- 0:49Speaker 1: It is Old Willie Wednesday. Thank you for being with us.
- 0:55Speaker 3: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 1:03Speaker 3: Radiant Dentistry.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Coming up, we're going to hear from Mike Elko, Scott
- 1:21Speaker 1: Clendenin is here, and Mallory is here. And we have
- 1:26Speaker 1: NFL football tonight. Astros baseball is over on Willie. So
- 1:32Speaker 1: Ross Dellinger is reporting and John Talti report that the
- 1:38Speaker 1: SEC's federal court hearing that was scheduled for this afternoon
- 1:44Speaker 1: will be continued and scheduled at another date. Dellinger says
- 1:50Speaker 1: the hearing's continuance follows LSU's decision to finalize its football
- 1:56Speaker 1: roster without pro players. LSU President Wade Rouse and Greg
- 2:02Speaker 1: Sankey have held positive calls, according to Dellinger, as the
- 2:08Speaker 1: school makes efforts to de-escalate the situation. Apparently, they did
- 2:13Speaker 1: not want to get kicked out of the SEC. Rouse
- 2:18Speaker 1: sent a letter to Greg Sankey that said, allow this
- 2:24Speaker 1: letter to clear up allegations. He said, on the afternoon
- 2:29Speaker 1: of September 4th, I called and provided you with advance
- 2:32Speaker 1: notice that LSU would not place Daquan Ryder, Xavier, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: Harris on that football roster. This was confirmed when LSU
- 2:40Speaker 1: submitted its roster. On September 8th, that was yesterday, LSU
- 2:48Speaker 1: filled its two remaining roster spots with eligible student-athletes. The
- 2:53Speaker 1: roster is locked for the season. LSU complied with SEC rules.
- 2:59Speaker 1: This issue is moot. Also September 8th, I received notice
- 3:04Speaker 1: of the special presidents and chancellors meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
- 3:08Speaker 1: At no point has LSU ever threatened to upset the meeting.
- 3:13Speaker 1: To be clear, LSU will not challenge, disrupt, or seek
- 3:16Speaker 1: to cancel or postpone the meeting. This issue is moot. Meanwhile,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana blasted the SEC, saying the
- 3:29Speaker 1: conference's complaint is, quote, bone-deep down to the marrow stupid,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and that he and other members of Congress will be
- 3:38Speaker 1: on them like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Ha
- 3:43Speaker 1: ha ha ha! I've got rocks in my driveway smarter
- 3:49Speaker 1: than that. They're not going to throw LSU out of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the SEC. Let me tell you something. I and a
- 3:56Speaker 1: lot of other people in the United States Congress will
- 3:59Speaker 1: be on them like a hobo and a ham sandwich.
- 4:02Speaker 1: LSU hasn't done anything wrong. It's called court of law.
- 4:06Speaker 1: God made courts to decide disputes. Whether you agree with
- 4:11Speaker 1: what LSU did or disagree, we did the right thing
- 4:15Speaker 1: by going to court. We didn't just do stuff. We
- 4:19Speaker 1: went to court, and we're going to abide by the
- 4:22Speaker 1: court's decision. But they're not going to start all this
- 4:28Speaker 1: stuff again. That scheduled hearing for this afternoon has been postponed.
- 4:36Speaker 1: The NCAA is issuing new guidance to establish, quote, a
- 4:41Speaker 1: standard timing protocol that ensures consistency in the administration of
- 4:49Speaker 1: all college football games. By God, it's too late for
- 4:52Speaker 1: Western Michigan. ESPN obtained a copy of the memo from
- 4:57Speaker 1: the NCAA National Coordinator of Officials Ron Snodgrass. The official
- 5:04Speaker 1: time for all college football games is the time displayed
- 5:09Speaker 1: on the in-stadium game clock. When a replay review requires
- 5:16Speaker 1: time to be restored or otherwise adjusted, the replay official's
- 5:20Speaker 1: decision will be based on the embedded game clock contained
- 5:23Speaker 1: within the program feed. If the broadcaster is unable to
- 5:27Speaker 1: provide an embedded game clock, the replay official will use
- 5:30Speaker 1: the game clock graphic displayed as part of the broadcast feed.
- 5:34Speaker 1: This timing protocol should be followed consistently at all institutions
- 5:39Speaker 1: and game sites. If that had been in place, the
- 5:43Speaker 1: final score would have been Western Michigan 12 and Michigan 7.
- 5:50Speaker 1: The first Earl Tyler Cam... Earl.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week. is SMU
- 6:00Speaker 1: quarterback Kevin Jennings, who threw for 430 yards and three
- 6:05Speaker 1: touchdowns in the Mustangs' 27-24 win over Florida State Monday night.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The Texas Rangers, game and a half out of the
- 6:15Speaker 1: wild card, still two games behind the Astros. Tied at
- 6:20Speaker 1: one in the fourth inning in Seattle this afternoon, Jake
- 6:25Speaker 1: Berger has homered for the Rangers. who are 72 and
- 6:32Speaker 1: 73 and still scratching to get to the 500 mark. Okay, then.
- 6:42Speaker 1: There are 17 games left. There will be 16 games
- 6:47Speaker 1: after this afternoon. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News
- 6:52Speaker 1: says Josh Young and Nate Evaldi have both taken steps
- 6:55Speaker 1: in their recovery plans and could be available before the
- 7:00Speaker 1: end-of-the-week road trip. Young has been out since July 22nd
- 7:05Speaker 1: with a calf strained. He is in Round Rock. He
- 7:10Speaker 1: vaulted through 30-pitch, two-inning simulated game yesterday, was hitting 93-94,
- 7:18Speaker 1: which is in line with his average season velocity. He's
- 7:25Speaker 1: supposed to throw another one in Arizona on Friday. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. The Astros are in Philadelphia again
- 7:40Speaker 1: this afternoon. You can hear that game over on Willie.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And Hunter Brown is scheduled to throw for the Houston's.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Ben Shelton ended Carlos Alcarez's title reign at the U.S.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Open.
- 8:02Speaker 1: By winning a 4 hour and 28 minute match. That
- 8:05Speaker 1: ended at 2.33 this morning Texas time. 3.33 New York time.
- 8:08Speaker 5: 6-7.
- 8:08Speaker 6: 6-1.
- 8:08Speaker 7: 6-3.
- 8:08Speaker 8: 1-6.
- 8:09Speaker 5: And 10-7.
- 8:09Speaker 1: In a 5th set tiebreaker. The latest ending. of a
- 8:32Speaker 1: match in U.S. Open history. The first U.S. Open in
- 8:40Speaker 1: which multiple men's quarterfinals went to a fifth set tiebreak.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Shelton's third semifinal appearance. His second at the Open from
- 8:52Speaker 1: three years ago. His first career win over a top
- 8:55Speaker 1: three player. The first American to beat Alcarez at a major.
- 9:02Speaker 1: He had been 13-0 previously. That was an 18-match major
- 9:11Speaker 1: winning streak from Carlos Alcarez. And Shelton will next play
- 9:18Speaker 1: Francis Tiafoe. Big Foe had a 10-6 fifth set tiebreaker
- 9:26Speaker 1: win yesterday afternoon. It was quite a day. at the U.S.
- 9:32Speaker 9: Open.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Today, fourth-seeded Coco Gauff advanced to the women's semifinals 2-6.
- 9:43Speaker 4: 7-6, 6-2.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Earlier, Alayna Rabakina won in three sets and reached the
- 9:52Speaker 1: number one ranking. Tonight, actually, right now, two men are
- 10:01Speaker 1: playing who I've never heard of and tonight number one
- 10:07Speaker 1: seeds Zverev will take on somebody from Holland whose name
- 10:13Speaker 1: I can't pronounce and won't attempt to let's see The
- 10:20Speaker 1: PGA Tour of America announced today that the U.S. team
- 10:24Speaker 1: selection criteria for the Ryder Cup is changing. Maybe that
- 10:31Speaker 1: has something to do with them getting their rear ends beat.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Points will be awarded to all U.S. players across the
- 10:42Speaker 1: 31 events beginning January 18th. Point qualifications will conclude through
- 10:49Speaker 1: the BMW Championships next August. The top six eligible players
- 10:56Speaker 1: on the Ryder Cup points list following the BMW will
- 11:02Speaker 1: earn automatic selections. Jim Furyk will make six captain's picks.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So we'll see if that does anything for for the
- 11:14Speaker 1: Americans who have to go to Europe next September. And
- 11:22Speaker 1: Liv Goff announced it was filing for bankruptcy yesterday. We're
- 11:31Speaker 1: entering a process with a clear plan and the support
- 11:36Speaker 1: well-capitalized investors with deep experience in sports and entertainment, says
- 11:42Speaker 1: Liv Goff, CEO of Scott O'Neill, no one thinks it's
- 11:45Speaker 1: going to survive. John Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson all
- 11:53Speaker 1: have claims more than $ 5 million against Liv. Cam Smith,
- 12:01Speaker 1: Terrell Hatton, Bubba Watson are owed each more than $ 3 million.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I don't know how much they're going to see as
- 12:12Speaker 1: a result of this bankruptcy filing.
- 12:16Speaker 10: All right.
- 12:17Speaker 1: We're going to take a break. We're going to hear
- 12:19Speaker 1: from Mike Elko when we come back after this for

- 12:28Speaker 11: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 12:31Speaker 11: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 12:32Speaker 11: paying attention. It was their fault. And now you're left
- 12:35Speaker 11: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a

- 13:39Speaker 3: All those lonely, lonely times Maybe I didn't tell you.
- 13:52Speaker 14: That I'm so happy that you're mine Little things I
- 14:00Speaker 14: should have said and done.
- 14:05Speaker 7: I just never took the time.
- 14:11Speaker 15: But you were always on my mind.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You were always on my mind Thanks for being with
- 14:21Speaker 1: us on All Willie Wednesday. Tomorrow, our Clark Eisenhower outdoor edition. Also, tomorrow,
- 14:31Speaker 1: we'll have a high school report We're going to talk
- 14:34Speaker 1: college football tomorrow. We'll preview the game on Saturday morning.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And I'm not sure where we'll go from there. We
- 14:46Speaker 1: may do a little Texas-Ohio State preview. We may do
- 14:51Speaker 1: a little Lane Kiffin. We'll see how that works out tomorrow.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Okay.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Mike Elko. We heard part
- 15:04Speaker 1: of what he had to say on Monday. And here's
- 15:09Speaker 1: the rest.
- 15:11Speaker 16: Mike, where's your kind of comfort level with your two
- 15:14Speaker 16: true freshman running backs? And where are they kind of
- 15:17Speaker 16: at in critical situations? And where are they kind of
- 15:19Speaker 16: at with pass blocking and sort of the nuances of
- 15:23Speaker 16: the game where critical situations you might need them to deliver?
- 15:26Speaker 5: Yeah, we got a lot of confidence in them. I
- 15:29Speaker 5: think they're both really talented players. We certainly... create standards
- 15:33Speaker 5: for that room in terms of how to play the game,
- 15:35Speaker 5: how to get the extra yards, how to run behind
- 15:39Speaker 5: your pads, how to protect the football and how to
- 15:41Speaker 5: pass protect. That's all part of fundamentals of being a
- 15:44Speaker 5: running back at Texas A & M. You don't get
- 15:47Speaker 5: on the field if you can't do those things. They
- 15:50Speaker 5: work really hard at it and we're really excited about them.
- 15:53Speaker 16: How pleased were you with the tackling on Saturday and
- 15:56Speaker 16: how good do you think you guys can be in
- 15:57Speaker 16: that regard this season?
- 15:59Speaker 5: Yeah, again, I think those conclusions are tough because, again,
- 16:05Speaker 5: no disrespect to anybody, but certainly there are bigger challenges
- 16:09Speaker 5: coming down the chute. And so I think this week
- 16:12Speaker 5: will be a really, really good test for us. We're
- 16:15Speaker 5: going to play a really explosive offense run by some
- 16:18Speaker 5: really talented coordinators, and I think this will be a
- 16:22Speaker 5: big challenge for us to see where we're at on
- 16:24Speaker 5: a lot of those levels.
- 16:26Speaker 4: We'll go to the left, second row, Alex.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Hey Mike, with Friday being the 25th anniversary of 9-11,
- 16:31Speaker 6: I was just curious what your recollections were of that
- 16:33Speaker 6: day as someone who was in proximity to the attacks.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it still hits really close to home.
- 16:41Speaker 5: As a kid being from up there, who was working
- 16:44Speaker 5: up there, I was actually working at the Merchant Marine
- 16:46Speaker 5: Academy on 9-11, so I was right on the other
- 16:48Speaker 5: side of the water. I actually walked down to the
- 16:51Speaker 5: water and saw the city when the first plane hit,
- 16:54Speaker 5: and so So, yeah, a lot of memories, a lot
- 16:58Speaker 5: of feelings, a lot of emotions when that day rolls
- 17:00Speaker 5: around for me and people that I was close with
- 17:04Speaker 5: who were really affected in that event. And so, yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 5: it's a meaningful day for me.
- 17:09Speaker 6: I just wanted to ask you about your time at
- 17:11Speaker 6: Kings Point in general. How did you even end up
- 17:13Speaker 6: going there, and what did that year end up doing
- 17:16Speaker 6: for your coaching journey as you got started?
- 17:20Speaker 5: Like a lot of the jobs I got, they were
- 17:23Speaker 5: looking for somebody late and scrambling, and somehow somebody gave
- 17:27Speaker 5: them my name, and so they didn't have a lot
- 17:29Speaker 5: of options, and so they picked me. I think it
- 17:32Speaker 5: was my third year of coaching. I was the assistant
- 17:34Speaker 5: DB coach at Penn University, Our offensive coordinator at the time,
- 17:37Speaker 5: a guy named Andy Cohen, who recently passed away, had
- 17:41Speaker 5: worked there, knew the head coach really well, and they
- 17:43Speaker 5: were just looking for somebody to come run the defense.
- 17:45Speaker 5: He's got no experience, but he's a really bright young
- 17:50Speaker 5: coach if you want to give him a try. They
- 17:52Speaker 5: brought me out and they hired me. I think it
- 17:55Speaker 5: impacted me a lot because I learned a lot of
- 17:58Speaker 5: things that I needed to get better at as a
- 18:00Speaker 5: football coach as I was trying to lead a group
- 18:02Speaker 5: at 24 years old and had no idea what I
- 18:04Speaker 5: was doing.
- 18:05Speaker 10: We'll stay to the left, third row, Matthew.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Howdy, Coach.
- 18:09Speaker 6: Both Texas A & M and Arizona State have made
- 18:11Speaker 6: the college football playoff recently.
- 18:12Speaker 17: How much do you like having a non-conference opponent like
- 18:15Speaker 17: this that can give you a real measuring stick for
- 18:16Speaker 17: where the program is?
- 18:19Speaker 5: Which part are you asking? No, I'd like to win
- 18:22Speaker 5: every game, and so I don't want to play anybody
- 18:24Speaker 5: who's any good. But I think games like this are important.
- 18:27Speaker 5: I think they matter. I think they matter to our
- 18:28Speaker 5: fan base, you know, It's going to be a huge
- 18:33Speaker 5: challenge for us. I think this is a really, really
- 18:37Speaker 5: talented team, and I know a lot of people like
- 18:40Speaker 5: to look at logos and think logos mean things. They
- 18:43Speaker 5: really don't. This is a really talented team that's been
- 18:45Speaker 5: producing a lot of NFL players, has a bunch of
- 18:47Speaker 5: them on the field this weekend, and this will be
- 18:50Speaker 5: a really big challenge for us.
- 18:52Speaker 18: We'll go to the front row left, Tony.
- 18:54Speaker 17: Coach, obviously you spend every day as an evaluation process
- 18:57Speaker 17: from one season until now, but when you see them live,
- 19:00Speaker 17: you know, live bullets flying week one, how much stock
- 19:02Speaker 17: do you put in that, and does that kind of
- 19:04Speaker 17: change anything? Or I guess what did you learn about
- 19:07Speaker 17: your squad from playing in one game?
- 19:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's probably why I was very anxious
- 19:11Speaker 5: in the lead-in to get out there and do it
- 19:13Speaker 5: because as you go through this thing, you realize that
- 19:16Speaker 5: there's always a jump. When you go from, you know,
- 19:20Speaker 5: kids who haven't played together in real games, it's always
- 19:24Speaker 5: a little bit different the first time they do it.
- 19:26Speaker 5: And so we needed to figure out where the bar was.
- 19:29Speaker 5: We needed to figure out what people were really capable
- 19:32Speaker 5: of doing on the big stage with the big lights.
- 19:34Speaker 5: And then we needed them to get out there and
- 19:37Speaker 5: grow through some of those growing pains that I knew
- 19:39Speaker 5: were going to exist. And so, yeah, I think we
- 19:44Speaker 5: learned a lot about where we are and then what
- 19:46Speaker 5: we need to do to kind of get where we
- 19:48Speaker 5: want to go.
- 19:49Speaker 10: We'll stay to the left.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Fourth row, Tyler.
- 19:52Speaker 18: Mike, first I want to ask about Wilkin Formby. I
- 19:55Speaker 18: know he exited the game late. I don't know if
- 19:57Speaker 18: there was any status update on Wilkin.
- 20:00Speaker 5: No, he left when everybody left.
- 20:03Speaker 18: It just seemed like he went to the locker room.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Yeah, he's fine.
- 20:07Speaker 18: I know in the past you've gotten tired of talking
- 20:10Speaker 18: about penalties. Was there anything that concerned you in that
- 20:14Speaker 18: regard in the first game?
- 20:16Speaker 5: You're always concerned. I do think they were different. I
- 20:21Speaker 5: think last year we had a lot of really lazy
- 20:24Speaker 5: focus penalties. I didn't think that was the case. A
- 20:28Speaker 5: lot of them, in my opinion, were kind of on
- 20:31Speaker 5: the line. I thought Antos was on the line. I
- 20:33Speaker 5: thought Isaiah Hortons was on the line. Certainly felt like
- 20:37Speaker 5: the one they called on Bravian Rogers for blocking too
- 20:39Speaker 5: hard was on the line, you know, and not to
- 20:41Speaker 5: say they were bad calls. They just were not. I
- 20:44Speaker 5: didn't feel like they were egregious, lack of focus type penalties.
- 20:48Speaker 5: And so it felt a little bit different. You know,
- 20:52Speaker 5: obviously we can't continue to go eight for 75, but
- 20:55Speaker 5: it just felt a little bit different than it did
- 20:56Speaker 5: at times last year.
- 20:58Speaker 18: Go to the right front row, Travis.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Mike, I believe in 2019, you and Kenny went against
- 21:04Speaker 4: each other when he was at Auburn. You were here.
- 21:05Speaker 4: What do you remember about the game and maybe how his... Strategy,
- 21:11Speaker 4: his philosophies maybe have changed in what you've scouted.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I think both of us probably have changed a lot.
- 21:17Speaker 5: Certainly remember the game, remember what they did, remember how
- 21:20Speaker 5: they tried to attack us. I'm sure he remembers everything
- 21:23Speaker 5: we did on defense and why they tried to attack
- 21:25Speaker 5: us the way they did. But I think both of
- 21:29Speaker 5: us have grown and evolved schematically quite a bit since then.
- 21:32Speaker 5: And so I don't know how much that one is
- 21:35Speaker 5: going to be kind of on the radar for this one.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and kind of piggybacking off Alex, when you see
- 21:42Speaker 4: the red, white, and blue this weekend, is it going
- 21:45Speaker 4: to take you back to any memories or feelings that
- 21:47Speaker 4: you think you'll have from that?
- 21:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's– I don't mean this the wrong way,
- 21:52Speaker 5: but I think that day hits a little different to
- 21:55Speaker 5: people from up there. I just– you know, it's not
- 21:59Speaker 5: a memory that I like to bring back. It's not
- 22:01Speaker 5: something I like to think about. It's not something that–
- 22:05Speaker 5: It was an extremely tragic event for the people that
- 22:08Speaker 5: were up there. And again, I'm not trying to, so no,
- 22:11Speaker 5: it's not really a, probably be a little bit of
- 22:13Speaker 5: emotion when you see it more than anything else.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Which will go to the right, second row, Peter.
- 22:19Speaker 19: In his press conference today, Kenny praised Marcel and highlighted
- 22:23Speaker 19: his touch on the deep ball and in the intermediate
- 22:25Speaker 19: passing game.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Do you agree with that assessment? And also when you.
- 22:29Speaker 19: Have a guy who has that level of touch, Are
- 22:32Speaker 19: you then more critical after the fact about his ball
- 22:35Speaker 19: placement in the intermediate and long-term passing game?
- 22:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm very supportive of Marcel because I wish people
- 22:44Speaker 5: would spend more time studying him and watching him and
- 22:48Speaker 5: seeing how good he really is as he continues to
- 22:51Speaker 5: move up. the all-time passing record at Texas A & M,
- 22:55Speaker 5: and he starts to move past some quarterbacks who are
- 22:57Speaker 5: very successful quarterbacks here and viewed as very successful quarterbacks here.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I just, I wish people would start to appreciate who
- 23:06Speaker 5: he is, what he does, and how successful he's been
- 23:08Speaker 5: for us as a starter. You know, he's now 12-1
- 23:11Speaker 5: as a, regular season starter over the last two years.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I don't know what his overall record is, but it's
- 23:18Speaker 5: really good for a starting quarterback at Texas A & M.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I bet it ranks very favorably amongst the starting quarterbacks
- 23:23Speaker 5: at Texas A & M. I wish people would appreciate
- 23:26Speaker 5: who he is a little bit more for sure.
- 23:28Speaker 19: What's one aspect you wish people would appreciate more?
- 23:31Speaker 5: All of it. How good of a quarterback he is,
- 23:33Speaker 5: how much he helps us win football games, how successful
- 23:36Speaker 5: he's been, how many yards he throws for, how many
- 23:38Speaker 5: yards he runs for. Pretty much all of it.
- 23:42Speaker 19: And what challenges are you expecting from Arizona State, and
- 23:45Speaker 19: how can those challenges make your team better going forward?
- 23:48Speaker 5: I'm not worried about going forward. I'm worried about winning
- 23:51Speaker 5: this game. They're going to present a lot of challenges.
- 23:53Speaker 5: They've got a really talented defensive line. They've got two
- 23:56Speaker 5: NFL corners. They've got two NFL wideouts. They've got a
- 23:59Speaker 5: quarterback who's really big and talented. They're really aggressive on
- 24:02Speaker 5: special teams. The only thing I'm focused on is these
- 24:06Speaker 5: four quarters and whether or not we can figure out a.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Way to win a football game. To the left, second row, Alex.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Terry Price going into the Hall of Honor this week.
- 24:14Speaker 6: I just wanted to ask you what kind of his
- 24:17Speaker 6: lasting impact has been on you and just your program
- 24:20Speaker 6: as he's getting that honor this week.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 5: You know, obviously unbelievably unfortunate, his passing. I think we
- 24:26Speaker 5: still kind of feel that in this building. You know,
- 24:30Speaker 5: he was a guy that was beloved not only to
- 24:32Speaker 5: his family, but to Aggies, to certainly the people in
- 24:35Speaker 5: this building who worked with him and certainly was a
- 24:38Speaker 5: guy who took me in as a first-time SEC coach,
- 24:42Speaker 5: first-time Texas A & M coach, and showed me the
- 24:46Speaker 5: respect that I really appreciate because for as long as
- 24:49Speaker 5: he had been doing it and as good as he
- 24:52Speaker 5: had done it, he certainly had no reason to have
- 24:54Speaker 5: to pay attention to me or respect me the way
- 24:56Speaker 5: he did. And so I was always appreciative of TP,
- 24:59Speaker 5: the job he did, the work that he put into it,
- 25:01Speaker 5: the impact he had on not only his players, but
- 25:04Speaker 5: really all of our players on defense. And any way
- 25:07Speaker 5: that we can to to kind of continue his memory
- 25:10Speaker 5: and continue to keep him a part of people's thoughts
- 25:13Speaker 5: i think is really cool and so it's awesome that
- 25:14Speaker 5: he's getting nominated and put into the hall of fame
- 25:17Speaker 5: it was great to call his wife and let her
- 25:19Speaker 5: know that that was a really cool experience for me.
- 25:21Speaker 6: And just what's it meant to give devin a chance
- 25:23Speaker 6: to kind of start his coaching career with you.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Guys yeah i think probably separate conversations obviously devin's a
- 25:28Speaker 5: young kid and and um I think as he moves
- 25:31Speaker 5: into his coaching journey, I think he's still trying to
- 25:34Speaker 5: figure it all out for himself. We're real excited to
- 25:37Speaker 5: have him. He does a really, really good job for us.
- 25:39Speaker 5: He's really good in recruiting. He's really good working with
- 25:41Speaker 5: the players. Obviously, he's at that stage in his life
- 25:44Speaker 5: where he's doing a lot of work with the scout
- 25:45Speaker 5: team guys and those types of things. But I think
- 25:49Speaker 5: if this is what he ultimately wants to do for
- 25:50Speaker 5: a living, I think he's got a really, really bright
- 25:52Speaker 5: future in doing it.
- 25:53Speaker 16: Coach, we'll go all the way in the back to
- 25:55Speaker 16: the left, Nick.
- 25:56Speaker 20: Hey Mike, I'm just wondering big picture when you're looking
- 25:59Speaker 20: at an opponent that in their previous game was such
- 26:02Speaker 20: a lopsided. I think they scored 70 points at Morgan State.
- 26:04Speaker 20: Is it harder to evaluate film when you look at
- 26:07Speaker 20: that or is that you just see what.
- 26:08Speaker 1: They got already?
- 26:10Speaker 5: No, again, it's another one. I'm sure it's hard for
- 26:15Speaker 5: us to look at that film. I'm sure it's hard
- 26:16Speaker 5: for them to look at our film from last week.
- 26:19Speaker 5: it's another one where you're just relying on player tapes
- 26:22Speaker 5: um you know you're watching player tapes that are a
- 26:24Speaker 5: little bit of last week a lot a bit of
- 26:26Speaker 5: last year and um trying to trying to work your
- 26:29Speaker 5: way through personnel watching a lot of different colleges again
- 26:33Speaker 5: which is it seems like that's what you're doing nowadays
- 26:36Speaker 5: for probably the first three or four games of every
- 26:38Speaker 5: season and so um yeah you you draw what you
- 26:42Speaker 5: can from last week but we know it's a really
- 26:46Speaker 5: talented team, and certainly this environment, this venue, this stage,
- 26:50Speaker 5: this game, I think both teams will be a little
- 26:53Speaker 5: bit better on Saturday than they were last week.
- 26:55Speaker 20: Another one on Kenny, I'm just wondering, what have you
- 26:58Speaker 20: maybe seen in him? I mean, he was under 35
- 27:00Speaker 20: when he became a power conference head coach, won the
- 27:02Speaker 20: league under 35. Just what have you seen in him
- 27:04Speaker 20: and his sort of meteoric rise to being in the
- 27:06Speaker 20: position he is? Why do you think he was able
- 27:08Speaker 20: to do so?
- 27:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he's a really bright football guy. I
- 27:11Speaker 5: think he's got a great football mind. I think he's
- 27:13Speaker 5: got a really charismatic personality. I think people gravitate to him.
- 27:17Speaker 5: You could see it in how they play. I think
- 27:19Speaker 5: one of the things that just jumps out on tape
- 27:21Speaker 5: is how hard those kids play. That's usually a really
- 27:24Speaker 5: good sign of culture and leadership and what he demands
- 27:27Speaker 5: and the standard that he demands. For him to have
- 27:30Speaker 5: the success that he's had so quickly at Arizona State,
- 27:33Speaker 5: which was not a place that had been winning a
- 27:36Speaker 5: lot of football games before he got there, I think
- 27:39Speaker 5: that's always a testament to a guy as a coach
- 27:42Speaker 5: is when he's outdoing the standard at a program. I
- 27:45Speaker 5: think those guys, to me, are always a lot more impressive.
- 27:49Speaker 10: We'll go to the left.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Cease.
- 27:51Speaker 21: Getting back to Marcel, only had nine incompletions. How many
- 27:54Speaker 21: did you guys rate as drops? And the couple times
- 27:58Speaker 21: he did scramble, did he possibly make it a split
- 28:01Speaker 21: second in last year or just basically normal?
- 28:07Speaker 5: Yeah, there were two drops, a couple throwaways that I
- 28:11Speaker 5: thought were good throwaways, a couple balls that he wished
- 28:15Speaker 5: he would have thrown a little bit better, I'm sure.
- 28:18Speaker 5: couple decisions in the pocket where maybe wish the ball
- 28:20Speaker 5: would have gotten out a little bit quicker. A couple
- 28:24Speaker 5: times where he made things happen when really most quarterbacks
- 28:27Speaker 5: would have been sacked. And so, yeah, I thought there
- 28:30Speaker 5: was a lot of progress in him going through progressions
- 28:32Speaker 5: and reads. I thought there was a lot of progress
- 28:34Speaker 5: in the timing and how the ball came out of
- 28:37Speaker 5: his hands. Obviously, completing a very high percentage of his
- 28:40Speaker 5: passes was good. That was a big emphasis for him
- 28:43Speaker 5: and for us as we moved into this. I think
- 28:47Speaker 5: it was a really good performance for game one.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Go to the right, Carter.
- 28:52Speaker 16: Mike, we're talking to Tyree and Ray tomorrow. What interested
- 28:57Speaker 16: you and them out of the portal and how have
- 29:00Speaker 16: they lived up to your expectations so far?
- 29:04Speaker 5: To start with Tyree, it wasn't a ton of tape
- 29:10Speaker 5: But the tape that we saw, we thought was really impressive.
- 29:14Speaker 5: And to us, it's another one of those kids where
- 29:18Speaker 5: he was probably a lot higher on our board maybe
- 29:21Speaker 5: than your crew had him on our board. And so
- 29:25Speaker 5: amidst a lot of talented tackles that had come through here,
- 29:29Speaker 5: he was kind of the one that we really wanted.
- 29:33Speaker 5: And so we were really excited when we were able
- 29:34Speaker 5: to land him, and that was a choice by us.
- 29:37Speaker 5: And so um, in our eyes, we got the number
- 29:40Speaker 5: one guy that we coveted. And I think he's been
- 29:42Speaker 5: everything that we thought and hoped he would be. And, uh,
- 29:44Speaker 5: I think this program has impacted him in the way
- 29:46Speaker 5: that he would hope it would impact him. Um, Ray was,
- 29:50Speaker 5: you know, obviously we had to get an older guy, um,
- 29:52Speaker 5: you know, losing, um, Torian and losing Scooby. We needed
- 29:56Speaker 5: to make sure we got a veteran presence in there and,
- 29:59Speaker 5: Ray was a guy that we felt like was really explosive,
- 30:01Speaker 5: really powerful, made a ton of plays, obviously, and was
- 30:05Speaker 5: a really productive player at linebacker. Really just felt like
- 30:10Speaker 5: he had a game that would transition up to this level.
- 30:13Speaker 5: We've been really fortunate in that we've been pretty good
- 30:16Speaker 5: at making those decisions. I think we made another right
- 30:19Speaker 5: one with him. I think he's going to be a
- 30:20Speaker 5: really impactful player for us.
- 30:22Speaker 10: Stay to the right, Travis.
- 30:25Speaker 4: You mentioned a little bit earlier Ryan Henderson. What did
- 30:27Speaker 4: his preseason camp look like to kind of lead up
- 30:29Speaker 4: to maybe the performance that he had this past weekend?
- 30:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he's been really, really good. I think, again, we
- 30:35Speaker 5: talk a lot about depth and we're deeper at defensive
- 30:39Speaker 5: end than we've ever been in my time here. And
- 30:42Speaker 5: we have a lot of guys that are capable of
- 30:43Speaker 5: going out there and playing really good football. I think
- 30:46Speaker 5: it's an extremely competitive position to get snaps. And so
- 30:50Speaker 5: That's always the challenge is in order to give them
- 30:52Speaker 5: to somebody, you've got to take them away from somebody else.
- 30:55Speaker 5: But I think Ryan, he can play both sides. He
- 30:58Speaker 5: can play our end-to-end jack position. He's good in pass rush.
- 31:01Speaker 5: He can rush as a three technique at times if
- 31:03Speaker 5: we need to use him in that way. He's a really,
- 31:06Speaker 5: really talented player. And, again, another one of those guys
- 31:09Speaker 5: that I think we identified off a tape to be
- 31:12Speaker 5: maybe a little bit better than perception was, and I
- 31:15Speaker 5: think it's playing out that way.
- 31:17Speaker 4: We'll go back over to Alex, third row or second row, sorry.
- 31:20Speaker 10: Follow-up on Ray.
- 31:21Speaker 6: Was he wearing the green dot for you guys on
- 31:22Speaker 6: defense last week?
- 31:23Speaker 5: Yeah, he was.
- 31:24Speaker 6: And just why is he a guy that you guys
- 31:26Speaker 6: maybe trust to do that, and how does maybe his
- 31:28Speaker 6: past experience help him in that way?
- 31:31Speaker 5: I don't know that it's past experience. I just think
- 31:33Speaker 5: he plays Mike Linebacker, and I think it's a natural
- 31:36Speaker 5: fit to be able to talk to him and have
- 31:38Speaker 5: him be the communicator. And so I think it's probably
- 31:42Speaker 5: more the position than necessarily we identified him as the
- 31:46Speaker 5: right green dot type of guy, to be honest.
- 31:49Speaker 4: All right, anything else for Coach?
- 31:51Speaker 1: All right, that's Mike Elko. He was mentioning Tyree Adams'
- 31:57Speaker 1: left tackle. We will hear from him tomorrow on the program.
- 32:01Speaker 1: He went through a lot of stuff there, and we
- 32:05Speaker 1: will have time to mention some of that. Scott Clendenin
- 32:09Speaker 1: will be here. Mallory will be here. We go until
- 32:13Speaker 1: 6 until we've got NFL football tonight. Is that right
- 32:19Speaker 1: at 6, do you know, or we start at 6
- 32:21Speaker 1: with the NFL? Because I don't know when that starts.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I don't know who's playing. I don't really care who's playing.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Now the NFL is taking over Wednesday nights too. It's
- 32:33Speaker 1: not enough for them to have every other night of
- 32:35Speaker 1: the week. So I guess now they're going to be
- 32:38Speaker 1: doing Wednesday nights. I have no idea why there's a
- 32:41Speaker 1: Wednesday night game.
- 32:42Speaker 16: The Patriots are going to be playing the Seahawks at
- 32:45Speaker 16: 720 and coverage starts on Westwood.
- 32:46Speaker 1: What network is that? NBC. Okay. Do they have a
- 32:51Speaker 1: Sunday night game usually? What do they usually do? I
- 32:55Speaker 1: don't know. Do they have Sunday nights? Mm-hmm.
- 32:58Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 32:58Speaker 1: So now they're doing Wednesday and Sunday nights? Yes. Good gosh.
- 33:04Speaker 10: It's only this week that there's a Wednesday game.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Good.
- 33:05Speaker 10: Because it's a previous Super Bowl champion, and then tomorrow
- 33:09Speaker 10: they're out in a different country.
- 33:12Speaker 1: A different country. Australia. In Australia? Yeah. Holy crud. I
- 33:18Speaker 1: hope those are West Coast teams. Are those West Coast teams?
- 33:21Speaker 1: 49ers and Rams.
- 33:22Speaker 11: So, yeah.
- 33:22Speaker 19: Oh, my God.
- 33:25Speaker 1: This is too much. Subject Service Center, 22 at Longmire,
- 33:30Speaker 1: just down from the post office in College Station. Open
- 33:32Speaker 1: until 6 this evening. Open 7 to 6 through Friday
- 33:37Speaker 1: and Saturday 7 to 4. You know, if you're really.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Energetic. You can get up and be there when they
- 33:47Speaker 1: open Saturday morning and still get to the game in
- 33:50Speaker 1: plenty of time and to your tailgate and listen to
- 33:53Speaker 1: our pre-game show on the way. How about that? Seven
- 33:58Speaker 1: Checks has been taking care of family, automobiles, cars, trucks,
- 34:04Speaker 1: and before there were any SUVs well over 50 years ago.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Keep your family safe and secure and make sure your
- 34:12Speaker 1: car is running the way it's supposed to, especially if
- 34:14Speaker 1: you're traveling all over This part of the state covering
- 34:17Speaker 1: going to junior high and high school games, maybe roadies
- 34:21Speaker 1: for college games. I know there's a couple of you
- 34:24Speaker 1: that go see the Houston Oilers play and maybe even
- 34:28Speaker 1: the Cowboys. So just make sure when you get out
- 34:31Speaker 1: on the road, especially when it's 114 degrees, that your
- 34:34Speaker 1: car is ready to go. Pat does that every day
- 34:37Speaker 1: with his staff. It's Sebchak Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just
- 34:42Speaker 1: down from the post office in College Station.

- 36:28Speaker 14: Blue eyes cry in rain.
- 36:36Speaker 20: When we kissed.
- 36:39Speaker 14: Goodbye and parted I knew we'd never meet.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Again Thanks for being with us. It is All Willie Wednesday.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Appreciate you being here. The Big Ten Conference shared an
- 36:59Speaker 1: expansion of its plan to allow enhanced replay review insight.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Beginning this week, all football broadcasts from Big Ten venues
- 37:15Speaker 1: that include Big Ten replay and on-field officials will Are
- 37:20Speaker 1: there not going to be on-field officials at some Big
- 37:22Speaker 1: Ten games? We'll be able to feature live audio between
- 37:27Speaker 1: the game referee and replay official during reviews, alongside video
- 37:33Speaker 1: of the game footage being reviewed during the process and
- 37:36Speaker 1: a view of inside Big Ten Replay Center. In other words,
- 37:39Speaker 1: they're doing what the ACC has been doing, which I love.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I think everybody should do that. It is a terrific insight.
- 37:47Speaker 1: And I don't want to hear John Bible and the ACC.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I really love what they do. And I think the
- 37:59Speaker 1: Big Ten's been embarrassed. I hope they have for a
- 38:05Speaker 1: conference that considers themselves the best of maybe not having
- 38:14Speaker 1: such embarrassing situations as much. All conference games, all home
- 38:21Speaker 1: non-conference matchups officiated by Big Ten crews will have this insight.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And again, the ACC started this, I think, a year ago.
- 38:34Speaker 1: And it's cool what they do. Like I said, I'm
- 38:41Speaker 1: waiting for the SEC to do it. And I'm waiting for.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Let's see, Big 12 to do it.
- 38:51Speaker 10: Has Cody Campbell agreed to this yet?
- 38:53Speaker 1: I don't know if they've been through Cody yet. We'll
- 38:57Speaker 1: hear about it later. All right, we're going to take
- 38:59Speaker 1: a break. Scott is here. We've got stuff to talk about.

- 40:20Speaker 22: The Houston Astros were able to hold on for the
- 40:22Speaker 22: win last night despite five unanswered runs for the Phillies
- 40:25Speaker 22: that final score 6-5. Houston started strong offensively with a
- 40:29Speaker 22: four-run second inning thanks mostly to Christian Walker.
- 40:32Speaker 1: 1-1. And Walker drills it deep to left center field.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Back is Marsh.
- 40:37Speaker 10: Looking up.
- 40:38Speaker 1: See you later!
- 40:41Speaker 20: Christian Walker, a three-run homer.
- 40:44Speaker 10: And the Astros lead it 3-0.
- 40:47Speaker 22: Jeremy Pena and Cam Smith would extend the lead to
- 40:49Speaker 22: five runs by the fourth. The Phillies woke up in
- 40:52Speaker 22: the sixth with a pair of RBI swings and would
- 40:54Speaker 22: keep making it closer until making the score of a
- 40:57Speaker 22: one-run game in the bottom ninth. Josh Hader would put
- 41:00Speaker 22: out the fire for his 24th save of the season,
- 41:02Speaker 22: securing the win for Houston. Game two in Philly is
- 41:05Speaker 22: set for 540 tonight. With your Houston Astros report, I'm

- 43:55Speaker 1: to you every week by Chad Jones Law and Zwernemann Flooring.
- 44:02Speaker 1: You made your picks?
- 44:03Speaker 10: I made my picks.
- 44:03Speaker 1: That was quick.
- 44:04Speaker 10: Well, I mean... Mine were quick.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I've got to go back and rethink one.
- 44:09Speaker 7: I got it.
- 44:09Speaker 10: There's one I may rethink as well.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I should have gone back and rethought a couple last week,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and I was cute, and I paid for it.
- 44:20Speaker 10: Why did you pay for it?
- 44:22Speaker 1: I don't know why I picked how I did. I
- 44:25Speaker 1: just picked. Let's see.
- 44:30Speaker 10: I mean.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I don't know where to start.
- 44:32Speaker 10: Hang on. I just want.
- 44:35Speaker 22: I want.
- 44:36Speaker 5: What?
- 44:37Speaker 10: I'm trying to find your picks here.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Oh, they weren't very good.
- 44:41Speaker 10: But that doesn't mean I don't want to see what
- 44:44Speaker 10: your picks are.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I usually don't give away my picks. People can figure
- 44:50Speaker 1: it out.
- 44:50Speaker 10: I'm just going to look because I tied for last.
- 44:55Speaker 1: That's hard to do because that was a pretty good,
- 44:57Speaker 1: easy week, apparently, last week.
- 44:59Speaker 10: It was?
- 45:00Speaker 1: We had a 10-0 and about 9 million 9-1s.
- 45:02Speaker 10: And you and I didn't do that?
- 45:05Speaker 1: No, we did not do that.
- 45:06Speaker 10: I don't see you. Were you even in your contest
- 45:09Speaker 10: last week?
- 45:09Speaker 1: I was in my contest, yes. You're sure?
- 45:12Speaker 5: Yes.
- 45:13Speaker 10: How did you get right? Seven?
- 45:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 10: Well, everybody got seven.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 45:19Speaker 10: Except me. I can't even find you, Chip.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Let's start with Dabo. Dabo Dunn at Clemson? Yes. Yeah,
- 45:31Speaker 1: I think so, too. Can they find $ 53 million to
- 45:35Speaker 1: pay him off?
- 45:37Speaker 10: They better.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Or?
- 45:41Speaker 10: He's not leaving for free.
- 45:43Speaker 1: No, he's not going to leave for free. No question
- 45:46Speaker 1: about that. That's a lot of jack. $ 53 million. In
- 45:52Speaker 1: some circles.
- 45:53Speaker 10: Yeah. Well, it's not just $ 53 million. I imagine Chad
- 46:01Speaker 10: Morris got a pretty penny to come back, didn't he?
- 46:03Speaker 1: That was a bad hire.
- 46:06Speaker 10: Why would you say that?
- 46:07Speaker 1: It's a bad hire. But when you don't have a quarterback,
- 46:11Speaker 1: it's really hard to call an offensive place, too.
- 46:14Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 1: I mean, I've always liked Dabo. Dabo's got skins on
- 46:20Speaker 1: the wall. Dabo's been there. This is his 19th year,
- 46:24Speaker 1: I believe. Okay. He's won a lot of games at Clemson.
- 46:27Speaker 10: Yes, he has.
- 46:28Speaker 1: But we've said before, when you have a program that's
- 46:31Speaker 1: on top and it's sliding, there aren't many examples that
- 46:38Speaker 1: you can go back and say, yeah, but you know what?
- 46:43Speaker 1: He came back. He had a rough couple of years,
- 46:47Speaker 1: but he came back and turned it around. It just
- 46:50Speaker 1: doesn't happen very often. Right. And from the looks of things,
- 46:57Speaker 1: It ain't happening this year. And remember last year, Clemson
- 47:01Speaker 1: was like a top five choice in some, you know, somebody.
- 47:05Speaker 10: Until they lost by three to LSU.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Was that the opener last year?
- 47:09Speaker 10: Yes. And LSU went to number two or three because.
- 47:13Speaker 1: And that didn't last.
- 47:14Speaker 6: It didn't?
- 47:15Speaker 1: No.
- 47:15Speaker 10: They weren't that good?
- 47:16Speaker 1: No. Um, and Clemson, as it turned out, wasn't that good.
- 47:22Speaker 10: They won more games than LSU did.
- 47:23Speaker 5: They did.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Um, Was it Cade Klubnick? Was he there? He was
- 47:30Speaker 1: kind of a disappointment. But, again, how much of that–
- 47:34Speaker 1: you know, I watched Josh Hoover at Indiana this week,
- 47:36Speaker 1: and I was looking forward to seeing, can Signetti and
- 47:41Speaker 1: his staff do things that Sonny's staff couldn't do with
- 47:46Speaker 1: Josh Hoover? And the main thing I was looking at is,
- 47:51Speaker 1: will Josh Hoover complete more passes to his own guys–
- 47:55Speaker 1: Than to the other team's guys. Now, I realize they
- 47:58Speaker 1: weren't playing a great team. I get that part. Okay?
- 48:01Speaker 10: I still saw him throw into quadruple coverage.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Maybe so. And he's going to do that from time
- 48:05Speaker 1: to time.
- 48:06Speaker 7: Yes.
- 48:07Speaker 1: It went for a completion.
- 48:08Speaker 10: So, all that does is reward him.
- 48:11Speaker 1: He didn't have a pick. No, he didn't. Yeah, he
- 48:13Speaker 1: didn't turn it over.
- 48:14Speaker 10: No, he didn't.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Which... I don't think you can go to any game
- 48:18Speaker 1: last year, and I didn't look, that you can't say
- 48:21Speaker 1: he didn't have a turnover.
- 48:22Speaker 10: Well, Chip, he only averaged like. 9 turnovers per start.
- 48:25Speaker 10: So that means there were some starts where he had
- 48:28Speaker 10: zero that you don't remember, and there were some where
- 48:31Speaker 10: he had four that you can't ever.
- 48:34Speaker 1: What I remember is a couple of games where TCU
- 48:37Speaker 1: clearly was better but did not win because he threw
- 48:41Speaker 1: two picks or three picks or four picks, right? or
- 48:46Speaker 1: let teams back in the game after he'd thrown four
- 48:48Speaker 1: touchdowns and then comes back in the second half and
- 48:51Speaker 1: throws four picks. That's what I remember.
- 48:54Speaker 10: I don't think you get to throw four passes in
- 48:57Speaker 10: the second half in Indiana if you're up.
- 48:59Speaker 1: You may not. You may not.
- 49:03Speaker 10: But I thought he was better. I'm not going to
- 49:06Speaker 10: act like he wasn't.
- 49:08Speaker 1: He was better. And again, in fairness, maybe he'd been
- 49:12Speaker 1: better at TCU being a year older this year. I
- 49:14Speaker 1: don't know that. But he was better.
- 49:19Speaker 10: TCU's got a prickly coach?
- 49:21Speaker 1: He's pretty prickly. I was spectacle, as Tanya Harding would say,
- 49:27Speaker 1: about him being at Indiana. And replacing Mendoza is a really,
- 49:37Speaker 1: really tough thing to do. And to expect him to
- 49:40Speaker 1: be like that, I think, is outrageous. But after watching them,
- 49:47Speaker 1: you know, I think they're pretty good. You know, I
- 49:49Speaker 1: think they're going to be okay.
- 49:51Speaker 10: So the three Texas high school quarterbacks that year, Klubnick, Wegman,
- 49:59Speaker 10: and yours.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:01Speaker 10: Okay.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yep.
- 50:04Speaker 10: I don't know that the other two could be as
- 50:07Speaker 10: good for Houston as Wegman is being right now. I
- 50:11Speaker 10: think he's playing pretty good football and played pretty.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Good football last year. And did last year. He played
- 50:15Speaker 1: good football last year.
- 50:16Speaker 10: Yes.
- 50:17Speaker 1: But, you know, Quinn Ewers played good football, too.
- 50:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 50:20Speaker 1: He gets lots of criticism.
- 50:21Speaker 10: But he had a lot better team.
- 50:23Speaker 1: He had a better team around him.
- 50:24Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:25Speaker 10: But I thought Clemson should.
- 50:26Speaker 1: But he's in the NFL, and I'm not saying Wegman
- 50:28Speaker 1: won't be.
- 50:29Speaker 10: Well, Klubnick's in the NFL, too. I understand. I understand.
- 50:32Speaker 1: But he never quite reached that potential. And what you
- 50:37Speaker 1: think about is, hey, and apparently, again, Dabo had some
- 50:42Speaker 1: pros on last year's team. Watching this year's team.
- 50:45Speaker 4: It's like.
- 50:46Speaker 10: Did he try to get them back?
- 50:47Speaker 1: Boy, he needs to. Because watching this year's team, I
- 50:51Speaker 1: just didn't see the caliber of athlete we're used to
- 50:55Speaker 1: right Dabo having. And that speaks, I guess, to NIL, right?
- 51:00Speaker 1: And Transfer portals and some of the things Davos said
- 51:04Speaker 1: he wasn't going to do, although he did get transfers
- 51:07Speaker 1: in this year. You know, let's not say that he
- 51:09Speaker 1: didn't because he did. But apparently they weren't good enough.
- 51:15Speaker 1: But you might say the same thing about Florida State.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Florida State has– that running back's really good. He's the
- 51:24Speaker 1: guy that stood out. Cronman maybe. He's good, okay? But, man.
- 51:31Speaker 1: If you can't win a game when your opponent has
- 51:33Speaker 1: four turnovers, I don't know. I think Norvell is.
- 51:38Speaker 10: How about SMU's quarterback throws three touchdown passes and then
- 51:43Speaker 10: has four turnovers?
- 51:45Speaker 1: I don't think he had all four turnovers, by the way.
- 51:47Speaker 4: No.
- 51:48Speaker 1: He threw a pick in the end zone, which was horrible.
- 51:51Speaker 1: The coach who's trying to win the Heisman for him,
- 51:54Speaker 1: and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. He blamed
- 51:57Speaker 1: the receiver on going the wrong way on the Horrible
- 52:02Speaker 1: pass he threw in the end zone. And maybe he did.
- 52:04Speaker 1: You know, maybe he did. I do know that Jennings
- 52:09Speaker 1: has been turnover prone his whole career and has thrown
- 52:13Speaker 1: the ball up his whole career. Now, he's very talented.
- 52:16Speaker 1: He threw for 430 yards. A lot of people can't
- 52:20Speaker 1: do that against error. And I think– Air.
- 52:23Speaker 10: Doesn't hit him in the face like some of those
- 52:25Speaker 10: defensive linemen do.
- 52:26Speaker 1: When he gets– No doubt. But I think he's going
- 52:28Speaker 1: to win some football games. SMU didn't run the ball.
- 52:31Speaker 1: They're going to have to do that if they want
- 52:33Speaker 1: to get where they want to go. But, man, Florida State.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Remember when you used to turn on the TV and
- 52:38Speaker 1: watch all the athletes run around the field at Florida State?
- 52:41Speaker 10: And we were like, if they only had a quarterback. Well,
- 52:43Speaker 10: now I don't think– They don't have one.
- 52:46Speaker 1: They don't have a quarterback.
- 52:47Speaker 10: But I don't think that's the only thing holding him back.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Oh, it's not. Absolutely true. That's not the only thing.
- 52:53Speaker 1: But Ashton Daniels just isn't very good. Bottom line is,
- 52:56Speaker 1: he's just not very good. And I don't think Norvell
- 53:01Speaker 1: will last a season there. They've spent a lot of
- 53:04Speaker 1: money fixing that place up, right? They've redone the stadium.
- 53:08Speaker 1: They have a whole new players, you know.
- 53:10Speaker 10: Did the lights work in there?
- 53:12Speaker 1: Well, they didn't work. They probably should have put a
- 53:15Speaker 1: new transformer in when they.
- 53:16Speaker 10: Did all the work. You think that might have?
- 53:18Speaker 1: Could have.
- 53:19Speaker 10: Because you turn everything on on the old transformer?
- 53:22Speaker 1: Well, you would think they would have tested it, and
- 53:24Speaker 1: maybe they did.
- 53:25Speaker 10: Maybe they didn't have all the AC and the suites on.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'm still upset that I couldn't finish watching that game.
- 53:31Speaker 1: I had to tape the second half.
- 53:33Speaker 10: Because it was too late. Oh, no, I watched it.
- 53:34Speaker 1: You watched all of it? Yeah.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Wow.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 53:36Speaker 10: Well, no, I only watched the second half.
- 53:40Speaker 23: Okay.
- 53:40Speaker 7: Okay.
- 53:41Speaker 10: In total. Okay. Because I never knew when it was
- 53:43Speaker 10: going to start.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, no, I get that. I was there for
- 53:47Speaker 1: the start. I was watching tennis and some other things,
- 53:49Speaker 1: but I was there for the start. Did you stay
- 53:51Speaker 1: up for the tennis match this morning?
- 53:54Speaker 10: This morning?
- 53:55Speaker 1: It ended at 2.33 this morning.
- 53:57Speaker 5: Yes.
- 53:58Speaker 1: You stayed up?
- 53:58Speaker 5: No. Okay.
- 54:02Speaker 1: It was 3.30.
- 54:03Speaker 22: Eastern.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Eastern time.
- 54:05Speaker 10: When the morning show came on CBS's I Think They're
- 54:07Speaker 10: Still Playing, I was like, what did I miss?
- 54:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 54:13Speaker 10: But I just think that there are some teams there.
- 54:16Speaker 10: And I'm not going to run down SMU. I think
- 54:19Speaker 10: SMU has been good when they've been in the ACC.
- 54:22Speaker 10: I'm not going to act like they aren't. But now
- 54:27Speaker 10: that I have a little more faith in Miami's coach
- 54:32Speaker 10: than I had before last year, I don't think there's
- 54:36Speaker 10: anybody in the ACC that is going to seriously threaten Miami.
- 54:40Speaker 1: I'm with you. I don't think there is either. They
- 54:42Speaker 1: were really, really good. They looked really good.
- 54:46Speaker 10: And they've got all that talent.
- 54:48Speaker 1: They have talent. And the fact that I... They may,
- 54:52Speaker 1: and I thought I was the only one thinking like this,
- 54:55Speaker 1: but I read several other people online today that follow
- 54:57Speaker 1: college football. They may have the Heisman Trophy winner this year.
- 55:04Speaker 1: But it could be that the quarterback and the receiver
- 55:07Speaker 1: kind of cancel each other out.
- 55:09Speaker 10: So then the running back will get it.
- 55:11Speaker 5: No.
- 55:11Speaker 1: The running back's good, too.
- 55:13Speaker 10: But he was not very good this weekend.
- 55:14Speaker 1: He wasn't.
- 55:14Speaker 10: And you didn't even miss him.
- 55:16Speaker 1: You didn't miss him because the other kid is just
- 55:19Speaker 1: lights out. And to think that, and I mentioned this Monday,
- 55:22Speaker 1: but A & M did what they did to him
- 55:24Speaker 1: in December. That was impressive. After watching this kid even more,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and I watched them all last year. Right. But that's impressive.
- 55:33Speaker 10: No, A & M and Indiana were the only two
- 55:36Speaker 10: teams that held him down.
- 55:38Speaker 9: Yes.
- 55:38Speaker 10: In the playoffs. No one else even came close.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Well, you know who has held the only team that's
- 55:43Speaker 1: held Jeremiah Smith down?
- 55:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:45Speaker 1: That's the Longhorns. He's done nothing against him. Now he
- 55:49Speaker 1: hasn't had to.
- 55:50Speaker 10: Well, that's going to continue this weekend.
- 55:52Speaker 15: I don't know.
- 55:53Speaker 7: We'll see.
- 55:53Speaker 1: We'll talk about it.
- 55:54Speaker 10: Let's talk about that.
