- 0:00And welcome, Welcome, Welcome. It's time now for one on one with
- 0:03the pro, but it's actually two on one, but it's okay. We're
- 0:06having fun today. Bartlesville Health and Rehab Community is with us today and we
- 0:12have Jesse Cross and Aubrey Myers in with this, and first of all,
- 0:15welcome, thank you. All right, it's good to be indoors today.
- 0:19I mean, I'm just taking a look out there. It's looking kind of
- 0:22ominous, but wow. We have been talking with all sorts of folks from
- 0:29Bartlesville Health and Rehab and every time it comes back to a common denominator.
- 0:34It's kind of like one big family, right, yes, And not only
- 0:38does Alex and his family work there, but you and you and your families
- 0:43work there too. We're going to start out there with with Jesse. You're
- 0:47the dietary manager. You have family that works besides you, right I do.
- 0:52My mother, Marcy Freed, is the business manager, uh huh,
- 0:55and my wife is the administrative assistant. So there you go. And then
- 0:59with Aubrey, you've got like three generations going on there, which got Yes,
- 1:03my mom Kristin Ryan does the social services and then my grandma Irma White
- 1:10does medical records. Wow, so you've been kind of growing up in the
- 1:14building, haven't you. Yes, my mom's been there for I think fourteen
- 1:18or fifteen years. Oh, so I've kind of been around the building since
- 1:22I was about eleven, grew up there, worked in the kitchen in high
- 1:26school. When we moved back here, I started nursing school and went to
- 1:32CNA class. So I've been here for a long time, on and off,
- 1:37but been around a long time now, Jesse. When it comes to
- 1:41the food, everybody says, well, you know, when you cook at
- 1:44a big place, it's not the same as maybe as a restaurant. But
- 1:47I've been told differently. I've been told it tastes everything as good, is
- 1:51as right there at home to maybe someplace you'd order out. Well, I
- 1:55hope that's what you're hearing. It is right. I'm here, and I
- 1:57would be telling fifth put me in jail if I told, well, we've
- 2:01really been trying to get back to the home style cooking, less processed foods.
- 2:06We changed up our specials a lot. We've got daily breakfast specials now
- 2:12and we do a monthly cookout from April to October. Family members are welcome
- 2:15to come out and join join their family that's in the facility, and we
- 2:21have music and beverages and it's just a good time for everybody. Now I
- 2:23understand that patio. It's kind of lit to itself with those cookouts. It
- 2:28has a nice edition. Huh, it's a fabulous edition. Oh wow,
- 2:30how long you been there? I've been there for about two years. I
- 2:36started out as a CNA. I went to maintenance, and then i went
- 2:39to dietary, and so I've worked about every department that's available. My goodness
- 2:45sakes, you got the whole round experience there. Yes, yes, I
- 2:50do. Well, this is great. So nobody's really a stranger there,
- 2:53robbery, No, No, definitely not. I think everybody that comes into
- 2:58somebody that's there, and you know, we're all just work together as one
- 3:01big family and welcome everybody in. So now, how does that help with
- 3:06the care of the people coming in? Do they feel like they've kind of
- 3:08been welcomed in to a family of sorts. Yeah, it's got to be
- 3:13important. Yes, I would say so. A lot of our residents see
- 3:16all of us as their family. I mean, that's their home, so
- 3:21we try to make it as a much of a home atmosphere as we can
- 3:24and treat them as we would treat our family members. Now we've got something
- 3:30here that you mentioned that you wanted to talk about about memory care, and
- 3:32that's something that concerns a lot of people at probably age fifty five and up,
- 3:38because you start realizing that your hard drive is just a little too full.
- 3:43That's what it is. Yeah, you're just so full of information.
- 3:46Sometimes it takes a while to find it. But we also know that memory
- 3:50care is something that advances as aged does. Yeah. Yeah, I'm actually
- 3:55very excited about our memory care unit. It should be we opened it up.
- 4:00I think middle of May is when we actually close through the doors.
- 4:02It's a secure unit, so anybody that just has a diagnosis of dementia or
- 4:12anything like that, Alzheimer's, it's just more of a more of a less
- 4:18stimulating atmosphere. So when you come in our building, you know, all
- 4:23of our other residents have the alexa's going and have music playing, and it
- 4:28can be a little bit on the louder side. So that is just more
- 4:31of a quieter area for those people you distractions. Yes, yes, it's
- 4:36easier for them keep focused on less anxiety inducing so yeah, you know,
- 4:44because if you get too much going on all of a sudden, your mind
- 4:47just says, everything's just got to settle down now. And I understand where
- 4:51that's coming from, and I can only imagine what that would be like if
- 4:55you really needed that kind of care. Yeah, it's a very calmon environment.
- 4:59I've I've seen. I've seen a lot of good things come out of
- 5:02it so far, and it's only been open about a month. So now
- 5:05I understand, getting back to the food aspect here, that sometimes this becomes
- 5:12like a social atmosphere too for the not only the staff, but of course
- 5:17the residents too. Tell us a little bit about what goes on around meals
- 5:20there besides the normal chatter. Well, you know, we have open dining
- 5:26from seven am to seven pm, which is great, so we have in
- 5:30always available menu. Residents don't have to order during what you would consider a
- 5:34traditional meal time the sugar at any time. We do have a lot of
- 5:38residents that join us in the dining room and there's a lot of socializing that
- 5:42that goes on. It gets pretty loud during meal times. But in the
- 5:46memory care unit they also have a dining room, so they still get that
- 5:48social environment during meal times down there, and they get the always available menu
- 5:55or the special they still get to choose down there in the memory care units,
- 5:58just delivered to them. You know something that's something that Alex Doubt told
- 6:01me about that. It's it's we're not going to regiment people to our schedule.
- 6:06We're going to play the years. And that is just right there an
- 6:11example of being very casual about that. Because not everybody wakes up at six
- 6:15o'clock in the morning. Not everybody wants to be bet at seven am.
- 6:19Some people get up that early, some people get up at eight or nine,
- 6:23you know, and it all depends on how your body's working. And
- 6:27he said that he wanted to make sure everything was available for everybody on their
- 6:30own, their own rhythm. Yeah, we really tried to work with whatever
- 6:33schedule they have kept, you know, throughout their all lifehood, and we
- 6:38try to maneuver more towards what they want to do in the day. Like
- 6:43we said, that's their home and we want it to make we want to
- 6:45make it feel like home for them. So you know, if they didn't
- 6:47eat breakfast till ten am and then they didn't need lunch until three and they
- 6:51didn't eat dinner till seven. Well that's we obliged to that. Well that's
- 6:55good because you know, there are folks who probably worked some odd hours during
- 6:58their their life. Maybe is that odd of ours? Is? Maybe you
- 7:01you two have and sometimes let's stick with you and it's like, oh,
- 7:04it's kind of hard to break. I understand that. But getting back to
- 7:09your Bartosvielle Health and Rehab, when people come in, you're a name,
- 7:14you're a person. You're not a number that goes out to New York City
- 7:16or Los Angeles or Chicago or Memphis. It's owned and operated right here with
- 7:23local people, and with local people like yourselves and your families working here side
- 7:28by side with the patients. That's got to give them a level of call.
- 7:31Yeah, I would think so. I mean they come in and we
- 7:34all make it a point to go in and introduce ourselves and let them know
- 7:40kind of what our position is and if they have any concerns, they can
- 7:44ask for us or we'll come down and check on them. I understand you
- 7:46have a couple of pets there. Yes, yes, we have Luna who's
- 7:51a therapy dog, so she stays down in the therapy room and then Alex
- 7:57brings cash. So so everybody, I understand that the pets are very popular
- 8:05with it. Yes, yes, the residents love the pets, but they
- 8:07don't go in the kitchen right now. In the kitchen, no, no,
- 8:11no, no, we do not enter there. But this has got
- 8:16to be kind of fun. I mean, what's it like, though,
- 8:18working with your relatives, because that happens more and more these days. What's
- 8:22it like having family right there with you? For me? I think it
- 8:28makes things easier. That's all the same ways, but it is. It
- 8:31is nice working with family members and other people whose family is there. I
- 8:37think it brings us closer as a team, and it makes it a lot
- 8:43easier to communicate with others because you know, you know them a little bit
- 8:45better. Yeah, same with you. Yeah yeah. Me and my mom
- 8:50actually shared an office for a little while, and we didn't know how that
- 8:52was going to go. But I think it turned out great. But I'm
- 8:56I'm pretty sure it did a little different than the home dynamic when you get
- 8:58into the work, but all the same, it comes out smiles and sparkles.
- 9:03I like that. Now, where can we find you? Where are
- 9:07you located? We are located on thirty four to thirty four Kentucky Place.
- 9:11It is right behind the hospital, so there's the hospital and then there's like
- 9:15the outpatient surgery area, and then right behind there we have like a whole
- 9:18block. Well, you can't miss that. If you miss the hospital,
- 9:22you need you need your eyesight checks, yes, but after that, you
- 9:26know, it's pretty easy to find. And I understand that. You know,
- 9:30we have residents, and we also have our twenty eight day people in
- 9:33there for therapy as well, and the folks who live in the apartment.
- 9:37So that's got to be a pretty good sized complex, right. Oh yeah,
- 9:41so you know, so you got a little bit of everything going on
- 9:43there. You got permanent residents, you got the folks that are you know,
- 9:48kind of aging in place, and then you got the folks who are
- 9:50trying to get repaired to get back home and what have you. I understand
- 9:54that when the folks come in for that twenty eight day period, first of
- 9:56all, they're like, I don't know about it, And about the second
- 10:01week they're going, hey, I kind of like this, and then about
- 10:05day twenty seven and a half, what do you mean it's over? Yeah,
- 10:09So it really is a very friendly very welcoming thing. And I understand
- 10:15that you've got a good Facebook page and that your website's really pretty good too.
- 10:20Yes, we do have a website. I think it's Martos Well healthonrehab
- 10:24dot com. It is, but most of our stuff, I believe,
- 10:26is posted on Facebook. That's where you can see all of our activities and
- 10:30events that we have, So it's a good place to go to post the
- 10:33menu on that. Do you no the only kid? Not yet? We're
- 10:37working. We're working towards getting towards the more towards the media side of getting
- 10:43the menu out and our specials because I know a lot of the folks said
- 10:48there internally are on the Facebookay yes, when nobody is looking, they got
- 10:54the thumbs going there on the phone and everything too. I want to thank
- 10:58you both for being here with us today, alrighty, and tell Alex to
- 11:03send you back one of these days. Alrighty. Folks, you've been listening
- 11:07to our program here and it is one on one with the pros. However
- 11:13today it was two on one and I didn't mind because they're very very nice
- 11:16folks at Bartleswill Health and Recap. Thank you very much. We've got more
- 11:20coming up here in just a moment with Cherokee Chat
