- 0:05Welcome to Three Guys 6 Balls NFL Podcast Welcome to episode
- 0:0830 of Three Guys 6 Balls NFL Podcast.
- 0:11We've got a lot of great stuff for you guys today, so we're
- 0:14just going to jump right in. Last week Will gave us a recap
- 0:17of Week 3 and this week he's going to give us a recap of Week
- 0:214, so we'll take it away. Hi week 4 again.
- 0:25We had all 16 games started Thursday as it's going to for
- 0:28most of the rest of the season. We had Seahawks, Cardinals
- 0:31first. Now even cool jerseys could save
- 0:33to Cardinals season. JSN got stared down by that ref
- 0:35like he was being parented. Also it is nice to see Sandra
- 0:39playing good football right now. Vikings, Steelers in Dublin,
- 0:41Carson went through for 350 yards, 2 touchdowns and they
- 0:44still lost the new father time in a bag of rocks.
- 0:47We had Commanders, Falcons. Falcons decided they finally
- 0:50wanted to score points this week.
- 0:52Their defense, however, still questionable.
- 0:54Chargers at Giants with Jackson dart season Jackson dart.
- 0:58Chargers are going to be just fine.
- 0:59But the Chargers also, you're going to lose this game nine
- 1:02times out of 10 because you're the Chargers and you just can't
- 1:05function on games like this. You're undefeated, they're
- 1:08winless. You're just going to lose it.
- 1:10It's just the way it works for you guys.
- 1:11Titans at Texans and 2000 still bad.
- 1:14Titans are the worst of them. Eagles, Bucks.
- 1:16We had Eagles still not playing full four quarters of football,
- 1:18but somehow winning. Mecca is going to win rookie of
- 1:21the year. Let's just go ahead and lock
- 1:22that up now. Oh yeah, Panthers, Pats,
- 1:25Panthers decided they were done playing defense this year.
- 1:28One game was enough for them. When we go to the Saints, Bills,
- 1:31Saints decided to let Chris a lot.
- 1:33They throw a pass before Lillian Tyler struck, touched the ball
- 1:35again. Also, he did not complete that
- 1:37pass. That's not a joke.
- 1:40Quick. For a lot they went over one in
- 1:42passing this week where the Tyler shot did not touch it.
- 1:44Saints bad, Bill's good. Browns Lions stat wise,
- 1:48offensively at least, this game was fairly even.
- 1:52But the NFL, so we're going to give the Browns a loss anyway.
- 1:55And we got Jags. 49ers. 49ers had had half of their punts this
- 1:59game returned for touchdowns. That was a big difference in
- 2:02this game. Where was that?
- 2:03In our four turnovers, they only punted twice, and one of them
- 2:06was for a touchdown. It's not like they had eight
- 2:08punts, but you know, half sounds better.
- 2:10And we had Colts, Rams. The Colts are doing their best
- 2:13to promote the new Chad Powers Show from Hulu.
- 2:17And the Rams actually wanted to score in their long touchdown
- 2:19plays. So there's that.
- 2:21We had Bears at the Raiders. Raiders finally paid their
- 2:24offensive line to block for Ashton Gente and it showed with
- 2:27three, three total touchdowns. And apparently it's very end of
- 2:29the game that the Raiders did not learn from the Rams last
- 2:32week that you need to protect your kicker on a field goal
- 2:35attempt to win the game. It got blocked.
- 2:37Ravens, Chiefs, Ravens bad, I guess.
- 2:41Chiefs good. Packers, Cowboys. 74 minutes of
- 2:45football and we still couldn't figure out who won that game.
- 2:48We had jets. Dolphins fields is the problem,
- 2:50not the answer. Dolphins bad, Jets worse.
- 2:53Also, sorry to tyree code that. That was gross.
- 2:57That was rough. That was rough.
- 3:00Bengals, Broncos Evan Ware type injury.
- 3:02Yeah. If you guys remember that.
- 3:04Louisville. That's a deep.
- 3:06Yeah, that's a. Deep I was.
- 3:08Actually talking about that today.
- 3:10I was actually talking about that today.
- 3:13And our our final Monday Night Football game, we had Bengals,
- 3:16Broncos. The Bengals are about to have a
- 3:18fire sale. They are the worst team in NFL
- 3:20right now. Even though they've won a game,
- 3:22they are the worst team in NFL. They have all the offensive
- 3:25weapons and still can't do anything. 3 total points.
- 3:27When you have Chase Brown, Jamar, Chase T Higgins, you've
- 3:31got, I don't even know who your Titans are anymore.
- 3:33You've got the worst team in NFL.
- 3:34You can't stop anybody. You can't score.
- 3:36You are the worst. Don't forget about Shamar.
- 3:40Well, he didn't even play. He wasn't playing.
- 3:42I can't forget about him. Yeah, it's the first round pick,
- 3:45not even playing anyway, that was before in this show all.
- 3:50Right, Thanks, Will. Appreciate that.
- 3:53All right. So like I mentioned before,
- 3:55we've got some good stuff for you guys.
- 3:56Today. We're going to talk about our
- 3:58top three MVP candidates. After week four of the season,
- 4:01we're going to discuss what is a franchise quarterback.
- 4:05But before we do all that, we're going to do our NFL gender
- 4:09reveal and. What do we identify as now?
- 4:18Exactly, So the way that we picked had the order in this is
- 4:23I sent a text to the guys saying how many sacks do you think
- 4:27Micah Parsons is going to get against the Cowboys?
- 4:29And whoever gets it or gets closest to it gets to decide who
- 4:33goes first. So Avery won and Avery decided
- 4:35that the order is going to be will myself and then himself and
- 4:40so will turn the time back over to you.
- 4:43Let us know who your new NFL team is.
- 4:45Oh, here we go. It has been 5-6 weeks, right
- 4:51since we left the Dallas Cowboys.
- 4:52I've been a Dallas Cowboys fan for 32 years now.
- 4:56And so this was a, this is a big life decision, a big pivotal
- 5:00moment in my life, which is kind of weird to say because it's
- 5:02just a, it's just a football team to follow.
- 5:05But weekly. This effects my mood.
- 5:08This affects the decisions I make.
- 5:11This effects a lot of things in my life way more than you
- 5:13should. I know it sounds super sad, but
- 5:15that's just. For my children, everything.
- 5:17I mean, that's just fandom. And so after talking with
- 5:21family, friends, everything like that, I have decided, we have
- 5:24decided that the right move is staying with the Dallas Cowboys.
- 5:32No, I'm just kidding. You're.
- 5:33Kidding me? I'm just kidding.
- 5:34I was like no way. I was going to be.
- 5:41I was going to be so pissed. For a second.
- 5:43I helped myself getting there, but he took the thing off.
- 5:46We're going with the Los Angeles.
- 5:47We're taking the local team. As I mentioned last week,
- 5:51visibility is important to me and going to Los Angeles, being
- 5:55on the West Coast, is technically drivable.
- 5:57You can make a weekend out of it.
- 5:59There's other stuff to do in Lai Am.
- 6:02I'm excited watching the Rams game this week, this last week
- 6:05was really exciting and my wife was sleeping on my chest and I
- 6:09was trying my hardest not to wake her up.
- 6:11But like every time they would do anything like 2-2 hours was
- 6:14big and upset or big touchdown at the end.
- 6:16They're like, Oh my gosh, she said I'm trying to sleep.
- 6:19But yeah, but did you see this 80 something not touchdown you
- 6:22got this is? Our.
- 6:23Team, right? So yeah, that's that's where it
- 6:26is moving forward the Los Angeles Rams.
- 6:33All right. I knew it was an LA team.
- 6:36I knew it was an LA team. I I was.
- 6:38I knew it was the Rams. I knew it.
- 6:40I was going to pick the Chargers, honestly, but I knew
- 6:43it was one of those two. Who do you guys think my team
- 6:46is? I think it's the Bucks, but I
- 6:52also could see it being the bills.
- 6:56Yeah, I'm, I don't think it's the Bronco.
- 7:00I think it's one of those two. I think it's bears all.
- 7:05Right. Well, the team that I have
- 7:08decided to choose as my new favorite team is the Tampa Bay
- 7:14Buccaneers. I love it, I love it.
- 7:17No, here's here's the real hat. Here's the real hat.
- 7:20Nice. Yeah.
- 7:22So some of the factors that played in for me is Levi's
- 7:27favorite color is red. And so that was that was kind of
- 7:30a big factor is choosing a team with his favorite color.
- 7:32Also a logo that he likes. He really likes this logo.
- 7:35Actually, when I showed him this hat, he was like, dad, I really,
- 7:38really want one of those hats, dad.
- 7:40So I was like, OK, I want that hat.
- 7:42Maybe we'll get you one for Christmas.
- 7:44And so he really likes the logo. He really likes the color.
- 7:47The location doesn't really matter that much to me because
- 7:49I've never even been to a Dallas Cowboys game.
- 7:50So if I want to go see the Bucks play, I, I'll just go to Vegas
- 7:54'cause they're the closest team to me.
- 7:55Or I can go to, you know, maybe see a Rams and, and Bucks game
- 7:58or Chargers and Bucks game in LA 'cause they're pretty close to
- 8:00me as well. Also bonus, Megan's aunt lives
- 8:04in Tampa and so that gives us a reason to go there and, and
- 8:10visit. So that's just a bonus reason.
- 8:12Another factor is this isn't, was wasn't like a huge factor
- 8:15for me, but this does play a little bit of a factor is
- 8:17current players. I'm a big fan of Baker Mayfield
- 8:20and Bucky Irving and Emeka Ibuka, as you guys know.
- 8:24And you know, it doesn't really matter to me that they're not
- 8:26always going to be there because I've been through the cycle of
- 8:29players with the Cowboys for 25 years of, you know, Jason Witten
- 8:33and Dez Bryant and all those guys.
- 8:35So that plays a little bit of a factor.
- 8:37But it's not like a like a huge factor really.
- 8:40What I like about the Buccaneers, though, is they have
- 8:42a history of bringing in guys in free agency that can help them
- 8:46win. And so I'll just stick to
- 8:48quarterbacks here. So they brought in Tom Brady,
- 8:51help them win a Super Bowl. They brought in Brad Johnson,
- 8:55help them win a Super Bowl. They brought in Baker Mayfield.
- 8:58And you know, he hasn't won a Super Bowl, but he has kept them
- 9:01competitive after they lost Tom Brady to retirement.
- 9:04They also have a history of bringing in guys who have high
- 9:08character and are just guys that you want to root for.
- 9:11So like some current guys, you've got Mike Evans, you've
- 9:13got Emeki Ibuka, you've got Baker Mayfield, some older guys,
- 9:17there's like Ronde Barber, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks.
- 9:21So that's what I really like. There was one concern that I had
- 9:25and really the biggest concern is they don't have a very good
- 9:27history of drafting quarterbacks.
- 9:30They just, they haven't really drafted quarterbacks that well.
- 9:34The last first round quarterback they drafted was Jameis Winston
- 9:36and that didn't work out too well.
- 9:38But that's just what you get with quarterbacks.
- 9:39Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't.
- 9:41But what outweighed that for me is the fact that they can bring
- 9:44in other guys like Brad Johnson and Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield
- 9:47in free agency to help them win. So I yeah, I'm picking the Tampa
- 9:53Bay Buccaneers as my new team. Called that one too.
- 9:58This is going to be the first time and in our, I mean in the
- 10:03last 25 years that you and I have rooted for different teams.
- 10:07Yep. It just looks strange, just I'm,
- 10:10I'm in the middle of my screen and I just see both of you
- 10:14wearing just two completely different hats and I would ever
- 10:19imagine you guys wearing. No, yeah, not Cowboys hats.
- 10:22Yeah, I know. Oh, it's like a parallel
- 10:26universe. I'm going to lie, it was
- 10:27strange. All right, Avery, it's your
- 10:31turn. Who was your first ever NFL?
- 10:34Team Avery, yeah, I didn't have. I had no prior team before this.
- 10:39I've always been a college guy, and I always will be a college
- 10:43guy first and foremost. But I was very excited for this
- 10:48When I heard that Joel and Will were renouncing their Cowboys
- 10:52fandom to pursue better, brighter endeavors.
- 10:55I was excited for them. And then they invited me to come
- 10:58along, and I said only if you guys are serious about it.
- 11:00And they said, oh, we're serious.
- 11:01So yeah, it's been fun because I have no real attachments here.
- 11:07I've been watching the NFL casually for about as long as
- 11:13you guys. May be a little bit less
- 11:14probably, but yeah, do you guys have a guess?
- 11:19And for everyone watching, it came down to, in alphabetical
- 11:24order, the Broncos, Bucks, Chargers, Falcons and Titans.
- 11:29Those were the teams that I landed on that were on the
- 11:33shortlist. I'm curious to hear if you guys
- 11:37have a guess. I have two guesses for two
- 11:40different reasons, but Joe, you go first.
- 11:44I don't know. There's so I can see it being
- 11:46any one of those teams. Honestly, I feel like it's I
- 11:50feel like it's the Falcons because I've had nightmares
- 11:52about you being a division rival to me.
- 11:56I I think it's going to be either the Broncos just to just
- 12:01to directly oppose Lincoln like like, like you love you love.
- 12:06I would. Do that.
- 12:06I would do that. You love Bonex, but Lincoln
- 12:10pretty much said, hey, we can move forever.
- 12:13He wants, but you guys can't be AMC West fans.
- 12:18And then in the Bone X Factor, Sean Payne, you talked a lot
- 12:21about them, how you like them or the Falcons because you talked a
- 12:26lot about how cool their logo is and the team is semi local to
- 12:30you. It's not as local as the Titans,
- 12:32and if the Titans were even a little bit good, I would
- 12:35consider them, but it's hard to be a fan of the team.
- 12:38This is why none of us that the first team off all of our list
- 12:41was the Browns. That's because they're
- 12:43perpetually bad. And so same with the Titans
- 12:46right now. They're just bad.
- 12:48And so I just can't see it. Yeah, the Titans did not make
- 12:51it. I I felt bad because The thing
- 12:54is this one, there's not a whole lot of Titans fans over here.
- 12:57You would think there would be. This is SEC country.
- 13:00This is pure college area. But yeah, I don't know.
- 13:04I just don't think I could abide like watching a few like number
- 13:10of wins that you can count on one hand type seasons.
- 13:14Like, I don't know if I want to just enter into that.
- 13:16But yeah, I did. I picked one of the other four
- 13:20teams. I thought a lot about this.
- 13:24Oh, you guys look so. Excited First, I'm so nervous I.
- 13:29Wanted to say that first of all, one thing that was important.
- 13:33I was very sneaky about how I talked about all this.
- 13:35I was trying to obfuscate, but one thing is I wanted to root
- 13:41for a color other than a blue and green Carolina Tar Heels and
- 13:46Oregon Ducks. I got enough of that gear.
- 13:48I need something a little bit different.
- 13:51The other thing I needed it to, I needed it to be at least semi
- 13:55close or at least far enough away from the West Coast.
- 14:01Yeah, and I like some of their players anyway.
- 14:03The team I chose is the Bull, yes.
- 14:11Let's go. It's awesome.
- 14:17So yeah, OK, so now Will, now Will leaves the same team as me
- 14:21and Avery joins me. Yeah, that's that's crazy.
- 14:26By the way, I do want to say that although I shared the same
- 14:30GIF in our group chat, Joel did ask like, hey, do you have your
- 14:34team yet? And I thought I was being so
- 14:37sneaky by throwing in this little GIF of Elmo going like, I
- 14:42don't know, I don't know. And he had red and orange.
- 14:46I'm like, watch this. He's going to be like, Dang, he
- 14:48didn't tell me. And then I'm going to be like,
- 14:49there were clues in there and within like a second, like
- 14:53before the GIF even fully sent, he's like, are you saying it's
- 14:57the box because of orange and red?
- 14:58And I'm like, damn it, dude. What the hell?
- 15:04It wasn't even like I said, I'm going to send a GIF with a clue,
- 15:07it was just a GIF anyway and then I just resend it.
- 15:10I'm like, Dang it, he's already on to me.
- 15:14But yeah, one thing is I think that I think they're they've
- 15:19been exciting for a bit. They do have a lot of players
- 15:22that I like. I love Bo Nicks, Troy Franklin
- 15:24on the the Broncos, but this team has Tez Johnson.
- 15:28I like him just as much. They got Bucky Irving, Mecca
- 15:32Buka, Mike Evans, Mayfield. They got some exciting players
- 15:36and I really like the pewter that like metallic, like bronze
- 15:42alloy kind of color on their helmets.
- 15:44I think it's a pretty sweet look.
- 15:47They got low ticket prices. That's always nice.
- 15:50I don't live super close, but that will be nice.
- 15:53The other thing was I don't know anybody that is a Bucs fan.
- 15:58That also played a factor for me too.
- 16:02I like, I've seen enough. I think Will's been frozen for a
- 16:05bit. Oh, there he is.
- 16:06I just had to speak him and back into existence.
- 16:10I asked a bunch of friends like who I should go with and there
- 16:14were a few people that just I mean, I was expecting to like,
- 16:17oh, give me like a good, you know, thoughtful answer.
- 16:19Just straight up said Buccaneers I.
- 16:22Was. Like I actually might just go
- 16:23with that. Had a buddy who the Raiders fan
- 16:27who said it probably just because it's the furthest away
- 16:30from the Raiders. But I will say that the person
- 16:34who pushed me over the edge because it was kind of between
- 16:37this team, the Broncos and the Titans, actually the Titans were
- 16:42the third choice. I thought Atlanta, I was just
- 16:44like, I don't know. Anyway, my cousin, not Gare
- 16:49Bear, who we had on, but Gavin, Gavin Webb, I asked him about
- 16:54this and that man, that boy, he's he's in high school.
- 16:58He's senior in high school. He's not a man or a boy.
- 17:00I don't that that Menace to Society sent me like 3
- 17:05paragraphs per team giving me like in depth like analysis on
- 17:11like what it would mean to like be that like fan and all this
- 17:14stuff. And I'm like, jeez, dude.
- 17:16And he's like a hardcore Seahawks fan too.
- 17:18But he just gave me like the rundown.
- 17:21And after I read it all, I'm like, dude, I think I might go
- 17:23with the Bucks. I was like, dude, I think you
- 17:24convinced me to go with the Bucks.
- 17:27Anyway, very excited. Watch the game.
- 17:29Of course, it's the first loss of the season, so that was super
- 17:32fun. Yeah, right.
- 17:34But it was at least it was to the Eagles and not, you know,
- 17:38the, you know, Dolphins or the Browns or something.
- 17:40So like. I was lost to the Eagles.
- 17:41That's great. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:43Yeah, but yeah, I mean, since since we're still on the topic
- 17:48of the Bucks, because Avery picked them as his favorite team
- 17:51too, I actually wanted to share one more thing that I did not
- 17:54share. So I'm going to share my screen
- 17:56here. And I just wanted to show you
- 17:59guys this video. So if you guys can't hear this,
- 18:03let me know, but this is a video of Baker Mayfield talking to
- 18:08Jason and Travis Kelsey on their show, and they're talking about
- 18:11how Baker Mayfield found a home in Tampa Bay.
- 18:15And so I'm just going to play this video for you guys real
- 18:17quick. What has it been about you and
- 18:20Tampa? I mean, you've you've played
- 18:22well at times everywhere you've been, but in Tampa it's really
- 18:25gone to that next level. What do you think has led to
- 18:27that? You know, I this isn't there
- 18:31shit on the other teams and franchises?
- 18:32No, man. You already know.
- 18:35You already know, but like the when you step in and your GM and
- 18:38your head coach say, hey, just be you, after I've been told at
- 18:42every stop and everywhere I go, hey, you need to tone it down a
- 18:45little bit. You need to be a franchise
- 18:46quarterback. Like, it's just not who I am.
- 18:48Yeah. Where are my emotions?
- 18:49On my sleeves? We've hung out.
- 18:51You guys know me. I'm going to talk shit.
- 18:52I'm going to do whatever. But when it's time to turn the
- 18:54lights on and go do something, I'm going to do it.
- 18:56So when I stepped into the building, they all told me to
- 18:58just be myself. And so it's been, not to say
- 19:01like comfortable, but it's felt like home since the beginning.
- 19:04And it's a quarterback that's been through a little bit of a
- 19:06journey. You can't ask for anything else.
- 19:11So let me unshare. So that was one of the the
- 19:15biggest factors that played in for me, because I said this on
- 19:18the last episode when talking about why I'm leaving the Dallas
- 19:21Cowboys is I feel like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the players that
- 19:24play there actually want to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 19:28And just just that video, like Baker Mayfield saying like
- 19:32everywhere else I've been, they're like, you have to be a
- 19:34franchise quarterback and then he comes to Tampa and they're
- 19:37just like, just be Baker Mayfield, just be you.
- 19:40And that's what I feel like they do with all their players.
- 19:42Like they don't. I mean, obviously there's always
- 19:45going to be pressure to win because you're in the NFL and
- 19:47and there's always going to be that pressure.
- 19:48But I just feel like that with an organization that can do that
- 19:53with its players, like that says something about the organization
- 19:55and the people that run it. So that was really important to
- 19:58me because you don't have a guy like Jerry Jones where he's
- 20:02calling people the wrong name. He doesn't even actually know
- 20:04who you are. He doesn't care if you're
- 20:06showing up to camp because eventually he'll give you your
- 20:09deal and he's going to pay you way more money than you actually
- 20:12should get. But it doesn't matter if you're
- 20:14not at training camp, though, but you know you'll eventually
- 20:17get paid. But you can just go do whatever
- 20:18you want for the what, however much time that is.
- 20:21And then just, you know, show up and just play the season because
- 20:24you're getting paid that much, but you don't actually really
- 20:26care that much about winning because you know you're not
- 20:27going to win. Like that's not the Tampa Bay
- 20:30Buccaneers at all. Like they care about their
- 20:32players. The players actually want to
- 20:33play there. And that was that was a really
- 20:37big factor for me. I won't show this on on the
- 20:40screen here, but another thing that I saw actually just today
- 20:43that confirmed this is there was a picture of Chris Godwin with a
- 20:48quote that said the Buccaneers always believed in me and that
- 20:52was that was that was another big like big just like
- 20:55confirming factor. Even though I already picked the
- 20:58bucks like that, that just told me like I'd pick the right team
- 21:00for me. So that was that was a big
- 21:02reason why I picked the Buccaneers.
- 21:03I. Want to hear more about Will's
- 21:08kind of process, about how it kind of got narrowed down?
- 21:12Sure. So as I've mentioned a couple
- 21:14times, my wife and I went through every team and through
- 21:17the, the logos, through the teams, through the players.
- 21:20And we started watching games like watching this team,
- 21:23watching that team. And she's the one that actually
- 21:25first said, I think I, I think I kind of like the Rams the most
- 21:28right now because I gave her the list of, of actually I didn't
- 21:32give her my list. I, she knew we were going
- 21:34through this process. I said, Hey, who are your top
- 21:36teams? And and I didn't want to
- 21:38influence her on on my people. I wanted to see what she had to
- 21:41say and I can find it here. But I think she told me she
- 21:45liked the Rams. The sorry me.
- 21:50Just find it here. It's worth it's worth a second.
- 21:52I believe I also have that text that you sent me.
- 21:56You may actually. Oh, here it is.
- 21:59So she said. Or this is what you told me, she
- 22:01said. She said not in any order.
- 22:03Bills, Rams, Patriots or Packers.
- 22:06I can't decide. And then her next three were
- 22:08Raiders, Bucks and Cowboys. Yep, I just had the same thing.
- 22:11So I asked, I asked her that if she'd pick a top three at that
- 22:15point. And this was back in September
- 22:1717th. So we're sitting about half a
- 22:19month ago now before the three of us even decided on a
- 22:22deadline. There was no well, we had we had
- 22:25the before next season, but there was no like imminent
- 22:28decision right now kind of thing.
- 22:30I mean, so she said Bills, Rams and then Patriots or Packers.
- 22:34I'm not too big on the patriots just in general and the Packers.
- 22:39I could like the Packers, but I I can't like the Packers.
- 22:42That's really came down to bills a rant because both teams were
- 22:45on my top top list as well, which she didn't later asked me
- 22:48eventually, well, who were my top three?
- 22:50And so we were talking about it and she had said, well, I, I
- 22:54think I like the Rams, but I don't really have a good
- 22:56explanation. She she likes the logo.
- 22:58I like the logo, the colors, the stadium is really nice.
- 23:02Big Matt Stafford fans. It just kind of all just kind of
- 23:06fell into place. There was no no like immediate
- 23:11This is why or this is this is the absolute stand out thing.
- 23:14Separately, the the Bighorn Ram, my favorite animal.
- 23:19I they I love them more than anything.
- 23:20It's actually my my background on my computer is a Big Horn
- 23:23ramp, which was not actually a factor in picking A-Team, but if
- 23:27the shoe fits, might as well wear it.
- 23:28So I should introduce you to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
- 23:34And so, so I have been looking up Rams apparel for, oh, I don't
- 23:39know, I think I sensed the first Amazon link Monday, September
- 23:4522nd. So it's been it's been a full
- 23:47week of sending just hey, what's up this like this?
- 23:50I was like just different apparel and stuff like that.
- 23:53And, and the Carolina Tar Heel and in CSU Rams and locally
- 23:59there's a, a Catholic High School in Regis at Regis and
- 24:03Staton and other Regis Rams. And so I'm getting a lot of like
- 24:06overlap of like other Rams states that have to be very
- 24:10specific, but I want I want you to Los Angeles Rams.
- 24:13My real hang up. And this is I will get over
- 24:16this, my real hang up with it as I hate California.
- 24:20I hate California, but I will excuse the Rams.
- 24:25I was reading their history and the Rams were there first and
- 24:28then there was the Ray Los Angeles Raiders.
- 24:30There was originally the Los Angeles Chargers and they were
- 24:33they were getting overdone. So they moved out to San
- 24:36Francisco or San Diego, and then the Raiders moved to Oakland.
- 24:39And then they moved. They tried to move back.
- 24:41And the Rams moved to Saint Louis and they had tried to move
- 24:43back. It was a whole thing.
- 24:44I had other notes. The history of it all is is very
- 24:47interesting to me. So go Rams.
- 24:51Yeah. Another part of this for me was
- 24:54just the I like Lincoln's story. I mean, I've known about it
- 24:58since, you know, we were kids, but basically just him playing
- 25:00that game of Madden and just hitting random and then, you
- 25:03know, playing with the team and vibing with it and being like,
- 25:06this is going to be the team. Like I kind of like the element
- 25:09of like, I don't have to choose like the Seahawks because that's
- 25:13where I'm originally from. I don't have to choose the
- 25:16Titans because that's where I live, you know, closest to now.
- 25:18It's kind of like, I kind of like the idea of not being like
- 25:23this is based on all the analysis the best team for me.
- 25:27I kind of like the idea of just choosing and then being like,
- 25:30that's it. Like that's it.
- 25:32Like I'm I'm a fan now. Like watching the game this
- 25:35Sunday was awesome. I was like, dude, this is like.
- 25:38This is how we have the wife, Avery.
- 25:40Yeah. Oh, there was one more factor I
- 25:44already hate. Already have a burning hatred
- 25:47for the 49ers and the Seahawks. So.
- 25:51So I already hate the divisional rivals, so all good there.
- 25:54Like I don't have to to learn that I already hate them.
- 26:01Yeah, yeah, that's a good reason.
- 26:03All right, well, I'm excited. So Will Avery and I will see you
- 26:07in Week 12 on Sunday Night Football.
- 26:11Yes. We do that, Rams.
- 26:13That'll be big. That'll be big.
- 26:16That could be for. Our our first rivalry game that.
- 26:20Yeah, that'll be huge, Huge for the pod.
- 26:25All right, cool. Well, now you guys all know our
- 26:28NFL genders and so we will move on to our next segment here
- 26:32because we got so we we went about half the show just talking
- 26:35about our our new genders there so.
- 26:38That means that we're going to be we're going to be wearing our
- 26:43team gear to the Raiders Jags game, right?
- 26:47Because I don't think anyone there will care.
- 26:49Yeah, that won't be like going into a Philadelphia like an
- 26:51Eagles game or anything. This will be like transplants
- 26:55and vacationers, clearly. Yeah, let's do it.
- 26:59I was going to wear my Amari Cooper jersey, but he's a Dallas
- 27:02Cowboys Mari Cooper jersey, but Amari Cooper retire.
- 27:04He's none of the writers anymore and I don't like the Cowboys, so
- 27:08I'm not wearing that anyway. All right, cool.
- 27:13So now we're going to get into our top three MVP rankings after
- 27:17Week 4. It's about 1/4 way through the
- 27:19season. It's not exactly 1/4 way 'cause
- 27:22you know, there's 18 weeks, but it's pretty much a quarter way.
- 27:26So Will, why don't you start us off on this one?
- 27:29Who are your top three MVPS after?
- 27:32Week 4 man, I really wanted to put somebody that wasn't a
- 27:36quarterback in this list. I, I really wanted to, I, I, I
- 27:41looked and I, I tried to so hard.
- 27:46It just didn't happen. And beings that I'm wearing this
- 27:50hat, I feel like I'm going to get some hatred here.
- 27:54But first up, I do have Matthew Stafford.
- 27:57He's got first, first up he's got, he's second in the league
- 28:02in passing yards. He's got 8 touchdowns, 2
- 28:04interceptions. He's got a one O 6.1 rating.
- 28:08In the year he's only been sacked 8 times and that seems
- 28:11like a lot but if you look at somebody like Drake May who is
- 28:16not, I mean he has not had a bad season overall.
- 28:19He's been sacked 13 times so and that's five more over four games
- 28:24is significant. The thing that Matthew Stafford
- 28:27doesn't have that matter to candidates, will, is he does
- 28:30not, right, right. He's a, he's a pocket passer.
- 28:33He's a classic kind of quarterback.
- 28:34Another factor of me being drawn to the Rams, I'm a big classic
- 28:38kind of kind of quarterback guy. I like, yeah, you're just
- 28:41standing in the pocket and throwing football.
- 28:43But I, I do like Stafford. I like what he's doing.
- 28:46The Rams are putting it together.
- 28:48Devonte Adams is feeding him well with that team, and it's
- 28:51making Stafford shrine through even more.
- 28:52I #2 Nah, he's going third. He's going third.
- 28:58I don't like it, but he's going 3rd.
- 29:00I'm going to go with, I guess, Batman.
- 29:08See, this is I, I there's too many options because everyone is
- 29:12mediocre. Everyone at the top is kind of
- 29:14bunched up, and then there's just mediocre behind them.
- 29:17Right? Yeah.
- 29:19And So what matters more? Is it the passing and running?
- 29:22Is it just the passing? Is it winning?
- 29:24Right? Because Lamar Jackson 10
- 29:26touchdowns, 1 interception this season, he's got 800 or not.
- 29:30Yeah, 869 yards, but their team's one and three.
- 29:33He's got 170 something rushing yards in a in a rushing
- 29:35touchdown. I don't think he cracks the top
- 29:37three because their team is losing and and Joe Burrow had a
- 29:41great season last year, but their team sucked and he was
- 29:44even considered. And so going back to the winning
- 29:46teams, I've got Jordan Love up here.
- 29:49I'm skipping over some guys that probably deserve it more.
- 29:51Jordan Love has 1000 yards, 69% completion percentage, 8
- 29:55touchdowns, 1 interception. And that touchdown interception
- 29:58ratio is is rather important. He might even be over.
- 30:03Matt Stafford is only 14 more yards there and Jordan Lovestrin
- 30:06won last interception. But the problem is, is that when
- 30:09the when the Packers look bad, they look really bad and they
- 30:14look bad against the Browns this year.
- 30:16So it doesn't pass the eye test near as much.
- 30:19And 3rd, there's just too many like right here options.
- 30:24I'm going to go with Jared Duff for number 3 here.
- 30:27I think the Lions are having a great year.
- 30:29He's only got 929 yards. I don't have his rushing yards
- 30:33right in front of me. I don't think it's 0, but it's
- 30:36not a lot. 9 touchdowns, 2 picks, 73% completely 73.8.
- 30:41He's got some deep balls. He's got all their weapons.
- 30:43That team looks good and it makes it makes Jared Goff look
- 30:46good too. And and the MVP race, the eye
- 30:51test matters a lot there. Notably, I did skip over Josh
- 30:55Allen. I did skip over Daniel Jones,
- 30:58Justin Herbert, well, these guys that probably deserve it more.
- 31:02And chances are at the end of the year, it'll go to either
- 31:05Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, right?
- 31:07Like that's just who is going to go to right now.
- 31:09If Patrick Mahomes keep up, keeps up the way he's been
- 31:11playing the last couple weeks. And it could go that way, but I,
- 31:14I don't know. I, I like to do the guys right
- 31:16now, their teams are playing well.
- 31:18And so it's making the quarterback stand out even more.
- 31:22Also, I wanted people's names in there that weren't Josh Allen.
- 31:25The more Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are my top three.
- 31:30That's too obvious. Let's mix it up a bit.
- 31:35All right, Avery, you're next. Give us your top three MVP
- 31:38rankings after Week 4. I got Josh Allen.
- 31:41At #1 Yeah. Way to follow that up.
- 31:46Here's the thing, the way I see it, the Bills are, I think as of
- 31:50right now, they're the best team in the league and he's the best
- 31:53player on that team. I'm sure that he could have a
- 31:55little bit better stats maybe, but that's not how I see it.
- 31:58I don't think they're playing to prove anything stat wise.
- 32:02I think they're just trying to win games and I just think of
- 32:05any team, any quarterback I would not want the Bucks to go
- 32:08up against. And even though they just lost
- 32:10the Eagle, I still wouldn't want him to go up against the Bills.
- 32:12So I got to put Josh Allen up there just because I feel like
- 32:17any other quarterback, like if you swap teams with people, or I
- 32:21mean, I'll just go ahead and say real quick for my other guys are
- 32:25because it kind of feeds into this, but I got Matthew Stafford
- 32:29at 2 and Jordan Love at three. The big difference.
- 32:32And I would even say that Josh Allen separates himself here.
- 32:36And and that's not to say that, you know, the other guys are
- 32:39putting up great stats and they're winning, but kind of
- 32:42like Daniel Jones, who I'd probably have it like 4, maybe 5
- 32:45here is that it's sought. It feels like such a delicate
- 32:50situation, like Daniel Jones from before this season to now
- 32:56just feels like, hey, don't touch anything on the team,
- 32:59don't switch up any coaching. Like, let him cook because I'm
- 33:03afraid if we change something, he'll default back to Giants
- 33:07settings. And I feel like a lot of the
- 33:09quarterbacks are kind of in that situation.
- 33:12I think Matthew Stafford is kind of is a great, great system
- 33:16quarterback. I think that he played great at
- 33:18Lions, but like was too dependent on the rest of that
- 33:21team to function to even be like, dude's been in the league
- 33:25so long. He was drafted with Mark
- 33:28Sanchez, Percy Harvin, BJ Rodney from the Packers, who retired
- 33:35about a decade ago. Nah, it was, yeah, a decade ago.
- 33:40It's 2015, dude. This guy's been in the league so
- 33:43long. And The thing is, is it's really
- 33:46just you make sure he has the right personnel around him and
- 33:49then he just won't make mistakes.
- 33:50But he's not a guy that's going to like, I mean, maybe he can,
- 33:53but he hasn't been known in his career to be a guy that's like
- 33:57putting the team on his back. He's just been a like kind of
- 34:00like Joe Burrow. He's like he's getting all these
- 34:02stats. His team's not winning.
- 34:04But like we're not blaming him. But also he's not willing the
- 34:08team to a bunch of victories. And I feel like that's what Josh
- 34:11Allen has. If any team could redraft and
- 34:16they had the first take, I feel like Josh Allen's the 1st to go.
- 34:19I feel like he's the biggest difference maker and I know that
- 34:21I was talking with Joel before Will got on about like what the
- 34:24criteria would be for this. Is it like, are we just talking
- 34:27like first four weeks, if that was the whole season, who wins
- 34:29the award? Or is it based on like what it
- 34:32looks like moving forward? But I feel like until there's,
- 34:36you know, I guess a clear defining line in the stats or
- 34:39the win column, I feel like Josh Allen is just that guy right now
- 34:43all. Right, Yeah, I also have Josh
- 34:47Allen at 1:00 and you know, Avery mentioned about his stats.
- 34:50So just some stats that really show like why he should be #1 is
- 34:55he's completing 70.2% of his passes right now, which would be
- 34:59a career high if he sustains that throughout the season.
- 35:02Also that what would be a career high is his passage rating,
- 35:05which is one O 9.7 right now. If he maintains that or it goes
- 35:10higher, that is a career high for Josh Allen.
- 35:11So he's actually playing some of the best football that he's ever
- 35:15played in his career right now. And he's on pace to rush for 675
- 35:19rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
- 35:21And his team has not lost. So that's why I have him at #1
- 35:25at #2 I also have Matthew Stafford actually.
- 35:28And, you know, I kind of struggled with #2 to be honest,
- 35:32because I feel like there's a lot of guys that you could put
- 35:33in there. And I did look at when Matthew
- 35:37Stafford or what he ranked in the MVP voting when Cooper Cup
- 35:41had his monster season because Puka Nakua is having a monster
- 35:46season right now. He's on pace to get over 2000
- 35:49receiving yards so far. And so I feel like the reason
- 35:52that Stafford is not at #1 for me is because of Puka Nakua.
- 35:56Because I feel like that you people could make the argument
- 35:59like, oh, well, the reason Matt Stafford is so good is because
- 36:01he just throws the ball to Puka Nukua 20,000 * a game.
- 36:05And so that's why I didn't put him at 1:00.
- 36:06But I do think he's having a really, really good start to the
- 36:09season. And so that's why I put him at
- 36:11two at 3. I get to make my first Homer
- 36:15pick with Baker Mayfield at #3 And the reason that I put Baker
- 36:21Mayfield at #3 is because without Baker Mayfield, I don't
- 36:26think that there's any chance that the Buccaneers would be 3
- 36:29in one. In every single game.
- 36:31Baker Mayfield has been put in bad situations by parts of his
- 36:35team, special teams. I am talking to you.
- 36:37He has been been put in bad situations by his special team
- 36:42specifically and he has had to dig them out of that hole.
- 36:45He led the first three games. He led a game-winning drive to
- 36:48win the game and then in the game against the Eagles, they
- 36:52were down 24 to 3 at one point and Baker Mayfield brought that
- 36:57team together and brought them back into that game to bring
- 37:00them within one score. They had a legit chance to
- 37:03actually win that game. They didn't win, but they had a
- 37:07chance to actually win the game after being down 24 to 3:00
- 37:10because of Baker Mayfield. And so I don't feel like there's
- 37:14any other quarterback right now that you could say that about in
- 37:17the league where he is the reason that they are three and
- 37:20one, 100%. He is the reason that they are
- 37:23three and one. And you know his his stats don't
- 37:26even look that good, which is part of the reason why I have
- 37:28him at 3 is because he has only completed 59.7% of his passes.
- 37:32He's not on pace to throw for 4000 yards and his passive
- 37:36rating is only good for 16th in the league right now.
- 37:38But if it wasn't for Baker Mayfield, the Buccaneers are
- 37:43nowhere near 3 in one. And so that's why I put him at
- 37:453, So I've got Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford and Baker
- 37:49Mayfield. I love Rams legend Baker
- 37:52Mayfield. He's great.
- 37:54It's a good picture. Hey, hey.
- 37:56We have that connection. Yeah, we do have that connection
- 37:59there. Well, like, you're welcome for
- 38:00prepping them for you guys. All right, all right, I'm just
- 38:07going to say real quick and then we'll move on to our last topic.
- 38:10I do have a dark horse pick for MVP and it is Patriots
- 38:14quarterback Drake May. So I like that Will brought it
- 38:17up and the reason he's a dark horse is because the Patriots
- 38:21are two and two right now. And if the Patriots can just
- 38:24make the play offs, they don't have to be good.
- 38:26Like they don't even have to be like the best team if they just
- 38:29make the play offs. Drake May, his statistics will
- 38:32put him somewhere in the conversation.
- 38:35I don't think he would win it because you know, you still got
- 38:38guys like Josh Allen who are up there, but he's on pace to throw
- 38:41for 4200 passing yards, 30 touchdowns.
- 38:44He has the highest completion percentage in the league right
- 38:47now with 74%. He has the 5th best passer
- 38:50rating and he's on track to rush for a little over 400 yards and
- 38:558 to 9 rushing touchdowns. So I feel like if he maintains
- 38:59the stats that he has right now throughout the season and the
- 39:02Patriots make the play offs, it would give him at least a chance
- 39:07to get a vote for MVP. That's why he's a dark horse.
- 39:11I like it. Going off what you said about
- 39:14Baker real quick, did you showcases the value that and
- 39:19this is really completely separate truly, but going off
- 39:22what you said about Baker with the the bucks this year goes to
- 39:25show the true value of Joe Burrow to the Bengals right
- 39:30without without Joe Burrow and that team that that Bengals team
- 39:35is truly the worst in the NFL garbage.
- 39:38They are so bad. They shouldn't be It's like the
- 39:41Steelers defense. It should be better.
- 39:43They're paying all that money, but it's just OK.
- 39:47This Bengals team isn't even OK. They're paying their offense a
- 39:50lot of money. But if you lose one guy who all
- 39:54he's doing is putting literally everything he has, including his
- 39:56toe on the line for you guys. And it's just, it just goes to
- 40:01show the value of these guys. It's wild that like what he's
- 40:06doing right now has just like proven his worth to the team,
- 40:10but he can't even leverage it because he already has.
- 40:13He can't get paid anymore if he wants his team to get any
- 40:15better. So it's kind of like I'm already
- 40:18like, I'm already capped out and now like, we still need a better
- 40:22team. Yikes.
- 40:25As much as it kind of sucks to say, I think also that Prescott
- 40:29gets some honorable mention here because it started very bad and
- 40:33most games it starts very bad. But even yesterday, and we've
- 40:36got it in fantasy and so we see it.
- 40:39I I saw a headline and I rolled my eyes, but it because it the
- 40:42game ended in a tie, but it was Dak Prescott finally unleashed
- 40:46for the season. I said, OK, but you didn't even
- 40:48win. OK, you didn't lose.
- 40:49Sure we didn't win. And so if he continues the way
- 40:53he played yesterday, the second-half of of Sunday's game,
- 40:59he could have a fair chance. I don't think that team's going
- 41:03to win very many games this year.
- 41:04So that would kind of kick him out like Lamar Jackson.
- 41:07But he has a a shot if he keeps playing the way he finished that
- 41:10game. That's why I didn't put him in,
- 41:13because I don't think the Cowboys are going to win very
- 41:15many games because their defense is just terrible and Dak
- 41:18Prescott's going to have to play at that level every single game
- 41:21in order to tie. In order to tie, right?
- 41:24Not even win, just tie. Like Joe Burrow did last year,
- 41:27had to play Lights Out and he's still lost anyway.
- 41:31Right, right, all right. So this conversation kind of
- 41:35leads into our last topic. And this topic was it came to my
- 41:39mind based off of a Instagram post from Fun Football Podcast.
- 41:43So shout out to Fun Football Podcast for the inspiration.
- 41:46He raised the question and he's a Packers fan, so he raised the
- 41:48question, is Jordan Love a franchise quarterback?
- 41:52And so this got me thinking about the question.
- 41:54Well, what is a franchise quarterback?
- 41:56Because I feel like based off of that question about Jordan Love,
- 41:59you could say that he is or he isn't, depending on how you view
- 42:04what a franchise quarterback is. And so we're just going to talk
- 42:07about what is actually a franchise quarterback.
- 42:10And so to start this off, I'm not going to tell you guys the
- 42:12names of these players, but I have three players that I, I
- 42:16looked at their careers and their how long they've been in
- 42:18the NFL, their win percentage, their playoff percentage, how
- 42:21many times they've made the playoffs, all that stuff.
- 42:23And I'm just going to read it to you guys and you may be able to
- 42:25figure out who it is just based off of me reading it.
- 42:28But I'm going to read these stats and I want you guys to
- 42:30tell me just based off the stats alone, is this a franchise
- 42:34quarterback or is it not a franchise quarterback?
- 42:36The first one. This is his 10th year in the
- 42:38league. He has a 61% win percentage in
- 42:41the regular season. He has made the play offs five
- 42:44times. He is 2 and five in the play
- 42:47offs and he has been second in MVP voting.
- 42:51Is that a franchise quarterback or not a franchise quarterback?
- 42:53I know who this is. If you know it, just you can say
- 42:56it. Arguably, you should have won
- 42:57MVP that year. This is Dak Beschbach, Yeah.
- 43:00It is, yeah, that Prescott. I feel like the answer is yes,
- 43:03because a true franchise quarterback, in my opinion, is
- 43:09good enough to get a team there but shouldn't have to do
- 43:13everything by themselves because it takes a full team to win.
- 43:17And it has been proven half of his career a little over 'cause
- 43:22I think this is his tent here. Yeah.
- 43:24And so if he's been in the playoffs, yes.
- 43:25If he's been in the playoffs five times in nine years, it's
- 43:28it's a little over 50% of the time he's made in the playoffs.
- 43:31And two wins, some of it is definitely on him.
- 43:34But having seen all of those playoff games, every single one
- 43:38of them, he's not out there playing defense.
- 43:40He's not the one that can't stop the run, all right?
- 43:44He's not the one on the Aaron Jones run for 250 yards on the
- 43:48the Dallas defense. So.
- 43:50So I would say yes, yeah. No joke.
- 43:55All right, cool, so the next one.
- 43:57This player has also been in the league for 10 years, so this is
- 44:00his 10th season. He has a 60.8% win percentage.
- 44:04He has also made the playoffs five times.
- 44:06He has five and five in the playoffs.
- 44:09He did not win, but he has played in a super.
- 44:11Bowl. I know who this is too.
- 44:15Who is it? Jared Goff.
- 44:17It is Jared Goff. I'm good at this game, Avery.
- 44:21You take this one. You got him, I would say.
- 44:24Yeah, I I like the point that Will brought up, which is that,
- 44:29you know, it's not just the quarterback that wins these
- 44:32games. You know you can only will it so
- 44:34much I mean. I feel like.
- 44:40I feel like Baker could have willed it out if that punter had
- 44:45done his job, You know, the first drive, right?
- 44:47Just. And so there's things like that
- 44:49where it's like, OK, we all saw this game and we all not, you
- 44:54know, I'm not talking about any particular game, but, you know,
- 44:56if you guys lose, if you lose a game, you know, everyone who's
- 44:59watching it, like kind of knows what the factors were.
- 45:03However, Fast forward five years, it's the quarterback's
- 45:07fault. You know, it's like, how many
- 45:09games have you won? And so I feel like on one hand,
- 45:14I feel like stability and consistency are probably like
- 45:17some of the biggest markers of a franchise quarterback.
- 45:20I almost feel like it's kind of like, hey, look, you know, like
- 45:23with Dak or with Jared Goff, it's like, look, we have these
- 45:26two guys here that are more than capable of doing the job.
- 45:31Can we please get some adequate players at these other
- 45:34physicians to allow them to do that job?
- 45:36Because right now we're either putting too much expectations on
- 45:39them or asking them to do too much to the point where it's
- 45:42getting a little sloppy. It's not as methodical, it's not
- 45:45as well-rounded. And so I feel like it's it's I
- 45:48kind of see it almost as a placeholder.
- 45:50It's like, oh, sweet, you guys have your, you know, your
- 45:53franchise quarterback. It's too bad you don't have the
- 45:56right pieces to win a Super Bowl.
- 45:58What a total waste. You know, because I, I, I do
- 46:01feel like having a solid quarterback is kind of like, you
- 46:03know what, the Cowboy situation, you don't having that
- 46:05generational pass rusher where it's like, look, you don't just
- 46:08pick one of these up in free agency casually.
- 46:11Like, we got this now let's go out and put together this team.
- 46:14And I feel like the bringing it background to the Bucks, I feel
- 46:18like that's what they'll do is they'll like find guys that's
- 46:20like, look, we can rather than being having this stringent kind
- 46:23of culture that we're trying to, you know, make everyone be a
- 46:26certain thing. It's like, hey, look, we drafted
- 46:28you, we picked you up. We know what you're about.
- 46:30We did our homework. We want you to be you.
- 46:33You know, we want you to be professional at the games.
- 46:35We come in here and win. We want you to win.
- 46:38But for the most part, rounding up, getting all the way back to
- 46:41what we're we're talking about, I feel like that consistency and
- 46:45that ability to perform is probably just the most important
- 46:48thing. I feel like a guy like Matt
- 46:50Stafford sticking around the league as long as he has, like,
- 46:53I think he could be a franchise quarterback.
- 46:55And I feel like you've seen it like as soon as you put him on a
- 46:59team that has the other pieces, he comes alive.
- 47:02And then I feel like when Goff got traded over to the Lions and
- 47:05they basically swapped in, you know, they kind of had a bit of
- 47:07a culture shift, you know, what their new coach and everything,
- 47:10and it kind of like brought everything back to life.
- 47:12But really just consistency. All right, so the third one.
- 47:17So this player has been in the league for five years, so this
- 47:21is his fifth season. He has a 54% win percentage.
- 47:25He has made the playoffs twice and he is 1 and two in the
- 47:29playoffs. This Jordan Love, who is this?
- 47:34It is Jordan love. Oh.
- 47:36Shoot, technically, technically he has made the playoffs three
- 47:39times, but I didn't want to give it away by saying, oh, he was
- 47:41the starter for the first, you know, couple.
- 47:44Years. Yeah, Yeah.
- 47:46So, but it is Jordan Love. I would say, I would say he is.
- 47:51I was not high on him even when we started this podcast, but
- 47:55just seeing the his production, maybe he is.
- 47:58And then it kind of brings me back to what I was talking about
- 48:01before. It's like maybe the Packers just
- 48:02had that team ready where you you put in any quarterback,
- 48:06because I feel like there's teams where like you could
- 48:08probably put in Chador and he wouldn't be half bad.
- 48:11You know, if if if you if you bring in a guy that like is
- 48:14properly protected, has time to pass, has playmakers, has a run
- 48:19game, has a defense that doesn't put pressure on the offense.
- 48:22These guys are all professional quarterbacks.
- 48:24I feel like a lot of times it's like it is kind of a delicate
- 48:28situation, like I was saying with Daniel Jones, where it's
- 48:31like maybe it is just the right situation.
- 48:33You know, a quarterback, you know, you're constantly under
- 48:35pressure in the pocket. Maybe there's a few little
- 48:38changes that need to happen for the quarterback just to like
- 48:41calm down a bit. And then that kind of what is it
- 48:44that avalanche kind of what's the the balls rolling snowball
- 48:48effect where it's like, OK, I'm a little more comfortable.
- 48:51I complete a few more passes, gets us a few more first downs,
- 48:54few more scores, were a little bit more comfortable, gives us a
- 48:56few more wins. And so a lot of time I've, I
- 49:00just feel like, yeah, maybe it's even like Baker's like I just
- 49:02didn't feel like I was home. I didn't feel like they really
- 49:05like I was allowed to be me. And that probably hindered him
- 49:09enough, you know, to not do as well as he could have done,
- 49:12right. Yeah.
- 49:13Anyways, I'm rambling. All right, well, I have I
- 49:17actually have three more names if you guys want me to keep
- 49:19going. I have three more names here
- 49:20that we could talk about, but I also want to make sure that you
- 49:23guys get your your stuff in. It's like if you guys have
- 49:25something to say, feel free, but I have three more names if you
- 49:29guys want me to do them. I want.
- 49:32To OK, OK. So this next one, this player is
- 49:36in their fourth season. He has a 63% win percentage.
- 49:41He has made the playoffs twice. He has a four and two record in
- 49:44the playoffs. He has not won, but he has
- 49:46played in the Super Bowl. I'm dealer party.
- 49:49That's not pretty, right? It is Brock pretty.
- 49:52Oh, shoot. Dang, so a lot of guessing on
- 49:56these. I don't know these.
- 49:58I wanted to put him on there because Will specifically does
- 50:01not like Brock Purdy and so I feel like Will should answer
- 50:05this one. So the question is, is Brock
- 50:10Purdy a franchise quarterback, right?
- 50:13Yes, yes. And would you have said yes?
- 50:17Would you have said yes? If you say no, would you have
- 50:19said yes based off of just those statistics without knowing his
- 50:23name? I would probably say yes, right,
- 50:27Because if you're, if you're good enough to get to the
- 50:29playoffs, what, twice, Three times?
- 50:32Twice. Twice in a Super Bowl?
- 50:34Once. Yeah.
- 50:35So two times in four years. Is this his fourth year?
- 50:39This is his. 4th so so two times in three years because this one
- 50:42doesn't count. Right.
- 50:43Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so two times in three
- 50:45years and won the Super Bowl appearance is that is the dream.
- 50:49You draft a guy at any spot you get in in his three full
- 50:54seasons, you get to the Super Bowl ones in the playoffs twice.
- 50:57That's like the dream. I don't think he's very good,
- 51:01but in the Kyle Shanahan offense, he doesn't have to be.
- 51:04It's a lot of short passes, short dump outs.
- 51:06They've got well, had a tight end that could make the play.
- 51:09They've they've got for now at least a running back that can
- 51:12make the play. And so the short stuff is his
- 51:15game. But like Avery said, I feel like
- 51:18anybody can kind of do that, I feel like.
- 51:21What about Trey Lance? I mean, they, I, I feel like he
- 51:26had a bad deal. He had a bad shake.
- 51:27All right. They, they traded the house for
- 51:29him and they didn't even want to start him.
- 51:31Now I also think that they, they traded the house to get him when
- 51:35he played like 8 total games in his college career, which is
- 51:39wild to me. That's a Kyrie Irving stat.
- 51:41That Kyrie Irving was actually good.
- 51:43So there's a basketball reference.
- 51:44Second one actually 2 basketball references.
- 51:47I remember that and I, and as someone who, I'm sorry this is
- 51:50an aside, but it's Duke. As someone who watched most of
- 51:53his games until he got hurt and he got drafted #1 I still
- 51:58thought that was totally worth it.
- 51:59I was like, this guy was freaking magic.
- 52:02And I did I, I was not looking forward to Carolina playing him.
- 52:05So when he went #1 and that got brought up, he hasn't played
- 52:08many games. I'm like Yikes dude, this guy's
- 52:10going to tear it off anyway. Same thing with Trey.
- 52:14Lanzo didn't play a lot in college didn't go to AD one
- 52:17school and then he went what third second, something like
- 52:21that. I I I think Trey Lynch had a bad
- 52:23deal and Brock party kind of stepped in and is is giving it
- 52:27to Tom Brady mantra. I don't need to be the best.
- 52:31I need to be the best available and you'd be the best on the
- 52:34team that can put us in a spot to win.
- 52:38Now, they did just lose their first game of the season and
- 52:40they're going to lose their second one on Thursday.
- 52:42But still, when when they when they make Brock party, make the
- 52:46plays, he doesn't seem to do well.
- 52:49You did Jimmy Garoppolo, you did well.
- 52:52If I can't remember all these recent Niners quarterbacks?
- 52:56Kaepernick. Yeah, Kaepernick.
- 52:58Well, actually, we didn't need to talk.
- 52:59About that guy. Yeah, he was a bit different, so
- 53:04I I don't think. Still waiting on that try out.
- 53:08I would not call him a franchise quarterback.
- 53:12I would. I would actually call him like a
- 53:14Geno Smith type. He's currently a stop gap until
- 53:17somebody better comes along. Because let me tell you, if they
- 53:20had the option, if the right, if the Niners had the option to
- 53:24trade for a Jared Goff or even a Matt Stafford, give him a couple
- 53:30years of like actual really good weaponized quarterback play.
- 53:36I mean, you heard it over the offseason.
- 53:38Oh, let's get Aaron Rodgers. Let's bring Rodgers in here, OK?
- 53:41But you got Brock Purdy and he said he was your guy.
- 53:44And so there there's always that there's a going to be somebody
- 53:48better. You don't hear the Packers
- 53:49talking about what if we had Rogers back?
- 53:51What if we got Brady in retirement?
- 53:53What if we got Manning? Well, I'm just not Manning now.
- 53:55But but you get the sentiment. Well, not him either.
- 54:01Anymore. So, so I, I don't, I don't think
- 54:04he's a franchise quarterback. I, I, I think that he is good
- 54:08enough. Obviously, if you can get to the
- 54:10Super Bowl, you're good enough. But if the team is talking
- 54:12about, hey, who's, excuse me? If the team is talking about who
- 54:18what free agents are available and bring somebody in, then
- 54:21you're not their actual franchise guy.
- 54:25OK, Yeah, alright. So I'm interested to see what
- 54:28you guys have to say about these last two.
- 54:31So this player is in his third season.
- 54:36He has won 55.5% of his games he has made.
- 54:39What season? His third season, third, he has
- 54:44made the play offs twice and he has two and two in the play
- 54:46offs. So he has made the play offs
- 54:50both years he's been in the league.
- 54:52Oh, is this is this CJ Stroud? It is CJ Stroud.
- 54:57Dude, we're questioning. It's a free.
- 54:59You guys are doing a lot of money, I thought.
- 55:02I feel like either you know it or I know it, but neither.
- 55:05It's never both. Oh my God, you got.
- 55:08I'm like I have no idea. Dude, we are doing.
- 55:10I like to. Say, what's his freaking, what's
- 55:12his name? Clemson quarterback.
- 55:16But I was like, now he's. Been in once.
- 55:18Every once, yeah. So in his first two years, he
- 55:22made the playoffs both times, Yes.
- 55:25And now he's in his third season and.
- 55:28He won a playoff. Game and won a playoff game both
- 55:31times. I think it's too early to tell.
- 55:33Yeah, because he had a great rookie year and then and in a
- 55:36down sophomore year and I I feel like is.
- 55:42This his. 3rd year yeah, this so so he's got this year and one
- 55:46more year guaranteed, right? His working contractor usually
- 55:49four year guarantees, right? Plus his fifth year option if
- 55:53they choose to. CJ Stroud feet pics.
- 56:00Oh, sorry, that was all that. They're good ones.
- 56:02He's got good ones. He's got to make money somehow
- 56:05while he's on his rookie deal. Come on.
- 56:07Yeah, it's too early, man. Yeah, $36 million fully
- 56:10guaranteed. You have to make money somehow.
- 56:15Yeah, 4 full, 4 fully guaranteed years.
- 56:18Yeah, I think it's too early itself.
- 56:20I I think that we won't know until the end of this season.
- 56:24Actually, I don't think it takes 4 full years to know, but I
- 56:27think it takes 3 full years to know and I'm starting real
- 56:30quick. If some of these quarterbacks
- 56:32were put on the Browns, would that still make them a franchise
- 56:36quarterback? Or does the organization, if
- 56:39it's too toxic or something, have a way of reversing that?
- 56:43Meaning how much of it is on the quarterback if we had Jared Goff
- 56:49right right now? But that, that's what I'm saying
- 56:51is like, until he leaves and then goes to another team for
- 56:56three years now we're like, oh, OK, this guy got it.
- 57:01Daniel Jones. OK, So like, I wonder.
- 57:04Yeah, well, I would even say Stafford.
- 57:06I mean, yeah, they didn't win a lot of games, but he was, he was
- 57:09like the Dak Prescott of the 2000s, like putting up solid
- 57:14fantasy numbers and not winning. Yeah, like being very quiet.
- 57:19But I I I wonder how much of that comes down to the
- 57:22organization, because I would even say for CJ Stroud, he's on
- 57:25the Texans. And like, yeah, you did pretty
- 57:28well your rookie season. So did Dak Prescott and Zeke,
- 57:31you know, it's like, Kay, that was your freshman year.
- 57:34We'll see how you do your sophomore year.
- 57:35He had a little bit of a slump and it wasn't terrible.
- 57:38It wasn't great, but now it's like, I mean, this season, I
- 57:41guess we'll see where it takes it.
- 57:42But I I just wonder how many guys are stuck behind the pay
- 57:46wall? How many guys are stuck on a
- 57:48team that is actively holding them back to the point where
- 57:52it's like, dude, if he didn't, if Mayfield didn't go to the
- 57:55Bucks and went to some other team as a backup do we would
- 57:59just have never known he would have been a bust right next to
- 58:02Johnny Manziel except for the, you know, attitude and
- 58:06compulsion. But like I don't.
- 58:07Know if I just. Want her.
- 58:11I mean, no, he's he's still got more time.
- 58:13There's no way he just wasn't going to play again.
- 58:15But I mean, it's real easy to accidentally fall into a
- 58:19situation where it's like, Oh yeah, we thought we were going
- 58:22to have you play, but actually we have this other quarterback
- 58:24playing and then the next season they just don't pick you up.
- 58:27And then you get forgotten about.
- 58:28You get picked up later as an afterthought by another team.
- 58:31And it just has a way of just seeing, you know, these like,
- 58:34like middle of the, I would say less than middle of the road
- 58:36quarterbacks just kind of falling out of these Drew Lock
- 58:39type players. Like you don't even know what he
- 58:40looks like, but he's there. You know, he exists.
- 58:43You know, he's on the roster, but you don't remember where he
- 58:45played in college. You remember when he was
- 58:46drafted, where he's been like, oh, it's this guy that's like
- 58:49here, TJ Yates. I'm just thinking like gay.
- 58:53It's real easy to slip into that category.
- 58:55And I just wonder if that's easy for other teams to to pick out
- 58:59and point out when a an organization is holding the
- 59:03quarterback more than the quarterback himself.
- 59:06See, and just to keep talking about Baker here, his four years
- 59:11in Cleveland, he threw for 14,000 yards, 92 touchdowns, 56
- 59:16picks. That's really good.
- 59:19Over 4 years, that's a what per season is 3 or 3500 yards per
- 59:24season, 23 touchdowns, 14 picks. He had 29 and 30 records.
- 59:29So I, I think as much as the organization can make the
- 59:33quarterback, sometimes your franchise guys are going to
- 59:38persevere through. And that's why Baker was able to
- 59:40keep getting opportunity after opportunity after opportunity.
- 59:43That's why I mean, you look at some of these other guys who
- 59:45were at the Browns for any amount of time, I think like
- 59:48that's where their career goes to die.
- 59:51I mean, look at the All Star, Brandon Whedon.
- 59:53OK, he didn't go anywhere after the Browns.
- 59:55He was also 45, but still, that's not the point.
- 59:59So I, I just, I, I think that as much as you get to blame the
- 1:00:04organization, you also don't get to because a good player is
- 1:00:08doing a shine to look at Christian McCaffrey.
- 1:00:10That Panthers team has been bad, but Christian McCaffrey was
- 1:00:13great. Look at Luke Kuechly on the same
- 1:00:15Panthers team. That defense was bad.
- 1:00:18But yet you were afraid to go up against Luke Keakley
- 1:00:21specifically. He was playing for all 11
- 1:00:23players, and it can be said that way by every organization.
- 1:00:26So even when Dallas was bad in the Jason Garrett years, you
- 1:00:31still knew that Tony Romo and Dez Bryant were going to go for
- 1:00:35250 yards a game at any given point.
- 1:00:39So it was just one of those things that that the franchise
- 1:00:43players, not just quarterbacks players are going to shine
- 1:00:46through. Now, it has not been the case so
- 1:00:48far this year with the Bengals. I would, I would truly expect
- 1:00:52Jamar Chase's production to maintain because if you're the
- 1:00:56true one then and you're the true franchise player and, and,
- 1:01:00and Jamar Chase is that guy, I would expect more production out
- 1:01:03of him. But but that's not the case.
- 1:01:06And so I don't know, I, I digress so far, I'm talking
- 1:01:09about the Browns, Bengals and Red Panthers at this point, and
- 1:01:13nobody wants to talk about them. All right, next quarterback.
- 1:01:16All right, so this is our last one and then we'll wrap up.
- 1:01:19So this quarterback is in his sixth year in the league.
- 1:01:22He has a 59% win percentage. He has made the playoffs one
- 1:01:26time and he has not won a playoff game.
- 1:01:30Yeah, Trevor. It is not.
- 1:01:33Trevor Oh bro. No, no, what the hell?
- 1:01:36He's been this 1-6 years, one playoff appearance, no wins.
- 1:01:42I can give you a hint if you want.
- 1:01:44No. It's Baker.
- 1:01:48No, it's not, Baker. Is it Herbert?
- 1:01:52It is not Oh. OK, I don't know, you may hint.
- 1:01:56It is Tua. That's a great hint, Joel.
- 1:01:58That is a great hint. That's a great one.
- 1:02:02Is it tua? Yeah, it is, Tua.
- 1:02:07I actually wasn't really listening when you said give me
- 1:02:08a hint and I just thought you said just tell us.
- 1:02:11So yeah. I don't listen either.
- 1:02:14It's fine. I don't blame me at all.
- 1:02:17So if I was to have given you a hint, the hint would have been
- 1:02:21he's actually his team has made the playoffs twice, but he was
- 1:02:24not available for one of those playoff games which I feel like
- 1:02:28would have given it away so. Not to me.
- 1:02:34So do you guys think Tua is a franchise quarterback or no?
- 1:02:36So I think Tua is a special case because he's left-handed and he
- 1:02:39sucks. Those two are not separate.
- 1:02:41Those two are together. So no, no, I, I think his
- 1:02:46injuries keep him from that category.
- 1:02:49He's not, he's not available. And you'll see you, you'll hear
- 1:02:52the old time we coaches say the best ability is availability.
- 1:02:57And if you're not available to to be there for your team
- 1:03:00because of injury or what, what not or too many, too many
- 1:03:03concussions, you're just you're you can't be a franchise.
- 1:03:07Yeah, you're always hurt. So how would a borough fit into
- 1:03:12this? What would be the difference as
- 1:03:15on one hand is one of them just a bad line and the other one is
- 1:03:19a guy that's more injury prone? Or is it just what they've been
- 1:03:23able to do despite the injuries, that gives you at least a
- 1:03:26glimmer of hope of what they could do if they didn't have it?
- 1:03:30I think you hit it right there. I think you're right.
- 1:03:32Is that that what you're able to do while you're on the field?
- 1:03:35Because the even looking at this year and the short four games
- 1:03:39we've had of of two this year, they we'll call it 3 1/2 games.
- 1:03:44They have an All Star offense, but they just can't seem to do
- 1:03:48anything. And so you put, I mean, you put
- 1:03:51Burrow or any other of these, these, if you put Josh Allen on
- 1:03:54that bank or the Dolphins team right now, that team is going to
- 1:03:58be like Tyrick Hill is running go routes every single play and
- 1:04:03Josh Allen's throwing 90 yard touchdown bombs just every
- 1:04:06single time. So I don't know.
- 1:04:08It's it's a bit shocking with the same coach, same quarterback
- 1:04:12in a system for so long that it's not working, which
- 1:04:16somebody's got to be the problem.
- 1:04:20Yeah. All right.
- 1:04:21So we'll, we'll wrap it up with this.
- 1:04:24Avery, what is after all that conversation, what is a
- 1:04:27franchise quarterback? Franchise quarterback is someone
- 1:04:32consistent and dependable that you can rely on to deliver.
- 1:04:35I wouldn't say they have to be anything supernatural, just
- 1:04:38solid and dependable and someone that the coaches and teammates
- 1:04:43can trust all. Right, I agree.
- 1:04:47All right, so that's all we have time for on today's episode.
- 1:04:50Next week, I don't know what we're talking about, so stay
- 1:04:53tuned for something. I don't know, but we'll figure
- 1:04:55it out and we'll be back next week.
- 1:04:58And as always, don't forget to keep your balls played with.
- 1:05:01We'll see you next time. Bang out y'all.
- 1:05:04Go Bucks. Also, Mark Davis's haircut still
- 1:05:06sucks.
