- 2:47Speaker 6: We're want to welcome everyone.
- 2:49Speaker 4: To this press conference in alphabet for apart from Birthday
- 2:52Speaker 4: twenty twenty five, to be taking place on April twenty six,
- 2:57Speaker 4: from ten am to work pm. Before we initiate our
- 3:00Speaker 4: press conference announcement, we want to introduce the Thunderbirds, American
- 3:08Speaker 4: Indian dancers.
- 3:10Speaker 1: All right, that can hear?
- 3:25Speaker 7: That can very much.
- 3:27Speaker 8: They asked me if I woke before we have our
- 3:30Speaker 8: dancing about to just say a few words about birthday,
- 3:34Speaker 8: if you're going to be coming up as your hearth,
- 3:36Speaker 8: I having right under six. I just wanted to say
- 3:39Speaker 8: a few words about the Earth. You know, we don't
- 3:42Speaker 8: think about that very much, but when you.
- 3:45Speaker 7: Think about the Earth. Without the Earth, we would have
- 3:48Speaker 7: nothing at all.
- 3:50Speaker 8: Everything that was mean in our lives comes from the Earth.
- 3:55Speaker 8: Everything that we have to keep ourselves.
- 3:57Speaker 7: Alive something on Earth.
- 3:58Speaker 8: I think it's something we don't about every day, but
- 4:01Speaker 8: it's very very important.
- 4:03Speaker 7: To remember that.
- 4:04Speaker 8: Among the Native American people, we believe that we are
- 4:08Speaker 8: caretakers of the Earth.
- 4:10Speaker 7: We are the ones who are taking care.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Of the hearth.
- 4:14Speaker 7: Sometimes call a mother Earth.
- 4:15Speaker 8: And Mother Yes, and we're here to make sure that
- 4:19Speaker 8: Earth is always have to well.
- 4:22Speaker 7: I think there's something that we have not thought about
- 4:25Speaker 7: in this future. Who can now?
- 4:27Speaker 8: And I say in the future, because one of the
- 4:29Speaker 8: things that Native American people also say is that we
- 4:32Speaker 8: have to think about the seven generations, the generations the
- 4:36Speaker 8: people who are coming to young boys, the young girls
- 4:40Speaker 8: and their children seven generations from now.
- 4:42Speaker 7: What kind of a world, what kind of.
- 4:45Speaker 8: An earth are we going to be leaving these people?
- 4:48Speaker 8: And that's something we have to think about, something that
- 4:51Speaker 8: we should never forget. I always say we shouldn't have
- 4:54Speaker 8: just one day for Earth Day, but should be all
- 4:57Speaker 8: the year round, every day again, and I often say
- 5:04Speaker 8: it's very important for the young boys and girls to
- 5:08Speaker 8: understand how important the Earth is for us. And I say,
- 5:12Speaker 8: when they did get to school every day and they
- 5:15Speaker 8: say the pleasure relations to the flag, they should also
- 5:19Speaker 8: improve at.
- 5:20Speaker 7: The end of that, thank you Earth. So they're constantly
- 5:24Speaker 7: reminded of how.
- 5:25Speaker 8: Much was depended upon the Earth, and that's why we
- 5:28Speaker 8: have Earthday, why we should have Earthday every day. But
- 5:31Speaker 8: I didn't have a prayer I wanted to share with you.
- 5:34Speaker 8: This is an old Maiden Earth prayer. But it's kind
- 5:37Speaker 8: of interesting as how we reading this. This is really
- 5:40Speaker 8: very relevant today, even though it maybe one hundred years old. Creator,
- 5:48Speaker 8: open our hearts to peace and healing between all people. Creator,
- 5:57Speaker 8: open our hearts to provide and pretend for all our
- 6:02Speaker 8: children of the Earth. Creator, open our hearts to respect
- 6:10Speaker 8: the Earth and all the gifts of the Earth. Creator,
- 6:16Speaker 8: open our hearts to end exclusion violence. And here among
- 6:22Speaker 8: all people, thank you for your gifts of this day
- 6:28Speaker 8: and every day.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And I think that's.
- 6:30Speaker 8: Really very Now we have a dance coming up for
- 6:35Speaker 8: young lady. I'd just like to say that I am
- 6:38Speaker 8: from two tribes. My father is hoping from Arizona. My
- 6:42Speaker 8: mother is Undebego from Nebraska. The young lady is going
- 6:45Speaker 8: to be dancing for us. She's from two tribes also,
- 6:48Speaker 8: from the Cherokee tribe from North Carolina and the Tiano tribe.
- 6:52Speaker 8: And they come in a small group of violands down
- 6:55Speaker 8: in the Caribbean. And her name is Marie Conci woman,
- 6:59Speaker 8: and she's going to be doing.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Hoop dance for you. But it's kind of interesting.
- 7:02Speaker 8: This particular style of hoop dancing comes from the honest
- 7:05Speaker 8: Snabi people to way up around Wisconsin and Michigan. And
- 7:09Speaker 8: as a dance is dancing with the hoop, she's going
- 7:11Speaker 8: to be making different kinds of designs of the things
- 7:15Speaker 8: you find in nature, different kinds of animots. It might
- 7:18Speaker 8: be a bird, and there also the different things you
- 7:22Speaker 8: find in the forest, like flowers and trees. And at
- 7:25Speaker 8: the end of the dance, she makes the globe which
- 7:28Speaker 8: is holding up at the gain and saying thank you.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Ever it once again, this is a hook dance house.
- 7:43Speaker 9: The subscriptions.
- 8:41Speaker 10: And all right, strangle myself right.
- 9:47Speaker 11: Now and first battusos and pons suspect them from the contractors.
- 11:58Speaker 3: The oh my god, perfect up, good, give me.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Nothing really to the nause.
- 12:26Speaker 4: You're a funderbord of Amerriagan Indian dancers.
- 12:41Speaker 10: Oh that's cool, so tellible.
- 12:48Speaker 6: And now we want to introduce everyone.
- 12:51Speaker 4: The Commissioner founded Carfree Hearth Day back in twenty sixteen.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Commissioner Idoni's Rodriguez. Yeah, but a big aprosm here.
- 13:10Speaker 9: Lot to figure out.
- 13:14Speaker 7: At the corner, like.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Thank you to clear channel.
- 13:21Speaker 12: And oh my, thank you for all that being a
- 13:23Speaker 12: great party helping us all times square everywhere, because everyone
- 13:27Speaker 12: need a clear channel.
- 13:28Speaker 6: That's why you know we have a big bother there.
- 13:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Stay, this is our Confree of Day twenty twenty five.
- 13:36Speaker 6: Another we're gonna.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Plus from everybody.
- 13:43Speaker 12: Like this place here it should be a storage for
- 13:46Speaker 12: car In the eighties, the four bloomber and Commissioner the
- 13:51Speaker 12: man had that idea on how we can work building
- 13:55Speaker 12: our plaza. Because so then we follow we majorly block
- 14:04Speaker 12: five millions for feet only for petition space in our
- 14:10Speaker 12: great city of New York. In the last three years
- 14:15Speaker 12: we have built almost ninety miles of protected by land
- 14:20Speaker 12: in our city. Two more than ning administration built in
- 14:26Speaker 12: a three year period, like the twenty twenty two that
- 14:29Speaker 12: we built in twenty twenty three and the twenty nine
- 14:33Speaker 12: that we built in twenty twenty and twenty twenty four
- 14:37Speaker 12: are numbers that think about and put together all the
- 14:42Speaker 12: largest city in our country, and we overpassed those numbers
- 14:47Speaker 12: when we measure.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Then and what we happy in the city New York
- 14:50Speaker 5: we had before, So.
- 14:56Speaker 12: No doubt that you know, I'm happy to say that
- 14:58Speaker 12: as a former council Because of my experience being born
- 15:02Speaker 12: and raised in the countryside in the island of the Caribbean,
- 15:05Speaker 12: when the water traputation was dunking horses bike and they
- 15:10Speaker 12: only one there was only one.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Person with a car, I know how important was to
- 15:15Speaker 5: be growing up as a child.
- 15:16Speaker 6: Well what was free from me in the in the sisty.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Now I had to pay for my daughter montessory education.
- 15:22Speaker 12: Because we wanted to expose our children to change, to
- 15:26Speaker 12: take challenges in life. We are doing everything from the
- 15:30Speaker 12: car free of day, from Summers Street, from you know
- 15:33Speaker 12: our more than two hundred and thirty seven open street
- 15:38Speaker 12: that we did in last year and turn two. Emily Kyles,
- 15:41Speaker 12: and they see and the whole team. You know that
- 15:44Speaker 12: they work every day, the whole cultural you know, society.
- 15:47Speaker 12: They are our partners and thank you for the God that.
- 15:50Speaker 5: They also do every day. There's someone here you singing
- 15:55Speaker 5: some phone.
- 15:55Speaker 12: I know that he's tweeting by raising and Kyle, if
- 15:59Speaker 12: you are not being in the biggest celebration on Native
- 16:02Speaker 12: American in New York City.
- 16:05Speaker 5: This is ready for the Teddy.
- 16:09Speaker 12: Twenty second yearly celebration of drums along the hops that
- 16:16Speaker 12: happening Ingo Park. Thank you God also for bringing all
- 16:20Speaker 12: the Native Americans together to celebrate while we are here
- 16:24Speaker 12: one because we are surrounded by great leader Congresment Atholands
- 16:29Speaker 12: will always be a great Congressman, So thank you for it.
- 16:31Speaker 5: As a service.
- 16:33Speaker 12: We have council members here like you know, a stakeholders,
- 16:37Speaker 12: everyone who cares.
- 16:41Speaker 6: If we want to have a better future for all.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Of us and for our children. Right mind they are
- 16:47Speaker 5: eighteen and twelve, but there's grandchildren.
- 16:49Speaker 6: There's newborn baby right now.
- 16:52Speaker 12: Sandy Katrina Marina ay that snow storm should be a
- 16:56Speaker 12: reminder to all of oats that as a little bol
- 17:00Speaker 12: for children that we already as a parent in his
- 17:03Speaker 12: Spanishes say in Planeta is that in palegal the planet
- 17:07Speaker 12: is in danger. That's not a job no less than
- 17:12Speaker 12: bout the responsibility. We cannot guarantee that we will be
- 17:17Speaker 12: saving our planet for the future generation. So we are
- 17:21Speaker 12: here because we want to honor Mother Earth. We are
- 17:24Speaker 12: here because April twenty second is the Earth Day that
- 17:28Speaker 12: we had choose also in New York City to celebrating
- 17:32Speaker 12: giving a break from cars and walk and buy more.
- 17:38Speaker 12: And we understanding those individuals that they lead in transportation
- 17:42Speaker 12: dessert area, why they had those cars, and we had
- 17:46Speaker 12: to build a road for that community too.
- 17:48Speaker 5: But at the same time, we put the public in
- 17:51Speaker 5: private to connect with.
- 17:53Speaker 12: A public transportation those transportation desert community in order for
- 17:58Speaker 12: to take more people off the car and by and
- 18:01Speaker 12: walk more.
- 18:03Speaker 6: So we only can you know, the only thing.
- 18:06Speaker 12: That we can do is a city to see us
- 18:09Speaker 12: as a global leader in creating a street that serve
- 18:12Speaker 12: all road users. Later this one, the temportation officials from
- 18:16Speaker 12: around the globe, they will be traveling to New York City.
- 18:19Speaker 5: To join DOOT in our second equity emotion.
- 18:24Speaker 12: And then we'll be leading from Africa, from Asia, from Europe,
- 18:28Speaker 12: from Latin America, Kembasiva and the big pr from Bay,
- 18:32Speaker 12: New York, so be ready for May four.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Right May four, there is a five orrow by tour, the.
- 18:40Speaker 12: Larger bick tour in the nation and the second larger
- 18:44Speaker 12: back tour in the whole world following South Africa. So
- 18:49Speaker 12: Kemba Civa also thank you. No, I only want to
- 18:52Speaker 12: remember everyone the institution such a back New York. Not
- 18:57Speaker 12: only that we'll be partnered with all for the emotion,
- 19:01Speaker 12: but they also will be holding a section where hey
- 19:05Speaker 12: and as the leaders of the larger back to in
- 19:08Speaker 12: the nation, the leader for South Africa who also will
- 19:11Speaker 12: be here, and all the leader from Europe, they will
- 19:14Speaker 12: be holding a conversation about the benefit of biking, not
- 19:19Speaker 12: only to promote it from the sport competition approach, but
- 19:22Speaker 12: also from the weldness. If you buy half an hour
- 19:26Speaker 12: every day, you live six more years. It's good for
- 19:30Speaker 12: your environment. For the environment, it's good for the economy,
- 19:34Speaker 12: and it's good for the whot So let's keep promoting
- 19:37Speaker 12: baking in our society. Biking is not a luxury, it's
- 19:41Speaker 12: a human right. Okay, It's not something that you be affiliated.
- 19:45Speaker 12: We open class and middle class with people with high
- 19:48Speaker 12: level or good educational background, it.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Should be also exposed for working class for me. So
- 19:54Speaker 6: New York City doing everything we can do.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Your Tea is working every.
- 19:58Speaker 12: Day to make it even easy to leave car free
- 20:02Speaker 12: in New York City, reclaiming more space on our street
- 20:06Speaker 12: for bike and boss laying, expanding car share and macro
- 20:09Speaker 12: mobility option like City Bike and Excluder, and creating more
- 20:14Speaker 12: attractive and welcoming public spaces for petitions. And that's why
- 20:18Speaker 12: I'm proud to say that I was one of those
- 20:21Speaker 12: co sponsors and the chairman at the time of the
- 20:24Speaker 12: community's Reportation that passed the build of the three Master Plan,
- 20:28Speaker 12: where we.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Also are investing more in on the street community.
- 20:33Speaker 12: There's the reason why if we live in Manhattan, we
- 20:36Speaker 12: are part of almost eighty percent of people that don't
- 20:39Speaker 12: have cars and use train and bosses. Well, those about
- 20:43Speaker 12: that had the privilege, we actually share that with the
- 20:46Speaker 12: other borough because no other borough had the same network
- 20:49Speaker 12: or train and bosses like we have in Manhattan. So
- 20:52Speaker 12: as we promote biking, as we promote walking, as we
- 20:57Speaker 12: promote people to use more bossing train, we also had
- 21:00Speaker 12: to realize that we have built a society that in
- 21:02Speaker 12: many places people are not connecting to the best trend
- 21:06Speaker 12: and bosses services.
- 21:08Speaker 5: So it's a lot of work that we're gonna do.
- 21:11Speaker 12: On Saturday, April twenty six, we will be celebrating the
- 21:15Speaker 12: larger open street car Free Earth Day celebration to.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Date this spring.
- 21:22Speaker 12: DOT will be hosting seven Signatures DOT producing vein throughout
- 21:27Speaker 12: the city in addition to forty seven deveins produced by
- 21:31Speaker 12: community organizations. This event will take place on Carfree Street.
- 21:37Speaker 12: It's not that we are closing the street, that we
- 21:40Speaker 12: are open the street for cultural, for wealth and for
- 21:43Speaker 12: buying for different type of celebrations. And those celebrations will
- 21:49Speaker 12: be happening in Oboro, including Roadway from here to Union
- 21:54Speaker 12: Square and that will be happening again from teny am
- 21:58Speaker 12: to four pm.
- 22:00Speaker 5: But as we're going to be having Carfreer Day in Manhattan,
- 22:02Speaker 5: it will happen in across the five boroughs.
- 22:05Speaker 12: In Queens is One ad A Street in the Bronze
- 22:09Speaker 12: and Poor Richmond Avenue on a starting Island. And as
- 22:12Speaker 12: someone from Washington Knight, yes in Washington Night Indictment too.
- 22:17Speaker 12: But we'll also behaving the Diamonds Run roads also being
- 22:20Speaker 12: powered so CA Carfree three operations.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Will run again on the twenty sixth, tenty into four pm.
- 22:27Speaker 12: We have more information and all Carfreer Day location on
- 22:31Speaker 12: our website nyc do gov.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Backlash car Free, Let's give Kenny Placentia.
- 22:39Speaker 13: Everyone appros Or is a person who run our Carfreer Day,
- 22:43Speaker 13: a summer street led by Commandarta and Nick Benson and
- 22:49Speaker 13: Julie Vero.
- 22:50Speaker 5: You know they are the white who doesn't worry.
- 22:51Speaker 6: Are going to speak on behalf of the agency.
- 22:54Speaker 12: My job is to work for them throughout the New
- 22:57Speaker 12: York City dot Art program.
- 22:59Speaker 5: We commission four environmental focus art work.
- 23:02Speaker 12: For the via Carfree Day, two escort to our intellection

- 23:17Speaker 6: to jayse the.
- 23:18Speaker 12: Coach Forte works for good and then will be able
- 23:21Speaker 12: to experience the others three art works our signature event
- 23:26Speaker 12: on April twenty six.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Thank you to one of the commissioned artists, Ernest.
- 23:31Speaker 6: Barrett, for joining us to day. Thank you for the
- 23:34Speaker 6: great job.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Man.
- 23:41Speaker 6: Don't be shocked, man.
- 23:42Speaker 12: We have on the arts d yea Cafrier Today will
- 23:45Speaker 12: also kick off our twenty twenty five Open Street and
- 23:50Speaker 12: Public Space programming season. A full list of these year
- 23:54Speaker 12: open street locations will be released closer to Earth Page.
- 23:59Speaker 12: I know New Yorkers we did a lot of team
- 24:02Speaker 12: during KOBE, but everything that we do today, let's compare
- 24:06Speaker 12: to our pre COVID and where are we today?
- 24:09Speaker 5: During COVIE there was a lot of open street, but
- 24:11Speaker 5: it was more barricade.
- 24:13Speaker 12: Where people could walk to those locations by from the
- 24:16Speaker 12: Mayor Alands administration to today, we are starting twenty two
- 24:20Speaker 12: with two hundred and seventeen Open three, then we move
- 24:24Speaker 12: to two twenty seven, then we did two to thirty seven.
- 24:27Speaker 6: So I think that.
- 24:28Speaker 12: Talon day sixteen correg when with my number, but that's
- 24:31Speaker 12: our number and those Open three are now as barricade.
- 24:36Speaker 12: Those Open three their partners with a non for profit
- 24:40Speaker 12: Business Improvement Districts and DOOT. Because of COVIE resources, we
- 24:45Speaker 12: were able to provide the financial resources and we are
- 24:48Speaker 12: committed to continue identify different way or how to continue
- 24:52Speaker 12: supporting those Open three, especially on the CER community that they.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Don't have the same financial resource.
- 25:02Speaker 14: Open three bringing men's value to our community, Open street
- 25:05Speaker 14: bringing people together encouraging Yorkers to get outside, provide access
- 25:10Speaker 14: to buy our neighborhood programming, and they're.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Good for small businesses.
- 25:15Speaker 12: Let's correct those people who say Open Street is not
- 25:18Speaker 12: good for the business. The Bloomber Foundation and DOOT we
- 25:22Speaker 12: partners in twenty twenty two and we find out that
- 25:25Speaker 12: when we have open Stree there's an increase of sell.
- 25:29Speaker 12: When we did the first time Calfree a Day, we
- 25:32Speaker 12: partner with Quebec and we run those numbers and we
- 25:36Speaker 12: find out that in the same corridor three Saturday before

- 26:01Speaker 6: Calfrer Day is about celebrating on the earth.
- 26:04Speaker 12: We encourage all the Yorkers on this day, in as

- 28:08Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
- 28:10Speaker 16: Good afternoon everyone, and thank you to GOT Commissioner Rodriguez
- 28:14Speaker 16: for bringing us all together to announce.
- 28:15Speaker 6: This year's Car Free earth Day.
- 28:19Speaker 16: Since its inception in twenty sixteen, the Open Streets program
- 28:23Speaker 16: has demonstrated how much more connected our communities can become
- 28:27Speaker 16: when we prioritize people over private car travel, whether on
- 28:32Speaker 16: foot our bike.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Car Free earth Day is the.
- 28:35Speaker 16: Perfect opportunity for New Yorkers to join their neighbors outdoors
- 28:40Speaker 16: and enjoy all the city has to offer while making
- 28:42Speaker 16: more sustainable choices for our shared future. Car emissions contributed
- 28:48Speaker 16: significantly to air pollution in New York, and this celebration
- 28:51Speaker 16: reminds us that the small decisions by choosing transit or
- 28:55Speaker 16: city bike can help build a healthier, more livable city.
- 29:01Speaker 5: This year's Carfree earth Thing is slated to.
- 29:03Speaker 16: Be the biggest ever, now spanning the five boroughs, and
- 29:07Speaker 16: I look forward to returning here on Saturday, April twenty
- 29:10Speaker 16: sixth and seeing Birdway come alive with all of the performances,
- 29:14Speaker 16: educational activities and more that the community has planned.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Thank you very much.
- 29:22Speaker 12: I also want to say thanks that you're jogging and
- 29:24Speaker 12: Jalie from the our department, thinking for the great job
- 29:27Speaker 12: there here, so without them what I announcing, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 12: be happy to.
- 29:31Speaker 6: Thank you Nay's here phone great parties.
- 29:35Speaker 12: I served with them as one capacity first one console
- 29:38Speaker 12: endber every Boddy and they fought about console member.
- 29:41Speaker 6: I'm like, great, Frank Kelle, haven't been.
- 29:44Speaker 17: Thank you to meission on Rogergan for this great initiative.
- 29:49Speaker 17: A couple of years ago, my niece and nephew came
- 29:52Speaker 17: to visit New York and they had a great time.
- 29:55Speaker 18: But as they were leaving, I asked, I asked them,
- 29:59Speaker 18: what did you think about New York And they said,
- 30:03Speaker 18: it smells weird and it's really loud.
- 30:06Speaker 17: So if it smells weird, they were talking about the
- 30:09Speaker 17: Pots book, and don't get me started about that. That's
- 30:12Speaker 17: a whole other press continent.
- 30:15Speaker 19: But when they said it's really loud, they were talking.
- 30:18Speaker 17: About the horns and the card traffic everywhere you go
- 30:24Speaker 17: in Midtown Manhattan, And I just believe that we shouldn't
- 30:30Speaker 17: have to live this one amidst honking ridlock for most
- 30:37Speaker 17: of the day in many parts.
- 30:39Speaker 7: Of New York City, and if you go around the world,
- 30:42Speaker 7: New Yorkers.
- 30:42Speaker 17: Hate it when we compare New York City to European cities.
- 30:47Speaker 6: New Yorkers hate it and.
- 30:48Speaker 5: To do that, But think about it for a minute.
- 30:51Speaker 17: When you go to many of these European cities, many
- 30:56Speaker 17: of which have millions and millions of people, and you.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Walk around and you're not amidst traffic.
- 31:03Speaker 17: They are designed for destinies with beautiful plazas, streets that
- 31:10Speaker 17: aren't lined.
- 31:11Speaker 5: With cars, bumper and frontper.
- 31:14Speaker 7: I simply believe that we can achieve a New York
- 31:18Speaker 7: that approaches that. And by the way, I'm not talking
- 31:21Speaker 7: about banning all.
- 31:23Speaker 17: Car traffic, even though that was an April Fool's joke
- 31:26Speaker 17: that I did a couple of years ago and a
- 31:28Speaker 17: lot of people liked the idea. We're talking about non
- 31:32Speaker 17: essential car traffic, and the vast, vast majority of car traffic.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Is non essential.
- 31:39Speaker 17: If you go to the entrance of the Hunts of
- 31:42Speaker 17: the Lincoln Tunnel during rush hour, you've got one person behind.
- 31:47Speaker 7: The wheel of each park.
- 31:50Speaker 5: So let's strive for a city that is.
- 31:53Speaker 20: More livable, less traffic, less congestion, and car re Earth
- 32:00Speaker 20: Day April twenty six to twenty eight is an opportunity
- 32:05Speaker 20: to realize a piece of that vision.
- 32:08Speaker 7: When we make decisions, we're not just.
- 32:10Speaker 17: Making policy decis for today with God to speak of
- 32:14Speaker 17: them as decisions for the future.
- 32:17Speaker 7: This what kind of future that meant.
- 32:19Speaker 5: So let's go out and make the kind of city.
- 32:22Speaker 19: Yeah, we all one of them too. Hello everyone, Good afternoon.
- 32:34Speaker 21: I'm so excited to be here with my colleagues and
- 32:36Speaker 21: all of the advocates who have been really really great friends,
- 32:40Speaker 21: who have been advisors and supporters and true advocates.
- 32:43Speaker 7: For the city.
- 32:45Speaker 19: I want to really thank the Commissioner because.
- 32:48Speaker 21: I haven't done a single thing related to transportation without
- 32:52Speaker 21: this man by my side. And whether it's the Open
- 32:56Speaker 21: Streets legislation which I was proud to pass during the
- 32:59Speaker 21: pandemic open culture, developing a network of greenways, protecting cyclists
- 33:06Speaker 21: and pedestrians during on street construction, and even developing a.
- 33:12Speaker 19: Bike infrastructure map which is now online.
- 33:15Speaker 21: We are truly trying to make New York City the
- 33:18Speaker 21: friendliest city to pedestrians and cyclists.
- 33:21Speaker 19: And when we pass open Streets and we codify that
- 33:24Speaker 19: into law, really the vision is what car free Earth
- 33:28Speaker 19: Day looks like. There are people out in.
- 33:30Speaker 21: The streets enjoying themselves, there are artists, there are even
- 33:34Speaker 21: places to get a drink of water. You can ride
- 33:36Speaker 21: your bike, you could push your baby stroller, and you
- 33:39Speaker 21: can enjoy every single thing that New York City has
- 33:42Speaker 21: to offer. And it really tries to accomplish so many
- 33:45Speaker 21: things at once and does so very successfully. It's really
- 33:49Speaker 21: ensuring that we're taking care of our planet. We're actually
- 33:53Speaker 21: recognizing that most New Yorkers don't own a car. And third,
- 33:57Speaker 21: I would say, we want to be out in these
- 33:59Speaker 21: streets because that's what New York City is known for.
- 34:01Speaker 5: What do we like to say, We walk everywhere and
- 34:05Speaker 5: this I know, the grid's a little crazy.
- 34:07Speaker 21: Downtown is kind of confusing of town. It's nice to meet,
- 34:10Speaker 21: but that's what makes New York City so great. You
- 34:13Speaker 21: can walk and have a different experience in a different
- 34:15Speaker 21: neighborhood and see something very cool at every single corner.
- 34:19Speaker 21: And we have the advocates and the artists to thank
- 34:21Speaker 21: for that, and we have to support arts and culture,
- 34:24Speaker 21: and we have to support transit advocacy every single step
- 34:27Speaker 21: of the way. So I want to thank DOT because
- 34:30Speaker 21: this event also marks the launch of our Open Streets
- 34:32Speaker 21: and Public Programming season and with thirty million dollars in
- 34:37Speaker 21: funding the environment of Transportation and City Council is committed
- 34:40Speaker 21: to making these spaces more accessible, more vibrant, and more welcoming.
- 34:45Speaker 19: And today is about imagining a city where our streets.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Serve people first.
- 34:51Speaker 21: We can build a healthier, more sustainable, and more connected
- 34:55Speaker 21: New York and it starts with events like this. So
- 34:58Speaker 21: I want to encourage everyone to go out. I see
- 35:00Speaker 21: a local celebrity. I've seen mister missus met out on
- 35:04Speaker 21: car free Earth Day. Okay, So really, truly the best
- 35:07Speaker 21: New Yorkers are out there enjoying city investments. And what
- 35:11Speaker 21: is so important, which are our public spaces. So thank
- 35:14Speaker 21: you to the Commissioner, of my colleagues and all of
- 35:15Speaker 21: the advocates. This is truly your when you make this
- 35:17Speaker 21: happen every single year, and it's also a victory for
- 35:20Speaker 21: environmental justice.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Thank you, Thank you guys. Remember, and I would like
- 35:26Speaker 5: to encourage everyone that by the end, everyone put in the.
- 35:31Speaker 12: Social media you know, and speak to your friend who
- 35:33Speaker 12: are celebrity you know and tell them to do the
- 35:37Speaker 12: same thing. When I did a covery day for the
- 35:38Speaker 12: first time, we have from Bett Miller to Limanu and
- 35:41Speaker 12: Miranda to yield the social media to encourage the Yorkers.
- 35:45Speaker 12: So here we have many friends, so they Broadway League.
- 35:50Speaker 12: Everyone here they've been parted. But we want to make this,
- 35:53Speaker 12: you know, a real likea movement. Everyone here they see
- 35:57Speaker 12: if we would take a feature from there. From here
- 36:00Speaker 12: are two old everyone here, they will be spray across
- 36:04Speaker 12: the five borough. That day they will be up Broadway
- 36:07Speaker 12: from here to Union Square. They will be in Stacking Island,
- 36:10Speaker 12: they will be in Brooklyn, they will be in Queens,
- 36:13Speaker 12: they will be in rand Concord.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Today we are here at nine for a photo. But
- 36:17Speaker 5: that day but to two p a.
- 36:19Speaker 6: You will see. This is gonna be here, so busy being.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Sure that they did the best of them through culture,
- 36:24Speaker 5: through wellness.
- 36:25Speaker 6: Through education to report so again if they were on
- 36:28Speaker 6: a flow to all of you did.
- 36:31Speaker 12: The personnel comes big and only he brings thirty six
- 36:35Speaker 12: thousands and buy a cyclist, you know, to participate in
- 36:38Speaker 12: the largest by two in the Nasion and the second
- 36:41Speaker 12: largest one in the world by From there that day
- 36:45Speaker 12: to the whole year, he worked with his team, teaching
- 36:49Speaker 12: changer and how to buy, teaching adults how to buy,
- 36:53Speaker 12: working with individual that they made some mistake and they
- 36:56Speaker 12: came from Rackets Island and they training them to be
- 36:59Speaker 12: mechanics and those are the men and women that they
- 37:01Speaker 12: are facing over city Bike with the okay, but Siva,
- 37:04Speaker 12: thank you, Thank you, Commissioner, thanks for bringing up the
- 37:11Speaker 12: TD Fiver of Bite Tour.
- 37:14Speaker 22: There are thousands of road bikes around the country and
- 37:17Speaker 22: USA Today decided that they would have a panel of
- 37:20Speaker 22: experts compile the top twenty psychling events in the country.
- 37:25Speaker 6: The TD Fiber of Bike toys on that list, and.
- 37:27Speaker 22: Then they developed Then they decided to have a poll
- 37:30Speaker 22: and pull the country to see which is the top
- 37:33Speaker 22: ones and it was announced yesterday that the TD Fiver
- 37:37Speaker 22: of Bike Tour came in number one.
- 37:39Speaker 6: So we're very happy about that. And I think for
- 37:41Speaker 6: two reasons.
- 37:43Speaker 22: One it's car free in the greatest city in the world,
- 37:46Speaker 22: and two is a few years ago, Mission Rodriguez and
- 37:50Speaker 22: Maya Adams decided to give the tour an extra hour
- 37:53Speaker 22: of time because it's very congested, and that was a
- 37:55Speaker 22: game changer. It made the tour so much better and safer,
- 38:00Speaker 22: and as a result, it just keeps getting bigger and
- 38:03Speaker 22: better and more people signing up. So thank your Commissioner,
- 38:06Speaker 22: and I look forward to seeing everybody on May fourth,
- 38:09Speaker 22: and I know Carolina joins us, and I hope some other.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Electric officials do as well.
- 38:14Speaker 23: Well.
- 38:14Speaker 22: Here for Caffree Earth Day, which is a shiny example
- 38:18Speaker 22: of how great the city could be with fuel cars
- 38:21Speaker 22: and giving it back to the people.
- 38:24Speaker 6: You know, Amsterdam was in.
- 38:25Speaker 22: Amsterdam at one point they decided in the seventies to
- 38:28Speaker 22: have car free Sundays, and all of a sudden, the
- 38:31Speaker 22: people said, we're.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Not going back.
- 38:33Speaker 3: We like it.
- 38:34Speaker 22: It's more livable, it's better for a pedestrian cyclist, and
- 38:37Speaker 22: Amsterdam is what it is today. And the closer we
- 38:40Speaker 22: creep up to more carfree day and the bigger it gets,
- 38:44Speaker 22: I think the closer will come to that.
- 38:46Speaker 6: But it really is.
- 38:47Speaker 22: Commissioned Rodriguez that created this in twenty sixteen. I was
- 38:50Speaker 22: here at the first press conference, and he is he
- 38:53Speaker 22: doesn't just talk. He's a doer and he gets things done.
- 38:56Speaker 22: And every year it gets better and better. This year,
- 38:59Speaker 22: Bye New York will be training adults and kids. Had
- 39:01Speaker 22: to ride at three locations in the Flat Eye District,
- 39:05Speaker 22: Washington Heights and Albscuring Brooklyn, and but the first time
- 39:08Speaker 22: ever We're also going to be giving free bike reparent
- 39:10Speaker 22: these locations, so come out and look focusing everybody there.
- 39:14Speaker 12: Thank you, Phil than seventy much what Ken said that
- 39:19Speaker 12: we were able to provide him. We a lot of
- 39:22Speaker 12: time decisions from the Mayo Adams and NYPD addition hour.
- 39:27Speaker 5: He was trying to the addition hour.
- 39:29Speaker 12: From the time of may Coach when he was a mayor,
- 39:32Speaker 12: and it was now that he was able to get
- 39:34Speaker 12: the hour because it's.
- 39:35Speaker 6: A lot of work. So thank you also for you
- 39:37Speaker 6: persistent with that.
- 39:39Speaker 12: The same thing that we did with the Summer Street
- 39:41Speaker 12: great initiated by Bloombing Jannette, but he was only seven
- 39:43Speaker 12: miles from brooklyn Bridge to seventy nine. Now brooklyn Bridge
- 39:47Speaker 12: is almost twenty miles going up to one twenty five
- 39:51Speaker 12: and bid too because probably going to be even norther
- 39:53Speaker 12: than one twenty five across the five Orrow.
- 39:56Speaker 5: So we have many partners. One of them is the
- 39:58Speaker 5: open street.
- 39:59Speaker 12: When I I went to see one of the open
- 40:02Speaker 12: stree in Washington, I was worth between one.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Eighty second and one eighty third.
- 40:07Speaker 12: I didn't think it was possible to see an open
- 40:11Speaker 12: three in a place that there's.
- 40:13Speaker 5: So many car going through. But there are two a
- 40:15Speaker 5: school that they don't they need.
- 40:17Speaker 12: A space and Open Street they did did a great
- 40:19Speaker 12: jat So Michelle Levy from Open Street come and say
- 40:23Speaker 12: if you work.
- 40:30Speaker 24: Thank you to the commissioners to sell to the whole
- 40:32Speaker 24: dot for your partnership.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I'm the founder of Any for Kids.
- 40:36Speaker 24: We provide kids and family fitness programming. We do all
- 40:40Speaker 24: dives of inclusive fitness classes and movements. We're based on
- 40:44Speaker 24: the Upper East Side, but together as a public programming partner,
- 40:47Speaker 24: we have grown with car Free Birthday over the last
- 40:50Speaker 24: few years and it's been so special to see it
- 40:52Speaker 24: start with just a.
- 40:53Speaker 19: Few blocks to this whole big thing.
- 40:55Speaker 24: We've been in Brooklyn in the Bronx and Manhattan and
- 40:59Speaker 24: Queen's and I'm so excited for this year. We provide
- 41:02Speaker 24: mobile experiences. We bring the fun to the communities where
- 41:05Speaker 24: they get to come out, get active and learn about
- 41:09Speaker 24: all the different.
- 41:09Speaker 25: Ways that they can stay healthy and safe.
- 41:11Speaker 24: And it's just such a wonderful thing that we get
- 41:14Speaker 24: to celebrate every year, and it's something.
- 41:16Speaker 7: My team and I look forward to year after year.
- 41:19Speaker 24: So I'm excited for April twenty six.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Thank you so much.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 41:26Speaker 6: And time and Julie, come here.
- 41:29Speaker 5: There's another one for a lot of time.
- 41:31Speaker 6: They square in the fourteen sweez here.
- 41:34Speaker 12: But I want for them to say your work. You know,
- 41:36Speaker 12: they are the one who tell you responsibility. I said,
- 41:39Speaker 12: we're not putting money on activation. They're responsible to the
- 41:43Speaker 12: whole activation, in the whole location. So thank you guys,
- 41:46Speaker 12: and come and say if you work.
- 41:50Speaker 24: Hi.
- 41:50Speaker 26: Get after the interview And I'm Julie Stein.
- 41:52Speaker 19: I'm the executive director of Unions for a partnership where.
- 41:54Speaker 6: The business of premer District, your community organization.
- 41:56Speaker 5: Pre Union Square on fourteenth Street.
- 41:59Speaker 26: Union Square is a place where you can expect unique
- 42:01Speaker 26: and immersive experiences that are authentively New York in all
- 42:05Speaker 26: of our public spaces, which is why we're so excited
- 42:07Speaker 26: to be hosting part of car Free Earth Day here
- 42:10Speaker 26: with Dot. You can expect to see a day full
- 42:14Speaker 26: of beautiful music throughout our Broadway Plaza, which goes from
- 42:17Speaker 26: seventeen to eighteenth Street. We're so excited to show off
- 42:20Speaker 26: the incredible work that Goot just completed last year bringing
- 42:23Speaker 26: the Broadway Vision Plan all the way down to Union
- 42:25Speaker 26: Square and are now fully pedestrianized plaza on that block.
- 42:28Speaker 5: It's going to be a spectacular day.
- 42:30Speaker 19: We are so grateful for all of our.
- 42:31Speaker 26: Partnerships with the Department of Transportation, whether it's with the
- 42:34Speaker 26: Plaza program or our arts partners or the entire Public
- 42:37Speaker 26: Realm team. And we love car free Earth Day because
- 42:41Speaker 26: it gives us a chance to show off the improvements
- 42:43Speaker 26: at Howard Heart have already been made, and it allows
- 42:46Speaker 26: us to imagine our ambition to further pedestrianize and further
- 42:49Speaker 26: make pedestrians friendly the.
- 42:51Speaker 5: Public spaces and Union Square and on Fourteenth Street.
- 42:53Speaker 26: And we are so grateful for the support that we
- 42:55Speaker 26: have from the Commissioner and from Congressman Nadler, and from
- 42:59Speaker 26: Councilmburo and from Council Humber Batcher, all of which are
- 43:02Speaker 26: here today who represent our district of our ambition to
- 43:05Speaker 26: make Unionsquare just a fabulous modern public space.
- 43:08Speaker 5: And so thank you so much for coming and seeing
- 43:10Speaker 5: us on Parker Earth Day and.
- 43:11Speaker 26: For our continued partnership on our vision bringings, for our
- 43:14Speaker 26: workingships so much.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Hello.
- 43:19Speaker 27: I am Jane Rossman with the Garment District Alliance bid Down.
- 43:23Speaker 7: Just a couple of blocks from here.
- 43:25Speaker 27: I feel like I'm not as eloquent as truly, we
- 43:28Speaker 27: really want to kind of reiterate all of that. But
- 43:31Speaker 27: as a born and raised New Yorker, I can't even
- 43:34Speaker 27: drive a car, so this kind of event truly speaks
- 43:38Speaker 27: to what I find important in New York City. And
- 43:41Speaker 27: we as a bid we really emphasize our public arts,
- 43:45Speaker 27: realm or program throughout the years, and this kind of
- 43:50Speaker 27: event really exemplifies why we find programming and installations and
- 43:56Speaker 27: especially environmental activism and justice as part of why we
- 44:00Speaker 27: do our work in the grounds.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Thank you, Thank you very much, Commissioner. I'm Tom Harris
- 44:07Speaker 5: with the Times Square Alliance.
- 44:08Speaker 23: Thank you to the Department of Transportation on the Commissioner
- 44:11Speaker 23: Rodriguez as leadership for they have vision for Times Square
- 44:16Speaker 23: for these pedestrian plazas as as Commissioner Rodriguez said in
- 44:19Speaker 23: two thousand and eight, cars would be driving where we
- 44:22Speaker 23: are now, sixty seven percent of Times Square was for
- 44:26Speaker 23: cars and thirty three percent was for pedestrians. Since two
- 44:30Speaker 23: thousand and eight, we have flipped that number. Now it's
- 44:32Speaker 23: sixty seven percent for pedestrians and thirty three percent for cars.
- 44:37Speaker 28: So we are thrilled.
- 44:38Speaker 23: And as for the businesses, we have more businesses open
- 44:41Speaker 23: now in the bow Tie today than we did in
- 44:44Speaker 23: two thousand and eight.
- 44:45Speaker 5: So the businesses are thriving. They are not suffering with
- 44:50Speaker 5: less cars in the areas.
- 44:51Speaker 23: As Congressmann Aglas said on April twenty sixth, we're going
- 44:55Speaker 23: to come and celebrate car free Day. In April twenty
- 44:58Speaker 23: sixth I said for six car Free Day in Times Square.
- 45:03Speaker 23: We are partnering with the Broadway Bringing Alliance, whose mission
- 45:06Speaker 23: three hundred and fifty three hundred and sixty five days
- 45:09Speaker 23: a year is to make our planet, our city more
- 45:13Speaker 23: environmentally friendly.
- 45:14Speaker 6: So we're gonna have a great show for them. Again.
- 45:17Speaker 23: Thank you for your leadership and Commissioner Averiders truly is
- 45:20Speaker 23: a force of nature. He thought of this in twenty
- 45:23Speaker 23: sixteen and last year got me on a bicycle, So
- 45:26Speaker 23: thank you him.
- 45:30Speaker 5: Never question though when we started, I was only able
- 45:34Speaker 5: to look coffee.
- 45:35Speaker 6: Day to block in front of my office.
- 45:39Speaker 5: I wasn't having it between.
- 45:40Speaker 12: One seventy seven, one seventy five and a Broadway from
- 45:44Speaker 12: twenty third to fourteenth three, So you has imagine that.
- 45:48Speaker 12: Now we are here and as we have partner from
- 45:52Speaker 12: the Unions player our vision for Broadway Glow for Unions
- 45:56Speaker 12: Quaer to Columbus cirt. That's a vision we send a
- 46:00Speaker 12: very day, but this is part of the holistic one
- 46:03Speaker 12: that we are.
- 46:04Speaker 6: Doing it to make our see more walker. I want
- 46:07Speaker 6: to call Keith from.
- 46:09Speaker 12: Deeca to say if you are because he's a poniard.
- 46:12Speaker 12: Decas is an entity that run lonely. They saving Samba
- 46:16Speaker 12: also or the fleet, and every day under his leadership,
- 46:21Speaker 12: he's working so hard.
- 46:22Speaker 5: To be sure that we are responsible to our mother earth.
- 46:25Speaker 6: Keith, thank you very much, Commissioner.
- 46:30Speaker 29: I'm proud to say that Decass was there at the
- 46:33Speaker 29: very beginning with you helping build this event. I'm Keith Kerman,
- 46:37Speaker 29: the chief Fleet Officer for the City of New York.
- 46:39Speaker 29: And you might ask why is a fleet officer here
- 46:42Speaker 29: at a car free day event. Well, I'm also a walker,
- 46:46Speaker 29: a biker. I took the subway here, as I've done
- 46:49Speaker 29: every day for thirty one years in New York. We
- 46:51Speaker 29: don't want there to be any more vehicles than there
- 46:54Speaker 29: need to be. We want to see the movement toward
- 46:58Speaker 29: public space, some roach on the roadways, and as much
- 47:03Speaker 29: open and free activity in the city as we can.
- 47:08Speaker 6: And then where you do need vehicles, we want them
- 47:12Speaker 6: to be zero emission.
- 47:14Speaker 29: We want them to be designed for safety so truck
- 47:17Speaker 29: operators can actually see people around them.
- 47:19Speaker 6: It's called the high vision truck.
- 47:21Speaker 29: Did you know that vehicles can be designed today so
- 47:23Speaker 29: they cannot speed, will not speed at the vehicle level,
- 47:27Speaker 29: and also sideguards on trucks so they're safe when they
- 47:30Speaker 29: take turns.
- 47:31Speaker 6: We've worked, you took my thunder.
- 47:35Speaker 29: We worked with Commissioner Arriguez when he was our council
- 47:38Speaker 29: chair on all of these efforts, including surround cameras. So
- 47:42Speaker 29: we want as few vehicles as possible and where we
- 47:46Speaker 29: have them not to admit and to be safe.
- 47:49Speaker 6: So thank you for partnering on this event, Thank.
- 47:53Speaker 29: You for having us, and we'll be out here doing
- 47:55Speaker 29: education about safely while you're all enjoying an open plaza.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you.
- 48:02Speaker 6: We almost known.
- 48:03Speaker 5: Of course we have one hundreds of partners.
- 48:06Speaker 6: But we only have like four more.
- 48:08Speaker 12: First, I want to call a Valentina Road from fourteen
- 48:11Speaker 12: to come and said you works.
- 48:16Speaker 6: You Hi, everybody.
- 48:18Speaker 7: My name is Valentina Rojas and I am the.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Environmental Health Manager.
- 48:22Speaker 7: We act for environmental Justice.
- 48:24Speaker 25: We act as a community based organization that has been
- 48:27Speaker 25: fighting for environmental and climate justice since nineteen eighty eight.
- 48:32Speaker 25: We would like to thank the DFT for giving New
- 48:34Speaker 25: Yorkers a car free day.
- 48:36Speaker 7: This is a day of reduced emissions, and this is
- 48:38Speaker 7: a day of reduced pollution.
- 48:40Speaker 25: Vehicle missions are a critical environmental justice issue. Studies show
- 48:44Speaker 25: that people of color and low income communities are disproportionately
- 48:47Speaker 25: exposed to air pollution from all sources, including tail pipe
- 48:51Speaker 25: emissions from cars, trucks, and buses that are in fossil fuels.
- 48:55Speaker 25: We ACT has a long history of fighting for reduced emissions.
- 48:59Speaker 25: Our Dirty Diesel campaign help reduce NTA bus tailpipe emissions
- 49:03Speaker 25: by ninety five percent citywide back in nineteen ninety seven. Currently,
- 49:08Speaker 25: I'm leading a project to expand our network of air
- 49:11Speaker 25: quality monitors across northern Manhattan. Our community is under threat
- 49:15Speaker 25: from buildings and vehicles that are burning fossil fuels, along
- 49:21Speaker 25: with other sources of air pollution. Setting up these monitors
- 49:23Speaker 25: is essential for us to better understand the quality of
- 49:26Speaker 25: the air that we breathe.
- 49:27Speaker 5: We should have some news to.
- 49:28Speaker 25: Announce on the coming front about these air monitors. In
- 49:31Speaker 25: the meantime, we like to see more car free days
- 49:33Speaker 25: in New York and we would also like to see
- 49:36Speaker 25: more electric buses in Northern Manhattan and other environmental justice
- 49:39Speaker 25: communities in New York City, especially considering that these communities
- 49:43Speaker 25: have the highest asthma rates in the whole country.
- 49:46Speaker 7: So let's celebrate this car free day and hopefully many
- 49:49Speaker 7: more to come.
- 49:50Speaker 5: Thank you. You have seen these persons taking girds or laying.
- 49:57Speaker 12: Development is skilled in volleyball, and they're taken to cut
- 50:00Speaker 12: through a scholarship.
- 50:01Speaker 6: You are seeing in his school ps.
- 50:03Speaker 12: One sixty four on the Coffree day, you were seeing
- 50:06Speaker 12: in the street doing ballible listen what come and safety want?
- 50:16Speaker 30: Of course, I want to say thank you to VOP
- 50:18Speaker 30: and Commissioner Rodrigo for this opportunity, opportunity in which we
- 50:23Speaker 30: open up the street for our youth to use it,
- 50:26Speaker 30: our youth to be part of the vice even thank
- 50:29Speaker 30: you very much.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 50:33Speaker 12: I think that I'm one of the few domin things
- 50:35Speaker 12: that I don't do baseball, you know, but here has
- 50:38Speaker 12: someone that also you will see her with her baseball case.
- 50:41Speaker 12: You know, a lot of keeping exposed to babel now
- 50:45Speaker 12: your others. Last year he was at one twenty fibles
- 50:48Speaker 12: about in there in their case let's go for Berkalona
- 50:51Speaker 12: to come and safety.
- 50:51Speaker 19: Want Wow, good afternoon everyone.
- 50:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm very excited.
- 51:00Speaker 31: Thank you Ivani's for this invitation and also for giving
- 51:03Speaker 31: us the opportunity to be on the street on those
- 51:05Speaker 31: car free day And like I say, and I agree
- 51:08Speaker 31: to all the people that speak, I wish is many days.
- 51:12Speaker 31: What I do is I have an into a batting
- 51:14Speaker 31: cagases kid goes and play every day there. But now
- 51:18Speaker 31: we've been having the opportunity to put this on the
- 51:20Speaker 31: street when we do the car free day, and it's
- 51:23Speaker 31: really very exciting. You know that people everybody, they don't
- 51:26Speaker 31: stop using it. And we're very excited to be part
- 51:29Speaker 31: of this event.
- 51:30Speaker 19: And something great. And that's what I do.
- 51:33Speaker 31: I work for the community, and I have grandchilds and
- 51:36Speaker 31: I want the earth to be better for them when
- 51:38Speaker 31: I hear it anymore. So I think we all need
- 51:41Speaker 31: to keep working on having a better area for everybody.
- 51:45Speaker 5: So let's just keep doing it, everybody.
- 51:50Speaker 12: So I want to close with this thanking everyone reminded
- 51:54Speaker 12: that you know, I was a teacher for fifty years.
- 51:57Speaker 6: I will always be a teacher. I was always at
- 51:59Speaker 6: the base.
- 52:00Speaker 12: I will always be an activase in my life and
- 52:03Speaker 12: I will if I was a Console member as I
- 52:06Speaker 12: will also be thinking as as a council member too.
- 52:12Speaker 6: I was sorry I was forgetting one of the most.
- 52:14Speaker 12: Important partners so for from the beginning, you know, they
- 52:19Speaker 12: didn't providing free and freeze a city bike. And this
- 52:25Speaker 12: is a great thing because in only they say encourage
- 52:28Speaker 12: people to buy because it's good for the whole.
- 52:31Speaker 6: Before the economy.
- 52:32Speaker 12: But they also saying on car free that day, get
- 52:35Speaker 12: your code and you can free you can ride free
- 52:38Speaker 12: your city bike. So before anything, let's call Patrick no

- 52:49Speaker 28: I have a good announcement.
- 52:50Speaker 5: Yeah, kick on the roster, all right, Good afternoon everyone.

- 53:01Speaker 32: I'm proud to be here today with our partners at
- 53:03Speaker 32: the Department Transportation to celebrate Earth Day.
- 53:07Speaker 28: Symbolism matters and.
- 53:08Speaker 32: If you want to commend Commissioner Rodriguez for his leadership
- 53:12Speaker 32: on this car free Earth Day event, It's a powerful
- 53:15Speaker 32: way to highlight the importance of greener modes of transportation
- 53:19Speaker 32: in New York City.
- 53:21Speaker 28: At City Bike every day is Earth Day.
- 53:24Speaker 32: As part of my job, I look at a lot
- 53:25Speaker 32: of data, So I'm going to throw some numbers at you,
- 53:27Speaker 32: but I'll keep a brief. In twenty twenty four, we
- 53:32Speaker 32: enabled forty five million city bike rides.
- 53:36Speaker 28: A remarkable twenty nine million of those were on e bikes.
- 53:40Speaker 32: This was a twenty five percent and sixty five percent increase, respectively.
- 53:45Speaker 28: Year over year.
- 53:47Speaker 32: Last year, more than eight hundred thousand people tried city
