- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello guys, welcome back to another episode of Wait What's Next.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Today is gonna be another Sun Low episode.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: It seems the girls can't find a time to meet, and it's okay.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Three more months before the end of the year, and I think we all start to accelerate into the holidays and then finalizing the year.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: It's really crazy.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It's still three months, but people are already on that Christmas mode.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So it's okay.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I still wanted to go on and do a little solo episode.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: I've done one of these ones before.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: It seems it was a good one for people to get to know me a little bit more and just catch up.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: So this is gonna be a little coffee catch-up, touching on different pillars in my life of things that Amanda and I continuously talk about, topics that we go in depth on each episode, and I thought it was a good opportunity for me to sit down and give an update on some of the things that I'm working towards and transitions and moments in between.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So yeah, let's get into it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: First and foremost, if you guys are watching the video, you can see that I'm full on makeup.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm not a makeup person.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've already talked about this before.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I just got down my skincare routine.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I think I know it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Now I can pivot, now I can find new products, but because I know the order and what my skin needs, it's been kind of a fun process to now try different brands, but knowing that my skin is loving them.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So, update on that.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: My skincare routine has been amazing when I'm consistent.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I am consistent, I would say 85 to 90% of the time.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: But sometimes I do what is that saying?
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Follow the train or follow my tracks.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the saying is, but I do sometimes kind of just want to do absolutely nothing and then just let go, but then I go back to it.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So that's really fun.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: But I do have my best friend's wedding coming up in a week, and in this wedding, we are gonna have the opportunity to do our makeup ourselves.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: I've never done a professional makeup on me by myself, done it for me by me.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And while in these other weddings that I attend to that were also really good friends of mine and my other best friend, I liked it, but also there is always this element of surprise and not really vibing fully with the makeup that I get done because I feel that I am somebody else.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: So I'm really trying to go into that no makeup, makeup look.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: But of course, I understand that for a wedding, especially, you do need to have full on makeup because you're gonna be on pictures and you want your face to really show up.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And don't get me wrong, those pictures that I've had of previous weddings, we look amazing.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So I get it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: But this is a challenge for me, and I took the opportunity and did a Sephora haul, which I did a YouTube video on it, and I'm gonna add it to my next blog.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So I'll link that blog in this episode or whenever I release it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: It was very interesting.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I walk into Sephora wondering and kind of wanting to have somebody to help me out, but I was faced with a couple of things.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: One, a few people just didn't really know how to give me direction.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And it's just seemed a little bit guessing game that I was not vibing with because I was really trying to get direction.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: And also, it's kind of like when you go to a hairdresser, or even when you go to a personal trainer, you want to follow what you see on them that you like, and sort of you respect what they look like, or whatever it is that you like, and say, okay, this person can help me because I actually like their fitness or I like their hair, whatever it is.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So for makeup, it's the same.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I kind of wanted to find a girl that I like her makeup, and I was like, okay, she can help me out because I do think that makeup is beautiful and everyone looks beautiful in their own way, but I am not trying to do that for cover extreme look.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And so I finally found a girl.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: She was very helpful, but the only thing I found was that she was trying to push me on one brand.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And I don't really know how Sephora works.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they get commission by sending you in a specific brand, but I kept telling her that I needed-I am all about the green look, the green products, and trying to find something that is more natural and blah blah blah.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: And I kept sending her, I had really good brands that I had listed that I wanted to look into, but she kept sending me to the one brand.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I think I realized it at some point, and I was like, you know what?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna listen to her as to how to do the makeup, all of the tips, what goes first, what goes second, how do I do a full makeup look.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And I grabbed all of that information and then I just went and found the products myself.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: So that was fun.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And then I came home and I said I need to do a full-on makeup.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: There is this one makeup tutorial that Beige Lorenz has on YouTube, and it's a Victoria Secret makeup look, and it's so pretty.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: So I tried that one, except I don't have the eyeshadows, and I was trying to get the blush by Rode.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: She uses another blush in her video, but I it sold out.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: So I couldn't do the full makeup, so it's gonna be game time next week when I have to try it on, but that's the makeup look that I'm gonna do.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: But this is what we're working on.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I think I am happy with the products that I bought, and I'm just excited to not that I'm gonna be doing makeup moving forward, but I do want to sometimes have like a little bit of playtime, and I like to try things on myself that I then I can get to okay, this is what a good makeup look on me.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: So that's the update on that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: It was really fun, it pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I needed to be more aggressive.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I have the type of skin, and I don't know if anybody can relate, but I have the type of skin that really absorbs product, so I have to put a lot of product before you don't even see it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: So I had to be a little bit aggressive, and I used to be very conservative on how I used to go about putting makeup, but today I went all house.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Let's see how it goes on the day of the wedding.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Lauren, I'm doing this one for you.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: I'll get you guys updated on that.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: The second thing that I wanted to talk about was and that Amanda and I have been covering, and we talked about it on our last episode, is my job search.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I have been doing a lot of interviews, and keep in mind that for those who are just jumping into this episode, the reason why I'm looking for a job is not because I don't like my job.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love my company.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I love the team that I work with, I have a really good position, and it's really a good opportunity.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: And I have to be grateful and go from that point because it really isn't the company or anything that they're doing.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: It's just that at some point you have to stand on business and you have to understand what it is that serves you.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: And for me, right now, I need to find a fully remote job with the opportunity to work in the US wherever I am, really.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: But right now I'm trying to move to Hawaii because I'm trying to not be in a long-distance relationship anymore.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: And so that is put me in a situation where I don't need to find a job as soon as possible and be able to make that move.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And I've taken you guys through that journey.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: I will be moving to Hawaii eventually as soon as I get that job.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And so that puts me into the interviewing while having a different job.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: And it's a very interesting concept.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And I tell you why.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: There is a part of me where I feel there is a lack of transparency with my current job because obviously I'm looking for another job while I'm still working with them and planning for the future and doing projects for them and just really acting like I'm gonna be there for many years.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And so it's very interesting.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: And I would love to hear from any of you guys if that's just the way you should do it, or if there is a moment where you need to be honest with your current employer and tell them that this is where you're at.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, part of me always thought if I say something, maybe they say, okay, we can let you work remotely.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: But it's something that is very scary and they are a really good company, so it feels it sucks a little bit to having to do that double agent thing where you're working for them, but you're also looking for the opportunity that fits you.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: But then at the same time, at the end of the day, I do have to make a decision and advocate for what I need.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And so that puts me into the box of interviewing while I have a job.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And then on the interview side, I've been having really, really good interviews with amazing companies because I am looking more into that startup growing company space.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And a lot of in a lot of companies that are emerging right now are in the AI space.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: It really has trained me to position myself for that role that I'm looking for.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I'm going to level up.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: So I need to show up as the role that I want to get rather than the role that I already have.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And it's given me a learning experience as to how to have conversations with high executive teams, how to prepare for this type of interviews.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: It's also shown me that I talk about this on our previous episode more in-depth, but something that I really wanted to touch on is it really has shown me that I have the ability to really go for those roles.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: I have proved to myself that I'm ready.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Life is just like that.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: You are not born knowing how to do a job.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: You have to start somewhere, and then you get to be an expert.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I've noticed that I do have the ability to enter this new level of my career with the caliber of the conversations that I'm having and the interviews that I'm holding.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I really have proved to myself that I'm ready, which is really, really excited.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And I even surprised myself as to how I've shown up and done so well in these interview processes.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: It hasn't worked out because timing, really.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Some companies are really the two companies that I've gone to final stages, they have paused the role because they said that we have three more months and they're waiting for the new year, which makes sense.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: In the beginning, it's a hard pill to swallow because you have prepared so much and I really have sort of left everything on the table and felt really, really good about it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: So when it doesn't work out, even though it's really timing, there is nothing else that I could have done to change their minds.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: It is business, and companies are gonna do what they need to do to survive and to make the best decisions from a business level.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I'd be working on not taking a personal.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: It's easier said than done.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: I do give myself a day to do a PD party and just process the news once they tell you no, we're gonna pause or you know, we're not moving forward.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: But then I realize that the learning experience is much better than no.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And so I'm just gonna continue doing it.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: It's all timing, and the right company is gonna say yes, and I'm gonna be able to do it.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Takeaway from here is that there are possibilities that I am able to execute on those interviews, and I have the potential for those roles that I'm going for.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm just gonna keep going.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: And for anybody who's going through the same situation, if you're changing jobs, chipping careers for whatever reason, keep going.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Don't stop.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Take it as a learning experience.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: If every no should be more motivation because it's bringing you closer to your yes, and you only need to be right once.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: You only need one yes.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, you're gonna get many no's before you get there.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: So I just want to stay vulnerable through my process to help anybody who's out there and who needs to hear it and you're not alone.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: I also opted to enjoy my time with this company.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: We have a fun Christmas event coming up at the end of the year, so I'm focusing on that as well.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And while I work on my future, I need to make sure that I am enjoying my present.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Which brings me to my next date that I wanted to talk about, and is not specifically talking about my relationship because I do transparently like to keep that private, but it's not news that I'm doing long distance.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And I've seen so many posts, I don't know, the algorithm really got me.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: So so many people talking about how to manage long distance relationships and going through it, it really does help when other people talk about it and they say things that really hit home in the way that I'm feeling.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I feel like it's just me.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: And then when somebody else put it in their own words, I'm like, oh no, we're going through it together.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: A little update here: the more time goes by, it does get harder and harder, especially because I know that the long distance will end the moment that I get my job.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: So it's a lot of pressure.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: I've had to take a step back and separate the two.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: I have to focus on getting my job, just focusing on that in my career and doing it for me, separate it from my relationship, because when you smoosh it all together, it can become a little bit hard and there's just too much pressure to deal with, honestly.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: And so you do have to compartmentalize these different sections of your life to be able to just hone in on each of them as you go.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And for my long distance, I have been just looking at what makes me feel closer to my person and what do I need, and what does he need, so then we can both navigate this.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: The beautiful thing is that we have been together for a while now, so it's not a matter of keeping the connection or making sure that we continue knowing each other because we do know each other pretty well, and it's really good also that our friends and family are kind of already interconnected, and so that helps us feel we're together even when we're far away.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: And that's something that I've been focusing a lot.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: I am very close to his family.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: I feel a little bit of him is here with me because I get to see them.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: And I've also been able to always go and visit him.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: There are a few tips that people use for long distance, and I think I've listened to those, and we were already doing them, but once I heard it, I was like, oh wow, that makes sense.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: So, for instance, the moment that you say goodbye, don't wait for a few hours.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: So you're at the airport.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Don't wait for a few hours before you have communication.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Something that my boyfriend has been really good at, and I don't even know if he noticed this, but obviously we say bye at the airport, and it's really sad.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And every time we say goodbye at the airport, it becomes it's been sadder and sadder and sadder as time moves forward.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I cry every time.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Realistically, I'm not gonna lie to you guys, I do cry.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: But then I go into security and then just kind of doing those technical things kind of help me just focus on that.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: But the moment I literally, the moment I leave, a few minutes go by and he decks me immediately.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: And I think that really helps me feel that he's still there.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's kind of that feeling of somebody said it perfectly.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, I just went from seeing my boyfriend now, he's gonna live on my phone.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And it's so true, right?
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Because the only way that I'm gonna see him is either video call or texting.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: He lives in my phone.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: But I do feel that separation anxiety that happens as soon as you say goodbye, it's mitigated by having contact immediately, which is really nice.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Another thing that really helps is the planning something and knowing that you're gonna see each other or when you will see each other next.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: That's always nice because it gives that waiting game a purpose.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And you know that you're gonna go back to your lives, but you know that you're looking forward to that next time.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And that's something that not that we were doing that intentionally, but it just kind of was working out that either I was gonna go visit him and he was gonna go here.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: And we always say, like, okay, I'll see you there, or I'll see you that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And so I think that is really helpful.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And then the third thing that I heard and that is really helpful for me, and that I've been doing again, not really intentionally, but just happening, is focusing on my life and his focusing on his life.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Even though you are together, yes, you're working towards something together, but it doesn't mean that the life that you're living at HIO places, it doesn't matter anymore.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And it's just you just can't be living in a mindset of yearning to be with that person all the time because it's a mindset that is gonna put you down no matter what.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: For instance, I love my podcast, I love this initiative.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: I am working towards making it grow, and I'm really passionate about it, and there's just this fire in me that is really, really excited about what I'm doing here, and that keeps me very busy and motivated.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: So that's really good.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I'm also working, I am very focused on my wellness, on my routine, trying new things.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I've been wanting to take tennis classes, and I am gonna start doing those soon.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So really getting a life for me here that I love is really helpful because then I'm not just waiting for the next interaction and then just for us to talk all the time because he's very busy too.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: So it helps create expectations of this is when we talk, and other than that, like I'm busy and I'm doing my life.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: What I again going back to that, I am working towards something, but I still need to enjoy and live my life right now.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: So that's very important, and then also something that is very helpful on my side mostly is knowing when I'm gonna have communication with him.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: So he's really good at like texting me and stuff like that, with schedules being busy and sometimes not matching each other.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I just know that, oh, he's gonna call me at the end of the night before I go to bed, and that is also very helpful to have that expectation.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: So I hope that anybody who's going through long distance can also relate.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I hope that this is helpful.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: And again, you're not going alone through it, and we're gonna get there.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: So hope this is helpful.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: And the last thing that I wanted to touch on is my Pilates era, which I feel I was self-lunching it, but now I'm fully in it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: And also my routine and how is changing in terms of wellness.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I used to do Pilates here and there, probably once a week, or I don't know, sometimes it will go for full time and reformer Pilates.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I did incorporate a couple of Pilates class at my house just from like a YouTube video, which they're really good.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: I am gonna link the girl that I use because she's gonna make you cry, but also you're gonna love her.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: These past couple of weeks, I paid for uh unlimited membership for two weeks for one of this Pilates studio, and I really notice the difference in my body when I do consistently Pilates more than a few days a week.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: The reason why I wanted to bring that up is because if anybody's looking to slow down, and don't get me wrong, I still do strength training a couple of days a week because strength training, there's nothing like strength training.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: You need that for your muscles, it's also really good for your brain, and it's good for really long-term longevity.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I noticed that also my body sometimes is overwhelmed by a lot.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And I used to do a lot of high-intense interval training, and so I have been kind of just now introducing this Pilates, which is still, but there's high intense, but it's low impact.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: And I feel especially for anxiety or feeling that you're running around all the time and there's stress, doing intense workouts only creates more stress and more cortisol in your body.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: So I've been really trying to slow down while getting a good workout.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna sit here and say that I was not as skeptical about Pilates.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I thought it was just a movement and just a cool thing to do and what the next girl is doing.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: But now that I've been doing consistently, I've been doing it these past four weeks, I'm doing it every day.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: So I really have felt that I'm getting that more lean but very toned look.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I feel like my body is loving it because it's a slow movement.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: I'm strength training, but I'm not putting so much impact and stress on my body while doing it.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: And it's also psychologically a really easy workout to adopt because I much rather get up and start a slow workout like a reformer Pilates class than wake up at 6 a.m.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: in the morning and have to start jumping and doing burpees and just crazy workouts.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: The transition is really intense.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: So even from a psychological perspective, it's so much easier to get your mindset into a Pilates class than any other type of workout.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: So that's my laptop there.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: As we transition into fall, I am trying to do most of my heavy and intense routines working out in the morning.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I've been doing that, but I think I'm being more intentional during this time because it's gonna start getting dark sooner in the afternoon and when we come home from work, or even if you work remotely or whatever it is.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I think getting to move your body later at nighttime with the cold is that much harder because you're already done with the day.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: And I love having a very slow afternoon where I can enjoy being at home and being warm and cozy and not having to think about having to work out because my movement is going to be done no matter what, and that's my mindset.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: So I give myself a little peace of mind by changing my routine a little bit during the fall and winter in a way that I don't stop movement, but I do it in the best possible way.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: So those are the four pillars that I wanted to talk about today.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I wanted to give a little update.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: We will be coming back with Amanda next week and just touching on some fun little topics.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: I want to dive more into long distance relationships because she's done long distance and I've done long distance, and I feel like this is a good one that we haven't really talked about.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: So maybe we can get in depth on that one more.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: But I hope you guys enjoyed this one as usual.
