- Shaun: Welcome back to the reset. I am Sean Tucker, Human Performance Scientist and Authority Architect. We are here in the Living Lab documenting the science, the struggle, and the shift for every high performance dad and founder who is ready to bridge the gap between their ambition and their presence. Your attention is being sold, and here's how you can take it back. Step one, put down your phone. Every single social media platform has Some form of advertising component to it. Meaning it has business tools where these platforms sell businesses. They pay businesses to run their ads just like TV commercials. Right? So a TV commercial, typically, let's say the Super Bowl, the American Super Bowl. If you want to get prime time viewing of your advertisement during the Super Bowl, you're going to pay a lot of money for that. Hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions and millions of dollars, for like a three to ten second to thirty-second advertisement during the Super Bowl. And depending on the type and the timing of the Super Bowl, if it's halftime, for example, it's going to cost even more. Because people are taking time to watch this thing. And that's the attention economy that we live in. People are scrolling on. YouTube, on Facebook, on TikTok, Instagram, you name it. Every single social media platform that exists, there is this element of people are buying ad space. So any kind of video that you pop onto it has a little bit of it has some form of like hook or it's got your attention. At a psychological level, it's got your attention. So it basically Forces you to stay there. It's an unconscious pattern, so it's not it's a pulled version of something pulls you in and ⁓ it makes you stay there. Why is that? What makes you stay there? Oftentimes it's because it's interrupting a pattern, a belief. Other times it's just funny and entertaining. Or some other reason. Yeah. So when you see it for what it is, understanding how these machines work, we are the ones feeding them. The algorithm feeds off us and we actually feed into our own algorithm of whatever we're watching. When it comes to ADS though, it works a little bit differently. Because people can buy prime time, not in terms of an event that is more gonna have more eyeballs on it, no. But in terms of getting in front of more people. And depending on the demographic, depending on all of the psychological aspects of this person, what they like, what they don't like, etc., the algorithm knows you better than you know yourself, probably. And these advertisers or these people who are buying your attention They're using those tools to basically l take you to their products, take you to their services. I don't run any ads right now, but I will be running ads. I have run ads in the past. I know how they work. And they can work really well if you have really specific dialed in offer or product that helps solve a problem for a a market who's in need of the solution. Simple. But if you want to take your agency back, you've got to understand not only how it works, but how you can remove yourself or how you can change it so that you ⁓ respond differently. Cause if it's ⁓ happening unconsciously and people are literally taking your attention and turning it into their money, well, if those products are helpful, fantastic. If they're not helpful, well, you gotta do a self audit. Because if you're not doing a self audit, you're just being taken advantage of. So ensure that you really know how much time you're giving these platforms. Just notice what kind of content you're being displayed, like what kind of content is being displayed to you. What kind of ads are coming up? Because all of these things, they're filtered. You are the product that they want. Their product is what you they want you to buy. So don't ever underestimate the power of this system. If you're sick of being exploited and your attention just being literally sold, well make sure you really take agency of that. Take your power back. Stop using those social media platforms and if you can't stop, at least start watching things that are entertaining or different to what you'd normally watch. Or maybe start listening to podcasts. I don't know. Just do something different. Interrupt that pattern that you are in. And slowly and surely you'll be able to stop being so easily sold to. If that helps, awesome. If it really does help you, make sure you recommend it to one person. That brings us to the end of the reset. If you're ready to stop being a passenger in your own life and start being the architect of your legacy, make sure you comment the word reset and I'll send you the seven day integrity reset.
