- 0:04Speaker 1: Recket recket for come.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome into the Vikings Tailgate, brought to you
- 0:17Speaker 1: by Ticketmaster. I'm your host, Siaminson, and Hey, it's Thanksgiving,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and we are thankful for all of you listening to
- 0:23Speaker 1: the show all year. We've loved the episodes we've done,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and since four of the teams we've played already this
- 0:28Speaker 1: year are playing today, we thought we would give you
- 0:32Speaker 1: a little best of talking about each of those teams
- 0:36Speaker 1: on today's show. That means we're gonna start with the Lions.
- 0:40Speaker 1: They've been on Thanksgiving forever, just like Zach Martina has
- 0:43Speaker 1: been on this show forever. Here's Zach and I talking
- 0:47Speaker 1: about the curse of Bobby Lane and the growing cockiness
- 0:52Speaker 1: of Lions fans, ladies and gentlemen. The great Zach Martina
- 0:56Speaker 1: and Zach, I need to start with something we touched.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think the first time you were ever on the show.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I saw this article and it was talking about all
- 1:05Speaker 1: the weirdest stuff that's ever happened in Detroit and with
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Lions, and on and on and on, and one
- 1:11Speaker 1: of the things in there, it's the Bobby Lane curse.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, In nineteen fifty eight, the Lions trade.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Bobby Lane to Pittsburgh.
- 1:19Speaker 1: To Pittsburgh, and he's a star, right he is.
- 1:23Speaker 2: He is the Patrick Mahomes of his time.
- 1:26Speaker 1: They trade him and he places a fifty year curse
- 1:30Speaker 1: on the Detroit Lions and it runs nineteen fifty eight.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's supposed to end in two thousand and eight, and.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It was adjusted for inflation. So that's it lasts. It's
- 1:40Speaker 2: gone gone, And what a few years longer than that.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Well, here's what I would say is super interesting. The
- 1:45Speaker 1: last year of the curse, your team went oh and
- 1:48Speaker 1: sixteen and in that fifty years you lost more games
- 1:52Speaker 1: than any team in the entire league. And you end
- 1:56Speaker 1: on an ohen sixteen. Then you got Stafford yep, and
- 1:59Speaker 1: now you're moving forward and now out of the It's
- 2:02Speaker 1: almost like it's real. How real is it to Detroit fans?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Because you went there, then you got Stafford, you kind
- 2:07Speaker 1: of got out of it a little bit. Stafford led
- 2:09Speaker 1: to golf with led to all these changes. Dan, here
- 2:13Speaker 1: we go and now you are a multi year championship
- 2:17Speaker 1: contending team that people are picking at the beginning of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the season. Do you buy this? Are you all in
- 2:24Speaker 1: on the Bobby Lane curse. And now that it's over,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you're off and running.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I would be hard pressed to find a Detroit Lions
- 2:31Speaker 2: fan that does not believe in the Bobby Lane curse.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Because we needed a reason. We needed a reason that
- 2:36Speaker 2: we were like, okay, well this is this can't be
- 2:39Speaker 2: just the organization. This can't just be our team is
- 2:42Speaker 2: it's it's in the universe, it's intergalactic, it's whatever words
- 2:47Speaker 2: you want to use. But it was at least a
- 2:49Speaker 2: reason we could say, well, yeah, but you know, we've
- 2:51Speaker 2: got this, Like I mean, Calvin Johnson was on the
- 2:53Speaker 2: team before Matthew Stafford, and he was part of that
- 2:56Speaker 2: oh and sixteen team. To be part of a fifty
- 3:01Speaker 2: year stretch where you are losing more games than any
- 3:03Speaker 2: other team in the franchise, you have to have a
- 3:05Speaker 2: reason because it doesn't make sense when you have players
- 3:09Speaker 2: of that caliber.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So now that you're this new team and my team
- 3:14Speaker 1: is coming off, you know, from a fan standpoint, one
- 3:18Speaker 1: of the more difficult losses in the Kevin O'Connell era, right,
- 3:24Speaker 1: And I think that just that sentence speaks to how
- 3:28Speaker 1: impressive the coaching staff has been. I always use the
- 3:31Speaker 1: example you can use a ton of them, but winning
- 3:33Speaker 1: a game with Josh Dobbs calling the plays into the
- 3:37Speaker 1: headset in Atlanta, like this team has finally arrived in
- 3:41Speaker 1: the place where it felt like adversity steam rolled them
- 3:45Speaker 1: against the Chargers, and we're not quite where we expected
- 3:49Speaker 1: we would be. Is there any is there any part
- 3:52Speaker 1: of your little fan brain that feels that you might
- 3:57Speaker 1: be vulnerable to a desperate team coming in and punching
- 4:01Speaker 1: you in the face.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Let me, let me go ahead and show you how
- 4:05Speaker 2: little my fan brain is. I'm not going to take
- 4:07Speaker 2: your bait. I'm not going to take your bait of
- 4:09Speaker 2: insulting me and coming at me saying I have a
- 4:11Speaker 2: little brain. I have a size eight head, all right.
- 4:15Speaker 2: When I played football in high school, they had do
- 4:17Speaker 2: special order a helmet. All right, When you knock on
- 4:19Speaker 2: this skull, it is not hollow. It's not little SI,
- 4:22Speaker 2: thank you, and I it is not. It is a
- 4:24Speaker 2: big brain. It is a big old brain. But I
- 4:28Speaker 2: don't I'm I mean, I'm always nervous because I've been
- 4:31Speaker 2: hurt in the past, but I feel really good coming
- 4:34Speaker 2: off of the bye. I feel really good coming off
- 4:36Speaker 2: of the bye. Who you'll come into at a home game.
- 4:40Speaker 2: No less, you know what, I'm just realizing.
- 4:43Speaker 1: In the history of you being on the show. The
- 4:46Speaker 1: first season, we were very good with Kirk and you
- 4:49Speaker 1: were having that season where you beat Green Bay at
- 4:51Speaker 1: the end of the year and you were like turning around.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You had the major season before the season. Second season,
- 4:56Speaker 1: you had a really great year. We didn't have a
- 4:58Speaker 1: reason to feel bad because we had a quarter back
- 5:00Speaker 1: situation that we were battling through. Third year, we're both great.
- 5:05Speaker 1: We play each other. It sucks that we lost to
- 5:06Speaker 1: you at the end of the season, but we're both great.
- 5:08Speaker 1: We're both feeling good. This is the first year that
- 5:11Speaker 1: there's some angst in this conversation between you and I.
- 5:15Speaker 1: This is the first year where you're still doing well
- 5:17Speaker 1: and we're not doing the things we want to be doing.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I gotta tell you, I hate it.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I buddy, I'll tell you the angst is all on
- 5:25Speaker 2: one side.
- 5:25Speaker 3: All right.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I understand you have.
- 5:28Speaker 1: An ad I've never noticed the attitude and tell my
- 5:32Speaker 1: team is not where I need it. It's only fitting.
- 5:36Speaker 1: If we're going to talk Lions, we should probably talk
- 5:39Speaker 1: about their opponents, the Packers. Uh, let's do a clip
- 5:42Speaker 1: of Chad and I discussing one of our most memorable
- 5:45Speaker 1: moments from our friendship from being on stage together. This
- 5:49Speaker 1: is the time Chad and I spent a weekend in
- 5:53Speaker 1: Appleton right before Brett Favre's first game against the Packers
- 5:57Speaker 1: as a Viking. I'm your host, Siam and sinceitting across
- 6:00Speaker 1: from me as a guy who criticizes my intro every
- 6:04Speaker 1: week with his little smirk. Ladies and gentlemen, the co host,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Chad Daniels, Hello, everybody. I don't know what's happening, but
- 6:14Speaker 1: the amount of trash talk early and often from Packer
- 6:19Speaker 1: fans is hitting me at a aggressive level.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Sure, I'm just gonna throw this out there. I believe
- 6:27Speaker 3: that the Packers and the Eagles should get all their
- 6:29Speaker 3: primetime games taken for the next seven years because that
- 6:33Speaker 3: was the worst game of football I've ever seen.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Here's the thing, man, Like I am a little riled
- 6:37Speaker 1: up because like I don't really have the AMMO to
- 6:39Speaker 1: go back right. You know, you can't quite go back
- 6:43Speaker 1: as hard so what I've been doing, and I want
- 6:45Speaker 1: you to tell me what you think about this. I'm
- 6:47Speaker 1: not engaging at all. I'm only I'm not silent treating.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, silent treating.
- 6:52Speaker 1: No, not quite. They trash talk me. If any of
- 6:55Speaker 1: the Packer fans trash talk me, I just send them
- 6:58Speaker 1: back a fact about their state that I think is absurd,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and then I no matter what they say after that,
- 7:05Speaker 1: then they get silent treatment. For example, somebody said some
- 7:09Speaker 1: really negative things to me, some heavy duty trash talk,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and all I wrote back was Wisconsin once had two
- 7:16Speaker 1: local towns argue over who would get a thirty foot
- 7:19Speaker 1: tall fiberglass badger statue. So a Milwaukee resident legally changed
- 7:26Speaker 1: his name to Count Justinian de mort wore a cape daily,
- 7:32Speaker 1: slept in a coffin shaped bed, and petitioned the mayor
- 7:35Speaker 1: to declare his birthday Vampire Appreciation Day. And I'd still
- 7:40Speaker 1: rather hang with him than talk football with you. That's
- 7:44Speaker 1: the sort of stuff that I'm sending back.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Well, that's a smart way to do it. I mean,
- 7:48Speaker 3: there are a lot of those. I've been to Wisconsin
- 7:50Speaker 3: several times, so have you to perform live stand up comedy.
- 7:54Speaker 1: That's actually the origin of our friendship. Know, I don't
- 7:57Speaker 1: know how many people know that our friendship the birth birth,
- 8:01Speaker 1: but I think the growth of.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Our flourishing when it flourished.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You want to tell it, you want to tell the people.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Well, we were in Appleton, Wisconsin, which is just south
- 8:10Speaker 3: of Green Bay, and we were working at the Skyline
- 8:12Speaker 3: Comedy Cafe.
- 8:14Speaker 1: And what year do we think this is? Back in
- 8:17Speaker 1: twenty Well it was the far of year. What year
- 8:20Speaker 1: was far two thousand and nine?
- 8:22Speaker 3: Okay, so we're there and we're doing We used to
- 8:25Speaker 3: do this decathlon thing where we would do ten events
- 8:28Speaker 3: that were somewhat athletic. Right, it was like wiffleball, home run,
- 8:32Speaker 3: derby point contest. Yeah, just stuff like that that wasn't
- 8:37Speaker 3: the actual game game, but it was derivative of it.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So we would do that and then on the and
- 8:43Speaker 3: then we were playing cribbage.
- 8:44Speaker 1: That's funny how the athleticism started with the athletics and
- 8:49Speaker 1: whittled down to let's play cards and move toothpicks.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Well toward towards the end of the week, you don't
- 8:55Speaker 3: have access, right, You can't like quick run to the
- 8:58Speaker 3: ry YMCA. What you can do is, right before a
- 9:03Speaker 3: set is you can put on a Vikings Brett Favre
- 9:06Speaker 3: Jersey like you did. And then I heard you get introduced,
- 9:11Speaker 3: and then I heard just thick booing without you having
- 9:15Speaker 3: said anything.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It was right before the first game that Brett Fav
- 9:19Speaker 1: played the Packers as a Viking. Was the It was
- 9:22Speaker 1: the Saturday night before that was going to happen, I
- 9:25Speaker 1: think on a Monday.
- 9:26Speaker 3: And the people were I'm gonna go with less than
- 9:29Speaker 3: pleased yeah, And so that's when I thought to myself, like, yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 3: I think that he and I have a pretty similar brain.
- 9:38Speaker 1: So I went up on stage. Cliff, who ran the club,
- 9:42Speaker 1: pulled the lights up because and I quote he was
- 9:45Speaker 1: pretty sure somebody was going to throw a glass at
- 9:47Speaker 1: me because I was doing the Hulk Hogan like bump
- 9:51Speaker 1: up up, like hand to the ear motion, over and over.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And then you ran to the booth and as I
- 9:59Speaker 1: was going up, played the Monday night football theme music.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's the one thing that I remember. And here we
- 10:05Speaker 1: are years later with the team letting us be involved, which.
- 10:10Speaker 3: That's right, and our friendship barely hanging on.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Jay the producer just said that people through pool balls
- 10:18Speaker 1: on the field at players during that game. When Farv
- 10:21Speaker 1: went back there for the first time and had signs
- 10:24Speaker 1: comparing Farv to Fredo from The Godfather.
- 10:28Speaker 3: So I knew it was you. I knew it was you.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I didn't get the pool balls, but you could. You know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you could feel that that would probably be the reaction
- 10:37Speaker 1: in that room night, because I believe Appleton is where
- 10:39Speaker 1: the opposing teams stay, so Appleton they're not just pack Evans.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I think they feel like they're really a part of it.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, because I went to a Vike's Packer game Lambeau
- 10:52Speaker 3: and Brett Farav was still the quarterback, Dante Culpepper was
- 10:55Speaker 3: for US. Dante Culpepper was getting murdered. I'm saying, right up, murdered.
- 11:02Speaker 3: So I start freaking out. I'm screaming down the field
- 11:06Speaker 3: and the section around me right just a couple rows
- 11:09Speaker 3: started chanting all before I know it, within the minute,
- 11:15Speaker 3: the entire stadium. Here's the crazy thing about this stadium.
- 11:19Speaker 3: They don't have to have witnessed what happened. They just
- 11:23Speaker 3: know if somebody sends out the bat signal, we have
- 11:26Speaker 3: to join in. And so this entire stadium was chanting that.
- 11:32Speaker 3: And then we were at the bar afterwards back in Appleton,
- 11:35Speaker 3: because we were staying at the same hotel that the
- 11:37Speaker 3: Vikes were staying at, and we're at the bar right
- 11:40Speaker 3: next door and then this Packer fan comes in. He goes,
- 11:44Speaker 3: oh man, somebody, somebody from Minnesota really got it tonight,
- 11:48Speaker 3: because everybody was chanting. And my buddy goes, he's right here,
- 11:51Speaker 3: this guy. And I really didn't even do anything to
- 11:54Speaker 3: deserve it other than yelling, because remember when Farv and
- 11:57Speaker 3: even even Rogers that whole thing. The Packers got a
- 12:01Speaker 3: lot of calls. They were the chiefs. Yeah, they were
- 12:03Speaker 3: the chiefs of the early two thousands, so it was tough.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think that's a great place to take to break.
- 12:10Speaker 1: We will be right back with more Tailgate after this.

- 12:49Speaker 1: to the Vikings tailgate once again. I'm your host, Simonson.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We're doing a little best of on Thanksgiving here. The
- 12:56Speaker 1: other two teams that we've discussed the season that are
- 12:58Speaker 1: playing today are the Ravens and Bengals. I live in
- 13:02Speaker 1: Bengals Country, and earlier this year, Chad and I broke
- 13:05Speaker 1: down the tortured nature of the Bengals franchise. The Cincinnati
- 13:11Speaker 1: Bengals are coming to town and joining me to talk
- 13:14Speaker 1: everything about the city and the team. Is the one,
- 13:18Speaker 1: the only Chad Daniels.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Hi, everybody, BurrH. I'm excited. I'm gonna tell you something.
- 13:25Speaker 3: I'm excited for the game, and I'm excited that we
- 13:28Speaker 3: don't recap games on this podcast.
- 13:31Speaker 1: What a wonderful thing for us that we're always looking forward?
- 13:35Speaker 3: We got it, Hey, brother, There's a reason that the
- 13:38Speaker 3: windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. You feel me.
- 13:41Speaker 3: We gotta look forward. That's what we do.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Here on I love that. Actually, I mean, I know
- 13:45Speaker 1: you did it in the hillbilly voice, but I love it. Normally,
- 13:49Speaker 1: normally we do the thing where we kind of dive
- 13:51Speaker 1: into both sides of what we like and dislike about it.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But I tell you, I live in Cincinnati. We love
- 13:57Speaker 1: the city, we love the comedy there, and because they're
- 14:00Speaker 1: team is a tortured like they I identify with them
- 14:05Speaker 1: as it. There's not many organizations that you can really
- 14:08Speaker 1: look at them and go, man, you just you've got
- 14:10Speaker 1: that same Charlie Brown vibe getting the football pulled out
- 14:14Speaker 1: from you in the fan base. So I like, yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a hard time saying anything negative about
- 14:20Speaker 1: the Bengals or their fans.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Well, it's interesting because when you're a Vikings fan, you go,
- 14:27Speaker 3: you know, what, this happened. Bad things happen to us,
- 14:31Speaker 3: and then when we watch the Bengals, we go, they
- 14:33Speaker 3: did it to themselves. It's a different attitude for the
- 14:36Speaker 3: same situation. My girlfriend said, we have a lot of
- 14:40Speaker 3: friends in Cincinnati, how do you cheer for And you go,
- 14:43Speaker 3: I'm not going to listen to that, No, because we
- 14:45Speaker 3: cheer just as hard and we make fun of them
- 14:47Speaker 3: just as hard when we beat them.
- 14:48Speaker 1: That's absolutely correct. The U there is a really like
- 14:53Speaker 1: when I first moved here and you start meeting a
- 14:55Speaker 1: lot of Bengals fans, one of the first things you
- 14:57Speaker 1: learn is that they were one of if not the
- 15:00Speaker 1: but one of the last teams in the NFL to
- 15:03Speaker 1: get an actual website. And the standard joke and it's
- 15:07Speaker 1: a dad joke, but it, dude, it rocks. Everybody goes yes,
- 15:12Speaker 1: because we had a hard time string in three w's together.
- 15:15Speaker 1: God dang, that's a good.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Oh, that is a really good joke. I think it
- 15:19Speaker 3: is actually because it's harder to type on a keyboard
- 15:23Speaker 3: when you have blisters from playing the banjo. They're so
- 15:26Speaker 3: close to Kentucky. The airport is in Kentucky. They call
- 15:31Speaker 3: it Cincinnati, and it's in a different.
- 15:33Speaker 1: State when you're down here, like when we move down
- 15:38Speaker 1: here as a Viking fan, the Cleveland rivalry, it's very
- 15:43Speaker 1: Green Bay ish. Yeah, there's this all time moment in
- 15:46Speaker 1: Bengals history. It's like nineteen eighty nine. I think they're
- 15:50Speaker 1: playing the Seattle Seahawks and an official made of call
- 15:54Speaker 1: that the fans did not care for. And the fans
- 15:57Speaker 1: it's December, so they start balling up snowballs and heaving
- 16:02Speaker 1: them onto the field, and the Seahawks are like, we're
- 16:05Speaker 1: not playing with you throwing stuff at it, so they
- 16:07Speaker 1: will and the officials have to pause the game. And
- 16:11Speaker 1: I love the moments when when a coach when they
- 16:14Speaker 1: have to hand him the PA system and be like, coach,
- 16:18Speaker 1: can you please get a hold of these people? It's
- 16:21Speaker 1: so good. So they hand the coach at the time,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Sam Whitch, He gets the microphone and to the whole stadium.
- 16:28Speaker 1: He goes, will the next person that sees anybody throw
- 16:32Speaker 1: anything onto the field point them out and get them
- 16:35Speaker 1: out of here. You don't live in Cleveland, you live
- 16:38Speaker 1: in Cincinnati. Imagine just being in like Grand Rapids, Like
- 16:44Speaker 1: it's yeah, you guys are pretty much it's very similar.
- 16:47Speaker 1: But yeah, that's an all time moment.
- 16:49Speaker 3: That is like a dad just going like, hey, you're
- 16:52Speaker 3: acting like your brother right now, knock it off.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And I do feel that against the state of Wisconsin,
- 16:58Speaker 1: and I don't. It's so funny because when you cut
- 17:01Speaker 1: the top half of both states off, you could just
- 17:04Speaker 1: drive across them and it's nearly indistinguishable.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I've always said without professional football, it's the same.
- 17:11Speaker 1: State pretty similar. I think there's a cholesterol difference due
- 17:15Speaker 1: to a cheese product. Like somehow we were like our
- 17:18Speaker 1: state was like, we'll make milk, you make cheese. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: don't know how we decided that, but there's certainly a
- 17:27Speaker 1: heart clog issue there.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I think we were like, hey, come get all moldy milk. Yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 3: you can have our moldy milk.
- 17:34Speaker 1: The Bengals opponent today is going to be the Baltimore Ravens,
- 17:39Speaker 1: And of course, when we talked Ravens earlier this season,
- 17:42Speaker 1: we talked about one of the craziest finishes in Vikings history.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Listen to Chad and I break it down here, let's
- 17:50Speaker 1: shift to the Ravens. You know, we do a little
- 17:52Speaker 1: bit of history on this show, and this matchup also
- 17:56Speaker 1: has one of my in addition to a crazy weird
- 17:59Speaker 1: stat one of my favorite history moments. I was at
- 18:02Speaker 1: Hilarities in Cleveland, sure for a week of shows, the
- 18:06Speaker 1: Great Hilarities opening for the Great Jake Johansson's this pretty
- 18:09Speaker 1: early in my career, huh. And I sat at a
- 18:13Speaker 1: bar all by myself and watched the twenty thirteen Ravens
- 18:18Speaker 1: Vikings game and if you recall, we lost it. But
- 18:20Speaker 1: that was that absurd game where there was such horrible
- 18:25Speaker 1: snow that the field crew had to plow the field
- 18:29Speaker 1: at halftime, and in the last two minutes of that game,
- 18:34Speaker 1: everything goes nuts. Two minutes and seven seconds left, Dennis
- 18:38Speaker 1: Pitta scores a touchdown. The Ravens take the lead. Then
- 18:42Speaker 1: Boom Vikings get the ball back. Two plays later, blast
- 18:46Speaker 1: from the pass Toby Gerhardt Toby Gearhart forty one yards
- 18:52Speaker 1: for a touchdown. Ravens get the ball back, run the
- 18:55Speaker 1: kickoff back for a touchdown. They retake the lead. Then
- 18:59Speaker 1: Corderioatterson scores on a seventy nine yard touchdown pass for
- 19:03Speaker 1: the Vikings. They take the lead, and then Marlon Brown
- 19:06Speaker 1: scores on a nine yard touchdown with only nine seconds left.
- 19:09Speaker 1: The Ravens win. I haven't seen every football game in
- 19:12Speaker 1: the history of football. I don't have that rolodex like
- 19:15Speaker 1: our friend Alex Schubert, but that has to be about
- 19:18Speaker 1: the craziest two minutes in the history of professional football.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And it was in the snow. Guys were sliding, guys
- 19:23Speaker 1: were diving.
- 19:24Speaker 3: That's what made those plays possible is that in the snow,
- 19:27Speaker 3: once you get going forward, it is so hard because
- 19:31Speaker 3: nobody can catch you because everybody's trying to cut and
- 19:34Speaker 3: make up ground on you. Now you say this is
- 19:36Speaker 3: the greatest professional game, probably in the snow. I'm gonna
- 19:39Speaker 3: throw one little amateur at you nineteen ninety one Cleveland
- 19:44Speaker 3: Elementary School field. I remember a Fritz Skinner going to
- 19:48Speaker 3: Sam Skinner for ninety nine yard touchdown, and then I
- 19:51Speaker 3: remember immediately Eric Johnson throwing a bomb to excuse me,
- 19:55Speaker 3: but yours truly in the snow, high stepping in my
- 19:59Speaker 3: sore l boots for the touchdown for the win.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Now, I'm not saying it was the greatest professional snow
- 20:04Speaker 1: game of all time. I think people get really mad
- 20:06Speaker 1: at me for that. It's in the conversation for craziest
- 20:10Speaker 1: two minutes.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, crazy is two minutes snow doubt.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Can we just take a pause since he came up
- 20:15Speaker 1: in this memory for me and talk about Cordero Patterson
- 20:19Speaker 1: that game, he gets five receptions, one hundred and forty
- 20:21Speaker 1: one yards and a touchdown. I was thinking about him
- 20:25Speaker 1: the other day. I think it was tough to come
- 20:28Speaker 1: to our team, a team that we were the team
- 20:32Speaker 1: of a mad Rashad and the team of Chris Carter
- 20:35Speaker 1: and the team of Randy Moss. So you think of
- 20:37Speaker 1: wide receivers in a very specific way. And he came
- 20:40Speaker 1: into the league and not only was he not that
- 20:44Speaker 1: type of guy, but he was so before his time
- 20:47Speaker 1: in terms of positionless football. I mean, he goes on,
- 20:50Speaker 1: he sets the NFL record for kick returns. Right, he's
- 20:53Speaker 1: like a four time All Pro. He wins, he goes
- 20:55Speaker 1: and he wins a Super Bowl with Bill Belichick, and
- 20:59Speaker 1: you can't be done and play for Bill Belichick.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Right of course.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And then he has this amazing second act to his
- 21:05Speaker 1: career where he gets to Atlanta and they go, you're
- 21:08Speaker 1: a running back and then everybody goes, oh, man, he's
- 21:10Speaker 1: so good at running back.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:13Speaker 1: In retrospect, he's probably the most underdiscussed unique vite. Him
- 21:18Speaker 1: and Percy Harvin are kind of like the great what
- 21:23Speaker 1: ifs for me if they'd have been in a different
- 21:25Speaker 1: time period or gotten to do what they did late
- 21:28Speaker 1: Early Patterson.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Is the faith no More of football, right, faith no more?
- 21:33Speaker 3: What is it? It's it. They were Limp Biscuit before
- 21:39Speaker 3: Limp Biscuit, but nobody knew where to put them, and
- 21:41Speaker 3: so they didn't get the notoriety that they should have gotten.
- 21:44Speaker 3: And then Limp Biscuit goes on with Fred Durst to
- 21:47Speaker 3: like smash its and you're like, from my generation, you go,
- 21:51Speaker 3: this is a faith no more ripoff. And so that's
- 21:54Speaker 3: the same way I feel about Patterson. Sometimes people get
- 21:58Speaker 3: to the level they want to get to just a
- 22:01Speaker 3: little bit too early, and nobody knows where to put them.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Imagine, yeah, that's a great point. Imagine if Cordero Patterson,
- 22:09Speaker 1: if you handed him to Kyle Shanahan the same year
- 22:13Speaker 1: that Kyle Shanahan got Deebo Samuel. Sure, you're like, oh,
- 22:18Speaker 1: a giant Deebo Samuel. Mm hmmm, huge Cordero heads on
- 22:22Speaker 1: this show. Chat. That's going to do it for us
- 22:25Speaker 1: this week. Thank you to all of you for listening
- 22:28Speaker 1: each and every week, and thank you to ticket Master,
- 22:30Speaker 1: the official ticket marketplace of the Minnesota Vikings, for up
- 22:33Speaker 1: making the show happen. Enjoy the games, and Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
