 22:50Speaker 1: Cashman said that was their white whale, got him Max Freed. Now,
- 22:55Speaker 1: did they miss out on guys before then?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Yes?
- 22:58Speaker 1: Obviously, were they going on once yes? Did they get
- 23:02Speaker 1: to a level where they weren't comfortable and the Mets
- 23:04Speaker 1: were ultimately going to get him, no idea, but they
- 23:08Speaker 1: go out and get the guy. So as quiet as
- 23:11Speaker 1: this offseason has been for the Yankees, there has to
- 23:15Speaker 1: be somebody out there. There has to be a guy
- 23:17Speaker 1: out there who's going to be there starting pitching All
- 23:22Speaker 1: Star representative besides Max Freed. I have no reason to
- 23:26Speaker 1: believe Max Freed is not going to be back in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the All Star Game. He's going to be back in
- 23:29Speaker 1: the All Star Game again. But those first three months April,
- 23:33Speaker 1: May and June can set you on a path to
- 23:36Speaker 1: a successful season or a season where you are scratching
- 23:40Speaker 1: and clawn just to make the playoffs. And I have
- 23:42Speaker 1: a hard time believing that the lineup of the rotation
- 23:46Speaker 1: they have right now is the rotation that they think
- 23:49Speaker 1: can put them two games behind, three games ahead of
- 23:54Speaker 1: the Blue Jays, the Red Sox, the Orioles in the
- 23:56Speaker 1: American League East without that workhorse we're talking about right now,
- 24:01Speaker 1: and I think I think they have to go get them.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I don't think because they're not going to rush back Rodan,
- 24:05Speaker 1: They're not going to rush back Cole. And you don't
- 24:08Speaker 1: know what you're gonna get of you months and months
- 24:11Speaker 1: and months of slitler. So there is there's concerted work
- 24:15Speaker 1: that's needed. I think the Yankees know it, and Cashman
- 24:19Speaker 1: always gets it done.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Well.
- 24:21Speaker 5: They lost the bid for Edward Cabrera, but there were
- 24:25Speaker 5: already conversations. My guess is that these types of prospects
- 24:29Speaker 5: were brought up. These names, right, were probably brought up
- 24:33Speaker 5: in their discussions with the Marlins for Edward Cabrera, and
- 24:36Speaker 5: the Yankees were definitely going after him. The Cubs ended
- 24:39Speaker 5: up with him. It sounded like the Yankees weren't close
- 24:41Speaker 5: in terms of what their final trade proposal was, right.
- 24:45Speaker 5: They weren't throwing an Owen Casey level caliber player right
- 24:50Speaker 5: A guy that has the upside to be a really
- 24:53Speaker 5: legitimate outfielder, impact bat in a lineup, and who is
- 24:56Speaker 5: ready right now to play every day. Right, So then
- 25:01Speaker 5: you go, well, did you like these guys still looking
- 25:05Speaker 5: for pitching? And you know this, Todd Father, We've been
- 25:07Speaker 5: going over this a lot, even in the past twenty
- 25:09Speaker 5: four hours at the Red Sox and people like the
- 25:11Speaker 5: Red Sox have like ten starters. Now, great, you know what,
- 25:14Speaker 5: that's called a contending pitching staff. That's what you need.
- 25:18Speaker 5: That's a contending pitching staff because you need that to
- 25:20Speaker 5: get through a marathon. You need to get that through
- 25:23Speaker 5: the Al East, which should be the toughest division top
- 25:26Speaker 5: to bottom in baseball this year, and then how often
- 25:30Speaker 5: do you get to the playoffs and you're missing some guys.
- 25:32Speaker 5: So if you've got ten really nice options, that's what
- 25:35Speaker 5: you need these days, and the Yanks are trying to
- 25:37Speaker 5: do the same thing.
- 25:38Speaker 4: The more the merrier options they're key, especially nowadays with
- 25:42Speaker 4: pitchers not throwing as many pitchers anymore and not going
- 25:46Speaker 4: deep into games too. I mean, you need your relievers
- 25:49Speaker 4: first and foremost, but if you have other starters out
- 25:52Speaker 4: looking at Dodgers at all, the injuries they had and
- 25:54Speaker 4: they still won the World Series. So opportunity arises, you're
- 25:57Speaker 4: going to get your chance. Just hold on, things do
- 26:00Speaker 4: happen and thinks shake up.
- 26:01Speaker 3: For sure, you.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Want to be the best twenty six guys at the
- 26:05Speaker 1: end of the season when you make the playoffs. The
- 26:08Speaker 1: Red Sox, yeah, they might have an issue, but the
- 26:11Speaker 1: really the fact is if two of those extra five
- 26:15Speaker 1: starters slot into the bullpen with their three high leverage guys,
- 26:20Speaker 1: whoever it ends up being most likely Whitlock, White Shirt
- 26:24Speaker 1: and Chappie. You know, now you're just formulating a team
- 26:30Speaker 1: that has more depth and more ability to withstand the injuries,
- 26:34Speaker 1: not if injuries, the injuries, because until a team figures
- 26:39Speaker 1: out how to not have pitchers get injured, that's what's
- 26:44Speaker 1: gonna happen. And if that is, the name of the
- 26:46Speaker 1: game is depth, and not just depth, but quality depth.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Sorry to all the Red Sox starting pitching prospects, you're
- 26:56Speaker 1: going to be in the bushes until somebody's needed. So
- 26:58Speaker 1: go down there, be red and you'll be the next
- 27:01Speaker 1: one up.
- 27:02Speaker 5: And now more than ever you're needed. Right, The Red
- 27:04Speaker 5: Sox ended up calling up a ton of prospects that
- 27:07Speaker 5: they didn't think they were going to need the Mets
- 27:08Speaker 5: did that. Almost every team ends up doing that where
- 27:10Speaker 5: they're like, oh, we didn't think we were going to
- 27:12Speaker 5: call this guy up this year, and then all of
- 27:13Speaker 5: a sudden, you're in a bind. Don't forget most guys
- 27:17Speaker 5: don't say it like it is or say that they're
- 27:20Speaker 5: pissed that they're now starting at the jump. But last
- 27:22Speaker 5: year we had a veteran and Marcus Stroman who said
- 27:25Speaker 5: ninety times I'm a starter, and five minutes later he
- 27:27Speaker 5: was a starter. Anyway, right, eventually not but five minutes
- 27:30Speaker 5: later he was a starter. It was what a week later,
- 27:33Speaker 5: Luis Heal I think got hurt and then he was
- 27:35Speaker 5: one of the five. So it happens very quickly. You're
- 27:38Speaker 5: going to get an opportunity.
