- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:18presented by Sea Kick. This is episode 450.
- 0:22I'll be your host, Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:28Reyes. Nate 450.
- 0:35This feels good. Well done.
- 0:45I don't even know why. I mean, if you really, really
- 0:48think about it, 450 isn't even like special of a number.
- 0:51It just sounds. It's round, it's clean.
- 0:56There's it's a baseball number, you know what I'm saying?
- 0:58It's a baseball number. We're going to see plenty of
- 1:01here tomorrow Night Live with us.
- 1:04So you know what I'm. Saying true, yeah.
- 1:06Yeah, yeah. First off, buddy, I just, I love
- 1:09you and I'm so proud of you for everything that you put into
- 1:12this thing. How much time and effort and
- 1:15like, wow, I I think I speak for the fans.
- 1:18You do an amazing job. I just sit here.
- 1:21I kind of hang out, talk shop, but I think everybody knows man,
- 1:25you do an excellent job. You got us here. 450 is crazy
- 1:29and. Man.
- 1:30To the freaking moon we go, baby.
- 1:32To the moon. I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:34I appreciate that man. I appreciate that.
- 1:35But as I've said before, if it if I didn't have you on the
- 1:39other end of the the mic, I would be talking to myself and I
- 1:42don't know how long that would last.
- 1:44I would have given up episode to go like hundreds of episodes of
- 1:47Go. So I appreciate you, appreciate
- 1:51you. You bring the juice.
- 1:53And as you alluded to, as reminder, this be the last day.
- 1:57We have to remind you really, 'cause it's tomorrow.
- 1:59It's well today if you're listening to it Live stream for
- 2:03the Home Run Derby. Just coming out just.
- 2:05Coming out, we're going to be hanging out Monday, July 15th,
- 2:098:00 PM as as we kind of already mentioned, we'll be hopping on a
- 2:12little early. Do we, do we have a time picked
- 2:14out for that? Do we?
- 2:15When do we want to? It's the So the Home Run Derby
- 2:18starts at 5 Eastern, correct? Eight.
- 2:22Well, 8 Eastern, five year time, 55 Pacific, 8 Eastern.
- 2:25Yeah, yeah. We're thinking like.
- 2:31I think an hour before, I think an hour, an hour, not an hour,
- 2:35maybe 30 minutes. I was like, man, dude, we're
- 2:37talking about really hanging out with the people.
- 2:40Maybe 30 minutes we just run through, maybe we run through
- 2:42some of the giveaways we just kind of talk about.
- 2:44I like that, yeah. Give people an opportunity, get
- 2:47their names in. I think we're going to have
- 2:49stuff like flashing on the screen, so it'll remind you as
- 2:52we go. So yeah, it'll be, it'll be fun.
- 2:57Just come hang out. I think.
- 2:59I don't know. Should we do a little?
- 3:01Should we do a little something? Should we get a little festive?
- 3:03I was thinking of like, maybe I should make a bunch of hot dogs.
- 3:06What do you think of that? Maybe I just maybe just eat a
- 3:09million hot dogs. Oh, make it fun.
- 3:11We're going to we're at. I think we may chat about it for
- 3:13a minute when we when we hop off here, get some.
- 3:16Get some I'm not saying like a shower though, I'm not telling
- 3:19you. No, no, no, no, no.
- 3:20I. Don't feel like throwing up
- 3:21during the the stream. But now, especially if we're
- 3:23going to be hanging out for a few hours, I'm not trying to,
- 3:26yeah. Just enough to get the hot dog
- 3:28burps going a little bit and then you shut it down.
- 3:31Yeah, which is like 2 nowadays, unfortunately.
- 3:35That's the beauty of this being audio and video only, no?
- 3:38It's true. No smell.
- 3:39Not yet. No smell.
- 3:40We're. Good.
- 3:41Yeah, Haven't, haven't reached that technology.
- 3:43Yet. Maybe.
- 3:43Maybe a 900. We'll see.
- 3:47Yeah. So come hang out with us for the
- 3:49for the Home Run Derby. Rather we'll be as as Nate
- 3:53mentioned, we'll be doing some giveaways.
- 3:54We'll be giving away some cash, we'll be giving away some merch,
- 3:58some prizes. We may even be giving away like
- 4:02some fresh hot pies. That was I think you had maybe
- 4:07talked about maybe doing some flash pizza.
- 4:09Giveaways, why do I feel like we did that first?
- 4:11Maybe we should bring should we bring back like Grand Slam pizza
- 4:14giveaways or something? You know, 'cause we did that a
- 4:18couple times and. Yeah, we did that back.
- 4:20What did we do that for? It was like when when Nestor
- 4:23would would. Yeah, it was like certain amount
- 4:27of strikeouts, right, or something like that.
- 4:29Yeah, it was something like that, Yeah.
- 4:30We'd give away a pie. And I think, I think you're
- 4:33right. I think there for a bit When,
- 4:35when that's what you're right. That's exactly what it was when
- 4:37when a Grand Slam would take place because we would have
- 4:39people let us know because we weren't able to watch like all
- 4:4215 games. People let us know like, hey,
- 4:44there's home run Grand Slam, you need to give away a pizza.
- 4:48And we're going to have some pizzas rolling.
- 4:49We're going to have some pizzas rolling tomorrow.
- 4:51And this is just what we do, baby, This is what we do.
- 4:56I'm looking forward to it. I've already had already had
- 4:59some people reach out to confirm some details like where can
- 5:02where can we hang out with you? YouTube.
- 5:06You can hang out with us on YouTube, Facebook, and then my
- 5:10Twitter. Kyle at Kyle Corwin takes as I
- 5:14mentioned, I don't know if the comment with the whole like API,
- 5:19which that probably goes over a lot of your heads with with the
- 5:23inability with the inability rather to comment or for us to
- 5:27at least see it through the Twitter.
- 5:29I think if you're if you want to engage, if you want to be
- 5:31submitting your your Venmo account or whatever for the
- 5:36drawings for the giveaways, the cash, the pizza, whatever, hang
- 5:39out with us on Facebook and YouTube.
- 5:41But if, if you're more of a Twitter person, that's fine.
- 5:44You, you can, you can still hang out with us, but make plans to
- 5:48join us. And we're, we're going to have a
- 5:49we're going to have a good time. It'll be, it'll be fun.
- 5:52Yeah. How are you feeling?
- 5:54You feeling good today? You feeling ready to roll dude?
- 5:57If for nothing else, it's. The last day, baby, it's the
- 6:01last day you made it here. We've.
- 6:03Made it. We made it to the break.
- 6:07Dan, no more Polo. I was going to say today is the
- 6:09day that we formally lay the Billy Bean attire.
- 6:14To rest, do you mind having like a safe fire or something?
- 6:19Should we Should we just burn it?
- 6:22Like when they when they lit the bird on fire in the office in a
- 6:27in a paper box out back. It just stomps out a little
- 6:30smoke. Oh, that's so good.
- 6:32Hey, clean this up. I like it.
- 6:34Come on, Mush. I think that's the move dude.
- 6:37Have a little ceremony. I thought we I thought we talked
- 6:40about sending this to Cooperstown.
- 6:43That's true. That's a good idea.
- 6:44Yeah. This is probably the only time
- 6:46anyone will ever see both of us in a polo at the same time,
- 6:49though. I just got off the course, so if
- 6:51you're watching, I almost had a heat stroke, but I didn't, so
- 6:55we're good. I don't know who willingly goes
- 6:58out to golf when it's like 112°. But no, no, it's a, it's a, it's
- 7:03a, it's a very breezy, brisk one, O 1, that's all.
- 7:08I bet you the humidity is still better out there than it is
- 7:10here, I can promise you that. The humidity was brutal, man.
- 7:14We were. This course had I don't know how
- 7:17many golf balls I lost. So many golf balls, so much
- 7:20water. Crazy.
- 7:23Anyway, 4. 50, Let's get into some stuff.
- 7:27Yeah. You ready to talk some ball?
- 7:31What? I mean, what a way to start it
- 7:33off here. Paul Skeens gets the nod for the
- 7:36All Star. Game starts for the National
- 7:39League. I put out AI put out like a
- 7:42reaction video very shortly after the news broke because I I
- 7:46and I even mentioned in the video I was like, I don't, I
- 7:49don't know how to act. And there's probably people that
- 7:51looked at that and were like, is it really worth getting all like
- 7:55this worked up over? It's just a it's just a start
- 7:57for the All Star game. But my whole point there in the
- 8:00video, I just talked about how so rarely as baseball fans do we
- 8:06get wins like this. The last the last one was like
- 8:10the Ohtani Trout match up, right.
- 8:13It's like in the WBC, which is an exhibition game.
- 8:15Like I know this is an exhibition game, but this is
- 8:17like front row dude, like against three guys that you
- 8:23can't wait to see him face. I love it.
- 8:25I'm exactly, I'm exactly. Don't apologize.
- 8:28Don't. Oh no, no, I'm not.
- 8:30I'm not apologizing. I'm just, I'm explaining to
- 8:32people kind of where my thought process was with that because
- 8:37it's it's as I was saying, it's so rare that we get wins like
- 8:40this where collectively, whether you're a National League fan, an
- 8:44American League fan, whether you like the pitch clock, whether
- 8:48you hate the pitch clock, whatever.
- 8:52Collectively, I think we could all look at this and go, we want
- 8:56Paul Skeens to start the All Star game.
- 8:58We want that thing and we got that thing.
- 9:01And as you kind of already touched on the names that he's
- 9:04going to go up presumably against that is if if Juan Soto
- 9:09doesn't get cut before the All Star game, 'cause you're talking
- 9:12about how he's just out of it physically right now we're
- 9:17talking about Gunner Henderson, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge.
- 9:23I mean this is like I'm going to try to choose my words carefully
- 9:28here, but like vibe wise, this kind of reminds me of like Pedro
- 9:3499 All Star game where it's like.
- 9:36Starting off with six KS. Paul Skeens has a long way to
- 9:39go, I understand that. But just in terms of like pure
- 9:43power going up against pure power, best of the best going up
- 9:46against the best of the best. And Paul Skeens right now is one
- 9:49of the better, if not the best pitcher or at least hottest
- 9:54pitcher in baseball right now. And I mean, this is just a huge,
- 10:00huge win. Yeah, 100 percent, 100% dude, I
- 10:04or do we know the lineups yet? They're not released yet, right?
- 10:10Like the start, you're just saying like the the batting.
- 10:12Order like the actual lineup? Yeah, I don't, I don't believe
- 10:15we have that as of that's of yet.
- 10:20Yeah, I mean, it's got to be Gunner.
- 10:21I don't know who else it would be at the top.
- 10:25Yeah, Soto and Judge is a no brainer.
- 10:28Yeah, it would have to be those three just in any, any
- 10:31particular order I guess. Good Lord, dude, that's going to
- 10:35be so good. But you're right.
- 10:36This is exactly what like every baseball fan would want to see.
- 10:40This is like the simulation, like the the match up you would
- 10:44want and when you play Diamond Dynasty and then we'll be the
- 10:47show. You know what I mean?
- 10:47Like this is exactly how you would want it.
- 10:52I think I have a conspiracy theory.
- 10:55Oh, what do you got? I'll have a good conspiracy.
- 10:58I think, I think Shelton got a call about Paul Skeens either
- 11:10the day before. You're talking about Lavallo?
- 11:14Yeah, no, maybe even higher up 'cause I know it's Lovello's
- 11:19decision, but I think there's, I think there's executives that
- 11:23are pushing this. I think I see, I think that
- 11:26there's like there's a narrative that like is like started to
- 11:30brew. And I think that it's gotten
- 11:32enough limelight and attention and, and I don't know if it's
- 11:36been trending in any way, but like there's a lot of people in
- 11:38our game talking about this. I think that there's some front
- 11:41office situation that is maybe mentioning that to Tori.
- 11:47I think there was a call to Shelton either the day before or
- 11:51day of Paul Skeens start and it was, hey, we've got something in
- 11:56mind next week. I think if you're comfortable
- 11:59with this, we'd like to give him the nod.
- 12:01I don't care if he's going out and throwing a no hitter.
- 12:04You need to pull him after 100. I think that's what occurred.
- 12:11And when you look at the conversation between Shelton and
- 12:15I know we're we're mainly about the the All Star game start
- 12:18right now, but this is the same story.
- 12:19Let's face it, it's within a week.
- 12:23I think if you watch how Shelton went and talked to him, did you
- 12:26notice that it was kind of in like the back tunnel away from
- 12:29the dugout? I feel like that conversation
- 12:33needed to be private. And something tells me that
- 12:36Shelton and Skeens probably knew, or at least Shelton knew.
- 12:45And I don't think you can say that.
- 12:47I don't think you can publicly admit that if you're Shelton, as
- 12:51much as you would want to, I don't think you can come out and
- 12:55say this is we're making a business decision for Major
- 12:59League Baseball and not about the Pirates winning a ball game.
- 13:03That's my theory. That's my conspiracy theory.
- 13:06I think that there was enough of a nudge and enough of a push to
- 13:09say, hey, Paul Skeens right now is bigger than the Pittsburgh
- 13:13Pirates 2024 season. MLB needs him to be healthy for
- 13:18this. We need this to happen.
- 13:21That's my theory and I think that no one is allowed to say
- 13:26it. And I think that maybe Skeens
- 13:29knew or maybe he found out when his day was done after 7 innings
- 13:35because don't tell me he's tired when he just made a six pitch
- 13:39inning to get through the 7th to get him to 100 pitches and it
- 13:43was weak contact the whole time. Don't tell me he's looking
- 13:46tired. These guys are barely just now
- 13:48catching up to glancing at his baseball.
- 13:52So it's like, I don't, I don't, I'm not buying it.
- 13:55I think Shelton new I'm blaying it on the table.
- 14:00Am I crazy to throw out the the idea that this all transpired
- 14:07very, very quickly? Like because I've, I feel like
- 14:10the national narrative for the longest time was that like
- 14:13there's, well, I say longest time relative to the the
- 14:18conversation building up about the All Star game.
- 14:21I feel like for the majority of that build up, the national
- 14:25narrative was that there's just no way you can start a guy who
- 14:28who missed the what, nearly two months of the season before
- 14:34before he made his debut. There's no way that you can
- 14:37start that guy in the All Star game, regardless how how well
- 14:40he's doing. But then I feel like it was
- 14:42probably this last week, because we we concluded this past week
- 14:47with with the news that he was going to get the he's going to
- 14:50get the start. I feel like it was all of last
- 14:53week where it was like, whoa, this is like a real, this is a
- 14:58real possibility. And he's, I would say in the
- 15:01clubhouse, he he might be even the leader in this conversation
- 15:04of who's who's getting the nod. And then all of a sudden the
- 15:07decision comes out that he is the starter.
- 15:09So to your point, I, I think people, more people knew than
- 15:15were being led on or LED. To believe me, I think there
- 15:17were more people that made that decision.
- 15:20And let's face it, let's freaking face it, this is MLB.
- 15:26This is this is their show. They run this week.
- 15:30They run everything that we have red carpet, you know, laid out
- 15:34for these guys. They're showing up.
- 15:36They're talking about what they're wearing.
- 15:38Like we're going on this level of like mass production
- 15:44marketing going on so many different sponsorships, so many
- 15:48different commercials, patches. Don't tell me that executives
- 15:56are just sitting back and saying, Lovello, you got this,
- 15:59make the right decision. There's no way.
- 16:03And you talk about Lovello, you talk about Shelton.
- 16:06Those are two old school baseball guys.
- 16:09Old school baseball guys do not choose rookies to start All Star
- 16:13games, especially rookies that missed the chunk of the season
- 16:17that didn't get called up. These guys are it's there's a
- 16:22respect level, there's a seniority amongst this
- 16:25brotherhood of players and there's an earn your stripes
- 16:30kind of mentality across the league.
- 16:33And I think Lavello and Shelton have been around a long time and
- 16:36they know that. And I don't think this decision
- 16:39was solely theirs or solely Tori's.
- 16:43I think it is 100% a narrative being pushed by front office or
- 16:48the MLB office or Manfred himself saying this is the
- 16:53opportunity of a lifetime. And it kind of is for this
- 16:58generation. Like you said, we haven't seen
- 17:00this stuff. Your your next closest thing you
- 17:02think of is Pedro. That's almost 20 years ago.
- 17:06No, it's over 20 years. That's a long time now. 25 years
- 17:10ago. That's, it's, that's insane to
- 17:13have like that moment that we can fall back on.
- 17:17I think there's a reason. I mean, I don't know, I we could
- 17:20go deeper. Soto is not healthy right now.
- 17:24When you're talking about a Yankee team who's willing to
- 17:26pull anybody off the field if they if they step incorrectly.
- 17:31Soto is is letting go of the bat after swings and obviously in
- 17:34pain. He's not sitting out.
- 17:37Then I don't know if that's a toughness thing or if that's
- 17:39like, bro, you're going to be a part of this insane moment for
- 17:44the All Star game. We're building this up, we're
- 17:46hyping this up. You're not going to miss that.
- 17:50That's my one step deeper. Maybe I'm going a little too far
- 17:52there, but at the very least I think the skeins thing isn't.
- 17:55I don't think it's that far stretched.
- 17:59Yeah, I feel like the the tinfoil hat might be a little
- 18:01too tight on the Soto bit, but I I I'm with you, I'm with you on
- 18:05the skeins thing. And who knows, like maybe it is
- 18:08maybe the Soto thing is possibility.
- 18:09I would venture or my guess is that that's probably not their
- 18:13priority. But if there is any truth to
- 18:16that, maybe they're looking at it being like, hey, we'll give
- 18:18you an AB like if if you still think about, think about.
- 18:22Think about 3 weeks ago when Soto and and maybe it wasn't 3
- 18:27weeks ago. Maybe it was a month ago, month
- 18:28and a half ago where Dodgers are in Yankee Stadium.
- 18:32Soto has a sore shoulder and he's he's missing the entire
- 18:37series. We're watching him physically
- 18:39struggle, holding on to a bat after a swing.
- 18:42I don't know. I don't know.
- 18:49I don't know if that, and I'm not saying he's weak.
- 18:51I'm I'm, I'm sure it's a mixture of toughness, but it could be a
- 18:57little MLB saying, hey, I need you, we need you, Baseball needs
- 19:01you. And this is the moment, if
- 19:05you've been glued to baseball this year at all, this is a
- 19:09moment that's going to be really cool to see.
- 19:14Yeah, I mean, you you mentioned the the Trout Otani AB in the
- 19:18World Baseball Classic. I mean, the I'm not personally,
- 19:21I'm not going to put this on that level because I I feel like
- 19:24that that might be that may go down as one of the the better at
- 19:28bats we'll ever see in our life. Like that's probably that's like
- 19:31bonds Gagnier level to me because it was it was.
- 19:35On. It was on like the literal
- 19:37global scale, so you could even make your argument that that was
- 19:40even bigger, but. That's a good comp.
- 19:43It's I, I don't know, like the it's B it's it's in line or it's
- 19:52in the conversation with the Trout Ohtani AB.
- 19:56But what's even better is that it's going to be elongated over
- 20:00the course of multiple at bats. Like we're not just going to say
- 20:03skeens versus judge or something or like this.
- 20:06Even the Skeens Ohtani AB, even though he he saw him multiple
- 20:10times during that start and. I think skeens blew him away one
- 20:14of the at bats and Ohtani took him deep the next one vice
- 20:17versa. But like this is going to be
- 20:20like AB after AB after AB. And if he who knows, like if he
- 20:24struggles a little bit, goes for sees a little bit further down
- 20:27the line in that lineup and maybe even sees more star power.
- 20:30It's it's going to be incredible.
- 20:33Do you do you to kind of put a bow on this?
- 20:35Do you have any predictions for how you think the the half
- 20:39inning is going to go? I think he gets two of the three
- 20:48dude. I'm I'm feeling a little saucy
- 20:51right now. You feeling all three?
- 20:52Dude, I, I think I could see it. I really could see it because
- 20:56this guy, if you watch Paul Skeens and if you saw the
- 21:00announcement and I'm, I'm sure it was super scripted and
- 21:03planned and staged and all that. But if you saw when he was on
- 21:05the Dan Patrick show and then Tori Lavallo just happens to
- 21:08call Dan Patrick. Yeah, Yeah.
- 21:10And. See.
- 21:11See, let's let's him know like, hey, just wanted to to jump into
- 21:14the conversation real quick to let you know Paul, that you're
- 21:17getting the start if you watch him receive that news that the
- 21:22kid is emotionless. Yeah.
- 21:24And like, there's personally, there's like a mild concern on,
- 21:28on my part that he's going to turn into like the Mike Trout
- 21:31type where it's just like, I'm, I'm really not.
- 21:34Interested in this? I'm just not interested in the
- 21:37the extracurricular shenanigans. I just want to go out there and
- 21:40dominate. I'm worried that we might be
- 21:42headed that direction, but I'm going to hold out hope.
- 21:44I'm going to hold out hope that that doesn't happen.
- 21:45The mustache makes you think. Maybe not.
- 21:48Yeah, I that's for the boys. That mustache is for the boys.
- 21:51But either way, I, I think, I think it's just really
- 21:55interesting to see at his being as young as he is and being as
- 22:00inexperienced as he is at the big league level.
- 22:04It's just crazy to me how, and I'm always about like
- 22:07equilibrium. I'm always about being even keel
- 22:10and taking note of which guys are able to have a low
- 22:14heartbeat. He's got that and it the moment
- 22:18just doesn't seem too too big for him and I I dude, I could
- 22:22see like A to make the comp one last time.
- 22:25I've I could see like a Pedro esque like K after K after K.
- 22:29I'm in. I can see it.
- 22:31Here's what I think. Here's my full prediction.
- 22:34I think it's Ki. Think it's a minimum seven pitch
- 22:39at at bat with Soto that ends in.
- 22:42A walk? That's fair, yeah.
- 22:43And then with a with a hardcore shuffle, hardcore stare down.
- 22:48Known walk merchant Juan Soto. Yes, yeah, and then probably AK
- 22:53by Judge, I think I don't know though Judge has been smoking
- 22:56hot for for this Oriole series. So maybe maybe that could that
- 23:02would be, I mean, Skeens and Judges is arguably the best at
- 23:09bad of the three. No, like I don't.
- 23:11I'm not disappointed with one and two.
- 23:13At all? No, no, no, no.
- 23:14But this is like where how they're going right now.
- 23:17They're they're the best too. Yeah, we're not crazy to say
- 23:20that. Of those of those matchups,
- 23:22yeah, Judge Skeens for sure. I think it's the fastball up and
- 23:26in that that judge is not going to be able to do anything with
- 23:30and the heart he's got that ridiculous slider that he's got.
- 23:35A judge is thinking from in here to down and away.
- 23:39You have to cover that. I just don't see that being a
- 23:42great match up for him, but I'd love to be wrong.
- 23:45And there's no doubt in my mind that that kids doing his
- 23:48homework because he recognizes the stage that he's he's been
- 23:52given and he does not want to disappoint.
- 23:54So you know he is looking to exploit and expose every one of
- 23:58those guys. Who would you go for, 456 saying
- 24:02or hoping? I hope he gets 2 innings, yeah.
- 24:06I need to look. Remind me, what do we got around
- 24:08the diamond again? I believe we have Vladdy at
- 24:16first, but I don't think he'll be. 4 adly behind the dish, I
- 24:20think. Maybe adly for J Ram 5, Vladdy
- 24:246. J Ram's in there.
- 24:30Were you like that or is adly too high?
- 24:36We got is your Don in that mix? Is your Don in that mix?
- 24:41I dude, I, I, I can't remember. I I can't keep the Yeah, didn't
- 24:49he? Be crazy to not be an All Star,
- 24:51right? Yeah.
- 24:52He was the he was like the DH. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:55OK. Sorry.
- 24:56I I have a hard time keeping the starters in.
- 24:59His lineup's absurd, bro. OK, so gunner starters in
- 25:03reserve separate judge your Don. Give me your Don Adly add J Ram.
- 25:11Yep, that's what I would say. No Dis, no disrespect to to add.
- 25:18We didn't include Adly in that mix, did we?
- 25:20Or did we? Yeah, I said Adly.
- 25:22I think adly 5 after your Don. Your Don Adly.
- 25:26And then J Ram and then Vlad 7. Oh, boy.
- 25:31I don't even know what's left for 8-9.
- 25:35Quan. Quan's going to be down there.
- 25:38Simeon's in there. Simeon.
- 25:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:43Whoa. Dude, I can't wait.
- 25:45Quan and Simeon 8-9 potentially. What is going on, Stephen?
- 25:50Quan is your 9 hitter. Unreal.
- 25:52Crazy night I I'm sorry I know there's bias attached here but I
- 25:56think anyone with a brain. It's not bias, it's it's in the
- 26:00numbers. Like the American League
- 26:02objectively is a better squad. We see this every year.
- 26:05All see this. There's no doubt in my mind.
- 26:10Good about it. Speaking of the AL, let's switch
- 26:12gears here. The Royals going and snatching
- 26:16up Hunter Harvey from the Nationals.
- 26:20I I really like this move and I know.
- 26:24You've been, you've been on the Royals for a minute, so you, you
- 26:26send it here. I know on the surface it doesn't
- 26:29look great. In 43 games, Harvey is 2 and
- 26:32four with a 420. He struck out fifty and walked
- 26:35twelve across 45 innings. He does offer the flexibility of
- 26:42sliding into that closer roll, which I'll be quite honest with
- 26:48you, James MacArthur as the current closer for the Royals.
- 26:54No disrespect. No disrespect, but like could
- 26:58maybe benefit from having a little bit of help, a little bit
- 27:01of depth in that closer by committee conversation if it if
- 27:05it gets to that point. But I just like I really like
- 27:09this. Hunter Harvey.
- 27:10If you've been following the names floating around the trade
- 27:13deadline, this was a guy whose name was surfaced at the top for
- 27:17many of these conversations and the Royals didn't wait around.
- 27:20The Royals identified a guy that they wanted to go and snatch up
- 27:25to help their bullpen because their bullpens been terrible.
- 27:27I think I read that they ranked like 21st in all of baseball.
- 27:34Like not good, regardless where they fall numbers wise, not
- 27:39good. So they they went in, snatched
- 27:44up Harvey. And I think this is one of those
- 27:47low. It's not going to, it's not
- 27:49going to be on the front page of MLB.com necessarily.
- 27:55And it may not even be a a move that they look back on in
- 27:58November and go that's what that's what saved our season.
- 28:01But it's going to be a move, in my opinion, that will help
- 28:05solidify their progress and their efforts into securing a
- 28:11wild card spot. I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm
- 28:15going to fill in the gaps of what you're saying and support
- 28:18your statements here. I think what this shows to your
- 28:26team, your clubhouse, your fans is saying, I do believe that we
- 28:32can do this. I do believe that we can be last
- 28:34year's Diamondbacks. We may not dominate, we may not
- 28:37go win this division, but I do believe if we can bulk up enough
- 28:41and make a run, we got a chance. And I think what this does is it
- 28:46says we're one of the first teams to make a move before this
- 28:49deadline with a lot of rumors going around, a lot happening.
- 28:53We're going to do this before the All Star game, beat everyone
- 28:56to the punch because everyone's going to be talking.
- 28:59You're going to see MLB execs having conversations during this
- 29:02week. There's this isn't a full on
- 29:05break. If anything, the front offices
- 29:06are going to be working harder this week.
- 29:09So for the Royals to say, let's go, this isn't the move.
- 29:15This isn't the move that pushes him over the top.
- 29:18You're saying that and I agree, it's a move.
- 29:22I think it does well for them. It gives them depth and it and
- 29:24it is making an effort to plug a hole that's there.
- 29:28And now we're going to see hopefully a little bit of a
- 29:33domino effect to get this market going and for the for the Royals
- 29:37to be like, you know what, we'll take that first one.
- 29:40We'll be that first guy through the wall.
- 29:42Sounds good. Let's roll.
- 29:44So I'm excited. I'm excited for what they got
- 29:47going. I'm with you.
- 29:51I've been been on the Royals all season.
- 29:54You have. You sure have since the
- 29:55offseason. To your point, this is.
- 29:58This is a step that proves that stay in the American League,
- 30:05Orioles and Yankees. What a wild.
- 30:08Weekend of baseball. Wow, wow.
- 30:09Wow, wow, wow, wow. I want to, I want to flip it to
- 30:13you, though, to talk about was that Friday night's game?
- 30:19Yep, with the the rain and the hit by pitch and all that.
- 30:25What, what do you make of of the benches clearing and Brandon
- 30:30Hyde? I mean, I, I know you shared
- 30:31your thoughts in the heat of the moment, but now that you've had
- 30:33maybe some time to think on a little bit more, think a little
- 30:36bit more about this rivalry that's maybe brewing a little
- 30:39bit. I mean, I think it's been
- 30:40brewing for some time. Like inner division rivals.
- 30:42I I get all that, but like, I think there's a little bit more
- 30:45juice to the Yankees and O's that maybe people are given
- 30:48credit for. I think this is giving me like 4
- 30:52years ago. Yankees raise when CC's that's
- 30:57for you B dog. And then you know, like
- 31:01obviously old school Yankees Red Sox is kind of unreachable at
- 31:05this point with any other rivals.
- 31:06But it gives me that kind of energy around Friday night.
- 31:12First off, Clay Holmes being an All Star is kind of a joke, and
- 31:19I think there's a lot of Yankees fans that agree because of what
- 31:22we've seen for like the last six weeks from him.
- 31:26This man is deer in headlights. This man's heart is pounding out
- 31:30of his chest. He does not have a slow
- 31:33heartbeat. He is not calm, and when he is
- 31:35on the mound, there's big question marks.
- 31:41It's almost like this underlying, no disrespect here,
- 31:45but this underlying, we still have a chance because Craig
- 31:48Kimbrel's on the other side of this.
- 31:50That's the vibe I'm getting with Clay Holmes during this stretch.
- 31:54OK, Combine that with rain. Combine that with a three run
- 32:00lead. Combine that with the division
- 32:03on the line. Not really, but kinda as a
- 32:06statement to your fan base after an abysmal July and half of
- 32:13June. There's no intent here.
- 32:19There's absolutely 0 intent. Here's where things are being
- 32:24other side of fence, specifically, specifically on
- 32:27Twitter. Orioles fans and Yankees fans
- 32:29are going just all over each other right now.
- 32:37Contact is made with the ear hole.
- 32:40OK, goes down. Clay's walking up to apologize.
- 32:45Because let's face it, if you're a Yankee fan in any way, you can
- 32:49all support me here by saying Clay Holmes is probably the
- 32:53nicest dude in that clubhouse. As far as like timid, I would
- 32:59never talk and scream and get in your face.
- 33:01That would it's he's the last guy.
- 33:04That man is basically an accountant in a in a Yu.
- 33:08With a sounds like a dirty sinker.
- 33:10Sounds like a great approach for a closer but but continue.
- 33:13So there's no intent. He's walking up, he's trying to
- 33:17apologize. Brandon Hyde is brushing off
- 33:21chirping and talking through Austin Wells.
- 33:24And Austin Wells is like, bro, do the math here.
- 33:27What do you? What's the deal?
- 33:29Yes, this sucks. Yes, this is never wanted, but
- 33:33it is a part of our game. That's the internal thought
- 33:36going around here. Brandon Hyde's chirping and
- 33:40where he responds is because the Yankee dugout is like, bro,
- 33:45like, don't brush off our guy. Like he's trying to apologize.
- 33:49Like there's no intent. Like, relax.
- 33:52And then Brandon Hyde just goes zero to 60 in no second, no time
- 33:57at all. And and throwing, you know,
- 34:00whatever he needs to throw at that dugout that is manufactured
- 34:06by a manager who is feeling heat from his fan base for the way
- 34:11the Orioles have been playing for the last few weeks.
- 34:14Oh, I'm tired of hearing about that that.
- 34:16Man is feeling heat. Whether it's whether it's
- 34:22correct or incorrect to feel that heat, that's up to you and
- 34:26your organization. Baltimore, I think they're fine.
- 34:30I think they're absolutely fine. Yes, they're fine.
- 34:34There's nothing to worry about if you're Brandon Hyde.
- 34:36Oh, I've said this for like the last year.
- 34:38The Oreos get a little taste of of success, which I love, by the
- 34:42way. Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 34:43I. Grew up there like we're not as
- 34:46much as I want to hate the Oreos Oh my gosh, their fan base is
- 34:50starting to get crazy, but they're.
- 34:52Losing their minds, they get a little taste of success and they
- 34:54don't know how to act. They think that they're I'm
- 34:58looking at it right now with today's win, which we'll touch
- 35:00on here just in a moment with the with today's win, they're
- 35:03three and seven in their last ten.
- 35:04You're still 20 games over 500. Relax.
- 35:09You're fine. And I know our I know our good
- 35:11our good buddy Ryan Ripken, that's like his go to thing
- 35:14after we're fine. Those are fine, just a
- 35:17deprecating loss. Listen to him, please.
- 35:20I would venture to say he he he has a a good pulse on on the
- 35:24team. That's just a guess it maybe,
- 35:26maybe it's like a family thing. I don't know.
- 35:27I don't know, Maybe if there's like a connection, a deeper
- 35:29connection to the? Team there.
- 35:30I don't think this is just blind faith.
- 35:33I think he understands baseball. He needs talking to a lot of
- 35:36those guys. He's friends with a lot of those
- 35:38guys. Yeah, I trust him.
- 35:40I hear the I hear the Ripken's are like somewhat connected to
- 35:43the OS. I, I don't, I can't confirm,
- 35:45don't know maybe, but you're 20 games over 500.
- 35:49Like, let's relax. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:54The fan base is getting to there's.
- 35:56There's some. I'm not going to say all.
- 35:58I'm not going to generalize because I'd like to think I'm
- 36:01not a part of the majority when it comes to judging Yankee fans.
- 36:04I'd like to think I'm the exception.
- 36:06So I'm not going to sit here and say every Oriole fan is this
- 36:09way. But what I'm saying is that like
- 36:12you're creeping into territory you don't want to be in when you
- 36:16get your first ring with this core, with this roster, you can
- 36:20be this loud, you can be this demanding, you can be this
- 36:23critical because you've earned it.
- 36:25At that point, you're you have all the tools, everything set.
- 36:31There may be three moves in the trade, in the trade deadline to
- 36:37being complete. That's my genuine opinion.
- 36:41There are three moves away from being very solid and very
- 36:46promising. That's a starter.
- 36:49Some relief depth, maybe two relief depth pieces and then
- 36:55you're I don't, I, it's I'm not. Worried you have a positional
- 36:58logjam? Yeah, you, you.
- 37:00You don't need to. Add the line up's fine, the
- 37:02defense is fine, it's just a little bit of pitching depth and
- 37:06you're fine. So getting back to this series,
- 37:13getting back to this situation, I think Hyde manufactured this.
- 37:16I think he's sweating it a little bit.
- 37:17I don't know why. I don't know why the fan base is
- 37:20so mean to him. He's doing a fine job.
- 37:23I think he's doing great. I think they're doing great.
- 37:26I think it's been a tough skid, which every team has.
- 37:31I think that he just kind of lost his cool for a SEC, and
- 37:36it's very easy. It's very easy.
- 37:40The Orioles fans don't like Yankee fans.
- 37:42No one really likes Yankee fans. No one likes the Yankees.
- 37:46That's OK, That's fine. I just think it was a little
- 37:50over the top and there was no math being done.
- 37:52I think the moment just got a little too fast for him.
- 37:55That's what I genuinely think. Yeah, I mean, anybody would
- 38:00lose, would, would lose their cool if you had like 2530
- 38:04thousand people behind you. You see them all starting to
- 38:07stand up. You you feel the tension arise a
- 38:09little bit. OK, I'm going to let it eat.
- 38:11Yeah, I think he's in in. Was it spark for the team?
- 38:17Maybe. Was that what the the intent
- 38:20was? Maybe that's what he was trying
- 38:21to do. You know, guys get tossed.
- 38:24Guys get tossed on purpose sometimes.
- 38:26Old school managers did it all the time.
- 38:29I think guys do it less now, but when you're feeling desperate
- 38:32after a couple like bad weeks, you're like, you know what,
- 38:35let's shake things up. You know what I mean?
- 38:37And I think that's what he did. I just think it was poor timing.
- 38:40I think it was unnecessary. And I felt good about the
- 38:46Yankees, where they were at with the whole situation, and I felt
- 38:51good about what they did the next day.
- 38:54Today, on the other hand. Yeah, let's talk about that.
- 38:57What an ending to a very entertaining finale.
- 39:06You got the bases loaded, two out.
- 39:08Seti Mullen steps to the plate in the bottom of the ninth Clay
- 39:11home. None other than Clay Holmes
- 39:13steps to the OR on the bump. Seti Mullen steps up hits about
- 39:19as routine of a can of corn as you can.
- 39:23Alex Verdugo Dog Self-proclaimed dog comes charging in, realizes
- 39:30he's made the mistake of his life.
- 39:32Turns around, tries to make up ground, slips, falls, loses the
- 39:37ball, loses the game. Ugly.
- 39:40I love it. Super ugly, super embarrassing.
- 39:43I think that's what, like, sucks most about this.
- 39:46Is that like everyone's just going to sit on that moment for
- 39:50five days? Good.
- 39:52That's tough. I felt great about like it's in
- 39:55reality, like you look at that series, you're like good series.
- 39:58You won the series. We should feel good about this.
- 40:03It's the way this Yankees team loses that's just so low at
- 40:07times. It's such a gut punch.
- 40:11And as much as I want to sit here and be like Verdugo, this
- 40:14is entirely on you. Clay Holmes had two walks.
- 40:19This can't continue to happen. This team that like is meant and
- 40:23paid to perform can't continue to do this kind of stuff.
- 40:27The lows can't be this low. And it is literally just Judge
- 40:31and Soto. This team is Judge Soto.
- 40:34And I would say great coaching skills from from our ace Garrett
- 40:40Cole. That's about it.
- 40:42I don't know how else they're they're in this position.
- 40:45I have no idea how this Yankees team is just a game back from
- 40:48the Orioles. So I would consider this a very
- 40:52high note for the Baltimore Orioles to go into the break,
- 40:54even though that you lost that series, even though there's a
- 40:56lot of emotion that you left on the field.
- 40:59I would be, I would rather be an O's fan in this position right
- 41:02now than I would be a Yankees fan even after winning the
- 41:04series. And you're just soaking up all
- 41:10the Verdugo nonsense. The guy's a chump, dude.
- 41:15You type in, you type in Verdugo on Twitter.
- 41:17And I know Twitter can be a cesspool at times, but it's
- 41:20hilarious seeing how quickly these people are turning on
- 41:23Verdugo and you just wait. Well, I don't want to open this
- 41:27can of worms but. This if he chirps back.
- 41:30What they're no, no, no. What I was going to say is what
- 41:32they're doing to Verdugo is what I thought was going to happen
- 41:36with Stroman by this point in the year.
- 41:38But Stroman's still kind of laying low, at least from what I
- 41:41can tell. Yelled at yelled at Glaber the
- 41:44other day, which was wild. Yeah.
- 41:45They're they're they're turning on Verdugo and I, I, I knew this
- 41:49was going to happen and I said it, you can go back and check.
- 41:52I said this was going to happen and it's just, it's nice to nice
- 41:55to see it come to fruition because the guy's the guy's a
- 41:57chump. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I look like
- 42:00I I'm not going to sit here and have blind faith and, and
- 42:05immediately be OK with guys like I for me.
- 42:10Like there's there's guys on this team that I support because
- 42:13they've kind of earned that role.
- 42:14They've earned that spot. And for like you to just come in
- 42:17and be loud and just say like, Hey, you know, I think I am here
- 42:22because I wasn't wanted over there and now I get to be me.
- 42:25Like, how about we just be a little bit quieter?
- 42:28How about we just kind of fill the role, focus on filling the
- 42:33role well. And maybe at a certain point
- 42:37you'll be like a true accepted Yankee.
- 42:40So that's that's where I'm at with Verdugo.
- 42:42So I don't hate the I don't hate the words.
- 42:45I'm I don't fully disagree with the words.
- 42:49I'm just ready to see, like, can you turn a corner or is this
- 42:54going to just put you in in the grave for the rest of the year?
- 42:59Yeah, no. Let's talk about Reese Hines,
- 43:05bro. What an insane start for the
- 43:10rookie outfielder entering today, Sunday.
- 43:13Five home runs in his first six games.
- 43:18What is happening? Entering Sunday, 11 for 23 with
- 43:22three double s, a 555 homers, seven runs scored and 11 RB is
- 43:28and slashing 520-4565 and 1476. For those of you doing the math
- 43:34at home, that's a 2032 OPS. Bro, that swing plays, That
- 43:43swing plays. Bro, how big is this guy?
- 43:51He fills out a uniform. You know what I mean?
- 43:55Not to be weird about this, but like I you hear like Mark DeRosa
- 43:59talk about how a guy just looks like a ball player. 64215 he's
- 44:05listed. That's the exact size I always
- 44:08choose for my guy when I play third base in MLB The Show.
- 44:11That's the dream size. My man is built like a
- 44:13superhero. 2:15 According to Sarah Lang's, his nine extra
- 44:19base hits in his first six games are two more than any other
- 44:24player in MLB's modern era and since 19 O one.
- 44:28And the the swag is the swag is just next level for me.
- 44:33I'm a big fan. I've only seen numbers I've only
- 44:39like read and and seen numbers like I haven't actually seen.
- 44:43I mean, he's been up for maybe a cup of coffee.
- 44:47Like all of this has happened in such a short period of time that
- 44:51I would venture to say there's probably still people that
- 44:53haven't quite caught wind of this guy yet.
- 44:57I'm I'm impressed. I am impressed.
- 45:06This is tough. Codify total bases in MLB games
- 45:12in 2024 Reese Reese, Hines through five games, 31 total
- 45:17bases. Martin Maldonado 48 games, 31
- 45:23total bases. Just catching a random.
- 45:26Yeah, no need for the strays. No need for the strays.
- 45:30None of that. Speaking of which, the White
- 45:32Sox, in case anybody's wondering, currently 27 and 70.
- 45:36That's crazy dude. They might lose 120 games bro.
- 45:42They're going to sell off. That's like, it's going to get
- 45:45worse. That is unbelievable.
- 45:50Forgive me, where is Heinz play? He's in outfield, Yeah.
- 45:56Yep, Yep. The talent, man.
- 45:59The talent. Baseball's crazy right now.
- 46:04Another Another guy worth noting Trey Turner entering Sunday, not
- 46:12nearly the same as Heinz 2032 OPS during that stretch that he
- 46:18went on, but in the month of July since July 1st entering
- 46:23Sunday, Trey Turner Sportin and OPS of 1264 with seven home runs
- 46:29and seventeen RB is he has 8 homers in his last 12 games and
- 46:32I think that includes yeah, that includes today's home run and I
- 46:37don't know what he's done in his last couple ABS to close out the
- 46:40game. I know that the Phillies just
- 46:42got waxed. I don't.
- 46:44I don't know if you saw that by the A's I.
- 46:47Was on the course really waxed dude bad.
- 46:51One I need to pull it up just to make sure I got the numbers
- 46:53right. 18 to 3. Oh. 18 to 3:00 to go into the
- 46:59break for the Phills. What?
- 47:00Excuse me? What a rough, what a rough way
- 47:03to close out. No, but yeah, I, I think he
- 47:11including today's home run, yeah, that gives him 8 homers in
- 47:13his last 12 games. As we all know, Trey Turner
- 47:17missed nearly 40 games. But I think if we had a healthy
- 47:21Trey Turner with the way he's hitting right now coming off the
- 47:24IL. That's what I would like to ask
- 47:26you. That's what I would like to ask
- 47:28you. He would be in the conversation.
- 47:31We talked about maybe not being a huge fan of Trey Turner, being
- 47:36an All Star. Do we need to issue an apology
- 47:40or are we in the right still? No, we're absolutely in the
- 47:44right. The the sample size was not was
- 47:46not large enough. But that's that's sort of my
- 47:49point. That's sort of what I'm getting
- 47:50at is what he's done as of late. It makes you wonder like if you
- 47:56extrapolate that over the course of the, the full amount of games
- 48:00that we've played or that we've witnessed thus far across
- 48:03baseball, if he was a part of that mix the entire time, where
- 48:07does he stand? He's certainly an All Star, but
- 48:10like, is he? And that's that's what I was
- 48:12mentioning earlier, like is he in the conversation for MVP?
- 48:15Certainly not the front runner, but like, is he at least in the
- 48:18conversation with this, with this kind of tear that he's on?
- 48:25I think I think I heard something.
- 48:28Where was it? Was it on the Phillies
- 48:30broadcast? I, I was watching Phillies game
- 48:34the other day or maybe this weekend and I think somebody can
- 48:38check me on this, but I'm pretty sure I heard somebody say that
- 48:41since the standing ovation dating back to last year, I want
- 48:46to say nobody's had a higher batting average than Trey Turner
- 48:50in that span. And I know batting average who
- 48:53cares for most people, not us, not not me, but some people have
- 48:58that feeling. But like, that just speaks to
- 49:02where Trey Turner fits into the conversation that I think a lot
- 49:06of people are having and saying that this isn't a good contract.
- 49:12And how people are still saying that in the summer of 2024 is
- 49:18beyond me. But the fact that he's done,
- 49:22he's put up the numbers and he's he's produced to the point that
- 49:26he has in just a small period of time says a lot about what he
- 49:30is. One ring.
- 49:32That's all it'll take. That's all it takes.
- 49:34Jimmy Rollins is loved there. One ring, one ring, and that man
- 49:42is in Philly. Immortality, ring of fame.
- 49:50That's all. That's all they need.
- 49:54Bryce. He needs 2.
- 49:58Great with one. They're OK with one, but he
- 50:01needs to to be like I am the Phillies, you know what I'm
- 50:06saying? I don't know.
- 50:10I don't think Bryce has crossed over the.
- 50:15I don't think he's, I could be wrong.
- 50:19Philly fans, if you're here, pop in the chat.
- 50:21I don't know if he's gotten into Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy
- 50:32Rollins territory yet. I I well yet is a different
- 50:37conversation, but I I think he will.
- 50:40I'm saying if you want to ring, I think he's still in that he's
- 50:43still in that mix. Yeah, I don't know, because.
- 50:47No, because think about it for as long like you got to remember
- 50:52Bryce Art, like I swear it seems like yesterday he just made his
- 50:55debut. He's been playing now for, what,
- 50:57a dozen years? That's crazy to say out loud.
- 51:03That can't be right, is it? 2012 and a rookie of the year,
- 51:06if I'm not mistaken, He's been playing a he's been playing a
- 51:09dozen years. Why did you have to say a dozen
- 51:11like that? Everything that he's
- 51:13accomplished into his in his career to this point, because
- 51:17assuming he finishes out his time in Philly, he, he's like,
- 51:24Philly fans are going to be able to, to, to claim everything that
- 51:27he accomplished even in like, even in DC, like just like the,
- 51:32the resume that he's built, they're going to be able to just
- 51:34claim all of it because he's going to end up being in Philly
- 51:37for what, a a dozen years, 13. What's the comp?
- 51:43What's the comp in history like? Are you saying?
- 51:47Are you saying is Bonds crazy? Is Bonds a crazy comp?
- 51:53As far as not numbers, not stats, not not status or or
- 51:58whatever records, I don't care about any of that.
- 52:01I'm strictly talking about the Pirates have no claim to Bonds,
- 52:06it's only Giants. The Nationals have no claim to
- 52:11Harper, it's only the Phillies. Is that the comp?
- 52:18Yeah, but I, I think, I think. I think he will be there.
- 52:22I just, I think there's more pressure to him needing I, I
- 52:26think he needs more than one. I think he needs more than one
- 52:29to be like, you know what, dude, we spent all this money we
- 52:32committed you for this long because you have been talked
- 52:36about being the greatest baseball player on the planet
- 52:38since you were 16. And that's still a factor.
- 52:42I think that's still in play here.
- 52:45I think Trey Turner is going to potentially be a Hall of Famer
- 52:48when he's done. And one ring is going to lock
- 52:50him into lock him into like. You said Philly's immortality.
- 52:57Why does that not apply to Bryce Harper?
- 53:00I think Philly immortality is it's it's just different bro.
- 53:04I feel like it's like I need you to be Bryce Harper didn't have
- 53:09the come up, doesn't have the ceiling of Utley, Ryan Howard,
- 53:13Jimmy Rollins, you know, like Mike Schmidt is still Mr. Philly
- 53:18in my mind, right? I think that's I think that's
- 53:22very fair to say. So if you want to be Mr. Philly,
- 53:26we need more than one. That's just I think he'll be
- 53:30beloved, I think. But there's going to be a lot of
- 53:33fans that are like, you know, that's a long time.
- 53:37That's a long time to only get us.
- 53:39One, I don't know. You want to talk comps, look at,
- 53:42look at no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 53:44No, I got. 4 gold No no no. I got a better comp for you.
- 53:47Look at former teammate of of Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman.
- 53:53Look at the timing of where that ring fell in his career.
- 53:57With every year that passes that Harper does not get a ring, we
- 54:01can only I say we, I know a lot of people can't stand the guy,
- 54:06but a lot of baseball fans can only hope that Harper at one
- 54:10point or another gets a ring. Every year that passes that he
- 54:13doesn't get that ring, he gets closer to retirement.
- 54:16Obviously that's how time works. If he gets closer to the end of
- 54:20his career and he gets that one that he's been, he probably
- 54:25wouldn't tell you that that's like the only thing he's worried
- 54:28about. I mean, he's he's he's tells
- 54:30Philly fans that that's what he wants, but we don't know exactly
- 54:34what his priorities are like what he's trying to achieve in
- 54:36his career. But if he gets that one that
- 54:39he's been chasing and he's all he's on the back end of his
- 54:44career, I think that seals it for him.
- 54:47Like that's all he needs. If he if they go out and win it
- 54:49this year and then for the remainder of his career goes
- 54:53ringless, then I can hear your argument for maybe needing more
- 54:57than one because it's like, dude, what did you do for the
- 54:59last? So you're saying when that one
- 55:01happens, when that one it all? It's all based on the timing.
- 55:04It's all based. On I think, I think the Ryan
- 55:06Zimmerman comp is tough because there's some charm for you.
- 55:09Sticking it out through a garbage ball club for 2/3 of
- 55:13your career there, there's some charm around you.
- 55:17There's there's charm around Todd Hilton, there's charm
- 55:19around guys that are lifers that you like, went through the dog
- 55:23days to get here. I think there's immediate
- 55:26pressure from from Harper the second he got to Philly and it's
- 55:32and it's not just one ring. I think that would be considered
- 55:36a failure. I really do and I don't, I
- 55:39don't. It's not up to me.
- 55:41He's still going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 55:42Philly fans are still going to love him.
- 55:44He's still going to perform. That's all fine and dandy, but I
- 55:47I think he he won't be. I think there's immortality and
- 55:54then there's Mike Schmidt level. And I don't think he's going to
- 55:57be Mike, Mike Schmidt level. I don't think he'll take over as
- 56:01Mr. Philly if he only gets one. I think the the garbage team
- 56:08with the Ryan Zimmerman conversations a little unfair.
- 56:11Like they were a four time division winning team during his
- 56:15time. They weren't exactly schmucks,
- 56:17no, but going back to that comp with Zimmerman, he, he was quite
- 56:25literally at the end of his career when they when they
- 56:28pulled that off or just about. He also started the organization
- 56:33though, so that's a tough comp. I I get that.
- 56:35No, I'm, I'm really talking about the time, how late, how
- 56:38late a ring can be. Even though he wasn't like peak
- 56:42Ryan Zimmerman, what's the conversation around Ryan
- 56:45Zimmerman, World Series champion forever?
- 56:47Nobody's going to take that away from him.
- 56:49The same thing to me is if that if, if something similar happens
- 56:53with Harper, that's going to be the conversation around him.
- 56:57He got the ring. He he reached the mountain top
- 57:00World Series champion forever. Would would he like more than
- 57:03one? Absolutely.
- 57:04Would Philly's fans like more than one?
- 57:05Absolutely. But for me, I think one locks it
- 57:08in for him. I'd, I'd really be curious to
- 57:11see what Yankee fans or, excuse me, Philly fans would say, be
- 57:15really curious. I.
- 57:17Don't know, I didn't think we'd be talking about Harper's legacy
- 57:20on this podcast, but whatever. Talking about a guy that's going
- 57:24to be sticking around with a team for a long time.
- 57:26Yoshinobu Yamamoto placed moved to the 60 day IL so he won't be
- 57:32eligible to be back until the middle.
- 57:35Honestly, looking at the calendar little over a month,
- 57:39you won't be eligible to return before August 16th.
- 57:42So give or take a month from now, just another, you know,
- 57:49just another gut punch. And then on the flip side, are
- 57:55kind of in the same vein of gut punches for the rotation Dustin
- 57:59May with. One of the fill me in here.
- 58:03What's going on? One of the more wild injury
- 58:07headlines you'll probably ever hear will miss the remainder of
- 58:10the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn
- 58:16esophagus. What?
- 58:23My, my. That's the.
- 58:24Thing in your throat, right? Correct.
- 58:28Did he yell too much? The report that I'm reading says
- 58:32the injury, sources said, first appeared during a dinner and
- 58:36required intervention after May sought attention the next day
- 58:39for pain in his throat and stomach.
- 58:41May I? Think he was like choking on
- 58:43something at dinner? That's scary.
- 58:46Well, it said he sought attention the next day for pain
- 58:49in his throat and stomach. Medical personnel diagnosed the
- 58:52tear in May's throat and acted quickly.
- 58:55May is expected to make a full recovery.
- 58:57That's good, but that's that could be scary like I that could
- 59:00be like that. If he's choking in like a
- 59:03Heimlich move need to be made like that would be terrible.
- 59:07I mean, he was getting dragged on social, as you would expect,
- 59:10because it's just such a bizarre thing.
- 59:12But like, I'm not thing, I'm not going to sit here and and, and
- 59:16bring light to that because I'm like that.
- 59:19That's that's scary. Man, like that?
- 59:21Yeah. Yeah, You're like, that's wild.
- 59:24Your moments were like if if there was something lodged or
- 59:28like there was some sort of maneuver that had to take place,
- 59:30like you're, you're moments away from.
- 59:34Yeah, not a very good ending. That's scary.
- 59:37That's a scary, scary thing. But yeah, All in all though.
- 59:41Some fans suck man. Like we don't know the story,
- 59:43just they're human beings, jeez. Yeah, All in all, just a weird,
- 59:49or I shouldn't say weird, just another unfortunate blow.
- 59:53What was his? Timetable Was he set to be back
- 59:56He. Was set to return like later
- 1:00:00this year I believe. I want to say August maybe?
- 1:00:04Dang. I want to, yeah, I want to say
- 1:00:06like at some point in August, but yeah, just another another
- 1:00:13guy that you're going to have to.
- 1:00:14That's tough. That's true.
- 1:00:16That's real tough. Cross off the list.
- 1:00:18Yeah, I don't know. What was it a week ago I said
- 1:00:23don't stress if you're a Dodger fan.
- 1:00:25I don't know. I mean, Yamamoto's going to get
- 1:00:32sit, what, 6-7 starts if he's back on time before the
- 1:00:37postseason? Oh, you're saying when he's
- 1:00:42back? Yeah.
- 1:00:52Weird question. 6:00 to 8:00. Weird question, am I stupid for
- 1:00:56asking this? Can you do you?
- 1:01:01You could do rehab starts on the IO right in in AAA.
- 1:01:08You're saying like in an official capacity, not like side
- 1:01:11sessions? Yeah, am I an idiot?
- 1:01:14Yeah, no, yeah, yeah. Because then you get, you get
- 1:01:17recalled from the IL once you're set and you make the yeah, you
- 1:01:20make your turn to the rotation. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:23OK, yeah, give enough time to ramp back up.
- 1:01:27That's 6-7 starts. Yeah, yeah, you're yeah, you're
- 1:01:33good. Sucks.
- 1:01:34Look, we're we, I I would love to get over this hurdle.
- 1:01:38I would love to get over this hurdle of what Japanese pitchers
- 1:01:40mean in American baseball. I'd really like to for this,
- 1:01:45this streak to end of like, when, not if, when is the
- 1:01:51injury? Not if, you know what I mean.
- 1:01:52Like, when are those days going to be done?
- 1:01:56So I do feel bad for that. But whatever, It's the Dodgers,
- 1:02:01you know, we're not allowed to feel that bad for him.
- 1:02:04This goes back to what I said. Except Dustin May I feel bad for
- 1:02:07him. Yeah, that's that's tough.
- 1:02:13No, this goes back to what I was saying to start the season.
- 1:02:16I said it your you have lost your mind if you think that this
- 1:02:21is going to be a cakewalk to the World Series for the Dodgers,
- 1:02:24because stuff like this inevitably happens without fail
- 1:02:28every single year. Doesn't matter what team,
- 1:02:31doesn't matter what rotation, doesn't matter what line up.
- 1:02:34These kinds of things happen. To what degree they happen,
- 1:02:37that's a different conversation. But these things happen, and it
- 1:02:41doesn't matter how many games you were expected to win your
- 1:02:45division by or how much of A landslide is it's expected to
- 1:02:48be. These things happen.
- 1:02:51And rarely does the best team on paper to start the season run
- 1:02:56the table. We rarely see that.
- 1:02:59It happens, but we rarely see it.
- 1:03:02And I just feel like the expectations come for the
- 1:03:04Dodgers as the best team in baseball were, were even greater
- 1:03:09than. And, and I know I, I make the,
- 1:03:12the call back to the 2018 Red Sox, who were just the best team
- 1:03:16in baseball. They for all intents and
- 1:03:19purposes, ran the table. I mean, best, arguably the best
- 1:03:22team in franchise history. The, the expectations for the
- 1:03:272018 Red Sox are not the same as the expectations for the 2024
- 1:03:33Dodgers. And I just think those they're,
- 1:03:36they're crumbling a little bit under the pressure that they're
- 1:03:41facing. Dave.
- 1:03:42Dave Roberts has been on the hot seat for what seems like the
- 1:03:44better half of a decade. I agree.
- 1:03:47So I'm not, I'm not writing them off.
- 1:03:50In no way am I writing off the Dodgers, I think.
- 1:03:52That would be silly. This is like we're just seeing
- 1:03:55it play out that they're just not going to cakewalk to the
- 1:03:58World Series. I think, you know, I don't, I
- 1:04:01don't know how far down this path we want to go.
- 1:04:04But like I think between revenue sharing and the expansion of
- 1:04:09postseason teams getting in, I think baseball as a league wide
- 1:04:15is more competitive than it's ever been.
- 1:04:17And how deep we are in analytics and how calculated every, every
- 1:04:23decision is made in our game. At this point, I think baseball
- 1:04:27is as as competitive as we've ever seen.
- 1:04:32So like, you know, the Mariners in the early 2000s or the
- 1:04:36Yankees in 98. I, I don't foresee things like
- 1:04:41that ever really happening again.
- 1:04:43I, I, I think that's a once in every 30 or 40 years kind of
- 1:04:47thing moving forward. I think baseball is very even
- 1:04:51even it's an even playing field more than it's ever been.
- 1:04:54Don't get me wrong. You still have your your
- 1:04:57Rockies, you still have your As and your Marlins and your teams
- 1:05:01that are kind of just picking up the scraps and in a weird place.
- 1:05:04But overall, like when you look at how good every team can be if
- 1:05:11their guys are rolling, I think baseball is more competitive
- 1:05:15than ever. So I think our expectations are
- 1:05:19just a little weird when it comes to them, but they kind of
- 1:05:23bring it on themselves in a way. It's LA.
- 1:05:34If you could, if you could share A1 sentence thought on the news
- 1:05:41of Dallas Keichel being DFA today, what would that sentence
- 1:05:46be? That sentence would be.
- 1:05:56And I'm going to fill, I'm going to fill the role of high school
- 1:05:59English teacher and I'm going to give you the freedom to make it
- 1:06:02a run on sentence if you so choose.
- 1:06:04All right. Well, I think it's a legitimate
- 1:06:05sentence. I think it's time to ask your
- 1:06:12wife if there's any opportunities in TV.
- 1:06:18Dude, I'm drawing a blank. Who was he married to?
- 1:06:22Oh, he's married to? Yeah.
- 1:06:23Yeah, yeah, that's right. He'll be at work.
- 1:06:25That's right. Yeah.
- 1:06:25Yeah. I think it's time to see if your
- 1:06:27wife can write a recommendation letter for you.
- 1:06:29Wow, yeah. You.
- 1:06:33I don't think you've out. You've ever like, come out and
- 1:06:36outright say that you dislike Dallas Kuykel.
- 1:06:38Maybe you have but is that? Kind of where you're is.
- 1:06:41This kind of. There's just a little.
- 1:06:47It's the Astros days that still kind of stick with me in my own
- 1:06:53irrational way. They were at at times.
- 1:06:57He dominated the Yankees for a few years.
- 1:06:59Yeah, there was certainly there was a confidence there that
- 1:07:03existed and maybe you could make it.
- 1:07:05In Yankee Stadium, yeah, like it was like, I I'm all done with
- 1:07:09you. Please go away.
- 1:07:11So but I I would I'm and I'm not saying that in any disrespectful
- 1:07:15way. I think it's a very good career.
- 1:07:17I think that that's like, I think people can say like, you
- 1:07:20know what, solid career, you know what I mean?
- 1:07:22There's names you can sit there and be like solid, solid career,
- 1:07:27nothing crazy, but you had a you had a decent career.
- 1:07:33I think he's. I think it's just time, you know
- 1:07:38what I mean? Hey, he got his, he got his ten
- 1:07:44years. He reached, he reached his
- 1:07:46benchmark. That's a.
- 1:07:47That's a benchmark. That's not a small deal.
- 1:07:50Yeah, that's a huge deal. So yeah, I just, I think things
- 1:07:58just that time. I would agree.
- 1:08:06All right, cool. Four starts with the Brewers,
- 1:08:08Kaiko posted a 540 ERA. Gave up ten runs and 20.
- 1:08:12Three hits over 16 and 2/3. That's not what you want, yeah.
- 1:08:15Made it past the 4th just once. That's that's we give you a shot
- 1:08:20and yeah. It goes back to your point that
- 1:08:24you made when we talked about him getting picked up by the
- 1:08:26Brewers is like just kind of throwing what you can at the
- 1:08:30wall, seeing what sticks. Dallas, Kaiko.
- 1:08:32Yep, doesn't stick. A lot of teams have
- 1:08:35opportunities to do that. I respect the Brewers for doing
- 1:08:38it for saying why not Because the the risk reward here is
- 1:08:43really a landslide on the reward side.
- 1:08:45If he is good, risk is it's four bad starts.
- 1:08:50Good riddance. Nice knowing y'all.
- 1:08:52Speaking about a lot of teams, I think we've arrived at the point
- 1:08:56where want to kind of wrap things up, looking at some
- 1:08:59storylines from the unofficial first half and then maybe a
- 1:09:05storyline or two about things that we're looking forward to
- 1:09:09post All Star Break. So maybe some surprises that
- 1:09:16have caught your eye. What do you?
- 1:09:17What do you got? My my main surprise is a quiet
- 1:09:27is a is a quiet Saint Louis Cardinals somewhat of a turn
- 1:09:33around situation going on. You know, I think they're what
- 1:09:38did I write down 3 1/2 back in the division currently sitting
- 1:09:42at the time of this recording at 50 and 45.
- 1:09:48Wanted to just kind of look up some of the like extended
- 1:09:51numbers stuff. They're I think they're very
- 1:09:55much like in like a like a 8587 win ball club.
- 1:10:02If they can add a couple pieces, you know, they're 18 and 12 in
- 1:10:07one running games. They're hanging around 5:00 and
- 1:10:106:00 in extra inning games. They're 500 against the East in
- 1:10:17the NL, they're 15 and 13 against teams in the Central, 11
- 1:10:22and nine against the West, 12 and 11 in inner.
- 1:10:25In interleague play. They're pretty much even against
- 1:10:30righty lefty. And this is all happening with
- 1:10:33like a a pretty, I would say of our standards and probably his
- 1:10:38standards as well. A pretty subpar performance from
- 1:10:42your corner infielders and no one are not on Goldschmidt.
- 1:10:46I think when you look at what they expect themselves to do,
- 1:10:50that's not this. They're not getting paid for 22
- 1:10:56to 26 home runs in 80RBI S. They're not getting paid for
- 1:11:01that. They're getting paid for a
- 1:11:03little bit more. They're getting paid for better
- 1:11:05leadership, better defense. So the, the fact that you can
- 1:11:08look at the Saint Louis Cardinals team and say, you know
- 1:11:10what, 3 1/2 back five games over, not the great start to the
- 1:11:17season questions around manager, I'm surprised.
- 1:11:24I'm, I'm somewhat impressed. Not like the NL Central is like
- 1:11:28the greatest league in baseball, but I, I think I'm pretty
- 1:11:33impressed. And we, I think there was a lot
- 1:11:35of people that were like, you know, that's a pretty old
- 1:11:37pitching staff that you got going on.
- 1:11:40And that was a lot of the offseason talk.
- 1:11:42And I think pitching is what's kind of got them there.
- 1:11:46So so you're taking the over for 505 hundred or better ball.
- 1:11:53Yeah, I, I think they're in a position where they could add
- 1:11:57and they could try to fill some, some holes in a smart way.
- 1:12:01I think they are. And I think that they could, if
- 1:12:04they keep on this stretch, I think they could.
- 1:12:09I wouldn't be surprised if they drop off, especially these two.
- 1:12:15You just don't turn it around. But yeah.
- 1:12:18That I don't know if I ever updated you guys on on that, but
- 1:12:24I still get I still get notifications on that Ollie
- 1:12:28Marmel rant we went on where we predicted the date he was going
- 1:12:31to get fired. Yeah.
- 1:12:33And this was like over a year ago at this point.
- 1:12:37And I still get comments where it's like, who's who's watching
- 1:12:40this on like June 12th? It's like, and he's still with
- 1:12:44the team who's watching this on like July 6th.
- 1:12:49But it's fair. I wouldn't say I was the only
- 1:12:52one saying that, but I'm not going to sit here and say like I
- 1:12:55was saying, I'm on an island here.
- 1:12:56I think no, we were both. Making our, our, our predictions
- 1:12:59on when he was going to get fired because they at the time,
- 1:13:02I think that was the right. Thing thinking that too.
- 1:13:04So it's like just saying, yeah, not a crazy, crazy thought.
- 1:13:10What's your surprise though, for Seth?
- 1:13:13Call me a Homer, whatever, but. No, that's a fair one.
- 1:13:17This I'll give you. I'll give you a hall pass here.
- 1:13:19This is a fair. One thank you.
- 1:13:20I appreciate it. I feel like you got to you got
- 1:13:23to show some love to the Sox. Not you as a as a Yankees fan,
- 1:13:27but just generally speaking, got to show some love to the Sox.
- 1:13:31Actually just closed out a series win against the Royals,
- 1:13:35who we we gave some love to earlier in this episode.
- 1:13:38You're currently sitting at 11. You're going into the All Star
- 1:13:41break, 11 games over 511 games. You're 4 1/2 games back from the
- 1:13:48division lead. Yeah, like the conversation when
- 1:13:53this team finally decided to get hot, when they stopped tinkering
- 1:13:57and and flirting with the whole 500 socks thing.
- 1:14:00You'd win a game. You'd lose a game when they
- 1:14:04decided to actually kick it into next gear.
- 1:14:08The narrative quickly and like say what you will say it's say
- 1:14:12it's a gimmick, say it's a joke. The narrative has legitimately
- 1:14:18shifted. I believe in that clubhouse to
- 1:14:21forget the wild card while the Yankees and OS are like kicking
- 1:14:27their kicking themselves like each other throughout the
- 1:14:30remainder of the season. Let's take the division, you're
- 1:14:334 1/2 games back. I I'm of the belief they've done
- 1:14:37enough to warrant buying at the deadline.
- 1:14:39There's still conversations coming from the front office
- 1:14:43talking about, well, we need to pick a lane.
- 1:14:45I don't know what more this team needs to do to convince the
- 1:14:48front office that this is a team that you need to invest in.
- 1:14:52That's what I was going to ask. And and this isn't like, I'm not
- 1:14:55trying to slight in any way like I, I, I don't disagree at all.
- 1:14:59I'm very surprised. I think a lot of people are do
- 1:15:05do are two questions. Are they only a few moves away
- 1:15:12And truthfully to your core, understanding baseball, not with
- 1:15:18bias, but understanding what rosters you've seen be able to
- 1:15:22do this type of stuff to make it all the way in Hoyster Trophy.
- 1:15:26Do they have that after a couple moves?
- 1:15:29And my second question is, do does this front office have the
- 1:15:34balls to make those moves go? I saw this team do what they
- 1:15:40did. They were they were a few calls
- 1:15:44away from May from advancing to the World Series in 2021.
- 1:15:50You and I witnessed that team take down the Yankees and the
- 1:15:55Wild Card Game and go on to take down the Rays and quite nearly
- 1:16:00take down the Astros that year. I see a lot of similarities in
- 1:16:04terms of expectations coming into the year and then how
- 1:16:07things panned out at the deadline and even post deadline.
- 1:16:12We haven't gotten to that point this year, obviously, but I can
- 1:16:14see things trending that way. But it comes down to the front
- 1:16:19office and the optimistic side of me wants to think that
- 1:16:25they're going to be able to pull the trigger because I've seen
- 1:16:29how frustrated the fan base has been the last two, two yeah,
- 1:16:362223, those couple seasons where just a complete let down.
- 1:16:42And you're seeing now with the way that they've been playing,
- 1:16:45the interest is is back a little bit with this club, not just in
- 1:16:50the city, but just like their fans in general.
- 1:16:53And they're finally getting some love nationally.
- 1:16:56Like, I, I know I, I have a, I have a particular beef with
- 1:17:00power rankings. I think it's just engagement
- 1:17:02bait. But like the Sox are in those
- 1:17:03conversations because of, because of how well they've been
- 1:17:07playing. But the realistic side of me
- 1:17:11thinks that I, I just don't like, they may make a move here
- 1:17:14or there just to kind of check the box, but I don't think
- 1:17:18they're truly going to take a leap because they, they just
- 1:17:23don't, I don't think they've, they completely believe in this
- 1:17:25team this year. Are they done with Cora?
- 1:17:30Is the front office just over him?
- 1:17:32I think no, I don't. Think for him to succeed.
- 1:17:36I'm very confused. I don't know.
- 1:17:37I don't think they're done with him.
- 1:17:38I think he's done with him. He's going.
- 1:17:40I, I've, you brought me back after the suspension and
- 1:17:44everything. You brought me back to win a
- 1:17:47World Series and you have done nothing to support that mission,
- 1:17:53and I just think he's fed up with it.
- 1:17:54Contract wise, this is it, This is it.
- 1:17:56Yeah. He's going to get paid wherever
- 1:18:03he wants to go. I'm curious to see where you
- 1:18:05would go. I'm really curious.
- 1:18:09I'd like a win now. I would love to see them do
- 1:18:13enough this year to convince him to stay because I, I mean, he's
- 1:18:17literally he's on the wall back here.
- 1:18:19I got him on the shelf It it's like Cora is just on another
- 1:18:24level when it comes to managers. But I I just think he's
- 1:18:29regardless, I think what happens this year, I think he's decided
- 1:18:32in his mind that he's he's out. But just a little little bonus
- 1:18:37surprise or yeah, bonus surprise for the the unofficial first
- 1:18:43half that I had written down is the National League East just
- 1:18:45kind of generally more so like the top half of it.
- 1:18:50We're talking Phillies, Braves, Mets, pleasant surprise, I think
- 1:18:56is or I shouldn't say pleasant refreshing surprise is to see
- 1:19:00the Phillies kind of dominate the the conversation coming out
- 1:19:04of the vision. I mean, as we very well know the
- 1:19:07the Braves have dominated that conversation for for some time
- 1:19:10now. But I mean, we're looking at a
- 1:19:14Phillies team that is currently 62 and 34 where they're nearly
- 1:19:2430 games over 500. If they're 28 games, if my math
- 1:19:31hurts me quickly over 500, that like that's just insane.
- 1:19:34And to see not necessarily a pedestrian year coming out of
- 1:19:39Atlanta, they're 10 games over 500.
- 1:19:41That's, I mean, that's, that's notable.
- 1:19:44Not up to their standards, but yeah.
- 1:19:46But even capable of but considering the circumstances.
- 1:19:50But even more surprised than that, I think, is the Mets just
- 1:19:53kind of hanging around in a year that, again, three wins.
- 1:19:57Over 500 like that's. They were not expected to
- 1:20:00compete. They said it themselves.
- 1:20:01Max Scherzer made it very clear. He made it known.
- 1:20:04They told me they are not competing in 2024 and here they
- 1:20:08are just kind of hanging around. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:20:13Can I go a quick bonus surprise real quick?
- 1:20:16No, no stats, no numbers, really.
- 1:20:19Quick bonus surprise is, is the Diamondbacks turning it around a
- 1:20:23little bit like this last two weeks or so?
- 1:20:26I think they're seven and three and then the last 10 and like
- 1:20:30they seem like they're kind of playing better baseball.
- 1:20:32So just a little surprise there that like 6 1/2 back from the
- 1:20:36Dodgers is like, I think I'm OK in this position.
- 1:20:41I think feeling OK, you know, and that's, that's they're
- 1:20:46competing and like, they're competing with teams like
- 1:20:51Braves, Cardinals, obviously, you know, the Padres and I think
- 1:20:58the Mets can kind of be in that conversation with them.
- 1:21:01All these teams have like the last spot could be ours.
- 1:21:04So I'm curious to see. But anyway, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
- 1:21:07surprised by what I've seen out of the Diamondbacks just
- 1:21:10recently, mainly. And isn't Corbin Carroll like
- 1:21:13kind of slowly? Turning it around once I once I
- 1:21:16traded him, he was like, you know.
- 1:21:18He's showing, he's showing some signs at least of of turning
- 1:21:22around, I think. It bugs.
- 1:21:24It really bugs me. I'm not going to sit here and
- 1:21:25say I'm smarter than Major League hitting coaches, but it
- 1:21:28really, really bugs me. It really bugs me that there's
- 1:21:32some coaches that don't see this man that has over been over
- 1:21:36striding by a miles wider than what he was last year and it's
- 1:21:43like there's there hasn't been a fix at all.
- 1:21:47The man can't get on top of a baseball to save his life.
- 1:21:53Anyway, sorry said that was going to be quick.
- 1:21:56Hoping nothing but the best for Corbin.
- 1:21:58I think baseball's better when he's he's lighting it up on all
- 1:22:01sides of the ball. Shorten your stride a little
- 1:22:03bit, dude. Storyline we're looking forward
- 1:22:07to or I'm looking forward to in the unofficial second-half is
- 1:22:11and I'm I mentioned it I guess like a few episodes ago is
- 1:22:17getting to see how long this NL playoff logjam last.
- 1:22:24I put out a post I think like a a week or two ago at this point
- 1:22:28and it still remains true. 13 of the 15 National League teams
- 1:22:35either hold or are within six games of a playoff spot. 13 This
- 1:22:41is Manfred, Major League Baseball.
- 1:22:45And again, I know I, we, I feel like we just had this
- 1:22:47conversation recently, but it's the fact that we're at the
- 1:22:50deadline and at the at the break and it's still remains true is
- 1:22:56just mind boggling to me. And I think it's going to make
- 1:23:01for I won't even I'm not going to say because we we already
- 1:23:03talked about how the expanded postseason I think has
- 1:23:07negatively impacted the trade deadline.
- 1:23:10Yeah, but I think it will at the very least make for an
- 1:23:14interesting last couple months. Yeah, sure.
- 1:23:18Or yeah, last last couple months of the regular season.
- 1:23:22So that's that's kind of the storyline I'm looking at because
- 1:23:25again, you you mentioned teams like the Mets, the D backs,
- 1:23:29where it's like, well, you didn't really know what you're
- 1:23:31going to get out of them for some of these teams, you didn't
- 1:23:34even really think they were going to be in the conversation.
- 1:23:36But here we are again at the All Star Break and they're still
- 1:23:39floating around. Pirates, for example, currently
- 1:23:42a game and a half out of a lot of the.
- 1:23:44Reds in there like yeah. I mean, I'll run, I'll run
- 1:23:49through the list here. Nats six games out.
- 1:23:51And again, this is at the very second that I'm looking at the
- 1:23:54standings. I know some games are wrapping
- 1:23:56up here to to finish the weekend, but currently the Nats
- 1:23:59are six games out. Giants 3 1/2, Cubs 3 1/2, Reds
- 1:24:02three, Pirates 1 1/2, Padres half, D Backs half.
- 1:24:07And then you got the Braves, Cardinals and Mets holding down
- 1:24:09the wild card spots. It's going to be an interesting
- 1:24:11couple months. Yeah, I love that.
- 1:24:14Dang yours is better than mine and also you told me to be
- 1:24:18positive. I'm trying to be positive but
- 1:24:21like now that I'm reading it and I want to say it out loud, it
- 1:24:23feels a little negative. It feels a little condescending.
- 1:24:28Is Cleveland good or are they just really good at home?
- 1:24:33Have you seen the home Rd. splits I?
- 1:24:35Don't think it's condescending, I think it's a valid question.
- 1:24:39Like I'm not trying to be a hater.
- 1:24:41No. They're 30 and 11 at the moment
- 1:24:44at home and 28 and 26 on the road.
- 1:24:48I think they're doing what they should be doing that you're
- 1:24:50doing what you are supposed to do.
- 1:24:52If you can hang around 500 on the road, great.
- 1:24:59I just I'm asking, is this real? Are you real?
- 1:25:02Well, is there, is there, is there like what is it the
- 1:25:08regress to means? You know what I'm saying?
- 1:25:11Like. That's big time right there.
- 1:25:13Regress to the mean. Look, it's you who you truly
- 1:25:16are. That's what I'm.
- 1:25:17That's what I'm curious about. Let me ask you this, if you were
- 1:25:22the manager of a Major League ball club and I said you get to
- 1:25:27the All Star break and you're over 500 on the road, I don't
- 1:25:31care that it's only by what, two games?
- 1:25:36If I said you were playing over 500 ball on the road, would you
- 1:25:40be happy with that? I think if I was this good on
- 1:25:43the road or this good at home, yeah, you know, I mean, but.
- 1:25:50Even then, even then, even if you weren't as good as they are
- 1:25:53at home, which again, 30 and 11, that is insanely good.
- 1:25:57Yeah. Even if, say you were just 500
- 1:26:00across the board. Yeah.
- 1:26:02To go back to the point, we're just we're just talking about
- 1:26:04with the expanded postseason, if you're 500 on both sides of the
- 1:26:08TO, yeah, you know, you get what I'm saying.
- 1:26:11Both sides of the ball meaning home, home and on the road.
- 1:26:14You're in the mix, You're in the conversation.
- 1:26:16All I'm saying is that like when you look at like the if we look
- 1:26:20at kind of those power rankings, those unofficial power ranks
- 1:26:23that you were talking about, the Orioles are 28 and 16 on the
- 1:26:27road. They're 12 games over 500 on the
- 1:26:30road. The Yankees are 12 games over
- 1:26:33500 on the road. The Red Sox are 12 games over
- 1:26:37500 on the road, right? Philly seven games over 500 on
- 1:26:43the road, the Dodger 6. I'm not trying to be a hater.
- 1:26:48I just don't feel like the Guardians are real.
- 1:26:56I don't think this is legit, but that's my that's what I'm
- 1:27:01looking. I'm just what I'm watching for
- 1:27:03it. Hey, that's valid.
- 1:27:04I that's a that's. A.
- 1:27:06I'm not ready to answer that question.
- 1:27:07I'm ready to see if that question gets answered for me
- 1:27:11with how they do. That's a very, very interesting
- 1:27:14storyline and I'll certainly have my eye on that as well.
- 1:27:17But to to your point about those other teams that are much better
- 1:27:22on the road, Orioles, for example, over 500 at home, but
- 1:27:28they're 30 and 22, The Red Sox a game under 500 at home.
- 1:27:34That to me is more alarming. You need to be taking care of
- 1:27:38your business at home. And if you're maybe sliding a
- 1:27:41little bit on the road, that's understandable.
- 1:27:43It's the road. That's kind of how these things
- 1:27:45are supposed to go. You, you're supposed to play
- 1:27:47better at home. But the Guardians are doing
- 1:27:51both. They're playing exceptionally
- 1:27:53well at home and there were 500 on the road.
- 1:27:56So like, I'm not, I'm not really, I'm not really worried
- 1:28:01about it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:04I mean, I'm just, I'm just curious.
- 1:28:08Sorry, I I, I didn't mean to come at you.
- 1:28:11Like no I. Wasn't trying to sound like
- 1:28:12aggressive, but I I'm just trying like for Guardians fans,
- 1:28:15for example, like if they're if they're kind of thinking along
- 1:28:17the same lines, like, oh man, like do we think this is legit?
- 1:28:20I'm not, yeah, I don't, I don't think I I think this is a great
- 1:28:23position to be in. I think I'd be thrilled if I'm a
- 1:28:25Guardians fan. Let's face it, they're what,
- 1:28:29like tied for second or third of the best record in baseball.
- 1:28:32Like I'd feel I'd feel great about that.
- 1:28:36Tied for second best record in baseball with the OS.
- 1:28:38Yeah. So I'm just, I'm just curious to
- 1:28:41see if, if, where's, where are the, where are the means?
- 1:28:45Are you, are you going to kind of come back down to earth when
- 1:28:49you're at home? Are you over performing on the
- 1:28:53road? I don't.
- 1:28:54I'm just interested to see if this team is legit.
- 1:29:00Then I do think they add. I do think they add, which is
- 1:29:05crazy because everyone at the beginning of the year is like,
- 1:29:08you guys better move Bieber, you better move Bieber.
- 1:29:10And I know he's out, but like, even more of that conversation.
- 1:29:14It's like they're still doing this.
- 1:29:16So yeah, no, no, by the way around, the Guardians not kind
- 1:29:24of just separate random note, Corey Kluber doing a podcast
- 1:29:28now. It's kind of interesting.
- 1:29:29Is it really? Yeah, I did not catch that.
- 1:29:32I would have never guessed. I would have never guessed you
- 1:29:34to do a podcast, Mr. Kluber. But hey, good for you, guy.
- 1:29:39I saw him. I saw him laugh and smile a few
- 1:29:41times and I was like, hold on. Am I?
- 1:29:43Am I off base by guessing that it has the name has to do with
- 1:29:47Cluebot? I think it is exactly that, I'm
- 1:29:51not sure. I got AI, got a look up, look
- 1:29:54up, 'cause that's got to be the most predictable.
- 1:29:57Yeah. Corey Kluber Podcast.
- 1:30:01No free ads, but you know, whatever.
- 1:30:03He's Major League Baseball player former.
- 1:30:08I'm not seeing. Hold on.
- 1:30:13He judge was just on there with him and then I think he just, I
- 1:30:17saw an interview that he did with Jose Bautista.
- 1:30:23He has like another host. The Casa de Clube?
- 1:30:29Is that what I'm seeing? What?
- 1:30:33That's fire. Maybe Casa de like under the
- 1:30:36radar. Dude, that's it.
- 1:30:39Casa de Clube that's it's more creative than I thought it was.
- 1:30:44Maybe it's just it had been originally our cool guy.
- 1:30:48That would be a clue, but I like that.
- 1:30:50All right, Well, yeah, again, no free ads.
- 1:30:53Not trying to push you guys to another podcast, but hopefully,
- 1:30:55I guess, Yeah. Anyway, stick around with that.
- 1:30:58It was just. Weird that I was like, that's
- 1:30:59the last guy I would have expected to do a podcast when he
- 1:31:02was done. Wild.
- 1:31:07How you feeling? I know, feel good.
- 1:31:09I know, I know, we're deep here, but this is the last episode
- 1:31:14this. Is 450.
- 1:31:14You know what I'm saying? This is 4. 50 and I know we're
- 1:31:17deep, but people will have plenty of time before game
- 1:31:20action resumes this. Is true.
- 1:31:23This is true. Consume this podcast Do we want
- 1:31:25to close out with a little game? Yes, yes, we do little game.
- 1:31:29You remember the rule, first player cannot be someone that
- 1:31:32we've named today. OK, that's.
- 1:31:36That's a good reminder 'cause I probably would have forgotten
- 1:31:39OK, a little bit against that player.
- 1:31:41And as a reminder, or if it, if you're new, first of all,
- 1:31:44welcome. Second of all this, the goal of
- 1:31:46this game, it's popular game, but it's the the the goal of the
- 1:31:52game is to say the same player at the same time, and you're
- 1:32:01trying to land on the same player using context clues.
- 1:32:06Yeah, within ten tries using context clues of the names.
- 1:32:10The connection of the names. Yeah, connection of the names
- 1:32:13that were previously guessed in the previous attempt.
- 1:32:16Yeah and if that doesn't make sense, you'll you'll see here
- 1:32:19yeah, shout out shout out Hank Hank in the chat is pause that
- 1:32:23we're that we're closing out with the game.
- 1:32:25I I love it. And he also asked, by the way,
- 1:32:27he said, is this last episode in Ace gear?
- 1:32:29Yes, this is this is this is it. And you want to purchase this,
- 1:32:34it is up forbid when we go on to streaming.
- 1:32:37You can reach out to the Hall of Fame in Cooper Sound and you can
- 1:32:40discuss details with them. It will be there in display no
- 1:32:44be washed and I had again to revisit the whole like well,
- 1:32:48shouldn't he have to wear it for the Home Run Derby live stream?
- 1:32:51No, absolutely not. No, I paid my dues.
- 1:32:55I paid my dues with this. I didn't miss an episode in I.
- 1:32:58Would just like to go back to the maybe the receipts and just
- 1:33:03see if we said All Star game or All Star break.
- 1:33:07I'd just like to see if that maybe that was it doesn't
- 1:33:10matter. It probably no, it it's a bonus
- 1:33:13pod. It's not really a fool.
- 1:33:14That's my point. We said every episode.
- 1:33:17It's not a it's not a technicality.
- 1:33:19It's literally, it's what it means, we said.
- 1:33:23Whether it was break or All Star game, the fact that it's a bonus
- 1:33:27live stream for the Home Run Derby, it's let's put a clear.
- 1:33:31Out though, let's put a statement out is that there was
- 1:33:33no Home Run Derby stream when the bet was made that wasn't on
- 1:33:40the table yet. So I'm just going to say, you
- 1:33:43know, maybe we just take it to the judicial system and and see
- 1:33:48what the jury says. No, this is a I'm all about
- 1:33:51democracy, but in this case, we're dealing with the
- 1:33:53dictatorship. I'm making the call.
- 1:33:55I'm not wearing it during the live stream.
- 1:33:58Not wearing it during live stream.
- 1:33:59All right, so good. Let's get to this game all
- 1:34:01right, The 1st guest. The 1st guest cannot be a name
- 1:34:04that we've already discussed this episode.
- 1:34:06And that's just. This is just the first one.
- 1:34:08This is just the first one. Then after that, it's free rain.
- 1:34:10Yep, Yep, Yep. All right.
- 1:34:12And you also can't repeat names as a reminder rule as well.
- 1:34:16Yeah. OK.
- 1:34:25This long. It's the first guy.
- 1:34:26I know, but there's there like there's the more we played it.
- 1:34:30No, no, no, the more we play this, the more that I'm
- 1:34:32realizing that like the 1st guest can really like set us up.
- 1:34:36Like if you're just, if you're way off the rails, you, you kind
- 1:34:40of screw yourself. But if you can kind of keep it
- 1:34:42within a certain sweet spot, OK, I got a guy, I got a guy, I got
- 1:34:45a guy. I switched a guy when you were
- 1:34:46saying that that's fair. I just felt, I felt a gut
- 1:34:49feeling and I switched it up. That's fine.
- 1:34:51I got a guy. I actually switched up in my
- 1:34:53mind, I had a guy that I said, oh, as I'm rambling, I'm going
- 1:34:57to switch. So I got a guy.
- 1:34:58All right, here we go, 321 Julio Rodriguez.
- 1:35:05I was really hoping we said the same name there, that I mean
- 1:35:07that's a mic drop head into the break.
- 1:35:11So Christian Walker and Julio Rodriguez.
- 1:35:18Christian Walker and Mr. Julio, this is tough.
- 1:35:32How you doing? I got a guy.
- 1:35:38All right, I got it, guy. It feel good.
- 1:35:45I feel decent. I feel decent.
- 1:35:47I feel decent. The logic's loose here.
- 1:35:49This is one of my fast and loose logic guesses, but I'm I'm a
- 1:35:53roll with it 321. Typhoid Corbin Carroll It came
- 1:35:59across my brain. We really did.
- 1:36:01I think we took similar approaches there.
- 1:36:03We just ended up on other sides of the Yeah, OK.
- 1:36:06It really did. Can't.
- 1:36:08Repeat names here. Corbin Carroll and Ty France Oh,
- 1:36:25oh, I got a guy. Oh, I got a guy.
- 1:36:28I got a guy. You got a guy?
- 1:36:32Yeah. Think.
- 1:36:35Corbin Carroll and Ty France. Corbin, Carol and Tyler.
- 1:36:44OK, well may I may need to revise here.
- 1:36:47We're two guesses in, by the way.
- 1:36:50Corbin, Carol and Ty France. Yeah, I'm just going to roll
- 1:36:59with it. Corbin, Carol and Ty France
- 1:37:08Struggling. I don't feel.
- 1:37:12I don't feel great. I don't feel great.
- 1:37:15Let's go 321. Eugenio Suarez.
- 1:37:22Oh my. Gosh, oh boy.
- 1:37:26I mean that my logic's pretty pretty solid there.
- 1:37:30It's very, very obvious. Mariner and Diamondback for
- 1:37:34sure. Eugenio Suarez and EC, I don't
- 1:37:41know where we go from here. Poof, I got a guy.
- 1:37:47No, you don't. Yeah, I got a guy.
- 1:37:53I got a guy. This is guest #4 All right, 321
- 1:38:00Kenny Randy Johnson. Well, it's yours.
- 1:38:04What was that logic? Or Mariner?
- 1:38:06Or Diamondback again? You're still on that path.
- 1:38:08It's not like it's not in the spirit of the game necessarily,
- 1:38:13it's more like team based rather than player base.
- 1:38:15But I was hoping you could just meet me there.
- 1:38:17But you clearly you you missed the.
- 1:38:20I was a fast little lefty that played for the Reds because
- 1:38:24Suarez played for the Reds. So Kenny Lofton, Kenny Lofton
- 1:38:30and. Who?
- 1:38:32Randy Johnson. Randy Johnson, OK.
- 1:38:36We're in that era that that could work all.
- 1:38:40Right. Kenny Lofton.
- 1:38:46OK. Oh, wait.
- 1:38:49No. Wrong guy.
- 1:38:51Wrong guy, wrong guy. All right, I got a guy.
- 1:38:58Really. Yeah, that was 4 guesses.
- 1:39:01This is number 5. Kenny Lofton and Randy Johnson,
- 1:39:10You got a guy, huh? Yep.
- 1:39:17I don't think I got a guy. It all comes down to, like, what
- 1:39:23Kenny Lofton do you think about? You know what Randy Johnson do
- 1:39:28you think about? Maybe I'm not even thinking
- 1:39:30about Kenny Lofton necessarily. No, I am crazy.
- 1:39:40No, I am. I am.
- 1:39:41All right, let's roll. Is it illegal if we're kind of
- 1:39:48like sharing our logic after each guest?
- 1:39:51I mean it's. I don't know.
- 1:39:52I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:39:54Because I I like, I hate it. I like explaining my logic so
- 1:39:58people can at least see the connection that was made.
- 1:40:00Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:02I'm fine with that. I but.
- 1:40:03I I don't want that to influence the future pick.
- 1:40:06Well, you know. What I'm saying?
- 1:40:07It sometimes doesn't because it's like those two names could
- 1:40:12be really far off, you know? OK, all right, it can't.
- 1:40:15It can't be based on all the names we've been working on.
- 1:40:18It's supposed to be based on the last two names.
- 1:40:23Did we just make our fifth pick or is this still the 5th pick?
- 1:40:25This is five. This is five.
- 1:40:27This is the five. OK, All right.
- 1:40:29So we're dealing with Kenny Lofton and.
- 1:40:33Randy Johnson. Randy Johnson.
- 1:40:35All right, I got I got a guy three.
- 1:40:37I gotta go. 21 barrier B junior. All right, Backyard baseball
- 1:40:45characters. Oh, no, wait, hold on.
- 1:40:49Yeah, No. Kenny Lofton was definitely a
- 1:40:51backyard, right? I'm not.
- 1:40:53Correct as an Indian. As an Indian.
- 1:40:55Yeah, yeah, that's what I need to confirm.
- 1:40:57Kenny Lofton backyard. Base I love playing with Kenny
- 1:41:01Lofton. Oh yeah, yeah, definitely in
- 1:41:03there. Oh, you got the big old noggin
- 1:41:04with the with Chief Wahoo on the on the lid.
- 1:41:07Yeah, yeah, I definitely remember that.
- 1:41:08OK, that's funny. But Barry Bonds and and Ken
- 1:41:14Griffey, junior. I made it hurt.
- 1:41:18We're I feel like we're working well.
- 1:41:19We're right there. All right.
- 1:41:22Let's. I went with like, I went with
- 1:41:23like fast lefty center fielder with Mariner days of of Randy
- 1:41:29Johnson. That was my thought process
- 1:41:31there, You know what I mean? Yeah, no, that's that's an
- 1:41:36excellent, excellent pick. OK.
- 1:41:39Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey, junior, I mean.
- 1:41:43I could go somewhere, but I feel like I could really mess things
- 1:41:46up. I don't.
- 1:41:48I don't want to go. I don't want to go too crazy
- 1:41:50with that because that really just kind of ends us, so I don't
- 1:41:53think I will. I'm going to go I'm.
- 1:42:00Going to find a new name. I got a guy.
- 1:42:03I got a guy, got a guy. I don't love my guy.
- 1:42:11Well, you can change it. You can change it.
- 1:42:19We're 5 picks in. We got 5 picks left all.
- 1:42:22Right. Remember that feeling I had when
- 1:42:24a couple games ago we lost the last one, but the 1-2 times ago
- 1:42:28where I I had a feeling we were going to pull it out?
- 1:42:30I have that feeling. I have that feeling today.
- 1:42:32I have bad news. I lost my guy so I definitely
- 1:42:35need to come up with a new guy. What are we?
- 1:42:37Are we one in three? Is our record one in three?
- 1:42:39Yeah, I'm back to my guy, Back to my guy, I think.
- 1:42:43I think maybe. I don't like that you're.
- 1:42:46I don't like the sound of you like overthinking this A.
- 1:42:49Little bit I, I'm a lot of overthinking it.
- 1:42:51There's a lot of there, a lot of that in there, yeah.
- 1:42:55It's not great. OK, well.
- 1:42:59Maybe I maybe I work one of you will walk it back for a SEC.
- 1:43:01Maybe I'll walk it back. I mean, this one kind of just
- 1:43:04seems. It seems like in your face,
- 1:43:09that's just me, all right? He says he says All right,
- 1:43:18that's not exactly the most reassured face, but.
- 1:43:21I, I could, I feel like I could go a couple different routes
- 1:43:24here and I don't feel great about any of them.
- 1:43:27Well, that sucks because we're about as close as we're going to
- 1:43:30get. I mean, if we're, if we're
- 1:43:32playing Battleship right now, I mean we're freaking splashing
- 1:43:37all around the ships. What am I missing here?
- 1:43:43What am I missing? I mean, just just, I'll give you
- 1:43:50the advice I always give you. Just think, let's roll.
- 1:43:55Oh, man, have to feel like you're going to kick yourself
- 1:43:58out of this. All right, 321.
- 1:44:01Willie Mays. I literally was going to say
- 1:44:05Willie Mays. Why didn't you say Willie Mays?
- 1:44:07Because because we're talking about two.
- 1:44:09I'm saying what you will about bonds.
- 1:44:11We're talking about rewind. Rewind What I said.
- 1:44:13I was like, if I open that door, we could be screwed.
- 1:44:16No, you shouldn't have opened that door.
- 1:44:18That's what I was saying. Because I'm like, once we go
- 1:44:20back there, it's like. Oh, you're saying the Willie
- 1:44:22Mays door? Yeah.
- 1:44:23Oh, OK, OK. That's why I was like, I'm not
- 1:44:26going to go that because that, but I think we're OK.
- 1:44:28Andrew McCutchen and Willie Mays.
- 1:44:30Let's roll. I'm nailed it.
- 1:44:32I'm I'm so confident right here. I feel great.
- 1:44:42I feel great. I feel great.
- 1:44:43I think you need to feel great. I think you need, I think you
- 1:44:47need to feel great. I think you need to feel great.
- 1:44:50I think you need to think about no, I think what's already been.
- 1:44:53I think you need to think about what's already been said.
- 1:44:58I think you need to feel great about this.
- 1:45:02I think not. You think I need to feel great
- 1:45:07about this? I think you do, Willie.
- 1:45:14Mays and Andrew McCutcheon. Yeah.
- 1:45:21What? OK, I got a name, but I OK, All
- 1:45:40right, what are we 6 deep now? This is 7 321 Roberto Clemente.
- 1:45:50Let's go I. Told.
- 1:45:52You I thought you're going to lay a bonds on me and I we're
- 1:45:55going to get that needs to be a new rule.
- 1:45:57By the way, if we if we have a repeat, that's a that's like a
- 1:46:00stroke penalty. That's a stroke penalty.
- 1:46:02No, no repeats. We lose.
- 1:46:04Yeah, we lose a guess. I thought you're going to drop a
- 1:46:07bonds a bonds on me and I was like, we literally just said
- 1:46:09bonds like how you're not remembering this.
- 1:46:11I'm just. Worried legend pirates.
- 1:46:13You know, that was my logic. Which by the way, if bonds
- 1:46:17hadn't been stated, I mean we that would have been set on AT
- 1:46:20for us if. Yeah.
- 1:46:21Oh yeah. If we got Willie.
- 1:46:22Mays and Andrew Kachin, come on. I am really, really, yeah.
- 1:46:29I'm really I I really, I know how we were getting close
- 1:46:32because I had Willie Mays. But.
- 1:46:34And then I said it out loud. I was like, if I open that door,
- 1:46:37there's no coming back, so. You got, we got, we bounced
- 1:46:41back. That's I think that's. 2:00 and
- 1:46:423:00. Two and three, I think that's
- 1:46:44our yeah, 'cause the first win we got was all 10.
- 1:46:47Right. I think he was on the last guess
- 1:46:51so that Justin Morneau on the last.
- 1:46:53Justin Morneau. One last guess.
- 1:46:55So that was our 7th. That's the record to be to the
- 1:46:58the name that player Hall of Fame right now is Berto Clemente
- 1:47:02and Justin Morneau. Those are good names.
- 1:47:03I. Like that.
- 1:47:04I like the Hall of Fame. I like that.
- 1:47:05That's good. Those are good names in in the
- 1:47:09in the wins, in the win column. Keep a running list.
- 1:47:12I like that. The the name that player Hall of
- 1:47:14Fame. I'm a big fan.
- 1:47:15Very cool. I love that.
- 1:47:17What a way to? What a way to go into the break.
- 1:47:20Well, not not quite. I mean, we're heading into the
- 1:47:23break. But as a reminder, come hang out
- 1:47:25with us for the Home Run Derby. We'll be talking, talking ball,
- 1:47:30giving away cash, giving away prizes for the Home Run Derby.
- 1:47:32Come hang out with us on. Maybe some pizza.
- 1:47:35Maybe some pizzas. Definitely some pizzas.
- 1:47:37I'll maybe make some hot dogs. I think I am actually.
- 1:47:40Do you want to do you want to do a little hot dog thing going?
- 1:47:44Maybe if we have Ryan on if he would respond to us if he didn't
- 1:47:47big league us. Just kidding.
- 1:47:49He's in Italy for a wedding. He's.
- 1:47:51Coming back from Italy tonight, I think, or maybe tomorrow maybe
- 1:47:53I think. But still, if my man comes in
- 1:47:57with hot dogs, that'd be great. That'd be a great time.
- 1:48:02He might not make hot dogs, but I will make hot dogs.
- 1:48:06If you're in, can you commit to the hot dog thing for me?
- 1:48:11That's, that's tough, dude, because I'm going to be sitting
- 1:48:13on a plane at like 7:00 AM the next morning.
- 1:48:16That's going to be brutal for the I think you.
- 1:48:17I think you. Got to do it for the people.
- 1:48:20I think I've done enough for the people with this.
- 1:48:22Oh, next day. A next day hot dog burp problem.
- 1:48:27You think they carry over that much?
- 1:48:29That's less than 12 hours, dude. That that forget the next day
- 1:48:33that's less than 12 hours. Like the body doesn't care what
- 1:48:36time of the day it is that's less than 12.
- 1:48:37Hours. Here's here's the here's the
- 1:48:40rule is that you get a Coke, you drink that with your hot dogs,
- 1:48:44you get the burps out as as we're eating.
- 1:48:46I think those burps are out of your system in 12 hours.
- 1:48:49I'd like to think so. If not, we may have to talk to
- 1:48:51some doctors. Yeah, we may need to.
- 1:48:53All right. Well, we'll we'll discuss.
- 1:48:56We'll. Discuss something out of your
- 1:48:57system, but it's out of the burp system.
- 1:48:58You know what I mean? It's it's then moved into a
- 1:49:01different category, hopefully before your flight.
- 1:49:04We'll discuss off air what what's going to be going down
- 1:49:07anyway, Come hang out with us from the Home Run Derby.
- 1:49:09Other than that, I don't think you guys will be hearing from
- 1:49:12because I'll be out of town. We'll be in Colorado.
- 1:49:16Yeah, I don't. I don't think we need an All
- 1:49:17Star game recap anyway. Yeah, you won't be hearing from
- 1:49:20us probably. I mean post live stream of
- 1:49:24course, but you probably won't hear a pod until a week from
- 1:49:27today I guess, probably next Sunday.
- 1:49:29So I think we deserved a little bit of a break.
- 1:49:32I don't think we maybe missed like one episode this regular
- 1:49:37season thus far. Yeah, did good.
- 1:49:40Well, I had a honeymoon, but you know.
- 1:49:43Oh, true. Well, like, yeah, obviously you.
- 1:49:45Did well post. Post coming back.
- 1:49:48Yeah, good stuff. Love it.
- 1:49:52Come hang out tomorrow. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:49:54Love you all, and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:49:56baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
