- 0:33I'm so drunk. Good evening, you've joined us
- 0:43here, this historic moment, this we ask attempting to reconnect
- 0:48with the podcast, a hamster with a blunt penknife, which as we
- 0:51all know, has been lost for seven months on its way.
- 0:55Back from Mars, you join me now, just as our Intrepid, astronaut
- 1:00Captain Fraser Gregory, it's trying to reconnect with the
- 1:05Mars 7 Lander. And the occupant that when you
- 1:12thought I said, Joe Van luncheons actually.
- 1:18As you can see, now countries, I was just opening the hatch
- 1:23injecting air into the tunnel. Oh my God, what's that?
- 1:27Horrible noise? Stop it, excuse me.
- 1:37Casting Aspersions already. Hello.
- 1:40Frasier. Hello Joanne.
- 1:41Welcome to a hamster with a blunt.
- 1:43Penknife does the ambassadors. Of death of death.
- 1:55How are you this evening? Oh, I'm all this.
- 1:57While I'm here, talking about a jumper we, Serie with you.
- 2:00Yes. And we, which is actually my
- 2:02comfort era of Doctor Who, so? Yeah, Moon.
- 2:06And we've obviously picked the best one of the entire year.
- 2:11I'll using, this is the best jumper.
- 2:12We story of all. Yeah yeah I'm going to go there.
- 2:16I think there's little ones which are really good like the
- 2:20demons and green death. The sea Devils which are also
- 2:25really kind of all the monsters basics of dinosaurs.
- 2:30But this one is the one that kind of you know ticks all the
- 2:34boxes for me. It's the one that comes together
- 2:37the most with just everything that you want with the per year
- 2:42and everything you love about the pit where you were.
- 2:45And just things. I hate this story, right?
- 2:50And the other wrong, I've been completely agree.
- 2:52I don't think it's probably the best of the year.
- 2:54I think it's very strong, really strong on, kind of any box.
- 2:58You can take Direction, writing performance narrative all of it.
- 3:04Why is this story so ignored? Why is it so forgotten?
- 3:07Because it's in season 7, and it comes after the Doctor Who in
- 3:12the silurians and comes before Inferno.
- 3:14No in a series that started with spearhead from space.
- 3:20So all the other stories around it or so strong that this is the
- 3:25one that kind of gets left behind as it were.
- 3:28This is the one that's like at ignored because the other ones
- 3:31are, you know, in other people's opinions, much better.
- 3:35And but you know, for me this one stands up much.
- 3:40That's equally with, you know, infernal sons of equally, the
- 3:44spearhead possibly better than silurians is bad.
- 3:50Directed them, the silurians I think this is some of the best
- 3:53Direction you're going to seeing classic hearing this story.
- 3:55It is it is it's Michael Ferguson and he's doing what
- 3:58Michael Ferguson does, which is just being better than anyone's
- 4:03got any rate to come in and do. Yeah, you know where the budget
- 4:06that he's got ya, his creativity.
- 4:09Here on the camera is extraordinary.
- 4:11Yeah it's one of these directors and you know the - like love at
- 4:14Bickford and whatnot and Dougie fan field where you think we've
- 4:17got no right to have something this good.
- 4:21You know it's a prime example of the BBC, discovering talent and
- 4:26nurturing it and letting it develop, you know, make Michael
- 4:31Ferguson went on to produce EastEnders, did you?
- 4:37No, I did not. Nothing he was producing
- 4:42EastEnders at the time that the Mitchell Brothers were bass.
- 4:46EastEnders eyes High, isn't it? That's 30 million a week.
- 4:50Yeah, whatever else I'm feelin grunt coming in its Eddie Royal
- 4:54being bumped off. Its em, you know, Mark Foley.
- 4:59I get an HIV. It's all that basically will
- 5:03always watch it and exactly wholesomely watching unashamedly
- 5:07watching Solutely it was gripping and it's that was
- 5:11Michael Ferguson Sera. So, you know, I've got a before
- 5:14we go it, I've got a weird conundrum That season 7, right?
- 5:18Because I think it is probably the most accomplished season of
- 5:23Doctor Who, like, in how its presented in, how it commits
- 5:27itself to atone in its intelligent storytelling.
- 5:31In, it's like, astonishing guest performances across the season
- 5:36and yet it's never a season. I want to go back and watch.
- 5:39I never whenever I'm looking at shelves, I've never like oh one
- 5:42or season 7 and you know what that is?
- 5:43I realized today, when I put on our buses, they have to give
- 5:46myself a little refresher is it's very serious and it you
- 5:52know, me that I like acne like a thief um, over the phone.
- 5:55Yeah, Doctor Who and this is, it's definitely a tone.
- 6:00Isn't it season 7 kind of clinical bit violent.
- 6:05Ya know, I can get that. I think this This has worse.
- 6:09He's got quite good balance between that sort of greatness,
- 6:13but there's a great playfulness throughout this as well.
- 6:15But there is some like, really Adult moments in here.
- 6:20The some light really quite gruesome and quite chilling
- 6:24moments in the story which will there's some astonishing moment
- 6:28of violence, even in this first episode, I feel absolutely.
- 6:33I think, I think the problem more will season seven than
- 6:36anything else is the length of the stories because you know
- 6:39it's not something that you could just you know sit down at
- 6:43all like 9:00 connecting all you know what?
- 6:44I'm watching an item that I'm going to stick.
- 6:47You know say Luann's on you've you've got a kind of putter you
- 6:51know you can't watch it all in one go.
- 6:52You have to split it over, cut the nights and which I'm happy
- 6:55to do. I've been watching this, you
- 6:59know, in preparation and just because I love it and for the
- 7:01last three or four weeks now. So you know what is perfect for
- 7:06is perfect. And now you wouldn't understand
- 7:08this because you're both a husband and a father and you
- 7:11have pets now as well. So you never have free time but
- 7:15it's the perfect Sunday like Afternoon of got four hours to
- 7:20kill. While had a roasted over the
- 7:22fire from bash out seven episodes of season 7.
- 7:25Yeah, absolutely. You would it's the sort of
- 7:27hollyoaks of daughter who doesn't stick it on a morning
- 7:31and you know, then cook you dinner?
- 7:34And yeah, that would work, wouldn't it?
- 7:36Well, I'll tell you what. I actually saw.
- 7:38I've only watched two episodes in preparation for so I am
- 7:41gagging to see what you think of all of this.
- 7:44Well, I really don't know. So, are you ready to skip into
- 7:46episode? One.
- 7:47I am very ready to skip another episode 1.
- 7:50Well, what do you count as in then Okay, and five, four,
- 7:58three, two, one plate. You realize something I'm
- 8:04absolutely living my best life. You know, when I'm discussing
- 8:07Doctor, Who with you in an evening, after me tea, I don't
- 8:12know. Good grief, right?
- 8:13We can't be this nice. All the way through people are
- 8:14finding agonizing and very uncharacteristic rate.
- 8:18Here Comes were first talking point then, which is open and
- 8:22credits because the done, Something different with these
- 8:24ones, haven't there, or you talking about the ambassador's
- 8:32off the introduction and then they give you a sort of the
- 8:34called, open all the requires. Yeah.
- 8:37Why the fuck did they do not kill?
- 8:38That's amazing, it's so good. It's think it would get a little
- 8:43bit tedious after a while. So you think it's effective as a
- 8:48one-off? It really affect as a one off
- 8:50because it kind of like makes this one stand out a bit more
- 8:53and it gets them You know, you don't get anything all as a
- 8:57one-off is a little novelty, it's really good.
- 8:59But, you know, if they will kinda like, keeping this cord
- 9:01all the way through for the next sort of like, 30 years.
- 9:04Whatever you'd be like, well, they did this, like, they
- 9:07disagree with infernos. Well, I didn't know, we've all
- 9:09the exploding lava and volcanoes, and all of that as
- 9:13well, which was a nice touch as well.
- 9:15Okay. Immediately, when this started,
- 9:17okay, I felt it almost feels like a documentary.
- 9:21It's played so seriously, that's Yes.
- 9:24That's one of the beauties of it it's it's it's hard sci-fi but
- 9:28it's actually not hard in as much as you know it's greatly
- 9:33but it's hard as much as it's actually quite realistic kids.
- 9:36You know Mars probe 7 has been lost.
- 9:40We've lost contact with it until we're back from Mars but no
- 9:42one's had any contact with it for six months which is the time
- 9:45it takes to travel from Mars. It's not just yeah.
- 9:48And I did feel like throughout episodes 1 & 2, it's all played
- 9:53out. Was it feels like in real time?
- 9:56Now, I know it would take a lot longer, probably enroll.
- 9:58I'm the 25 minutes to get this rocket back, but it feels, it
- 10:02doesn't feel rushed. No, like, the last time we did
- 10:05space travel, it was like the early space pirates and the
- 10:08seeds of death. And it was all very comic book
- 10:11and there's get from there to there to that planet.
- 10:13Whereas now we're doing Doctor Who, like, in space for real,
- 10:19This helps as well. The the the newsreader Michael
- 10:22wishes new dream which doesn't usually do.
- 10:23This is brilliant. This is a fantastic way of
- 10:26getting around your exposition to have it you know delivered in
- 10:30the style of other news realized it's fantastic at the doctor.
- 10:34Winners are watching, what's going on on the right way of
- 10:36bringing them into the story? Yeah, well, I mean, who would do
- 10:39that nowadays with know who Rusty, Davis loves that, doesn't
- 10:42it? Yes, as you know, London, We
- 10:48have the doctor watching all those events you know played out
- 10:52in on like BBC News. 24 first. What is this a this a the Tardis
- 10:56is it? Yes it's the Tardis.
- 10:58No it's not. The Tardis console.
- 11:00The kind of took it out of out of the TARDIS and it looks like
- 11:05it's in someone's living room. It's probably uh to before
- 11:10before It got updated. Well, I thought the heart of the
- 11:14TARDIS was in the home so that's no.
- 11:19Do you know what? They're just make it harder
- 11:20later. Back out, obviously go along.
- 11:22You can take this console out and make repairs and very, oh, I
- 11:25think the, the non sort of continuity of version is that
- 11:32the set was damaged, you know, their own dolls were damaged,
- 11:36console was fine after they Classic series but the other
- 11:42Bits of the set, were to examine still all games.
- 11:44They were literally using those, you know, yeah.
- 11:47Photo blow-ups of the roundels for ages in that and it really,
- 11:52really terrible. Oh, did you hear the story about
- 11:56this scene, where it was a really just an exposition scene
- 12:00between the doctor and Liz and Barry?
- 12:01Let sent? No, it's not Doctor Who enough.
- 12:03We need to be more doctor so that's why you've got the
- 12:05popping off for a time. Yeah but there's a few I was
- 12:10watching with the comment. Beyond then.
- 12:12It was M. Michael Ferguson was like all
- 12:14this was my idea. They Terrance dicks was like,
- 12:16well, no, it was ours Asia as well.
- 12:26If it is your makeup then you know, I'm sorry but we did steal
- 12:29it for different if you know he's got all that scientifically
- 12:33shop and test you on top of this TV.
- 12:36Yeah. Just to prove that he's a true
- 12:39eccentric. Yeah.
- 12:41I don't know if you noticed but she's like straight after the of
- 12:46death credit is there was a glass shot of Mission Control
- 12:51and these hexagonal cells. So it had a real sense of scale
- 12:54to it or this is a brilliant set.
- 12:57This is, you know that you've got it's from my folks.
- 13:00And I used to do is having a big set with levels.
- 13:03Like, you know, the costs are going up and down and he's that
- 13:08was all part of the season. Thing that wasn't.
- 13:11Why? Having seven episodes you can
- 13:13kind of panel ties. The cost and have better
- 13:16production values. Yeah, I'm gonna apologize for
- 13:20the background noise because my puppy is currently gone, but a
- 13:24mental half hour, with a ball. So any wallet my mark a point
- 13:30has moved out now. So someone's pet has to take
- 13:34over. Yeah.
- 13:35And I'll be warned that if there's a random stop it at any
- 13:38point, it's not for dual. It's for willow.
- 13:41Puppy could well that I could be for me or the dog coffee will
- 13:45see will say oh but the action. You know, no one's done it yet.
- 13:49So I'm going to take the opportunity and say set off the
- 13:53dominant as Clarkson because there is, oh my God, forgot
- 13:59about it earlier. That's is it Rago?
- 14:03Orto bar and well go oh my God, the boys game:.
- 14:08I'm looking fantastic. I mean, You know, gorgeous
- 14:12Hamlet. We've got the Hamlet music as
- 14:14well with the other model shot. No, but their lives, they are
- 14:17trying to do what they did during documentaries at the
- 14:20time. Isn't it?
- 14:21When they died? They had actual space footage.
- 14:24Yeah. Is they use classical music?
- 14:27I think it's I think it's lovely.
- 14:28Having some nice. Yeah, it's very 2001 Space.
- 14:32Odyssey model work is really strong as well.
- 14:38Well then again this is the commentary.
- 14:39The 76 says that all mobile phone says that the split the
- 14:44cost with do much all. They never did.
- 14:47Yeah. Good do much.
- 14:48We're doing a to I think it was doing much we're doing a similar
- 14:53sort of production so that said well, you know well we'll just
- 14:56do the have the model and then You know, will stick new
- 15:02stickers on and you can have it and we'll split the cost of the
- 15:05budget. I think the cockpit as well for
- 15:06it. I'll hang on a minute.
- 15:08I'm one of your smile rumored that doesn't terroristic.
- 15:10Say they said they wanted to give them the story lies.
- 15:15Just in case they were, they were going to have similar
- 15:17story, lies and terroristic. Split one looks at all these
- 15:19storylines from DuBois and went well I wouldn't touch any of
- 15:22them. They're good to go.
- 15:27No I haven't that. I watched the first.
- 15:29Flan, which is all about it was called the plastic eaters is a
- 15:33sequence on a plane where the plane starts melting in Flight,
- 15:38absolutely terrifying. Oh, talking of terrifying.
- 15:41I thought this was a brilliant better Direction.
- 15:44The suspense in this scene where he opens up the hatch one bit at
- 15:48a time. I mean, This this whole story
- 15:53gets one of the reasons that people aren't as fun to be as I
- 15:57am, is because of the pardon, because it is, your seven
- 16:00episodes long in the plot stretched, a bit of points and
- 16:03there's a bit of capture and there's a bit of recap German
- 16:05Escape, but this scene is pardoned, know the initial scene
- 16:09where, you know, he said it looks like your cut a
- 16:12documentary in Scott. Yeah, well of Cornish, you know,
- 16:16two degrees left already you're coming in too because it's all
- 16:19pardon, but Do you know that the camera is from the point of view
- 16:23of whatever he's seeing and then it's slow motion and it's just
- 16:26got like a silent scream. Yeah.
- 16:29And if but if this was like, you know, if your first quadrant
- 16:32hinges, clear for Williams want this would be, you know, will be
- 16:35straight in. You'd have.
- 16:37Yeah, one minute scene of like, you know, I've doctor I'm going
- 16:41in. Well, I got a question for you
- 16:43then, so do you not mind a more measured Pace?
- 16:47No, not at all a bit more realistic.
- 16:50Not at all. And I think because the pattern
- 16:54that we're getting is this quality sudden, it's not, it's
- 16:57not where you can obviously see the joints of something like
- 16:59that. A monster later on in a couple
- 17:02series time where you literally have the doctor digging on with
- 17:06the wine bottle. While brings good, should do not
- 17:08go and get the master know and he's like, no no let me do that
- 17:11and that's that Madara. There's a lot of Cat Valentine
- 17:14monster but there's a lot of fucking nonsense in there as
- 17:17well. Oh, this woman, I really liked
- 17:20her right? A woman who works at Mission
- 17:21Control. Yeah, he's at ashes.
- 17:24I think in episode 2, we don't see her again inches in for the
- 17:27first couple of episodes. And then in the last couple, she
- 17:30was replaced by a different character.
- 17:34Oh, I got that. They sell in the country that
- 17:36should have had a couple long at the end in.
- 17:37Go up it away for a few days. What's been happening.
- 17:41I'll know Talia than his accent in his accent.
- 17:44Oh my That's the point. I've got a question for all who
- 17:53asked about to tell you, but it's out to Twitter again.
- 17:56Oh, yes. Okay, Daniel, Nate was tell
- 18:01Italians accent. The inspiration for John Cleese,
- 18:04has French tonta in Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
- 18:08Yes. How does the accent drop when
- 18:12he's on location with John Cleese is Character.
- 18:17Oh we got a, you know what, right?
- 18:19People say about Jon Pertwee being, you know, a total prick
- 18:23in his first couple of Seasons. So I think that done it, I
- 18:25really dont like early Jon Pertwee but when he comes in a
- 18:28minute up that lift and goes my dear fellow, I think we don't
- 18:32happen to have a pass because I do believe in him.
- 18:34That's why Harris. But this this scene is
- 18:37brilliant. And this is why I think
- 18:40pertwee's. Doctor works a lot better in
- 18:42season seven than he does in season eight East.
- 18:46Him sort of talked about what happens is, you know, you comes
- 18:50up. He's obviously lost his way and
- 18:52all parties being fair enough, he comes in, he starts having a
- 18:56bit of a set to a Cornish. And then the bread gets involved
- 19:00in the brig, please, The Peacemaker, and, you know,
- 19:05smooth it over the course, and some sort of the doctor and the
- 19:07doctor realizes that he's making a dick in.
- 19:11So, you know, it is quite good and quite apologize.
- 19:15Ladies, With Colin Baker, when they brought in even in Smythe,
- 19:20is they brought in a character who would hold up a mirror to
- 19:24how arrogant he was being and then he would end up
- 19:26apologizing. Yeah, but I think there was a
- 19:29level of sophistication to the doctor and the brigadier's
- 19:33relationship at this point, which gets a little thinned out,
- 19:38as they act as get comfortable together.
- 19:40Don't think, I'm guess then do as much as it gets completely.
- 19:46The tune changes it isn't. It's you get the stomach like
- 19:51the mind of evil or close of access.
- 19:53Where, you know, at the end the the top, the brig is the book of
- 19:58the doctors jokes. Mmm sort of thing.
- 20:00It like I could be stuck here with your brain.
- 20:03Yeah, you know, and it's kind of like if it come planet of the
- 20:08Daleks are going off on a date to the theater together, you
- 20:11know? Yeah.
- 20:12But yeah. They start off in here.
- 20:16And there's a lovely scene I think episode 5 or 6 where you
- 20:20know, the doctors blast on the space in the brig comes to see
- 20:23me, that's fantastic reassures. You know, the risk level of
- 20:26respect between the two characters that disappears in
- 20:3089, and it's not until like 11, where the out, you know, seeing
- 20:34a short together that you actually get back to feeling.
- 20:36These are all people who who kind of enjoy each other and the
- 20:42same time, he has that line in absolutely in this episode.
- 20:46He says, I will now he's blown up The Silo it so they can have
- 20:48a difference of opinion as well. And what?
- 20:51Yeah, something like that, the man's a fool.
- 20:55It's it's great. I think I've said this it on the
- 20:58podcast perhaps is that, you know, the thing that was gets me
- 21:01about pool, where he is, is that the doctor is account.
- 21:03That's always the most clever person in the room.
- 21:06You know, they are the genus, the other one.
- 21:09That knows that's the cleverest person in the room.
- 21:12They know that. But other doctors have to work
- 21:16to convince other people that we're was put, we just
- 21:20automatically assumes walks in the room and to automatically
- 21:22assume that everyone is just going to know that he is private
- 21:24schools. Like a media Authority has that
- 21:27you don't question it at all. I think, well, this is it people
- 21:30do and that's where the this the kind of dickish nurse comes in
- 21:33is again this is really good example ways to stormed in and
- 21:35he's been like, you know, Cornish, give me a computer.
- 21:38It's pepper and conscious like me at.
- 21:40This is my, this is my Space Center sling, your hook in.
- 21:43It will however have that that the brig clear.
- 21:47Not Peacemaker. Because it gets called out on
- 21:50it, and Liz cause and out. And as welders and that seemed,
- 21:53whether in the weather watchin Make-a-Wish has television
- 21:57program and this brings him a cup of tea and he's just kind of
- 22:00like engrossed in the Telly social waxham on the shuttle.
- 22:02It's but you know what? He's very different with Liz
- 22:08than he is with Joe in season 8 and I think it's because Liz
- 22:12literally white taking it And but there are moments where he
- 22:15liked he will give Liz. I come on like in episode 2.
- 22:18He says I'll go ask the computer.
- 22:21What's 2 & 2. Yeah.
- 22:22Well don't be so ridiculous layers.
- 22:24Just do it. Let's do it.
- 22:25You know, and she realizes okay, he's doing this for a, but where
- 22:28is it that have been him to Joe? Yeah, so though it would have
- 22:31felt patronizing and condescending.
- 22:35Yeah, it's the this is a bit of respect between all of the
- 22:40colors here at the minute Laurie.
- 22:42Look at it. Squeaking, it's go away.
- 22:47She's uh, she's going to crash in a minute but just just going
- 22:51for it. I don't know if you noticed a
- 22:54minute ago, right? Did you see you know when the
- 22:56debtor what they're doing it right now where the noise cuts
- 22:59it? Yes he's like up, Kaka that had
- 23:02to be done live in studio, you're here that's that's
- 23:06tremendous. And then again that's that fancy
- 23:08bit of but fantastic bit of direction and editing from from
- 23:11Michael Ferguson, really pretty. But just look at that camera
- 23:14angle there. He's literally gone down to
- 23:17Floyd shooting up at them, on an upper level.
- 23:20I'm telling you now I know you must stop you there.
- 23:23God is. That is just a peachy shot
- 23:25there. Zoom straight in on Nicholas.
- 23:28Courtney speech, man. I'd use it.
- 23:31Hi, Lucy. We see your, No.
- 23:37Well, I'll tell you what she ain't gonna throw.
- 23:38No brigadiers, because I think she fancies the a software
- 23:40called literally literally here, that's it.
- 23:46Newman. You and I recently won tell you
- 23:50now, there weren't even one shot of sophisticated as what we just
- 23:53saw there from microphone and that's just one camera angle
- 23:57will came to discuss them off at this direction, you know, in
- 24:01depth in when we did that and you know, if that's you know,
- 24:05pick them off. It is the type of director that
- 24:07you know you'd expect to have on on Doctor Who it was an extent
- 24:10used to take the director you need to have on on Doctor Who
- 24:12you needa The more fat you need, a pennant Roberts to come in and
- 24:17be. And you see these, I'm sorry to
- 24:19interrupt you, can you see this location for Italy's Batman
- 24:22angles in the windows and stuff is extraordinary.
- 24:26It's just fantastic. I do, it's a bit annoying
- 24:29because I don't think Ferguson gets the same recognition of
- 24:31people, like, Graeme Harper and Douglas Canfield.
- 24:35And, yeah, I think he's every bit as strong.
- 24:38Yes, own weight is your music. Go on and I do it.
- 24:46Do it do it is absolutely correct.
- 25:07Really interesting stuff in his anyway because he's got like a
- 25:09saxophone playing in episode 2 when there's always sort of
- 25:13Espionage going In the sales and things, maybe it's Jazzy.
- 25:16That's what it is. Yeah, Josie and give it for.
- 25:20It's kind of like a thrill of this and a jazz score.
- 25:23It shouldn't really go together but it kind of does I think he's
- 25:26there's I think there's three bits of meat with Three that
- 25:30really stick out which is the, you know, the unit arrivin, you
- 25:36know, music that is the dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun when I
- 25:47get in the car and then obviously that I love that.
- 26:00You know, flute. And this is one of the best
- 26:04directed action sequences ever in Doctor Who this could be
- 26:09coming out of a crime drama out of this.
- 26:12Could be the Sweeney. This could be.
- 26:14Yeah. Yeah, Cagney and Lacey or any
- 26:16other one of those big budget American Crime, dramas all shot
- 26:19on film. Yeah.
- 26:21It's it's just brilliant because I what I love about this is the
- 26:24brig getting stuck in GT, the fellow at the trench coat,
- 26:28they're looking really stiff. Are we is popping up with these
- 26:32with these corny? Hated firing down significance
- 26:35for me. Yeah.
- 26:36You can see him blinking every single time but everyone else is
- 26:39as well. There's a bit in a minute right
- 26:40where he's up against a wall and this is fucking bullet.
- 26:43Holes appear in all around is hate Jesus Christ.
- 26:48I think also because I love the fact that he's getting stuck in
- 26:51because it gives me a bit of ammunition to say to the people
- 26:55who slate survivors of the flux for the brig being a corporal
- 26:59co-opted Me but having a mission to say that man has served in
- 27:04the ranks. That mountain is not just purely
- 27:09an officer, he has done his time.
- 27:11So my my head Canon of survivors at the flux is that, you know,
- 27:15captain lethbridge-stewart or whatever.
- 27:18Did a bit of a thaw with the young Alistair, my last, uh,
- 27:21Gordon okay, that your bit to, you know, fully yourself, you're
- 27:25a bit, you know, you know, you're You know, but how can
- 27:31your a bit thinking of that? So I'm going to push it down,
- 27:34the court will go and spend some time as an enlisted man.
- 27:37Yeah, and you know, I should write one of those left with
- 27:40Stuart book so explains that, you know, send it back then.
- 27:43They were the only person who really complaints about that.
- 27:45Very loud is Jason Miller you know, honestly and he complained
- 27:49about some very strange things. Pull back easy.
- 27:56It's just and again this is pardon, isn't it?
- 27:58This is pardon, it is, I don't know.
- 28:00But you know what? I would say that I'd say there
- 28:02are lots of moments in this story where narrative gets a
- 28:06little bit confused. Yeah, the deliberately because
- 28:09you're supposed to be like, well who do you trust?
- 28:10It's a bit X-Files, isn't it? It's like who who in Authority
- 28:14do you trust or not? It's a, it's a double-cross up
- 28:17to individual triple cross, that turns and were we've.
- 28:20Lots of dangers are not of escaping and capturing and all
- 28:23of this haha. It's so well realized yeah, who
- 28:27cares? That's what makes it work is You
- 28:30know, pattern is absolutely faint.
- 28:33If you've got someone really accomplished doing that pattern,
- 28:36if you've got ten sticks right in the script and if you've got
- 28:38Michael Ferguson directing it, you know, that pattern is gold,
- 28:43you know, and your wouldn't want to lose it for anything this
- 28:45here, where he's got the gun on the Brigadier.
- 28:48And you're thinking, why is curtains for Alistair and then
- 28:51it and then the last thing you expect him to do is drop the
- 28:53garden. It's a funny one that says but
- 28:55like why is that not the cliffhanger?
- 29:00Possible house. I do question the Brigadier
- 29:02going right now. Giving him some woman.
- 29:08Yeah, that never mind. And you know what like look at
- 29:11this gritty. Sort of urban setting this
- 29:14Warehouse, you know, Yeah, there's there's rumors dad.
- 29:20Oh my God. Yeah.
- 29:21Isn't it from Red? Wolf has stopped to say son.
- 29:26Don't smoke it. Let me tell you.
- 29:29He is phenomenally good in this John Adams Harry.
- 29:33Yeah. But again that's that's one of
- 29:35the things that really works in. This is we have quite a big gust
- 29:39of got a lot of custom, a lot of extras.
- 29:41You know you've got people like him control room, lady who have
- 29:46spoken. To pop in and pop out of Benton
- 29:49comes along in a few episodes time.
- 29:52This is this the story. Well like they say dependents
- 29:55who what is go to that in four episodes of time?
- 29:59But that's horse, but I think the Genesis of this story is it
- 30:03started out as a David Whittaker script.
- 30:06So he wrote in its entirety and he was asked to rewrite it
- 30:10several times. Yeah.
- 30:12It wasn't going in the direction, they wanted it in and
- 30:15Tara sticks spoke to Derrick show anywhere that we can't keep
- 30:19having to rewrite this, like, you know, I'm going to take it
- 30:21home and him and Malcolm Hulk rewrote it essentially top to
- 30:27bottom, but with the bare bones of Whitaker's story in there.
- 30:30That's I think there's a true every who did the first episode,
- 30:35but the rest was, you know, Dixon Hulk.
- 30:38But you know what, you've got there.
- 30:40You've got David, Whittaker Terror, sticks and Malcolm Hulk,
- 30:43and their three of the best Riders we ever had in the
- 30:46classic series. He that you've got ten sticks
- 30:48doing what Terrance dicks does. Best go on, got his back to the
- 30:52wall, got a deadline. Got to get something out.
- 30:55Any hack set. Yeah, so you hacks at the death,
- 30:58but Tevin sticks is such a good hug.
- 31:01Are, you know, is Terrance dicks?
- 31:05A hug greater? That's a question is Terence.
- 31:08Isn't that right? Yes, he is, but I think he's the
- 31:11best hack right at the show. Has absolutely.
- 31:14Absolutely. He is absolute genius when he's
- 31:18actually, you know, put up against the wall.
- 31:20You look at things like horrifying rock.
- 31:22Where is in the same position? You look at the walking's, the
- 31:26five doctors, I mean, that is that an impossible task, the
- 31:29pull that off and he does it is entertaining as hell, but I
- 31:33think as well, you've got Hulk here as well.
- 31:35So there's a level of sophistication to this certainly
- 31:38with the characterization. Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:43So it all kind of makes sense and there's a lot of action and
- 31:46its paces. Yeah, that's where I was going
- 31:48and you know, the characters, the characters that you actually
- 31:51get spend a bit of time with so the dr.
- 31:53Liz, tough talion Ralph Cornish Lennox, what are the right
- 31:58character lennox's? You know, even even like I wish
- 32:03I was kotler, you know, there's levels to them which and they
- 32:08say living there is a farce and we'll get there in the last
- 32:11episode but I've got almost jump up an area.
- 32:14So Carrington, if that Unforgettable villain.
- 32:17Especially given what happens at the end of the story.
- 32:20Yeah. Oh my God.
- 32:21Phrase were ended. So we were still talking.
- 32:23We were totally in pulled a gun on the doctor and so ended the
- 32:31story. But like I said, this is really
- 32:34quite padded out, but it's flown over because it's just so awful
- 32:38episode 1 flew by what I watched it, you know, that's what I was
- 32:41going to fly by as well. Then we'll get over that all
- 32:44seven episodes going to fly by really tonight.
- 32:47Or should we should we should we get on with it then?
