- 1:05Speaker 1: This portion of the program brought to you by Radiant Dentistry.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Coming up, our writers' roundtable in the second hour of
- 1:14Speaker 1: the program. We're going to hear from Mike Elko, Marcel Reed.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Skip Schumacher of the Rangers
- 1:24Speaker 1: before this hour is done. The Aggie football team now
- 1:30Speaker 1: 1-0 after beating Missouri State. 50 to nothing in front
- 1:34Speaker 1: of over 107,000 fans. On Saturday evening, they are on
- 1:42Speaker 1: to Arizona State for an 11 a.m. game on this
- 1:49Speaker 1: coming Saturday. They will step up a little bit in
- 1:53Speaker 1: terms of competition. The final Labor Day weekend game is
- 2:00Speaker 1: tonight with them SMU Mustangs at Florida State. That will
- 2:07Speaker 1: be a 6.30 game on ESPN.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Let's see.
- 2:14Speaker 1: What else do we have going on? The SEC went
- 2:18Speaker 1: 16-0 in week one. First time they swept opening weekend
- 2:22Speaker 1: since 1997. That's hard to believe, given most of those years,
- 2:30Speaker 1: they're mostly playing directional schools. Not always, but 16-0.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Then I give you Michigan.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Michigan beat Western Michigan 13-12 in a controversial clock management situation.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Their quarterback, Bryce Underwood, wasn't very good. 12 for 22
- 2:58Speaker 1: with an interception. The touchdown came on the Hail Mary
- 3:04Speaker 1: after the time had expired. And Kyle Whittingham didn't really
- 3:09Speaker 1: give him a ringing endorsement. Said, Whittingham today, he's our
- 3:13Speaker 1: quarterback right now. It's not something that's infinite. We need
- 3:19Speaker 1: to see improvement with a bunch of stuff. It's not
- 3:21Speaker 1: just Bryce's job that's set in context. Crete nobody's is.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Let's see what else. These are the list of games.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We'll hold off on those for this coming weekend. We'll
- 3:39Speaker 1: talk about some of those with our Friday's fearless contest
- 3:42Speaker 1: coming up. Steve Sarkeesian said today, offensive lineman, Cole Hudson,
- 3:47Speaker 1: who had been granted an extra year has been ruled
- 3:51Speaker 1: ineligible by the NCAA.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Okay.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Sark says it's not because of the previous ruling, but
- 3:58Speaker 1: because of something else. He said they're working to clear
- 4:02Speaker 1: that up so Hudson could become eligible to play this year.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Indiana running back Kobe Martin out until midseason after leaving
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Hoosiers win against North Texas with an ankle injury.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Martin was expected to be part of the Running back rotation.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Kurt Cignetti says he'll be out a little bit. We
- 4:30Speaker 1: expect him back midseason. I already said that. The Texas
- 4:36Speaker 1: Rangers are 71-73. Still two games behind the Astros.
- 4:39Speaker 5: In the AL West.
- 4:45Speaker 1: They came from behind to beat Tampa 8-6 yesterday. Jake
- 4:50Speaker 1: Berger hit two dingers. Corey Seager had a home run.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So they won the first and the last game of
- 4:58Speaker 1: the four-game series against Tampa. The two middle games were ugly.
- 5:03Speaker 1: The Rangers will be in Seattle starting tomorrow night. The
- 5:10Speaker 1: Astros will be in Philadelphia tomorrow. In the wildcard standings,
- 5:17Speaker 1: the Rangers trail the Blue Jays by one game and
- 5:23Speaker 1: the Indians by two games in the wildcard spot.
- 5:28Speaker 5: The Astros lost 2-3 to the Diamondbacks, 3-2 yesterday.
- 5:31Speaker 7: And.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't know how the West is going to be
- 5:40Speaker 1: won yet. It's still a little bit ugly. The Aggie
- 5:45Speaker 1: baseball team announced that they're going to play a pair
- 5:51Speaker 1: of fall exhibition scrimmages with Rice October 2nd at 6 p.m.,
- 6:00Speaker 1: And that's a Friday evening. And McNeese two weeks later
- 6:04Speaker 1: at 7 p.m. Both those games will be free, will
- 6:09Speaker 1: be prior to home football games. They're playing the U.S.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Open in New York right now. Rybalenka won the first
- 6:23Speaker 1: set against Osaka.
- 6:24Speaker 5: It's 3-3 in the second set. Iga Swiatek is out.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Jing Ken Wen of China took care of her 7-5-6-3
- 6:36Speaker 1: earlier today. Coco Gauff plays at 6 o'clock. Alexander Zverev
- 6:45Speaker 1: will play this evening against Luciana Darderi.
- 6:50Speaker 5: We will work on getting.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Our professional tennis correspondent Scott the Wildman Tribely on the
- 7:01Speaker 1: show this week at some point. We have a couple
- 7:05Speaker 1: of short shows on Tuesday and Wednesday because of Astros baseball.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We'll be out at 540 both tomorrow and on Wednesday
- 7:19Speaker 1: for starting times. And, man, I am sad to report
- 7:26Speaker 1: to you that Our NFL draft expert Mike Dettelier has
- 7:34Speaker 1: passed away just days after learning that he had cancer.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Dettelier said at the time, it was a shocker. I'm
- 7:46Speaker 1: good with this. I've made my peace with it. I've
- 7:49Speaker 1: had a good life, a blessed life, and intend to
- 7:52Speaker 1: savor every last morsel with my family. That diagnosis came early.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Just last week, when he announced he had had severe
- 8:05Speaker 1: stomach pains, and after CAT scans, it was diagnosed with
- 8:10Speaker 1: metastatic pancreatic cancer. Dettelier's 66th birthday would have been tomorrow.
- 8:22Speaker 5: In July of 2021, he became a co-host on.
- 8:31Speaker 1: after being a guest analyst feature for a number of years,
- 8:36Speaker 1: he was a guest analyst for us, uh, on the
- 8:42Speaker 1: draft for.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Well over 25 years. And, uh, Mike was, was a
- 8:51Speaker 5: great guy and, uh, he will be.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Missed, uh, our prayers to his family, um, But honestly,
- 9:02Speaker 1: with metastatic pancreatic cancer, the fact that it happened so
- 9:08Speaker 1: quickly is really a blessing. But we'll certainly miss Mike Dettelier.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And not fun having to report news like that. Coming up,
- 9:21Speaker 1: we're going to hear from Mike Elko. on game one.
- 9:27Speaker 1: We are going to hear from the writers on game one.
- 9:32Speaker 1: It was quite the college football weekend. We'll spend some
- 9:38Speaker 1: time talking about that. And we'll also look ahead to
- 9:50Speaker 1: Week two of Friday's Fearless. We will talk about that
- 9:55Speaker 1: as well. I'm already behind in my own contest.
- 9:59Speaker 5: After one week.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I took a couple of chances that in retrospect look
- 10:05Speaker 1: really stupid right now.
- 10:09Speaker 5: But, you know, that's what I do. All right. We'll
- 10:14Speaker 5: take a break. We'll come back after this for Chad
- 10:17Speaker 5: Jones Law.
- 10:19Speaker 9: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 10:22Speaker 9: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 10:24Speaker 9: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 10:26Speaker 9: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left
- 10:29Speaker 9: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 10:31Speaker 9: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've

- 11:59Speaker 10: Drink up to the cowboy's dead.
- 12:03Speaker 15: Or a dying.
- 12:05Speaker 1: That's Jerry Jeff and Willie Nelson with a Stephen Frumholdt song,
- 12:09Speaker 1: The Man in the Big Hat. Thanks for being with
- 12:13Speaker 1: us on this Labor Day. I hope most of you
- 12:16Speaker 1: are kicking back. enjoying a cool beverage of choice. While listening,
- 12:23Speaker 1: we will have the writers in in the second hour.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Last night's two games were very interesting, both off to
- 12:35Speaker 1: slow starts. Notre Dame got off to a slow start
- 12:39Speaker 1: before finally doing what they were supposed to do against Wisconsin,
- 12:44Speaker 1: who looks to be a little bit improved. Louisville Ole Miss,
- 12:51Speaker 1: highly entertaining. The first half was really ugly. You were wondering, wow,
- 13:04Speaker 1: are the Rebs missing Lane Kiffin that badly? And I'm
- 13:08Speaker 1: not saying they're not just because they pulled off the
- 13:11Speaker 1: last second win. By the way, that place kicker, Carnero,
- 13:15Speaker 1: he's pretty good. Trinidad Chambliss did not play well in
- 13:20Speaker 1: the first half.
- 13:21Speaker 5: He played very.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Well in the second half. And they will have a shot.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Ole Miss' defense is going to have to be much better.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Much better.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I did not pick Ole Miss in my top three
- 13:39Speaker 1: because I don't know if Pete Golding is a head
- 13:42Speaker 1: coach or not.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I know he's been an assistant. I know he took
- 13:47Speaker 5: over from Lane.
- 13:48Speaker 1: At the end of last year, I know he won
- 13:51Speaker 1: a couple of games in the playoffs. That's different from
- 13:56Speaker 1: going through an entire season, preparing, getting your team ready
- 14:01Speaker 1: for all those games.
- 14:08Speaker 5: So, jury's still.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Out as far as I'm concerned on Ole Miss. We
- 14:21Speaker 1: know Chambliss is good. He went from Trinidad to Winadad
- 14:29Speaker 1: in the second half. You were kind of wondering, but man,
- 14:34Speaker 1: he threw some beautiful passes, did what he had to do,
- 14:38Speaker 1: got the team in field goal position, won the game.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I think Louisville's pretty good. I think their quarterback's pretty good.
- 14:45Speaker 1: It took him a little while to settle in. He
- 14:48Speaker 1: made some nice plays, but My team of the weekend
- 14:55Speaker 1: and my Heisman candidate of the weekend is the Miami
- 15:02Speaker 1: Hurricanes and Malachi Tony. I'm telling you, they look good.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And Malachi Tony is a beast. And it will change
- 15:20Speaker 1: every week. But for now, he's probably my leading candidate.
- 15:29Speaker 1: My leading Heisman candidate. Based on one game.
- 15:33Speaker 5: I know. I get it.
- 15:36Speaker 1: But he jumped way, way up there.
- 15:39Speaker 16: C.J.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Carr wasn't great last night. Some of the other candidates.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Dante Moore threw the ball well. Oregon had its hands
- 15:53Speaker 1: full with Boise. And Boise has traditionally played well against Oregon.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I think Boise's pretty good. Dante Moore didn't do anything
- 16:08Speaker 1: to wreck his chances.
- 16:11Speaker 5: He had great numbers. It was just a struggle from
- 16:15Speaker 5: start to finish. Arch was good.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I don't think he did anything to hurt his chances.
- 16:25Speaker 1: He will be in the spotlight Saturday, right? Because they're
- 16:29Speaker 1: playing Ohio State.
- 16:32Speaker 5: And it's.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Probably not fair for any candidate that one game would ruin, right,
- 16:42Speaker 1: your chances. But Arch was the presumptive winner of the
- 16:50Speaker 1: Heisman game. before they played Ohio State last year, was
- 16:55Speaker 1: out of the running after they played Ohio State. Maybe
- 17:00Speaker 1: it'll be different this year, even if he doesn't win,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but I doubt it.
- 17:07Speaker 5: So, hey, life's not fair. You want to win the Heisman?
- 17:13Speaker 5: Earn it, right? Earn it on the field.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And he will have a chance to keep his name
- 17:19Speaker 1: alive in that group if they can beat Ohio State Saturday.
- 17:25Speaker 1: But right now, man, did Malachi Toney put on a
- 17:30Speaker 1: show Friday night.
- 17:33Speaker 5: I mean a show. And look, I get competition. I
- 17:41Speaker 5: understand it. But that was fun to watch.
- 17:46Speaker 17: Okay.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Um, Just about two hours ago, we carried Mike Elko
- 17:52Speaker 1: right here on the zone. And I'm going to play
- 17:56Speaker 1: a little bit of what he had to say on
- 18:00Speaker 1: today's news conference.
- 18:02Speaker 17: First, just kind of recapping the weekend. Start with our
- 18:06Speaker 17: players at the game. I thought on scout team, on defense,
- 18:10Speaker 17: it was Tylan Wilson, safety. I thought he did a really,
- 18:12Speaker 17: really good job last week running around and making a
- 18:14Speaker 17: bunch of plays. Offensively, it was Avery Morcho at right tackle.
- 18:19Speaker 17: Did a really good job on the O-line. And then
- 18:21Speaker 17: Luke Braden was our special team scout team player of
- 18:23Speaker 17: the week. In the game, our offensive lineman of the
- 18:26Speaker 17: game was Tyree Adams. I thought he graded out really,
- 18:29Speaker 17: really well, both in the pass game and in the
- 18:32Speaker 17: run game. I thought he played really, really physical. Had
- 18:35Speaker 17: the one holding penalty, which I thought was an aggressive
- 18:38Speaker 17: penalty at least. Obviously, we don't want those, but at
- 18:40Speaker 17: least it was in my opinion, an aggressive penalty. Defensive
- 18:44Speaker 17: alignment of the week was T.J. Searcy, a guy who
- 18:47Speaker 17: was just really stout and firm in the run game
- 18:50Speaker 17: and some of the things they were trying to do
- 18:52Speaker 17: early on. Our players of the week on offense, it
- 18:56Speaker 17: was Marcel Reed, 21 for 30, 253 all-purpose yards, two touchdowns,
- 19:01Speaker 17: no turnovers. Thought it was a really, really good start
- 19:03Speaker 17: for him for the season. Defensively, it was Ryan Henderson,
- 19:08Speaker 17: one of the most productive games from a snap count standpoint.
- 19:11Speaker 17: I think he played four total snaps, had a fourth
- 19:14Speaker 17: down stop and a sack fumble. So that's really impressive.
- 19:17Speaker 17: We obviously planned on playing him more, but. We didn't
- 19:20Speaker 17: have very many defensive snaps in the game. And then
- 19:23Speaker 17: on special teams, it was Mario Craver. He did a really,
- 19:25Speaker 17: really nice job. Wound up only averaging nine yards a return,
- 19:29Speaker 17: but one of those because he grabbed one, saved us,
- 19:31Speaker 17: and stepped out of bounds. So he really had two
- 19:33Speaker 17: returns for about 29 yards, which was really good, creating
- 19:36Speaker 17: some hidden field position for us. And so, yeah, I
- 19:39Speaker 17: thought the game went the way we talked about it going.
- 19:42Speaker 17: I thought defensively we were solid throughout the game. I
- 19:45Speaker 17: don't think there was much on tape that we looked
- 19:47Speaker 17: at and felt like they had and didn't execute. I
- 19:51Speaker 17: think we were able to play the game the way
- 19:52Speaker 17: we wanted to. Obviously there will be greater challenges down
- 19:55Speaker 17: the road. for us offensively you know certainly have to
- 19:59Speaker 17: figure out how to improve the lull that we hit
- 20:01Speaker 17: through the you know beginning of the middle middle of
- 20:03Speaker 17: the first quarter into the second quarter you know but
- 20:06Speaker 17: again I think a lot of that was self-inflicted and
- 20:08Speaker 17: so it's going back to the drawing board and kind
- 20:10Speaker 17: of fixing it and I thought it was a really
- 20:11Speaker 17: good start for us on special teams I think the
- 20:14Speaker 17: way we kicked the way we punted and then just
- 20:16Speaker 17: overall how we played from an effort standpoint on special
- 20:19Speaker 17: teams units I was really really proud and so Now we.
- 20:22Speaker 16: Turn our attention.
- 20:23Speaker 17: I told our guys this. Now the season really gets
- 20:26Speaker 17: going and we're going to welcome in a really, really
- 20:28Speaker 17: talented Arizona State team this weekend. Head coach Kenny Dillingham
- 20:32Speaker 17: has been there. This is going into year four for him,
- 20:35Speaker 17: a guy that I have a ton of respect for.
- 20:37Speaker 17: I have certainly gone against him as an offensive coordinator
- 20:40Speaker 17: and studied him as an offensive coordinator even though he's
- 20:43Speaker 17: Got a really talented offensive coordinator with him in Marcus Arroyo.
- 20:46Speaker 17: But just a really, really good football coach and a really,
- 20:49Speaker 17: really good football team. They've had a ton of success.
- 20:51Speaker 17: They were a quarterfinalist in the playoffs two years ago.
- 20:53Speaker 17: They've had a lot of guys get drafted out of
- 20:56Speaker 17: that program. And so this is going to be a really,
- 20:58Speaker 17: really big test and a really, really big challenge for us.
- 21:01Speaker 17: And we're looking forward to it.
- 21:02Speaker 18: And then the last.
- 21:03Speaker 17: Thing I just want to throw out there is for
- 21:05Speaker 17: all of the Aggies coming into town this weekend. It's
- 21:08Speaker 17: an early kick for us. I'm sure most everyone will
- 21:10Speaker 17: be in town Friday. And so if you are shooting
- 21:13Speaker 17: over to read and kind of giving some support to
- 21:15Speaker 17: Jamie and the women's volleyball team would be really cool.
- 21:17Speaker 17: They got a big one against Wisconsin on Friday night.
- 21:19Speaker 16: And so it'd be.
- 21:21Speaker 17: Nice to see everybody get out there and support them
- 21:23Speaker 17: as well. And so from there, we'll open it up
- 21:25Speaker 17: to questions.
- 21:26Speaker 19: All right, coach, we'll go to the right third row, David.
- 21:29Speaker 20: Coach, after reviewing the film, did something maybe look better
- 21:32Speaker 20: after watching it than maybe what you initially thought on Saturday? Okay.
- 21:37Speaker 5: You know, it's hard now because of the iPad.
- 21:39Speaker 17: You know, there was times where, you know, you were
- 21:42Speaker 17: doing so much of it off of feel and off
- 21:44Speaker 17: of the video board. Now you actually have the iPad.
- 21:46Speaker 17: So for the most part, you've got a pretty good
- 21:49Speaker 17: feel for what it looks like as you're going through it.
- 21:52Speaker 17: I think maybe just, you know, to the naked eye,
- 21:56Speaker 17: I thought the way we grew into the game on offense,
- 22:02Speaker 17: especially on the offensive line, I think is something that
- 22:05Speaker 17: It was really good to see. I think there were
- 22:07Speaker 17: some guys out there really anxious in the beginning. Certainly
- 22:11Speaker 17: the two young guards, Blake and Tyler Thomas. It was
- 22:15Speaker 17: their first time going out there and playing meaningful snaps
- 22:18Speaker 17: in a meaningful game. Lamont Rogers, throw him into that
- 22:21Speaker 17: category as well. When they got into their second series,
- 22:26Speaker 17: third series, fourth series, you could really see them slowing
- 22:30Speaker 17: down and playing the game the way we've seen them
- 22:32Speaker 17: play throughout fall camp, and so I thought that was
- 22:34Speaker 17: really encouraging as we moved through it.
- 22:36Speaker 18: Coach, we'll stay to the right.
- 22:37Speaker 16: Olin?
- 22:39Speaker 14: Mike, I was going to ask you for your evaluation
- 22:41Speaker 14: of the offensive line overall.
- 22:43Speaker 16: Do you have anything to add to what you just said?
- 22:45Speaker 17: Yeah, you and David should have got together. You guys
- 22:47Speaker 17: are in the same building. No, again, listen, I thought
- 22:50Speaker 17: there was a lot of good, certainly some things that
- 22:53Speaker 17: we had to clean up. I think it was a
- 22:57Speaker 17: little bit of a storm in that it was a
- 22:59Speaker 17: lot of things that we hadn't practiced with a lot
- 23:01Speaker 17: of guys out there playing together. You had no idea
- 23:04Speaker 17: what to predict the scheme was going to look like.
- 23:07Speaker 17: We certainly didn't play to the level or standard we
- 23:09Speaker 17: need to early in the game. I think everybody's aware
- 23:12Speaker 17: of that. But again, I think it was good to
- 23:14Speaker 17: see us adjust, settle in, and start to make better
- 23:19Speaker 17: plays as we move forward from an O-line standpoint. Again,
- 23:22Speaker 17: there's big challenges coming up, and we're going to have
- 23:24Speaker 17: to continue to get better. That group is going to
- 23:27Speaker 17: have to continue to work really hard to get better
- 23:29Speaker 17: every time they go out there.
- 23:30Speaker 18: We'll go to the front row, right, Carter?
- 23:33Speaker 21: Mike, where's your kind of comfort level with your two
- 23:37Speaker 21: true freshman running backs, and where are they kind of
- 23:39Speaker 21: at in critical situations, and where are they kind of
- 23:42Speaker 21: at with pass blocking and sort of the nuances of
- 23:45Speaker 21: the game where critical situations you might need them to deliver?
- 23:49Speaker 17: Yeah, I think we got a lot of confidence in them.
- 23:51Speaker 17: I think they're both really talented players. We certainly create
- 23:55Speaker 17: standards for that room in terms of how to play
- 23:58Speaker 17: the game, how to get the extra yards, how to
- 24:01Speaker 17: run behind your pads, how to protect the football, and
- 24:03Speaker 17: how to pass protect. That's all part of fundamentals of
- 24:06Speaker 17: being a running back at Texas A & M. And
- 24:08Speaker 17: so you don't get on the field if you can't
- 24:11Speaker 17: do those things. And so they work really hard at it,
- 24:14Speaker 17: and we're really excited about them.
- 24:16Speaker 21: How pleased were you with the tackling on Saturday? And
- 24:18Speaker 21: then how good do you think you guys can be
- 24:20Speaker 21: in that regard this season?
- 24:21Speaker 17: Yeah, again, I think those– Those conclusions are tough because, again,
- 24:28Speaker 17: no disrespect to anybody, but certainly there are bigger challenges
- 24:31Speaker 17: coming down the chute. And so I think this week
- 24:35Speaker 17: will be a really, really good test for us. We're
- 24:38Speaker 17: going to play a really explosive offense run by some
- 24:40Speaker 17: really talented coordinators, and I think this will be a
- 24:44Speaker 17: big challenge for us to see where we're at on a.
- 24:47Speaker 16: Lot of those levels.
- 24:49Speaker 18: We'll go to the left second row, Alex.
- 24:51Speaker 22: Hey Mike, with Friday being the 25th anniversary of 9-11,
- 24:54Speaker 22: I was just curious what your recollections were of that
- 24:56Speaker 22: day as someone who was in proximity to the attacks.
- 24:59Speaker 17: Yeah, I think it still hits really close to home.
- 25:04Speaker 17: As a kid being from up there, who was working
- 25:07Speaker 17: up there, I was actually working at the Merchant Marine
- 25:09Speaker 17: Academy on 9-11, so I was right on the other
- 25:11Speaker 17: side of the water. Actually walked down to the water
- 25:14Speaker 17: and saw the city when the first plane hit, and
- 25:17Speaker 17: so So yeah, a lot of memories, a lot of feelings,
- 25:21Speaker 17: a lot of emotions when that day rolls around for
- 25:23Speaker 17: me and some people that I was close with who
- 25:27Speaker 17: were really affected in that event. And so yeah, it's
- 25:30Speaker 17: a meaningful day for me.
- 25:32Speaker 22: Just wanted to ask you about your time at Kings
- 25:34Speaker 22: Point in general. How did you even end up going there?
- 25:37Speaker 22: What did that year end up doing for your coaching
- 25:39Speaker 22: journey as you got started?
- 25:43Speaker 17: Like a lot of the jobs I got, they were
- 25:46Speaker 17: looking for somebody late and scrambling and somehow somebody gave
- 25:50Speaker 17: them my name and so they didn't have a lot
- 25:51Speaker 17: of options and so they picked me. So I think
- 25:54Speaker 17: it was my third year of coaching. I was the
- 25:56Speaker 17: assistant DB coach at Penn. Our offensive coordinator at the time,
- 26:00Speaker 17: a guy named Andy Cohen who recently passed away had
- 26:03Speaker 17: worked there, knew the head coach really well and they
- 26:06Speaker 17: were just looking for somebody to come run the defense
- 26:08Speaker 17: and so He's got no experience, but he's a really
- 26:12Speaker 17: bright young coach if you want to give him a try.
- 26:13Speaker 17: And so they brought me out and they hired me. And, yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 17: I think it impacted me a lot because I learned
- 26:20Speaker 17: a lot of things that I needed to get better
- 26:22Speaker 17: at as a football coach as I was trying to
- 26:24Speaker 17: lead a group at 24 years old and had no
- 26:26Speaker 17: idea what.
- 26:26Speaker 23: I was doing.
- 26:27Speaker 18: We'll stay to the left, third row, Matthew.
- 26:30Speaker 19: Howdy, Coach.
- 26:31Speaker 22: Both Texas A & M and Arizona State have made
- 26:33Speaker 22: the college football playoff recently. How much do you like
- 26:36Speaker 22: having a non-conference opponent like this that can give you
- 26:38Speaker 22: a real measuring stick for where.
- 26:39Speaker 16: The program is?
- 26:42Speaker 17: Which part are you asking? I'd like to win every game,
- 26:45Speaker 17: and so I don't want to play anybody who's any good.
- 26:47Speaker 17: But I think games like this are important. I think
- 26:50Speaker 17: they matter. I think they matter to our fan base.
- 26:55Speaker 17: it's going to be a huge challenge for us. I
- 26:57Speaker 17: think this is a really, really talented team, and I
- 27:01Speaker 17: know a lot of people like to look at logos
- 27:04Speaker 17: and think logos mean things. They really don't. This is
- 27:06Speaker 17: a really talented team that's been producing a lot of
- 27:09Speaker 17: NFL players, has a bunch of them on the field
- 27:11Speaker 17: this weekend, and this will be a really big challenge
- 27:13Speaker 17: for us.
- 27:15Speaker 19: We'll go to the front row left, Tony.
- 27:17Speaker 24: Coach, obviously you spend every day as an evaluation process
- 27:20Speaker 24: from one season until now, but when you see them live,
- 27:23Speaker 24: live bullets flying week one, How much stock do you
- 27:25Speaker 24: put in that, and does that kind of change anything?
- 27:28Speaker 24: Or I guess what did you learn about your squad
- 27:30Speaker 24: from playing in one game?
- 27:31Speaker 17: Yeah, I think it's probably why I was very anxious
- 27:34Speaker 17: in the lead-in to get out there and do it
- 27:36Speaker 17: because as you go through this thing, you realize that
- 27:39Speaker 17: there's always a jump. When you go from kids who
- 27:43Speaker 17: haven't played together in real games, it's always a little
- 27:47Speaker 17: bit different the first time they do it. And so
- 27:50Speaker 17: we needed to figure out where the bar was. We
- 27:52Speaker 17: needed to figure out what– what people were really capable
- 27:55Speaker 17: of doing on the big stage with the big lights.
- 27:57Speaker 17: And then we needed them to get out there and
- 27:59Speaker 17: grow through some of those growing pains that I knew
- 28:02Speaker 17: were going to exist. And so, yeah, I think we
- 28:06Speaker 17: learned a lot about where we are and then what
- 28:09Speaker 17: we need to do to kind of get where we
- 28:11Speaker 17: want to go. We'll stay to the left.
- 28:13Speaker 22: Fourth row, Tyler.
- 28:15Speaker 20: Mike, first I want to ask about Wilkin Forby. I
- 28:17Speaker 20: know he exited the game late. I don't know if
- 28:19Speaker 20: there was any status update on Wilkin.
- 28:22Speaker 17: No, he left when everybody left.
- 28:26Speaker 19: It just seemed like he went to the locker room.
- 28:28Speaker 22: Yeah, he's fine.
- 28:30Speaker 20: I know in the past you've gotten tired of talking
- 28:33Speaker 20: about penalties. Was there anything that concerned you? in that
- 28:37Speaker 20: regard in the first game?
- 28:39Speaker 17: You're always concerned. I do think they were different. I
- 28:44Speaker 17: think last year we had a lot of really lazy
- 28:46Speaker 17: focus penalties. I didn't think that was the case. A
- 28:51Speaker 17: lot of them, in my opinion, were kind of on
- 28:54Speaker 17: the line. I thought Antos was on the line. I
- 28:56Speaker 17: thought Isaiah Hortons was on the line. Certainly felt like
- 29:00Speaker 17: the one they called on Bravian Rogers for blocking too
- 29:02Speaker 17: hard was on the line, you know, and not to
- 29:04Speaker 17: say they were bad calls. They just were not. I
- 29:07Speaker 17: didn't feel like they were egregious, lack of focus type penalties.
- 29:11Speaker 17: And so it felt a little bit different. You know,
- 29:15Speaker 17: obviously we can't continue to go eight for 75, but
- 29:18Speaker 17: it just felt a little bit different than it did
- 29:19Speaker 17: at times last year.
- 29:20Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:21Speaker 1: That's Mike Elko and a very interesting answer to, Alex
- 29:27Speaker 1: Miller's question on 9-11. Somebody came back later, and if
- 29:33Speaker 1: we have time tomorrow or Wednesday, we'll play that the
- 29:36Speaker 1: second half and ask about, hey, how cool will the red, white,
- 29:40Speaker 1: and blue thing be at the game? And he's going,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, that's just a painful reminder.
- 29:50Speaker 5: You know, he.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Basically said it'll look great, but For me, it's still really,
- 30:04Speaker 1: really painful. And, again, I'm not commenting that, hey, you
- 30:09Speaker 1: shouldn't do that or it'll look great. There'll be lots
- 30:12Speaker 1: of pictures taken, you know, with the red, white, and blue.
- 30:18Speaker 1: But you don't want to get lost in.
- 30:21Speaker 5: What it's for, I guess is the best way to
- 30:24Speaker 5: say it, right? You have to know.
- 30:29Speaker 1: What's behind it, I guess. Not just, wow, this looks
- 30:32Speaker 1: really cool. Sevchek Service Center, 2200 Longmire. We'll reopen in

- 33:31Speaker 16: The Rock Prairie exit off of Highway 6 South.
- 33:46Speaker 14: I hear people talking bad about the.
- 33:49Speaker 28: Way we have to live.
- 33:51Speaker 25: Here in this country.
- 33:54Speaker 13: Harping on wars, we fight and griping about the way
- 33:58Speaker 13: things should be.
- 34:15Speaker 1: At the top, even with all the college football going on,
- 34:20Speaker 1: we were flipping back and forth to the Rangers' raise
- 34:25Speaker 1: over the weekend, both Friday and Saturday night. They just
- 34:30Speaker 1: cut your heart out with how they managed to lose
- 34:36Speaker 1: games and the stupidity with which they lose them.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Set it all year. They're very consistent.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Uh, their record reflects who they are at 71 and 73.
- 34:49Speaker 1: There are 18 games left. There's still only two games back.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So they have a shot. They're playing the Mariners who
- 35:01Speaker 1: aren't playing real well, but they're in Seattle, a place
- 35:03Speaker 1: that's just been a house of horrors for them. Pretty
- 35:06Speaker 1: much earlier in the year.
- 35:08Speaker 5: They did. Okay. It's been what?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Six weeks, probably at least. Uh, But it's been a
- 35:15Speaker 1: house of horrors. I just keep saying they have to
- 35:19Speaker 1: go in and win. They have to go in and win.
- 35:21Speaker 1: And then they don't. They win some. They lose some.
- 35:25Speaker 1: They lose some more. They win some more. They get
- 35:28Speaker 1: your hopes up. They crush them. Skip Schumacher is going
- 35:37Speaker 1: to talk about the 8-6 win yesterday. And how they
- 35:44Speaker 1: did it, and the fact that they did it, given
- 35:48Speaker 1: how difficult the loss was on Saturday.
- 35:52Speaker 11: That was just a hell of a team win. I mean,
- 35:55Speaker 11: that was what happened from the start of the game
- 35:59Speaker 11: to fight back against that team, which is one of
- 36:04Speaker 11: the best in the major leagues. With that deficit, it
- 36:10Speaker 11: just shows you what's in that clubhouse. I mean, these
- 36:11Speaker 11: guys are going to fight to the end. I am
- 36:13Speaker 11: confident in that. And you could just, you know, in
- 36:17Speaker 11: the dugout there, I think the biggest hit today was
- 36:21Speaker 11: after them scoring four runs, after Tampa scoring four runs,
- 36:24Speaker 11: Berger getting the home run. It was kind of a
- 36:27Speaker 11: little bit of an answer back. And I know it
- 36:28Speaker 11: was only one run.
- 36:30Speaker 16: But that's what we needed.
- 36:31Speaker 11: We needed something positive in that inning. And then obviously
- 36:35Speaker 11: he had another home run, which is awesome. But that
- 36:37Speaker 11: was the, you always are looking for an answer. And
- 36:40Speaker 11: he provided the answer tonight, today. You know, there's some
- 36:43Speaker 11: new roles for these guys. Like, Ohapi has never just
- 36:45Speaker 11: been a platoon guy getting DH days against left-handed pitching.
- 36:50Speaker 11: He's done exceptionally well in that role.
- 36:52Speaker 16: That's not easy.
- 36:53Speaker 11: What Berger did today was, I mean, he carried the team.
- 36:56Speaker 11: I mean, he got us, he fought back. He got
- 36:59Speaker 11: all of us back into the game. Diaz with a
- 37:01Speaker 11: huge hit up the middle. Foscue, I mean, my gosh. And,
- 37:05Speaker 11: you know, we didn't even talk about Duran because it's just,
- 37:08Speaker 11: you know, he's just going to get two hits and
- 37:09Speaker 11: we didn't talk about it anymore. It was, again, up
- 37:13Speaker 11: and down the lineup. I know, you know, the middle part,
- 37:15Speaker 11: you know, didn't provide a ton. But Nimmo getting the
- 37:21Speaker 11: guy over. And then I know we didn't score the run,
- 37:23Speaker 11: but that's just winning baseball today. There was some stuff
- 37:26Speaker 11: that we need to clean up as far as the overthrows.
- 37:29Speaker 11: from the outfield. But other than that, it was winning
- 37:32Speaker 11: brand of baseball. I mean, I come in thinking we're
- 37:34Speaker 11: going to win every single day. You know, you've been
- 37:36Speaker 11: around me long enough now that that's the hard, just
- 37:40Speaker 11: honest truth. And those guys do as well. I mean,
- 37:44Speaker 11: you don't come back after a tough loss last night.
- 37:47Speaker 11: That was a really tough loss late. And then the
- 37:52Speaker 11: next game is a day game. And you get your
- 37:55Speaker 11: teeth kicked in the first couple innings and If you
- 37:58Speaker 11: don't have belief, that game gets out of hand, and
- 38:00Speaker 11: you're staring at a 10-1 game, and you're trying to
- 38:03Speaker 11: get to Seattle as quick as you can. Instead, that team,
- 38:07Speaker 11: those guys in that clubhouse, believed that they could come
- 38:11Speaker 11: back because there was so much game left. And again,
- 38:15Speaker 11: the answer of Berger early on to like, hey, we
- 38:18Speaker 11: got this, let's effing go, that was the start of it.
- 38:23Speaker 5: All right, that's Skip Schumacher. And he is right. You know,
- 38:28Speaker 5: he is right.
- 38:30Speaker 1: One thing this team has not done is give up.
- 38:35Speaker 1: As bad as they've been. As frustrating as it's been.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I've been a Ranger fan all my life. And they
- 38:45Speaker 1: have been much worse than this in many, many seasons.
- 38:49Speaker 1: And had a much worse record. But this may be
- 38:53Speaker 1: near the top of the list of frustrating seasons to
- 38:57Speaker 1: watch this team. Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, brought to

- 39:40Speaker 18: It doesn't matter.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Arizona, BYU. The Bills and the Texans. Yes, apparently it's

- 40:24Speaker 1: and Chad Jones Law.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Okay. I will look that up.
- 40:32Speaker 1: We will look that up eventually, but I don't know
- 40:35Speaker 1: what that game's called. It's something like the Battle for
- 40:39Speaker 1: the Corn or the Cornhole Series.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Or something like that.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I have a really good friend who actually cares about
- 40:49Speaker 1: that game. I'm not kidding because that's where he's from.
- 40:54Speaker 5: But it's a big game in at least part of
- 40:58Speaker 5: one state. Does it say, Stan, what it is?
- 41:04Speaker 21: As of right now, all I can see is they
- 41:06Speaker 21: call it a Psyhawk game.
- 41:09Speaker 6: Really?
- 41:09Speaker 5: I thought it was something different. That's weak.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Okay.

- 42:32Speaker 23: The Houston Astros couldn't find the tying run as the
- 42:35Speaker 23: Arizona Diamondbacks took the series yesterday, that final score 3-2.
- 42:38Speaker 23: Houston struck first in the opening frame with Jordan Alvarez's
- 42:42Speaker 23: 38th home run of the season for a one-run lead.
- 42:44Speaker 23: Arizona would take the lead right after with a sack
- 42:46Speaker 23: fly in the second followed by a two-run homer by
- 42:48Speaker 23: Nolan Arenado in the third. A pitching duel would ensue
- 42:51Speaker 23: for the next four innings until Lamont Wade Jr. got
- 42:53Speaker 23: the Astros back in the game.
- 42:55Speaker 29: Swing and a bloop in the left field. Racing in Walsh.
- 42:57Speaker 29: That's going to drop in front of him for a
- 42:59Speaker 29: base hit. Altuve scores. Walker to second. Lamont Wade Jr.
- 43:03Speaker 29: makes it three straight hits for the Astros with his
- 43:05Speaker 29: pinch hit RBI single. It's 3-2 Arizona.
- 43:08Speaker 23: That would be all, though, as the Snakes held on
- 43:10Speaker 23: for the one-run win. Now Houston turns their attention to
- 43:13Speaker 23: a six-game road trip starting against Philadelphia tomorrow night. First
- 43:16Speaker 23: pitch against the Phillies is set for 540 on Tuesday.
- 43:18Speaker 23: National coverage on CBS. With your Houston Astros report, I'm

- 43:45Speaker 10: Spend your Aggie Football Saturday right here on the Zone,
- 43:48Speaker 10: 1150 a.m.
- 43:49Speaker 5: And 93.7 fm.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Hey, thanks for joining us on a Monday edition, a
- 44:10Speaker 4: holiday edition of the big show right now.
- 44:14Speaker 1: We're going to hear from quarterback Marcel Reed, who, uh,
- 44:20Speaker 1: was pretty good on Saturday night. Um, You know, 70%
- 44:25Speaker 1: of his passes was pretty good. I'll go talk about
- 44:30Speaker 1: him tomorrow if we get the chance to play him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: We've got kind of a short show tomorrow because of Astros,
- 44:37Speaker 1: so we won't be able to fit everything in.
- 44:38Speaker 5: But let's hear from the Aggie quarterback.
- 44:40Speaker 16: What's up, guys?
- 44:43Speaker 18: We'll get things started with Marcel on the right-hand side
- 44:45Speaker 18: with Olin.
- 44:49Speaker 14: Marcel, if you could, number one, do just a quick–
- 44:52Speaker 14: self-evaluation for your performance tonight, and secondly, hey, what did
- 44:56Speaker 14: it take to get you guys going?
- 44:59Speaker 19: Yeah, I think, you know, for the first game, I
- 45:02Speaker 19: think I did pretty well. I think the team did
- 45:04Speaker 19: pretty well. Obviously, it was a kind of slow start
- 45:07Speaker 19: after the first touchdown, but we were trying to fill
- 45:09Speaker 19: things out, you know, game plan for Missouri State, obviously,
- 45:13Speaker 19: but they came out and showed us some different things.
- 45:15Speaker 19: We didn't have too much on them, so kind of
- 45:17Speaker 19: had to, you know, come to the sideline each and
- 45:19Speaker 19: every drive and figure out what they're going to do next.
- 45:21Speaker 19: I think for that, we did a pretty good job.
- 45:24Speaker 19: Second half, we bounced back and did what we were
- 45:28Speaker 19: supposed to do.
- 45:30Speaker 12: What did you think about Horton's debut and how valuable
- 45:33Speaker 12: do you think it's going to be to have a
- 45:34Speaker 12: receiver his size for you?
- 45:37Speaker 16: First of all, I just thought it was cool that.
- 45:40Speaker 19: Both of our number seven transfers scored the first touchdown
- 45:43Speaker 19: of the season. I'm really happy for Zay. Obviously, that's
- 45:47Speaker 19: a hometown friend. I've known him for a while and
- 45:49Speaker 19: when he came back to the sideline, I was like,
- 45:51Speaker 19: it's crazy, you just scored the first touchdown.
- 45:54Speaker 16: Of the season.
- 45:56Speaker 19: Yeah, I think he's going to be a great guy
- 45:57Speaker 19: for us. Obviously, you saw the vertical threat he could
- 46:00Speaker 19: be today, and he did a great job executing his plays,
- 46:05Speaker 19: making some big plays, and we're going to need him
- 46:07Speaker 19: in the future, so really excited for what's in store
- 46:10Speaker 19: for him and us.
- 46:11Speaker 18: Left side with Tony.
- 46:12Speaker 24: Obviously, you talked about Isaiah, but just multiple guys scored
- 46:15Speaker 24: in the wide receiver room. Can you just talk and
- 46:17Speaker 24: evaluate those guys as a group and just how much
- 46:19Speaker 24: easier they make your job to have that talent out there?
- 46:22Speaker 16: Yeah, I think we just tried to put it on display.
- 46:24Speaker 19: You know, we got all those guys who can work
- 46:25Speaker 19: and get open. So, trying to get them the ball,
- 46:29Speaker 19: it makes it a lot easier for me when you
- 46:30Speaker 19: have four or five targets who at any given moment can,
- 46:34Speaker 19: you know, make a small play to a big play. So, yeah,
- 46:38Speaker 19: similar amount of targets for each and every one of
- 46:40Speaker 19: them with some good yards. And I got, you know, Mario, Zay,
- 46:46Speaker 19: and Terry in the end zone today.
- 46:47Speaker 8: So, yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 19: Those guys are going to be real big for us
- 46:50Speaker 19: coming up. Really excited, like I said.
- 46:53Speaker 18: Right side with Travis.
- 46:54Speaker 6: It seemed like in the second half the offensive line
- 46:56Speaker 6: got a little bit better push and run blocking. What
- 46:58Speaker 6: do you think was the difference between the two halves?
- 47:01Speaker 19: Like I just said about Olin's question, we kind of
- 47:04Speaker 19: had to come to the sideline and figure things out.
- 47:07Speaker 19: We weren't sure what they were bringing to us from
- 47:10Speaker 19: a game plan standpoint all the time.
- 47:13Speaker 16: We had to come to the sideline.
- 47:14Speaker 19: Once we figured that out, came in at halftime, made
- 47:16Speaker 19: the adjustments we needed to, I think the O-line's communication
- 47:19Speaker 19: got better. We started to figure out what it took
- 47:23Speaker 19: to get things passed off or whatever. They were bringing
- 47:26Speaker 19: a lot of pressures at any point in time, so
- 47:30Speaker 19: You know, a lot of teams would do it in
- 47:32Speaker 19: third down, third and long, but, you know, they were
- 47:34Speaker 19: just doing it in base down, so we kind of
- 47:35Speaker 19: had to figure that out quickly and adjust some of
- 47:38Speaker 19: the plays that we called. But, you know, once we
- 47:40Speaker 19: got that done, we started to figure it out and
- 47:41Speaker 19: became more comfortable within our offense.
- 47:43Speaker 6: Early in this game, did you feel like you had
- 47:45Speaker 6: your whole arsenal of throws early, and is there any
- 47:48Speaker 6: games last year that compared to how big your toolbox
- 47:52Speaker 6: was with throws maybe on that night?
- 47:54Speaker 27: Yeah.
- 47:57Speaker 19: I mean, I think it's just about the same. Obviously,
- 47:59Speaker 19: you know, when you play the first game of the season,
- 48:01Speaker 19: you don't want to show all your stuff. And it's
- 48:04Speaker 19: the same thing. It's kind of like a scrimmage or
- 48:06Speaker 19: a spring game. But, yeah, I think, you know, for
- 48:10Speaker 19: the base plays that we had, I think we executed them,
- 48:13Speaker 19: you know, well enough to get the win today and
- 48:16Speaker 19: well enough to get the younger guys in at the
- 48:17Speaker 19: end of the game as well.
- 48:19Speaker 18: Left side with Alex.
- 48:21Speaker 22: What was kind of your encouragement to the offensive line
- 48:23Speaker 22: as you guys were trying to figure things out? And
- 48:25Speaker 22: just what was the moment you feel like things really
- 48:27Speaker 22: started to click for you guys?
- 48:29Speaker 19: Yeah, I think, you know, the big thing about that
- 48:31Speaker 19: is I didn't really say too much to them.
- 48:34Speaker 16: They actually said more to me than I did to them.
- 48:36Speaker 19: They kind of tried to lift me up in a sense. So,
- 48:40Speaker 19: you know, respect those guys a lot, their work ethic
- 48:43Speaker 19: every single day, and respect the care that they have
- 48:47Speaker 19: for their quarterbacks. And, you know, them coming up to
- 48:50Speaker 19: me speaks volume to what Coach Cush has done in
- 48:52Speaker 19: that room. And those guys want to protect. I mean,
- 48:55Speaker 19: that's their job, but they want to do their job. So,
- 48:58Speaker 19: you know, high respect for them. I know that they're
- 49:00Speaker 19: going to get it done every single Saturday. So, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 19: it just takes us getting in the film room and
- 49:05Speaker 19: understanding what we've got to do each Saturday.
- 49:07Speaker 18: All the way in the back with Tyler.
- 49:09Speaker 20: Marcel, how comfortable did you feel out there today and
- 49:13Speaker 20: maybe compared to– last year's season opener. How did you
- 49:17Speaker 20: feel about this season opener?
- 49:19Speaker 16: Yeah, no, I felt pretty good today.
- 49:22Speaker 19: You know, I don't really have nerves going into games. So,
- 49:26Speaker 19: you know, from an execution standpoint, I think, you know,
- 49:28Speaker 19: once we got things figured out, like I said, in
- 49:30Speaker 19: the second half I had a way more comfortable half.
- 49:34Speaker 19: taking what they gave me and getting those guys opportunities
- 49:38Speaker 19: to touch the ball and make plays and just do
- 49:42Speaker 19: what I'm coached to do. I think the first quarter
- 49:47Speaker 19: or so, I think I had a good first drive.
- 49:50Speaker 19: After that, we kind of stalled a little bit, but
- 49:53Speaker 19: once we got the hang of things, we clicked.
- 49:56Speaker 18: Stay in the back.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Marcel, you come off the field.
- 49:59Speaker 18: Brady Hart comes in, scores an immediate touchdown. What can
- 50:01Speaker 18: you say about him and just the depth that you
- 50:02Speaker 18: guys have?
- 50:03Speaker 19: Yeah, Brady's a great quarterback, and I think he has
- 50:06Speaker 19: a lot of weapons as well with the depth that
- 50:08Speaker 19: we have in the receiver room and the running back room.
- 50:10Speaker 19: I mean, obviously you saw Carson Baker and K.J. Edwards
- 50:13Speaker 19: tilt the rock a little bit. They don't stop moving
- 50:16Speaker 19: their feet at all, and K.J. 's a big back
- 50:18Speaker 19: who has some speed, and Carson's also another big back
- 50:21Speaker 19: that has some speed. He got in the end zone today,
- 50:23Speaker 19: but then you got A.G. and Jaden Warren, Mike Brown,
- 50:27Speaker 19: all those guys outside. It's hard for you not to
- 50:30Speaker 19: be good when you have guys like that to get open,
- 50:33Speaker 19: so Yeah, just praise to them. You know, Brady does
- 50:36Speaker 19: a great job. He's a great leader, a great person
- 50:39Speaker 19: to have in the room. And, you know, love that
- 50:41Speaker 19: he's a part of this QB room. And, you know,
- 50:43Speaker 19: he helps me out a lot just as much as
- 50:45Speaker 19: I help him.
- 50:46Speaker 18: Staying in the back with Tori and then we'll come
- 50:47Speaker 18: up with Peter.
- 50:48Speaker 6: Marcel, especially this past week, y'all have talked about how
- 50:51Speaker 6: your mantra this season is finish. Could you kind of
- 50:53Speaker 6: just talk about how y'all implemented and adjusted that with
- 50:56Speaker 6: this game?
- 50:57Speaker 19: Yeah, I think we finished the second half.
- 51:00Speaker 16: Pretty well.
- 51:01Speaker 19: I was hoping to get at least 50 on the board,
- 51:03Speaker 19: so got.
- 51:04Speaker 16: It right on the dot.
- 51:05Speaker 19: Definitely still some execution things that we can come in
- 51:09Speaker 19: on Sunday and check out before we get into next week, but.
- 51:13Speaker 16: That'll have to wait for tomorrow.
- 51:16Speaker 19: When we get into the fourth quarter, we have to
- 51:19Speaker 19: find a different level, like Coach Elko says.
- 51:23Speaker 16: We've talked about finish, but we've also talked about focus.
- 51:27Speaker 19: Just having a sense of urgency and focus day in
- 51:30Speaker 19: and day out, I think that's what's going to be
- 51:32Speaker 19: important for us this year.
- 51:33Speaker 18: Right side, Peter and then Carter.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Was 50 a goal pregame or something that developed as
- 51:40Speaker 1: you guys started putting up points?
- 51:42Speaker 19: That was a goal pregame. I mean, I wanted to
- 51:44Speaker 19: put up more, honestly. But, you know, just, you know,
- 51:48Speaker 19: definitely not satisfied. We left some money on the table
- 51:52Speaker 19: a little bit. But, you know, I think, you know,
- 51:54Speaker 19: 50 is a good clip, you know, for the point average,
- 51:59Speaker 19: you know, when you get later on in the season.
- 52:02Speaker 18: Carter on the right-hand side, and then we'll go to Tony.
- 52:04Speaker 8: Okay.
- 52:06Speaker 21: Marcel, that long pass you had to Isaiah Horton down
- 52:08Speaker 21: the sideline, 36-yard gain, was that your favorite throw of
- 52:11Speaker 21: the night? And how much of that was a product
- 52:13Speaker 21: of maybe the chemistry you had with him and then
- 52:15Speaker 21: how much maybe the improvement that you've made on those
- 52:17Speaker 21: kind of throws?
- 52:18Speaker 19: Yeah, I don't even remember I had some of the throws.
- 52:22Speaker 19: I don't know if that was my favorite one. Yeah,
- 52:26Speaker 19: it was a deep pass. You know, me and Zae
- 52:27Speaker 19: have clicked on those, you know, all offseason. Like I said, just,
- 52:31Speaker 19: you know, him being a vertical threat, a big body
- 52:33Speaker 19: who can run and, you know, create space and, you know,
- 52:36Speaker 19: make the throws easy for me.
- 52:37Speaker 16: I think that's a big thing. You know, he took
- 52:39Speaker 16: an inside release.
- 52:39Speaker 19: Right there and got over top of the corner, and
- 52:42Speaker 19: I just put it out there for him to go get.
- 52:43Speaker 16: But, you know, even when he's matched, I can put
- 52:45Speaker 16: it up there and he'll go take it from the defender.
- 52:47Speaker 19: So, yeah, I guess I'll say that's my favorite throw,
- 52:50Speaker 19: but it's always good when you connect one of your
- 52:52Speaker 19: receivers on a deep ball.
- 52:53Speaker 21: And you said that the offensive line, like, said something
- 52:56Speaker 21: to you. Do you remember, like, at what point in
- 52:58Speaker 21: the game that was and what kind of the message
- 53:00Speaker 21: was and who it was to?
- 53:02Speaker 19: I mean, you know, it really wasn't like a collective
- 53:05Speaker 19: O-line saying something to me. It was kind of, you know,
- 53:08Speaker 19: people in spurts. You know, I just remember running out
- 53:10Speaker 19: on the field, Wilkin telling me, I love you, brother.
- 53:12Speaker 19: I said, I love you, too. And then, you know, Tyree,
- 53:16Speaker 19: you know, checking in on me, telling me that they
- 53:18Speaker 19: got me tro ball. You know, I saw Blake Ivey
- 53:21Speaker 19: just– maul somebody and get hype and I kind of
- 53:24Speaker 19: gave him.
- 53:25Speaker 16: A little headbutt, but that's stuff I like to see.
- 53:27Speaker 19: Mark told me they were going to get things right,
- 53:28Speaker 19: all types of stuff.
- 53:31Speaker 16: Like I said, high respect for all those guys. I
- 53:33Speaker 16: know they're going to work.
- 53:34Speaker 19: They're going to protect me and I have no doubt
- 53:37Speaker 19: that I'm going to have time back there to make
- 53:38Speaker 19: some throws.
- 53:39Speaker 18: Tony on the left side.
- 53:40Speaker 24: Marcel, obviously week one is just a start, but just
- 53:43Speaker 24: Did you feel like all the culmination of the hard
- 53:45Speaker 24: work and the things you put together, obviously working with
- 53:47Speaker 24: Jeff Christensen and the things you've done, kind of come
- 53:49Speaker 24: to fruition tonight? And just how would you kind of assess,
- 53:52Speaker 24: did you see that kind of work out for you today?
- 53:55Speaker 19: Yeah, I just think that, you know, just all the
- 53:58Speaker 19: preparation that we've done is– kind of showed tonight. Like
- 54:02Speaker 19: I said, still left some stuff on the table, but
- 54:04Speaker 19: we can clean it up, and we have time to
- 54:07Speaker 19: do that for sure. It's a long season ahead of us, and,
- 54:11Speaker 19: you know, all these practices are just days for us
- 54:13Speaker 19: to get better, so we're going to try to improve
- 54:15Speaker 19: each and every day, and, you know, I still have
- 54:17Speaker 19: stuff I need to improve on, but, you know, I think, yeah,
- 54:20Speaker 19: for the first game, for the most part, I did
- 54:23Speaker 19: what I was supposed to do, and I'll go look
- 54:26Speaker 19: on Sunday, like I said, and just, you know, make
- 54:28Speaker 19: the adjustments I need to, you know, for going forward.
- 54:30Speaker 18: Christian on the right side, and then we're going to
- 54:31Speaker 18: wrap things up with Aaron.
- 54:33Speaker 12: You kind of mentioned this, but do you think what
- 54:35Speaker 12: you guys did today, even though it was kind of limited,
- 54:37Speaker 12: will help you as it's a bigger challenge next week
- 54:40Speaker 12: with Arizona State?
- 54:42Speaker 16: Yeah, 100%.
- 54:43Speaker 19: I mean, we ran our base stuff, and we really
- 54:46Speaker 19: need to be a high percentage with our bread and
- 54:50Speaker 19: butter thing.
- 54:50Speaker 16: So I think just getting those out.
- 54:53Speaker 19: In a game setting for the first time of the
- 54:55Speaker 19: year is really good for us to look at. It
- 54:58Speaker 19: doesn't matter who the opponent is because we're always competing
- 55:00Speaker 19: with ourselves.
- 55:02Speaker 16: But, yeah, just to see that.
- 55:04Speaker 19: We're going to come in together and watch it and
- 55:07Speaker 19: understand what we need to do better so we can improve.
- 55:09Speaker 18: Wrap things up with Aaron.
- 55:11Speaker 24: Hey, Marcel, how much confidence did it give you and
- 55:14Speaker 24: the rest of the offense to just keep going back
- 55:16Speaker 24: on the field and just seeing that zero up on
- 55:17Speaker 24: the scoreboard thanks to the defense?
- 55:19Speaker 19: Oh, it gave me a lot of confidence. I remember
- 55:21Speaker 19: going in at halftime. I told the defense, keep doing
- 55:23Speaker 19: what you're doing. And, you know, they told us, you know,
- 55:26Speaker 19: kind of keep doing what we're doing. Even though we
- 55:28Speaker 19: weren't playing well, they still had faith in us. So
- 55:31Speaker 19: shout out to them.
- 55:32Speaker 16: Shout out to.
- 55:32Speaker 19: Coach Elko, defense of mine, obviously. But, yeah, when you
- 55:37Speaker 19: see the zero on the board, that makes you happy,
- 55:39Speaker 19: you know. I don't know what the– never mind.
- 55:43Speaker 16: Spread, whatever they do. But I don't know what that is.
- 55:46Speaker 19: But, you know, hopefully somebody's happy.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Marcel Reed, yes, they did cover the spread, which I
- 55:54Speaker 1: think was about 40-and-a-half at kickoff.
- 55:57Speaker 5: So that means everyone goes home happy. You know, if.
- 56:02Speaker 1: It's 40-to-nothing, you're going, that's pretty good effort. But if
- 56:08Speaker 1: you're losing at 40-to-nothing, you know, I'm not saying all
- 56:12Speaker 1: the fans have money riding.
- 56:14Speaker 5: I'm just saying that those that do. That was Marcel Reed.
