• 1:45
Okay. Now that the housekeeping is over, what have you been up to? Well It's a Monday, so It's a Monday.
• 1:51
Speaker 4: Weekend was good. What did What did I do? A lot of nothing. I walked around the city because it was clearly Kim said it's October, but yesterday was 70 degrees. So it was fabulous and I took a walk in my neighborhood, which by the way, the Wall Street Journal says the Upper East Side now is very cool.
• 2:11
This is the second article in a week that they've been pushing the Upper East Side. So that's it's a very funny
• 2:16
Speaker 3: thing. Well, so many on the trends.
• 2:20
Speaker 4: Yeah. I think so many new restaurants and cute little places are opening in the Upper East Side. It's become what they said was the Upper East Side is now what the West Village used to be, which is so
• 2:31
Speaker 3: about that. But also my thing is, like, if if newspapers are reporting on, oh, this is a cool neighborhood, isn't it already not cool? Well, I don't know.
• 2:39
Speaker 4: I think it's it became they're also saying it's from Lexington Avenue. For those who, don't know anything about New York, Central Park is sort of the middle of a city and the, to the left, of Central Park is the West Side and that goes to the Hudson River and to the, east is the East River. And what they're saying is not from Lexington over, which is like middle of the, East Side, it's very young, because we've gotten a tremendous spurt of new beautiful buildings, some rentals, some condos in that area. It's really, I don't know if all of a sudden they just sprouted up out of nowhere. A lot of the little old, what would you call those mom and pop stores just gave away.
• 3:28
They couldn't pay their rents and developers came in as about two, three years ago and they built these beautiful buildings and they all have gyms and basketball courts and places for young families to take their
• 3:41
Speaker 3: Those kids buildings play expensive, the amenity buildings. It's not like like, I don't know if the young people moving up are all going to the amenity
• 3:46
Speaker 4: Why young families are? Because I think what they were saying in this article, even though they're expensive, it's less expensive than being downtown. So it's if for whatever reason, you know, the downtown area just went out of sight. So it's it was an interesting article. I read that this morning.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: You know, it's crazy, though. Like, as you're talking about the geography of the city, like, was talking to my friends about this. A lot of them don't know the avenues by heart.
• 4:13
Speaker 4: Well, if you live in New York for more than five minutes, you should know the avenue.
• 4:16
Speaker 3: But for example, like my friends who live on
• 4:19
Speaker 4: the East Side, they didn't know the avenues on the Upper West Side. Well, you know what? You know them. Maybe you're not as fluent with them. I mean, maybe they didn't grow up in New York.
• 4:28
  I mean, if you Yeah.
• 4:29
Speaker 3: If you if you didn't grow up in New
• 4:30
Speaker 4: York or even I can understand that.
• 4:31
Speaker 3: But, like, sometimes I even I know, you know, that
• 4:34
  Speaker 4: You know neighborhoods.
• 4:35
Speaker 3: Amsterdam is an avenue on the Upper West Side, but I don't know the
• 4:38
Speaker 4: order sometimes. Okay. Well, you know what? Look on your phone.
• 4:41
Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm not saying I'm gonna be lost.
• 4:43
Speaker 4: That's the issue. Now nobody has to know because you just go on your phone and it tells you where to go. But what I was gonna say is yesterday was 70 some odd degrees, so I started out in a little down jacket early in the morning. I went out to go to the market and then by 11:00 it was 70 degrees, so then I just wore a light sweater. And I had, lunch.
• 5:04
I decided to go myself, take a walk, and I had lunch on a bench in front of Butterfield Market. For those who don't know what Butterfield Market is, that's an establishment.
• 5:16
  Speaker 3: That's a weird reservation.
• 5:17
Speaker 4: Exactly. It was a little after one, so maybe people had already had their lunch. But I decided I wanted to try that yogurt that everybody loves. And as a matter of fact, you were raving about it at the place in the Hamptons. They have it as well.
• 5:34
  I don't know
• 5:34
Speaker 3: if it's General Store has the yogurt from Butterfield.
• 5:37
  Speaker 4: From forty four Carats. I think it's from Bloomingdale's. I think it's from Bloomingdale's, basically.
• 5:41
Speaker 3: Wait. But forty carats is not the same as Butterfield. It's not forty four, it's 40.
• 5:45
Speaker 4: 40? I think it is the same mix. Well, whatever this is, Butterfield was so I asked for a small. The small
• 5:53
Speaker 3: I know why It's a people large get kids. That's Well, don't know if they do it, but like most places like I went to Salt and Straw the other day, which is an ice cream place downtown. Kid I got size because that was like
• 6:04
Speaker 4: a normal scoop. Exactly. I said okay, I'll have a vanilla and chocolate twist And they came out in a cup that it could have fed three people. Yeah. Which I thought was wasteful actually because nobody could realize.
• 6:18
Was thinking finish it. Oh, couldn't. I ate half of it, and then I was gonna go back and get the top and maybe put it in the freezer, but I don't know if you can refreeze that. Yeah, think so. You can?
• 6:30
Speaker 3: I don't think it'll do it. It's the soft serve. Think I'll put differently.
• 6:35
Speaker 4: You could leave it out, but I wasn't sure it could spoil. No, I mean you could leave it out after you put it in the freezer when you took it back out. I'm gonna try it because it really was delicious, but now I'm gonna ask them if they have a kid size. But it was delicious, I did that. Who wants to talk about how pretty your new glasses are?
• 6:51
Speaker 3: Oh, thanks. You know what? When I was I didn't know if you would like them and be like, why are you wearing glasses out of the house?
• 6:58
Speaker 4: Wear glasses out of the house, but you normally don't.
• 7:00
Speaker 3: I normally wear my contacts, but now I feel like more it's like kind of a edgy editor in chief kind of look that I'm I going think you And they're from Kate. They did an all over people's collab. This isn't an ad.
• 7:13
Speaker 4: But aren't those prescription?
• 7:14
  Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
• 7:15
  Speaker 4: Yeah. Okay.
• 7:16
Speaker 3: I put my own
• 7:18
  Speaker 4: prescription That's prescription.
• 7:19
Speaker 3: Lenses in it. But I kind of like wearing them out when I feel like it Okay. Sometimes I feel not little like dizzy, but like everything's I don't feel as present when I'm wearing my glasses though.
• 7:35
Speaker 4: Do you feel that?
• 7:36
  Speaker 3: Well, you don't
• 7:36
  Speaker 1: have to I
• 7:36
  Speaker 3: don't wear
• 7:37
Speaker 4: I'm not wear I can't see at all.
• 7:38
  Speaker 3: Like for example
• 7:39
Speaker 4: So forget it. Anybody who's watching us, that that cataract thing has thrown me off. It's already a month. I can't see. I can't see out of the left.
• 7:47
Don't know what I'm doing. Are you complaining? I am complaining because this was a procedure that was not necessary and I'm just gonna shout out there, if you don't need to do things, don't do it. I I did it because they said, well, you're gonna eventually need it. Do it now.
• 8:04
  That's baloney.
• 8:06
Speaker 3: Don't do I could do a 100 podcasts on that. As people might know, I got neck surgery twice, and I really
• 8:12
Speaker 4: wish The first it one was not necessary. It wasn't an emergency.
• 8:15
  Speaker 3: No. If you
• 8:16
Speaker 4: have to do something, absolutely you have to do it.
• 8:19
Speaker 3: Because more times out of naught, it seems, at least in our family
• 8:23
  Speaker 4: In our family.
• 8:23
Speaker 3: You get more issues
• 8:24
Speaker 4: you can started with. Exactly.
• 8:26
Speaker 3: And it could really change your life versus something that was annoying before. Now you have things that
• 8:31
Speaker 4: That you really have to attend to.
• 8:32
  Speaker 3: Right. Yeah.
• 8:33
Speaker 4: I know. So I'm just saying, all right, continue. I do like the glasses. Thank you. A That whole tirade medicine and everything else.
• 8:43
Speaker 3: Did you just compliment me on my glasses because you wanted to talk about your cataracts?
• 8:46
Speaker 4: No. It just seems to go into every conversation lately that I have. Yeah. Because I literally am putting drops in 20 fourseven.
• 8:54
Speaker 3: Okay. Well, my weekend, thanks for asking, was fine. Well, it
• 9:00
Speaker 4: was better than mine.
• 9:01
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I don't know. It was pretty low key. Friday night, told you I went to my friend's housewarming. Right.
• 9:06
I mean, it was only a few
• 9:07
Speaker 4: people, but You said she cooked, And which is
• 9:10
Speaker 3: I hadn't met her boyfriend since the day that they met. Oh. So it's been like years.
• 9:15
Speaker 4: Oh, okay. And she's one
• 9:16
Speaker 3: of my best friends. So that was that was kinda crazy. So that was like a chill night. It's yeah. It was a nice weather weekend.
• 9:23
Like, I Saturday night, went to three parties.
• 9:26
Speaker 4: Oh my oh, right. Right. Well, one was a costume you said you were Yeah. But I
• 9:30
Speaker 3: didn't go in costume.
• 9:31
  Speaker 4: Oh, no.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: Okay. Because then I would have had to show up to the other one. Oh, so I didn't tell you this. So the first one was my friend Alexa, her stepsister got engaged. So I crashed the engagement party.
• 9:43
Speaker 4: Oh, this was an engagement party? Yeah. Oh my gosh.
• 9:46
Speaker 3: But she it was an open thing and I I know her. So Right. So we did that. And then Alexa was like, okay. Now let's go to my friend's thirtieth birthday.
• 9:55
I like crashing all these milestones. I thought they were just parties. Right. So I was like, alright. At it's at her apartment.
• 10:00
We pull up. I'm like, oh my god. It's Matt my brother. It's Matthew's apartment building.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: Oh, for heaven's sakes. Everything's going down and where your relatives are. Very So
• 10:09
Speaker 3: that was funny. I texted him, but he wasn't home. Right. So I was only there for a little bit. And then I went to the third party where my friend Lily was at, and that was like a really good spa it was an apartment also, but it was giant.
• 10:23
Okay. So it was a great, like, party space.
• 10:25
Speaker 4: In the in the person's apartment or in the building
• 10:28
Speaker 3: In the person's apartment. Okay. And it was, like, all windows and stuff. And I didn't go in theme, but some people were wearing, like, wings and whatever else. I felt like I had something to say on that.
• 10:40
  But
• 10:41
Speaker 4: I'm sure that was lovely. Did Alexa go with you to that party or did this
• 10:45
Speaker 3: one She stayed at the
• 10:46
Speaker 4: other one. Three parties in one night, Kim.
• 10:48
Speaker 3: I know. But I was still home by a reasonable time.
• 10:50
Speaker 4: By eight. No. No. You're with me.
• 10:53
  Speaker 3: You'd
• 10:53
Speaker 4: be home at three parties. Oh, we're home already at 08:00.
• 10:56
Speaker 3: That would have been nice. No. I've probably not, like a little before midnight, which is like Okay.
• 11:00
Speaker 4: Pretty good. That's pretty good.
• 11:01
Speaker 3: Yeah. So that was what I did. And then Sunday, I went to a matinee. I saw the show Liberation. And then before that, I walked around a little bit because I was like, I'm on a for fall things for the apartment.
• 11:18
Like, I would love a few little accessories to make it feel Wait, like pumpkin. Because I love October. Okay. I didn't get real pumpkins yet. I think I want to get a few
• 11:25
Speaker 4: But don't get them too early because they start to get soggy.
• 11:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, true. I think it'll be Halloween.
• 11:31
Speaker 4: Well, that's next week, right? You could get it towards this weekend. Yeah, it's in the thirty first.
• 11:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my gosh.
• 11:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, I got candy yesterday. Oh, I did go to the market and get all the supplies because we have a lot of young I
• 11:44
  Speaker 3: have Mhmm.
• 11:44
Speaker 4: Young neighbors. Mhmm. So I always like to put the bowl out for the kids, and I like to see their outfits. But I think you can buy the pumpkin this weekend. Okay.
• 11:52
  But I
• 11:52
Speaker 3: got some other stuff, like a candle and some other stuff that I want you to see when you come over. Alright. And then it was great last night. I like lit the pumpkin candle. I have like I've baked pumpkin cookies.
• 12:03
Oh my gosh. And I watched Wednesday on Netflix, you know, about the Addams Family. And I was like, this is perfect spooky season. I'm so cozy and this is great.
• 12:11
Speaker 4: Okay. Well, that was fun.
• 12:12
Speaker 3: Yes. What is, like, the fall vibe and aesthetic mean to you?
• 12:16
Speaker 4: Well, I first of all, it's apple picking. I love you know, when when I was younger and well, kids were little I haven't done it in a while, but your uncle did it this, a couple of weeks ago and brought me some apples. I tell you the truth, they weren't so good. They weren't as crisp as I remember. I think it's maybe the season didn't get cold enough quickly.
• 12:36
I think the apples react to the change in weather about whether they're crispy or not.
• 12:41
Speaker 3: You know, for all girls who love fall and the pumpkin spice lattes and the apple picking and that call like, crisp weather, they should know now to be climate activists because we don't want global warming to happen because then you can't do apple picking and all your stuff. If you want, like, a cozy October night, what do you do?
• 12:59
Speaker 4: I get under my quilt. In my in my Special quilt? No. I have a fluffy down quilt. I but I haven't changed my my linens yet, my my quilt.
• 13:10
I have a lightweight quilt that I'm still on because at 70 degrees, yesterday, I definitely didn't need a quilt. But as soon as I think soon as the the the evenings go below 40, I have a big down quilt that I put at the end
• 13:24
Speaker 3: of the I always have a down
• 13:25
Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't like that, but you keep your air conditioning on, and I don't have that kind of system in my apartment, which I regret. So, you know, it's not that cold in my apartment yet, so I'm not doing it. But soon, and I keep taking out different jackets. That I have to say.
• 13:44
Friday night I wore a coat because it was a little chilly at night.
• 13:48
Speaker 3: I know it's hard to know.
• 13:49
Speaker 4: It's hard to know. Saturday got warmer, so we don't know where we are. Today I'm wearing a little short jacket and I'm too warm actually. So this is perfect sickness weather. Did take my flu shot and so did you, I recommend I everybody should do was fine.
• 14:06
My arm was a little Yeah, sore for two two days. I took a time.
• 14:09
Speaker 3: So when you're getting cozy, you're under the quilt, what's on the TV?
• 14:13
Speaker 4: Well, you know it's always a murder.
• 14:14
Speaker 3: Okay, you don't do something like fall specific?
• 14:16
Speaker 4: No. No, because I don't really care about the seasons.
• 14:21
  Speaker 3: The seasons don't That's motivate why you're a Florida girl.
• 14:23
Speaker 4: Right, the seasons don't motivate me to do anything except change my outerwear.
• 14:27
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, the fashion.
• 14:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, I tend to wear, I mean, put all the light clothes away. Well, no. Wear more darker clothes in the fall. I don't wear the light colors anymore, so I put those away or sent them down south because I'm going very soon. And I put the darker sweaters on and the darker pants.
• 14:46
  Yeah.
• 14:47
Speaker 3: I like a fall movie. Like, Harry Met Sally Oh,
• 14:51
  Speaker 4: well, that's
• 14:51
Speaker 3: true. You've Got Mail. Like, I wanna see New York in the fall on my screen and then feel it in my soul.
• 14:57
Speaker 4: But those are so old, Kim, that people Well, there's no modern equivalent. I know that.
• 15:02
  Speaker 3: That's
• 15:02
Speaker 4: So the that's why you're going backwards in time. A lot of, you know, what you love to do. Yeah. I'm, I'm right now I'm watching a very interesting political Danish series on Netflix called and she becomes a prime minister, but it's more about- It's cozy. It's not cozy.
• 15:28
It's very interesting because it shows you how the conflict and she's the prime minister, the first woman prime minister of a country, you know, Denmark, and they're showing all the problems. She has two children, the husband has taken a backseat in his career. Now I'm up to season three, they're getting divorced because he
• 15:47
Speaker 3: couldn't Wait, what take about if people haven't seen the show and they're Don't spoiling season worry
• 15:52
Speaker 4: about it, it's all gonna get together. We have a lot of things to go, I'm sure they're gonna get back together. But it's been very interesting, but it's also, it makes you think that all it's very hard because we're always talking about women and the workplace. It doesn't matter. You think it's going to be all right, but somehow it all gets messed up when egos get involved and jobs get involved and one person in the relationship is more done.
• 16:17
We haven't solved these issues. No, we haven't. We haven't. And we talk about it often. I don't know if there is a solution cause nothing is ever fiftyfifty.
• 16:26
So I think you have to go in. They had a five year contract that one would step back for the other's career. And I think that's a very interesting concept, but what happens, it went over the five years and she's You now can't it was very hard. Was very
• 16:42
  Speaker 3: In that way.
• 16:43
  Speaker 4: I know. It's very hard.
• 16:44
Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. Here's my Halloween movie recommendations. We're gonna do a whole Halloween episode next week. Right.
• 16:51
  So don't
• 16:52
Speaker 4: give it away. Of Halloween. But if a teaser.
• 16:55
Speaker 3: If you wanna start getting in the movie. Okay. They're all kinda nostalgic. Halloweentown, which was like on Disney and Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler. You've seen that in
• 17:05
  Speaker 4: Sarah Jessica's Yes. I've seen it. It's a million years
• 17:07
Speaker 3: old. Twitches, which like was with the twins, Ghostbusters. Oh, that was good. And then get Halloween candy, make like chili or something warm. Right.
• 17:20
  That's a perfect Halloween movie.
• 17:22
Speaker 4: Yeah. That is fun.
• 17:22
Speaker 3: In my opinion. Yeah. That's fun. I also think when I was going on my hunt to find like fall things for the apartment, besides pumpkins and a pumpkin type candle, I feel like getting like an amber vase or something like that could
• 17:38
Speaker 4: be Well, that goes with your takeover.
• 17:39
Speaker 3: Vibes. Yeah. Yeah. But it's kind of a neutral.
• 17:42
Speaker 4: Cranberry juice. Put cranberries and nuts out.
• 17:45
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 17:45
Speaker 4: It's very funny. Leave it out.
• 17:47
  Speaker 3: It's kinda gross.
• 17:48
Speaker 4: Why? Leave food out? Well, could leave, I guess.
• 17:51
Speaker 3: If I did that, mom would come over and be like, you're gonna get rats.
• 17:54
Speaker 4: Oh, your mother your mother is a germaphobic, so I mean but I never wouldn't even think about it. But alright. You don't actually do that anymore because people put their fingers in the balls. Forget it. My bad suggestion.
• 18:05
  Suggestion. Nobody listened to it.
• 18:07
Speaker 3: Do you like pumpkin spice?
• 18:10
Speaker 4: Not really. Remember we had Starbucks pumpkin spice I don't really love it. It's a little You liked
• 18:16
Speaker 3: the almond or the, what is it, pecan water?
• 18:20
Speaker 4: Yeah. But they're too sweet. I mean, I could drink it in small doses, but I think it's a little too sweet. It depends on the place making it. And I also like just plain the hazelnut.
• 18:30
Not hazelnut, the yeah. The hazelnut coffee flavor.
• 18:34
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 18:34
Speaker 4: Yeah. Just the regular one without any extra added things. Yeah. I'm not big on on fall foods. I Oh, don't
• 18:42
Speaker 3: that's my favorite Okay. Type of food. That's another reason I love fall. And I don't know. Sometimes I was thinking about, like, is it my is it a Jewish thing to, like, like No.
• 18:51
Wait. Hold on. To, like, like, dates and, like, dried fruits?
• 18:55
Speaker 4: No. I think well, it's Middle Eastern.
• 18:57
Speaker 3: Because I sometimes I wonder what I like, like, foods that I like. I'm like, does it date back in time?
• 19:03
Speaker 4: Well, thousands of years ago when they were when they were leaving the holy land maybe in there.
• 19:08
Speaker 3: Because the foods that I seem to like the most are like and Zach makes fun of me because I'm all like, if something is dates on the menu,
• 19:15
Speaker 4: I'm getting are delicious. I'm getting it. They are dates and figs
• 19:18
Speaker 3: are delicious. Figs. Yeah.
• 19:20
  Speaker 4: And they're just a
• 19:21
Speaker 3: very sweet like, what are those called? Not stone.
• 19:23
  Speaker 4: Pomegranates?
• 19:24
Speaker 3: Yeah. But what are those called? Like like dried fruits. No. Apricots.
• 19:28
No. But what is it called? Like, the that kind of fruit category.
• 19:33
Speaker 4: Oh, I dried fruits. No.
• 19:34
Speaker 3: But it's like red. I don't know. It'll come to me.
• 19:38
Speaker 4: And then I just think they're very sweet, nice flavors and they evoke some memory in your mind evidently associated with them because we didn't really eat that much dates and figs in your childhood. You didn't. So I don't think it evokes anything. Just think
• 19:58
  Speaker 3: you like
• 19:58
Speaker 4: I think you just like the flavors. Yeah. I like it too. I love dates. It's even like are very fattening.
• 20:05
  Very fattening.
• 20:06
  Speaker 3: I eat probably 15 dates a day.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. That's too much. I'm that's probably What are A camel? Are you going to are you going to Greece or Israel? I mean, is ridiculous.
• 20:16
  I
• 20:16
Speaker 3: with, like, almond butter or peanut butter.
• 20:18
Speaker 4: No. That's too this is too much.
• 20:20
  Speaker 3: I know. It's probably, like,
• 20:21
Speaker 4: a million calories. Oy.
• 20:23
Speaker 3: That's not good. Also, speaking of movies like Harry Met Sally and all that stuff, do you think that romance feels different in the fall? Kimberly, I
• 20:32
Speaker 4: think you're stretching the fall. I think
• 20:35
Speaker 3: I love the fall. I think it does. Think walking should Well, like separate
• 20:40
  Speaker 4: that's beautiful.
• 20:41
Speaker 3: It feels so beautiful. Like, feels romantic. Right. The colors, like
• 20:45
Speaker 4: The colors are beautiful. That's true. Everything looks spectacular.
• 20:49
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 20:49
Speaker 4: For about ten days, you get the reds and you get the oranges and you get the bright yellows. And it is a wonderful thing to see, especially even north of the city. It's just glorious. Even the weather of like a light jacket, can hold hands and walk around. If it's the winter, you're, like, freezing.
• 21:06
Speaker 3: Let's get inside. Like, it's not romantic. Okay. Fine. You don't get it.
• 21:10
  I I don't get
• 21:11
Speaker 4: it because you wear gloves and you can still hold hands.
• 21:13
Speaker 3: Fine. Actually, you're right. And it, like, is pretty. I guess season every can be romantic.
• 21:18
Speaker 4: Every season is beautiful. Look at this when the snow comes down, it's so beautiful. Fine.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: Let's move on to the drama club. This is what is trending this week. Sabrina Carpenter did SNL, and I'm seeing a lot of clips from it. I don't watch the full episode of SNL anymore.
• 21:41
Speaker 4: Not only was she the she did Oh, and musical guest. Exactly.
• 21:45
Speaker 3: I'm going to see her concert next weekend. Okay. So excited. Very good. I don't go to concerts.
• 21:51
I don't like a lot of musicians. So I do like her. So that this will be fun. I don't know what I'm gonna wear because a lot of people similar with Taylor Swift, they kinda wear like how she
• 22:00
Speaker 4: dresses. How she dresses? So I gotta figure that out. Well, I saw that last album cover. I don't think you can wear that.
• 22:06
Speaker 3: I don't think a guy can pull my hair
• 22:08
Speaker 4: Exactly. On my knees. I would hope not.
• 22:10
Speaker 3: Yeah. Probably not. Zach respects women too much. He would not do that. So I don't know.
• 22:17
I'm just, like, kinda over SNL generally.
• 22:19
Speaker 4: Yeah. I I think it's it's it's served its point, and it's now I think Lorne Michaels has had enough. I think he should retire it. And the great Volusian Are
• 22:31
Speaker 3: they bringing you to London or something?
• 22:33
  Speaker 4: I I don't know. I don't really care about it anymore. It's become too political, so I don't watch it.
• 22:38
Speaker 3: And, also, it's just, like, not funny.
• 22:40
Speaker 4: Well, it's not funny because they're not funny anymore. I mean,
• 22:43
Speaker 3: they're I don't know. They brought on five new cast members. Maybe they're funny. I I don't But I just feel like, who's staying up at 11PM?
• 22:51
Speaker 4: There are people who just who start waking up at nine, and they start getting really fired up and they watch all these late night programs. And it's they're fine if they're good, but I think most of them are just filling a void in the television screen.
• 23:05
Speaker 3: Maybe. But then it's like how if everyone watches the clips, you need the show to have the clips.
• 23:11
Speaker 4: I don't think anybody's watching it, Kim. I think they're they're rating The clips? Way down. I think their ratings are down if
• 23:16
Speaker 3: you don't clips on TikTok, they get millions of views. Okay. Why aren't you, like you don't believe me?
• 23:21
Speaker 4: I'd show you right now. I do believe you, but I don't I don't I think their audiences have been shrinking over the years.
• 23:27
Speaker 3: On live. Yeah. On people who actually are tuning into TV. Right. What I'm saying, if people watch it on their phones
• 23:32
Speaker 4: Okay. Actually Well, they don't watch the whole thing, do they? No.
• 23:35
  Speaker 3: Their
• 23:35
Speaker 4: phone? Well, that's why it's entertaining because it's less of it.
• 23:38
Speaker 3: Yeah. Exactly. I don't know. Okay. The other thing is Euphoria season three cast was announced.
• 23:44
Did you ever watch that show?
• 23:45
  Speaker 4: No, sweetheart.
• 23:47
Speaker 3: Okay. So it was basically like a show that really defined Gen Z culture a few years ago. Everyone's freaking out because like it hasn't been on the air for a few years and a lot of stars came out of it like Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney. They were all kind of like stars on that show and it's kind of a dark teen drama. So it's like drugs and glitter and trauma and makeup and all the things and had really like intense cinematography.
• 24:16
And so some of the new cast members joining, Natasha Lyon, Marshawn Lin, just to show how random like star studded it's become. Also, Trisha Paytas, who is an influencer for years, she's gonna be on the show. So it just feels like tonally very different and that'll be interesting for a lot of people. Does this sound like something you'd watch?
• 24:37
Speaker 4: No. I'm watching The Diplomat season three. For all those who've been following, Keri Russell, she's fabulous, and, and she's produced a lot of the segments. The show is great. So You're talking about Euphoria.
• 24:50
I'm not watching Euphoria, I'm watching The Diploma.
• 24:53
Speaker 3: Were there any shocking shows when you were my age that felt a little darker or something that really changed?
• 24:59
Speaker 4: It might have been, Kim, but when I was your age I was so busy changing diapers and trying to get a few hours sleep at night, I have no idea. I don't think I watched as much television when I was in my 20s and early 30s because I was so busy dealing with my own life. Now that I'm older and have more time and certainly more time to watch TV, and I don't watch regular TV except for the movies.
• 25:24
Speaker 3: Streaming, yeah. So what does that say about me if I watch so much TV? Am I not busy enough? Maybe I'm not.
• 25:29
  Speaker 4: I I don't know. I think a
• 25:30
Speaker 3: lot I of think more hours in my day.
• 25:32
Speaker 4: I no. I think a lot of what you watch is business related because you're always into that reality stuff.
• 25:37
Speaker 3: No. That's not bit I mean, I'm in media, but I'm not looking I'm not watching it. I've always watched it.
• 25:42
  Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
• 25:43
  Speaker 3: I don't know.
• 25:44
Speaker 4: Well, maybe you should read a book.
• 25:46
Speaker 3: But that's also a waste of time. Why? Like, why is that different than TV, I mean?
• 25:50
Speaker 4: Well, I think usually they're more serious and give you a more of an insight into what's happening in someone's life or a period of time.
• 25:57
Speaker 3: Maybe. Because I was thinking even like a movie like Grease or something. Like, was that because that was sort of like darker teen or Saturday Night Fever or something.
• 26:08
Speaker 4: Well, those were great iconic movies. Don't think that
• 26:12
Speaker 3: Didn't it define a generation is what I'm saying?
• 26:15
Speaker 4: Yes, did. Yes, absolutely. Well, Grease defined the fifties and that ain't Night Fever was the seventh. It doesn't matter when it came out, it was about the fifties, which was my era of growing up. Then I think Saturday Night Fever was definitely the seventies and the breaking out of the So there were things.
• 26:34
There were things, but they weren't as numerous. There were specific ones that really, you know, like a pulp fiction was an iconic movie. Were certain movies that stood out and then a lot of it was nothing. And also we went to the movies much more. I think the movie theaters you know, COVID of course died out.
• 26:54
There were no movie theaters open, but I think that was one of the effects of COVID that we didn't have the ongoing going to a movie on a Friday or a Saturday night. Think it comes Maybe it's a coming back. And I'd love for it to come back. I know. I think it would be great too.
• 27:08
But I think, you know, so many much of our thinking is now on Amazon and Netflix that we don't
• 27:14
Speaker 3: Just comfy at home. It's well And you can press pause. Exactly. Exactly. But I have been going to a lot of, like, screenings and premieres, and so it's forced me to, like, go to the movies again.
• 27:24
  That's
• 27:24
  Speaker 4: fun, though.
• 27:24
Speaker 3: Not forced me. I'm so happy to go. But you're when I feel that and, like, even the film festivals, Right. I felt that communal watching experience. Right.
• 27:33
And it reminded me, oh, yeah. I like like when everybody's laughing together. Well, does make
• 27:37
Speaker 4: it does make for something more fun.
• 27:39
Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. Let's move on to the Grandma Report. So this week, I was gonna talk about similar topic. Netflix and Spotify struck a deal that starting early twenty twenty six next year.
• 27:54
In The US, there's a selection of like Spotify video podcasts like ourselves. We're not in in this right now, but that will also be available on Netflix. Oh, that's fun. So people are going to like be able to tune into Netflix and watch their pod casts that they love. I think it's only a select number that have been chosen for this.
• 28:14
  Oh, come out
• 28:14
Speaker 4: audience. Vote for us.
• 28:15
Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if it's like a audience vote. I think it's probably like some executive somewhere. But I don't know. Do do you watch your podcast or you just listen?
• 28:25
Speaker 4: No, I watch it. I like to see the actual people speaking. I enjoy that. You know, I know a lot of people run when they're doing their podcasts so then you wouldn't see it, you know, a lot of walk when they're walking, But I watch podcasts really from my sofa, and I enjoy it because I like seeing the different expressions
• 28:46
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 28:47
Speaker 4: On the people's faces when they're talking. But maybe I'm by myself thinking that.
• 28:52
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, people who are listening, leave a comment on this podcast or send me a DM on Instagram and say whether you would like to watch us on Netflix, if that's an option, or if you prefer listening to us on Spotify or even just watching us on Spotify like we have it now. We've been prioritizing video for a long time. Right. Probably at least two years at this point, which is why I wanted to host our podcast on Spotify for a while now because they were the only platform supporting video podcast.
• 29:21
Right. And I think it's the future of podcasting and this confirms that. Okay. So right again, Kim. I'm not tooting my own horn.
• 29:29
  I'm just saying, like
• 29:30
Speaker 4: But you you knew. You saw the future.
• 29:32
Speaker 3: Oh, that's so Raven. You doesn't get the reference. Let's move on to a game of should we bring it back? Grandma, should we bring back matching coats for couples and families, like, when they all wear the same
• 29:49
Speaker 4: I only think it's cute for little children. Yeah. I don't like when husbands and wives are gonna wear matching blue coats or pink coats or red coats. But I think for little children, it's adorable. And of course, and not just twins.
• 30:00
I mean, you know, it's just cute in the family if everybody's doing it. It's like almost a matching t shirt for kids in the summer when they go someplace, but whatever. I think it's fun. Not every day. Let's do it for a special occasion.
• 30:13
Speaker 3: Renting movies for a night in. So not just like streaming it, like purchasing and, like, how we used to do a that anymore? You can for, like, movies that I think just start maybe in theaters too.
• 30:24
Speaker 4: Mean, we used to do that all the time, but at this point, I almost think that business is archaic. If you wait two weeks, anything that's in the theater is now on my streaming.
• 30:34
Speaker 3: Unless you're dying to see it, I would say wait also.
• 30:37
Speaker 4: I saw Downton, the last part of Downton, I waited. I was going to go to the theater and then, I don't know, Poppy said he didn't want to go. So I said, Okay. So I think I paid $19 Oh, you did? Yeah, did.
• 30:48
Dollars Yeah. But $19 isn't 50 and I could sit it and turn it off like you say. Right. And we went and got a drink. Yeah.
• 30:55
  Speaker 3: Went and
• 30:55
  Speaker 4: got a cookie.
• 30:56
Speaker 3: Sometimes it's a fun thing to do. Yeah. I could bring it back maybe. Yeah. Homemade centerpieces with, like, leaves and fruit and stuff like that.
• 31:04
Speaker 4: It's always pretty. I mean, it's pretty if you're entertaining, like you say, you're not gonna put the fruit out all day long, but it's nice to have the change of seasons reflected in your house. It's like putting pumpkins out or putting in the in the spring, you put your chrysanth you put your spring flowers out. Right. Tulips.
• 31:26
My favorite thing is tulips. Bring it back. Okay. Doesn't hurt.
• 31:31
Speaker 3: Okay. For ask grandma anything this week, we're gonna do one longer question that a listener wrote in.
• 31:36
  Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
• 31:41
Speaker 3: Okay. We have a situation.
• 31:44
Speaker 4: This is not a phony movie again like you tricked me last time.
• 31:48
Speaker 3: Oh, you mean no. I I pranked you and I told you the situation from summer I turned pretty. No. This is a real
• 31:55
Speaker 4: Okay. Alright. So I should really listen.
• 31:57
Speaker 3: Really listen. Okay. We have a situation. A 70 year old grandpa is letting the woman he had dated for a year but broke up with still live in his apartment rent Even though his grown up children have voiced their concern about the way she's treating him. For example, at the fab for example, at the family gatherings that included her back when they were together, she would berate him openly and be very nasty to him, shocking even his grandchildren.
• 32:21
He insists they're not in a relationship anymore and doesn't see anything wrong with her still living in his place like it's her home too. He's a widower and says she keeps him company but they're not together. His children and grandchildren make sure to spend time with him often so he's not estranged from the family by any means. But now going over to his place is not a comfortable option. Everyone's concerned about this woman's motives.
• 32:41
A talk with him yields no results as he assured everyone there's no problem. Grandma has sorry. Grandpa has his private life, but is there anything a family should should or should not do in such a case?
• 32:53
Speaker 4: That's a it's a very hard problem, and I and I know friends that were in similar situations.
• 33:00
Speaker 3: Same, I have multiple friends with similar situations.
• 33:02
Speaker 4: But I think unless this man has tremendous wealth, they shouldn't worry about it. Evidently, he wants the companionship. Know, it's one thing for it to say that the grandchildren are coming over and spending time with him, but they're not spending three meals a day with him. They're not spending evenings at home. So their relationship might be that she's a little bossier to him than they would like to see.
• 33:28
But if he's not complaining and it's more about him just not being by himself I'm surprised, though. A 70 year old man, unless there's something Yeah. That's with him. Yeah, I don't think it's a healthy situation. I agree with the kids.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: He could easily find someone else.
• 33:45
Speaker 4: Mean Even in their thirties or forties. Exactly. Could have a girlfriend in her forties for sure. But I think that they have to look at all sides. Is there something physically that he's not telling them, that he's not well and he needs companionship 20 fourseven?
• 34:03
I don't know. I don't like to give out. I would be a little wary and I would discuss it with them, but they say they have and he's good with it, so you know, they have to sort of he is an adult, unless he's not thinking clearly. If he's not thinking clearly, then that's another issue. They might need to have a lawyer step in.
• 34:22
Speaker 3: That's where it's complicated, and and typically, I feel like it'd probably be with older individuals. But, like, if the person is dealing with, like, yeah, not thinking clearly Right. Or is blinded by some other, like
• 34:37
Speaker 4: We don't know. We don't know the particular we don't really know the people. Then they're taking advantage
• 34:41
Speaker 3: of somebody. That's like elder abuse.
• 34:43
Speaker 4: Yeah. But but on the other hand, he evidently is reticent about her leaving. I mean, they're not in a relationship, he says, she's just merely sharing the space, but he evidently doesn't want to be alone. So unless the children are saying, Come live with me, which in many cases happens, but he's not really that old. So I think we have to investigate it more.
• 35:11
It has to be more conversation on it. But the children should stay on top of it and make sure that somebody isn't abusing somebody physically and mentally.
• 35:20
Speaker 3: And also the, like, financial element. Like, I feel like you see that happen a lot where, like, somebody really just wants, like, their money and, like,
• 35:33
Speaker 4: If will try to it if it does he have a lot of money? If he doesn't have a lot of money, then what's the difference?
• 35:38
Speaker 3: But, like, even if you only have a little money, what if your angle like, what if the person is trying to get their kids out of, like, any will and put themselves in?
• 35:46
Speaker 4: Oh, well, I don't even know if it steps that far. I think they feel he's if she's taking advantage of him on a monthly basis with using you know, not paying rent.
• 35:55
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 35:55
Speaker 4: If the woman is just living with him free and clear and they're really not in a relationship. But, you know, it might not be anything of any monetary amount that's that's worth having a conversation. It's more about control, and I think the children have to look into the whole facet of it, and before we make any judgment, there could be lots of different layers to What's the question to ask? Well, the question to really see is it that he wants companionship. If he's only looking to have a companion and a friend and she's in the picture and he doesn't care that she's sort of abusive, then fine.
• 36:36
Or they might have to say, Grandpa, could would you wanna live with us? And I don't know if they're ready for that. So, you know, it's a very hard thing.
• 36:45
  Speaker 3: Mhmm.
• 36:46
Speaker 4: Don't worry, Kim. I'm I'm moving in with you. Okay.
• 36:51
