- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show continues on 710WOR.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, hey, it's hour number two. That's right. That's right.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's three hours now, in case you don't know. It's
- 0:13Speaker 2: nine to noon. So if you just tuned in, you
- 0:16Speaker 2: missed the first hour. A lot to get to today.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Whatever it was last night, they call it a convention.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It was more of just a big rally. but you're
- 0:27Speaker 2: going to hear these stories. And if you read the
- 0:29Speaker 2: fake news, I'm going to say, well, empty seats, a
- 0:31Speaker 2: lot of empty seats. And you're going to see this
- 0:34Speaker 2: one picture that keeps showing somebody went way up in
- 0:37Speaker 2: the back and the furthest end of the bleachers. And
- 0:40Speaker 2: there's some empty seats there. And they took a picture
- 0:43Speaker 2: where the place is clearly packed, but in the back,
- 0:46Speaker 2: there's a section of empty seats, but Zoom in on
- 0:51Speaker 2: the picture. Zoom in on the stage, on the podium.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You'll notice there's nobody on the podium. There's nobody up
- 0:56Speaker 2: on the stage. It's pretty clear if you zoom in
- 0:59Speaker 2: and look. This is way before the thing started. People
- 1:03Speaker 2: tell me that once it started, the place was packed.
- 1:06Speaker 2: But if you zoom in there, you'll notice nothing is
- 1:08Speaker 2: happening yet. No one's on the stage. Nobody's on the
- 1:11Speaker 2: side of the stage. It's way before the convention began.
- 1:17Speaker 2: The big shocking part of this, first of all, The
- 1:20Speaker 2: president's speech was an hour and 47 minutes. Nobody can
- 1:26Speaker 2: watch one speech for an hour and 47 minutes. You
- 1:33Speaker 2: might say, hey, you're on three hours. Well, yeah, but
- 1:36Speaker 2: you remember, we take breaks. We have a newscast. We
- 1:41Speaker 2: got a weather forecast. We take another break. We talk
- 1:44Speaker 2: to a guest. It's not just me for one hour
- 1:47Speaker 2: and 47 minutes talking straight. You can't do that. It's
- 1:51Speaker 2: way too long. Even if you're the biggest Trump fan,
- 1:54Speaker 2: an hour and 47 minutes? You know, after about 48 minutes,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you're kind of saying, well, I think I got the point.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So it's an hour and 47 minutes. You're on against
- 2:06Speaker 2: the NFL opening game, which happens to be an incredible matchup.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's the two Super Bowl teams playing again. So you're
- 2:13Speaker 2: on against that. It's like one of those idiots like
- 2:18Speaker 2: Bruce Springsteen that do these concerts three hours. Three-hour concert.
- 2:22Speaker 2: There are people that do that. I mean, I don't
- 2:26Speaker 2: care how much you like the artist. Do an hour.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Do your greatest hits. It's enough. All right. Maybe, maybe
- 2:33Speaker 2: if you're a big, big legendary superstar, okay, maybe you
- 2:36Speaker 2: could do two hours. Three hours? Nobody wants three hours
- 2:40Speaker 2: of this stuff. Speaking of concerts, Billy Joel. You know,
- 2:44Speaker 2: he's been suffering some medical problems, and he had to
- 2:49Speaker 2: stop touring, and he's... Supposedly coming back. But he finally
- 2:52Speaker 2: revealed it was more serious than we thought. It was
- 2:56Speaker 2: actual brain surgery. Billy Joel actually had excess fluid in
- 3:02Speaker 2: his brain. It's called NPH. It's a very scary thing.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They had to implant a shunt to drain excess fluid
- 3:11Speaker 2: from inside his skull. He first noticed his balance wasn't good.
- 3:15Speaker 2: He had this sense of being on a boat and rocking.
- 3:19Speaker 2: went to all kinds of neurosurgeons, had to have brain surgery.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's pretty serious stuff. And he got through it okay.
- 3:26Speaker 2: That's the tough part. Now he has to go through
- 3:28Speaker 2: physical therapy. Doctors will keep an eye on him. And
- 3:32Speaker 2: he may be touring again pretty soon. Here he is.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Next gen, next gen. Let's try it again.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Because of my job, which is playing rock and roll
- 3:43Speaker 1: music very loud, that it was giving me something like
- 3:47Speaker 1: a concussion every time I did a show. It was
- 3:50Speaker 1: causing damage to my brain nerves. And I could be
- 3:55Speaker 1: losing more brain cells the more I played, the more
- 3:59Speaker 1: shows I did. And I realized that means I shouldn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: be doing this right now. I got to improve. Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That's the other thing about these concerts. Too loud. Way
- 4:12Speaker 2: too loud. I mean, if you love the artist and
- 4:15Speaker 2: you love their music and you put on their music
- 4:17Speaker 2: at home, you wouldn't turn it up that loud. And
- 4:20Speaker 2: who are these people that sit right in the front
- 4:21Speaker 2: next to the speaker? Too loud. It's too loud everywhere.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Like when there's a DJ somewhere in a restaurant or
- 4:28Speaker 2: in a bar. Too loud. Even when you're in a
- 4:33Speaker 2: restaurant and they've got background music, it's always too loud. Now,
- 4:35Speaker 2: that's different. That's deliberate, believe it or not. When you
- 4:39Speaker 2: go to a restaurant, you think things are just there. No,
- 4:43Speaker 2: it's all very scientific in a restaurant. Very scientific. You know,
- 4:48Speaker 2: the menu is laid out in a scientific way to
- 4:50Speaker 2: get you to buy certain things. If they want you
- 4:52Speaker 2: to order certain things, they put them in certain spots
- 4:55Speaker 2: on the menu. They know where the eye goes. They also,
- 4:58Speaker 2: if you look at a menu, there's a list of things.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And the first one is very expensive. The first appetizer,
- 5:06Speaker 2: the first entree, the first entree is like $ 99. You go, what? No,
- 5:12Speaker 2: it's deliberate. They don't expect you to buy that. They
- 5:14Speaker 2: don't expect you to order that. It's to make the
- 5:17Speaker 2: rest of them look very cheap. So then when you
- 5:18Speaker 2: look down and you see $ 49, you go, whew, that
- 5:21Speaker 2: looks cheap. But if you just started, nope, just said $ 49,
- 5:24Speaker 2: it sounds high. And then the music is very carefully
- 5:28Speaker 2: scientifically calculated. It depends what they want you to do.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Some restaurants, they got big turnover. They want you to
- 5:34Speaker 2: eat fast so they can get the table back. So
- 5:37Speaker 2: they have actual music that's much faster. It's a much
- 5:40Speaker 2: faster beat. It's to increase your rhythm, get you to
- 5:43Speaker 2: eat faster. Hey, speaking of restaurants, Carnegie Deli opens Tuesday,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I hear. Tuesday, it's going to open the brand new
- 5:52Speaker 2: Carnegie Deli. It's been gone for 10 years, and it's
- 5:55Speaker 2: not going to be in the exact same spot it
- 5:58Speaker 2: was because something else opened there. I think it's a
- 6:02Speaker 2: luggage store or something, or a florist or something. Anyway,
- 6:05Speaker 2: they're doing very well. So they couldn't get the space back,
- 6:08Speaker 2: but they're going to move one block south of there.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And believe it or not, the place they're now in
- 6:17Speaker 2: was the location of the old Stage Delicatessen, which for
- 6:21Speaker 2: like 40 years was the big rival of the Carnegie Deli.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The Stage, in fact, had been the deli of New York,
- 6:28Speaker 2: the most famous deli, the biggest deli in the 50s
- 6:32Speaker 2: and the 60s. There was an owner called Max Asness,
- 6:36Speaker 2: and he was famous. They'd introduce him on the Ed
- 6:38Speaker 2: Sullivan show. They would have him on the Tonight Show.
- 6:41Speaker 2: He was the... Mystery guest on What's My Line. This
- 6:44Speaker 2: guy was the deli owner famous in America. Then in
- 6:48Speaker 2: the mid-' 70s, two guys bought the Carnegie, Leo Steiner, Milton Parker.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Leo was like the new Max Astin. He was all
- 6:56Speaker 2: over television. He was funny. He was a loudmouth. He
- 6:58Speaker 2: was a great guy. And all of a sudden, the
- 7:01Speaker 2: Carnegie became the number one. Also, they had much better food.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, Carnegie was the deli. So
- 7:10Speaker 2: it closed all kinds of rent problems, legal problems, building problems.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It's been gone 10 years. It'll reopen on Tuesday, 7th Avenue.
- 7:18Speaker 2: New location would be about the 54th, 53rd, where the
- 7:22Speaker 2: old stage deli was. It'll be back. So, hey, last
- 7:26Speaker 2: night's convention, whatever the hell it was with Donald Trump,
- 7:28Speaker 2: the other thing is speech was way too long. Somewhere
- 7:32Speaker 2: in there, he promised to, you know, if you reelect
- 7:36Speaker 2: the Republicans... We'll give you $ 5, 000 in cash. Everybody will
- 7:40Speaker 2: get $ 5, 000 in cash. Now, of course, the fake news
- 7:44Speaker 2: going nuts. I'm looking at MSNBC right now. They're all
- 7:47Speaker 2: over this. Trump tries to bribe voters. The Drudge Report,
- 7:51Speaker 2: which is now a left-wing thing. Drudge doesn't run anymore,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but the people that run it now made it a
- 7:56Speaker 2: left-wing thing. Trump tries to bribe voters. Well, it's a
- 8:02Speaker 2: Democratic tactic. You know, he's borrowed from the Democrats. They're
- 8:05Speaker 2: always bribing voters. Remember Biden with all I'll forgive your
- 8:08Speaker 2: student loans. I'll let you go on the student loans,
- 8:10Speaker 2: which is a bribe. Remember Obama, I'll give you a
- 8:14Speaker 2: free phone. Everybody who votes for me gets a phone.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's a bribe. So he kind of stole their idea. Now,
- 8:20Speaker 2: how would you do that? Give out $ 5, 000? Nobody knows.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Just like the forgive the student loans. Nobody knows how
- 8:27Speaker 2: you'd actually execute that and make it happen. But Trump
- 8:30Speaker 2: explains it. He said the economy will boom under Republicans.
- 8:34Speaker 2: It already has. to a certain degree, but if we're
- 8:37Speaker 2: reelected and we've got two more years, we'll really make
- 8:40Speaker 2: the economy boom. And he said, you'll get a dividend.
- 8:44Speaker 2: That's what they do in big, big companies. If they
- 8:46Speaker 2: have an incredible, unbelievable year, they give stockholders a dividend. So,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, logically it makes sense. Practically, I don't know
- 8:55Speaker 2: if it's even possible. And again, the speech too long,
- 8:59Speaker 2: gimmicks like that don't help. But we'll see. We'll see
- 9:02Speaker 2: what the fallout is for it. Oil prices, let me
- 9:07Speaker 2: just check again. They have been spiking. Yeah, $ 100 a barrel.
- 9:14Speaker 2: That's high, very high. Brent crude, $ 105 a barrel. That's
- 9:18Speaker 2: very high. So the president also explained last night Iran
- 9:22Speaker 2: will not cave in until after the midterms. Now, once
- 9:26Speaker 2: this stuff ends, we've been through this before, where every
- 9:29Speaker 2: war that closed the Strait of Hormuz happened during the
- 9:32Speaker 2: Iraq war. They closed the Strait of Hormuz. Oil goes
- 9:35Speaker 2: to $ 110 a barrel. It gets crazy. As soon as
- 9:39Speaker 2: it's over, not only does the gas price come down,
- 9:43Speaker 2: it plunges. In fact, after the Iraq war, when it
- 9:46Speaker 2: was all over and it plunged, it went down to
- 9:48Speaker 2: $ 40 a barrel. It got incredibly low. So you'll see
- 9:52Speaker 2: that happen here. But the president now saying it may
- 9:57Speaker 2: not happen until November. now the other thing is we
- 10:01Speaker 2: got this fight with Canada tariff battle we put a
- 10:05Speaker 2: tariff on them they're putting a tariff on us they
- 10:08Speaker 2: fought right back so President Trump now banning Canadian alcohol
- 10:13Speaker 2: brands and now the fake news is trying to get
- 10:16Speaker 2: everybody upset about this but let's be honest When you
- 10:21Speaker 2: go into a bar or you're ordering drinks, do you
- 10:23Speaker 2: really care if it's from Canada? I mean, if they
- 10:26Speaker 2: ban champagne, that'd be one thing. If they banned all
- 10:30Speaker 2: the top vodkas, which are generally from Russia or someplace,
- 10:33Speaker 2: but no Canadian alcohol, it doesn't sound too bad. It
- 10:38Speaker 2: doesn't sound too bad. They do make malt beer, sparkling wine, vermouth,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and cider. I can live without cider. I don't need
- 10:48Speaker 2: any vermouth. Keep your sparkling wine. Malt beer, I don't need. Now,
- 10:54Speaker 2: there is Canadian bourbon, rum, gin, vodka, and tequila. They're banned, too.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But I don't think anybody cares. There's nobody ever in
- 11:03Speaker 2: history that ever said to the waiter or the bartender,
- 11:07Speaker 2: make sure it's Canadian vodka. Don't you have any Canadian vodka?
- 11:11Speaker 2: It doesn't even sound good. Now, Speaker Mike Johnson, last night, Also,
- 11:21Speaker 2: he's going to speak tonight at the convention, but he
- 11:23Speaker 2: talked to reporters last night, pointing out, if you're Hakeem Jeffries,
- 11:27Speaker 2: if you're Chuck Schumer, you're going to get done in
- 11:30Speaker 2: by these crazies. You let them take over your party. Mamdani, El-Sayed, Ocasio-Cortez.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And you keep bowing to them, catering to them, as
- 11:39Speaker 2: if you'll all get along. Mike Johnson pointing out, they're
- 11:44Speaker 2: going to eat you alive if they... these crazies, these socialists,
- 11:49Speaker 2: if they win a lot in the midterms, they're going
- 11:51Speaker 2: to throw you the hell out. First thing they're going
- 11:53Speaker 2: to do is get rid of Hakeem Jeffries as speaker.
- 11:57Speaker 2: They're going to primary Chuck Schumer right out of the race.
- 12:00Speaker 2: These Schumers and these cowards, the Pelosi's bowing and catering
- 12:05Speaker 2: to these socialists, don't realize they're the first ones that
- 12:07Speaker 2: are going to get eaten alive by these people. Hey,
- 12:10Speaker 2: Lindsay Clancy, I don't talk about the case too much,
- 12:14Speaker 2: only Because I can't figure it out. I just can't
- 12:17Speaker 2: figure it out. There's a lot of sympathy for her
- 12:20Speaker 2: out there. 11 jurors would not to convict her. Even
- 12:25Speaker 2: in the public, there's a lot of support for her.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I don't know. What am I missing? If you strangle
- 12:31Speaker 2: your three children to death, I don't know where you
- 12:36Speaker 2: get any sympathy for somebody who did that. I know
- 12:39Speaker 2: she went through psychological trauma and psycho whatever, but strangling
- 12:44Speaker 2: your kids to death, choking even your baby to death.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Could you imagine doing that? So this lawyer is pretty good,
- 12:52Speaker 2: this Kevin Reddington, the old guy with the glasses. Now,
- 12:55Speaker 2: he doesn't have a great track record. He's lost a
- 12:58Speaker 2: lot of cases, but he's pretty much at the end
- 13:00Speaker 2: of his career. He's 75. This is a big, strong
- 13:04Speaker 2: way to end his career. He looks pretty good here.
- 13:07Speaker 2: He is on a media blitz all over the place.
- 13:10Speaker 2: He called for President Trump to pardon her. That's not
- 13:12Speaker 2: going to happen. He's all over television, all over the media,
- 13:16Speaker 2: all over radio, talking about how bad Lindsay is doing
- 13:20Speaker 2: right now. She's currently being held at a state-run psychiatric facility,
- 13:25Speaker 2: Tewksbury Hospital. She's crying all day and night. She's in
- 13:28Speaker 2: a very dark place, he says. He says she was
- 13:32Speaker 2: an incredible person, an amazing mother, except for the killing
- 13:36Speaker 2: the kids, an amazing mother. And he said that she
- 13:41Speaker 2: keeps asking for her kid's I want my babies. She
- 13:45Speaker 2: keeps saying, I want my babies. This sounds great, but
- 13:50Speaker 2: you choked him to death. You killed them. You methodically
- 13:53Speaker 2: killed your three children. You murdered them. You killed them.
- 13:56Speaker 2: But the reason he's doing all this, this media blitz,
- 13:59Speaker 2: he's trying to get a deal with the prosecutors. Prosecutors
- 14:04Speaker 2: have to decide if they want to retry her. Now,
- 14:07Speaker 2: look what just happened when they tried to try her.
- 14:09Speaker 2: It backfired on them. So they might be afraid to
- 14:12Speaker 2: try it again. He's trying to get them to make
- 14:14Speaker 2: a plea deal. He wants a plea deal that involves
- 14:17Speaker 2: not one day in jail. That's all he's after, just
- 14:19Speaker 2: that she not go to jail. Now, if he pulls
- 14:22Speaker 2: this off, well, you got to give the guy credit.
- 14:26Speaker 2: That's pretty amazing. Anyway, we got a lot to get to.
- 14:29Speaker 2: We'll get to Mamdani and his crazy grocery store scheme,
- 14:33Speaker 2: which will never happen, by the way, because there's another
- 14:35Speaker 2: obstacle here. We'll get to that. We'll get to Apple,
- 14:38Speaker 2: everything they introduced and more. We'll take some calls next.
- 14:42Speaker 2: 800-321-0710 is the number. 800-321-0710.
