Transcript
- 0:00Okay, this episode is for you.
- 0:02If you are like, becky, my community is dead.
- 0:07It is crickets in there.
- 0:09Please help me.
- 0:11And I know you're thinking I need to do some huge crazy revamp strategy.
- 0:17We need to do so much.
- 0:19We probably just need to start over.
- 0:21Let's absolutely scrap it.
- 0:23It doesn't work.
- 0:24It's always been dead.
- 0:25Blah, blah, blah.
- 0:26I want to teach you how to re engage a dead community in 14 days.
- 0:31The truth is we need a really good reason for people to come back in.
- 0:35So we're not going to try to revive everything right now.
- 0:39I want you to really use your imagination, be creative and I want you to create a single focused moment, a single focused experience.
- 0:50A challenge, an event series, a big event, virtual event, an in person experience.
- 0:58Something that is like a unique experience.
- 1:00Maybe it's a boot camp, maybe it's a four week miniseries.
- 1:04I want something that is totally different than what you usually do.
- 1:08You're creating a pattern break and I want you to craft something that is really going to serve your members and what they actually need.
- 1:18So in order to think of this idea, first you need to connect with as many members as you can one on one.
- 1:23I want you to talk to them, find out what's going on in their world, like dms.
- 1:28I don't even care if you're in your community platform.
- 1:31You can text them, Instagram, email, whatever, but connect one on one as much as possible.
- 1:36Ask what's going on, ask what they're working on and start to notice what those themes are, what are the trends, what's coming up for them and then think, okay, what kind of experience can I create that's really going
- 1:46to have an impact on these people?
- 1:48How can I be of service to them?
- 1:51Then you're going to design this experience.
- 1:53You're going to decide when it's going to start and then you're going to go back to every single message thread that you just had and say, hey, I talked to a bunch of members, including you.
- 2:02Thank you so much for your feedback.
- 2:04And I'm doing this new experience inside the membership, no extra cost.
- 2:07Here's where I want you to opt in.
- 2:09I would love for you to be a part of it.
- 2:11Let's build some momentum.
- 2:12How does that sound?
- 2:13I love these kind of experiences as a re engagement strategy for your members that have kind of fallen off, especially your OG members that have kind of like fallen off the bandwagon.
- 2:24This is a great way to re engage them.
- 2:27I, I know I've told this story before, but I was a part of, or I am a part of Chanel Basilio's growth in reverse community.
- 2:33She did a LinkedIn challenge.
- 2:36I don't know, I guess it was like last fall now, but she did a LinkedIn challenge or January.
- 2:40She always does them in January too.
- 2:42And I joined it.
- 2:43I hadn't been, you know, logging into her community very much in like probably six months and I saw she was doing this 30 day LinkedIn challenge and I jumped right in to got back into the community, started connecting
- 2:53with people.
- 2:54It's a great way to reengage people when they're just have like stop talking in.
- 2:58It's not that they don't want to be a part of the community anymore necessarily, but it's just kind of fallen on the back burner.
- 3:04So how do we bring it to the front burner?
- 3:06We want it to be a time bound urgency strategy experience that they need to be part of by being in the room, by being live.
- 3:15You need a reason for people to come back right now, not whenever they're ready.
- 3:20Re engagement comes from momentum.
- 3:22You want to create momentum.
- 3:24So creating this like one focused experience can have a huge impact and then you want to think about what's next.
- 3:30And really this comes from listening to your community.
- 3:34So let's say you decide to do a four week bootcamp experience inside the membership.
- 3:39You get a lot of the members involved because you've really done your homework and your direct messaging strategy to actually connect with your members and get them involved.
- 3:48You've personally invited them to be a part of it.
- 3:51Look, this is like a hustle experience, but it's going to be worth it because you can drive up your retention, increase your engagement.
- 3:59People are going to be talking about it and that is going to also impact your growth and have people joining.
- 4:05So there's a lot of good reason to do it, but it will definitely be a little bit of a grind.
- 4:09But as they're going through it, you, you want to listen to them, you want to connect with them, you want to learn what they are loving about it, what could be better, what they want next and then use
- 4:18that to fuel your continued programming and that's what keeps them going.
- 4:23Right?
- 4:23So the, the challenge, the experience you've created, this is going to bring them back in, pull them back in, re engage them, help them with momentum, but then you want to keep that going.
- 4:34And so that's where the work comes in with really connecting with people throughout that experience to, to start to improve and make changes to your community over time.
- 4:45That really helps with like driving that engagement long term if your community isn't necessarily dead or crickets.
- 4:52I actually love a re engagement strategy like this every single quarter because it's going to.
- 4:57It creates that pattern break.
- 4:59And generally people have like a 90 day timeline where they're willing to commit to something or they're paying attention to something and then they kind of fall off and get distracted and so it pulls them back in every
- 5:0990 or so days.
- 5:11And also it helps with increased retention customer value over time because a lot of times people cancel like after that three month mark.
- 5:20And so when you always have this like quarterly activation, it really helps with getting people to stick around for the next thing.
- 5:28It creates a really nice pattern break.
- 5:30So if they're getting bored of the same mundane things month over month, then they have this like moment every few months that feels really new and exciting and they want to be a part of that.
- 5:39I think about these as activation strategies.
- 5:42That's what I like to call them as short term activation plans to bring a community back to life, to re engage disengaged members and to drive retention, drive engagement and drive growth.
- 5:53If your community feels quiet like we love designing these short term activation plans and we can do them in our one off strategy sessions.
