- 0:33Speaker 3: All right. Welcome back to another episode of the Mixed
- 0:36Speaker 3: Company podcast.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I'm one of your hosts, Jameson Welsh.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Of course, I'm joined by the classy alcoholic known as
- 0:43Speaker 3: Classy Classy. What's going on?
- 0:45Speaker 4: Man?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Man? It has been a wild week. I have been
- 0:48Speaker 2: traveling so right now I am literally recording this episode
- 0:51Speaker 2: from deep in the heart of Texas. Last week, I
- 0:54Speaker 2: was in Houston for my birthday, visiting family, stuffing my
- 0:57Speaker 2: fat face of craft beer and kicking seafood out to
- 1:00Speaker 2: Brash Brewer Brewing Company. Shout out to BB's Text Orleans restaurant.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Quick tip. If you order a beer on tap at
- 1:07Speaker 2: BB's and they ask if you want it large, do
- 1:09Speaker 2: not say yes unless you have a classy alcoholic level
- 1:12Speaker 2: drinking problem. I'm not kidding. They do not fuck around
- 1:15Speaker 2: when they see large beer in the state. Just want
- 1:16Speaker 2: to let you know that No.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Texas is a different place, man, Texas is a way
- 1:20Speaker 3: different place. First of all, having birthday, I played a birthday.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Thanks birthday, you know you enjoyed it and whatnot. But No,
- 1:28Speaker 3: Texas is a whole different category. Yeah, that's a whole
- 1:30Speaker 3: different place depending on where you're at. Every city, well
- 1:34Speaker 3: every metro city is different. But that's cool, it's good
- 1:36Speaker 3: to hear. Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, And today I'm actually coming to you from Austin.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Been stuff in my fat face with barbecue and whiskey,
- 1:42Speaker 2: and well I'm here. Just got to say Governor Greg
- 1:45Speaker 2: Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, fuck y'all. Y'all a
- 1:48Speaker 2: trash ted Cruz. Everybody hates you. So with that said,
- 1:52Speaker 2: before we get into the boxing news, I want to
- 1:53Speaker 2: quickly mention something I did or tried to do while
- 1:56Speaker 2: in town. If you all haven't listened episode seven of
- 1:58Speaker 2: the show, you definitely should miss and I went on
- 2:00Speaker 2: a deep dive on the story of Jack Johnson, a
- 2:02Speaker 2: boxer from Galveston, Texas, who fought in the early nineteen
- 2:05Speaker 2: hundreds the first black man ever become a heavyweight champion.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Please go back to that app you'll learn a lot,
- 2:10Speaker 2: and you'll know why this is show is rated E
- 2:12Speaker 2: for educational. So in Galveston they have a Jack Johnson
- 2:15Speaker 2: Memorial Park with a statue commemorating the man. Did you
- 2:17Speaker 2: know that Gibson?
- 2:18Speaker 3: I did not know that until you visited, And I'm
- 2:21Speaker 3: glad they do, because he gets forgotten about when it
- 2:24Speaker 3: comes to our great boxers and great ex champions, former champions,
- 2:29Speaker 3: he gets forgotten about for whatever reason.
- 2:31Speaker 4: So I'm glad you were able to go. I'm glad
- 2:33Speaker 4: you're able to point that out.
- 2:36Speaker 3: We forget about our legends way too muchos.
- 2:40Speaker 4: A lot of guys because you're not the best or
- 2:43Speaker 4: a top ten of all time.
- 2:44Speaker 3: He's seeing that. We forget a lot of great fighters
- 2:46Speaker 3: and a lot of guys who are either in the
- 2:48Speaker 3: Hall of Fame or have a case be in Hall
- 2:49Speaker 3: of Fame, or his guys that are really really good,
- 2:52Speaker 3: we forget about them once they finished. So it was
- 2:54Speaker 3: dope to see that they have something for him.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and the man literally made his Now
- 3:00Speaker 2: just boxing history, you know, American history of black history.
- 3:03Speaker 2: But however, the park, which they say is opening to
- 3:06Speaker 2: the public from eight thirty to five Galveston, is an
- 3:09Speaker 2: hour south of Houston, so I made the drive to
- 3:10Speaker 2: take a picture with the statue. I was there like
- 3:13Speaker 2: a three PM. But for some goddamn reason, the metal
- 3:16Speaker 2: gate around the park was closed, like it was chained up,
- 3:17Speaker 2: so I couldn't get close up to the statue like
- 3:20Speaker 2: usually like they have the gate, but it's open to
- 3:24Speaker 2: the public, So I don't know why that day it
- 3:27Speaker 2: would have been closed in the afternoon when I was there,
- 3:29Speaker 2: so I got a decent picture. I got zoomed enough
- 3:33Speaker 2: to get a decent shot of the statue. But I
- 3:35Speaker 2: posted on my Instagram and blue sky count so you
- 3:37Speaker 2: can see how far away, how far away was I was.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I was kind of pissed and I troubled all that
- 3:42Speaker 2: way just to be locked out from the statue. So
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know what was going on that day. I
- 3:46Speaker 2: bet it was probably racism and Governor Greg Abbot's fault, so.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Probably lack of staff. You know, the lack of staff
- 3:51Speaker 3: when it comes to things like that. You know, everybody's
- 3:54Speaker 3: cutting back and everybody's trying to, you know, get by
- 3:57Speaker 3: with a few estaff as possible, so that could definite
- 4:00Speaker 3: happens best when it comes to public parks. I understand that.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, but yeah, it was really cool to see it,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you know, see in person. We just recorded the episode
- 4:07Speaker 2: a few weeks ago, so check out episode seven learn
- 4:09Speaker 2: about Jack Johnson, the boxing hero, boxing legend. So yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 2: with that said, you know, Stoke, this is our first
- 4:16Speaker 2: episode in February. It's a great month. It's my birthday month.
- 4:19Speaker 2: As we said, it's a Black history month. The super
- 4:22Speaker 2: Bowl was this past weekend. February fourteenth is Arizona Statehood
- 4:25Speaker 2: Day where I've lived for twenty years now. That's also
- 4:27Speaker 2: Valentine's Day. So you want to talk about what's popping
- 4:30Speaker 2: in the boxing world, Jamison.
- 4:32Speaker 4: A lot going on, man, it's a lot. You know.
- 4:34Speaker 4: We can start wherever you want to start at.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But well, I walked to the news stand this morning.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I wanted to buy some Newdi Max, but I'm pretty
- 4:41Speaker 2: sure that it is illegal in Texas. So I got
- 4:43Speaker 2: a coffee in aar fifteen and the latest issue of
- 4:45Speaker 2: the Boxing Gazette. So let's leave through and see what we
- 4:47Speaker 2: got who we got in the news here. First up,
- 4:50Speaker 2: if you're listening to this episode the day it drops
- 4:52Speaker 2: than tomorrow, February fourteenth, Valentine's day, there is going to
- 4:55Speaker 2: be a highly anticipated match between between Keishon Davis from
- 4:59Speaker 2: Virginia and Dennis Barncheck from Ukraine. Guys, this is the
- 5:03Speaker 2: chance to impress the hell out of your lady. Doesn't
- 5:06Speaker 2: matter if it's a first date or if you've been
- 5:07Speaker 2: married for years. Take your girl out to watch boxing.
- 5:10Speaker 2: The fight will be on ESPN, so any sports bar
- 5:12Speaker 2: should have been playing. She's gonna be impressed you took
- 5:15Speaker 2: her to watch the greatest sport in the world. Drinks
- 5:17Speaker 2: will be flowing. Even if she doesn't like boxing, She'll
- 5:20Speaker 2: get to watch a bunch of sweaty, jacked muscle dudes
- 5:22Speaker 2: fighting each other. She's gonna love it, trust me. So, Jamison,
- 5:26Speaker 2: are you excited about this fight?
- 5:28Speaker 3: Definitely excited. I will caution you, though, make sure your
- 5:32Speaker 3: lady likes boxing or likes sports. Don't take her to
- 5:35Speaker 3: watch boxing. If she don't like sports, don't do that.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I disagree. I think I think you can introduce her
- 5:41Speaker 2: to the love of boxing by taking say hey, we're
- 5:44Speaker 2: going out. How about this, Say we're going out for
- 5:46Speaker 2: drinks to a sports bar. We're gonna hang out, and hey,
- 5:48Speaker 2: there's a boxing match. Check it out.
- 5:49Speaker 3: So I can work, but women get bored rather quickly.
- 5:52Speaker 3: So this's caution.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I have to look. I love love, and I think
- 5:58Speaker 2: boxing is a great way to reduce just something a
- 6:01Speaker 2: new spice into the relationship. So I think, you know, yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 2: let's let's leave it up to the listeners. You know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: shout us out at letters at mixcopodcast dot com. Let
- 6:11Speaker 2: us know, does your lady like boxing? You take them
- 6:13Speaker 2: out to matches? You it as a couple.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I will say taking a lady to an actual boxing event,
- 6:21Speaker 3: that's something that is something I would do because then
- 6:24Speaker 3: she's not a fan. She will be there, she'll be
- 6:26Speaker 3: interested in it, the whole atmosphere and environment.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Watch it on TV a little bit different.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Sure, well yeah, don't not just at home, like go somewhere,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I think. But but yeah, anyway, about this fight, so
- 6:39Speaker 2: it's a little personal for me because Dennis Baroncheck defeated
- 6:42Speaker 2: Mexican boxer and Manuela Marette in May of twenty twenty four,
- 6:45Speaker 2: and I'm still kind of mad about it. They're both
- 6:47Speaker 2: great fighters, but in the spirit of mixed company, because
- 6:50Speaker 2: a Mexican guy lost to Dennis Baroncheck, I would always
- 6:53Speaker 2: rather route for the black American guy over the Ukrainian
- 6:57Speaker 2: to win, So I don't know, that's that's me guy. Sorry,
- 7:00Speaker 2: sorry to the people of Ukraine.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, sound's about an eight to one favorite,
- 7:06Speaker 3: meaning you got to back eight hundred dollars to one
- 7:08Speaker 3: hundred back. So that kind of tells you what kind
- 7:11Speaker 3: of fight it should be. There's always upsets, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 3: but this should go a certain way on Friday.
- 7:16Speaker 4: But yeah, that's kind of how it is.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I think he's gonna get some revenge for what happened
- 7:21Speaker 3: in the past for you.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, I mean, just for context, this fight is
- 7:26Speaker 2: a lightweight which is a max of one thirty five pounds,
- 7:28Speaker 2: and Melonda Verrette one championship w bill belts at one
- 7:31Speaker 2: two twenty six and one thirty. But then he went
- 7:33Speaker 2: up to one thirty five and just couldn't get the win,
- 7:35Speaker 2: which goes to show that going up even one weight
- 7:38Speaker 2: class can be difficult and risky for a fighter to do.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Maybe that'll be relevant to a conversation we'll have later
- 7:42Speaker 2: on the show. I don't know, we'll see, I'll think so.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And by the way, on the betting aspect, I would
- 7:48Speaker 2: love to bet on this fight, but guess what. It's
- 7:50Speaker 2: illegal in Texas. And even though I have a DraftKings
- 7:52Speaker 2: account in Arizona, they track your GPS and that shit
- 7:55Speaker 2: does not fly here.
- 7:57Speaker 3: How long are you in Texas for but another week
- 7:59Speaker 3: or so? Why don't you just have someone else log
- 8:02Speaker 3: into your fan duel count back home and make the
- 8:03Speaker 3: bet for you.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I don't trust anybody to do that, man, I don't know.
- 8:07Speaker 4: They can't do a whole lot. It just make the bet.
- 8:08Speaker 3: That's it.
- 8:09Speaker 4: There's not a lot they can do.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess, I just I just don't like I
- 8:12Speaker 2: don't like anybody having any log in information, you know me.
- 8:14Speaker 4: I'm just change the password and get home.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Baby.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Maybe we'll do that. We'll see, we'll figure it out.
- 8:21Speaker 4: But not rocket science.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It's the principle of the matter. God damn it. I
- 8:26Speaker 2: should be able to gamble. Texas always goes on about
- 8:29Speaker 2: how free they are, but you know liquor stores that
- 8:31Speaker 2: can't be open on Sundays. Car dealerships in Texas, they
- 8:34Speaker 2: can't be open Saturday and Sundays. Mind you, they have
- 8:37Speaker 2: to pick one day. They have to be closed one day.
- 8:39Speaker 2: No gambling cats my weed. So you know, it's only
- 8:42Speaker 2: the freedom to buy guns. And that's it.
- 8:44Speaker 4: That's the money's too big.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You got to hit the state anyway. Next up, quick
- 8:52Speaker 2: recap on the fight between David Benavidez and David Morrell
- 8:55Speaker 2: Junior that happened on February first, which will lead naturally
- 8:58Speaker 2: into our next topic. I went to my to my
- 9:01Speaker 2: favorite sports bar in Tucson to check it out, the Neighborhood,
- 9:04Speaker 2: dopest Mexican sports bar in the ghetto with the best
- 9:06Speaker 2: bar foot I've ever had. Got a margarita flight. They
- 9:09Speaker 2: call it a hood rita. There are four different types.
- 9:12Speaker 2: If you think that they're these tiny little shits to know,
- 9:14Speaker 2: you'd be wrong because they're basically four full margarita glasses.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So shout out to the neighborhood as always love. But yeah, Jameson,
- 9:22Speaker 2: did you watch the Bena Vida fight?
- 9:23Speaker 3: Did watch the fight? Watch every fight? I almost went.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I had a last second invite. I had a last
- 9:33Speaker 3: second invite, but I wasn't able to make it shake.
- 9:35Speaker 3: But no, I love fights in Vegas. Always get people
- 9:38Speaker 3: coming in town that are in the industry. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 3: I got a good ticket for you. But it's like,
- 9:43Speaker 3: you know, you gotta be down here the next thirty minutes.
- 9:44Speaker 3: If you're already doing something.
- 9:45Speaker 2: It's kind of rough.
- 9:46Speaker 3: But watched the fight. It's always good. But vina'sa care business,
- 9:51Speaker 3: you know. Uh, no surprise those shot uh one fifteen,
- 9:55Speaker 3: one eleven.
- 9:56Speaker 4: I believe on two of the cards. If I'm not mistaken,
- 9:58Speaker 4: I don't.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I don't have a written down. Sorry, hell yeah, that
- 10:02Speaker 2: was you know, all right?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Whatever, But it was a good fight, good tune up fight,
- 10:07Speaker 3: good good stay active fight. I think we need more
- 10:10Speaker 3: of those from our guys, from our elite guys who
- 10:12Speaker 3: need more stay active fights. That's what this was, and
- 10:15Speaker 3: it was cool. He's waiting for a particular someone. I
- 10:19Speaker 3: don't know if he's gonna get that particular someone anytime soon.
- 10:21Speaker 3: However he does, it won't be in America, So we'll
- 10:25Speaker 3: see what happens to how that goes about.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well, I think, uh, I think David Benavitez's next step up.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And he said to himself he wants the winner of
- 10:34Speaker 2: the Dmitri bevol versus Arthur Beeterbev sorry better Beev fight.
- 10:40Speaker 2: When I first saw better Beev's name written in my head,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I went Beeter Beev. I think and it's taken forever.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I still haven't gotten rid of it obviously, so apologies
- 10:50Speaker 2: to to the chap there, But yeah, you know this,
- 10:54Speaker 2: this last fight between Bevil and Better Beev was excellent.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I'm excited about this. It's a rematch happening on February
- 11:01Speaker 2: twenty second. Then, yeah, you know, da've ben a vida.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Call it the I got next clause if you want,
- 11:08Speaker 2: do you think he's got the skills to challenge guys
- 11:10Speaker 2: at that elite level, because both of those guys are
- 11:11Speaker 2: elite guys.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Definitely has the skills. Like you said, it's more, it's
- 11:17Speaker 4: more long you said, moving.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Up and weed. It's always tricky, right, whenever you move up,
- 11:20Speaker 3: and also when you move up in talent as well,
- 11:23Speaker 3: when you go and fight more talented guys while moving up,
- 11:26Speaker 3: that's a very big challenging it self. Also, some guys
- 11:30Speaker 3: moving up translates well, some guys.
- 11:32Speaker 4: It's just a struggle.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Whatever it is, whether it's the bodies is not the same,
- 11:36Speaker 3: the condition's not the same, the power is not the same.
- 11:39Speaker 3: So we're interesting to see how the training goes. I'm
- 11:41Speaker 3: always interested to see how the training goes when you're
- 11:45Speaker 3: moving up, and also where the mental is when you're
- 11:47Speaker 3: facing more talented guys, because when you're facing a guy
- 11:51Speaker 3: that's a keep me busy fight, the mental is not
- 11:53Speaker 3: the same. You're not preparing the same, but you're fighting
- 11:56Speaker 3: for a better, more talented, upper echelon fighter. That's when
- 11:59Speaker 3: you know if you're or not, if you stay focused
- 12:01Speaker 3: and whatnot, all the things I look for when guys fight,
- 12:05Speaker 3: when guys go up.
- 12:05Speaker 4: In town, So we'll see.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I definitely cannot wait because there's more fights to be made,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and I'm glad we're getting a little more active as
- 12:12Speaker 3: this year's getting along.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, and you know glad the Benevidas decided to
- 12:17Speaker 2: move up instead of waiting for Canelo, who may come
- 12:20Speaker 2: up in this conversation in conversation during this episode later
- 12:23Speaker 2: we'll see, but not sure there's anything going on with
- 12:26Speaker 2: him in the news. Let's let's keep scrolling to the gazette.
- 12:28Speaker 2: But yeah, before that, like I said, February twenty second
- 12:31Speaker 2: in Saudi Arabia, to meet your BEIVO from Russia Archer
- 12:35Speaker 2: better Biev also from Russia, but moved to Montreal, Canada
- 12:38Speaker 2: to pursue a professional career. This one is also personal
- 12:41Speaker 2: because Beivol is the only the second person ever to
- 12:44Speaker 2: defeat Canelo overs the first being Floyd Mayweather. And it
- 12:47Speaker 2: happened right after Canelo became the super middleweight undisputed champion
- 12:51Speaker 2: when he when he beat Hillbilly Kayleb Plant. So watching
- 12:54Speaker 2: his fight against Plant was one of the best nights
- 12:56Speaker 2: of my life and then that Vivo fight was one
- 12:58Speaker 2: of the worst. I got you, I got you Sinco
- 13:02Speaker 2: to Mayo, Yes, because yeah, because Caleb Plant was supposed
- 13:07Speaker 2: to be September of the year before negotiations fell through.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Then it came back like November, right, That's right, story
- 13:14Speaker 2: is you know Canelo was was injured. Maybe, yeah, competition
- 13:18Speaker 2: was too elite, Bevo was too big.
- 13:21Speaker 3: You know.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I I was a total Bevall hater who was happy
- 13:23Speaker 2: that he lost to better be If in their first matchup, honestly,
- 13:26Speaker 2: but but by the time the final bell rang, I
- 13:28Speaker 2: felt like it could have gone either way. You know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: Bevoll is a great fighter. You can tell how much
- 13:33Speaker 2: I've grown as a sports commentator because as a Canelo fanboy,
- 13:36Speaker 2: I used to spit on the floor when I heard
- 13:38Speaker 2: that man's name. But you got to give credit where
- 13:40Speaker 2: credits due.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah, don't it. Don't be like that, like you got it,
- 13:43Speaker 3: you know, don't get mad because your guy couldn't come through.
- 13:46Speaker 3: You gotta respect, you gotta respect the greatness of the opponent.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Sometimes it sucks, but it's not that it happens that way.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Well.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Being said, though, we still need to make more fights, right,
- 13:57Speaker 3: and you know what, let me ask you a question.
- 14:00Speaker 4: How do you feel about the fights in Dubai and
- 14:03Speaker 4: Saudi and all that?
- 14:03Speaker 2: How do you feel about those just in general that
- 14:06Speaker 2: the fights are happening over there?
- 14:08Speaker 3: Yeah, how do you feel about that?
- 14:09Speaker 2: You know, let's let's let's put a pin on that
- 14:11Speaker 2: for now, because I got some thoughts to thoughts on.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I was gonna do that because we're going into a topic.
- 14:15Speaker 4: That's why I want to ask you.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Okay, sure, sure, yeah, I mean it's I'm a mixed feelings.
- 14:20Speaker 2: You know. The one thing, you know, money talks, and
- 14:24Speaker 2: the Saudi's are putting a lot of money into boxing. Yes,
- 14:27Speaker 2: let's be real. They're doing it to get attention, move
- 14:29Speaker 2: attention away from their human rights abuses, which not even
- 14:32Speaker 2: to say that, to be like, oh, this your row
- 14:35Speaker 2: a miracle of this country, so our country is a
- 14:37Speaker 2: racist police state too, and we do terrible ship. We
- 14:40Speaker 2: just we just look down on other Middle Eastern countries
- 14:43Speaker 2: because they're brown when they do fucked up ship. Let's
- 14:45Speaker 2: be real about it. So, you know whatever, it's a
- 14:48Speaker 2: it's a it's a it's a closed case, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Uh.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Saudi Arabia has been trying to promote you know, culture entertainment.
- 14:57Speaker 2: They've opened things up with concerts. You know, Toby Keith
- 15:00Speaker 2: played for them, and they're big launch to they call
- 15:02Speaker 2: it a Saudi Vision twenty thirty. A subsidiary of that
- 15:05Speaker 2: is the Riad season boxing. So I don't think that
- 15:10Speaker 2: there's the you can' un ring that bell you know
- 15:13Speaker 2: who else? Oh god, They've had shows from Shakira, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and Riki Glacia is like all over the world. You know,
- 15:20Speaker 2: They've gotten these artists, huge artists to just say, hey man,
- 15:23Speaker 2: Saudi Arabia is cool. So my biggest concern with boxing
- 15:27Speaker 2: specifically is that they're getting a little too too much
- 15:33Speaker 2: involved in all aspects of it, where boxing is basically
- 15:36Speaker 2: going to be mostly Saudi controlled. Is my work? Do
- 15:38Speaker 2: you know what? You know what I mean?
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yeah, when I saw you know, when we see the
- 15:42Speaker 3: deal that we saw last week about where three of
- 15:46Speaker 3: the fights are going to be out of four in
- 15:47Speaker 3: the contract. It was like, all right, but here's the thing.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Where's the money coming from this country to pay the gods?
- 15:55Speaker 3: But they used to being paid, you know, like the
- 15:57Speaker 3: PBC thing. We don't talk about it, enow. That put
- 16:00Speaker 3: a lot of money in guys pockets. It was good
- 16:03Speaker 3: and bad thing. It was good because guys got paid.
- 16:06Speaker 3: They're finding on network TV, et cetera, et cetera. The
- 16:10Speaker 3: bad part was guys are getting paid, they're being lazy
- 16:13Speaker 3: and only fighting one year or fighting one you know,
- 16:16Speaker 3: they're fighting people that they knew they can beat, and
- 16:18Speaker 3: they were not taking any good fight until they're absolutely
- 16:21Speaker 3: forced to. So I get why the fights are going over.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I get why the sidis are involved. I understand it.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I have a love hate relationship with it. I don't
- 16:30Speaker 3: want to go out the human rights SOLF. That's not
- 16:32Speaker 3: my We have issues here or the whole world has issues.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I'm not gonna get into that. However, there's nothing that
- 16:39Speaker 3: replaces a big fight night in Vegas. There's nothing. I'm
- 16:42Speaker 3: glad the big rumored fight is going to take place
- 16:44Speaker 3: here in September. I'm glad that's going to happen, because
- 16:47Speaker 3: you can't take that and put it somewhere in the
- 16:49Speaker 3: middle of the world.
- 16:50Speaker 4: That don't work that way.
- 16:51Speaker 3: However, going forward, it's gonna be unfortunate that a lot
- 16:54Speaker 3: of the fights that were gonna be in La New York, Vegas,
- 16:58Speaker 3: wherever they were going to be in class situations, are
- 17:01Speaker 3: probably going to be in overseas.
- 17:03Speaker 4: That's what probably is not right. But here we are,
- 17:05Speaker 4: and that's kind of like you mentioned, guys, and all
- 17:08Speaker 4: the money goes right now, that's what the money is going.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I I don't it doesn't bother me at all that
- 17:13Speaker 2: more fights are in Saudi Arabia whatever. It's fine, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 2: but boxing is a global sport. Every country has a boxer.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But I don't like that so many more so many
- 17:22Speaker 2: of the big ones just are there, you know. Kind
- 17:26Speaker 2: of yeah, forgetting about Vegas even Madison Square Garden, that
- 17:30Speaker 2: kind of thing. Yeah, I mean the thing about the
- 17:33Speaker 2: Saudi money being involved in boxing again, let's yeah, let's
- 17:37Speaker 2: just kind of not worry about the Saudi Arabin's history
- 17:40Speaker 2: of human rights abuse for the moment. My thing is
- 17:44Speaker 2: that Riat season they paid for the Zone to stream
- 17:49Speaker 2: their fights exclusively, so they've got some stake in the zone.
- 17:52Speaker 2: The Zone, like we talked about in our last episode,
- 17:54Speaker 2: could potentially sign Top Rank who's leaving ESPN. So now
- 17:58Speaker 2: all of that is under that same or So what
- 18:01Speaker 2: about everybody else? You know, the the Keisha Davis fight
- 18:03Speaker 2: that I mentioned earlier. You know, my plan is, uh
- 18:06Speaker 2: some romantic plans to go find a sports bar and
- 18:08Speaker 2: watch that on on on Valentine's Night, But any sports
- 18:13Speaker 2: bar will have ESPN. You know, the one thing I
- 18:16Speaker 2: like doing is just going to a bar, sometimes even
- 18:18Speaker 2: a dive bar where the bartender is cool. I'm like,
- 18:20Speaker 2: can you please just switch the channel to a boxing match?
- 18:22Speaker 2: I want to watch that. We were not going to
- 18:24Speaker 2: be able to do that when Top Rank is with
- 18:27Speaker 2: the own some random, you know, neighborhood corner bar, isn't
- 18:29Speaker 2: going to be.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Able to very very very rare for that happened.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So yeah, so then cut to you know, fights in
- 18:35Speaker 2: time zones that you know, with Saudi Arabia's not too
- 18:37Speaker 2: bad because most of it's during the day on a Saturday,
- 18:40Speaker 2: but you know, yeah, the Saturday night fights, the big
- 18:42Speaker 2: deals Friday nights in Vegas. In New York. Uh, I
- 18:46Speaker 2: just worry that we're gonna lose that way too much.
- 18:49Speaker 2: And well, I mean same yeah, so.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Here because a lot of the tourists, so whenever there's
- 18:56Speaker 3: a big fight here. The reason why the promotional companies
- 18:59Speaker 3: and these federations are able to pay the boxers and
- 19:02Speaker 3: the networks so much money is because the tourism department
- 19:06Speaker 3: of each city gives money to that to hold the event.
- 19:09Speaker 3: So motors, the networks, everybody's in the same team. So
- 19:13Speaker 3: somebody comes to Vegas, the Vegas Tourism Board puts money
- 19:17Speaker 3: up so there's an event here, so everybody can be
- 19:20Speaker 3: compensated properly and whatnot. So that you know, Vegas is
- 19:24Speaker 3: a tourism town. So when you get a weekend, when
- 19:26Speaker 3: you get one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand people in town,
- 19:30Speaker 3: and I mean for the fight we're gonna talk about
- 19:32Speaker 3: in a minute, they're talking about putting that in the
- 19:34Speaker 3: football stadium. That's sixty five thousand plus, So you're talking
- 19:37Speaker 3: about half a million people gonna be in town just
- 19:39Speaker 3: for that weekend, and sixty five seventy thousand people are
- 19:42Speaker 3: gonna be in the football stadium. So those are things
- 19:45Speaker 3: that take away from the local economy, which I'm not
- 19:47Speaker 3: a fan of.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And who goes to these actual fights in Vegas. Guys
- 19:51Speaker 2: like us, well like.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Me, you will travel, so you'd be surprised.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Like the Vegas Fight, especially when it comes to the
- 20:00Speaker 3: Mexican fighters, people will come from all over, whether it's California,
- 20:05Speaker 3: a Z Mexico, it's Mexico itself, all other different pots,
- 20:09Speaker 3: or someone from like maybe a smaller country, either Central
- 20:13Speaker 3: America or even in in South America you'll see or
- 20:17Speaker 3: the Caribbean. You'll see pockets of people come from wherever
- 20:21Speaker 3: they come from because hey, it's Vegas and they want
- 20:23Speaker 3: to see the guy.
- 20:24Speaker 4: You got a member.
- 20:25Speaker 3: A lot of guys from small countries, they're the hero,
- 20:28Speaker 3: Like a lot of black are the hero of that
- 20:29Speaker 3: country or that town or that territory or whatever. So
- 20:33Speaker 3: when their guy, when their person's fighting, they're gonna go
- 20:36Speaker 3: like there's no doubt about it. And like you said,
- 20:39Speaker 3: we're probably gonna lose a lot of that, and that
- 20:40Speaker 3: ain't right. I'm not a fan of that at all.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not arguing the point. What I was getting
- 20:45Speaker 2: at is that you know, just regular, regular ass people,
- 20:47Speaker 2: working class people go to Vegas for these fights, like
- 20:49Speaker 2: you see that the fights in Saudi Arabia, you know,
- 20:52Speaker 2: like the biggest name celebrities are there, people you know, millionaires, billionaires,
- 20:56Speaker 2: huge names. Like it's not the same thing. You can't
- 20:58Speaker 2: just hop on a plane in Saudi Ria, like if
- 21:01Speaker 2: you're gonna watch a boxing match, because you can just
- 21:04Speaker 2: go to And I've never been there. I've always said
- 21:07Speaker 2: I would go anywhere in the world as long as
- 21:09Speaker 2: there's a bar, So that doesn't matter to me. But like,
- 21:12Speaker 2: what else is there to do? What drinking is there
- 21:14Speaker 2: to do? You know what craft beer is there in
- 21:16Speaker 2: Saudi Arapia. I don't think it's a lot. So you
- 21:18Speaker 2: hop on a plane in Vegas. There's a shitload of
- 21:20Speaker 2: things for you to do too, for that whole weekend.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So yeah, I agree with you, you know, local tourism,
- 21:26Speaker 2: just the access, and that's what it comes down to.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Let's go back to the basics. What are we really
- 21:31Speaker 2: talking about here with not just the Saudi money, but
- 21:35Speaker 2: top rank leaving ESPN access access to fights for regular
- 21:40Speaker 2: ass broke people like I was in college and you know,
- 21:44Speaker 2: just wanted to watch a match, you know, at a
- 21:46Speaker 2: corner bar, you know, neighborhood bar. That the trend is
- 21:51Speaker 2: all of that going away.
- 21:52Speaker 3: So in the last ten years we lost ESPN, Showtime, HBO, Yeah,
- 22:01Speaker 3: and also PBC, which is on regular network.
- 22:03Speaker 4: We've lost all that over the last ten years. How
- 22:06Speaker 4: it's gonna survive this country when you don't know where
- 22:08Speaker 4: it's gonna come on at.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I I don't I'm not optimistic about this trend,
- 22:14Speaker 2: but you know, well, we'll see how it goes. I
- 22:16Speaker 2: mean again, there's good and bad. You know this guy
- 22:19Speaker 2: uh Turkey Ala Shaikh who is sort of the the
- 22:22Speaker 2: magnate of Saudi Arabian boxing and not just boxing, but
- 22:25Speaker 2: he's involved in soccer mma, you know concept he has
- 22:29Speaker 2: put on some good fights and you know his his
- 22:31Speaker 2: whole thing is that he wanted to fix quote broken boxing.
- 22:35Speaker 2: And you know, at the end of the day, he's delivered.
- 22:37Speaker 2: You know, he's delivered Fury versus Sick. He delivered better
- 22:41Speaker 2: be Evan bevall, you know, stuff like that. So you know, again,
- 22:45Speaker 2: you got to give credit where credit is due. You
- 22:46Speaker 2: can't be a total hater just for just because because
- 22:51Speaker 2: you don't like some of the other things that that
- 22:52Speaker 2: that's going on. But yeah, I don't know. I mean
- 22:56Speaker 2: I think that, uh, I think let's just go ahead
- 22:59Speaker 2: and jump in to the topic at hand that we
- 23:01Speaker 2: really want to talk about. That Canelo Alvarez has signed.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Is it a four fight deal?
- 23:05Speaker 3: It's four fight a fight deal at least one in Vegas.
- 23:09Speaker 3: We'll see about the others. But it seems like it's
- 23:11Speaker 3: four fight deal fighting Terrence Crawford here in Vegas. It's September,
- 23:16Speaker 3: and then three other fights won this May out there
- 23:21Speaker 3: and then the other two to be determined or whatever.
- 23:25Speaker 2: The first one has already announced that he's finally fighting
- 23:27Speaker 2: William Skull in May in Saudi Arabia. So yeah, he
- 23:30Speaker 2: signed with Riad season. So like I said, it's it's
- 23:34Speaker 2: sort of a losing battle in the winter. Is money
- 23:37Speaker 2: at the end of the day. So but uh, yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 2: I I think that at the end of the day,
- 23:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna be happy that we're getting Canel O versus Crawford. Now,
- 23:46Speaker 2: this still hasn't been officially announced as sort of probably
- 23:49Speaker 2: gonna happen. There's rumors of people in the know. It's
- 23:52Speaker 2: probably enough.
- 23:54Speaker 4: It's official.
- 23:55Speaker 2: It's official, Okay, it is its official official.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, so awesome, Canelo, I'll see you in September.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Oh okay, I didn't know that.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Yeah I was.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I was bad from Twitter. Don't warn about it. So, yeah,
- 24:06Speaker 2: we're gonna get the fight this show. For the pilot episode,
- 24:08Speaker 2: we started talking about the potential of Canela Elvers versus
- 24:11Speaker 2: Bud Crawford. Maybe don't listen to that pilot episode. I
- 24:14Speaker 2: suck shit. I didn't know how to host anything at
- 24:16Speaker 2: the time, but hey, it's a pilot, you know. I
- 24:18Speaker 2: was giving it a shot. But yeah, I mean, what
- 24:21Speaker 2: are your thoughts now that it's actually happening? Also, what
- 24:24Speaker 2: please enlighten us?
- 24:25Speaker 3: I know this.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I was traveling, so I missed a couple of things.
- 24:29Speaker 2: But what was going on in the middle where it
- 24:31Speaker 2: was like Canelo was maybe gonna fight Jake Paul.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Was going to fight Jake Paul. It was all leverage.
- 24:35Speaker 3: So when you're Canelo and you you hold all the cards,
- 24:38Speaker 3: you all the keys, you can wherever you want if
- 24:41Speaker 3: you want to, you know, fake like fight Jake Paul.
- 24:45Speaker 3: You can do that if you want to make If
- 24:47Speaker 3: you feel like you're worth a certain amount of money
- 24:49Speaker 3: and that amounts not getting met, then yeah you can
- 24:52Speaker 3: be like, hey, you know what, I'm gonna fight, Dude, Like,
- 24:54Speaker 3: let me know when you're serious. So it basically wants
- 24:56Speaker 3: the you know the thing you sound like, an agreement,
- 24:58Speaker 3: not a contract like gonna remember negotiation or something like that.
- 25:02Speaker 3: And then like a few hours later, he signed a
- 25:06Speaker 3: deal with the people Overseas. So it was very funny
- 25:09Speaker 3: how he used Jake Paul and his name and his
- 25:12Speaker 3: fame and all that too. And people were pissed when
- 25:14Speaker 3: that got announced. People are like, I don't know how
- 25:17Speaker 3: much out more boxing I can do. People are fed
- 25:19Speaker 3: up to that point where you know what, I'm over it,
- 25:22Speaker 3: Like I didn't sign up for this, but cooler has prevailed.
- 25:25Speaker 3: About four five hours later, signs the deal for the
- 25:29Speaker 3: four fight deal with the folks Overseas.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Everything else is better. Jake Paul got but hurt. It's
- 25:34Speaker 4: fun to watch. I love it. With that being said.
- 25:39Speaker 3: With that being said, man, it's something that the amount
- 25:46Speaker 3: of money that both Crawford and Canela, they were never
- 25:51Speaker 3: gonna get this payday if the fight didn't happen this year.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Because I didn't know how old Crawford was. I knew me.
- 26:00Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. I didn't think of it
- 26:01Speaker 4: like that. Like he's an older guy.
- 26:03Speaker 3: He don't have a whole lot of time in prime
- 26:06Speaker 3: left and moving up and wait as you get older
- 26:10Speaker 3: normally doesn't work like it normally doesn't age well normally
- 26:14Speaker 3: way mumy goes the other way. However, the objective here
- 26:18Speaker 3: is the payday. Terrence Crawford has not been getting paid
- 26:22Speaker 3: his just due over his career. He was on top
- 26:25Speaker 3: right for a long time, not getting the correct wages
- 26:29Speaker 3: he should have gotten for his skill set. That's gonna
- 26:32Speaker 3: change this fight and as it should, right.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, just for the record, Terrence Bud Crawford is thirty
- 26:39Speaker 2: seven years old, so still a fantastic fighter. But you
- 26:42Speaker 2: said going up and wait when you're older. Let's be real,
- 26:44Speaker 2: everything gets harder. Life is hard. Everything gets harder when
- 26:47Speaker 2: you're older. You can drink. I could drink one beer
- 26:50Speaker 2: every single day for the rest of my life and
- 26:52Speaker 2: it'll always hit me harder at this age than it
- 26:55Speaker 2: did that one beer that it did at twenty one two.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean he's still he's still in great shape, obviously,
- 27:03Speaker 2: I think, because but it's like a lean like a
- 27:06Speaker 2: little guy. I think his strength definitely gets underestimated. I
- 27:11Speaker 2: think he is. He is a power puncher. He's got power,
- 27:14Speaker 2: he's he's one of those guys that got everything going
- 27:16Speaker 2: for him, power speed switch hitter. Maybe the main thing
- 27:21Speaker 2: that I dislike about him is that he's buddies with
- 27:23Speaker 2: eminem but that has nothing to do with the ring.
- 27:25Speaker 4: So well, power trans light up to one sixty eight
- 27:28Speaker 4: or wherever he needs to be at for the fight.
- 27:30Speaker 2: It's hard to say. I mean, I've I've only ever
- 27:33Speaker 2: went from a big, fat piece of shit who was
- 27:35Speaker 2: weak to a lean, lean one go cutta. I don't
- 27:39Speaker 2: even remember how lean I was in my prime of
- 27:42Speaker 2: sparring and training and going hard at the.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Gym, bro.
- 27:45Speaker 2: But but I only I never put on that much muscle.
- 27:49Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I would lift weights, you know, but I was doing
- 27:52Speaker 2: I was. I would do what I was boxing training myself.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I would do a lot of cardio, and I added
- 27:56Speaker 2: in weight just to put it in strength. But I
- 27:58Speaker 2: was never bulky. I was. I was very scrawny when
- 28:01Speaker 2: I was a kid. So I got older, I got doe,
- 28:04Speaker 2: so I put on muscle, but never enough to like
- 28:08Speaker 2: go up that much in muscle. You know what I'm saying. Oh,
- 28:12Speaker 2: just mass, Like like I was lean at my peak,
- 28:15Speaker 2: So I have no clue what it would feel like
- 28:17Speaker 2: to just be lean where I was and was on
- 28:20Speaker 2: my life and then just fucking lift and just be
- 28:23Speaker 2: able to just I said, build mass. I just I
- 28:26Speaker 2: just don't know what that's like. I know what it's
- 28:28Speaker 2: like to build fluff, fatness, you know, squishiness, Yeah, absolutely,
- 28:34Speaker 2: but I don't know. I mean I think also there's
- 28:38Speaker 2: this you see that one video of Bud just bench
- 28:41Speaker 2: pressing in jeans. This is the one like five six
- 28:43Speaker 2: hundred pounds weight where somebody off cameras telling him like, oh,
- 28:47Speaker 2: so and so said he's bigger than you, and Bud
- 28:49Speaker 2: goes bigger, don't mean stronger, and then he just does
- 28:51Speaker 2: this ridiculous deadlift in jeans and like nikes or whatever.
- 28:57Speaker 2: You know, the man is not to be underestimated to
- 28:59Speaker 2: trifle with. Whether that power translates, I don't know. But again,
- 29:04Speaker 2: if he's bulking up and putting on mass, that's also
- 29:07Speaker 2: more he can absorb, you know. Yeah, the bigger you know,
- 29:11Speaker 2: you can take the bigger punches when you're a bigger dude.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know, the worst part where you want to be
- 29:16Speaker 2: is losing weight but not building muscle mass like I
- 29:19Speaker 2: did at one point when it was like losing the
- 29:22Speaker 2: gut but not building abs. So it was like the
- 29:24Speaker 2: worst of all worlds. Everything hurt body shots. But yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 2: I mean he's got speed, speed kills. Canelo has slowed
- 29:36Speaker 2: down in uh, you know, his his older years, not
- 29:40Speaker 2: to say that he's less.
- 29:41Speaker 4: He's a smarter fighter.
- 29:43Speaker 2: He doesn't move his head like he he doesn't have
- 29:46Speaker 2: the defense like he used to, but you know he
- 29:49Speaker 2: he's better at sort of timing his opponents, downloading the information,
- 29:53Speaker 2: but has always been great at that. So I don't know.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I mean, we can sort of go round and around
- 29:58Speaker 2: all day into people different skills in the matchup. But
- 30:02Speaker 2: I think the biggest question is is how how will
- 30:07Speaker 2: Bud's performance be affected by going up I guess two
- 30:09Speaker 2: weight classes from from where he is that now, which
- 30:12Speaker 2: again wasn't it he went on Yeah yeah, and then
- 30:15Speaker 2: he's going up two more, so that I don't know,
- 30:18Speaker 2: I have not.
- 30:20Speaker 4: At this age too. At this age, it's a lot
- 30:23Speaker 4: of change.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I mean he is never a guy
- 30:28Speaker 2: that was like, he's never a guy who cut weight.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I don't believe, you know, Canelo cuts weight. He was,
- 30:34Speaker 2: but it was never a big dude to cut weight
- 30:35Speaker 2: down like he he has been building up. So and
- 30:40Speaker 2: then Canelo is probably gonna stay right where he is.
- 30:42Speaker 2: That is it one sixty eight?
- 30:43Speaker 4: I believe he was sixty eight.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, because light heavyweight won up is one seventy five.
- 30:48Speaker 2: So Canelo has said he that he walks around. I
- 30:50Speaker 2: think he said he walks around like around one to eighty,
- 30:53Speaker 2: like just day to day. So he cuts, he cuts
- 30:55Speaker 2: to get where he is. So he's already losing some
- 30:58Speaker 2: of that that mass.
- 30:59Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day, Bud's got speed,
- 31:05Speaker 2: Bud's got accuracy, but it's surgical and that is a big,
- 31:09Speaker 2: big deal. But Canelo's got power, and Canelo can take
- 31:13Speaker 2: a punch because he's a big, beefy motherfucker.
- 31:15Speaker 4: And can Bud win a decision in Vegas versus Canelo.
- 31:20Speaker 2: That's a big one. Oh yeah, Vegas. Vegas loves Canelo.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Vegas does not, does not dislike Bud. But I don't
- 31:26Speaker 2: see Vegas as a Bud Crawford town.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. Why it's it's also
- 31:31Speaker 3: and I know he signed up for four fights and
- 31:33Speaker 3: three or from overseas. But if we get a close fight,
- 31:36Speaker 3: we get a rematch sometime in twenty six. That's goes like,
- 31:40Speaker 3: we're not stupid. If it's a close fight, either way,
- 31:43Speaker 3: we get a rematch.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Here's what I say. I don't see Bud knocking out Canelo.
- 31:48Speaker 3: I don't.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Okay, that's fair, that's fair.
- 31:51Speaker 2: What he has to do is he has to absolutely
- 31:53Speaker 2: make it clear ghost the fight goes the distance. They
- 31:56Speaker 2: have to make it so clear that you know, he
- 32:00Speaker 2: that he was the winner, kind of like the Canelo
- 32:02Speaker 2: versus be Ball fight. You know I was, I was sweating,
- 32:05Speaker 2: and in the middle, I was like, it's okay, he's
- 32:07Speaker 2: got it. He's he's got he's tied him down, he's
- 32:09Speaker 2: gonna figure out how to get in in between blah
- 32:11Speaker 2: blah blah blah. By that last better, I go, I'm like,
- 32:13Speaker 2: oh shit, he lost that fight, bro, he lost that
- 32:16Speaker 2: fucking fight. So but that's that's what Bud has to do.
- 32:20Speaker 2: The fight is going to go the distance. You gotta
- 32:22Speaker 2: make it clear that you're just out out matching him
- 32:24Speaker 2: and out boxing him, you know, at every turn for
- 32:27Speaker 2: the judges to see. And I think that's his road
- 32:29Speaker 2: to victory.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Got it. Now, with that being said, do you think
- 32:33Speaker 3: he can knock down Canelo because one but not out someone.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Do you think he can knock down Canelo?
- 32:38Speaker 2: I don't think so honestly either. Again, you're just hitting
- 32:41Speaker 2: at a big giant slab of beef and Canelo has
- 32:44Speaker 2: gotten beef here with age, so and he's he's study
- 32:48Speaker 2: on his feet. I mean, I always how about this,
- 32:51Speaker 2: I could say that Bud could knock down any guy whatever,
- 32:55Speaker 2: like ten fifteen pounds is lighter than Canelo, any guy
- 33:01Speaker 2: with the accuracy, you know, if you if you tie
- 33:04Speaker 2: that ship right, if you get in the right spot,
- 33:06Speaker 2: right on the button. I don't see it. Man, you know,
- 33:08Speaker 2: he's just there is something to be said for just
- 33:11Speaker 2: punching into a big slab of beef.
- 33:14Speaker 4: That's real about you.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I mean, do you think that that that he could
- 33:17Speaker 2: do that?
- 33:18Speaker 3: I think he can knock him down with a man,
- 33:20Speaker 3: I don't see him knocking can Allow. I think anything,
- 33:23Speaker 3: and I think anything can happen. Somebody getting hit in
- 33:26Speaker 3: the wrong place, and you know, I would say down happening.
- 33:29Speaker 3: It's highly unlikely, but I can least see it.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Surprised.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't, I don't see it. Knock got happening. Okay,
- 33:37Speaker 2: but do you think Canel strong enough to knock but out?
- 33:42Speaker 3: Yes? Yes, yeah, yeah, like that's thing, but it's very
- 33:48Speaker 3: hard to catch. So that and Canel is not the
- 33:53Speaker 3: most active guy at this day of his career as
- 33:56Speaker 3: he was a decade ago. So that's where it would
- 33:58Speaker 3: be highly unlikely for he not out per se. I think,
- 34:03Speaker 3: like you mentioned, you'd have to have you'd have to
- 34:05Speaker 3: win the Each guy would have to win to fight
- 34:07Speaker 3: their way, right, Crawford had to be the busier guy.
- 34:10Speaker 3: A lot of points, very decisive rounds where he's tagging
- 34:14Speaker 3: Canelo getting out the way, since Tis later doing the
- 34:16Speaker 3: same thing, get out the way, moving moving, moving tire,
- 34:19Speaker 3: canell out body shots, get out the way.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Cane have to use his strength in the vanges.
- 34:24Speaker 3: He's a bigger guy leaning on him, putting pressure on Crawford,
- 34:28Speaker 3: cutting off the ring, making sure he's able to basically
- 34:31Speaker 3: sert his will on the fight.
- 34:32Speaker 4: So again, it's a chess match.
- 34:34Speaker 3: It's basically who's able to play their game, who's able
- 34:37Speaker 3: to fight their fight, and that's what it comes down to,
- 34:39Speaker 3: and that's why we want to see these are two
- 34:41Speaker 3: best guys that realistically can actually get the fight.
- 34:44Speaker 4: That we have and I'm glad we're getting it.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's that's a really good couple few points
- 34:49Speaker 2: here he just made. I mean, Canelo has not gotten faster,
- 34:52Speaker 2: his boxing has not gotten better. He's sort of you know, peaked.
- 34:56Speaker 2: And also but is fast and what if. The one
- 35:00Speaker 2: thing I do know from sparring is that the more
- 35:02Speaker 2: you miss, the more tired you get. When you miss
- 35:04Speaker 2: a big power punch, that drains you more than actually
- 35:07Speaker 2: hitting a guy with with power punches, so I can see.
- 35:09Speaker 2: And also another thing, Canelo has gotten tired in the
- 35:13Speaker 2: last half of his last few fights, you know from
- 35:16Speaker 2: uh even after after Befall. You know you see the
- 35:18Speaker 2: British guy that he fought in Mexico. Oh god, what's
- 35:22Speaker 2: his name? John Ryder? Do you remember that, like his
- 35:26Speaker 2: his last homecoming fighting. I think it was John Ryder.
- 35:29Speaker 2: He was, he was a British that I know for
- 35:31Speaker 2: a fact, I have I have a hot take.
- 35:33Speaker 3: On that fight.
- 35:34Speaker 2: That fight went the distance. Canelo knocked right or down
- 35:36Speaker 2: like three times throughout the throughout the fight, maybe even
- 35:40Speaker 2: like four or something like that I thought. I thought,
- 35:42Speaker 2: in my head, Okay, he could probably knock this guy out,
- 35:44Speaker 2: but he's gonna sort of he's gonna stretch it out,
- 35:46Speaker 2: put on a show, you know, play with this food.
- 35:48Speaker 2: He's you know, he's a giant stadium. He's gonna put
- 35:51Speaker 2: on a show. I think that Canelo ended up not
- 35:55Speaker 2: being able to knock John Ryder out by the end
- 35:58Speaker 2: of the fight. I think he sort of stretched it
- 36:00Speaker 2: out right, but then I don't think he could have
- 36:03Speaker 2: pull he was able to pull it off by the end.
- 36:04Speaker 2: That's sort of my my spicy taker.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Conditioning may have been an issue.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think I think it's been an issue
- 36:11Speaker 2: for him, you know, for for the last few fights.
- 36:13Speaker 2: And and that's totally I'm not like saying that he
- 36:15Speaker 2: sucks shit or anything like that, you know.
- 36:17Speaker 3: News Yeah, no, no, yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't see Bud. I haven't seen Bud
- 36:23Speaker 2: slowing down. But again, I haven't seen him fighting at
- 36:25Speaker 2: one sixty eight that part too, so I don't know.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I kind of here's here's what I would wish we
- 36:32Speaker 2: could have. I wish he could fight, Bud could fight
- 36:34Speaker 2: somebody at one sixty eight. First you know, like someone else,
- 36:38Speaker 2: anybody else money.
- 36:39Speaker 3: When somebody's involved, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Sure, sure, I'm just saying risk.
- 36:44Speaker 3: You can't even risk fighting somebody at one sixty eight
- 36:46Speaker 3: between now and September because if you get hurt, or
- 36:49Speaker 3: if something happens, or god forbid, you get hit, and
- 36:53Speaker 3: you know the you know, the opposite happens, you know
- 36:56Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 36:56Speaker 4: So right now you kind of have to protect the
- 36:58Speaker 4: protect the bags.
- 37:00Speaker 2: I don't believe it, whatever happened, I'm with you. I'm
- 37:03Speaker 2: all I'm saying is that what I wish I could
- 37:04Speaker 2: see is what Bud looks like, which is I don't
- 37:08Speaker 2: care one sixty Tomato can and nobody a uber driver,
- 37:12Speaker 2: you know, some Joe's mechanic whatever, Just to see what
- 37:15Speaker 2: he looks like at that, how he moves, you know,
- 37:17Speaker 2: does he slow down? Does he have less power? I
- 37:20Speaker 2: would That's what I would kill for. And I don't know, Hell,
- 37:23Speaker 2: I'd love to see him a spar just sparring, but
- 37:27Speaker 2: it was different, like you know what I mean. So yeah, yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 2: so so I don't know.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I mean, I.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I'm caught between, you know, my two favorite fighters at
- 37:36Speaker 2: the moment, I love both these guys with all my heart.
- 37:38Speaker 2: I think they're they're amazing fighters and I love watching them.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Bud Crawford versus Earl Spence is probably my favorite of
- 37:45Speaker 2: the like modern recent boxing matches I've ever seen, just
- 37:49Speaker 2: amazing performance.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Quick question, how the hell did Earl Spence get cleared
- 37:54Speaker 3: to fight because he couldn't see out of his eye? Yeah?
- 37:58Speaker 2: I don't actually know that story because what happened. He
- 38:01Speaker 2: had a car accident or something like that. Yeah, he's
- 38:03Speaker 2: had multiple things, but he couldn't see the left hooks.
- 38:06Speaker 3: And like whatever, you anyone who's been in a fight,
- 38:09Speaker 3: whenever you can't see a punch, it is all bad. Now.
- 38:12Speaker 3: I didn't have a.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Rooting interest, like I liked Spence before the accidents and stuff.
- 38:16Speaker 3: But when you can't see punches coming, when when you're
- 38:20Speaker 3: reacting a second or two later, once it's on the
- 38:23Speaker 3: second round, like oh, this fight's over, Like there was
- 38:26Speaker 3: no He's reacting when the punch is already hitting him.
- 38:30Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, but at least believe how
- 38:32Speaker 4: the hell did he get cleared by?
- 38:34Speaker 3: Uh? It wasn't that.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Where was the fight that was in Dallas.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Or I don't remember that was a few years ago.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Now, a couple of it may have been here. It
- 38:44Speaker 3: felt like it was somewhere else.
- 38:46Speaker 2: It was in Vegas. No, it's I'm looking it up now.
- 38:48Speaker 2: It's it's in Vegas.
- 38:49Speaker 4: It was a Vegas that's right. It was the summertime.
- 38:50Speaker 4: It was in summertime.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Thing.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, I yes, it's always possible he
- 38:55Speaker 2: didn't see the hooks coming. But another thing that I
- 38:57Speaker 2: know is that sometimes you just start slow to react
- 38:59Speaker 2: with some but he's a lot faster than you are.
- 39:01Speaker 2: You know, you you catch the replay and you know
- 39:05Speaker 2: of any fight, you know somebody who's really fast, and
- 39:07Speaker 2: you see a guy like you know, throwing a punch
- 39:09Speaker 2: and then putting his hand up to block a hook
- 39:11Speaker 2: after the hook already show up. He's doing the motion.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Is just the other guy's just fast as ship.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and if your visions it makes it that much worse.
- 39:20Speaker 2: But yeah, so anyway, we'll see what happens if I
- 39:24Speaker 2: get closer. But ask a for you right now, who
- 39:26Speaker 2: would you bet on the Canelo Alvarez or Bud Crawford
- 39:28Speaker 2: to win.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Canlo is gonna be the favorite depending on the number. No,
- 39:33Speaker 3: let me check see if it's updated yet, hold on.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Well, but yes, go ahead do that. But also regardless
- 39:38Speaker 2: of the numbers, like who who would you put money
- 39:40Speaker 2: on to come I.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Had to bet it, bet it? I would bet Canelo
- 39:43Speaker 3: will win if I had to bet it right now. However,
- 39:46Speaker 3: with all that beings said, yes it's not up yet. Well,
- 39:48Speaker 3: all that being said, if I got a good number
- 39:51Speaker 3: on Crawford as the underdog, I would definitely take a
- 39:55Speaker 3: shot at that because he had a legit chance of
- 39:57Speaker 3: winning for all the things that we mentioned over the
- 39:59Speaker 3: last few minutes. So does it depends on the number,
- 40:01Speaker 3: Like if Canelo's minus two hundred, then that's a pretty
- 40:05Speaker 3: big number. That means Crawfords will be like plus one
- 40:07Speaker 3: seventy plus one eighty. Take your chances and see what happens.
- 40:10Speaker 3: So it all depends on the number.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Right, Well, I I think I would bet Crawford if
- 40:17Speaker 2: he is he's probably gonna be the underdog. I also
- 40:19Speaker 2: like to just kind of bet on the longer shot
- 40:21Speaker 2: so I can put in less money and get a
- 40:23Speaker 2: bigger payday, So I would probably do that. I probably
- 40:26Speaker 2: would have bet on the Philadelphia Eagles, Not probably, I
- 40:28Speaker 2: would have if I wasn't in Texas, and it wasn't
- 40:31Speaker 2: shot out of my gambling gambling app.
- 40:33Speaker 3: So whatever, you know, That's what I'm saying. You gotta
- 40:36Speaker 3: you gotta have somebody trust, some network, you get it.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I shouldn't have to go through it. I shouldn't have
- 40:40Speaker 2: to pull some kind of like you know, some matrix
- 40:44Speaker 2: neo kind of sending messages through the through the interwebs,
- 40:47Speaker 2: you know, to get somebody's account on another face or
- 40:49Speaker 2: something like that.
- 40:50Speaker 4: As somebody who bets more than an average person.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Okay, if I go.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Out of town, I have somebody that I trust, take
- 40:57Speaker 3: take care of things and call it a day.
- 41:00Speaker 4: It makes it a lot of It makes it a
- 41:01Speaker 4: lot easier.
- 41:03Speaker 2: To be fair, I don't bet a lot. I don't.
- 41:05Speaker 2: I I kind of wait till you know something I'm
- 41:07Speaker 2: really interested in. Bless. I gotta. I gotta keep some
- 41:09Speaker 2: rules to keep myself from you know, going ahead on
- 41:12Speaker 2: I respect it. Respect Yet I know myself. I know myself,
- 41:15Speaker 2: So you know, I just some things and I keep
- 41:17Speaker 2: it simple. I don't do any of the like over
- 41:19Speaker 2: under this or that or how many yards and blah
- 41:22Speaker 2: blah blah is going to win this match? You know,
- 41:24Speaker 2: maybe for a boxing match, I'll be like, you know,
- 41:26Speaker 2: if I know the fighter, I'll say like, maybe they'll
- 41:28Speaker 2: win by knockout and like the sixth or seventh round
- 41:30Speaker 2: like I would. I would always been on Tank to
- 41:33Speaker 2: win by knockout on like round six or seven anywhere.
- 41:36Speaker 3: For me.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah, So anyway, so we'll see and uh, you know, hey,
- 41:42Speaker 2: let's let's let's end this topic with this. I am
- 41:44Speaker 2: very excited. I am very excited to see this match
- 41:46Speaker 2: that you and I have been talking about since this
- 41:49Speaker 2: show was created, so since its inception, and you know
- 41:53Speaker 2: you were I got also another credit. I wasn't totally
- 41:56Speaker 2: sure that the fight we'd be made because of the
- 41:58Speaker 2: disparity in the fighters and wait styles, et cetera. You
- 42:01Speaker 2: had faith, you said it was gonna be done. You
- 42:03Speaker 2: said it was gonna be done this year, by the way,
- 42:05Speaker 2: So to give you Jamison credit wor credits to that
- 42:09Speaker 2: was a great call. And uh and I even said,
- 42:11Speaker 2: don't go back to listen to the episode because it's
- 42:13Speaker 2: because I sucked. But I said I would want to
- 42:16Speaker 2: see it happen this year, but I don't believe that
- 42:18Speaker 2: it would. And I'm I'm always happy to admit that
- 42:22Speaker 2: I was wrong.
- 42:23Speaker 4: So yeah, I'll put it this way. When there's a
- 42:25Speaker 4: lot of money at steak, you only have a certain
- 42:28Speaker 4: period of time take.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Advantage of that money. That mighty always gonna be there,
- 42:31Speaker 3: sood gonna be like, you know what, I'm giving you
- 42:33Speaker 3: money and you taking your time? No, no, no, no, nope, nope.
- 42:36Speaker 3: So that's why, big reason why if you offered both,
- 42:38Speaker 3: I think both guys are gonna make non figures of
- 42:40Speaker 3: with that fight.
- 42:41Speaker 4: H what side is evolved. You gotta take it, you
- 42:44Speaker 4: got to.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I thought that Canelo would be the one to turn
- 42:48Speaker 2: it down. To be quite honest with you, I believe
- 42:50Speaker 2: that Bud would have been in all all the way.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I think Canela would have been like that, and I
- 42:54Speaker 2: I think he would have been worried about getting embarrassed
- 42:57Speaker 2: by a guy that's so much smaller than him that like,
- 43:00Speaker 2: you know, he went up to Bevall who was much bigger,
- 43:03Speaker 2: and he was that was fine, right, But I would
- 43:06Speaker 2: have thought he wasn't gonna say no because I don't
- 43:07Speaker 2: want to risk it. And you know, my ass who
- 43:09Speaker 2: by a little guy?
- 43:10Speaker 3: Think about like this, how many other big fights for
- 43:13Speaker 3: a guy can make nine figures how many of those
- 43:17Speaker 3: are left without fighting at Jake Paul or some random
- 43:19Speaker 3: circus situation.
- 43:22Speaker 2: No, you got a point, and gotta say too that news.
- 43:25Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it came out on my birthday. So Canelo,
- 43:27Speaker 2: thank you for celebrating my birthday with the announcement of
- 43:30Speaker 2: the Crawford fight. So I appreciate you know, it means
- 43:32Speaker 2: a lot man you. And and let's also be real,
- 43:35Speaker 2: it's probably wasn't Canelo. It was probably Eddie Reinoso, a
- 43:37Speaker 2: trader manager. So Eddie, thank you so much for doing
- 43:41Speaker 2: that for my birthday.
- 43:41Speaker 4: Thank you, very nice, very nice.
- 43:44Speaker 2: So want to move on to our recurring segment that
- 43:47Speaker 2: we call pop Pugilism. So this segment we talk about
- 43:52Speaker 2: a movie, TV show, documentary related to boxing. The least
- 43:55Speaker 2: few times we talked about Jack Johnson documentary, very serious,
- 43:59Speaker 2: very intense, you know, history of racism in the sport,
- 44:02Speaker 2: et cetera. We talked about Roberto Duran, who had really
- 44:05Speaker 2: a couple of difficult times throughout his career. So this
- 44:08Speaker 2: time I wanted to talk about something really stupid, and
- 44:11Speaker 2: I think I found just the thing. It's a film
- 44:14Speaker 2: called Undisputed, directed by Walter Hill, who also directed The
- 44:18Speaker 2: Warriors forty eight hours, the pilot of Deadwood. This movie
- 44:22Speaker 2: stars Wesley Snipes, Ving Raims, as well as some other
- 44:26Speaker 2: pretty well known people like Peter Fulk Fisher, Stevens, Wes Stoody,
- 44:29Speaker 2: and Michael Rooker in smaller roles. So this movie budget
- 44:32Speaker 2: estimated between fifteen and twenty million. Box office grows fourteen
- 44:36Speaker 2: point nine. So it's a failure because you gotta double
- 44:39Speaker 2: your budget in order to be a success in Hollywood.
- 44:42Speaker 2: But this movie somehow became a direct to video franchise.
- 44:46Speaker 2: But we'll talk about that a little bit. It's from
- 44:48Speaker 2: two thousand and two, and I just want to get
- 44:50Speaker 2: your thoughts, jameson what did you think of this movie Undisputed?
- 44:54Speaker 3: So back while I was younger, I was a big
- 44:56Speaker 3: DVD person. I would love to buy DVD's get Him on.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Sale, you know, one dollar band five to our band.
- 45:03Speaker 3: That's one of the DVDs I actually have. It's somewhere
- 45:05Speaker 3: in this house, uh somewhere in a box or create somewhere.
- 45:08Speaker 3: But uh yeah, No, Undisputed is one of those movies
- 45:11Speaker 3: I had. It's like, I'm was like a hood classic
- 45:13Speaker 3: in a way. You know, he had being Raims and
- 45:15Speaker 3: he had Wessey Snipes in it. Uh, a lover was
- 45:18Speaker 3: in it, which was funny. So yeah, a lot of
- 45:21Speaker 3: familiar faces. It was just we remember we were at
- 45:24Speaker 3: that time where people were trying to make Tyson like movies, right, like,
- 45:29Speaker 3: trying to mimic his life, the situation and whatnot.
- 45:32Speaker 4: And we went that through that for a while.
- 45:34Speaker 3: But that's what it felt like when he unfortunate with
- 45:37Speaker 3: the jail back in his day and you know, ended
- 45:40Speaker 3: up coming out and you know, fighting again all that,
- 45:42Speaker 3: that whole thing. That's kind of how it felt like.
- 45:44Speaker 4: But it was it was cool for it was.
- 45:45Speaker 3: It wasn't it wasn't a great movie like let's you know,
- 45:48Speaker 3: but it was for what it was, it was Okay,
- 45:51Speaker 3: it was cool.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I like that it's in that periods. Two thousand and
- 45:54Speaker 2: two is that period right before CGI took over, And
- 45:57Speaker 2: I appreciate the little bit like being so sorry. Let's
- 46:01Speaker 2: uh just quick recap. The story about is about a
- 46:04Speaker 2: boxer named Monroe Hutchin played by the Goat Wesley Snipes.
- 46:07Speaker 2: He's the champ in the Sweetwater Prison, but then the
- 46:10Speaker 2: actual legit heavyweight champion of the world, George Iceman Chambers
- 46:13Speaker 2: played by Ving Rams. He gets convicted of rape and
- 46:15Speaker 2: gets sent to the same prison by some bullshit block contrivance.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Ving needs to fight Wesley Stipes in a boxing boxing
- 46:22Speaker 2: match to get out of jail early, like Peter Falk,
- 46:25Speaker 2: has some kind of mob connections and he's got connections
- 46:28Speaker 2: on the parole board. That was all kind of just muddled,
- 46:30Speaker 2: but but yeah, Ving Rams gets transported to the prison
- 46:34Speaker 2: in a real helicopter. They land that helicopter in a
- 46:38Speaker 2: real prison set. You know, I'm I'm assuming it's a
- 46:40Speaker 2: close prison for a hobby, but they're filming outside these days,
- 46:43Speaker 2: that helicopter would be cgi and it would look terrible.
- 46:46Speaker 2: So I was also a physical media guy. I for me,
- 46:52Speaker 2: I always liked the highest quality possible, so I bought DVDs,
- 46:56Speaker 2: But then I stopped buying them when Blu rays became
- 46:59Speaker 2: a thing, so I wanted to wait for them to
- 47:01Speaker 2: be cheaper so I wouldn't have to buy my movies.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Over and over. Did the same thing with four K,
- 47:06Speaker 2: So now I'm back to collecting physical media. Because I
- 47:08Speaker 2: wanted four K. Because I got the Giant TV, I
- 47:12Speaker 2: want to use it to its prime. I don't want
- 47:13Speaker 2: to watch it, you know, a DVD on a giant
- 47:16Speaker 2: four K. So but so what that said. The reason
- 47:20Speaker 2: I mentioned that is that you go back to all
- 47:22Speaker 2: these movies early two thousands and later, you can really
- 47:25Speaker 2: see that they filmed outside. It wasn't green screen. They
- 47:30Speaker 2: put in the money, the effort, They sent a crew
- 47:32Speaker 2: out into the woods or whatever. They filmed flashbacks the
- 47:37Speaker 2: movie takes place in the prison, by the film flashbacks
- 47:39Speaker 2: of Ving Raims fighting in a ring from when he
- 47:43Speaker 2: was you know, the actual champ. So all of that
- 47:45Speaker 2: I really appreciate when a movie puts in that effort.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Walter Hill is a very good director, and I knew that,
- 47:51Speaker 2: you know, his his stamp on it was was going
- 47:54Speaker 2: to make a difference. So I think that, yes, the
- 47:55Speaker 2: movie isn't great. In fact, I I would probably say
- 47:58Speaker 2: the movie is not good, but there is fun to
- 48:00Speaker 2: be had. I had fun with this. Yeah. The one
- 48:05Speaker 2: thing I do like is that both Wesley Stimps and
- 48:09Speaker 2: Van Rahims are very unlikable characters. I think we need
- 48:12Speaker 2: more unlikable protagonists. Absolutely, Yeah, not everybody has to be
- 48:15Speaker 2: you know, a really nice guy caught in a bad situation. Yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 2: I mean you know. It's the what I mentioned earlier.
- 48:24Speaker 2: This somehow became a franchise, like it became a cult classic.
- 48:27Speaker 4: That part I didn't know that parably did not know that.
- 48:30Speaker 3: I did not know until until today.
- 48:32Speaker 2: I was funny, I actually knew. I didn't realize that
- 48:35Speaker 2: I knew this until I was doing my research last
- 48:37Speaker 2: night because I watched Undisputed two before I watched the
- 48:41Speaker 2: original a few years ago thanks to my buddy David
- 48:43Speaker 2: Black rip uh and this one. In the sequel, George
- 48:47Speaker 2: Iceman Chambers is replaced by Michael Jay White, who fucking rules.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 48:52Speaker 2: He has to fight a guy named Boyka, played played
- 48:54Speaker 2: by the British martial artist Scott Atkins, who also rules admittedly,
- 48:59Speaker 2: and the the crux of the story is that this
- 49:01Speaker 2: kind of pissed me off is that Iceman Chambers lost
- 49:04Speaker 2: a match to Boyka. In order to win the rematch,
- 49:06Speaker 2: he had learned to kickbox. So I've done fist boxing,
- 49:09Speaker 2: but I've never done a leg boxing. I'm not flexible
- 49:11Speaker 2: at all. So the big thing at the end, like
- 49:14Speaker 2: the montage, is Michael Jay White learning how to kick
- 49:18Speaker 2: the heavy bag and he wins the match through that
- 49:23Speaker 2: you know, so he betrays fist boxing, which broke my heart,
- 49:26Speaker 2: but it was the second was actually a fun movie.
- 49:30Speaker 2: So I've seen the second one. Now I've seen the
- 49:33Speaker 2: first one. The third movie then takes Boyka Scott Adkins
- 49:37Speaker 2: and it makes him the protagonist, like Iceman is gone,
- 49:40Speaker 2: and the fourth movie is literally called Boyka Colon Undisputed.
- 49:44Speaker 2: So it's it just completely said, let's just build this franchise,
- 49:49Speaker 2: direct a video around this random guy that we brought
- 49:51Speaker 2: in the sequel, and get rid of anything related to
- 49:54Speaker 2: the first one except prison, which is kind of funny.
- 49:58Speaker 2: So yeah, maybe the future will talk about the sequels
- 50:01Speaker 2: even though they're they're about leg boxing, which whatever are you?
- 50:05Speaker 2: I don't I don't know why, Like maybe, okay, I
- 50:08Speaker 2: do know why. It's jealousy. It's because they can't kick
- 50:10Speaker 2: for ship that I'm always like, keep busing. That's stupid.
- 50:14Speaker 2: But it's cool, you know, Scott Dickens is a very
- 50:16Speaker 2: good martial artist and it's fun to watch. But but yeah,
- 50:19Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I mean, what did
- 50:20Speaker 2: you think about this movie, Jamison?
- 50:21Speaker 3: We rate this.
- 50:23Speaker 4: It wasn't that it was like it was a movie.
- 50:25Speaker 3: It was passable. I think it was like one hundred
- 50:26Speaker 3: or an hour and a half. It was. It wasn't crazy,
- 50:30Speaker 3: it was It was cool for what it was, but
- 50:34Speaker 3: a lot of politics in it, a lot of like
- 50:37Speaker 3: politics in it. Basically mentioned you know if you make
- 50:40Speaker 3: this fight well a certain sentence also money involved when
- 50:45Speaker 3: the file take it. It's just you know, all those
- 50:47Speaker 3: things were nice funnel sub loots. But at the end
- 50:50Speaker 3: of the day, it's a two point six out of
- 50:53Speaker 3: four gloves.
- 50:55Speaker 2: I was given two point seventy five. I likely matchup.
- 50:58Speaker 4: You can get me there, I can get there. But
- 51:01Speaker 4: it was it was interesting, it was interesting, it.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Was about it was fun. Based on what we've watched
- 51:06Speaker 2: for the show again, real life stories, you know, biopics,
- 51:10Speaker 2: a lot of heartbreaking stuff, you know, hard to watch things,
- 51:12Speaker 2: clears to shields, growing up at the ghetto and her
- 51:14Speaker 2: movie and all that thing. It was kind of really
- 51:16Speaker 2: nice and nice breath of fresh air. It's just something
- 51:18Speaker 2: kind of silly fun again the runtime killer. So I'll
- 51:23Speaker 2: give it two point seventy five. A light recommend if
- 51:25Speaker 2: you like, if you like Wesley Snipes and bing Rings, yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 2: definitely watch it.
- 51:30Speaker 3: You can.
- 51:30Speaker 4: You can watched a lot worse of it that way.
- 51:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, honestly, you can watch a lot
- 51:34Speaker 2: worse Wesley Snype movies to be correct that part with
- 51:37Speaker 2: the part though. I don't like the Baseball one that
- 51:39Speaker 2: he did with Albertinio the Fan. I hate that movie
- 51:43Speaker 2: very movie, very Yeah, and Baseball is the worst is
- 51:46Speaker 2: not even sports pouring. So yeah, two point seventy five
- 51:49Speaker 2: for Undisputed two thousand and two, directed by Walter Hill
- 51:52Speaker 2: Wesley snipe heads. Check it out. Yeah, one last thing
- 51:58Speaker 2: before we go, So we do a mail bag question.
- 52:02Speaker 2: But I'm gonna throw you a curveball on this one,
- 52:04Speaker 2: all right. I was I was recording another podcast with
- 52:09Speaker 2: my buddies of the Han Takes Shots first podcast talking
- 52:13Speaker 2: about Star Wars, and I was mentioning, you know, I
- 52:16Speaker 2: do the Mixed Company podcast. Another guy on the show
- 52:18Speaker 2: is like, hey man, where do you fall on Tyson
- 52:21Speaker 2: versus Ali? And I said, I don't. I never get
- 52:24Speaker 2: into those kinds of discussions, like fantasy matchups. There's so
- 52:28Speaker 2: many real fighters that are active and alive, you know,
- 52:32Speaker 2: real fights that could happen. Now that that's kind of
- 52:34Speaker 2: where my what I would rather talk about it, Like
- 52:37Speaker 2: you want to talk about what could happen if Bud
- 52:38Speaker 2: Crawford goes up to weight classes? If I canelo. I
- 52:40Speaker 2: got you, but I want to give you get your
- 52:42Speaker 2: take on this kind of spin off that question, that
- 52:44Speaker 2: guy's question to me into a mail back topic, like
- 52:47Speaker 2: do you ever kind of get into those thought exercises
- 52:50Speaker 2: like Tyson versus Ali? Or do you think that's kind
- 52:53Speaker 2: of still?
- 52:53Speaker 3: I think it's tough because there's so many different things, right,
- 52:57Speaker 3: They're a generation apart. So the way Tyson grew up
- 53:02Speaker 3: and trained the whole nine is way different than Ali's.
- 53:06Speaker 3: So the power, the early conditioning of Mike Tyson, like
- 53:10Speaker 3: eighteen through like twenty three year old Mike Tyson's conditioning
- 53:13Speaker 3: is way different than Ali. Ali was a more athletic guy,
- 53:18Speaker 3: but he trained and you know, everything was different. Like
- 53:20Speaker 3: it's very hard to say who would win or what
- 53:23Speaker 3: you know, what would happen. I mean, I guess I
- 53:26Speaker 3: favor a Leaf. I had to have you forced me to.
- 53:30Speaker 3: But again, like I don't know, if you know, I
- 53:33Speaker 3: don't know if he finding one that hit higher than
- 53:35Speaker 3: Tyson prime Tyson.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Don't know, So it goes, it varies. I'm not a
- 53:40Speaker 4: big fan of it. On because there's so many things.
- 53:41Speaker 3: That happened generationally, there's so many different advent like for instance,
- 53:45Speaker 3: Sugar Ray Leonard versus Floyd Mayweather. Who you know what
- 53:49Speaker 3: I mean, Like you got a guy from basically from
- 53:51Speaker 3: the seventies and eighties finding a guy from the nineties,
- 53:53Speaker 3: two thousand, twenty tens. There's so much that has changed,
- 53:57Speaker 3: so much that is that is, you know, different technology
- 54:01Speaker 3: all nine. I don't know who, I don't know. I
- 54:04Speaker 3: saw I saw when I was kind of fascinating. Though.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Someone asked if Crawford fought Floyd at one forty seven,
- 54:13Speaker 3: that was kind of interesting, even though they are different
- 54:16Speaker 3: in age they're about ten years apart or maybe maybe
- 54:19Speaker 3: a little bit more than.
- 54:20Speaker 4: That now, but that was quite fascinating.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Even then. It's not fair because again that's just a
- 54:25Speaker 3: whole different generation, whole different age group. It's hard to compare, really,
- 54:31Speaker 3: it really is. I agree.
- 54:33Speaker 2: I The way I see it is that I just
- 54:36Speaker 2: kind of there's so much about like I said, at
- 54:38Speaker 2: Real Active Fighters that we can talk about so many
- 54:40Speaker 2: potential fights that ken and should happen that are not happening,
- 54:45Speaker 2: that you know, it has to be money. Negotia's listen
- 54:47Speaker 2: to that. I would much rather like dissect the fights
- 54:50Speaker 2: that the sector fighters that are out now, who could
- 54:52Speaker 2: potentially fight each other. I've never liked it. You know,
- 54:55Speaker 2: I notice disrespect to my guy there on the podcast.
- 54:58Speaker 2: You know, it's it's it's a fair question.
- 55:00Speaker 1: You know.
- 55:00Speaker 2: It's a lot of people kind of like engaging with
- 55:02Speaker 2: boxing that way, like a what if? But I could
- 55:05Speaker 2: have just wanted to get your opinion on I'll put
- 55:07Speaker 2: it this way.
- 55:07Speaker 3: I'll do you one better. I think the question should
- 55:09Speaker 3: be if you put those guys in this error, and
- 55:13Speaker 3: you put the guys in this era back then, who
- 55:15Speaker 3: would be better off? Right? So I think that'd be
- 55:18Speaker 3: a better one rather than saying who would fight? Who
- 55:21Speaker 3: would be better than who? Because I think there's certain
- 55:24Speaker 3: guys that would be very well in this error. I
- 55:26Speaker 3: think there's certain guys I wouldn't, so don't. I think
- 55:28Speaker 3: that's more fast thin ainty. Plus, with social media, with
- 55:31Speaker 3: everything going on, guys can stay focused in the seventies
- 55:34Speaker 3: and eighties, you think they say focus in this day
- 55:37Speaker 3: and age.
- 55:38Speaker 2: That's absolutely that's one hundred percenture. Then we'd catch you know,
- 55:41Speaker 2: all the guys I don't know stepping out on their wives,
- 55:44Speaker 2: the old timey boxers and doing drugs and all that
- 55:46Speaker 2: stuff on.
- 55:48Speaker 3: That's an eighteen year old Mike Tyson.
- 55:53Speaker 4: What avyweight championship belt? What Instagram and fifty million.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Dollars in BA No? No, absolutely not. That man is cooked.
- 56:00Speaker 3: Think about Mohamed Ali Cashius Clay at twenty two years
- 56:05Speaker 3: old with social media being the good looking.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Guy he was and the kind of guy he was.
- 56:10Speaker 3: That is that is? I like that?
- 56:12Speaker 2: That is the much better question. Someone asked me Tyson
- 56:15Speaker 2: versus Ali again, I'm gonna say no, let me ask
- 56:17Speaker 2: you how good would Ali be today in twenty twenty
- 56:20Speaker 2: five with a with a Twitter accountant?
- 56:23Speaker 3: Yeah? How would they? How would they react? How would
- 56:26Speaker 3: they how would they be? Because that's a whole everything
- 56:28Speaker 3: they have to worry about the stuff we had to
- 56:29Speaker 3: worry about in this day and age. That's why I
- 56:32Speaker 3: do get Floyd a lot of credit for being able
- 56:34Speaker 3: to stay focused because for a guy that everybody threw
- 56:37Speaker 3: a lot of stuff at, he didn't really let it
- 56:39Speaker 3: get to him outside of the first Maydonna fight. That
- 56:42Speaker 3: first fight, he was obviously going through something because that
- 56:45Speaker 3: fight was a lot closer and there was a personal
- 56:48Speaker 3: relationship issue with a female friend of his.
- 56:50Speaker 4: I believe that kind of many things interesting, but outside
- 56:53Speaker 4: of that, the focus.
- 56:54Speaker 3: Was always there. We've seen some other guys not be
- 56:57Speaker 3: focused and get dropped for a lot different reasons. So
- 57:00Speaker 3: I would be very fascinating if you have the guys
- 57:03Speaker 3: back then fighting today with all the stuff we got today,
- 57:06Speaker 3: whether it be better or worse.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Excellent, that's an excellent answer. Really always appreciate your insight
- 57:11Speaker 2: on the kind of thing. So with that said, you know,
- 57:14Speaker 2: check out my friends podcast Han Took Shots First. It's
- 57:17Speaker 2: a Star Wars related podcast. I was a guest again

- 57:32Speaker 2: where can people find you on social media?
