- 0:46Speaker 1: evening for the first time in more than seventy years.
- 0:50Speaker 3: He was a student there briefly.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Bud Willie's doing a concert at the Baseball Diamond tomorrow
- 0:58Speaker 1: evening there. Good to have you with esportion of the
- 1:00Speaker 1: program brought to you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. Michael
- 1:04Speaker 1: early telling the media today that right handed pitcher Aiden
- 1:08Speaker 1: Simms will not pitch this week against Mississippi State. He
- 1:13Speaker 1: said he's had some tightness in his side. He needs rest.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We need to make sure he's ready for the long haul.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The Aggies begin an important three game series with the
- 1:25Speaker 1: Bulldogs at Olson tomorrow evening at six five point forty
- 1:30Speaker 1: five pregame both tomorrow and Friday evening. The finale is
- 1:35Speaker 1: scheduled for eleven a m. Saturday morning. The Bulldogs are
- 1:41Speaker 1: fifteen and twelve, a game behind A and M in
- 1:44Speaker 1: the standings in the SEC. The Aggies probably need to
- 1:51Speaker 1: win two of three to be considered for a top
- 1:54Speaker 1: eight national seed. The Rangers won a game last night.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Look at me telling everybody they couldn't score any runs.
- 2:05Speaker 1: They scored seven last night. That's the good news.
- 2:09Speaker 3: The bad news.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That's the most runs they've scored in a home game
- 2:13Speaker 1: this year. More good news, McKenzie gore went eight innings.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Bad news. They bring in Collier, he walks the.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Bases loaded and they have to bring in closer Jacob
- 2:28Speaker 1: Latts in what was a seven to one game. The
- 2:32Speaker 1: Rangers win at seven to four. They are twenty and
- 2:37Speaker 1: twenty two. Kamar Rocker on the Mound for Texas this
- 2:43Speaker 1: evening at Globe Life. By the way, the roof was
- 2:46Speaker 1: opened last night, might be open tonight.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I don't know. Astro's mariners.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Lance mccullors on the mau with a seven point four er.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Bryce Miller about that making his debut the former Aggie
- 3:04Speaker 1: pitcher pitching tonight for Seattle. You can hear that broadcast
- 3:11Speaker 1: at six forty here on the Zone. Paul Skeens has
- 3:17Speaker 1: been pretty good since being roughed up in his opener
- 3:22Speaker 1: back in March. The Pirates eighth last night struck out
- 3:27Speaker 1: ten and eight scoreless innings, two hits, no walks, the
- 3:32Speaker 1: first Pirates pitcher since the mound was moved in eighteen
- 3:38Speaker 1: ninety three to throw forty strikeouts without a walk. The
- 3:45Speaker 1: last time Skeens walked a batter was April thirteen. Five
- 3:51Speaker 1: starts without a walk in four of those five he
- 3:56Speaker 1: hasn't given up a run. Schemes took a no hitter
- 4:02Speaker 1: into the seventh last night, the single broke it up.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Skimes has been pretty good.
- 4:10Speaker 1: He has, let's see figured out. There's a lot of
- 4:15Speaker 1: stats here, but they just all confirm what we already
- 4:18Speaker 1: know he's pretty good. We told you yesterday A ANDHM
- 4:22Speaker 1: had canceled its game with New Mexico. They made it
- 4:26Speaker 1: official after the show yesterday. They didn't say who's going
- 4:34Speaker 1: to be replacing New Mexico. They had a contract that
- 4:40Speaker 1: they could cancel without paying them anything. That Lobos were
- 4:43Speaker 1: to have made one point seven million, they probably won't
- 4:47Speaker 1: make that against Texas Tech. Texas Tech and New Mexico
- 4:53Speaker 1: decided to play after A and M had canceled that
- 4:58Speaker 1: game in twenty twenty seven. They're already playing Texas State.
- 5:03Speaker 3: And Arizona State.
- 5:05Speaker 1: A and M has one non conference to Phil I'm
- 5:09Speaker 1: guessing it'll be a directional by game. UM. People picking
- 5:15Speaker 1: on ole Miss Lane Kiffin did it, said it was
- 5:19Speaker 1: tougher to recruit in Oxford due to a lack of
- 5:23Speaker 1: diversity and the history at Ole Miss. Then Sark decided
- 5:29Speaker 1: he would pile on, telling USA today, the differences in
- 5:33Speaker 1: academic standards make it harder to land big time portal editions.
- 5:39Speaker 1: At Texas we will only take fifty percent of a
- 5:43Speaker 1: player's academic credit hours. You may be a semester from graduating,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but you're going all the way.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Back to fifty percent.
- 5:51Speaker 1: If you play here in want a degree at ole Miss,
- 5:55Speaker 1: they can take you. All you have to do is
- 5:58Speaker 1: take basket weaving and you can get an ole Miss
- 6:03Speaker 1: degree ouch. NHL Stanley Cup playoffs continuing, The Colorado Avalanche
- 6:11Speaker 1: can advance to the conference finals if they beat the
- 6:14Speaker 1: Minnesota wild at home tonight. They took a three games
- 6:19Speaker 1: to one lead earlier in the week. Last night, the
- 6:25Speaker 1: Sabers beat the Canadians three to two. That series is
- 6:30Speaker 1: now tied at two and it's going at least six games,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and the Golden Knights scored a goal in overtime to
- 6:39Speaker 1: take down Anaheim three to two. The Knights lead that
- 6:43Speaker 1: series three games to two as they head back to.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Anaheim four game six.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And the Maple Leafs need a new coach after parting
- 6:54Speaker 1: ways with Craig Berube today. General manager John Shayeka kept
- 7:01Speaker 1: most of the details close to the vest. Sheika was
- 7:05Speaker 1: clear that Leaf's captain Austin Matthews, who's rumored uncertainly about
- 7:10Speaker 1: his future with the club has been a talking point
- 7:13Speaker 1: since Toronto missed the playoffs.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Had nothing to do with the decision.
- 7:18Speaker 1: None zero, He said, Ruby was a second casualty former
- 7:23Speaker 1: GM Brad tread Living was let go in March the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Leaf's thirty two, thirty six, and fourteen and failed to
- 7:32Speaker 1: secure a postseason spot for the first time in nine years.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So there you go with that. I think that's good
- 7:44Speaker 1: for now. Tomorrow we've got our Clark Eisenhower Outdoor edition.
- 7:49Speaker 1: We will be fishing in the Sunshine state of Florida
- 7:53Speaker 1: on the show tomorrow. We've got a high school report
- 7:56Speaker 1: tomorrow as well. We'll have some preview of Aggie Baseball
- 8:00Speaker 1: on the program tomorrow. On Friday, Jared is sitting in. No, yes,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Jared is sitting in for Ryan, who sits in for
- 8:11Speaker 1: me most Fridays. I will be visiting with Kirk Boles.
- 8:14Speaker 1: We will talk to him about Coach Sark's comments not
- 8:18Speaker 1: only about Olmiss, but about the CFP Playoff committee and
- 8:23Speaker 1: about expansion to a possible twenty four teams. Kirk Poles
- 8:27Speaker 1: will join us on Friday, and we've got some things
- 8:30Speaker 1: to talk about special stuff coming up when we come back.
- 8:37Speaker 1: By the way, if you missed yesterday's show, you missed
- 8:41Speaker 1: the best show of the week. It's always our goal
- 8:45Speaker 1: here to do one good show every week, and we
- 8:47Speaker 1: had it yesterday, but I think we've slapped something decent
- 8:52Speaker 1: together for you today.
- 8:54Speaker 3: You will be the judge to that.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Mallory is here with Entertainment News in the second hour,
- 8:59Speaker 1: Scotland in and we'll be with us here at about
- 9:01Speaker 1: twenty minutes. This portion of the program is brought to
- 9:04Speaker 1: you by and Co Insurance.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 9:10Speaker 4: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 9:13Speaker 4: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 9:16Speaker 4: you know and trust, now with even more to offer
- 9:18Speaker 4: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits. We're
- 9:22Speaker 4: still committed to protecting what matters most with the personalized
- 9:25Speaker 4: service you expect now with the strength of Hub International
- 9:28Speaker 4: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team and
- 9:32Speaker 4: co Insurance a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 9:36Speaker 5: It's tech SAgs Live, brought to you by David Garter Jewelers.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Lane also should shut his mouth about ole myth. He's
- 9:42Speaker 6: got to stop going back at old Miss about anything.
- 9:45Speaker 6: You're now the head coach at LSU. Be the head
- 9:48Speaker 6: coach at LSU, and not the former Ole Miss coach.
- 9:51Speaker 6: Be the LSU coach. Stop talking about your ex. It's
- 9:57Speaker 6: the worst. Now I'll see you a little bit from
- 10:00Speaker 6: personal experience, because I can't get my daughter to stop
- 10:02Speaker 6: talking about her ex, and it's driving her crazy, driving
- 10:05Speaker 6: me crazy. So from that standpoint, stop talking about your ex.
- 10:10Speaker 6: Move the ass on to your team, and keep your
- 10:15Speaker 6: eyes on your team and start. Guess what, Pal, all
- 10:18Speaker 6: the talking about basket weaving and whatever else is going on,
- 10:21Speaker 6: Just worry about your longhorns. Pal, you have one of
- 10:23Speaker 6: the most talent teams in America and you went to
- 10:27Speaker 6: the Cheese It Bowl last year. So calm down, worry
- 10:31Speaker 6: about your damn team.
- 10:32Speaker 7: Texas Live weekdays from eight to eleven on the Zone.
- 10:45Speaker 7: Shot gone Willis, It's around, and it's on the wire.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Find on a bullet ut out all of his hair.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Shot gone Willis, It is all Willie Wednesday.
- 11:00Speaker 3: We thank you for joining us.
- 11:02Speaker 1: And I'm just I'm going to play This is Bill Oliver,
- 11:06Speaker 1: Award winning news director for Brian Broadcasting and wta W
- 11:13Speaker 1: and I'm going to play this without comment and then
- 11:17Speaker 1: we will come.
- 11:18Speaker 8: Back sixteen five WTAW In the seventy three year history
- 11:23Speaker 8: of the Texas Association of Broadcasters, their lifetime Achievement Awards
- 11:27Speaker 8: been presented only five times. You now make it six
- 11:31Speaker 8: as the sixth recipient is Brian Broadcasting Ben Downs. That
- 11:36Speaker 8: surprise to mister Downs given during a staff meeting on
- 11:40Speaker 8: a zoom call from the president of the Text Association
- 11:43Speaker 8: of Broadcasters, Oscar Rodriguez.
- 11:45Speaker 9: I just wanted to take a moment to visit with you, Ben,
- 11:49Speaker 9: and here with your team. There's a lot going on
- 11:54Speaker 9: at the TAB as always, and once again we need
- 12:01Speaker 9: you and I'm hoping that you'll be able to help
- 12:05Speaker 9: us with this project.
- 12:08Speaker 10: There's a point.
- 12:11Speaker 9: I guess it all started about what it like thirty
- 12:16Speaker 9: or thirty one years ago when this man I'd never
- 12:22Speaker 9: really heard of shows up and helps us celebrate the
- 12:25Speaker 9: opening of the TV building. I think that was what
- 12:29Speaker 9: was at ninety nine. Maybe you started in ninety six,
- 12:33Speaker 9: was that it.
- 12:34Speaker 11: Don't really I assume you're talking about Benny Springer.
- 12:40Speaker 9: No, no, no, no, no, no, it was Ben Downs.
- 12:43Speaker 9: I'm pretty sure no one's known about it. But so
- 12:49Speaker 9: we've got some things coming up and I do need
- 12:51Speaker 9: your help with it, and it really all kind of
- 12:55Speaker 9: revolves around you, unfortunately or fortunately for us, because we
- 12:59Speaker 9: know that you will get it done, and that's really
- 13:02Speaker 9: what this is all about. Throughout your career, you've been
- 13:06Speaker 9: getting it done, and more than that, you've been getting
- 13:09Speaker 9: it all done in a meaningful way that benefits not
- 13:14Speaker 9: just of course, the station and your operations and your listeners,
- 13:18Speaker 9: the people in your community, the people across the state,
- 13:21Speaker 9: other broadcasters, even beyond the state, across the country. You
- 13:29Speaker 9: have served as our board chairman twice. You have run
- 13:35Speaker 9: through the.
- 13:36Speaker 10: Mill of board service almost twice.
- 13:42Speaker 9: Because when you first joined the board, people really immediately
- 13:46Speaker 9: realized you're a great leader, and they quickly advanced to
- 13:50Speaker 9: you to the Executimmittee, where you've eventually served your first
- 13:55Speaker 9: term as chair, and then you jumped right back in
- 14:00Speaker 9: as soon as you could and did the full course
- 14:04Speaker 9: of eleven years of service on the board, and then
- 14:07Speaker 9: all through the Executive Committee, and then beyond that you
- 14:14Speaker 9: moved on to the NAB board and did some great
- 14:18Speaker 9: work there. I've never seen a broadcaster operate at the
- 14:24Speaker 9: level that you operate. Ben to be interfacing with a
- 14:29Speaker 9: Member of Congress on the floor of the House to
- 14:32Speaker 9: craft fix legislation to do what we needed it to do.
- 14:38Speaker 9: Despite the NAB's assurance that it was good enough.
- 14:44Speaker 10: We knew it wasn't, and you made.
- 14:46Speaker 9: Sure that we fixed that spectrum repac fund to take
- 14:51Speaker 9: care of FM radio stations costs that were resulting from
- 14:56Speaker 9: that adjustment and that change.
- 14:59Speaker 10: Really, there's no so there is no part of TAB.
- 15:03Speaker 9: There's no big effort undertaking project that you haven't been
- 15:11Speaker 9: involved in influencing and making a great success. You recruited
- 15:19Speaker 9: young leaders like Jason high Tower, bless his heart, to
- 15:25Speaker 9: serve and inspire others.
- 15:27Speaker 10: You have.
- 15:31Speaker 9: Groomed a generation of broadcast leaders, folks like David Loving
- 15:36Speaker 9: who now runs one of the biggest TV stations and
- 15:39Speaker 9: one of the biggest markets in the state, in the country,
- 15:44Speaker 9: working with Anne Arnold on the emergency alert system, helping me.
- 15:50Speaker 10: Following her footsteps.
- 15:54Speaker 9: Building up the TAB show to the extraordinary event, the
- 15:59Speaker 9: very special event that it is in our industry, our
- 16:04Speaker 9: scholarship program for the foundation, fundraising for the foundation.
- 16:11Speaker 10: You've done it all.
- 16:14Speaker 9: I've had the privilege of working for Texas Broadcasters.
- 16:20Speaker 10: For thirty two years.
- 16:25Speaker 9: I've had the privilege of really kind of straddling the
- 16:31Speaker 9: generations of leaders into this industry and new Van Kennedy
- 16:37Speaker 9: and worked with him and all those other folks since then,
- 16:45Speaker 9: and you been downs stand right up there with the
- 16:52Speaker 9: real giants of our industry, not in Texas, but in
- 16:55Speaker 9: the country. And so this is really a long way
- 17:00Speaker 9: of saying, I can't believe I'm so emotional, but I
- 17:03Speaker 9: think that reflects the deep admiration and respect that I
- 17:09Speaker 9: have for you. That the entire team at TAB does,
- 17:12Speaker 9: that the entire board of directors does, and for the
- 17:16Speaker 9: now dozens and dozens and dozens of broadcasters who have
- 17:21Speaker 9: worked with you over the past decades to build a
- 17:25Speaker 9: stronger and greater industry, to shape the chief advocacy organization
- 17:33Speaker 9: and service organization for this industry that is THAB.
- 17:37Speaker 10: No one has had a greater impact. And so I
- 17:43Speaker 10: am delighted.
- 17:44Speaker 9: To share with you the great news, the appropriate news,
- 17:49Speaker 9: that you have been selected to be honored with TB's
- 17:53Speaker 9: Lifetime Achievement Award at the.
- 17:55Speaker 10: TAB Show in Autists.
- 18:00Speaker 9: This is not one of those awards that just has
- 18:03Speaker 9: to be handed out every year.
- 18:06Speaker 10: This is an honor.
- 18:08Speaker 9: This is an honor that is reserved for the true
- 18:14Speaker 9: handful of people who make an extraordinary difference in this industry.
- 18:23Speaker 9: And Arnold, George, Marty Wendell mays, that's extraordinary company. And
- 18:32Speaker 9: I am just so grateful to have the opportunity to
- 18:35Speaker 9: work with you, to learn from you, to serve with you,
- 18:40Speaker 9: and I hope that that opportunity continues for both of
- 18:44Speaker 9: us for many years to come. But certainly it is
- 18:49Speaker 9: imperative that we sit back, stand back and take a
- 18:53Speaker 9: moment and reflect on the extraordinarily good work that you've
- 18:56Speaker 9: done and to celebrate your accomplishments and your contributions.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Here's the response from mister Downs upon learning he will
- 19:05Speaker 8: become the sixth recipient in the seventy three year history
- 19:09Speaker 8: of the Text Association of Broadcasters to receive the Association's
- 19:13Speaker 8: Lifetime Achievement Award OSCAR.
- 19:16Speaker 12: Thank you and thank the tab selection people who did it.
- 19:21Speaker 12: I have been able to keep myself busy, I admit,
- 19:27Speaker 12: and with any luck, I've keep myself busy for a
- 19:30Speaker 12: couple of more years anyway, and this is this is
- 19:35Speaker 12: kind of unexpected.
- 19:36Speaker 11: And really appreciated.
- 19:39Speaker 10: Thank you, Thank you very much.
- 19:41Speaker 11: Who else do I need to thank for this?
- 19:43Speaker 10: This is great stuff.
- 19:45Speaker 9: The board, the executive committee, and not a small number
- 19:51Speaker 9: of other people. Certainly your surviving predecessors were key to that,
- 19:56Speaker 9: as well.
- 19:57Speaker 10: Serving with the TAB has been the thun part of
- 20:00Speaker 10: all of it.
- 20:01Speaker 8: Thanks to everybody any thanks again to the President of
- 20:04Speaker 8: the Text Association are broadcasters Oscar Rodriguez. Making the surprise
- 20:08Speaker 8: presentation to Brian Broadcastings Ben Downs s he'll be the
- 20:12Speaker 8: sixth recipient of the tab's Lifetime Achievement Award. The award
- 20:18Speaker 8: to be presented in August during the tab's annual convention
- 20:21Speaker 8: and Trade show. That's the sixteen twenty ninety four to
- 20:24Speaker 8: five wtaw.
- 20:26Speaker 1: That was award winning news director Bill Oliver, and we
- 20:30Speaker 1: are joined in studio by mister Ben d.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Downs.
- 20:36Speaker 13: Area man, Well, this is the this is the kind
- 20:39Speaker 13: of unanticipated publicity I think really puts you on the map.
- 20:45Speaker 13: Well be to be with the Chip Howard at the
- 20:49Speaker 13: Chip Howard Sports Stook Show.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You know, De Lucy's already asked for equal time.
- 20:53Speaker 1: I didn't see that, as you know, as I just
- 20:55Speaker 1: didn't anticipate that when I invited you in.
- 20:58Speaker 3: And I'm sorry, I.
- 20:59Speaker 13: Didn't know that it had been so many years between
- 21:03Speaker 13: people getting this fantastic award and recognition until I started
- 21:08Speaker 13: looking at how many names had asterix.
- 21:10Speaker 1: By them, which means they're all dead.
- 21:12Speaker 11: They have passed from this.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yes, you're the only You're the only living recipient right now,
- 21:18Speaker 1: aren't you.
- 21:20Speaker 13: There is San Antonio, he used to work here when
- 21:24Speaker 13: he was just a college student.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Who didn't I think getting lied?
- 21:29Speaker 1: Uh. To show you our appreciation, mister Downs, I'm going
- 21:34Speaker 1: to give you a family four packed to Moody Gardens
- 21:37Speaker 1: for for your win.
- 21:38Speaker 11: Don't those expire?
- 21:40Speaker 3: Yeah? They expire Saturday, Saturday. Yeah, So go quick, take
- 21:44Speaker 3: the grandkids.
- 21:47Speaker 11: Everybody in the drive really fast.
- 21:52Speaker 3: In the station wagon and take him and take them
- 21:54Speaker 3: to Galveston. Uh, this is you know.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Louie and I talked about this this morning on his
- 21:59Speaker 1: prom I wanted to just say thank you and congratulations publicly.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I don't think people understand the amount of effort and time,
- 22:09Speaker 1: uh that you put into fighting for local radio, with
- 22:12Speaker 1: the emphasis being on local.
- 22:14Speaker 11: It has.
- 22:15Speaker 13: It has taken a bit of effort and all. I'm
- 22:17Speaker 13: really surprised everyone everyone likes local radio.
- 22:22Speaker 11: Everybody does, yes, But I just.
- 22:24Speaker 13: Sometimes I worry that we don't let people know that
- 22:27Speaker 13: it that it takes some doing. Yes, it doesn't just happen.
- 22:32Speaker 13: I mean, we have to convince you every day to
- 22:35Speaker 13: come in here. And act, Well, you don't do it
- 22:37Speaker 13: on Friday.
- 22:37Speaker 11: Now, we have to convince you on a regular yes,
- 22:41Speaker 11: and it's it takes something.
- 22:43Speaker 13: The one of the biggest things that I think we
- 22:46Speaker 13: did was there was a period of time there where
- 22:48Speaker 13: we did a program programming thing called AM Revitalization and
- 22:54Speaker 13: that's the that's when we put together the uh you know,
- 22:58Speaker 13: took AM station back hours and put it matched them
- 23:03Speaker 13: up with an FM station and it's that took a while,
- 23:07Speaker 13: uh and a lot of trips to Washington, d C.
- 23:10Speaker 13: But eventually the people there came around to seeing things
- 23:13Speaker 13: our way and that was that was good.
- 23:15Speaker 3: They were taking AM radio out of cars as well.
- 23:19Speaker 11: That's you know that let me let me talk about that. Yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 11: they still may.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Be Yeah, I get that. We have we have you're
- 23:28Speaker 1: still fighting that battle, right.
- 23:29Speaker 13: We have rules that are pending to say no, if
- 23:32Speaker 13: you're going to take them out, you know, you can't
- 23:34Speaker 13: really do that because this AM radio is the back
- 23:37Speaker 13: backbone of the emergency alert system and there are a
- 23:40Speaker 13: lot of people who listen to it and if you
- 23:42Speaker 13: take it out, we know what's going to happen. What's
- 23:45Speaker 13: going to happen is it'll be a service. In other words,
- 23:48Speaker 13: you'll pay for it. Yes, it'll be like the car
- 23:51Speaker 13: seat heaters and Mercedes where you have to pay to
- 23:54Speaker 13: have those activated.
- 23:56Speaker 11: Yeah, they are good, They're worth it.
- 23:58Speaker 13: And and the problem that the thing that's throwing me
- 24:02Speaker 13: off is how difficult it is to get it across
- 24:05Speaker 13: the line. Because we have we being in ab a
- 24:09Speaker 13: National Association of Broadcasters and the broadcasting industry. We are
- 24:14Speaker 13: in a world right now in Washington, d C. Where
- 24:17Speaker 13: ninety eight percent of the people in the Senate and
- 24:21Speaker 13: the House, all who have taken a position, has said,
- 24:24Speaker 13: you go, guys, we like what you do. You do
- 24:27Speaker 13: a lot of service for America. You do great service
- 24:30Speaker 13: for your local communities and everything. And we say, well,
- 24:34Speaker 13: here's a bill.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Let's go ahead and good way past that.
- 24:36Speaker 11: Past that now. Yeah, and we haven't been able to yet.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yeah, well imagine that.
- 24:40Speaker 11: Imagine that.
- 24:41Speaker 13: Yeah, So I don't it's kind of a surprise to
- 24:45Speaker 13: all of us that it's taken the pushing that it
- 24:48Speaker 13: has to.
- 24:48Speaker 11: Try to get that.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Well, again, you've spent a lot of time up there.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I don't know why you're surprised at that, but.
- 24:57Speaker 13: It's gone past the point of general luggishness on the
- 25:01Speaker 13: part of Congress right now.
- 25:02Speaker 11: Yeah, but hey, get there, we are. Yeah, I have people,
- 25:06Speaker 11: we have people working on that.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Uh. You will be granted this honor in August, I
- 25:11Speaker 1: believe at a really fancy resort in suburban Austin.
- 25:15Speaker 11: It is a resort that has a swimming association, a.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Swimming water park.
- 25:21Speaker 11: Right, it's a water park.
- 25:22Speaker 13: Yeah, really makes me feel talking about the recent swimming
- 25:25Speaker 13: classes I've taken, so it'll be very convenient for me.
- 25:29Speaker 3: And I didn't know this about you after all these years.
- 25:31Speaker 13: You have in my seventies and you're learning this sweaer
- 25:34Speaker 13: learned how to swim, and all those trips you've taken
- 25:37Speaker 13: to the.
- 25:37Speaker 11: Beach yep, yep, many trips to the.
- 25:39Speaker 3: But you don't get that close to the water, no
- 25:42Speaker 3: sharks and that. Well that's true. I mean.
- 25:47Speaker 13: There's a reason for it too, because Lily and I
- 25:50Speaker 13: are celebrating our fiftieth wedding.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Congratulations, how far we just did our forty ninth last month. Okay,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you got married really young, much younger than than idea.
- 26:00Speaker 11: Yeah, four we were like four years older.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yes, that's what I tell people.
- 26:04Speaker 13: Yeah, but Lily and I will be married fifty years
- 26:07Speaker 13: on the twenty second, and we're going to go to.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Belize, and so there's water there if you go.
- 26:15Speaker 13: You know, Lily, for some unknown reason, wanted to invite
- 26:18Speaker 13: the whole family. Ha, So eight of us will be
- 26:21Speaker 13: getting on a big old joy.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Bless you, bless you, my son. Yeah, no, wait, look
- 26:27Speaker 3: we do.
- 26:27Speaker 11: This Emily get together. Yeah.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Well we do it once a year down at South Padre.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Okay, but but I'm pretty sure my wife's on board
- 26:36Speaker 1: with this. We've made the decision that if the rest
- 26:39Speaker 1: of the family wants to send us a card or
- 26:42Speaker 1: come over and have dessert at some point to celebrate
- 26:45Speaker 1: our fiftieth coming up, then there'll be more than welcome
- 26:48Speaker 1: to do that. But we're not taking them on our
- 26:51Speaker 1: fiftieth anniversary.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Truth.
- 26:52Speaker 13: It's kind of a thought that I I didn't mention
- 26:56Speaker 13: to Lily that Belize is nice, sounds great, but you know,
- 27:00Speaker 13: Galveston's Cloth and.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Yeah, if you want to take everybody and cheaper, uh huh.
- 27:04Speaker 11: And you don't really have to worry about floating in
- 27:06Speaker 11: the water, and.
- 27:07Speaker 13: Because nobody will want to, and so that's that's convenience
- 27:11Speaker 13: as far as I'm concerned.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Exactly, well, that's awesome. I think that'll be awesome. We
- 27:16Speaker 1: were in Belat a couple of years ago. Uh did uh,
- 27:20Speaker 1: there's a whole story that I won't h did uh
- 27:24Speaker 1: surfer turf. The wind was was howling actually, uh most
- 27:29Speaker 1: of the time we were there, because of course we
- 27:30Speaker 1: were supposed to go fishing and the wind.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Was just really howling. Uh.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But that's neither here nor there. There's a long story
- 27:37Speaker 1: that I won't get into. This isn't about me. It's
- 27:40Speaker 1: about mister Dallas and I and people who don't know
- 27:44Speaker 1: the history. I told other people today, I said, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 1: he I don't know why he hired me like three
- 27:51Speaker 1: different times because every single time it cost him a
- 27:55Speaker 1: lot of problems.
- 27:57Speaker 13: It was expensive at some point. Yes, you just mellow
- 28:03Speaker 13: I have in your old days.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You know what I've realized after forty five years or something.
- 28:09Speaker 3: In radio, I.
- 28:10Speaker 13: Still twitch when I hear WGN. I just wish.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Citizens united for better service. Mister Dallas.
- 28:17Speaker 1: That is it was citizens, you know, blessed Joe Tobacco's heart,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and that that set down meeting that we had face
- 28:26Speaker 1: to face. It apparently didn't accomplish anything. So we called
- 28:29Speaker 1: you anyway, that's neither here nor there at this point,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I owe most of my career to this gentleman right here,
- 28:39Speaker 1: as do a lot of people, frankly, and we just
- 28:42Speaker 1: wanted to acknowledge this, this unbelievable award that you You've
- 28:47Speaker 1: gotten a lot of awards, that the halls are stacked
- 28:51Speaker 1: with them.
- 28:51Speaker 13: When they said that you won the Lifetime Achievement Award, right,
- 28:55Speaker 13: I thought they were talking about that TV network that
- 28:57Speaker 13: has all the women in dangers.
- 28:58Speaker 3: And what did I tell you about winning a lifetime award?
- 29:02Speaker 11: You said, they don't give that to twenty year old?
- 29:04Speaker 3: They do, They do not give that award to toenty girl.
- 29:08Speaker 13: I've always said that down here, I'm a lot closer
- 29:11Speaker 13: to the dessert trade than I am to.
- 29:14Speaker 11: The salad bar.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I always say, you're on the back nine. Let's just
- 29:19Speaker 1: put it that way. You're you're on the back nine way.
- 29:22Speaker 11: That's the that's the story.
- 29:24Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 29:25Speaker 11: I can't think it's going to be. I haven't really
- 29:28Speaker 11: wrapped my head around it yet.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Well hope, hopefully, oh no, they've noticed. Hopefully they'll have
- 29:36Speaker 1: a room room for a couple of interlopers at the
- 29:39Speaker 1: water park that that weekend.
- 29:41Speaker 13: I'm certainly hoping. So I'm just hoping it's deep enough
- 29:44Speaker 13: I can put my new snorkeling.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Are you going to snorkel in police.
- 29:50Speaker 11: Yes, that's what the whole point has been to be able.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Wow, I'm impressed that you would do that. We actually
- 29:56Speaker 1: just did that down in the Florida Keys like ten
- 29:58Speaker 1: days ago. So really, yes, no sharks and I didn't
- 30:02Speaker 1: die or no, no, no, no, no convinced you're.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Still not going.
- 30:06Speaker 1: The good news is the saltwater kind of keeps you
- 30:08Speaker 1: buoyant if you would go to the Great Salt Lake
- 30:11Speaker 1: in Utah.
- 30:12Speaker 11: So is walking on the sand that keeps you kind
- 30:15Speaker 11: of boying.
- 30:15Speaker 3: And there's no sharks on the sharks at all.
- 30:18Speaker 13: Yeah, well it's it's I've been a great day. I
- 30:21Speaker 13: won this award and I got to appear.
- 30:24Speaker 11: Let's talk this.
- 30:25Speaker 3: This is something you'll remember the rest of your life,
- 30:28Speaker 3: however long. I hope it's long.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Thank you, mister downs Uh, he is the GM with
- 30:34Speaker 1: the mostess Bend Downs area man and I have said
- 30:37Speaker 1: and I hope this is true. And I know a
- 30:41Speaker 1: couple of people from the Eagle listen to me. But
- 30:44Speaker 1: we have the perfect headline for you tomorrow. Area Man
- 30:51Speaker 1: wins another award.
- 30:54Speaker 11: And that's the kind of what do you think, that's
- 30:55Speaker 11: the kind of warm touching thing.
- 30:57Speaker 1: This is why I've been in this business as long
- 30:59Speaker 1: as it has. The Area Man wins another award. I
- 31:04Speaker 1: think that should be the headline.
- 31:07Speaker 11: Well, if Kelly Brown were there.
- 31:08Speaker 3: If Kelly Brown were there, she would make it happen.
- 31:10Speaker 3: My gosh.
- 31:11Speaker 1: So I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful we can put that up
- 31:15Speaker 1: on the bulletin board.
- 31:16Speaker 11: Thank you so much for the love.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Thank you, mister Downs, thank you for putting up with
- 31:20Speaker 1: me all these years. General Manager Ben Downs and from

- 32:01Speaker 1: Galeria is the place and has always been the place.

- 35:07Speaker 17: And we're playing.
- 35:09Speaker 11: Even if you've won before.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't matter. I'm not you know I won.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Even if you've won before, you can win again. All
- 35:17Speaker 1: the prize pigs call in. Uh, let's talk a little baseball,
- 35:22Speaker 1: big weekend starting early tomorrow.
- 35:24Speaker 17: We're talking to that baseball.
- 35:26Speaker 1: We're going to start right off. Let's let's start right
- 35:28Speaker 1: off the top. Okay, this team going to be healthy
- 35:33Speaker 1: enough to compete by by n C double a time.
- 35:36Speaker 17: By n C double a time.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Yes, Okay, are they.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Healthy enough to compete against a good Mississippi State team
- 35:42Speaker 1: at home with the south wind blowing out, there's gonna
- 35:45Speaker 1: be a lot of runs.
- 35:46Speaker 18: I think this weekend they can compete because they're going
- 35:49Speaker 18: to compete with.
- 35:50Speaker 3: And Ben Royo hit go seven for seven again with
- 35:53Speaker 3: three home runs.
- 35:53Speaker 17: I'm not gonna say can't because that'd be good. That
- 35:57Speaker 17: would be good.
- 35:57Speaker 18: Yeah, I've seen a hot ben Royo not just have
- 36:01Speaker 18: a day that was a day that without a doubt,
- 36:05Speaker 18: that was a day that was But we've also seen
- 36:07Speaker 18: two weeks and you know, so I'm not going to
- 36:11Speaker 18: say that he can't do that again.
- 36:14Speaker 11: It would be need to.
- 36:15Speaker 18: He may need to, the offense may need to see
- 36:18Speaker 18: that kind of performance.
- 36:22Speaker 3: So in your mind, how is the pitching going to
- 36:25Speaker 3: set up this week?
- 36:28Speaker 17: Darden is an opener. He announced that day to follow.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Western Friday on Friday.
- 36:38Speaker 18: And Wes and Moss on Friday with everybody you can
- 36:42Speaker 18: pitch to win that game.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no matter what happens on Thursday, no matter what
- 36:48Speaker 1: happens Thursday.
- 36:50Speaker 18: So and I think that, uh, you know, it might
- 36:54Speaker 18: be the right time for Mississippi State to show up
- 36:58Speaker 18: because you know, you don't know what's going to be
- 37:02Speaker 18: on Sunday for either team, right, because.
- 37:06Speaker 1: They're straddling as well, right, Yes, I mean they're coming
- 37:11Speaker 1: in thinking we could be a top eight seed, you
- 37:13Speaker 1: think or not.
- 37:15Speaker 18: I don't think they Okay, I don't think they're quite
- 37:19Speaker 18: in that position.
- 37:20Speaker 17: They're close, Yeah, they would have to do.
- 37:22Speaker 18: Some damage in the conference tournament. Now still top four
- 37:28Speaker 18: in the conference tournament. You win two out of three,
- 37:30Speaker 18: you're gonna be top four in the conference tournament. You're
- 37:32Speaker 18: not gonna play but three games the next week at
- 37:37Speaker 18: most if you can get to the top four, and
- 37:41Speaker 18: I don't even know if you would play more than
- 37:43Speaker 18: two games with the relative health of the pitching staff.
- 37:46Speaker 18: So I would still say that.
- 37:50Speaker 1: That is the in your mind. You followed this more
- 37:54Speaker 1: closely the conference tournament. What kind of way does that
- 38:00Speaker 1: carry when they start making some decisions.
- 38:05Speaker 17: It carries weight to get into the NCAA.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Tournament, Okay, don't have to worry about that.
- 38:10Speaker 18: It carries weight to not be a two seed and
- 38:14Speaker 18: be a top sixteen regional host, but you don't have
- 38:18Speaker 18: to worry about that, right, And depending on who you play,
- 38:23Speaker 18: it can be the difference between being nine or ten
- 38:28Speaker 18: and seven or eight and being a super regional host.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So there's so you think there's yes, because they're on
- 38:37Speaker 1: the they're right there on the.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Bubble right now, right, they're close.
- 38:41Speaker 18: Yes, So other teams have got other teams aren't counting
- 38:45Speaker 18: on A and M not to win, not not to
- 38:48Speaker 18: win because yeah, because they are behind A and M
- 38:52Speaker 18: right now?
- 38:52Speaker 3: Correct, So you win this? Yeah, they're A and M's
- 38:55Speaker 3: tied for second.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I believe right in the conference with Texas, ex As
- 39:00Speaker 1: closes with I think Missouri is that right?
- 39:02Speaker 3: I get that right?
- 39:03Speaker 18: Okay, Son to do the same thing they did to Texas.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Okay, but my point with A and M is two
- 39:12Speaker 1: two out of three this weekend. What does that do
- 39:15Speaker 1: for for A and M going forward? Are we still
- 39:18Speaker 1: looking at winning a game or two in the in
- 39:21Speaker 1: the turn in the conference tournament? Two out of three
- 39:24Speaker 1: you think solidifies the top EA?
- 39:27Speaker 17: Okay, because your top four in the in the league.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you're and you think the top four we've got,
- 39:36Speaker 1: no matter what we've got U c l A, Georgia Tech.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I'm missing teams here, but uh whom I'm missing? U
- 39:42Speaker 1: c l A, Georgia.
- 39:44Speaker 17: Tech, Coastal Carolina.
- 39:47Speaker 1: There'll be a top No, I'm saying they're competing North Carolina,
- 39:51Speaker 1: North Carolina.
- 39:52Speaker 18: Okay, Coastal Carolina is competing.
- 39:55Speaker 17: It's competing. They take some losses.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 39:59Speaker 1: So, but my point being, do you think four of
- 40:03Speaker 1: the eight will be SEC teams?
- 40:06Speaker 3: Are not? Least at least? Do you think there could
- 40:09Speaker 3: be five?
- 40:10Speaker 17: Yes?
- 40:10Speaker 18: Okay, I think that I think that a team because
- 40:16Speaker 18: right now, A and M, Georgia, Texas and Auburn.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Right, those are the four right now?
- 40:22Speaker 17: Those are the four right now?
- 40:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so.
- 40:26Speaker 18: North Carolina Texas D one baseball has Alabama and A
- 40:31Speaker 18: and M. So they have five SEC teams right now.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Okay, they have them in the top eight.
- 40:36Speaker 18: Yes, okay, So you know, I just think that you
- 40:43Speaker 18: could still be sitting there the exact same way if
- 40:47Speaker 18: you continue, if you see.
- 40:51Speaker 1: So when two this weekend, and you don't have to
- 40:54Speaker 1: worry anything about what happens next week, you think just
- 41:00Speaker 1: saying them, I'm not talking about what other teams may
- 41:02Speaker 1: or may not do.
- 41:02Speaker 3: But if A and M wins two, if A M
- 41:05Speaker 3: wins two, yes you think you don't.
- 41:08Speaker 17: You don't have eighteen and eleven.
- 41:09Speaker 18: You're not falling behind Auburn, who you lost a series two, right,
- 41:16Speaker 18: Mississippi State would be sixteen and fourteen?
- 41:19Speaker 11: Right?
- 41:20Speaker 17: Okay, yep, you're not about.
- 41:22Speaker 18: Arkansas is not going to pass you. Ole miss is
- 41:24Speaker 18: not going to pass you. Oklahoma, who you took losses to,
- 41:29Speaker 18: is not going to pass you. Okay, So you know
- 41:32Speaker 18: you put yourself in a position where you're Georgia, A
- 41:36Speaker 18: and M, Texas, Alabama and Auburn does the fine if
- 41:40Speaker 18: and if if you win two out of three and
- 41:44Speaker 18: they all win two out of three, then then maybe
- 41:47Speaker 18: the conference tournament doesn't matter.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well point being first of all, we know I
- 41:55Speaker 1: hate the conference tournament, so but it doesn't matter they're
- 41:57Speaker 1: having it. You don't want to go in there thinking
- 42:00Speaker 1: you have to win. You know, a couple of games.
- 42:03Speaker 1: They need to rest, right, I mean, they they could
- 42:07Speaker 1: use the rest and get healthy and get ready to
- 42:11Speaker 1: host whoever they're going to host the following week.
- 42:15Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's that's the scenario.
- 42:17Speaker 1: You want to be able to paint as going, Hey, guys,
- 42:21Speaker 1: I you know, throwing throw an opener in game one.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I don't care, I get it.
- 42:26Speaker 1: You know you the coaches are always going to say, look,
- 42:28Speaker 1: if they're keeping score. You know, you always have coaches
- 42:31Speaker 1: that if they're keeping scoring, I want to win. But
- 42:33Speaker 1: these these guys are smarter than that. They understand, especially
- 42:36Speaker 1: in baseball, especially in baseball. They know, you know, they
- 42:41Speaker 1: their arms need rest, their bodies need rest. It has
- 42:45Speaker 1: been a long freaking season in a battle every weekend. Uh,
- 42:50Speaker 1: let's get some rest. Let's come home and get ready
- 42:54Speaker 1: to play.
- 42:54Speaker 3: What's important.
- 42:56Speaker 18: But I think that Mississippi State A and m almost
- 43:00Speaker 18: Alabama and Georgia Auburn. Still you don't you don't want
- 43:06Speaker 18: to be an O for weekend?
- 43:08Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, this weekend. You're talking about this week?
- 43:10Speaker 19: Yeah?
- 43:11Speaker 3: Yeah, of course absolutely not.
- 43:13Speaker 11: I mean I think that.
- 43:16Speaker 18: I think that the conference tournament now and being one
- 43:19Speaker 18: and done is probably better for all those coaches that
- 43:22Speaker 18: are like.
- 43:23Speaker 1: It's not double elimination, not double eliminade. Right, at least
- 43:26Speaker 1: they did that.
- 43:27Speaker 17: So, hey, I'm.
- 43:28Speaker 18: Gonna run my guys out there. I've got my number two.
- 43:33Speaker 18: If I've got a double by and I'm playing an
- 43:37Speaker 18: opponent that's throwing their third starter on two days less
- 43:43Speaker 18: rest and I've got arrested one, well I'm I'm thinking
- 43:47Speaker 18: I'm gonna win that game if you've got a double by,
- 43:51Speaker 18: because somebody is going to have somebody win a couple
- 43:53Speaker 18: of games in upset. If you're one of those double
- 43:55Speaker 18: by teams that sees that, you're like, hey, they're still
- 43:58Speaker 18: throwing their three or four at me and I'm my one.
- 44:01Speaker 18: I'm gonna hold my number two. I'm thinking I'm playing
- 44:03Speaker 18: the next day.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and after that, I don't really care Okay, we
- 44:07Speaker 1: need a break, We'll come back. The Astros Report is

- 48:14Speaker 1: Annie Zeleski has written a book called Stevie Nicks in
- 48:17Speaker 1: fifty songs. Most of those songs are songs she wrote.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Others are one she is associated with.
- 48:25Speaker 17: What Mike Cambell and Tom Patty that.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Others well, they talked certainly about the Tom Petty song.
- 48:32Speaker 3: She only had.
- 48:33Speaker 1: I think that number the number three that Tom Petty
- 48:37Speaker 1: duet went to number three on the Billboard one hundred.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I believe that was her highest song charted song as
- 48:45Speaker 1: a solo artist.
- 48:46Speaker 3: I think that's right.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I'm in the process of reading this book by Annie Zeleski.
- 48:52Speaker 3: We will have her on Monday.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Next Tuesday, Texas music legend Clint Black will be with
- 49:00Speaker 1: me next Tuesday on the program. Scott clind Dinnon is
- 49:04Speaker 1: here we were? He asked me if I was obligated
- 49:08Speaker 1: to play the Astros report. And the Astro report right
- 49:12Speaker 1: now is glorious. They're sixteen and twenty seven, but they're
- 49:18Speaker 1: being in a division where sixteen and twenty seven is
- 49:22Speaker 1: certainly not out of this race. The Mariners, Wow, I
- 49:29Speaker 1: thought the Mariners owned the Rangers. Do you realize they've
- 49:32Speaker 1: won nine straight against the Astros?
- 49:36Speaker 11: Wow?
- 49:37Speaker 3: Chip, not seriously, I mean they own the Rangers.
- 49:41Speaker 1: I get that Oakland owns the Rangers for goodness sake,
- 49:45Speaker 1: but the Astros have lost.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Nine in a row.
- 49:49Speaker 17: Last night, it's crazy talk in the bottom of the
- 49:52Speaker 17: eighth inning. I'm still watching that game.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Bless you.
- 49:58Speaker 17: There are.
- 49:59Speaker 1: They cut my case yesterday right after I got t mobile,
- 50:02Speaker 1: they got cut, so I was without for nine hours.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I missed a hockey game last night, but I got
- 50:07Speaker 1: on in time to see the Rangers win and almost
- 50:09Speaker 1: blow a seven to one lead.
- 50:11Speaker 17: Eight people in the club eight behind home plate.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Okay, in that whole section there was eight.
- 50:19Speaker 17: There were eight.
- 50:19Speaker 3: Hey those are fans though.
- 50:21Speaker 18: Well, right, I don't think those were the eight that
- 50:24Speaker 18: started the game on the fucking road.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Okay, but by that time.
- 50:30Speaker 17: That was still there.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Yeah, he was disinterested.
- 50:33Speaker 17: Go ahead, I love that You've got a ticket to
- 50:35Speaker 17: this section. You want to be on the front road.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you a story that still makes
- 50:40Speaker 1: me mad. When the Dallas Mavericks first came to Dallas, okay,
- 50:45Speaker 1: reunion Reunion Arena, they weren't very good. I mean, I'm
- 50:50Speaker 1: talking first year, right, they're not coaching.
- 50:52Speaker 17: It wasn't Doune Mow then, was it?
- 50:53Speaker 3: Oh no no, no, no no no no, no no no.
- 50:56Speaker 3: And it wasn't a.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Shoot I'll think about it it okay, But they first
- 51:01Speaker 1: came to town, they weren't good.
- 51:03Speaker 3: They were an expansion team. Okay.
- 51:05Speaker 1: There weren't a lot of people in the stands. It
- 51:07Speaker 1: was like a middle week game. I don't know, we're
- 51:10Speaker 1: in the upper deck. We paid cheap seats.
- 51:13Speaker 3: We were going to move.
- 51:17Speaker 1: We were kind of in the corner. We were going
- 51:18Speaker 1: to move like over toward mid court. And I'm telling
- 51:23Speaker 1: you if there were three hundred people in that whole
- 51:28Speaker 1: area of the upper deck and the escer's going, I'm sorry, sir,
- 51:31Speaker 1: you can't move, and I'm going and this is I
- 51:35Speaker 1: think second half.
- 51:36Speaker 3: I don't even think it's first half.
- 51:37Speaker 1: So my friend and I I'm sorry, sir, you can't
- 51:41Speaker 1: get in this section.
- 51:42Speaker 3: I'm going. You have got to be.
- 51:45Speaker 1: This is what happens when you give people that don't
- 51:48Speaker 1: have any authority, just a smidgeon of authority, and.
- 51:54Speaker 3: These are the results.
- 51:56Speaker 1: It's like if I'm an usher, if I'm the owner,
- 51:59Speaker 1: if I'm no, uh what norms car Carter, if I'm
- 52:02Speaker 1: Donald Carter, I'm telling the staff, look, if these people
- 52:07Speaker 1: want to come and sit on the front row, let
- 52:09Speaker 1: them come sit on the front row, right because you're
- 52:12Speaker 1: gonna make fans. You're gonna that's the idea. You need
- 52:15Speaker 1: to create fans. You don't want to make.
- 52:17Speaker 3: The ten fans that you have angry. You just don't.
- 52:23Speaker 3: But okay, I'm over it.
- 52:25Speaker 11: Dick Manna thank.
- 52:26Speaker 1: You first became yeah two times. But he was Dick
- 52:31Speaker 1: Monica coach.
- 52:32Speaker 17: He just didn't coach.
- 52:33Speaker 1: He didn't have any he didn't have any players. Bless
- 52:35Speaker 1: his heart. But they got better pretty quickly, right, norm
- 52:39Speaker 1: Sanzu was the GM. They they Mark mcg Mark McGuire,
- 52:44Speaker 1: They got play. He could play a little bit. He
- 52:46Speaker 1: could play a little bit. That would that would have
- 52:48Speaker 1: been uh, let me let me see when that was,
- 52:55Speaker 1: because I'm thinking I'm thinking it was about nineteen teen
- 53:00Speaker 1: eighty ish, eighty two, eighty.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Three, nineteen eighty Okay, not bad for an old guy.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 53:09Speaker 1: You're trying to stall. I want to go back to
- 53:11Speaker 1: the Astros and Razors people.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Okay, there were eight people in the club seat.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Look at the eighth inning of attend to at the
- 53:19Speaker 1: time eight to two game.
- 53:21Speaker 17: Which was no, this was the bottom of the eighth.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, but they hadn't scored the two at the
- 53:26Speaker 1: top of the ninth yet.
- 53:27Speaker 17: True, but do you know how many people were still watching?
- 53:30Speaker 3: How many?
- 53:31Speaker 17: Probably eight? And one of them.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Hey, I'm impressed. I am, I'm very impressed. I didn't
- 53:39Speaker 1: get to see the Ranger game until I was listening.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I was listening to the Ranger game on the radio.
- 53:45Speaker 17: Okay.
- 53:46Speaker 1: It was actually a wonderful evening without television. It's amazing
- 53:49Speaker 1: what you can do. I started a book. I didn't
- 53:51Speaker 1: think I was going to be interested in that they
- 53:54Speaker 1: sent me, but I am so I'm probably going to
- 53:56Speaker 1: get the author on She is a sports psychologist. It
- 54:01Speaker 1: started out in golf and is still a sports psychologist
- 54:04Speaker 1: to a number of golfers, some of whom she will
- 54:07Speaker 1: name because they mentioned her, and a lot of whom
- 54:10Speaker 1: she doesn't name.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Right, it makes you think of tin Cup and tin Cup, right,
- 54:16Speaker 3: you know, yes.
- 54:17Speaker 17: Do you do couples therapies so you can bring your
- 54:19Speaker 17: caddy if you need to?
- 54:20Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. She talked about that too in the book.
- 54:24Speaker 1: So far anyway, Oh, you're playing the Diamondbacks and nearly
- 54:27Speaker 1: gave it away. Well again, they lost one to nothing
- 54:32Speaker 1: to Arizona at home the night before after beating the
- 54:35Speaker 1: Cubs two in a row and getting people like me
- 54:38Speaker 1: kind of excited, going, hey, they just beat the hottest
- 54:41Speaker 1: em in baseball twice and they pitched the ball really well.
- 54:45Speaker 1: And it was a bullpen game on Monday night. Right,
- 54:48Speaker 1: it's a bullpen game. They give up one run, a
- 54:52Speaker 1: bullpen game, they give up one rud.
- 54:54Speaker 17: Oh, they got to win that game.
- 54:56Speaker 1: You think you think they need to win a game
- 54:58Speaker 1: against the Arizona di Backs with a bullpen game when
- 55:01Speaker 1: you gave up one run.
- 55:03Speaker 3: But they can't.
- 55:04Speaker 1: They cannot cory Seekers under the Mendoza line. He's now
- 55:09Speaker 1: a buck eighty nine. Okay, Corey Seeker is a buck
- 55:13Speaker 1: eighty nine under the Mendoza line. Can you imagine what
- 55:16Speaker 1: their record would be if he was just hitting normal?
- 55:19Speaker 1: I mean, they'd have two more wins, at least.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Two more wins. At least they'd be about five hundred
- 55:26Speaker 3: at least.
- 55:27Speaker 17: Maybe.
- 55:28Speaker 1: No, no, I don't think there's any maybe about it. Okay,
- 55:31Speaker 1: But anyway, so last night, seven to one, I turned
- 55:33Speaker 1: the game on and promptly they bring in a guy
- 55:37Speaker 1: who hasn't given up a run all year, Callier. This
- 55:39Speaker 1: guy has nasty stuff and they just got it for nothing, right,
- 55:43Speaker 1: and he is like eleven appearances, no runs, two walks,
- 55:48Speaker 1: a million strikeouts. He proceeds to walk, the base is loaded.
- 55:52Speaker 1: They have to take him out of the game and
- 55:53Speaker 1: bring in their closer. In what was a seven to
- 55:56Speaker 1: one game. By the time he comes out at seven
- 55:58Speaker 1: to three, it ends up being seven to one four
- 56:00Speaker 1: and they hold on. All right, we got to take
- 56:02Speaker 1: a break. That's life as a Ranger fan. So don't
- 56:05Speaker 1: don't blind to me about being an astro fan either.
