- 0:07Speaker 1: Listen Media podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newarthan.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Today we're joined by Brody Henderson, Chester, Floyd Randall, Williams,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Alyssa Smith, Christine Siwicki, Marge Smith, Logan, Dove and Chili.
- 0:25Speaker 1: This is a ten round quiz show with questions for
- 0:28Speaker 1: meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:33Speaker 1: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners. Choosing
- 0:38Speaker 1: and for the start of the week. This week we're
- 0:39Speaker 1: looking at the number fifteen. That is the percentage of
- 0:43Speaker 1: multiple choice questions that are in the board game. Now,
- 0:46Speaker 1: in the regular show that number is ten percent, but
- 0:49Speaker 1: I wanted to make the game more approachable for hunters
- 0:52Speaker 1: and anglers of all skill sets, so I slightly upped
- 0:55Speaker 1: the ratio of multiple choice questions for that reason. Fifteen
- 1:00Speaker 1: the questions or multiple choice, How does that strike you?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Randal you like it or would you rather be like
- 1:05Speaker 1: five percent?
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'll be honest, I don't really like the multiple choice
- 1:10Speaker 2: I understand the rationale.
- 1:13Speaker 1: What's the rationale, well, to make it more to.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Make it more approachable for users of all there you
- 1:19Speaker 2: go levels of experience. But I would assume though, that
- 1:24Speaker 2: someone could for some of the multiple choice questions just
- 1:28Speaker 2: forego the options as they're reading it to their competitors
- 1:32Speaker 2: and just.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Make the multiple choice. Well, here's why that wouldn't work.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sometimes it'll be like which of these meets has the
- 1:38Speaker 1: most calories or something like that, or which one of
- 1:41Speaker 1: these people was born first. So if you want to
- 1:44Speaker 1: play on hard mode like Randall, you could with the
- 1:46Speaker 1: board game, But for everyone else, just use the multiple
- 1:49Speaker 1: choice questions.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I do like to make things more difficult.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Meeting or Trivia, the only board game where conservation always wins,
- 1:56Speaker 1: comes out this fall. Here's our zero percent or question
- 1:59Speaker 1: of the Week, which tests how much knowledge players have
- 2:02Speaker 1: retained from previous shows. This question was from episode four
- 2:05Speaker 1: oh six. The topic was hunting, and nobody got it right.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Name two of the five states in America that killed
- 2:12Speaker 1: the most geese? What do you got? Start naming them?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Two of the five states that kill the most geese, Michigan,
- 2:19Speaker 1: South Dakota. North Dakota is one of them. Keep going, Minnesota, Minnesota,
- 2:24Speaker 1: is one of them. Minnesota's two, North Dakota is five,
- 2:27Speaker 1: looking for one three y and four. No, no, no, no.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Texas is number one. We're missing three and four. Those
- 2:37Speaker 1: are California and Maryland. So the top five states are Texas, Minnesota, California, Maryland,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and North Dakota. They kill the most geese each year
- 2:46Speaker 1: in the country. We have some housekeeping to get to.
- 2:50Speaker 1: In a previous game of trivia, I asked who is
- 2:52Speaker 1: the only person that has a national park named after them?
- 2:56Speaker 1: The correct answer was Theodore Roosevelt, but a few listeners
- 2:59Speaker 1: wrote in offering a second and third answer. Some folks
- 3:03Speaker 1: pointed out that Bryce Canyon National Park is named after
- 3:07Speaker 1: Bryce Canyon, which is named after the pioneer Ebenezer Bryce. Now,
- 3:12Speaker 1: technically the park is named after the land, and the
- 3:15Speaker 1: land is named after a person, so it kind of
- 3:18Speaker 1: falls in a gray area. What does the room think?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Should we give them credit for Bryce Canyon? Here's the
- 3:22Speaker 1: question one more time as a reminder, who is the
- 3:25Speaker 1: only person that has a national park named after them?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Should we accept Bryce Canyon? No? No, no, okay, I
- 3:31Speaker 1: was leaning the other direction. I'm with you me Chester, Maggie.
- 3:36Speaker 1: The rest is it Bryce Canyon National Park, the Bryce
- 3:39Speaker 1: Canyon National Park, and Bryce Canyon is named after Ebenezer Bryce. Okay,
- 3:44Speaker 1: the room has voted on a no. Here's the other one.
- 3:47Speaker 1: A few other listeners wrote in saying that the answer
- 3:50Speaker 1: Sequoya National Park should also be accepted. Here's why. Sequoia
- 3:53Speaker 1: National Park is named after the Sequoya Tree, and those
- 3:57Speaker 1: trees are named after the Cherokee leader Sequoya, so similar
- 4:01Speaker 1: to Bryce Canyon, the park is named after a feature
- 4:04Speaker 1: that is named after a person. Should we accept Sequoya
- 4:07Speaker 1: National Park? No? No, No, is it just I don't
- 4:13Speaker 1: think it's Sequoia Tree. I think it's just no. No.
- 4:15Speaker 3: I thought it was like Brod, not like Sequoya Dash something.
- 4:20Speaker 4: So you're telling me if you knew Sequoya was the
- 4:24Speaker 4: name of that leader and you put that down and
- 4:27Speaker 4: they said it didn't count, you wouldn't for Isola complaint.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I go if I'm gonna stick. If I'm gonna stick
- 4:36Speaker 3: with the Bryce Canyon thing, I don't think you can
- 4:39Speaker 3: go the same way because it looks.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Like it's King King's Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park,
- 4:45Speaker 1: But I believe they're probably managed by the same folks
- 4:48Speaker 1: and probably each other or something.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Anyway, if it's named after the tree, it's not named
- 4:55Speaker 3: after the Cherokee leader, but the tree is named after
- 4:57Speaker 3: the Cherokee. It's like, once removed.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Okay, Bryce Canyon thing. Then I could see you just
- 5:03Speaker 4: throwing a little fit over there.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Well, Bryce Canyon has two words, and Sequoia is just
- 5:09Speaker 5: one word, so that one's closer.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Okay, is more split. Listen, I would have given it
- 5:14Speaker 1: to you if you would have argued with me in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the moment and said, well, it's actually named after this
- 5:18Speaker 1: thing and that thing is named after this, but uh,
- 5:21Speaker 1: the room feels otherwise. So we're not accepting Bryce Canyon
- 5:24Speaker 1: and we're not accepting Sequoia National Park. That means the
- 5:28Speaker 1: only answer then is Theodore Roosevelt.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Well we I thought you're the one.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Well sure in this case, though I was, I was
- 5:36Speaker 1: torn on it. I thought the room would come in
- 5:39Speaker 1: on on my side and be like, yeah, I give
- 5:40Speaker 1: it to him, of course, but here we are. Sloppy
- 5:44Speaker 1: doesn't count.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Now.
- 5:45Speaker 1: The Shelby Index for today's round is a four, so
- 5:48Speaker 1: our winner should get eight correct answers, and with that
- 5:51Speaker 1: we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop phil.
- 5:57Speaker 5: On the colored lightwise battery, So you have to use
- 6:00Speaker 5: your imagination.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Okay, get my flash shot up.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Game on suckers.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Question one. This will be multiple choice as always. According
- 6:18Speaker 1: to a twenty twenty three survey, Americans in this profession
- 6:22Speaker 1: have the quote happiest most meaningful work on Earth? Is
- 6:27Speaker 1: it foresters, biologists, game organs, or fishermen? This is according
- 6:33Speaker 1: to a twenty twenty three survey. This is a quote
- 6:36Speaker 1: they had. Americans in this profession have the happiest, most
- 6:41Speaker 1: meaningful work on Earth? Is it foresters, biologists, game organs,
- 6:47Speaker 1: or fishermen? Chester with a quick answer, Chester, how happy
- 6:54Speaker 1: and meaningful is your work?
- 6:58Speaker 4: Unbelievably happy, especially when I fishing?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Okay, great answer, Chess is trying to influence the room.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Again? Your choices are foresters, biologists,
- 7:10Speaker 1: game organs, and fishermen. For who has the happiest, most
- 7:14Speaker 1: meaningful work on Earth? Is everybody ready?
- 7:19Speaker 3: Hold on?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Has anyone been a Forester, biologist, game organ or fisherman
- 7:24Speaker 1: in this room? Chester? Fishing in the weekend? For while
- 7:30Speaker 1: I does not count, he had fishing.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Guy on TV show that counts.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, fish competitively? Is everybody ready? Go ahead and
- 7:41Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Logan saying biologists. Alssa is
- 7:44Speaker 1: saying biologists, Chile saying foresters, Randall's saying foresters, Christine saying foresters,
- 7:50Speaker 1: Marge saying foresters, Chester saying biologists, Brody saying fishermen. The
- 7:57Speaker 1: correct answer is foresters.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I'm on the board did pretty well.
- 8:05Speaker 1: The survey simply asked people how happy they were with
- 8:08Speaker 1: their job, how much meaning it brought them, and how
- 8:11Speaker 1: much stress it caused. Foresters won in every category, reporting
- 8:16Speaker 1: that they were incredibly happy, felt a lot of meaning,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and experienced very little stress. On the other end of
- 8:22Speaker 1: the spectrum, where people who work in finance and insurance
- 8:25Speaker 1: saying that they have low happiness, little meaning, and lots
- 8:28Speaker 1: of stress. So do you want to talk Alissa, which
- 8:34Speaker 1: you'd be in finance right? Do you? Does that resonate
- 8:39Speaker 1: low happiness, little meaning and lots of stress.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Get on that microphone the whole true Foresters are, they're happy,
- 8:48Speaker 3: they say that they're not stress and they get a
- 8:50Speaker 3: lot of meaning from their job.
- 8:51Speaker 1: So go be a forester. You'll enjoy what you're doing.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Question two the topic is hunting. This next great question
- 8:59Speaker 1: comes to to be a Cordy Betton court. What subspecies
- 9:03Speaker 1: of elk is only found in California?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Fuck?
- 9:06Speaker 3: I'm sorry?
- 9:10Speaker 1: What subspecies of elk is only found in California? What's
- 9:16Speaker 1: the chili? Trying to coax an answer out of the room?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I got I think I should like when I
- 9:26Speaker 2: come on the show, I need a handicap, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 2: So I need like at least a bone thrown my
- 9:31Speaker 2: way every every three questions, every two questions.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Randall and Brody have it right? Chester? Do you have
- 9:39Speaker 1: this one right as well? I think so, Chestering? What
- 9:41Speaker 1: was the emergency exit from the room?
- 9:43Speaker 4: Just, dude, I ate some mussels.
- 9:49Speaker 1: My stomach?
- 9:50Speaker 4: Oh, Richards, I went out there to just burn.
- 9:56Speaker 3: How long ago?
- 9:57Speaker 1: Chester's It's it's one fourteen right now.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It wasn't It was like twenty five minutes ago.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Okay, keep it to burp lunch.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Where did you get these muscles out?
- 10:07Speaker 4: They're really good. They're canned muscle. Oh and it's like
- 10:12Speaker 4: spicy muscle. And I put them on a cracker with
- 10:15Speaker 4: some blue cheese like spread.
- 10:18Speaker 3: There you go.
- 10:19Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm glad my office is a
- 10:26Speaker 5: couple of doors down.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Here's a question. Again, what subspecies of elk is only
- 10:31Speaker 1: found in California? Does everybody have an answer? Christine, Marge,
- 10:37Speaker 1: are you ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 10:42Speaker 1: have Logan saying Roosevelt a listen without an answer, Chili
- 10:45Speaker 1: without an answer, Randall saying Tuley, Christine saying Roosevelt. March
- 10:49Speaker 1: saying Roosevelt drew a nice elk forest chest. You're saying
- 10:53Speaker 1: tou lee. Brody's saying tou Lee. They got it. The
- 10:56Speaker 1: correct answer is touley too, Lee. Elk, we're near hunted
- 11:00Speaker 1: to extinction. Biologists estimate that the California heard was once
- 11:05Speaker 1: half a million strong, but by the mid eighteen hundreds
- 11:08Speaker 1: there were less than thirty of them left. There are
- 11:10Speaker 1: about six thousand and two the elk in California today,
- 11:14Speaker 1: with some areas supporting a hunting season for them. Has
- 11:17Speaker 1: anybody ever seen a tuo le elk?
- 11:19Speaker 3: Yep, I don't know.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You saw one like in California? What were you doing there?
- 11:23Speaker 3: This is visit my sister a long time ago.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Do you think of you to put one next to
- 11:27Speaker 1: a rocky mountain elk or smaller you'd have seen it.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I think they're like smaller bodied for sure.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Question three, the topic is cooking. The CDC recommends humming
- 11:42Speaker 1: this song twice while scrubbing your hands with soap is
- 11:48Speaker 1: straight from the CDC. They recommend that you hum this
- 11:52Speaker 1: song twice while scrubbing your hands with soap.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Man, I'm not washing my hands right?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Well, then maybe you have the wrong song. Brody, No,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I don't have a song.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Okay, I thought he just said I'm not washing my hands.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Period.
- 12:13Speaker 1: The CDC recommends humming this song twice while scrubbing your
- 12:17Speaker 1: hands with soap. Does anybody know this or was it
- 12:22Speaker 1: just a bunch of guessest? This whole sign of the
- 12:25Speaker 1: table was pretty I think I know it.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Okay, I'm just basing this one off my childhood.
- 12:34Speaker 1: The CDC recommends humming this song twice while scrubbing your
- 12:38Speaker 1: hands with soap. Marge, are you ready.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Wash your hands after you coughed out there and your's.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He burped into your hat? Chili? Is everybody ready?
- 12:55Speaker 3: I'm not wearing it.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have logan saying
- 13:00Speaker 1: clean up, Melissa saying ABC's chili saying happy and you
- 13:04Speaker 1: know it. Randall is saying happy birthday, Christine saying Happy birthday,
- 13:08Speaker 1: March saying the ABC's Chester saying ABC's Brody saying Happy Birthday.
- 13:14Speaker 1: He crossed out row row, row your vote. I like
- 13:18Speaker 1: that we have a correct answer in the room. It's
- 13:22Speaker 1: happy birthday. A few folks got it right, Randall, Did
- 13:26Speaker 1: you get that? I did? They say that you should
- 13:28Speaker 1: scrub your hands with soap for twenty seconds, or about
- 13:32Speaker 1: the time it takes you to hum Happy Birthday twice.
- 13:35Speaker 1: A twenty twenty Mashable article offered alternatives if you become
- 13:39Speaker 1: sick of humming Happy Birthday. Some of their suggestions included
- 13:43Speaker 1: humming the chorus of Toto's Africa once, the pizza bagel
- 13:47Speaker 1: jingle twice, or the most famous portion of the Star
- 13:50Speaker 1: Wars Imperial March pizza bagel pizza evening time.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Pizza is not a bagel. You can have pizza anytime.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I knew, I knew I could count on somebody. You
- 14:04Speaker 1: know the pizza bagel jingle, which is probably from like
- 14:06Speaker 1: what nineteen ninety nine or something that's not put.
- 14:09Speaker 3: A little more loan on it. Though, yes you should
- 14:12Speaker 3: Happy Birthday.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I do a real number on Happy Birthday.
- 14:15Speaker 5: I only know the words. I can't think of the
- 14:17Speaker 5: melody of it.
- 14:18Speaker 2: It's in the morning time, oh suffered when pizzas it's
- 14:27Speaker 2: like kind of a it's kind of like a grungy
- 14:29Speaker 2: rock song.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I feel like, yeah, if you just did that twice.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Some kids getting home from school with their skateboards and
- 14:36Speaker 2: they're looking for some pizza on it.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Did you just watch his commercial this morning?
- 14:39Speaker 2: No, just buried in my This is buried in my head.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's more than printed.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Is there any pizza bagels in your freezer right now?
- 14:47Speaker 2: No, I haven't had pizza bagels in years.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Question The topic is conservation. What invasive fish that's native
- 14:56Speaker 1: to the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean was first spotted
- 14:59Speaker 1: in floor in nineteen eighty five? Quick answer from Brody,
- 15:05Speaker 1: He's the only one. Here's the question again, The topic
- 15:08Speaker 1: is conservation. What invasive fish that's native to the Pacific
- 15:12Speaker 1: Ocean and Indian Ocean was first spotted in Florida in
- 15:17Speaker 1: nineteen eighty five? Chester now coming up with an answer.
- 15:22Speaker 1: The rest of the room looks stumped. What invasive fish
- 15:29Speaker 1: that's native to the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean was
- 15:33Speaker 1: first spotted in Florida in nineteen eighty five. Phil is
- 15:40Speaker 1: now keeping score on a whiteboard. Phil has been a
- 15:43Speaker 1: real game changer for you over there.
- 15:45Speaker 5: It has been. I've been turned against technology. Sitting back here,
- 15:48Speaker 5: I hate it all. I was using a little website
- 15:52Speaker 5: like scoreboard whatever thing, and it was just I kept
- 15:55Speaker 5: screwing up. I wanted to be better for you and
- 15:59Speaker 5: the show, Spencer. So I've got it's all separated into
- 16:02Speaker 5: questions so I can go back and reference it.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You know, where's the where's the score?
- 16:06Speaker 3: Rint?
- 16:07Speaker 1: I don't even see the score there. I just saw
- 16:08Speaker 1: check marks.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Well, oh yeah, I'm just tallying each question. I don't
- 16:12Speaker 5: have like atal questioning my methods.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It'll evolve and uh you'll it'll get better.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 2: I think you're doing great film.
- 16:20Speaker 3: He is appreciate it.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Randall.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It's everybody ready. Do you need more time? Goods, go
- 16:28Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Logan saying catfish.
- 16:32Speaker 1: This is saying cod chili without an answer, Randall saying snakehead.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Christine's saying lion.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I was gonna write that down.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Marge saying lion fish. She drew a lion and a
- 16:43Speaker 1: fish chest. You're saying bonefish, Brody saying lionfish. The correct
- 16:48Speaker 1: answer is lionfish. Ship did pretty well. Lion Fish are
- 16:53Speaker 1: considered one of the worst invasive species in Florida because
- 16:57Speaker 1: of their lack of predators there. One study found that
- 17:00Speaker 1: the presence of a single lionfish on a coral reef
- 17:03Speaker 1: can reduce recruitment of native fish by seventy nine percent.
- 17:07Speaker 1: The Emerald Coast Open Lionfish Tournament does its best to
- 17:10Speaker 1: knock back their numbers, with participants collecting nearly twenty five
- 17:14Speaker 1: thousand lionfish in twenty twenty three.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Someone just set a record. I don't know if it
- 17:19Speaker 3: was in that tournament or not.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It was that tournament.
- 17:21Speaker 3: It's like six hundred of them and one boat or
- 17:24Speaker 3: a new record.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And I think with all those lionfish they go to
- 17:27Speaker 1: like a sushi restaurant nearby, who takes them? Pretty cool?
- 17:30Speaker 5: They taste good.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Yes they're good.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Oh you've had them.
- 17:35Speaker 3: You just got to clip the spines on them before
- 17:38Speaker 3: you start fileting them.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Or question five, the topic is gear. This next great
- 17:44Speaker 1: question comes to his via Adam Kremcher for sending this
- 17:47Speaker 1: great question. Excuse me, uh he is not our winner
- 17:51Speaker 1: of the week. I messed that up via Adam. Sorry Adam.
- 17:55Speaker 1: What does the name of the archery company PSEE stand for? Okay?
- 18:01Speaker 2: This is bad because I actually shoot a PSC.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And I don't know what chili? That is bad that.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Jason Phelips, Thanks Jason.
- 18:09Speaker 1: What does the name of the archery Company p s
- 18:12Speaker 1: E stand for? Brody with a.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Quick answer first ever compound bow.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Was as Oh what was it? Do you remember?
- 18:23Speaker 5: Oh?
- 18:23Speaker 3: God, I don't know. It's like forty years ago, Spencer,
- 18:27Speaker 3: you weren't even the twinkle in your parents.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Eyes is not Randall? Do you have this one right?
- 18:34Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I don't think so. Got a guess.
- 18:42Speaker 1: P s E.
- 18:43Speaker 2: At some point I knew this and then the the
- 18:48Speaker 2: Bagel Bytes song.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Just thinking about the entire obvious. I know what you're doing.
- 18:54Speaker 1: That good.
- 18:56Speaker 3: We should have a tray of those things in the
- 18:57Speaker 3: green room next time.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Totally is that what this room next door is? The
- 19:02Speaker 1: green room?
- 19:03Speaker 3: Isn't that what it's technically supposed to be? Phil Technically yes,
- 19:07Speaker 3: although it's not really set up that way.
- 19:09Speaker 5: It'll get there.
- 19:10Speaker 1: What would what would it be if it was a
- 19:11Speaker 1: green room? Like, what would we do in there, sit
- 19:14Speaker 1: around and okay, show meeting.
- 19:19Speaker 4: There.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Sure you can hobnob with the with the guests we're time.
- 19:24Speaker 1: The topic is gear. What does the archery company p
- 19:27Speaker 1: s E. Standford? Does everybody have an answer? Chester? Listen?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Christine Furiously writing, is everybody ready? Chili just no, go
- 19:44Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Logan saying performance
- 19:48Speaker 1: shooting equipment. Listen saying pro sportsman experience and get it
- 19:54Speaker 1: Chili without an answer, Randall saying precision shooting equipment. Christine
- 19:59Speaker 1: saying precision precision should be expected. March saying polysynthetic eurothinge.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Chester saying professional shooting equipment. Brody's saying precision shooting equipment.
- 20:14Speaker 1: The correct answer is precision shooting equipment. Now I know
- 20:19Speaker 1: a few folks got it right. PS was founded by
- 20:23Speaker 1: Pete Shepley in nineteen seventy one. They are known for
- 20:27Speaker 1: creating some of the fastest hunting bows in the industry,
- 20:30Speaker 1: with some approaching speeds of three hundred and seventy feet
- 20:33Speaker 1: per second. In a twenty twenty article by Tony Hansen,
- 20:35Speaker 1: he ranked the ten fastest bows he's ever tested with PSE,
- 20:39Speaker 1: claiming both fourth and ninth place. Fail. We are halfway
- 20:43Speaker 1: through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Yeah, sure thing. Let's see here we have we again,
- 20:51Speaker 5: Alyssa with zero points, Chilian Chester have one point apiece,
- 20:55Speaker 5: mag Smith has two, Christine has three points and tied
- 20:58Speaker 5: up in first place. Are random roady?
- 21:02Speaker 3: You know, for the ones that you actually write answers for,
- 21:06Speaker 3: you're doing really well. I know you could.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Score it like the S A T where if you
- 21:13Speaker 2: don't get it, isn't that? Isn't that a thing? One
- 21:15Speaker 2: of the standardized tests. If you don't guess, you you
- 21:18Speaker 2: do better than if you get wrong.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Question.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I don't know, Christine. What didn't you like about the
- 21:23Speaker 1: inflection in Phil's voice you read your score?
- 21:28Speaker 5: I don't remember, Chris. Here's the thing I found out.
- 21:33Speaker 5: If I don't bring enough enthusiasm to the score reporting,
- 21:37Speaker 5: they make me do it later with a lot of
- 21:39Speaker 5: with a lot of enthusiasm. It's too much pressure. I
- 21:42Speaker 5: don't like it, so I just try to bring it up.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, your voice is great the surprise part, but.
- 21:48Speaker 5: It's fair.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Quite Shin six, the topic is public Lands. This is
- 22:03Speaker 1: our listener question of the week, which was won by
- 22:05Speaker 1: Chris Roberts sending this great question. Chris is going to
- 22:08Speaker 1: get a book signed by Steve. This Texas National Seashore
- 22:13Speaker 1: is a popular spring break destination and the longest barrier
- 22:17Speaker 1: island in the world. The topic is public lands. This
- 22:23Speaker 1: Texas National Seashore is a popular spring break destination and
- 22:27Speaker 1: the longest barrier island in the world. A few folks
- 22:31Speaker 1: in the room are confident. Chile, you seem to know
- 22:34Speaker 1: this one. Have you been there? I've done a lot
- 22:37Speaker 1: of party in my life, so okay, at this case,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I know.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Actually I've never been there.
- 22:41Speaker 2: But I had a few friends go down to Texas
- 22:43Speaker 2: for school and they said, I.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Thought you were giving.
- 22:50Speaker 2: You're having a heart attack. Let's keep your eyes for
- 22:54Speaker 2: a little bit after that.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Holy's anianbody in the room. Ever been to this place?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Yes?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Oh okay, like in your partying days fishing. Oh okay,
- 23:06Speaker 1: here's the question one more time. This Texas National Seashore
- 23:10Speaker 1: is a popular spring break destination in the longest barrier
- 23:14Speaker 1: island in the world. Alyssa, you have some children that
- 23:18Speaker 1: are approaching spring break age. You haven't been studying up
- 23:22Speaker 1: yet on where they might go.
- 23:23Speaker 3: No, I don't want to know, okay, there wasn't a
- 23:27Speaker 3: big biker rally when I was there, and those guys
- 23:29Speaker 3: are partying hard.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It's everybody ready? Were you there in the spring? Paul?
- 23:35Speaker 5: I know this and I cannot remember?
- 23:37Speaker 1: And are we ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 23:43Speaker 1: We have Logan saying great Barrier, reef Alyssa saying Gelveston,
- 23:47Speaker 1: Chilis saying Corpus, Christy Randall's saying Padre Island, Christine saying Pablo,
- 23:53Speaker 1: Marge without an answer, Chester without an answer, Brody's saying
- 23:56Speaker 1: Padre Island. The correct answer is Padre Island. Padre Island
- 24:01Speaker 1: is one hundred and thirteen miles long, about half of
- 24:04Speaker 1: which is part of the Padre Island National Seashore. The
- 24:08Speaker 1: island is home to dozens of unique animals, including the
- 24:11Speaker 1: world's smallest and most endangered sea turtle. It's also a
- 24:15Speaker 1: breeding ground for college students, with officials estimating that one
- 24:18Speaker 1: hundred and twenty thousand spring breakers come there each year. Brody,
- 24:23Speaker 1: how much of a party scene was it while you
- 24:25Speaker 1: were there? Besides the bike?
- 24:26Speaker 3: It was a slow It was like early October, so
- 24:28Speaker 3: it was a pretty slow time of year, and the
- 24:31Speaker 3: I'm wondering if the partiers like spend a lot of
- 24:34Speaker 3: time on the National Seashore versus like the regular beaches
- 24:37Speaker 3: on town and all that. I mean, I get where
- 24:40Speaker 3: you're going, but it was like, it's like you can
- 24:43Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure you can drive. I'm pretty sure we
- 24:45Speaker 3: drove on the National Seashore. You can drive the beaches
- 24:48Speaker 3: and there was no one around.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Question seven. The topic is woodsmanship. The TV show Survivor
- 24:55Speaker 1: Man was created by, written by, directed by, and starring
- 25:00Speaker 1: This Man. The topic is woodsmanship. The TV show Survivor
- 25:08Speaker 1: Man was created by, written by, directed by, and starring
- 25:12Speaker 1: This Man.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Was the first and last name required if.
- 25:19Speaker 1: You give me the last name, that's good enough to
- 25:21Speaker 1: talk about when it was on TV. And the follow
- 25:24Speaker 1: up factoid, now you can feel good about giving him
- 25:27Speaker 1: pizza whenever.
- 25:28Speaker 3: They want you.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Hear that guitar.
- 25:47Speaker 1: It sounds like gospel.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Gospel.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I imagine that.
- 25:54Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that that lick at the end, that's
- 25:59Speaker 2: what I remember.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's the question again. The TV show Survivor Man was
- 26:03Speaker 1: created by, written by, directed by, and starring This Man.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Phil.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Did you have the.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Visuals on your end?
- 26:10Speaker 3: I did?
- 26:11Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:11Speaker 1: How was it?
- 26:13Speaker 5: A lot of nineties, just just washed down the good, good,
- 26:16Speaker 5: colorful windbreakers and bowl cuts. It was great.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Oh man, does everybody have an answer? Everybody ready? Go
- 26:26Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Logan saying bear grills.
- 26:29Speaker 1: A listen without an answer, Chili saying Wesley, Randal sang
- 26:33Speaker 1: Less Stroud, Christine saying Steve Ranella, Marge saying bear grills.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Chest You're saying bear grills, Brodie saying Less Stroud. The
- 26:42Speaker 1: correct answer is Less Stroud.
- 26:45Speaker 3: You know how, you know how Elon Musk and Zuckerberg.
- 26:49Speaker 3: We're gonna duke it out.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Sure.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I always felt like these two guys should survive it
- 26:54Speaker 3: out bear grills.
- 26:56Speaker 1: This guy I picked Less Stroud. The Survivor Man aired
- 27:01Speaker 1: on the Outdoor Life Network, Science Channel and Discovery Channel
- 27:04Speaker 1: from two thousand and five to twenty fifteen. The show
- 27:08Speaker 1: had eight seasons and fifty one episodes. Stroud gained a
- 27:11Speaker 1: reputation of being legit among fellow survivalists because he filmed
- 27:15Speaker 1: himself instead of bringing a camera crew. He said his
- 27:18Speaker 1: worst experience on the show was when he got a
- 27:20Speaker 1: parasite in the swamps of Georgia that took him a
- 27:24Speaker 1: year to get rid of question eight. The topic is cooking.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Known for their distinctive color. This brand of Komodo style
- 27:34Speaker 1: grills was created in nineteen seventy four. Known for their
- 27:41Speaker 1: distinctive color. This brand of Komoto style grills was created
- 27:46Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy four. Brody with a quick answer. The
- 27:50Speaker 1: rest of the room not quite as confident. Chilean logan
- 27:56Speaker 1: also have an answer, Randall, are you going to get
- 28:02Speaker 1: this one right?
- 28:06Speaker 2: I don't have an answer yet. I'm not sure what
- 28:08Speaker 2: a Kamato style grill is.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Brody, do you have one of these?
- 28:15Speaker 3: No, but I think you could. I mean you can't
- 28:19Speaker 3: tell them what kind of grill is. That's given away
- 28:21Speaker 3: too much.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I think that's given away too much. Well, this is
- 28:25Speaker 1: I did tell you what style of grill it is?
- 28:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Kamato Kimoto. Not sure how you say it.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Kamoto style grills created in nineteen seventy four. This is
- 28:37Speaker 1: question eight. We will get a scoreboard update from Phil
- 28:41Speaker 1: after this. Is everybody ready? Randall, you're going to get
- 28:51Speaker 1: this one right? I think we're waiting on you. Is
- 28:58Speaker 1: everybody good? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 29:03Speaker 1: logan saying big green Egg, Alyssa saying Weber, Chili saying
- 29:07Speaker 1: green Egg, Randall saying Egg, Christine saying Weber, Marge saying
- 29:12Speaker 1: green Egg, Chester saying green Egg, Brody's saying green Egg.
- 29:17Speaker 1: The correct answer is Big green Egg. I don't think
- 29:24Speaker 1: I think green egg is good enough.
- 29:26Speaker 5: Okay, I think I marked everyone who said green egg
- 29:29Speaker 5: or Big green Egg. But can you raise your hand
- 29:31Speaker 5: if you said green Egg or big green Egg?
- 29:33Speaker 2: I said egg, Phil All right.
- 29:35Speaker 5: I got that.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I don't think that's good enough, Randall.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Sorry, is there also a little green Egg? Or is
- 29:42Speaker 3: it just Big green Egg?
- 29:43Speaker 1: But I think they probably sell like a A like
- 29:46Speaker 1: some of their their model line is like an XL
- 29:48Speaker 1: A large. They probably have a mini green Egg green Egg.
- 29:50Speaker 3: But the but the brand is Big green.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Egg, Big green Egg.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Okay, so the brand isn't green Egg.
- 29:59Speaker 3: That's right, rand.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Some of the oldest cooking vessels in the world. They
- 30:05Speaker 1: were created about three thousand years ago in China, and
- 30:07Speaker 1: we're made of clay. Big Green Egg was one of
- 30:10Speaker 1: the first American companies to start mass producing the Comado grill.
- 30:14Speaker 1: As the name states, they are known for their egg
- 30:17Speaker 1: like shape and distinctive shade of green and their.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Size us their big size.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Oh, we have to say goodbye to Alissa, Logan, Chilly Chester,
- 30:31Speaker 5: Maggie and Christine.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Oh, it's Brody and Randall. Shocker Chili.
- 30:36Speaker 5: How'd you know it's Brody and Randall. Randall's got six points,
- 30:39Speaker 5: Brody has seven.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Listen. If Randall's not comfortable with the big the.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Fine, it's fine. I don't want to get rid of it.
- 30:47Speaker 1: No, No, you think that you were missing.
- 30:51Speaker 3: It would add a lot of tension to the last couple.
- 30:53Speaker 2: It's like general motors and I just had motors.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It's a good way. I don't know how close were
- 30:59Speaker 1: you to putting green in there?
- 31:01Speaker 2: Uh, I wasn't.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I was going to write the egg m.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I was going to add an article, not a descriptor.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Question nine. The topic is fishing. This next great question
- 31:12Speaker 1: comes to us via Garrett Corless. Hagfish and blank are
- 31:17Speaker 1: the only two surviving groups of Jawllis fish in the world.
- 31:21Speaker 1: What hagfish and blank are the only surviving groups of
- 31:29Speaker 1: Jawllis fish in the world. The room is stumped. It
- 31:39Speaker 1: just came to Brody. You had to just tap the
- 31:42Speaker 1: whiteboard on his head. A few more times. Hagfish and
- 31:45Speaker 1: blank are the only surviving groups of Jallis fish in
- 31:49Speaker 1: the world. Brody is the only person who has come
- 31:52Speaker 1: up with an answer. If he were to get this
- 31:55Speaker 1: right and Randa were to get this wrong, that would
- 31:57Speaker 1: seal the victory. Come on, Brody, hagfish and blank. Brody,
- 32:08Speaker 1: how is.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Just completely opted out?
- 32:15Speaker 1: What's that? How did this come to you? Brody? Did
- 32:18Speaker 1: you just remembered a Jollis fish?
- 32:20Speaker 3: I don't know, just came out of the ether, just
- 32:23Speaker 3: took a little thinking.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Randa was hoping for a clue there from you.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I just don't know.
- 32:33Speaker 3: And I don't look I could be wrong.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Hagfish and blank are the only surviving groups of jollice
- 32:41Speaker 1: fish in the world. This came straight from the National
- 32:50Speaker 1: Park Services website, also backed up by Encyclopedia Britannica. I'm
- 32:55Speaker 1: not making up the groups or any of that terminology.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Tag fish blank the only surviving groups of Jollis fish
- 33:02Speaker 1: in the world. Chester. Do you have this one right?
- 33:05Speaker 1: Doubt it? Okay, Randall? I think we are waiting on
- 33:11Speaker 1: you a lot on the line to tell me what
- 33:17Speaker 1: the other jollys fish group is. Mhm, it's everybody ready,
- 33:23Speaker 1: it's not a fish. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 33:29Speaker 1: We have Logan saying blowfish, Alyssa saying jellyfish, Chili saying jollis,
- 33:35Speaker 1: Randall's saying jellyfish, Christine saying jellyfish, Marge saying dogfish. Chest
- 33:40Speaker 1: you're saying jellyfish. Brody saying lamb prey. The correct answer
- 33:45Speaker 1: is lamb prey. Brody got it right, is wrapped up
- 33:49Speaker 1: the wind. What's a jellyfish?
- 33:51Speaker 5: It's not a fish?
- 33:53Speaker 1: Is?
- 33:53Speaker 2: What about a starfish? Which you've taken starfish.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Jawless fish or some of the oldest fish in the
- 33:59Speaker 1: world hearing in the fossil record about four hundred and
- 34:02Speaker 1: seventy million years ago. Most types of jawalis fish have
- 34:05Speaker 1: gone extinct, except for the fifty species of hagfish and
- 34:09Speaker 1: lamprey that are left. Besides missing a jaw, some features
- 34:13Speaker 1: that make jawalis fish unique are their suction cup mouths,
- 34:16Speaker 1: cylindrical bodies, and lack of scales. Brody's wrapped up the victory.
- 34:20Speaker 1: But we have one question left. The topic is hunting.
- 34:25Speaker 1: What Canadian province leads the country in record book entries
- 34:29Speaker 1: for mountain goat mountain lion, Canada, moose, grizzly bear, Sitka
- 34:34Speaker 1: blacktail deer, and Columbia blacktail deer. This is the second
- 34:41Speaker 1: question for our listeners north of the border, less Stroud
- 34:45Speaker 1: as a Canadian himself, here's another Canadian question. The topic
- 34:49Speaker 1: is hunting. What Canadian province leads the country in record
- 34:52Speaker 1: book entries for mountain goat, mountain lion, Canada, moose, grizzly bear,
- 34:57Speaker 1: Sitka blacktail deer, and Columbia a blacktail deer. Do everybody
- 35:02Speaker 1: have an answer? Randall? Do you have this one right?
- 35:09Speaker 3: I think so?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Brody, do you have this one right?
- 35:11Speaker 2: I shouldn't even have answered, I think so. It doesn't
- 35:14Speaker 2: matter you think the answer is in the question if
- 35:17Speaker 2: you really look at it.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 35:24Speaker 1: logan saying British Columbia. List is saying British Columbia, Chile
- 35:27Speaker 1: saying BC, Randall's saying BC. The entire room said British Columbia,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and they got it right. The correct answer is British Columbia.
- 35:35Speaker 1: As Brody pointed out, the Columbia black tail deer was
- 35:38Speaker 1: a hint. British Columbia has the most booning crocket entries
- 35:42Speaker 1: in the world for Mountain goat and Canada moose, and
- 35:45Speaker 1: is the only province that has an entry for Columbia
- 35:48Speaker 1: blacktail deer and Sitka blacktail deer. They have the most
- 35:51Speaker 1: booning crocket entries in the country at three thousand, five
- 35:54Speaker 1: hundred and six, which is followed by Alberta at oney
- 35:57Speaker 1: seven hundred and ninety nine in Saskatchewan at one thousand,
- 36:01Speaker 1: six hundred forty nine. Brody is our winner with what
- 36:05Speaker 1: was it? Eight correct answers? Nine? I mean you have right, Brody?
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Nine correct answers came up short. Question one threw off
- 36:14Speaker 1: your perfect game for the happiest, most meaningful work on Earth.
- 36:18Speaker 1: You're the only one to.
- 36:19Speaker 3: See I'm not a forester, I'm a fisherman.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Well done, marche Brody. What happens next is you get
- 36:25Speaker 1: to choose where the five hundred dollars donation from meat
- 36:27Speaker 1: eater goes. What's it going to be?
- 36:31Speaker 3: Let's do friends of the Missouri River breaks?
- 36:34Speaker 1: Oh? I think that might be a new one for us.
- 36:36Speaker 1: What do we like about them er is.
- 36:39Speaker 3: They take care, They're always out there doing good work.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Habitat work on in the Missouri River breaks area, which
- 36:47Speaker 3: is one of my favorite places in the world, and
- 36:50Speaker 3: they can they can use a little help.
- 36:52Speaker 2: As a board member of that organization, I thank.
- 36:54Speaker 1: You, Randall.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I feel like, why did I not know that.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Something with the Charles.
- 37:00Speaker 2: That would be self that would be self dealing. There's
- 37:04Speaker 2: all sorts of like, I didn't.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Know you were a friend of the Missouri River officially.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Where did you donate to them before? Because there was something.
- 37:17Speaker 2: That was that was a Keep It Public a different
- 37:20Speaker 2: different group.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Allow Randall to explain what they about?
- 37:23Speaker 1: What do we like about that?
- 37:24Speaker 2: It's an organization that works on stewardship education and uh
- 37:30Speaker 2: they organize uh cleanups and plantings of cottonwood trees and
- 37:36Speaker 2: all kinds of stuff. But friends organizations are all over
- 37:39Speaker 2: the country and they essentially serve as like a sort
- 37:42Speaker 2: of an auxiliary to the Land Management Agency, so they
- 37:45Speaker 2: get folks on the ground to help the b l
- 37:48Speaker 2: M or US Fashion and Wildlife Service or whatever the
- 37:50Speaker 2: relevant agency is.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Uh, these places.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Who else are you a board member?
- 37:57Speaker 2: I was a board member of Keep It Public? And no,
- 38:02Speaker 2: I think that's about it. I don't know.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I've never uh never thought about before how the
- 38:06Speaker 1: friends groups are like all over the country. The most
- 38:08Speaker 1: local one I think is like Friends of Highlight and
- 38:11Speaker 1: they do as much or more maybe than like the
- 38:14Speaker 1: agency then actually manages that land.
- 38:16Speaker 2: I mean a lot of these agencies are just super
- 38:18Speaker 2: underfunded and to get people on the ground do it
- 38:21Speaker 2: like to undertake projects that require a lot of manpower
- 38:26Speaker 2: and like volunteer hours. It's just too much for the
- 38:28Speaker 2: the land managers. So yeah, it's like some of these
- 38:31Speaker 2: groups across the country are pretty impressive, like in terms
- 38:33Speaker 2: of just getting stuff done and speaking out on behalf
- 38:36Speaker 2: of those places.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Five hundred dollars going to Randall, Just kidding, what's the organization?
- 38:42Speaker 1: One more time, the Friends of the Missouri Breaks five
- 38:45Speaker 1: hundred dollars coming their way via Brody and meat Eater.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Join us the next side for more meat Eater trivia.
- 38:50Speaker 1: The only game show where conservation always wins.
