- 0:00You're listening to Banter with the boys.
- 0:04From high octane to adrenaline.
- 0:08Starting lineups to starting grids.
- 0:12Grid iron to Grand Prix.
- 0:16Get laced up. Let's go!
- 0:20You're listening to Bencher with the boys.
- 0:30Yo, welcome back to Banter with the boys. Fast laps.
- 0:34Obviously right off the bat next to me our co-host Joe.
- 0:38Joe, what's poppin'?
- 0:40Hey, how's it going? Looking forward to a Grand Prix that's in the USA.
- 0:44Get to watch at 3pm instead of 2am.
- 0:46Yeah, as Tyler said, the homeland last weekend.
- 0:49Coming back to the homeland.
- 0:51Still don't understand what that's about really.
- 0:53And then next to him obviously we got Cole. Cole, how's your week been?
- 0:57It's been going good man. Good week.
- 0:59Weather's turning around right now, but it's been beautiful. It was beautiful earlier today.
- 1:03It was beautiful earlier today.
- 1:04Right in sunny. Coming back. Sargeants.
- 1:06Hometown. We'll see.
- 1:09Being upgraded to Lieutenant. I saw it. I don't know, I gotta kick out of that.
- 1:13That was somewhere on Facebook.
- 1:15Tyler, what's going on?
- 1:17Not much man. Just enjoying this beautiful weather that Cole said and it's taking a turn.
- 1:22So hopefully not for the worse.
- 1:23Yeah, of course as we say that we got a storm barreling down on us in the next 30 minutes to an hour.
- 1:29So if we just cut out, better luck next time.
- 1:32But let's just move right into the Chinese recap.
- 1:37Just first off, before we even dive really deep into this, we gotta talk about these sprints.
- 1:43I know we've touched on it before in the past.
- 1:46How do you guys honestly feel about the sprint?
- 1:50Like anybody.
- 1:52I'm not a huge fan personally. I would much rather, it would mean more I guess if there was like more points on the line per se.
- 2:00Or if there was like a disparity kind of like there is in a race with the differential and the points that you get.
- 2:05But it's just, I don't know. I mean I get the draw, right? It's another race for the fans.
- 2:10None of the drivers like it.
- 2:12So I just think it could be gone away with and nobody would bat an eye.
- 2:17I think the only good thing that happened as of recent was the fact that how you place in the sprint doesn't affect the actual race.
- 2:25I thought that was ridiculous and honestly didn't make for a race. Everybody was just playing safe.
- 2:30So I think that's a big improvement.
- 2:33Because if you wreck your car in the sprint, that's not good, right? That affects going forward obviously.
- 2:40But you said the drivers don't like the sprints. Do you think the teams like the sprints or do they make them nervous?
- 2:47Like could you see it from a team point like we're getting more data with them racing.
- 2:53But to your point Cole, they're not racing super hard against each other. So it's like.
- 2:57Oh and that was the switch I was talking about. So it used to be they weren't racing. They're racing harder now than they used to.
- 3:02Oh I thought you meant it was the other way.
- 3:04No, so it used to be however you finished in the sprint was how you lined up in the actual race.
- 3:08Right. And now obviously they do the two separate qualifiers. So I think they race harder.
- 3:13But I think if you're a team you're happy with it. I mean because if you're like a lower team, if you're like Haas, this is something you kind of look like.
- 3:21Obviously the big teams they don't care. But if you're Haas and you could pull out one or two points in a sprint, that's huge for the whole season.
- 3:28It's huge. But then I would say like make it the top 10 again then and have more points for up for grabs.
- 3:34Because what's the likelihood of Haas, Williams, Alpine right now like actually getting eighth in a race?
- 3:40So but I mean at least you're getting more options for mess ups and stuff.
- 3:45And if they're racing harder over a shorter course, maybe you're going to have more crashes and stuff now with this change.
- 3:51That's the hope I would say. That's devil's advocate for the lower end teams. I think that the top end teams are kind of just like whatever.
- 3:58I mean at the end of the day from the team's perspective, I think they're all for it because what do the sprints do? Make money and draw viewership.
- 4:05Right. So the teams are all for making money and drawing viewership.
- 4:08Well 100% I think just on like the nerdy side of it for all the you know whatever the hell newie does and guys like that on the team.
- 4:17But like all the engineers and stuff like that. Like I would just think it would be an advantage to have some of the sprints as well.
- 4:24I don't know about that though because you're losing FP one and two in the weekend. Right.
- 4:28So that's where the teams truly collect their data because you get the long sprints or you get the tire data that you want.
- 4:33You can make adjustments. So I think it's actually hurting them to a certain degree.
- 4:37How hard do you truly race somebody in a practice? It's not about racing though.
- 4:40Like you don't have to predict the racing. You have to predict the car's durability and what's going to get you the best out of the car.
- 4:45Sure. But are they going to act different if you're actively racing against somebody side by side? You know what I mean?
- 4:50Are you going to get a ton of data? Probably not. Joe's got his... Joe's been trying to say something. I just keep steamrolling him.
- 4:55No. You're good. You're good. I think the fact that they only get one practice is a great point.
- 4:59They used to get two practices with this new setup. They get one and then they go right into qualifying.
- 5:05I don't think they get that much great data from a race because they're focused solely on the race.
- 5:09And talking about we just got... We had a sprint in China. Four drivers never raced there before.
- 5:15They get 60 minutes to learn the track and then get right onto the course. They're already at a disadvantage from everyone else who's been there.
- 5:22In a sprint, but then on the flip side of that, now the sprint is an advantage to them going into the Grand Prix now
- 5:28because they got a little bit of experience, however short it was.
- 5:32But they would get more experience in an FP, in a practice session.
- 5:35But not at race pace with the cars on the track.
- 5:38100% race pace because the race pace is... You simulate all of that in your practice sessions, right?
- 5:42Yeah, you can't simulate driving in dirty air, but you build your strategy off of those practice sessions.
- 5:48But simulations and then running yourself through that in a practice session can only get you so far, in my opinion, whatever, obviously.
- 5:56But compared to racing next to somebody, you can know, hey, he's going to probably do this.
- 6:01But still, it's not the same as him actually being there and making a decision because you keep learning.
- 6:07I don't know. I don't know. I'm curious for people to comment, hopefully, on this video.
- 6:11Yeah, I would love to. I think my whole, I think my take is that I probably don't love sprints.
- 6:17I think they give us more racing, which is always cool.
- 6:19But I share the same sentiment with the drivers. They're going to be tired the entire weekend.
- 6:23They got just going through a lot of a lot of stress.
- 6:26For sure. I would say. Yeah.
- 6:30Yeah, I was going to say, I mean, obviously, like a lot of the drivers don't love it.
- 6:33But I mean, we'll talk about some placement here soon.
- 6:36But there's some Mercedes driver out there that's very happy.
- 6:39He more than doubled his points in the weekend just from the sprint.
- 6:42So I think for a lot of these guys, it's almost needed to get those points.
- 6:47I would still I would still say that Lewis would come out and say that he'd go away with Sprint because of because it's Lewis.
- 6:52So but if like because kind of who he is and everything like that.
- 6:56But a lot of other racers are taking big advantage of these.
- 6:59But if Fernando gets that two spot, you know. Exactly.
- 7:03Fernando is more than capable of getting the two in the race, though.
- 7:06For sure. No, 100 percent. It's not the best comparison, but the car was the reason why I said it for sure.
- 7:13You know, but let's talk about that.
- 7:16Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, obviously not surprised to see the Red Bulls.
- 7:19We're still talking about the sprint. But yeah, I mean, Lewis Lewis finishing second the sprint was was was kind of nice to see, actually.
- 7:28It was a little bit refreshing. I know sprints don't necessarily mean a ton, but
- 7:33it was just refreshing. He even led for a little bit, which was fun.
- 7:36He looked good. He looked very good the whole time. He did look he actually did look comfortable in the car.
- 7:40So I was kind of hoping that we would see a little bit on on Sunday, which he didn't start at the back.
- 7:47Well, yeah. So that's also the other change this year with the sprint format, which I think actually drastically hurt Mercedes.
- 7:53This is there's no more park family regulations.
- 7:55So you can you can tweak that car up until the race point at this point, where you used to be.
- 8:01As soon as you have that sprint qualifying, the car is done for it. You can't make any adjustments going forward right now.
- 8:06That's changed. So the teams were able to make those adjustments that normally in turn you would make in the practice sessions because you have the extra time.
- 8:14But now you have the ability to tweak and turn throughout until you get essentially to that.
- 8:19Is that only on sprint weekends? Well, races that have a sprint? No. Is that rule like.
- 8:27Can you still make adjustments after qualifying on a race weekend? It depends on the type of adjustment to a certain degree you can.
- 8:32You can adjust like braking. You can adjust more or less what you can control in the steering wheel.
- 8:36You can do that. Right. But as soon as you like qualifying is done, you're done.
- 8:39Yeah. Everything the driver can control can be adjusted, obviously. Correct. Which a lot can be done from that steering wheel, actually.
- 8:45But I've never touched on. Yeah. But so that gives the teams to make those those adjustments throughout.
- 8:51And, you know, so I would say it hurt Mercedes because the other teams were able to see what they did and make those adjustments and Mercedes wasn't able to follow suit.
- 8:59In fact, Mercedes broke Hamilton's car for the next race.
- 9:02I mean, immediately after a sprint, he went to qualifying and got 18th. So they made adjustments, tried something new and that didn't work.
- 9:09Maybe if there was an extra practice, they could have figured that out sooner and better in the race.
- 9:14So there's your argument. That's the point that I was trying to complete my thought on last time.
- 9:18And I completely zoned. Yeah. Hamilton. Yeah. Great that he got second.
- 9:23We could talk about, you know, Norris lost five positions and then he was able to hold off Alonso.
- 9:28That was pretty cool. I love seeing that. But yeah, that race was the opposite of what he did in the sprint.
- 9:34For sure. Well, and if does anybody else have anything to add on the sprint?
- 9:38I would say it just I mean, you brought him up at Alonso and the sprint was pretty fantastic.
- 9:44I think I'm the right one. He finished dead last brother Alonso. He DNFed in the sprint.
- 9:50He lasted 17 laps. Yeah, but it didn't. Am I thinking of the race when the first 10, 12 laps of the sprint, he was fighting off science.
- 9:58Oh, yeah. He was having a huge fight. Amazing.
- 10:00The first like other up until I think like five laps before the end when that happened.
- 10:05Other than that, like all the way up until then, he was fighting off everybody. Yeah.
- 10:09And this is kind of what we talked about last time is that Alonso was actually fighting against the Red Bulls, against the Ferraris.
- 10:16He's not really fighting against the Red Bulls. He just lets the Red Bulls kind of go past him.
- 10:20No, not in the sprint. In the sprint, he was fighting off.
- 10:22I mean, it took literally took science like pushing him off the track for him to make it then for for Perez to make the pass underneath them.
- 10:32Science pushed Alonso off the track, basically. And then Perez jumped underneath.
- 10:38So, I mean, he fought like hell the whole time. He's making the car look good.
- 10:44Yeah. Like he's just got so much skill and we and we know that.
- 10:47That's why, again, it goes back to like, excuse me, it goes back to the whole thing.
- 10:51Like, it's crazy that he resigned already and blah, blah, blah.
- 10:54And it's obviously there's something coming.
- 10:56But did you have something to add on the sprint before we moved on? No. OK.
- 11:01Just want to make sure. So let's just get right into the GP.
- 11:03Then I know how we mentioned Hamilton got second in the sprint. Somebody else got second in the GP this weekend.
- 11:10And just go ahead and say I predicted that.
- 11:13But actually, I predicted that he would be in the podium. Excuse me. That's what we do.
- 11:17But great drive from Lando driver the day. Did he get? Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:22Driver of the day. Rightfully so. What a great run for him, honestly.
- 11:27I thought it should have been maybe Lewis.
- 11:29I mean, he had to be a close second as far as the races coming up to this point.
- 11:34This was Lewis's best race. 100 percent. 100 percent. 100 percent.
- 11:39And obviously Max and Sergio capping off that top three.
- 11:43I don't think you can give driver the day to somebody finishing ninth.
- 11:47I don't care if you start dead last. Bearman. He started 11th and he finished seventh.
- 11:52I mean, close to ninth, right?
- 11:55He's also I mean, you got to we're comparing Lewis to Bearman right now.
- 11:59No, no, no, no. No. Well, maybe in this season, maybe in that car.
- 12:03Yeah, I don't know. Come on, fellas.
- 12:06We know the Ferrari is like miles ahead of the Mercedes right now.
- 12:09If you put Bearman in that Ferrari against Lewis in that Mercedes, I think Lewis is probably going to win.
- 12:15But he actually finished ahead of him at that race. Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:18But like George, George lost two spots, didn't he?
- 12:23In in the right in the GP. No, he started eighth and he gained.
- 12:28He finished sixth. Yeah.
- 12:30But I mean, I would normally if it wasn't like, I guess, Lewis or one of these top, top drivers, I would say if like,
- 12:36let's say, Yuki did something like that all day.
- 12:39But when you have any of these top tier drivers like he didn't finish ahead of anybody, he shouldn't.
- 12:44No, that's fair. Right.
- 12:46Or if he jumped to like fifth and he had to beat a couple of McLarens, a couple of Ferraris to get that maybe.
- 12:51But he didn't beat any top any car that's performing halfway decent right now.
- 12:56But that's not a shot. So like good race from Lewis, like for him to be able to do that, it showed he still has some fight.
- 13:00For sure. No, 100 percent.
- 13:02Like almost kind of related, I do want to quick talk about the Mercedes in general.
- 13:07I mean, we kind of saw it again this week and I can't remember which one of you two over there were talking about this battle kind of being a battle the rest of the season kind of between George and Fernando.
- 13:16But that battle is kind of heating up a little bit. We saw a little bit of it this race, nothing too crazy.
- 13:21But obviously, George getting the better of him this race.
- 13:25But I just I think that's something to seriously keep an eye on as we continue on.
- 13:31I mean, you want to see Fernando beat out the Mercedes, right?
- 13:36No, I don't know. I was actually. Yeah. I mean, I was joking around with Tyler before. And if you wanted to, you can make an argument right now. Fernando is the best driver on the grid.
- 13:47What? With Verstappen on the grid?
- 13:51It's my exact my first almost verbatim when I said back to him.
- 13:54If they're in the same car, Fernando wins more of the races.
- 13:57Than Verstappen if they're both in the Red Bull?
- 14:00No, they're both in the Aston.
- 14:02Oh, both in the Aston?
- 14:03Well, neither one of them are winning races in the Aston.
- 14:06Well, I don't know if you put Sergeant in the Red Bull.
- 14:11Lieutenant, yeah.
- 14:13You'll be the fastest person going into a wall, that's for sure.
- 14:16Yeah, I in an Aston, I don't think they're winning the race, but I just feel like that Red Bull is like built around Max a little bit.
- 14:27I know we've had the conversation a little bit and obviously Sergio is definitely a part of that conversation, but he's their guy.
- 14:33They're going to make sure he wins WDC.
- 14:36If he's put into a car that maybe favors Alonso, I don't know.
- 14:42That's an interesting take.
- 14:44I don't think Max can be stopped right now. I don't care what car.
- 14:48In the Aston? No?
- 14:49Well, I mean, I'm not saying Max would win or neither one would win in the Aston.
- 14:54Who's winning out of those two?
- 14:55Yeah, who's like beating out each other.
- 14:57You put them both in an Aston Martin right now.
- 15:00I mean, with Fernando's knowledge of the car that he if he carries that into it. Yeah, I'd say maybe.
- 15:05Okay, put them both in a McLaren.
- 15:06I was about to say, put them in a different car.
- 15:07Oh, I'm taking Verstappen all day.
- 15:09Okay, let's say out of 20 races.
- 15:12Fernando 10 years ago.
- 15:14Let's say out of 20 races, how many are you taking Verstappen?
- 15:19Eleven.
- 15:21I would say 12 or 13.
- 15:23Out of the 20?
- 15:24I'm not saying it's a runaway.
- 15:26I think it would be close. I think it would be really close. Fernando is extremely skilled.
- 15:31I mean, best driver on the grid, though. I don't know. I still got to give it to Max.
- 15:35If Max wasn't winning by 10 plus seconds every race, you know, it's not like he's just like getting in front and like, well, I guess he is coasting.
- 15:43His coasting is a 10 second advantage.
- 15:45At least.
- 15:46If you put, I mean, we could pick a couple of drivers, let's say you put Hamilton or you put LeClaire or Science in that Red Bull, are they doing the same thing out in front with that Red Bull?
- 15:57That what Max is currently doing?
- 15:59Yeah.
- 16:00Not with Max in another car.
- 16:02So you don't think if they're in that car with that big of a gap of just overall speed?
- 16:06No, I don't think so. Because if Sergio wins and Max isn't even in contention, like the couple he won last year, he wasn't winning by that big of margins.
- 16:13No, I think you're misreading.
- 16:14Take Max out of the picture.
- 16:16OK, that's what I'm saying, though. So let's take Max out of the equation. When Sergio was winning, like when he won the couple of races he did last year, right?
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:24He didn't have the gap that Verstappen has right now that Verstappen was winning by.
- 16:29I'm not saying Sergio. I'm saying if you put somebody like Hamilton in that car though.
- 16:32My point is like that. I mean, Sergio, we all like joke around and say this, but like Sergio's a really good freaking driver.
- 16:39He's not Hamilton.
- 16:40He's not Hamilton, no. But it's I still don't think that are they winning like Max's right now?
- 16:45No, they're not. They're not winning drivers for sure.
- 16:48I'd say that was a top three or four driver.
- 16:50Oh, I mean, check was going to win. I think he's going to get second place this year.
- 16:53It's going to be it's not going to be contention.
- 16:55I think I like the idea of putting someone in Max's place and saying, can they can they make the gap to second place that Max can?
- 17:03I don't think they can. I don't think so.
- 17:05There's not a single driver on the grid right now. You don't think that would add like
- 17:09to Max's level, like to the exact same level. No, I don't think so.
- 17:15Are they going to win handedly? Yes, of course. Right.
- 17:18But when you have and I mean, you talk about like even the gap, that was a it was a 13 second gap in this last race.
- 17:24And they had a red they had a safety car where everybody lined up with 10 laps to go almost.
- 17:29No, it was 27 laps in.
- 17:31There was another one. It was it was it was lap 32 is when the safety car ended.
- 17:37So that was there was what? Fifty two laps.
- 17:39Fifty six. Oh, fifty six.
- 17:41OK, so almost so half the race, he's building up a 13 second gap.
- 17:47I mean, didn't we see him win by over 32 seconds or so?
- 17:50I thought over 30 seconds this season already, like minutes.
- 17:54It's normal. It's became normal. But like to your point, I don't think so.
- 17:59I don't think you put anybody in that car. I think they can do what Max is doing.
- 18:03Look at the agreeing with Tyler. This win the win.
- 18:06Look at the sprint for this one, right?
- 18:08He took control of the race lap 10 of 19 laps and he had an 11 second lead in nine laps.
- 18:15He just drives away from and that was but Fernando was in second at that time, too, from no mistake.
- 18:20But that's to the point where the car is definitely tailored towards him.
- 18:23I mean, 100 percent. And that's what kind of leads me back to Fernando.
- 18:27That tailor into that car, though, the just from a driver level perspective between Max and Checo.
- 18:32Is that a 10 like an over 10 second just the tweaking of their skill? Exactly.
- 18:37That's that's legend status skill.
- 18:39I feel like you can definitely make arguments for for a good amount of drivers.
- 18:43I just don't know if they're going to be able to get to Max level. I don't I don't know.
- 18:46I hope this gets answered next year and Verstappen is in a Mercedes.
- 18:51Yeah, well, I heard they offered him 150. Too low. You know, too low.
- 18:58Is 50 more a year worth leaving Red Bull because Red Bull is giving him 100.
- 19:03What do you want to do? What do you want to do?
- 19:06What's what's your what's your goals in life the rest of your life?
- 19:08You want to win championships and become a legend and beat Schumacher?
- 19:11Do you want to or Lewis, whatever, whoever leads.
- 19:13I can't remember Schumacher. Or do you want to or do you want to just make a ton of money and just bank on it?
- 19:18Because you're going to retire anyway.
- 19:19And allegedly and by what, 35, he says he's going to retire Max or something.
- 19:23So also what is Red Bull going to do in a couple of years? With the changes, what they're going to 26. Right.
- 19:30And Huey, we were talking about this before we got on here, but Huey is already going to Nui's already fielding a ton of offers.
- 19:40Oh, yeah, we're we're going to talk about that.
- 19:42Tyler's got to talk about his boy Nui. He's got he's got his phone number. They text.
- 19:47It's I don't know with Verstappen. Do you does anybody truly think Verstappen is doing this for money?
- 19:52No, I think he wants to be the best to ever do it.
- 19:54I think one year of a Red Bull deal with one hundred million dollars you're being paid, that's before sponsorships.
- 20:00You're set for the rest of your life and your great, great, great grandchildren are set.
- 20:03I just don't see why he would leave Red Bull. That would be a super weird move to me.
- 20:07But that would I mean, unless you want to prove that you can go to another team like a Brett Fire of Tom Brady status and be like, I can win the championship on another team.
- 20:15Now, if you want that challenge and approve that Mercedes isn't a bad option.
- 20:19That's what I'm thinking. You think he's got regulation.
- 20:22You think he's cocky enough around his school to do that?
- 20:25Yeah, but I don't think any action 50 more or 50 mil more.
- 20:30Right. If he goes there, Nui's probably going there.
- 20:33I don't think I don't think Max and Nui are tied as close together as Max and Mark or Helmut are.
- 20:39I think they because like Helmut, there's been rumors galore of Helmut not like in the direction that Red Bull's leadership is and he's thinking about leaving.
- 20:47So I think that matters more to Max because I think Helmut and Jos are very, very close.
- 20:53How Shoemaker Shoemaker is second, right, for the titles.
- 20:58Lewis and him are tied at seven. So the Shoemaker win all those with Ferrari.
- 21:03No, he won six of the seven with Ferrari. That's another kicker.
- 21:07Everybody else that's got seven one with multiple different cars and Max is Max going to be the one that goes and does it with the same car.
- 21:14That's the same thing every year. If your sapping gets to eight with Red Bull, everybody will always talk that Shoemaker and Hamilton did it with another team.
- 21:22McClaren stayed home the whole time. Hamilton built McLaren.
- 21:28And who did Shoemaker win his other one with? I wouldn't say Hamilton built McLaren. They had quite a lot of success going back to the history of that one.
- 21:35But he brought him back. He was winning with that car. Shoemaker was Jordan.
- 21:41Which became I don't remember after the thing, but that's where Shoemaker started where his first championship was with Jordan.
- 21:46That was the team. And then when he went to Ferrari, there are already dogs.
- 21:50No, no. At that time in the 90s, F1, there wasn't one single person or team dominating throughout the 90s like you have with the Hamilton and Verstappen era and Vettel before that.
- 22:00I thought I thought that their car was running away for a couple of those. Maybe not all of them, maybe a couple of them.
- 22:04I don't think Ferrari had, there was a huge gap in actual driver championships with Ferrari before Hamilton got there.
- 22:12Before Shoemaker got there, if I'm not mistaken. Because Kimi Raikkonen was, he wasn't, not Raikkonen, Heikkonen.
- 22:18He wasn't with the one guy with the mustache. He was with Williams. Senna was with McLaren. But he was in his early 90s where he passed.
- 22:27I don't think Fulke Masso. Yeah, to tie it back in. Where are you going with that? I think that that's in the back of Verstappen's mind.
- 22:36Like just like you're saying, if he wins eight with Red Bull, cool. Cool. You won in the most dominant car every year.
- 22:44Well, and that's just it too. That will be. And there are an asterisks around his first one.
- 22:48Well, I think, I think. Against Hamilton. Give it more time and that's not even going to be talked about. I seriously don't think.
- 22:58I think everyone's going to always think about that. As much as there's an asterisk on that though, as much as there's an asterisk on that,
- 23:04you can also put an asterisk on Lewis's first championship with that person. I don't remember the driver, but there was, they wrecked, which got Lewis into the fifth position.
- 23:11Because Masso won the race and they thought they were celebrating in the garage that they won the championship.
- 23:15And then somebody crashed on the last lap and Lewis got one place more that he needed that secured the championship.
- 23:21That's that's just stuff that's going to happen in racing. I mean, the stuff that happened with.
- 23:26Yes and no, there was a couple of sus crashes in the past few years here. But I mean, the stuff that happened with Verstappen.
- 23:33But that's more of a race incident rather than like what did happen. And I get it. I get it. I get the asterisk. I know why it's there.
- 23:40We're not going to get into that because we've we've already talked about that before, but it's just I don't know.
- 23:45It's still Max's. I think Max deserved the championship, but Lewis deserved to win that race.
- 23:51That's kind of how I feel about that, that final race. But let's get back into trying to GP real quick.
- 23:57We got a couple of things just to touch on. And then we do actually have some news this week.
- 24:03Joe, I kind of want you to touch on real quick. We were just talking about Red Bull.
- 24:06They kind of did that two double stack pits. Like how important is that?
- 24:12Especially I think one of them was during the safety car, was it? I think so.
- 24:16How important is that? I mean, to execute it, it's incredibly important.
- 24:20And they got like their fastest pits of the season so far of any team.
- 24:25Two point one and one point nine and then two point one and two point oh double stacks. That's crazy.
- 24:31NASCAR's like, sorry, I dropped my lug nuts. What did you say?
- 24:33The one point nine tied the world record McLaren set last year.
- 24:36I think it's one point eight for McLaren. Oh, it's one point eight.
- 24:39But the fact that you did that two times on a double stack is insane.
- 24:43Sauber can't even get one pit stop under two point eight.
- 24:47It was under three. It was two point nine. That's progress.
- 24:53And everybody was like the commenters were just jacking them up. Let's go.
- 24:58Hey, you're going somewhere. You're going in the right direction.
- 25:00Bottas looked good for a bit there, though. And until he had his failure.
- 25:04A bit. Yeah, a bit. Yeah.
- 25:06So let's talk about his failure real quick.
- 25:07So how why the heck was there not a virtual safety car the moment he stepped foot out of that car?
- 25:13There was a virtual. Not right away. Virtual there was. No, not right away.
- 25:17No, there's a commenter said it. No, there wasn't. It was a yellow flag right away.
- 25:20There was a full. No, I watched the race in 30 like 10 minutes before I got here.
- 25:24It was the commenters were even saying why there wasn't a virtual because Bottas was on the side of the side
- 25:29of his car and there was like eight cars that were coming up on that corner.
- 25:32I think you're confusing it with a virtual versus a full safety. No, I'm not.
- 25:36Because they called the safety car after the virtual was out because the car they could because the guys got out to the car and they couldn't get it moving.
- 25:42Right. So that's when they called the red flag. They still had a yellow flag, though, at the start.
- 25:45Like when he was on the side, they had a yellow flag, but they didn't even get the virtual out.
- 25:49Yeah, for I think a little while. Yeah, it was because the commenters were saying like how like idiotic it was that there wasn't a virtual.
- 25:55They made a comment. Sure. Like if anybody goes long in that corner, there's a Formula One driver right there.
- 25:59I'm going to die. Watch the race today. I'm going to have to disagree.
- 26:02I think it was a virtual at the bat and they said that I'm pulling a full safety car.
- 26:07I was literally just rewatching the entire race right before this.
- 26:10Why can't I remember when they're ripping around around him still, but it wasn't a full safety car.
- 26:14I'll do I'll bet money on this one because I was going I specifically remembered at the comments on it today.
- 26:22I can find out real quick. I got it open.
- 26:26Well, let's just let's just take a little quick sec here. Do a little research session. We'll get back at it.
- 26:33And we're back at it, of course, after we just looked that up, ended up being yellow flags and then turned into a virtual safety car.
- 26:45That's not me. I'll take that one. That's all right. We're doing that. All right. All right. All right.
- 26:52Let's just let's just go right into it. We got a couple more things to mention about the Chinese Grand Prix here.
- 26:57Of course, I think it was during that same safety car of KMeg going a little bit wide and given Yuki the business there, taking Yuki out of the out of the race.
- 27:08I kind of blame KMeg. Yeah, it took him out of the race. He couldn't make it back.
- 27:13But I kind of blame KMeg on that. Didn't really hold his line at all and just went up the track and took Yuki out.
- 27:19But I think it was during that safety car that Stroll just smashes into Ricardo because it allegedly allegedly Ricardo stomped on his brakes.
- 27:29But it was the first safety car that that happened. It was the Bob-Bot, this one.
- 27:33Yeah, both KMeg going into Yuki and Stroll going into Danny. That happened like pretty close at the same time.
- 27:39OK, I'm confused. But anyway, so what were you guys' thoughts on the whole Stroll run into the back of Danny Rick?
- 27:45Because obviously looking at it, it was just kind of what's Alonso locked up on front, right?
- 27:51Yeah, Alonso locked up and then everybody else kind of just had to slow down.
- 27:56And it's kind of tough because as much as we were not Stroll lovers in this room, it's not really on him. It's tough.
- 28:03I mean, Ricardo almost hit into the back of not Lando, of Piastri. Stroll's a clown. 100% on Stroll, dog. Nobody else made contact.
- 28:13You see how close Ricardo was? There's minor contact throughout a number, like five cars.
- 28:18But the only reason that Ricardo hit Piastri was because Stroll smashed into the back of him.
- 28:23There was a little bit of contact after though, like right after Stroll did that. I thought there was a little bit of contact or it was right before then.
- 28:32So maybe it's that I'm thinking of. But like there was a little bit of like stacking up going on.
- 28:38Stacking up for sure.
- 28:39But I mean, Stroll did smash him, but there was other things going on.
- 28:43Stroll wasn't paying attention. We saw on board, he's looking at the corner when he should be looking right in front of him.
- 28:47You can't overtake under safety car. I don't know why he's not looking in front of him.
- 28:51I actually, I guess I missed that part where I didn't see the whole after look with Stroll. That's why I just heard, honestly at that part, I was just listening.
- 28:58I heard the announcer say that it's blocked up here. He locked up up front. And then I was like, oh, OK.
- 29:03Yeah, it was. It was. Wow. Words. Words are hard.
- 29:08It was funny, though, because in the the breakdown room, the brief room, whatever it was, for Stappen was like, oh, that was my fault.
- 29:14Because he like he had a real slow Excel and then kind of like he didn't fake go, but he kind of like jumped.
- 29:18And then then he went. So everybody behind him was expecting him to take off and he slowed up.
- 29:23I didn't see that. And then Alonzo locking up, he actually evaded. He didn't hit anybody because he evaded.
- 29:29So I don't know if we can really blame Alonzo for that as much as like.
- 29:34But for sure, to come out and say that, like Danny is an idiot. Like, what are we doing?
- 29:38That's that's that's the dumb part for me. Like, if he was just accepted, like it happened, everybody got stacked up, you know.
- 29:45But yeah, to come out and say that. And now Danny Rick has got feelings about it, too, rightfully so.
- 29:51That's something where a lot of other drivers are saying tough.
- 29:55Nothing I could do there. You know, something like that. Like, yeah, 100 percent.
- 29:58And like that's just kind of like Danny Rick, like what the week before when him and at the Japanese Grand Prix, Albon, him and Albon,
- 30:05they both were like, yeah, it just happened, you know, pretty much.
- 30:09That's just like the stroll thing, I feel like, to just be like, what an idiot.
- 30:13Well, if you feel like you got to consistently defend yourself, well, maybe it's time to look in the mirror, buddy.
- 30:21You had stroll saying they all break too early and then you have Danny saying because there was nowhere to go.
- 30:27And then Oscar saying we all yeah, we all had to break that early and none of us crash into each other except for you.
- 30:33So yeah, I don't. Yeah, I mean, it's a prime example of like how an idiotic stroll is for making that comment.
- 30:39When KMeg 100 percent when he hit Yuki 100 percent on KMeg, Yuki's radio message, bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep.
- 30:48I'm out. It wasn't. Oh, what an idiotic Yuki. He's he's one of the more like aggressive guys on the mic.
- 30:53You know, he even was like, oh, shoot, you know, it just sucks for Danny Rick, though,
- 30:57because he was in a prime position to secure a 10th or ninth place here.
- 31:00Good race. And it came out this week that Horner's like it would take a lot for Danny Rick to be in a Red Bull car pretty much like he came out
- 31:08and said something along those lines like he has to have an outstanding season for us to consider him at this point or something,
- 31:14something like that. We like we'd have to look it up, but something along those lines.
- 31:17Like I definitely saw the blip of Horner coming out and saying something about Ricardo needing to pretty much do better.
- 31:23And also, I just saw today, I don't know if you guys saw this, that Audi said that Yuki's on the shortlist if if science is not in Audi.
- 31:34Really? I did not hear that. That's interesting. So on that note, who's the other driver?
- 31:39So there he's on the shortlist if science doesn't join. So it's science or Yuki for the one seat. There's two seats.
- 31:45There's another driver. I have I have a thought in mind for Audi. Hold on. Hold on.
- 31:49Save it for news. Let's let's touch on it in news. We got one more thing to touch on for the Chinese Grand Prix and we'll hit that.
- 31:55I just want Joe quick to touch on Alonzo's late tire swap and what it ended up garnering him. Oh, yeah. Alonzo.
- 32:02Alonzo, if you have something to say. Oh, yeah. Alonzo going for a late tire strategy opposed to pretty much everyone else ends up getting past four people near the end of the race.
- 32:12For like that forty five to fifty getting past four people. Pretty great drive.
- 32:16I remember the commentators stating like how how bad a move it was, how bad a strategy was and how hard he's going to fight. Made it look like light work.
- 32:23He got the job done. I thought watching it, I was like, that sucks. He's not going to get points now.
- 32:28But the reason that I was putting my hand up is I just remembered when he went off and saved and came back when his back tires were in the dirt and he was sideways and saved the same thing that science crashed on.
- 32:42It was insane. And like you watched it real when they went back in the cockpit. How fast his hands jerked to counteract that. Unreal.
- 32:53If only his teammate had the same reaction time. Only he was in a Red Bull. He'd be winning races.
- 32:59No, that was absolutely insane, though. The fact that he's able because the thing is, is people like you see it on TV.
- 33:04You don't realize these guys are going into that corner like a hundred miles per hour.
- 33:08Plus taking that. So you're getting sideways in that car, which is not designed for tight maneuvering. No. To save that is just incredible.
- 33:17And not even that a lot of drivers are shaken up. He passed Hamilton two corners later. He did that happen and then was immediately just went on attack.
- 33:26It's like it didn't happen. It didn't even happen. It was two corners later. It didn't even faze him. He's a robot.
- 33:31And it was honestly stuff like that when he came back and climbed up the kind of how we race this weekend.
- 33:37That's where I'm pulling that energy of put them both in that car. Who's taking the top? Yeah, I would love to see it.
- 33:45Hundred percent. I would I would love for that to happen because I really wish Alonzo would get a shot in the top tier car.
- 33:50I hate that he resigned to it. Aston and less new goes there. But I don't think see that happening at this point.
- 33:57We'll talk about that news. Yeah, that's something for that.
- 33:59Well, hey, we'll talk about that news with that. We'll go to news.
- 34:06And going right into news, Cole had some seem like he had some juicy about Newy right off the bat.
- 34:11Is that what you're talking about? Yes. Another another hot take I saw around everything today.
- 34:17Honest. No, maybe this was yesterday that right now Newy's top landing spot is Aston Martin and Ferrari Mercedes are secondary.
- 34:26So him staying at Red Bull is no longer an option. So I also found out today myself blowing up today.
- 34:34Apparently today I found out that the insiders they're saying that before the Miami Grand Prix this weekend, it'll be announced that Newy is no longer with Red Bull.
- 34:44Yeah. Whoa. What? All I saw about Newy today was like his departure from Red Bull is Red Red Bull.
- 34:50Red Bull is imminent and immediate then like that's it done like doesn't finish the season.
- 34:55I think he'll probably finish the season. It would just be announced that he's no longer going to be like continuing with Red Bull.
- 35:01I mean, it's it's probably written in his contract or some way that Red Bull can keep him for the rest of the year because if he goes in signs with a Mercedes and McLaren or Aston, he's getting all that knowledge now to that car.
- 35:13What if he just pulls the rug out and retires? That's not even that's not even an option. No, there's too many talks about him with other teams right now.
- 35:21Yeah, I think so. Go ahead. No, go ahead, Joe. I would love to see him retire just because we're losing just a great engineer like just gone to the wind, gone birdwatching for the rest of his life or whatever.
- 35:31I think that'd be funny. It's interesting that you say that Aston is first in line because my sources aren't super reliable, but I thought that he's already written them off.
- 35:40It's not one to go. The last thing I saw is that like Red Aston wasn't in contention. That was three weeks ago or something.
- 35:47So that's like 50 years and F1. Probably the most money to offer him. That's the thing too.
- 35:52And I mean, Alonzo, you don't think you want to work with him? The one thing though that Tyler said that kind of stuck out to me today is him pairing, repairing with Hamilton, right?
- 36:07Yeah. So if you look at his ability, his chance to work with Alonzo did that with McLaren when he was there with Lewis. So he has had that opportunity before. But I think if him retiring, I don't think is any question because I think if he's going to leave Red Bull, he's going to do it for one reason.
- 36:24And that's legacy. Can he produce and win at another team like he is right now at or sorry at Red Bull? Now you look at what he did with McLaren. He left McLaren in 2005.
- 36:34If I'm not mistaken, Lewis's first championship. What year was it? 2007. Something like that. It's right there. Right in those couple years. And you were saying he was with him for that, right?
- 36:50I say it depends on when when McLaren or sorry when Lewis won his first one. But he also so the name I was trying to find earlier when I said Reichen and it's Mika Heikinen. So he won in 80 or 98 and 99 and knew he was a part of that McLaren team.
- 37:05Yeah, McLaren won 2008 World Driver champion.
- 37:10OK, so he was gone from McLaren when Lewis won, but he's still like he left in 2005. So we still worked with Lewis when Lewis went to McLaren. So right now what you're saying about McLaren and Newy, are you trying to hint that you think you might go to McLaren?
- 37:24No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm just saying. So when you said that back on what you said about Alonzo, he's worked with Alonzo before. So it wouldn't be like a new chance. It would be a new chance at it. But it's like not the first time he would work with Alonzo.
- 37:36So that's where I was trying to build. I guess that kind of builds my point a little bit because what I was tailoring to your point was the fact that because he worked with Hamilton, that was kind of your point around him working back with Hamilton, right?
- 37:48I think is you got to also remember how long is Alonzo on each team. Right. He signs a one or two year deal and then he goes to a new team. He didn't get a full change. He didn't work with with Hamilton as much as Newy and Hamilton work together.
- 38:01So that's more of my point that they've always kept the relationship. OK. So where's your official like, where do you think he ends up? I think he's going to Ferrari. I think he's going to rehash with Lewis.
- 38:12I think the thing that hurts him most about Aston is if he's going to build a legacy, as long as Lawrence Stroll is the owner of that team, you are not going to contend for the team constructor championship.
- 38:23And I think that the team championship, right? As long as he's the owner, as long as Lawrence Stroll is, because as long as as sorry as long as as long as Lawrence is the owner, Lance has a seat in that other spot.
- 38:33So, yeah, you get Alonzo who could compete if he had left Alonzo has the best car in the grade. He probably will win the WDC. Right. He probably would. But where's Lance going to finish?
- 38:43Is it going to be enough for Aston to win the team championship? And I think that matters more to Newy than, say, an individual champion. And that's why you think he would also leave Red Bull.
- 38:51No, I think I mean, Red Bull gives him the best chance to continue it. I think if he's going to be. Yes. And yes. Why he would leave Red Bull was to build that legacy and say, hey, I can do it at another team.
- 39:02But not another team, not necessarily a driver. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I gotcha.
- 39:06So you think if he went basically to Aston and even if Alonzo wins because Stroll is not able to put them on top, that it could hurt him?
- 39:14As much as what I mean, personally, I don't I don't think so. But I think in the grand scheme of things, if he were to go to like a Ferrari and Lewis and LeClerc finish one, two, one, three, win the team champion, the constructor championship, I think that matters more than an individual person success.
- 39:31I got something absolutely stupid to say, but do you think like a team like Saber has any dark horse chance at it? No, no. Just with the new new regime.
- 39:46I don't think they have any chance, but I want to kind of just rebuttal that a little bit is with Newy trying to build legacy, wouldn't it? Like right now, Ferrari is not that they're pretty close or obviously not super close to Red Bull.
- 39:58But it wouldn't be as big of a challenge for Newy to go in and make them a championship team as it would be to make Aston. 100% in 20, 30 years. If you're talking about him, you're not going to talk about where the team's performance was when they took over.
- 40:11You're going to talk about him switching teams and making that team a championship team. Yeah, fair. So according to Tyler, that will be Ferrari. I would love to see him at Aston, though.
- 40:22Like I would. That's where I'd want him to go, because I'd love to see him put some effort into that car and get that car to top tier championship or top tier level simply so Alonzo can win races.
- 40:33It'd be cool to see him to win one more on the way out. It would be. I would love so much for Alonzo to just like win a championship for sure. That would be dope. But even if he could just snag a couple race wins in a year, like that would be super sweet.
- 40:46Do you think he can only do that if Newy comes on board at this point? I mean, I don't know if I would. That's a tough. That's a tough question, right? Like 100%. I think it depends on where Newy is. If he's not at Aston, right. He goes to Ferrari and gets a car that is almost at that level and just puts them over the top.
- 41:08So side note to this, obviously we're talking about where Newy is going to go. Where do you think Red Bull goes if or maybe at this point when he leaves?
- 41:18It's going to be a whole new car for Red Bull. I mean, they got Ford in 2026 with the regulation changes. You know, it's up in the air. I have no idea where they could. I'm hoping. I'm hoping to God that they're not dominant.
- 41:30The worst thing that could happen is Newy leaves Red Bull and he doesn't perform at the new team. I'm taking that as a possibility because I feel like we've seen that happen with drivers. Obviously, he's definitely. Newy's shown that he can make the best car ever.
- 41:44But can he do that with the different components or the different values? The different resources that a different team might have. He was said to go to Red Bull because of the freedom and the culture there.
- 41:58That's going to be different at a different team. What if he's he just can't, you know, I think if Newy's coming into your team, though, you're going to let him write the culture.
- 42:06And if you want to talk about culture, who has a bigger culture? Who has a bigger culture than Ferrari? That's what I'm saying. I don't think they're going to let him rewrite it.
- 42:13Yeah, they're not going to let him rewrite it. But hopefully they'll give him control of the car, you know.
- 42:18Do you think they wouldn't?
- 42:20I mean, I think they would, but like, I don't know if the culture at Ferrari is going to be the same at Red Bull. Obviously, the culture in the past month or two has been bad at Red Bull.
- 42:29But yeah, I think a lot of that has to do with like if Newy goes, how much of Newy's team is he going to bring with them? How many engineers are going to be left at Red Bull? Does Red Bull already have a replacement in mind that Newy is bringing up or Newy helping out?
- 42:43You know, I think if this is going to be a mutual agreement per se, now I know in the past I've said there's no such thing as a mutual agreement. In this case, nobody's firing Adrian Newy, right? If he's leaving, it's mutual.
- 42:53It sounds like he's going to bring a team with him, I think, right?
- 42:57So I think that's the biggest thing is how many of Newy's little minds that he's creating and developing into this.
- 43:03His minions.
- 43:04How many of those leave or how many can stay there and help build what Newy had already going and plant that for the future? Or if Newy does go to like, say, a Ferrari, does Red Bull, do you think Newy and that Ferrari head engineer are going to be good together or does Red Bull grab one of the top engineers wherever he goes?
- 43:22And does Newy start, this is kind of a separate question, but does Newy start focusing on the car they currently have or does he solely just think about 2026 when he gets into that new team?
- 43:31I think that's going to be a direction of the team more so than anything.
- 43:35It depends. I would say direction team also depends on the team. If it's Ferrari, he's going in there focusing on that car and revamping anything they're doing to make it better to win that year.
- 43:45Okay, for sure.
- 43:46But in the same regard, though, to what these new regulations coming, is that why Newy's leaving?
- 43:52Is he worried that bringing in that Ford engine and these new regulations coming into play, is that going to be like too much of a start fresh?
- 44:01Nah, not well. I mean, if he goes to Ferrari, you could always think that.
- 44:06Maybe you could think that that was a possibility.
- 44:08Yeah, maybe there were some seeds of doubt when Ford came on board and then the Horner stuff happened and that just kind of sealed the deal.
- 44:14Turned him off?
- 44:15Yeah.
- 44:16I mean, maybe.
- 44:17I don't know.
- 44:18Or does that even have to do with the possibility of losing Max?
- 44:22And the uncertainty of who's going to be in that second seat even at this point. Just the uncertainty of Red Bull all together.
- 44:28Next season to end going into the new regulations, maybe. Maybe that's why.
- 44:33And losing Helmut.
- 44:36How much would that matter to Newy?
- 44:38Are we going to witness the fall of Red Bull just entirely?
- 44:42I think as long as they have number one on that behind that driver wheel, we can't
- 44:47we can't say it's going to be a fall, but I would kind of love it.
- 44:52My socks have been inside out all year. I'm ready for it.
- 44:55I was like, Gold's looking over here. He's just shaking right now. He's so excited about the possibility.
- 45:00I'm practicing like I want snow the next day to miss school. Socks are inside out. I'm wearing some socks on my hands.
- 45:05See what happens. I'll let you know if the luck pays off here.
- 45:09That's a good point, though. Max, like if Max has anything to do with it whatsoever and Max does decide to leave Red Bull,
- 45:16is he going to go to the same team Adrian's on? Because I mean, Ferrari's full up for the foreseeable future.
- 45:22So if Newy has that in mind at all, he's not going to go to Ferrari. He's going to go to wherever he thinks he can make it.
- 45:28That he doesn't have seats, you know, taken. Only Merck. Yeah, it's only Merck.
- 45:33It's either it's yeah, it's either Merck or does he want to take a chance at Audi?
- 45:38Yeah, I just don't see. That's what I mean. That's what I was saying.
- 45:43Like maybe he does. Why? Like why? Just or is he just like old and grumpy now?
- 45:49He just let that money retire. Let's let's say science to Sabra next year because Sabra is becoming Audi.
- 45:54That makes it a lot. Science to a two, three year deal at Sabra next year.
- 45:58And then behind the scenes, they know they're going to get Sebastian Vettel.
- 46:02That makes it a lot harder. That makes it a lot harder. So you have all regulations and brand new car.
- 46:07You're talking to have that in place and like have to tell him that now that this is the plan.
- 46:12This is the go forward and we'd love to have you on board type deal.
- 46:15But I love silly season just because there's like how much of these talks are going on behind closed doors.
- 46:20This talk is silly right now. Like our Verstappen and Newey talking right now saying, hey, I'm going here.
- 46:25So you're going to feel like it just I'd love to be a bug in the wall and just all this conversation.
- 46:29You guys got to watch Rush if you haven't yet. Oh, Rush is good.
- 46:32This is this is the stuff that happens behind the scenes that you hear and they're like, oh, I got to find them a team.
- 46:36I do all this is it's cool. All right. All right. All right. Next bit of news.
- 46:39Next bit of news, because the next three kind of all not tie into each other.
- 46:42Next two for sure. But Holkenberg joining stake F1 team kick Saber.
- 46:49One, what does that do to Bata's?
- 46:51I think we all kind of know what's going to happen was this prize last year.
- 46:55But what does that do to Bata's and to around that? Good for Holtman.
- 46:59He earned that this year so far. I think he earned that spot.
- 47:03He did. Now, is that a do you do you guys know is that a one year deal?
- 47:06I don't know what the deal would like in terms of earning it. It is a two.
- 47:09So he is going to be through twenty twenty seven.
- 47:12So he's going to be on the first year Audi to pretty sure.
- 47:15So in terms of like earning it, though, like what is going to stake from Haas?
- 47:20How is that a like promotion?
- 47:22Just get excited. I mean, there's got to be excitement around the team.
- 47:24Or earned a spot on the grid this year is what I'm saying.
- 47:27Oh, OK. OK. OK. Yeah.
- 47:30I think that's a great point.
- 47:31I think also something to note is that Hulk has history with Audi
- 47:37and I think Audi picked him for the car.
- 47:40I don't think I don't think kick picked him. I think Audi picked up.
- 47:42What's the history? I don't know. I'll have to look it up.
- 47:44I know for a fact they have history because it was mentioned everywhere when we were looking.
- 47:48I'll check. So wait.
- 47:50I might be sideways here. Kick is turning into Audi, right? Correct. Right.
- 47:56So is we need to verify it. Is he for sure going to be on there till 2027?
- 48:01Is he going to be on there when it turns out? So I mean, is it one year or two years?
- 48:04Because I thought it was 2027. I'll look it up right now. OK.
- 48:07I think I think it is too. But yeah, my point was, I think the way Hulk is racing this year,
- 48:12obviously we didn't really touch on it too much.
- 48:14But I mean, 10th this last race, he's the reason that Haas is doing as good as they are.
- 48:19He's the reason why like even people like us are mentioning Haas right now.
- 48:22Yeah. And he like what I meant by deserved it and earned it is he earned a spot on the grid
- 48:28for the next couple of years for sure. Right. He's he's earned to keep his job.
- 48:32So after looking into it, it didn't it doesn't confirm like a number of years,
- 48:36but it has a multi-year contract that will see him for Sauber in 2025
- 48:40and then take over for the German manufacturer Audi for 2026 and behind.
- 48:44So the connection is he's German. German. So it's at least two.
- 48:49It's at least two. Yeah, he's confirmed to be the first Audi driver.
- 48:54So let's so let's roll that right into the next one. Then is it Carlos?
- 48:59If it's not Carlos, who the heck is it? So to answer your question, what happens to Botas?
- 49:03I mean, if science is going in, Botas is gone. Botas is out. You might get picked up.
- 49:09I mean, he's got one more year, right? Like Botas is good for next year.
- 49:12No, no, no, he's not. I could see him get swapped for K-Mag maybe.
- 49:16Like I could see that maybe happening. I don't think cost wants to get two new drivers on their team.
- 49:21I think they want at least one person that has a little bit of history.
- 49:24I think Botas is probably better than K-Mag. So I can see a switch happening.
- 49:28That's like super. That's like.
- 49:30But if that doesn't happen, I also think K-Mag could keep the seat.
- 49:33That was just like, like, hey, this could happen kind of.
- 49:36I think we might see maybe like an Ocon or something like that go over there.
- 49:41I don't I don't think K-Mag earned himself a spot on a team.
- 49:45So I mean, I'm not sure if K-Mag is coming back.
- 49:48I think if K-Mag is on the grid next year, it's in a Haas with an Oli Bearman as the other driver to have that veteran with the rookie.
- 49:54But K-Mag is in. I don't think K-Mag has a seat anywhere but a Haas.
- 49:57That's interesting, though. Botas to a Haas is an interesting thought.
- 50:01The thing with that, though, is like, where does he go back to Saber?
- 50:04How much more money does Botas command than Magnuson for Haas to make it worth it?
- 50:09Because five million dollars, Haas is a heck of a lot of money.
- 50:12And they also turn down Ricardo because he costs too much.
- 50:16Right. But Botas.
- 50:18I think Botas has maybe gotten into a position where he's like, hey, you know, I'm kind of I don't I don't think he's fighting for a seat.
- 50:25I think his name still carries weight.
- 50:27I mean, he won second place in many years.
- 50:30His resume speaks for itself. How many wins does K-Mag or Hulk have?
- 50:35Yeah, that's a good point. I don't think I don't think they have wins.
- 50:38They don't. Straight up.
- 50:39To be no to be fair, Botas got his wins in Mercedes, 100 percent.
- 50:42But to also be fair, unlike Max pretty much sweeping the entire year, it was like it was a Botas race and then.
- 50:50Yeah, he would like won it once every four or five.
- 50:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's more than Paris can say for 100 percent.
- 50:56Right. So I think it's an definitely interesting conversation.
- 51:00I hope Botas has a seat. I love seeing that mullet on the grid.
- 51:03I would hate to see it go.
- 51:05I think he's probably going to be a host driver. Yeah, he would fit right in.
- 51:09But I think to like prez is one will never be to Verstappen what Botas was to Lewis.
- 51:16And that's I mean, it just he I think he has a spot on the grid as long as he wants one.
- 51:22Yeah, just for yeah, just for his resume.
- 51:25Again, it might be on a lower seed team like Kickstarter.
- 51:28But do they do they sign him now for one more year at least or do they reward him a little bit?
- 51:33Do they give him the two sweetened it up, give him a little two year, little two year deal.
- 51:37First year of Audi. See what happens or do you think they got their eyes set on somebody else?
- 51:43Other than Carlos, you would imagine, I mean, that that is actually have happened, right?
- 51:47Like they've offered Carlos a deal. Oh, yeah.
- 51:49They offer Carlos the bag, didn't they offer to him like a while ago?
- 51:53Yeah, and I'm sure that offers only increased after his like success he's had this year
- 51:57and all the other teams trying to grab him. Hopefully.
- 51:59Yeah, I mean, I think it's it's Carlos's seat to have at this point.
- 52:03He's just waiting if a better opportunity comes along like the Red Bull seat.
- 52:09Well, isn't it wasn't the talks around that that car not Carlos.
- 52:14Yeah, Carlos wasn't the talks around Carlos that he got offered just a crazy amount from Audi.
- 52:22It was like like 100 million a year or something. It was stupid.
- 52:25So. I mean. That now is the same question we asked earlier.
- 52:31What does Carlos want to do? Does he want a shot at a championship
- 52:34or does he want to make a ton of money and be a F1 driver?
- 52:36If he's not in a Red Bull and he doesn't really have a shot to be in a Red Bull,
- 52:40I think he's he wants to get paid. I would agree.
- 52:43Probably like you're saying it's Red Bull or you're taking that Audi deal.
- 52:46Red Bull. You're taking the Marlowe's said right now.
- 52:48Red Bull of the bag. Yeah, I think he definitely has a shot to be in a Red Bull.
- 52:51I just think. I mean, they can't match his offer, so yeah, we have to be in the mind of signs
- 52:58to figure out, you know, what he really wants because they know. Go ahead.
- 53:02Yeah, I was going to say, like, if you want to get in the mind of signs a little bit
- 53:05back when he went to Ferrari, it was to start winning, to be in that big team, to be with Ferrari.
- 53:11I don't think his mindset has changed there.
- 53:13I think if Red Bull gives him a decent enough offer, I think he's going to Red Bull.
- 53:17Well, Horner also came out and said that they like they've been in talks with signs
- 53:22and they cannot offer as much as Saudi. Yeah, it's Saudi as Audi.
- 53:27Probably some Saudi backing their salary. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:30Sauer and Audi is where I was going. Maybe he does.
- 53:32Maybe he just takes that dive in, dives into Audi and takes a chance.
- 53:36And he has to make that decision soon because I don't think I think there's a time limit on that Audi deal.
- 53:40I think they want to find out. I think I think they want to find something to do.
- 53:44I think they're willing to wait if it's Carlos. I think they're willing to wait.
- 53:47But if they wait, is everybody else gone that you would be targeting?
- 53:50I don't know. I don't know who that is. Who else?
- 53:52I think all of this is dependent. Yeah.
- 53:54The chips start falling when Max Verstappen makes a decision.
- 53:58If Max Verstappen is not being taken up that Red Bull salary,
- 54:02they can sure as shit pay Carlos what he's requesting at Audi.
- 54:05Yeah. Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 54:07So that's where that's where the cards lie here.
- 54:09It says, what is Verstappen going to do?
- 54:11And Verstappen's made it known that he wants to stay with Red Bull.
- 54:14Yeah, I don't think he's leaving.
- 54:15You know, which which avenue hurts science more?
- 54:19Going to Audi or going to Red Bull?
- 54:25What do you want with your career?
- 54:27I don't I don't think it's that easy.
- 54:29Because I think 2026 is a whole different ballgame.
- 54:33100 percent. You don't know.
- 54:35You have no idea. You have no idea if the Red Bull card is going to be any good.
- 54:39And especially if Nui's like, why would you go to Red Bull if Nui's not there?
- 54:45I think he'll take the Audi deal personally.
- 54:48But science? Yeah.
- 54:50I think I think they offer him a good enough deal.
- 54:55And I think I think he wants to go to I think he wants to win and get wins.
- 54:59I think he loves winning and he wants to keep getting wins.
- 55:01He wants to go to Red Bull. He's just be fun to see if he could compete with Max.
- 55:06In a Red Bull. It'd be fun to see if that gap between Max and Sergio is smaller between Max and Carlos.
- 55:12But it would be super dope to see Carlos sign a one year deal with Red Bull.
- 55:16See what he can do. Like, obviously, he's going to perform.
- 55:19And then with the 2026 regulations, see how the Red Bull car is looking in the future and kind of go from there.
- 55:25It's not going to happen. Red Bull is not going to sign.
- 55:27I just say if he did that and then left, then that would be a sign to everybody else like, whoa, Red Bull don't got it now.
- 55:33So I don't know. Or does he go to Red Bull, see what he can do to compete, grab some wins, maybe fight for the WDC, get a championship per se, build that legacy and then go chase the bag?
- 55:43Is he going to fight with Max? I'm not getting to that level. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying he would.
- 55:47It's like shooing for him to get it. But I mean, I don't know.
- 55:51I just don't think Red Bull is going to sign any driver outside of check.
- 55:53Oh, right now to a one year deal. Fair. Fair.
- 55:56And I don't think they'll sign check with him more than a one year deal. Yeah.
- 55:59And that's fair. Let's just roll right into this rumor here that Kimi Intinelli, Tyler's boy, could replace Logan Sergeant, Logan Lieutenant after Miami or Imola.
- 56:15What do we make of that rumor? Is it true? Is there any truth to this?
- 56:18Yeah. So I'm the one that found the rumor. I think after doing just a little bit of a little bit more research, I think after Miami is probably like right after Miami is what I heard the rumors go.
- 56:28I think that's probably a little too far fetched. Kimi's only 17. Technically, he can't race until he's 18 when he can get a super license.
- 56:36I think there's an exception. I think they're trying to make an exception for him. But yeah, rumor has it Mercedes want to get him into Williams.
- 56:42I think Logan's seat is a safe one to give him. See how he does, you know, get him the time in the seat and hopefully get him ready for Mercedes eventually.
- 56:51I would absolutely love that is, you know, Kimi is my boy. But so you had mentioned in there just a little debrief there that Verstappen made the got the exception at 17.
- 57:01The age requirement for it to go to 18 was after Verstappen got granted that at 17. So the regulations change. So they after just doing a quick research here, there is a way that you can, you know, like try to have an exception.
- 57:15However, the exception is usually if you have not qualified enough after your super license points to make that exception, it'd be very hard for you to get to passed on age.
- 57:26We also got to think as well. It's 2024. We're not in the age of the 80s and 90s where people don't care about that type of thing.
- 57:32Like as irrelevant as it is, people would put up a stink because we got a 17 year old in the F1 car when he's in an F2 car that goes like 30 to 40 miles per hour less. The danger is still there.
- 57:45You know, so I would love for it to happen, but it would take Mercedes pulling a lot of freaking strings.
- 57:52And I mean, the last guy that passed away was in an F2 car like four years ago.
- 57:56Right. If you want to like if you want to compare it like that, that's why I think it's dumb. In my opinion, if he's able to race it and he can, you know, they want to pull him up, I think you should pull him up.
- 58:05But also, isn't he not having a great start to the season in F2?
- 58:09Yeah, he's in ninth right now in F2. I don't think you can put too much into that.
- 58:14However, just because it's a completely different racecraft, like at the F2 level, the cars are all at the same level, which doesn't hurt his case in this argument or doesn't help his case in this argument.
- 58:23But doing well in F2, doesn't that how you get pulled up to F1?
- 58:27Well, Nick DeVries was an F2 championship and lasted what six, seven races in F2. I think it's more of the I think it's more of like the promise or the talent of the future with this.
- 58:36We also have to remember this cat 17 years old, right? What does his future hold with how he's going to progress if you put him at the pinnacle?
- 58:42And why are we trying to rush it? You know, why do you have to rush it? You don't necessarily have to.
- 58:47I 100% agree with that. I think that he should stay at F2, just get his bearings, get more of that experience and then come to a even if it's Williams next year, right?
- 58:55They have two seats open. Nobody signed for Williams next year. I don't think he's shown enough in F2 to come into a Mercedes.
- 59:01But I think it's it's Mercedes has to keep them under their belt.
- 59:04But has has Sargent performed poorly enough to pull him before the season's out?
- 59:10I'm going to refer to my co-panelist here, Cole.
- 59:13What was that?
- 59:15He's not even listening. Not even listening.
- 59:17Damn, what did I say?
- 59:19Has Sargent performed good enough this year to prevent them signing Nakimi?
- 59:23Or like prevent them from pulling Sargent before the end of this season? Has he done enough?
- 59:27Yeah, I mean, they pulled Nick the free and he had a better season than Sargent had.
- 59:33And this is Sargent's second season.
- 59:35That was a Christian Horner, though.
- 59:37That's that was a hundred percent Christian Horner and Helmut Marku or Helmut Marco said that opposite with the vowels.
- 59:45But either way, I mean, like they didn't really give Nick the read a chance.
- 59:49And this guy is he's a year and a quarter of the way in at this point, like showing no signs of improvement.
- 59:56The end of the day. Our homeland.
- 59:57How long are you wasting?
- 59:59How long are you wasting on somebody that is not going to have a spot next year?
- 1:00:04Or not try to get somebody else into that spot this year?
- 1:00:07That's that's what I mean.
- 1:00:08Like, is it time to pull the plug on Sargent? I mean, this is hold a lot of weight.
- 1:00:12Like, is this a potential possibility?
- 1:00:14But with the regulations changing after first step and I didn't know that that's got to make it extremely challenging.
- 1:00:20Like you said, unless Mercedes is doing a lot of under the table stuff.
- 1:00:23It's also Toto Wolf.
- 1:00:25Yeah, right, dude.
- 1:00:27I think in all.
- 1:00:29Yeah, I think in reality, we're going to see we're probably going to see we're probably going to see Kimi, not Nicky Kimi.
- 1:00:41We're probably going to see him come in after he's 18, get super license points and then maybe get a Williams seat next year.
- 1:00:47He already has enough super license points to qualify for the seat.
- 1:00:50It's simply just age at this point.
- 1:00:52Really? So maybe they have a super license.
- 1:00:55Yeah, right. So to get the super license points, you have to accumulate enough points.
- 1:00:59You have to meet a requirement to get a super license.
- 1:01:01OK, so you have to accumulate enough points in the junior circuits, F2, F3 to you.
- 1:01:05You earn super license points by that.
- 1:01:08You can't get a super license points and then get your super license and then get points because it's you already have it.
- 1:01:13That makes sense. I just remember Logan having to go through that.
- 1:01:16He had to he had to be put in the car in F1 to get super license points.
- 1:01:20He had to do laps. Yeah, so maybe he wasn't doing too hot in F2 beforehand.
- 1:01:25Maybe it's like does the free practices give you any points?
- 1:01:30Yes, yeah. So Kimi just did practice laps for Mercedes, not commissioned in F1 or whatever it was in a race, but he just raced.
- 1:01:38I think it was one of Hamilton's cars.
- 1:01:40He was just doing practice. I don't know if that would qualify.
- 1:01:43I'd have to like do a whole lot of deep dive in terms of how these points are made.
- 1:01:46Maybe I'll do that for next next week. Talk about it a little bit more maybe if hey, maybe Logan's gone next week.
- 1:01:53Who knows? Yeah, so it's actually right here.
- 1:01:55The 17 year old recently tested for two days with the Mercedes W12.
- 1:01:58So it's 2021. Yeah, interesting.
- 1:02:02And there's more tests coming. There's more scheduled tests coming in the 2022 W13.
- 1:02:08I think just move away from Sergeant if you can earlier. Good. With who though?
- 1:02:14This boy right here. He can't do it right now.
- 1:02:16Like I'm assuming they can't make it. I think you don't do it unless you can put him in the car.
- 1:02:21Probably. I don't know what else you would do. That makes sense. That's for my. Yeah.
- 1:02:25Yeah. Yeah. With that, we have to wrap this news up.
- 1:02:30We got to head into our Miami preview real quick. Thanks for hanging with us.
- 1:02:34Let's hit it.
- 1:02:36And with the Miami preview, of course, that comes with Joe's Miami GP history.
- 1:02:42What we got? Yeah. And you know, I like starting these recaps off with a little bit of trivia.
- 1:02:46Miami is the 11th different Grand Prix venue in the United States
- 1:02:50and the 77th different venue to host F1 World Championship Grand Prix.
- 1:02:55I'm looking at these statistics. Obviously, we've only had Miami for two years.
- 1:02:59So safety car probability is 100 percent.
- 1:03:01Virtual safety car is also 100 percent. So we might be in for an interesting race, guys.
- 1:03:06We're in for some carnage.
- 1:03:08Um, besides that kind of a boring race last year, I kind of just go through a couple of facts with you.
- 1:03:14So the start, we saw Perez Alonso and signs. It was a 57 lap race.
- 1:03:18I think Perez, he's just a killer on street tracks most of the time.
- 1:03:21So we're probably going to see him up there again.
- 1:03:24We saw both McLarens outside of the top 10.
- 1:03:26Hamilton also starting outside of the top 10.
- 1:03:28Max starting in ninth and K-Mag starting in fourth.
- 1:03:31I remember he had a crazy qualifying session.
- 1:03:34I can't remember if something happened in qualifying. I would assume probably.
- 1:03:38But yeah, Haas showing up for their home race.
- 1:03:42All right. First turn lap one, we saw only being a little bit messy near the back of the field,
- 1:03:47the massive lockup from De Vries into Norris, all while the top three kept their places
- 1:03:52and seeing K-Mag fall down the grid a good few places.
- 1:03:55Max went from ninth to sixth in the last, in the first three laps rather, overtaking while cars fight ahead of him.
- 1:04:01And then we saw Max pass signs for third on lap 14 and then pass Alonso for second on lap 15,
- 1:04:07showing just what a monster Red Bull was.
- 1:04:103.5 seconds from Perez in first.
- 1:04:13We saw signs unfortunately lock up in the start of the pit lane and gets caught with a penalty for pit lane speeding.
- 1:04:18To add insult to energy, Alonso also takes that place back from second to third.
- 1:04:22To add insult to energy, Alonso also takes that place back from signs on lap 28.
- 1:04:28K-Mag had fallen back near tenth, but was consistently fighting and defending from Leclerc for points
- 1:04:35and was able to do so until up until about lap 37.
- 1:04:38This is where Charles finally took the place.
- 1:04:40At the same time, we saw Russell with a bit more pace overtaking signs for fourth on lap 37,
- 1:04:45showing his Merc had a little bit of strength on the track.
- 1:04:48Max finally pits from his original hards on lap 45 of 57.
- 1:04:52That's 45 laps on a single tire.
- 1:04:55And he was gaining on Perez that whole time.
- 1:04:58So Perez had pit, he was about five, I think he gained about five seconds from when Perez had pitted.
- 1:05:04When he pit for his new mediums, he was about 18 seconds ahead of Perez.
- 1:05:09Versteppen does come out behind Perez, but only 0.7 behind him.
- 1:05:13On the first turn of lap 48, Max gets ahead of Perez for first place, again starting ninth on the grid.
- 1:05:19So our final was Max, Checo, and then Alonso, and then Russell, and then signs.
- 1:05:23Max was five seconds ahead of Checo.
- 1:05:25Checo was 20 seconds ahead of Alonso.
- 1:05:27So I think we're foreshadowing a little bit.
- 1:05:30Red Bull's probably going to be pretty dominant on this track.
- 1:05:33Signs was able to stay far enough ahead of Hamilton for the penalty to not affect him.
- 1:05:37And we saw Alpine and K-Mag filled the last few point spots at the end of the race.
- 1:05:42I don't think we're going to see this for Alpine, although they did show a little bit more strength last race.
- 1:05:46But Haas, we might see a fight for Haas this weekend. That'd be awesome.
- 1:05:50See Haas get some points, you're saying?
- 1:05:52Yeah.
- 1:05:53Yeah. I think I'm looking for Alonso, honestly, to make some moves this week.
- 1:05:58But I'm sorry, were you done?
- 1:05:59No, go ahead.
- 1:06:00No, I'm just saying, I think I'm making for...
- 1:06:03LOL, I can't talk either words.
- 1:06:06I'm looking at Alonso maybe battling...
- 1:06:09Depends on who's going to be better, the two between Ferrari and McLaren.
- 1:06:13But battling one of them, I think he's going to be sniffing them a little bit.
- 1:06:17And giving them a little bit of the business, to be honest.
- 1:06:20Yeah, looking forward, I do have a couple of personal callouts.
- 1:06:23And one of them was Alonso. He had a really good race last year.
- 1:06:26I see him having a good race this year.
- 1:06:28I definitely see him beating the Mercedes.
- 1:06:30I don't know if I see him beating McLaren though.
- 1:06:33And then kind of going into McLaren, had a bad race last year.
- 1:06:36Both of them, it was still very early in the season, both of them finished I think like 19th and then 16th.
- 1:06:42A bit stronger this year, so very hesitant to see...
- 1:06:47I'm very hesitant to put one of them on the podium, but I'm hoping they're close to it at least.
- 1:06:52The thing about last year with McLaren,
- 1:06:54can't really look at the first half of the year in terms of projecting this year.
- 1:06:57No doubt.
- 1:06:58Because the car was completely different coming out of the summer break.
- 1:07:01And McLaren is bringing their first major upgrade this weekend in Miami.
- 1:07:05Let's go.
- 1:07:06So I mean, they're not going to fight with the Red Bulls,
- 1:07:09but Lando showed last week or two weeks ago, last race, he can get that number two spot.
- 1:07:14Right? So he's not going to fight with Max, but I could see Lando get grabbing a podium here and Oscar finishing top five.
- 1:07:21You look at Oscar last race even, I mean, if he didn't take that little bit of...
- 1:07:24Oscar top five?
- 1:07:25I think Oscar can grab a top five.
- 1:07:27So Oscar, you think if you're saying if Lando hits podium, you think Oscar splits the Ferrari.
- 1:07:32I do.
- 1:07:33Ooh.
- 1:07:34I think there's a chance.
- 1:07:35I mean, I'm not predicting that, but I think there's a good chance.
- 1:07:38Let's see what this upgrade does.
- 1:07:40Right? Let's say if it's a major upgrade and that car looked real good.
- 1:07:43Last race, even Oscar, he took damage when Stroll and Ricardo got bumped up.
- 1:07:47So his car wasn't where he couldn't fight towards the end to try to move up.
- 1:07:50He grabbed a P7 if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:07:52He still looked good. Yeah.
- 1:07:53So he still looked good.
- 1:07:55I mean, he was able to keep that spot after damage.
- 1:07:58I think McLaren is definitely trying to right some wrongs for Miami,
- 1:08:02just because this is the history section of the pod.
- 1:08:05To give you a little bit insight into 2022, Lando did not finish and Danny got 13th.
- 1:08:11So has not been a good track for McLaren so far.
- 1:08:14I'd love to see them break that trend.
- 1:08:16This year would be...
- 1:08:18Would be the year.
- 1:08:19It's looking like they're going to break that trend.
- 1:08:20Yeah, hopefully that big upgrade.
- 1:08:21They learn from their mistakes, that upgrade, you know, place of the strengths.
- 1:08:24The upgrade would have to like fry the engine in both cars.
- 1:08:27I would have to agree entirely with Alonso,
- 1:08:31especially with how like turny and technical this track can be on a lot of it.
- 1:08:34Obviously, there's that big straightaway on the back end.
- 1:08:37Alonso is going to excel on track like this.
- 1:08:39That is a driver I think we might see a top five.
- 1:08:42I know that's a stretch with all the cars up there, but just pure skill alone.
- 1:08:48I don't know.
- 1:08:49That's I don't know my gut, but I know we're not giving points for top fives.
- 1:08:53But I would love to see Alonso compete for a podium.
- 1:08:56I just don't.
- 1:08:57I just don't think the car is there with how good the McLaren,
- 1:09:00Red Bull and Ferrari look right now.
- 1:09:02And I would love to see him finish on a podium or top five.
- 1:09:06I just I just don't see it with where that car is.
- 1:09:09For sure. Any last thoughts on before we get into the podium for for Miami?
- 1:09:15Any teams that we need to look out for? We know Alpine is going to suck.
- 1:09:18I'll just mirror Haas. Haas always excels here.
- 1:09:21Their top line speed is usually pretty good.
- 1:09:23Nico going to keep proving why he's staying on the grid next year and maybe get a point.
- 1:09:28Nico's 910 this year, not nine or 10.
- 1:09:30It sucks for sucks for KMag this last race, too, because he's had a really good year in that car.
- 1:09:36And, you know, that one mistake, it was on him.
- 1:09:39But he pretty much had a point finish in that last race, too, if he didn't spin out Yuki and mess his car up.
- 1:09:44And Yuki is another guy that could be fighting for a point or two.
- 1:09:48You see Ricky, Danny Rick, too. He loves American races.
- 1:09:51He loves coming to America. Yuki, Danny Rick.
- 1:09:54And then I've liked what Albon shown us this year.
- 1:09:57It can't be a lot, but he hasn't shown me anything. That's fine.
- 1:10:00Degress from last year, if anything.
- 1:10:02I think he's going into this. I thought Albon had a really, really, really good chance at that second Red Bull seat.
- 1:10:08Well, not right now. No way. I think Carlos is the only move right now that they want.
- 1:10:12But anyway, we're going to get off on another tangent.
- 1:10:14You have the podium tracker pulled up by church. Sure do.
- 1:10:17Well, why don't you start us off? Where's your podium?
- 1:10:19So just recapping from last week. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:22All of us actually got two points. None of us guessed.
- 1:10:25Well, actually, the one person who guessed Lando Smeltie guessed LeClair finishing on the podium.
- 1:10:30So everybody got two points last week, so nothing changes.
- 1:10:33Joe still in first with 10. I'm in second with nine.
- 1:10:36Cole in third with eight and Smeltie in last with seven.
- 1:10:40But it's only a couple of points.
- 1:10:41But that couple of points really matters because Verstappen is eliminating one point from everybody regardless.
- 1:10:46No doubt. That's the problem.
- 1:10:47But to get us started, I have obviously Verstappen.
- 1:10:50Checo loves his street races, so he's going to finish in the podium. And I actually think that McLaren upgrade is going to play big this weekend.
- 1:10:56And I got Lando securing a second consecutive podium.
- 1:11:00Nice, nice. I'm just going to go ahead and ditto that. That is exactly what I'm thinking as well.
- 1:11:06I'm hoping Lando worked out for me last week, so I'm hoping it's been two weeks.
- 1:11:11Cole, who's your podium, bro? I am.
- 1:11:14I mean, I saw the whole upgrades around Lando and I think McLaren.
- 1:11:21It's obviously going to be Verstappen and Checo. I think Checo always does well in these races.
- 1:11:27I'm in between Sians and McLaren. I don't think with just the history around McLaren on this track, I don't think it's going to be a good track for them.
- 1:11:35I don't think they're going to be the ones in the top three. Which is fair.
- 1:11:39I'm going to go. Sians is going to have a kickback week. He's going to be in the top three.
- 1:11:44Nice. OK. Joe, who's on your podium?
- 1:11:47Pretty much dittoing what Cole said. I'm going to play to history. Max, Checo, Sians. I want you two to be right.
- 1:11:54But yeah, Max Checo, Sians is going to be my podium.
- 1:11:57So it's essentially for us this week, it's McLaren's versus Ferrari. I mean, truly, who's going to get on the podium with Checo and Max?
- 1:12:06None of us. It's probably going to be Max Checo Alonso or something.
- 1:12:08Dad, and we would all love that, though. That's the problem.
- 1:12:11I'd be OK with it. That's fine.
- 1:12:12We'd all get two points out of the deal and we would love that.
- 1:12:15So with that, that's.
- 1:12:17You know what I would love, Smelzy?
- 1:12:19What?
- 1:12:20I would just love if Checo took Max out in the first corner and we had two DNFs and then we get like Lando Secur in his first win.
- 1:12:27We grab Alonso in that two or three and screw it. Let's throw Yuki up there.
- 1:12:31I was actually just. All right, you lost me on Yuki.
- 1:12:34But I was just thinking when we were doing podium, I was like one of these races, I should just throw it in there like, nope, for Stappin's out.
- 1:12:41He's going to crash out. I know it.
- 1:12:43But I mean, that's pretty much a loss of a point.
- 1:12:46But with that, we're going to wrap up before I was rudely interrupted.
- 1:12:50And do we have a show next week? Does anybody know?
- 1:12:54No. Dang, another two week break.
- 1:12:56But what's the next race?
- 1:13:00I was just looking at Amola.
- 1:13:02Amola. OK, OK.
- 1:13:04Oh, that's going to be fun.
- 1:13:06Didn't get to Amola last year. I know. Right.
- 1:13:08You didn't touch on this. Is Miami another sprint?
- 1:13:10Yes, it is. Miami is another sprint race. Thank you, Colt.
- 1:13:13Is this the first week that it's doing this?
- 1:13:15The first sprint at Miami?
- 1:13:17No, they did it last year. Did they do it last year?
- 1:13:19I'm pretty sure they did one last year.
- 1:13:21Yeah. If I'm not mistaken, Miami and Vegas had sprints. Austin was the only one that didn't.
- 1:13:29It makes sense if you're trying to gain that American viewership, throw the sprints at America.
- 1:13:33Throw them a second race for the.
- 1:13:35You're right. It was last year. Now I'm thinking about it.
- 1:13:38Wow. Back to back sprints.
- 1:13:40Another sprint. Great. Back to back, too.
- 1:13:43I mean, great.
- 1:13:44But dude, one of these sprints is not going to end well, though.
- 1:13:46Did we get any crashes in sprints last year?
- 1:13:49I mean, not that I can remember.
- 1:13:51But that's what I mean. I know you're chuckling at me.
- 1:13:53But I'm just saying, like, one of these sprints is not going to end well for somebody.
- 1:13:57And it's going to be the end of the world and then potentially the end of the sprints.
- 1:14:00Like, they'll just be like, no, it's not worth it anymore.
- 1:14:02Oh, I actually don't think there was a sprint last year in Miami.
- 1:14:05But there is for sure this year.
- 1:14:06Definitely this year. I'm just looking because it doesn't.
- 1:14:08It looks like they had all three practices and then.
- 1:14:11If there was three practices, there wasn't a sprint.
- 1:14:13I thought for sure there was, but I might be thinking of Vegas, I guess.
- 1:14:17Just suck my gut. Vegas 100 percent had one.
- 1:14:19Yeah. Screw us for fact checking. We all stick to Colt's gut.
- 1:14:23But again, with that, we're going to wrap up now this time.
- 1:14:27So please like, comment, subscribe wherever you listen to the banter.
- 1:14:31YouTube, Spotify, Apple podcasts.
- 1:14:34And we'll see you in two weeks before Molo.
