- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: What's up everybody?
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome on in.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: It is that time of week our final sooner's on a side podcast before SEC media days, which means cause football's transferred into talking season.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: We're like a week away under a week away.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, as the sooner's are up on Monday in Tampa, we got most of the pod crew here.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: What does Ryan Aber is traveling back from Chicago?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know which of the Rickley Field concerts he did go to and didn't go to and experience inside that side.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: that he's having more than a week than me who's just been finishing all of the yard work out back, but we got all that done.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: Right, Chapman here up in Tulsa, hopefully out of all the storms, and all that stuff is our fearless leader, the man that made the election.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Another rainy day in Broken Arrow, but, boy, I'd rather be where Ryan Avery is.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: We're planning our 2026 vacation.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: We even started planning our 2027 vacation.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: But now, vacation is hard to come by in 2026 so far.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it'd be what it'd be, but hopefully you've worked in some well-earned time off there.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we just got back from Colorado here recently.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: The man Carson Field in Norman.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: I hope that Colorado was much cooler than it was here.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Even as we experienced this quote unquote cooler Wednesday, where it's merely 90 instead of 10,000 degrees.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was, I mean, for Colorado standards, it was hot, but when you can compare Colorado hot versus Oklahoma hot, it was still a much needed 10 degrees cooler, even if it's 85, that's nothing to us that live here, but been putting in some few freeze numbers on the golf course lately, but excited to focus on the work instead of golf in the next few months.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't wait for this all to get started.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're coming to you here on a Wednesday, which means we're just talking.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's day after and we'll be all star, which has become the SV's night because there's nothing else going on.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thankfully, like the world cups in my final, the second one today, it's literally like the only sports that in the W. Those are the only two things that are going on right now.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: Tomorrow we'll get a singular baseball game and they'll actually be baseball be back this weekend, but we're in that low, thankfully on Monday though our March to fall can't officially begins SEC Media Day in Tampa.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: We've been talking about it.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: We've been talking about it.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yesterday Tuesday, Oklahoma officially announced its delegation.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: We knew Brett Binnables was going.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: We had assumed that John Meteer was going to haven't been made official.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: John Meteer, guess what?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to shock everybody.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: The Oklahoma quarterback will be in the house at SEC media days as will defensive in Taylor.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Why do I see was one of the breakout stars of the 2025 campaign?
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: That was not shocking.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: The one that might have raised a couple of eyebrows, though,
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: Bredsert, sophomore, offensive guard, any peer, the way is headed, it's going to be two offense, one defense plus preventable.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess you've always got two defense in the house, as far as that goes.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Gentlemen, in itself, the guys that head to SBC Media Day, we know this inevitable.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: There are all these guys present really, really well.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think the media of the South Eastern Conference, plus the National Guys enjoy talking to those, but of course, let me come to you first.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're at danger here of July 15, the breeding way too far in to simply three guys, so they're going to talk to some schmucks like us.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that Oklahoma is taking Eddie Peer the Wii, we know the emotional joke he adds to the offensive line that goes all the way back to two springs ago and Troy Everett was talking about the best version of the other offensive line has Eddie Peer the Wii because of that juice.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: We saw it famously in Knoxville, the headbutt heard around sooner nation.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: Are we reading too much into this or is Oklahoma taking any purely a great sign for things to come for this offensive line of maybe the step that he himself has taken heading into 2026?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is a very good sign for the offensive line.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Vinnables has talked about how there were a lot of youngsters on the line last year, Eddie Pierre, believe being one of them, but he described Eddie as someone that could lead as a red shirt freshman last year.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously he's been huge with helping guys like Michael Fassouci, Ryan Fogé.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to like about the offensive line heading into this season with the youth, the talent with obviously Fassouci being a former five star.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: foe jay being a high end for star me there's a lot of talent and i mean this is the most ability the position has seen in a good few years now uh but here but we i think that is a good representative a little bit older than foe jay and fasousey so that probably made sense been in a leadership role for longer than those guys so i think
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: think that's a really good player to bring and then just being from Tampa.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's got to be so cool from him to not only go back to his home but be in a big a big place talking about his team with a lot of high expectations in this year.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really cool deal for him.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Ryan it's a good question I think.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think EPL is going to be good at SEC media days.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be representative.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to say some entertaining stuff.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: speak well for the team for the offensive line for the offense itself for material for all that stuff.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: I was surprised that if you're gonna go to on offense, that one of them wasn't Michael Fassusi who you're going to be promoting all season long as the all-american outland trophy contender in all that stuff.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: One body, whatever.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's your most likely award winner on the offense.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, besides maybe material and satinia.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little surprised about satinia, I understand he doesn't really enjoy it very much.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, cool, that's fine.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: You got to clear, as I recall, I know everybody's doing everything online now and the school isn't what it used to be.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're wearing those masks anymore, but as I recall, they had to clear academic calendars with guys, hey, are you able to go to big 12 media, they're able to go now to SEC media day.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so maybe there's some of that at play that's why EPL is on it surprises but the big thing that surprises me was this defense is going to be rock solid again.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be one of the top defenses in the country, my opinion, as well as several others.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: What about Peyton Bowen?
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Senior year, you know, all SEC safety?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: What about Taylor one?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're trying to get him more run, coming off at all SEC season last year.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: Kip Lewis is an obvious choice.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: You're trying to get him to all America recognition.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: These things start.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: These things, these seeds are planted, especially in a league like the SEC.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're planted.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: at conference media days.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's just our.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so if Kip Lewis goes and he has a breakout, you know, performance at SEC media days and everybody remembers him and everybody likes him and then he scores on a couple of pick sixes to win a couple of ball games.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: all of a sudden everybody's like, I want him, I saw that guy and he was really good at media days.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: He knows what.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a little fuel to the fire, it's just a little added incentive, I guess.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I got to say, EPL surprises me, he's going to do great and he's going to say some really cool stuff because he's built that way, but that's surprised me a little bit.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's fantastic.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: I tend to not read as much into it as maybe you would have back in the big 12 media day where it seemed like you're to hear it was like, we can take five guys, four guys, whatever.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: As far as this goes, you know you're going to have or episode for the defense.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know you're going to have a job material and then from there,
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: The image like satania is not a knock on anybody.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I wouldn't want to talk to us either sometimes But satania.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he just loves doing the car wash thing.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know kip loves it.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Kip's fine at it when we talk to him He's kind of more of a soft spoken and it kind of does play into the kip Lewis off the field Really soft spoken really great guy kip Lewis on the field lineback for psychopath which is exactly what I think Rick Metables wants and and
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: own hynicky save way that not quite the Danny that there's a big personality stuff like that.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I haven't feel like these three guys will enjoy it and it's also you know EPL head-to-back home Tampa kid as well.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I'm not overly like oh my gosh.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: what is happening with Michael Pesusti because he's not going or oh my gosh it's trial here as a boss because he's not like, no, not anything like that but I do think it's intriguing because as we know, Brent Minibles for a lot of this stuff he does have kind of that older school idea mentality of taking someone to media days to represent the program is an honor it's not just like, hey we're taking the Tampa kid just because he's from Tampa or something like that
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: The most important thing for this office in line with that B. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P. P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: The guy who's most likely to win any national awards on this team looks like David Stone.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: In July of 2026, David Stone is getting a lot of run.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: So why not David Stone and see, I mean, we're talking about his junior year now.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: This might be his last chance to go to SEC media days and represent your school.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just, you know, the defense is going to be outstanding.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: There are a number of candidates who could do that.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, how am I, my question is this.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're going to bring three guys.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's confirmed.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: How many texts is going to bring?
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Because every year at Big 12 media days they would say you can bring three guys or you can bring four guys and texts us would bring like six or seven.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: So how many texts is going to bring and have those guys on standby when you find out that number?
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's the SEC difference though.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: Who text up, right?
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: The SEC is pretty clear.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: You take three guys.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone takes three guys, all 16 programs take three guys.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: And then they just have three last year.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: For sure.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, well, since the S, it's just three.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: There's no, the long ones have been put in our place then finally after all these years.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is an actual organization that does things normally Carson, but who've to mention this?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at Watchlist season, whatever you're going to look at, I know Oklahoma on, I think it was Monday or Tuesday had put out like the Phil steel, his precies of all American thick stuff like that.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a bunch of guys that you'd expect, right?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: Kip Lewis.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: Great, David Stone, obviously, in that group, I say, Satanic got some love, takes him down, all that stuff.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: But are there some of the guys?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: I know around here, we didn't talk about a lot of the starters during Springball, because so much of
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: What the questions on this team do are the spring and into a certain default camp.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be the twos and the two deep itself.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: But are there some guys that you've been surprised when you look across the landscape of talking season that have not gotten some of the pub that maybe they deserve heading into 2026?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but one that really stands out to me as Jayden Jackson, because you look at his production last year, even while battling through a foot injury during the season, he put up really good numbers arguably better numbers than he did as a freshman when he got freshman all American honors.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's such a difference maker when he's fully healthy, he's physical, just really
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: makes the past rush that much better when he is able to play when he's able to be alongside David Stone or previously Dominic Williams or Grayson Houghton.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a big part to this defensive line being so good.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: And David Stone absolutely deserves the praise that he's getting.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: He was outstanding.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: Finally showed up showed why he was that five-star guy.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so really cool story there and he deserves the love that he's getting, but I also think Jayden Jackson should be right there in that mix too.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's the day one that stands out, but I mean, I think both of the boat bow and brothers could be sleeper picks to win all SEC all American honors for that matter.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: Cortland Gillerie, we saw what he could do last year against some really good receivers.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think he's going to take a step forward.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: He could be another guy that gets a lot of honors at the end of the year.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: a few things go right, I think a lot of these people could be on the end of season list.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: John, it was so interesting because last year to see me the day, we were in Carstay, we were down at Atlanta.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: You get to the end of it and you look at the preseason all SCC lists and it wasn't super well represented as far as the expectations for Oklahoma.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: We talked through it, right?
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: Regardless of the fact that the defense was really good in 2024, the football team itself is a whole,
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: Wasn't you didn't have your turning quarter back.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: So usually what that ends up being is, hey, oh, you had a good defense.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: I need to fill my other line back.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: I need to fill my other corner.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: Let me go grab this guy or that guy or hey, this guy returned a ton of tackles.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: Carson kind of targeted court and gallery circle in him and Eli Baldwin, I've been pretty surprised.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it's just that java lilies.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how many people are paying attention to that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like the Jane Jackson, I agree with you, Carson.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: I would, I'm surprised about the lack of love, but I guess it's understandable if you're not covering it every day, you might not have realized that he was dealing with a big knee injury that he's just trying to play through.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: But like the corners, the secondary at large, John, I've been pretty surprised how like,
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: little love that it seems like those guys have gotten at least if nothing else picked in one of those guys and saying put courtly and gillar either it's like a third team player or something like that.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'd go with Peyton Bowen senior year if you if you were to somehow I don't know um
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: some kind of magical scientific future formula, I don't know, but if you could take the football IQ of every defensive back in the country, I would not be surprised at all if Peyton Bowen has the highest def... IQ football IQ of any DB in the country.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: That kid is unbelievably smart when it comes to the game of football.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: He would be number one on my last one, hey,
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: just game-changing speed game-changing explosiveness literally game-changing like the game was this and now it's that because of him He he can deliver he don't have to have a fix X every game obviously, but he can deliver the type of plays that can save a season and So yeah, I'm surprised that it has
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: that those two guys have not gotten more.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: And Peyton, you know, Peyton Bowen was a second team all SEC this year.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's gotten some first team all SEC run early this off season.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: So there's been some, but I'm surprised that it's not been more.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's just, and I get it, I get it.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's a 16 team league.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: we're talking about the south eastern conference, we're talking about the team, the league that has put more draft picks in the NFL than any other league by far over the last 20 years.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: I get it, this league is loaded, but Peyton Bowen, very underrated, very underappreciated.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's the rare league that could actually put together like a second, third, maybe even fork team in the precies and it'd be like, yeah, if you're actually doing like a precies in run of it, that makes a lot more sense, especially as they add teams in.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've seen last year there were guys that made second team all SEC that were first team all American or National Player of the Year at the position, I mean, didn't
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'll call him as a kicker.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Wouldn't he taste and go?
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't he like second team all SECC by the media, I think?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: They were trying to find the coaches second team by the media, but he was the player of the year at Kicker.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, come on.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: There he goes.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's what all American were heated up in second team behind a wise kicker and then he ends up with a loop grows and we're all like, I don't know how that works.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: All such to Phil has him as his second team, all American kicker this year, preseason.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I probably would just take the gross of winter and slide him and I don't know Carter, maybe I'm just a two simple as far as that goes.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: What if you're, maybe he justified this?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: What if his second team kicker?
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: is no longer needed from 55 yards anymore.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: What if you often actually produce his touchdowns and he's relegated to kick in one pointers?
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's a possibility.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: This offense is pretty improved.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, maybe the designation as far as steel goes is it's near impossible to win awards back to back year.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be really hard for San Dota when it even if he is similarly dominant.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: But he's very, very capable of doing so other than that,
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: He was just fantastic throughout the regular season.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: EA College football though, admittedly, is that high-on-tate Sandell's chances of winning the girls?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't win that award in any of the 30 simulations that surprised me a bit.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'd still have him to board the top of the list, even if it is really, really hard to win a national award twice in a row.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's the Steph Curry of College Kickers.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: He has no range.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: You live in the edge.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: Are we already, or are we going to go the other way?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: Is he already reached like LeBron or Kobe territory, where he's just so good that we don't give him a BP votes, because it's just like, we've already see, if Tate said down, it's not taking six, 60 orders that we've already seen this before, he's got the short shorts, they're rolled and we're onto the next thing.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, that'd be like the perfect.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: college football encapsulation of the like a small attention span society as far as that goes.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: But it'll be interesting, Oklahoma will be out on Monday.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: Let me share in the stage with Greg Sanky at S&C Media Days.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have big expectations for
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like we the big 12 was pretty well dominated by the Texas tech slash Cincinnati slash monster energy things So that what that wasn't a college football play out banana the ACC can't figure out its tie breakers and they had all this time And they still haven't really put out anything about the tie breakers
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: With the big tin in the SEC, we know that those were the two CFP power brokers, but of course, I'm kind of expecting to say it could do the same sort of stiff on that it's spring meetings and destined, or he's just like, this is not the day to figure out the future of the CFP.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know if there's gonna be anything groundbreaking from that.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: For Brett Venables, it's kind of an odd spot going into this SEC media day where at spring meetings, we got some updates and like Xavier Robinson back in practice, those guys good to go in the summer, have it heard anything about any,
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: major injuries, or anything, this summer, it's been so quiet in the best way that I'm not sure what I want to hear from preventables because I think it's just going to be a continuation of if you're around in spring and they want to run the ball, they want to develop debt.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what else, uh, preventables are going to be bringing in like the best way because it's been in a pretty quiet offseason in orbit.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that is the one thing that you really have to give a lot of credit to about Brit Venables.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: He does run a really tight ship.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: You don't hear about a lot of off-season drama arrests.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: Many of them at least that you see numerous ones at other programs.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: So we have not heard anything none of the insiders have.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I think no news is good news as far as that stuff goes.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, just kidding.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Updates on guys like Jayden Jackson and David Stone who missed some time during the spring, same with Xavier Robinson Tory Blaylock.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hearing that those guys are back up and for we healthy, I just think now that we're a little bit closer, making sure they're still on the same time tables.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to be good.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Here more obviously we talked to Vinaables, Ben Harbuckle, John Matier himself about what Matier is going to look like this year, how he's changed.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: all the tweaks that he's made in his mechanics in his footwork.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think hearing even more about that is feeling is only being about a month away from the season.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to be good too.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: To your point, I really don't think it's going to be very groundbreaking for all you and I think that's probably a good thing.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would agree, Carson.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take this another direction.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good question.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Vennables going into year five.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's coming off a college football playoff appearance They had a great run in the SEC last year to finish He does need to beat Texas.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: We know that that's that's a real talking point needs to be for him The emphasis on playing Texas, but I want to hear Brent From a CEO perspective Okay, I love the fact that he is a you know ballcat backwards kind of
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: gritty, gutty, sweaty, grimy, angry, sometimes defensive coordinator.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: I love that, that's who I would want my head coast to be.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody who gets his fingers in the mud and goes out there and yells at guys and every day when he comes off practice field, his voice is horse.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: I love that about my head coach.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's who I would want to play for.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I also, especially if I'm someone like Roger Denny, the athletic director, I wouldn't mind seeing Brent
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: have an opinion on NIO and where it's going crazy.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd like to see him talk about the nine-game SEC schedule and how it's superior or inferior to a eight-game SEC schedule.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to hear him say, the college football play off needs to be 16 teams or eight teams or 12 teams.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to see him take a stance on that stuff as the CEO at a blue blood historical top of the heat program like Oklahoma.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, how big is the CFP?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about the CSC, the College Sports Commission?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what it is?
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Where they go to Washington and they talk to Ted Cruz and all those guys and say, hey, can you say college football?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: You got, can we take this to Congress?
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Can we pass some laws about saving college football?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear what Burnt Vettables has to say about that.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's the, what's the health of the NCAA?
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: How's the NCAA, how college football back?
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: And how did they advance to it?
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: And what do you think about the future of the NCAA?
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about sports gambling?
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: being available to players now.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: So readily available.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: What is your take?
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: What is your stance?
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: What does the head coach at Oklahoma think about this?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you ask and these questions, guys, what does he always say?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what he's asking me about the SEC schedule.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what he's asking me about that.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what he's asking me about the college football player.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm asking you right now.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Don't ask the question.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear what you think because you're the head coach at OU.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: I just wonder if
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if we got the type of sheet and we fast-forwarded 20 years, and Brick Venomals has established the greatest dynasty that Constable has ever seen.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's won 18 to the last 20 national titles.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: That first of all, I don't even think that guy is going to be opining about the future of the sport.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know if that's in Brick, which
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: I know we've kind of talked about this before on the podcast, it does that matter either way if the head coach at your spot is trying to direct the sport one way or another.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: But Carson, he's one of the few guys that I feel like in today's just athletics in general.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is just a sports thing.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: And everyone's had now by this point of a phone in their hands since they're like 14, 15.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: If you do man on the street interviews, everyone is more like a pundit than just like a citizen or wherever they're.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: And today's like media PR, a lot of times when someone's like, I don't really know either way, I'm just kind of like, okay, you've just been coached up to not give your opinion either way, which is like fine.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of believe that Brent is like, if didn't ask it, would you rather play this or that?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: You just like, you know, you tell me, dog, we'll go anywhere anytime, roll that thing.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's just kind of how he's wired.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he's ever going to, I don't know if it's evolved or just feel comfortable enough.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever the thing is there to be one of the like voices shaping the game is supposed to just be like, I'm just Brent and I coach football and I do it at a call.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm kind of with you.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure it is training.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think it might just be in Brent Vennables that he doesn't think it's his platform to give his opinions one way or the other about some of these major issues.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, from our perspective as people that cover the scene, that can be, it can be a bit frustrating at times.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: We'd like to get Brent Vennables thoughts.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's obviously a very good football mind.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: Nose is talking about this sport has been around it for decades now.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: So we would like to have some perspectives, but if I'm gonna know you fan,
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Part of me likes it.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not lane kith and spewing off about whatever comes to his mind this week That can make them kind of a laughing stock for a week a year a month whatever it is So I mean coaches like that that have they're very strong opinions Not that that contrast with their ability to coach, but it can put some negative limelight on your team Invinables.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean certainly doesn't do any of that very business like no nonsense like I said so from a fans perspective.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a good thing.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, I'm not, I'm not sure it is a trained okay.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have opinions.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: He might be in meetings with Danny like yeah, I'm here or there.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let me coach football.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a football guy.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you guys hired me to do, which I think's kind of what you needed a program like OU.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what I guess my, and I totally respect the fact that, oh, you fans are telling me to shut the hell up right now, our coach just needs to coach ball.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm down with that, like I said, that's the kind of guy I would like to play for, but that's kind of the way Bob when I covered Bob, you know, covered geez Bob for 16 years or whatever it was.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: When Stoops would get these questions, he would always cough frame that are usually often frame it around, you know, I'm just, you know, looking out for OU, I'm not, you know, nobody really want cares about my opinion, but I'll go ahead and say this.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then he would end up saying, and frequently he went beyond just having a take about things, he would occasionally sometimes,
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: actually lobby, especially when we're talking about the BCS, right BCS.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Top two teams go to the go-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, that was a good content for us of course, but the fans loved it.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: The fans would eat it up.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: And you'd have, uh, jeez, name your baby, uh, urban Meyer, uh, dad, um, less miles, you know, would pop off.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: And Bob would always have a response to it.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it was always in favor of Oklahoma, in favor of the health of college football, in favor of comments than it's, I mean,
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, Brad can do speak about common sense and what's right and what's wrong and what things should happen and what's good for you.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see more, I don't know, that produces like I said more content for us but I think it does something for the fans too when your coach is standing up there with names like I just recited, right?
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: National Championship winners, legendary coaches.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Your coach is standing up, they're shoulder to shoulder with those guys.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: There'll be smarts at good example right now.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: You've got two national championships in his pockets, and everybody's always asking about college football.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think OU fans deserve who has an opinion about what's good for OU and what's good for college football.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: I do think though that Brent has like a very clear worldview or however you might label it as far as what his program is and it seems into, he may not have come out in, in, in, in, for instance.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was signing day or somewhere around there.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: He was kind of asked about the future of the the five for five type model, right?
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: And do it with Red Shirts and
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: he can just goes back to my players are a lot better in your three than they are in your two and they're a lot better in your four than they are in your three and he might not have come out and said I print venables believed that for the good of the game we should eliminate red shirts but it kind of all comes back to like I think we know it is world view is he wants the kids to stay in school he wants it to actually do the school part of it as well he wants those guys to
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: stay and develop and things like that.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he is actually like truthfully either way overly bothered if they play 15, 16 or 17 games because of a 2014 or 60 team or 12 team, but I do think it is a spot where he might not come out and say, I believe this on every single rule,
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: we've covered Brexit's very beginning, you came in a little bit later, but it doesn't take long to sit down and go, I know that this is the cop's hope all the Britain rules would like to coach him and he might not come out and want to be in the headline or whatever, but I also think that I think everyone kind of knows where he stands on, like, and I have great, but it doesn't need to be your main thing.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: And if it is the main thing, then we probably need to figure out a way to incentivize it to not be the main thing and things like that.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think there is a fair amount of reading between the lines that you can do about some of the bigger issues that I'm glad you mentioned the red shirt thing because that was one of the even if not totally explicit more explicit things that he's just kind of described like yeah everyone should get years exactly whether you got hurt whether you didn't play anything is a freshman year because I mean it's
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: And his defense, it's very hard for them.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: I assume to calculate, okay, that the sky's been in this many games.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: That many games, so I like that he at least gave.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: gave just kind of a hit of what his stance was on that issue and I mean like you said we know the culture that he runs, what he wants.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I also important.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, money is important, but so many other things like the culture are very important to, and they prioritize the culture of you within his program.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, you can you can see that shine through and some of his answers
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: part of me is with who part of me would like to see a little more explicit and I mean he's also I mentioned Lane Kiffin, he's not Lane Kiffin even if he is more explicit about some of his answers he's not going to, he's not going to make a fool out of himself like Kiffin does from time to time he doesn't add other SEC coaches on Twitter so nothing you have to worry about with Brent Venobles so yeah I'm with you I could I could use a little bit more on the state of college football from
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and guys as reporters as members of the media members of the fourth estate, right?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: One of our, one of our big tenants, one of our primary jobs is to hold accountable the people that the people who are in charge, hold accountable our community leaders.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: And that's been something that's really driven me in my career.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I would like to see, you know, the head coach say,
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, instead of, uh, ideally from, in Brent's world, which is Coach Lymec, and Colin Defence, we would not ask him, what do you think about the college sports commission?
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about what Ted Cruz says?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about what is going on at still water?
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, back when you played, you know, Oklahoma State every other, every year.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, what do you think about the size of the SEC, what, you know, whatever the topic.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: He would prefer if we stop asking those questions, but as like I said, one of our jobs is to ask the questions, those questions, the hard questions, the challenging questions, the long-term questions of the people who are in charge and him being in charge of the OU football team, he got to take on some of those questions.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now, he can say, every time nobody cares what I think, nobody's asking me.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: That can be his answer, but that doesn't mean we have to stop asking.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: He'd like to say, he would prefer if we not ask, but we gotta continue to ask.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: But John's trying to say, as we care, we care about you, we care about your thoughts, Nirvana, that's what we're here for you.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: We're here if you, what about something up the wall, something like that.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: And if he does do it any of that, or if there's any hijigs or any fun, you'll know, Oklahoma suitors onSI.com.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: That is the place.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: To be as SCC Media Days kicks off, which the real thought of SCC Media Days kicking off is it means that fall camp is usually like we can have two weeks around the corner might be even shortened this time since SCC Media Days going a week later they're like well we can't really go to fill in fall the MLB on start game for the third straight year so let's go hang out in Tampa a week later and see what you can attract for
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: there.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's not all that's going on in the world of O-Yuto.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: Car said, you've always got your head on a swivel in the recruiting game, rivals.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: They updated their rivals 300.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's some re-ranking, some new industry-ranking things like that.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Cooper Hackett, now the number 12 overall group in the 2027 class and a quadriper.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: O-Yucumette also a five star in a new O-Yucumette entered the realm of five star, at least in the rivals 300 signs.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Gabriel Osborne, number 21 now in the rivals 300 got his fifth star, and I mean, we talked about a few weeks ago when he committed how big of a get that is for you, not only getting a player of this caliber, getting a high caliber player from the state of Oklahoma, just an absolute fall hockey corner back.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you had to beat out Michigan, Miami, Ohio State, Bama, some of the biggest programs in the nation for him to keep him home.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just massive.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about how important it's been that they've
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: really focused on a lot of these local four and five star players from Oklahoma.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Whether that be Cooper Hackett, Caden Penny, Gabriel Osborne.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a really good effort by this class.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Still haven't seen Osborne play in person really want to get out to a game this fall.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: See what he's got.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, his tapes just remarkable.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: He is going to be a star one day in Oklahoma.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: If he keeps progressing like he is right now.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if there's ever like
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: real real panic or it was just that Jim nagging his crew came on later in last recruiting cycle and we saw some moving and shaking in the recruiting class, not quite what we had seen previously.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: And at the end, Oklahoma did end up with the ZZ, the one local kid later on, but that was way later.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that there was at least a moment of brief pause last
- 34:06[SPEAKER_02]: late spring early so I'm like oh my gosh are we gonna go back to the Lincoln Riley method of like I'd prefer my Texas 3 star of an Oklahoma 4 star stuff like that John it has been I don't know if nice reassuring Whatever the the right word to label that's what you look around and go Cooper hack it yet Oklahoma jumped in jumped in early locked it down that was alignment between the coaching staff and the Print office staff and Jim naggies came pinning same deal game for law sports same deal
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: good to see it took only one like full recruiting cycle for everybody in this new front office model live up to their word.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: Are we going to look for diamonds in the rap?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Are we going to look for market inefficiencies?
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, also if there are studs in our own backyard or we're going to do everything we can to put up a big fence around Oklahoma and make that thing happen and unfortunately it's an expensive fence right now because there's so much damage everywhere that everybody's got that stuff jacked.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: But they are fencing in the state of Oklahoma and you're not having to go very far to see some of the top-end commits in this Oklahoma recruiting class Which is what you have to do in a state where is it every single year going to produce a bunch of on your five stars?
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: No, but you need to be able to strike when you have a store at classes in state like they do in twenty seven.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah You gotta you gotta get those guys when they're there, right?
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's like picking something off the tree.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's a perfect fruit at the right time.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: You got to grab it.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: You can't sit there and look at the tree going.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to look at this one a little longer.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: And this one comes back and it's gone somewhere else, right?
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen that a lot with, uh, especially in recent years, you mentioned Lincoln Riley with guys going Arkansas, guys going to Ohio State, guys going to Michigan, and that happens.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, Oklahoma can't get 100% of the guys that they want in Oklahoma, but they can get a lot higher percentage than they've been getting, and that's what Brent, and
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: and Jim Nagy and those guys have proven or so far have shown the ability to do is to bring those kids in, bring in the David Stones when they're dangling from the tree, you know, easy to grab and say, hey, we're gonna recruit you, we're gonna recruit the hell out of you, we're gonna get you paid in NIL, we're gonna get you some publicity, we're gonna get you whatever jersey number you want to wear and have him come to Oklahoma and take pride in that.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's been missing, guys are going to, like I said, play for the buck eyes or play for the razor backs or play for any number of schools
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: out of Oklahoma and you're like well how did how did what happened and who knows what the coaching philosophy was But when they're there you have to get them there's that there's a kid and broke him up committed Oklahoma great in how they're quarterback I don't know how good he's gonna be in college.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: He could be you know just a guy in college or he could be a spectacular
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: underrated prospect.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: He could be somebody that, you know, I think he's a three-star athlete.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think he just might have gotten up to four-star recently, but he plays quarterback, defensive back, basketball, baseball, you know, he's, he's, he's everywhere, and he's outstanding and everything.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: To the gums for those guys, here's what I'm probably going to Arkansas or Texas Tech or something like that.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to go to you, oh you want him.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it's maybe they're just better at identifying the talent, but they're also more persistent at chasing that local talent.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see there.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned David Stone, it sounds like he has a official proposal for the state, the program, the university, all that stuff's not enough, you guys caught his sit down and things like that.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: And he talked about wanting to kind of set and carry on a tradition of an Oklahoma kid, carried out the flag, an Oklahoma kid, maybe even,
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: wearing zero, a car said you are very familiar, very insulin affiliates with the traditions where big tea, little to all that stuff, Oklahoma, we know that there are one of the blue bloods of college football, they got plenty.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: And but it feels like this is, I've not seen anyone that hates this or dislikes this at all, that this is where not stopping in between the third and fourth quarters and trying to do, let's go OU or whatever the heck that failure has been or trying to rattle through fourth quarter songs that
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: This feels like a really organic, easy laugh.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just like, David Stone helps that he's a badass.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: That helps as well.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: But this is something I like to see Oklahoma trying to roll with and see if they can't make that a thing here and make that maybe an early tenant of Divinibles era.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can never have enough traditions with a historic program like Oklahoma.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the scooters, gray, all the things they do, the rough necks, everything on the field of this spectacle already, but getting some more stuff out that are like an Oklahoma kid running out with the Oklahoma flag, the number zero reserved for a top tier player.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think all of those things are great.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: David Stone being an Oklahoma guy.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: Originally, obviously, he finished out his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: But he is deep ties to the state this program.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and it was really cool to hear him get honest about what his thought process was like, Ethan Downs being huge in his decision to stay at OU after he entered the transfer portal initially.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone that I think should have a lot of saying something like this.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's well loved.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: He produces on the field.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he's probably
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: Almost certainly go out to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft with a vest in 27, 28, whenever that is.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I think those are great ideas.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm someone that regardless of the school, regardless of the conference.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big fan in just unique traditions.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: Even if they're just slightly unique, they don't even have to be major, not big things, but I think that's just one or two more things that can make a useful model program just not much more special.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you guys played sports, and you know that numbers become really, really personal to athletes.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm 40 years past my high school playing days, 40 years plus, and I still use 88 on several things that I'm in my daily life.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Because that was my number.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: That was very personal to me.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: But you have to count you around.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're the top Oklahoma player who's a senior going into your senior year.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: You get a where Oklahoma number zero this year and the kid will be like, I'm coached my numbers 44 man, come on now.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: I changed into zero for my senior year, but if you make it as an enticement, make it as a like your the top player in the state of Oklahoma.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: Every year junior or senior year you get to wear numbers zero and that is the one of the highest honors we can afford to one of our Oklahoma high school kids kids would be growing up thinking about that.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love number 44 But man this year.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm number zero.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I know you you know why because it's zero.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's all you It would be so cool.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: It would be so amazing.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: You can't feel like force them to do it But if you make it like that.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know text saying in number 12
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: Who else has predictions like that, where you give them the list?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: You've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got one, and you've got
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: Make it a real high like the highest honor you can have if you're an OU kit or an Oklahoma kit going to OU, then they start, you know, you'd be like, yeah, that's okay coach, I was number 88 before, but yeah, I'll take you zero, that'd be so cool.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: No, yeah, I think it's really me.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm someone that both my parents went to A&M.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Every generic A&M jersey you see is number 12.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would be really neat if every generic OU jersey that is at Baker Mayfield, C.V. Land, Kyler Murray is number zero.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Just kind of your, okay, does that have a name on it?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to get no U jersey and all of them were zero.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: not any schools have the numbers zero.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: It just kind of sets them apart in having a really special number not many schools do that, but if you do, I think it's just one more cool thing that could stand out about this program.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: It also helps, too, that it that if David's still wants to kick it off and start it, which
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: He is obviously it helps that no shot of day was been like an open before it's not a random OU walk on that's like, oh, I'm I'm just so privileged to be here.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: What you you have it's kind of those cool sources like that that's David's don't who's on the poster That's David's don't who's on the billboard that's David's don't David Stone called me next year coming in from Ricky Camp and he said I want to make that thing happen.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's how you start something like that.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll be toss the top junior top senior, right, because you'd want to rotate it every year you want to make it like the most deserving player.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: This kid was a walk-on from Oklahoma, but he's now of startering linebacker.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and Hyniki, number zero, right?
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: How perfect would that be?
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think his days of playing are gone.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to stick with 38, something tells me.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: dance work for him.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's working for sure.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: And how lucky are we that these are the demanding in-demand topics around Oklahoma this off season because I don't know what's radio game.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: We've been looking north to our friends at Arbor and we've turned our week two trip to Ann Arbor from something that's in on, excited to go to the big house that it might be a wellness check on the Michigan Athlete department.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what's going on there, but we kind
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: Texas Tech to the South and the conference that we used to cover Ann Orber and Michigan and that being our week two to the North.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just very, very thankful to Roger Jiti, Josie, Britt Minibals, everyone topped above in Normand that this has been what is dominated our off season, which means that as we kind of start at the top, it means, of course, you're having a really good off season if you have to really search for storing lines on July 15th.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, 100% I'm excited.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is the next guy to get this Indigyear, get to practice, get to games.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: But especially from a fans perspective, this is all you can ask for a very, very little drama seeing programs like you said Texas Tech.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan kind of winning hand for him.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he must be in over his head.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Quite the situation to adhere it there.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's been quiet in the three mile radius that I'm in from OU's campus.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been good.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: Enjoy it and we're excited to get that thing going all over again when you're athletic director Went sorry when you're athletic director and your former coach are both in the news on the same day That's bad.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's bad for Michigan
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: not good and glad that not be deal with that as far as that goes.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: But that's where we'll leave it here like we said.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_02]: Monday fires up in a big way in Tampa.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back next week.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: Probably choose day maybe Wednesday to get some follow up.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe we can see Texas go and talk and speak before we hop on.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: But we'll have all of your SEC Media Day coverage, Oklahoma sooners on SI.com is the website.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's all pretty everything that's said.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: You don't got to even put your credit card in, have an account, whatever.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: You got it there, Oakland student is on SI.com.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: Big thank you to Carson and the group both for coming, hanging out, taking some time out of your busy day to podcast, but we will talk to you guys next week.
