- 0:08There are rules to surviving a horror movie.
- 0:11Don't split up, don't investigate the noise, and never say, "I'll be right
- 0:17back." Here, three friends break down the scares, the kills, the monsters,
- 0:24and the terrible decisions that got everyone there in the first place.
- 0:28We rate the scares, we roast the victims, and we ask the important
- 0:33question: Would we survive?
- 0:37So dim the lights, pour the drinks, and prepare for spoilers.
- 0:43This is The Scarier Things Club.
- 0:48Hi, welcome back.
- 0:49This is The Scarier Things Club.
- 0:50We're so excited to have you join us today.
- 0:53So if you tuned in, we're just gonna get right into it.
- 0:55If you tuned in to our last episode, we had talked about we
- 0:58were gonna do the movie Signs.
- 1:00We're not gonna do that today.
- 1:02Plot twist.
- 1:02We promise we will get to it, but there has been a movie out recently in
- 1:07theaters that has really just blown up.
- 1:10That movie is Obsession.
- 1:12We- Listen, our group, we got a babysitter.
- 1:15We left, we left the babies at home.
- 1:19We went out on a week night, on a Tuesday night, to go watch this movie,
- 1:24and it did not disappoint, by any means.
- 1:27No.
- 1:28So we have not talked about this movie.
- 1:30This has been, like, two weeks ago that we went and watched it.
- 1:33Has it been that long?
- 1:33Uh-huh.
- 1:33Yeah, it was the day before my birthday.
- 1:35It was.
- 1:36Yes.
- 1:37And so I really went through a deep dive.
- 1:42I watched so many YouTube videos, like- Ooh … divulging this movie- Yeah
- 1:46Afterwards.
- 1:46So we're, that's what we're gonna talk about today.
- 1:49We promise the next episode will be Signs.
- 1:50We'll go back to our our regular routine.
- 1:53And that's kinda the beauty of this podcast, is that, there's all of these
- 1:57movies that kinda stand the test of time, but there have been so many new
- 2:01movies that have come out, and so we're gonna always do just kind of a mixture.
- 2:06There are spoilers, so big spoiler alert for this episode.
- 2:10If you have not seen it yet maybe pause.
- 2:13Go listen to our other episodes.
- 2:14Um, and then once you've seen it, come back.
- 2:16I do believe today maybe, or yesterday, some- so at some point this week,
- 2:21Obsession was released to streaming.
- 2:24I don't think it's a free streaming, and I should have
- 2:27looked it up where it's streaming.
- 2:28I bet I can find that really quick.
- 2:30Where it's streaming.
- 2:31Yeah, it, it did release on June 30th, so yesterday.
- 2:33Yeah.
- 2:34Yeah.
- 2:34Yeah.
- 2:34As we record.
- 2:35Yes.
- 2:36But as we re- As, as we record
- 2:36… not as you watch it.
- 2:37Yes, that's correct.
- 2:38Um, and I think it is an extended cut maybe-
- 2:42That's right
- 2:42… or a director's cut.
- 2:43It is.
- 2:43It is.
- 2:44Oh.
- 2:44Yes.
- 2:44We gotta watch that.
- 2:45So now I wanna watch that too.
- 2:46Wow.
- 2:47For real.
- 2:47I can't imagine, like, what else they could have added.
- 2:50I know, because I also don't know if I wanna put myself through that again.
- 2:54It was so intense.
- 2:54I think I could.
- 2:56I think I could f- for the sake of it-
- 2:58Yeah
- 2:58… to experience that and to see what else, like you say, what else can they add?
- 3:02But I- was so tense that whole time-
- 3:07Yes
- 3:07… and I didn't realize it until we left the theater-
- 3:10… That I had a physical response and my whole, like, my chest was tight.
- 3:14Yeah.
- 3:15Well, before we get super deep into this, this movie- Yeah … um, what I brought to
- 3:21the club today, I, and I haven't asked you guys this question yet, so I want honesty.
- 3:26Always.
- 3:27This is some introspection, okay?
- 3:28'Cause I, I have my answer that I will share.
- 3:32So this movie, they're… Did they just graduate high school?
- 3:35Did I, did I- I don't know … get that correctly?
- 3:38Mm-hmm.
- 3:38'Cause they were all living well-
- 3:40' Cause they were, like, talking about- That is confusing … getting into school.
- 3:43Mm-hmm.
- 3:43So in my mind, they had just graduated high school.
- 3:44Hmm.
- 3:45That's a good point.
- 3:46Yeah, 'cause she- So- … she had just got that letter.
- 3:47Yeah.
- 3:47Yeah.
- 3:48About- Yeah … but she had been denied a lot of, to going to a lot of colleges too.
- 3:53So I don't know if it was over time, because they also
- 3:56were living on their own.
- 3:57Right, a lot of them were.
- 3:58Okay, so I guess that isn't-
- 3:59So I'm confused.
- 4:00So that kind of plays into my second question, but my first question
- 4:03is, before we met our spouses-
- 4:05Who would you have used a One Wish Willow on to- Oh … make
- 4:08them fall in love with you?
- 4:09Oh, goodness.
- 4:10While you think about it, I'll talk about mine.
- 4:12Okay.
- 4:12At what time of your life?
- 4:14This was seventh grade until senior year of high school.
- 4:17Okay.
- 4:17So for five years.
- 4:19Okay.
- 4:19I would've used my One Wish Willow… Do we wanna use just first names?
- 4:26Yeah, probably.
- 4:29I mean, if he ever watches this, he's gonna be like,
- 4:31he's gonna know immediately.
- 4:32I would've wished that Chase would have fallen in love with
- 4:36me, love me more than the world.
- 4:37Let me tell you, I met Chase- … in seventh grade in typing class, and he also
- 4:43was in band, and he was a percussionist, and I just, I immediately, it was like
- 4:49love at, like he was my first love, truly.
- 4:51But he never liked me back.
- 4:54Did he know- He never … you and he knew you liked him?
- 4:57Yeah, he had to have known.
- 4:59Oh.
- 4:59He had to have known.
- 5:00And it was, like, intense.
- 5:02And it was a big deal because I fell in love with him in seventh grade.
- 5:05We were, like, in the same friend group.
- 5:07I think at one point, I had had someone tell him, like, "Hey, she's into you,"
- 5:10and he was like, "No, I'm not interested." And it was a big deal because when we
- 5:14went to eighth grade, we went to different h- junior highs, and I was heartbroken.
- 5:19I was- Aww … 'cause I was like, "I'm not gonna see him for two years.
- 5:21He's gonna fall in love with some other girl.
- 5:23What's gonna happen?" So before, before summer break, I had gone, this is
- 5:28so dumb, I had gone to Silver Dollar City, and I bought this really, in the
- 5:34day, I thought it was so cute, but it was, like, a butterfly necklace, and
- 5:37I wore that sucker every day, every s- with my polos, and my headband- Mm
- 5:42and my Unplucked eyebrows.
- 5:43Yes.
- 5:44That was my uniform.
- 5:45And then there was one day where I forgot to wear it, and Chase
- 5:49did not go to school that day.
- 5:52And so I was like, "It's the necklace." It
- 5:54is
- 5:54the power
- 5:55of the butterfly.
- 5:56The
- 5:57necklace of power.
- 5:57Yes.
- 5:57And so, and of course, I told my best friend this.
- 5:59I was like, "Listen, you're gonna think I'm totally crazy, but I have
- 6:02this necklace and it's all-powerful.
- 6:04This is an all-powerful necklace." And- From Silver Dollar City.
- 6:09That hundreds of people also have.
- 6:11You're right, yeah.
- 6:12They're gonna be like, "What, this old thing?"
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:14And-
- 6:14It's your One Wish Willow, though
- 6:16… oh, but it did not.
- 6:17It's the
- 6:17real
- 6:17thing.
- 6:17Maybe it got spared.
- 6:19Maybe I got spared.
- 6:20Yeah, maybe you did.
- 6:22But anyway seventh grade ends.
- 6:24We go to first day of, of eighth grade.
- 6:26Guess what I wore to school?
- 6:28Had to be that butterfly
- 6:30necklace.
- 6:31My best friend was like, "What, do you think he's gonna show up here?"
- 6:34Like, she was so cruel to me, and I-
- 6:38Are you still friends?
- 6:39Oh, yeah.
- 6:39Okay.
- 6:40Of course we are.
- 6:40Yeah.
- 6:41Okay, then I won't
- 6:41say anything.
- 6:42We're… No, you can say it.
- 6:44She… Listen, I think she probably was like, she knew from the get-go,
- 6:48like, it was never gonna work.
- 6:49Yeah.
- 6:50And I was just delusional.
- 6:51But if I, if someone would have told me, "You can make a wish and he will
- 6:56fall in love with you," I instantly, I would have ignored the warnings.
- 6:59I would have wished for that.
- 7:01Obviously, looking back, I'm very thankful- … for how life has played out.
- 7:05But that's who I would have used my-
- 7:07Ooh
- 7:08… One Wish Willow on.
- 7:09Do you guys have anybody?
- 7:10I guess it's okay if you don't.
- 7:12I really just wanted to talk about my experience.
- 7:14Mine would have, 100% would have been the billion dollars.
- 7:17That's what you would have wished?
- 7:18Okay.
- 7:19So there was no one before- In high school or- There was no person?
- 7:22… that you liked that never liked you or that-
- 7:25I mean, I'm sure there was, but none that I would ever be like, none that
- 7:28I was ever like really just obsessed.
- 7:33Oh.
- 7:33Good.
- 7:34Very good.
- 7:34Yeah.
- 7:34I, like, would learn, I figured out how to write his name in Wingdings.
- 7:39The symbols.
- 7:40Isn't this-
- 7:43I really did.
- 7:44And it was all, I would write it all over my folders and all over my paper.
- 7:50And it was, I- I really- Like, you drew…
- 7:56You know, I just learned something today.
- 7:58I did not know that you could spell stuff with Wingdings.
- 8:00What?
- 8:01Yeah.
- 8:01It's a- It was all
- 8:02found out … it's a whole- I thought it was just random symbols.
- 8:04I didn't know you could actually- Well,
- 8:05yeah.
- 8:05Yeah, but every-
- 8:07Every one was tied to a letter … everything correlates to a, yeah.
- 8:08Oh, okay.
- 8:09Yeah.
- 8:09Well, I learned something new today.
- 8:10S-
- 8:10but which version?
- 8:11There are a lot of versions of
- 8:12Wingdings.
- 8:12Oh, my Go- I know.
- 8:13I don't remember.
- 8:14Probably the first one that came up.
- 8:16So you were able to draw them out?
- 8:18Yeah.
- 8:19Oh, I could never.
- 8:20That's because I w- that's how obsessed I was.
- 8:22You practiced a lot.
- 8:24I did, yeah.
- 8:25Okay.
- 8:27Shannon really- I
- 8:28love knowing that about you.
- 8:30I know.
- 8:31I know.
- 8:31Listen, like, and I think I've shown you a picture of, like-
- 8:34Of you at that time?
- 8:36Yeah.
- 8:36Yeah.
- 8:37And she really needed a hug.
- 8:39She really needed some help.
- 8:41And it to- uh, looking back, I'm like, "I totally get it, bro. Like,
- 8:44no hard feelings. I get it." But yeah, I was, I was hardcore, like,
- 8:49head-over-heels in love with him.
- 8:50Yeah.
- 8:52In high school, there was one boy that, at the time, I would have been like-
- 9:01We're so similar that we, it's natural.
- 9:04We were made to be together.
- 9:05Yeah.
- 9:05Of course.
- 9:06Yeah.
- 9:07Oh, gross.
- 9:08I, I feel, does that feel weird to say their f- name?
- 9:11Like for me, that feels weird.
- 9:12Oh.
- 9:12I mean, he knew I liked him.
- 9:13I, for a second I was like, do I, I, 'cause I've been thinking about this,
- 9:18I was like, do we give a code name?
- 9:20You could give a code name.
- 9:21No, I'm fine.
- 9:22I just, I just transmitted it.
- 9:22I'm 35 years old, I don't care.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:25But isn't that weird how-
- 9:26… You're like still kinda self-conscious about it?
- 9:28Your teenage self is like- There's that … hmm, it's like the- It's
- 9:31like the- … every girl they knew is- Yeah … and it's, the time has passed.
- 9:33You were not sly.
- 9:34Yeah.
- 9:34Yeah, no.
- 9:35His name was Justin, and I was just absolutely sure.
- 9:40Yes.
- 9:40Is this the
- 9:40Justin?
- 9:40The one.
- 9:41The very one.
- 9:41Oh, wow.
- 9:43Okay.
- 9:44Yeah.
- 9:45That's the one, girl.
- 9:47Wow.
- 9:48Um, isn't that crazy?
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:49The Lord's provision, man.
- 9:51Ain't that right?
- 9:52Ain't that the truth?
- 9:53But yeah.
- 9:53And then in college it would've been Gerard Butler.
- 9:58Oh.
- 9:58For sure.
- 9:58Age difference- Oh my
- 9:59gosh
- 10:00… obviously that's my thing,
- 10:01if we're doing celebrities.
- 10:03Wow.
- 10:04Ooh.
- 10:05In college, that would've been the one.
- 10:07Okay.
- 10:07See, that's, that's where you wanna go is, is you wanna, instead of
- 10:10wishing it away on someone in high school, go for a celebrity 'cause
- 10:14then they've already got the money.
- 10:15Mm-hmm.
- 10:15You're right.
- 10:16No prenup.
- 10:17Yeah.
- 10:18' Cause
- 10:18that way then if
- 10:19they're terrible, then you still come out-
- 10:20They wouldn't want a prenup … on top … because they would be obsessed with you.
- 10:23Oh, you're right.
- 10:24You're right.
- 10:24I forget about that.
- 10:25Yeah.
- 10:26Huh.
- 10:27Okay.
- 10:29Can we who, celebrity now, who would it be?
- 10:33Oh, Lord.
- 10:34Now?
- 10:35Yeah Mine would be Glen Powell
- 10:39He's a cutie.
- 10:40He seems nice.
- 10:41Yes, he does.
- 10:41He seems like a down-to-earth kinda person.
- 10:43Yeah, he does.
- 10:45He's just so pretty.
- 10:46I don't know if there… I don't know.
- 10:48What do you think?
- 10:49What do I think?
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:50Like- Do you feel like it's a trap?
- 10:53Yeah, I do feel like it's a trap.
- 10:54But not for me.
- 10:56Not for y- for me?
- 10:57No, I mean, I think, I think if I told you-
- 10:59Yeah
- 11:00mine, I think you would be like, "Oh my goodness."
- 11:03Like, "Oh, I don't look anything like her?"
- 11:06I mean, I don't know.
- 11:08I've already kinda gotten in trouble with this one before.
- 11:10Oh.
- 11:10Oh.
- 11:11Well,
- 11:11then- I already know who it is.
- 11:12Wait, no.
- 11:13There are a handful.
- 11:14Is it, uh, Sporty Spice?
- 11:16No.
- 11:17No, sorry, not Sporty Spice.
- 11:18Ginger Spice.
- 11:18No.
- 11:19Oh,
- 11:19no?
- 11:19Today.
- 11:20Not t- 30 years ago or however long ago.
- 11:22Jessica
- 11:22Alba?
- 11:23Today.
- 11:24She still looks pretty.
- 11:25She does.
- 11:26But I'm talking ab- uh, Tori Kelly.
- 11:29Oh, that's right.
- 11:30Okay, let me tell you what this man did.
- 11:32Is
- 11:32she the Christian singer?
- 11:33Yes, with the beautiful… Oh, maybe that's why I be
- 11:35trying to wear my hair curly.
- 11:40It's subconscious.
- 11:42Please love me.
- 11:43Um- So I
- 11:44curled
- 11:44my hair for you.
- 11:44I do love, I do love you.
- 11:45There was a thank you.
- 11:46He will choose you over Tori Kelly.
- 11:47That's right.
- 11:48I would choose you over Tori Kel-
- 11:51I don't know … Tori Kelly any day.
- 11:51She got a lot going for her.
- 11:52I
- 11:52would, I would- Yeah, she got a lot going for you
- 11:53to be honest with you, I probably wouldn't be able to
- 11:54blame you at the end of the day.
- 11:56I mean, I would blame you, but I, back in the back of my head,
- 11:58I would be like, "Yeah." Um-
- 12:00I get it.
- 12:02I would probably too… No, I'm just kidding.
- 12:03But maybe.
- 12:04Um, s- so what he did was there was a trend going around for a
- 12:09while that was, like, where you tell your husband, your boyfriend,
- 12:14whatever, you say, "Name any woman."
- 12:17And all these men their go-to, and it could be anybody.
- 12:22Like, I'm a woman sitting here telling you.
- 12:23You could put my, you could say my name.
- 12:25And man after man, they are calling up women from history.
- 12:29They'll be like, "I don't know. Rosa Parks?" And people they
- 12:33do, like, historical women.
- 12:34I said, "Mark, name a woman." And he was like, "Uh, I don't know." And I was like-
- 12:41You're the only woman, babe
- 12:42… "For real?" He didn't even say that.
- 12:44I went- Oh … he said, "I don't know." I said, "Any woman."
- 12:50And he was like, "Oh," and this went on for a while.
- 12:53And then he goes, "Oh, I got it.
- 12:55My girl, Tori Kelly." And I was like, "You've gotta be kidding me."
- 13:00My girl.
- 13:01My girl, Tori Kelly.
- 13:01So I'm like, "No, we wouldn't even say- Don't say … like Hillary
- 13:04Clinton or somebody like that."
- 13:06What if he had said Hillary Clinton?
- 13:06My girl, Hillary Clinton.
- 13:08That's fine 'cause that's a
- 13:10political- 'Cause
- 13:10it, 'cause it fits the prompt … that fits, that fits what you would expect.
- 13:12So he not only subverted the expectation.
- 13:18He's like, "My girl, Tori Kelly." It's like, who are you talking about?"
- 13:22Oh my gosh, really quick.
- 13:23So one time, I, my… So Alek and I and our friend, uh, Drozell, we were
- 13:28driving and I don't remember exactly where we were, but they had gotten
- 13:32on the topic of, uh, Blake Lively.
- 13:34Oh.
- 13:34And I, I think this was before, like, all of the Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni drama.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39And they were talk- They were just swooning over her.
- 13:43And of course, like, I'm just hanging out in the backseat.
- 13:45Taylor Swift had just released Midnights- … like I'm jamming out to that.
- 13:49And, uh, oh, they were talking about Ryan Reynolds.
- 13:52Oh.
- 13:52And, like, how he's just got everything going, like his
- 13:55phone company and everything.
- 13:56And then Drozell goes, "And he's married to Blake Lively." And Alek
- 14:00goes, "Yeah." And Drozell turns back to me and he goes, "Shannan, you're
- 14:03great, too." And I'm like- You're great … it's kinda like what you said.
- 14:06You're like, I get it."
- 14:08Yeah.
- 14:08Yeah.
- 14:09I have a good personality.
- 14:11Honestly, if we had our personalities and we were that pretty-
- 14:15We would be unstoppable … it
- 14:16would be
- 14:17dangerous.
- 14:17God had to humble us.
- 14:18He did.
- 14:19But you are beautiful, so make no mistake.
- 14:21So are you.
- 14:21Make no mistake.
- 14:22We're all beautiful, and you're handsome, and this is great.
- 14:25Okay.
- 14:25All
- 14:25right.
- 14:25Thank you for indulging me.
- 14:27That was a-
- 14:29What an intro
- 14:30… I had high expectations, and we met them.
- 14:32Oh, good.
- 14:33Second question.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:34This is the high school bit.
- 14:36How many high school parties did you get invited to?
- 14:39I got invited to a whopping zero.
- 14:42I can remember one.
- 14:43One?
- 14:43And that was a birthday- Dinner, and then it was one of the…
- 14:50Like, I felt super cool though because it was- Okay … a birthday dinner
- 14:53where we all went out to Hot Springs.
- 14:56And then- Ooh … we did the whole thing where you go out in the
- 14:59middle of a field, and everybody puts their trucks in a circle-
- 15:03Oh … and you sit on the tailgate.
- 15:04And I had never, ever… This was, I was like, I think, a senior.
- 15:07Wow.
- 15:07And I was never invited to the parties.
- 15:09A, my parents would never have let me gone.
- 15:11B, I was simply too busy- Oh … involved in every single club-
- 15:15That's cool
- 15:16… thing, sport, church, whatever you could possibly do.
- 15:18I had zero free nights.
- 15:20Okay.
- 15:20But I was not getting invited anyway.
- 15:23But you knew everybody.
- 15:25Yeah, I was, like, tangentially popular.
- 15:28Okay.
- 15:28Like, there was the clique that was the, the it girls.
- 15:32Yeah.
- 15:32And I knew them.
- 15:33I was friends with them, but I was not one of.
- 15:35Okay.
- 15:35I see.
- 15:36Yeah.
- 15:37Yeah.
- 15:38What about you?
- 15:38Did you go to any high school parties?
- 15:41D- I mean, yeah, do birthday parties count?
- 15:43That's about- I wasn't, no- That's about, yeah
- 15:45I wouldn't
- 15:45count, like- Like a rager
- 15:45… like a rager Which, were they doing that?
- 15:47Out in Donaldson.
- 15:48Yeah.
- 15:48I, I mean, if, if they were, they didn't tell me.
- 15:51Yeah.
- 15:52So maybe that says something.
- 15:54Okay.
- 15:54But yeah out in, you know, Donaldson there wasn't really a lot of-
- 15:58Donaldson … a lot of that going on.
- 16:00Yeah, my graduating class was-
- 16:02about 26 people.
- 16:04So-
- 16:05What?
- 16:06Yeah.
- 16:0626? Yeah.
- 16:07How many was yours?
- 16:08Like, 600.
- 16:10Yeah, it was so easy.
- 16:11You could be invisible.
- 16:13It was easy, so easy to be
- 16:14invisible.
- 16:14Oh, yeah.
- 16:14I don't know … I got, I got, I got, uh, I did get valedictorian.
- 16:17You did?
- 16:18But I can't really brag about that 'cause it's just-
- 16:20Like, being … I
- 16:21only- What do you mean?
- 16:23The valedictorian- I only
- 16:24beat out like- … of your home
- 16:25school … 25 people.
- 16:26What was your ACT score?
- 16:26Oh, it's, it wasn't that good.
- 16:27Uh, the highest I ever got on that was 26.
- 16:29That's fine.
- 16:30But-
- 16:30What'd you
- 16:30get, Beth?
- 16:3131. What?
- 16:35What do you have to do to get the governor's scholarship?
- 16:36I don't know- 32 … 'cause I didn't get it
- 16:37I think I was like one point below.
- 16:39I took it a few times, like really trying to do it 'cause I wanted my schol- I
- 16:42wanted- Yeah … my school paid for it 'cause baby girl needed the dollars.
- 16:44And, um, I finally quit 'cause I was like, "You know, that's not
- 16:47gonna happen." You got a 30 then?
- 16:48And I was just shy of that.
- 16:49Oh my gosh.
- 16:49That's
- 16:50incredible.
- 16:50Thir- 30 or 31.
- 16:51I can't remember off the top of my head.
- 16:51How
- 16:51did you not get your school paid for?
- 16:53You say you didn't?
- 16:53I did.
- 16:54Okay.
- 16:55'Cause I'm gonna say out of 26, mine got paid for.
- 16:57Yeah, I did at the end of the
- 16:58day.
- 16:58Whoa.
- 16:58What school did you go to?
- 17:00Henderson.
- 17:01Oh, I should know that.
- 17:03What
- 17:04did you- Did you all meet… I don't know.
- 17:05I just feel like I should.
- 17:06We've been friends for like three years.
- 17:08I feel like I should know where we went to school.
- 17:10No, we met at, w- we were not in college at the same time,
- 17:13if that's what you were asking.
- 17:14That's right.
- 17:14Did we work at col- meet in college?
- 17:16I
- 17:16was about to ask that.
- 17:17We worked, uh, I had a summer job, and it was where he worked.
- 17:21Where was that?
- 17:21It
- 17:22was at a bank in the operations center.
- 17:23That's right.
- 17:24Okay.
- 17:24Perfect.
- 17:25Perfect.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:26Cool.
- 17:27So that was how we-
- 17:29Cute
- 17:29… came to be.
- 17:30Cute.
- 17:31Well, I got a 22 on my ACT.
- 17:33Yeah.
- 17:33I was the dumb, I was the dumb friend in high school.
- 17:35That's not dumb.
- 17:36It's not remedial, tell you that.
- 17:38Thank you for saying that.
- 17:39You didn't have to take developmental classes.
- 17:40I did not get my school paid for.
- 17:43Oh.
- 17:43But it's okay.
- 17:44All right.
- 17:44Well, that's what I brought to the club today, just some introspection.
- 17:47Yeah … you know, high school, what a time, and our crushes
- 17:51that didn't like us back.
- 17:53Okay, so Obsession.
- 17:55Let's set the scene really quickly here.
- 17:56So, you know, we talked about we don't really care about the,
- 18:00the director, although this guy, like, kinda came out of nowhere.
- 18:03This was like an indie film.
- 18:05Yeah, I think he's a YouTuber.
- 18:06That I think blew up.
- 18:06Yes, that's right.
- 18:07Yeah.
- 18:08Yeah.
- 18:08He was, he had a, a pretty popular channel, uh, over, I think
- 18:12it's called That's a Bad Idea.
- 18:14Okay.
- 18:14Uh, I was actually very familiar with it.
- 18:16Oh, okay.
- 18:16Like I said, I had seen a lot of them.
- 18:17And so- … whenever they released this movie, I, I wasn't surprised at all that,
- 18:21that it was well done because his YouTube videos were just always very well done.
- 18:25Okay.
- 18:25Okay.
- 18:26I hope he makes more movies.
- 18:28I think- A-
- 18:28absolutely
- 18:29you can see where there might be a a sequel.
- 18:30Yeah.
- 18:31Anyway, so, the main character, Bear or Barron he, first of all, he loses his cat,
- 18:38and it's just the most dramatic thing.
- 18:40Um, he is a part of this friend group.
- 18:43There's two guys, Barron, Ian- Mm-hmm … is that the dude's name?
- 18:47And then there is Sara and Katie.
- 18:50No.
- 18:50Nikki.
- 18:50Nikki.
- 18:51I don't know where Katie came from.
- 18:52They're a friend group.
- 18:53Bear likes Katie.
- 18:55Katie is obviously trying to friend zone him.
- 18:57He is a
- 19:01Just, I'm just gonna start- So ready … and say he's a pathetic dude.
- 19:03He is.
- 19:04He sucks- Like- … so bad.
- 19:05Yeah, gosh.
- 19:05Um, he makes a wish that she'll fall in love with him, and even with warnings,
- 19:10he does it anyway, and things just turn so badly so quickly, and it
- 19:16just ramps up right from the get-go.
- 19:19It is just a, the worst car accident that you cannot turn away
- 19:22from, and let's talk about it.
- 19:25I mean, I really, wh- when this movie ended, I looked at Beth and
- 19:28I was like, "We can't- … we can't talk about this-" Yeah … "yet."
- 19:31I thought this movie was fantastic.
- 19:33I truly loved it.
- 19:35Um- Although that was the fakest looking cat I've ever seen.
- 19:41I remember- Yes … like asking like, "What is that? What is that on the floor?"
- 19:45Yeah, I couldn't tell what it was until he had to say, "The cat died." 'Cause it
- 19:49looked like… And then I was like, oh.
- 19:52Now, the budget was small for this movie.
- 19:54Yes, it was.
- 19:54It was very small.
- 19:54And, yeah, they definitely saved some skrilla on the cat.
- 19:58Because it looked like they had gotten that thing from
- 19:59Toys R Us or I don't even know.
- 20:01That was a Goodwill.
- 20:02That
- 20:02was like a donated- Yeah … stuffed animal.
- 20:04Yeah.
- 20:04That was a well-loved stuffy from somebody.
- 20:08I don't know.
- 20:08You're right.
- 20:09Um, so first, yeah, like this, this cat got into some medication.
- 20:13Yeah.
- 20:13And I thought that was weird.
- 20:15I guess it was just like laying out for the cat to get.
- 20:18'Cause he was like, "How did you get this?" But it was his grandmother's old
- 20:23medication- Yeah … 'cause it was her, it was her house- I think so … that he
- 20:25was staying with her, taking care of her.
- 20:27And then she had like recently died-
- 20:30Yeah
- 20:30… or something- Mm-hmm
- 20:31and like left the house.
- 20:32Yeah, it was like a bunch of like hydros, which I thought was interesting.
- 20:36So yeah, I said that was red flag number one because he had…
- 20:40Well, and I guess that makes sense if it was his grandma's pills.
- 20:42I was like, is, are these his pills?
- 20:44Are like we stalk- I mean, that cabinet was full.
- 20:46Yeah.
- 20:47I assumed that they were his grandmother's pills because they had mentioned
- 20:51that she had just died not long ago.
- 20:54Yeah.
- 20:54And I just thought an older person probably has a lot of medicine.
- 20:57That's our future.
- 21:00Sadly.
- 21:00Yeah.
- 21:01Oh.
- 21:02Um, and so, you know, then they go out, and at first I thought, like
- 21:07this friend group is like very…
- 21:09Well, I guess it starts out with like a toxic friend group, right?
- 21:11Because Ian is like
- 21:13a piece of garbage from the get-go.
- 21:15He's terrible.
- 21:16And then later on you find out, like it gets even worse- Mm-hmm … how
- 21:20awful of a friend he is.
- 21:22Yeah.
- 21:23And the girl at the beginning, when they were at… Well, first of all,
- 21:27his friend, right, is trying to tell him, you basically cannot ask her out-
- 21:30Yeah
- 21:31because it's inconvenient for me for you to do it at trivia night.
- 21:34And like, are you even that good at trivia?
- 21:36Obviously not.
- 21:37They were not paying attention.
- 21:38They were just drinking.
- 21:39But we found out later, probably wasn't because of the trivia that
- 21:42he was telling him not to do that.
- 21:44And then the other girl, she was just there.
- 21:47There was nothing wrong with her.
- 21:48She was the only bearable-
- 21:50Yeah
- 21:50… character.
- 21:51But I thought, why is he obsessed with this Nikki girl, because
- 21:54she's actually- Not that great.
- 21:57No, she was a child.
- 21:59She was mean.
- 22:00Yeah, and so annoying.
- 22:01Yeah.
- 22:02But also it just… once you get to know, like once you watch him.
- 22:05'Cause I guess it starts out and you're like, "Okay, like, he's
- 22:08just, he's just a little off sync.
- 22:10Like his cat just died.
- 22:11Obviously his cat was like his bestie." I mean, after our dog died, I grieved,
- 22:16and grieved, and grieved for like months.
- 22:18Yes.
- 22:18So I'll give him that.
- 22:20But I- what also made me judge him was him getting a pina colada at the bar.
- 22:26I literally… Like, okay, so Beth and I were trying to take
- 22:28notes in this dark theater.
- 22:30Yeah.
- 22:30And that was like so hard.
- 22:32And so I've, I like wrote like all over my paper.
- 22:35I was like, "He would be a pina colada guy."
- 22:39Yeah, this young man- Was just- I don't know what kind of girl… I mean, that
- 22:44Sarah girl liked him too, but why?
- 22:47I don't know.
- 22:48I don't know what redeemable qualities he had.
- 22:50I get why Nikki and Ian were a thing, because I'm sure it
- 22:55was just purely a physical-
- 22:57Right
- 22:57an itch needs to be scratched.
- 22:58You're a person- Yeah … guess who is willing to do this- Right … with me.
- 23:01But-
- 23:06To actually like any of those people except for Sarah
- 23:10… poor, and like- I don't get it … she had, she had the most brutal-
- 23:14Whoa, yeah.
- 23:16That, literally- Ah … that scene, so I guess do we wanna talk about that
- 23:22now or like do more of the, the… I guess we can save that for later maybe.
- 23:27Yeah, maybe 'cause we have not even, the wish hasn't even been made yet- Yeah
- 23:30and I do not like
- 23:31anybody in the movie.
- 23:32Oh, yeah, in, in the store that he c- got the wish from.
- 23:34Yeah.
- 23:35Yeah, so he- Yeah … goes to the store.
- 23:36He's like looking for a crystal because Nikki lost her crystal,
- 23:40and like he gets one, and then it, like I thought it was kind of a,
- 23:44a, what's the word I'm looking for?
- 23:46Like, I would have been offended if I knew that he like was looking for
- 23:49a crystal for me and someone said, "Oh, it like emulates like sunshine."
- 23:53And he's like, "Oh, nope,
- 23:55that's not her." Yeah.
- 23:55You're like,
- 23:55" Oh, that's not her." They're like, "What is she to you?"
- 23:57So then he finds this weird-
- 23:58I mean, he wasn't wrong as it turns out.
- 24:01Yeah.
- 24:02But he doesn't even know, and that's the sad thing.
- 24:06So then he finds this one wish willow, which I had never…
- 24:09Is that like an actual thing?
- 24:11I don't think so.
- 24:12I don't think so.
- 24:12That's good.
- 24:13I think they, yeah, I think they just made that up.
- 24:14It should be now.
- 24:15You could probably sell a ton of them now.
- 24:16Oh, yeah, Spencer's will be, and Hot Topic will be sell- selling them.
- 24:20Is Spencer's still a thing?
- 24:22I don't know.
- 24:22I don't think I've ever been in one.
- 24:25I don't think I was allowed to, and so I was just always a full- Well, yeah.
- 24:28Yeah.
- 24:29Yeah.
- 24:29Yeah, you do see some things in there.
- 24:30I've only been in the front section, and then, you know, there's the back where
- 24:33they have like the really bad stuff.
- 24:34Okay.
- 24:34Yeah.
- 24:34Oh, I didn't even know about that.
- 24:36Oh,
- 24:36look at us.
- 24:36We're still
- 24:37kids.
- 24:37I'm talking about, I'm talking about the, I mean, there's stuff in the
- 24:39front of the store that's- There is stuff in the front, but I think-
- 24:40it's like, ooh … toward the
- 24:41back there's like more.
- 24:44Oh, okay, 'cause yeah- … you walk in there, you'll, you'll see some stuff.
- 24:47You'll go kind, "Eh, it's, I don't know if, uh, wanna be in here."
- 24:49It's real.
- 24:50Wait,
- 24:51you can really buy one?
- 24:52The magic willow?
- 24:52You can get three for $10 at Walmart.
- 24:55What?
- 24:57At Walmart.
- 24:58Do they come with a warning?
- 25:02Let's look at the list again.
- 25:02Is it edible?
- 25:03Is it like a candy version?
- 25:04Ugh.
- 25:05One Wish Willow Wish Making Snap Stick.
- 25:07Fun party novelty gift.
- 25:09Ancient legend replica for all ages.
- 25:12Oh.
- 25:14Okay, let's-
- 25:14Okay, well now I'm kinda wondering was that because of the movie or
- 25:17did that exist before the movie?
- 25:18I don't know, but I want one.
- 25:20Well, what, does it, does it look like what it looked like in the movie?
- 25:22No, not qui- Well, I don't know.
- 25:25That movie was so dark.
- 25:26So is this like today's pet rock where it's someone selling sticks?
- 25:30And just say you break a stick and- Oh … make a wish.
- 25:34Maybe it is.
- 25:35Did it look like that in the movie?
- 25:37Yeah.
- 25:38Yeah, it did.
- 25:39Okay.
- 25:39Let's see.
- 25:40I don't think it has the little thing that plays music when you pull it out the box.
- 25:43That mu- that music was really creepy too.
- 25:47Like that it plays whenever he like pulls it out.
- 25:49Mm-hmm.
- 25:49And how much is it just for three of them?
- 25:51She said $10.
- 25:51$10.
- 25:52That's a bargain.
- 25:53Yeah.
- 25:54We should get it and do it on-
- 25:56Well, there are three of us.
- 25:57Yeah.
- 25:57Ooh.
- 25:57We should each wish for something.
- 25:59What would you wish for?
- 26:01I mean-
- 26:01I guess it's not like something where you can't be like, "Oh, don't
- 26:03tell me 'cause it won't come true."
- 26:04Right, you gotta say it out loud.
- 26:06But I don't know because it's gonna go wrong no matter what you wish for.
- 26:10Well, I don't know.
- 26:10That one guy, I mean, he wished for a billion dollars
- 26:12and just fell out the ceiling.
- 26:13Oh yeah, and then he got shot in the face like shortly afterwards.
- 26:15Okay, but that wasn't because of the billion dollars.
- 26:18I think it just didn't have time to go bad because when I was watching it, have y'all
- 26:24ever read the story The Monkey's Paw?
- 26:26No.
- 26:27So I was like this reminds me of that.
- 26:30When you make a wish it goes poorly.
- 26:33Like you get what you want, but like a be careful what you wish for kinda thing.
- 26:35Okay.
- 26:36And I was looking up the movie.
- 26:38This guy got the idea for the story watching a Simpsons episode
- 26:42that was based off of that story.
- 26:43So in that- Oh, okay … it's a short story, and I used to teach it to my
- 26:47students around every October time, and they were very disturbed by it.
- 26:50It was a always a good time.
- 26:52So this, pe- these people, they get a monkey's paw.
- 26:56They come by it somehow, I can't remember how, maybe at a dinner
- 26:58party or whatever, and the family, or the man and the wife, they wish for
- 27:03money, like a certain amount of money.
- 27:06And then they get a call that their son has been killed in a factory
- 27:13accident, and the company pays them that exact money in compensation.
- 27:17And so it's like, oh, this is what you traded to get your wish, essentially.
- 27:21Nice.
- 27:21So you got what you wanted- … but at what cost?
- 27:24And so then you get three wishes on the monkey's paw.
- 27:27So the wife grabs it and is like, "I wish for my son back."
- 27:30And so the dad is terrified that he's gonna come back, 'cause he was,
- 27:35like, caught in factory equipment.
- 27:36Oh.
- 27:36He was like, "He's gonna come back as he was, like, mangled. He's not
- 27:39gonna be our son that we knew."
- 27:41Oh.
- 27:41In the middle of the night- Gosh … there's banging starts at their door.
- 27:45And she goes to start opening the door, and the very last second he
- 27:49grabs the monkey's paw and he wishes for whatever's at the door to go away-
- 27:52Oh
- 27:52right before she opens the door, 'cause he's trying to save her from that.
- 27:55Yeah.
- 27:56And that's how the story ends.
- 27:57But it's like-
- 27:58That's heartbreaking,
- 27:58though … you, you get what you want.
- 27:59That is so
- 28:00scary.
- 28:00Yeah.
- 28:01But what would have happened?
- 28:02'Cause all that money just fell out of the sky.
- 28:03But, like- Yeah … would the police have then shown up and been like,
- 28:06"How'd you get all this money?"
- 28:07Yeah.
- 28:07I
- 28:08don't
- 28:08know.
- 28:08That is very eerie.
- 28:09Is… Okay, so that's not like, that's not like Stephen King's The Monkey,
- 28:14'cause I think that's a horror movie.
- 28:15I don't think I know that story.
- 28:16I don't know it either, but it's like a, it's like a newer movie.
- 28:19It looks… I think I've talked to you about it.
- 28:21I'm, like, intrigued about it- Mm-hmm … but it looks so gory,
- 28:23I don't know if I could handle it.
- 28:25Is that the one where there's the monkey up in the closet, the little
- 28:27one that- Yes … has the cymbals over- Yeah … the image, I recall,
- 28:31but I don't remember anything about-
- 28:32Okay … the movie So prob- so possibly not.
- 28:34I thought it was interesting, too, though, like the snapping of the twig.
- 28:37Have y'all seen Weapons?
- 28:39Yes.
- 28:39Oh,
- 28:40yeah.
- 28:40It reminded me of that.
- 28:41It kind of- which I like that movie.
- 28:43That was good.
- 28:43So yeah, so he wishes, he makes this wish.
- 28:45He, well, first of all, he, like… I guess his one redeemable quality is that
- 28:50he did not, at the start, take advantage of Nikki, because she was, I think,
- 28:56right, because he, like, took her home, and I think she was a little tipsy.
- 29:00And at first… So he makes the wish, then she's, like, trying to get him to
- 29:04come inside and he's like, "No, no, no."
- 29:06So for a second I'm like, okay.
- 29:08Is that because he's a good guy or because he's weak?
- 29:11Probably because he's weak.
- 29:12Because- Because she straight up opened the door for that conversation.
- 29:16She said he was sitting there thinking, "How am I gonna tell her? I'm scared. Ah."
- 29:21Yeah.
- 29:21And then she's like, "If you like me, you better tell me.
- 29:23You should just tell me now." And he's like, "No, I don't know what
- 29:27I'm talking about." We're friends.
- 29:28And then, so instead of just saying,
- 29:30" Yeah,
- 29:30I do like you," he chooses to make this dumb wish- Yeah
- 29:34and ruin everybody's life because he's a weak little pansy boy.
- 29:38Yeah.
- 29:38And he just did it so quick.
- 29:40I
- 29:40can't stand this character.
- 29:40No, he was terrible.
- 29:41He was terrible.
- 29:41He was awful.
- 29:43And he just, like, wasn't that attractive either.
- 29:45I'm sorry.
- 29:46I'm
- 29:46just gonna say it.
- 29:46Nothing.
- 29:46Yeah.
- 29:46No good qualities- No … this, this boy.
- 29:48And, like, the ugly sweaters that he wore, I hated that.
- 29:51What even was… And did you see how dirty his socks were in the bed?
- 29:54I made a note of that.
- 29:56I literally made a note of that.
- 29:58It- I said, "His dirty white socks."
- 30:00Did you walk through the litter box, young man?
- 30:04Probably.
- 30:04Okay, can we talk about, though, for a second, too, like the mask that
- 30:09he had on his face when he was, like cleaning up the cat, like the dead cat.
- 30:13Yeah.
- 30:13He had like a gas mask on.
- 30:16Did he really?
- 30:17And I'm like-
- 30:18I didn't notice
- 30:18that … what is this about?
- 30:19Like, just, I mean, it's bleach.
- 30:21It has a smell, but you don't need this mask.
- 30:24I'm telling you, he's a weak man.
- 30:26That was really- If
- 30:26you can't wipe up some cat pee-
- 30:27I don't even remember.
- 30:28It's just like…
- 30:28Maybe it was like a respirator maybe.
- 30:30May- maybe he has asthma.
- 30:32Maybe.
- 30:32Did he have asthma?
- 30:33I don't…
- 30:34I'm just, I'm trying to give this boy the benefit of the doubt.
- 30:35Are we getting, we getting… Oh, okay.
- 30:35I didn't know if we were getting science contentious.
- 30:37I'm trying to not be- Oh, baby … so disrespectful about this fictional
- 30:41character, but I have nothing good to say.
- 30:43That's okay.
- 30:44So I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
- 30:45I mean, there's not much.
- 30:46No.
- 30:47There's really not much.
- 30:47He's bad.
- 30:48Anyway, so as soon as he makes that wish, you know, like I loved how
- 30:51they used like the silhouettes-
- 30:53Mm-hmm
- 30:54… in this movie, because you can just see her standing there, like on her porch, and
- 31:00then she walks up and just immediately…
- 31:03And it's weird, 'cause you can like tell that there's like… So I watched
- 31:06a commentary where there's like the real Nicky, and then there's freaky Nicky.
- 31:10Yeah.
- 31:10And like freaky Nicky is like who this Nicky is now after he's made this wish,
- 31:14and you can tell there's like that inward struggle between like the two entities.
- 31:19Like they're almost like two people in one.
- 31:20And like the first like really good jump scare for me was whenever…
- 31:25So like he makes this wish.
- 31:26She comes home with him, because she's like, "My dad's like sick, and I'm
- 31:29just really upset about it." And, um, then they start making out, and then
- 31:34she like freaks out out of nowhere.
- 31:36Yeah.
- 31:37That scared me so bad, and it's, like that's the first time that
- 31:41you're like, "Okay, like this is, this is not consensual."
- 31:46Yeah.
- 31:47And it just gets so much worse from there, and there's just
- 31:51like that, that inward struggle.
- 31:54And I think, isn't it like the next day he's like… Oh, no,
- 31:57maybe, when is it that he's like, "No more weird stuff, okay"?
- 32:02I think it was that, because wasn't that the night that she was in the corner?
- 32:06He woke up and she was in the corner.
- 32:07Oh, maybe.
- 32:08And I'm getting chills just thinking about that.
- 32:10That,
- 32:10yes.
- 32:10That
- 32:11was creepy.
- 32:11That was creepy.
- 32:11That
- 32:12was so
- 32:12creepy.
- 32:12And
- 32:13like how her face like distorts a little bit.
- 32:15The makeup was so cool.
- 32:17Yeah.
- 32:18I've seen people do it the they'll do a version of it.
- 32:20So they'll kinda draw their mouth out, and then you dim the light,
- 32:23and your whole- Ooh … you know, just the power of makeup.
- 32:26I just like that.
- 32:26It was so creepy.
- 32:27Yeah.
- 32:27Plus the way she was moving.
- 32:29Yeah.
- 32:29And that was just her.
- 32:30That wasn't any-
- 32:31Yeah
- 32:31like
- 32:32CG or anything like that.
- 32:33But that's also like that like Nicky and freaky Nicky are like battling each other.
- 32:39Yeah.
- 32:40Mm. And she comes out of it just a couple of times in there really quick, but
- 32:44she's like, "It's not me. It's not me."
- 32:45Yeah.
- 32:46Yeah.
- 32:46Like when she smashed the bottle in her face and the, The pictures-
- 32:50Yes
- 32:50that she gave him, there was one of just him, and he was looking through them la-
- 32:55or maybe it was on the couch the next day.
- 32:57I think it's, like, whenever she packed his lunch.
- 33:00There was that, or maybe it was both the times, but there
- 33:03was one of the two of them.
- 33:04There was one of just him, and it had his name on it, and then there
- 33:07was the next one was the one of the two of them together, and on
- 33:10it, under her, it said, "Not me."
- 33:12Yeah.
- 33:13I did not catch that.
- 33:14Yeah.
- 33:14Yeah.
- 33:15I had to watch a commentary on it to catch that, 'cause at first I didn't.
- 33:19' Cause I caught it in the middle of the movie, and I was like, "What?" 'Cause
- 33:22i- they don't explicitly ex- and I was like- Yeah … is she it's not fully…
- 33:27I thought maybe it takes a while for it to fully take control of her.
- 33:30I was like, is she coming in and out of it?
- 33:32It doesn't have full power over her yet or something, and then it's turned
- 33:36out she was there the whole time.
- 33:38Yeah.
- 33:38She just, there were small openings for the real her to come out, which
- 33:43honestly was more upsetting and saddening- Yeah … because it's not
- 33:49like she wasn't there anymore, completely unaware of the surrounding- Right
- 33:52which I think is different than a lot of the ways that people do a love wish.
- 33:56Like, oh, that just completely changes their want for you.
- 34:00Like, no, she did not want this.
- 34:02Right.
- 34:02She wanted to die.
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:04Yes.
- 34:04That's true.
- 34:05And how embarrassing someone would rather die than be with you.
- 34:07Well, and then he's "Is this real?
- 34:10What's so bad wi- about being with me?" I'm like, "You deserve everything that
- 34:14is coming to you, my friend." Yeah.
- 34:16That, I just, I hated him so much, and it's like he had, he… It's
- 34:21like one scene he would be… And I'm not, like, dogging the movie at all.
- 34:25Like, it was fantastic, but, like, he was just like one scene he was
- 34:28like, "I just don't know what to do.
- 34:30Like, she's crazy." And then flash forward and they're having a good time.
- 34:33They're doing some laundry together.
- 34:35Oh.
- 34:35You know what I mean?
- 34:36Yeah.
- 34:36And I'm like, bro, you know that something… Like, how are you
- 34:40still- Mm-hmm … involved in this?
- 34:42Another thing that, like, made my skin crawl, and I think it's, like, whenever
- 34:45he's like, "Hey, Nikki, no more weird stuff," and then he turns to leave,
- 34:49and she has duct-taped the inside- Yes
- 34:53of his door shut so that, like, he can't leave, and he just-
- 34:56He just tries to casually open it.
- 34:59He's like, "Okay."
- 34:59He, like, puts his leg, like, on the doorframe- … and just yanks it.
- 35:04But no more ne- no more weird stuff.
- 35:07Yeah, and also- Okay, your girlfriend, you have to have a whole
- 35:12conversation about your girlfriend.
- 35:14Hey, Nicky, no more weird stuff.
- 35:16Yeah.
- 35:16'Cause you're acting like a-
- 35:17A psycho
- 35:17… lunatic.
- 35:18Yeah.
- 35:19She packs you lunch.
- 35:20Oh.
- 35:21And you get this gray mystery meat, and you got no questions.
- 35:26No questions.
- 35:28You're just eating it blindly.
- 35:28And I think, like, Sarah even is like, "What is that smell?"
- 35:32Yeah, it's like, "What's that?"
- 35:32Like, "That smells awful." And then, like, as soon as he started eating it… Oh,
- 35:37maybe it was, like, when he got that note.
- 35:39Yes.
- 35:39' Cause, like, he's like, "Oh, I wanna be a food critic." Okay, bro.
- 35:43Basically- Get over it … 'cause so he could get free food.
- 35:46You freaking freeloader.
- 35:47You have no discernible skills in life.
- 35:49Yeah, you're working at a music store.
- 35:50Oh, that makes sense, 'cause he's, he's wanting to freeload food, and
- 35:53he's also wanting to freeload love.
- 35:54I guess so.
- 35:55He's a freeloader.
- 35:55He wants everything to come easy.
- 35:56Microwave society.
- 35:58Yeah, here we go.
- 35:58This is the problem, kids.
- 35:59The problem with the with
- 36:01the- This is why-
- 36:02You gotta, you gotta earn
- 36:02it
- 36:03America.
- 36:03This is why participation trophies are bad.
- 36:05Oh, except for mine.
- 36:09Moving on.
- 36:11Yeah, that was insane.
- 36:13And then can we just talk about… Okay, so what is happening with Nicky?
- 36:18So whenever he leaves to go to work, and she just stands there, right?
- 36:20And she pees herself, which how… I felt really sad for her whenever that happened.
- 36:25Yeah.
- 36:25But then, like, she, he comes back and she's wet.
- 36:29All, all over?
- 36:29All over.
- 36:31Was she sweating?
- 36:32Well, she had thrown up too.
- 36:33So
- 36:33that's what it was.
- 36:34She had thrown up?
- 36:35Yeah, she was like, she it looked like she had, like, every
- 36:38possible problem you could have.
- 36:42While he was gone.
- 36:43She had had, 'cause she couldn't move.
- 36:45Yeah.
- 36:46And I don't know why she would've thrown up, but she did have, like, a
- 36:49discoloration on the front of her shirt.
- 36:51Yeah.
- 36:51And I assumed that she threw up too.
- 36:53She- Well, didn't she have some on her chin?
- 36:54She might… Yeah.
- 36:55She had stuff- She had stuff on her face too, so- … so … I don't know
- 36:57if she tried to make herself or…
- 37:01'Cause you know, sometimes I don't know, but, like, sometimes people who are in
- 37:05abusive situations will try to, like, make themselves unappealing to a person.
- 37:10Oh.
- 37:10So that sometimes you'll see, like- Right … bedwetting or whatever like that.
- 37:14So I don't know, maybe her on the inside was like, "Well, I can't move, so
- 37:18I'll just make myself be super gross."
- 37:20Oh, maybe.
- 37:20I don't know.
- 37:21Maybe.
- 37:22'Cause she, like, throws up a couple of times.
- 37:24Mm-hmm.
- 37:24And, like, towards the end of the movie, I thought she looks like
- 37:26she's, like, literally rotting.
- 37:29Yeah, she
- 37:30was- Like, she, like, looked gray
- 37:31… gaunt.
- 37:32She looked really bad.
- 37:33Yeah.
- 37:33So I wonder what that's all about.
- 37:35Yeah.
- 37:36I also thought it was super eerie, like, whenever he makes that phone
- 37:39call, like he looks at the number on the back of the box, and he's, like,
- 37:43trying to undo it, which I don't know if you knew this, but that's the, when…
- 37:46Like, the guy on the phone-
- 37:48Director … is, is the director.
- 37:49Yeah.
- 37:49Oh, no, I didn't know that.
- 37:50So that was kind of like a cool little cameo.
- 37:52But he's like, "You could just die." Yeah.
- 37:55Like, just so nonchalant about it.
- 37:57Yeah.
- 37:57And then it was so creepy whenever he's like, "Well, Nikki's right
- 38:01here. Do you wanna talk to her?"
- 38:02And she's just screaming, and it's like that is, like, her… That's,
- 38:06like, her internal thoughts is just, like, is just this horror,
- 38:11screaming, like she's trapped.
- 38:12Mm-hmm.
- 38:12It's… It would be like a permanent sleep paralysis.
- 38:17Yeah.
- 38:17Kinda.
- 38:18But, like- But you're up and moving and you're talking, but like
- 38:21you can't do anything about it.
- 38:23Mm-hmm.
- 38:23Like, your body's not your own.
- 38:25You have your thoughts, but yeah, that would be so terrible.
- 38:28That's a, I, it's, I don't know if it's an unrealistic fear, but
- 38:32it's probably not going to happen.
- 38:33But it has always been a fear of mine to be in a situation where I
- 38:38cannot communicate and I know that something is about to hurt me.
- 38:42What's that, is it a Metallica video?
- 38:43One?
- 38:44Where the guy's like, where he's on the table, can't, and
- 38:47he's aware of everything, but they're about to operate on him.
- 38:50Oh.
- 38:52I have no idea.
- 38:54Is that,
- 38:55is that a Metallica video?
- 38:55As a Metallica fan, I have no idea.
- 38:55I mean, I
- 38:56never saw any of the music videos.
- 38:57Oh.
- 38:58Maybe that's not what's happening there.
- 38:59I just always thought that that's what it was.
- 39:00But like, I always have this, have had this thought in the back of my head
- 39:05of what would happen if I could not move, I couldn't speak, I couldn't
- 39:08blink, I couldn't communicate at all.
- 39:10And I know they're about to like- Cut you open … hack into me for something.
- 39:13Can I go on a quick little… Yeah.
- 39:16That just reminds me, okay, so whenever I worked at the GI lab, there was one day we
- 39:20were in a procedure and the CRNA was like, playing like, weird like, jazz music.
- 39:27'Cause like, you know, we listen to music all day, and he was
- 39:29talking about it, he's like, "Man, we need like, candles everywhere.
- 39:32You know, make this like a spa." And of course, like, patient's asleep, right?
- 39:36Yeah.
- 39:37And the physician that I was working with was like, going, "How's the pressure?"
- 39:41Like, he was like, massaging, you know?
- 39:44And the patient goes, "Me?" We were like, "Oh, no." And you see the CRNA
- 39:51just like, quickly like, drawing up his propofol and just like, pushing it.
- 39:56And we were like- Like,
- 39:56you were not supposed to hear that.
- 39:59Yes.
- 39:59Luckily, you know, he did, he did remember.
- 40:02Yeah.
- 40:02But
- 40:03I
- 40:03just will never forget that he goes- … "Who, me?"
- 40:08So funny.
- 40:08Oh.
- 40:08So in a way, he recognized your fear.
- 40:11I had written it down and I just think it was funny.
- 40:13We've already kinda gone past it, but so like, this is whenever Nikki was like,
- 40:17sitting in the corner watching him sleep.
- 40:19Yeah.
- 40:19And she goes, "I like watching you sleep." And I was like, "Which is
- 40:22worse, freaky Nikki or Edward Cullen?"
- 40:25Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:27That- That whole scene was so intense.
- 40:32Yeah.
- 40:32And that was, like, toward the beginning.
- 40:34And it only… It did not s- let up from there.
- 40:37It really didn't.
- 40:38Ever.
- 40:38That is, like… So I've seen this meme, which it…
- 40:42Like, I relate to it, so it's- it's so true.
- 40:44But it's, like, me waking up in the middle of the night, and you
- 40:47see, like, a, an outline of, like, a ghost figure standing there.
- 40:50And then the person's like, "Shh, don't wake the baby.
- 40:54Don't wake the baby." And then he's like, "Okay." And he, like, goes back to sleep.
- 40:56So it's like he'd rather, like, see a ghost standing overhead
- 40:58than- Than wake up a baby
- 40:59the baby waking up.
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:01I'm like, I get that.
- 41:02But-
- 41:03Oh.
- 41:03Yeah, that.
- 41:04And, like, and then, like, whenever she… I don't remember exactly.
- 41:08It's, like, in the middle of the night, and, um, she's, like, holding this,
- 41:12like, the flowers in front of her face.
- 41:15Yeah.
- 41:15And she's just, like, holding it, and then she just goes, "For
- 41:17Sandy," which is the- the dead cat.
- 41:20Yeah.
- 41:20She was really obsessed with this cat.
- 41:21And I saw a couple of theories that were like, "Is she, like,
- 41:25the cat reincarnated?" And I thought that was interesting.
- 41:29She was really-
- 41:29She did have a lot to say about the cat.
- 41:31I mean, the cat kept coming up.
- 41:33The cat was a constant-
- 41:34Which was just weird
- 41:35… aspect
- 41:35here.
- 41:35That's interesting.
- 41:37Yeah.
- 41:37I don't know.
- 41:38Ian freaking died unceremoniously, and I was okay with that.
- 41:44I… Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny.
- 41:46I mean, at least it was quick.
- 41:48I would've been okay if it wasn't.
- 41:52Maybe wet socks?
- 41:53Wet socks perpetually- Ah, yes … for that man.
- 41:57Yes.
- 41:57Yes.
- 41:58I did love how he was like, "I wish for a billion dollars."
- 42:03I mean, that was- Honestly … I don't know if I would've ever thought of that
- 42:06Oh, that's one of the first things I would think of.
- 42:08Oh, really?
- 42:09Yeah.
- 42:09But your friend, you say you're, they're your friend, is on their knees
- 42:14in front of you- Yeah … "I just need you to help me fix this. You are the
- 42:18only person who can help me do this."
- 42:21Oh, like a billion dollars, and then you ruin everything.
- 42:23Yeah.
- 42:24Do you think-
- 42:26I think he thought it was fake.
- 42:27Well, yeah.
- 42:28But I wonder if he'd actually wished for… 'Cause what was it?
- 42:31He was, like, wishing that Nikki wouldn't love him anymore?
- 42:35I think- I think so.
- 42:37Yes.
- 42:38Yeah.
- 42:38I wonder how that would've backfired.
- 42:40I mean, I think every single one of these wishes backfire.
- 42:43Yeah.
- 42:44I think they would eventually.
- 42:46Yeah.
- 42:46Um-
- 42:46What I wanna, wanna see- Mm-hmm … is, which obviously you
- 42:50can't now, but she clearly wished for him to be in love with her.
- 42:56Yes.
- 42:56So what would that look like- Oh, we're about to have a Luna
- 42:58sighting … where you have two people who wished for each other.
- 43:03Mm-hmm.
- 43:04Like, what, what would that look like
- 43:05if we- Just obsession on both-
- 43:06Yeah, obsession on both ends
- 43:08sides.
- 43:08They would probably both just die and waste away, 'cause they
- 43:11couldn't get anything done.
- 43:13They would be homeless and, but happy I guess, 'cause they'd be together.
- 43:19Luna.
- 43:20Um, I don't know.
- 43:22' Cause that was kinda crazy how that went down, how-
- 43:27It- … the timing and everything
- 43:28I thought that was excellent-
- 43:30Oh, yeah
- 43:30at first.
- 43:30Yeah.
- 43:31' Cause… And I, yeah, like, the snap, and then you can see his whole face
- 43:35change, and I was like . But then I thought, "Well, would this be okay?"
- 43:44Um, probably not I mean, he would probably be miserable, which again- That's what he
- 43:49deserved … for me, I'm cool with that.
- 43:51He had it coming.
- 43:51But she would've never been freed.
- 43:52Oh yeah, 'cause he would've- Yeah … then also have been imprisoned in his own body.
- 43:55Yeah.
- 43:56But that's
- 43:56what he wanted.
- 43:57Yeah.
- 43:57Technically, yeah, he wanted to be with her.
- 43:59Well- but then he wanted away from her.
- 44:01Yeah And then he would've been stuck with her, the crazy version.
- 44:04Yeah.
- 44:04So deep down- But he- … he would've been miserable, and she would've been miserable
- 44:08But then outwardly they're just both-
- 44:10Obsessed with each other
- 44:12yeah.
- 44:13Wow.
- 44:14Interesting.
- 44:14I would like to know, if there is a sequel, I truly hope it is
- 44:17an immediate follow-up because-
- 44:19Right?
- 44:19What happened to her?
- 44:20… you, how do… Okay, young lady, you're on the couch, bodies at your feet.
- 44:26There's this young girl with her whole face just gone.
- 44:31Yeah, and she's naked.
- 44:33Yeah, she didn't have to do all of that.
- 44:35She really didn't.
- 44:35She's like, "I'll take care of the body."
- 44:37Yeah I don't know, on display in the kitchen.
- 44:40Like a weird shrine to her.
- 44:41Very weird.
- 44:43And then you have to what, call the police and say, "It was a toy."
- 44:48Yeah.
- 44:48" Hear me out." Hear me out.
- 44:50"This is what happened."
- 44:51But do you think that she, like, once she came out of it, do you
- 44:54think she would've remembered?
- 44:55Like, do you think she knew what she did?
- 44:58I think she watched, I think, I mean, I think she was forced,
- 45:00since she could see and hear and-
- 45:02Yeah
- 45:02… be a part of everything.
- 45:03I think she probably witnessed the whole thing, and how
- 45:05terrifying- Yeah … is that?
- 45:06She did, because when, before, right before he went to go visit Sarah
- 45:10in the park, and he was walking out the door, and she was like, "Bear."
- 45:14And she said, "Kill me." Yes.
- 45:15"Please kill me. It's asleep." So she knew when it was in control and when it wasn't.
- 45:19Yeah.
- 45:19She was basically, like, asking, "There's a window where you
- 45:23could put me out of my misery."
- 45:25" If you really cared about me, you could."
- 45:26Yeah.
- 45:27But he didn't.
- 45:28' Cause he's a coward.
- 45:29And then he went, and he's the reason that Sarah never got to go to art school.
- 45:33Ugh, and how sad was that she got in?
- 45:35And I just think about her poor dad.
- 45:36Mm-hmm.
- 45:37He's gonna be so upset, like, whenever he figures out what happened to her.
- 45:40Yeah.
- 45:40That scene and… Oh.
- 45:42Everything's fine.
- 45:43Everything's fine.
- 45:45Remember, this, my house is not a recording studio, everybody Luna
- 45:48is just, she's running amuck.
- 45:49Oh, was that Luna?
- 45:50I imagine that was Luna.
- 45:52That scene in the car, I think it got- You knew it was coming.
- 45:57I did, yeah.
- 45:57I mean, you know it's going too well.
- 46:00Yeah.
- 46:01The conversation is too positive.
- 46:03Things, things are about to hit the fan.
- 46:04Oh, yeah.
- 46:06And you can guess what it was.
- 46:08Like, it… I think everybody was anticipating it, but when it happened,
- 46:11I think it still got the whole theater.
- 46:13I audibly screamed-
- 46:15Yeah
- 46:15… whenever it happened.
- 46:16Yeah.
- 46:16It hap- 'cause it's so fast.
- 46:18Yeah.
- 46:18I'm like, how did I know it was coming?
- 46:21And it-
- 46:21And it still got me.
- 46:22That is a good jump scare.
- 46:24Yeah, it is.
- 46:24Like, when you know it's coming, but it still gets you that bad.
- 46:27And I mean, it was just like, it was the whole thing and, like, the sound that-
- 46:31like, her poor face makes.
- 46:32That was
- 46:32brutal.
- 46:33And it's like, when it's, like, so obviously overkill-
- 46:37Yeah
- 46:37… like, she, she been dead probably f- second or third hit.
- 46:40Uh-huh.
- 46:41And then you just keep going.
- 46:43And then she's like, "Bear, this was your fault."
- 46:46Technically not wrong.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:47That's true.
- 46:48At first, I didn't like Sarah, and then of course, you know,
- 46:51she's like, she grew on me.
- 46:52And I can't tell you why I didn't like her.
- 46:53I think just because, like, the whole friend group I didn't like.
- 46:56Mm-hmm.
- 46:56But I really felt sad for her whenever that happened.
- 46:59Yeah.
- 47:00And then she's like, "You're gonna have to I need help, but then I'll
- 47:03take it from here," and then yeah, she just shows up in the house.
- 47:08And then, like, freaky Nikki does, like, that weird, like, ki- almost like a doll.
- 47:12She, like, looks like a doll, 'cause, like, her arms are kind of out.
- 47:15Yeah.
- 47:15Walk behind her.
- 47:16That was, that whole thing was so creepy.
- 47:19It was.
- 47:20I don't know how she moved like that.
- 47:22I don't wanna watch it again because that specific part
- 47:25because it was so freaky and that.
- 47:26Yeah.
- 47:27But I wanna watch it again to analyze it.
- 47:29I know.
- 47:29I really, if there is a two-hour or there, if there's, like, the director's
- 47:33cut, I think I do wanna see it.
- 47:34Yeah.
- 47:36I think I need more.
- 47:38Um.
- 47:38Uh, I do-
- 47:40Forgot anything
- 47:40… wonder how quickly you would die from taking all of those pain medications.
- 47:46I don't feel like it would've been that fast, but-
- 47:48I don't think they had time to digest, yeah-
- 47:49Movie magic
- 47:49even break
- 47:49down.
- 47:50That's okay.
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:52But just, like- the guy's like, "Well, you can die, and that will break the curse."
- 47:58And then, yeah, that's what he did.
- 47:59Yeah.
- 48:00But- Did you also see… I don't remember.
- 48:02It m- it was either a note.
- 48:05I had written it down, and I don't even remember what part of the
- 48:07movie it is, because our notes, you know, they had to be so-
- 48:11At one point I looked over-
- 48:12So difficult
- 48:12I think,
- 48:13it cracked me up, because I think it was, like, when Sarah had just been killed,
- 48:16and I look over at you, and, like, I saw, like, your phone flashlight- … and
- 48:18you were just, like, scribbling away.
- 48:20Well, yeah, 'cause the phone light only stays on for, like, five seconds, and so
- 48:25I'm, like, trying to write as many words as I can with the little bit of light.
- 48:28'Cause I don't wanna blow up the whole theater with my flashlight coming on.
- 48:32Yeah.
- 48:32So poor Chris and Mark were sitting on either side of me,
- 48:35so I was, like, trying to be-
- 48:37Yeah
- 48:37… you know, inconspicuous about it, and I had literally just written, "I hope
- 48:42Sarah lives," and then- … s- she gone.
- 48:45Yikes.
- 48:45But there was a part earlier in the movie, I wrote down a note.
- 48:50It was either a note or on one of the pictures, where she had written, where
- 48:55Nikki had written, "I want to wear your skin as a sweater." Did anybody see that?
- 48:59I don't remember that.
- 49:00I don't remember seeing that.
- 49:01Whoa.
- 49:02Yeah.
- 49:02I think he had one of those dorky sweaters on maybe in a
- 49:04picture or something like that.
- 49:05I don't think… If I made that up, be scared of me,
- 49:08because I saw that somewhere.
- 49:10I don't remember what part, but it said, "I wanna wear your skin
- 49:14as a sc- as a sweater." Ooh.
- 49:15And we just glazed on right over that.
- 49:16We did.
- 49:17And he kept going back to her, and then he's like, "Is this
- 49:20real?" What is, what was the guy, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy?
- 49:24Leatherface?
- 49:24Leatherface?
- 49:25Yeah.
- 49:26That reminds me of Leatherface.
- 49:28eat like the, like the skin suit.
- 49:30You know, like he would kill somebody.
- 49:33Well, Leatherface did wear people's skin on their face-
- 49:35Yeah … but he didn't really talk.
- 49:37Well, did he not talk?
- 49:39No.
- 49:40You know he was real?
- 49:41Yes.
- 49:42I've seen his a piece of skin.
- 49:45You've seen it?
- 49:46Yeah.
- 49:46In person?
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:48At the Zach Bagans-
- 49:50Museum?
- 49:50… museum.
- 49:50Oh my gosh, I need to go there.
- 49:52And the big I was gonna say cauldron, but like- That's what, that's
- 49:54what it is … vat, that, they, he would drain people's bodies into.
- 49:57What was it?
- 49:58Was it a lampshade?
- 49:59Was it the belt?
- 50:00So they had, I think, replica of the lampshade or whatever, but the skin
- 50:04was just like framed on the wall.
- 50:06Now it wasn't, it wasn't a piece, it wouldn't a victim, like-
- 50:08It wasn't?
- 50:09No.
- 50:09Oh.
- 50:10Oh.
- 50:10No, it was-
- 50:10Well now I'm disappointed
- 50:11… it was… Yeah, no, it was-
- 50:13How crazy is that?
- 50:14Oh, goodness.
- 50:14It
- 50:14wasn't- It was-
- 50:15… someone's actual skin?
- 50:15I want my money back.
- 50:15No, no, it was- Sorry.
- 50:18It was someone's actual skin.
- 50:20What?
- 50:21It just wasn't-
- 50:22One of his victims
- 50:23… one, one of his victims.
- 50:24It was- Well then-
- 50:24Who's just donating a big s- slab of their skin?
- 50:27I have no idea.
- 50:28If you donate your body to science, is that what they do with you?
- 50:30Yeah, they give you over to Zach Bagans.
- 50:32They sell you to Zach Bagans.
- 50:34I wouldn't be surprised.
- 50:35He's crazy.
- 50:36He has so much stuff that whole… It's worth the investment.
- 50:40Oh, I need to go.
- 50:41If you go to Las Vegas, go.
- 50:42I don't even know where that was going.
- 50:44Oh, Leatherfa- what I'm trying to figure out what movie you're talking about.
- 50:49Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 50:51Is that not what he's based off of?
- 50:53What is the guy's name though?
- 50:53He is.
- 50:54Ed, Ed Gein.
- 50:55Ed Gein.
- 50:56So he's based on that- Yeah … but the character in that movie
- 50:59doesn't s- really speak.
- 51:01Oh.
- 51:01He's, uh, not-
- 51:03Non-verbal?
- 51:03Yeah.
- 51:04He, I don't… Uh, he's not fully like developed appropriately.
- 51:08Oh.
- 51:09I guess I just thought that that was like who it was based off of.
- 51:11It is.
- 51:12Okay,
- 51:12great.
- 51:13So he did the same thing, so like Leatherface will like take people's
- 51:15face and then wear their face-
- 51:17Yeah
- 51:17… as his face.
- 51:18But I'm trying to f- like the, the connection of-
- 51:23Well, she said, "I wanna wear your skin as a sweater."
- 51:25Oh, that.
- 51:26I thought you meant like he was asking.
- 51:29Okay, I get it.
- 51:29I get it.
- 51:30Okay.
- 51:30I get it.
- 51:30We're all, it's coming around.
- 51:31I was like, I thought you meant he was asking like, "Do you love me?"
- 51:37or something.
- 51:37I thought it wa- Oh.
- 51:38I was like, "What?" I understand
- 51:38now.
- 51:38That was me.
- 51:39That was my misunderstanding.
- 51:40No, we're,
- 51:40We're good.
- 51:41That's hilarious.
- 51:42I don't remember that part.
- 51:43Yeah.
- 51:44I think because just the whole time I was like, like on, like covering- Yeah
- 51:50my, my mouth, like the whole time.
- 51:53Yeah.
- 51:54A- and I guess does anybody else have any like revelations from the movie before
- 51:58we talk about the dumbest decision?
- 52:00I don't think so.
- 52:02Oh, okay, yes, actually, one more thing.
- 52:03This is the last thing.
- 52:04The whole party, right, that they go to.
- 52:06Ooh, yeah.
- 52:07I, what a douche canoe Ian was to ask Bear, "Hey, can you give me a ride home?"
- 52:17But then not invite him to his party.
- 52:20Mm-hmm.
- 52:20That was the same night.
- 52:22What do you think- Yeah … was gonna happen, bro?
- 52:24And then be like, "Well, yeah, you can come. It's just a boys' night." And then
- 52:27there were definitely lots of girls there.
- 52:30Yeah.
- 52:30I did kind of laugh to myself though, like, whenever Nikki
- 52:34drags Sarah's chair back.
- 52:35Like, there… that part was actually kind of funny.
- 52:38Yeah.
- 52:38But then she goes crazy.
- 52:40Yeah.
- 52:40That poem she read.
- 52:43That w- like, yeah.
- 52:45Yowee-wowee.
- 52:47At
- 52:47the beginning.
- 52:47That was uncomfortable.
- 52:47She's like, "I'm gonna quit my job, and I'm gonna focus more on writing." And
- 52:52Bear's "No, I'm never gonna see you," and that's what she's been writing?
- 52:56Yeah.
- 52:57Or is that what Freaky Nikki wrote?
- 52:59Probably what Freaky Nikki wrote.
- 53:00I would like… I mean, maybe r- maybe just regular Nikki wrote regular stuff.
- 53:05Maybe.
- 53:05Not Hansel and Gretel,
- 53:06Like-
- 53:07… disturbing.
- 53:08Yeah, incestual.
- 53:09Yeah.
- 53:10Yeah.
- 53:10There was a lot to unpack at that, but-
- 53:12Yes
- 53:14… okay, so as we move into the discussion about the Dumbest Decision award,
- 53:18I would like to hear your thoughts, because I feel like the whole movie
- 53:23was, like, a series of dumb decisions.
- 53:25Yeah.
- 53:25I almost thought it would be easier to say, "Let's award the
- 53:29good decision." Ooh, I like that.
- 53:30But then I truly couldn't think of one.
- 53:32Ooh.
- 53:36I don't know.
- 53:36Do you have one that you, like, you thought was, like, the, a
- 53:38worse decision than the others?
- 53:42Obviously the wish itself was- Yeah … definitely a dumb decision.
- 53:48Yeah.
- 53:48' Cause he, he could have, if she did like him, and she had that moment where she
- 53:53said, "If you like me, you need to tell me right now," and then he just, he didn't.
- 53:56And then he… The smart thing to have done there would be
- 54:00just tell her how he feels.
- 54:01Yeah.
- 54:02Instead of making a wish.
- 54:05As a guy, 'cause usually the men are the ones that like make the first
- 54:09move, I imagine that must be scary.
- 54:12Yeah.
- 54:13So do you give him- Of course … any kind of credit for being a wimp about it?
- 54:16Or like in that moment are you just supposed to man up and do it?
- 54:22Yeah, I mean, I absolutely relate to the fact that it is
- 54:25hard- Uh-huh … to do that.
- 54:26'Cause I mean, there, there's a lot going on, especially if someone that is a a
- 54:31friend, someone you hang out with- Yeah
- 54:33and then there's the chance that you're gonna make it weird, and then kinda cause,
- 54:38maybe a division in the friend group or something, or make things awkward.
- 54:41And so, yeah, I could have, I could definitely relate to the fact that
- 54:44that would be a scary thing to do.
- 54:46But-
- 54:46Yeah
- 54:47… but wishing for someone to…
- 54:49When you really think about it, making a wish for someone to love
- 54:52you is absolutely diabolical.
- 54:54Yeah.
- 54:54Yeah.
- 54:55And he had that whole TED Talk in his back pocket that he gave to the nurse,
- 54:59or not the nurse the waitress at the very beginning- Mm-hmm … how the movie opens.
- 55:03Yeah.
- 55:04And I'm like, brother, you have it right there.
- 55:08Just recite it.
- 55:09Regurgitate what you said to that little girl at the diner.
- 55:12' Cause it wasn't terrible.
- 55:12Just give it a try.
- 55:13No, I thought it was sweet.
- 55:14Yeah.
- 55:14The Ian, the, the jerk mouth was the one that was like, "You can't say that."
- 55:20The jerk mouth.
- 55:21And the waitress, the actual girl, listen to the girls when we tell
- 55:24you, you can say that kind of stuff-
- 55:26Yeah
- 55:27if we're actually friends and close, like-
- 55:29And it'll be okay.
- 55:30Yeah.
- 55:30Yeah.
- 55:32Don't listen to
- 55:32Ian.
- 55:32Don't listen to your dorky friends that are just jealous and they are threatened
- 55:37by your relationship with the person.
- 55:40I don't know.
- 55:40Any other dis- but, to be fair to him, he thought that was not gonna work.
- 55:43He thought that was fake.
- 55:44Yeah.
- 55:45I guess we think it's a toy.
- 55:46I'm like, well-
- 55:48True That's
- 55:48true … how, how dumb really was that?
- 55:50How did all this go after?
- 55:52But how could this get-
- 55:53Like, holy moly.
- 55:53If you're gonna buy a, a crystal- Just buy the crystal … just buy the crystal.
- 55:58Get out.
- 55:58He didn't buy the crystal.
- 55:59And he just bought this random wish thing that he was gonna give to her.
- 56:05And then he was like, "No, I think I'm gonna pocket it for myself."
- 56:10Yeah,
- 56:10no.
- 56:10And then he didn't give her anything.
- 56:11He said he had something for her, and he was like, "Oh,
- 56:13sorry, I forgot it." You liar.
- 56:15Oh, I forgot about that.
- 56:16Yes.
- 56:18Oh, because is that, like, whatever he says on the phone whenever
- 56:21she's, like, trying to get him to come out to trivia, he, like, tells
- 56:24her that he got her something?
- 56:26Yeah, I think that's right.
- 56:27Also, I really just hated the whole, like, why do we… Like, how good of
- 56:32friends are you if you don't even know that, like, she's not close with her dad?
- 56:36That whole thing irritated me.
- 56:37True.
- 56:38We didn't really talk about the restaurant scene where she's like no, no, no, no.
- 56:43We're having a good time."
- 56:45Yeah.
- 56:45Or, like, whenever he's, like, on the phone with Ian, and you see
- 56:49her, like- Kinda, like, creeping in the back … walk into frame.
- 56:52And then go back.
- 56:53Yeah, that was spooky.
- 56:54Yeah.
- 56:54Okay, yeah, but I didn't… I can't think of a single good decision either.
- 56:58I can't.
- 56:59'Cause, like, even Sarah, even Sarah, like, knowing that he's with Nikki,
- 57:03texting him at like 3:00 in the morning, being like, "Hey, come meet me."
- 57:07Like, girl.
- 57:08After seeing her… Well, 'cause wasn't that also after… Yeah, that was after-
- 57:11That was after the party … the party.
- 57:12You saw this person act completely unhinged.
- 57:14Yes.
- 57:15And you're gonna poke that bear?
- 57:16Sarah.
- 57:17Yeah.
- 57:17Be so for real.
- 57:18So for real.
- 57:19You should have known.
- 57:20Yeah.
- 57:20Yeah.
- 57:21And also, why do you like that boy?
- 57:23What is it about-
- 57:24She should've had a… She could've had better crush on, uh, Andy
- 57:27Richter or whatever, the shop owner.
- 57:28Like, she would've been better off liking her boss- Oh, is
- 57:30that who that wa-
- 57:31… than this
- 57:32dork- Wait … of a man.
- 57:33Her dad?
- 57:34Was that her dad?
- 57:36Did her dad own the store?
- 57:38Yes.
- 57:38Oh, my bad.
- 57:39I totally missed that.
- 57:41I must-
- 57:44Okay, don't do that
- 57:44Don't do that.
- 57:45Don't.
- 57:45Please.
- 57:46Also bad.
- 57:46Also bad.
- 57:47Who is Andy Richter?
- 57:48Isn't that who that was?
- 57:50Yeah.
- 57:50It was Andy Richter.
- 57:51Was he on Conan?
- 57:52Yeah.
- 57:52Is that where he got famous?
- 57:53Yeah, he was- On- Yeah, he- Conan O'Brien … Conan O'Brien and, uh-
- 57:56That's hilarious
- 57:56… he's on Elf.
- 57:57Is he?
- 57:58What?
- 57:58Mm-hmm.
- 57:59Who,
- 57:59who's the- He's one of the writers
- 58:01… oh.
- 58:03So he wrote Elf.
- 58:03Is he the other one,
- 58:04the not Kyle?
- 58:05Yeah, you've got Kyle Gass and- Yeah … Andy Richter were the writers.
- 58:08Oh, okay.
- 58:09The, where, "We've got a an asparagus, but he's self-conscious
- 58:12about the way his pee smells." Yeah.
- 58:13That guy?
- 58:14That- Okay … well, no, that, that- That was Kyle?
- 58:15Kyle Gass said that.
- 58:18Okay.
- 58:19We, obviously we've seen that movie many times.
- 58:21So he wrote it, but he also, like, did a cameo?
- 58:24No, he was one of the- He
- 58:25played a writer.
- 58:26He played
- 58:26a
- 58:27writer.
- 58:27Oh.
- 58:28Played a writer.
- 58:28I follow.
- 58:29Yeah.
- 58:29Good grief.
- 58:30Sometimes.
- 58:30Actually, I mean, he could, he could have wrote it.
- 58:32I don't know.
- 58:32I don't know who wrote the movie.
- 58:33I don't know if- I thought what's his name wrote it.
- 58:34Maybe you're right … I don't know if it was Favreau or-
- 58:36I don't know
- 58:37… I know Favreau directed it, but I'm not sure-
- 58:38We'll have to pay closer attention to
- 58:40Elf from here out.
- 58:40Was
- 58:40that the guy who was Happy?
- 58:41Yep.
- 58:41Yeah.
- 58:41He's the director.
- 58:42He is
- 58:42a
- 58:43genius.
- 58:43Yeah, he was the director- Very talented guy
- 58:45of Elf.
- 58:45Yeah.
- 58:45And then also, he, he was the doctor in that one scene.
- 58:48Yeah.
- 58:49The doctor?
- 58:50The doctor that he, when he pokes his… He's like, "Stop eating the,
- 58:53um, the cotton balls," or whatever.
- 58:56Yeah.
- 58:56And it's a boy.
- 58:56That guy.
- 58:57I
- 58:57need to rewatch this movie.
- 58:57I-
- 58:58We watch it every year.
- 59:00I know.
- 59:01But no, to be fair, nobody's really watching it.
- 59:02We're all socializing.
- 59:03I think we left before the movie played last year.
- 59:06That's hilarious.
- 59:08No, I wanna know what the guy at the shop when, like, so, like, when Bear
- 59:12goes and he's, like, covered in blood and he's like, "Bro, your vibe is
- 59:16like- Yeah … so off." I wonder what his wish, 'cause he had made a wish.
- 59:21I wonder what his wish was.
- 59:22Oh, he said he had made one?
- 59:24Yep.
- 59:24Oh.
- 59:25I don't know, 'cause I mean, things seemed to be okay for him.
- 59:27He was- He's just living life.
- 59:28Yeah.
- 59:29Probably to run the shop, 'cause that girl was gone.
- 59:31Was he- I don't know … may- maybe he was the guy.
- 59:33Like
- 59:33the- Maybe he was the one on the other end of the phone.
- 59:35Oh.
- 59:35No, he's not the director.
- 59:36Oh, okay.
- 59:37You know what
- 59:37he looks like?
- 59:38Oh, yeah.
- 59:38Yeah.
- 59:39He wears, like, really weird glasses.
- 59:41They're like the yellow glasses.
- 59:43Oh.
- 59:44Like Elton John.
- 59:51Okay.
- 59:51All right.
- 59:51So club rules on this one.
- 59:51I mean, I would say-
- 59:52Be able to read a room.
- 59:54Yeah.
- 59:55I, I'd also say, uh, always check your sandwich.
- 59:58Oh.
- 59:59Excellent.
- 1:00:00Excellent.
- 1:00:01Yeah.
- 1:00:01Um, stay away from the weak men of the world.
- 1:00:05Yeah, there are plenty of them.
- 1:00:07Yeah, just get you a guy that will say, "I like you."
- 1:00:11Yeah.
- 1:00:12Not put you in a prison of your own body.
- 1:00:16Yeah, and then take advantage of you over and over.
- 1:00:19Truly.
- 1:00:20Ugh.
- 1:00:20Both of those guys.
- 1:00:22Ian and… Bear?
- 1:00:24Is that his name?
- 1:00:24That's how much I didn't like him, I didn't remember his name.
- 1:00:26I thought, what a terrible name.
- 1:00:28Bear?
- 1:00:29Uh, yeah.
- 1:00:30Maybe I shouldn't have said that, 'cause I'm sure there are lots
- 1:00:32of people out there named Bear.
- 1:00:33The lead singer of, uh, what's his name?
- 1:00:34Needforbreathe.
- 1:00:35Lead Need- Needforbreathe.
- 1:00:36Oh.
- 1:00:37Need- Needtobreathe.
- 1:00:38Okay.
- 1:00:40Sorry, my brain did not, uh- Yeah … fully process that before I said it.
- 1:00:44That's hilarious.
- 1:00:44That is true.
- 1:00:46Bear Reinhart.
- 1:00:47Yeah.
- 1:00:48Yeah.
- 1:00:48Uh, but it works in that context.
- 1:00:50It does for him, yeah.
- 1:00:51' Cause he's- Like, cool indie guy, not this-
- 1:00:54Not pathetic-
- 1:00:55weird, dirty sock wearing-
- 1:00:57Oh, the dirty socks
- 1:00:58… ugly shirt wearing looking boy.
- 1:01:01I didn't even notice the dirty socks.
- 1:01:02I'm gonna have to watch for that next time, I guess.
- 1:01:04Oh,
- 1:01:04they were-
- 1:01:04That was all I could look at in that scene
- 1:01:06… yeah, 'cause he's, like, laying on top of his sheets with his jeans
- 1:01:10on, with his dirty- Dirty socks
- 1:01:13But all the sweaters neatly hung up in the closet.
- 1:01:17But you can't do a load of whites to wash your socks?
- 1:01:20Yeah.
- 1:01:20No bleach.
- 1:01:21Well, he used all the bleach to clean up his cat.
- 1:01:23So I'd say no bleach at that house.
- 1:01:25He used it all.
- 1:01:27Yikes.
- 1:01:28Although- Mm … it is easy to get white socks dirty, but then just take them off.
- 1:01:31Don't wear them in bed.
- 1:01:32Yeah.
- 1:01:33But then have you ever…
- 1:01:34Sometimes I think about, this is a little gross, but whatever, you gotta, like,
- 1:01:38de-season your feet before you go to bed.
- 1:01:40You know what I mean?
- 1:01:41De-season?
- 1:01:42Like, you gotta let them air out?
- 1:01:43No.
- 1:01:44No.
- 1:01:44De-season?
- 1:01:46What?
- 1:01:46Do you know what you're talking about?
- 1:01:48I know what she's… I know what she means.
- 1:01:50You know how, like, you just walk around your house barefoot.
- 1:01:52Like, you just… Oh.
- 1:01:54You gotta get all the little crumbs and just, like, you gotta de-season-
- 1:01:55No, I don't walk barefoot.
- 1:01:57You don't?
- 1:01:58So you don't walk barefoot in your house?
- 1:02:00Anywhere.
- 1:02:01Anywhere?
- 1:02:02What about the beach?
- 1:02:03What about the
- 1:02:04shower?
- 1:02:04Yes, that's the one exception is the beach, but I hate it when you get…
- 1:02:07Because you're supposed to be- Yeah
- 1:02:08grimy feet at the beach.
- 1:02:09But then when you get off and you have sprayed your feet down-
- 1:02:12Yeah
- 1:02:12… one grain of sand, I'm like the princess and the pea when it comes to that.
- 1:02:18I cannot stand it.
- 1:02:19Oh, man.
- 1:02:20And the squeak and squawking of the shoes all the way back- The
- 1:02:24squeak of the shoes … to the room.
- 1:02:24It's, yeah, it's a thing.
- 1:02:26So- I don't like bare feet at all.
- 1:02:28So what do you wear around your house?
- 1:02:29Socks.
- 1:02:30Oh.
- 1:02:31What color are they?
- 1:02:32Black.
- 1:02:34All of your socks are black?
- 1:02:36No.
- 1:02:37Um, I have some color ones.
- 1:02:39Like, I have- Okay … naturally, you know me, I have Halloween.
- 1:02:42Every year I usually buy a little pack of Halloween socks just to be in season.
- 1:02:46Yeah.
- 1:02:46And I'll wear those just to tootle around the house.
- 1:02:50But then they start looking grimy.
- 1:02:51I know.
- 1:02:52It doesn't matter how many times you wash them.
- 1:02:53That's why I wear black socks.
- 1:02:53So I would never wear them out in public.
- 1:02:55Wouldn't have s- the person you like over at your house- To see
- 1:02:59it … and then you're just like, "Hey, look at my grimy old socks."
- 1:03:05At least they didn't have holes in them.
- 1:03:06Did they not?
- 1:03:07I don't know.
- 1:03:08I don't think they did.
- 1:03:08I think they were just dirty.
- 1:03:08I
- 1:03:08wouldn't put it past
- 1:03:09this little boy.
- 1:03:10Wow, that's so funny.
- 1:03:11I'm glad that you got a kick out of that, de-seasoning your feet.
- 1:03:14Did I?
- 1:03:15It took me a long time, but, like- … it makes sense when you say it now.
- 1:03:19Yes.
- 1:03:20Yes.
- 1:03:21Oh, man.
- 1:03:22Any other club rules to survive?
- 1:03:24I don't know how you survive this one, to be honest.
- 1:03:27Yeah.
- 1:03:27I mean, once it's
- 1:03:28done-
- 1:03:28I think… Yeah
- 1:03:28… and you didn't even… That's the thing, she did not even
- 1:03:31have anything to do with it.
- 1:03:33And she's like… I watched an interview with the director, and he was like I
- 1:03:37imagine she probably goes to jail."
- 1:03:40Like, that sucks.
- 1:03:41Yeah.
- 1:03:42' Cause but you can't prove it.
- 1:03:44I mean, her DNA's all over, you know?
- 1:03:46Yeah, I mean, technically she did it.
- 1:03:47Her body did it.
- 1:03:48Her body did it.
- 1:03:49And, like, what a terrible thing to be, like, in your body and, like,
- 1:03:52knowing that, like, your body's doing this- Mm … but you can't-
- 1:03:56Yeah … there's nothing that you can do.
- 1:03:57That's that's terrible.
- 1:03:58That's a terrible way to live.
- 1:04:00Terrible way to be.
- 1:04:00Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:01Okay, so would y'all survive?
- 1:04:06I think I would be good because I have never been the girl that
- 1:04:11any boy was like, "I just so wish she would love me." So, oh.
- 1:04:14Like, I don't… I think I'm pretty safe, to be honest with you.
- 1:04:17If anything- Me too
- 1:04:18there's probably a man out there that's probably like, "I wish she would
- 1:04:22get fired so she goes away from me."
- 1:04:24Oh, that would've been Chase's wish.
- 1:04:26Yeah.
- 1:04:26I wish she didn't like me.
- 1:04:28Yeah.
- 1:04:29And then I would've killed him because-
- 1:04:31Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:31Well, he did try to phrase it smartly.
- 1:04:33He's like, "I wish she liked me j-", when he tried to make another wish himself- Oh
- 1:04:37"I wish she liked me just as a friend." Oh.
- 1:04:40But then the wish didn't work 'cause he'd already made one.
- 1:04:42If he couldn't snap it.
- 1:04:42I thought that- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah … was really clever.
- 1:04:44That was cool.
- 1:04:45I thought that was cool.
- 1:04:46Yeah.
- 1:04:47No, that- I- I guess that's how that would've gone
- 1:04:48… but yeah, I feel like I'm 100% good.
- 1:04:50Yeah.
- 1:04:51I'm also not calling some boy at 3:00 AM to come meet me at the park, so I'm,
- 1:04:54I'm not meeting Sarah's fate either.
- 1:04:56I'm sleeping.
- 1:04:56Yeah, so you would be safe.
- 1:04:58I think I'm good.
- 1:04:58I guess it depends on, like, if seventh grade Shannon would've made that wish.
- 1:05:02Yeah, no, she would've- I would … she would've been toast, for sure.
- 1:05:05Yeah, I mean, high
- 1:05:05school me, I probably would've been.
- 1:05:08Oh.
- 1:05:08What about you?
- 1:05:08I mean, it would've been whatever the consequence of, of, you
- 1:05:11know, wishing for the money.
- 1:05:12Oh, that's right- That's, that's- … 'cause
- 1:05:13you have
- 1:05:13no heart.
- 1:05:14That would've happened.
- 1:05:15It would've, you know, I'd been like, "Oh, okay- It would've … give
- 1:05:17me a million dollars," and-
- 1:05:18Yeah
- 1:05:19something bad would've happened-
- 1:05:20Mm-hmm
- 1:05:21… to get that.
- 1:05:21It would've been like you embezzled this somehow.
- 1:05:23Yeah.
- 1:05:23Probably.
- 1:05:24I thought I had embezzled once.
- 1:05:26Have I told you all this story?
- 1:05:28Uh, no.
- 1:05:30Okay.
- 1:05:31So whenever I, and I hope I don't, I should, it's, it's fine.
- 1:05:35Whenever I moved up here I s- uh, you know, was working at Mercy,
- 1:05:40and they gave me a moving stipend because I was moving from Conway
- 1:05:45back to Springdale, or to Rogers.
- 1:05:47And so I got, like, a $3,000, like, moving stipend, right?
- 1:05:51Well, I moved back home.
- 1:05:53I didn't sign a contract.
- 1:05:55Yeah.
- 1:05:55But I moved back home with my parents.
- 1:05:57I had no moving expense, so I just pocketed that money, right?
- 1:06:03I used it as a down payment for my wedding venue is what I did.
- 1:06:06Smart.
- 1:06:07Yeah.
- 1:06:07Made sense to me.
- 1:06:08So then one day I'm watching Superstore with Alek.
- 1:06:12I love that show.
- 1:06:13Yes.
- 1:06:14And I guess there was an episode where, and I had never heard of the term
- 1:06:17embezzlement until this episode, and I guess the manager was, like, getting
- 1:06:23money from corporate for the store, but then was, like, buying it s- like-
- 1:06:26Yeah
- 1:06:27… stuff for him.
- 1:06:28And I was like That kind of sounds like what I did.
- 1:06:32And I sat on this for, like, a couple weeks, and it gnawed at me and
- 1:06:36gnawed at me, and I was so afraid.
- 1:06:38I was like, "I c- I might have committed a felony." But I
- 1:06:42don't think that is a felony.
- 1:06:43No, I mean, if they didn't ask for receipts.
- 1:06:45They didn't.
- 1:06:46Then you can do whatever you want with it.
- 1:06:47Exactly.
- 1:06:48It was for moving, and just, I just didn't have anything-
- 1:06:51Moving to the next chapter of your life.
- 1:06:54That's perfect.
- 1:06:55I'm gonna keep that.
- 1:06:56If they ever come… I mean, that's been seven years ago, but- But I literally,
- 1:07:00and when I finally told Alek, I was like, "I think I embezzled money." Yeah.
- 1:07:04What's h- what was his reaction?
- 1:07:06He just was like, "Why do you think you did that?" And I'm
- 1:07:10like, "Because I did this."
- 1:07:12Yeah.
- 1:07:12And he was like, "Shannon, that's not, that's… No, you did not." And I was
- 1:07:16like, "Okay, are you sure?" So that's why, that's my did I commit a felony?
- 1:07:22I don't know.
- 1:07:22You tell me.
- 1:07:24No one told me, though, if I actually did.
- 1:07:26Well, you don't work there anymore, right?
- 1:07:27No, I don't.
- 1:07:28So does that mean I'm good?
- 1:07:30I don't know if there's a statute of limitations on a felony like that.
- 1:07:34That you didn't commit,
- 1:07:36by the way.
- 1:07:36That you looked it up?
- 1:07:37I was- … actually just defi- asking to define a stipend, which is, um,
- 1:07:45'cause I feel like what a stipend usually is, is basically here's what
- 1:07:50you can use this for, but it's yours.
- 1:07:53Ah.
- 1:07:53Yeah.
- 1:07:55' Cause I remember we, we got a, a stipend for, whenever we went to
- 1:08:00work for, or work, work from home.
- 1:08:03Oh.
- 1:08:03They gave us a stipend for buying any- anything we needed for our home office.
- 1:08:08Yeah.
- 1:08:09And so, you know, I used it to buy a monitor and some supplies
- 1:08:13and things like that to, you know-
- 1:08:16And what else?
- 1:08:18I mean, that was pretty- You
- 1:08:18spent it all on the stuff?
- 1:08:20Oh, yeah, 'cause I got a- Everything … I got a I mean, I got a nice monitor.
- 1:08:23Oh.
- 1:08:23But I mean- Yeah … but it's also it's mine.
- 1:08:26Like, I don't have to- That's true.
- 1:08:28Yeah, I don't have to give that back.
- 1:08:30It's, that's my monitor now.
- 1:08:32Yeah.
- 1:08:32Oh.
- 1:08:32So it's not like they own your house if you spend it on mon- if
- 1:08:36you spend it on rent or whatever.
- 1:08:38Yeah.
- 1:08:38You're good.
- 1:08:39Girl.
- 1:08:40You're fine.
- 1:08:41Whew.
- 1:08:42So-
- 1:08:43No jail for you.
- 1:08:44Ugh, for now.
- 1:08:46Just kidding
- 1:08:49Yeah.
- 1:08:50So that's- Nice … that's pretty much it.
- 1:08:51So is, is the next one
- 1:08:54Monster smash or pass?
- 1:08:56Yeah, there we go.
- 1:08:57I don't, I don't know where this is gonna go
- 1:09:01To me, the monster of the movie is this Bear
- 1:09:06Oh, for sure, 100%
- 1:09:06And hard pass.
- 1:09:07You know, all of these things, eh, both episodes we've done before, we
- 1:09:13did Pennywise in IT, and the alien from Alien, and in both of those
- 1:09:18things we were like, "You know, hear me out, there are some qualities."
- 1:09:21Not one single thing about this human boy that I'm like-
- 1:09:26Human boy
- 1:09:27… yeah, that I'm like- Benjam … oh, pa- I would rather be with Pennywise
- 1:09:31the Clown than- Yuck … this human clea- used Kleenex.
- 1:09:37I just do not-
- 1:09:40You are a used Kleenex Yeah.
- 1:09:42So no, pass.
- 1:09:44Okay, I did say he's a cat person.
- 1:09:48He killed it.
- 1:09:49He let it die.
- 1:09:50That was an accident
- 1:09:54He didn't mean to
- 1:09:56… irresponsible cat.
- 1:09:57And then I don't even think it was his cat.
- 1:09:58You're so- It was his granny's cat.
- 1:10:00You, firstly, did he even-
- 1:10:01Oh
- 1:10:02… did his grandma die off all the medicine too?
- 1:10:04Was he just out here killing everybody?
- 1:10:06He s- this is a Black Widow of a young man.
- 1:10:08Whoa,
- 1:10:08oh.
- 1:10:09I just cracked the movie open.
- 1:10:11Wow, that's gonna be the prequel.
- 1:10:13Yeah, where he kills his grandma?
- 1:10:14Yeah.
- 1:10:16Wow.
- 1:10:16He, like, makes a wish, he forgets about it, she dies.
- 1:10:20Oh, and then he d- ooh … then, then
- 1:10:22he did it again
- 1:10:22… what if it did?
- 1:10:23If every time you made a wish you totally forgot and you had to relive that?
- 1:10:27Oh, that's a movie idea.
- 1:10:28Ooh, TM,
- 1:10:29TM,
- 1:10:30TM.
- 1:10:30That's our idea.
- 1:10:32I mean, he does, I mean, I like a cat, but…
- 1:10:35Yeah.
- 1:10:36I'm about to get rid of this one.
- 1:10:37No.
- 1:10:38Do you see all that hair- Yeah, girl … coming off of her?
- 1:10:41Yeah.
- 1:10:41He does have a job, and that he literally would die for you.
- 1:10:46But he didn't.
- 1:10:47That wasn't for him, though.
- 1:10:48That, that was-
- 1:10:48He had the option of dying.
- 1:10:50He went to shoot himself, and then he took all his pills.
- 1:10:54He did, he did take the pills, so he d- but was that for her or for him?
- 1:10:57No, that was for him.
- 1:10:58That was for him.
- 1:10:59You're right.
- 1:10:59You're right.
- 1:11:00'Cause the guy in the car was like, "Well, you could just die."
- 1:11:04And he's like, "There's not"- He's like- He's
- 1:11:05like,
- 1:11:05" There's not another option."
- 1:11:07But I don't wanna do that.
- 1:11:08But can she die?
- 1:11:09What about her?
- 1:11:10She, could she die, and then I live and go on like nothing ever happened?
- 1:11:14Ugh, crazy.
- 1:11:15Loser.
- 1:11:15There we go.
- 1:11:16What about you, Mark?
- 1:11:18Yeah, I don't know about this one.
- 1:11:19Oh, also- I mean- … disclaimer that I didn't make in this one,
- 1:11:22uh, I would, I would pick you over-
- 1:11:23Oh
- 1:11:24anybody in the movie.
- 1:11:25This is true.
- 1:11:26Yeah.
- 1:11:26Thank the
- 1:11:26Lord.
- 1:11:27In case we were all sweating it 'cause I didn't say it.
- 1:11:28Yeah.
- 1:11:29All right.
- 1:11:30So does it join the club?
- 1:11:31Uh, for me, I would say absolutely.
- 1:11:33Yeah.
- 1:11:34I think this is- Yeah … phenomenal and just… Yeah, I mean, I it's, I
- 1:11:39think we're seeing the, the birth of a new horror director, and probably
- 1:11:45gonna see a lot from him in the future.
- 1:11:47I hope so.
- 1:11:48Yeah, I hope so too.
- 1:11:49It's worth a watch.
- 1:11:51There are a lot of movies where you're like, that is one you could
- 1:11:54wait for it to come out on streaming.
- 1:11:55Now, thankfully, it's already out on streaming 'cause it's
- 1:11:57been out in theaters for a while.
- 1:11:59Yeah.
- 1:11:59But that's worth the movie ticket money.
- 1:12:01It really was, yeah.
- 1:12:02And I don't say that a lot- I don't either … about movies
- 1:12:04anymore, especially scary movies.
- 1:12:07Like, when we went- Yeah … to see Longlegs a couple years ago, that was the
- 1:12:10worst, probably one of the worst wastes of money that I have spent on a scary movie.
- 1:12:14I was so let down by that.
- 1:12:15Yeah,
- 1:12:15I was too.
- 1:12:15And I, and I had an, it was a literal insult, injury to
- 1:12:19insult really, because I,
- 1:12:23b- Oh
- 1:12:23because I was walking to my seat.
- 1:12:27Oh, was that the movie?
- 1:12:29I'm just vis- I'm just visualizing- Oh, no … the whole situation.
- 1:12:31I had a handful of popcorn- … and I was walking up the steps in front of a
- 1:12:37full theater, mind you- Yes … a full theater, and I fell up the stairs- … and
- 1:12:43popcorn flew- In the air like a cartoon.
- 1:12:49And then I had to get up in front of all, and
- 1:12:57walk to my seat like nothing happened.
- 1:13:02And there I was, like a bumbling idiot behind you.
- 1:13:05Yeah.
- 1:13:05And I couldn't do anything 'cause I had two big giant drinks in my hand.
- 1:13:11And I had big gashes.
- 1:13:13I was wearing shorts, so
- 1:13:17both my knees were just busted open.
- 1:13:21I'm sitting here watching the whole movie bleeding
- 1:13:27And this was Longlegs.
- 1:13:28Ah.
- 1:13:29And that was the most entertaining part of the movie.
- 1:13:31Okay, yeah.
- 1:13:31That was not-
- 1:13:33Oh my gosh
- 1:13:33… worth it whatsoever
- 1:13:33That's so funny.
- 1:13:33Did you pick up every kernel of popcorn?
- 1:13:36No.
- 1:13:36I was like, "Get to your seat. Get to your seat."
- 1:13:39No, no, she got up quick and she- I thought she was fine, you know.
- 1:13:43I was not.
- 1:13:44Because she got up so quick- She was alone … and she booked it up the stairs.
- 1:13:47I was like- … "Okay, well, I guess she's all right."
- 1:13:50She just, she was running on pure adrenaline.
- 1:13:52Like- Yeah … didn't even feel the pain until halfway through.
- 1:13:54And like I kind of wish that people would have laughed.
- 1:13:59That was pretty awkward.
- 1:14:02Because then they would've been like, "Come on, guys."
- 1:14:06"We're all in this together." But everybody just
- 1:14:11… It's like, it's not awkward unless we make it awkward, and we made it awkward.
- 1:14:14Like-
- 1:14:14I didn't, they did.
- 1:14:16I'm saying ever- the theater as a whole.
- 1:14:18Nobody asked if you were okay.
- 1:14:19We as a whole, we, we, uh, we just, you know.
- 1:14:20I think y'all might have, but we were all laughing.
- 1:14:24Our friends were laughing when they were like, "Did you just fall up the
- 1:14:27stairs?" I'm like, "Yeah, LOL." And meanwhile, there's like teenagers all
- 1:14:32in the back row like, "What an idiot."
- 1:14:35Yeah, right.
- 1:14:35Like, "Old lady can't walk up the stairs."
- 1:14:38Because teenagers are the scariest thing on the planet.
- 1:14:41They're awful.
- 1:14:41That's why I stopped teaching.
- 1:14:42No, it was really their parents.
- 1:14:43That's funny.
- 1:14:43Their parents- Oh … are why I stopped teaching, but they raise the young things.
- 1:14:47They do.
- 1:14:47Oh my gosh, what a memory.
- 1:14:48Anyway.
- 1:14:49Wow.
- 1:14:50Thank you for that.
- 1:14:50I was laughing so hard I couldn't even get the words out.
- 1:14:52Oh.
- 1:14:52I hope you can understand the words that I said in that whole moment.
- 1:14:56We get that captioned.
- 1:14:57That's right.
- 1:14:58You'll have to do a translation.
- 1:14:59Yes.
- 1:15:00Oh, man.
- 1:15:01Man,
- 1:15:01what a memory.
- 1:15:02But anyway, yeah, I liked it.
- 1:15:03Join the club for me.
- 1:15:04I will watch it again if I get the opportunity.
- 1:15:06Yeah.
- 1:15:07Yeah.
- 1:15:07Yeah.
- 1:15:07I wanna watch that extended cut.
- 1:15:08Yeah, I wanna see the extended version.
- 1:15:09Yes.
- 1:15:09Okay.
- 1:15:09We should do that.
- 1:15:10Okay.
- 1:15:11Okay.
- 1:15:12So this was Obsession.
- 1:15:13What a fun episode.
- 1:15:14What a fun movie for all the wrong reasons.
- 1:15:17We hope that you guys enjoyed.
- 1:15:18Um, and we promise this is, this is the part where usually we would spin
- 1:15:21that spinning wheel of death, but, um, since we did kind of throw a
- 1:15:25little, a wrench to your plans, to our plans we will be covering Signs next.
- 1:15:30Which I am just excited to see.
- 1:15:33I'm excited to watch it.
- 1:15:34It's been a while.
- 1:15:34It's been a long time since I watched this movie.
- 1:15:36Yeah, me too.
- 1:15:37We hope that you guys watch along with us.
