- World Cup moves to knockouts! This is The Sports Reset for Sunday, June 28th. In World Cup soccer, Croatia beat Ghana 2 to 1, England handled Panama 2 to 0, Argentina beat Jordan 3 to 1, and Congo DR moved past Uzbekistan 3 to 1 in a busy final round of group stage. In UFC, Rafael Fiziev stopped Manuel Torres by knockout in the lightweight main event, giving him the cleanest result of the main card without needing the judges. In tennis, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat Ethan Quinn 7-6, 6-3 to win the ATP Mallorca final, while Madison Keys took the WTA Eastbourne final over Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4. In MLB, the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 4 to 1 at Fenway Park, and the LA Dodgers rolled past the San Diego Padres 15 to 3 in the night’s loudest baseball score. Looking ahead, today starts with World Cup soccer round of 32, where Canada faces South Africa at SoFi Stadium. In MLB, the rivalry weekend keeps going with the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox, and the LA Dodgers stay in San Diego after putting up 15 runs on Saturday, so the response from the San Diego Padres is the matchup to watch there. The Philadelphia Phillies also visit the New York Mets, which gives the National League side of the day another familiar, high-interest matchup. In the WNBA, the New York Liberty visit the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center, while the Las Vegas Aces face the Chicago Sky at United Center. Golf has final-round pressure building: At the PGA Travelers Championship, Viktor Hovland starts at 20-under with Scottie Scheffler one shot back, so the lead group has a real chase built into the final round. At the LPGA KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Haeran Ryu sits at 11-under, with Brooke Henderson one back and Ina Yoon two back.
