• 0:08
Speaker 1: are being urgently contacted after lollies containing potentially lethal doses
• 0:13
Speaker 1: of methan fhetamine were sent out in food parcels by

• 0:28
Speaker 1: This is really worrying. Have you ever seen anything like
• 0:32
Speaker 1: this before, meth and lollies?
• 0:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, look at us worrying. A lot of the criminal
• 0:38
Speaker 2: gangs that smuggle drugs will use different techniques to try
• 0:41
Speaker 2: and get mes across the border. That it's often suspended
• 0:43
Speaker 2: in liquids and it can often be in pill form
• 0:46
Speaker 2: as well, disguised as lollies. It's not unknown, but it's
• 0:50
  Speaker 2: not overly common.
• 0:52
Speaker 1: It's just the tip. Could it be the tip of
• 0:54
Speaker 1: the iceberg? Given how much myth is being imported. I
• 0:57
Speaker 1: looked up that it's about almost two in twenty twenty
• 1:01
Speaker 1: two of meth that was caught coming into New Zealand,
• 1:04
Speaker 1: and then you think about that it'd be a fraction
• 1:06
Speaker 1: of what's what's actually coming in, and it's obviously coming
• 1:08
Speaker 1: in all different forms.
• 1:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's through a charge of the authorities. I
• 1:13
Speaker 2: guess is they know what they're catching, they don't know
• 1:15
Speaker 2: what they're not getting. They don't know what's getting across
• 1:17
Speaker 2: the border and not being detected to the OSBERG. Potentially
• 1:21
Speaker 2: it is. You know, we often attend intentional conferences around
• 1:24
Speaker 2: drugs and drugs smuggling in the States. Now they're starting
• 1:27
Speaker 2: to see more what they call meth conversion labs, or
• 1:31
Speaker 2: converting myth from liquid or solid form back into its
• 1:36
Speaker 2: original form. See more of those labs than they actually
• 1:39
Speaker 2: baking or cooking labs these days.
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Because that we used to have meth labs didn't when
• 1:44
Speaker 1: you'd hear about them blowing up and stuff and there'd
• 1:46
Speaker 1: be raids. You don't hear so much about them anymore.
• 1:49
Speaker 1: So they're conversion labs. That sounds frightening.
• 1:54
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I look. The conversion labs really are to
• 1:57
Speaker 2: get the lab from its form of a suspended in
• 1:59
Speaker 2: liquid or if it's an a pill form back to
• 2:03
Speaker 2: a usual mess that they can then sell on the streets.
• 2:05
Speaker 2: And they use that through different are using different effort,
• 2:08
Speaker 2: efforts and chemical techniques to be able to get the
• 2:11
Speaker 2: mess back to its normal form.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Where does it come from?
• 2:16
Speaker 2: Internationally, it comes from all over the place. Mexico is
• 2:18
Speaker 2: a big supply of methamphetaming. Also it comes from North
• 2:23
Speaker 2: America through Mexico, China and anywhere where a lad can
• 2:28
Speaker 2: be created and at large scale to make the mess.
• 2:31
Speaker 2: It will certainly make its way to New Zealand because
• 2:32
Speaker 2: we as a country, we like meth and we pay
• 2:35
Speaker 2: a decent amount on the global market.
