- 0:00Speaker 1: Turn the TV off and with my type activity even
- 0:03Speaker 1: don't you get involved?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hey?
- 0:04Speaker 3: How many should I see? And see them? Mark?
- 0:06Speaker 4: Take a risk or take a chip?
- 0:07Speaker 1: You know, I'm tripping for my dog who You'll win
- 0:09Speaker 1: a couple of stars, say lieutenants for to get back
- 0:11Speaker 1: this revolution been televisus.
- 0:12Speaker 3: I felt through with the it next a young niggle,
- 0:14Speaker 3: get your chili yup?
- 0:15Speaker 1: You admit that a black out if they acted out?
- 0:17Speaker 3: I did that? All right, what's going on? Everybody? We're
- 0:22Speaker 3: gonna get down to brass tacks. I am the one,
- 0:24Speaker 3: the only, the w O O K. I E joined
- 0:28Speaker 3: here by my two normal misfits. We got mister Cole
- 0:31Speaker 3: Robbie Hello, Hello, and that creepy blonde kid that's in
- 0:35Speaker 3: your physics class, dexter.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm actually not in physics this semester. I'm doing that
- 0:41Speaker 2: over summer school.
- 0:42Speaker 3: But couldn't just roll with it? Could you remember what
- 0:46Speaker 3: I said about the creepy kid? Yeah, well you know.
- 0:51Speaker 3: But regardless of that, we got a bunch of questions. Obviously,
- 0:55Speaker 3: we open up our Patreon most weeks to kind of
- 0:59Speaker 3: I guess questions from you guys, whether that's good, bad,
- 1:02Speaker 3: ugly and different kind of taking some and most of
- 1:06Speaker 3: the questions seem to be that we're in season two,
- 1:10Speaker 3: set to is out right, But we've got people that
- 1:15Speaker 3: maybe have never seen this game, never played this game.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I'm very interested in this game. Where do you point them,
- 1:25Speaker 3: how do you get them started? And kind of how
- 1:28Speaker 3: do you form the welcoming committee, I guess is the
- 1:31Speaker 3: best way of putting it as far as bringing new
- 1:34Speaker 3: people into the crackhouse, I mean your local lgs.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Yeah, this was prompted by a question and also a
- 1:47Speaker 4: episode topic from Draconis, so I'll read how they were
- 1:53Speaker 4: did it here. I have some new players coming aboard
- 1:56Speaker 4: at my LGS, and their questions are what's set to
- 2:00Speaker 4: invest more in? So that question itself is more about
- 2:04Speaker 4: what to buy, which is of course one of the
- 2:07Speaker 4: first places you start. But I figured we could also
- 2:11Speaker 4: expand upon that a little further and talk about, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 4: op getting people to your store.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Because I think there's a big thing right right like,
- 2:24Speaker 3: because I think, especially when you're first starting in any game,
- 2:27Speaker 3: any CCG number one, how much time are you going
- 2:32Speaker 3: to dedicate into this? Is this going to be more
- 2:35Speaker 3: of a friendly free for all? Right? You're just going
- 2:38Speaker 3: to kind of play around have fun or or are
- 2:41Speaker 3: you going to go the Cole Robbie route and be
- 2:44Speaker 3: super competitive? Right?
- 2:48Speaker 4: You're competitive in the way of very willing to lose.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Right, Well, I mean you got to you know what,
- 2:53Speaker 3: to make an oblet, You got to crack a few eggs, right, So.
- 2:57Speaker 4: You usually I just pour mine out of a cart.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And well, I mean maybe that's the way to go
- 3:03Speaker 3: right now, since they're about eight bucks a dozen. But
- 3:05Speaker 3: you know, I think it's a very important question for
- 3:09Speaker 3: people to ask themselves what route do I want to go?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Because you can start in one route and move to
- 3:15Speaker 3: the other, And it's easier to start in one and
- 3:20Speaker 3: move to the other than start from the other and
- 3:23Speaker 3: move to one. Now, luckily for us, this game is
- 3:27Speaker 3: relatively cheap. I still don't think most cards are besides
- 3:31Speaker 3: for uniques are really over the what five dollars mark?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, I would say two or three dollars.
- 3:39Speaker 3: So it is it is wallet friendly, right, Because I've
- 3:43Speaker 3: always been of the kind of the thought process. Right,
- 3:49Speaker 3: if you're gonna go competitive out of the gate, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: you know you want to get into this game, and
- 3:53Speaker 3: you want to get into the competitive attitude, throw all
- 3:58Speaker 3: the boxes, throw all the starters, just throw them away,
- 4:01Speaker 3: don't even look at them. Go find a hero you
- 4:06Speaker 3: like or a hero you think is competitive, and just
- 4:09Speaker 3: net deck it, right, Go build that deck and start playing.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I mean that's all you've done, Wookie, right.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I mean I have I have two boxes of two
- 4:20Speaker 3: boxes of course that. But other than that, I just
- 4:23Speaker 3: I am a firm believer in buy singles right, Like
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't want to like you know, you know, copyright
- 4:31Speaker 3: and fringe on the professor here, But I've always been
- 4:34Speaker 3: a firm believer of that. It's gonna save yourself time
- 4:37Speaker 3: and it's gonna save yourself money. And then if you
- 4:39Speaker 3: have ideas later on down the road, you can always
- 4:43Speaker 3: buy the singles and then test it out. It's a
- 4:47Speaker 3: very easy thing to do.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yep. It'll may come a lot easier for altered when
- 4:55Speaker 4: the market is out and the target, as far as
- 4:59Speaker 4: I know, is still in quarter one of this year,
- 5:02Speaker 4: so by end of next month at the latest.
- 5:05Speaker 3: But even then, like right now, it's super eight easy.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Is it a two Z card game or a Z
- 5:11Speaker 3: card game?
- 5:13Speaker 4: It's gamers guild, asy gam Yeah, they don't have Trial
- 5:18Speaker 4: by Frost yet. Though, and I think that's because they're
- 5:21Speaker 4: probably just waiting for the marketplace and then they're just
- 5:25Speaker 4: going to unload the singles on that. Yeah. So I
- 5:31Speaker 4: I broke this down based on not buying singles, and
- 5:35Speaker 4: I put together a little graphic that has three three
- 5:40Speaker 4: different tiers. It's over on the current event type of
- 5:43Speaker 4: our sheet. So I'll break this down to YouTube and
- 5:48Speaker 4: then you guys can tell me how you feel your
- 5:50Speaker 4: experience where you would tweak or ad and I'll share
- 5:55Speaker 4: this graphic as well in our live chat and then
- 5:59Speaker 4: I'll probably put it on socials or something. I'll make
- 6:03Speaker 4: it a lot prettier when I put it on socials.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I just throw it together really quick.
- 6:07Speaker 3: That's pretty Pratt's.
- 6:10Speaker 4: I quickly edited it from like a construction like bulldozer
- 6:17Speaker 4: term sheet or something. That's why it's yellow and black
- 6:21Speaker 4: like a cat. But the very very base tire I'm
- 6:28Speaker 4: calling low tier this. This is my opinion on how
- 6:33Speaker 4: you should start. If you want to spend the least
- 6:35Speaker 4: amount of money, you should pick one starter deck, which
- 6:39Speaker 4: is about eight to fifteen dollars right now, and then
- 6:44Speaker 4: you should just buy boosters when you are able to
- 6:48Speaker 4: or when you want to to continue to build from there.
- 6:50Speaker 4: It's going to be about thirty dollars if you buy
- 6:53Speaker 4: a starter deck and four booster packs to start out.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Now here's the question. I got a question for you.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Be you ready for this?
- 7:03Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:03Speaker 3: Because there are definitely some hero is in the starter
- 7:08Speaker 3: decks that are easier than others. Who, if I am
- 7:12Speaker 3: a player getting into this, probably.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Did you.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I don't even get to ask the questions like I don't.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Pick me and he gives the wrong answer.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yeah, who would I pick? The right answer is I
- 7:31Speaker 3: think Sicky is probably the easiest.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Yeah, So Siggy is unfortunately the best answer to give
- 7:39Speaker 4: because ninety percent of people, even if they're not competitive,
- 7:44Speaker 4: they want to win. And the strongest starter deck and
- 7:48Speaker 4: the easiest one to play is probably the Siggist smart deck.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And then it's going to be easier to find different
- 7:58Speaker 4: things to just expand on that. Now, I personally would say,
- 8:05Speaker 4: pick which starter deck resonates with you the most as
- 8:09Speaker 4: a person and then go from there. But a lot
- 8:12Speaker 4: of people don't do that well.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And it's where where you get what am I trying
- 8:24Speaker 3: to say? Or where you get kind of in the
- 8:26Speaker 3: weeds on that one is like, okay, so if I'm
- 8:32Speaker 3: I'm Wookie right, and I you know, number one, I've
- 8:38Speaker 3: been around card games for a very long time. A
- 8:40Speaker 3: lot of people that are playing card games have not
- 8:44Speaker 3: been around card games for a long time, or that
- 8:46Speaker 3: are new coming in. Some of them, especially in this realm,
- 8:50Speaker 3: are coming from a very board game atmosphere, so it's
- 8:54Speaker 3: it's very different, right. So I mean I picked Lyra
- 9:00Speaker 3: up because I kind of just I liked the flavor
- 9:03Speaker 3: right going into it, I knew it probably wasn't going
- 9:08Speaker 3: to be the most competitive. I'm like half right, I
- 9:12Speaker 3: feel on that one because Lyra still like always has
- 9:16Speaker 3: like a top eight for some reason. But you know,
- 9:23Speaker 3: it's just one of those things where it's like picking
- 9:26Speaker 3: the one, like oh, I like yeasmir. Right. There's a
- 9:34Speaker 3: good example because I think when we first got the
- 9:36Speaker 3: starter decks and it looks at the starter decks, everyone
- 9:39Speaker 3: thought Yazmir was gonna be, Oh, it's gonna be It's
- 9:41Speaker 3: gonna be a really busted starter, and it turned out
- 9:45Speaker 3: to not do so hot.
- 9:46Speaker 2: The starter was not good at all, and it's.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Not right like the Yazmir starter needs a lot of
- 9:51Speaker 3: help where a lot of.
- 9:54Speaker 4: New players also don't understand the after you mechanic yet.
- 9:59Speaker 4: So it also makes the starter deck a little harder
- 10:04Speaker 4: because it's it's Akesha, right.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Doing demos for the game and watching people play Akesha,
- 10:16Speaker 4: most often their response is why would I ever want
- 10:19Speaker 4: to use that ability?
- 10:20Speaker 3: But then because the alter its kind of an odd game, right,
- 10:24Speaker 3: Like you don't want to go like every other game.
- 10:26Speaker 3: You kind of want to go first, accept this game
- 10:30Speaker 3: where you're like, I want information first and then I
- 10:34Speaker 3: can make up my mind.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Yep. So it becomes a lot stronger of a hero
- 10:40Speaker 4: when you know more so the game in and out.
- 10:43Speaker 3: So I would say, like, is a very strong starter. Yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 3: And man, I want to say, Bravos is the other
- 11:00Speaker 3: strong starter.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah. Kojo getting Buddha every other turn is usually pretty good.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Fire Dog Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Fire Dog, ye, the fire Dog usually pretty good For
- 11:13Speaker 4: new players. The moona starter deck is pretty good, but
- 11:18Speaker 4: it's also a little a little more getting used to
- 11:24Speaker 4: because you need to build up, you need to plan
- 11:27Speaker 4: around ay and kream things like that. So if you're
- 11:30Speaker 4: picking based on winning.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Or I'm picking on like ease of use, if that
- 11:41Speaker 3: makes sense, right and not necessarily winning, but like, I
- 11:45Speaker 3: feel like those are two starters that someone who number
- 11:49Speaker 3: one maybe is new to card games but also is
- 11:52Speaker 3: new to alter but also maybe new to card games
- 11:55Speaker 3: can pick up, learn and have a good time, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 3: even even win a handful of games with right. Probably
- 12:03Speaker 3: not going to beat a seasoned player, but you know,
- 12:06Speaker 3: they they they're going to have a good time playing
- 12:08Speaker 3: it right. They'll probably win a few games, and they'll
- 12:11Speaker 3: probably lose a few games. But like, they're not overly complex.
- 12:16Speaker 3: There's nothing in them that's going to like, oh but
- 12:19Speaker 3: I gotta do this, and then I gotta I gotta
- 12:21Speaker 3: bounce cards from my reserve back to my hand and
- 12:24Speaker 3: then play cards from my hand and then put them
- 12:26Speaker 3: back in reserve, and then do the hokey poke turn
- 12:29Speaker 3: myself about and then you know what I mean, There's
- 12:31Speaker 3: no there's that head spinning is not there. They're super
- 12:34Speaker 3: I feel, super straightforward, easy to pick up and play quickly,
- 12:39Speaker 3: and there's no frustration there.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Yep, yep. I think the Artist Deck and the Bravos Deck.
- 12:46Speaker 4: If you're picking starters based on ease of entry, those
- 12:51Speaker 4: are definitely the top two picks, Lyra. If you know
- 12:55Speaker 4: going into it. It's going to be chaos and gambling
- 13:00Speaker 4: if you like pain lyra Yeah, that's usually exactly how
- 13:06Speaker 4: I warned people. I'm like, if you want to play
- 13:08Speaker 4: this deck, just know it's like gambling, and then whether
- 13:12Speaker 4: the person was interested in that or not depend on
- 13:16Speaker 4: if they.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And that's exactly what drew me to Novenka right. Was
- 13:21Speaker 3: like when my buddy Domino explained it to me, He's like, oh,
- 13:27Speaker 3: she likes to roll dice, and I was like, gambling.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I'm in. I'm a degenerate gambler. I gamble. I don't
- 13:36Speaker 3: gamble often, but you're telling me I can gamble for
- 13:39Speaker 3: eight dollars and nineteen cents. I'm in.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Yeah, And the starter deck does not have Martin Gills,
- 13:50Speaker 4: so it is very much a gamble. I think it
- 13:53Speaker 4: actually only has Yeah, it only has one single word
- 13:57Speaker 4: borospashion as well.
- 13:59Speaker 3: So we'll see. I get it right in front of me.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm looking at the website and also, okay, the
- 14:06Speaker 4: website lists all the cards if you want to check
- 14:08Speaker 4: out the starter decks as well. So, but that's my
- 14:12Speaker 4: low low tier thirty bucks moving into medium, and it
- 14:17Speaker 4: is kind of quite a jump, but from my understanding
- 14:21Speaker 4: this is still pretty low for a TCG. I suggest
- 14:27Speaker 4: buying a booster box, either Kickstarter or retail, and then
- 14:31Speaker 4: boosters when you're able to. Depending on which one you
- 14:35Speaker 4: pick and what's available, you're looking at about one hundred
- 14:38Speaker 4: and ten two hundred and sixty dollars now. My pick
- 14:44Speaker 4: of which one for now is still the Kickstarter just
- 14:49Speaker 4: based on everything you get. The packs have more cards,
- 14:53Speaker 4: they have higher unique rates, they have cards rate anywhere else. Yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 4: And the only she with that is as of recording Friday,
- 15:04Speaker 4: February seventh, the best price is about one hundred and
- 15:08Speaker 4: forty five dollars.
- 15:10Speaker 3: They're coming down and they're going up. For Kickstarter, they
- 15:14Speaker 3: were at about one hundred and fifty hundred and sixty.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 4: They That's the hard part is they fluctuate because I
- 15:21Speaker 4: am not sure how much stock of them Gamers Guild has. Well,
- 15:27Speaker 4: they're not going to be forever, right, So I mean,
- 15:31Speaker 4: if you see a Kickstarter box for under one forty, yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 4: you snatched that shit up as fast as you can. Otherwise,
- 15:43Speaker 4: a retail box of Set one Beyond the Gates anywhere
- 15:47Speaker 4: from ninety five to one hundred and ten ish game
- 15:54Speaker 4: a lot of the prices I'm playing are from Gamers
- 15:56Speaker 4: Guild Arizona one because they ship throughout the United States
- 16:00Speaker 4: States too. They have the most stock from what we know,
- 16:04Speaker 4: and they have the retail for seventy dollars right now,
- 16:09Speaker 4: but that seems wow, very low, so I kind of
- 16:13Speaker 4: went on the higher range. And then my last tier
- 16:18Speaker 4: is the High Tier, which is a booster box of
- 16:20Speaker 4: each so one from Beyond the Gates, one from Trial
- 16:26Speaker 4: by Frost, and then Faction Break question Mark, but also
- 16:32Speaker 4: Faction Break. You can do on any of these tiers,
- 16:35Speaker 4: and if you want to focus on one faction, this
- 16:39Speaker 4: is absolutely something that I would recommend for either set.
- 16:43Speaker 4: And depending on if you split it between three people
- 16:46Speaker 4: or six people, it's about fifteen to twenty three dollars
- 16:52Speaker 4: a box, also depending on Kickstarter versus retail. Blah blah blah.
- 16:56Speaker 4: That's kind of the three things I laid out. What
- 17:01Speaker 4: what do you guys think from your experience, like what
- 17:04Speaker 4: would you add in? What would you change?
- 17:06Speaker 3: So I agree with with your A tier right, like
- 17:10Speaker 3: a starter deck and just a handful of boosters, right
- 17:13Speaker 3: YEA for that might be right, I really I'm not
- 17:20Speaker 3: a buy for boosters and kind of leave it at that.
- 17:22Speaker 3: If I'm going I'm slug it, right, I'm I'm a
- 17:26Speaker 3: swing out of your shoes kind of guy. Right, so
- 17:28Speaker 3: I'm I'm buying a box, right Like, It's just it's
- 17:33Speaker 3: you're either all in or not right like where you know,
- 17:35Speaker 3: where do you sit? But that's me, that's not for everybody, right,
- 17:41Speaker 3: the B tier with your B tier, I still would
- 17:45Speaker 3: recommend a starter deck of some sort whatever faction tickles
- 17:51Speaker 3: your fancy, because it does get you a lot of
- 17:55Speaker 3: those commons that you're gonna need. It's just a good base, right, Like,
- 18:00Speaker 3: there's a lot I think in all of them, except
- 18:03Speaker 3: for the Lyra one. Again, they come with a solid
- 18:07Speaker 3: foundation of the cards you're going to need moving forward.
- 18:11Speaker 3: And I don't know if one box is going to
- 18:14Speaker 3: get you all the commons in.
- 18:20Speaker 2: It would take three boxes.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you can normally.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Get all of the commons in one, but yep, to
- 18:27Speaker 2: this is just one.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Box for sure, right and I personally right now, I
- 18:33Speaker 3: mean I would suggest, like, if you're brand new to
- 18:36Speaker 3: this game, still focus on beyond the Gates. Yes, there
- 18:41Speaker 3: are more cars. I don't I haven't had much experience
- 18:46Speaker 3: with Trial by Frost. Yet you guys probably have had
- 18:48Speaker 3: more experience than myself, but a majority of the foundation
- 18:54Speaker 3: of your deck is still going to be Beyond the Gates.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Absolutely, there's probably like maximum of like four card families
- 19:03Speaker 2: that you're gonna add from Trial by Frost, So at
- 19:06Speaker 2: least eighty percent of your deck is going to be
- 19:08Speaker 2: set one, I think for now at least.
- 19:10Speaker 3: And then see I would probably suggest two boxes of
- 19:16Speaker 3: Beyond the Gates and one box a Trial by Frost,
- 19:22Speaker 3: or just go three boxes of Beyond the Gates and
- 19:25Speaker 3: then maybe see because without knowing where singles are coming from,
- 19:32Speaker 3: because I used to get mine from I always got
- 19:36Speaker 3: mine from gamers Gill day Z. So we'll see how
- 19:40Speaker 3: that kind of goes goes about. Faction breaks are awesome
- 19:44Speaker 3: if you have a group of like like two, three,
- 19:48Speaker 3: maybe four people and you can all get in for
- 19:52Speaker 3: about thirty to sixty bucks right and crack a box
- 19:56Speaker 3: and who you know, Oh you get this, you get this.
- 19:59Speaker 3: You a great way to pick up the cards for
- 20:02Speaker 3: the deck that you're looking to build on the pretty cheap.
- 20:07Speaker 3: So I love fat Wheat. I mean, we've done faction
- 20:09Speaker 3: breaks within the within the AC family, so I I
- 20:16Speaker 3: every time they're like anybody wanted to do a faction break,
- 20:18Speaker 3: I'm like I'm in because nothing's nothing's grimier than like, oh,
- 20:23Speaker 3: you guys we pulled and oh we got the we
- 20:26Speaker 3: pulled that god pack, right, yeah, and how how many
- 20:31Speaker 3: I got? Zero? Pulled a god pack for crying out loud.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I got no uniques out of that godpack. I was
- 20:39Speaker 3: going for Lyra, but I got no uniques. And then
- 20:44Speaker 3: the one unique that did come from that box was
- 20:46Speaker 3: a unique robin Hood post Nerves. It was like, right
- 20:51Speaker 3: as the nerve came out, I get the unique robin Hood.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I was like, oh, that's cool.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I guess since it was a faction break, you were
- 21:04Speaker 4: only out twenty five dollars.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Right, I'm only out like twenty five thirty bucks instead
- 21:08Speaker 3: of like AE hundred and change, you know, so it
- 21:12Speaker 3: wasn't too bad. Like they are fun to watch. Obviously,
- 21:16Speaker 3: definitely do it with people you trust. Don't do it
- 21:19Speaker 3: or randos on the internet, you know, because obviously those
- 21:22Speaker 3: QR codes are like gold, so obviously we all trust
- 21:28Speaker 3: each other here, you know. So we were able to
- 21:30Speaker 3: do it quite easily, and it was a good time,
- 21:33Speaker 3: you know, it's it's fun getting on Discord watching somebody
- 21:36Speaker 3: oh crack over the packs and you know, and again,
- 21:39Speaker 3: if you got people in your local you can you
- 21:40Speaker 3: can do this locally even even more fun.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yep, in person faction breaks are great.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it would be really cool to do in person.
- 21:50Speaker 4: And just a quick explainer if you've made it this
- 21:53Speaker 4: far but don't fully know what we mean by faction break. Basically,
- 21:58Speaker 4: you buy a box, whatever box it is is you
- 22:00Speaker 4: predetermine who is wanting what faction. So I usually take Muna,
- 22:07Speaker 4: you know, Dexter will take Ordis, Wookie will take Lyra,
- 22:10Speaker 4: and every card that fits in your faction you get
- 22:15Speaker 4: out of the box. What we usually do for things
- 22:20Speaker 4: like foilers and whatnot is we put the packs into
- 22:23Speaker 4: piles equally, so we say these, you know, six packs
- 22:28Speaker 4: or whatever we're opening right now, or for Wookie the
- 22:31Speaker 4: next sect, the next six are for Dexter, and then
- 22:35Speaker 4: you get those whatever foilers you open, so it's a
- 22:37Speaker 4: little a little more fair. And yeah, on the tiers,
- 22:41Speaker 4: I tried. I tried to stay as low as I
- 22:46Speaker 4: could for me personally, what I mean, I guess I
- 22:51Speaker 4: could just say what I have done, but in a
- 22:54Speaker 4: perfect world. If I were to do it again, I
- 22:56Speaker 4: think I would get one Kickstarter box will Beyond the Gates,
- 23:01Speaker 4: maybe too, if I could afford it, one starter deck.
- 23:05Speaker 4: And one good thing to know about the starter decks
- 23:08Speaker 4: is it also has all the tokens you need and
- 23:13Speaker 4: little markers. They are very thin, like cardboard, but they
- 23:20Speaker 4: are very useful. If you don't want to spend extra
- 23:22Speaker 4: money to get the acrylic.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Markers, it is only twenty dollars for the acrylic set,
- 23:27Speaker 2: which is not bad.
- 23:28Speaker 4: No. Yeah, the starter decks right now on Gamerskilled are
- 23:31Speaker 4: nine dollars.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Yeah, manet is it nineteen ninety three? All's nine bucks? Huh?
- 23:39Speaker 4: Yep? And you get the so you get the full
- 23:41Speaker 4: deck you can play with, You get those markers, you
- 23:45Speaker 4: get a rule set like the quick rules. You technically
- 23:50Speaker 4: get a paper mat, which almost no one wants to use.
- 23:54Speaker 4: It is a matt you can use if you don't
- 23:56Speaker 4: have one. Yep.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And then you get like me, I have hundreds.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you get like two foilers. It's a very good deal.
- 24:06Speaker 4: But now, so if I didn't care about the markers,
- 24:12Speaker 4: I didn't care about the paper matt, none of that.
- 24:16Speaker 4: What I would do now is higher end. I would
- 24:20Speaker 4: get my hands on one Kickstarter box of Beyond the Gates,
- 24:26Speaker 4: one Trial by Frost box, and then do a faction
- 24:30Speaker 4: break and then I really do like buying like four
- 24:33Speaker 4: packs here and there after I finish an OPE event,
- 24:38Speaker 4: then I bring them home and open them with my wife. Obviously,
- 24:43Speaker 4: if you are very set on specific rares, don't do
- 24:47Speaker 4: that because you will not be very happy. But Gamers
- 24:51Speaker 4: Guild Arizona does still have Beyond the Gates singles, they
- 24:56Speaker 4: just haven't listed any Trial by Frost. I assume they're
- 24:59Speaker 4: just going to wait for the marketplace and phase two,
- 25:04Speaker 4: the NDA is lifted, so you'll if you're not in it,
- 25:07Speaker 4: you'll at least be able to see like certain pricing
- 25:09Speaker 4: and creators. We'll be able to make videos about it
- 25:12Speaker 4: things like that, so you'll get an idea.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think you kind of nailed it. It's
- 25:20Speaker 3: a good way to do it all, no problem with it.
- 25:23Speaker 4: So so that was that was all the money, which
- 25:27Speaker 4: is like first at first, how you get in, But
- 25:31Speaker 4: there is there is another alternate route, which I don't
- 25:36Speaker 4: think very many people do, but you can. You can
- 25:40Speaker 4: go on board Game Arena right now and play with
- 25:43Speaker 4: a free account all of the starter decks for free
- 25:47Speaker 4: against random people and see if you like the game
- 25:51Speaker 4: that way. I feel like it goes one way or
- 25:55Speaker 4: the other for people because you're playing against everyone using
- 25:59Speaker 4: a star they don't enjoy it and wish they could
- 26:05Speaker 4: only be matched up with other Starter decks. Or it's
- 26:09Speaker 4: a good way for them to just see the game
- 26:12Speaker 4: and then they go out and buy it.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But that is one thing I wish BGA did do.
- 26:19Speaker 3: It is like you said, line up people against people
- 26:22Speaker 3: who are also using starter decks, right, it is a
- 26:29Speaker 3: little tough to get mollywomped by somebody who's playing a
- 26:35Speaker 3: constructed deck and you're like, oh, yeah, I'm I'm playing
- 26:39Speaker 3: the free starter bro.
- 26:42Speaker 4: So yeah, they have different cues, like they have Arena
- 26:48Speaker 4: and they have just regular play, but you get ELO
- 26:51Speaker 4: for both. So when you're first starting out on BGA,
- 26:56Speaker 4: your first goal is kind of to get to one
- 26:58Speaker 4: hundred EL. So if you're only playing with starter decks
- 27:01Speaker 4: and then trying to do that, because that's when like
- 27:04Speaker 4: more options open up, it's gonna be very hard.
- 27:08Speaker 2: But yeah, it would be very difficult if.
- 27:10Speaker 4: You picked the Cigy Starter deck and you tried really hard,
- 27:14Speaker 4: you'd probably still get a better win rate than I
- 27:16Speaker 4: have on my main account. So what do you know
- 27:21Speaker 4: what your win rate is on your account? Dexter?
- 27:25Speaker 2: Uh, that's around fifty.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Fuck no, go look at it again.
- 27:29Speaker 3: There's no way mine's around fifty.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Okay, yours makes sense? Look you fifty? Like? What two
- 27:35Speaker 4: games out of four? You one?
- 27:37Speaker 3: I've played a little more than that, Thank you.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Let me check. I'm gonna go to a check. I'm
- 27:44Speaker 4: gonna if Yeah, I.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Don't have freemium, so I can't like see all the stats.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Yeah I can see yours. Damn, yours is forty six percent?
- 27:55Speaker 4: All right, good job. I'm not gonna say mine now anyways,
- 28:02Speaker 4: it's nineteen percent. Oh Lord, to be fair, though, this
- 28:09Speaker 4: is a guy who only plays Warrio and now Siggy verse.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I've been playing goreg recently, okay.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Versus me who's played every single thing except for Warrio.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I've played all of the heroes.
- 28:28Speaker 4: All right, I'm beginning, I'm bad. What do you want
- 28:31Speaker 4: to say? So we talked about all the money, we
- 28:37Speaker 4: talked about all that. How did I mean I feel
- 28:42Speaker 4: like Wookie?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Year?
- 28:43Speaker 4: Answer is big z and Zach begged you to get
- 28:49Speaker 4: into Altered.
- 28:50Speaker 3: But no, that was not it at all.
- 28:55Speaker 4: I need this beautiful voice.
- 28:57Speaker 3: I didn't even know big Z and Zach were getting
- 29:00Speaker 3: into Altered. I actually had. So we were doing work
- 29:06Speaker 3: for another game I'm not going to name which game,
- 29:09Speaker 3: and one of my fellow one of our listeners from
- 29:13Speaker 3: Arkan's Corner was like, have you seen Altered? And I said,
- 29:16Speaker 3: you know, I looked at it and it looks interesting.
- 29:19Speaker 3: It did. It piqued my interest. And he's like, well,
- 29:22Speaker 3: you got tabletop simulator and I'm like I do. He's like,
- 29:27Speaker 3: we can go play it right now, and I was
- 29:30Speaker 3: like all right, cool, and so I was like, well,
- 29:33Speaker 3: let's say. Then we we busted open tabletop simulator and
- 29:36Speaker 3: started playing. And at first I was like oh, He's like, yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 3: here's like your six factions, you know, YadA yatta, and
- 29:44Speaker 3: I was like, oh okay, I like this this uh
- 29:47Speaker 3: this one which was a Yizimir like this kind of
- 29:51Speaker 3: one kind of looks cool. He was, and he's like
- 29:53Speaker 3: giving me the breakdown and I was like, oh okay,
- 29:56Speaker 3: and I was like oh, and I didn't. I hated
- 30:00Speaker 3: feel of the Asmir deck like I always felt I
- 30:03Speaker 3: was behind. I just wasn't understanding, like I got the
- 30:07Speaker 3: after you mechanic. I'm like, oh okay. Took me a
- 30:11Speaker 3: few turns because I was like, oh okay, this game
- 30:13Speaker 3: is about information, right, This is like this is kind
- 30:17Speaker 3: of like old school magic, right, like you want info
- 30:19Speaker 3: before you start doing stuff. Roger that and I was like,
- 30:26Speaker 3: what's the pink one? Because I don't know about you guys.
- 30:32Speaker 3: I like pink right, It's I am an Aerosmith song altogether.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Pink is my favorite color. It's my favorite crown. I
- 30:44Speaker 3: don't know, just I dig it. It looks good on me.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Dexter can can attest to I do wear a lot
- 30:49Speaker 3: of pink, and so he's like, oh, that's that One's
- 30:57Speaker 3: kind of weird it it does a lot of dice rolling,
- 31:04Speaker 3: and I was like, dice rolling, I'm horrible at that
- 31:09Speaker 3: I'm in. And then we played like six or seven
- 31:12Speaker 3: more games and I was like, I love this. I
- 31:15Speaker 3: love this, right, I said, because I know, Like what
- 31:19Speaker 3: really made me love it? I was like, and that's
- 31:21Speaker 3: what made me fall in love with Lyra was I
- 31:25Speaker 3: was like, someone's gonna roll up to a to an
- 31:28Speaker 3: event they have no plans on winning, right, But they're
- 31:34Speaker 3: gonna ruin some but some hardcore altered players day round
- 31:39Speaker 3: one because they just rolled out of their shoes, right,
- 31:45Speaker 3: And it's just it's that person is gonna blow up, right,
- 31:49Speaker 3: They're gonna they're gonna have just the worst day ever.
- 31:53Speaker 3: And and what's even better about it is the person
- 31:56Speaker 3: playing Lyra one hundred percent knew what they were doing, right, Like,
- 32:01Speaker 3: it's just it's so maniacal and evil, and I one
- 32:07Speaker 3: hundred percent loved the idea of it, like out of
- 32:10Speaker 3: the get go, and I'm like, yeah, I dig this game.
- 32:13Speaker 3: I was like, I kind of really dig it. And
- 32:15Speaker 3: then I went to gen Con and I I was
- 32:18Speaker 3: actually a World's for key Forge, and I was like, oh,
- 32:21Speaker 3: I'm gonna go pick up a couple of starters and
- 32:23Speaker 3: they didn't have much left I picked. I did pick
- 32:25Speaker 3: up a Lyris starter deck, and then I kind of
- 32:28Speaker 3: never touched it again once I got home. And then
- 32:31Speaker 3: Biggsy's like, Hey, what's your thoughts on doing another podcast?
- 32:37Speaker 3: And I was like, Nope, I don't have time, Like
- 32:40Speaker 3: I do what I do a lot for one already.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I just I can't see doing another one. And he's like, well,
- 32:47Speaker 3: I really want to do one I altered and I
- 32:49Speaker 3: was like, wait, what you got into this and he's like, yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 3: me and Zach both did. We bought the big Kickstarter
- 32:56Speaker 3: bundle and I was like, oh, right on. And I
- 33:01Speaker 3: was like, you know, because it's the and me and
- 33:04Speaker 3: z we're co hosts for so long on Arcans Corner.
- 33:07Speaker 3: He kind of like whittled me down and talked me
- 33:10Speaker 3: into it, right, And I'm like fine. He's like, man,
- 33:13Speaker 3: you don't got to do this, you know I I
- 33:15Speaker 3: already have a team together. All I need you to
- 33:18Speaker 3: do is just kind of be the voice guide, guide
- 33:21Speaker 3: the crew, and edit. And I was like, fine, I
- 33:26Speaker 3: can probably do that now I'm here. You two can
- 33:31Speaker 3: be a podcaster.
- 33:34Speaker 4: So he basically just asked you you have to do
- 33:37Speaker 4: the worst part and then also be on the podcast.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Are you in yeah, yeah, yeah, yep.
- 33:45Speaker 4: He's like he's right, the rest of us have to
- 33:47Speaker 4: do the easy.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Stuff well, and it's just like he's like, you a
- 33:50Speaker 3: lot more than me, Cole. You have to steer the ship, right,
- 33:53Speaker 3: which I've been doing for years now on Arcons Corner
- 33:56Speaker 3: and other podcasts, and then do the editing. And I
- 34:00Speaker 3: was like, yeah, I could, I could do all editing
- 34:02Speaker 3: to me now is like second nature, right, Like I
- 34:04Speaker 3: just know. And it's because I know I've been doing
- 34:06Speaker 3: it for so damn long. I'm just like, you're just
- 34:11Speaker 3: kind of chugging along, right, and then you know, you
- 34:14Speaker 3: do some things. AI is a wonderful tool nowadays, by
- 34:18Speaker 3: the way, like you kids don't know how good you
- 34:23Speaker 3: got it now. You know, back in the day, I
- 34:26Speaker 3: used to have to do tag word research on my own.
- 34:31Speaker 4: I still do it. Oh why because I am the
- 34:36Speaker 4: AI hater for this? For this episode, for this episode only,
- 34:41Speaker 4: you have to put a manual title because it has
- 34:45Speaker 4: to be how to get started with Altered. That's because
- 34:49Speaker 4: then the people who need to listen to it will find.
- 34:52Speaker 3: It fair enough. We'll see if that happens or not.
- 34:55Speaker 3: But that's my story of how I got into Altered.
- 34:58Speaker 3: You and I probably actually believe it or not. I
- 35:00Speaker 3: think we've talked about this. Probably did meet at gen
- 35:03Speaker 3: Con and have no clue?
- 35:05Speaker 4: Yeah, well, was it last year you went to gen Con?
- 35:10Speaker 4: Or was it the year before?
- 35:11Speaker 1: This?
- 35:11Speaker 3: Is this last year where they were first releasing Altered?
- 35:15Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, I was there in there and the whole time.
- 35:18Speaker 3: And you had to like join Q. I remember joining
- 35:21Speaker 3: QUES and Q's like immediately collapsing on the app because
- 35:26Speaker 3: you're like, oh, I can do this cue and then
- 35:27Speaker 3: like you like join and then it's filled and you're.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Like, ah, yeah, yeah they they they were pretty pretty popular.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Uh but Dexter, I guess we don't even really know
- 35:43Speaker 4: how you got into Altered, but.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I mean told me about it and I joined. That's
- 35:49Speaker 2: the whole story there.
- 35:50Speaker 4: All right, Well that's easy. So then the next part
- 35:53Speaker 4: of the question of like how to get started and
- 35:55Speaker 4: altered is how how do you find yourself like connecting
- 36:00Speaker 4: to it? More like what keeps you playing? Where do
- 36:03Speaker 4: you go? What do you listen to? Things like that.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I honestly enjoy the online just playing online the most.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I like the gameplay more than a lot of other
- 36:14Speaker 2: TCGs that I've tried. And just since it's new, it's cool.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I like you guys. I don't know, it's just fun
- 36:20Speaker 2: to hang out. I enjoy locals too, but I mean,
- 36:26Speaker 2: right now, I'm busy to make it.
- 36:29Speaker 3: So wish I had a local scene. That's that's I
- 36:32Speaker 3: don't like playing online and I don't have a local scenes,
- 36:36Speaker 3: So getting games and is very tricky for me.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Yeah, there's there's a couple of people I've seen during
- 36:42Speaker 4: the main discord that feel the same way. They don't
- 36:46Speaker 4: really want to play on BGA. They don't like to
- 36:50Speaker 4: play with random people.
- 36:52Speaker 3: And it's not just this card game. By the way,
- 36:54Speaker 3: I just want to like, it's no knock on this
- 36:58Speaker 3: card game. I just want to make sure everyone like
- 37:00Speaker 3: aware of that, Like it isn't that like bg A
- 37:02Speaker 3: is a like it is a fantastic online platform to
- 37:08Speaker 3: play this game. Yeah, it's just I don't like.
- 37:13Speaker 4: To say that. In the main discord right now, you'd
- 37:16Speaker 4: have like ten people throwing tomatoes at you.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Well that's fine. I can take them to the online
- 37:21Speaker 3: platform for a game called KeyForge, Yeah, and they can
- 37:25Speaker 3: see they can see just how good it's not. But
- 37:29Speaker 3: like this is a lot maybe it's one of those
- 37:32Speaker 3: like the grass isn't always greener on the other side,
- 37:35Speaker 3: like go go to some of these other games online platforms,
- 37:39Speaker 3: and then you'll understand, like how good you got it.
- 37:43Speaker 3: I don't I feel like a lot, like a lot
- 37:45Speaker 3: of the Altered community when they complain about BGA, it's like,
- 37:50Speaker 3: you guys have no clue how good you got it
- 37:54Speaker 3: no clue, right, Like it's not going to be uh
- 38:00Speaker 3: Magic Online or Magic Arena or even the Pokemon Pokemon
- 38:09Speaker 3: TCG platform, but like, for a free, free online platform
- 38:18Speaker 3: to play your game, it's it's up there. It has
- 38:24Speaker 3: a lot of the features that like, I mean, Magic
- 38:28Speaker 3: Arena gives you a starter deck and then you got
- 38:30Speaker 3: the stupid you know, like rare break cards and all
- 38:35Speaker 3: that jazz that you got to pay for. I mean,
- 38:38Speaker 3: for a free online platform, it's pretty good. Quit you bitching.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Yeah, Board Game Board Game Arena is really good. It's
- 38:47Speaker 4: actually also gotten me into like trying other games on it.
- 38:53Speaker 4: I have a group of friends we had a campaign
- 38:57Speaker 4: of an RPG. People you know, started jobs, schedules changed,
- 39:03Speaker 4: so we're just like, uh, we're just gonna casually do
- 39:07Speaker 4: something else. So I'm like, sweet, instead of every other
- 39:11Speaker 4: Sunday we do this campaign, how about we just hop
- 39:14Speaker 4: on like Board Game Arena and play some board games.
- 39:17Speaker 4: So yeah, it's expanded that way. But yeah, I think
- 39:20Speaker 4: it's very good, especially for it being official.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Can you free? And might I again? Might I add
- 39:30Speaker 3: it costs you zero dollars.
- 39:34Speaker 4: No money, but it's not a mobile app.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Wyeah. Correct.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I can kind of play on mobile very poorly.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Yes, sir, I've played it on my iPad. Works just fine.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Hey, someone was playing it on steam Deck the other day,
- 39:50Speaker 4: and now that's the thing I need to freaking do.
- 39:53Speaker 4: And we'll get working this weekend.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Plan on your steam deck.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Hell yeah, I will not play on my phone, but
- 39:59Speaker 4: I will play on my steam deck.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean phone's a little tough just because of
- 40:03Speaker 3: its size. I have the large twelve point nine inch
- 40:08Speaker 3: iPad pro. Yeah, it works, It works great, especially I
- 40:14Speaker 3: got an Apple pencil too, works great. There you go,
- 40:17Speaker 3: works fan fabulous, fantastic. I didn't had no problems. I've
- 40:21Speaker 3: only played it like twice on there, but my experience
- 40:24Speaker 3: wasn't bad.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Dexter, have you played Magic much at all? Yeah? Have
- 40:32Speaker 4: you played Magic? You've played Arena? Okay, so you've never
- 40:35Speaker 4: played what was before Arena, right?
- 40:37Speaker 3: Magic Online?
- 40:38Speaker 2: I played some in person Magic, but not any online.
- 40:43Speaker 3: There's there's also another app called Magic Online.
- 40:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna show you. I'm gonna show you just
- 40:51Speaker 4: a picture of Magic Online.
- 40:53Speaker 3: It's yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 4: And uh, this so like Arena's new Arena's not like old.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Magic Arena is probably it might be like ten
- 41:08Speaker 3: years old. Now, yeah, it's older than five years. It
- 41:13Speaker 3: might be like ten years old now yeah.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Magic Arena seven years It released in twenty nineteen.
- 41:22Speaker 3: So six years old. Yeah, I kind of I thought
- 41:25Speaker 3: six seven years.
- 41:27Speaker 4: So Magic the most popular TCG that's been out since
- 41:32Speaker 4: the early nineties, maybe even before that if you count
- 41:36Speaker 4: weird betas and whatever, did not get a client as
- 41:41Speaker 4: good as Arena.
- 41:42Speaker 2: In like ten years ago.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Well yeah, yeah until like thirty years into its life
- 41:48Speaker 4: cycle almost.
- 41:49Speaker 3: So yeah, Magic online is rough, and mind you you
- 41:54Speaker 3: had to buy all this, like, it's not just free.
- 41:57Speaker 3: You can't just play it, yeah, I mean yeah, you
- 42:00Speaker 3: have like yeah, but none of your cards and your
- 42:04Speaker 3: collection for like Magic Online count so you have to
- 42:08Speaker 3: buy them if you wanted to play them physically, you
- 42:11Speaker 3: have to buy them physically, and then you also have
- 42:14Speaker 3: to buy them in Magic Online. Oh so it wasn't
- 42:19Speaker 3: like free, right, Like you had to spend money on
- 42:22Speaker 3: Magic Online and then spend money in the same thing
- 42:26Speaker 3: with Arena arenas, they'll give you like you can play
- 42:29Speaker 3: for free.
- 42:30Speaker 2: You can get some cards, but yeah, if you want.
- 42:32Speaker 3: But you have to grind if you want to play
- 42:37Speaker 3: Magic Arena for free at a high level completely at all.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there are wild cards which help you.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Right, but again, you are grinding. You need to grind, Yes,
- 42:48Speaker 3: grinding where this game your your physical cards are also
- 42:54Speaker 3: your digital cards.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Yep, it's great.
- 42:58Speaker 4: So that that was a little side tangent, But since
- 43:02Speaker 4: Dexter's answer was so easy, what I will say is
- 43:08Speaker 4: find a local discord like this is. If you really
- 43:12Speaker 4: want to get into Altered and you want to start
- 43:15Speaker 4: playing it more, find a discord that's local to your area.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Altered Corner is Texas based, and we trek all of
- 43:23Speaker 4: the events for Texas, but we now have more people
- 43:27Speaker 4: that play online than play in Texas. Yes, so if
- 43:32Speaker 4: you don't have any locals, there are a couple online
- 43:35Speaker 4: communities like that for tournaments and playing. Even sometimes we
- 43:39Speaker 4: just hop in a voice call and play for someone.
- 43:43Speaker 4: It's not in person, but it's also not someone entirely random,
- 43:48Speaker 4: so that might help. I really like the main Altered
- 43:52Speaker 4: discord besides the couple times here and there that people
- 43:57Speaker 4: don't know how good they have it and start complaining,
- 44:00Speaker 4: but there's a lot of good in there. And then
- 44:04Speaker 4: I mean there's a lot of good YouTube content out
- 44:08Speaker 4: there now, and if you are for the first time
- 44:11Speaker 4: starting Altered, look at the website. Their website is also
- 44:16Speaker 4: very well made the event. If you go to the
- 44:19Speaker 4: events tab, it's split between both events and stores. Stores
- 44:25Speaker 4: should be just stores that do carry it or have
- 44:28Speaker 4: carried it if you're gonna if you're not too sure
- 44:31Speaker 4: about a store, or call ahead see if they still
- 44:33Speaker 4: have it, and then events should only have events that
- 44:37Speaker 4: are upcoming on the map. What I recommend doing if
- 44:42Speaker 4: you want to like help grow or you want to
- 44:46Speaker 4: see if a store is doing something. If there's a
- 44:49Speaker 4: store that's listed on the stores tab but doesn't have
- 44:53Speaker 4: any events and you can't find anything on their website,
- 44:56Speaker 4: I just give them a call and like ask, like, hey,
- 44:59Speaker 4: you guys do organized play for Altered, And I'll either
- 45:03Speaker 4: say no, but you know, you're the fourth person to
- 45:06Speaker 4: ask about this maybe we should or they might say, oh,
- 45:10Speaker 4: we do, but we forgot to put the event up.
- 45:12Speaker 4: So I think those are really good ways to get
- 45:16Speaker 4: started community wise. And then there are a ton of
- 45:20Speaker 4: people that will give you free comments and even free
- 45:23Speaker 4: rares if you need help building up.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Your absolute question for you weird question, you're your uh,
- 45:39Speaker 3: I'm looking for your Remember that you had those two
- 45:42Speaker 3: cosplayers come out packs, Yes, and then you're like, oh,
- 45:46Speaker 3: they've been posting in the in the main alter shure
- 45:50Speaker 3: they post anymore.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Yeah, here, here, and there. They go through cycles of
- 45:59Speaker 4: you know, versus stuff and then magic stuff. Magic, of
- 46:04Speaker 4: course is the main red winner. I'm sure for them,
- 46:09Speaker 4: but I see them pop up everyone. It's in a while.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Both of them did card reveals for the set, and.
- 46:16Speaker 3: So what you're tying is we've been bumped to the
- 46:19Speaker 3: sixty ninth position. I don't know, you don't know.
- 46:24Speaker 4: I don't know. We'll see my YouTube's growing steam. Maybe
- 46:28Speaker 4: I'll get us up there eventually, so.
- 46:32Speaker 3: I might be able to get to number sixty two.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Yep. And I don't know. If it's just us three
- 46:40Speaker 4: for the foreseeable future, then it's the three best friends
- 46:45Speaker 4: against the world. So hell yeah is there? So we
- 46:53Speaker 4: covered money, which I think is the main aspect playing online.
- 46:57Speaker 4: All of us recommend it. It's really good if you
- 47:00Speaker 4: hop in our discord. I'm trying more often to do
- 47:04Speaker 4: like casual play knights, where anyone can hop in and
- 47:10Speaker 4: if they want to play against me, like I'll be like,
- 47:13Speaker 4: what do you want to play against? What do you
- 47:14Speaker 4: want to test? And then if we get enough people,
- 47:17Speaker 4: it usually turns out to where if I'm in a
- 47:20Speaker 4: game with someone else and there's two other people waiting,
- 47:23Speaker 4: they'll just play against each other. So it's really cool
- 47:27Speaker 4: that way. And then yeah, if you have a local scene.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Or I'm just gonna put this out there, I know
- 47:33Speaker 3: that there's the Altered Corner discord. There's also the Archives
- 47:38Speaker 3: Corner discord. I have set it up in a way
- 47:42Speaker 3: that if you don't want to see KeyForge stuff, which
- 47:47Speaker 3: is perfectly fine, you can choose a role, you can
- 47:51Speaker 3: choose whether you want to go for Altered or KeyForge.
- 47:57Speaker 3: I'm more in that server than i I'm in this server.
- 48:03Speaker 3: I'm always cut it down to play. If you catch
- 48:07Speaker 3: me on a good time, I poke around. Hear it
- 48:10Speaker 3: from here and there. So there are people over there
- 48:13Speaker 3: who play. It is not as a robust community as
- 48:17Speaker 3: it is in this community, however, you know, well, we'll
- 48:23Speaker 3: see how it goes here in the near future.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, if there are people that listen to
- 48:28Speaker 4: Arcon's Corner and are listening to Altered Corner because it's
- 48:32Speaker 4: part of the same family, but they're not in the
- 48:35Speaker 4: Altered Corner discord. I'm in the Arkons Corner discord. I
- 48:40Speaker 4: just don't post as much in the altered area because
- 48:43Speaker 4: usually no one interacts.
- 48:45Speaker 3: And he's got full control over the altered area.
- 48:48Speaker 4: So you do have questions. If you're in the Arcons
- 48:52Speaker 4: Corner and you want anything, feel free to tag me
- 48:55Speaker 4: anytime or more people just start posting in there, you'll
- 48:59Speaker 4: probably see me respond. So I I get people not
- 49:04Speaker 4: wanting to join multiple discords. So if you if you
- 49:07Speaker 4: are already in a discord that I'm also in, just
- 49:10Speaker 4: find me.
- 49:11Speaker 3: I do not mind if people just try another discord
- 49:14Speaker 3: and start.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Stacking that make make folders.
- 49:18Speaker 3: Learn how to stack your stack your folders. I folders, Ye,
- 49:22Speaker 3: me too.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I have a folder with multiple folders in it.
- 49:25Speaker 3: I have a foul. You have a folder with folders? Yeah,
- 49:29Speaker 3: you savage pretty sure our older did we cover everything?
- 49:34Speaker 3: I feel like we covered set one er set to
- 49:38Speaker 3: in the approach to buying when we kind of went
- 49:40Speaker 3: through your tears.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I I will be the one person that probably
- 49:47Speaker 4: sells Trial by Frost harder than most. I think it's
- 49:51Speaker 4: because it is a smaller set, but I think people
- 49:55Speaker 4: are so set in their decks from beyond the Gate
- 49:57Speaker 4: that they're kind of scared to new things and lose.
- 50:01Speaker 4: But as we mentioned earlier, I ain't got nowhere to
- 50:05Speaker 4: go but up. I literally threw it out that I
- 50:10Speaker 4: will test decks for people on my main account if
- 50:13Speaker 4: they don't want to tank their record. And someone thought
- 50:16Speaker 4: I was joking and they were like, will you test
- 50:17Speaker 4: this deck? I was like, yep, tell me when, I'll
- 50:19Speaker 4: fucking do it, Like I will lose you if you
- 50:22Speaker 4: want me to. I ain't joking.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Listen, you can't get better unless you try, right, So
- 50:33Speaker 3: I mean you get win rate is nothing but a number, right,
- 50:38Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter on BGA, It really honestly doesn't.
- 50:42Speaker 3: What matters is the tournaments. BGA should literally be your
- 50:47Speaker 3: testing ground as to where you are playing around, testing
- 50:53Speaker 3: new decks, seeing what happens, seeing what works, seeing what doesn't,
- 50:57Speaker 3: because none of those matter. It's not like you're going
- 51:00Speaker 3: to show up to the big alterned event and they're
- 51:02Speaker 3: going to be like, what's your e l O? Because
- 51:04Speaker 3: that should don't matter. You're you're still going to be
- 51:07Speaker 3: set up against whoever you're set up against or regardless
- 51:10Speaker 3: of what you are online. So test new stuff, get
- 51:14Speaker 3: out there, try some new things. Are we ready to
- 51:18Speaker 3: go into Patreon questions?
- 51:20Speaker 4: I think so?
- 51:21Speaker 3: All right. Question one comes from our boy draconis which
- 51:25Speaker 3: hero that you don't normally use? Do you want to
- 51:28Speaker 3: try and make work with this new set?
- 51:34Speaker 2: I've been playing a lot of guel ring. I copied Cole.
- 51:38Speaker 4: You didn't like my deck, so you made your own.
- 51:42Speaker 2: I made my own. It's very similar. It was just
- 51:45Speaker 2: with the separate rids and new uniques that I had.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I think the comment set was pretty much the same.
- 51:51Speaker 4: Yeah, you should. You should post your deck in the
- 51:54Speaker 4: audience so I can take a look for deck.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Yeah, in a while, I haven't really tried anything, but
- 52:01Speaker 3: I told you guys what I want to build, and
- 52:03Speaker 3: it's gonna be a Yazmir build, right. I just wow, Wow,
- 52:12Speaker 3: out of nowhere. I'm not out of nowhere.
- 52:15Speaker 4: I know what you're talking about now me.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Yeah you, I would say, mere Dexter, because I agree, Dexter.
- 52:21Speaker 4: Fuck you want to be the evilest bastard around.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Listen. I've discussed this on other shows. I just want
- 52:31Speaker 3: to get my maximum altered time with all of my
- 52:36Speaker 3: altered friends, right, and if along the way like all
- 52:43Speaker 3: your stories, right, Like, that's that's all I'm here for,
- 52:47Speaker 3: is getting maximum altered time. I do this in key
- 52:51Speaker 3: Forge too, So it's gonna be Yazmir. I don't know.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I think I really want. I want it to be Akesha.
- 53:01Speaker 3: That's why I want it to be. Is it going
- 53:05Speaker 3: to end up being her? I don't know, but I
- 53:09Speaker 3: think is the right call?
- 53:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 53:11Speaker 3: I do.
- 53:12Speaker 4: I do have a follow up question, though, what is
- 53:16Speaker 4: the what is the plan when I quit this podcast? What?
- 53:21Speaker 3: I don't know. I guess you know what it means.
- 53:26Speaker 3: I hate as I guess it's the Wookie show. Listen.
- 53:30Speaker 3: I died at Arkans Corner by myself for a year.
- 53:33Speaker 3: I could do this show for a year.
- 53:35Speaker 4: All right, I believe. As for Dexter's Gold Ring Deck,
- 53:40Speaker 4: why do you need Akesha?
- 53:43Speaker 2: Because it just takes forever.
- 53:45Speaker 4: I've talked about this so much, even on this podcast,
- 53:48Speaker 4: I am known as an Aksha hater.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Like, what do you like about this game? Then you're like, man,
- 53:55Speaker 3: I hate artists, Man, I hate Akesha.
- 53:58Speaker 4: I hate artists on a philosophy style level. I hate
- 54:03Speaker 4: actually playing against Akesha. I don't like artists because I
- 54:08Speaker 4: don't like politicians. I don't like bureaucrats. I don't like
- 54:11Speaker 4: the law. But I actually never complained about Warrio with
- 54:15Speaker 4: Robin Hood.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Yes you did.
- 54:23Speaker 4: It was it was really not me. But am I
- 54:26Speaker 4: glad that it happened? Yes, because I feel like the
- 54:29Speaker 4: meta got way more interesting after that. But as for
- 54:35Speaker 4: Dexter's glorying deck, the only thing that I would see
- 54:38Speaker 4: maybe you have uh an opportunity to change is the
- 54:43Speaker 4: keylon burst like bursts. But other than that, I like
- 54:51Speaker 4: that you don't have sticky notes because I feel like
- 54:53Speaker 4: if you have teamwork in Geyser, you don't need sticky notes.
- 54:57Speaker 4: And you're just very lucky to have three rare the
- 55:00Speaker 4: mobile armory.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Because I, yes, I have one extra, you want one?
- 55:05Speaker 4: Uh, maybe we'll see. I might borrow it to finish
- 55:09Speaker 4: my video and be done with ortists forever. As for
- 55:14Speaker 4: a quick answer to why I hate Akesha is, I
- 55:19Speaker 4: had a period of time where for some reason I
- 55:23Speaker 4: was the only person on the cast getting matched up
- 55:25Speaker 4: against kadegear celebration day at Kesha and their whole point
- 55:30Speaker 4: is to just make it so you cannot play, you
- 55:33Speaker 4: cannot advance, and they will hold you hostage in the
- 55:36Speaker 4: game as long as possible, and I played a fifty
- 55:39Speaker 4: four minute game against Akesha uh.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Huh, and then you played like a forty minute against
- 55:45Speaker 2: me when I had the exact same bill.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Yeah. So anyways, my answer.
- 55:52Speaker 3: This, it's just quality time with your altered friends.
- 55:56Speaker 4: If it's Dexter, If it's Dexter or you, I will
- 56:00Speaker 4: grind my teeth and play through it. But if it's
- 56:02Speaker 4: some random a moment I finished that game, I'm giving
- 56:06Speaker 4: them a thumbs down and saying I, personally, wow, I'm
- 56:11Speaker 4: not tanking their karma. I'm not mean like that. I'm
- 56:15Speaker 4: just saying I put thumbs down, I personally never want
- 56:19Speaker 4: to play with this person again. There, it gives you
- 56:21Speaker 4: the option to say if they're a bad person or
- 56:24Speaker 4: you just don't want to see them again, and I
- 56:26Speaker 4: pick the lesser of two evils. My answer is Bassira,
- 56:33Speaker 4: and Bassira is what I will be working on.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. I actually made a Basia dick. I
- 56:38Speaker 2: don't know where it is now, but.
- 56:40Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I actually I have one that I made
- 56:45Speaker 4: that I played in like a wall and aces, and
- 56:49Speaker 4: it just was not doing very well. I actually changed
- 56:55Speaker 4: I changed it for the episode of Deck swapped with
- 56:58Speaker 4: Keelon guy. Well, it's basically this. I'll post it in
- 57:03Speaker 4: the audience, but you'll anyone listening, you'll see my Besierra
- 57:07Speaker 4: deck eventually in Trial by Frost. Other obvious answer is Tasia,
- 57:13Speaker 4: which is not a new hero, but I feel like
- 57:17Speaker 4: how she can play in Trial by Frost is a
- 57:20Speaker 4: lot different and I'm really enjoying the direction I'm taking
- 57:25Speaker 4: my Tasia deck. I just need more rares, so.
- 57:30Speaker 3: I'll see what I got for you.
- 57:33Speaker 4: I don't know what I got in Trial by Frost.
- 57:36Speaker 3: Oh, I don't got anything.
- 57:38Speaker 4: Yeah. I did trade to get another rare a clue today,
- 57:42Speaker 4: so that's.
- 57:44Speaker 3: I haven't I haven't gotten around to adding any Trial
- 57:47Speaker 3: by Frost to my collection.
- 57:49Speaker 2: I have like no Bravos rares. Yeah, my Besira deck
- 57:56Speaker 2: has a thirty nine cards and only seven rares.
- 58:04Speaker 3: All right, all right, this comes from our next Patreon
- 58:08Speaker 3: Pan Pan, Now that it's been out for a week.
- 58:10Speaker 3: What what's a card that completely surprised you in tbfm
- 58:18Speaker 3: oklet bro.
- 58:19Speaker 2: I hate that card. Act is so strong in both
- 58:25Speaker 2: the Sierra and Tasia, and it's probably great in Kojo too.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Just annihilate your opponent's reserve. It's pretty much sabotage because
- 58:34Speaker 2: then they can only play cards from hand and then
- 58:37Speaker 2: at the end they're gonna have to discard down to two.
- 58:40Speaker 2: I hate it. Yeah, so good.
- 58:43Speaker 4: This is gonna sound smug or something. I don't know.
- 58:49Speaker 4: I think I was ready for the cards that I
- 58:55Speaker 4: am using and I'm most excited excited about. Like if
- 58:58Speaker 4: you go back to the spoiler cast, I set off
- 59:01Speaker 4: the bat YETI is gonna be fucking great. And yes,
- 59:05Speaker 4: I love Yetti. It's in my Teja deck. It's amazing.
- 59:08Speaker 4: I will say, I didn't expect to be as excited
- 59:13Speaker 4: about a clute, but I love them now. One of
- 59:18Speaker 4: my new best friends, I think, probably so s Ow
- 59:25Speaker 4: is probably the one that surprised me the most because
- 59:28Speaker 4: I didn't even really look at it too much until
- 59:31Speaker 4: I saw it being used in a tournament. The Yeizmeir
- 59:37Speaker 4: like side of that would be Rhyan Frost. Both of
- 59:40Speaker 4: those cards, I think kind of surprised me on how
- 59:44Speaker 4: good that they are. But I should have known from
- 59:48Speaker 4: the start, you know. One, Man of cards are almost
- 59:53Speaker 4: always good in some fashion. I think just during the
- 59:57Speaker 4: spoiler cast and during the reveals, they weren't super flashy
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: and exciting, so they just kind of flew under the radar.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: Sure, uh, all right, I am going in a different direction.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: You guys both went gameplay. I'm going with lore. Okay,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: that's Little match Girl.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: So if you guys follow Altered TCG on Twitter today,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: they had released the Little match Girl and Naiyalla Gifted Conjurer.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I don't know why they put the wrong image on
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: it or something.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they did.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a mix up. So now the joke is
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: that Little match Girl is like a shape shifter or yeah.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but I want I want I want to see
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: how this story plays out right, and I want more
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: information on Little match Girl and why in the unique
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: her ghost brother is there?
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: Yeah, that unique art is insane.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: I will tell you what your favorite card is in
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: tra By Frost. Start playing it, Woiki, it'll be Snowball Commando.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Snowball Commando.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Yes, that card is so much fun and I think
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: you will enjoy it.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: I probably will. All right.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: It literally like mimics what it would feel like to
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: get in a snowball fight.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: So all right, what do we got next here? All right?
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: With Altered Commons and Rares being so cheap. Do you
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: think that the current asking price for higher tier uniques
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: is justifiable?
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: No?
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Do you think? All right, do we want to go
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: down these one at a time, because there's multiple questions in
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: this one. For me, let's do one so do I
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: Do you feel that the current is justifiable?
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: Yeah? No, that one's an easy No. I have been
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: like the champion in the discord telling people not to
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: buy uniques for prices that people are selling them. I'm like,
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: don't pay that, don't pay that, and when the market
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: comes out, it's going to balance things out a lot more.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: But I have always thought they were way over inflated,
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: so market it will not be that crazy. I basically
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: one guarantee it. And if someone lists a unique or
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: way overpriced, it just won't sell.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: It'll just yeah, yeah, nobody will it.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: That that one is easy to me.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: No, all right, fair enough? I agree, I think we
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: all agree, and I feel like keeping the game a
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: little bit more affordable is a thing, especially like I mean,
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: you look at other games that are so expensive. I mean,
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: magic is an animal all its own, but like I mean,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: if you take a look at you gi oh and
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: flesh and Blood is always the one that pops to
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: mind because like they just the gear in that game
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: is so damn expensive. I don't know where it's at now,
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: but I remember when I was playing it, it was
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: like many time for three hundred dollars and it's like hard,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: it's so hard to find, and it's like I hate
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: when card games make staples that just like they're a
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: few hundred dollars and it's like why, yeah, if you're
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: if it's going to be a staple, it needs to
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: be like readily accessible because now now it's a game
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: of who's got I despise game where I despise paid
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: to win games. I just don't like them. I get
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: there has to be like money involved in this and whatnot,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: for for the people, you know, for for the people
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: making the game, but the secondary market does not irritates.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: Whether the secondary market makes the main company or TCG
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: more money.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: Is the secondary market never makes the company more money. Right,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: people are possible. You can argue all you want, and
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: I'm going to point you know one thing. Yeah, well,
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: as far as the competitive scene goes, I'll point you
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: and I say this time and time again, go look
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: at Pokemon. There is there is a way to balance it,
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: and Pokemon still to this day, does the best job
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: of balancing expensive cards that people go searching for and
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: being able to have a very healthy competitive atmosphere. They're
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: just there. They did it right. But do you think
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: prizing at large events should be determining should be a
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: determining factor in the cost of competitive card games or
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: Think it is in any card game really, I mean,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: decks are going to cost more than what the prizing
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: you're getting. Is people make decks because they like the
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: decks and they want to win. It's not just all
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: about the prizing. Well, I mean sure in magic the
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: prizing probably makes up for it, but I don't.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: So the way the way to look at this question
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: and break it down because I read it like three
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: times to really.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I was I was about to read it because I
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: was like, what is the question asked?
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: So there are gcgs. I don't have any example at
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: the top of my head, but we'll say someone can
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: win a magic event with a deck that cost them
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: a couple grands, right, likeeah, very very easy to do
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: in magic, probably which their deck might have cost more
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: than what they won from the magic tournament. Itself. It's
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: very possible. So that's kind of what this question is asking.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: And should we see the cost of competitive altered cards
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: mirror like what the prize is offered in I worded
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: that terribly anyways, I will say, and this is something
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: that I actively try to combat the mentality behind. I
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: think people need to accept and understand that Altered is
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: trying to be different from most TCGs. And one of
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: the big things about that is how easy it is
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: to get cards and the fact that there are not
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: like rare chase cards.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Essentially, there does need to be a really but there
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: does need to be a balance, right because and I
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: don't know if the uniques necessarily do that because of
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: how many bad uniques there are out there, but like,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: there does need to be a balance, right, There needs
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: to be some good chase cards that people will crack
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: packs for, right.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: So coming down to like and the reason and I
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: say Pokemon does this so well is like they'll have
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: like an altered can one thousand percent do this? Right? Like,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: this is well within their scope and their range foils, right,
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Like look at Pokemon, right, all these foils that are
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: going for Big Bucke Rooney's are not competitive, no one's
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: playing them, and then the cards that are being played
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: are relatively affordable, and then when the price gets a
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: little crazy, they release it in a starter deck. Yeah,
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: you know. So there is a way to balance this
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: and make it so that people crack packs so that
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: the game store and the printer of the game is
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: happy and the consumer, the end consumer is happy as well,
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: and the secondary markets happy.
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: I think the gap is a lot smaller and altered.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: You're always going to have the uniques, and you're going
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: to have people that seek out very specific uniques and
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: drap money on them. But at the same time, you're
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: going to have someone who, if they don't win first,
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: they're in the top four with uniques that they just
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: opened naturally. So the uniques are always going to be
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: a chase thing. Rares themselves, you do have to open
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: packs or buy boxes, but it's not gonna be ever
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: I think in my mind where you're gonna have to
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: spend one hundred dollars for this rare that completes your deck.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: I think you can get a full placet of commons
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: and rares for fifty dollars easily, and then if you
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: want a semi competitive deck. Spending another fifty dollars on
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: three uniques is fine if you want it to be
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: like super Good, it's probably like two hundred plus a unique.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: But it all depends on what deck you're building. And
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: it's always possible to have an off meta strategy that
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: nobody expected that.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: That's cool things, sure, but I think and again this,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: I think this is well within their wheelhouse. You can
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: make the special cards, but also then make the printing,
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: you know, especially if a card becomes crazy, right, Like
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: you know, all the all the Pokemon cards that are
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: going for Big Buck Rooney's are again not meta relevant,
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: but they're sought after because of their collectibility, their art,
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: so on and so forth. They have just normal versions
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: of these cards that don't go for a lot. So
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: I think if Altered can find that balance of like
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: people wanting to crack packs for more, for more than uniques, right,
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: maybe some special foiling, some special treatments, alternate art. I know,
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: art in this game is the art budget has to
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: be insane in this game. You know, maybe specialized tokens
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: that can come in, you know, whatever the case may be.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: They definitely, I think it's definitely in their Wheelhouse. I
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: don't know how much Asthma Day has their their I
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: guess the only real way to say it is clause
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: stuck into this. Yeah, I hope.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: But my understanding, the only real control that Asthma Day
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: has is distribution.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: How it's going to ask that, is it just they're
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: just doing distribution?
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, as far as I know which just distribution is.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: It's it's a lot. Like it's a lot, and there's
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: a lot of things that are pain points and altered
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: are because of Asthma Day being the distributor. But I
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: think creatively and like what cards they put in and
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: foils in the design of the game, I think a
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: lot of that is one equinox. The other thing is
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: from my experience, they also control a lot of their
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: own events and Asthma Day doesn't really have too much
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: of a hand in that. So, like for packs on Plugged,
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: we were doing a draft with like the staff and
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: we took a box of booster packs because someone told
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: us we could, and then Justin who's the organized play
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: manager of North America, was like, no, you can't take those.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Those are my like marketing funds for like that I
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: use and in the end, it was all just like, oh, hey,
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: Asthma Day is actually giving you all of this stock
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: from them to replace your marketing so they can have
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: that box. So uh, they they've poyed with alt arts
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: here and they're a lot with tokens in the trial
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: by Frost packs you can get alt arts. I think
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: I have almost all of the art alt arts now
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: except for maybe uh, what's her name, Vike or whatever, and.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Of like I got multiple of them.
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I don't have any of her altart.
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: But yeah, they art budget is insane. It's been asked
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: about a lot doing different Tiro costumes and things like that,
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: and I will say that they are very good at
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: listening and that is all I will say.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so we'll kind of see how it goes. I
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: feel like there's definitely a way they could do it
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: now with it already being out again. This game seems
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: to be very very popular overseas and then has kind
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: of a lukewarm following in the States.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say right now, the main draw for
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: the game is online. Like the European tournament times are
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: usually still bigger than our North American times. What at
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: a lot of our events on a weekday, you know,
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: six PM are still hitting fifty to eighty people across
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: different events consistently.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: Like every week, so that's pretty good.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Yeah. So while organized play has taking a little time
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: to get up and growing, it's very very healthy online community.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Yep for sure.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: Alrighty we are into events for this week, Cole, What
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: events we got coming up?
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: All right? If you didn't know, didn't watch A Wall
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: kicked off season two? There was the European Time on
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: Monday with Pandy Andy and I believe it was Ruinfolk
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: casting that one. I had a bunch of meetings, so
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: I missed a ton of it, and then on Wednesday
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: the North American Time it was Yours truly and Blue
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: Oak TV casting. It was a very good launch. I
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: believe that you had one hundred players, and I think
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: North America might have hit one hundred as well. Can
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: go to our favorite website, thirty nine cards dot com
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: real quick just to double check fifty fifty one. I
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: don't know why it had. I thought it also got
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: up to one hundred, but that'll be every Monday and Wednesday.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: It's on the Altered Corner website. If you need to
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: find links for information probably after you're already hearing this.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: I will have run a commons only tournament for ACE
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: Altered Corner events on Tuesday night, commons only decks including
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: Beyond the Gates and Trial by Frost and then AQZ
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: which is Keelon Guy and Pandy Andy and some other
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: big names. Professional team, competitive team. Competitive team is probably
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: a better word. They're starting a tournament series that has
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: a cool little boss battle feature built into it. And
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: then for your local events, I've seen some new stuff
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: popping up in San Antonio was it San Antonio? But
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: also El Paso, and I don't have like anyone that
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: I can consistently lean on in those areas to ask questions.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: So if you're in El Paso and you go to
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: the game Vault in El Paso, join the discorder, send
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: me a DM so I can figure out some information
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: and help get that out there. So that should about
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: do it. For events A season three, I don't know
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: pending we'll see DM big Z and bug him repeatedly.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: So yeah, don't don't know what's going on. We're assuming
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: the return will be shortly. We really don't know, so
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: we'll see where ACE goes. But that's gonna do it
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: for us this week. Thank you everybody in the chat
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: for showing up. Appreciate it. Appreciate all the Patreon questions
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: out there. If you guys have show ideas or more
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: Patreon questions, make sure you go give those over to
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: us on the Patreon. Make sure you head over to
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: the website check out all the new stuff, and you know,
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: make sure you go over to the YouTube, YouTube spreaker,
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Apple Music or Apple Podcasts not Apple Music. Make sure
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: leave us a rating, leave us a comment. Go subscribe
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: to Cole's channel. I don't know what it is, Cole,
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: what's your channel?
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: I think it's Cole CCG. But if you just tie
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: altered Gol, Robbie and YouTube, you'll find it.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: There you go, and then go give him a subscribe
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: over there. Leave a comment over at ar cons corner
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: on this episode. That way, maybe we can get into
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: the top seventy. We're working hard, guys, working really hard
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: to get into that top seventy so we can get
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: to you spoilers for next next round of spoilers. We
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: want them bad. We're gonna get there.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: All right. Wish list for twenty five next set.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: We got this, Yeah, I you know who knows, right,
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: Like if you know, I always say, if anything, I
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: love spoilers, but spoilers are such a I'm gonna end
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: it here. Spoilers are fun to get, but they're dog shit.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: And here's why I say that people will come to
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: your episode to hear your spoilers and then never listen
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: to them ever again. This is why in my entire
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: podcasting career, I've always stuck away from doing interviews with
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: big names. I've always stuck away from spoilers, giveaways, all
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: these things. I love giving things away, but people always
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: show you know, people always show up when there's free
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: shit on the line, right or somebody talk. You know,
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: it's just there's this, You get the bump for an
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: episode and then never talk to you again.
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: Yep. Giveaways are especially hard because if it goes to
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: someone that came in just for a giveaway and.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Not and they don't listen ever again, then you feel bad. Yeah,
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: and it's just like, you know, I love doing them
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: and I think they're fun to do, but like in
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: the long run, like all these things really don't help
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: you as a channel. They give you that feels good
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: for the moment and to be honest, if you don't
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: like my personality or Coals or Dexter's or whoever's personality,
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: you're probably not gonna listen to us. And that's fine.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: We're not for everyone. We understand that not really. Cole's nice.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: Cole's a good guy.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: I made someone pretty mad in the discord I think
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: earlier today.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: So you're you're coming along, Cole' We are thrilled with
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: your progress. Welcome to the dark side. Because I know
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: my personality can be quite abrasive.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: I mean, I warn people all the time that I'm
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: a sarcastic asshole. Don't believe me until it happens.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: I am very abrasive. I had somebody at the last
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: tournament I went to for key Forge ask me, was
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: I born an asshole? Or did it take a lot
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: of work? And, to be honest with you, I'm not
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: sure the answer to that question. So with that being said,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: we do appreciate everyone who comes around. We'll be doing
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: this for a while. As long as it alterns around.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Someone will be here to fill your Friday joys and
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: talking to the void that is the trial. What is
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: it called? I'm sorry I almost said crucible and that
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: was wrong. What is the world altered costs oh as Gartha?
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: As Gartha to talking to the void of Asgarth, I
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: totally drew a blanket. All I could think of was crucible,
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: because that's I knew what it was called. I'm like,
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: I know what it's called, and I just now can't remember.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: But that's the kind of humor you get here at
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: Altered Corner. We'll see y'all next week.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: And his WENI siblings, nothing but my children one shot
