[upbeat rock music] Good afternoon, morning, evening,
• 0:21
listener. It's Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show 197. Wow. I did not quite finish that piece of jerky [laughs] before I pushed the button. Uh-oh. Gonna be smacking in your ear up in here.
• 0:38
Tony went to, uh- Held's... Oshkosh for Christmas and stopped at Held's and picked up a couple of Hondo jerky. [laughs] It happens. That was a record time though.
• 0:49
I think it was- Couple Hondo in, like, maybe two and a half minutes. [laughs] It's the first time that I've had the honey barbecue. What do you think? Not bad. It's okay. I- It's sweet... it is, it is sweet.
• 1:01
Honey things are sometimes, but, um- I'm a, I'm still a teriyaki guy... my, my daughter and I both think they've changed the ghost pepper recipe, and it's actually not good anymore because it's just so hot.
• 1:13
It's not as ghosty. Yeah. Or it's more ghosty. Maybe it's more ghosty. It's, it's c- it's certainly more Carolina Reaper-y feeling. It was pretty brutal. Huh.
• 1:23
Well, it's gonna be a lot more brutal 'cause we have a whole [laughs] pound of it. Oh, boy. Yeah. Yeah, and even a little bit of homemade Paul, Paul Taldoni- Yeah... jerky version. Not bad. Not bad.
• 1:32
Not bad for a first attempt- Yeah... I'd s- I'd say. All right. Uh, well, it's, there's still no snow here in the lower Wausau area. However, let's talk about why Tony's thumb hurts and other [laughs] and other things.
• 1:49
Oh, I've got a good... I got a 12-inch diameter bruise on my hi- hips surrounding that part of my leg too. Was that from the pocketknife? [laughs] Uh, yeah. That, that's the mark of it.
• 2:00
I, I would show it to you, except for I'm clothed.
• 2:02
Uh, yeah, last, uh, o- on Wednesday, no, on Tuesday, um, it was the perfect temperature for black ice and, and I completely ignored it, and I hopped on my bike to ride to work, and I literally went to take the first corner
• 2:18
and laid down so hard, I don't know what happened. The top of my thumb was bleeding. And- Is that from the thumb shifter? It's from the thumbie- That's-... jamming into my hand as the, as the handlebars kicked back.
• 2:31
Fortunately, there was a car coming, but they came to a grinding halt. I, I was, I did, I was in total disbelief. Um, I tried to walk and I felt the ice underneath me.
• 2:40
I'm like, oh man, I, I used my b- my, my chain fell off. That's how hard I crashed. Um, [laughs] and I'd landed on drive side up.
• 2:48
I don't know how a chain fell off, but I ended up walking back to the house, getting a ride from, from Molly, but as we're leaving the alley, I see someone riding down Chambers, and I'm like, "Oh, that's, that's, I hope he's studded or that's not gonna end well."
• 3:01
And we literally turned down to Burleigh and we're driving, and I look down Chambers, and here's this guy standing over his yard-sale'd bike just looking at it, can't figure out what the hell happened, so it wasn't just me yesterday, man.
• 3:12
There was a lot of downed... It was, it was rough, so. Yeah. Uh, well this is, I, eh, while we're supposed to have snow now, it's- Right... definitely for the next couple of weeks it looks like- Or-...
• 3:22
gonna be right at, right in that, you know, just thir- mid-30s zone where that- That, yeah... it's gonna be something that it will need to be looked out for. You know, it'll be daytime weather of, you know, 38 to 45.
• 3:34
Like today it was, well, Wednesday was 42. Yeah. Once the sun's out at all- It's, it's cold... it's beautiful. But, uh- It's just dangerous. No- So I'll, I'll be sore for a few weeks I think.
• 3:43
I, I really, I definitely rang my bell because I had a headache all day today. I had a little, I'm guessing a little mild concussion. Did you hit your helm? I'm guessing so. I don't know.
• 3:52
I, I literally, it happened so fast that I got up and I'm like, "Well, the bike doesn't work." And yeah. The whole- No, no damage to the helmet or no visible? No visible. It's a, it's a Nutcase.
• 4:04
You'll never know until it breaks and parts. Yeah. Is it a MIPS? So you- It is a MIPS... so you can crash multiple times- It is a, yes... with it? Thank God. Yeah.
• 4:11
[laughs] I can't, I can't have a helmet [laughs] that crash once on and crash like 20 times a year. I can't afford helmets like that. Well, yeah. Hope you're, hope you're gonna be doing all right.
• 4:19
Maybe time for a little, uh, recreational use to make things feel a little better. I don't know, man. It's, it's painful. I'm gonna hit the chiropractor. I got an excuse now to get my
• 4:30
credit thing reset so the government doesn't try to get, charge me extra. Not the government, my insurance. Whatever, same thing. [laughs] Holy crap, I went some sort of horse.
• 4:39
I just noticed I don't know how to spell Tombstone 'cause I, I put in the show notes that 20 Watt Tombstone's at, uh, Shank Hall next Friday- Ooh... which could be a really fun show.
• 4:49
They're a Midwest, northern W- Wausau area, I think, band that- Yeah... makes the loud, rackety, bluesy kind of, I don't know, guitar and drum business. They're pretty cool. I think they're gonna be good live.
• 5:03
Be a good thing to see. I got my, uh, one of my Guitar Smasher bonuses this week is, uh, the WMSE holiday party. Nice. When's that? So, uh, February... I'll have to look it up. Like February 17th.
• 5:18
It's a Wednesday, sorry. Might miss a podcast. What? Like 6:00, 6:30 to 8:30 schmoozing with the WMSE folk. Um, it's over on the south side. It's, I think it's Joey Turbo's Bar. Oh, okay.
• 5:31
Um, but I don't, I can never remember the name of Joey Turbo's Bar. [laughs] So- I, I did start the process of upgrading to Guitar Smasher status. I have not completed said upgrade.
• 5:41
That's a, that's a, that's a big upgrade, man. Oweing to the fact that we're poor here right now. Oh, somebody buy some bikes.
• 5:46
Well, we did get rid of an ice cream truck, but basically I'm giving it to another dealer, so- Oh... there's not much in it, but, you know, it's, it's just, it's rough, uh, with no snow here.
• 5:57
In fact, I found on the Travel Wisconsin website... where they do the snow reports. They have a snowmobile, uh, whatever else, and cross country I think is one of 'em, and there's actually a checkbox for fat biking.
• 6:14
I've got the link in the show notes so you can just- Check... check what the conditions are, and all the way up north of Wausau is poor. Poor or closed even. It's crazy.
• 6:23
So yeah, basically you're gonna wanna go up by, uh, Mr. Schlabowski there if you wanna do any kind of actual snow riding it looks like, at least on this side of the big pond.
• 6:33
I'm, I'm pretty sure one place you don't wanna be right now is anywhere in California. They don't... Well, they got lots of water. Oh, yeah, and that's about it. Yeah.
• 6:45
I, so I, I, I really thought it was kinda cool that they got that filter on there, though, that it's actually a fat biking filter, so TravelWisconsin.com/snowreport/crosscountry, and then check the box for fat biking,
• 6:57
and you will see [laughs] there's no snow here. [laughs] Uh, lots of weather stuff, I guess. There, uh, came across this when I was going through the emails the other day. The other day, the other day.
• 7:10
45- 45 No- it was a 45 North email touting their, uh, committing some money to a, uh, an outfit called Protect Our Winters, owing to the fact that if we don't have any snow, 45 North doesn't have a business model. Right.
• 7:24
Because that's pretty much what they make stuff for is cold and snow. And Protect Our Winter's obviously trying to protect, like, winter recreation and winter- Yeah... sports by addressing- Minnesnowta...
• 7:37
by addressing climate change is basically the whole plan here apparently. Check it out, protectourwinters.org. Doesn't exist. These people are crazy. Yeah. Climate change, it's a- It doesn't exist... it's a racket.
• 7:48
It's all a racket. It, it's, it's all a money grab. Money maker. Money maker. Money grab. Uh, ah. We're gonna get hate mail. From the climate change deniers? Yeah, people are gonna think we're telling...
• 8:00
We're being serious. George Santos or whatever his name is gonna call up and say- Isn't that the politician dude? Yeah. Oh. Yeah. [laughs] He's gonna say something? [laughs] Is he? Yeah. He's gonna say, "Climate change?
• 8:09
You guys are crazy." Yeah. Ugh. I, I, I, I'm not saying that because the weather is the way it is here now is directly related to climate change, but I'm not saying it's not. It's not. [laughs] Right?
• 8:22
'Cause this is the craziest- This is the crazy... We, we've had some weird winters in- Yeah, and the-... the last 10 years. Yeah, for sure This one's bizarre.
• 8:28
This is just, I, it has been basically in the 40s, and that's- I know... not normal, folks. It ain't right. Ain't right at all. That doesn't mean we don't have fat bikes, though.
• 8:37
If you wanna fat bike, you know, you can still get out. They're fun to ride anytime. And they're also four season things. Yeah, yeah. You can ride 'em in the sand. Yeah.
• 8:44
I think we talked about this last week maybe, that the beach on Lake Michigan is now becoming much more rideable, so. It's so exciting. By cracky, there's nothing better than...
• 8:53
I mean, riding in the snow is fine and fun and great and all, but riding on the beach is pretty much the best thing in the world. When it's like 90 and you got a breeze off the lake. Oh. Oh, it's just the best.
• 9:03
A couple of beers in your backpack. Right. It's just the best in the world. Nice sun. Yeah, you, you... That's, that's living.
• 9:08
I'm planning, before the next show I'm gonna go up and do a little recon and hopefully have some sort of status report. Uh, make sure that we can get over the
• 9:19
landslide and ap- apparently for the summer people have been walking or riding over it enough where there's a, a path enough to get past it, and once you're past it, it's beautiful. Heading north out of port there now.
• 9:33
I don't think the slide's that much, it's just that beach. Right. That first beach. Yeah, North Lake Park. Yep. Yeah. Yeah, so we'll, we'll check that out and, uh... Huh? Yeah. Oh, hey. More music stuff.
• 9:47
In fact, I, this might be more than more music stuff 'cause, you know, it's show number 197. By the way, Tony's here. Oh, yeah. I am. And then there's that other guy. He ain't here. What is he doing, birthday dinner?
• 9:58
Mama's birthday dinner. Can't go wrong. His mom's birthday dinner. Right. Your ma. His ma. Your ma. Not my ma. No, his ma. My mom's dead. Mike's ma. Mike's ma. JK's ma. So he's out of the, he's out of the studio today.
• 10:09
Uh, however, we have another birthday coming up really soon and, uh, uh, James, our, our building mate- Oh, yeah... uh- That's a show...
• 10:17
his birthday bash at Last Rites, which is a really cool venue, will have several bands including El Rongo. However- Crap, I told my friend the wrong location. Where's Last Rites? Uh, south. Okay.
• 10:30
Near Allen Bradley, but like Sixth Street, Fifth Street maybe. It's in, it's in that zone down there near- That's the new punk bar. Gotcha. Yes. Gotcha. Exactly. Gotcha. Gotcha. Exactly. I think we went there- Mm-hmm...
• 10:41
for an outside show this year during- Wasn't there... the polka ride I think was there. I wasn't there. I was- The polka ride was there... I was deploying to Afghanistan.
• 10:47
Anyway, so I was thinking now, what I was thinking is we're coming up on our 200th show. Mm-hmm. Mayhaps we should stake out a spot in there and do a show before the show. It's a Friday night, the 27th of January,
• 11:05
if you wanna go see. Is that our 200th show? Uh, it'll be our 199th that, that week, the w- that day we will post our 199th, but we could do our 200th show- 200th show there... there. It's a possibility.
• 11:19
It's just, I just had the idea today because,
• 11:22
well, I just remembered that Chris in the other, in the other room down there, another building mate, said, "Oh, there's, there's, uh, James' poster for his gig at Last Rites." Where's Last Rites?
• 11:33
Well, it, I got a link in the show notes. It's like Fifth- You can look it up... Fifth and South and National a little bit or something down there. It's the 27th? 27th. Yes. So we'll, we'll see.
• 11:44
It's bikeable unless- We'll bike... we actually get winter, and that's still bikeable, we just need a different bike. Right.
• 11:49
By next week we should know whether we're doing it, so we'll let you know and you can come and see the, the stars of your, uh, your fat bike, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast goodness thing.
• 12:00
Pretty sure everyone knows us. [laughs] Unless- Well, they come from out of town... all right, if you're listening, man Make the drive. Kilroy? Allroy. Allroy. Damn it. I think he's in Canadian, eh? Yeah.
• 12:15
He can come stay with us. No, I'm- We got places. We got places. Uh- More than welcome any time you want. I was just thinking, so w- we're still having building issues here. In fact, uh, believe in the next...
• 12:27
Today, Friday, I believe is the... No, it was yesterday, but I don't know the details yet 'cause it's still tomorrow from where we are. Right.
• 12:36
About their next court date, but then there's another one still the following week about the bullshittery going on here at the building.
• 12:43
That said, uh, I am planning to move the podcast studio over to the other building anyway, and I thought, well, since we're gonna build a room, we might as well put a loft up there with a little place for someone to crash if they come into town.
• 12:57
In the nut factory? Yeah. What a great idea. Above the podcast studio. Yeah. Yeah. It's gonna be- What a great idea... genius. Little, little room up there. Oh, it'll be, it'll be nar- it'll be good.
• 13:07
I don't know who's gonna avail themselves of it, but you don't have to be on the podcast either, but- Airbnb that motherfucker... maybe you're here for the River West 24. Yeah, Airbnb.
• 13:14
You can sleep above a podcast room in a, in a warehouse. Hey, 80 bucks a night. It'll be, it'll be unique. No cleaning fees. 80 bucks a night. Uh- No bathroom... uh, you know what?
• 13:26
It's, uh- [bell rings] Oh, oh, we made it. We made it. It's, it's the top of the hill there, folks. Oh, isn't that a nice sound? [bell rings] Mm-hmm. It's got good sustain on that bell. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. I was, uh...
• 13:39
Many years ago, there's a place that's, you know, sells bells. That's all they do, and I was looking for one- Could be a great name... Sells Bells. It's probably a website. Let's find out.
• 13:49
No, uh, they have, you know, the normal clankety clankety ones you might find at a cyclocross race, which are kinda like meh. This one just had- That's got tone... bangety bang. Yeah, you can... I put a sticker on there.
• 14:01
Yeah. That's, that's got a nice sound. Anyway, today's- Take it... uh, show beer is Lagunitas Hazy Wonder, and I don't think we've had it before. I've been- I can't remember...
• 14:13
well, I've been kinda poo-pooing Lagunitas just because they got bought by the evil overlord. They're the Coors. Ah, Bud. The Cor- oh, they're Bud. Yeah.
• 14:21
But still, they're, uh, allegedly running- I think they're given a little bit of autonomy 'cause- Yes... s- I hate- I believe that-... Budweiser beers... I believe that's true...
• 14:28
and this is actually incredibly delicious. Yeah, I... It is. It's a, it's a hazy IPA, West Coast style apparently, and it's got a lot of C hops in it. Cashmere, Comet, Citra, Chinook, Centennial. I don't know. Uh, it...
• 14:43
Simcoe, Sabro, and Mosaic. This seems like an awful lot of hops, but it's got a lot of them. And, uh- Maybe it's just a few of each, but yeah, it's definitely, um- We're gonna use one, one husk.
• 14:54
[laughs] It- it's, it's really pretty decent. It's 6%, is that what you said? 6%, yeah. So it's- So it's pretty drinkable too... not gonna beat your butt for having a couple- It ain't that-... two or three of them...
• 15:05
as I'm looking at this, uh, vein I had pre-show, which claims to be 6.8, and we'll once again go back to Tim, you're a fucking liar- [laughs]... 'cause there's no way [laughs] this is 6.8. It's...
• 15:21
I'm gonna guess somewhere between 7.9 and 8.2, 'cause that's just the way that man rolls. Right on. Well, we had, uh, Mr.
• 15:31
Mark Peterson queued up for this week, but, uh, he just sent a text that said, "Sorry, started a new job today. I'm on the road next week, if that's cool." Oh. Ooh, yeah.
• 15:40
Hopefully, 'cause, uh, Mark's a, Mark's a fun guy. [laughs] Not a mushroom, but, uh- [laughs]
• 15:46
I w- I worked with him on a gig out at a saddle drive 'cause he lives in Ogden, Utah, and it happened to be at a place right there in a ski resort in the summer, though, near Ogden, and he was a blast to work with.
• 16:00
He was our, he was our on-camera talent, telling people, asking questions. "What? Hey. Hey, what's that fat bike thing you got there?" That, that's what he said- Yeah... pretty much. Really? Yeah, it was good.
• 16:12
They're on, uh, they're still on the, uh, YouTube if you wanna go check 'em out from 19-- no, 2000 and- Early... 14- Naught... or '15 or somewhere. Oh. Oh.
• 16:20
I don't remember when that was, when saddle drives were a big thing. But, uh... Well, hopefully we can get him on next week 'cause, uh, he's, he, he's, he's very passionate about cycling
• 16:31
and, uh, been doing a lot of cool builds. If you follow him on the Facebook, you'll, you'll see lots of neat stuff that he's been throwing parts at and painting stuff and making things look cool. Cool.
• 16:45
Uh, switching gears a little bit, but not because it doesn't really have gears, but that... Is it Zeus Hub that's all the el- the new electric self-contained hub out of Spain or Italy? Italy. Italy?
• 16:59
From what I saw, yeah. Now there's two different vendors that are coming out with it as a, as an OEM wheel. I have not been able to find a ton of information about it yet, but it's...
• 17:08
I would imagine that they're targeting the OE market- Well, it's, it's-... more than the do-it-yourselfer...
• 17:12
it's funny because I noticed there's like a, it seems like a, a battle inside that there's one company selling a pretty exorbitantly s- priced folding... I believe it's Tii. That $6,500- Like-... kind of a thing?
• 17:29
  Um, actually, I don't think it's quite that bad, but it's, it's...
• 17:32
And they're touting that it's the, it's the lightest weight electric bike, folding bike, and it's 31 pounds, and then you look at Detroit, who is using the same hub, doing the same bike, coming in at 2,200 bucks.
• 17:46
That is also stating 32 pounds. Which is a steel made in the United States frame. Made in the United States. It's a, it's a, yeah, it's a kinetic, a, it...
• 17:56
Reading up on this hub a little bit about the technology, Chewy, um- Chew... is that, I mean, this thing is, is... It's so high-tech it worries me, let's put it that way.
• 18:07
I wanna give like four years of people's worth of riding it- I'm curious, yeah, 'cause-... because it's all internal...
• 18:12
do you, you charge it You can charge it, but they're claiming the regenerative braking charges it enough that you don't have to worry And you also can pedal backwards to charge it- You can... Right, right...
• 18:23
as well Also, which is weird. I like it. Yeah. I, it, I'd like to ride it because anything that makes it easier not to fit- futz with electric stuff is a good thing.
• 18:33
Well, and it would be kind of a you'd always be getting a workout if every time you weren't pedaling forward to enjoy it, you pedaled backwards to charge it. I, we need to find out how to get one of these things.
• 18:43
I've been trying to get one of these [laughs] for like a couple of years when I first heard about it, but we're starting to see vendors using it, so it's, it's, it's no longer vaporware or...
• 18:54
There's a, there's, they have an office in New York City. That's who was communicating with me last. Is it Z-E, Zeus? Z-E-U-S.
• 19:01
It's, it's- Zeus or- Well, l- look at D- Trey Bikes and just look at their electric bike- Yeah, yeah, yeah... and reverse engineer from there. I'll have a link in the show notes. It's a very- But, yeah...
• 19:10
very interesting hub. It's a lot like the Copenhagen Wheel, but not nearly as weird-looking. That's the ma- the first thing on their page. It's very simple, you know?
• 19:20
It's got your disc brakes, but it doesn't have a thing to futz with for anything on the electric side. Nothing. Got a dang old belt drive. Yep. Got a dang old funky looking wheel thing, though.
• 19:31
Maybe they ought to get horizontal dropouts on that thing. Uh, they aren't using a Gates belt either. They're using something else that lets you pre-tension it. It's really cool.
• 19:40
Well, it's got- Uh, Trek did it for a very limited time, too... it's got like a, a, not a derailleur, but a- Like a tensioner... a jockey, a jockey wheel in there... a jack, yeah, or a tensioner... a jockey wheel.
• 19:49
Low weight, pure function. Z-E-H-U-S, all in one motor. I, when, uh, when, when Tony first sent this to me, I was very interested in it because- It's funky... gotta, you gotta, you got a app for that, too. You do.
• 20:04
Yeah, you can run it through your telephone. And y- you know where you see, where I see, if this thing is dependable, um, freaking Bubbler. Yeah, they are, they at least- They get, they-...
• 20:14
they've got some electric bike now... they do, but this is way more, makes way more sense. Bubbler's Trek. I, oh, never mind. Never mind. Just so you know. Never mind. Yeah. That, well, let's, uh, let's keep our...
• 20:28
Bitride Connect app. That's, you got your app. You got your dashboard, your speed, your distance, power mode, register your bike, active electric lock. Yeah. Huh.
• 20:37
I wonder if you can just magnetize the rear wheel- It just doesn't move... so it doesn't, doesn't move. Right. That'd be pretty cool. Yeah, yeah, I could see some fun stuff out of that.
• 20:44
Yeah, that's kind of a neat piece of technology. Chewy. Chewy. Hey, speaking of Chewy, I hassled him last week. I said, "Hey, you haven't done a show for a while." That's true.
• 20:53
Like, hey, thinking about doing a show pretty soon, so. He, he, I was actually, I would like to talk to him about the, with the, um, the sports ball guy who had the heart attack, and I'm not meaning to be insulting him.
• 21:04
I'm just meaning to insult sports ball. Damar Hamill. Oh, thank you, that guy. Um, and there was a story on a, sadly, a young man in Minnesota who died, um, due to a hockey puck.
• 21:18
Uh, same situation and the little kid passed away. Found out he had a heart issue. There's now, his family does, like, heart evaluations as a nonprofit.
• 21:27
I'm betting Chewy knows these guys, so I'd really like to- Yeah, that'd be interesting...
• 21:30
I mean, they di- they, they test all kids regardless of sports through a series of tests to find out if they may have an undiagnosed heart condition that, and could potentially save their lives.
• 21:42
Yeah, I think that- Which their kid had one and didn't know it and died. I think what happened to, uh, uh, Damar is that this is normally something that happens in much younger children usually.
• 21:53
And so- It was all about timing, too. It was like- Yeah, I think it just makes your heart- Really unfortunate set of-... skip a beat and blah, blah, blah. Yeah. But yeah. Well, I, I mean, he's out of the hospital now.
• 22:01
I'm glad he's cool. Yeah, I'm glad he's all right. I mean, but it's, it's, it's- I don't know. Would you play football again, though? I, well, I wouldn't play football to start with.
• 22:07
[laughs] But- I mean, he made enough money. I'm hoping that that's not an issue. There's, there's a lot of lawyers and stuff involved with young football players. Yeah. You know, as far as getting,
• 22:20
you know- Well, he's also, uh, had a foundation that he'd started before this and- It did... That's so cool... just got just- Inundated... donation after donation after donation... like, the kids, the kids' toys thing.
• 22:30
Right, right. Yeah. For sure. He was asking for 25,000. Last I heard it was seven million. Yeah. That's cool. I mean, I, I, I hate sports. I don't hate sports.
• 22:39
I just don't understand them, but when something like that happens, it's, it's... It warms your heart. It's a heartwarming thing. Kind of like this hot Landjuger. [laughs] Oh, yeah, Landjugers too. I forgot about those.
• 22:51
Uh, I don't know what happened to the nubbin that was over there. It looked like a severed toe that was hardened, but it may finally have- Rot away... it was over by JK's mic over there. It was...
• 23:01
Yeah, it got really hard. Maybe a, a too hard. I think it, I think it, I think it may have gone the way o- either the garbage can or the mouth. I'm not sure which, but. It could've disappeared into vapor, too. Yeah.
• 23:12
It just kinda evaporates. Mm. Ugh. Yeah, I don't know. Uh, I guess they had the, uh, guess they had the- Should we-... Shell Track race up there in Manitowoc last weekend. Bet you that was moist. Well, here's the thing.
• 23:28
I did, I f- I, I just either sp- I spaced it is what happened, because I thought it was later than it was. Uh, Puck went up there. I think, uh, Gregers, Greg Han was up there.
• 23:41
I kn- I know Gomez did a quick report on Fatbike.com. You can probably check that out there. But what I did also notice is no snow again, because, and that's even two hours north of Milwaukee, so.
• 23:58
Uh, but it's on the lake, which is nice, so you can y- y- you can get some beach action going there on your, on your lake. Nice. Stuff.
• 24:08
It's a really nice park, and it was, it's always been a good event, so hopefully people had fun. I just forgot about it or- It was Huge Ass or Shell Track? It was part of the, uh, Snow Crown series that- Okay...
• 24:19
uh, George does up there- Okay. Sorry... out of, out of Green Bay. Although he does have a shop in Manitowoc now, so if you're kind of a fat bikie person up there where snow might be happening, you might wanna call Mr.
• 24:29
George at, at, uh, Broken Spoke up there, Green Bay way. Good, good guys. Yeah. He does a lot of... I, I actually gotta call him and see how his fat bike season's going, 'cause he goes deep and deep and deep on those.
• 24:43
Are you crying over the... Tony's got a little... He's cried a little bit. [laughs] I think it might have been something hot. I'm not sure. Might've been a hot piece in that one.
• 24:48
[laughs] He's got, his eyes are watering, folks. It's sad. Fuck you, Sven. [laughs] Oh, that was good. Ah, well. I'm back. I'm back. Do you... Okay. So
• 25:01
I- I'm going back to the Top of the Hill beer description just because, "Hazy Wonder embodies our endless f-" Okay, "F- fascination with hop forward brewing expres- expressed in a bright and unfiltered light.
• 25:15
Life is uncertainum." Okay, so both fascination and uncertainum are not spelled correctly, and I'm wondering if that's just being snarky or if they don't, [laughs] if they didn't- Spell check...
• 25:29
do their, do their due diligence because, uh, it just, it's like F-A-C-I-N-A-T-I-O-N. That's not right. No. And then U-N-C-E-R-T-A-I-N-M. I don't even know what that word is. Is that a word? That's not a word.
• 25:46
Well, it's not a word as far as I know. But anyway. If you wrote this, call in. Okay. But, okay, so it says, "Hazy Wonder is a West Coast beer free of schlarf." Now, schlarf I could see is a made-up word. Schlarf, yeah.
• 25:58
Yeah. So maybe those are made-up words too. Schlarf. I like making up words, and schlarf is a good sounding- Exactly... good sounding word. Golly, copywriters get away with a lot of stuff these days.
• 26:09
My dad was a copywriter for years and years, did ad copy for big, big companies, and always had his, um, what's, uh, Strunk and White, uh, The Book of Style. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 26:23
Which is super thin and tells you, "Don't be a jackass. Don't use too many words. Here's how you, you know, this is where you use that word and that word and that word." But he gave me one for
• 26:33
Christmas probably or a birthday many years ago, and I'm obviously never use it. But, uh, I gave one to my son 'cause he wants to write some stuff too. So I said, "This is what my dad did for me." Skips a generation.
• 26:43
"So I thought I'm giving it to you, brother. How's it going, man?" Skip, skips a generation. Yeah. Is that what happens? That's what they say. I dunno. Kinda like hair. I wrote a lot of stupid words in my life- Okay...
• 26:52
but I don't know if I've ever written anything worth reading. Well, uh, allegedly JK will be back next week, and hopefully we'll track down Mr.
• 27:03
Mark Peterson and have him on the show, and we will have news whether we're gonna do our 200th at Last Rites. Other than that, I think we did it again. [singing] Let's see how that sounds in real life.
