- 0:16SPEAKER_00: He's giving the game away.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: The novice has already given the game away.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: It's let it's a special let's stick together.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And I can't, I can't even well, we can't wait now because someone's just said wow at the start of the recording.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: We're joined this week by Floron Van Obel.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Now, already Yup, did I pronounce his name right?
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Better better than you usually do, so I'm I'm okay.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I asked Yupe that question.
- 0:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's funny because uh now that I'm playing in the Netherlands, it's even harder to say my name.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: So I just say to everyone, my name is Flow, and that's that's the good because there's people like Florent, Flores.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: Uh, even in my team, I think the the first three months uh people were calling me Flores.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: So I was like, No, it's Florence, but it's Florent, no, it's Florent.
- 1:04SPEAKER_05: You know, like I even don't know it, so do what do whatever you want.
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but these just say Flow.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Just say these motherfuckers just make up their whole own name, yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: They just butcher everything and pronounce it quite shit.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: No, Brendan, shut the fuck up.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: This is how you do it.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: It's fucking shit the way you do it.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: But go on, Phil, do your little bit.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: But they they do it with the last name, huh?
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: Like I'm obel you can call me obal.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: That's kind of like we've learned something already.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, I called you for the first like six months of our relationship, so we you know, don't expect too much here.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: We actually have a pronunciation game in this podcast coming up, so oh well.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Right, before we before for anyone who isn't enough of a hockey badger to know who Flo is, um he's he's he's been around the block a while.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Um, he's been a Belgian international since 2012.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: He's an Olympic world and European champion.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Now, I hope I've got this right.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: You've played 273 games and scored 56 goals, and you're currently playing for Pinacet.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, is all of that correct?
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Uh I don't know how many goals I scored, but uh I play for Pinacet, that's true.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So, so easily, you know, the best person on the podcast by quite some way.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And you are I mean, Brendan is your biggest fan.
- 2:20SPEAKER_05: He I don't know Yeah, yeah, we need to talk about that, but like thank thank you, Brendan.
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: But the two other guys they don't give a shit about me.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: So, like Brand's always team Van Noble, but the other guys they you're not you're not even close, you're not even close in my top five.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: Honestly, I understand.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: You could be lucky to make top ten in my but I'm a good golf player, so we can play golf if you want.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Now we're talking.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: I think you basically wants to do a full episode just on full swing on Netflix.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: I think that's his that's his dream.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: I just finished uh today, so that's what she said.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Um, you are known, and we have given you you know the prestigious award of nicest guy in hockey.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: My first question to you is are you the nicest guy in hockey or is it just you know a beer?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Is it just a a face?
- 3:11SPEAKER_05: Uh I I think I'm pretty chill.
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: Uh I can be a dickhead, but I don't think I'm uh I'm just a chill guy.
- 3:19SPEAKER_05: I I try to get uh to get along with everyone on the pitch, and uh maybe that's why.
- 3:24SPEAKER_05: I just want to have fun.
- 3:25SPEAKER_05: That's the that's the most important thing for me.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: That is the difference, actually, because whenever I've played you in like big games, you're normally like smiling and laughing, or even like complimenting other other players on on the opposition team, and I'm like, how the fuck's he doing that?
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And still playing well.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Is it true?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: I do that.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I remember we were playing in the Euros like in Amsterdam, and we're just like near the end of the game, and you're stood subbing on, and you're like, Fuck Zach Wallace, you're a good player, man.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: A real good player.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he's Michael Jordan.
- 3:55SPEAKER_05: What do you expect?
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: Oh shit, can I?
- 4:00SPEAKER_05: No.
- 4:03SPEAKER_05: Maybe he did a nice action and uh yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_05: I like uh giving live commentary while while playing games.
- 4:10SPEAKER_08: Has there been any point where you have lost it and you've properly got it somebody?
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: Today, no, yeah, but that's more my my teammates because they were uh shouting to the umpire, I think.
- 4:22SPEAKER_05: Uh no, I think I can I can be uh like a guy like having fun and complimenting, but then I think if it gets like really important, I can switch it up and then I can be like in my own world and be like a bit of a yeah, maybe not a dickhead, but just like ignoring everyone.
- 4:38SPEAKER_05: You'll find out.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: Pinocchio are rumors rumors.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Me or Brendan or Yupa going to Pina K.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: Let's start that one off.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, I I heard it about it.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Creed to Pina K.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: You've heard it here first.
- 4:58SPEAKER_05: No.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: But don't you can't play six months then kill you.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Say again, you yeah, if you're going to Pinocchio, I'll fucking kill you.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: We've already we've already had this this quite aggressive joke from you where we joked uh it's not a joke.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: It's not a joke, it's not a joke, it's just that it's why would you kill him?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: It's it's nothing to do with Pinocchio, it has nothing to do with uh Blumedau or whatever.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: He just he said to me he would stay for two years and he fucked off after one.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: I don't care about his kid.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: He said to me he would stay for two years.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Right, there's bullshit there because you do care about my kid.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: I know I'm I'm I'm hey, I'm going to be a godfather of his second day.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Hey, right, let's let's utilize time with you, uh Flo, please.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: All right, okay.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: When Brendan's saying it, we better do something.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Hampstead and Westminster versus Old Georgians this week.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: There's some big news in the English Premier League for you two who don't know about it.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Um in the changing room, uh Old Georgians Hockey Club.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So this is a this is a top six clash in the English Premier League.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Uh Old Georgians found a whiteboard full of like kind of abusive messages about their own team that Hamstead have wrote.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Um and then Old Georgians decided to put it on Twitter.
- 6:23SPEAKER_05: So um I'm I'm going on Twitter now.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: There was there was a whole host of kind of strange things that they put on.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Um, one of them being get in George Pinner's face.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Uh what else did they put?
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: They put poor work ethic, superficial.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Think they're gonna win the league, and that they they have won the league.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Um they also then put stuff like focus on us, don't get dragged to their level.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, some crazy, some crazy stuff went on.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Um Brendan, do you want to chime in here or not?
- 7:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I I think it's so funny.
- 7:04SPEAKER_08: So basically, like the crux of it is Hamstead got moved changing room and forgot that this whiteboard was up because it's it's one of those like sheets that you basically stick on and you can obviously just crumble it off and take it off.
- 7:16SPEAKER_08: So they got moved changing rooms and forgot about it, and then they went into the clubhouse, and apparently it was up in the clubhouse.
- 7:23SPEAKER_08: So that old Georgians had already put it up in the clubhouse where all club members can see this, that, and the other.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: Um, I think it's so funny.
- 7:31SPEAKER_08: Just some of the messages are just like brilliant for me.
- 7:33SPEAKER_08: Like, I just think and we spoke to the Hampstead guys, and they were like, Yeah, yeah, we fucked up a bit.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: But are they funny because they're true or or yeah, they well they are.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: I think I think right.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: I've got if the English men's premier team, uh, sorry, the league was like a Christmas dinner, OGs would be the sprouts, you know, the really shit bit the people know they're they're knobs, but you don't need to say it, they're not tasty, you just have to get through it and play them.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: But you don't have to write it all down on a whiteboard, you don't have to tell people why.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: So, in in typical OGs fashion, they won the game and then they showcase this and put it on Twitter.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: I think if it was anyone else, you'd probably have a laugh, be like, ah, they think we're wankers and we still won.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: But in true style of like basically everything they've said, they did just confirming what they are, yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: It it is some top-class shithousery, but because they do it, it's they kind of like uh affirmed what people said about them.
- 8:34SPEAKER_05: Okay, but to be to be honest, which like who hasn't done that, you know.
- 8:38SPEAKER_05: Like, if you have a I don't know, you analyzing another team, like a coach is talking about other players, they they've all like I even remember about you, Yup, our ex-coach.
- 8:51SPEAKER_04: He said, Yup, I'm sure he's a good kid, but you can put him under pressure.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: Who said this?
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying the name, but fucking von der Hoevel, buddy.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no, fucking Michelle van der Hoevel.
- 9:05SPEAKER_05: It's not Van Heovel, but it happened.
- 9:07SPEAKER_05: I'm not gonna say that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_05: We'll talk after the podcast.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: But well, I know for a fact, I know for a fact van der Heuvel always throws everyone under the bus who is coached.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: He doesn't give a shit.
- 9:17SPEAKER_05: He used to be it's funny because he used to um I didn't really like that, but he used when he when he was assistant, he was doing the the heads up, like the analyze of the other teams.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: And when he did it about the Netherlands, like I think he like he trashed everyone.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and we were always like, dude, calm the fuck down, man.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: We have to play them like the karma we're gonna.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: But he was like, Yeah, this guy, this guy, this guy.
- 9:40SPEAKER_05: Oh, I rate this guy, yeah.
- 9:42SPEAKER_05: Cherry Dringman, yeah, he's okay, he's a good player.
- 9:44SPEAKER_05: We're like, what the fuck, man?
- 9:45SPEAKER_05: Come on.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: He has unreasonably high standards.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: To be fair, you we've done that about you as well.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: What you can put me under pressure.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Well, you cannot really put me under pressure because I'm not fucking there, but okay.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: We got you by the closet.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, boys.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: It's like the one, it's like the one thing I can't do on the closet.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I was gonna focus on Brandon.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: No, it's the one thing I can actually do in hockey pitch.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: That's like be good under pressure, and then this motherfucker tells me that they want to put me under pressure.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Like, come on.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: You're not you're not that technical.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Let's not make it about me.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Let's not make it about me.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Brent Brendan's staying unusually quiet.
- 10:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because I know if it comes to me, I've got nothing.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: We already did Mark Knowles giving him shit last week, so we'll leave you to it.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Um just a small amount of news.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, you'll you'll enjoy this.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you're doing this.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Um, my best friend got in touch who has nothing to do with hockey, isn't interested in any of it, but he's like, listen to the podcast, don't understand a thing you're talking about, but I fucking love you.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And will he sign my tits?
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if you do that, but yeah, I will.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: What's his name?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Joe.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: His name is Joe as well.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: I fucking hell.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Of course I'll sign his tits.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Joe, I got you, brother.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Anyone else out there who who you know wants that from you just maybe we'll do a competition giveaway.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: We don't do like signed shirts and sticks this time.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: We'll just do like signs, you sign stuff for you.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: No, did Sony.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Send send a mail too.
- 11:33SPEAKER_05: I know I didn't send my inglate.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: You sign tits and gmail.com.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, this is way too right, Brad.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: You're out, mate.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 11:49SPEAKER_08: That's fine.
- 11:50SPEAKER_08: I accept it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Um, right.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Quick question for you, Flo.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Oh you were you were I I did some research on you this week because I felt like one of us has to.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm normally the person who's trying to keep the pod together.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: You were at Dragons for 13 years.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: You obviously were fairly successful there winning league titles and stuff.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Never the EHL, I found out, so you know, hard luck with that one.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I think you've won enough.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: How how come the big move to Pinake, move to the dam?
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: I've um I've always had, yeah, one I've always wanted to go abroad, and it's uh it started, yeah, like a bit in my head, like uh a few years ago, then COVID happened.
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: I was in big talks with uh Cologne, the year of uh the year of uh after Vinnie went, so it's the year of the lockdown.
- 12:41SPEAKER_05: Um, and then yeah, I I have um my wife who works for Microsoft, and she had an opportunity to go to New York, and so she said, like, yeah, I I can go to New York, but I I told her, I'm like, I'm sorry, but like you can go, but it'll be a bit hard for me to to join you.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: So we sat at the table and they were like, All right, which cities can be very interested for both of us to go?
- 13:05SPEAKER_05: And then obviously, yeah, it's very easy.
- 13:07SPEAKER_05: Amsterdam came out on top, and then last year she had uh she had a big um like uh job opportunity in Amsterdam for Microsoft, and so that's how like all the talk started to go, and then it was a bit of a win-win for us, and so now we're here in our our little apartment in Amsterdam.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: How's how's Penny K Live treating you?
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's amazing.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I have a follow-up question.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: I have a follow-up question.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Were there any other clubs or any other like people players who who who like reached out asking for uh uh you reached out, I remember or not?
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Did you?
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I reached out and you didn't fucking reply.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: I'm so fucking bad at replying.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, it's true.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: It's true, I remember.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: But I'm here, right?
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're here.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: Hey, you tries to wind and down everyone.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: He's he's he's always he's always on the hunt.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: He's uh he's part of the last board.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: But but Anthoven.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and Anthoven was not part of it.
- 14:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, and after one year he left.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was like, that's that's sad enough.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Best year of his life.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: I no, but uh Antoven was like if I was gonna move to Anthoven, I was gonna have to stay at home.
- 14:28SPEAKER_05: I stay in Belgium and do the trips to Antoven, so it wasn't really like I really wanted to move to Amsterdam.
- 14:34SPEAKER_05: So I wasn't doing with me.
- 14:37SPEAKER_05: No, it has nothing, I had really nothing to do with you.
- 14:40SPEAKER_05: They were good.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: And who's um who who are you enjoying playing with uh Pinake?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Obviously, there's some top players there.
- 14:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's really it's really fun.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: Like the yeah, the obvious names are like uh I'm really trying to get some some good connections with the forwards.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Uh, there's the the big talent Miles Buckkins uh running around.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: He's uh he has in like insane uh talent, but I think it's a bit my role to to guide him in that, so that's that's pretty nice.
- 15:06SPEAKER_05: And then yeah, they they're all they're all good guys, so that's that's that's the fun part.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: Uh, there are some young guys also.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: Uh I'm having a lot of fun also next to the pitch.
- 15:15SPEAKER_05: So I'm trying to uh to get that professionalism and to make them focus a bit more on the hockey part.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: Uh we we had a nice if I we had a nice team weekend in Northwijk.
- 15:27SPEAKER_05: And uh or I have to say Northwijk, you know, like the English uh we talked a lot like together, like we went out, we talked a lot, um, like we had crazy meetings on Saturday, like only like you know, the classical ones, like uh the mental meetings, which are our roles, you know.
- 15:42SPEAKER_05: Like, and then uh on Sunday we like we were like, all right, guys, we're really ready last uh practice game of the season.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: We played Blumendale, and I think I've never been that much outplayed in my whole life.
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: Like we lost three three nil.
- 15:57SPEAKER_05: I think we have like we had like six circle entries.
- 16:00SPEAKER_05: Uh they had like 25, and so at the end of the game, we were like, Yeah, all right, we're really good talkers.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: Like uh Zenamoje Pratclub, as they we say in Dutch, but at the end of the day, it's about hockey, and so we have to we had to focus a bit more on that.
- 16:14SPEAKER_05: So, no, but it's it's really it's really fun uh at Bean OK.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Brendan, do you want to say anything in this podcast?
- 16:20SPEAKER_08: Or are you chilling?
- 16:21SPEAKER_08: I'm chilling, I'm just I'm just listening to it all.
- 16:25SPEAKER_08: It's his it's his it's his idol here.
- 16:28SPEAKER_08: Like yeah, I was saying to the man the man's.
- 16:30SPEAKER_08: Do you know what I'm doing?
- 16:31SPEAKER_08: I'm actually letting Flo speak, whereas you two just want to talk the whole time.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: He's a grown man, he can stand up for himself.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Um okay, so some of some of I guess Brendan's compliments of you will lead into my next question.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: He's he's like he said, he's put you in his top five in the world, you know.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Um one of the things he was talking about was like how ice cold you are with your with your shootouts.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Um, I think we'd all like to know, uh especially uh especially me, how how'd you stay so cold with them shootouts?
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, let's sorry, some context.
- 17:08SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Like Slow's taking shootouts in the World Cup final, and his uh I think you scored twice in the World Cup final.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Is that right?
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: What's his name?
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: I don't have to remember.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Dannberg.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Dannberg.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, put Dannenberg on his ass, which was absolutely excellent.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: You know his name, Phil.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: You still aren't shooting your dream.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: You know his name.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I scored.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he's he's still you know his name.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: If I had the the the solution, I would I don't know, I would it would be easier.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: I think um I prepare myself pretty well, but I never do the same shootout, I feel.
- 17:52SPEAKER_05: So I think goalkeepers try to analyze me, and they they see me having different kinds of shootouts, but when I start taking a shootout, I never really know like which shootout I'm gonna end up doing.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: I always do the same kind of things, but then I I improvise a bit and then I I see in the moment what's what's happening.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So you're going again, you are you're going against actually a lot of what people do, which is like have a plan, go in and try and execute your free freestyling.
- 18:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it I often have the same start, but then I, for example, I know with uh with uh Perman, like I know that yeah, obviously he analyzes me, and I I've taken a lot of shootouts against him, and I probably know what he thought I was gonna do.
- 18:38SPEAKER_05: So I based it a little bit on that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: And with Denenberg, I went a bit full freestyle mode because the first shootouts, like normally I turn my back, and I always say, if you turn your back, never get back like with your face in front of him.
- 18:52SPEAKER_05: And I did that, so I have no idea why I did that, but it worked out so it's it's purely on instincts.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I think I think I can tip for everyone watching.
- 19:03SPEAKER_05: I think I can handle pressure pretty well, and maybe that's why I'm um I'm pretty okay at it.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Unlike unlike you, it's not known for that.
- 19:12SPEAKER_05: No, you have to put him under pressure, that's not the same.
- 19:15SPEAKER_05: I think you is pretty good with in pressure situations.
- 19:18SPEAKER_05: Hey Yupe, I'm like, I'm I know why I fucked you over a bit, but now I'm trying to get back uh at your good side.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're getting at my good side.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Is it working?
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Phil, Phil has never been on my good side, he's always on the bad side.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Fuck you, Phil.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: You missed a stroke last week.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, good times.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Well, some as normal, some some top top insight from us, and then mixed in with complete shit.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: So right.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Let me, I'm not gonna I'm gonna stop talking.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: You um Brenn uh, you definitely said you had some questions, so come on, come on, fire us one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I had a I had a like a question which is like like not haunting me, but which has already been in my mind for like the past three years, I think, two years.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Is Belgium holding on to their squad for too long?
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Good question.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Are are they are you guys done?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Are you guys is this was this it with this generation?
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Are like is is van der Heuvel scared to like bring in new young guys?
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: And is it like this?
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: That's I think I think it's a question not a lot of people really ask, but I think it's a question which is on a lot of people's minds, because you guys are so fucking good, but it's like everyone is around.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: I think it was a stat that like the average amount of caps was like 200 or something, yeah.
- 20:40SPEAKER_05: 250, yeah.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 250, and the average uh average uh age was like 31 or 30 or something.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Like at a certain point, you have to say, Okay, they're done.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: But is it already because people say like it's it's it was a disappointing tournament for you guys, but you still you lost on shootouts in the World Cup final, which is like if that's already a disappointment, what am I?
- 21:08SPEAKER_05: Um all right, good question.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: I think um first of all, I think when Michel took over after after Shane, like Shane won everything.
- 21:18SPEAKER_05: I think for Michel it was not very easy because yeah, he takes over.
- 21:22SPEAKER_05: What like Michelle he wants to win?
- 21:24SPEAKER_05: So his first like I think his first mindset is I want to take the players with who I can win.
- 21:32SPEAKER_05: And at this moment in Belgium, it's still the the old guys, but then you have like even us, the old guys, and like players in the Federation, uh like no people in the Federation, they're saying, like, yeah, look, it's very good that you have these old guys, but at a certain moment they're gonna quit, probably after Paris.
- 21:51SPEAKER_05: And what do you will you have now?
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: And so we're now trying also to tell him like, look, you need to bring in youngsters.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Five six youngsters for the pro league games, and hopefully maybe they'll make it into the squad.
- 22:04SPEAKER_05: But the the what Michelle also said is that the level of the the old guys is still higher than the that the youngsters coming in, and so that's a bit like the the problem we're at now is like the the other tournaments we won, we dominated, I think.
- 22:21SPEAKER_05: Like if I can say like Australia and Belgium, yeah, the dominating at the at the Olympics.
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: But now you're seeing like at the World Cup, like we weren't the dominating side at all.
- 22:32SPEAKER_05: And so I I think we're we're we're getting at our limit.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: If you see our first half against the against the Netherlands, for example, I think it should have been I don't know 2-0 or 3-0 for uh for Holland.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and so you just feel that that that tournament, yeah, we got a bit at our limit, and then we rely a lot on shootouts, a lot on Vini Van Ash.
- 22:53SPEAKER_05: And we aren't the dominating side.
- 22:55SPEAKER_05: So I think now is the time that we have to ask ourselves the question like, yeah, where do we want to go?
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: What do we want to do at the European Cup?
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Do we want to stay with uh yeah, with the old guys?
- 23:04SPEAKER_05: Uh what do we want to do at Paris?
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: Because after Paris, I think I don't know, eight or nine guys will quit, and then yeah, Belgium hockey is over.
- 23:12SPEAKER_05: So, your question is the same question I'm asking myself.
- 23:15SPEAKER_05: So, I don't I don't have the answer, unfortunately.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's and it's I think it's always a tough thing because as you said, I think it's it's if you look at skill and if you look at I think experience is something you can only get playing, but it's always viewed as a skill.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: But like uh and don't get me wrong, I'm not I'm I'm a bit biased because I play with him, but like for me, a TB T Bug Stockbrooks is like one of the guys who you could bring in and he won't harm like your case.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: He will not make he will not decide whether you win gold, silver, or bronze.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Uh but he will also not make you lose gold, silver, or bronze.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: So then my like, and that's always a bit it's a bit the chicken in the egg story.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you do?
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Like, do you stick with the old guys?
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Do you like go bringing young guys?
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: But you have to give them a chance to show if they're like if you give, for instance, and I don't know a lot of the young Belgian guys right now.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: But if you give like you guys gave Rainier, Kina, the slovo, you gave them a chance a couple of years ago.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: They were also like all three are exceptional talents, but like you should, I think you should give them like an a platform.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: You see it at the Dutch side right now.
- 24:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I agree, but it's funny because I I I um I wrote a World Cup review.
- 24:27SPEAKER_05: I sent it yesterday, I think.
- 24:28SPEAKER_05: The the high performance director asked, I think, some key players to to write down uh a review, and he also asked this question like, yeah, what what are your thoughts about the selection?
- 24:40SPEAKER_05: And what you're saying, I I totally agree.
- 24:42SPEAKER_05: So it's it's it's not easy finding that balance of of bringing youngsters in or not.
- 24:47SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think yeah, Michelle really wanted to win that World Cup, and so he said, I want to have the best players who who are at the moment the best players, and then he he he said, Yeah, it's it's these guys.
- 24:59SPEAKER_05: And it's true that if you put a TB in, like T B has been every training, he's like, he's insane.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: That guy, like he's he's a really, really good player, and he sometimes was even a lot better than than a lot of the other strikers, but then yeah, in pressure situations, experience, then Michelle was like, Yeah, who am I gonna pick?
- 25:18SPEAKER_05: And then he he wanted the the older guys.
- 25:20SPEAKER_05: But the problem is T B doesn't have the experience now, so that's yeah that's the issue.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's some of the problem, though, isn't it?
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Is because you have such a high quality, like A team players, that any coach who's gonna be like, Oh, do I want this new guy or or or do I want like Tom Bone?
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh well, it's not that hard to decide that.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whereas like if you had like a couple of weaker guys, then maybe you can start having that question.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: But until you you're almost like at that point now where you've gone so far where the same team has played together and they're so fucking good together that it's so hard for the coach, like, okay, now I'm gonna do it.
- 25:54SPEAKER_08: You almost need you almost need injuries, like something like some form of like almost catastrophe to make a gap for someone to come in and kind of prove their worth almost.
- 26:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, or you need yeah, or what I was suggesting is that during the the next pro league games, and when is it?
- 26:08SPEAKER_05: We I think we're going to London, just take six, seven youngsters, and I think one of them will or two will show really like what their level is, and then like you can build on that, and that's what I think a lot of teams have been doing.
- 26:23SPEAKER_05: With Germany has been doing that, even yeah, everybody has been doing that, but yeah, we've been we've been sticking to what we know, and we've been winning, so that's also the hard part.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: You've been winning everything with this team, so why should you you change?
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you have to think long term, and also if you if you have like Michel von der Heuvel as a head coach, I don't think like Michel von Heuvel is the best coach to like develop, in my opinion.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I think I've had Heu Heuvel as a coach at Orange Watt, and his tendency is always to rely on experienced and like uh the the the well-known guys.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: That's not a bad thing because I think he's one of the best coaches in the world with great teams.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: And I don't think people underestimate how hard it is to manage a good team, like a guy, uh a team full of experienced players but also a team full of like stars.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Um, and like for instance, uh you wouldn't know may is like a guy who's really good at developing a new team, who's like good at developing young players, new players who can like come in, make them feel good, and like develop them.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: And I don't think Heuffel is is the coach to do so.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: I think he's more of a like I know what I have, I know what I what I can work with, and I can make good guys great instead of like average good, if you know what I mean.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's true.
- 27:37SPEAKER_05: He's he's also a bit like the the old style, a bit hierarchy style.
- 27:40SPEAKER_05: Like he he likes the like if you're new into the team, you'll you'll be seen as a stasher player, he says always, and then you have to prove yourself.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: And that's what uh Wigne had to do, uh the Slobo had to do.
- 27:51SPEAKER_05: But they're like you say, they're exceptional talents.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Is that not ridiculous with you when you've got like so many 300 caps?
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Like, where the hell is the hierarchy?
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: It's like fuck they're all really good.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:02SPEAKER_05: There's not there's not a real hierarchy, that's true.
- 28:05SPEAKER_05: Everybody's uh really good at their role.
- 28:08SPEAKER_05: That's that's what makes I think the the Belgian team really good.
- 28:11SPEAKER_05: It's like everybody knows exactly what's expected of him, like also on the mental side and also on the pitch.
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: But I you you said it, I think, in one of your last episodes, like it's a bit robotic what we do, but we know exactly what we what we do and where we have to where we have to be and which pass we have to.
- 28:29SPEAKER_05: And that was a bit the problem, like in the past, is that it became way too much robotic, and so you the creativity wasn't there, and so like I wasn't happy anymore because I was like, Yeah, but if I have the ball, I'm I have to do this, have to do this, and so that's like the shift we try to make to have both of it.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: No, I think I think that that comes with the next like Phil's question.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: I think I'm gonna ask for Phil, but like you guys have been around for so long, and Phil always calls it the the nearly men.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Um and I think like I think and I think Phil thinks it of himself as well.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Like, England are right now the nearly men, in my opinion.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: They're like so close to winning a tournament, even though they lost in the quarterfinal, but you felt this was their tournament.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: They were like one of the not even an outsider people, like, oh fuck, they can actually win this thing.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: But you guys have been like from 2012 and on, you guys, every year you saw oh, Belgium is coming, Belgium is coming, Belgium is coming, and then Rio, I think, was the kickstart to everything that happened, but like yeah, I think that also has to do a bit with what you say.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: You guys have played together for like 10 years.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's a team right now that played together for more than five years or three years, even.
- 29:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, we were called the the silver generation at a at a certain moment because we kept losing like all the the moment there was an important game, like uh what was it, the quarterfinal at the World League in 2015, or like the final in the Olympic Games, we lost them.
- 29:53SPEAKER_05: Final in Rio really like helped us a lot.
- 29:56SPEAKER_05: And then I think the the coming of Shane also helped us a lot because he was more focused on the the human aspect and the the I think he implemented a lot of stuff from the all blacks because he's from New Zealand, so like some some classical stuff, and I think we use that in our team um to our advantage, and I think that that helped us also a lot.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, how did you like so?
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: My my thing is always about like when we've talked about this, like breaking through the ceiling.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: So, like when you did it, like did you I know you wouldn't have changed anything natural, but you're saying it was more of a shame thing of of changing your mindset rather than changing anything on the hockey front?
- 30:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I yeah, I think so.
- 30:37SPEAKER_05: He yeah, he he came with certain concepts, like um maybe you heard that, but he said, like I will you guys are all stars in your clubs, uh, and I want to make a star team out of a bunch of individual stars, and so we started focusing on that.
- 30:53SPEAKER_05: We started focusing on our roles, but like really into details, like that.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: Like the I I knew, for example, exactly what what I had to do, like what was expected of me if let's say we were winning one-nil and we have to keep the ball for two minutes.
- 31:09SPEAKER_05: Then I know, like, okay, uh, this is for flow.
- 31:13SPEAKER_05: Uh, but then I don't know what's expected of Louis Clappart.
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: He had like also like a lot of stuff, and I think everybody in the team knew ex at a certain moment exactly about all right.
- 31:22SPEAKER_05: Um Shane makes me feel really important in in a certain way.
- 31:27SPEAKER_05: So it's not like you had the three captains and the rest of the team, but you had even the 18th player, he he was he was made like really important, and so he boosted, I think, our our confidence level also.
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: He always said, like, don't be afraid of how good you can be.
- 31:42SPEAKER_05: So that's like all little things that came in.
- 31:45SPEAKER_05: I don't think that's the answer, but he helped us a lot with with that.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: I think that's awesome.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: We will take a short break, be back in a sec.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Right, we're back.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Part two for uh hopefully more shit.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: But Brendan's got one more, in his words, serious question for flow.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: So be ready, flow.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: This could be fucking anything.
- 32:08SPEAKER_08: It could be anything, it's not.
- 32:10SPEAKER_08: Um, obviously, like we talked about Belgian side getting a bit older, and like, for example, like our team getting younger.
- 32:15SPEAKER_08: We also talked about the Aussies, like the Aussies the other week, like they've just come again, they've just lost to what Argentina on shootouts, they've just lost to Spain.
- 32:23SPEAKER_08: Like, who do you see being the next teams coming through on that international side of things?
- 32:28SPEAKER_08: Like, do you see Spain as a threat?
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: Do you see the German side getting better and better?
- 32:32SPEAKER_08: Like, where do you feel where do you feel it's going?
- 32:34SPEAKER_08: Because it like from what from what we can see, like the the European sides are definitely starting to take hold again.
- 32:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think Spain has um has surprised me in a positive way because they're they're playing with a lot of names I don't know, and they're doing pretty well.
- 32:48SPEAKER_05: I think the obvious answers are yeah, I think Holland is doing really well, uh, and you guys obviously.
- 32:54SPEAKER_05: Uh and then yeah, Australia, it's a bit of a weird one.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: I always expect a lot of them.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: Uh and yeah, I still think it's a good team, but I don't know what happened during the World Cup.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: They they they fucked up, and then now I see that they are they're also losing to uh what is it to Argentina, I think.
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: But I think yeah, I think we have to be careful with Holland, and it's not because you two are there, but I think Holland and NGB is uh or England, uh whatever team you have.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: I I never know.
- 33:25SPEAKER_05: Uh we just flip a coin and then we just go with that one.
- 33:31SPEAKER_05: It's so weird, man.
- 33:33SPEAKER_05: But I yeah, I think let me think about wait.
- 33:35SPEAKER_05: Uh you have Spain, Germany.
- 33:37SPEAKER_05: If well, it depends whether Wellan or not uh will now decide to stay home for his kid or not.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Um he's just gonna knock up his wife again, so he has another fucking worldly tournament, isn't he?
- 33:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, way to describe someone having a baby, Phil.
- 33:52SPEAKER_08: It's lovely.
- 33:54SPEAKER_08: I can do it.
- 33:55SPEAKER_05: No, I I think yeah, to be a bit more serious, I think big threats are like teams that are really young and that are doing really well at the moment, so it's you you both, and that's it.
- 34:09SPEAKER_05: What else is there?
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: You know, even when even with us missing our two best players in Holland's missing their best player in Yupe Demol and England are missing their best play in Brendan Creed, doesn't even matter.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: I don't like the sarcastic uh Tony.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: That wasn't sarcastic at all, mate.
- 34:27SPEAKER_08: So you're on way for thin ice, you prick.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Phil, you're not you're already on my bad side, and now you're also making a joke out of me.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Um you uh tried to call me today, so I returned his call, and like the first thing I actually love this about him.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: The first thing that came out of his mouth was, I was such a bitch at training today.
- 34:48SPEAKER_05: With who?
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: How well you have to talk about it.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll talk about it.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: It's uh it's so here's this thing.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you guys in life you have extrovert people and introvert people.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Everybody's always everybody's like it may come as a surprise to you guys, but I'm kind of extroverted.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Not if that's correct, Enus.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Everybody's always like it's all fun in games when Yup is happy and everything's nice, and blah blah blah.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: He makes a joke, I makes the fun out of himself, and whatever.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: But no one talks about when extroverted people are not happy because then it goes to fucking shit.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: And I know I was today, uh, no one in my team probably listens, but I'll apologize.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: I was like a six-year-old girl.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I think Indy would would would come to me and say, Yoop, you're a little bitch today, and I agree.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: But sometimes you also gotta be like, Hey, come on, that's also part of you.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: If someone is a quiet little fucker and never talks, we always say, Yeah, that's how he is, he never talks, he's introvert.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: But when people are extroverted, they always expect him to be happy, and they can never show bad emotion.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, don't get me wrong.
- 35:59SPEAKER_04: Why did you show what what what happened for you to show bad emotion?
- 36:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a bit of a therapy session in here, so yeah, but that's you know, Flo, that's the funny thing.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: I have no clue.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: I walked off the pitch, I walked off the pitch and I was like, why was I a bitch?
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: And then I was thinking, there was actually no valid reason, probably because Jiroun said I made shoot and I didn't, or whatever.
- 36:20SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, classic.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Like, there was no real reason, but I just fucking I was done for the day.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: I was fucking pissed, and I don't know why, and I still don't know why.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: And I know and the only thing is the moment, the moment, in the moment, I know I'm being a bitch, I know I'm I'm so in the wrong right now, but I can never snap out of it.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: It's hard, yeah.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what she said.
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: I have a big uh another question.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: Can I uh I'm sorry, Phil, I don't want to take over, but that does someone from your team then recognize that you're not going well and comes to you, but that's also important because I think you're doing it with the other guys, but maybe someone should say, how's you doing?
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: That's also important.
- 37:00SPEAKER_04: People never ask me how I'll do it.
- 37:03SPEAKER_06: If you don't know why you're in the bad mood, how can anyone come to you and try and solve it?
- 37:08SPEAKER_06: And that's it.
- 37:09SPEAKER_06: Brendan Brendan knows that from experience.
- 37:11SPEAKER_08: I know that from experience, brother.
- 37:12SPEAKER_08: I've been there, I've been asked far too many times.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: I get I got some great feedback today.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: Everybody said, Yeah, sometimes we ask you how you're doing, and you say, Fuck off.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: So you're never open to it.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Which then uh I have to give it to them, they're completely right.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Phil knows it from last year.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Like sometimes I just had a training in which I I wanted to throw my stick.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I probably threw my stick every once in a while, and I'm just a little bitch.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: The funny thing is here it lets it together, you know, we're still teaching life lessons because it takes a big man to turn around less than a day later from being, in his own words, a little bitch and turn around and say, I've been a little bitch.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: And so, yeah, self-awareness is a powerful tool, and you know, I think we should all try and use that more.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: Well, we really are on therapy session, aren't we?
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: But I think Dutch guys are good at that.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because they're so they're so fucking direct, they just tell you what they think without even thinking.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: No, don't start generalizing it now.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: That's like my one good trait.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: It's not all Dutch guys, it's you do more.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: I'm good at something.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Shit at hockey, I'm good at reflecting on myself, right, Philip?
- 38:22SPEAKER_08: I'm with you.
- 38:22SPEAKER_08: Sometimes it's sometimes it's nice to be told you're good at something.
- 38:25SPEAKER_08: Like sometimes you need it.
- 38:26SPEAKER_08: You need that pick-me-up every now and then.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: We we did just a flow just for your uh instance.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Like when Brendan used to lose his shit, he used to lose his shit bad.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: And I mean, like, I'm being nice to him now because he still loses his shit a lot of the time.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: But he used to get to a point where we we couldn't really say anything about it, but also we couldn't ignore it.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: So, like on the pitch, if he just passed to the centre forward and they scored, it'd be like I'd have to go up to him and be like, Well, at least you've got nice hair, Brenn.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 38:52SPEAKER_08: That was our that was our original solution, and unsurprisingly, it didn't work for very long.
- 38:58SPEAKER_08: I didn't have nice hair, majority of it.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I was lying about the hair as well.
- 39:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, didn't you cut your hair up?
- 39:05SPEAKER_06: I saw through the compliment.
- 39:07SPEAKER_08: No, it's um it is funny, isn't it?
- 39:09SPEAKER_08: Because some days you just wake up and you're like, I'm in a bad mood.
- 39:12SPEAKER_08: I've got no idea how.
- 39:13SPEAKER_08: In fact, Phil, you were the one that taught me to be like, just talk, just say you're in a bad mood, and suddenly everything starts to get a little bit better.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: We are full therapy now.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: We are full therapy.
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: All right, let's let's name your let's get back.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: Flow.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: Let's get back to Hitler.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: Oh no, yeah.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: He what he wants the host job, and you can have it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: A couple of a couple of tough questions for you.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Uh a little quick fire.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Van Doren or De Schluver?
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: Oh, I knew that question was gonna come.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: Can I can I um um nuance it?
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: It's so funny because I was on my back back from training, and I was like, Oh, I'm sure they're gonna ask.
- 39:48SPEAKER_05: There's no good answer, huh?
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: I can't I have to say name.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Right now, not not not.
- 39:56SPEAKER_05: I'll I'll I'll pick, I still pick Van Doren.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, uh Venier or shit.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: Really good questions.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: Is it to party or to hockey?
- 40:11SPEAKER_06: What did you ask Phil?
- 40:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I wanna I want to know the difference.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: I want to know which one you're using for which they're both pretty good at partying, but there's one who's a bit better.
- 40:20SPEAKER_05: No, uh hockey.
- 40:22SPEAKER_05: I think oh fuck.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: I love playing with them both, but I'll pick Kina.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: And who's to better to party with?
- 40:31SPEAKER_05: Probably Kina also.
- 40:33SPEAKER_05: But I I love them both.
- 40:35SPEAKER_05: That's very important.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: I really like playing with them both.
- 40:38SPEAKER_05: But I think Kina and me, we try to like we have like a special uh technical connection together, so we try to do some fun stuff together, and that's why.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's fair.
- 40:48SPEAKER_04: Technical friends running out, it's not my running out of pressure, friend.
- 40:54SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Um uh last one, uh Charlier or Docier.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Black.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Um no no as a hockey player.
- 41:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:11SPEAKER_05: Charlie doesn't listen to this podcast.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: Uh they're both on, but teammate, teammate for both.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: That's a safe bet.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: You can have a great party with Duckier.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: He knows how to party.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: But Charlie also.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Um any more, any more for any more, you two blanky men?
- 41:39SPEAKER_08: Let's get on the pronunciation.
- 41:40SPEAKER_08: I want to hear this because we're gonna be so bad at this.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: Um, Flo, just for your in just for you to know, we're terrible at pronunciation.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: Or pronunciation, as she as I like to say.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: Um has written down um a list of names from people from Holland and Belgium and Germany, and he wants us to to try and say them, and then I'm sure we'll pause so he can laugh.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Or you can both laugh.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Brenn, do you want to go first or second?
- 42:15SPEAKER_08: Uh I'll go second because yeah, I'll go second.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: Laura Nunink.
- 42:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I say exactly the same.
- 42:24SPEAKER_08: Laura Nunning.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: It's not bad.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Let's name it pretty okay with this Laura.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: Laura.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Laura Nunning.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Not Laura.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: That's not Laura.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: That says Laura.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: And you pronounce it Laura.
- 42:40SPEAKER_08: Laura.
- 42:40SPEAKER_08: Okay, Laura Nunning.
- 42:42SPEAKER_08: It says no, you say no.
- 42:48SPEAKER_08: Right, I'll go, I'll go next.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: I'll go next.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: Jonas de Hurse.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Uh Jonas de Goose.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, come on.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Like this is where you this is where you guys piss me off.
- 43:00SPEAKER_04: This is what you're dealing with.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: It's not who's it's goose.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Hose?
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: No, not hoose, goose.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Don't say house there, mate.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Fucking top three midfielder in the world, top five.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: The goose.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Jonas the ghost.
- 43:17SPEAKER_08: Is this is this good podcast content?
- 43:19SPEAKER_08: I genuinely don't think we can even make that like shape with our mouths to say the surname.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, I just want to know, I just want to know two or three more.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: I want to know.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: No, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: We'll do a we'll do a couple more.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Flo uh, Flo, say say my name and then say Brendan's name.
- 43:35SPEAKER_05: Uh it went just in Phil Roper.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: Brendan Creed.
- 43:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, easy, easy.
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: It's not tough ones.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, fine.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Right, I'll take the next one.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: Freaker Moses.
- 43:51SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna try and do it properly.
- 43:53SPEAKER_08: Freaker Mose.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: No.
- 43:59unknown: No.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Get out of your own shell a little bit.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Like look on the other side of the ocean, or what do you call the North Sea?
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: It's moose.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: Freke moose.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Why have I got to be in the North Sea?
- 44:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I'm also no.
- 44:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah?
- 44:18SPEAKER_07: Moose.
- 44:19SPEAKER_07: No, Moose is Mou S E.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: Get out of your shell.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: There's there's other countries in the world than Great Britain.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: I just wonder who's who's no who's the Bloomadow player?
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Um who's like the the the young talent who was always the talent.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: What's his name?
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Yorit Crohn.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: Euret Crohn.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: Yurit Crohn.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: That's pretty okay.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: We used to say Euryt Crude.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Crude.
- 44:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he's no, but it's the same with Boone as well.
- 44:46SPEAKER_08: It's Tom Boone, but it's not Brune, is it?
- 44:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 44:51SPEAKER_08: Where's it?
- 44:52SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's so bad.
- 44:53SPEAKER_08: Right, I'll just Honor Island.
- 44:54SPEAKER_08: We're so proud of the way.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: I'll just quick fire, quick fire the rest.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, so you've got Arthur Van Doren, Simon Gunyard, Victor Vegnes, Tom Boone, Flores Votelboer.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Very beans.
- 45:10SPEAKER_08: My favorite is tur turn turn beans is my favorite.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Oh but fucking Vechne Vechnes is like you can you can I think in his face you could it's better to call him a dickhead or not than Victor Vechnez.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Well I'll definitely try calling him Vegnes next time.
- 45:29SPEAKER_08: I won't call him a dickhead because he's he seems quite a nice guy.
- 45:32SPEAKER_05: He's a good guy, yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, only one only one thing to bring up about pronunciation, you you get one thing wrong constantly, so I'll just let you know what that one thing is, and it's an idea, not an ID.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: Just to let you know.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: Just some feedback, just some feedback for you.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Relatively that's allowed though.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: That's allowed.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Right, short hit, Phil.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just gonna go go back to just what one more question.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: One more question for Flo and then we'll do shit or hit.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, and actually, if you two want to chime in, you can do it.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: What is the highlight of your career?
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: Oh and low light because we're important that we we're we're a full pod, it's not all just highs.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: We'll talk basically.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: Highlight is I think Olympic goals.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: I think that's like the dream of every hockey player, I would say.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Uh even with no fans.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was thinking about that.
- 46:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it doesn't change anything about it.
- 46:36SPEAKER_05: It's it's shitty that you score a goal in the Olympic final and you look up into the stand and you're like, okay, there's no one, but you don't you don't care.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: Honestly, I didn't you don't care.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Um then look at him, look at him sneaking in that he scored a goal in the Olympic final.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: What a goal arrogant.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to think this nice guy thing just isn't true.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, do you yeah, yeah.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: You boys all know that feeling when you score a goal in the Olympic final.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Oh don't worry about it.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: Do you do you guys know I just want to play in tournaments?
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Do you guys know the feeling of playing a final?
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh wow, shot fired.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: Congratulations.
- 47:10SPEAKER_08: That's one ups.
- 47:11SPEAKER_08: Oh Jesus.
- 47:12SPEAKER_08: Anyway, sorry.
- 47:14SPEAKER_08: Uh low light.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 47:17SPEAKER_05: Uh low light is uh yeah, but not this one, 2014.
- 47:25SPEAKER_05: Oh, I thought 2018 when World Cup 2014 we lost versus uh England, and we didn't qualify for the uh and because that's the period when we thought we were we thought we were getting there, like we were like, all right, we we just uh got off the Europeans 2013, we played the final.
- 47:45SPEAKER_05: Uh we're gonna get there, and then yeah, nope, we get hit by the the hammer.
- 47:50SPEAKER_05: Uh and so it was a big big loss.
- 47:53SPEAKER_05: Uh and that's where uh our our coach Mark Lomers decided to quit, and then you run Dilmay took over.
- 47:58SPEAKER_05: Oh, but you have the Europeans in 2015 also.
- 48:01SPEAKER_05: That's also quick low light.
- 48:03SPEAKER_05: We fucked up.
- 48:04SPEAKER_05: Holy shit, we that one we fucked up completely.
- 48:06SPEAKER_05: But we were we were in that in a hotel, I think like 50 minutes from Lee Valley, and there was uh just rain pouring into our rooms.
- 48:16SPEAKER_05: Like it was like the worst tournament ever, and then we well, we finished well, we lost again.
- 48:21SPEAKER_05: No, we drew Ireland, and then we didn't get so we had a lot of low lights.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: Well, it's nice to know that even even the people who've won everything have low lights.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: That's nice.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Brendan, Brendan, do you want a little quick highlight and low light?
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: Oh no.
- 48:36SPEAKER_08: Why low light low light will be both World Cups?
- 48:40SPEAKER_08: That's low light for sure.
- 48:42SPEAKER_08: Just sitting there watching.
- 48:44SPEAKER_08: Um highlight it's tough.
- 48:49SPEAKER_08: I think highlight is still that 2017 euros of like doing obviously not making it to the final, but then kind of bouncing back and playing so well as we did against Germany to win that bronze.
- 49:01SPEAKER_08: Um I think that for me like just showed the like resilience of the group and actually like it's the one performance that I like look back on thinking that was that was a fucking wicked atmosphere.
- 49:10SPEAKER_08: That tournament, that whole tournament was sick though, with like the semi-final in front in front of the Dutch crowd where it was just packed, like full house, you couldn't even get a seat anywhere.
- 49:18SPEAKER_08: Like that for me is probably highlight.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: That was when you was really ginger as well, wasn't it?
- 49:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was yeah, yeah.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Proper proper redhead.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in the tournament I won.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: What about yours, Phil?
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: No, it's you, it's you next.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, so Phil, I want to be left.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Um, for me, that's the most important of the pot game.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: Oh whoa, we wanted this is what we wanted.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: We've got to have you back.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Brendan, you're getting replaced.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, highlights.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Ah, there's been so many guys like uh got it.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm talking about.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm talking about.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: You guys don't, but like winning something is really cool.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Um I'd say the highlight is I think 2018 World Cup playing India in India quarterfinal was my first game of that of that World Cup.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: That was pretty cool.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Also, and uh or or the first time we became a European champion in Holland against Belgium when we were down 2-0 and 1-4-2 was also not that's nothing personal for Rah, but it was no no.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: I I'm just thinking about the goal of Kemperman, it was a pretty big goal.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was pretty cool.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: That was a sick goal.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Fanash Fanash could have been that right there, right?
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: But okay.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, low light.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Um, there's also been quite a few lowlights.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Um, Phil leaving Orange Road last year still hurts.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and uh yeah, I don't I wouldn't even call it a low light because it wasn't even light the the last World Cup, like there was nothing, so yeah.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: I think Phil leaving uh Orion Road was the biggest lowlight of my career.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: What about you, Philip?
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, my highlight is the same as Brendan's.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: That's a bit boring, isn't it?
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: But I mean, again, just it just just beating Germany was nice, winning a medal for a change for us is is always a nice thing.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the low light was probably uh the losing the quarter final in in Tokyo against India, when it was like probably what Flo said was like when you feel like you're getting there, and then you think you're really getting there, and then you're not getting there, and then everything's over and you're done, and you've got to go and spend a year with Hugh Demol.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: That's tough.
- 51:46SPEAKER_08: That that is still like the game we played against Belgium in that Olympics was still one of the weirdest scenarios I think I've ever been in in my life, where for the last 15 minutes both teams just kind of decided that they weren't really gonna press, yeah, and weren't really gonna play on the ball, and they were everyone was happy with their draw.
- 52:07SPEAKER_05: Everybody was just chatting like at the together.
- 52:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that was one of the weirdest moments I think I've had in a hockey match.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: Before you you you injured Hendrix.
- 52:16SPEAKER_05: Thanks.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: That's some solid tactical advice, actually.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: We did actually, didn't we?
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: I forgot about that.
- 52:23SPEAKER_05: I don't remember who it was, but holy shit.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, got a nice scar.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Chris Griffiths.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: Good uh, he's got a hard hit.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: His stick probably hurts when it hits your face.
- 52:32SPEAKER_08: It's got big swing.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Right, there you go.
- 52:36SPEAKER_04: That's what she said.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's go.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: Right, on to on to shit or hit.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: Um, we did uh you have you done any research people have been asking them in again, but did it do you have any or should I go?
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: First you go, I'll come up with a couple.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: I actually thought of one, but I forgot them.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh nice, okay, right.
- 52:59SPEAKER_00: We'll I prepared, guys.
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: We'll do the um we'll do the ones from the listeners and then and then uh and then we'll come to you boys.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, Paul Hilsden, uh shit or hit, flickers spraying a sticks white, disguise the ball.
- 53:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, hit it's smart.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I hit shit.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: You don't like it?
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: There he goes.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: It's it's not working.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 53:29SPEAKER_08: It's now a thing though, isn't it?
- 53:30SPEAKER_08: So everybody's doing it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but you know, stick companies are doing it.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: I actually asked, like, I'm not gonna say his name, but it starts with Yip and it ends with Jansen.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: I actually asked him once, uh, why do you spare a stick?
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: That's Alex Hendrix.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: Now now he knows, and in his defense, yeah, he scored some important goals.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: But that's the thing with drag flickers, they just tell themselves something and they all of a sudden Hendrix does it and it's true.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Hendrix just flicks the ball 700 miles an hour.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: If it's white, green, or yellow, it doesn't matter.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: The bulk of 700 miles an hour, of course, it's going to go and go.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: It's definitely more of a superstition thing.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, why'd you work?
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: It's honestly, I think it works.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: It's not it's not the gym or the technique or the hours of training, it's that little bit of white on your stick.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's just doing it.
- 54:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but now you're generalizing something like it it hasn't nothing to do with them.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 54:29SPEAKER_05: I think they're looking for the small percentages, yeah.
- 54:33SPEAKER_05: And that's what he's trying to do.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's to be honest with you, it's just because Y1 won't make us a stick, but they make fucking Hendrix one.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: They were just bitter about it, you know.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we don't hold that against them, right?
- 54:44SPEAKER_05: Um he was on a TV show tonight.
- 54:47SPEAKER_05: So maybe you need to do that also.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: Hitting the big time.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: Actually, we didn't complain too much about him getting a stick, but fucking Alex Stagler.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: Get him out.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: Right, um, Sam Taylor, fellow uh Holcomb player and England player for us.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: He he and me have recently got um boot bags for our for our for our trainers for our Astros.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Little boot bag.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Show hit.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, shit.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: That's a wannabe uh football player.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for me.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's why I say hit.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: I got you.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you have one for your golf shoes, you no, I I keep my golf shoes in the bag with my golf bag.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Always be ready to get called up.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: But so you use them to go to uh to GB training and stuff, like no, I it just it's just no, it's just in my in my big bag, so I don't use it like a footballer.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: It's just so that my other stuff doesn't get smelly.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: I think it's fairly no, then it's shit.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: That's even worse because the whole point of the boot bag is that you carry the boot bag separate.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, but that was point that was pointed out to me, but then I was like, well, I don't want to be a fucking footballer, so I'll just keep using it within my bag.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Might as well just use a carrier bag.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm trying to save the world, Brendan.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can reuse carrier bags, Phil.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: Right, moving on.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: Um, our our friend or my friend Mo, who also is on the FIH board, who constantly puts our our bitching about the FIH to the FIH.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: Um good guy.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: He's the marathon runner, uh Flo.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: He runs marathons.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: No, no, not far.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: He's he's come up with two uh whacking it at the keeper from seven yards away in training.
- 56:44SPEAKER_05: Hit yeah, uh like on purpose or not on purpose.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're just that guy who has a free shot from seven yards away and you hit it as hard as possible.
- 56:55SPEAKER_05: Ah seven oh uh well if I'm the player, I say hit.
- 56:59SPEAKER_05: If I was the goalkeeper, I would say it's not fun, but hit.
- 57:03SPEAKER_05: You need to hit it, man.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: It's it's where the goalies signed up for.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: You knew the job, you took the application, it's part of the job.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: I think you instantly think of a person when when when this gets described to you.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, of like if like there's a chance like it falls to me with seven yards away.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: You think, oh, in training, I'm just probably gonna try and flick it in the goal.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: And there's always that one guy who's like, I'm gonna melt this through the keeper.
- 57:28SPEAKER_05: How does your goalkeepers react when you let's say you're at the yeah, the seven-yard point and you just whack it to him?
- 57:34SPEAKER_05: Like, does he get mad or does he say fuck it?
- 57:37SPEAKER_05: Let's let's go.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: We we you we had keepers before who got really mad, but now we have quite good keepers who are nice guys.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: Good blood, yeah.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: We have nice guys who are keepers, so then they just like deal with it quite well.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: Then they're pissed off, but they're not too bad.
- 57:50SPEAKER_08: Whereas previously it was like a big thing.
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: Uh pinner, pinner, like he gets.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so pinner was a dick.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Pinner was a dick.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: We just say it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_05: So that other team was a bit right when what they put on the board.
- 58:05SPEAKER_08: Oh, you're putting an arm out.
- 58:08SPEAKER_08: Hey, uh it's the other team.
- 58:10SPEAKER_08: I'm just gonna go.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: We're just we're just we're just throwing the ball up.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: You can choose to hit it or not.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Hey Vanash, Fonash just I know from the the year uh year or two uplay with him.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Fonas just just he just he doesn't care.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, he he calls you a pussy.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, just hit it hard.
- 58:23SPEAKER_05: He he saves it, he saves it, then he laughs at you, and then he probably hits you back or something, like to to make fun of you.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: We we had this one year at Orange Road where we were like pretty we were we were we were not that good.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: And Pi Min, we had this exercise, and Ming van der Weer was on like the penalty stroke.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: He got a ball and he hit it like pretty hard on the on but like low on the how do you call it on the backboard, and then uh then then Pi Min said um hey, don't hit it that hard.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: And then then Mink said, Yeah, what are you gonna do?
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Then Piram said, I'm gonna throw my stick at you.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: So we were all like waiting, oh shit, wait, it's about to go down.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: Then Ming got the ball, and he again at the potion stroke, he got his stick in his neck and hit it as hard as he could through Pyramid, and then Piram threw his thing, but like at his foot, like not really, but like like an alibi kind of throw.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: And then they're like everybody was laughing a little bit, but they were like getting serious, and it was like this whole scuffle.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, that's why I say it's a hit.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: I had uh I had a keeper running at me when I was 16 years old.
- 59:26SPEAKER_05: Uh, I was training with the first team and I was rebounding on uh on a penalty corner, and I didn't know what was going on, so I just hit it towards him, but I didn't know what was going on, and the guy started running after me.
- 59:38SPEAKER_05: But I was 16 years old, so I was like, What the fuck is going on?
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: And it was like one of my first trainings with the first team.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Welcome.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, that's so good.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, nice.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, and and Mo came up with one more, and it's talking to a hairdresser.
- 59:54SPEAKER_00: So when you go into a hairdresser, you talking or not?
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: Is it shit or hip?
- 59:58SPEAKER_08: Shit.
- 59:59SPEAKER_08: Unless unless you've had them as a barber for ages.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_08: Shit.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Does Mo really listen?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: I've heard a whole rant about this chetty hairdressers or talkie hairdressers.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, good point.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Mo.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: You need to listen, Mo.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: Um, Flo, what's your shit on that?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: I say I say, oh no, but on that one, I say hit because my barber is my teammate, so it's a bit weird to it's Marlon Landbrook.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: So it's a bit weird to come in and not talk to him.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_05: Like you had training together.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, if he yeah, if he just pissed you off, you just sit there in silence.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_05: Uh no, I have one.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_05: It's about this weekend.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_05: Uh so we were playing um uh practice game against Blumendal, it was really cold, and I'm looking to the left of me, and I'm seeing my teammate with his uh training sweater uh ready to start the game, and then I look at the other side and I see a guy from Blumenthal uh starting the game with his uh his head on, his mutz hit or name Jurit Khorn and Marlon Lembrook.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_08: Shit.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_08: I think that's shit.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_08: I'm not a fan of if it's like a legitimate like practice game.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_08: You've got to be in playable kit, surely.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_08: You can't you can't be doing that.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: But like yeah, he's he's take he's taking the piss.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: That's shit.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you're that wearing uh wearing uh much a hat, it's also shit.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: The the head is not just run a little hard.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: The head is not going to stop you from getting like I'm come on, that's fucking stupid.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe he maybe he just maybe he didn't want to ruin his hair.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's it was cold, man.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: It was cold.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: But I agree.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: I I also said it's cold, but the head is not going to make a difference.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_05: You're I said to them I said to yeah, I said to both of them, just just take it both off, guys.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_05: Come on, they didn't do it.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: We've had people wearing like hoodies underneath their playing shirt before, like for a club game.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Now that's a hit.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_08: Now in a legitimate league game.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_08: No, that's so shit.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: It shows how amateuristic we are as a sport.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it really tells people where we're at, especially in the UK.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_01: At least we stand behind our shit.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_08: Bring back the oranges.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: Lo, did you have another one?
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_05: No, no, that's the only one I had.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: You be gonna come up with any on the spot, or are you good?
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: I thought it was excellent.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: I want to thank Flora.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: I think it was an excellent attribution to the pod.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: It shows for having me, guys.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute, it shows how much you listen because I just asked you if you got any shit or hits and you thanked Flora for being on the pod.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_08: He wants the episode done.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_08: That's it.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_08: He's done, he's out.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: No, I just wanna I just wanna you gotta you gotta give credit where credit is due.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: I never get the chance to thank you guys or say it.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: You you two do a good job.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: This is really a terrible thing.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: He's a new man.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: Flo.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_01: I'm used to two fuck-ups, and you came and delivered.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: So thank you.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: All I do is give, give, give.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: Um my back is hurting from carrying these two fuckers around.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: I'm happy you you came in and helped me out a bit.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: And now we get Phil on the closet because he does all the work.
- 1:03:23unknown: Yeah.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: What can I say now?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: I've just got to repeat what you said.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_08: No, that's it.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_08: That's it.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_08: That's it.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: So so that's it.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: We've we've been let's stick together.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: Flo, you've been fantastic.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_00: We've learned a lot.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're 100% in the running for us to dump Brendan and get his Belgian best presenter.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, let us know.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: Arguably the best presenter we've ever had.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: Let us know.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: Send us an email.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: Brendan at gmail.com.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: What would you want?
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: Any final words, or is that all good?
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_05: No, man, it was it was really fun.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_05: I had uh I had a lot of fun.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: And we heard it from Phil.
