- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is Wednesday.
- 0:16It's the 8th of October and it's so good that you have invited me
- 0:21into your day so that you and I can do what we do together.
- 0:25We read God's word together. You're my Bible reading buddy.
- 0:28Thank you. Thank you so much A, for
- 0:30pressing on play and B, for being a part of this community,
- 0:34a community that stretches around the world, but well, many
- 0:38of us down here in the bottom corner of Australia.
- 0:41And that we are able to just work our way through God's word
- 0:45chapter by chapter by chapter. And not to get through God's
- 0:50Scripture like a notch on our belt, but just to spend time
- 0:54hearing God's word every day to shape us to be more like the
- 0:58people that God's made us to be. Ah, what a treat.
- 1:02And it has been almost five years since we read through
- 1:06Romans together on this podcast. This was the very first book
- 1:09that we read all the way back when we started almost five
- 1:11years ago. And I just got to say, every
- 1:15chapter of Romans just makes me feel so grateful for everything
- 1:19that God has done for us. What an incredible book.
- 1:22So Holy Spirit, just continue to move us and shape us and guide
- 1:27us and grow us as we hear these words today.
- 1:32Alright friends, let's do it. Let's read Romans chapter 5.
- 1:46Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by
- 1:50faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our
- 1:54Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has
- 1:59brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we
- 2:04now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to
- 2:08sharing God's glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run
- 2:13into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop
- 2:17endurance, and endurance develops strength of character,
- 2:22and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
- 2:27And this hope will not lead to disappointment.
- 2:31For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the
- 2:36Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
- 2:40When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right
- 2:45time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be
- 2:50willing to die for an upright person, though someone might
- 2:53perhaps be willing to die for a person who was especially good.
- 2:58But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die
- 3:04for us while we were still sinners.
- 3:09And since we have been made right in God's sight by the
- 3:12blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God's
- 3:16condemnation. For since our friendship with
- 3:19God was restored by the death of His Son while we were still His
- 3:23enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of His
- 3:27Son. So now we can rejoice in our
- 3:31wonderful new relationship with God, because our Lord Jesus
- 3:35Christ has made us friends of God.
- 3:41When Adam sinned, sin entered the world.
- 3:44Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for
- 3:49everyone sinned. Yes, people sinned even before
- 3:52the law was given, but it was not counted as sin because there
- 3:56was not yet any law to break. Still, everyone died from the
- 4:01time of Adam to the time of Moses, even those who did not
- 4:05disobey an explicit commandment of God as Adam did.
- 4:10Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ who was
- 4:15yet to come. But there is a great difference
- 4:18between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift for the sin of
- 4:23this one man. Adam brought death to many, but
- 4:27even greater is God's wonderful grace and His gift of
- 4:31forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.
- 4:36And the result of God's gracious gift is very different from the
- 4:40result of that one man's sin. For Adam's sin led to
- 4:44condemnation, but God's free gift leads to our being made
- 4:50right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins.
- 4:56For the sin of this one man, Adam, cause death to rule over
- 5:00many. But even greater is God's
- 5:03wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness.
- 5:06For all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death
- 5:11through this one man, Jesus Christ.
- 5:15Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but
- 5:19Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right
- 5:23relationship with God and new life for everyone.
- 5:28Because one person disobeys God, many became sinners, but because
- 5:32one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
- 5:39God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they
- 5:43were. But as people sinned more and
- 5:46more, God's wonderful grace became more abundant.
- 5:50So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to
- 5:54death, now God's wonderful grace rules instead giving us right
- 6:00standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus
- 6:04Christ our Lord. Wow, wow God, what an incredible
- 6:19passage of scripture. What an incredible gift that you
- 6:22give us. Yes, even though we are sinners,
- 6:27you have made us your friend. You, the God of the universe,
- 6:33this all powerful being who simply, with a breath of your
- 6:37word brings all of life into creation.
- 6:41You would count us as your friends, even while we are still
- 6:46sinners. Wow, wow.
- 6:52And as your friends, you open up your arms and you bless us, and
- 6:56you bring us into this undeserved place of love and
- 7:01forgiveness and wholeness and peace and joy.
- 7:07Oh, what joy we have in you, Jesus.
- 7:10Thank you for what you have done for us.
- 7:13Thank you, Father, for orchestrating this incredible
- 7:16plan to make us right with you. And thank you, Holy Spirit, for
- 7:21dwelling in US and continually reminding us of this glorious,
- 7:26glorious truth. Ah, we are yours and we love
- 7:30you, and we bring ourselves to you as your children, as your
- 7:36friend. Just so grateful we love you and
- 7:41we pray all of this in your just incredible name, Jesus, Amen.
