Transcript
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: Hey besties, today we have a very uh exciting, energetic, charismatic woman joining us.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: Uh she's kind of new to me.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: I met her in the spring at She Leeds, but um we had an instant connection and she's just got an energy and a light about her that I need to share with you all.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: Her name is Janelle Karst.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: Did I say that right?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you did.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna let Janelle I I've tried to step away from formal uh introductions.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: So, Janelle, welcome to the Found Her podcast, to the bestie club.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna just hear from you and give us a little bit of context, a little bit about your journey, and then we can kind of just uh shoot the shit from there.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, um, Kim, I'm so happy to be here.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And hello to all the listeners.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Um, I heard you speak and I just is like, I need to be around this human, like her energy and stories.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: So thank you for having me.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Um, so my journey, um, well, I was born on a spring day, no just joking.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Um, people say tell me about yourself.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I don't know, you want my childhood trauma?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I know I thought I could go a lot of ways here.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Tell me a little bit.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: It says you left home at 15.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Let's start there.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: So I was raised in a pretty restrictive religious um environment.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And so that had me removed from that at about age 11.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And then by the time my 15th birthday, it was time for me to go out into the world on my own, apparently.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So that's where my life sort of started, and it was a big journey and lots of stories and lots of decisions made and hanging out with all sorts of interesting groups and and organizations because what do we all want?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: We want to find our place in the world, right?
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: We all want a sense of belonging, which is funny that you said you grew up in a fairly strict environment, which makes people think that you had a sense of belonging, but it was controlled belonging.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Not choice and going out into the world and being like, you know, what does success look like for me?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: What does success look for my life and for someone like me?
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: So yeah, over the course of uh a big journey, I found myself on the island.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And I realized that I really loved the idea of business and bringing value to the world and creating things.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So I went to business school.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And that's uh sort of where my passion for productivity and for, you know, personal development, professional development, mentorship, all that kind of stuff came into play.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: And so when you kind of like decided you wanted to go into business, being on your own at 15, how did you find yourself to be able to get clear on what you wanted?
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Were you working?
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Did you access student funding?
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: Did you find somebody to help you along?
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Like I know for me, um, you know, as a street kid, high school dropout, all that kind of stuff.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Like there was a few pivotal moments in that kind of 18 to 22 phase that that kind of changed direction for me, or course corrected.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, you talked a little bit about uh off screen about uh a lot of black doors.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: So where did where did you find yourself?
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Uh how did you find yourself fitting in in that space and to know that you want to go to business school?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Um probably not gonna love the answer up here, but I I I was opened a lot of black doors that weren't the right fit for me.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: But at the time they were what is available to me.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's what I mean, right?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Like yeah, um, so I mean, I I had business experience, but not stuff you would probably put on your resume.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, and so it was like I knew that I loved going out and connecting with people.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: I knew that people would come up to me and be like, I never told anyone this before.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Or wow, that really inspired me.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do this.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: And I just like with chatting, you know, and just being me and my energy.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And over time, I'm like, wait a minute, like I feel like there's a calling here for me.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's sort of where I kind of went into business.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I'm like, how can I actually help people?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Like, what can I do with people that can use what I've built, but in a in a more beneficial way?
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: That's kind of how I feel with franchising.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: People ask me all the time, it's very weird.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I'm a franchisor and also in a trades business, and it's not really uh female, it doesn't have like a lot of female attractiveness to it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: And people are like, why that?
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Like, that's not like a sexy female business.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, because at the bottom line, it it the bottom line is I love to help humans build better lives.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: And through the course of my lifetime, it doesn't matter what vehicle I use to do that.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Doors are extremely profitable, and that allows people to make wealth changes in their life and earning changes and things like that.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: But at the end of the day, it's still people helping people, me helping people uh build better lives.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: And so the vehicle in itself has changed over the years.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Before it used to be a social worker, before that, it was within my children's lives and the work I poured into them.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: And before that, it was the popcorn business.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Like other stay-at-home moms, like it's so it changes, it shifts and changes.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: And so I I like what you said.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: So tell me a little bit about you called yourself a corporate maven, and we were talking a little bit beforehand, and I thought this would be a really great topic is to talk about your experience as a corporate maven as you called yourself, but also you are extremely passionate about your business.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: So you do work corporately and you have a business, and there's a lot of pressure, I think, on women who want I would say also women that are a little bit older and now wanting to just really do what lights them up, let's say, and passion, but typically, which ends up typically being a coaching consulting kind of because it's person-to-person making impact, but they have a lot of pressure to go all in and get rid of the corporate career to do that, or you know, leave all that behind and go all in.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: But sometimes those coaching businesses can be a little bit harder to build financially.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: So tell me how you've bridged the two and how proud you are of that, because that's what I love to hear, and I want the listeners to hear that.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I will just start to say that I identify as an and person.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, I like that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: I have that in my notes here.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I really think that we need to just give ourselves permission to like do the things that light us up, and you know, it's not the worst thing in the world to have something secure underneath you.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Like it's a very different vibe to go out with your business and know you need to pay your mortgage with those things versus, you know, having something.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: So I think that it's okay.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: So I built, um, I've been with this organization 15 years.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I built it this career out of business school.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm basically a chief marketing officer for Canada for a very large billion dollar IT professional services firm.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Very proud of the career I built and the things I get to do and the campaigns, and I get to sit around the boardroom tables and influence with no power.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: It's very cool.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Influence with no power and no responsibility.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, and you know, it's a lot of, you know, the industry I'm in is a lot, it's male dominated, and it's just a real opportunity for me to use my voice and not just because it's the loudest voice in the place, but it's like, have we thought about it this way?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And so my coaching experience, like I'm a certified executive coach and I I've gotten those um skill sets, it really helped me to ask better questions and to actually guide the teams towards better outcomes.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: And I love that.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: It's invigorating.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: I love that part of my job.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: And my soul has always been calling me for a bigger impact.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: So creating Janelle Cars Coaching and Consulting, as you said, I was like, I really want to work one-on-one.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: In particular, I love working with um, let's just say middle-aged, but it doesn't have to be, but you know, mid-life season women leaders who have really full lives who aren't here for mediocre, not here for mediocre businesses, lives.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: They want it all, but they don't want to burn out, they're not into hustling.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: And so there's this thing like, how do I do this?
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: I'll oh, back to my autopilot full life.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And so that's the sweet spot.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: And I really am passionate about helping women smash their someday goals and making bold moves.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: So that is like as I'm talking, I'm like, woo, let's go, right?
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Helping women batch their someday goals.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: That's that in itself is uh um a sound bite.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Is that is that your is that your tagline?
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Because smashing someday goals.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It definitely went in the keynote this weekend.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: Yes, because that's powerful.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: Because that language, all of us have someday goals.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: And so smashing those someday goals and bringing that down to reality.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: So what do you do?
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: You called it bold.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So I mean the quite yeah, okay.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So bold was a program they launched because, like you mentioned, one-on-one, I mean, it's time consuming.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: I have a full responsibility career.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: How do you build the side business?
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: And oh, by the way, the skill set you need to be an entrepreneur and build a business is another hat you need to learn.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's not just transferable.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're just like, okay, I'm gonna do this now.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, social media, I got to be visible, I got to do these things.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And I really want to be a great coach.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: So, how do you do all of that and then be sustainable?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: So I was like, all right, I can't just do one-on-one.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: I don't have capacity only to do that.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what can I do?
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And so after building my product, the badass planner, I have a planning system and I was supporting my clients and it was super cool.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what's next?
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And one of the questions in my weekly planner says, What's the one bold, badass thing you're gonna do this week?
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Boom, what if we just did one bold move a week?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, there you go.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then I was like, wait a minute, what if we did it and it was focused on a priority?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Because you know, when you just go out there and you're not focused, like you're all over the place, right?
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, and so this is a 90-day priority where you go and you make one bold move towards something big that you're all in on.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: What impact would that have on your life?
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Yes, right?
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: So for the women listening, what would you what would you say to them right now?
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: What could they do right now to start crushing or smashing that someday goal?
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, first of all, if you have something in mind that your someday goal is, it's not just a regular goal.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: This is something that like lights you up that you've been pushing down or kicking down the road to someday, one day when I have time, when the kids are older, when I feel ready, whatever your excuse is.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: But if you dig deep, it's the one that's been whispering for a long time, right?
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: It's the one that for me, I get butt tingles, right?
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: I'm just like it's probably those things that you don't tell people.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: And even if you do, you don't tell any everyone.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because people don't always get us, do they, right?
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: They don't get us.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like me the other a couple weeks ago.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: I went out, I went out publicly with a first within my uh sacred circle and said, I want to be traditionally published.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: To me, that that was a someday goal.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I started saying it quite, you know, a little bit louder, a little bit louder, a little bit louder, and now I'm like out there.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: I'm like, okay, I want to be traditionally published.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: What do I need to do?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's a little shocking what you need, you need the whole traditional published route, but you know, again, it's like it sat in my gut for so long, and I know I could just pay to publish my book, pay to play, but there's that like little thing in your gut, like you said, the butt tingle, that's like, oh, this is this is what I really want.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: So I had to start saying it, and now, yeah, I I would say that that's that was my most recent someday goal.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: And so you couple things there that you said.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: You you said it quietly out loud, yeah.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: And then you told a group of people that you trusted.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So then the universe starts to reward those things.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: And I bet you not just could the algorithm's always listening, but all of a sudden it's like the pink Tesla, you just start seeing evidence of it everywhere, and then you're like, no, this is good.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: So you built the momentum, and then really what I'd say to all the women listening, you get that thing, and then you actually have to do a little bit of work here first.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: You actually need to, like, all of a sudden your schedule didn't just free up, did it, Kim?
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Like, you weren't just like, oh, look at all that time I have now available, just because I made the decision and I'm ready.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: The schedule didn't just complete the scheme, get it.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Like so you have to actually say, what am I willing to give up to say to have this life that I want?
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Like Elizabeth Gilbert says, What am I willing to give up?
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: You actually have to say no to certain things that you really do want to do because this has now become a priority.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So, this is the most impactful work I like to do with my clients is that we're leveraging AI and different tools because one of the most powerful questions you can ask yourself is what can I delegate, outsource, or cancel this week to create more time?
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: So, what what have you had to do for yourself to being, you know, your corporate and then you have business and and just I don't know when this podcast is gonna air, but you're also prepping for your first keynote in the fall.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: It'll be in October.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, happy to be there.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: But like, so you have a lot of plus you have like your regular personal life, probably.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm a mom.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: I'm married to the love of my life.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I like to work out, lift heavy, like right, all that kind of stuff.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: So, so how have you applied that in your life?
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, like leaning into AI and learning Claude and creating, you know, it's like the I wish I could clone myself.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm like, no, we got to clone Janelle here and delegate some of the left brain repetitive stuff.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: So that's been a game changer in my life across my corporate world as well as in my business.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Do you think we spent too much time in that busy feeling busy doing all those things and making it like that's the reason why we're busy and it's really just repetitive stuff that you're doing over and over and over again.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: I think that when I did the digging, Kim, it was more about me feeling significant and that I mattered.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: And you look at your schedule and be like, look how busy I am, like triple blocked, right?
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, the badge of honor.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and now when I look at my schedule, my success is like, oh, look at that white space I've created for myself for spontaneity, for being present with my daughter, for going for a wander in the forest and letting sparks of creativity come to me.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Like, wow, that's wealthy beyond measure.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Have you had um have you had a burnout moment?
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Have you did you is there is there is there many?
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is there a hill that you ended up kind of like dying on, if you will, that brought you to this understanding?
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, I think I've come to a few in my life and because I want to do it all.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And so I'm saying yes to this project, yes to this, and I'll figure it out.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: And that worked for a long time.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: And I was able to smash a lot of goals and do all the things.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: But there was a couple, you know, moments I had.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: It was me realizing that at the end of the day, my husband and daughter were getting the very worst of me.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh, that's what you're bringing home.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: They're not getting the best of you, they're getting the worst of you.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: I already gave that version of Janelle out to everybody else.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And so when they say, What are you doing this for?
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Who's most important?
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Well, my husband and my daughter, and I'm like, really?
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Like, I had to have a real look in the mirror and say, then why is it that they get the short, tired Janelle later, honey?
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Mommy's busy right now, and for sure my husband's not even on the list.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, this is so powerful because I uh hear this a lot from and uh this is no judgment against young moms or moms, what it doesn't have to do with their age.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: I say young as in their families, young, not them.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: But I hear this a lot.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: I'm doing this for my kids.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: I'm sacrificing now for my kids so my kids can see my I'm doing this so my kids can see me, what it see what it looks like to live your dream, which I think is great.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: But here's the thing I'm 59, so my kids are in their mid to late 30s and 40s, and I have a plethora of grandchildren.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: And I and I can tell you this at the end of the day, what kids want is time.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: It's the time, and that's the hard thing when we're when you, you know, you're so um, we have myself included, don't get me wrong.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: I was this, I was this with my kids were younger too.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: And I always think when I hear that saying that like I'm doing this for my family, or I'm doing when there's a lot of absence or a lot of the tiredness where you're you're those people are getting the last of you.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: My heart breaks a tiny bit.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: I try not to judge because I know you know we there's things that we have to do and bills that have to be paid, and there is sacrifices and all that kind of stuff, but it is a little heart-wrenching, right?
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Because you're right, at the end of the day, it's great to be doing it for your family, but what is your family getting?
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: So the other day, and this is you know, I'm just I'll be real.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: I haven't got this completely figured out yet.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: So my daughter's 10 and she's amazing, like a unicorn.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I think she's been here many times before.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: She's here to teach me some lessons.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: And so we're out on the grass with our new puppy playing or whatever, and she says, Oh, you did that breath.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, What breath?
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: And she's like, That breath that you make right before you tell me that you're gonna go inside and just do a couple things quick and you never come back.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Oh no, that must have been powerful.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, and and here I was, you know, I'm outside being present with my daughter, check, and then she can see that I'm not even there.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I'm already thinking about the things I need to do, and I'm excited about them, and I'm sharing them with her.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: But what she cares about is oh, mama just she's gonna be gone now.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, that's powerful.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Thanks for sharing that.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Because that and and it doesn't matter how old you are.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: My old my old kids still teach me lessons that are like a little get you in the gut, I guess.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: What an honor.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: What an honor.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: So thank you for sharing that.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: So, do these moments, these are these are to me, are like the messy middle moments, right?
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: Where we're still figuring out building the plane while we're flying it.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: You know, we know that there's a standard or something we're shooting for.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: What is do these moments get easier for you?
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Do you see them quicker now, these messy middle moments?
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I feel like I'm just a messy middle masta.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I love the alliteration.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Messy middle masta.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: And I say that because I think I'm just always in a place of uncomfortable.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: And that was one of the things the speaking coach I had this past weekend.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: She says, Can we just set the intention to sit in the discomfort all weekend?
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: And I was just like, Okay, because when you just embrace it and know that, hey, I'm gonna be going out and doing things I've never done before.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Therefore, I'm gonna be out of sorts a little bit.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna fail.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna suck.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: I'm in the arena, I'm all mashed up, and I choose to be here.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: No one's doing this to me.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: And so, what am I gonna do?
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: What am I gonna do when that resistance comes up?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: So, one of the things I always say, I'm like, oh hey, resistance, you old friend.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I was expecting you.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: That kind of makes it more light.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: It's like, I know that this is the cost of growth, and this is the cost of me going after my someday goals, and I'm prepared to pay the price.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, awesome.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: So, what is your what is your next someday goal?
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I've um been speaking and facilitating my whole life, but the someday goal that I had was to be on big stages, inspiring the masses to make bold moves in their lives.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: I truly think that when we go after those big things, I think I was sharing with you earlier, those are the chapter headings in our memoir.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Those are the things we look back on and we're like, that, that, all that messy middle and all that stuff.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: But when I stepped out on that stage or when I looked out in the audience and that person just like boom, just like they had that shift.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Like for me, that's what I've been called to do.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And so that's a someday goal I'm right in the middle of and it's happening.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: So we're moving from someday to it's happening, and it's an exciting place.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: What did you have to do to make that happen?
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: How did you get that invite?
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: How did you put yourself out there?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: So last year I submitted a video and I was turned down.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And so failing at something really fires me up.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: When someone says no to me, I'm like, really?
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: You're not the boss of me.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: How can I make that work?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: But also, why?
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I've been facilitating, I've I have great communications, I presented in large audience before, but why wasn't I a fit?
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: And so being humble and open enough to get that feedback.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: And then, Cage, you know, what are you gonna do about it then?
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: How bad do you really want this?
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Just at the first sign of it not working out, then you know it's not really that important to you.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: And I was emboldened.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I want to learn some things, I'm gonna do some things, I'm gonna put the reps in.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And then I was like, you know what we have to do is we have to tag in support.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: So what I want to build my skills to hear who around me is doing what I want to do, who do I love, who can I learn from?
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: And I made some big investments.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: So sometimes you got to invest before the payout comes.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I call it pay to play, and I and I don't think that that's a bad thing necessarily.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah sometimes you have to pay to play or you have to put your money where your mouth is, however, you want to, whatever the slang is.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: I love that you took your someday goal.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: You tried last year, took the action, got the no, which is always part of it.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: No's are always part of the.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Process to get to where you want to go.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: It just is, whether it doesn't matter.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: And so, but also not taking no for the answer, just taking no.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: And then, okay, this is still the thing that I really want to get to.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: And how can I do that?
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: What are the things that I need to engage, learn, do in order to be considered?
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: And you know, like for us, we did um we filmed in front of the Dragon's Den this year in May.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: And right after she leads, there were three events in 30 days.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: There was the She Leads, my first keynote, uh, the Gala, which was 800 people, and then um Dragon's Den.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: So it went from 100 people to 800 people to a Dragon's Den.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's being filmed yet or not, hopefully, but we applied three years in a row to get onto Dragon Sten.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: And last year when we applied, we got invited to to the audition, to the in-person audition, and we failed the audition miserably.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: We knew it right then and there.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: I felt it, my husband felt it, and we just knew we knew we knew it just fell flat.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but it didn't stop us, right?
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: So then the next time, like, and you just have you have to keep going.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: So I love your story, and I uh just about this current someday goal.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: I think for the listeners, it's really relevant that this was your someday goal.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: You took the action to apply.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: It doesn't magically happen.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Uh and you've put in the reps now.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: You've invested some money either into yourself, your own coaching, your own development, into the stage, whatever it is, right?
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: To make that happen.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: I'm really excited.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: So we're quickly getting to the end, but I want to say this at this part because I just can say this on record.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: We are at the end of July.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: The event that you're speaking at is in October.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: I think we might be airing somewhere around there.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: But right now, to where you are, what has been your biggest learning in making this someday goal come to fruition?
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Like in you were just at a speaker intensive.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: And so in putting together uh a good keynote, let's say, that one that's compelling, gonna take the audience on a journey.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: What has been your biggest struggle in in that process and your biggest learning?
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: Biggest struggle is the back and forth of oh my God, I'm meant for this.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited, I'm gonna be the next female Tony Robbins.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: It's so happening.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Then, like, oh my God, I suck so bad.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Why would anyone listen to me?
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Other people and then like the swing back and forth, it really requires the daily work in your mindset um to manage all those feelings and know it's part of it, not trying to make them go away, but being like, okay, this is fine.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: So I have um inner bitch called Christine who likes to rattle me all the time.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Christine, you just need a grilled cheese sandwich and a hug, and you're gonna be fine.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Let's get to it, right?
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Carbs and some cheese.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: It'll make you feel better.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: So the biggest, I would say the biggest excitement that I'm having is when you I actually feel like I've emerged into my next level.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, awesome.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: And and being here tastes different, the air is different, my clothes fit a bit different, I approach things differently.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: And I'm still me.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I'm a thousand versions of Janelle up until this moment.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: And this version is one I've been really working towards for a while.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: And it's fucking great to be here.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Oh my God.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: That is a great place to end.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: That was a great, inspiring kind of wrap-up.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: So I love that.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Where can people find you and follow you along, especially as you launch into uh your speaker era?
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: Let's call it that.
